TODAY:
Whitaker discovers shocking secrets about the rest of Team SPWB?
>>
The Bullhead is uncomfortably cramped, and the ride is taken in total silence. Weiss is pouting at you taking someone else’s side, and you’re content to let her. After Sun’s reminder of how your family is seen in the wider world, outside of Atlas and outside of those who knew you at Beacon, you’ve been taken by a melancholic mood that you don’t feel discussion will lift.

The march back to the dorm room is equally tense, and there is no one in the halls to notice it. Everyone must be getting ready for bed, and classes tomorrow. The trip to your door feels longer than usual, and the only distraction is the sound of twin footsteps echoing through dark halls. You feel an urge to sigh with relief when you finally reach and unlock the door, but you can’t bring yourself to summon the energy for it.

Penny’s head snaps towards the two of you as you enter, and Blake peers over her text book, looking curiously. “You are back from your time with Winter!” Penny states with enthusiasm and a warm smile, “Did you enjoy yourselves?” You can feel your chest rumble with an unreleased groan as Weiss takes the opportunity to finally vent.

“Oh, we had a great time. We stopped by the docks, browsed a bit, and Whitaker made a new friend!” She tears the word from gritted teeth, and the other girls take this as the signal things did not go as planned. Penny shrinks in on herself, her smile rapidly losing confidence, while Blake pulls book up further and prepares to drown your sister out.

“Maybe next time the two of you hang out, you can destroy public property, or get into a police chase!” The implications that you had befriended a criminal make Penny gasps in shock and the noise spurs you to defend yourself.

“He wasn’t doing anything!” It had been a while since you and Weiss had a real shouting match, and the building pressure at the base of your skull was warning you that this could become one very quickly.

“He ran away from a police officer!” Weiss’s voice is shrill, and she’s wrong. That’s what sticks out at you the most. Not her tone, or aggressive stance, but that she was simply wrong. You can’t stop yourself from correcting her even if you wanted to.

“He was running away from us!” Your shout had carried more than volume. Even you could hear the slight strain in your voice, and the argument ends before it can truly begin. Weiss knows you well enough to see how bothered you are by your own words, and you answer before she can ask, “He said so himself, ‘Every Faunus would have run from the Schnees.’”

Weiss begins to retort, but you can’t make out the first syllable before Blake surprises both of you with an interruption, “Why would he say something like that?” You meet her eyes and notice that she’s set the book aside, and seems to be paying an intense amount of interest to the scene before her. You give a short summary of the events, skipping over any details that don’t directly relate to Sun, and when you’re finished, Blake hums in a thoughtful manner.

A few moments of silence pass and you notice that with the argument’s momentum halted, Weiss has entirely lost the mood to fight over it. You aren’t sure it’s over entirely, but it’s the last you’ll hear from Weiss tonight. You move to take a seat at your own desk, but Blake interrupts once again, “Whitaker? Can I talk to you? Alone?”

You can’t think of a reason to deny her (actually, you can think of plenty, but no good ones), so you accept. She leads you back out of the dorm and, eventually, outside. There isn’t a soul around you, but despite that, Blake whispers her question, “Why did you help him? You skipped that part of the story.” You aren’t sure why this conversation had to happen in secret, but you answer…

>A) With refusal. “I’ve got my reasons, okay?”
>B) For your family. “I don’t want anyone to be afraid of us anymore.”
>C) With your morals. “It was wrong to go after him. We weren’t involved, and we didn’t have the right to become involved.”

The situation was entirely too circular to be fair.

Considering Whitaker is the diplomatic emotional health guy for his family and to an extent his friends, he'd probably take the situation personally. He's a sensitive guy, though he'd really prefer it if the White Fang would stop trying to assassinate them.

Admittedly, there's a strong helping of B on the side, but that's not precisely the way I'd put it. It's not so much "for the family" as "for the family's own good". It's not about how people react to the Schnees, but the reasons why people feel that way.

Diplomatic Proposal from the trenches of the discord Waifu War:

Prom Treaty:

This treaty states that all waifu affiliation will be dropped for this one event. Whittaker shall dance with every girl, waifu prospect or no. He shall rotate around the minor and major characters for 1-2 posts each. None is given more time than any other. This way we get nice interaction with underappreciated girls, whilst also getting some nice waifu time for everyone.

Everyone comes out happy and no bile or vitirol is shed. This way, everyone enjoys prom both in Remnant and irl.

>>
>>1734577
But the waifu wars need a winner. I think this is a better opportunity to give every waifu a chance. If it were without anything like this, it would just be Penny or Blake (mostly penny), and we wouldn't get a taste of every waifu.

