Welcome one and all to Kobold Civ Quest. Ran something like this years ago on /tg/ and, [s]with nothing better to do[/s] because I like you guys so much, I decided to give this another shot on /qst/.

Real fucking simple premise here; You're a group of Kobolds that just recently got your shit kicked in by some other assholes that we'll determine later on, and your whole goal is to find a new place to settle down, recoup your losses, and seek revenge!

Or, you know, end up dying.

Now as is apparently common on this board, I went and set up a twitter for you fucks in case ya'll got questions or if you wanna' check up on the progress of when I'll be postin' again.

Twitter: https://twitter.com/QM_Brush

Dice rolls will be as such.
d10's, or multiples of them, for every basic task and such, and we'll be using Best of 5 because I'm super generous.
d100's will be used for random events and encounters. They can range from finding magical berries to coming across Kobold eating Owls.

So without further ado, let's kick it!

Dawn of the 1st day

Tired doesn't even begin to describe how the roaming band of scaled little vagabonds feel at the moment. With their tails dragging against the dirt and their backs weighed down with what little possessions they had left, the Kobolds roamed in a single file line through the thick forest, leaving behind what was once their home.

At the head of the group was a taller Kobold, a whopping 4 and a half feet tall! A giant by their standards. The small wings upon his back let the others know that he was indeed blessed by the dragons, that or he was just a lucky bastard who liked to rub it in everyone's faces.

Still, this winged one was their leader, or rather he was their new leader. The previous one was either being skinned in to become a pair of very tight fitting boots, or to be mounted on some wall. They weren't sure which was worst yet.

Still, their new leader had been the one to get some of them out of the possible genocide that had befallen them recently, and his name was...

Khumgrin Rockbluff!

Writing.
>>
>>1174182

Ah yes, Khumgrin Rockbluff was his name. It was an old one, not used since the days in which the dragons blocked out the sun with their wings, their numbers many. Some of the older Kobolds had always expressed their liking of the name, but some of the younger ones laughed and snickered because of it's similar pronunciation to a dirty human phrase about excitable men and women.

Idiots.

Khumgrin stabbed his spear into the ground, a wooden shaft with a stone spear tip that was just as tall as he. Giving a quick bark, the line of Kobolds eased into a stop.

"Awright you scaley fucks, let's take us a rest and get our bearings." Khumgrin flared his nostrils in what he assumed was an intimidating way. Really it just looked like he had the sniffles.

The line of Kobolds let out little murmurs of thanks, falling back onto their tail ends and letting out a large chorus of sighs. Some took out their pipes to ease their nerves, while others prayed to the mighty dragons above to give them safe journey.

Khumgrin looked at all of them and felt a pang of anger, anger for having his people forced out of their homes, nearly all of them slaughtered. Mothers and hatchlings screams still filled his head. He'd have his revenge on the...

>Dwarves: The Kobolds previous home had been in the side of a mountain, which just so happened to be the home of some Dwarves on the other side. One day the Dwarves, while digging their way through in search of diamonds and jewels, came across the Kobolds and immediately set upon them, their minds driven mad by Diamond Lust.
>Humans: The Kobolds previous home had been in the woods, close by the river. A group of humans from a newly developed town just down the way had set upon their home at night, all because the spot was a perfect place to set up a lumber mill.

Looks like Humans are our mortal enemies.

I'll give it another 10 minutes on the off chance we get more people. And so I can make me some hot pockets.
>>
>>1174337

...Humans. Khumgrin spat on the ground from just thinking about those vile, scaleless pieces of trash. They killed so many of his people and had taken his home, and for what? Wood, fucking wood!

His claws dug deep into the boulder he was sitting on, enough to leave some pretty fierce looking holes in it. But Khumgrin would do so much worse to those filthy fucking monkeys, that was for damn sure.

"Awright, let's move it out!" Khumgrin shouted, shaking the others out of their own little worlds and back into the harsh reality of being without a home. They trekked further into the forest, which at one point started to rise up, making the line of Kobolds have to now travel up an incline. Still Khumgrin felt as if this was the right way, as if the blood of his ancestors were forcing him further and further along, giving him the strength to lead his people. That or it was just plain stubbornness, who could tell.

Finally after what felt like hours of constant walking, salvation was thrust onto them at last. The forest parted, letting Khumgrin and the others see that they were standing on the edge of a large plateau, which overlooked a large valley that seemed to contained various biomes, many of which would make wonderful new homes for the Kobolds, but a few stuck out in particular.

>Swamp: A dark, dank, and humid looking area filled with mud, small rivers and sad looking trees. Downright beautiful really.
>Open Plain: A large open plain surrounded by thick trees, the center of the plain rising up a good thirty of so feet above the rest. By the looks of the tall grass it was a windy area.
>Cave: A harsh looking area with plenty of jutting rocks among the grass and flora. In the middle of it looked to be a huge cave, spiky rocks all around it and by the looks of it, only one entrance.
(fyi, none of these choices have any consequences or boons, yet.)
>>
Gonna' take a little break for now. If ya'll have any other ideas for new homes for the Kobolds, go ahead and throw'em out there, if majority likes it I'll run with it.

we will still have the cozyness of the caves and we can ridle this swamp with traps, the biggest selling point is that humans usually don't show interest in swamps
>>
>>1175455
swamps are usually dangerous and hard to wander themselves, I'd say a good idea would be to first find a good place to hide at close to the middle of the swamp while watching out for the bad stuff, then start making it good.

