--------------------------------------------------------------------

The sound of weapons being checked by their owners filled the small archives room that you and the rest of your unit were occupying.

It had been roughly half an hour since you had entered the Märchenland facility, the only place in the entire German Reich where the dreaded Panzerhund was produced. You had made the jump from your stricken transport around 2 hours before then, you had pushed your way through the countryside for a while as you searched for your unit.

When you found them, they were in possession of a very valuable asset, in their possession was Klara Strasse, Miss Strasse being directly related General Strasse made her an extremely valuable asset to the entire strike force. She could have been used to negotiate a way out for your battalion, a way to simply abandon this suicide mission.

Too bad that it was not meant to be, her presence with your unit right now was unplanned, but then again, you weren't about to leave her with the guys guarding the gate. Her going hysterical at the prospect of being separated from you.

You still have many questions about her, but you do understand why she was so attached to you. She was attached to you as you were one of the few people who didn't seem to want to execute her on the spot. Though you could probably chalk it up to other things too.

In any case, your current situation was fairly simple. You were inside the restricted area of the Märchenland facility, having crawled through the vents to get around an armoured door that was protected by a pair of machine guns.

You had only been in this section for a few minutes, but you already hated the damn place. And not just because the place was guarded by the most heavily armoured SS soldiers you had ever seen.

And no, it wasn't because of that one hallucination either.

It was just how the entire place felt, the entire place felt far too different to the rest of the base. The other areas of the base were essentially carved out of the mountain, with the bare rock of the mountain being visible everywhere from the floor to the ceiling. Meanwhile here the walls, the floor and the ceiling were smooth, clean and well kept. It felt too clean.

You were just too happy to cause destruction here, wrecking this place and everything in it would be slightly therapeutic.

"Hey Eugen, can you check through the archives for important documents?" Sergeant Gilmore as you began to walk over to the corpses of the slain SS soldiers.

"I was planning on searching the bodies sergeant, can't somebody else look through the documents?" You suggested, before then looking over at Strasse, who was sitting on a box, making a point to look anywhere but where the corpses lay. "Maybe you could put Strasse on the task?"

Gilmore seemed to consider this for a couple of seconds, before then turning to Romeo. "Romeo, remove those bindings from Strasse's hands. Then watch her while she looks through the notes?"

"So we're just going to let that fucking Nazi walk around with free hands? What next are you gonna give her a gun so she can shoot us in the backs?" Guzman bitched as Romeo began to carefully cut the tape away from Strasse's right hand.

"She's the only other person who can read German. So deal with it." Gilmore ended the conversation right there, earning him an angry glare from Guzman.

You began by patting down the bodies of the SS soldiers. Their armour wasn't anything you had seen before, but it wasn't that you envied them. The armour was seemly made out of a light steel, with armoured chest guards, shoulder plates and leg armour. They also wore armoured face-plates which were welded to their helmets. You faintly remember one of the guys in your last unit testing a similar suit, he constantly complained about how heavy it was, but in the end it saved his life on the rare occasions where someone actually hit him.

The armoured plates themselves were padded on the inside with a foam of some kind, probably to reduce the force of impacts. You noticed that the one that Logan had stabbed was wearing armour which was scratched in numerous places, with a large scar carved through the metal across the torso. upon further inspection, the scar actually pierced into the armour and had been patched with another armour plate on the inside. This didn't fill you with hope, what the hell could cause such damage?

Either way, an inspection of the first guy netted some more ammo for the rifle that him and his comrade carried. He also carried a pair of grenades and what looked like some kind or spear-pistol with 4 spears. The spears the pistol looked like they had been inscribed with words in some foreign language.

The second soldier wore the same uniform without the leg guards, he carried the same number of magazines and a pair of grenades. Aside from that, he also carried a opened letter and a second folded piece of paper.

You pocketed the piece of paper before calling out to your unit that there were spare weapons. You then opened up the letter and began to read, but you stopped at the third line, having read enough. The letter had been from the soldier's wife back in Berlin, wishing him well. You stopped reading because you didn't need another reminder of the human cost of what your job entailed.

Then again, did SS soldiers really count as humans? After all, they did massacre civilians for seemingly no reason.

"Hey Strasse, have you found anything?" You asked as Walker and Logan descended on the corpses, looting them of their spare weapons.

"Y-Yes, I've found a partial map of the area. Though from the looks of it, this room was probably used to store financial reports and equipment manifests." Strasse explained, before then slowly turning to face you, aware that she was on thin ice with at least one member of the unit. She then handed the map over to you.

She wasn't kidding when she said that it was incomplete. While the map labelled out a number of rooms, it showed you that the only other rooms on this level were either archives, radio communications rooms, sleeping quarters and a mess hall. It also named this level as "Alfa" level. However, it showed you barely anything relating to other sections of the facility, 3 areas were seemingly sectioned away. Those areas were the "Occult Studies", "Bio-mechanical Studies" and the stairwell to "Beta" level. All 3 were marked off by a thick black line and and arrow pointing to their names. From the map, the "Occult Studies" and "Bio-mechanical Studies" diverged at a T-junction.

"Have you found anything else?" You asked curiously, before then glancing up at Strasse.

"Nien, that was everything I've found thus-far... I could probably find some more information if you gave me some more time." Strasse shook her head head as she informed you of her lack of findings.

"We're wasting time here anyway. We ought to get going." Romeo piped up, earning him a nodd from Guzman and Walker.

"I agree, every second we waste here is another second lost. We have a job to do after all." Guzman said as he stood up and flicked the safety off his M-1 Garand.

"There is still more to find out. We can't just go running off if there if there is important information here." Gilmore said calmly, Hartman nodded in agreement while Logan spoke up as he rooted through the leg armour of one of the SS soldiers.

"He's got a point you know, any more information could be a weapon for us." He said as he pulled a knife off the ankle of one of the SS soldiers, a silver swastika attached to the base of the weapon.

The information here could be vital. And we'll get through the archives faster now that we're able to search alongside Strasse. However, we don't need the entire unit here with us while we search.

Send the majority of the men up to clear out the hallways ahead - they oughtn't to need every last men to eliminate a few guards - while we spend ten minutes searching. If they leave signs of which way they proceed (scratching symbols into the walls with a knife or similar), we can link up with them after; we can move a lot faster than they can, knowing that the route ahead will be clear.

"I agree with Sergeant Gimore. There's no reason for us to charge in with no information. I'll help Strasse with getting the info." You spoke up, before then turning and heading towards one of the tables covered in assorted papers.

"You know that we don't have all day, sooner or later, Nazi reinforcements will smash through the front gate and we'll be fucked because ya'll decided to fuck about with some useless fucking files." Guzman bitched as he made for the door.

"Hold it right there private." Gilmore ordered, his voice stern. "I will not allow you to compromise this fucking mission."

"I'm just standing by the door while our resident Nazis look for shit that isn't there." Guzman replied, before leaning on the door.

Gilmore then turned to look at you and Strasse. "Eugen, Strasse, you have 5 minutes to look for any information before we get moving."

"Understood." You replied simply, before then beginning to look at each file and note on the table, only looking at the title on each note before then moving onto the next notice.

