Welcome to Spirit Detective Quest! This quest, as the title suggests, takes place in the world of Yu Yu Hakusho, though it does not take place during the events of the show. You're a young highschooler, one who will find himself granted the title of Spirit Detective, and will be charged with tracking down demons and other supernatural criminals.

>Rules

Each time I make an update, there will be a ten minute window in which you can vote between various options I have provided. Write-ins are accepted and encouraged, but I do reserve the right to veto them. Once ten minutes have passed, the option (or suitable combination) with the most support will win.

You can choose multiple options, but be mindful of when that doesn't take any sense. Saying you want to go talk to someone and then talk to someone else in one post doesn't make much sense.

Also, in combat, I may veto selecting multiple options depending on how feasible that seems.

As far as combat, you will roll to attempt different options. I will not tell you what the number needed is ahead of time, so use your heads and balance risk/reward. Sometimes, you should take riskier options if they can yield greater payoff. Other times, it's best to play it safe. Use your judgement.

This is not Dragonball, and while there are sometimes ways to bring back the dead, they are few and far between, so do not assume that anybody you kill/let die will be coming back.

I hope you all have fun.

Think Dragoonball on a much smaller scale and with more spirits than aliens and you're basically caught up.

So it's Bleach but without the Kubo factor?

You must be dreaming.

That's the only explanation you can come up with as you take a moment to consider your current situation. You seem to be floating above some crappy little cabin out in a field somewhere, not much else below you, and really just the moon and stars above you.

And to make things even weirder, you aren't the only one floating around above this field. There's some pretty redheaded girl hovering next to you, riding what you first thought was a broom, but actually appears to be an oar on closer inspection.

Yeah, that settles it, you have to be dreaming.

The girl's bright blue eyes study you with concern, and you see her reach into the robe she's wearing, retrieving some sort of book.

"Okay, let's see here...." she mutters in an accent you recognize as Irish as she frantically flips through the book. "Ah, you're-"

You don't even hear her say your name, still trying to make sense of this dream. You don't think you've ever been aware when you were dreaming before.

"Hello?" the girl asks softly, causing you to look at her again. "You heard what I said, right?"

You shake your head.

The girl sighs. "Well, this is never easy, but I'm afraid you're dead."

"Oh. Okay, that seems like a reasonable explanation," you tell the girl.

She looks quite surprised by this response, but after that, she looks very much relieved.

"Well, that's unexpected," she chuckles. "Most people take the news much worse."

You take a look around again, trying to make sense of where you are. The sky looks beautiful, and other than that crappy little cabin, the field seems pretty nice, too. You guess this could be the afterlife, but you really have no way of knowing, so you decide to just come out and ask the girl.

"So, is this heaven?"

She shakes her head. "No, we're still on Earth. You see, when people die suddenly, their spirits sometimes have a bit of difficulty progressing naturally to the afterlife. When that happens, they send guides like me to help the souls make it to Spirit World."

She looks down at her book. "Now, I'm looking at your page, and it says that you're-"

"-kind of a recluse," she continues. "You keep to yourself, and open to few, if any people."

That's pretty much right on the money. You've never exactly been a social person, and you've had few friends in your life. Solitude, for whatever reason, has just appealed to you more. Your parents never really seemed to get that, they've always tried to encourage you to go make more friends, or get involved in some sort of social activity.

It gets irritating, but you can tell they're doing it out of concern for you.

"That must get lonely," the girl remarks, more to herself than you. "And it says here that your best quality is-"

>A. You're a hard worker. No matter what it is that you're trying to do, you always put your best foot forward and give it your all.

"Huh, so even Heaven and Hell can get full," you remark.

Aria giggles. "Well, it's not quite like that. See, each spirit is a little different from the others. Their place in the afterlife is often determined by religious beliefs, personal desires, and, of course, what kind of person they were. Because of this, it takes a bit of time to ready a place for a person. Usually places in Spirit World are created well before a person dies, but on occasion, we get a person who dies unexpectedly, and when that happens, their place isn't always ready."

"So, what if things don't run smoothly?" you ask her.

"To be honest, I'm not sure," Aria tells you, rubbing the back of her head. "I'm pretty new at this job myself. Anyway, I'm sure you'll get more answers if we head for Spirit World, are you set?"

You nod. "Alright, let's go."