>Cave+Swamp Combo!

Khumgrin's eyes settle on the large cave opening for a few moments. That would be an ideal place of protection for his people, with only one entrance there could be a choke point for them to quickly dispatch their enemies.

But the scaled ones eyes travel over to the swamp, licking his lips at the thought of a nice, murky and warm environment for his cold blooded self.

Khumgrin scratched his head, racking his brain with trying to decide, when his eyes settled on a piece of land between the two biomes.

It was another cave, smaller than the big and spiky one, but farther into the swampy region as well. The outside looked to be covered in moss, and even more importantly it didn't look like the swamp water was pouring into it either, which meant it would be dry.

A small grin played at Khumgrins lips. He had found their new home. Turning to face the rest of his people, Khumgrin held his spear up eye, letting out a loud and screeching bark of triumph. "AWWW YEAH! You scaley fucks ready to have a new home!?"

A small murmur of agreement and bored looks was all Khumgrin got in return for his amazing speech. Ungrateful assholes.

===

It took about an hours trek to reach the cave, but once inside the others were instantly grateful. It was a muggy sort of warm inside, but the ground at their feet was nice and dry. What's more there were patches of moss growing everywhere, perfect bedding for a tired group.

As everyone started to set up and get comfortable, Khumgrin traveled down a branching shaft, plenty of room to stand and wave his arms about, until he found himself inside a decent sized circular room, about twenty feet in diameter. In the middle stood a large triangular piece of stone, jutting from the ground. Khumgrin placed his claws upon it, a fine table for the beginning of his war counsel, which would soon see those fucking humans dead and buried beneath their precious wood.

Speaking of War Counsel, Khumgrin decided it was time to call in his most trusted advisers...

(Pick 3)
>Vik Stronglash: Another of your people blessed by the dragons, though instead of wings he was given a fearsome set of fangs, which he liked to show off constantly. You chose him for his brutality and his thirst for revenge, he had lost three children and a mother when the humans attacked, leaving only him and his wife to mourn.
>Von Keenbelly: Probably the fattest Kobold you ever knew, but what he lacked in skinny he made up for in his knowledge of alchemy, potions, and poisons. He's never been the most enthusiastic of Kobolds, but the attack from the humans left him shaken and constantly worried of another possible genocide.
>Snas Foghunter: To be honest Snas might already be in the room with you right now, she's probably the best hunter of your group, and no one knows how to hide in the shadows quite like her. She was away on a hunt when the humans attacked, and blames herself for the whole thing.

>Gex Ashbelly: You're not really sure where Gex picked it up, but the brightly colorful Kobold was able to do quite a bit of magic. Nothing too crazy, mostly just illusions and glamours, but he did know how to produce fire. Or she did. Or maybe not. You're not exactly sure what Gex is, as they give a direct answer when asked. Still, it was because of Gex's illusions that any of you even made it out of the onslaught alive.
>Tix Steelsnout: Looking at your finely crafted spear, you can't help but feel Tix would be a good choice. She's the best of her craft, able to forge weapons and tools from seemingly anything. Not to mention her hips be cray cray. Her father, one of the oldest of the tribe and the one who had supplied many of you with weapons and clothing, was killed during the onslaught.
>Stubs Longtail: By the dragons why are you even considering this? Stubbs is either the most unlucky or luckiest Kobold in history, you can't be for sure. On the one hand he's found himself out of loads of precarious situations, no matter how dangerous, on the other his tail suffers for it each time. By now the thing can barely even be called a tail. Poor guy won't be swoonin' any ladies with that short thing. Not like your long, thick one.

Let the harem building commence

Snas is the first one to come to mind, she's always been the most upfront with Khumgrin, to the point where it seems like she insults him. "Sna-"

"Yeah boss?" Khumgrin lets out a little yelp, whirling around to see Snas' dark and scaley hide already sitting cross legged on the large stone. He's not entirely sure when she showed up, but the small grin playing at her lips tells Khumgrin she's been there a while.

"Right, so I'm buildin' a war counsel..." Khumgrin begins to explain his plans to Snas, who just nods her head along with it. Her eyes sort of turn firey when mention of getting revenge is brought up, and Khumgrin can tell he's already got her hooked.

"Sounds like a great plan chief." Khumgrin lets out another yelp, whipping around to see Tix and Gex standing there, Gex's pearly white fangs smiling back at you, the androgynous Kobold clearly happy with how much they just spooked you.

For her part, Tix is more concerned with looking over the stone table, muttering to herself about improvements and something about a trap door. Her many pieces of metalic piercings jingle with each step.

"Okay, so as long as there's no one else planning to sneak up on me," Khumgrin whirls around quickly, just to make sure nobody else plans on walking in. "I think it's safe to say we can finally get this war counsel underway. I've chosen you three because you're my most trusted advisers."

"And because nobody else can stand being around you for more than five minutes." Snas comments, earning a loud "HAH" from Tix before she goes back to examining the table.

For his part, Khumgrin just repeats what Snas said but in a more nastily tone. "I'll need you three to give input from time to time, pointing out things I could've missed, better approaches to problems, and also because I'm surrounded by three beautiful women." Khumgrin pauses, looking to wards Gex to get a read on him, or her, but the color Kobold merely smiles in response. "...So, first things first,"

Khumgrin suddenly falls to his knees, hands raking through his scaled head. "HOW THE HELL ARE WE GONNA' SURVIVE?!"

