Heinlein Station, 2511, one month before the Sprawl incident

Another dull day at work, another wasted night at the station's bar trying to pick up chicks and drowning your boredom in booze. At the end of it you're stumbling back to your quarters in the residential zone, alone as always. For the last 3 months this has been your routine, despite your hopeful expectations about station life when you were first assigned here. You thought maybe in space you'd get some excitement, but it's the same damn thing as back on Earth. Just darker, colder and lonelier.
You make a brief stop at a public bathroom on your way, taking your time on the latrine to contemplate quitting your job. With your...
> Engineering
> Military
> Piloting
> Law Enforcement
skills you could go back to Earth and get a just-as-crappy job, at least there you'd get to enjoy the sun sometimes. Or who knows maybe you could even find a date that doesn't try to convert you to Unitology.
Those thoughts are silenced when you hear a few thumping noises coming from the stall next to yours. Which is strange since all the stall doors were unlocked when you came in. In your semi-drunken stupor you decide to...

> Yell at whoever is having sex to keep it goddamn quiet

You put up your pants and leave your stall. It seems the noise came from the one on the right, as you saw before the door is open. To give whoever is inside some warning you knock on the door. No response aside from a gurgling noise. You opt to cautiously open the door, wary of the unpleasant sight you might be walking into. “I really hope it's not some horny kids again” you mutter to yourself.
But an unpleasant sight it was, just not in any way you expected. A man with his forehead torn open, his suit covered in his blood, as is the wall next to your stall. The mystery is, there's no one else in the stall, so who could've done this?
>Inspect the... crime scene?

We have an sneaky murderer (from our point of view) and we are just enforcers, not detectives. Leave the brain work to the investigators. But do take into consideration the kind of injuries the victim had and KEEP your helmet on in case the head buster criminal is still near
>>
Calling your boss seems like the best option. You're just an enforcer, not a detective, this is way above your pay grade. You wait for a brief moment before he picks up the comm line, the projection of a balding old man appearing before you.
“Sir, I've got a big problem here, a mur-” He interrupts you, speaking in a hurry.
“Officer, I was about to call you, there is an incident in the residential quarters. Can you get there fast?”
“I'm nearby sir.”
“Good get there.”
“About that, there was a m-” Great, the old bastard shut off the communications.
So now you have two problems to deal with and you didn't even get to inform him about this one.

Hurry to the residential area. The best we can do is cordon off the bathroom with security holotape. If we don't have any, just leave.
>>
>>979520
>>Hurry to the quarters, you can deal with this murder later

I assume that as an enforcer here, you have the tools to lock the doors forcefully. If that's the case, lock the crime scene so nothing goes in or out and hurry to the quarters. The sooner we deal with the boss's bullshit, the faster we can inform them about this much more important incident
>>
>>979533
>>979535
Better do what the boss tells you to, but to be safe you decide to secure the area first. It doesn't take long for you to assign the door's permission to "Enforcement Officers Only".
As you arrive in the quarters you see a dozen of your peers pointing their pistols towards one of the apartments' doors. You approach them, and notice Officer Stevens is down for the count, a gaping wound on his abdomen. The medical staff is trying to keep him alive but he might be too far gone.
One your seniors sees you and motions for you to come to him.
“Hey, Phil, you have experience with breaching right?” He asks.
“Yeah, worked in a tactical team back on Earth”
“Good, you and two of my guys are going in”.
>Wait, what the hell are we dealing with?

You've got to admit, you were missing the excitement of this kind of mission, but you're also shitting your pants. To make a hole like that in a security RIG? What kind of weapon does the maniac (or maniacs) in there have?

The officer next to you opens the door, and you all rush in, him first, the other guy second and you taking the rear. Everything is dark inside, not a single source of light, which causes the guy taking point to trip on something. The guy coming before you almost shoots blind but you stop him and tell him to turn his goddamn flashlight on. You quickly check what the pointman tripped on. It was just a goddamn trash can. You order your team to check very corner of the current room, making sure it's clear. They inspect the place for a bit with their lights before confirming there are no enemies. Seems like good news, but you notice a trail of blood extending from the entrance to the bedroom and to the bathroom, something which both idiots failed to see.

You decide you're better suited to checking out a larger area, knowing how poorly trained station security is they'd miss the perp if he was sitting in the bed. The two rookies head for the bathroom while you take cover next to the bedroom door.
You open the door almost at the same time as they do, quickly scanning the corner visible from this side you then move in and -
Fly back five feet when something rushes at you. The rookies leave the bathroom, likely having heard you crash on the living room's couch.
>Health Indicator at [9/10]
Your gun got thrown to the side, but you quickly grab it back. Focusing the light at whoever... or rather whatever it is that hit you, a shiver goes down your spine. A person, but not quite, it's limbs elongated, arms like spears and a gaping mouth screeching at the rookies.
They seem to be terrified, missing everything.

