You slept like the dead. And the moment you woke up to see Cuddles coiled up and resting on your eye, you just had to gently bat him away and let him retreat back to Winona. Hmph, snakes. They're nice but there are limits.

The morning was spent getting breakfast into your system, taking a shower, then putting your face on for today's work as well. Today, you were going to be productive, even more productive than yesterday you reckon! And then the Captain will see you and she will say, “Good job, Commander, here's your promotion!”

And then Caldwell will say, “Oh my, Ellie! I can't believe I was wrong about you! Let me kiss your feet! There, there!”

You're starting to have weird fantasies.

Right, no more mister nice girl. You say goodbye to your crew then head out to work. Out of the hangar, you immediately find Denise, giving you a thumbs up and a smile as she sits upon her Kettenkrad. “Hey there, Ellie! Ready to go to work?”

Another day, hopefully less panicked than yesterday.

And we should buy some coveralls, for when we have to do inspections in dirty areas or heavy labour days and we don't want to soil our officers uniform

“Sure, I guess.” You sit on the back of the Kettenkrad, rubbing some sleep out of your eyes. Denise quickly proceeds to pour you a hot cup of coffee into a thermos cap. “Oh, thank you.” You take a sip, and immediately some warmth and rejuvenation flows through you. Yes, this is a working girl's drink. You yawn a little bit. “Right, let's do this.”

“Let's!” Denise speeds away.

With the scrap pile all gone and the wall now completely repaired, things now seemed relatively calm. The water itself was already drained out with the help of some firefighting trucks and a lot of elbow grease from the overnight crews. And now, the business of actually constructing the dorm rooms was on. Your team of girls grew from around a few shifts mashed together, to at least 300 girls at once working around the clock to get each room together.

You checked it over with Athena as you walked on the catwalk. There would be ten floors, all for the freshmen. Each room would be a double bedroom housing two freshmen. There will be a bathroom, a closet for clothes, bed, two desks, a TV, lights, and access to internet and other network facilities throughout LGA. Not a bad deal. “We've already completed fifteen rooms,” she says.

“Out of?”

“Two hundred.” Oh.

Tessa smiles, folding her arms. “I believe at the rate we're going, we'll have it at least halfway by the time the whistle blows.”

“Not unless something goes-” You hear a loud crash. Athena looks up from the blueprint. “... wrong.”

You all look down to see a crane completely tipped over, crushing two of the prefabricated rooms. “Everyone okay?” you yell. They all nod, giving thumbs up to you. “What happened!?”

One of the Naval Studies students raises her hand. “We might have accidentally loaded too much on the crane. And now uh...” You look at the crane truck itself. Completely on its side, the loading jib looks flexed all the way, almost snapped in half in fact, and it was now crashed through two roofs as well. “Well, things could be worse.”

That was your only fucking crane. Damn it.

“What do we do now?” asks Athena. “That was our only crane and now it's busted.”

> “It's not busted. We just have to give it some love and put it upright again.”
> “I'll have to 'requisition' another one.”

What this anon said. Load limits are not to be ignored. Next one who does it, might just have to carry it. By hand...
>>
> “I'll have to 'requisition' another one.”

“Athena, take damage control.” She nods. “I'll go and requisition another crane truck.”

“From where?” asks Tessa.

-

-

“Quoi?” The only available crane truck that you could reliable take without too much trouble happened to be in the hands of the Fishery crews. The lightly tanned girl wearing nothing but a tank top and blue short shorts stood at the pier of one of the many gigantic fish tanks where game fish of all kinds from tuna, salmon, trout, and everything in between was being fished and farmed for food. “Y'all needa barra yon crane, why?”

“Our last one got overcooked by some overzealous workers,” you say. You dare not mention that it's on its side and the jib was almost snapped in half by the overloading. “Can I just borrow your truck for today?”

She shakes her head. “No, no, desole!”

“You're not even using the truck though,” you say.

