--------------------------------------------------------------------

If you were to describe the USS Thornback in one word, comfortable wouldn't even come close to that word.

The cramped submarine of the Tench class was not built for comfort anyways, the 84 souls residing inside this metal coffin spent most of their time shirtless or in vests and shorts, as the dark innards of the submarine remained somehow hotter than the sun-drenched deck. There were not enough bunks for everybody, so the crew "hot bunked", where-in multiple men would share a bed and would take turns sleeping in the bed according to their work scheduled.

Thankfully, as a passenger on this journey you didn't have to abide by this rule.

The journey had begun as soon as you had grabbed your weaponry from Camp Hancock's armoury. You had grabbed your equipment and some ammunition and left in a hurry. Yourself and your unit quickly arriving at the main gate and boarding a deuce and a half bound for Congree Army Airfield. You and your unit sat at the back, close to the cab, with the rest of the truck filled up with empty crates. Both to keep you covered from any prying eyes and to keep up the outward appearance that Camp Hancock was simply a boring supply base, not the home of the OSS's most dangerous units. Your truck stopped 3 times, 2 to fill up on gas and the final stop on the base's flight line. Where your skytrain waited for you. The former civilian airliner having been taken into service as a transport plane, with all of it's airline trappings remaining, barring the paint job and the hostesses of course. The trip cross country took nearly a day, and only a few hours after landing, you were back in the air again in for the flight to Hawaii. Finally, around 2 days after you were given the mission, the submarine cast off.

The trip had been fraught with danger, from the Japanese base at Midway to their roaming patrols around the numerous pacific islands. Thankfully, you weren't detected so your arrival was to be unexpected by all aside from a pair of OSS teams in the area that you would be landing. One of the teams was the one that you were to meet up with for a briefing on the area, while the other would take your place on the submarine and leave the area.

As the submarine began to surface, you stood with your team by the forward hatch, ready to get on deck and disembark as soon as the hatch opened.

"You two doing allright?" Logan asked as he held onto one of the handrails with his left hand, his other keeping the bag of ordanance that he had packed steady as the boat surfaced.

>"I'm doing well, all things considered."

"I'll be better once we're outside, and out of this slow cooker." You replied simply, earning you an agreeing grunt out of Kyouko. Unlike you and Logan, she had taken the worst of the trip out here in spite of spending the most time outside on the deck.

"Breaking the surface in ten seconds!" An officer called down the boat to you and your eager squad. All of you braced and waited, just a scant few seconds later the boat breached the surface. Your stomach lurched as the boat jumped out of the water by a good few feet as the vessel breached the surface. The boat settled back into the water as the crewman by the hatch climbed up the ladder and began to quickly open the hatch. Once the crewman was on deck, you quickly followed him out into the moonlight.

The submarine sat on the calm ocean water, the beach a good few hundred meters away. A signalling light from the top of the sail flicked on and off as you put your packed bag on the deck and climbed out. The weapons and equipment inside making little sound as they were moved around. As you lent back down to take Logan and Kyouko's bags a light from the shore responded to the signal from the ship. In the pale moonlight you could just about make out a group of people dragging a boat towards the water.

Your team quickly mustered on the deck in the cool midnight air. The full moon being both a blessing and a curse. While you could see better than you would on any other night, it worked both ways. Any potential hunters could see you better too. Part of you wished for the reassuring weight of a weapon in your hand, but you were reluctant to unpack any of your weapons before you made landfall. A few crewmen behind you manning the 5 inch deck gun behind you in case a Japanese patrol boat made an appearance. Just behind the sail you knew that a pair of 20mm cannons were trained skywards to protect the ship from aircraft. Time seemed to move slower as you waited for the small boat to arrive, but after 5 long minutes, the boat finally arrived. A crewman threw a rope to the men in the boat, who grabbed and let the crew pull them in. You waited for the agents to climb out before walking over to one of them.

"Do you have the directions to the observation team?" You asked one of the men, who simply passed you a satchel.