This would allow everyone to get a taste, while still having a victor.

The writer actually had the balls to write what happens if you try to harem two girls in a semi realistic social setting.

Then the anons decided to mind merge with the loser of the waifu war, to show how much MC loved her.

The quest in those 10 threads-ish.

Holy shit, it nearly tore /tg/ apart.

There’s some internal debate. You want to tell her several things, but your thoughts jumble up, rushing to explain things you aren’t entirely sure you know Blake well enough to tell. Eventually, you can divide your emotions from the events tonight into clear halves, before and after. Before you knew his name, you knew that what your sisters were doing was immoral. After, you knew that what you had done had reinforced a desire you and Weiss have shared since you first learned of your grandfather. You aren’t sure which could be considered “more important,” so instead you decide to share both.

“It was wrong to go after him. We weren’t involved, and we didn’t have the right to become involved.” There are a few moments while Blake digests the explanation, and when you don’t continue, she asks, “Is that all? I mean, it’s… A good thing. I can respect that, it just… Feels like there’s more to it than that.”

“There is something else, I’m just not sure how to say it…” Blake’s mouth twitches towards a smile and she gently encourages you, “It’s probably best to just spit it out.” You can see the reason in that, so you give it a try.

“I don’t want anyone to be afraid of us anymore. The Schnee name used to mean something more than a brand and a beating.” You had done your best to avoid learning the details of how your father ran his business, but you still knew at least a few facts that made your stomach twist uncomfortably. The symbol you and Weiss wore on your backs were more often featured in the destruction of peace rather than the maintenance of it, and every Schnee born was painfully aware of that fact.

Your reasons seem to cause Blake some sort of discomfort. She’s chewing on her lip and looking towards the ground, eyes unfocused as she retreats internally. “What?” you ask, and she jumps awake a bit. The two of you hold eye contact for a moment or two before Blake runs a hand through her hair and sighs, “This is a bad idea...”

“What’s a bad idea?” There’s a sensation not unlike whiplash as the mood changes and Blake begins to nervously pace a bit as you stare on in hopeless confusion. She doesn’t answer you, and you try again.

“Blake? You’re starting to worry me.” She seems to remember your presence and stops, faces you, and visibly collects herself with a deep breath.

“Do you swear? That’s why you helped him?” There’s a hint of emotion you can’t quite place. Perhaps a nervous confusion? Either way, Blake is wound up, and you really meant every word, so it isn’t difficult to reaffirm.

“I swear.” You’re certain it was the right thing to say, but Blake seems increasingly nervous despite it.

“Alright. And, what I’m about to tell you, you promise not to tell anyone else? Not even Weiss?” If anything, the tension re-establishing itself makes answering her even easier, “Yes.” Blake’s hands slowly move towards the sides of her head as she speaks.

“This is… Very surprising, for me, but…” She swallows to clear the tightness in her throat and he hands move even further upwards, towards the bow you had never seen her without.

“I trust you.” Blake’s hands move with practiced ease, and the ribbon pulls away, revealing two black cat ears.

The air is still as you take in the full implication of what you see. Everything you had seen begins to fall into place. Blake’s initial distrust of you and Weiss, the confrontation over the White Fang, her reaction to the fact you defended Sun. It all comes together in an obvious picture that you curse yourself for not putting together sooner, but there’s one thing you’re missing. One final piece of the puzzle, one last question to ask.

“Was… Was that it?” You can’t help it. After the shock of discovering artificial life on your team, you simply cannot summon the sensation of surprise. A Faunus was fairly tame in comparison. Of course, Blake didn’t know that, so she seems shocked at your casual dismissal. Her eyebrows raise and eyes widen, but you focus on her revealed ears as they stand straight up from their formerly relaxed position.

“‘Is that it…?’” she mimics. “You mean this doesn’t surprise you? You KNEW?!” Your hands reflexively begin to pull upwards to mime placation at your teammate, but the lack of any heat in her exclamation stops them. You take a moment to consider your words carefully before you explain, “No, I had no idea. I’m just not sure why it was such a big a secret.” Blake considers it for a moment, and her expression relaxes to a more reserved one.

“You already know. ‘Every Faunus would run from the Schnees,’ right? Well, it’s not just your family we worry about. There are humans everywhere who don’t accept us. I hide who I am because I don’t want to be afraid of… Whatever people might do. Or say.”

