“Er Yin smells lovely....” she comments. “I hope I am welcome in her place as she showers and helps prepare breakfast, Ryu-chan.” She is obviously joking, and you wonder at her lack of envy, her ease with which she deals with these strange relationships she is in the midst of.

“At the moment, I couldn't stop anyone from doing anything, kasan,” you murmur, and she laughs, pressing her gloriously soft body against yours and cuddling with you. “'Sides, you have to explain your plans....”

While most people frown on wikipedia, the part about Japanese mythology and mosnters has been updated consistently and often by historians, many of whom disabused a lot of the weeaboo nonsense. So, the two pages i'm giving you are useful.

Shimane is a lovely site that details a lot of the ancient historical texts that Japanese myth has been written into. Something to be aware of is that like Greek mythology, ancient Japanese mythology was written about far after the incidents that inspired them, so historically, you end up with a lot of conflicting accounts.

The translations of the Kojiki are hard to come by, but I definitely recommend Takeda Yukichi's (last name first in this case) Shintei Kojiki as the most accurate and up to date translation of the Kojiki.

Doctor Carmen Blaker's "Shinto and the Sacred Dimension of Nature" is an easy read, if you can find it, while Yamakage Motohisa's "the Essence of Shinto, Japan's Spiritual Heart" is a good beginner's iontorduction. Harder to parse is Ueda Kenji's "The Concept of Kami", an except out of The Religious Heritage of Japan: Foundations for Cross-Cultural Understanding in a Religiously Plural World. But while harder to understand, the depth and breadth of it's material is great for firing up the imagination.