"This contains all of the directions along with some information that we've gathered in the area. Good luck out there, the Japs have been bringing in flamethrower teams to flush out the Chinese communists." The agent said tiredly as you took the bag. You both exchanged a nod before he moved past you to the hatch into the submarine. You didn't wait to see if his fellows would follow him as you made your way into the boat.

The inflatable boat having more in common with a pilot's survival raft than the equipment for an elite infiltration team. A small pump and a bag inside the boat being all that was needed to both inflate the boat and pack it away neatly. The paddles in the boat being the only things that couldn't be packed away. Your team quickly climbed in and cast off, you and Logan taking the paddles while Kyouko kept watch.

As soon as you hit the shore, you quickly jumped out and dragged the raft onto the dry shore. The rest of the team jumping out and pulling their sidearms as you hauled the small raft to the treeline. Logan wordlessly took the raft and began to deflate it as Kyouko kept watch, giving you time to retrieve the weaponry that you had packed.

It doesn't really matter if you're too weighed down right now as you're probably going to work out of a base camp in the region where you can leave stuff to be relatively safe while you perform missions. The problem however is that if you have a base camp and the Japanese attack it then all of your stuff there will be taken by the Japanese. If you want to keep all of your stuff on you and essentially go nomadic then you'l have to pack light.

If you want to pack lighter and go nomadic or if you want to keep the heavy load that you're going for now then I'll give you all another half an hour to an hour as I should have included this in the post.

The first weapon out was your Luger, the weapon already loaded and fitted with it's suppressor. The weapon and it's holster quickly finding itself hanging off your waist. You quickly pulled the pistol and racked the toggle, chambering a round, before returning the pistol to it's holster. The second weapon out being you Colt Monitor, the automatic rifle being the exact same one that you had carried into the Märchenland assault. Even though you had changed it remained the same, it was still capable of putting down accurate fire at decent range. Though because it still lacked a suppressor, you were more thoughtful about it's use. Unlike the mission in Germany, you had to stay hidden. The next weapons to be unpacked was Logan's auto-5 shotgun and his monitor rifle, both of which you quickly loaded and set aside for you comrade. All of you were carrying different loads, with you hauling the guns, the explosives, some ammunition and the accumulated intelligence papers. The latter being a number of assorted papers, notes and maps. All contained within a pair of satchels.

The final weapon out was something new. Another pistol, this one was an automatic version of the standard colt 45 pistol. And on the exterior it didn't look too different aside from a selector switch on one side of the gun and a large muzzle break. The weapon was a custom Lebman 1911 machine pistol. Apparently a favourite of gangsters before the war. This particular weapon being one of a batch of 5 that had been procured by the OSS for field use and reverse engineering. The quatermaster at the armoury had been in the process of hacking off the forward grips when you had taken the gun and some extra magazines. You quickly loaded the pistol with a custom 14 round magazine that the quartermaster had whipped up, and passed the gun to Kyouko. Learning how to effectively handle the powerful little gun was something that she had done while spending so much time on the submarine's deck during the trip out here. The boat having a fairly large supply of .45 ACP among other different types of ammunition.

"What's the plan boss?" Logan asked as he continued to force the air out of the raft while you pulled a red-lensed torch from your pack and used it to illuminate a map inside the pack that the leaving team had given you.

"From the looks of it, we have two routes to the observation team's outpost. We can either head their on foot, where it'll take the better part of a few days to a week to get there. Alternately, we can try and divert to the IJA base at Ganzhou. If we can steal a vehicle from them then we can hopefully cut our transit time down, but it'll put the Japanese forces in the Area on alert." You explained, the base that you'd be meeting up at was in the mountain range between Ganzhou and Chenzhou. The team was the only one assigned to this region, but were in contact with teams in the rest of china. They'd help you get to where you needed to go.

"Are there any other Japanese bases in the region?" Kyouko asked quietly as you unpacked her Thompson submachine gun, a magazine already seated. As she racked the weapon's bolt, you looked over the map again.

"Yeah, there's a base at Hengyang. Why do you ask?" You confirmed as you took one of a satchel charge from both Kyouko and Logan's packs. Re-distributing the spread of equipment.