It took you only 3 minutes to find 3 files that were at least moderately interesting. A quick skim-read netted you a brief understanding of each.

The first was a report detailing the "usefulness" of certain dog breeds for panzerhund production. The Border Collies that were used in the original panzerhunds were beginning to grow scarce as production ramped up, leading for other breeds to be considered. Out of the breeds selected, the German Shepherd and Hungarian Vizsla were prioritised for "harvesting" due to their traits and availability, however it was noted that the Vizslas would have to be specially trained.

The second one detailed how the "Occult Section" was requesting healthier test subjects, the ones that they had been appropriating from "concentration camps". Apparently the current subject either died during testing, or "expired" too quickly. As such, healthier subjects were required.

The final report was a report that the request from the "Occult Section" for the loan of a "Panzer Soldat" had been denied by General Strasse. The reasoning cited being that the "Panzer Soldat" project was still not out of testing, as such a unit wouldn't be loaned.

Aside from that however, you found nothing but supply requests and monthly resource expenditures. Nothing much more of value.

As you made to grab another file, a low rumble rolled through the base, shaking an empty bottle off the table.

"Did you just-" Logan began, before Gilmore spoke up.

"The assault's begun, we're out of time!" He then grabbed his Sten Gun off one of the tables.

"I fucking told you!" Guzman spoke up, before then making to open the door.

"Eugen, you saw that damn map. Where should we head?" Gilmore asked as he cocked his sub machine gun, cambering a round.

"We should head to the Bio-mechanical studies section. All Panzerhunds apparently start out production there, so we should prioritise it for that alone." You reported as you unslung your Colt Monitor, before you then gestured to Strasse. "Should I keep her with me?"

Gilmore shook his head. "No, we need you and your rifle up front. Romeo can watch her."

With that, Guzman opened the door and left, Walker following close behind him. Logan and Heartbern following after them with Gilmore making for the door after them.

You gave Strasse one last look, before then moving for the door. You exited the door to find that Guzman and Walker were already at the intersection, making to look for enemies.

"Where are we heading Eugen?" Gilmore asked as you brought your rifle up to your shoulder.

"Forward, then take a right at the end of the hall." You announced, before then moving forward with your rifle raised. The unit quickly falling onto lockstep behind you with Logan just behind you. You lead the unit down the hall and to the right, before then taking the second left in the next corridor.

As you took the left turn, you stopped and raised your weapon at the figure in the intersection in front of you.

The figure in front of you was the woman you had seen before, still clad in her beautiful white dress. She gazed upon you with a smile that reached her beautiful, honey-gold eyes, before she then turned away and walked along the corridor to the left of her.

"Hey Berkhard, you doing good? You kinda zoned out for a bit." Logan asked sheepishly as he shook you gently. You blinked and shook your head.

"It... It's nothing. Let's just get going." You replied as you continued on towards the intersection, your throat feeling a little dryer than before.

As soon as you reached the intersection you realised a slight flaw in your plan. While both doors to the two sections were right there, and they were clearly labelled. The problem however lay in that both doors were locked shut by a pair of heavy blast doors. A pair of keycard readers were affixed to the walls next to the doors.

"Shit, well this makes things a bit harder." Gilmore began as he walked over to one of the keycard readers.

"No shit." Guzman replied, before then reaching for his demolition charge. "Though I've got a way in right here."

"No, that will get everyone in the entire base on our ass." Gilmore denied Guzman. "There is probably a keycard in one of the rooms-"

"Searching all these rooms will take too long, though I bet that someone down by the entrance has a keycard that we can plunder off them." Logan butted in as he turned back towards the way you came.

"That will cause just as much problems as blowing the door, if we are to do this right, we need to be sneaky." Gilmore denied, only for Romeo to speak up.

"The entrance it is then, though we will have to be sneaky on the way there." You announced, before then slinging your rifle over your shoulder and pulling your pistol. "Keep behind me and keep quiet until I give the signal. We need to do this stealthily."

"And what's the signal?" Logan asked as you took point again.

"It's when I yell at you to shoot them." You replied simply as you began walking towards the entrance.

Your journey over towards the entrance was slightly slower than the trip to the door, but it was certainly quieter. You arrived at the intersection where the guards had once been and took a left, heading towards the stairs that took you down.

As you reached the bottom of the stairs, you found that both flights of stairs arrived at the same level, but you could also hear a pair of soldiers talking in muffled German.

"Did you hear? General Strasse's reinforcements have arrived to purge these allied dogs." One of the soldiers announced, to a small, muffled cheer.

"That's great, though I do feel slightly sorry for them, they are at General Strasse's and Colonel Strasse's mercy, and he didn't look too happy when he left." Another one replied as you arrived at intersection and gestured for some of your unit to head over to the other set of stairs.

"What did they even do to make the pair of them so angry? They have never seemed so angry, even after the arguments that they occasionally have..." The first soldier asked, clearly sounding worried.

"I do not know for sure, but according to Adolf down in communications, apparently it was something involving Corporal Strasse, they are both very protective of her. The other one reported to his comrade as the other section of the unit arrived at the base of the other stairs undetected.

With one swift and silent motion, you returned your pistol to it's holster and pulled a stick-grenade from your belt, before nodding at your comrades across the hall to do the same. You also nodded at Logan to do the same while Walker took your position with his shotgun.

You took the grenade in your right hand and quickly unscrewed the protective cap on the base, exposing the pull cord that armed the grenade. You held the small, porcelain ball in your left hand as you looked over at your comrades on the other side, and checked to see if they were ready to throw. Sure enough, Guzman and Heartbern standing with grenades in hand, fingers around the pins.

In one fluid motion, you pulled the cord and stepped out from around the corner, with one simple, under-hand throw you tossed the grenade at the gaggle of SS soldiers. And with your grenade sent, joined in the air by 3 of it's brothers, you and the rest of the grenade throwers stepped back into cover.

The sound of the grenades clattering along the ground stopped all talk from the SS soldiers, one of them yelled in alarm, but his scream wouldn't save many of them as all 4 grenades went off, killing or wounding all of the SS soldiers there.

You had pulled your weapon off your shoulder by the time the grenades went off. And with practised ease, you popped out from around the corner, partially shielding yourself with Walker, who had stepped out with you.

The corpses of the dead SS soldiers littered the area, limbs, guts and gore of all kind was splattered everywhere. From what you could tell, the grenades had landed either behind a set of sandbags, or between said sandbags and the bunker's armoured door and gun emplacements.

However, a number of SS soldiers survived the blasts. Those that could still reach for something were quickly dispatched by bursts of rifle-fire. Many were executed before they could turn their weapons towards you, others were killed before they could even reach their weapons.

There were 3 corpses of note. That of an officer, a medic and a larger fellow. Though any corpse could have a keycard on it.

You quickly made your way over to the corpse of the officer and knelt down beside it. The officer had the misfortune to be standing too close to one of the grenades, and had lost a leg in the blast. Additionally, his face, and most of his body had been shredded by shrapnel. You stopped to look over your shoulder at what your unit was doing.

