You stand on front of Laki and put your hands on your hips while posing heroically. “I’m always hard.”

She looks up at you. It’s only now that you realize how close to her face you got. She smirks. “Doesn’t look like it. But if you were, you’d probably be more popular with the girls.”

She pokes you in the gut, causing you to double over in surprise and a ticklish reflex. “Well, you’re not soft, anyway.” She refers to your stomach. “Relax.”

That’s good advice. You look around for where to lie down. You can already feel your head getting heavy. You awkwardly lay down next to Laki, who is tugging at the top of her own towel to cool herself off. You sort of regret lying down now, since the view from above must be something else.

Huh. She was right about inhibitions. You’re not a perv or anything, but you usually stop yourself from having those sorts of thoughts when you’re around people. It feels rude to think it unless you’re alone, for some reason.

You adjust. You need something to rest your head on. Without thinking, you skooch over to lay your head on Laki’s lap.

“Herb?”

“Mnehg?”

“Nevermind. Too comfy to care.”

Your eyes flutter a bit and you decide to close them. You feel Bella come up and snuggle against you.

You know what you always thought was funny? Curry is basically just a soup that you stir fry.

You’re heavy, you’re relaxed. You’re very much at peace for the time being.

You wonder if you’re supposed to think something.

You look inside yourself. You feel like you can’t lie right now. Like even if you wanted to, which you don’t, you couldn’t close any of your inner walls.

“It’s something I’m good at.” You say louder and prouder than you’d expect yourself to sound. “Something I want to master.”

The question isn’t for you. It’s contemplative.

You look around. You’re in a forest. It’s the same kind as back home, near your grandpa’s old daycare. The tall trees make you feel connected to all the people who came before you, before cars and boats and modern towers and computers and all of that. It was just this, people, pokemon, and the land.

You stumble onto spiderweb. Not a pokemon, but just a regular one. You’re about to just sidestep out of the way before you see a butterfly trapped in it. Your eyes fall to a spider on the ground. It’s got a long journey before it gets to it’s trapped prey. For some reason, you can tell how hungry he is. This meal means life and death. It might not even make the journey up.

You reach out your hand. The spider, too weak to run, watches helplessly. But you don’t crush it. You offer it help. It climbs onto your hand, then off of it when you get to the butterfly. It consumes it’s prey without thought or mercy, then in an acceleration of time, moves on to have many eggs and offspring.

“An affinity for predators? An appreciation for the natural laws?” The voice speculates.

You’re a guard to the gates of paradise, in shining golden armor. Your job is to judge those who enter. You want to let in the righteous, and turn away anyone who would make it worse. Only after you choose do you know someone’s true intentions.

Last time, you allowed a man entry. He appeared fine, your view of his life from here allowed you to see him work with charity. He had a stain of blood on his hands, though. He claimed it was the blood of a friend who had suffered an injury, who he saved.

The man went on the cause havoc once inside. He weakened things, causing damage and injury. He had lied. The utopia can withstand a few more of those, but not many before it’s walls would fall.

Another man with blood on his hands comes, asking to be let in. A doctor, he says. What you can see of his life seems to back that up. You have a better feeling about him, but still.

You step aside, and the man enters paradise. Only time will tell if he makes it better, or makes it lesser.

You turn to see a trade ship that was launched a long time ago. Pokemon and sailors scurry about on the deck, getting ready to dock.

“Herb!” The man yells. It’s someone you know. A friend.

“You call yourself Herb in your head.” The disconnected voice comments.

You move on. “Friend! That’s a different ship than what you left on.”

He shakes his head. “The materials faded over time. First we replaces one part, then the other, then eventually all of them. We updated the design as well. We even had a change of helpers. I’m the only original piece.”

You give it a closer look. He’s right. The crew, while all acting just like the old one with their work, is made of different faces. The pokemon are from different lands. The ship is made of different materials and the design is different too. Yet the name, The Tauros, is the same.

You think you heard about this thought experiment somewhere. You don’t remember.

“Hey, hold on.” you step in front of it like a cartoon figure. Your legs feel like tubs of liquid that you control. You’re relaxed and fine.

It looks incredibly confused. It has important things to say.

You’re already cooking up some pancakes. You’ve had a craving for them all day. You toss one over.

It floats in front of the creature. He’s shrunk to your size. He sniffs, then bites it.

And he looks impressed. You’d hope so. That’s the best pancake you’ve ever made.

“Relax.” You feel mellow and want to spread it. “Get comfortable. The next course is coming up.” You’re already cooking it up, adjusting heat levels and taste testing.

It looks very frustrated with this time wasting and tomfoolery, but when you toss it the last of the pancakes, it begrudgingly eats them. You feel like you’ve established a stronger connection.

It wants to show you something, but it thinks you might misunderstand. He wants peace, but not before he fixes something.

“I don’t understand what you’re talking about.” You say casually, adjusting your sunglasses. You’re just feeling so chill with things that they appeared.

He wants to show you something for now, but only if you promise to lie about it for now. To trust him in that he has a plan. You feel a great and terrible amount of ego and shame being suppressed as it asks you this favor.

It growls as it nods. You don’t think it’s growling at you, though.

You’re transported to the sky, high above a massive island. Maybe it’s better to be called a continent. Primitive settlements and peoples can be seen. They look like Loanah people, but the clothes and buildings are all wrong, and it’s one island.

Your vision blurs and you fly high, high, high up into the sky. And that’s when you see it. The dragon. Rayquaza.

There’s movement and confusion, like you’re seeing someone else’s point of view and they’re fighting, but there’s a little of what you can see. The Rayquaza summoned a massive swarm of meteors. Fiery death is coming down.

Your vision blurs to something incomprehensible. Time skips, and you can see the continent now. Except it’s no longer a continent. It’s a series of islands. It’s Loanah. The scars of horrible destruction fade with time, but the once united landmass was so devastated and the civilization and pokemon so destroyed, that things changed forever.

You’re returned back to the cooking space. The pokemon deity stares into your eyes. Everything you saw was true, but it’s not the truth.

“I don’t know what that means.”

You will. Just keep your promise and don’t let them put me to rest yet.

It starts to fade away.

So Rayquaza nuked old Loanah in order to stop... something. There was fighting involved, possibly with other legends.

And it's all but begging us to keep them from putting it to rest.

Interesting. Doubtless it thought there was a good reason to do so, but clearly somebody (possibly the priesthood) knows about what happened and somehow holds sway over it in some capacity, and wants to keep it sealed/bound/something because of what happened in the past.

It's probably bound because it nuked the old world. Whatever was going on, what Rayquaza did was enough to end it, so it was probably magnitudes beyond what was going on at the time.

People probably didn't know why Rayquaza did it, only that it did, and they bound it out of fear that would do so again. Time has passed since the event, so people are unlikely to ever uncover the truth of what happened.

If the people responsible for keeping the seal found out Rayquaza could communicate with us, they might reinforce it and further limit its actions.

What if Rayquaza didn't summon the meteors but was trying to save everything from them