“And with two Schnees on your team, you didn’t think you could let your guard down for even a moment, right?” Blake nods at your assessment, and the heavy feeling from earlier returns. Your family name now officially hung over every member of your team, a single-word threat that could expose Penny, take you and your sister’s freedom or strike fear into the hearts of Blake’s entire species.

“Well… For what it’s worth, I am glad you told me.” There didn’t seem anything else to say, but it seems to be enough to draw a small, sad smile out of Blake.

“I am too.”

The night passed uneventfully after Blake’s confession, leaving you with nothing to look forward to but the next day and the classes that would follow. Your morning courses are uninspiring, the same book work you had been doing for weeks, but your first mid-day class was one of the more exciting.

Dueling. Ms. Goodwitch’s arena had been witness to several spectacular matches and what felt like hundreds of less involving, yet still informative bouts. You had entered yourself a few times. You had tasted victory and defeat in the same manner that all the other students had (with the obvious exception of Pyrrha), but no matter the outcome, the act itself was supremely satisfying.

Today, you had been called to face an individual you had yet to test your mettle against: Yang Xiao Long. Despite the mission the two of you had undertaken, as well as her general temperament, you had never seen her fight outside of this room. What you had seen inside this room gave you some pause. Yang was a relentless force, constantly pressing her opponent into a defensive position with wild punches that always seem to connect, which your slower-to-activate semblance would not appreciate. Even your weapon’s defensive capabilities relied on keeping a target at bay, and Yang, from what you had seen, has spent years mastering getting in close.

Despite the familiar tremor of nervousness as you stepped onto the stage, you keep your composure. Both you and your opponent could have been chiseled from marble, though your expression was one of cautious judgment and hers one of amused ease. Ms. Goodwitch calls for the to of you to shake hands, and you do, albeit with much less force than the first time.

“Good luck,” she tells you with a playful smirk, “You’re gonna need it.” The words annoy just enough to light a small, competitive fire within you. You offer her a cool smile in return and a, “We’ll see,” before returning to your side on the ring. A few moments of silence pass, and then the signal to begin is given.

>A) Charge her! If she relies on constant aggression, beating her to the punch should throw her off balance.
>B) Be on your guard. She can’t do as much damage if you use Langerdorn to keep her out of arm’s reach.
>C) Prepare a gravity glyph. A jab or hook could catch you if you move forward or to the sides, the only way left was up!
>D) Prepare an ice glyph. If Yang wants to be an unstoppable force, introduce her to an immovable object.

Sounds like a good way to make Yang frustrated, which just makes her (literally) hotter. It'd melt.
>>
>>1735171
The only option when faced with ruthless aggression was a merciless defense. You and Yang move at the same moment, her a full charge and you a small stab forward with Langerdorn. The tip of the spear strikes the arena floor, and a white glyph begins to pulsate around the tiny impact before shifting into a light blue. In the split second it takes you to set up your trap, Yang has already crossed half the arena. She’s fast, but she still has an entire half to go, which gives you enough time to activate the dust trapped within your glyph.

A smooth pillar of ice rushes out of the symbol, and you lose vision of Yang for a moment. Her position reconfirms itself when you hear the sounds of a rough impact and shattering ice. The pillar cracks from the force, but the structure holds. You have to time to appreciate the execution of your plan. You spin around the pillar and see Yang pushing herself out of the small human-shaped hole she’s unwillingly bored.

You can’t give her a moment to get her feet back under her. The defense must be merciless, so you whip Langerdorn around yourself to maximize its momentum before slamming the butt of the staff into the back of her head, which causes Yang to headbutt the ice once again. You swing again, now that you have her in a compromising position, but Yang will not give you this fight for free. An arm flings behind her and catches your weapon.

Yang attempts to rip Langerdorn from your grip, but you hold fast and are flung back towards your side of the arena, spear still in hand. You don’t have much time before Yang frees herself entirely. A quick check confirms that Yang’s aura has dropped significantly from the initial blows, but she’s still at over half her capacity.

>A) Press your advantage with the Ice dust. Get behind her and trap her between two walls of ice.
>B) Get on top of the pillar and prepare for a sneak attack.
>C) She’s weaker than you are now. If you keep her at bay, you should be able to take her in a straight fight.
>>
>>1735390
It would probably be as easy to freeze a thin layer over the floor as it would be to construct an ice barricade strong enough to stop Yang.

Yang is going to expect a capitalizing move. Despite being bodily thrown off of your attack, you still hold the advantage, and a quick finish is exactly what you should do. Which means it’s exactly what she’s prepared for. You call another glyph at your feet and launch off of it’s black glow, coming to a halt on top of the icy pillar. You feel your perch lurch as Yang finishes ripping herself out of it, and the wicks of flame licking at her hair tells you two things. Yang is growing frustrated, and you’ve done enough damage for her showy counter-semblance to activate.