Most of your comrades were turning away from the gory scene, instead moving to guard positions to cover the unit as you and Logan searched the corpses. Logan stood stock upright as he surveyed the scene with a blank expression. It took you a couple of tries, but eventually he hard you calling out to him to check the medic's body. When he finally snapped to, he moved with purpose as he descended on the medic's body.

Your search of the officer's corpse turned up a Walther PP, a pair of magazines and a rune inscribed knife. However, your check of his pockets revealed nothing.

"Logan, does the medic have anything?" You asked as you began to check the lining of the officer's clothes, hoping that he was storing the keycard in an unorthodox location.

"Not yet." Logan replied quietly, the ghost of shock making his words quiver slightly.

"Well keep looking, hopefully they have-" As you said this, you found a keycard, hidden inside the officer's peeked cap. "Scratch that, I have it."

"Same here, though I have no idea which section this one is for..." Logan replied as he made his way over to you and handed you his card.

The officer had been carrying the card to enter the Occult Studies section, meanwhile the medic had been carrying a keycard to enter the Bio-mechanics section.

"We have both keycards. Looks like we have free-reign on where to attack now." You announced, to a small cheer from your comrades.

"That's awesome, now we can blow thi-" Heartbern began, only to be cut off by a rifle-crack, and his brains being blown across the wall he was just standing beside. Gunfire immediately erupted as SS soldiers began to fire on your unit from further up the production line.

You quickly grabbed Logan and dived behind one of the low sandbag walls that the SS defenders had set up, landing in a wet puddle of something that you didn't want to think about.

You didn't wait for the SS attackers to dial in your position, instead you quickly pointed your automatic rifle at the incoming squad and pulled down the trigger. The weapon bucked wildly in your hands as you sprayed automatic fire towards the enemy. The burst gave Logan time to get up and sprint towards the stairs, spraying fire from his Thompson as he ran.

You rolled back into cover as your magazine ran dry, with a quick flick the magazine fell out of it's receiver, leaving the space open for fresh magazine. As soon as the fresh magazine was in position, you peeked over the sandbags.

Your unit had taken positions up by the stairs, with Gilmore waving at you to make a break over to them. Logan and Walker were peeking around the corners and were spraying fire at the SS unit down the hall. Said SS unit was slowly pushing up with armoured shields.

You quickly raised your rifle and fired a pair of bursts at the SS shield-bearers, aiming for their feet and where you assumed their heads were. The first few bursts did nothing, but the third burst hit one of the soldiers in the feet. Causing him to stop any yell out in agony as the 30.06 rounds shredded one of his feet.

You took this time to quickly get up and sprint towards the stairs, where your unit waited. You kept your finger firmly pressing down on the trigger as you sprayed at the SS soldiers, aiming to simply keep them from shooting at you as you made your way to safety.

As soon as you reached the stairs, your unit fell back with you taking up the rear. The sound of boots rapidly hitting the metal-grated stairs was only overpowered by a yell form one of the SS soldiers, said soldier ordering his comrades after you.

You only stopped to toss a grenade down the stairs, the action itself being almost subconsious as you tossed the grenade behind you. The explosive went off as you made your way behind your unit at a dead sprint.

As soon as you reached the first turn, the SS soldiers managed to finally reach the top of the stairs. The lead enemy soldier fired a burst at you as you turned the corner, but the shots missed you by a good few feet.

At the next intersection, the left turn towards where the different sections diverged was where Logan, Walker and Guzman had set up, their rifles raised at the corner you had just rounded.

"Eugen, take the keycard, get that damn door open!" Logan barked at you as you arrived at the corner he had set up at. He quickly thrust the keycard into your hand and pushed you towards the T-junction where Gilmore and Romeo waited with Strasse.

"Good to see that you made it, now get one of these damn doors open. I don't care which!" Gilmore barked at you as you pulled the other keycard out of your pocket.

You quickly walked over to the large blast door to the occult studies section and fed the keycard into the reader affixed to the wall next to the door. the reader flashed orange for a couple of second, before lighting up green. The sound of pressure-seals being released and large, metal latches being undone slowly filled the air as the large, metal door began to open up. However, as the door began to open, gunfire erupted from the corner where Logan was set up. You quickly turned on your heel and bolted over to where your comrades were set up, firing wildly around the corner.

The view from the corner was one of a warzone. A pair of SS soldiers had rounded the corner, only to have been gunned down brutally, one missing most of his face from a direct hit from a shotgun. Logan and Guzman had then pushed up to the next corner, while Walker reloaded.

At the next corner, Logan and Guzman were firing down the corridor. Logan fired in short, controlled bursts. Meanwhile, Guzman took careful, well aimed shots with his M-1 Garand at any soldier that poked their heads out of cover.

You joined the pair and began to unload down the hallway, sending streams of hot lead towards the enemy. Your rifle kicked like a mule, but hit like a truck. One SS soldier nearly had his head ripped off when you sent a burst into his neck. The gory exit wound spraying crimson blood everywhere as the arteries in his neck were severed.

As you made to reload however, an SS soldier stepped out of cover, with a grenade in hand and ready to throw. However, the booming report of Guzman's rifle marked the end to that attempt as the soldier's arm was blown off at the shoulder. The SS soldier screamed, but his screams dies as his grenade went off, it's fuse having already been primed. The blast sending his cadaver towards you.

The broken body landed halfway down the hallway in a shower of gore as his remains were perforated by shrapnel from his own grenade.

A loud burst of automatic fire snapped your attention to the rear. "DOOR'S OPEN, GET BACK HERE!" Gilmore barked at you and your comrades as you stood up form your position, Guzman priming a grenade off his belt and throwing down the corridor with the arm of an expert baseball player.

Well, you assumed that it was the arm of an expert baseball player, you had only ever seen one game in your life.

You and your squadmates sprinted back to the door to the occult section as the grenade went off with a dull thump. You were immediately greeted by corpses. Behind the door lay a rather crude defensive line of tables, each one perforated by bullet holes. The few soldiers that were behind the barricade had been riddled by fire.

"WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR, AN INVITATION? GET IN HER AND GET THE DOOR!" Gilmore yelled at you as the sound of boots grew closer.

>Shut the door the normal way, it's longer but it should be a stronger seal.
>Pull the "emergency lock down" lever, hopefully it will lock down the door quicker.

You quickly grabbed the keycard from the reader on the opposite side of the door and quickly stepped inside as the sound of boots grew closer. With a simple push and a few button presses, the door began to slowly close as blast shields closed in from the ceiling and the floor. Both thick steel panel slowly edged closer and closer as the SS squad rounded the corner.

Logan waited for a couple of seconds, before then poking his Thompson out from between the closing doors and sprayed down the hallway, emptying one of his drum magazines in a long stream of lead. As soon as the magazine ran dry, Logan pulled his gun back inside the room as the doors began to move dangerously close to his arms. However, as the door was about to close fully, Gilmore brushed past you and smacked what looked like a stick-grenade onto the keycard reader, the explosive staying in place as the door slammed shut with a hearty crunch.

As soon as the first set of blast doors locked shut, another set began to slowly push out from the walls. Adding another level of protection to the doorway as the dull thud of the grenade's detonation wrung out, marking the destruction of the access panel on the other side of the door.