"We could take one of their supply trucks as they move between the bases. If they aren't expecting it for at least a few hours, maybe a day, then we'll have more time to cover ground before they sent out search teams." Kyouko suggested as you finished securing the satchel charges, giving you a confident nod as she noticed that you were lightening her load just a bit.

"Those search parties are a problem though. If they send out a team to look for a missing supply truck then they may stumble across the team's base camp. And then our whole mission will be a bust." Logan pointed out as he finished bundling the raft up into it's tiny bag and began to secure it to his backpack.

"And what would you suggest? We won't be served best by simply walking there, our food and water supplies would be ran dry by the time we got there." Kyouko argued while you picked up your Monitor. While it wasn't good for staying stealthy, if you had to use it then staying hidden obviously wouldn't work out.

"They'll have supplies there for us Kyouko. The least we can do is go there without kicking the hornet's nest." Logan stated simply as he took slung his shotgun over his shoulder and picked up his Monitor. The automatic rifle sitting in a loose grip.

"We'll head to the OSS base, if we make good time it'll only take around a week on foot, factoring in rest stops and the likes." You decided as you put away the map and the torch. Both of your teammates nodded and fell in behind you, though Kyouko seemed to move a bit more sluggishly. Apparently a bit put out at not getting her way.

That, or she wasn't looking forwards to the trek to the OSS base. It could really be either one.

Regardless, your team was soon making good time through the jungle. The 3 of you making little sound as you continued on, all of your equipment being packed well enough that they didn't rub against each other. The only sound being made by twigs snapping underfoot and by branches moving against each other. All of you had rested fairly well during the final leg of your transit out here, and as such your team could continue walking on for a good few hours before the fatigue started to set in. You knew that you and Kyouko could continue on for much longer by supplementing your physical strength with magic, but you didn't want to wear down your magic unnecessarily. In addition, Logan had no magic to call upon, so your use of magic would cause him to lag behind as fatigue affected him. So a few hours later, as the sun began to rise you all stopped a few meters away from a small lake, still safely within the treeline.

As you began to look around for a place to sit, Logan hissed his warning. "Contact, fifty meters away on the shore, right from our front. Japanese patrol, eight men."

You quickly ducked behind a large tree, a number of bushes keeping you better hidden as you melted into the terrain. The squad was armed with an assortment of rifles and a single machine gun. They walk lazily down the shore, their weapons either slung over their shoulders or otherwise not ready. The young officer at the front seemed to be speaking enthusiastically to his men as they walked, but the men seemed to be ignoring him. All of them bar the officer looked very tired, as if they had just gotten up.

"What is he saying?" You quietly asked Kyouko, knowing that she was nearby.

"He's giving them a speech about honour and the Bushido code of honour." Kyouko hissed back, her voice so low that you almost had to strain to hear it. "Should we take them out or let them pass?"

>Gun the patrol down, kill them quickly.

"Keep low and let them pass. We can't deal with them right now." You stated as you slung the monitor over your shoulder and pulled the suppressed Luger. While you didn't want to fight, you didn't want to be caught unprepared if they saw you. The safety staying on only as long as it took you to bury yourself lower into the jungle.

The patrol took a little over a minute to reach where you and your squad was hiding. You held your breath and willed for the tired soldiers to simply ignore you, your squad was still a good 20 meters into the forest. The machine gunner, the most awake of the unit,
glanced nervously into the forest as the squad walked past where you lay. Thankfully, the man didn't see anything and continued on. Your team waited for another quarter of an hour to make sure that the squad didn't return. But when there was nothing else, your team rose from their concealed positions.

"Why is there a patrol all the way out here?" Logan asked as you made your way towards the shore, looking to see where the squad went.

"The officer was giving them a speech as they walked. Maybe it was his idea for a team building exercise." Kyouko suggested, before then continuing. "Or it could be an early morning patrol."

"But why would they be patrolling all the way out here?" You asked as you reached the treeline, you looked out across the lake and the shore, but you found nothing but boot-prints.

"Maybe they're looking for communist insurgents?" Logan suggested. The squad was silent for a minute, before he spoke up again. This time sounding rather enthusiastic.