And we'll end it there for tonight. Hope ya'll had some fun, don't be afraid to give brutal input or ask for things you'd like to see in this quest.

ok guys, Tix will be on trap detail, setting up defences for anyone that can arrive, if she is capable I would like to know the possibility of building secondary tunnels for secret passages, Gex will help hide Tix's traps and research a more permanet ilusion to try to hide our lair. while snas scouts the swamp so we can get a better picture of the neighborhood, things like, possible threats, possible targets, food and resourses.

(switching to a second person perspective because it's easier to write.)

You aren't really sure what the hell your doing anymore, just a few days ago you were just another Kobold, albeit one with wings and a devilishly good looking tail, then the humans attacked, slaughtered a good chunk of the tribe, and now you find yourself in the position of leader.

"WHAT ARE WE GONNA' DO-*smeck*" Snas' sharp slap across your face stops you from panicking any further, and you can tell that she's not happy one bit with you, while Tix and Gex look like they'd rather be anywhere but here at the moment. "...Sorry." You mumble out, standing back on your legs and looking at them with the most embarrassed look you can manage.

Snas lets out a sigh, shaking her head in disappointment probably. "It's fine Khumgrin, we all know this is something new for you."

"Could act a bit more dignified though." Tix mumbles, catching a glare from Snas. "Just saying."

Snas takes a deep breath, trying to calm herself and figure out the situation. Gods, she should be the one leading what's left of the tribe, not you. "Alright," She starts, eyes now burning with determination. "Here's what we're gonna' do. Tix, start setting out traps in the surrounding area, and see about digging deeper into this cave. I don't like how open it feels."

Tix gives a small nod, scurrying out of the war room as she does.

Snas points at Gex. "And you," For some reason there's some animosity to her voice, and looking at Gex you can tell that the smile on their face is forced. "Use that magic to help Tix hide her traps, maybe work on something to make our cave concealed."

Gex gives a long, mocking boy. "Of course m'lady." There's a sneer on their face as they exit the war room as well, shoulders bumping against Snas'.

"And you," She finally turns to wards you, her face more relaxed. "You're coming with me."

Snas starts to exit the room, and you've really got no other choice than to follow close behind. "Wait, where are we going?"

She smiles, sharp fangs glinting even in the darkness. "Hunting."

With swampy, muddy water up to your waist and the muggy warm air everywhere, you're beginning to really enjoy your choice for a new home. Ahead of you Snas is less walking and more swimming through the water, moving from side to side like a snake.

She hasn't spoken since the two of you exited the cave, and you can't help but feel like something should be said about what happened back there.

For one, you completely broke down in front of her, and Tix and Gex. It was very unbecoming of a leader, and it must've drove Snas' mad with how weak willed you were.

Then there was that whole thing between her and Gex. Was there history between those two you didn't know about?

You frown. No, you need to be the Kobold that your people need right now. And that Kobold owns up to his mistakes. Splashing forward through the water, you put yourself right at her by her side, her sharp eyes peering at you for a moment before focusing back in front of her.

>>1181037
The dark, moonlit sky above you seems to want to take a piss on your tonight, the small gray clouds from earlier now turning darker, nearly black, as rainfall begins to descend upon you.

"Aw fuck." You cover your head with one hand, looking down at Snas and noticing that the rain isn't even bothering her. What a bad ass. "Look, Snas," You start, her eyes peering at you again. "I'm sorry for what happened back there. That isn't hot a leader should act."

"No, it isn't." She replies, her voice doesn't betray at all how she's feeling, though you can see a small lift on her lips, maybe a smile?

Taking that maybe smile and running with it, you puff out your chest and give it a quick. "That's right, a leader should, uh, lead his people. So follow me to glory and, uh, other stu-OW SHIT!"

You hop up and down in the water, your foot feeling like it just stepped on a fucking small, colorful toy brick that Tix is always building and leaving lying around. Hopping your way over to a bit of land, you drag yourself onto a log, out of the water, and examine just what the fuck stabbed you.

Pulling the object from your scaley foot, you notice that it's a ring, with a decorative rams head on the front of it. It looks like it's made of iron. The most surprising thing about it is how warm it feels, much warmer than it should be.

Snas looks at it with her piercing eyes, trying to determine exactly how dangerous the ring could be. "I've no clue what that could be."

"Well, I'm not hunter expert, but I think it's a ring Snas." That earns you a pair of rolled eyes. You look over the ring, twisting it around with your fingers. It looks like it would fit your index finger perfectly...

You stop, shaking your head and instead stuffing the ring in one of your pockets. You've no idea what the ring is, but you get the distinct sense that it's not entirely normal.

Snas gives you an approving nod, happy to see you aren't as impulsive as you used to be growing up. "Good idea, no telling what that thing does."

"Yeah, better just wait and let Gex have a...look." You gulp, Snas' eyes looking like fire for a moment at the mention of Gex before she goes back to swimming. You follow silently beside her.

Soon you both come across what looks like any other tree from the swamp, only this one is glowing a soft blue. Not to mention the closer you get to it, the more rejuvenated you feel. In fact, your foot doesn't even hurt anymore, when just seconds ago it was still stinging from that damn ring.

"It's a Feywood." Snas whispers in eye, her eyes reflecting the glow of the tree.

