Also, Herr, I've got a small collection of submarine schematics you might find useful.

Here's an example of a WWI-era U-boat that was designed as a "cruiser-type" sub. Basically because of the primitive battery technology of the time, most submarines were essentially surface vessels that could submerge to attack. Because of that, the U-155 was built with four deck guns so that it could engage merchants while surfaced if the torpedoes ran out or malfunctioned. They were also built for long-range surface operations.

Early submarine technology is actually quite fascinating.

Actually, scratch that. The U-155's class was originally designed as blockade-running cargo subs. They just ended up being used as cruiser-subs later in the War. Their design inspired several classes of purpose-built cruisers though.

And here's something I actually scanned myself from a book I own. It's an American fleet boat from WWII. They were much larger and more luxurious than their German contemporaries, but that's because the US had twenty years of continuous submarine research after WWI while Nazi Germany was pretty much starting out with WWI-era designs. The German Type-VII and Type-IX were actually more similar to WWI boats than the submarines of other nations at the beginning of the War. The Kreigsmarine caught up pretty quickly though, and they eventually built the Type-XXI which was the most advanced sub in the world at the time.

That's kind of what I was thinking too. I'd figure submarine technology would be more akin to WWII levels of advancement, with torpedoes especially being more reliable. Still, there's only so much you can do with lead-acid batteries, so I'd imagine submerged endurance would top out at around fifty hours without recharging.

I do recall the Germans experimenting with air-independent propulsion though. IIRC the main system they researched used high-purity peroxide as fuel. The reaction creates heat to spin the propellers, as well as oxygen for the crew to breathe.

The US also experimented with cruiser subs in the 20's, and of course took them to the logical extreme. The USS Narwhal was the largest of the "V-Boats" built to see if the concept was viable. It had two six-inch deck guns as well as six torpedo tubes, and it was a whopping 370 feet long. I figure that's more in-line with the Clankers' style of mechanical excess than the WWI cruisers, just with more guns and kracken-fighting arms.

Stress is a meter where your mind is pushed towards it's limit due to it sensing danger/being uncomfortable/ in a tight situation. When a meter reaches 100, the sanity level increase.

There are 5 sanity level:
1: Normal
2: Stressed
3: minor image Hallucination
4: Auditory hallucination & chance to develop phobia
5: Insanity/ self-harm

Some situation could instantly increase the level. To reduce stress level, you could read a book or any other activity to distract on what happened. To reduce sanity, you need a long rest in a safe place(the sub is not a safe place) or take pills. Care not to get addicted.