"There, that should hold them for a while." Gilmore sighed as he ejected the magazine from his Sten gun and slammed in a fresh magazine.

"So, what's the plan now?" Walker asked as he slung his shotgun over his shoulder and picked up a rifle from one of the dead soldiers.

"Same as before, we'll push in and find whatever the most valuable thing in here, and we'll destroy it." Gilmore replied, before then turning to you. "Eugen, your're on point, you're the only person here who knows German and that BAR of yours is the biggest gun we have."

You simply nodded and made your way forward with your rifle raised to your shoulder. It didn't take you much to realise that the small size of the corridors of this section of the bunker didn't really impact the ergonomics of the facility. The floor was actually painted with a number of different coloured lines, most likely indicating the paths to different areas of the bunker.

"Spread out in pairs, search the nearby rooms for information." You instructed to the unit, before rounding on one of the doors and giving it a hearty kick open.

Unfortunately however, the room was a supply closet. No secret documents in there. However the next room you broke into was a security room, and it gave you all the information you needed and more.

As soon as the door was kicked flat to the ground, you pushed in with your rifle raised. The room itself was empty and small, but the desk in the centre of the room was stacked with files and had a box half-full of danish pastries. In the corner sat a row of weapons lockers, each one opened and emptied of everything bar an MP-40 and some magazines for it. On the table however, sat an opened note that told you everything you needed to know about the lines.

The red line lead to the test subject storage cells and surgical bay. Any and all prisoners used in experiments were stored there. If you had to guess, then any prisoners would be willing to help you with your mission.

The blue line lead to the command and logistical sectors, while you reasoned that a lot of information relating to current projects would be stored there, you didn't think that there would be anything else.

The green line lead towards housing and accommodation. According to the note, it also contained a number of hold-out points for the bunker's occupants in case of an attack. If you had to guess, then anyone who worked here would have taken refuge there, and you could probably get the information from them.

As you looked at the danish pastries, you began to feel a bit hungry. You hadn't eaten anything since before you boarded the transport to embark upon this suicide mission. And quite frankly, you last meal before this operation had been terrible.

In constant sync with you mood, you stomach grumbled, as if it was trying to tell you to give into your cravings and indulge yourself.

With a simple shrug, you reached over to the paper cake box and picked it up with your left hand as you slung your rifle over your shoulder. And with your now empty right hand, you picked up one of the pastries and took a bite out of it. The taste of the moist and sweet pastry was just too tasty for you to resist, and you quickly devoured your pastry.

As you made to take another one, you stopped. Not because you were full, but because there was enough for everyone to have at least one. You briefly considered simply scoffing all of them, but you decided against it, instead choosing to offer them out to your comrades.

"Hey Eugen, you found anything in there?" Gilmore asked as he stepped into the room, his weapon dangling by it's sling.

"Indeed sergeant." You replied, before then holding the box out to him. "Danish pastries, do you want one?"

Gilmore seemed to stop for a second, before then reaching over and taking one of the pastries. "Indeed I shall. Though I do hope that you've found more than those?"

"Of course sir, I have found information on where those coloured lines lead." You replied as you made your way out of the door, headed into the corridor where your unit were breaking down doors. "Anybody want some Danish Pastries?"

As soon as you offered food, you unit dropped what they were doing and followed you back int the security room. You handed the pastries out to everyone as they entered. Before then briefing them on your findings.

"According to the not I found, the red line leads to the test subject storage cells and surgical areas. The blue lines lead to the bunker command areas and the green lines lead towards accommodation." You began as everyone tucked into their food. "I believe that our best bet is to head to the cells first and see if we can find anyone there. I'm sure that anybody in those cells would be all too happy to fight alongside us."

"Why not hit up the command areas? There's got to be some juicy files there that we can destroy." Logan suggested as he finished off his pastry in record time.

"Those areas will either be heavily defended, or there won't be any officers there to kill. Besides, I overheard a pair of the guards saying that the two major officers here have already left." You replied calmly as you tried to search for a coffee machine amongst the stacks of files.

"Well that's too bad, though the offices might have information on key artefacts or test subjects. It might not be a bad idea to hit that are once we've dealt with the cells." Gilmore replied calmly as he wiped off his hands with a napkin that he had found somewhere. "Besides, gathering artefacts is what these occult groups do right?"

"N-Not really... the collect artefacts so they can study them to try and find the source of their power." Strasse spoke up as she nibbled on her pastry, taking far more time to savoir the sugary treat.

"And who the fuck died and made you the chief expert on this shit?" Guzman growled at Strasse, causing the woman to shrink back a bit.

"Calm down herr Guzman. Her older sister is the head of the Occult Studies division, I'm sure that it came up in conversation at some point." You replied to Guzman as you found the coffee machine, sans any coffee.

Guzman was quiet at that, and that gave Gilmore the opening he needed to change the subject. "Well, it seems that we have our next location. Eugen, take point and lead us to the cells."

You nodded in response, and lead the group towards the cell block, taking special care at every turn to make sure that you weren't snuck up on. You simply couldn't shake the feeling that someone was watching you...

...well, someone other than Strasse an any case.

Either way, you found your way to the cell block pretty easily, the red line having separated from the others pretty early on. However, as you made your way closer and closer, the feeling of being watched grew greater and greater.

As you approached the final corner before the heavy double doors that opened up onto the cells, Gilmore stopped you.

"Hold up. Can any of you hear that?" He asked with a slightly worried voice.

"Can I-" Logan began, only for Gilmore to interrupt him.

"Shut up, listen...." He ordered, and as the unit fell quiet and still, you began to hear it.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G7pwSiU2diU&spfreload=10

Humming, it was faint yes, but it was still unmistakably feminine. The unit seemed to entirely tense up at the humming, checking every corner and vent grate where someone could be hiding.

"The fuck is that?" Guzman growled out his question as quickly as possible, the mysterious humming setting him on edge.

"I don't fucking know." Logan replied, before then asking. "Does anybody else feel like they're being watched?"

"Well, I did but I just chalked it up to Strasse." You replied as you peeked around the corner, finding the doors locked, but undefended.

"She hasn't been watching you though." Romeo replied with a slightly startled voice. "She's kept her eyes on the floor the entire time."

"Steady men, it's probably just being played over the radio to mess with us." Gilmore tried to calm the unit, only for Guzman to speak up.

"Yeah, It's fucking working. I'm not down with going any further." He replied in a shaky tone, you could hear the wood of his rifle's furniture.

"Strasse... do you have any idea on what that could be?" You asked Strasse tentatively as you kept your rifle trained on the doors.

"I have no idea, I've never been here before!" Strasse wailed, clearly distressed at the ethereal humming.

"Well, has it ever come up in conversation with your sister? Hell, has anything occult in nature come up?" You pressed with a slightly irritated tone.

"Nien. S-She never talked about her work. The most she ever mentioned was how the Japanese might be onto something... But I don't know what that could mean." Strasse explained an as calm of a tone as possible, which suffice to say was not very calm.

"Well, now that you've indulged yourself with the pointless questions, can we get on with pushing into cell block?" Gilmore asked calmly, his voice now devoid of emotion as he forced himself to be professional.