Aria reaches out, grabbing hold of your wrist and ascending higher into the air, pulling you along with her as the two of you rise higher and higher into the sky, soon passing over the clouds and yet still going higher. The blackness of space looks far less distant, and before long, you're surrounded by it, leaving the Earth behind.

You blink, and when your eyes open back up, you can see clouds again, hanging high over a series of jagged mountains which stand on either side of a rocky, windy road that looks to be hundreds of feet in the air, maybe higher.

Aria doesn't seem at all interested in the scenery, so you gather that this must be the Spirit World. Looking down, you see a long river running far below the path, and you recall that there was supposed to be a river in the Underworld, at least as far as the ancient Greeks knew.

"Hmm?" you hear Aria vocalize above you.

Looking up, you see her reach into her robe and retrieve what looks like a mirror. She opens it up, and you wonder if crashing into something hurts in the afterlife.

"Lord Koenma, sir!" she says, sounding surprised, and even a bit nervous. "How can I help you?"

"You just picked up the soul of a boy named William, right?" a voice asks. "William Haywood?"

Aria glances down toward you, then looks back at the mirror. "Yes, sir."

"I want you to bring him to me right away," the voice instructs.

"Uh...of course, sir," Aria replies, sounding surprised and extremely confused. "But why? Has something gone wrong?"

"I'll explain everything when you get here, now hurry up!" the other voice yells. "We don't have much time!"

Aria looks down at you again, an expression of worry on her pretty face. "Hold on tight, alright?"

"Alright, but who's Koenma?" you ask, grabbing onto Aria's wrist.

Aria looks ahead, and the oar begins to move even faster through the sky. Wherever it is that you're going, you're sure to be arriving there soon.

"Koenma is the son of King Yama, ruler of Spirit World," Aria explains. "So, as you can imagine, he's one of the most important people there is. It's not very often he asks to see new arrivals, so whatever the reason, it must be important. Just make sure you're on your best behavior when you see him."

A large shape soon comes into view, far off into the distance. Soon, it becomes more clear, and you're able to see that it's a massive building, probably a palace for this Koenma guy. Its architecture looks Asian, and you find yourself questioning what sort of afterlife you've found yourself in.

Aria brings her oar in for a landing in front of a large set of doors situated on a balcony somewhere in the upper levels of the palace. Once your feet touch the ground, she lets go of your wrist, hopping off of her oar and approaching an intercom on the left door. This proves unnecessary, as the doors swing right open for her.

Aria takes a moment to smooth her green robe, and looks back at you. "This way, please."

She leads you into the palace, and you find yourself walking down a long, dark corridor, the ceiling of which looks almost like the back of someone's throat. At the end of the hall, you come across another set of doors, which also swing right open for Aria and you.

Beyond the door is a brightly-lit room full of desks, stacks of paper, and large, oddly-colored creatures of various sizes. Most of them are bigger than any guy you've ever met, and they seem to come in just about every color. They're mostly dressed either in loincloths, or really simple shorts and t-shirts. Mostly of them are carrying large stacks of paper, and shouting to one another as they frantically run back and forth through the room.

Aria pays them no mind, calmly walking through the room, but a few of them look toward you in surprise, resulting in two of the creatures colliding with one-another, and dropping a huge stack of papers.

You don't know enough about these creatures, or the papers they've dropped to really be any help. They already seem to be making headway in cleaning their mess, so you just follow Aria further into the palace.

It's another walk down a long hall before you finally arrive at Koenma's room. Two massive doors swing open, revealing a rather comfortable looking room that also reminds you quite a bit of an office. You guess the prince works here as his day job.

"Ah, welcome," a voice says, and it takes you a moment to trace it to what looks like a floating baby.

No, you aren't hallucinating (you think), that's a floating baby.

He's dressed in a purple shirt and yellow pants, with a purple and pink hat on his head with "Jr" written on it. He has a pacifier in his mouth, and, oh yeah, he's floating and talking!

"I'm glad you were able to make it here so quickly," the baby says, floating around the desk and coming to land in front of you. He looks up at you and extends a small hand. "I'm Koenma, so good to meet you."

You reach out and shake the toddler's hand, unsure whether to tell him that it's an honor to meet him, question the fact that Spirit World is evidently run by a baby, or just laugh. In the end, you opt for silence, and Koenma seems pleased enough by the simple handshake.

"So,what's this all about?" you ask as you release his hand.

Koenma turns away from you, putting his hands behind his back and stepping toward his desk. "Right down to business, good. As I said, we don't have much time, so I'll try to keep this brief."

