God damn, your head hurts like a bitch. Where are you? You blink your eyes a few times, adjusting to the light of the room as you look around in said dimly lit room that you've awoken in.

What do you do?

You examine the space around you. You find that directly beneath you is a stone pedestal of some kind. It is curved. You briefly wonder to yourself how it wasn't uncomfortable. The walls and floor of the dimly lit room you have found yourself in are covered in tree roots/branches, but you're not really sure which it is. Off in the distance, you think you can see a door, but sadly cannot fully make it out in this lighting. Your eyesight has adjusted a bit, however, and the dim lighting of the room has turned into a comforting dull yellow shade across everything in it.

What do you do?

The door off in the distance slowly opens and an older gentleman in a cloak of some sort slowly walks into the room.

"Ah, you must be the new monster master that Watabou brought us. I'm sure you've got a lot of questions, but I need to take you to go see the king now. If you would please follow me?"

Ask where are we and who are you while walking.

You decide on walking and talking. The outside of where you woke up is a bit more lit up compared to the inside of wherever it was you were before. As you're on your way out the door, you notice quite a few book shelves, and a few pedestals with glowing light on top of them. You decide to make note of all this for later.

While walking up one of many sets of stairs in between various citizens stopping the old man to ask if you're the new recruit, or something around those lines, up what you assume to be several sets of gigantic tree branches, you then find the time to ask the old man where "here" is, and who he is.

"Oh? Didn't Watabou tell you? This is the Great Tree kingdom. We had him bring you here to have us win the Starry Night Tournament. And the ensuing Starry Tournament that will happen after that."

After a bit of walking, and more citizens of the great tree introducing themselves, eventually you and the old man reached the top of the great tree. You were currently standing in/on a plaza, with a staircase leading into what you could only assume to be the throne room. There is also a path to your right, but currently, it is blocked off due to a gigantic blue blob with a crown in it's head... sleeping? in the path. There was also a man wearing red armor who looked significantly frustrated at said blob, occasionally kicking it, and if he wasn't so far away, you'd swear he was yelling at it to get up and stop being lazy. The old man spoke up at this point, as several seconds had passed, and as fun as watching the blob and man was, you did still have a goal to accomplish.

"Well, are you going to stand there all day staring at that sleeping king slime, or are you going to go on in? We can't keep his majesty waiting forever, you know."

The old man laughed just a bit and slowly nudged you up the staircase with his cane, not too far behind you. Inside of the doorway you had just been pushed through was a surprisingly well furnished castle of sorts. It was more of an entry hall with a few smaller staircases off to both sides and a massive staircase leading up to what you assume to be the throne room, if the red carpet on said stairs was anything to go by. You think to yourself about how nicely decorated this place is despite being inside of a tree as you walk up the grand staircase, eventually reaching the throne room. Upon reaching the throne room, you were met with a few people: The king himself, a young man with blonde hair and a short but well-kept beard, his advisor, a man with black hair and a slightly mysterious demeanor about himself, and two jesters. The old man let out a cough to break the silence and spoke up.

"Sorry we took so long, your majesty, but we stopped to smell the flowers along the way. That King Slime is sleeping outside of your... I mean the Medal Man's place again. I'll go take care of it now."

The old man then took his leave, leaving a bit of an awkward silence between you, the king, his advisor, and the two jesters, who were standing at position. The advisor coughed and then spoke up.

"A-Ahem, yes. Presenting His Royal Majesty, the king of Great Tree."
"Thank you. Merlin. I'll take it from here. Hello there. I am the king of the Great Tree, Artorius Pendragon. What is your name? Or maybe you'd prefer to just give me an alias instead?"

You think about what your name is for a good few moments before realizing that it is indeed Loto. You consider using an Alias like Tristan or Gwyndolin instead, but come to the mental conclusion that the queen is probably named Gwyndolin.