"Wait, in order to get all the way out here they would have to have a vehicle. We could take it and cut our transit time in half." Logan suggested as he reached down to pick up his pack.

"Doesn't that go against the whole idea of not kicking the hornet's nest?" Kyouko asked, her confusion at Logan's seeming U-turn on tactics being rather evident.

"By the time the Japs find the bodies, we'll be so far away that the fallout shouldn't affect the area around the OSS camp. And if it's gonna take us a week to get to the base on foot then the vehicle certainly won't have enough fuel to reach the camp, but it should have enough fuel to take a chunk out of the trip without tipping off the Japs to where we're actually going. By the time they find the vehicle, we should be long gone." Logan reasoned as he shifted the pack on his shoulder.

>Stalk the patrol and take their vehicle. And their lives.

"That sounds like a decent idea, I highly doubt that the squad is even meant to be out here in the first place. So it may be harder for them to be found, even more so if we hide the bodies." You agreed as you shrugged off your backpack, holding the heavy pack in one hand as you walked over to Logan. You left the pack at his feet.

"I'll stay here and watch the gear then." Logan huffed as Kyouko walked over and dropped her pack next to yours. You shrugged at Logan's dismay as you retrieved a pair of magazines for the Monitor from your backpack. Just in case you needed to fight at range.

"Me and Kyouko have our... abilities... to aid us in the fight. We're better suited for silent, close in combat." You explained, before looking over to Kyouko. "Do you have a suppressor for your pistol?"

She simply nodded and pulled out a large suppressor, you recognised it as a 1920's Maxim suppressor, a type that was fairly common in the OSS's armouries for pistols and submachine guns. They did tend to heat up fairly quickly when compared with more advanced suppressors, but they were still fairly useful. Unfortunately, this type of suppressor wasn't available for the monitor due to it's poor heat management with higher velocity rounds. As such you had to wait for the guys down in RnD to finish their design before you could use your monitor like how she could use her thompson. Kyouko simply drew her Lebman gun and screwed the device into place. The fore-blade at the front of the suppressor lining up with the rear sights on the pistol perfectly.

"Well that answers that." You shrugged as you left behind almost all of the equipment that you were carrying. Instead opting to carry the monitor, the luger, your boot knife and 3 magazines each. Kyouko mirrored you in her loadout, but instead taking her thompson in the place of your monitor.

"Packing a bit light are we?" Logan joked as you turned to leave.

"Not in your wildest dreams..." You stated confidently as a purple flame blossomed into life in front of your eye. The scabbard that held your massive sword hanging off your back. And just as soon as it appeared, the flame before your eye winked out. A light in the corner of your vision confirming that Kyouko had summoned her weapon too. And with your comrade shadowing you, you walked out onto the beach.

Thankfully, you didn't have to search for too long before you found the patrol. It took you just over half an hour of quickly moving through the forest at a brisk pace, following the boot-prints in the sand until they trailed off into the jungle. And by that point you only had to follow the sounds of yelling in Japanese.

You found the patrol stood behind a transport truck, looking up at their squat sergeant as he berated them from his position in the bed of the truck. You and Kyouko had no trouble getting closer, close enough that you could easily reach them before they had a chance to try and shoot you.

"What is he berating them on?" You asked as you took the suppressed luger into your left hand and rested your right hand on the hilt of your sword. If you were good enough, then hopefully you would be able to down a couple of them with your pistol before you clashed into them.

"Not showing proper decorum and proper spirit. Fairly important stuff for such an honour bound nation." Kyouko explained dully, before quickly adding. "As you can probably tell, I'm not a fan."

>Keep watching the patrol for now, maybe the squad will get sick of their sergeant's shit and beat him up. It would be a good distraction.

You watched the Japanese squad for a couple of seconds longer as you picked out those who you would leave alive for questioning. While you knew that any survivors were likely to talk about what happened here today, you doubted that they would be believed. Once those seconds were up, you lent over to Kyouko.