He sits down on a cushy-looking chair behind his desk, forcing both you and Aria to come closer so that you can see him properly.

"The short of it is that you have a chance to get your life back," Koenma explains.

"I'm listening," you tell him. "But, how did I even die in the first place?"

"Yes, I was just getting to that," Koenma tells you, producing a television remote.

Turning around, you see a massive TV screen being lowered, and it turns on to reveal a video of you. As you watch, memories begin to flood back. This video is from this afternoon, just after you finished unpacking.

Your dad's been granted tenure at a local college, so you and your family moved out of the big city and came to a little town called Marksville. You'd told your parents you were going for a walk, and then....

The screen shows you walking down a sidewalk next to an empty-looking street, hands in your pockets and eyes trained forward. The you on screen doesn't even notice the shape moving up behind him, and has no warning before he's struck in the back of the head and falls unconscious.

The camera angle changes to reveal a gray-skinned, emaciated-looking creature with clawed hands, and a bald head covered in stubby little horns. The video ends, and an image of the creature's face appears on the right side of the screen, the name Suldon under his picture. A letter "E" appears to the left of the picture.

"You were attacked by a demon named Suldon," Koenma explains. "Our sources say he just came to your world about six months ago, and that's really all we know. He has no prior convictions, no criminal record of any kind. All we can tell is that he's a rather weak demon, and that he somehow got his hands on some nasty equipment."

The demon's image vanishes, and an image of blue tongs appears on screen.

"These are called Terrible Tongs," Koenma explains. "And they're the reason for your current predicament."

"Okay, so what do I do?" you ask, your tone remaining rather casual.

Aria looks at you, nonplussed, clearly not sure what to make of your reactions to all of this. You don't see Koenma's face, but you like to think you get a similar reaction from him.

"What you'll need to do to reclaim your body is relatively simple," Koenma explains to you as you turn back toward him. "Aria will take you back down to Earth, and you can just go ahead and reenter it."

"Sir, I thought spirits couldn't just fly back into their bodies," Aria comments.

"Normally they can't," Koenma tells her. "But the Terrible Tongs remove a human's soul from their body without any damage to either the body or the soul. What's more, this method of extraction has left William's body alive, just in a sort of vegetative state. Getting back into his body will be simple, it's keeping it that's the problem."

He looks at you with a serious expression. "Once you're back in your body, Suldon's sure to try and take it back. He'll either try to rip out your soul again, or just try and rip you to pieces. You might be going back to your body just to die a painful death."

E. Any advise or help you can give to fix your mess?

E class demons are generally very primitive creatures, oftentimes little more than beasts. They occasionally kill humans, but that's basically treated like a bear attack. Something like this is extremely rare and unexpected from a creature with no sort of record

"Can those Terrible Tongs be used on demons?" you ask, trying to work out how you're going to beat this thing.

"No, Terrible Tongs either have to be attuned to Spirit Energy or Demon Energy," Koenma explains. "Since these ones ripped out your soul, I'm going to assume they're meant for use against humans."

"Well, then, do you have any advice on how to beat him?" you ask. "Any weapons I can use?"

"I don't have anything I could give you that you'd keep upon returning to your body," Koenma answers. "However, returning to your body will cause it to become more aware of your Spirit Energy. That alone will make you stronger, hopefully strong enough to defeat Suldon. I'll be watching closely, so if things get really bad, I may be able to help you find a way out."

Aria looks down regretfully. "Sorry, William, but once you're back in your body, I won't be able to help you. I don't have a physical form, so the most I could do is try to distract him."

"One of our agents is on their way, but odds are that Suldon will be gone by the time they arrive," Koenma tells you. "And if we wait for our agent to track him down, your body probably won't be in great shape when this is all over. I'm sorry, but this is the best we can do for now."

"Alright then," you say, turning away from Koenma.

Aria bows toward the toddler, then approaches you. "I'll take you back to Earth. Let's hurry."

Soon, the two of you are flying above Spirit World, leaving the palace behind and making your way back toward Earth. After only a few minutes, you once again find yourself over that same field, with that same little cabin smack- dab in the middle of it.

Aria stops a short distance from the cabin. "Alright, he may be inside, so we have to do this as quietly and quickly as possible. We can pass right through the walls, then you just have to jump back into your body."

There's really not much else you can do to get ready for this, and if you wait too long, you might lose your nerve. It's really now or never.