Fuck this. Fuck this thing, fuck everything about this place. You shoot wildly spending half your revolver's ammo, and manage to miss the beast completely. The – thing – rushes one of the rookies and impales his head on one of his spikes, you swear you can see bits of his brain falling out and it makes you want to puke. The other rookie loses it and falls on the ground sobbing, his ammo is out and he doesn't seem like he's in the state of mind to recover.
You need to focus if you're making it out of here.

You've gotta get the hell out of this place, at least outside the other officers can cover you but here in the dark and shitting your pants is no place to fight a monster. After rushing to the rookie you grab him by the plate on his back and pull him, but the goddamn idiot struggles and makes you lose your balance. You regain it but not before the thing's mad swinging hits you. Thankfully it hit the plate, so you're a-okay.
A loud shriek hits your ears, but it's not the monsters'. The rookie's leg was ripped right off by one of the slashes and now he's shouting like a madman, but he's alive.
You drag him to the door, opening it in record time. The officers outside recognize it's you so they hold their fire.

Having no idea how tough this thing really is you decide it's better to get back into the fight as soon as you get the rookie to safety. He's heavy while in that suit, close to a 100 kilos, but you manage to send him a good 2 meters away from the door. Hopefully the thing will focus on all the armed cops firing at it instead.
You can hear the growing chatter of civilians, it seems all those officers got the attention of the other residents. It all turns to screams once the monster exits through the door.
“WHAT THE HELL IS THAT?”
“JUST OPEN FIRE”
Every officer empties their guns at it, and so do you. A lot of misses, but by the time you're done there is nothing left but chunks of meat and a pool of blood.
The station director arrives moments later.

“Someone get medical help for officer Marcus” you shout, and you see the team that was taking care of Stevens rush to help the still living but gravely wounded rookie. But your mind isn't at rest yet.
You look at the remains of the monster. It could be alive. It could be, you know it within you. You need to make sure it doesn't get up, and there is only one way to do that.
Reloading a clip you move in next to the beast and proceed to empty another 6 rounds into the mass of flesh. Nobody protests it.
That's when you hear it, a voice, a whisper, but you can't quite comprehend the words. It's coming from inside the apartment.

Your superior seems busy talking with the director, so you take the opportunity to gather some of the officers standing around into your own little incursion. He'll definitely be too busy dealing with this mess to nag at you later.
You tell two to keep the door open and provide some illumination and fire support while another four head in with you, providing extra coverage and light. The whispers seem to come from the bedroom, so you send two guys next to each wall, they check it and give you an 'all clear' signal.
You go in. It's still quite dark, but you are sure the place is empty. Still, the whispers are getting clearer and clearer.
They suddenly stop when you face the bedroom's inner wall next to the door, it's full of scrawlings which look to be written in blood.
“Make us whole”
Followed by some weird script that doesn't make any sense. You take a moment to photograh it with your suit's inbuilt functions, just in case.
At least the place is clear of hostiles.

It's about time you went to give that report, so you head back out along with the other enforcers. The director seems to be calming down and reassuring the civilians. Director White is a dick, but you've gotta hand it to him that he's a master of bullshit if he can stop civvies from rioting after a display like this. Your superior and his lieutenant seem to have gone back to organizing the other officers, so it's a good time for you to approach the director.
Something comes back to your mind. The bathroom murder, could it be connected to this? It has to be.
White sees you approaching, so he lets one of his aides continue the talk with the residents and comes to meet you.
“Philips, I need you to tell me everything you saw there, every detail. This is of the utmost importance.”

You refuse vehemently, a monster in the station and he's worried about your mental stability? He should be more worried about everyone's bodily integrity instead, 3 dead and one injured in the span of fifteen goddamn minutes. It doesn't take much for him to budge.
“Alright, alright, you've got a point. But please, talk to Doctor Reed when this is all under control, I'm sure she can help you get a grip of this.”

Had to make a brief pause.