"Loto. My name is Loto, your Majesty."
"Very well, Sir Loto. It's a pleasure to meet you. As I'm sure you've already heard, we need you to clear the Starry Night Tournament for us as a representative. Now I can't possibly expect you to do it all at once, so we're going to have to jump through a series of convoluted, but still very rational hoops to train yourself to get there. To that end, we've opened up the traveler's gates in the basement, and you can use the monster farm as you see fit. Sadly we recently had all but one or two of the monsters escape due to reasons entirely beyond the caretaker's control. He's been appropriately reprimanded for not telling me sooner, but is otherwise in perfect health and still working his job. I would suggest you go pick up one of the monsters that didn't flee from the farm, and head down to the gate of beginning to start your journey. Now, if you'll excuse me, I am very busy. Busy, busy, busy..."

Artorius proceeded to get up from his chair, and scurried off behind the curtains to the left. You're sure you hear at least two doors open and close in the process. What a strange man.

"A-Ahem. Sir terry, I should probably give you these now. We've arranged for a few things to be given to you for your journey."

>You got:
A set of breeding wands!
An Egg Evaluator!
35 Tiny Medals!
a Wyvern Wing!
5 Sirloin Steaks! (Somehow, you will never run out of them, however)

And somehow, Merlin managed to magic up a floating coffin.

"However, you probably won't be needing this, so I'll turn it into something more portable for now. Just say a simple spell and it will return to it's normal size should you need it."

>You learned the monster tamer magic to resize the floating coffin!

"Now then, please hurry along. I'm sure our dear monster manager must be very eager to meet you."

You decide to go directly to the farm.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v-VRbYMVlk0

As you leave the throne room, you head down the carpeted steps. Since you're not being rushed, you now have the time to realize, this is some really nice plush carpet, despite the fact that it looks like silk. You wonder to yourself, how do they keep it maintained? No, wait, now isn't the time to be pondering about this. You need to get to the farm. Shaking your head for a few moments and patting your cheeks lightly, you scurry down the rest of the stairs, and after asking a nearby guard for directions take a left, arriving at another set of stairs that head up this time. You pout lightly as you question why this place has so many damn stairs and no ramps as you ascend the stairs and find a wonderful pasture at what you assume to be the very top of the tree. Directly in front of you is a young man, not much older than you, in fact.

"Well, well, 'ello there chap. What might you be doing here in the monster farm today?"

"The king told me to come get a monster. I assume there's at least one here for me?"

"Ah... Yes. About that. Sadly we've only got a slime left behind by a previous champion of the starry night, and a metal slime left behind by the previous king. He's currently hiding however, and I haven't been able to find him yet today. So I guess you'll have to make do with the slime."

"Yes, I'd like to name the slime."

You stare at your new companion and think on the name for a few moments, Lili, or Slim...

"I think I'll call you Slilim. One day you're gonna be awesome."

"It's a pleasure to meetcha then, Loto! I hope you'll take as good care of me as Sir Terry did so long ago."

Wait? Who is this Terry? Based off what the monster manager guy said, he was a prior Starry Night champion, but the name in and of itself sounded familiar. Maybe you knew it from somewhere?

In any case, having settled the name, you quickly make your way to the gate of beginning. Yet again you get lost on what have been a simple walk down the hall and have to ask a guard which way you are going because damn is this place huge and you have not yet developed a sense of direction in it. Maybe you could teach Slilim to remember some of this stuff for you if you couldn't get it down eventually.

Once you get to the Traveler's gate, you casually walk into it, a light buzzing noise filling your ears for a moment before wraping you in light and sending you off to a wooded area overlooking a small plains clearing in an otherwise very mountainous area. Nearby are a few generic looking rocks and herb leaves, along with a log that looks like you could slide down it to get into the clearing area, which is full of generic rpg level 1 experience fodder monsters. It's almost wonderful to look at, there are flying black bat-like creatures, gigantic blue ant-eater-like creatures, some really strange platypus-like creatures, and more slimes that look just like Slilim, but probably aren't anywhere near as good.

You snap yourself out of the panic attack you were about to have by slapping yourself in the face. What kind of hero are you? Real heroes don't have panic attacks this easily, and neither do you.