Just as Aria said, you're able to pass right through the walls of the cabin, and quickly locate your body, lying on a crappy wooden table. It's a pretty strange feeling, seeing your own corpse, and you decide you don't like that feeling.

Your body looks as if it's sleeping peacefully. Time to wake it up.

As you start toward your corpse, you hear a crunch coming from across the room. Coming to a halt, you turn in that direction, seeing the creature responsible for your demise hunched in a corner, eating something rather loudly.

>A. Return to your body, get up, and try to sneak up on him

He's distracted. You should at least have time to get back into your body. While the demon continues to munch away at whatever he's been eating, you leap for the table, seeing a bright light as your spirit touches your body.

Your eyes snap open, and you find yourself staring up at the ceiling of the cabin. It takes you a moment to process the change, and what it means.

You're alive.

Of course, that might only be a temporary thing if you aren't careful. Slowly, and while keeping the rest of your body still, you turn your head to look around the room, hoping to find some kind of weapon to use against the demon. Unfortunately, aside from a few wooden planks, you don't see much that you could use as a weapon. No sign of the tongs, either.

But, you do see something that makes your heart stop.

The demon is staring right at you, his face covered in blood from the fawn he has in his clawed grasp. Licking his lips, he lets out a growl as he releases the deer and rears up to his full height.

"You're supposed to be dead!" he hisses.

"I must not have gotten the memo," you tell him.

Suldon growls, slowly stepping toward you. Evidently, he feels no need to rush things, and you're pretty sure that if you die, it will not be over quickly.

A blunt object might give you the advantage you need, but you still need to make sure you can get to it without the monster in front of you ripping you into pieces. You quickly move back to the other side of the table, positioning yourself so that the object presents a small barrier between the two of you.

"You're scared, aren't you?" Suldon mocks as he draws closer, showing off his bloody claws and giving you a condescending smirk. "I don't blame you, most humans are."

While he's busy mouthing off, you flip the table, throwing it toward him. Suldon growls, grabbing the table as you rush for the nearest wooden plank, picking it up and turning to see your demonic adversary raising the table over his head.

"Some wood isn't going to keep you safe from me, human," Suldon hisses. "But maybe it'll squash you like a bug!"

He hurls the table, and you rush toward him, dropping to your knees and allowing the piece of furniture to fly right over your head. Getting back up, you quickly close the remaining distance between yourself and your wide-eyed foe, slamming your blunt instrument into the side of his head.

For a bit, he seems unable to fight back, and you land several more blows before a particularly hard strike causes the plank to break. Suldon falls sideways to the floor, glaring up at you hatefully.

"Human filth!" he hisses, raising a clawed hand. "I'LL TEAR YOU APART!"

Your plank may have broken, but it's still got a jagged edge left to it, and you think that could do some serious damage to this little bastard. As Suldon makes his threats, you ready yourself to shut him up for good.

The demon springs up, swiping at you with his long claws, but you expected as much, ducking beneath the strike and thrusting the plank upward, putting enough strength in the movement to impale the demon's throat.

Suldon seems to have been defeated, but you don't feel like taking chances with a creature like this. It's killed you once before, and tried to do it a second time. You aren't about to let him get a third opportunity.

You punch the creature in the stomach, then grab his head as he hunches over. Leaping up, you slam your knee into his nose, causing him to throw his head back and stagger away from you, backing up toward the wall.

Breaking into a run, you leap up, aiming directly for the plank jutting from the beast's throat. You kick with all of your might, forcing the wood in deeper. You hear the beast gurgle, but then it goes still, slumping against the wall, dead.

Still feeling a bit paranoid with this whole situation, you violently remove the plank from Suldon's throat, wanting to have some method of defense just in case.

"Aria?" you call out as you look around the cabin.

Sure enough, you hear an Irish-accented voice answer, as a pretty redhead appears in front of you.

"Nice work, there," she compliments with a smile. "Not even a scratch on you, and the demon's dead. That's very impressive."

She looks around. "Now, I think I spotted the tongs...."

Aria moves across the room, finding a tiny corner-table with a set of tongs on top of it.

"So, want me to stay in the cabin until the guy they sent gets here?" you ask. "Just to make sure nobody walks away with the Tongs?"

Aria gives a great big smile in response to your offer. "You're a really good guy, you know that, William?"

She moves to take a seat on a little wooden chair next to the corner table before remembering that she doesn't have a body and stopping herself.

