Finally.
>>
You are not brooding. Despite your steepled hands and lowered brow, despite your hunched posture, tensed for an action not soon coming, and despite the air of gravitas you’re projecting into the room, so heavily that even you can feel it, you are not brooding. You are panicking, in a manner befitting a leader.

“Do you think she was telling the truth?” you ask, clamping down hard on the tremor that threatened to work its way into your voice. Blake dashes your hopes when she shakes her head and answers, “Yang would only lie about something for a joke, and I can’t see how this would be funny, even if she doesn’t know what we do.” You sneer into your hands, only allowing it because Blake can’t see it.

This is bad. This is bad in a way that you can’t truly comprehend as of now. You know, for a fact, that Ms. Goodwitch knows how dangerous Neo is. Allowing “Ellie” free rein of the school implies that, somehow, Goodwitch doesn’t know her true identity. Meeting with her multiple times a day implies she does know something is off about the last member of RYAL’s quartet. A third possibility, that even the administration of Beacon has been compromised by Torchwick’s organization, doesn’t bear thinking about, even if it does neatly explain everything.

“Please tell me you know what to do…” Blake mutters. The pressure to come up with something doesn’t increase, but it does become much more noticeable. You’re not sure you know the right thing to do, but you can certainly come up with something...

>A) And you’ll need the rest of your team. Tell Penny and Weiss what’s happened, and work together to find out why Neo is meeting with Goodwitch on such friendly terms.
>B) You’re not going to wring your hands about this any further. You’ll confront Ms. Goodwitch yourself, and get the full story directly from her.
>C) You don’t want to risk tipping anyone off if Ms. Goodwitch is working with Neo. Make innocent inquiries of her, asking after Neo while disguising your questions as the concerns of a victim.

You refuse to believe Ms. Goodwitch, of all people, would have fallen to bribe money or blackmail. She’s been a shining example of a Huntress for years. If she was corrupt, then what were you and your team even here to learn? You’re going to talk with her, one on one, and Blake doesn’t respond as well as you’d hope.

“Are you insane? You handed her to Goodwitch on a silver platter, and she’s walking around practically the next day! What does that look like to you, Whitaker? Do you think she got a spanking and was sent home for the day?”

“I’m sure she got all that and more,” you reply, brushing off Blake’s sarcasm, “but Goodwitch is good at what she does. It’s practically in her name. She’d never have just let someone go after a murder attempt. Neo escaped, plain and simple.” Your teammate crosses her arms and raises an eyebrow at your explanation.

“And the secret meetings?” she asks with a leading tone. “We don’t know they’re meeting,” you point out with a shrug. “All we know is that Neo goes into her office. She might be looking for something while Goodwitch is teaching a class.” Blake’s expression collapses into a sour one. You can see the concession before she speaks it.

“I guess that does make more sense… Fine, you can go talk to her-” You hadn’t realized you were asking for permission, “-but I’m coming with you. Just in case you’re wrong.” There isn’t an argument against that (save for paranoia, and God knows you can’t throw stones in that direction), so you concede to her in turn with a small nod.

(CONTINUED)

>>2053441
Ms. Goodwitch’s office hours are eclectic and often vary from day to day. You’re lucky to catch her, though she seems startled when you knock on her door. She must not get many visitors. She invites you in with a silent nod before straightening out some papers on her desk. You push open the door and take a seat, Blake on your heels.

“Whitaker,” Goodwitch intones, still wrapping up whatever business she was working on before she can give you her undivided attention. In the interest of decorum, you wait for her to finish before you speak, “Ms. Goodwitch, I was hoping to follow up on the… Neo business.” Goodwitch flicks her eyes towards Blake and back to you, raising her brow so slightly that you aren’t sure if you’re imagining it.

“My team is fully aware of what happened that night, ma’am,” you explain before continuing, “I was hoping you could tell me what happened to her after I left her here.”

Goodwitch hums to herself before answering. She doesn’t break eye contact as she says, “The matter has been handled, and your assailant is in custody.” The tone of finality she uses isn’t encouraging, but you’re not going to let go easily.