You hold your breath, waiting to see where she goes and how to best approach. Yang doesn’t give you the luxury, and pounds an angry fist into the rapidly weakening ice. With a single thunderous crack, the pillar is broken and begins to tip, with you on top of it. The shifting weight draws out a surprised yelp, which draws Yang’s attention. So much for sneaking up on her.

She attacks the tower again, accelerating the drop and forcing you to drop to the floor once again. There’s a moment of stillness before Yang rushes you, and you just barely manage to hold her back. Each driving step she takes forward is met by a probe and a shove from your halberd, keeping her only just away. You can feel the heat from her punches as they pass only inches from your stomach, but they don’t hit, and that’s what matters most.

You feint a sweeping attack off of another block, and Yang dodges a hit that isn’t coming, giving you space to escape the danger zone. You twirl away and the head of Langerdorn snaps in two. By the time you finish the spin, the axe head is fully formed and delivers a vicious bite into the aura hovering above Yang’s lower back.

She shouts in pain and surprise as her aura continues to tick away. With no way to reach you behind her, Yang instead dodges forward and rolls, coming up to face you with an angry scowl under blood red eyes. Both of you break the locked gazes to check aura levels. You’ve been brought to almost half by Yang’s barrage and your rough landing, but Yang herself has only a sliver left, and she’s burning herself out quickly.

>A) Take no risks, show no sportsmanship. Swap to your rifle form and open fire with your dummy rounds until her aura breaks.
>B) Remain cautious. Wait for her to rush you again, and finish her with a flurry from a range when Langerdorn is most comfortable.
>C) Get aggressive. Charge in while she’s still on one knee and end it with a well-placed strike.

Yang may be down, but you haven’t won yet, and you won’t win by playing to her strengths. Landerdorn shrinks in overall size and the blades snap into a hand guard around the trigger. Yang’s eyes widen at your decision, and she’s dodging by the time you pull the trigger. The rounds may not be live, but the sheer impact force from your rifle means you could be firing bean bags and it would take her down in this state.

Your hands work the bolt mechanisms as quickly as you can, and it’s just enough to avoid giving Yang time to move in. She’s forced to jump around and over your shots while flinging wild shots from her gauntlets. Her own dummy rounds land so wide that you don’t bother to dodge.

Eventually, with no progress to be made, none of her desperate attacks landing, and her body rapidly beginning to tire without aura to regenerate her, Yang makes a bad jump and catches a shot to the gut. The impact spins her mid air and she lands on her stomach. You’re worried for a moment when she simply lies there, but Yang pushes herself up with a weary groan. Ms. Goodwitch declares you the winner, and you and Yang excuse yourselves you change back into your uniforms.

You step out of the showers still drying your hair with a towel. The men’s locker room seems to be deserted, but as you move towards your locker, you hear someone clear their throat. Yang is leaning against the row of lockers, dressed in the Beacon uniform, hair still wet from her own shower and a glare in her lilac eyes. You’re glad that you have the foresight to wear waterproof underwear on combat-class days, or this would be a very compromising position to be found in.

“So. What was that supposed to be?” Yang’s tone was alien in her voice. You had heard her angry, disappointed, and happy, but this was something else. A monotone that gave nothing away. Coming from the boisterous young woman, it sent uncomfortable tingling down your spine.

“What was what supposed to be?” you ask, pulling on your pants one leg at a time. “Oh, I dunno,” she snarks, temper flaring a bit, “the way you finished the fight in the most bullshit way possible? We both saw the aura meters. You could’ve won that fight straight up.”

You stop with your undershirt in your hands as you consider her question.

>A) God, how bratty can you get? “If you came here to complain about losing, I don’t want to hear it.”
>B) You were too afraid to get near her. “To be honest? I saw your semblance and I got scared.”
>C) You don’t take it easy on dangerous opponents. “You’re dangerous in close range. Keeping my distance and not thinking I could beat you at your own game was the safest option.”

>C) You don’t take it easy on dangerous opponents. “You’re dangerous in close range. Keeping my distance and not thinking I could beat you at your own game was the safest option.”

I also wanted to throw in something along the lines of "This is a game to you, isn't it?" or "This isn't a game to me." or "You've never had someone actually try to kill you before, have you?" but I don't think our social link with Yang is high enough to let that slip.

