So I started figuring out how to get every girl to like you before the end of Part 3, where the last girl, Kuni, is able to be wooed."

She ends up as your partner for the Tournament arc. If you follow her lead, you don't win, but you do all right. She starts to respect you a little, and that lets you try to date her. However, there's a secret! If you train your Soul up to 500 before the Tournament, you can tell her to trust you and WIN the damn thing! That makes her instantly fall for you, though she goes super Tsundere about it. Thing is, you have to grind Soul training nonstop to reach that, and that's a problem."

You nod blankly. Robert flips through a few pages, and continues.

"So there's Izumi, and you have to impress her in week 3 at the gym to get her interested early. That requires a Body stat of at least 300, which you don't have time for if you want to get your Soul to 500 in time. Now, there's a training mode, Sacred Waterfall Training, at the shrine, but that's only unlocked at the culmination of Part 3 when you can save Kuni, the shrine maiden, from the Giant Kishin Egg attack. Sacred Waterfall Training boosts Soul and Body together, but by the time Kuni is unlocked it's too late. I tried talking to Kuni, and she's nice at first, but she gets weird if you do it too often and the only other thing you can do at the shrine is pray. What am I doing wrong here?"

You consider the mechanics. After a few questions, Robert tells you that there's only two ways to raise multiple stats at once: Sacred Waterfall and Prayer, but Prayer raises a random two stats by a tiny amount while lowering another by a small amount.

You suggest praying every day as a trial run, and NOT talking to Kuni. A small part of your brain wonders if it's possible that they thought this through as though the girls were somewhat realistic.

Robert grins. "So, you're saying the way to get Kuni's attention is to ignore her completely? If that worked in real life, I'd be COVERED in bitches, man! But I'll give it a try."

"If Katya is guaranteed, does that mean you aren't spending any time with her?"

"Well no, there's too much else to do once you meet the others..."

Grayson lets out a low whistle. "That's gotta be some sort of speed record. Bet Kia is super happy."

You shrug. "I'm just glad the witch didn't hurt anyone."

Grayson's jaw drops. Robert freezes mid-bite. They simultaneously exclaim "A WITCH?"

You shush them and continue, but you can feel Asuka's glare on your back now. Thanks guys.

"Yeah, a witch. She was watching. I saw her in the sky before she dropped into the city and disappeared. She was really far away, so I don't know who it was or anything, but Daisuke and Akemi think she might have been the reason there were two Kishin Eggs there."

Daisuke puts a hand on your shoulder. "Bro, you saw a witch and lived. You must have scared her off with your impressive combat skills! We gotta spar sometime... once I get a partner..." His eyes slide over to Asuka, who is still mining a hole through your back with her stare.

You have a momentary existential moment where you think about how, maybe Robert is right in a way. You're in charge of your own story, so you're kind of the protagonist, but if it's a story being told elsewhere, you're just a puppet being controlled by someone else. You shake the thought off and decide to practice your soul vision, focusing on Kia's soul. You can see the little burning soul she has, blue flames coming off in waves. It's a pretty soul, really. You tail her through the halls, as she heads for a small training room. She hesitates outside, unsure of what to do, before opening the door.

Does she know we're following her? You don't see anyone inside the room with a soul, so why would she go in? Is it a trap? Is she going to confess to you? Fight you?

"Well, at first, I was going to tease you more, but now I'm more wondering why you came in here, especially if you knew I was following you."

Kia fidgets with her hands. "You know how I asked you about SHinobu last night? How... do you feel... Ugh, I can't!" She tries to walk around you to the door.

I know, it hasn't been very long... but I feel like we've already known each other for a long time. I don't know why or how, but it's there."

You're about to speak, when the door opens of it's own accord. A tall, round man with very tanned skin is standing there. He looks angry.

"Kia? Who is this boy? And what are you doing, alone, in a private room with him?"

You see Kia shift from burning up with anxiety to frozen solid in a moment.

And he's looking between you and Kia suspiciously.

Oke nods. "I understand. Just be as careful in the future, all right?" He drops your hand after a moment, then pats Kia on the head. His palm is as big as her skull. "I'm proud of you, Kia. You're already doing us proud back at the house. We'll have to have a party or something eventually."

