The Saiyan smiles softly at that, then turns to Lazuli. “While I do want a proper match with Kakarot, this might be a bigger problem if it doesn’t end up contained.”

You look to her, giving Lazuli a telepathic question, asking permission to read everything to keep it short. She gives you a nod. “It’s been... a mess.”

You see... just what she means. As soon as the revival of the executed conspirators, things got a bit heated. It settled for a time, but when news broke out of the Cold family’s demise, tensions between those who wanted Brench to break free from the PTO and the loyalist forces reached a fever pitch. Violence erupted... but it seemed to be over relatively quickly, in the separatists’ favor.

Then, soldiers appeared on the loyalists’ side. Strange ones, wearing PTO armor and equipment, but having something... “off” to them. Worryingly so. And they’re strong, at least as strong as the Ginyus were. Maybe stronger. And the worrying part is that they seem to just... keep appearing at random, with few ships around to transport them. Almost like they're some kind of horde of phantoms.

You next tap your Scouter to contact your brother. “Acer, come in. It’s me, M-”

“What the hell happened, sis?!” his voice hollers at you. “You just suddenly vanished for no good reason, you had us all worried Towa did something to you. Also Peppa tried to kick Vegeta in the shins.”

“Did Goku tell her no?” you ask. Your brother grumbles a reply that he held her back, but repeates his statement. “Long story short, on Brench. I’m fine, at least I think I am. Found out about what’s happening on Brench, can tell you about it later.”

“Are you coming back, or staying there?” Acer questions.

He nods, and your group waits for the next attack. In the meantime, you manage to get a good look of the area. While it’s clearly more advanced than Earth, there are some familiar sights around. Clothing stores, restaurants, plenty of shops and what seems to be a normal mall district... if it were inhabited. A lot of the places around look like clear battlezones, several destroyed buildings and craters and rubble. It’s clear just how bad this got. This time to yourselves does give you an opportunity, though.

“So guys, I know you got this armor and everything, but would any of you mind some minor improvements? I bet I could get them some upgrades. Say, why are you wearing those things in the first place?”

Lazuli sighs. “We did have out regular clothes starting out, but they ended up getting trashed through all the wear and tear. These are the only replacements we could manage.”

“Lapis and I were in similar situations after a few days.” Krillin informs. He then looks into the sky, putting his hands behind his head. “...Think they’re almost done with the Tournament?”

“Might be.” you tell him sadly. Going to have a lot to catch up with when you get- ...your Scouter picks up on something. High Power Levels, ranging from 20,000 to 200,00. You and Chiaotzu nod at each other, and head off to one of the weaker Ki signatures. As everyone spreads out to head off some of the stronger ones, you and Chiaotzu spot the figure you’re looking for... and, of all things, the person seems to be... Cui?

No... his Ki is different. Quickly, you and Chiaotzu fuse, the foe’s Scouter exploding as it picks up your strength. Now or never! With your combined strength, you quickly lift the figure up into the air, then materialize a jar beneath them, top to the side and a seal ready on it. The alien looks at you, confused, but then its eyes seem to widen as you build up Ki around it, swirling like a typhoon.

“MAFUBA!” you cry out, flinging the alien into the jar. Without a moment to spare, you quickly put the lid on it. You dash to the jar and sigh in relief. Mission accomplished.

...or so you think. Your Foresight warns you of an incoming blast, aimed at the jar. You move out of the way, guarding it behind your back. This one... wait a minute, you’ve seen him before!

I have fun doing many things in this quest that don't involve fighting. Like going on adventures in between those routine tournament fights. Also, can I just say that the set-up for the Cold Family fight was boring? The canon!Namek Arc was much better paced and set-up what with a race against Frieza for the Dragon Balls. The Cold Family coming to Earth bit was just an inevitable gauntlet we had to do if we wanted the quest to continue. That's the problem with a lot of Dragon Ball quests, it's a lot of level-grinding and waiting for shit to happen rather than going out and having fun adventures.

So I was thinking we could paint our spaceship yellow with red racing stripes, and have two neon aqua engines that each have a cockpit/escape pod space for if we need to ditch the main body if the reactor fails. So, when we raise our energy and melee stats, do our attacks go up in cost? Like, I feel that we should be able to do way more shit like about 50 Geist Magnums for 5% of our ki compared to when we had a PL of 200. We have PL of about 5 million, that's 25,000 times stronger than we were from the start of this quest, but it feels like we're still at that beginner state but with bigger numbers attached to the same attacks and techniques. I suggest that if you want to try to make the combat system more fun, maybe you should look elsewhere besides the roll pool?