>>1736087
I also don't think it's high enough to get into a pun match with Yang, as much as I would love to. And I would. Whitley hasn't made a pun before onscreen, has he?

>>
Also, to be fair, she WAS dodging our shots for a while. She wasn't exactly helpless, and in that state a solid blow to the head would seemingly have been enough to lose us the fight.
>>
>>1736209
It was a single sentence back when we were being introduced to the characters, I think Ruby and Yang. It could've either been holding back a pun or a joke, I'm not too sure.
>>
>>1736044
It was a decision you had based in practicality, and you responded with an even tone as you pulled your shirt on, “You’re dangerous in close range. Keeping my distance and not thinking I could beat you at your own game was the safest option.” As you button the fabric, Yang gives you a searching once over, as if looking for the real answer somewhere written on your half finished uniform.

“That’s it?” She seems wholly unimpressed, or perhaps she simply doesn’t believe you. Either way, you throw on your tie and answer, “Of course it is. We went in to win, didn’t we? I’ve seen what you can do with those fists, you shattered a three foot block of solid ice if you’ll remember, and I wasn’t going to risk getting near them.” You punctuate the statement by tightening the necktie and pulling your jacket on. You close your locker and meet Yang’s eyes, now that you’re fully dressed.

“It wasn’t anything personal. I just had to take you seriously.” This time, your confession gets a small grin and a light punch on the shoulder. “Oh, man, I thought you were pissed about something! Seriously, that pillar stuff was just mean!” she laughs, and you adopt a teasing expression.

“Mean? Is that what you call getting outwitted?” Yang stops laughing, and for a moment you’re worried you offended her with some gentle trash-talk. Then you hear her mumble something. “Outwitted…” Yang’s shoulders start to shake and her stomach begins to convulse, and just as you’re starting to get worried, she lets out a peal of laughter.

“Outwitted!” Yang walks out of the locker room, laughing so hard that she has to clutch her stomach. The laughter echoes from the hall, and you listen to it carry on for quite a long time before you finally gather your supplies and move to the next class, carefully going over the conversation in your mind. Did you say something funny?

In all honesty, so long as she doesn't abruptly decide to *stop* trusting Whit, or go way out of her way to antagonize Weiss, or otherwise go *full* moron I'll consider it an improvement to canon.

Actually developing intimate friendships/relationships, sticking with her teammates even after Beacon falls (if it falls), helping Whitaker work to undermine the White Fang and figure out how to mend what Jacques has broken, or killing Adam in cold blood would all be welcome bonuses in my book.

Your feelings misled you. RWBYg already knows about him. A few of us admire his cynical approach but most of us are apathetic.

But having said that, I guess not all of us here are RWBYg.
>>
>>1738331
He was doing a Plinkett impression.
Also he does take into consideration who the audience is and how nobody seems to know who the show is mainly made for...
>>
>>1738336
That made for a good laugh.
>>
>>1738236
Eh, he makes a lot of valid points, a lot of which continue on into the rest of the chapters as well.

But I do think that trying to perform a full literary criticism of RWBY is like explaining to a nine year old that Santa Claus is not only not real, but dead. Very petty and entirely unnecessary.

The show is held together by duct tape and dreams, and that's part of the appeal. It's very much an auteur driven project. Everybody knows it's not going to win any awards without somebody having to make an hour long video to point it out.
>>
>>1738236
On the one hand, it comes off a bit too much like a hatchet job... like even though that was kinda the point.

On the other hand the season had a lot of shit that felt less amateurish and closer to genuinely dysfunctional. Like scripting, directing, and animating were all done by separate committees that never communicated. And the last minute changes only exacerbated that underlying problem.

The procession you lead down the streets of Vale is an art piece of contrast, penned by one Penny Polendina. She had invited you to explore the city as the excitement for next semester’s Vytal Festival began to flare in the form of decoration and salesmen. You had agreed, and Penny was so excited by the prospect that she invited Ciel. The Cadet can never escape the attention of her partner, and so Nora invited herself, as well as Ren. Pyrrha decided to join the rest of her team and come along without discussion, bringing your total from two to six.

Most of the walk consists of watching Nora and Penny gawk at whatever exciting thing catches their eye and occasionally pulling them away from it. You’re unsure if anyone (besides you) brought any money to buy anything, and none of the vendors at the impromptu bazaar are selling anything more interesting than a few trinkets you’re fairly certain at least one of your friends could have made, given the raw materials and an afternoon. That wasn’t really fair to the smith, though. He had no way of knowing that you knew Ruby.