The girl places her hand on her chest. “I know that. But we try not to let other people use our stuff, Commander. The last time someone had to borrow something from us, we never got it back.”

“Them damn cheerleadas!” yells one of the fishers as she nets a school of trout. “They's still ain't returned our seaplane! Can't een fish fer them damn octopus!”

“Notta mention dem fucks in da Engineersa what keeps borrows our fishing lines or dem stage fucks keep stealing our lines too for thems stupid plays. I hadda up to here with Red Dawn: Da Musica!” yells another fisher.

Of course, you get the Department full of Creoles.

They own a pair of Grumman Gooses for exploring on the water and for buzzing Naval Studies Girls out fishing for game they can't farm in the tanks.
>>
>>771527
Maybe the boys can lend a Goose for Octopus fishing.

And we should go kick Cheerleader ass for plane theft!
>>
> “I promise I'll give it back, you can even come with me.”

“I promise, hand on my heart.” You place your hand over your heart. “I'll give it back. If you want, you can even come with me. Okay?” The fishers all look at each other. Two of them on top of the tank communicate with each other in what is apparently Cajun French, before nodding to the Chief Fisher.

“Awright,” she says. “We's gonna give da benefit of da doubt, oui?”

“Great!” you smile. “Let's go then!”

-

-

With that, the crane truck now replaced your stricken one. The first crane was moved out and was sent down to Engineering for repairs. The new one was now being strictly supervised by Athena (the previous supervisor having been sacked and now sent to KP to peel potatoes). “How are things?” you ask.

“Construction is going smoothly now,” says Tessa. “I think even with this setback and the delay from the leak, we should make our schedule for Friday.” You and your retinue, along with the fisher girl walk around, watching as girls weld the prefab rooms together, mount all the living luxuries in that can be nailed and welded down, and then crane them to a particular set of metal spurs on the high walls to be mounted. The floors would come next, probably not today though. But it looks as if you've got ground level done.

Carver comes up to you. “Ellie. Big news.” You quirk your brow. “I just got off the phone with Block 3, they're almost done with their expansion.” What? Really? “They're about fifty rooms off before they can call it a day.” You are...

You check your list.

135 rooms away.

Oh jeez.

> No, no. You're not going to get into a building competition with people you don't know.

“Nope.” You take a deep breath. “We're not going to get into a competition. This is about building this well, not quickly. Only reason they got a leg up on us was because of the leak.” You place your hands on your hips, sternly addressing Carver. “We are doing this by the book, and we are doing this on schedule. No overloading, no tricks, no nothing.”

She salutes. “Got it!” She quickly runs back to her team to keep coordinating them.

You fold your arms, looking around as another prefabricated room gets craned into place along the wall. Scaffolding all long the walls is set up for engineers to fix the girders and bolt, weld, rivet, and everything else into place. Trucks carrying girders, steel plates, and iron drive by on designated routes.

Yes, this is the power of Naval Studies.

“Commander!” A Radio Officer hands you a radio. “It's the Captain.”

You nod, taking it. “Captain?”

“Hey, Ellie!” The Captain sounds pretty positive. “How are things down there?”

“Well, the situation is going smoothly. We're currently on pace to build half of the expected 200 rooms for this block. We did tip a crane unfortunately, but the issue has been resolved. Otherwise, we are going as scheduled. On time.”

“I see! Nice work, Ellie! I guess I was right to choose you over Caldwell.”

“What is Caldwell doing?” you ask.

“She's still in the Office figuring out logistics reports, emptying out Admiral Nimitz's litterbox, you know how it is?”

Oh. That actually sounds pretty boring since you're not there, nor is your retinue. It actually kind of makes you feel sorry for her.

Then again, this is the same girl that kind of laid it into you for your salary and your poor background. On the one hand, but... on the other... “Why do you ask?” says the Captain.

“Oh?” The Captain sounds a bit perplexed at your request. “I thought you two hated each other. That's why I assigned one over the other, make sure things didn't get too heated over who wanted what.”

