First, Tsuki decided to decided to mess with Ichiraku’s and try to force you into quitting the exams- then on top of that, she beat you, after you lost in the arena!

Man, that girl- she’s something else. There’s a heart down there, for sure, but it’s buried under a pile of ryo bills. Or something.

Then, you make up, and somebody’s attacking the village! Seriously, the hell is with today?

Whatever, at least you found Grandpa Jiraiya- without him and his toads, you really aren’t sure if those Uchiha guys would’ve been able to deal with the One-Tails- speaking of which, damn, the One-Tails is Gaara! You weren’t expecting that, though the kid was definitely creepy.

“Nori, keep up. We need to find your Dad- I’ve got a bad feeling.” Jiraiya says, walking a few paces ahead of you.

“Yeah, I’m here. Don’t worry about me- I couldn’t lose your sleazy toadface even if I wanted to!” You quip.

Normally that would make the old man laugh- but he doesn’t.

Ever since that winged woman showed up and took Gaara away, he’s been different- more serious. He won’t tell you what’s going on, either- he just keeps saying that you need to find your dad. Which, you guess is important- he’s the Hokage, after all- but seriously, he’s probably fine. Nobody would mess with the Yellow Flash- right?

The again, you can feel it too- something is very wrong. Why would Suna betray you? You and your team were just there- you even saw the Kazekage! They didn’t seem unfriendly, or anything…

It puzzles you. You’ll be the first to admit that most of the political stuff Dad talks about is beyond you- but he seemed so sure it was a good idea when you had talked to him about it. You suppose even your Dad is capable of making mistakes- not that Naruto would ever believe it.

Speaking of your brother- you hope he’s alright. Knowing him he’d get in over his head trying to prove himself- but you’d hope he’s smarter than that.

You sigh.

Today’s been such a drag, you’re ready for bed.

Instead of complaining any more though, you pick up the pace to stand beside Grandpa Jiraiya- better not make the old guy worry any more than he already is. His hair is already all white as it is!

The two of you continue down the road towards your Dad’s offices- and when the sounds of battle reach you, both of you take off in a run.

For an old man, Jiraiya moves surprisingly quick.

The again, this is the first time in years he hasn’t been at least a little drunk- that you know of.

Making your way towards the Hokage’s offices, the two of you encounter no resistance- the streets are basically abandoned.

All you can hope for is that everyone made it to safety….

Somewhere beyond the Hokage Mountain, a huge explosion goes off- and manages to rattle your bones, all the way down here.

Looking up, you can just make it out- wait, isn’t that where Tsuki’s house is?!

The last you thing you need is that girl getting in over her head….

But, first thing’s first- you have to find your father. Tsuki can handle herself, at least for a little while- besides, you’ll let your Dad know what’s going on, and he can help take care of it.

As the two of you get closer to the building, something causes the hair on your neck to stand up- you can’t really tell why- until you notice some of your hair is literally standing on end. This is… lightning chakra?

Ahead, Jiraiya has stopped, and is holding out his hand for you to stop as well. Jogging up to him, you can see why- this area is practically decimated, and the causes and standing across from one another, a wide crater between them.

Straining your eyes, you see one of the men- Kakashi, your brother’s sensei and your Father’s assistant and former student.

His opponent is…..

You rub your eyes quickly- but there’s no mistaking it! That ruddy hair is unmistakable- though he seems surrounded by… gold dust?

Kakashi… doesn’t seem to be doing well.

He’s bleeding rather heavily, with some of the residual gold mixed in to the patches of dried blood on his uniform. His headband, which normally covers his left eye, has been tossed aside.

His counterpart is much harder to read. The Kazekage looks like he may have taken a few hits, but the majority of his body is covered by swirling gold dust, rendering casual inspection useless.

“Grandpa Jiraiya-” You start

“No, Nori. We’ll go around them; we have to find your Father. Trust in Kakashi to deal with this himself.” Jiraiya says, more somber than stern.

“But…. it’s the Kazekage! Surely that’s out of Kakashi’s league?” You ask.