The evening only began to turn towards something unexpected when Penny grabs Ciel’s arm and drags her towards a display of Atlesian machinery. Like her father’s puzzles, you have no idea what it is or what it does, but it seems sleek. You’re just glad Penny’s already failed to hide her interests, or you’d be worrying about her revealing her secret via her knowledge of engineering.

With implicit permission from the “host” of the gathering to leave the group behind, Nora mimics her actions with Ren, dragging him towards an exhibit distinctly Mistrali in origin, if only for the weapons on display. That vendor has set up on the opposite side of - and much further down the street from - the mechanic, leaving you standing in the middle of a small crowd with Pyrrha. You’ll be out here for a while. How do you plan to enjoy yourself?

>A) Follow after Penny and Ciel. It’ll be boring listening to them talk about tech you don’t understand, but you know them pretty well by now.
>B) Follow Nora and Ren. You haven’t gotten a chance to know either of them very well, and there’s no real pressure of secrets to keep or fame around them. You are here to have fun.
>C) Invite Pyrrha to browse with you. You wouldn’t want her to feel as if everyone ran off without her, and it’s an opportunity to get to know her beyond her reputation.
>D) Browse by yourself. There must be SOMETHING cool here.

Given what you know of Pyrrha, you doubt she’d be the type to feel particularly hurt about the group running off without her. Then again, all you know about Pyrrha is that she’s a popular and strong tournament fighter. Now would be a good time to add to that pile of knowledge. You tilt your head towards the winding road before you and ask, “Want to find something more interesting?” Pyrrha seems to think about it for a moment before agreeing, and the two of you move down the street.

The story is much the same down here, and nothing catches your eye and forces you to stop. Thankfully, you’ve got a conversation partner to push the burden of entertainment on. “What’s Mistral like?” you ask, genuinely curious. You know the Kingdom is incredibly diverse, and each Mistrali has a different answer to the question. What side of it had Pyrrha seen?

“It’s a… Hard city. Everyone smiles, and it’s colorful,” she says with a conceding tone while gesturing to the mostly beige walls of Vale, “but no one is your friend, and the paint isn’t changed so often because it becomes boring to look at, if you understand my meaning.” It surprised you, but it really shouldn’t have. Mistral had a reputation of violence. You suppose it’s surprising to hear that it’s something so obvious that even a local hero had to see it so often.

“It sounds rough.” Pyrrha smiles sadly as her eyes focus on something you can’t see. “It was,” she says, “but I suppose I’m grateful for that. I didn’t learn everything I know from Sanctum.” Again, a part of you knew that. “Nikos” wasn’t a name very well known outside of it’s one successful member, and in Mistral, if you aren’t on the top, you’re on the bottom. That didn’t mean it wasn’t surprising to hear.

>A) Empathize. “I can’t imagine what it was like, having to fight so young.”
>B) Change subjects. “Well, is there anything pleasant about Mistral?”
>C) Focus the discussion on Pyrrha’s career. “How do you become a four time champion?”
>D) Focus the discussion on Pyrrha herself. “I’m sure you don’t fight ALL the time.”

“I’m surprised to hear that you’d taken on a student.” Pyrrha seems to stiffen at the statement before instantly relaxing again. Had it been a secret? “I have no idea what you mean,” she says in an artificially leveled tone. Apparently it had. “Jaune?” you prompt, mostly to confirm you already knew. Pyrrha hesitates, just long enough for someone to consider how they should react, before raising her eyebrows in realization.

“Oh! You mean our practice bouts?” You’re sure she knew exactly what you meant the first time, but you play along and nod. Pyrrha forces herself to laugh a little, “Well, yes, I suppose he’s been learning a thing or two, but we’re honestly just practicing.” You give a neutral hum, neither vocally accepting nor denying her assertion. You aren’t sure why Pyrrha would want to keep training Jaune a secret. If that’s what was really going on, it would be totally innocent, but it’s all you can think of. Maybe she didn’t want everyone else asking for lessons.

“What about you, Whitaker?” You quirk an eyebrow at her before you ask, “What about me?” Pyrrha adopts a knowing, and teasing, expression as she explains. “Jaune’s told me you’ve been helping him as well,” she says in a voice somewhere between gentle ribbing and honest curiosity. You nod, conceding the knowledge without a fight.

“What exactly have you been teaching him?”

>A) Tell the exact truth. “Confidence, mostly. I’m not sure what he’s going to do with it.”
>B) Have some fun with your answer. “Girls.”