"A what?" You ask, wishing you had paid more attention to these things growing up. Still if this were an rpg about your awesome life, at least you'd be the guy to ask questions and get exposition for the players.

"Feywood. They're trees that have been chosen by fairies as their final resting place. They give off a small healing aura, nothing major, but it still makes you feel better than before you came across it."

"That. It. Does." Says a salty voice from behind you.

You're not really sure what you're looking at here. It looks like a cross between a long legged spider and a crab, some sort of...Crabider! Spad? Whatever, it's freaky.

The fact that the spider crab is nearly ten feet tall isn't calming either.

The crustacean tilts its head, clicking its mandibles a bit and...smiling? Yeah smiling, the thing is smiling at you and Snas. Those pincers of his seems to be clicking excitedly for some reason.

"Well well well, a couple of delicious lookin' lizards just crawlin' up in my neck of the woods? How lucky am I?" Those long limbs scuttle and skitter, the huge spider crab moving around the two of you and circling you like a tasty dish. "Now how should I go about this? Suppose I could start with the tails, they always grow back and mmm, mmm, MMM, are they tasty when roasted."

"Khum," Snas whispers, her eyes never leaving the spider crab as it goes on and on about how it's going to eat them. "We need to do something while he's distracted."

"You think we could make a break for it?" you whisper back, not liking how sharp those spike like limbs of his look.

Alright B wins.

Now here's how attacking works. You'll be rolling 3d6's, best of 3 (I know i said best of 5 but there doesn't seem to be that many people, and it really is too generous.). The first row will be your attack with the spear, the two after that will be Snas' with her dual daggers.

The DC for this is 13.
The DC to hit you is 10, would normally be 13 as well but your up to your waist in water.
DC to hit Snas is 13, would normally be 16.

Alright so roll me 3d6, best of 3.

>Khumgrin: Fail
>Snas: Fail
>Spider Crab: HOLY SHIT WHAT ARE YOU DOING?

You give Snas a quick nod, reaching behind your back and grabbing your spear, at the same time you Snas sink into the waters, disappearing like a ghost.

Turning your attention back to the Spider Crab, you point the sharp end of your weapon at him, giving him your best menacing glare. "The only one who's gonna' be dining tonight is us buddy!"

He stops his rambling, blinking down at you. "Why? I mean don't get me wrong, you look a little stringy, but I ain't about to turn down a free meal."

"I-no that's not what I meant, I mean we're gonna' gank ya'." You thrust your spear forward, going for Spider Crabs mouth. Almost immediately though your spear is caught by one of those long as pincers, cracking the wood in its grip as he stares down at you. "Uh oh."

Before either of you have time to act, Snas burst from the water right behind Spider Crab, her dual daggers trailing down in an arc as she stabs at the crustaceans shell.

Sadly they bounce off harmlessly, the shell too thick for the blades.

"Alright, I like playing with my food as much as the next crab-"

"SO HE IS A CRAB!"

"...But I think it's time to end this little game." He raises one of his pincers up, and you close your eyes in anticipation of your demise. Instead all you hear is disgruntled noises and the shaking of leaves. Opening your eyes you can see that the Spider Crab got his limb tangled up in the vines of the tree, how fortunate for you!

The beast is struggling to get free, his grip on your spear loosened a little, and Snas is readying herself to follow your lead.

>A. Attack again while he's tangled up! (DC is 10)
>B. Book it! (DC is also 10)
>C. Write in (Will decide DC after a bit)

Your weapon is broken and his armor is tough af, I don't see attacking it as an option really. So we could either book it or tie it up with even more vines. If we straight up book it he could just snibbity snab the vine and charge us but tying a huge ass crab up is difficult. Not really sure what to do honestly. So...

"Snas, hit 'em again while he's tangled up!" You yank back as hard as you can, pulling your spear free of the Spider Crab's grip.

Just as he manages to get his pincer free from the vines, Snas strikes. Her first blade digs deep into one of the beasts leg joints, causing him to let out a bellow of pain as he begins to falter. The second blade is stopped though, by the crustaceans pincers. They have the blade in a vice like grip, but that doesn't matter to you.

You think of the past few days, how your people had been massacred, how the humans who did it didn't even care, how you had to leave your home, how you've been letting everyone down!

"RRRAAARGH!" You scream as loud as you can, your wings flaring out behind you and lifting you from the waters as they flip, you use the inertia to drive your spear head right into the crabs mouth, its eyes widening in surprise.

But you don't stop there, with some primordial force guiding you, you keep pressing, the wood on the shaft nearly giving before you hear a satisfying crack as your spear head punctures out the other end.

The spider crab is still for a moment, and then death takes him over, his massive body falling to the swamp waters below, floating lifelessly.

"Hah, hah, hah. Yeah, YEAH!" You let out a roar, not a bark, not a scream, a ROAR! You did this, you!

Still high off of the adrenaline of killing such a large creature, you turn to Snas, who's staring at you like she's actually seeing you for the first time.

>>

You grin at her, crossing your arms and turning your snout up in the air. "Told ya' I'd lead you to glory." Gods you feel great right now.

Snas rolls her eyes but still smiles at you in a warm way, even as she pulls her blade out of the crabs body. "That you did. Certainly are different from the shaky Kobold that couldn't handle responsibility an hour ago."