“I assume I don’t need to know where she’s being held?” you ask, and Goodwitch nods again. “You assume correctly.” Your lips thin as you suppress a grimace at how immature it sounds, but you have to ask… “Can you check with whoever is watching her? Make sure she’s still there?” You haven’t entirely discounted the possibility that Ellie and Neo are two different people, so it’s best to check now.

Goodwitch makes no effort to pick up her scroll or shuffle through reports, which causes an icy stab of fear in your chest when she replies, in a voice only semitones lower than her normal one, “She is in custody, Mr. Schnee.”

>A) Accept and leave. You feel as though you’ve stepped on something, and you’re only chance of making it out safely is to back away carefully.
>B) Tell her about Ellie. Surely with two eyewitnesses, Goodwitch will have to check and see she’s wrong?
>C) Accuse her of working with Neo. This blatant collusion will not go unchallenged!

Alright, that's the diplomatic but firm approach! Writing!
>>
>>2053444
Maybe she just doesn’t know? Is the thread of hope you’re clinging to now. “Ms. Goodwitch,” you begin, your tone deathly serious, “I have reason to believe Neo has escaped. She can create copies of herself, and if she was telling the truth about how she got into the school in the first place, I suspect she can do much more than that. Enough to escape from wherever she’s being held!” You can’t help the rise in your voice as you continue.

Blake takes over before you can embarrass yourself any further by losing your cool. “Based on everything I know about her, Ms. Goodwitch, that seems like a distinct possibility. Neo is mute, playful, and short for her apparent age. Another first-year student fits that description perfectly, and while short playful girls aren’t exactly uncommon, how many of them are mute?”

There’s a glint in Goodwitch’s eye. It isn’t comforting. “Are you accusing Ms. Palmprate of being this ‘Neo,’ Ms. Belladonna?” Blake shrinks a bit at the gentle rebuking tone, but she doesn’t back down. “I think it’s enough to warrant looking into, ma’am.”

“Well, I disagree,” Goodwitch states, slamming the door on the conversation closed with an audible clunk. “Living with her disability is difficult enough without comparisons to hardened criminals with very good reasons not to speak to their captors,” she continues, her voice hardening around the word “captors” as she shoots you a glance, only mild enough to avoid becoming a glare. “Now, if that’s all, I would like to return to my paperwork so that I can go home sometime tonight.”

Both you and Blake are far too dignified, even at your worst, to sputter indignantly and spout nonsense to waste time while you come up with a real reason to keep the conversation going. You stand as one and walk out into the hall. Blake waits until you’re well away from the office before asking in a low tone, “Now what?”

>A) Goodwitch wants proof, and you’re nothing if not a people pleaser. Find some hard evidence linking Ellie to Neo.
>B) Goodwitch is stonewalling you for a reason. Your best bet to learn what, exactly, that reason is will be during one of Neo’s meetings with her. Wait for the next one and eavesdrop.
>C) She can’t stonewall you if you simply walk around the wall. Go above her head and present your concerns directly to Ozpin.

You’re pressed into an alcove that exists only to provide an aesthetically pleasing garden-like frame to a water fountain. It’s the only cover you can find that gives you a good view of Goodwitch’s office and keeps anyone from sneaking up on you. It would be perfect, if Blake hadn’t insisted on coming and, thus, had to share your hiding spot. With all the… Tension between the two of you, you shared a mutually unspoken agreement that you would not be the one pressing Blake into the wall to hide. Instinctive fear and learned - if shaky - trust were difficult emotions to juggle without compromising situations as well.

Instead, Blake stood behind you, using your shoulders to push herself just high enough to see over your peeking head. Nearly all her weight was on your neck, and you were sure, if you strained to listen, you could hear the fracturing bones that precluded a neck snap. You were about to shove her off, damn getting caught, when you hear the soft tapping of boots along the hallway floor. You both go still, not daring to move lest you give yourselves away.