There isn't a clear cause and effect for Churai getting in our range to teleport us and getting out of our range quick enough to teleport again when we can catch bullets and dodge lightning. I'd like more chances to change our situation than being able to do nothing or be forced into a suicidal move. We can see into the future, which gives us like 2 less on DCs when it could help us see what works as a plan. Or even maybe the DCs could be listed along with the plan and everyone could agree whether the plan is worth the risk what with us using Foresight to see the DC.

With two fingers tapped to your forehead, you teleport away right as the two figures attempt to grab at you, heading to Raditz. You arrive right behind him as he fires a Ki blast at one of those soldiers, a stronger one than the Cui-like one in your hands, but not even close to a match for Raditz as a Super Saiyan.

“A bit overkill, don’t you think?” you question.

“Wha- Maple... er, Chiao- ...uh, what is your name like that?” Raditz asks in mild surprise.

“Chaple would be fine.” you suggest. “Anyway, I got what we need,” you state with a smile, showing Raditz the jar with the alien in it, “but there’s a bigger problem. Looks like Gero has his hands in this whole operation, since I just saw a pair of his creations trying to get this jar.”

“...r-right.” Raditz mumbles, looking over your appearance again. “...not doing me any favors with this fusion thing... anyway, where are they now?”

You check with your Scouter. They’re... about 3 kilometers away, and closing in fast. “They’ll be here soon. Looks like they’re after me.”

Raditz powers up, a smirk appearing on his face. “Then I’ll take them on. You get that thing to Dresan, Lazuli knows where to find him. Or... well, guess Chiaotzu does as well.” He takes his stance, a strong wind blowing through, his spiky blonde hair flowing through as his Ki rises.

Dresan... name’s familiar... ah, the Brench resistance leader. Blue man, looks middle-aged, with a beard. Chiaotzu’s mind agrees, getting it to him would be the best option, then you could come back and help Raditz. Though... might be better to put it on Earth, just for safekeeping...

“I’ll be back momentarily, Raditz!” you tell him, focusing on this “Dressan” person’s Ki. Raditz for a moment gives you a... is that jealousy on his face? Ahhh, so he tried to learn this technique too. And is doing even worse than you did. Well, can’t blame him for it, not like this was an easy skill to learn yourself. Still, you finally manage to lock on to it, and arrive... in what looks like a war room.

About a dozen people look to you in shock, and a dozen more have blasters fixed on you. You locate the fellow out of all the people there, red, blue, some green and pink and even a yellow one, and... aha! “Senator Dressan, special delivery from Miss Lazuli and pals.” you state, showing him the jar.

The middle-aged brench man approaches cautiously. “What... is this?”

“A captured soldier, of the ones that’ve been plaguing your planet for the last few months. We got one, sir, and hopefully this will shed some light on the situation. Be careful though, don’t want to open that here.” you warn. “I suggest waiting until we clear out this wave.”

He takes the jar, smiling softly. “We... understand. We are in your debt.”

“Don’t celebrate too soon, this fight’s just getting started.” You tap your fingers to your head again, teleporting back to Raditz.

“I SAID, tell us where she went!” the purple guy demands of Raditz, the Saiyan trying to block his blows.

“RIGHT HERE!” you shout, kicking him on the head and knocking him to the ground.

You float to Raditz, the Saiyan giving you a look of “I was doing fine on my own.” You can’t help but laugh at that, but the purple midget lets out a mildly irritate groan in the crater you made. “Yo! This suit is brand new, girl. You gonna pay fo’ that.”

The pale giant looks down. “Are you in need of assistance, 15?”

“Nah, I’m good.” he responds, flying back up. “Really tho, girl, brand new!”

CLOTHES BEAM!” you shout, firing the a pair of pants with suspenders, a striped shirt, and thick pair of glasses at the purple midget. “RAIO-TEN! KAIO-KEN!” you holler, dashing behind 15 and smashing him in the back of the head with your elbow. He tears the new clothes away in mild frustration. “What’s that, not your style? I’ll get rid of them then... WILL ‘O WISP!” The clothes quickly catch fire, the purple android trying to get rid of them and retaliating quickly. You dodge his fist almost effortlessly, kicking him in the gut and pushing away, stopping at the ground as Ki builds up in your hands. And with that... well, some Ice Magic too! Time to give this a shot!

“Girl you are gettin’ on my nerves!” 15 shouts, dashing towards you.