“Well, I just think she might need some time out of the Office. And heck, I could use an extra pair of eyes and another mouth to tell others what to do. Can you do that, Captain?”

“Sure, but not today, I want her to finish up the work day in the Office then we can send her to you tomorrow and Friday.”

“Alright, that's reasonable.”

“Anything else?”

“No, we're good.”

“Alright. Godspeed then, Ellie!”

With that, you hand the radio over to the student and allow her to go about her day. You look around as more rooms are mounted into the walls, then secured into place. On the ground level, the first floor plates are busy being constructed together.

“Things seem to be looking up,” says Denise.

“Don't jinx it,” says Hilda.

“You know it,” says Athena. With that, they're gone before you can even ask them to stick around. Hmph. Alright then.

You arrive at the doorstep of the Etiquette Club's clubhouse with Denise and Mulcahy (Hilda having gone home as well). You knock on the door, and answering the door now is Iris. In the background you can hear some lovely violin music playing, as well you can see a very well manicured and well taken care of house. It seems almost stereotypical how clean and feminine the place is. “Ah. Elodie. Come to visit?”

“Yes, and no,” you say. “I need to help Griselda raise some money. I figured I could enlist your help, maybe get to know you a little too.”

“Ah, of course,” says Iris. “Come inside, we were just preparing dinner. I decided to try and a nice dish from the Far East, some fried noodles and a bit of barley tea. You will love it.” You nod, stepping in nervously.

Okay, now you feel guilty for tracking dirt and mud in her house. Mulcahy immediately resolves this guilt by grinding her boots against the porch step before entering. “Mulcahy!” You hiss. She looks up, surprised. “You're in a- you're in a house of... stop it!” She nods, stepping inside quickly.

The three of you enter into her dining room, where Azalea proceeds to seat you all. Rose as well sets out plates of fried noodles for all of you, mixed with some spicy leafy greens and some cuts of chicken as well. Wow, smells good. “If you're wondering.” Iris comes in as well, placing cups of tea in front of you. “Violet is downstairs in the basement.”

“What's she doing?” asks Denise.

Mulcahy coughs. “Probably checking on her armory.” You and Denise glance at her. “... me and her occasionally meet at the range.” You know, you're starting to pick out an accent for Mulcahy, the more she talks the more clearer it becomes, hm.

Iris sits down as well. “So, Elodie. Did you have any ideas for funding, or perhaps you wanted to enjoy some dinner first?”

“Let's just talk first. We don't have to be all business.” Iris nods at that. “So, this is your clubhouse?”

“Yes.” Iris takes a sip of tea as Mulcahy and Denise wolf down their food. “We had it specially built from an old townhouse. Being a lady is managing one's home, making it clean, keeping it secure. That's why we indulge Violet's somewhat mad tendencies with her firearms.”

“I can hear you from down here you know,” says Violet, angrily but elegantly.

“Sorry, Violet,” says Iris.

“Quite alright,” Violet responds.

Iris continues. “Here in the Etiquette Club, we must do all things as a lady should. And that means...” She looks over at Mulcahy and Denise. “Table manners.” The two stop, then slowly start to brush their cheeks with their napkins and lift their elbows off the table. “I'm sure you know how it is, Elodie.”

You shrug. “My parents never really cared about table manners. We were just lucky to have food most of the time.”

“Ah, right, you come from a relatively impoverished background. I almost forgot, I apologize.” You shake your head, dismissing it. “I will say, I cannot imagine having to be raised in a family structure like that. But I suppose since you came out this way, and since you very rarely if ever speak ill of your parents, things must be nice.” You nod. “Very good.”

Denise looks over at Iris. “So, do you guys have any other hobbies besides being elegant all the time?”

“Well, we do gardening, Violet has her guns. Rose over there actually paints,” says Iris. “She painted me a few times for a competition.” Rose immediately slides over with several canvases, then shows them off. They're all beautiful almost-Renaissance like in their design. “She's won several art competitions with them.” Rose shows off a painting of Iris standing in the sunset, the light shining on her face. “That one is one of my favorites.” Another one. “Very nice that one, we had to wait a day or two for Rose to get her references right.” Rose prepares to pull the curtain on another one but- “Oh, not that one, let's put that one away, Rose.”