"I'd appreciate that," she tells you. "And I'm sure Koenma would, too."

Looks like you're going to be here for a bit. If you have any questions for Aria, now's a pretty good time to ask them.

"So, where does some nothing like Suldon get something so dangerous?" you ask Aria.

The girl tilts her head to the side, thinking it over for a moment. "Honestly, I don't know. He could have gotten really, really lucky and found them, or somehow managed to steal them. I doubt a creature like him would know how to make the tongs. The only other explanation would be that somebody gave them to him, but I can't see somebody giving something so valuable to someone like him."

She has a point, there. Suldon was, all things considered, very easy to kill, even if you feel a bit winded after your little scuffle. If these things are as valuable as Aria says, giving them to a weakling like him seems stupid.

"Hopefully, some of our investigators can figure out where he got those, but I'm not sure they'll manage," Aria tells you honestly.

"Well, do you have any idea why he'd use those things on me and not kill my body?" you ask her.

"Well, from what I know, Terrible Tongs are mostly used by demons who consume human souls," Aria explains to you. "It's possible that he pulled yours out intending to eat it, lost his grip, and you just floated into the air."

"But why target me?" you ask.

"Well, you were a teenager off on your own," Aria answers. "He probably thought you were an easy target."

Well, he wasn't wrong.

>A. Ask her to explain the whole "demon" thing to you

But he didn't touch my body, instead he hunted and ate a deer while guarding it. I think whoever gave him the tongs wanted a soulless human body for some reason. Maybe they wanted mine specifically for some reason but who knows?

"I don't think Suldon wanted to eat my soul," you tell Aria. "He seemed like a meat-eater."

Aria looks toward the remains of the fawn in the corner of the room. "True, I just can't think of a better explanation as to why he didn't eat your body."

"Maybe someone gave him the tongs," you guess. "And maybe that someone wanted a soulless body for some reason."

Aria seems to think that over, her brow furrowing in thought. "Alright, but for what...and why would they trust someone like this to get that body for them?"

You honestly don't know the answer to that, either. Hopefully those investigators she mentioned will be able to figure things out. And that reminds you, Koenma said he had an agent coming.

"Do you know who Koenma's sending to help us?" you ask.

"Probably one of his Spirit Detectives," Aria answers.

"Spirit Detectives?" you ask, wanting to know more.

"They're humans specially selected by Koenma to track down supernatural criminals," Aria explains. "They can deal with demons much better than most of our other agents, so in this case, I think Koenma would have sent one in."

A professional demon hunter? Well, that sounds interesting.

That's it for our first session, everybody. Thanks to all of you who participated. I hope you had a good time.

Follow me @qmdralo to see when I'm running this or one of my other quests

I'll stick around for a little while to address questions/take feedback

Can we have different specialization in how our spirit energy works and what we can do with it instead of the standard normal stuff that Yusuke did. Like how Kuwabara can change his energy into different shapes, Kurama and his effect on plants etc... which results in that area being easier for us to learn instead of branching and just being a jack of all trades.

The strangest night of your life as of this point continues. At least now, things are peaceful as you sit in the cabin, with only a dead fawn, a dead demon, and some sort of spirit guide to keep you company.

Typical night, right?

Aria makes small talk with you to help pass the time, being quite friendly and relaxed in relation to the serious demeanor she exhibited during your meeting with Koenma earlier this evening.

It still seems so strange. Ghosts are real, demons are real, and the afterlife is managed by a baby. Not a combination you necessarily would have guessed.

Aria gives you a laugh as she looks in your direction. "Well, depends what ye consider "cute". Thanks for the compliment, in any case."

She smiles and begins to aimlessly pace around the cabin, apparently growing restless with waiting here for so long.

"Do you know when this "detective" will get here?" you ask her.

Aria stops moving, putting her hands behind her head and thinking for a moment. "Koenma said that she was a few hours away. But that was almost two hours ago, so hopefully she won't be too much longer."

"So, the detective's human, right?" you ask Aria.

"That's right," she answers.

"So then, how are they supposed to take the tongs to Spirit World?" you question.

"Oh, she won't do it," Aria tells you. "Her assistant will."

At that moment, the door to the cabin is kicked in, revealing someone who you figure must be the detective.

She looks to be a couple years older than you, with dark blue eyes, short, dirty blonde hair, a long-sleeve black shirt, and matching pants. Her expression is extremely serious, but as she takes in the scene, that expression switches to confusion, and out and out shock when she spots the dead demon.