"No, fuck this, fuck that and fuck everything about that damn cell block." Guzman summed up elequently. "Fuck going in there, let's just hit up the command areas."

"We could push on the accomidation area, maybe someone there knows something?" Logan presented calmly, sounding more relaxed than anyone else in the unit.

"Or we could just not come back here, that would be great..." Guzman suggested, his tone making it seem like he thought very highly of his own plan.

You hadn't really been focusing on them however, you had been focusing more on the humming. The closer you listened, the calmer you felt. The safer you felt. Maybe the sergeant was right, there was probably nothing through those doors other than a few cells. The people in there would need your help after all.

"For once Guzman, I actually agree with you..." You began as you tore your eyes away from the doorway and made your way back the way you came. "...we should be leaving, preferably towards the accommodation wing."

"Aye-fuckin-men to that!" Guzman replied, before quickly making for the door, opening it to show the empty corridor beyond. Walker and Romeo quickly filing in behind their spooked comrade.

"Figures, someone starts humming and suddenly the group of veteran soldiers shits themselves and bolts." Gilmore tutted as Logan lead Strasse out, you and Gilmore following close behind. "Chances are that the guys working here will confirm that there is nothing going on and it's just you all hearing things."

"Maybe sir, but the only way we will know for sure is if we find someone working here." You replied as Logan, Strasse and Gilmore made their way through the double doors. Before you made your way through, you stopped and turned around as the feeling of someone watching you became unbearable.

You turned and found the hallway empty, just the way you had expected.

After a quick sigh and a few calming breaths, you turned and made your way through the double doors, to where your unit was waiting. You then calmly lead them back the way you came, before then leading them down the path marked by the green line.

It wasn't long before you encountered resistance in the shape of a small barricade manned by a pair of SS soldiers. They began firing as you rounded the corner, but they were obviously not used to the recoil of automatic weapons, and their shots went wide. This gave you enough time to dive behind cover as they tried to re-align shots on you.

However, as they focussed on you, they completely missed the next person in line leaning out from around the corner you had just dived away from. And with a pair of short, controlled bursts, the SS soldiers collapsed with ragged holed blown through their unprotected chests.

The next barricade was even easier to overcome than the last one, as it was only manned by janitors, armed with an assortment of rifles and pistols. You and your squad simply breezed through them, felling each aggressor with well-placed bursts of automatic fire.

When you finally reached the accommodation ward, you found yourself in an area nod dissimilar to the cavernous large corridor in the barracks of the main facility. However, this was imply only one section, and part of the area on the first floor had seeminly been apropriated into a canteern of some kind, with benches and tables laid out in preperation for breakfast.

"Keep your weapons ready, we'll breach into each room and actively search for someone who works in the cell block." You instructed as you made your way towards one of the closest doors. Gilmore and Guzman quickly moved further down the hall as you and Walker stacked up on one of the doors. As you made to kick down the door, Walker held up his hand, before then nodding to Logan, who stood at the opposite side of the corridor.

"BREACH IT!" Walker yelled, prompting Logan to run full pelt at the door and simply drop-kick it. The door slammed open with a shower of splinters as Logan dropped on his ass.

As soon as the door was broken open, you leaned inside with your rifle raised, finding yourself looking into a room. The room was furnished with 4 beds and 4 lockers lining the walls. The 4 occupants of the room were huddled in a pile at the back of the room, from what you could see they all wore the white lab coats that scientists typically wore.

"Please Americans, don't kill us! We've done nothi-" One of the scientists began to babble in German, only for you to interrupt him.

"Does anybody here work in the cell blocks?" You asked in your native tongue, taking the scientists by surprise.

"I... Nobody here works in the cell block. I know that Adalbert does frequent there as part of his research. H-He's in room 23." The first scientist explained, you nodded as you took in the information, before then addressing Walker.

"Guard them, if they try anything then kill them." You ordered him, before then repeating it in German for the benefit of the scientists. You walked away as the scientists began to splutter in fear at the order you had just repeated to them. You lead Logan, Gilmore and Guzman towards the door marked out as room 23. Just like before, Guzman took up position and looked down the hallway while you and Gilmore took up positions either side of the door while Logan made ready to drop-kick the door down.

"BREACH IT!" You called out to Logan, who ran sprinting towards the door and drop-kicked the door. The door shattered just like the first, allowing you to lean inside as the door swung open.

The room inside was very similar to the first one, but one of the beds had been replaced by a desk. However, the four occupants were very different. Inside was a man in a white lab coat, he was cradling a woman in green dress and a young girl who looked up at you with wide eyes. If you had to guess they were a family.

The fourth person in the room however was an SS soldier, armed with a Luger pistol. The soldier turned and raised his weapon at you. However, you quickly snap-fired a burst at the soldier. Your shots punching through his armoured helmet and snapping his head back as bone and brains were blown apart by the heavy 30.06 rounds.

As soon as the corpse collapsed to the ground like a sack of heavy things that you throw into a river, the woman began to scream in abject horror. Her eyes darting between you, your smoking rifle and the corpse of the SS soldier. The scientist began trying to calm her down, speaking to her in a low and calming tone.

You lowered your weapon and stepped fully into the room, presenting yourself fully to it's occupants. The woman stared at you in horror, before the man grabbed her head and forced her to look at him as he muttered to her. The child however kept staring at you in shock, having never seen a soldier that was not from the SS.

You carefully made your way forward with your weapon raised, and snatched the dead soldier's weaponry. The soldier's pistol, knife and ammunition finding their ways into your harness. You made sure to be as silent as possible as not to disturb the man and his wife. By the time you arrived back at the entrance, the scientist had managed to calm his wife down, who was now covering the young girl's eyes. The scientist gave his wife some parting words and a parting kiss on the cheek before standing up and facing you.

"Vhat do you vant Amerikaner?" The scientist asked calmly, though his voice was noticeably strained as he forced himself to talk to you, having noticed that the SS soldier had already been looted by you.

"You are Adalbert, correct? You work in the cell block?" You asked in your native German, taking Adalbert and his family by surprise.

"Yes... I am Adalbert." Adalbert replied in German, before looking down at his quivering wife, and then back at you. "If we are to talk about my work then I would prefer to talk about it elsewhere, my family does not need to know what goes on here."

You contemplated this for a couple of seconds, before then nodding and stepping out for the doorway. "The come with us then."

Adalbert followed you out in silence as you motioned for your unit to follow you out. You lead your new prisoner down a few corridors, before then stopping and turning to face him. "Will this suffice?"

"It shall indeed..." Adalbert agreed, before then sighing. "...what do you want to know?"

"Tell me, have you heard of any... supernatural occurrences?" You asked calmly, trying to keep your reasoning vague.

"You are in the Occult Studies ward, the study of the supernatural is our speciality..." The scientist began with a sigh, before continuing. "Honestly, if you have something specific then you might as well cut the bullshit then it will save us all time."

"Specifically, have you heard of anything relating to hallucinations, or ethereal humming?" You continued, still keeping your cards close to your chest.

"Well, I've heard nothing about humming specifically, but I have heard about people hearing and seeing things. Mostly, the hallucinations are limited to people that have suffered the hallucinations... however it's not always the case." Adalbert explained, before then specifying. "Sometimes, the victims see more... supernatural beings. Daemons and assorted spirits to name a few."