"Uh, Loto? Are you all right? You glooped terrified there for a moment."
"I'm... Fine. Just a bit of start of the adventure anxiety is all. I'm sure I'll stop shaking in a moment, too"

After managing to calm yourself down a little more so you can walk straight, you jump onto the log and slide down it. Moments later, Slilim comes sliding down after you. And then the fun starts. One of the black bat-like creatures notices you and charges you and Slilim!

"Cool! I guess that settles it then. I'm Dracky, you can call me what you want, but know that my Crack and Sizz spells are unparalleled among all the Dracky here."

You use your herbs up and against your better judgement, hop inside the well. Surprisingly, everything just fades to black for a few moments before your vision fades back in and you're standing in a marshland of some sort on top of a rather tall stump. There is a ladder to your right, and what you assume used to be a very sturdy branch to your left that leads to a cliff with a treasure chest on it. You can see a few exits to this area, one to the north, which would be your right, one to the south on the cliff with the treasure chest, and one to the east. Well, this is a very awkward change of pace. Now you're in a very green and very open grassland-type area. There only seems to be one way out of this room and that's to the north. However directly to your left is a glowing obelisk of some sort. You feel the urge to touch it well up inside you, but suppress it for the time being. There's also a tree off in the distance but there's nothing special to note about it, it's just a tree. I mean I guess you could climb up into it or something and take a nap if you wanted, the background music here is pretty calming after all.

Third Verse, same as the first. Except this time the heal slime collapses. The battle has met its end. You gained *** experience and *** gold! Your Monsters leveled up to level 7!

"Gh... Fine. I'll go back to the farm with you. But I'm joining your team!"

>Hale has joined your team! Would you like to rename it? Y/N

A good ten seconds after the Heal Slime joins your team, a strange round furry blue creature with white fur floats down from the sky.

"Wow, good job dealing with Hale. I'll take you back to the Great Tree now."

Your vision fades once again as the buzzing takes over, and before you know it, you're back in the Great Tree throne room again, in front of Artorius and Merlin.

"Oh, you're back already? Good job. I'm sure Sir Kay will be thankful too, because he's been hard at work to finish renovations before you get back. Anyway, I need to go now, because I am oh so busy. Busy... Busy... Busy..."

Artorius walks away and goes behind the curtains to the right once more. You swear you hear the same two doors open and close, too. Merlin coughs to break the silence.

"May the power of Great Tree bless Sir Loto!"

Your perception flashes between monotone black and white for a few moments, but suddenly you feel a lot better, as do your monsters.

"Sir Loto, might I suggest you go to the Arena now? You'll need to pass several tests in the Arena to open up more Traveler's Gates. You could instead go and visit the Ki-Medal man and drop off all of those Tiny Medals for some decent prizes if you want, too."

You decide to look around the Great Tree. You find that you can only get down to the Arena level currently, as there is a bratty child blocking your way from further going down to the town square and monster farm. As she's talking, you remember that Merlin and Artorius still haven't given you that damned scout's proof yet.

You decide that it's probably best you go back and get your fucking ring. Reality isn't going to continuously give you handouts forever, after all. You headed up to the throne room again.

"Merlin, isn't there something you needed to give to me so I could be a proper monster tamer?"
"Oh? I guess I did forget to give you your proof. My Sincerest apologies, sir Loto, here it is now."

And with that out of the way you set off out of the throne room once more.

Are you really sure you want to do that? It might not cost any money after being restructured by the remake, but the party is still only level 5 across the board. I mean, people have done it before.
>>
>>776832
Is it really hard as you say it is?
If so I'm fine with bumping down F.

Monsters is a special kind of meta-gaming hell. You can literally skip over half of the gates in the game once you gain access to breeding.

>>776787

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i_g-lqFvxqg

You decide sure, why not, let's go with hard mode and pick F class. The old lady at the counter begins to question your logic, but then, after a sharp inhale says that it's not worth the effort. You step into the Arena and find yourself surrounded by a crowd of people!

"And now presenting Great Tree's newest scout, Loto!"

In front of you stood some no-name tamer from somewhere in the tree you hadn't been yet, and his four tree stump monsters.