The twin tailed form of Ellie bounced towards Goodwitch’s office so forcefully she was practically skipping. The self-satisfied smirk on her face tweaks at something inside you. Annoying, but not rage-inducing. Then Blake leans too far forward. Suddenly your face is pressed into the brickwork, the pain in your neck exploding to the point that you can’t suppress a pained hiss. Blake shifts again, an apology already registering somewhere the back of your mind, but your own attempts to push yourself back end up overcompensating.

You trip over Blake’s foot and fall backwards, and while Blake is by no means weak, you’ve got nearly seventy pounds of weight over her. At such an awkward angle, and with all the dead weight the human body can produce, Blake can stop the pair of you from landing on your respective backsides, in plain view of Neo and the unimpressed form of Ms. Goodwitch.

Neo doesn’t break her stride, strolling past the scene, and her meeting, with only a joyful smile in your direction. Goodwitch locks the door to her office with an audible thunk. As you and Blake stand up and brush yourselves off, Goodwitch spares you a small shake of the head before leaving as well, in the opposite direction of Neo.

Blake follows her exit for a moment before asking in a low voice, “Well… What do you want to try next?”

>A) Next?! THIS plan would have worked if Blake hadn’t tripped you! “I think I’ll try something on my own.”
>B) Nothing for it but to try and catch them again some other time. “I think I’d like to try out this thing called a ‘nap.’ Jaune won’t shut up about it.”

It felt amazing to lay against the unrelenting form of your mattress. The springs had no give to offer, having already suffered years of compression under the weight of variably fat Huntsmen to be. It was entirely unfit for the heir to a multi-million dollar company, and that fact made you love it. It felt real, bracing, like a cool morning breeze.

It was one of the few places you felt totally secure, despite the fiasco that had begun with your abduction from this bed. Perhaps it was nonsensical, but trauma rarely left understandable marks, so you’ve been told. It may have been a delusion of safety, but it was comforting, so you indulged it, and allowed your harmless madness to lure you into a soft, restful sleep.

Until the screaming began.

It was a distant thing, at first. A few harsh tones, girls if you were to guess, but words were indistinct. Not your problem. Back to sleep.

You lay there, steadily making out more and more of the shouting match as it drilled its way into your mind. The irritation was constant, and constant mental pain swiftly lead to constant physical pain in the form of a splitting headache. It must have been an hour. Maybe two, now. You paw at your scroll and flip the screen towards you.

It has been ten minutes since you got back from your failed stakeout. You stare at the steadily ticking number for twelve minutes as the fight reaches a crescendo, climaxing in a shrill voice exclaiming “You SUCK!” before being punctuated by a slamming door. A small part of you is relieved by the return of silence, but the rest of you is waking up completely. There’s only two girls you know who could get that mad and keep their language that clean, and one of them was at her desk reading.

You stumble out of bed and pull your pants around your waist, a half-baked plan to fix a problem you haven’t understood yet already forming. You really shouldn’t try to help straight out of bed. Before you can find your shirt, there’s a timid knock on your door. Without even thinking of asking Penny to get it, you trip your way towards your door and open to, to reveal a shivering red mass which occasionally emits quiet sobs.

“Ruby…?” you check, still not awake enough to trust yourself.

“Whitaker…” she replies, the choke in her throat audible around the harsher syllables of your name, “Can you…” she interrupts herself with a sniff, “Can you help me?”

So. I got to thinking about when Cinder's gang framed Yang for breaking Mercury's legs...
You know who would be a REALLY juicy target for that sort of scenario, and who would be REALLY easy to frame for an aggressive mental break?

I mean... if we took their place... he won't be pretending to have broken legs. They would be actual broken legs. Or so I tell myself.

Honestly I see this, he'd feel bad but whit honestly kind of comes of as cold when he fights
>>

Fair assessment. He DID (implicitly) try to break Yang's nose as his first move in his first fight against her. The boy aims for the jugular.

Wouldn't surprise me.

How many people have been witness to Whit's manic episodes?

