A hand touches your shoulder- and another covers your mouth to stop the shriek mere moments from your lips.


“Nori. Shhh.”


At your side is your brother, Naruto- and not too far behind is Hinata.


“You two?” You inquire, looking between them.


“I was attacked by Kabuto- Naruto intervened when he took me by surprise.” Hinata explains.

“Kabuto attacked you? Why?” You ask.


“Apparently, he’s been working for Orochimaru this whole time.” Naruto remarks, a scowl on his face.


“He’s been in the village for years, so nobody even considered it. Apparently he’s half the reason so many enemy shinobi were able to get into Konoha undetected- they were using some old tunnels beneath Konoha that nobody seemed to know about. He tried to trick Hinata into thinking he was an ally- and nearly caught her. We were both lucky that I happened to be nearby.”


He shakes his head- obviously his friend’s betrayal is weighing on him.


“Anyway, what’s the situation here, sis? A bunch of people are fighting down below- but dad isn’t there. I hadn’t seen him since we were attacked in the Kage booth- we went different directions. I’m glad you found him, but-”


“He’s trapped, yeah.” You finish for him.


“As far as I can tell, those four are keeping that barrier up- and nobody can get in or out. Dad’s doing fine- neither of those weirdos has even put a scratch on him- but we still need to free him. He’d be able to deal with this once and for all.” You explain.


“I agree. We need to get him out. Hinata, how many people are up here?” Naruto asks, turning to your teammate.


“Hmm- Seven people are either inside or keeping the cage active- there are three more on the far side of the cage…..”
Her face darkens.


“One is Orochimaru. Another is the Winged Lady who seems to have been popping up everywhere- and the last one is that man from the announcement- Hanzo, or Pain, I guess.”


“It’s odd- His chakra signatures are exactly the same as the two below… it’s like all three of them are the same person. It doesn’t make sense.” She finishes.


“Itachi-sensei said something about a “Rinnegan”- that mean anything to either of you?” You ask.


Naruto shakes his head- Hinata thinks for a while, before giving her answer.


“It’s a Dojutsu- same as the Sharingan or the Byakugan. But in terms of what it does, I have no idea. If we engage them, we’ll essentially be going in blind.” Hinata explains.


Your mouth forms a small smile- “We’ll never be going in blind with you around, Hinata!” you complement.


Both of them look at you oddly- before Naruto chuckles under his breath.


“Thanks, sis. So, what’s the plan? We obviously aren’t any match for the other three. Do you think we could free Dad from the cage?”


“I’m not sure. They seem to be in the cage, and thus protected- but I’m sure this isn’t foolproof. We’ll just need to think of something.”

“This will be tricky. For best results, one of us will need to get inside- breaking through one of the windows should be easy enough. By placing explosive tags at strategic locations on the inside and outside of the roof, we can bring it down- or at least damage it enough that it disrupts the barrier. This will alert everyone to our presence though, so we’ll need to hightail it out of here once it’s done.” Naruto muses, producing several explosive tags from his utility pouch.


“We’ll be able to place two of them rather easily.” Hinata says, producing her own tags. “The two nearest corners should prove an issue. When we have to get close to those people, though… that might be an issue. Whoever sneaks inside will need to be extra careful, too.”


“So then, who’s gonna volunteer?” You ask the group.

“....Syke!” you cheer quietly, giving both of them an eager smile. “I’ve got this one handled!”


“If you’re sure, sis. Just be careful, alright? Dad will kill me if you get yourself hurt.” He stresses- though he does still have a small grin from your antics.


“Yeah, yeah- leave it to me. Can’t have you overdoing it, either. Hinata, keep him out of trouble, alright?” You retort, giving Hinata a sly smile.


She looks at you quizzically- then blushes a tiny bit.


“A-anyway! We’ll wait for an opportune moment, so wait for me to give the signal. I’ll keep watch with the Byakugan, to see when they’re the most distracted.” Hinata proclaims.


You suppress a snicker, then turn to watch your father’s fight- watching him fight is always a marvel, though you’ve never seen him do it seriously. Even now, you don’t think he’s really giving it his all- even though he’s dancing around the two other men like it’s nothing.


Despite it all, he even has a smile on his face- that’s like him, to always be upbeat. Confidence in his abilities, in his people- his children.


Even you, no matter many times you screw up.


An unwelcome memory presents itself ever so briefly-


With father’s help, Naruto had learned the Rasengan during his Chunin exams training. It was hard for him, father said, but he was able to perfect before the final round. He had absolute confidence that you could do the same- even on the last day of training, when you kept popping the balloon.


It would come in time, he said- that it took him months to create, and years to perfect.


But Naruto got it in a month- why couldn’t you?

This, though, should be easy by comparison. Breaking, entering, and detonating.

Basic shinobi stuff, right?

Planting your chains, you repel down the roof as stealthily as possible, always on the lookout for any threats- but nothing ever surfaces. Going down a floor, you even find a window that’s been left open!

What luck!