You head back to the other enforcers. The Lieutenant is gone, but your Sergeant is still around, seems like he's briefing the rest already.
“We're in charge of securing the residential zone as well as the entertainment and business areas. Miller and his boys will be forming one team to defend this area” he gestures towards a group of 12 enforcers “But since we're down 3 men that leaves only 9 men in the other area, for that reason I'm going there along with Philips to help secure the location” He looks to you and you nod to confirm you've understood your orders.
A few minutes later and you're back where you started the night, sitting around the pub.. With you are two officers and the sergeant himself, the other 7 guys have divided into a group of 4 and a group of 3 and are patrolling other parts of the business district.

You wait to see if any of them have a reply, but they just seem confused.
“Give it up yet?”
“Just say it already” your sargeant replies.
“You Planet”
After a few seconds one of the rookie officers starts laughing, while trying to hold it back. The one next to him just facepalms and sighs.
Your sergeant just shrugs “I'm glad you can keep your sense of humour, in times like these...”
He doesn't get to finish that sentence, as he is interrupted by a sharp metallic sound in the adjacent store.

After you're done you grab a pulse rifle and a grenade, then group up with your squadmates.
“We're doing this fast and quiet” informs the sarge as you all stand in front of the store, a small restaurant.

You go with the flow. The instructions you get are pretty clear and you can't complain about how thorough the man is. After checking the entire front of the restaurant, including under every table, it's time to move into the kitchen.
The team goes in, and immediately the smell of blood fills your nostrils. One of the rookies spots the body first, near the backdoor that leads to the shared storage. You feel something is off about this, your gut tells you there is something you're missing.

Better to be thorough about clearing every area. You head to the storage room, but as you open the door you notice what seemed off. Footprints. Specifically, boot prints in blood, leading from out of the storage not in-
Luckily you turn back just int in time to see the monster lurking on the ceiling, it looks like the first one but has no les, a long deformed tail coming out of it's rear instead.

Poor guy must've been working a late shift when he got ambushed in the storage.
He tried to run and got stuck here instead, the noise you heard was probably from the monster.
Is this thing intelligent? That's fucking horrifying.
Did it know you'd come and check this place if it made a mess?
Did it expect you to go into the storage where it'd be easier to trap and attack you?
Screw all those thoughts, whatever it is you know it can be killed just like the other one.
You open fire, the others follow suit. It leaps out of the way and next to you but gets hit a couple of times.

Can't let this leaper get one of your guys, not another one, not on your goddamn watch. You move swiftly and throw your weight behind a straight kick to it's face, but with such momentum that the kick becomes a stomp. Your foot crushes the monster's head against the wall. After that you quickly back up against the opposite wall and take aim.
It's still alive but it doesn't look like it can sense anything as it's just flailing around attacking thin air.

'It's time to finish this', you think to yourself as you bat away the leaper's claws with the butt of your rifle. You stomp on it's back, then grabbing each of it's flailing wrists you pull, and pull, harder until you feel the muscles in your back flare in pain and you hear the sickening sound of bone and meat ripping from bellow you. In a moment it stops moving as you dangle both of it's ripped off arms at your sides.
“Holy shit” one of the officers mutters.
“I think I'm gonna puke.”
“Good... good work officer” the sargeant manages to let out.

It's best to just keep it to yourself and be ready for action. If these things are half as smart as you think they are then you can't waste time not focusing on your surroundings.
You're aware it might come off a bit paranoid, but it has saved you before and it will save you again.
The sergeant closes off his comms and sits on his chair, apparently pondering something, the rookies just idle around, one of them takes off his helmet to eat some food he found on one of the tables.
Then the lights go out.
Your flashlights turn on automatically, but in moments the power is back on, followed by the alarm system blaring from every corner.
“Warning to all personnel: Explosion in sector 3, the hangar, requesting that all citizens stay where they are.” the PA says, it's the directors' voice.
You all look to the sarge for guidance.
“Let's stay put, we have orders to secure this place”.

Sarge and the others consider your words before one of the rookies speaks up.
“It can't be right, Miller is a tough nut to crack no way he got killed by a bunch of space zombies!”
“No. Philips is right, these things are a menace which we aren't trained to deal with” says the now calm and focused Sargeant. He breathes in.

Bar has the back and the front doors.
Same for the restaurant.
Clothes shop has two "street" entrances and a back one for employees.
Bank has just a single door, it's not guarded or reinforced since it doesn't need to be and it's just there to do bureacrat work on transactions.

You didn't bother getting to memorize vents because before this that kind of layout intel wasn't useful.