She looks over at you. "Aren't you the one I was sent to rescue? You beat the demon by yourself?"

"Turns out he had a wood allergy," you remark, holding up the jagged bit of plank you used to end his life.

The girl glances at it, then looks over at the fallen demon, a smirk coming to her face as she realizes what you're getting at.

"Well, that's a new one," she tells you, turning her attention back to you. "Never had someone I was supposed to save rescue himself before. Nice work, there."

"I'm William," you introduce yourself. "And you are?"

"Stephanie," she answers. "But my friends call me Steph. I'm a Spirit Detective."

"Yes, Koenma said you'd be coming," Aria tells the girl, coming to stand beside you.

Steph nods. "He mentioned that this demon had some sort of dangerous item."

"Yes, they're right over there," Aria confirms, pointing at the Terrible Tongs.

Stephanie walks over, picking the tongs up and taking a second to look them over. "Man, the weirdest things can be used as weapons, can't they?"

"Steph, is it safe?" a man's voice asks from outside.

"Yeah, Frank, come on in," the girl calls to him.

A thin, dark-haired man clad in a black robe steps inside, glancing around the cabin. He inclines his head and greets Aria pleasantly, but looks quite surprised when he sees you.

"You're William," he says. "Thank goodness you're okay. I didn't think we'd make it in time."

"Yeah, turns out he killed the demon by himself," Stephanie explains as she walks over to the man, handing him the tongs. "You should probably get these things to Spirit World."

Frank nods. "Right, I won't be long."

With that, he turns and rushes outside, back into the darkness.

"So, that's your assistant?" you ask as Frank vanishes into the night.

Stephanie nods. "Yeah. He's a good guy."

Aria talked a bit about Spirit Detectives before, but now you have one of them right in front of you. This seems like a good opportunity to learn about them, probably the best you'll get. So, you decide to ask Stephanie to tell you more about them.

"Well, we're humans with Spiritual Awareness that Koenma assigns to deal with criminals from Spirit World and Demon World," Stephanie explains to you. "And sometimes criminals from our world that are dealing with demons, too. When Spirit World learns about some kind of monster or spirit causing trouble, we get called in to hunt them down and deal with them."

She pauses a moment, then goes on. "Koenma used to only have one detective at a time, but there's more demons in the world now, so he needs more detectives."

That reminds you. "Speaking of demons, what about the dead one over there?"

Stephanie looks over at Suldon's body, raising her left hand and making a gun with her fingers. She points toward the demon, and you see a weird sort of glow appear at the tip of her index finger. A beam of light shoots from her fingertip, engulfing the creature and punching a large hole through the cabin wall. When the light fades, Suldon's corpse is gone.

Stephanie lets her hand fall back to her side. "There, taken care of."

"Sure I can," the redhead tells you.

"In that case, I'm going to get going," Stephanie announces. "Safe travels."

With that, the girl turns around and steps into the darkness.

Aria, meanwhile, seems to make her oar appear out of thin air, and takes a seat on top of it, floating past you and out the door. You see an orb of white light appear behind her, allowing you to better see where she's going.

"It's going to be a pretty long walk," the spirit guide warns.

You shrug, doing some stretches to prepare your body for the long walk before following her out into the night.

The stars and moon are shining above, Aria's light serves as a guide, and the night is calm, with only the sounds of crickets and the occasional hoot of an owl in the distance the only noise you can hear. So, while the walk may be long, at least it's peaceful.

The two of you travel across the field, coming to a road which you follow for some time until you can see the lights of the town in the distance. Aria continues to lead the way until you reach the outskirts, at which point she stops and turns around.

"You can make it on your own from here, right?"

Saying goodbye to the girl, you make your way through town, and, after only a minute or two spent on getting your bearings, you're able to find your way back home.

>End Updates

That's all for tonight guys, hope you had fun

Sorry this was so short, but it's been a long day and I have to be up a bit early tomorrow

Odds are that I will be able to run tomorrow night, though probably not until sometime between eight and nine PM

>>1191649
speaking of gods of most religions, since the quest is set in Eagleland, are we gonna have to deal with ol' YHWH?
>>
>>1191660
First one got fired from being a Spirit Detective because he was taking lessons from a potentially dangerous demon, and getting instructions from another. He formed a sort-of romance with the demon who was teaching him fire attacks, and started working for the one that had been directing him. Eventually, the latter demon betrayed and killed him

Second one was about the child of two of the first quest's main characters, but it ended quickly due to a lack of interest caused by anger at the end of the previous quest

You're able to get your bearings quickly, saving you from having to wander around the town in the dark of night. It only takes you about ten minutes to locate the street on which your new home is situated, and soon you find yourself walking up your front lawn.