Kia nods, evidently not quite over the shock of her father appearing like that.

"Wonderful! Well, I have work to do, but I'll stop by again before I have to go!' Oke waves to you before going on his way. The floor quivers slightly as he treads.

You release a breath you didn't even realize you were holding. He was nice enough, but you could feel how much that man could destroy you if he were so inclined. It was similar to talking with Layla.

Kia slumps against the door frame. "I think I'm going back to my room for a while after that. I'm done with today already.

You have to agree. You're still not completely recovered from last night, and the small adrenaline rush from this encounter is already fading. You probably have one activity in you, as long as it isn't strenuous, before you're pooped.

You decide to let Kia go on her way after supressing the (admittedly still new) urge to tease her more. She gives you a small smile as she walks off,. You head for the front of the school instead, feeling curious about the city itself.

You find yourself walking down the steps into the town. There's a lot of commercial activity near the school area, with students needing places to both earn and spend money. As you walk down the street, a few places catch your eye. You don't have money, but it might be nice to explore...

You enter the clothing store. Inside, you can see several circular racks filled with regular stuff, like shirts, pants, skirts, and the like. The back wall has packages of socks, hosiery, and other minor, but essential, items, and the bottom of that wall is lines with shoes of various sorts (mostly for women, you note, but nothing too fancy for either gender). The side wall, however... there's a large display of customized outfits. In fact, you can see everything from a long blue coat that looks thick enough to stop an arrow, to a thin undershirt with a white shawl-looking piece (tastefully torn in places) to... well, you'd be staring for a long time if you took them all in individually. A large sign in the middle proudly states that custom orders are available, and to talk to the worker at the counter.

Speaking of... the counter worker is an older student, one you've noticed in passing as one of the NOT class who was weeded out. He gives you a small smile and says "Welcome, can I help you with anything?"

You pause, considering options.

Obviously, the more expensive ones are very high quality material, though the workmanship on all of them is superb. The boss man makes all of these himself. Those are his designs up there.

You nod nonchalantly, but you're mentally blown back. they START at 750? You hope Death City has a different currency than your home town because that sounds like a lot. "How much to design a custom one?"

The clerk sighs dramatically. "Honestly, it depends entirely on you, but I've yet to see a finished design come in under 1000." He grins at you. "That's what the boss man says every time he's asked that.

Hm. "You wouldn't happen to need another worker here, would you? Maybe there's an employee discount?"

The clerk looks up and sighs, a real one this time. "If only. A lot of the work is at cost, with just enough over to make it worth the time. Boss does this as a passion, so he mostly just needs to eat and pay me. However..." He looks at you again. "If you're in the EAT program, you'll only have time for part-time anyways. I was there for that fight in class. I doubt you're NOT like me."

You chuckle a little and look at the floor. Still not used to praise.

"I'll run it by the boss. Maybe check back in a day or two and he'll be here, or at least I can set up an interview."

You nod. "Thanks, that'd be great. I'm still feeling out what's around here, but I'll probably need a source of cash until I start missions..."

The clerk smiles again. "You'll be a while on that, but I wouldn't be surprised if you're the first out of your class to be approved. Is there anything else?"

"No, that'll be all. I'm exhausted."

You leave the store, ideas for an outfit swirling in your head. You'll have something cohesive next time you come back here, you're sure.

The walk back up the steps is agonizing, but you somehow manage. Staying in the city any longer would force you to skip dinner, and you aren't going to risk that, with how tired you are. Gotta feed the engine that makes you go.

You get to the cafeteria as it begins to clear out the initial food rush. You look around... Kia isn't here (possibly asleep already), and neither is Grayson. Robert lazily chews on some glazed carrots in the corner. Also... you can see Shinobu sitting with Asuka. They aren't talking, but they're nearly done eating.

You also note that Tiffany Lange, the odd brunette bombshell that paralyzed Grayson in the first spar is in the food line. She still has that weird half-smile on her face.

Also, there's something behind the carefully measured interest in her voice... something that carries the barest hint of danger, but only slightly. You think for a bit as you both grab your food, then respond...