You decide to offer your opinion. "We won't be able to re-stock our ammo here, we need to make use of anything. That and the RIGs should offer more protection against heat and fire than against the lethal limbs of those monsters." The officer grumbles something but doesn't seem eager to debate with you. Maybe it's because of your little display earlier.
The sarge is about to go back to his cocktail making when you interrupt him again.
“Hey, have you tried contacting the other teams? It might be good to inform them we're holed up in here and the others are missing.”
“Well I'd need to spend some time talking to each individually. I'll just send a message to command and ask them to relay the intel.”
“Fair enough.”
He does so, and to your surprise the director informs you he's rerouted the troops from the hangar to here, which is strange. Why leave it unguarded?
You brush it off and decide to check the outside again. Things seem mostly quiet, most people who stayed are doing so against the director's orders so they'll probably just stay hidden. Or so you think until you see some weird civvie girl running out of the bank. Might be worth checking?

She thanks you and you lead her inside, the others don't seem to mind.
It's only logical that security do what they can to protect the citizens.
The girl takes a sit at the counter, you notice she's not carrying a gun or anything for her own defense.
You take your position at the front then order your team-mates to cover.

When it's clear they're all wasting ammo on you, the rest of the team knows it's their time.

Sarge tells you the girl got hit, and you pray it's nothing severe.
From the other street another group of cultists comes up, 3 of them. This totals 4 of these freaks and one sniper.

You decide a tactical retreat trough the backdoor is your best bet. Using the molotovs to cover the entrance you quickly join your crew behind the counter.
Carla got shot in the shoulder, but it doesn't seem like it made a mess of her, just civvies being civvies you suppose.
Sarge grabs her by the waist while you get the spare pulse rifle. Poor rookies, none of these guys deserved this.
You open the door and the team rushes behind you, crossing the storage and getting the restaurant's backdoor, you wait for a while and hear the cultists entering the bar, they'll realize it soon so you've got to move fast.
Everyone rushes out the entrance and away from the fight while they're distracted. And then you feel it, a hot warm sensation spreading through your chest. You look down and see a puncture in your armor, blood pooling around your lower ribs.
>No time to die, move to the elevator
>Fuck this, stay around and provide covering fire to your mates' retrat
>Ask the rookie to help you, which will immobilize all your guns

I suggest we get the fuck out of here...but I don't trust myself or anything. The Marker already has me anons
>>
Screw it, you're done for might as well use your last moments well.
After telling the team of your plan you head to a pillar protruding from one of the nearby shop's walls and ready yourself behind that small piece of cover.
It doesn't take long for the cultists to notice your ruse and rush back out, they take aim at your colleagues who are trying to get to the elevator. Not on your watch.
The element of surprise lets you take one of the enemies down and wound another, but soon they concentrate fire on your position.
You're pinned but at least your friends have safe passage away from here. The sniper must be trying to relocate to a point where he can see this area, you think, so you have time for one last moment of glory.
The grenade in your hands feels heavy, and you falter just long enough for you to hear gunfire coming from behind the enemy position.
Could it be...
You peek from your pillar to see the cultists being torn down by the reinforcements the director said he'd send.
The cavalry really came, and you fade into unconsciousness with a smile on your face...

That's it for now (I'm really goddamn sleepy), the thread will probably be arrive so I plan to continue tomorrow afternoon.
See you lads!

At first everything was quiet and dark like the starless nights back on earth. Until the whispers started, softly almost as if caressing your ears at first but slowly building up to a maddening buzz.
The darkness gave place to the bodies of all the people you had seen die in this station, their skin covered in those same mysterious sigils that appeared in the apartment and on the invaders' armor.
You wake up in a sweat, with ragged breath. Instinctively you try to get up but a sharp pain on your chest makes you reconsider, instead you simply take in your surroundings.
Many beds surrounded by medical equipment, a few men and women in white coats walking around. It's pretty clear you've been taken to the med-bay.
“Don't worry, we're safe here, officer” you hadn't noticed the sergeant sitting a few meters away from your bed.
> “Did everyone make it?”
> “Who brought us here?”
> “What's our situation?
> “How bad was it?”

Despite looking around again you don't see Carla or Gomez around. “Did everyone make it?”
“They did” he grins “Barely a scratch aside from your situation, that girl's wounds were superficial enough that they sent her home already, officer Gomez escorted her there and should be back in a moment.
“And while we wait for him let me break the big news to you. We've been reassigned to the squad that rescued us so we're ordered to guard the medical sector until further notice.”
“We just stay here then?” says your fellow officer as he arrives on the scene.
“That's what the director ordered yes. That said he asked for someone to transport the remains we collected to the laboratories, which I will be helping with.”
>Ask to join him in transporting the remains
>Choose to remain here
>Question him about your injuries, are you fit for duty?