“Maybe, maybe not. Kakashi is strong- and he’s doing his best to defend Konoha.”

You grit your teeth. This is stupid- he needs help! Grandpa Jiraiya might be an old geezer, but he’s still a Sannin!

Jiraya’s eyes meet yours- it’s a look you’ve never really seen on the old man; he legitimately looks sad.

The Kazekage’s voice. You’d only heard him speak one other time- but there’s nobody else to confuse him with.

“That would be easier, I agree. Unfortunately, Minato wouldn’t ever let me hear the end of it if I did.” Kakashi says, surprisingly nonchalant for somebody so badly wounded.

“Hmph. Very well- that loyalty won’t help you or the Yellow Flash once you’re dead. At least you’ll die an honorable death.” The Kazekage responds.

“Ironic, coming from you. I don’t intend on letting him down.” Kakashi remarks.

A loud whine emanates from the streets behind you- is he attacking again?

“Lightning Release: Rasengan!” You hear Kakashi shout.

“Again? I’ve told you- my defense is absolute.” The Kazekage scolds.

“Nothing is absolute, Rasa!”

A sound not unlike a thunderclap echos throughout the Konoha streets- seems Kakashi was able to get a solid hit in, after all.

Before long you come across several wounded men- Hyuga men, if their outfits are any indication- strewn about an alleyway as if they’d been crushed by a stampede.

Seeing one more lively than the others, Jiraiya shakes him gently.

“Shinobi! Where is the Hokage?”

The man groans in pain, before explaining.

“The people in cloaks.. with red clouds- they assaulted the Hokage! We tried to assist, but… there were far too many…” he explains, point towards the offices.

Without a word, Jiraiya runs directly toward them, not even trying to drag you along.

“...Lord Jiraiya…. The barrier…” The man pants, trying to explain- but he’s already long gone.

A barrier? Are they using some sort of defensive technique?

You run over to the main, curiosity abound.

“Wait, barrier? What barrier?” You question, shaking the man to keep him awake.

“Some sort of… purple defensive barrier. Anyone who touches it is engulfed in flames- and they say it’s impossible to escape from inside.” He explains.

“Who is “They”?” you ask.

“The robed shinobi- half of their number are defending the ones fighting the Hokage….” he trails off.

Father… is in danger after all.

You take off after Jiraiya, in hopes of catching up and relaying your information before it’s too late.

Who you meet instead, though, is another group of men- with Tsuki’s strange butler, Danzo, at the help.

He seems just as surprised to see you as you are to see him.

“Nori Uzumaki? What are you doing running around by yourself?” He asks.

It takes a moment to notice what’s different about him- a metal arm rests at his side, where he normally keeps it hidden.

“Neat toy, gramps. I was following Grandpa Jiraiya- but he took off ahead of me while I was questioning a wounded Hyuga. My father is under attack; seemingly trapped in some sort of barrier by the Akatsuki.” You explain.

Before he can respond, you dig into him.

“Hey! Shouldn’t you be at Tsuki’s house? There was a huge explosion just a little while ago! She might be in trouble!”

The old man grimaces.

“Tsuki and her father are well protected. They are safer there than with me- and I need to do my part to save the village. If the Akatsuki are ahead, even the Sannin will need as much help as as he can get.”

You don’t have time to argue with him- you need to follow Grandpa Jiraiya.

“Well, come on, then. They should be up ahead!” You shout, running towards the stairs leading to the plaza where the Hokage’s offices are.

Danzo and his men are quick to follow- hopefully you’re in time to help the old Sannin before he gets in over his head.

You and Danzo clear the stairs quickly, with his men following tightly behind. The scene unfolding before you is complicated- and what’s worse, you don’t see your father.

Atop the Hokage office building, a dark purple barrier encloses… something- or rather several somethings. You can just make out several dark figures fighting- and several bright flashes of light.

That would be your dad- at least, you think so. But why are they fighting on top of the Hokage building?

The plaza itself is a mess- it’s filled with Shinobi corpses, some allied with Konoha, some not. You can see both Ame and Suna headbands among them- but where did they come from?