"Aw, you know what they say, 'bout killing crabs and gaining confidence or something. Whatever, you know what I mean." You put out your fist, waiting for a return bump, but all you get is a quick slap on the back of your hand from her tail. "Yeow!"

"Don't get cocky, if that thing hadn't been tangled up we would've been his dinner." She pauses, staring carcass for a bit before she starts pushing it back to wards camp. "C'mon and help me push this thing. It's a waste of good meat if we leave it here, and I bet Tix could come up with something special with that hard carapace it has."

You hop in beside her, your more muscular frame easily pushing the floating dead body of your enemy. "Definitely gonna' need her to fix my spear."

"I've been thinking about that. You don't have to keep using a spear, you could probably learn to use other weapons if you really tried."

You ponder on that, it would be cool if you knew how to handle a blade like Snas did, or how to smash a club like Vik. Food for thought. For now, you had a crab to transport.

Some questions for ya'll before I run again tonight.

1. Do you like the d6 method of rolling or would you prefer to just use the normal d20 method for DC's? I noticed that the combat with the crab was more difficult than anticipated.

2. This hasn't really been your typical Civ quest and seems to have gone more character specific. Would you like to stick to this route with just some added resource management and named characters(think Evil Sorceress Quest) or go more typical Civ route.

3. What do you guys think I need to work on the most from what you've seen me post?
>>
>>1188727

1- 3d6 is the gurps given system of rolling, thus infalible and superior to all else, keep it.

2- The caracter worked out fine, I think you can keep it, so we would have to balance settlement management and personal ambitions

3- I like the humor and the style, it's entertaining, keep us posted when you arrive and when you have to go so we don't keep waiting for you. you're doing good.

Night of the 1st day[/spoiler]

Who would've thought trying to pull a huge ass spider crab corpse back to camp would be such a hassle? You grunt and you pull as hard as your little arms will let you, the swamp water probably being the only thing letting you even move at the crawling pace you're going at right now.

Because Snas' fat ass sitting on top of the damn thing sure ain't helping!

"HEY!" You shout, nearly out of breath as you look up for the umpteenth time and see your companion sitting cross legged, those hunter eyes of hers scanning the horizon. "You maybe wanna' hop down here and give me a hand?"

"No." She responds matter of factly, nearly causing your blood vessels to pop. "Besides, one of us should be keeping a look out in case any more of these things show up."

"Well, I can keep a look out ya' know?" You retort. "I'm great at noticing things!"

"You stepped on a pebble size ring in the middle of a swamp." She grins back.

"I FOUND a pebble size ring in the middle of a swamp. Found. Big difference." All that gets you is a small grin before Snas goes back to being lookout, and you go back to being a pack mule. You were pretty sure most leaders didn't carry their people around on giant crabs through boggy swamps, but then again you weren't most leaders.

You were Khumgrin, a Kobold out on a mission to help your people recoup after a heavy loss dealt to you by a bunch of greedy humans. Your numbers aren't much, but after finding a new home in the form of a cave on the swamp, you're making progress. And hey, this is still only the first day! Things are bound to pick up!

Right?
===

It's another hour before you finally make it back to the cave, which you still haven't named yet, and you spot Tix and Gex sitting up in a leafless decrepit old tree. Once they spot you they give a quick wave, and thankfully Snas finally gets her fat butt off the crab and starts helping.

"Hey!" Tix calls out, all the pieces of metal shaking so loud you could hear it even from where you were standing. "Follow the yellow mushrooms and you'll avoid the traps!"

You blink, finally taking notice of all the brightly colored yellow mushrooms that seemingly make a path back to the cave. Reaching out, you find that the mushrooms aren't even real, and sort of wiggle and waggle out of existence before appearing back again. Must be Gex's magic at work.

Wow that's a lot of red.
=====

Once inside the cave you and Snas are pelted by questions and praises. Vix wants to know if there are any more of these crabs walking around the swamp, he's anxious to get his teeth bloody.

Von, the fat coward that he is, stands behind a couple of other Kobolds before looking over the crab with worry. He's more concerned about these things showing up at the cave and killing them one by one.

And then the rest of them are throwing so many questions at you you're sure your head will spin. What's out there? What did you see? What happened to your spear? When's dinner?

"Awright enough!" You shout, making everyone shut up long enough for you to finally speak. "No, we didn't see any more of these crab things out there, we did however come across a Feywood." That earns you some impressed murmurs, and Gex looks like their tongue might start hanging out at just the mention of untapped magic. "Also," You start up again, everyone's eyes focused on you. "...I'm really hungry. LET'S EAT!"

Soon blankets are rolled out and everyone's getting our their plates. Von rolls his ol' black cauldron into the middle of the cave where Gex lights a couple logs underneath it with their magic. You always did like cooking with Von's cauldron, it always made things taste a little purplish.

With the water boiling and the crab meat cooking, you take the moment to sit back, away from the rest of the crowd and relax.

Well, you were planning on doing that until Vix stomps his way over to you. "Hey." His sharp, dragon like fangs glisten a bit, his lips pulled back in what you think is a friendly smile. Or a snarl. You can never tell. "So, been meaning to talk to ya'."

"About?" You ask, sitting up straighter as you eye the only other blessed Kobold in your group.

"Humans." He says it like there's poison on his tongue, spitting onto the ground and shaking his whole body in disgust. "What we gonna' do 'bout them?"