>Whit hacks off Mercury's robot legs for real.
>Emerald tries to follow up with an illusion
>Cameras and Mics focused on stage
>Mercury is pretending to be in pain. When Whit suddenly lifts him up and asks him how the fuck is he feeling pain if he has robot legs.
>RUH - OH
>>
>>2057358
The problem is that Whit is a very different fighter from Yang so if he sees Mercury charging him after the match is over he would most likely dodge or make a wall of ice making it nearly impossible for them to get the same scenario to play out. Hell it was a miracle it played out correctly in the show.

It was late when Ruby showed up at your door. Not so late that you were concerned for Weiss and Blake still being out, you weren’t their father, but late enough for everyone to for everyone to get ready for bed. That’s why you gently lead Ruby to the communal kitchen you and the rest of the first years shared, for non-Faculty provided meals. You didn’t want her to see Penny not attempting to look tired. It could blow her cover.

The kitchen was a much more likely place to have comfort food than your dorm, and while Weiss doesn’t take to the idea as well as she once did, Ruby isn’t Weiss. It’s worth a shot. The trip is silent, only occasionally “livened up” by a watery noise from your charge.

You wordlessly lead the sniffling bundle to the only decent chair in the room and let her collapse into it. You’re about to make for the pantry or fridge when she finally speaks again.

“How do you do it?” she questions. You would swear she’s talking to the air before she turns to look at you. You can feel the length of this impending conversation already, so you take a seat on the less than impressive couch. “How do I do what?”

“You’re on a team with your sister, but she listens to you. Yang doesn’t listen to me, she just does stuff…” That clarifies who, exactly, Ruby was yelling at. Unfortunately, the question isn’t one you can answer in a hurry, even if the seconds that tick by as you think take a visible toll on your fellow leader. Why did Weiss follow, but Yang didn’t?

>A) The obvious answer is probably the right one. “Weiss and I are twins. We’re used to trading the 'big sibling' role. Yang, on the other hand, is used to being the one in charge. She's probably having trouble adjusting.”
>B) It may have less to do with the sisters and more to do with the leaders. Maturity, after all, rarely has anything to do with age. “Well, to be honest with you, you’re… Young. Not your age, but you.... Act. Younger, I mean.”
>C) Yang’s a forceful personality, in an entirely different way to Weiss. “Ruby, your sister ambushed me in the shower because she was mad at me. I can’t imagine Weiss doing something like that. Well, not to someone she’s only friends with. They’re just different people you’ve got to handle in different ways.”

“Ruby, your sister ambushed me in the shower because she was mad at me.” That manages to tease out another noise, but you can’t place it. It could be anything from a surprised gasp to a laugh. At least it doesn’t sound sad. “I can’t imagine Weiss doing something like that. Well, not to someone she’s only friends with. They’re just different people you’ve got to handle in different ways.”

“I guess,” Ruby pouts, settling back into her melancholy, “but how am I supposed to ‘handle’ Yang?” You answer with a shrug. You’re not the one who’s spent your whole life with her, and no one on your team is as rowdy as Yang. Penny may match her for energy, but Penny could also be pulled back when she needed to be. Yang doesn’t seem capable of restraint, so she’s outside your wheelhouse.

The wordless admission sees Ruby settling deeper into the cushions of her chair. She’s certainly not happy, but at least she isn’t crying anymore. That doesn’t mean you can’t still help. After all, you came here for comfort food, and your peckish enough to take part.

“I’m gonna make a snack,” you declare to the room, informing Ruby more by consequence than intention. “Want anything?” you ask, directly to her this time. She nods, looking at nothing that you can see.

You push yourself up and move to check what foods have been added to the collective pantry over the months. What would you and Ruby like?

>A) There’s a couple of soup cans with Yang’s name on them in the pantry. She can consider it the first step in apologizing for winding her sister up.
>B) There’s cookie dough in the freezer without a name, but there is a pink sticky note with no writing and a little drawing of a heart on it.
>C) Weiss has set aside a collection of fruit in the fridge. She hadn’t said you could dip into her store, but she also hadn’t forbidden it, and you are twins. She’ll understand.
>D) You don’t feel like making anything and aren’t a fan of taking from your sister. All that leaves are a big bag of animal crackers that you can pass between the two of you. There’s no name on it. Fair game, by any standards.

