“But what’s she got planned for a bunch of criminals?” Goku asks, looking over to his son and daughter playing with Pantea.

“Proooobably something she sees as ironic, clever, nefarious, and a thing that will further the sick and twisted game she tries to play with us.” Yamcha comments, finishing a cup of tea. “You know, the usual.”

This is a strange situation. Jailbreaks all over the Earth, but while most people trying to run were quickly caught... there are a few that were never caught. But there’s one that seems to be worrying Launch the most.

“That’s a start.” Goku states with a wide grin, standing up and stretching.

Let’s see... well, two places stick out to you. Wheelo’s Lab, if it’s still intact, and that place you encountered Lucifer again by Basil Town. Those might be good starting off points. You turn to Launch first, before mentioning them. “Say, uh... did... well, did you start to see any improvement with Hasky before she escaped?”

The blonde woman looks down, sighing again. “Barely more than marginal. She stopped trying to go to that bar after every attempt, at least.”

“It’s something.” you say softly. Okay, time for a plan.

Launch raises an eyebrow. “Why there?”

You cross your arms. “Brobro and I have previously encountered Towa there, and while she and Gero probably cleaned out most of the area back then, I bet if we look hard enough, we can find something they might’ve missed. Something that might give us a clue. After all, Wheelo was involved with Towa and Gero way back when he went around capturing people.”

Goku grins. “Heh, sounds like a plan, Maple.”

Yamcha stands. “I’m coming too. Might be a good idea to stretch my legs a bit.”

All right, Launch, Goku, Yamcha, and yourself... and you know there are three pairs of eyes staring at you, about to ask if they can tag along.

“I know you’re there, kids.” you comment, not even turning your head. “Pantea, ask your mom and dad first.”

Yamcha looks to his daughter, then calls out to Bulma. “I’ll keep her safe, promise!”

“You better!” she shouts in return. “And keep yourself safe too, Yamcha!”

“Hey, come on, it’s only going to an abandoned, desolate, mad scientist lab up in the Arctic. What’s the worst that could happen?” Yamcha laughs out.

“Magil’s ghost haunting there?” Goku speculates.

“Magic genie monsters!” Peppa adds.

“Space Pirates!” Pantea pipes in.

Yamcha frowns at the three of them, giving an obviously faked look of betrayal towards his daughter. You and Launch chuckle. “You’re only doing this because you know they’d come anyway, aren’t you?” the blonde woman asks you.

“Oh they’d probably listen if I said ‘no,’ but better to keep them close, just in case.”

Using Instant Transmission, you search for a Ki closer to the north and teleport to it with everyone holding on, surprising a bear person for a moment before flying off towards Wheelo’s lab. And already, the kids are shivering because of the temperature difference.

Looks like it’s mostly intact, and nothing all that suspicious at first glance. Though you’re sensing... something. Something is there, and hiding its Ki.

“Pantea, if you’re that cold, maybe you should use the Clothes Beam for yourself.” you comment to the girl, then looking to Gohan and your daughter. Looks like they haven’t quite learned the trick Tien taught you yet, all those years ago.

Pantea quickly poofs up a thick coat for herself, then notices you looking to your kids, and poofs up matching ones for them next, smiling sweetly. Yamcha looks to her proudly before walking forward with Launch and Goku, you staying behind with the kids. That Ki you sensed is still there... seems to be moving. Almost like it’s observing your group.

“So, it’s not just me that’s sensing that, right?” Yamcha questions.

“Doesn’t seem hostile, whatever it is.” Goku points out.

Well, he’s right. It’s not making any moves against you just yet, and while it’s close, it’s definitely keeping itself hidden. Launch forms a small sphere of Ki to serve as a light as you travel down deeper. You end up where... well, you confronted Piccolo for the first time all those years ago, under Wheelo’s control.

Heh, Vegeta probably would’ve hated that guy.

Launch and Yamcha look around, Goku sticking by you and the kids. Pantea places her hands behind her head and comments to Gohan, “Reminds me of the Wrecked Ship a bit with all this architecture.”

“Though we haven’t had to shoot any doors to open them yet.” your son responds.

You and Goku turn to the kids and let out a soft “Huh?”

The two of them smile innocently. “Oh, just some videogames we play after we’re done with our studies.” Pantea replies.

Yamcha laughs. “Yeah yeah, no Space Pirates here, kid-”

A panel on one of the consoles near where he’s standing opens up, a small blue figure briefly visible before it runs off. Wait a second... was that one of Wheelo’s knockoff Saibamen?