>Question him about your injuries, are you fit for duty?
>>
Upon being asked if you're fit for duty the sarge grimaces. “Not exactly” he gets up and leans on the closest end of the bed.
“A hole in your chest is nothing to scoff at, but the doctors said you're stable.
Usually you'd be stuck in that bed until you recovered, but the director asked for all
personnel whose injuries haves stabilized to return to the field.
Those are the orders, but be sure after all you did I'm not pressing you into it.”
>Stay here, it's safer to guard somewhere since you're injured
>Insist on going to the lab, you might learn something there
>Question him about something else? (what?)

You opt for the guard duty and he seems like a weight is lifted off his back.
“I'll be glad knowing you're safe. Gomez and you are the only two officers left from my squad.”
He takes his leave, the other officer following shortly behind but not before thanking you,
probably for the whole 'I'll stay and cover everyone' stunt you pulled off.
It seems you're left here with your new assigned squad which you've yet to meet,
but the place doesn't seem to be in any immediate danger.
>Gear up
>Don't geat up
And what will you do while you wait for your services to be needed?
>Maybe visit that psychiatrist the director recommended?

'Better be ready for anything' you think while suiting up and grabbing your weapons.
You look around for any extra supplies, coming up with two small medpacks,
some ammo and an extra grenade from the supplies cache you assume was brought in by the security squad.

After a minute looking for the local squad's sargeant you spot him sitting next to a barricade at the
medical sector entrance.
One of the grunts spots you and speaks up “Hey look, it's the new guy up and walking about”
“Bet you're glad we showed up to save your asses.”
“Shut up O'brian” his superior, or rather, your superior gets up to greet you.
“Welcome to the 3rd division's 3rd squad. I know you've been roughed up but
from what the other survivors told me you're a tough one to break.”
He offers you his hand and you shake it.
“If you're ready to get to work I need someone to patrol the east wing, the surgical block”
>Alright, time to go 'do your beat'
>Give me some time, still gotta recover a little more (go do something else? What?)
>Write-in

>Alright, time to go 'do your beat'

“Alright, I'll go patrol it, sir.” He nods and goes back to his seat.
“But before that, stop me if you've heard this one: Does an apple a day keep the doctor away?”
“Well, yes, but only if you aim it well enough.”
They all seemed puzzled at the question, but you get at least some grins out of everyone.
Upside of all this is that you've finally found a more receptive crowd for your jokes.
You take your leave and head to your patrol area. The hallways in the surgical block are pretty narrow.
Narrower than the usual ones, maybe it's to save space for the large rooms the doctors operate in.
The place isn't empty, and you see there's about half a dozen surgeries going on at once, one of them you could see was the removal of a monster spike that had impaled a man's thigh.
After about half an hour of boring patrol you get a comm call:
“Hey, new guy, one of the doctors reports he heard some weird noises while he operated in one of the surgical theaters. Go check it out” you acknowledge your orders and move to the specified room.
It's pretty clear a surgery took place here recently, blood is splatter on the table and on the floor, a large rotating saw sits on the surgical table along with other instruments and a curtain separates the room in two.
The room is apparently empty, but you've got a weird feeling pulling on the back of your mind.
>Check the ceiling, a leaper again?
>Check behind the curtain
>Inspect the room further

You trust your instincts and focus on every detail around the room.
Nothing seems to stick out, until some small splatters near a duct come to your attention.
There's no way the blood splattered all the way from the surgical table onto the duct,
it's just not possible. 'The answer is simple' you think, as you move around the table for a better view of what's inside, your eyes meeting the whitened eyes of a monster, 'it's one of those goddamn sneaky bastards'.
You...

Taking it out fast is what matters, these things are dangerous if you let them get close.
You open fire on the duct, tearing the metal apart and blasting the beast behind it a few new holes.
When it stops twitching you stop shooting. “Threat neutralized” you inform your superior through comms.
But you soon realize that was far from true, when you hear the sound of something heavy dropping down on the hallway outside the room.
>Aim at the window
>Aim at the door

Back. I'm wondering if I should make a new thread, not really used to quest management.

What you need is the element of surprise.
With the window covers down it's likely the monster can't see what's inside, so you position yourself behind the curtains and wait.
Moments later you hear the sound of bone crashing against metal, followed by footsteps inside the surgery room.
You hold your breath and wait for just a little while longer, as it doesn't take long for the beast's steps to move back towards the window.
>Now, attack it from behind!
>No, wait until it's out, combat's not necessary right now
>Go for the saw instead, you could conserve ammo
>Write-in