"Have you ever had anything come up multiple times?" You asked calmly, before adding. "Including someone seeing the same hallucination multiple times?"

"Well, people usually see the same hallucination multiple times, it's kinda how things go... Though one of the things that comes up multiple times is a rather... odd... hallucination" Adalbert began, before then stopping himself, as if he was trying to stop himself from saying too much.

"Tell me more about these hallucinations..." You asked calmly as you handed your Walther pistol and it's magazines off onto Walker, who stuffed the pistol into his pocket.

"I... I can't tell you, if I do then it could put my entire family at risk." Adalbert replied with a hasty shake of his head.

"Look, me and my unit don't really have much to loose, you on the other hand have your entire family in that room over there..." You paused as you explained, leaving time for the scientist before you to understand what you were implying.

"I... You...." Adalbert began, before then sighing. "And I thought that the propaganda was entirely false."

"Necessity breeds ruthlessness I'm afraid. If there was any other way then I would take it, but if you aren't going to co-operate willingly-." You began to explain, only to be cut off.

"It's fine, I'm not stupid enough not to be able to deduce your situation." Adalbert sighed again and rubbed his eyes, before then explaining.

"Thus-far, we have documented three hallucinations that have been seen by multiple people. The first is described as a woman with pale-white hair crying blood. All those who attempt to approach and console the woman either go insane or die." Adalbert began to explain as you committed his words to memory. "The second hallucination is a blood-red daemon of some kind, the people who see it always go insane, and die horribly a few days or weeks later. They usually die while they are alone or otherwise unwatched, and they are found flayed and dismembered."

"The third hallucination is that the subject usually hallucinates that they are being followed by child-size china dolls. The subjects are not killed, and usually retain their sanity. However they become extremely paranoid." Adalbert stopped, before then continuing. "Those are the only major phenomena that has been observed thus-far."

"Have you heard anything about a hallucination of a woman in a white dress with long black hair and golden eyes?" You specific, deciding to present your information on the spectre, but not where you had obtained the information from.

"Not that I can remember, but I imagine that it it's been encountered then there will be a file on it in the command and logistics area." Adalbert replied as he narrowed his eyes at you. "Have you experienced this hallucination?"

"Do you know anything about protecting yourself from these hallucinations?" You tried to push the conversation along, ignoring the fact that he had just picked up on your experiences.

"I don't really know, I worked in soul metaphysics, not magical warding. You'd have to find one of the scientists." Adalbert replied in a slightly miffed tone, obviously being slightly annoyed at you rebuffing him.

"Well, do you know anyone who works in the warding department, or where the warding department is?" You asked calmly as you fiddled with the forward sight on your rifle, trying to calibrate the sight to effective use.

"What did you do in the soul metaphysics department?" You asked calmly, only for Adalbert to tense up.

"My... my work was related to trying to transfer a soul into some kind of physical containment device, or to try and take the spirit of an object and transfer it into a body." Adalbert explained calmly, but you could tell that he was trying to give you a run about, so you tried a different approach.

"What did you use the test subjects for?" You asked calmly, only for Adalbert to squirm a bit as you pushed further.

"Well, we needed two things. Souls, and bodies to contain the souls that we had harvested from certain objects... The test subjects were how we obtained both..." Adalbert explained squeamishly, knowing all to well that you understood the conclusion you would come too.

"You killed them... You killed those people." You practically spat as your grip on your rifle tightened as you forced yourself not to shoot the occult scientist.

"No, no, no! Well, not really. Swapping around a soul is similar to... swapping the magazines on a rifle. O-Or swapping the engines in a vehicle. The body still lives and functions, but it needs a soul to allow functionality. A rifle cannot fire without ammunition, a jeep cannot run without an engine." Adalbert began to explain quickly as he backed up a few steps, only to walk into Logan.

"Eugen, what's up with him?" Logan asked curiously as the scientist jumped away from Logan.

You stopped for a few seconds as you breathed in, counted to four, and breathed out. You repeated this for nearly a minute, before then ignoring Logan's question and asking another question. "What were the key things that you studied... your projects and the likes."

"We... we worked on a few different projects. Soul transference between people, soul transference between people and objects and the physical manifestation of souls." He explained calmly, before then adding. "We also examined a number of artefacts that recovery teams acquired in the field."

"What can you tell be about the soul transference between people and objects." You asked in a tone that hinted that this was not a question that should be ignored.

"W-Well we usually investigate how to transfer souls between subjects and objects, such as machinery. The original idea being to produce some kind of thinking machine, a semi-artificial intelligence. However, we have not been able to successfully make a thinking machine. Whenever we transfer a soul between a device and a person, the soul is too damaged to be useful." Adalbert began to explain, his voice becoming more level as he explained his work.

"What kind of damage are we talking about?" You asked as you glared at the scientist, your patents with him running out as you talked more about his inhumane studies.

"The subject would loose their mind either during or after the process. If their mind remained intact after the process then they would babble on about being trapped in something cold, able to see hear or otherwise sense anything. Their minds would slowly fall apart after that." Adalbert continued, before then adding. "They did become more susceptible to hallucinations, typically the crying woman and the china dolls. Sometimes even both."

"What objects did you use?" You asked calmly as you distracted yourself by taking apart the Luger you had looted off the SS soldier. Your deft hands quickly taking the weapon down to it's component parts.

"We started off with relatively simple things, such as blades, pikes and other close-quarters weapons. From there we scaled up, moving onto small firearms, machine guns, artillery guns and eventually vehicles. The results started to become more stable. Many of the researchers believed that there is a correlation between the complexity of the device and it's capability to hold a soul." Adalbert's eyes glanced between you and the semi-assembled pistol in your hands as you began to clean carbon buildup from it's internal parts.

"What was the largest thing you have ever transferred a soul into?" You asked calmly as you began to clear out the barrel of the pistol.

"A panzer tank. The subject survived the longest out of all of the previous tests, but the later test ended in an unexpected result... unfortunately, I was not part of the test so I don't know what happened." Adalbert replied with a shrug, before then adding. "If I remember correctly, there was a plan to try an transfer a soul into a Kreigsmarine warship. But I'm not sure about if we were allowed to or not."

"What about the other way around? Do objects, like my rifle, have souls?" You asked calmly as you began to glean out the recoil-locking system on your newly acquired pistol.

"Sort-of... It's very hard to explain without going into complex meta-physics, but everything technically has a soul. Similar to Japanese Shinto worship. However, complexity of the soul is based on the complexity of the object that it's taken from. when we harvested the soul from a sword into a test subject's body, the body shut down. When we did the same with the soul from the panzer tank, the body was able to remain alive and could even understand simple concepts, such as basic maths and shapes. However, it was not capable of anything above that." Adalbert replied, his explanation causing you to stop and stare down at your rifle, slung against your body.

"Don't worry, when we did the same test with the soul from a large firearm, it was not capable of conscious thought. Though you should probably keep good care of it." Adalbert seemed to read your expression.