"Get revenge on those fuckers that's what." You reply earnestly, already feeling your blood start to boil at the thought of those pale skinned fucks. "That whole town's gonna' burn, trust me."

"Yeah," Vix grins, his own eyes burning with passion and...maybe a bit of madness. "But I was thinking. Sure we can kill those bastards, render flesh from bone and all that good stuff, but why stop there? Why not...why not KILL'EM ALL!"

Those last words he shouts a bit, causing a few of the Kobolds to turn and look at the two of you. To be honest you hadn't really put much thought into this. You knew you wanted revenge on those who had hurt your tribe, that was a given, but to go after an entire race?

You frown. You want to tell Vik that warring against every single scaleless ape they come across is pointless, but you can tell by that mad look in his eyes that telling him so would only anger him. You decide to be diplomatic, answering him without really answering him. "We'll rend and sunder those that hurt us Vix, I promise you that, but before we can consider going any further we have to be prepared." You can tell he wants to argue with you, his eye twitching a bit that honestly grosses you out, but you stay strong and place a hand on his shoulder. "We're barely twenty strong and in a land we barely know, we need to get the ground beneath our feet before we consider stomping on some humans."

Vix looks anguished, but nods his head slowly in response. "I...yes Khum, I understand."

"Vik, dear?"

Both you and Vik turn your heads at the small, quiet voice, who it turns out belongs to Vik's smallish wife Fickie. She's got the look of a Kobold that could be scared by a mouse, and you don't really blame her. So many of her hatchlings had been slaughtered in the attack, it left the poor thing a wreck.

"Oh dear, I'm sorry," Using kindness you didn't really know he had, Vik moves over to his wife, and the only remaining egg they both had left in her hands, and gently places his arm around her shoulders. "I left you all alone again didn't I, that was mean of me."

She nods, eyes still darting this way and that as she clutches the egg even tighter. "Yes, I was alone, there were others around me but I was alone, and the egg was with me but I was alone."

Giving you a small look of apology, Vik takes his wife and gently leads her back to the food. You sigh, you really don't think you're going to get used to this. Leadership, people who were scared of their own shadows? It was almost too much.

*gurgle*

Of course maybe some crab meat could calm you down.

cont.
>>
>>1190101

Taking a seat at the leaders end of the long blanket, you find a plate of boiled crab meat and assorted veggies and bugs placed right in front of you, and Gex soon joins you at your side. They smile at you, already digging into a huge chunk of crab meat which they quickly follow with a nice juicy worm. "Thanks...ma'am?" You reply, eyeing Gex and waiting for any tell tale signs of whether they give away their gender. But again, like always, all you get is a small smirk. "Bah. I'll get it out of you one of these days."

"But not tonight." They joke. For a small while the two of you sit in silence, enjoying a hot meal and the return of normal dinner chatter. "So, Snas tells me you...came across a ring?" You can tell that they're wanting to laugh a bit, no doubt Snas told them how you 'came across' the damn thing.

Reaching into your pocket you pull out the decorative ring, still warm to the touch. "Found it right in the middle of the swamp, damn thing gives off some heat."

Gex eyes the ring, running their fingers in a circle over it while muttering some words. Their eyes glow a tiny bit before returning to normal. "Well, good news is that it's not cursed."

"What's the bad news." You ask.

"It's got a limited amount of charges. I'm not 100% sure what it does, but I get the feeling it's powerful, and simple at the same time." They toss the ring back to you and chomps down on some more crab. "Best guess? Put it on, aim it at something, and shout really loud. That usually works."

You eye the wring, the decorative ram head almost staring back at you. "Thanks." Why does it feel...hotter than before?
===
After the meal you find yourself back in the war room with your counsel. Gex, Tix, and Snas are all positioned at the triangular table, which Tix seems to have carved a bit to make the edges have...mug holders? Whatever. You face your trio of advisers, belly full and mind somewhat calmed. "Alright, so what do we got?"

Tix goes first, pulling out a large piece of parchment and rolling it open onto the table. "You asked me to get a look at digging some more tunnels, and from what I've seen it wouldn't be that hard to dig in, but if we want to dig down some I'm going to need better materials to build better tools. We could probably get some stone materials from the caves nearby, not to mention some other minerals if we come across them."

Gex steps forward, placing their hands on the table and looking at you from across it. "Me and Snas have been...talking," They push that word out like it's a piece of dirt. "And while that crab was a good meal, we need to find more sustainable food source. We've only got enough to last us 10 days before we run out."

You nod, plenty of stuff to do that's for sure. Then Snas pipes up. "Also, and this is just a thought, but you really should think about training with a new weapon, or at least improve on your spear work. That crab carapace would make a perfect weapon if Tix messed around with it."
cont.
>>
>>1190166
(Sorry for the long ass posts, exposition is a bitch)

So, here's what needs to be done.

>Tix can dig into the dirt and form more horizontal tunnels easily, but if you want to dig down she'll need better materials. You'll have to go over to the caves to find this stuff.

>Snas and Gex says we need a reliable food source or else we all starve.

>Snas wants you to train in the use of a new weapon, or improve on what you already know with the spear.