Rose blinks. “Are you sure, Iris? I think Elodie would most appreciate my knowledge of your anatom-”

“L- let's not.” Iris has a blush slowly creep up her cheeks. “Not in front of the guests.” She looks at you, obviously intending to break the air. “I'm sorry. Were we speaking about money?”

Iris stands up. “Nonsense. We should go now, see if we can resolve that.”

“But-“ Iris blinks. “Iris-“

“A lady does not leave someone to hang,” Iris says simply. “We can bring our dinner with us. Camillia!” Camillia pokes her head into the dining room, her cute face sprayed with black grease and oil apparently from working on something mechanical. Doesn’t stop her from politely waving to you three and having a sip of tea as well. “Prepare the car for us, will you?”

“You don’t have to, Iris,” you say. “This is my fault.” It really is. How could you forget about Penny for over a month, especially after you said you’d help her? Oh God! Why!?

Camillia pops her head back. “Did you want the minivan or perhaps we should take the convertible?”

You all drive up to Penny’s dorm building. Once you’re parked, you quickly rush out and hurry up the steps. You knock on Penny’s door. “Penny, Penny, it’s me, Elodie! Are you in there?!” Oh jeez. Maybe she’s not talking to you because she hates you! No, no, no! Oh God! This is bad, real bad!

Suddenly, the door opens. Opening the door is Penny. “Oh, Ellie!” She smiles a little. “Wow, it’s been a while.

“I’m so sorry, I said I’d come to help, but things got way busy and I-“

Penny shakes her head. “No, no, it’s okay! Honest! You look-“ She tilts her head, confused. “You look like a ghost scared the hell out of you.”

You grab her arms. “YOU HAVE TO LET ME HELP YOU! WE NEED TO COOK! WHY ARE YOU NOT MAD! AAAHH!”

Penny gently pushes you away. “Calm down, calm down! Jesus, Ellie.” She smiles a bit, apparently trying to calm you down. “Look, lemme explain. Come on in.” You step in with her, and see that her dorm has gotten a bit cleaner than you last remembered it seems. “You see, Ellie, I’ve been working hard on getting better. It’s been hard without you, but I realized that I couldn’t exactly wait for you to come back.”

“Still sorry about that,” you say.

“But.” Penny walks into the kitchen and pulls out a pan of what appear to be chocolate chip cookies from the oven. “I managed to finally figure out how to cook cookies!”

“Really?” You take a cookie. She nods at you, allowing you to take a bite. Everyone else takes cookies as well, and start munching on them. You take a bite and… wow, this is really good! “Wow! Penny, this is great!” The flavor is just so rich. Nice! “This is really delicious! You’ve figured out how to cook then!”

Penny stares at you. “… I said I figured out how to cook cookies.”

Oh.

Iris steps up. “Well, if you want, all of us can help you, Penny. And we will help you and your club reach success with the Tankery team as well. Perhaps you may even get new members from it.”

Penny nods, a bit glum now on the reminder that now apparently she can only cook cookies. “Right, right. So what did you want to do, Ellie?”

We can start with selling cookies but we should diversify your offerings, that's the advantage of being Home Ec instead of say Girl Scouts, you can make anything!

Start with Pies, Tarts and Cakes. Then move on to savory stuff.
>>
>>773453
Not a cook but I have always heard that pastry and baking is harder than the main course. Have I been lied to this whole time?
>>
>>773502
Nope, pastry/baking's tougher than a lot of other kinds of cooking, because it requires you to pay close attention to timing and ingredient mixtures.
>>
>>773502
Me neither, but maybe just making it look good is the hard part?

Else its just a follow these steps recipe.
>>
>>773502

They are harder.

Just with the same kind of ingredients, a change in tempering temperature or change in the style of mixing means you'd get a very different product.