Standing in the center of the plaza are two men, flanked by several large creatures. One has six arms… and three faces? The other is less odd looking, with long bright orange hair. Both men and the animals have strange black piercings- and all of them have strange purple eyes, with ringed irises.


Across from them stand Grandpa Jiraiya, and Itachi- which, while you’re glad to see your sensei, this isn’t certainly the best time to say so.

Besides, you wouldn’t go hug him like Tsuki does- girl has no tact, for someone so smart.

“Jiraiya” both men say at the same time- it’s really creepy to hear.

“You’re too late. The child of prophecy will be destroyed, bringing balance, and peace, to the world.”

Itachi seems confused by these words- but says nothing, simply eyeing up his opponents.

Jiraiya isn’t nearly as composed.

“Hanzo! Where…. Where did you get this power?! I refuse to believe you would stoop so low- they were just children! Surely even you would not murder children!”

The two men stare blankly at him, with those unblinking purple eyes.

“You left them, Jiraiya. You, the Sannin, left them. I owe you no explanations.” They say in unison.

To your right, Danzo seems to be taking all this information in- but he has yet to act.

Are all these old men just going to sit here….?!

None of the other nations know that, all they know is that the Sand and Sound just blitzed the Leaf for no good reason, and the Akatsuki showed up right on time to take advantage of it.

If we petition the other nations for aid, it'll be easy to argue that the Sand and Sound are obviously working with the Akatsuki. And Iwa will probably back up our word and evidence about what happened in Konoha, if they try to cast doubt on this having happened.

Kind of a conventional weapon for a shinobi to use at range; but you aren't complaining.

You start to run- and the missiles follow you.

Neat trick- but this is nothing.

You run straight at a nearby building at top speed- and the missiles give chase.

You begin to focus chakra into your feet- and just before hitting the wall, you jump, sticking the landing on the side of the building, and continuing to run up it’s length.

Most of the missiles collide with the building, detonating- taking a few more with it. Some of the missiles farther back are able to turn up in time, and continue the chase. Utilizing a different tactic, you jump off the top of the building, then engage in freefall- passing the missiles entirely. As you fall, you fire off your chakra chains, colliding with the missiles and detonating them harmlessly in midair.

Using the shunshin, you’re able to leap back to the building’s roof- in time to see that the shinobi below have engaged the two men, and their monsters.

You are momentarily safe- but what now?

The cage of purple flames still burns brightly atop the Hokage’s offices- and the men are fighting below.

With those two creeps and their weird pets distracted, hopefully you can make your way over to the cage to figure out what’s going on.


Using the shunshin, crossing the remaining rooftops is relatively easy- and your target isn’t exactly hard to miss. The bright purple flames of the cage are quite easy to make out, even with the sun setting. Unfortunately there isn’t a tall enough building to leap directly to the roof- meaning you’ll need to climb.

Again focusing your chakra into your hands and feet, you begin to slowly climb the western wall of the office building. Before long, you’re able to poke your head above the roof ever so slightly- and what you see is both amazing and terrifying.

Four shinobi you don’t recognize are creating this barrier- and they themselves are protected by it as well.

Within the barrier is your father- and two other men.

One is covered in old wounds- he seems to almost be stitched together.

The other is covered in fresh wounds- he’s bleed profusely, but doesn’t seem to care in the slightest.

In fact, he seems to be enjoying himself.

“Oh, legendary Yellow Flash- you will make the most wonderful sacrifice to Lord Jashin! Truly, it will be my greatest accomplishment, and a sign of my devotion!” He cries out in exultation.

“Hidan- you shouldn’t let your guard down. Underestimating your foes will eventually get you killed.” The other Akatsuki chides.

“Eh? Hahahaha! Kakuzu you greedy blasphemer! Lord Jashin protects me in all things- always! And besides- I cannot die! Hahahahahaha!” says the white-headed man, whose name is apparently Hidan.

“I’m glad you both are so confident, even after being unable to land a single hit on me.” Your father, Minato, tuts.