You breathe out “Samma Ditthi.” in the direction of the creature. There’s... something unusual about it. It isn’t afraid of you, nor is it openly hostile. It’s observing you out of pure curiosity’s sake. Which makes it seem even stranger, if it’s one of those blue Saibamen. Even a brief glance at the creature’s mind makes something about this seem... off.

Though guess it can’t hurt to try. “Hello there! Sorry to barge in like this, but we’re looking for something. We don’t mean you any harm, so-”

The creature seems to move further back into wherever it’s hiding, not responding. Father and daughter slump, disappointed, as Yamcha and Pantea give them unamused glances.

Launch pinches the ridge of her nose. “We don’t have time for your games, whatever you are. This is kind of important, so-”

“They you know the password. What is it?”

You know, you bet Nappa knows enough about these things that he could get it to tell you what it’s doing here. He planted a few of them on Earth when he and Vegeta arrived. Ah well...

It shrieks in terror. “THE GOATLY ONE?! What news does he bring?” It then... seems to stare at Yamcha for an uncomfortably long and silent period of time.

Time you use to telepathically tell Pantea to sneak around and try to look into some of the computers here, try and do some investigation while the four of you keep... whatever this thing is, occupied. You’re pretty sure this is no average Bio-man.

“The scar-faced man has arrived too. Many a coin was spent betting on him.” it adds, Yamcha stepping back nervously. “What of the potatoes?”

“It’s not the right harvest time for those, it’s only May.” Goku comments ernestly.

“Bah, too early, too early! The rockets will have to wait.” it mumbles out. “The strong one must sleep further.”

“I am completely lost.” Launch breathes out in an exasperated sigh.

Yamcha, still backing away nervously, repeats, “S-strong one?”

For a brief, unsettling moment, its tone changes. Not the odd but non-hostile one it was using before. It becomes one much deeper, calmer, direct... and dripping with malice. “The Majin.”

“The potatoes must be the freshest, strongest ones!” it replies, slightly frustrated.

Oh that isn’t helping. “And your name, what might it be?”

“I am the Blue one. This is the Grey one.” he shakes the bucket-mop, then points away from you all, “There is the Green one.”

Everyone takes a defensive stance as it... hops and flips in place, not really doing much of anything. Now how the hell did that thing get here? Leftovers from the first batch? ...why can’t you sense anything but the tiniest hint of its Ki?

...Looks like you found the people working with that “contact.” Or at least you hope you are, because you don’t want ANOTHER unspeakable evil showing up out of nowhere to try and cause havoc. And... if it’s the same one, this timescale works with the Saibaman being here. Might have been a leftover from Nappa’s ones. You look to the Bio-man defensively. Maybe... you can find where it is, stop it before it wakes up? Or at least keep stalling until the kids find something.

You all look around, trying to sense for whoever has arrived. You did just feel someone approach, but seems like... well, a normal person’s Ki. Not a demon, or a powerful alien, or anything. Just... a regular Earthling.

You look to the bucket-mop and squint. Can never be too careful... “Samma Ditthi.”

Yep, it’s just a bucket. And a mop. And a tiny demon.

“Grey, will you meet that challenge? I raised it higher.” you say to the mop-bucket.

Goku scratches his head, Yamcha and Launch looking at you like you’ve started to go mad, then at each other, worrying that this place might be more nefarious than it appears. The Bio-man seems to shake it, but looking at it carefully, you notice that the thing actually moved by itself. “TWO MILLION.”

Yamcha and Launch look at the bucket-mop in disbelief, then at each other again. “We’re losing it aren’t we?”

‘You’re not, there is something there.’ You inform them. ‘It looks like a very, very tiny demon. Like... the size of a mushroom, it’s hidden under the mop “wig” it has.’

Though you’re not getting much out of it, no more than you’re getting out of the Bio-man or Saibaman. Same occupation on “strength” in its mind.

And you use the Raio-ken to bolt to it and close the door. Peppa giggles happily. The person opens up the door again, and you close it. Your sister laughs harder, even Pantea letting out a soft giggle as you stall him. “...We’re doing just fine, Mrs. Maple.”

“YOU STOP THAT!” the person shouts as they open it again.

And then you close it.

“YOU BRAT!” the man, a lanky person in a lab coat, screams at you, opening the door again.

And you close it once more.

He seems to wait a moment before trying again. “...To hell with this, I don’t care if you are a bunch of brats, I’m not dealing with this today!”

