The beast’s roar, even from this distance, is deafening. You cannot see the creature, but even so, your mind does you no favors.

You’d seen a representation in ink, all those months ago, when Naruto and Sai fought in the previous exams- and seeing how large Shukaku had been, you cannot help but think the real thing will put the artist’s rendition to shame.

Kushina, for her part, says nothing- the red-headed shinobi’s stoicism is impressive, considering what she means to do.
The two of you continue to walk, slowly, towards Konoha- the safe house had been nestled in one of the village’s outlying woodlands. Far enough away to be safe in the event of an attack; and far enough away to make the trek back tedious for two wounded shinobi.

Eventually, the trees thin, and after cresting a small hill, the flaming remains of Konoha fill your vision. A massive fox, with nine distinct tails, lets out a fearsome roar while making a swing at something too small to distinguish; Kushina stops dead, her pale face a mixture of sadness and determination.

“There. We’re almost there, Tsuki.” She says through unsteady breaths. “I should be able to seal him by myself, but- my apologies if I ask you to distract him momentarily. You’ve been through far too much tonight.”

“Well- I’ve seen almost everything.” He says, tapping his temple. “My Byakugan are much more developed than Hinata’s are. From atop the hospital I was able to see most of the rest of the finals- including your matches.”

His smile turns into a slight grimace.

“When did you get so strong? Those abilities are something else- and then you beat poor Sai into the ground without even using them.”

You gather a bit more information from Neji while you help Kushina stand. Apparently Minato and the others were trying to fight the Nine-Tails, but Minato was taken out of the fight early- he just disappeared while fighting one of the Akatsuki- though the man disappeared with him.

The fight against the Nine-Tails took a turn for the worse after he left- that was when he decided to leave. He offers to carry Kushina, as it will speed up your travel considerably.

She acquiesces, although it’s obvious she would rather walk under her own power- but regardless of her feelings, she doesn’t object.
The three of you make your way towards the towering fox- while Neji calls out the locations of nearby Shinobi.

“Naruto and his sister are to the north- they aren’t moving, though. Either she’s hurt, or otherwise incapacitated. Seems Naruto isn’t willing to leave her side.” He announces.

“Hinata and your sensei Itachi are nearby as well- over to the west. Kakashi-sensei is heading east, away from the beast, but I’m not sure what he’s up to.”

“Nori always had nightmares about Kurama- ever since she was little. We never were sure why- unless he affected her somehow when I was pregnant. She’s probably terrified right now…” Kushina says, voice heavy.

Hmm. It occurs to me that Naruto was able to forcibly take Kurama's chakra. It wasn't easy, and he was paying for it, but he could.

So in theory Tsuki might be able to do the same, except with Moon Mom's help maybe either have better control of the power, or possibly funnel the energy to Kaguya. If we go that route.

Still leery of trying because we need to make the roll to become jinchuuriki, we'd probably be opposed to the rest of the jinchuuriki, AND if Kaguya decides she needs to pull the nine-tails out of us we will probably die...but it may not inherently bring us into conflict with Kaguya.

I don't think Wargle actually confirmed what release counters Stellar yet, did he?

You tell Neji and Kushina to head towards Naruto and Nori- you choose to bank eastward around Kurama to do so, hoping to avoid contact with the beast for now.

As the prospect of seeing her children, Kushina’s face seems to regain some color.

Sneaking around Kurama is easier than expected- the Fox seems wholly preoccupied with wanton destruction, and whatever shinobi dare to challenge it. Within a few minutes, you are able to find the building the Uzumaki children are holding up in.

When you enter the half-folded structure, the sight is quite pitiful- Nori is on the ground crying, curled up into a ball. Naruto is trying to calm her down- but it doesn’t seem to be working.

“Naruto, that’s enough. I’ll take care of her.” Kushina says, as Neji sets her down.

“Eh? Mom? What are you doing here? Is that Tsuki and Neji too?” Naruto says, surprised.
“Yes, they’re helping me for right now- please, let me help your sister.” Kushina explains.

“Right, ok. Just… take it easy mom, alright?” Naruto concedes.

“I’ll be alright, Naruto. Please, don’t worry.” She sighs.

Naruto walks over towards Neji and yourself, while Kushina takes a seat next to her crying daughter, pulling her into a hug.

She seems to be singing something to her, but you can’t quite make it out.

As Kushina comforts her daughter, you take the time to explain her plan to seal the Nine-Tails within herself, and perish with it inside of her, sealing it away for a period of time while the village recovers.

His expression hardens at the explanation, but he’s doesn’t openly object like Nori might- instead, he wordlessly walks over to where his mother and sister are sitting, and sits down beside them.

Once Kushina finishes her song, and Nori appears to have calmed down, Naruto makes his intention clear.

“I’ll be the new Seal for the Nine-Tails, Mom. You don’t have to do this- the three of us need you.” He declares without a second thought.

“No.” Kushina responds.

“Eh?! Why not! We just have to be Uzumaki, right? I’m plenty strong enough!” Naruto protests.

“He’s much too strong right now- Kurama is the strongest of his kin. At his full strength, even an Uzumaki would be overwhelmed. When he was transferred to me, we had a special ritual prepared to weaken him ahead of time- and we don’t have the time or resources to prepare it now. If you’re intent on it, be prepared to seal him when he resurfaces.” Kushina explains.

“Besides, even if I did not reseal Kurama within myself, I fear it’s much too late. I’m likely only alive right now because of my Uzumaki blood. Let me do our village this last service, Naruto. Please.”

The blonde boy’s eyes begin to well slightly- although you can’t really blame him.

“No- there has to be another way! I can handle it- and we can heal you! Grandpa Jiraiya always talks about that girlfriend of his- the lady who can heal anything! She should be able to help you!” Naruto begs.