“You’d think you’d take this a little more seriously- I intend to.”

Hidan looks at your father- his face unreadable stone.

“I assure you- battle is sacred to Lord Jashin. This battle in particular…”

You can see what your dad is talking about- he doesn’t have a scratch on him. By contrast, Hidan is covered in wounds- though the other man seems much better off.

Strange, very strange indeed.

A hand touches your shoulder- and another covers your mouth to stop the shriek mere moments from your lips.

“Nori. Shhh.”

At your side is your brother, Naruto- and not too far behind is Hinata.

“You two?” You inquire, looking between them.

“I was attacked by Kabuto- Naruto intervened when he took me by surprise.” Hinata explains.

Wait…

“Kabuto attacked you? Why?” You ask.

“Apparently, he’s been working for Orochimaru this whole time.” Naruto remarks, a scowl on his face.

“He’s been in the village for years, so nobody even considered it. Apparently he’s half the reason so many enemy shinobi were able to get into Konoha undetected- they were using some old tunnels beneath Konoha that nobody seemed to know about. He tried to trick Hinata into thinking he was an ally- and nearly caught her. We were both lucky that I happened to be nearby.”

He shakes his head- obviously his friend’s betrayal is weighing on him.

“Anyway, what’s the situation here, sis? A bunch of people are fighting down below- but dad isn’t there. I hadn’t seen him since we were attacked in the Kage booth- we went different directions. I’m glad you found him, but-”

“He’s trapped, yeah.” You finish for him.

“As far as I can tell, those four are keeping that barrier up- and nobody can get in or out. Dad’s doing fine- neither of those weirdos has even put a scratch on him- but we still need to free him. He’d be able to deal with this once and for all.” You explain.

“I agree. We need to get him out. Hinata, how many people are up here?” Naruto asks, turning to your teammate.

“Hmm- Seven people are either inside or keeping the cage active- there are three more on the far side of the cage…..”
Her face darkens.

“One is Orochimaru. Another is the Winged Lady who seems to have been popping up everywhere- and the last one is that man from the announcement- Hanzo, or Pain, I guess.”

“It’s odd- His chakra signatures are exactly the same as the two below… it’s like all three of them are the same person. It doesn’t make sense.” She finishes.

“Itachi-sensei said something about a “Rinnegan”- that mean anything to either of you?” You ask.

Naruto shakes his head- Hinata thinks for a while, before giving her answer.

“It’s a Dojutsu- same as the Sharingan or the Byakugan. But in terms of what it does, I have no idea. If we engage them, we’ll essentially be going in blind.” Hinata explains.

Your mouth forms a small smile- “We’ll never be going in blind with you around, Hinata!” you complement.

Both of them look at you oddly- before Naruto chuckles under his breath.

“Thanks, sis. So, what’s the plan? We obviously aren’t any match for the other three. Do you think we could free Dad from the cage?”

“I’m not sure. They seem to be in the cage, and thus protected- but I’m sure this isn’t foolproof. We’ll just need to think of something.”

If this is a similar barrier to canon, wrecking their footing or the building they're fighting on MIGHT disrupt their concentration enough that they either drop the barrier or give Minato a chance to escape.

Alternatively, if Hinata knows Kaiten, try matching the inpenetrable defenses against each other. Who knows, maybe if we do something like Hinata spinning in one direction, and Minato's Rasengan spinning into another, the barrier will get ripped apart.

Or see if Naruto and Minato can pull off that Supreme Ultimate Rasengan by meeting in the middle from two ends of the barriers, and bust a giant hole that way.

It's hard to imagine Pein being careless enough to fire on his own position, but I also can't imagine anything more satisfying than Pein destroying his own trap.

We might even pull it off, if he underestimates us and we plan it right.

Get Asura Path to send another round of missiles our way, pretend he's got us on the ropes this time, lead towards Minato's position.

Then, using an object we spotted before we made this nigh-suicidal run, we kawarimi with said object to safety and leave all of Asura Path's missiles detonating against the building or its foundations.