Especially if you want a nice flaky crust. Precision is everything in desserts.
>>
>>773502
Different things. One is a science one is an art. Baking, by being a science, at least gives her an outline for recipies. Then she can branch out. But, its merely a suggestion.
>>
> “We need to teach you to do more cooking.”

“We need to teach you to do more cooking,” you declare. “We can start with stuff similar to this. Pies, tarts, all that stuff. Then we can move onto bigger stuff. Okay?” You look at Iris, who nods, then at Denise and Mulcahy, who both nod in agreement.

Penny nods. “Alright!” She pumps her fist. “We’ll do this thing if it-“ She loses her grip on the pan, and immediately all the cookies go spilling onto the floor. “… we can make those again, don’t worry.”

Most of dinner time and well towards night time is spent experimenting, learning, and teaching. You realized finally what Penny’s problem was in regards to her cooking: she overthinks the process. This mostly results in her thinking she doesn’t have enough of a particular ingredient, which means she shoves a little bit too much of one thing into her cooking. And this of course ruins the mixture. So you had to basically beat it into Penny that she needs to just get the measurement right first, then forget about it once she cooks it.

Finally however, you have an apple pie. It doesn’t taste bad, but it’s not that great either. It’s a step in the right direction for sure. Now though, Penny was fast asleep on the couch, covered in cream and a bit of crust while Denise and Mulcahy clean the plates. There were lots of attempts.

“She’s sleeping quite soundly,” says Iris as she hands you a cup of tea. You take a sip. Ah, sweetness. “Still, the pie isn’t so bad. I think she’ll be quite good with a bit more practice.”

“Yeah, but she doesn’t very fast I guess,” you say. “She tries hard though, that’s what matters.”

Iris nods. “Anyway, it is getting late. We should be getting home.”

> “Alright, let’s head out then.”
> “Hold on, let’s wake Penny and make sure she’s got the lesson straight.”

would anyone be interested in a 4chan tankery league, either on /qst/ or another board? I'd explain more later, but just looking for interest on a few boards rn.

I'd be interested, explain.

Ask Iris where she comes from, I don't think we know anything about her family or stuff like that. Do they watch her Tankery matches?

I'd need to know more about what exactly that would entail to be interested.

>>

Rather insubstantial information.

Always wanted to run a quest on GuP mixed some other elements but never had time. Should I get serious?
>>
>>773649
You should go for it anon.

We need more Garupan Quests, I feel like the only QM who actually finishes them.
>>
>>773610
>>773613
So I'm hopping across some boards right now and looking for people, but what I envision is a "League" with mostly human-run teams, who develop their own compositions, tactics and so and run it against other teams, similar to running against an RNG generator with moderate user buffs/debuffs, to mitigate time required for each player, unless they want it to be in-depth and actively participate.

RPG'ing within teams or the league would be encouraged, and something that can build individual characters' skills while giving some depth and evolution to everything happening.

Initially it would take a little while to set up, due to having to write out tanks, characters, academies and so, but after that it would be simply "here's a map you'll be facing X on, give me what you'd do" and run it as a game, then tell everyone the results and keep on moving.

If we want to get in-depth we can RP sponsorships, news and so, giving more depth.

Anyways that's a rough idea, open to more additions and modifications. I have a decent idea of the mechanics.
>>
>>773654
You set a high standard Schteel.

I still need to do more research. I have the basic ideas but I need more.

>>773656
Oh my. Very ambitious.
>>
>>773656
Sounds interesting, but you're gonna have to put a lot of work into it if you want it to last.

Particularly, the mechanics are going to have to be rock solid otherwise player bitching would tank the endeavour, especially if there's PvP. The problem with consistent, representative mechanics though is they risk getting very complicated and bogging down play.

Regardless, you have my interest but again, I think I'd need to be able to see the mechanics and whatnot laid out explicitly to get a better idea of what critique would be useful.
>>
>>773678
Eh, I like these things. I sink tons of hours into making my own RPG datasheets and so.