"One final question on this subject... have you ever tried to... merge... or otherwise join the souls between an object and a person?" You asked as you finished re-assembling your weapon.

"If I remember correctly, the second test with the panzer was to try and do that... but that's all I know about it. Other than the fact that the test subject was a volunteer." Adalbert sighed as he replied, sounding slightly annoyed that he didn't know more.

"Onto a slightly different subject.... what do you know about the physical manifestation of souls?" You asked calmly as you secured the final locking pin on your new Luger, finishing your maintenance of the firearm.

"Physical manifestation of souls is actually rather... tricky. It takes a lot of energy to cause a soul to manifest in any tangible way on this plane of existence for longer than a few minutes. It requires a lot of energy." Adalbert answered calmly as you slotted a magazine into your new pistol.

"What about ghosts? Are they actually anything more than a hallucination?" You asked as you slowly racked back the slide of your pistol.

"Well, yes and no. They do exist as they are at least part of a person's soul, but they also don't exist as they are not a full soul. Ghosts are essentially fragment's of a person's soul that have either been left behind or have been separated for some other reason." Adalbert stopped and recoiled slightly as you released the slide, letting the slide launch forward and chamber a round from the magazine. His entire form seemed to tense up as he stared down at the loaded gun.

"And the hallucinations that multiple people have seen?" You asked as you flicked the safety back on and stowed the Luger into your harness.

"We are not entirely sure on that front, there are theories, but they remain as such without proof." Adalbert replied, seemingly relaxing after you returned the gun to your harness.

"What theory do you support the most then?" You asked as you carefully put you right hand back on the pistol grip of your Monitor. Your finger resting safely on the side of the lower receiver above the trigger.

"Well, as a man of the sciences, I cannot really say that I believe in one theory over the others. However, my co-workers seem to believe that these hallucinations are the results of strong souls projecting themselves onto someone's mind... said souls residing on the proverbial other side." Adalbert explained, putting you slightly on edge.

"I see... are there ways of permanently manifesting a soul in the physical world? Like trapping inside an object of some kind?" You asked as you tried to push the conversation along.

"I... as far as I know, there have only been a few people who have managed to lock their soul inside an object. The first one was Colonel Strasse-" Adalbert began, only to be interrupted by your other prisoner.

"What is this about by sister?" Strasse asked, her eyes locked intently on the scientist before her.

"M-Miss Strasse? I..." Adalbert began, before stuttering, and then turning to face you. "I'm sorry, but I cannot tell you, not while Miss Strasse is here."

"Why not? She's my sister damn it, I DESERVE TO KNOW!" Strasse yelled impatiently, causing Adalbert to shrink back in fear.

"I-I'm sorry Miss Strasse, but I made a promise to your sister that I would not tell you, even under threat of execution. I cannot tell you... I'm sorry, you will have to ask your sister when you see her next." Adalbert began apologising to Strasse, who looked like she was ready to beat him to death.

>Have Strasse taken away while you talk with Adalbert, just because he can't tell Strasse, doesn't mean he can't tell you.

"Logan, Romeo, Guzman. Please escort Miss Strasse out of here. Return back to the accommodation ward and lock the area down. We will return there after we have finished questioning the prisoner." You ordered half your unit to leave as Strasse stared at you, and your denial of the truth she so justly craved.

"Really? Last time I checked, I took orders from Sergeant Gilmore, not you." Guzman growled back at you, obviously not liking how you were ordering him around.

"Firstly private, he outranks you, so he can order you around." Gilmore reminded Guzman, before then turning to look at you. "And secondly, why do you want to send them away?"

"The prisoner cannot talk about a certain topic relating to Colonel Strasse while Miss Strasse is here. As such, she needs to be moved away while I talk to him." You replied as Romeo grabbed Strasse with both hands, securing his grip on her.

"Understood. Logan, Walker, stay here with Eugen and guard him while he interrogates the prisoner. Guzman, Romeo, with me." And with that, three of your comrades walked away with your original prisoner, the one who trusted you with her life.

The one you were now denying the information she craved on her secretive sister.

As the small group walked away until their footsteps were inaudible in the bunker complex, you turned to your now fidgeting prisoner and nodded at him. "You ought to start talking..."

"Well... the incident happened a few months ago. We were offloading an artefact from a recent expedition to an abandoned island near the north pole. Colonel Strasse touched one of the artefacts and there was a blinding light and a shrill, ear splitting scream... W-When the light and the screaming finally died down, we found the colonel screaming on the floor as she tried to rip her eyes from their sockets. We had to sedate her as we took her into the medical wing." Adalbert began to explain calmly, now free from having to worry about an information leek.

"While we were removing her uniform, one of the soldiers found that she was wearing a jewelled choker around her neck with a red gemstone embedded into it. As per procedure, we removed the choker and made to take it back to her quarters along with the rest of her clothes. However, the further away the choker was, the worse her condition became, until she began to suffer cardiac arrest. We though that we were going to loose her, until one of the guards noticed how the gem seemed to glow less and less as it was taken further away from her. When he brought the gem closer to her, her condition began to improve. Eventually she regained consciousness.” He continued as you offered him your canteen, he took a quick swig of water out of it, before then handing it back to you.

>CONT
>>
>>879124
"After rigorous testing, we realised that her soul was now contained inside the gem itself. While the gem was near to her, she gained super-human healing abilities, strength and agility. not to mention the other more magical abilities that she gained! However, when the gem was separated from her, she began to loose strength as the distance became further. Eventually, at great distances, her body would begin to shut down." Adalbert continued on, leaving you with more questions than you had answers to.

"Have you ever managed to reproduce the same results, as in storing someone else's soul in one of these things?" You asked calmly as you wiped the rim of your canteen down with a napkin, before then taking a swig of your own.

"Yes, and on multiple occasions. However, for every one success, we've had over ten failures. And of those few successes, all but one has been on test subjects who are not even remotely useful to the Reich, and as such, those subjects were expended in assorted tests on the subjects and the gems themselves." Adalbert continued, before then adding. "The one other success was the volunteer who took part in the test with the panzer. I haven't seen her since then."

"What can you tell me about how the soul manifestation worked?" You asked incredulously as you tried to get as much information as possible.

"Well, in order to get the highest chances of success, we needed to get a lot of raw energy so that we could brute-force the conversion. And the process of extracting the subject's soul and crystallising it is extremely painful. the Colonel herself described it as more painful than the most extreme torture on the planet." Adalbert then looked you dead in the eyes with a hauntingly hollow expression. "And she would know, she ordered us to put her through said torture so that she would know the limits of her healing abilities."

"And what torture did you put her through?" You asked calmly as you put the to back on your canteen and returned it to the pouch on your harness.

"Anything and everything in the books and so much more... rape, branding, drowning, suffocation. Hell, even things that would be classified as brutal means of execution were tried after we found that we could essentially summon her a new body using the same process that drew out a person's soul." Adalbert explained in a very haunted tone, as if he was loath to talk about it.

"You mentioned that the volunteer was a woman, does this procedure only work on women?" You asked calmly, quickly making to distract your new prisoner from memories that he didn't want to remember.