The three of you wait, and... you sense someone stronger than him, much stronger, show up. The door opens once more, and a man in a leotard with long, wild red hair and a scratchy beard stands with the scientist. You try closing the door again, but the person just breaks it open. Pantea and Peppa stand, readying themselves.

“I don’t know how you kids got in here, but you’ve clearly seen too much already. Spopovich! Dispose of them!”

The scientist catches that and looks at you, confused for a moment, letting go of Spopovich’s arm. He keeps charging that Ki blast... yeah you’re not taking any chances. You hold back just enough to make sure you don’t hurt either of them. Aaaand jump! You land a solid kick to Spopovich’s jaw and kick him down the hall!

...and the kick makes him fire the Ki blast, hitting some of the monitors and causing a bit of an explosion. Pantea and Peppa grab the Scouters just in time, but looks like you’ll need to make a bit of an exit now. Won’t be getting much else out of this place.

Pantea crosses her arms and looks at you disapprovingly, before getting communication from her Scouter. “It was just a bit of trouble, we’ve been spotted. Yeah, we got... all we could. We'll be there soon, don't worry.”

The scientist can be heard sobbing softly where he fell. “Years of work. Gone in an instant.”

“My work... no... they’ll push to have this accelerated. Soon. Soon Lord Jaguar will have him. Especially if the new energy source proves fruitful. Eheh. Ehah. Hahahaha. Shame I won't know what it was...”

Pantea looks to him, confused. “Have who? What’ll be accelerated?”

Between mad giggles, he states, “The Majin will have enough energy to awaken. And Lord Jaguar will have him under complete control.”

...Waaaait a second. Okay, you have a bit of an idea. You look to Spopovich confidently, then wave your arm, signaling for him to come at you. And he charges like a bull. Luckily, you don’t even need to try to dodge him. He’s stronger than an average person, but you, Peppa, and Pantea are all above that. You step out of the way, and he charges right into the tunnel.

And through it.

Well, looks like it’s big enough to get through now. Ah, but he’s still up and ready. You look to your sister. “Peppa, kick him after he snorts again!”

“EXITS STAGE LEFT! EXITS STAGE RIGHT! THERE IS NO PLACE TO RUN! ALL THE FUSES IN THE EXIT SIGNS HAVE BURNT OUT!” Spopovich shouts, catching the attention of the adults. You drag the scientist through the now-larger hole and walk to your mama.

“Gohan, what is-” You then hand the giggling man to her.

And right as Spopovich snorts... “NOW, SIS!”

“PEPPA SMASH!” she shouts, dropkicking Spopovich and knocking him into a wall.

You hear him groan softly, your sister landing and doing a little victory jab into the air. And then a blue bug person... walks to the giggling scientist. “YOU’RE HERE! WE CAN INCREASE THE BET NOW!”

Out of the corner of your eye you spot Mrs. Launch holding her face in her hand, sighing angrily, as Mr. Yamcha tilts his head in mild confusion. Pantea gives your mama her Scouter.

“HOW MUCH MONEY WILL YOU ADD TO THE BET?”

“Eheh. Eheh hahaha. Heehee. Hahoo. Haaaah...” he babbles incoherently.

“...ONE HUNDRED MILLION! Will that satisfy the Goatly one’s increase?” the blue bug asks your mama.

You’re starting to realize that this place is very silly.

“...Mama, did we step through the looking glass? Because I feel a bit like Alice right now.” you mumble as you survey the odd scene once more. Your mama gives you a slightly confused glance, raising an eyebrow.

“No drinks that make you big or make you small yet. I don’t think we’ve chased the rabbit that far.” Pantea comments, smirking at you.

“So what’s the cricket person talking about?” you ask.

“How much money will be bet! How much, how much! Will you meet the raise?” the blue bug babbles.

“...I don’t think I can. The Goatly one will be impressed. Slightly.”

...you’re lost. “Mama, something seems...” You look to the still cackling scientist, the groaning Spopovich, and the bug people, the blue one still babbling as the green one just... sort of flips in place. “...off. These people aren’t very well, are they. Can Auntie Trip fix them?”

“Huh, you know, Trip might be able to help us a bit.” your papa adds. “Whatcha think, Maple?”

She nods, bringing the scientist over her shoulder. “It would be a good idea. Not much else we can do here, and that strange bug seems important if this place detected it. Maybe it’s related?”

“What about Towa?” Launch questions. “We came here for that, was there anything on her here?”