Wow, you suddenly aren't sure you were ready for this any more, Mimi was the only one that hit anything. I mean sure, she took out that tree stump like it was nothing with a single Fizz spell, but still, the rest of your team missed pitifully. Thankfully the training montage you had in the traveler's gate meant that your team actually had defenses, so they all stood strong after getting hit by the remaining three stumps.

Wow, never mind, you were totally ready for this. Your team manages to slaughter the remaining three stumps, though Juno seems to have gone a bit overboard... It tore the last stump clean in two before it poofed. That probably hurt a fair amount. Good thing monsters go poof instead of dying forever, right? Right?

>You won!

You continue on to the next match, because the text boxes won't stop scrolling and you can't really leave between matches because of that rather intimidating Wild Slime guarding the doorway. The next competitor comes out. Another no-name tamer. Has a team littered with what looks like zombies and more of those god damn tree stumps. Two of each to be exact. This doesn't look like it's going to be all that fun.

"After a spectacular first match, it's time for round two!"

Slilim and Mimi are suddenly your most competent monsters as they remove the tree stumps from existence with magic. Yacob and Juno on the other hand flail needlessly at the zombie and only manage to scratch them, if you could even call it that. And then Yacob managed to get himself focused by the two zombies. He's looking pretty low on health, but Juno seems primed to heal him next round.

Wow, Yacob can't catch a break today. But that's fine because Slilim and Mimi have got this in the bag as they slam the zombies with magic. Juno proceeds with healing duty and restores Yacob to full health somewhere in the middle of the zombie slaughter.

>You win!

Proceeding to the next round...

"And that's two victories down! But can Loto defeat the next challenger? He's been making a name for himself lately in the monster arena as some kind of spooky necromancer! Presenting Master John!"

A man in a spooky looking robe wearing some kind of skeleton mask slowly walks into the arena in front of you. Four different kinds of undead shuffle in behind him. You see a Skeleton of some sort, more of those zombies from before, some kind of haunted armor, and a very freaky looking ghost. The man in the costume speaks up. His voice betrays the spooky demeanor in that it sounds surprisingly normal. Maybe he just isn't feeling the spook today?

"I'm honestly just here because they asked me to come in. Normally somebody else is supposed to run this difficulty."
"Without any further ado, let the battle begin!

Yacob still can't seem to catch a break. He goes straight up to the suit of armor and immediately snaps part of one of his claws off. Thankfully it's not too serious, save for a massive blow to his ego. Slilim, Mimi, and Juno have his back though, with Slilim and Mimi blasting away the Zombie and Skeleton with one spell each, and Juno casting heal on Yacob when the ghost and armor nearly kill him.

"Common man, at least try to play the role."
"Sorry man, I'm really just not feeling it. They randomly grabbed me at the tavern. I'd only just gotten back from traveling. Honestly all I want to do is go back to the inn and sleep for a while."

You can't really fault him for his reasoning. But you can still be mad that he's not being spooky. Which you are. You're visibly pouting. Your monsters see this and psyche themselves out.

Yacob finally gets his shit together and fucking dices the ghost somehow, though honestly, Mimi had softened it up first. Juno follows suit, slapping the shit out of the armor after Slilim smacked it with magic.

>You win!

"After a rather wonderful performance, the first time Master Loto has managed to clear not only the F class, but he managed to clear it before even attempting the G class! We've got a truly great master on our hands here, folks! That's all for today however, thanks for attending!"

The Wild slime that was guarding the doorway approaches you and escorts you out of the arena. Once you're back at the front desk, Merlin is already somehow behind you and begins talking before you can even turn around.

"Sir Loto, great job with winning the F cup before even challenging the G cup. The last person to do that was Master Terry, at least according to the records we have at the castle. But he challenged the D cup and won with some sort of eldritch castle monster. Nobody's really sure where it came from, or where it went afterward, though. Anyway, the king would like you to come see him as soon as you can, but can wait a little while, since you now have access to the starry shrine for synthesis."

Merlin inhales deeply. Somehow he'd said all that without breathing between words.

"And with that, I'll take my leave."