You shrug and decide to fudge the truth a bit, “Confidence, mostly. I’m not sure what he’s going to do with it.” Jaune may want to date your sister, but that was between him, Weiss, and (now) you. Pyrrha offers a small smile and in a light voice, says, “Well, he could certainly use it. It seems like most of Jaune’s problems come down to him not believing that he’s capable of solving them.” You think you can hear something else in those words, some sort of meaning behind it, but you lack context. Without that, there’s not way to be sure, so you let it go.

The walk continues with salesman after salesman failing to impress either of you. The bazaar has set itself up on only a few blocks, so by the time you’ve at least looked towards everything, you’ve circled back towards the group. Ren and Nora are chatting with their team leader while Penny scans the crowd and gives a wide grin and a wave when she notices you approaching.

The six of you mull around the crowd for a little while and eventually come to rest alongside one of the closed buildings. Ciel is browsing something on her scroll while the rest of her team have a quiet conversation you don’t pay attention to. Penny seems uncomfortable, keeping her hands to her sides and opening and closing them in a pattern, but before you can offer a conversation to distract her, your own scroll vibrates. It’s a single message from Winter.

“Where are you?” You check and send the address.

“Are you alone?” The second response denies it, and offers a list of who's present. If it were anyone else, you would’ve kept it to yourself, but Winter would find out if she wanted to know and disregard it if it wasn’t important.

“Stay there. All of you. We need to talk to you.”

You’re sitting in a police interrogation room with a warm cup and Winter on the other side of the table. You’d imagine this situation would’ve had been much tenser if your sister wasn’t the one talking to you. You’d hate to imagine what Penny must be feeling right now.

“Whitaker,” she begins in a soft voice, “I’ve been informed that you and your friends are the ones who tipped us off to Torchwick’s involvement. I need you to go over everything you know, in detail.”

It had been a few days since the events, and you struggled to remember them. In the end, you offered a semi-complete picture of events you were certain that could have any holes in it patched up by your friends. Winter nods along as she writes down everything you’re saying. “And this blonde friend of yours,” she asks, “she knows it was Junior?” You nod, as sure as you had ever been that Yang knows the man.

Winter isn’t happy about the revelation though and leans back in her chair with a hand over her eyes. “This complicates things,” she mutters.

“How?” You had thought a witness pointing him out would be enough to spur the police into action, but Winter shakes her head, probably guessing what you’re thinking. “Because Junior is one of the few men in this Kingdom I can’t touch,” she explains with a bitter edge. “He’s got people all over the city, and I’m fairly sure some of the police as well. Every time we come for him, he knows it hours in advance.” Winter taps her pen against the table in irritation, but you can see the look in her eyes change as she directs that anger somewhere useful.

Before you can begin to wonder, Winter rips a page out of her notebook and begins writing. “I know this may be a hard question,” she says, “and difficult to answer out loud. That’s why we’ll write it down instead.” She continues to scribble and continues to explain, “Whitaker, if you think any of your friends may be helping Junior, you need to tell me.” She passes the paper to you and you read her true intentions, hidden from anyone who may listen to the conversation.

“If we’re going to hit Junior, no one needs to know we’re coming. I can’t move without him knowing. I don’t want to ask, but I’ve got nothing else. Can your team catch him?”

>A) Write an affirmative. “Just tell me where you want us.”

You scribble a quick affirmative before passing it back to Winter. It takes her a moment to read, but when she does, she smiles and sighs in relief. She writes a response and, after a few minutes, slides the paper towards you.

“We have to move quickly, before he gets nervous enough to leave Vale. You know your friends better than I do, so bring who you want, but more people means more people to coordinate. You’ve got a time limit. By tomorrow night, absolute latest.” Below that, she’s drawn a crude map of Junior’s Club as well as its address. It’s a single-floor building with the majority taken by the dance floor and bar, with a smaller platform opposite of the main entrance. There are back rooms, possibly for management or more illicit forms of night-life entertainment, but none of them are marked. You’ve got to make a plan with nothing but your friends and this piece of paper, Whitaker. What have you got?

From Brother himself
>Coordinators will be communicating with the others to make sure the massive group moves as a unit and without letting Junior know you're coming. You can't rely on police support for that, since they're compromised, so you have to sacrifice some fire power to make sure the whole moves as a cohesive unit.

She didn't help us out on our missions when we asked, hasn't gone to any of our meetings, has been missing for weeks, and hasn't interacted with any of us at all. She seemingly has been avoiding her team leader, Ruby, and her other teammates as well.
Shouldn't we make such a critical mission based on trust, not lack of suspicion? We don't trust Liquorice and by that logic we should bring some of the other acquaintances we possibly met along like Sun as well.
Which reminds me, we might want to ask Ciel and the other team leader, Ruby, on how much she trusts her teammates.