“Oh, some of the files I downloaded had references. If we get them to Capsule Corp, I’m sure my mom could get them out quickly.” Pantea comments, then looks at you again.

You rub the back of your neck. “...Sorry. They broke when I tried to stop that guy.”

Your mama... doesn’t actually seem surprised. “Thank you for being honest, son.”

Launch looks to the two bug people. “I’ll head to Capsule Corp. then, you guys deal with... that mess however you want.”

“Got it! Goku, Gohan, Peppa, grab on.” your mama asks, picking up Spopovich, the two bugs, and for some reason a bucket wearing a mop. You and your sister grab hold of her legs as your papa puts his hand on your mama’s shoulder, and soon you’re all teleported to the Lookout.

...and the blue bug starts freaking out as Mr. Popo waves to you. “THE BLACK ONE! GREAT JINN OF THE SKIES!”

He stares at it blankly as he waters the plants... oh, right! “Mama, what’s a Mah-jinn?”

“...Ah, so you learned about that.” She gives an uneasy look to the scientist. “...we’re going to talk with Auntie Trip for a bit. You kids stay here and behave, okay?”

Peppa nods as the blue bug starts... running around the lookout, screaming.

“Promise, mama!” you tell her, then turn your attention to the screaming bug thing. “...Mr. Popo, the bug seems afraid of you. Do you know him?”

“I can say for certain that I have never met a creature like that.” he replies in a calm, formal tone. “Nor its equally strange friend.” he adds, looking to the green variant.

Your sister looks to the blue bug and holds her hands over her ears. “He yells a lot.”

You chase after him and catch up, showing off your superior speed and stopping the bug. It... still tries to run and scream, so you hold it over your head and bring it back to Mr. Popo. “Mr. Popo is very friendly! See?” you ask it.

It screams louder.

“I assure you, I mean no harm.” he tells the blue bug.

It... calms down, slightly. “Ah, of course, of course. If the Black one wished me gone, I would not have lasted.” It struggles out of your hands, goes to grab the mop-bucket, and bows before Popo. “Great Black Jinn of the Skies! The Goatly one’s acolyte has brought me before you! The best and greatest of potatoes are to be put in their rockets.”

Mr. Popo stares at it blankly. “...I see.”

It raises its head, waving the mop. “Do you wish to add to the betting pool?”

“That will not be necessary.”

And it grovels. “Of course! Of course! Such tasks are beneath one such as yourself!” It then... shakes the mop-bucket combo. “Apologize, stupid!”

“KEE-KEE!” the green bug laughs... giggles...? ...vocalizes.

“...They’re a bunch of weirdos, Mr. Popo.” Peppa observes, hovering slightly in the air.

Well... now what? Oh, maybe... “Mr. Popo, I heard you taught mama some tricks a long time ago. Can you teach us?”

He gives you both curious looks... then smiles, and holds out a bell. “Do you think you can take this from me?”

You nod, then bow to him politely. Okay Gohan, you can do this. Concentrate. You close your eyes and listen to the soft jingle of the bell as Mr. Popo holds it, keeping his Ki in clear focus. You dash towards him, and he’s surprised by your speed, only narrowly avoiding you.

But you don’t stop and turn back, you instead keep going, and build up more speed. You start to circle back around to Mr. Popo. Your next pass around is even closer, Popo only pulling it away at the last second. But you planned for that.

You smile and force yourself to make a quick stop, the momentum building up in your body. In an instant, you use it as a bit of a spring to launch yourself back at Mr. Popo. Soft as the sky, but quick as lightning!

“Got it!” you cheer, snatching the bell out of Mr. Popo’s hand, landing gracefully.

He looks to you, mildly surprised, but clearly glad you succeeded. “Well, you truly are their child, my boy.” He turns to face you. “You’ve even applied those skills without the transformation. Quite remarkable.” The pitch-black jinn then rubs his chin curiously. “...There may be more you can do with that, actually. You seem to be a natural at high movement, little Gohan. Here’s a thought: have you tried applying your magic to your speed?”

...Magic, enhancing your speed? Huh, that’s an idea. But your conversation is interrupted by your mama and papa showing up again. And they seem... worried. “What’s wrong?”

“Gohan, Peppa, we need you two to stay here for a while, okay?” your mama asks. “Something’s happening down at Amenbo Island, and we need you two to stay here with Auntie Trip. Keep watch over these guys for your mama and papa.”

...You’re not sure why, but something about how she says this... troubles you. “...Stay safe, mama.”