"Leave the sergent and the machine gunner alive. We'll need them for infomation." You ordered as you returned your pistol to it's holdster. While the sergent seemed to be fairly invested into his honour, he also seemed to bee the greenest. You guessed that he would either break after watching his unit get butchered, if not then you'd have to try something else to loosen his tounge. The machine gunner on the other hand seemed very jumpy. To the point where there was only two explanations, fear or paranoia. You could work with the former, but not the latter.

"And the rest?" Kyouko asked as she flicked the safety onto her pistol and tucked it away. Mirroring you not simply to mimic you, but because like you she wanted to better control her two-handed weapon.

"Kill them quickly. We don't want them getting a shot off and possibly alerting other squads in the area to our presence." You stated as you unsheathed your Zweihänder, the gigantic weapon feeling comfortable as you took it with both hands. You looked at Kyouko, locking eyes with her for a second, before the flame returned. It now burned it's standard blue as stolen magic coursed through your body. You didn't have to wait for Kyouko, as she took this as the cue to charge. You now shadowed behind her by only a few steps, both of your weapons raised and ready to spill blood.

To his credit, the sergeant responded first. Shouting to his men and reaching for his weapons. His soldiers where able to see you both coming, but the last thing that any of them had expected was to be ambushed by two people in American fatigues, with a sword and a spear and flames billowing from their eyes. They most hesitated for a second, as if they were unable to believe what they were seeing. The sergeant and one of the men at the front didn't hesitate however, and tried to raise their weapons. But they fumbled for just long enough for both you and Kyouko to get in amongst them. The squad tried to back up away from you, but they were only able to get a foot back by the time you made your first strike.

You brought your massive weapon around in a brutal slash, the sharpened hunk of steel cutting from right to left, and neatly bisecting two of the closest soldiers. Both fell silently in pieces as your Zweihänder cut through flesh, bone and cartilage with an unearthly ease. They didn't scream, but the men behind them did. Next to you, Kyouko from low and impaled the soldier that had been trying to raise his rifle. The sovnya's dual blades punching through the soldier's chest and lifting him off his feet.

With a brutal flick, she tossed the corpse into the sergeant as he tried to level his gun at her, knocking him back into the truck. His pistol dropping out of his hands, and into the dirt. Meanwhile, you had already brought your sword around again for another slash. This one neatly bisecting a soldier's rifle as he tried to raise it at you. The blade passing through the end of the stock and into his shoulder, taking his arm off with a meaty thud. You brought your sword back again, and stabbed through the soldier's head as he fell down. The sword going through is head, and into the chest of the soldier behind him.

It was at that point, that you set the blade on fire.

The magical blue flame coursed up the bade and engulfed the man who you had just stabbed in the chest. He screamed in pain as the flames engulfed his body and flash-cooked him. As you pulled the blade clean, the charred corpse dropped to the ground. The two soldiers left before you were the machine gunner and a lone rifleman. The former having taken the smart choice of dropping his heavy weapon and running away while the latter stood in place screaming.

You hit the screaming soldier in the face with the pommel of your Zweihänder. The force knocking him out as Kyouko sprinted after the machine gunner. While you were fast now, Kyouko was like a damn bullet. She quickly caught up with the fleeing soldier and tackled him. The soldier screamed for a second, before Kyouko knocked him out.

"GAIJIN!" A voice yelled from inside the truck, you turned and raised your sword and found yourself facing the sergeant from before, who stood there holding a sword as he barked his challenge. "BATTLE WITH HONOUR!"

For a couple of seconds, the pair of you stared at one-another. This lowly man staring into you without fear, in spite of his squad lying hacked to pieces around you. And the smell of charred flesh from the one man who you had set on fire. And after weighing up the pros and cons, you dismissed the flame from before your eye.

"Fine, I'll still beat you regardless." You stated confidently as the sergeant dropped down from the truck as you backed up, giving him some space to come down to your level. You raised your sword to a ready position as he did the same. The pair of you waited for a couple of seconds, before you clashed blades.