Checking the door once you reach the porch, you find it unlocked, and step right into the living room, finding your parents sitting on the couch, your mom reaching for a phone.

The two of them stand right up when they see you walk through the door. When comparing you to your parents, many people note how similar you look to your father. You have his brown hair, the same facial structure, pretty much every feature you have matches your father. The only difference is your eyes, which are the same blue as your mother's.

And, at the moment, your mother's blue eyes are displaying relief.

"Will, where have you been?" she asks, her voice somewhat high-pitched with dissipating worry. "It's nearly midnight."

She looks at you strangely, maybe trying to figure out if you're own drugs or something. Honestly, with the answer you gave, you should probably be grateful that she doesn't just smack you upside the head.

"This isn't something to laugh about," your dad speaks up, his voice stern. "Do you have any idea how worried we were about you? The least that you can do is tell us the truth about where you were."

A look of anger comes to your dad's face for but a moment before he lets out a sigh, closing his eyes and taking a deep breath.

"What's important is that you're safe," your mother tells you, looking between you and your father. "But please don't scare us like that."

She gives you a hug, and when she steps back, your dad seems to have regained his composure.

"Yes, we're both glad you're safe," he tells you, the sincerity in his voice intermingled with clear frustration as your apparent lying. "Now, go get some sleep. Your first day of school is tomorrow, and you'll want to be well rested."

"I love you guys," you say to your parents before stepping out of the room.

The rumbling of your stomach delays your going to sleep, and you take a moment to locate the kitchen, quickly preparing yourself a sandwich to tide you over until morning. The sounds of your meal preparation draw the attention of your mother, who comes to check on you.

"There's some chips in the cabinet," she tells you before stretching and letting out a yawn. "Goodnight, dear, sleep well."

Your mother leaves you to eat in peace, and you finish your food a few minutes later, heading upstairs and climbing into bed.

After the day you've had, you fall right to sleep. Your dreams that night are filled with strange creatures, cute redheaded spirits, and a baby that is apparently the son of a god or something. It makes about as much sense in your dream as it did in the waking hours.

When morning comes, you still feel somewhat tired, but you still get out of bed and into the shower, cleaning yourself up and deciding what to wear today.

Your tracksuit.

"I was telling the truth," you insist, speaking with total sincerity as you try to convince your mother.

She looks at you for a moment, doubt in her eyes as they search your own. You understand her skepticism. Hell, if you hadn't lived through it, you probably would be more than a bit skeptical of someone who told you something like that.

"Whatever happened to you, I'm glad you made it back to us safe and sound," she tells you, her own voice sincere.

That's probably the best you could have hoped for. She's not a hundred percent on the monster thing, but she believes that you're not just screwing with her.

"You know, dad could stand to be a little more patient with me, too," you remark after eating a piece of bacon.

"I know he could," your mom agrees. "I've talked with him about it. He's just frustrated. He worries about you, Will."

"I know he does," you tell your mother.

You finish the rest of your breakfast without saying another word. Once you've finished eating, you get up and walk out the door, making the relatively short trip to school and arriving in time for homeroom.

You find that most of the other students are already there, mostly broken up into various small groups and talking to one another, though you spot some dark-haired kid sitting in the back of the room with his nose buried in a book. He doesn't seem keen to hang out with anybody, and the others mostly seem to be avoiding him as well.

A white-haired man, clearly up there in years, approaches you with a clipboard in his hand.

"Name?" he asks.

"William Haywood," you introduce.

"William...." he looks at his clipboard. "Ah, right."

He turns toward the class. "Attention, everyone! Welcome to your first day back at school. We have a new student joining us this year, Mr. William Haywood."

The other students size you up, a few of them seeming interested in the fact that there's somebody new, while the kid in the back barely glances up from his book, and a few others either snicker to themselves or roll their eyes.

"Welcome, William," the man says, turning back to you. "I'm Mr. Owens, and I'll be your homeroom teacher. Is there anything you'd like to say to the class? Perhaps you could tell them a bit about themselves."