"No, we have had male test subjects that have undergone the same process, four to be exact. However we tend to use women as they require less energy to undergo the procedure." Adalbert replied calmly, sounding slightly relieved that he didn't have to talk about what the colonel had forced herself through.

"What happened to the artefact?" You asked another question, this time related to the artefact.

"As far as I know, it was taken into storage under Colonel Strasse's direct supervision. It's kept under lock and key at all times." Adalbert replied, with a look in his eyes that said that he had a question of his own.

"And this artefact... did it cause more incidents like that?" You asked another question, deciding to leave his question until you had finished asking yours.

"No, not that I know of anyways." Adalbert replied calmly, before then asking. "Will you tell Frau Strasse? I-If the colonel finds out, then my family..." he trailed off as the implication became apparent.

>"I will not tell Strasse, your family does not deserve to die over something that she can just ask her sister about."

"If you and your family surrender to our main force, you won't have to worry about things like that ever again." You stated, only for your prisoner to burst out laughing.

"That is a very funny joke my friend! You should have chose a career in comedy!" Adalbert laughed heartily, before then stopping just as suddenly as he had began.

"Look, it's obvious from your equipment that you are paratroopers, not line-standard infantry. there is no way on the planet that you would be able to push so far into Europe without paying for every bloody inch. Not after the disastrous attempted landings in Normandy. And even if you had, by some grace of god managed to make a beach landing and push all the way into the fatherland then it still wouldn't matter. You have one of the youngest members of the Strasse family. Her father and older sister may not see eye to eye on most things, but the one thing they agree on is that the young Strasses need to be protected. And they will sooner burn Europe to a crisp than abandon the two youngest members of the Strasse family." Adalbert explained as he stated at you.

"You have neither the support nor the escape route to guarantee my family a life safe from the wrath of the colonel. You don't even have a way out of Europe after your little suicide mission?" Adalbert tossed his hands up into the air in frustration, before then grumbling to himself for a second.

"And so, I shall ask you once again. Will you tell Frau Strasse about the business with her sister?"

"I will not tell Strasse, your family does not deserve to die over something that she can just ask her sister about." You finally conceded, before then adding. "But I hope that you realise that they'll probably just kill you anyway for giving up as much information as you have..."

"That information was irrelevant as your chances of returning to friendly it to an allied nation is slim to none. Additionally, all of that information gave you nothing relating to how to reproduce those results." Adalbert replied confidently as you lead your group back towards the accommodation wing.

"You have no idea how resourceful my unit is. Provided we can evade Strasse's force, we can make it back to Britain." You returned confidently, even though internally you knew that your chances for everyone in your unit escaping with your lives was slim. However, you knew that if you left on your own then you would have a far greater chance to escape.

"If that is what you believe then I wish you luck, the Strasse family does not take kindly to people holding one of their own prisoner." Adalbert wished you luck as your group entered into the accomidation wing. Inside, Gilmore, Guzman, Romeo and Strasse all waited for you to return.

"So, it would seem that we don't have much time left to talk..." Adalbert stated as he came to a stop in the entrance. "Do you have any more questions about my work, or will you be leaving now?"

"No, I don't have any more questions. You may return to your family." You replied, gesturing to the open door of the room you had plucked him out from.

"In which case, I bid you goodbye." Adalbert replied as he offered you his hand. You shook his hand before he left back to his room, where his wife and daughter awaited.

"Are we done here?" Gilmore asked as the unit formed back up again.

"Yes, let us be going." You replied as you took up position in the front of the unit once again, your Colt Monitor pressed up against your shoulder as you moved.

"So Eugen, what the hell did you and that scientist talk about?" Logan asked as you lead the group back towards the cell block.

"Mostly things relating to the humming and his work. Apparently, the humming might be a kind of group hallucination... he explained that it's not unheard of for multiple people to hallucinate the same thing... so I assume that the humming is some kind of hallucination based off that." You inferred your findings from what Adalbert had told you as you continued your way through the bunker complex.

"That hardly seems like the kind of thing you would need test subjects for." Guzman replied from his position in the back.

"Well these halucinations were seen by the test subjects. Typically after they had been tested on." You replied before then adding. "I don't think he's ever heard of it happening to people who have not been tested on." You continued, before then shrugging. "Then again, I didn't really tell him that much."

"Speaking of telling people things, what was he talking about that got Strasse all riled up?" Romeo asked as he pushed Strasse along in the centre of the group.

You contemplated Romeo's question, weighing up the pros and the cons of relaying what you knew. While you knew that giving up the information would likely end in a death sentence for the scientist, any little bit of information would be very useful if you ever had to fight the colonel herself. And either way you cut it, Strasse had a right to know either way.

"The information was regarding an incident that happened to Colonel Strasse, our prisoner's older sister. The incident involved Strasse interacting with an artefact of some kind. Long story short, it ripped her soul from her body and
bound it into a gemstone. As a result, she's stronger, faster and can apparently heal wounds much quicker than a normal person. But at the same time, it only works when the gem is close to her. If it is separated from her by a substantial distance then her body shuts down." You explained calmly, before then adding. "Also, she can survive having her entire body destroyed, provided that the gem remains intact. They can summon a new body to replace the one she'd lost."

"So if we do end up fighting her, what do you recommend?" Gilmore asked as you made your way closer to the cell blocks.

"Try and get to the gem and take it off her. As soon as you have it, get it as far away from her as possible. If you can't run then I guess that you could try to destroy the gem?" You suggested, taking a shot into the dark as you entered the final coridoor between you and the cell blocks. You reached the corner and stopped, listening for the humming from before.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G7pwSiU2diU&spfreload=10

"It's still there... the humming." You reported as you noticed that the doors leading into the cell block were just as they were when you had been here only half an hour ago.

"Really? I can't hear anything." Walker spoke up.

"I can't either... does anybody other than Eugen hear the humming?" Gilmore asked, netting him a chorus of negatives from everybody else in the unit. "In which case, it's your call Eugen. Should we head in or not?"

You paused for a few seconds, contemplating your options, before then nodding, and stepping out from around the corner. Making your way slowly towards the door.

"Logan, Gilmore, get in line with me. When that door is open I want anything in there to die in a hail of bullets." You instructed calmly. Logan and Gilmore quickly jumped into action, even though it only took a few paces for them to position themselves line abreast to you.

"Gilmore and Walker, you both will cover the rear. Romeo, follow us in with Strasse." Gilmore instructed calmly as you reached the doors. You gave the doors a brief push, only to confirm that they were locked.

"Get ready, I'm kicking the doors down." You notified your squadmates, before then stepping back and kicking the door with all your might.

Your boot slammed into the door on the left and splintered the area around the lock, but it still remained in place.

You sighed in unamusement and raised your boot as you kicked again, this time targeting the area where the lock would be on the door on the right. And just like with the first door, the area around the lock splintered, but did not break.

You growled in frustration, before raising your boot and kicking it into where both of the locks met. And this time, both of the locks were snapped out of place as they finally gave way. Logan and Gilmore then charged through the doors with their weapons raised.

"ROOM'S CLEAR!" Gilmore called out as you entered the room, only to stop and stare and the figure standing in the middle of the room. A figure that apparently nobody else in your unit could see.

The room, at least to you, was certainly not clear.