Which do you guys wanna' roll and go over first?
>>
>>1190176

oK, I say Tix can work on a shield and blade wih the carapace for us, after that she can look on making some secondary tunnels so we can move and ambush anything that enters our cave.

gex shoul research the local fauna to find anything edible we can make a farm out off

Snas continue scounting the neighborhood to find food sources or threats

and we train with Vik with o new equipment or with our broken spear if they are not ready in time(on spar sessions)
>>
>>1190176
I think it's better to start a food source now then later. Considering we're in a swamp-cave, we don't have much in the way of fertile land, so farming is out of the question. The next best option is probably the water. If we can get a fishing setup going, we'd have a source of food for a little while off of fish.
>>
>>1190249
>>1190217
Ya'll think about this, I gotta' go get cook some stuffed bell peppers so, maybe like thirty minutes I'll be ready to post uninterrupted.
>>
>>1190166
>>Snas and Gex says we need a reliable food source or else we all starve.
>>
>>1190249

so what do you think about keeping the others and making gex look into some kind of fish we can enclosure and feed on?
>>
>>1190176
Fishing seems to be the only real sustainable food source I can think of. We aren't fruit eating pansies so that's out of the question, and we aren't numerous or well armed enough to send out hunting parties. Tunnels seem a bit useless due to our low pop, a bad roll could make us run into skaven too. That'd suck. We can cheese weapon training in with fishing and improve our aim by spear fishing. Will help to improve our spear skills, overall combat abilities and gain us some food in the process
>>
>>1190305
Sounds good to me. Have Gex lead Operation: Fish Husbandry, and give them a laborer or two to help with constructing an enclosure. Meanwhile, we could look into getting the stone materials for digging. Send Tix and one or two laborers (and maybe another kobold that's armed, just in case of big baddies). Vik, Snas, us, and the rest of the kobolds stay and either work on digging in or scouting the area of our swamp-cave. That sound like a good plan?
>>
>>1190326

yuuup, but we should leave scouting to snas and focus on weapon training with vik, and helping outon anything we can in between sessions
>>
>>1190332

I can get down with that. Like >>1190315 said, skaven will be an issue when digging, so weapons training will be our priority for the people not doing the enclosure or hunting for materials.
>>
I guess priorities must be
Food>armor>dig
>>
Okay, so it sounds like fishing and building an enclosure is top priority, and we're sticking with using a spear too. I can swing it so we can gain some training while using the spear to fish with like >>1190315 said. And we'll send Tix off with two laborers and an armed Kobold to get minerals from the caves.

That sound good? Also my bell peppers are the fucking bomb.

Alrighty, writing.
>>
>>1190176

You rub your chin as you try to come up with an idea so that your people don't starve to death. You could always try and forage for fruit, but considering your Kobolds and not a bunch of pansies you quickly toss that idea aside. You could try and form some hunting parties, but with so few of you actually trained in combat you'd probably come out of that worse than before.

Then you get a wonderful idea. "Fishing."

"Fishing?" Your advisers reply back.

"Yeah, fishing. We're next to a big ol' swamp, there's gotta' be loads of catfish and prawns just swimming and crawling about all over the place."

Snas nods in agreement, while Tix begins sketching a few things down on the parchment. "Yes yes yes, and if we could net a few of them we could build an enclosure closer to the cave, we'd have an actual fishery right next door."

"How long would that take you to build up Tix?"

She does a few calculations in her head while you wait, pointing and dragging away imaginary figures that you just can't comprehend. "About two days, as long as you don't go over twenty fish that is. Any bigger and I'd have to set aside a couple more days."

"Start with twenty fish for right now, we're not a huge tribe to begin with. At the same time I want you to take two laborers with you and somebody who can handle a weapon and explore those caves. We need better resources."

"So who do you want to send with Tix? We've got Vik, but then again any of the other Kobolds could hold a club. Though they probably wouldn't be as skilled."

You think, who do you send with Tix to scope out the caves?

>Vik: He's competent, lookin' for a fight, and swings a mean club.
>Random Kobol: Not as good as Vik.

Note that if you have Vik go with Tix you won't be able to train with him.

Train with Snas instead
>>
>>1190527
Yeah I'd rather keep Tix alive than have us be able to stab slightly better
>Send Vik with Tix
>>
>>1190527

I'd argue the safety of Tix is the priority here. Then again, that would drive his wife mad with worry. I still think it's worth the risk, though: Take Vik with Tix, and have our resident alchemist fashion something up to calm Vik's wife if possible. Our training can come later; we can train some other kobolds who aren't as good with a weapon.
>>
>>1190570
Well, going with Snas and fishing will be most of your training over the next week since it looks like ya'll are having Vik go along with Tix every day to explore the caves. The bonus you get for that won't be as good if you had had Vik train with you, but it's still a bonus.

>Tix: 6+5+4=15
>Vik: 6+5+1+4=16

You decide to send Vik out along with Tix. You know that Fickie is going to be worried sick because of this, so you have Gex and Von give her some calming ointments and relaxation spells to help ease her mind. It barely works.

On the first day of exploring the caves, Tix and Vik come across a large iron deposit just a stones throw away into the cave. The party of Kobolds set up some torches and begin collecting as much as they can, Vik working as lookout and guardian in case they run into trouble.

And boy do they....
===
(You are Vik)

You hold the stone club out in front of you, the weight of it feeling good in your claws. Behind you you can hear Tix and her helpers collecting the iron ore, a real boon considering most of your tribe are barely using anything that isn't wood or bone as a weapon.