And like that, you blinked, and he was gone. Wizards man. The old lady at the counter hands you some prize money, making a comment about how you've got a decent amount of talent.

Good dice rolls helped a lot, but it helps that Mimi is actually really good for a Dracky. You could make her better if you caught some more monsters once she hits level 10.

>>777313

You decide it's probably best to go see Artorius. On the way up to the throne room, you notice a suspicious pillar, and get shoved into it by somebody who's in a rush. In a struggle to regain your balance, you end up activating it by accident.

>You've learned the Zoom and Beacon Zoom spells! Now you don't have to walk everywhere forever for the most part if you don't want to as long as you have a focus to where you're going!

With that out of the way, you continue on your way to the throne room. When you get there, you find a happily surprised Artorious, whose face-spanning grin, while a little creepy because he looks like he could kill a man with that expression, is sincere enough for you.

"Good job Loto, you managed to clear two difficulties at once. Not many people are capable of that right out of the gate. I think I'll reward you by opening up two sets of travelers gates instead of just one set. Now then, I need to get back to work. I am quite busy after all!"

Artorius wanders off into his room again. You hear the same two doors, as always.

Good job. You caught the Tablet. You've got an Archive now. No more will monsters be a mystery for you, you can just hold it up and use the camera on it to get the information. Kind of like a pokedex... Whatever that is. The man behind the counter in the library that thrust it at you from across the room also tells you that, along with being surprisingly aerodynamic and relatively indestructible, that you can use it for a good number of things that a modern scout would want to do.

>List of things you can now do:
Use the dPad Archive to scan a monster to find out what it is.
Use the dPad Archive to get a free monster every so often. You'll have to fight it first, though. And it will be subjectively strong. You're not going to want to do this for a while.
The dPad Archive serves as a way to store your items responsibly. You can use it to play tetris with your item bag, store gold on it, and it serves as a place to keep your monsters when they're either unconscious, or not on your main team.
After clearing a rank in the Arena, you can come back to the library and download more information on monsters. Otherwise, you'll have to find one for the first time to register it in your codex app.

So what do you want to buy? There's some gear in the gear shop at the Shopping Area across from the town square, the meat shop is pointless since you've got an infinite supply of the best monster meat in the game already, you could buy some healing items I guess, there's some kind of odd shop that won't service you until you've done something to do with this thing called Wi-Fi, and then there's this gigantic steak on a grill off in the distance.

Oh and I guess there's a bank off to the side but do you guys even believe in using that since there isn't really a benefit?

QM please do NOT let this quest die, I know how much it can be trouble to set up a quest. But, this game was like my childhood. My physical copy of it died years ago due to battery death and I lost my monsters or ability to really save or start again.

I seriously hate that the new 3ds games will never come to the US because babbies first monster was all pokemon. Which is just a bunch of formulaic tripe that is totally boring for 90% of adults.

Ohwell, enough drunken emotional shit, I love this quest so far, at the very least because I love the material and how you are handling it so far. That said, feel free to take all creative liberties you want, it can't get worse than DWM3 from what I have heard. Also, considering the two good ones are a gameboy and gameboy color game I gotta say there is a LOT of room for story enhancement.
>>
>>781228
I promise I'm not going to let this die until at least after the starry night tournament, I'll say that much for sure. It would be a waste of a perfectly good plot. I'll ruin my sleep schedule three times over before I let that happen.
Pop by in about... 14~16ish hours and I should be up and running the quest though. I try to run from about 5~6PM until I run out of steam for the night, which is typically around 4~6 hours later at 10~12. It's 3:39 AM right now for me, for reference.

Also my physical copy of the gbc game is dead too, but the 3ds games are great so if you've got a hacked 3ds or the means to run the patch somehow and play the game anyway, I'd say give it a shot.

I'm heavily basing a good number of things in this great tree off of the 3ds version's great tree. There's even a portal to the blight tree somewhere in town square if the players can figure out where it is. You'll have to roll to find it before the post-game though.

All that being said though if somebody could archive this thread when the time comes and get the url to me somehow, that would be fantastic, because I'm still new to this questing thing.