“Can’t handle that heat, huh? Then how about you... CHILL OUT! DODONHAMEHA!” You bring your hands together and fire the Ki blast, catching the purple midget as he flies at you and freezing him. He crashes to the ground right below you. “So, had enough?”

15 gives you an angered look, the ice starting to melt around him. You spot Raditz fighting with the pale giant, Krillin arriving to give him some help. You then spot Lazuli... wait, that’s not Lazuli... aha, she and Lapis fused too! As Raditz kicks the other foe away, he gives you a judgmental look... hey, hey! Those jokes good ones! Bah, everyone’s a critic...

You telekinetically lift 15 up off the ground. “You know the Volleyball Fist?”

“Not... exactly?” they reply, confused, but as you telekinetically place the frozen android in your hand, they seem to catch on. “...but hey, I’m a quick learner.”

You gently jab one of the red dots on your cheeks. Hah, Tien would be grinning like mad if he saw this. “Then let’s start the first lesson!” You toss 15 up. “VOLLEYBALL FIST! Serviiiice!” You then bounce him upwards, towards Lapzi, you flying with. They bounce it back, and as you slide in the air to pass it, you materialize a little jar on the ground. Lapzi spikes the frozen Android towards it, and you quickly ready yourself. With hands forward, you shout out, “MAFUBA!”

The typhoon of swirling Ki catches 15 the moment he breaks free of the ice. It takes far, far more out of you to seal this one than it did that Cui lookalike, and while it’s a close call, you fling him into the jar. You bolt down to close it up, letting out a sigh of relief.

Lapzi gives you a thumb’s up... right as Krillin lands into them head-first, causing them to crash into the ground. You look up, and the pale giant gives you an angry, dismissive look in response. “That was a mistake.”

“That it was, partner.” another voice calls out behind you. Ah crap, what now?

You look back to Raditz, who picks himself up out of the rubble he’s in, groaning lowly. “Cheap... cheap shot...”

This... this could get bad. You tap your fingers to your forehead, giving everyone a telepathic message that you’re about to get some help. You face 13, looking him right in the eyes. “Give me a moment. I’ll get you what you want.”

“See, now that’s smarts.” he chuckles. “That Tuffle brain of yours still works well even with that Fusion thingy.”

You give him a slight smirk as you teleport away, locked on your brother’s location. Arriving back on Earth, you find... wait, where’s the Tournament? This place looks like a wasteland!

“M-Maple?!” your brother’s voice calls out.

You turn around, facing your brother, who looks at you with... mild surprise, slight disgust, all over his face. Not many of your friends are here, there’s Tien standing off to the side, Piccolo sitting on a tinged stone bench. This... wait, there’s the ring! ...or, what’s left of it, with the Announcer guy talking to a man holding a camera.

“Wh-what happened here?” You ask in surprise.

Piccolo’s lowers. “Kougeki tried to level the entire area. Barriers wouldn’t hold. They managed to evacuate the spectators. Then that coward ran off once it was clear I survived that.”

“So you finally come back, here to watch your student fall to me?” Vegeta’s mocking voice calls to you. “Hah, and how appropriate, you look like a clown, Tuffle.”

You give him a glare. Vegeta not n- ...wait, student? Agh, no time for this. “Guys, we need someone, we’ve figured out something behind those attacks on Tarble’s planet, and Brench! But there’s this trio of Red Ribbon cyborgs that’ve shown up!”

“If it’s help you need, I’m all for it!” Chuu Lee’s voice calls to you, rushing to you.

“You’re not getting out of this fight, Earthling!” Vegeta grunts angrily. “You steal away my deserved victory against Kakarot, then think you can just run away from facing me?!”


She raises her voice at him in protest. “This is more-”

“No, Chuu Lee.” Goku tells her. “You’ve got that bet you made on Maple’s behalf.”

She tries to protest, then looks at you, cheeks... reddening slightly. “I...”

“You can win this. I’ll help Maple.” Goku reassures her. Your monkey boy then smiles at you. “Peppa and Gohan are safe, they got out of here with Chi-chi and everyone else.” He cracks his knuckles grinning wide at you. “Just point me at ‘em!”

Chuu Lee and Goku were both willing to make a bet with Vegeta on your behalf, if either of them won. Vegeta would have made it a bit tighter, or a full "double or nothing" deal. Goku was more willing to go double or nothing, but Chuu Lee was laser focused on one bet, for very personal reasons.

There's still a ring, but only enough of one to mark a clear boundary. There's no path leading up to it, no stands, etc. The whole place looks more or less like what it did after Piccolo destroyed it in canon, just with a visible ring, because the shields took so much of the blast.