You both enjoy a comfortable silence, listening to the ambient noise of the bag being passed back and forth and, in your case, at least, trying to ignore the sound of Ruby crunching into the crackers. You spent the time wondering what, exactly, you could do. It feels as though situations keep piling further and further, and you began to feel overwhelmed months ago. Now, you had somewhat acclimated to the constant sense of panic on the fringe of your emotional spectrum.

“Does it ever get to you?” Ruby asks around a small morsel of compacted former camel crackers. You wait for her to swallow before answering with a question, “Anything in particular, or does ‘it’ just mean ‘life’?”

“I meant being the leader…” she says, without a hint of a whine, no matter what you might have thought you heard.

“Sometimes? My team isn’t as… Wild as yours, but there are still some issues to iron out every now and then.”

There isn’t a follow-up question. With the conversation dying, and Ruby comfortable, bundled up with her snacks, it seems like a good time to slip away, if you have a mind to.

>A) You’re starting to cut into your sleep schedule at this point. You need to get back to bed.
>B) You’re going to slip away alright. You’ve only heard Ruby’s side of the story, and you’d be doing a bad job as a friend if you didn’t get Yang’s account, too.
>C) What type of friend would you be if you took the first opportunity to leave with a guilt-free conscious? She’s alright now, but she was bawling less than an hour ago. You should stick around and try to talk about something else.

Time to drill straight into the heart of Ruby's problems! Writing!
>>
>>2063234
What's this about drilling Ruby?
>>
>>2063044
“We’ve been talking in circles around it for a while, now, Ruby.” Near instantaneously, the calm air Ruby has been carefully cultivating since she sat down shatters. She’s knows what’s coming and doesn’t want to talk about it, but you’ve already broached the topic. You can’t back out now without making things even more uncomfortable.

“What did Yang actually do?” Ruby makes a show of not looking at you as she offers an answer that’s delivered in a tone as weak as the excuse. “It’s nothing to worry about…” she drones, only flicking her eyes at you to see if you’re going to let it go. You are not. She looks away again.

“You woke me up at near enough to midnight, nearly choking to death crying, then latched onto me and soaked my shirt through because of ‘nothing to worry about’?” The sarcasm in your voice is heavy enough to beat Beowolves to death with. “You aren’t wearing a shirt…” Ruby points out with a pout and a slightly heated pair of cheeks. You take note of how cold the kitchen is and, stupidly, actually look down to check. That’s right, you were trying to find it before answering the door, but simply gave up for… Some reason that made massive amounts of sense at the time, you’re sure.

“Well, I’m sure you weren’t crying about Yang stealing my shirt,” you say, plowing through the attempt at distraction. You’re committed to this now, whether she likes it or not. Ruby draws her knees up to her chest and hugs her legs, before mumbling something into them.

(CONTINUED)
>>
>>2063382
“I’m sorry?” You can’t help her if you can’t hear her.

“She was talking about the Vytal Festival…” The tone is so dire, so morbid, that you waste a moment wondering if someone close to them had died at the last Vytal Festival. You can’t think of another reason to be upset about it. You yourself had heard Yang and Nora gushing about how awesome it’d be to finally fight in the tournament, rather than watch it. You can’t remember anything particularly offensive about those exchanges.

“And that’s… Bad?” you ask.

“It is when she’s telling Jaune and Ellie about everyone else who’s gonna fight this year!” Ruby snaps at you. The flash of anger is so foreign in her voice that you can’t help but flinch away from her. She winces at your reaction and mutters an apology.