Both of your blades clashed with a crash. The blades locking together a your now mundane weapon stopped in it's slash at his arm. You brought your weapon back and quickly swung it to the side to block an incoming stab from your opponent's sword. He pulled back as you tried to lunge at him, only just avoiding your stab. He brought up his blade and tried to knock you sword out of your hand. You held onto it, and only just brought it into position as he tried to take your head of. Your blade holding firm, and keeping you from loosing your head.

"Weak gaijin." The sergeant hissed as your blades were locked together. You simply grunted and pushed him back, before slashing at him brutally, putting him on the back foot as you kept hacking at him, forcing him to keep on the defensive as he was forced back unit he was against the back of the truck. You brought your sword back and brought it in a strong overhead strike. At the last second however, your opponent dived to the side, you couldn't stop in time and your sword crashed into the wooden bed-door, getting stuck.

The officer grinned maliciously as he straightened up and brought his sword into an over head striking position. And with a yell he brought the sword down, forcing you to bring your arm up to block the strike with your vambrace. The steel armour blocking the strike as you dove back, tugging the sword free from it's trapping in the truck. The sergeant said nothing, but his angry expression telling you that he was not amused at the unexpected armour. You weren't showing it, but you knew that if you kept this tied up, you'd eventually loose by simply exhausting yourself.

You had to change this up.

You brought up your sword again, blocking an incoming strike from the sergeant, the two blades locking together for a few seconds. The sergeant glaring at you as your swords were locked in place, neither of you willing to back down.

At which point, you decided to cheat.

The blue flame returned to it's spot in front of your left eye with a small thunder-crash. The sergeant had a second to look surprised before you took a hand off your sword's hilt, and punched him in the face.

You were never one for this kind of honour anyways.

The fist darted into his face, and the force snapped his head back. He staggered back for a few seconds dazed, prompting you to punch him again. A wet crunching sound marked your success as this time however, he fell backwards, landing in a puddle of his soldier's blood as blood bled from his nose. Unconscious.

"You know, you could have done that before he almost killed you." Kyouko stated as she dragged the unconscious form of the machine gunner towards you by his foot. Her sovnya resting against her shoulder.

"I wanted a challenge. I guess that it would be better to use magic with the Zweihänder regardless." You shrugged as you took the officer's weapons from him. The sword and it's sheath going into the back of the truck. You climbed into the back of the truck and looted the gear from the corpse inside before throwing it out.

"Someone has to go and get Logan. Do you want me to do it or do you want me to watch these idiots?" Kyouko asked as you tossed the looted corpse closer to the treeline.

"That depends on if these idiots have any rope." You stated simply as you walked back towards the truck. A quick check in one of the equipment lockers underneath one of the benches however, revealed that there was some to hand.

"Sure, I'll handle all of this shit. You go get Logan and get back here quick." You stated as you gestured back to the pile of corpses and knocked out IJA soldiers. Kyouko nodded at you, before turning on her heel and running off into the forest. Leaving you silently alone.

You quickly divided up your tasks and prioritised them. The first order of business being to tie up the prisoners, leaving them out in the middle of the dirt road. The next order of business being to search the prisoners and the corpses for weapons, you didn't want the former to have any chance to escape or attack you, and you didn't want to leave behind any valuable weapons and ammunition on the corpses.

As you were searching the corpse of the man who you had hacked the arm off of, you heard a groan from one of the prisoners. You looked over, and noticed that the sergeant was starting to wake up. He shook his head to try and clear his grogginess, and only succeeded in spreading more blood around from his broken nose.

"Dirty Gaijin..." The sergeant spat venomously as he saw you. "... dishonourable swine."

You simply stared at the irate sergeant for a few seconds, before simply smiling at him. The smile of a salesman that had just played someone for a fool. You had gotten to see this first-hand when you went with Klara to view some houses. The OSS allowing you out with her to keep up the idea that the two of you were a couple. A cover that Logan and Kyouko certainly had a lot of fun with when they found out about the incident from you.

You never mentioned to them how... enthusiastic she was to fulfil that role. You would also never mention it to them, even under torture.