All thanks to those fucking humans. Your grip on the club tightens, your eyes going blood red for a moment as you remember the dead corpse of your mother, the smashed eggs, Fickie's crying form.

tcktcktcktck

You blink, shaking yourself out of your rage induced daydream, and perk your ears up. You just heard something. "Tix," You call out in a warning tone, causing her and the other two to stop their digging. "Head for the entrance."

tcktcktcktcktcktcktc-

Your eyes widen as you move to the side, barely given' a seconds breath before the ground where you were standing explodes as something slams down into it. Rolling away before standing back up, you look upon the creature in front of you.

"Fuck." It's a centipede. A BIG centipede. Probably 7ft long and with a pair of mandibles that look very unpleasant.

You grin, your own sharp rows of fangs glinting in the firelight. "And here I thought I'd be bored out of my mind."

The centipede waves back in forth, it's upper half raised up almost like a cobra ready to strike. You can see its eyes moving back and forth between you and the others, debating on which would be the easier prey.

>A. Attack the centipede
>B. Try to be a distraction for Tix and the others to run.
>C. Write-in
Note: Vik can not run, he's blood thirsty and a bit suicidal.

Now for this guys attack. Remember, Vik has a DC of 15
>>
>>1190706
Vik: Three successive rolls.
Centipede: Fail

You snarl at the centipede, lunging forward and bouncing off your feet into, your club raised high above your head.

The giant bug's attention was focused on the retreating Kobolds, it didn't catch your fast strike before it was too late. With a loud crunch you cave in part of the beasts head, gooey green liquid seeping out from the cracks as it whirls back, letting out a loud screech as it writhes around on the floor.

But you don't stop, as soon as you land on your feet you strike again, crushing a multitude of legs with a swing of your club. The centipede tries to strike out, it's back end flicking like a whip, but you're too fast, too prepared, too in the zone! You duck and weave, each time the beast misses an attack you're there, smashing more and more of its body into a nice, gooey mess.

Before long the centipede has stopped all movement aside from a small bit of twitching, your club covered in its gooey insides as you try to catch your breath. You feel good, better than you have in a long time. Hells, you feel like you could mount Fickie and ride her all damn night!

"Vik?" Tix calls out from the cave entrance. You turn to face her, covered from tail to head in the beasts blood, your sharp toothed grin the first thing she sees. "You okay?"

"Never better."

Resources gathered: 15(iron deposit)+3(centipede carapace)

(You are Khumgrin again. Joy)

A day had barely passed before everyone in the cave was talking about Vik's dragon like fury in taking down the hundred legged beast of the cave. The way Tix told it, Vik had stood his ground and evaded the centipedes lightning quick strikes with ease, smashing the creature to bits getting everyone some delicious bug goop for dinner.

If, hypothetically, you were the jealous type you might feel a bit put off. It was just a few days ago that you had slain the mighty spider crab, but it looks like everybody forgot about that now that Vik was the new hot shit on the swamp.

Grumbling, you stand at the edge on a mossy log, your new spear at the ready. The spear was made from the remains of the crab you'd killed a few days ago, Tix saying it was quite easy since the weapon design itself was simple.

Across from you and hanging from a low tree branch, Snas was almost lazily using a fishing rod to capture her prey, getting a quick bite and then whipping them out of the water and into a water filled jug at her side.

"Remember Khum," She chides you, almost like a teacher would a student. "It's all about patience. Don't just stab wildly and hope you can nab something, wait for the right moment and then strike."

You roll your eyes, but focus on the fish floating beneath you all the same.

Roll me 3d6.
Average success is DC 10.
Success to impress Snas is 14.

>>1198040
You wait.
And wait.
And wait.
And-
THERE!

With a quick thrust your spear cuts into the water, making contact with your targets, before you yank it right back out and smile at your success. Not one, not two, but THREE catfish are in their final death throws and pierced on your spear.

"That...is honestly impressive." Snas compliments you, her face indeed looking more surprised at how well you performed at your task. Sure, it may have only been catching fish, but with your precision you managed to do something impressive. Not only that, but you feel more confident now, like you could use these simple skills in battle to be more effective instead of just flailing about and hopping to hit something.

You grin at Snas, wanting to say something snappy and cool at her.

>"I guess you could I got right to the point of this training huh?"
>Wiggle the catfish covered spear at her. "Neenerneenerneeeener!"
>"Never should've doubted me Snas, I took to this like fish take to water."

(Sorry guys, was up as late as I could stand it last night before I had to sleep. Had a short shift today so we're still on for tonight. Gonna' post this update, then at 8, which is like three hours from now, we'll get into the nity gritty.)
===

You grin, twirling your spear in one hand while you lean against a tree with the other. "Never should've doubted me Snas, I took to this like fish take to water."

Oh yeah, you're smooth as ice.

Snas even gives you small round of applause for the joke, which only stokes your ego even more. Inside you're more excited than you have been in a while. This wasn't just about catching fish, this was about proving to Snas that you could improve yourself, get better. For her, and the tribe.

That and you don't look like a screw up so often. "Alright miss Foghunter, I think we've caught enough fish for now, let's head on back to camp and see how everyone else is doin', eh'?"

"Whatever you say chief." Snas and you collect your fish, 13 of them in all. 3 of them yours and the other 10 belong to her. A good haul for a days worth of fishing.

Food gathered: 4(13 catfish)

Notes: 3 catfish a day to feed the whole tribe.

See ya'll later tonight.

>NENERNENERNEENER!

Haha, I think I got the 'point' of this training