“She’s just been doing things like this all year… She calls out things when we’re fighting, and Ellie and Jaune actually listen to her… They listen to me, too, but I can’t just shout over Yang or they’d get confused, so I just have to let it go, and then they get comfortable doing what we both say to do, and they listen to her talking about how to beat the teams from Mistral, and I don’t know who’d they pick if we told them to do different things…”

It’s a torrent of words, but you’ve picked through worse. At least the issue’s clear. Now, what are you going to do about it?

>A) Yang’s overstepping her bounds, and Ruby doesn’t want to shout down her older sister. You’d have trouble, too, if it were you and Winter, but it isn’t. Find Yang and talk to her about this.
>B) Ruby came to you for help, not for you to do everything for her. Offer advice, like you have been, but make it tailored for the situation now that you’re aware of it.
>C) Keep your advice and your opinions to yourself. You wouldn’t be much better than Yang is being if you start trying to dictate how RYAL should handle their disputes. All that’s appropriate to offer is a sympathetic ear.

I wanna say lets go with her to help support/ back her up. But I feel like this is something that Ruby needs to work through with her sister. If Yang cant see that she's upsetting her sister or overstepping her sister who is also the team leader. Then there is possibly more going on there.

Man, I dunno what it is, by my brain is just ding as I write this next post. I think I'm gonna wrap up the session after this, I'd hate to have you guys waiting for me to get through my mental slog anymore tonight.

It isn’t a complicated situation. Ruby simply needs to set boundaries. Simplicity doesn’t mean it won’t be painful, unfortunately, so you decide to take a cautious, gentle tone when you tell her, “Ruby, she already knows you’re upset about it. I think the whole school knows you’re upset about it.”

Ruby shrinks further into her cloak, hiding beneath the hood that she pulled up at a point you must not have been paying attention. Funny, kind of, but not productive. “There’s no avoiding the topic anymore. If you go back to your room and pretend nothing happened, she’ll bring it up for you.”

“But what do I say?” she whines, “I can’t just tell her to shut up and stop doing my job…”

“Why not?” you shrug. Before she can answer, you cut her off. “Rhetorical question. I don’t know her as well as you do, so there’s probably a lot of reasons why you can’t, but you’ll come up with something. She’s your sister.”

Ruby chews on her lip, the only part of her face you can see anymore. It’s a pensive, nervous gesture that could mean hundreds of different things, but some type of intuition tells you exactly what it means now.

“You’ve already got an idea, don’t you?” She nods with a grimace.

“You don’t like it?” She shakes her head, lips puckered in distaste.

“Can’t think of anything else?” Another shake, this time with a forceful pout.

“If it’s the best you can do, then it’ll work,” you tell her. You’re surprised at how confident you sound, then surprised again at how confident you actually are. Ruby will fix this. You’re sure of it.

You stretch out the tension that had begun to settle in your shoulders and push yourself off of the couch. “You’ll be fine,” you say with a yawn, “but I won’t be if I keep cutting my bedtime.” Once again, there’s a small smile. It reminds you so much of Weiss or Whitley that you can’t help but ruin it by ruffling the top of Ruby’s hood, making her squawk in protest.

“If you need to talk to me again, my door’s open,” you offer. She replies in the strongest, most normal voice you’ve heard from her tonight.

“Thanks, Whitaker.”

Not exactly my best, but if I agonized over the exact phrasing any longer I was gonna be here all night. That's Gemini done for the week, tune in this upcoming Wednesday for more shit happening!

You did good.

Also the last bit of 'phrasing' there at the end. Of course his door is open if she wants to "talk".

So, it's very unfortunate, and isn't really my call, but thanks to the amount of work I'm putting in lately, I nearly broke my neck after fainting on a staircase earlier today. Talked to health services, listed out my symptoms and complaints, and they told me this:

I'm overworked. Taking on way too much at one time, and I need to cut down to a manageable, healthy level. Considering I can't, responsibly, drop out of school to keep running, I've gotta let Gemini go on another hiatus, after only a week of running.

It really sucks, and I mean really, really fucking sucks, but that's all I can do. No idea when I'll be up to run again, but I can promise this: I am not stopping. I am going to carry this story to its conclusion, you guys just need to be patient with me.