Regardless of how Klara acted, the two of you did have one disagreement on what house would buy. Even though you were under orders to specifically to back her decisions. This came with one of the houses in a small town just outside of Alberta. You were put off by the salesman's smile when Klara had revealed that she was very interested in the house. The smile was rather off putting, and reminded you too much of past SS officers. After talking to some of the neighbours that the house had been uninhabited for a good few months after a break-in went wrong and the family of 5 were all killed. Before then, the previous owners had died from carbon monoxide poisoning. And even before them, the previous owner had died after she was hit by a truck. Her husband and two sons having died in the first world war. So considering the house's general bad luck, you and Klara decided to pass it over. Eventually, she ended up with a two-storey flat in downtown Alberta. Partially because the flat next door was also unoccupied and the OSS could base a team in there to watch over her.

After a few seconds of fixing this sergeant with the smile, you returned back to looting the dead. Finding a packed of decent cigarettes in the pocket of one of the soldiers. A small bottle of what smelled like alcohol in the ammunition pouch of another. A small tin of what you assumed were candies in the pocket of a bisected soldier. And other oddities to add to those.

"Uncultured pig, only you Americans would pick from the dead. Like some disgusting vulture." The sergeant grumbled, you continued to ignore him, now moving on to sorting the accumulated loot. Unloading the guns, sorting the ammunition and grenades, and other such stuff.

"My father was right, you disgusting westerners are vile and stupid creatures. Have you no shame? Have you no dignity?" The sergeant continued on, now sounding even more offended that you weren't responding to him.

>"You gotta do what you gotta do."
>"Don't presume to talk to me about honour, we all know what happened at Palawan, Laha, and Bangka Island."

Load of honor you had ransacking and pillaging the unarmed peasants in the countryside on your march to Nanjing

"A load of honour you had ransacking and pillaging all of those dangerous unarmed peasants in the countryside on your march to Nanjing. Don't presume to talk to me about honour, we all know what happened at Palawan, Laha, and Bangka Island. Your nation know nothing of honour, in spite of your perversion towards it. Hell, you idiots wouldn't know about honour if it came over and raped your wife. As your army have done to so many people!" You stated coldly, naming a trio of the many known war crimes performed by the Japanese. You wouldn't bring up Wake Island, Midway, and the war crimes of their navy as they weren't strictly applicable.

"And why should the glorious Imperial Japanese Military show mercy to the weaklings that dare to face us? War is not worth fighting if you cannot make those that you conquer immediately subservient. The only people worthy of this world are us Japanese, all others are beneath us!" The sergeant declared incredulously, though his point of view didn't really surprise you. Many in the SS had a similar point of view.

"And yet, many people in the German Reich share a similar point of view, believing that they are the only ones fit to rule the world." You stated drily as you bundled the riles together, securing them up with a bet and shoving them into the truck.

"Well, once we have reduced the world to just us and the Reich, we'll deal with them. In the same way that we are dealing with all of you!" The sergeant stated as you unpacked one of the equipment boxes, transferring it's contents to another and putting the filled box away. The grenades quickly being put away into their new home.

"To be honest, if things come to that then I hope that I'm still around. Just so that I can watch the Germans dismantle your little empire." You stated simply, you didn't say however that the chances of the Reich and it's allies surviving were too high. If you thought about it, that fact alone just justified you doing whatever shit was required to win.

"Really, and why would they win? What would cause the traitor to their homeland to take it's side?" The sergeant asked sarcastically as you put the box of grenades away.

"Two reasons. Firstly, their tech is superior to yours in every way. I served in the German military, I have used and seen the technology that they have at their disposal, it it is far superior to the pathetic shit that you have." You listed off your reasons as you wrapped up the sheathed knives and bayonets. The weapons clinking against each other as you continued. "Secondly, unlike Japan they actually try to integrate captured cultures into their military. Either indoctrinating them in, bribing them or promising them political power. Japan on the other hand rules only with an iron fist, and doesn't attempt to give those under your empire's boot a chance to achieve something greater. And if all of the people in the empire hate the ruling class's guts, then they will be even more likely to rise up in rebellion."