Dismissing your chains, you creep into the room, which is thankfully empty of any people. You aren’t quite sure what this room might be for- lots of paperwork strewn about and desks left ajar describe a hurried flight but give no clues as to the room’s purpose.

Doesn’t really matter, though, does it?

After heading out into the hallway and searching the nearby rooms, you’re able to find one that has a “storage access” to what is presumably the area just underneath the roof. Prying it open, you climb upwards into an area full of cobwebs, dust and darkness.

Thankfully, your eyes are quick to adjust, and you go about setting the most intricate set up of explosive tags you’ve ever done. Evenly spread throughout, all tied to a single trigger- it’s almost like art.

Too bad you’re gonna blow it all up, huh?

The fighting above you causes dust to shake free from the roof- you get the urge to sneeze… but your will is iron! You’ll give your teammates a few more moments to set their traps, and then ignite yours. Just gotta be patient, Nori.

Patient. You’d do breathing exercises like Tsuki always seems to, but you’d just get a mouthful of dust….

After a few moments, a sharp series of taps from the western wall gives you the signal- Naruto and Hinata are ready.

Here we go!

You run over to the exit hatch, yanking down on your trigger wire as you jump down. The result is almost immediate- a cacophony of explosions nearly deafens you, followed by several more mere moments later.

You make a beeline for the open window as the roof begins to crumble. At first you only hear it- but as you jump out the window in front of you, a cloud of dust surrounds you.

It masks your presence as you freefall, but you’ve gotta book it- where should you book it to?

I propose Neo-ROOT be loyal to the Hokage via the Hokage electing it's leader however once this is done that leader has complete independance and freedom from that kage. Utilizing the shunshin, you project yourself forward, towards a nearby surviving rooftop- you stumble slightly on the footing change- but you break into a run.

You put all your energy into running- you need to get out of here before any of those people notice you, or you’re toast!

So you run-

You decide Tsuki’s house is probably a safe place to hide- or at the very least, it’s far enough away that they won’t follow you. You need to check up on her, anyhow.

Your first obstacle is the stairs- but by this point, it seems likely nobody is following you- that you notice, anyway.

Making your way up the stairs, you can see the smoke still billowing off the Hokage building- and other places in Konoha as well. Everyone’s so disjointed, it’s impossible to tell if Konoha has the upper hand or not…. But you didn’t see any Ame or Suna shinobi on the way here, at least.

As you round the last corner, though, that small hope is extinguished.

Tsuki’s house, the Norihime Manor, lies in rubble before you.

Intent on hunting down Danzo, you decided to head towards the Hokage’s last known location- the Hokage Offices. You had nearly arrived when there was an audible explosion- from what you could see, the roof had collapsed inwards.


There had been a purple barrier there before, likely where the Hokage was- but it’s gone now, with no indication of the cause. Did the Fourth manage to break out?


Well, no matter; you still need to find Danzo. Even if Minato is no longer there, the Hokage building should still have been his destination….


So, you continue on. Up close, the devastation of your hometown is much than it initially looked. Shinobi of all factions lay dead in the street, with several buildings and homes either partially destroyed or entirely leveled. It turns your stomach- these homes likely didn’t have safe bunkers or places to hide….


It passes quickly, but the thought remains, before your outlook begins to change it ever so slightly, the more destruction you witness.


These people, these Akatsuki…


They were targeting civilians. This isn’t some war between shinobi- this is a targeted attack against your home, with the intent of destroying it outright, or doing enough damage to cripple it forever.


You’d been pondering Suna’s motives since the attack began- but this is so extreme, you cannot imagine Rasa agreed to this. Maybe he is more brutal and heavy handed than you initially perceived, but Itachi-sensei seemed to respect the man. His grievances with Konoha surely couldn’t have warranted this….


Making a sharp turn, you enter what seems to have been another battlefield. What looks to be gold dust is scattered about in varying quantities- but there doesn’t seem to be a body.


Still on high alert, you continue upwards towards the plaza of the Hokage’s offices….

What greets you is nothing short of the sight of a massacre. Bodies are everywhere, with bugs seemingly buzzing about in large swarms.

Wait, bugs?

Taking a closer look, you can see them- Aburame men and women, clad in black, controlling the bugs.

The bugs seem to be crawling over the living as well- including Danzo, who you spot near several Hyuga and Aburame men, who are sharing conversation.

“Danzo!” you call out, running to his side.

The old shinobi slowly rises, ceasing his conversation with the Aburame.

“Tsuki. Stop.” Danzo commands.

You immediately stop, but shoot him a quizzical look.

“We’re dealing with Orochimaru, among several other hostiles adept at controlling people and changing shape. I need you to answer a question that only you would know.” He explains.

You cock your head to one side. “Alright, I understand.”

Danzo’s face softens.

“What is the name of the companion I gave you when you were just a little girl?”

“Yume, of course.” You reply without a second thought.

Speaking of Yume, had he been in your room…. Along with Ebsiu-sensei’s belongings?

Not for the first time today, you feel like breaking out in a string of expletives-

But as usual, your common sense prevails. It would be rather unseemly to do in front of an audience, anyway.