Crud, sorry guys, I just now thought of something, but it's too late to change things.

Shouldn't somebody keep an eye on Liquorice? Maybe we should have left others with her so a bunch of people leaving don't look suspicious.

As it stands now, she's gonna know we're on to her... And if we're not watching her, she could beat us to Junior or something...

...Or maybe not, since she doesn't know about this operation yet. I think? Maybe I'm just being paranoid?

It’s almost midnight by the time everyone has spoken to the police to give their full statements and returned to Beacon, but you can’t let them have a break quite yet. Under normal circumstances, you wouldn’t think of breaking into anywhere, but you’ve got a lot to get through and a chalkboard would be very useful, so you lead Penny and a tired CNRP to a rarely used classroom door and unlock the simple bolt with a trick Winter taught you, involving a card and a pinch of Fire dust.

You show the rest to their seats and send a message to Ruby and the rest of your own team, and after another few minutes of waiting and quiet arguing with Weiss for waking her up, all the participants of your plan are settled and ready for you to begin.

“I’m sure everyone here remembers a few weeks ago, when all of us worked together to discover a plot to rob Beacon of the wealth kept in some imaginary vault. Most of us,” you say as your gaze drifts over Yang, then Nora, “decided to turn over our findings to the proper authorities. Tonight, I have been informed by one of these authorities that leaving it to them is no longer possible.” The entire group wakes up at your narration of events, and Yang gives you a smug smile when she’s sure you’re looking.

“My sister, Winter, has been put in charge of this investigation, but finds herself stymied by corruption in the local police force. She’s decided to reach out to us, as it is extremely unlikely that anyone here works for Junior, our target.” Yang fully sits up, more attentive than you had ever seen her at her actual lectures, even the ones at a reasonable hour.

“He’s the next link in finding out what, exactly, is going on. We’ve been asked to arrest him for questioning. To do so, we’ve been granted limited protection from legal repercussions, including breaking and entering, assault, and vigilantism.” Yang and Nora mirror each other’s feral grins, but you’re happy to see that everyone else is taking this idea very seriously.

“We’ll be moving in tomorrow, during the day, to minimize risk to any civilians who may want to attend this club tomorrow night. I’ve divided us into two teams.” You grab a piece of untouched chalk and begin writing names on the board. The explanation of the plan goes smoothly, with only a few questions throughout the process. In the end, your plan isn’t very complicated, and while a few, notably Jaune and Ruby, seem unsure about the entire ordeal, most of them have internalized their roles and have accepted them. You can see Ren nodding along and Ciel taking a few notes on what she believes will be important. Penny gives you a small, encouraging smile and a thumbs up. You appreciate the confidence booster but don't believe you need it. You’re pretty sure nothing will go wrong.

Okay, so... This may be the worst I've ever run a session for Gemini. I've said it several times, but I'd like to reiterate that I'll be taking a few days off from running. I'm pretty sure this is what everyone meant when they talked about "burning myself out". Well, actually, I'm pretty sure they meant I'd lose interest, but if you'd excuse the Futurama reference, "the spirit is willing but the flesh is spongy and bruised."

So, yeah, I'm taking a break from running for a few days. Still, Q&A for anyone who'd like to ask.

It's pretty cool how Whitaker has effectively mobilised most of the Beacon first years. Whereas in canon Team RWBY generally went at it alone when investigating Torchwick, Whitaker's doing it with way more manpower.

The villains are some powerful and crafty bastards, but we just might have a better chance against them here.

>>1746283
No worries, buddy. I for one am very happy with the quality of the quest so far, so the last thing I want is for you to burn yourself out and the quality to dip. Take a few days to rejuvenate.

Anyway, I have a half question, half suggestion. The Vytal Tournament characters actually start showing up at Beacon mid-Volume 2, since by then CEM is there posing as Haven students. My question is, could we potentially come across tournament students at the prom and such?

No worries if you feel they're too unimportant to deal with. I confess that my main motivation here is to get some laughs interacting with ARBN, BRNZ, etc.

Don't worry, this is a nonissue on /qst/

Bumping a quest thread is nothing worth banning for. It's one of the most common things to do, but best kept in time where the thread is nearing page 10.

"Banned on so many boards"? That's untrue. Generals (but not the show itself) are banned from /co/ during its off-season. And the show isn't allowed on /a/ because it's western, which isn't the fault of 4chan posters. Otherwise, I can't think of any board where an on-topic RWBY thread would be removed just for being RWBY.