The sergeant was silent for a few minutes, staying quiet enough just long enough for your comrades to return. Kyouko hauling both her equipment and yours. In spite of this, Kyouko seemed to be taking it in her stride.

"So, what's are we gonna do boss? Are we going to leave the bodies here, are we going to question these guys, what's the plan?" Logan asked as Kyouko walked past you and deposited both yours and her equipment into the back of the truck.

>Leave the corpses here.

"Put in in a ditch in the forest and cover them with leaves, dirt, branches and other crap. A shallow grave is better than no grave after all. As for the prisoners, put them in the back of the truck. We can question them later, when all of them are awake." You ordered as you moved to clear a space at the back of the truck bed for the prisoners. With their backs against the wall of the cabin, they would have no way to escape.

"Should we look for clean uniforms? Or take the prisoner's clothes?" Logan suggested, gesturing to the two knocked out prisoners.

"There isn't any point. Neither of us look even vaguely Japanese, we don't know Japanese either. The only one of us who could succeed in that role would be Kyouko, and if Intel is right then the only Japanese women working in anything even vaguely military related are in factories, and there aren't many of them." You shot down his idea with a frown, though it wan't because you were dismayed at his suggestion. It was more because the realities of how you would have to stay hidden were becoming even more apparent. You would not be able to work with the same freedom as you would have in Europe.

"Yeah, I guess you're right... I should have thougt about that." Logan admitted as he walked over to the truck and took off his backpack, making to stash it away. You were about to answer him, when Kyouko waved at you from the cab of the truck.

"Logan, watch them." You ordered as you made your way over to your comrade, who was holding what looked like a large notepad.

"Look at what I found in the glove box. It's a map on assorted Japanese bases, roadblocks in the south of China." Kyouko stated happily as she shared the map with you. And sure enough, it showed a surprising amount of information, but it lacked a few key details.

"This is good, but it doesn't say how big each base it, or it's purpose." You pointed out as you looked over each dot and dash on the map. All of which looking like they had been added with a pencil.

"I know it isn't very good for large scale intelligence, but for navigation it's great! For instance, if we avoid the checkpoints on the road between Nayang and Hongyangzhen, we can avoid going near the base at Puing!" Kyouko declared happily, obviously rather happy at having found something valuable.

"That's great, go on and get the engine running. We'll be leaving soon and I want everything to be ready." You ordered as you took the map, memorising base locations as Kyouko climbed into the cab. There was a crack as she started to hot wire the engine. A few seconds later, a low rumbling sound met your ears.

"That was fast." You stated as you looked up to Kyouko, only to be met by the look of confusion from your squadmate.

"I didn't start the engine." Kyouko stated quietly as she held up a pair of jump leads that she had been splicing. The two of you spent a couple of seconds staring at each other as the rumbling continued, before you both looked in front of the truck.

And there, standing less than 10 meters away, was a South China Tiger. The large beast low and ready to pounce. Obviously having been attracted by the scent of blood and the sound of yelling.

"Well that's a big pussy..." You stated idly as you stared, un-amused, at the beast before you.

I'm gonna call the thread here guys. I was hoping to get more done today, but things were not in our favour today. Next week however, this mission will HOPEFULLY get to the point where we can do some fun stuff.

Anyways, if you have any questions then feel free to ask them and I will answer them as best I can.

>Is this an alternate universe in which battleships still rule the sea?
Not really, it's still following the WW2 trend of battleships starting off as the kings of the seas before being usurped by aircraft carriers. However because the war has been going on for a while, carriers are late to take their position as king of the seas. This is mostly because the numerous battles where-in aircraft carriers destroyed battleship forces or assisted heavily in their destruction either haven't happened or ended completely differently. For instance, the Bismark wasn't sunk following the battle of the Denmark strait as carrier aircraft from graf zeppelin stopped the British torpedo bombers before they could cripple the Bismarck.

Let's just say that Klara was "happy" to act as if she was Berkhard's wife. Take that as you will.

>what we know where Klara is despite not knowing last session? that a retcon or a event from the timeskip
Neither, Berkhard lied to his comrades while on base. He's under orders to keep the information about Klara under wraps.