While it would take a few hours out of my time each night, shouldn't be too hard beyond setting up the base.
>>
>>773688
Everything would be explicit, from crew effects to penetration, based on real-world values, where possible. There would be a set procedure for everything and we can run a few games where each individual rolls their own tank so people can get a feel.

Again, concepts and things you'd like to see are welcome.

And see >>773694 for my willingness to do this. By tons I mean something like at least 75+ on the last thing I did a month ago.
>>
>>773583
> “Alright, let’s head out then.”
But leave a note saying that we will be back.
>>
>>773649
Do it, more GuP's never bad, what do you need more info/research on? I might be able to point you in the right direction.
>>
> “Alright, let’s head out then.”

You decide to leave a note for Penny to read saying that you left for the night, but this time you'll actually be back for her later to teach her more about cooking and perhaps figure out a way to profit from it.

So now you were all in the minivan for now, driving back to the Tank Hangar. In the seat next to you was Iris, who was busy a bit reading. “What are you reading?”

“Moneyball,” she says. What? “Ingrid loaned it to me. It's quite interesting. A very concise look at the way one has to make due with scarce resources and how far they can get with it. Very interesting.”

“You read books like that?” you ask.

“Not a lot, but I decided to give her the benefit of the doubt I suppose,” she says. “It's holding my attention so far. I imagine my parents would be more interested perhaps.”

“Your parents baseball fans?” you ask.

“No, my parents aren't exactly the most uh... civilized people,” she says very softly. “But, they've raised me well, and I believe I am making them proud with Tankery. Unfortunately due to their work they can't attend my matches but they always give me well-wishes before the match.” You imagine asking about her parents is a bit of a sensitive topic, so you drop it for now. “You know, I was talking with Winona today actually.”

“Oh? What'd she tell you?” you ask. You all look back to see the girls napping in the back. Okay, you're clear.

“She told me you feel slightly ashamed for the possibility of ruining your mother's dream of going pro,” says Iris. Oh. Damn it, Winona. Loose lips sink ships damn it! “Why do you feel that?”

You shrug. “I dunno, maybe it's the teenage pregnancy or the stunning poverty, you know?”

“Well, they raised you well, didn't they?” says Iris. “Many would consider themselves lucky to have a daughter like you, and many more would consider themselves lucky to have parents like them.” Well, yeah, you suppose. “My parents always taught me that you must appreciate what you have, and learn to appreciate life as it is. Dreams, you follow them, yes. But you can't catch them. What do you catch instead are much better than dreams.”

“Like what?” you ask.

“That's a good question,” says Iris. “They never answered me when I said that.”

You sigh.

The minivan pulls up in front of the hangar. And you disembark. “I'm going to drive Denise and Mulcahy home,” says Iris. “Though, Ellie. My advice? Perhaps you should talk to your mother about it, okay?”

Guess I should kick it up a notch.

The new Mangas and movie have not helped the planning process.
>>

“Okay. I will, Iris.”

She smiles at you. “Remember, Elodie. A lady must always take life as it is and appreciate what she has, so she can learn to get what she wants.” She shuts the door. “Good luck!” With that, the van leaves you in the streetlight, right in front of the hangar.

You sigh. Iris is right, you need to talk to your mom about this. The longer you wait, the more it'll eat at you. And if it eats at you, it'll...

Ah!

You pull out your cellphone. Here you go. You can do this. You flip through your contacts, then pick out Mom from it. Okay. Here you go. You can do this, you can do this. You're the girl, you can confront your mom on this! You can tell her that you didn't ruin her life. Right, right, just press the button. Do it, do it. Just do it. Do it! Do it!

WHY AREN'T YOU DOING IT!?

Ah! Fuck. Are you really that scared of your Mom? What would your Mom say?

Actually, your Mom has been dodging this question for quite a while.

You take a deep breath, then shove your phone back into your skirt. Fuck! You kick the street a bit.

You'll wait until you're face to face with Mom.
