The Glorious Empire, once proud and mighty, has fallen on hard times as of late. With much infighting at home and disillusion with Imperial rule in the frontier colonies, there is no strong sense of pride, and the people turn to their regional cultures more than the overarching sense of loyalty to the Emperor and the Capital of Eurdan that once existed, but is now long gone. Word grows in the East, of a powerful warlord rallying the once divided tribes of barbarians and beasts to his banner, smelling blood in the water and the decaying corpse of the empire flounders. All that stands between the Lands of the Empire and the wilds and their hordes of people (and otherwise) who see this bloated corpse as no more than a sack of loot needing a little convincing to spill its treasures, is the Fortress of Lavius’s Spite, built at the spot where the legendary 5th Emperor Lavius ąl Adûnius fought a battle with a mighty dragon for 12 days, and on the final day cast his opponent down from the mountaintop and smote him upon the mountainside, his fall creating the valley where the fortress now lie. Farad himself was not seen since that day, and the resulting succession crisis between his twenty sons is partly to blame for the state of the empire today. Regardless, the Garrison at the Spite, as it is commonly called, has been vastly reduced as generals eager to carve up their own sections of the empire have recalled men more loyal to their leader then the crown, with only a single legion of the original 6 that manned the fort remaining.
The Fortress itself is a massive stonework marvel of engineering, composed of a giant wall/gatehouse as the front of the valley with an additional fortress about half a league further behind at the other end of the valley. The Wall, cut from the stone of the mountain with foundations of dragon-bone deep beneath the earth, is 50 ft tall and deep enough that 10 men can walk abreast its length. Towers dot the fortifications at equal intervals and atop these towers stand mighty onagers, with ballista also dotting the walls in several places. Small barracks also exist in the wall itself, so that the men stationed there will not have to return to the rear fort every night. The Rear fortress itself is intimidating as well, a citadel with room for 20,000 men, walls thicker than some of the nearby hills, and several barracks for the Griffin Calvary famous in the empire, but only a paltry 15 of the beast remain. A nearby well in the mountains carries fresh water to the fort, and the valley behind has several small farms and a small village to keep the fort supplied with food during times when the ways from the empire are blocked, or when the fighting grows so fierce that supplies cannot be spared for a border fort.

You are a member of this legion, Braxios’s Fighting 15th, who’s general is infamous for his irrelevancy at home, having been disgraced in losing his previous commands in an ambush from one of his own subordinates when trying to subdue a rebellion in a frontier province. His disgrace was being stripped of 3 of his four legions and being sent to the farthest reaches of the empire with an entirely new batch of recruits, you, to await the rest of his days. But now, things have changed, though the fortress stands mostly empty it will not go unused, as exotic traders from the east and even men of the empire going east to find fortune in the wilds are returning shaken by… something, or seldom not returning at all. Fires burn on the distant horizons, and on particularly quiet nights you can hear it, quiet but droning on and on and on; Drums, drums in the East, and the sounds of a million marching feet. Your commander has decided to stand his ground, perhaps compelled by his past disgrace or some sense of duty that still exist even though the man himself is lost in the bottom of the bottle. Either way you’re stuck here for the duration of the siege, as the last men who tried to leave were drawn and quartered for desertion, and their bodies fed to the crows. Not wishing to end up in the same hell those men are destined for, you check over your gear before leaving your room.
Except, what is your assignment?

1/2. Boar scales the highest tower, almost slipping on some bits of Goblin guts on the stairwell. He pulls out his spyglass at the highest point, directing his view at the burnt out husk of the outer woods, looking for signs of the goblin menace. He saw them alright, the shriveled husks of a thousand thousand goblins, burnt while they marched, while they ran, while some huddled together surrounded by the flames. They were in the woods alright, but it was blackened skin and burnt bone that greeted his eyes, not a pack of ravenous monsters.

3. Descending from the tower boar began the long walk to the Wall's infimary. Apparently a pack of goblins made it here as well, as things were strewn about and even now camp followers were still cleaning the place. What seemed odd to Boar however was a single long brown piece of feces sitting in the corner. He saw it in the log, the foot of a chicken. He pondered the meaning of this as a doctor saw to his wounds, applying the poultice nessecary to keep his wounds from getting any worse.

"These will take a few days to heal properly, until then take it easy or you may risk reopening the wounds."

>Health: 7/10, + 1 every turn until fully healed (unless injured further )

>>2118341

1/2. The smith ends his first week at the fort be refining his enchantments. He had plans, but not the means to execute them. This would require practice, and lots of it.

>Controlled Minor Destruction 4/5

3. When you said pig iron you spoke to highly of this metal, it might as well be glass for as well as it handles under your hammer blows. You trepidatiously quench the lumpen mess, only for it to shatter the moment it hits the water. Your thick leather apron catches all of the fragments, but it almost seems like the weapons of the enemy have a will of their own, that will being to try to kill you even with a screaming goblin holding the blade.

>>2118350
1. You pray to the craft god for favor, for wisdom, and for good luck in finding metal. You then proceed to step outside of your room and onto a nail. Your prayers have been answered!

2. You spend a few hours meditating in your room, contemplating the nature of the world and your role in it, how you are no different then a cog in a machine. This spurs on deeper insight, and you feel as though your next work will have a touch of wisdom in it.

>Inspired: + 10 to next design roll

3. You gather provisions necessary for the trip ahead, it would seem that some have volunteered to come with you as well, though you also can feel free to ask others to join you on this trip. (As an aside I would recommend it).
>>
>>2118352
1. You rush over to the man, your brothers already tending to him. You take the supplies nearby and use them as best you can to bind his wounds, though it would seem the knife cut deeper then what these medicines can treat, or any doctor could either. Your brother shall live, but he shall never walk, never raise his shield, and never fight again. He can speak, but just barely.

"b-bbruddda..." He stutters "ceeeeek ch-chi-chikins"

2. You aid in transporting the wounded, the time for those who were the most gravely wounded to be treated having past, but still, all around appreciate your help in taking those that cannot take themselves to a place to heal.

3. You bring to the attention of the commanders of the fort the misplaced medical supplies, awaiting their reaction

1/2. You retire to the infirmary, barely able to walk by the time you lay down in one of the few unclaimed bunks. Your poor shape ensures that you are seen to relatively however, and receive ample care from a female physician that happened to see your bolt of lighting from her perch on the wall.

>Health: 6/10, + 1 every turn until healed (unless injured further)

3. You are barely awake by the time you realize that you've scaled a nearby peak, the storm raging around you as a thick bank of black clouds stand overhead. Without warning, a bolt of lighting shoots straight down from on high, striking your sword and filling it with arcane energy. There's no telling how long this will last, but you feel as if you begin to understand how to do this yourself, it is almost as if this was a lesson.

>Gladius Enchantment: Lighting - + 10 to large enemies. Last for one combat encounter

>Spells: Minor Lighting Enchantment: 4/5

>>2118383
1/2/3. You and Zhayed fly the worst of the wounded to the rear lines, where better facilities and the most senior doctors of the legion await the wounded. You personally save no less then 50 men, who all swear a oath that should you need them, they will answer your call for anything. Furthermore, for your actions in the battle and after it, the general has seen fit to grant you an honor, the crown of the preserver. You may wear this honor as you see fit, and the men of the legion who notice it will respect you for it.

>Inventory:
+ [Crown of the Preserver] - Awarded to those who have shielded and saved any of the citizens or allies. + 5 To NPC conversation and interaction rolls.

>>2118431
1/2/3. You join the procession to the infirmary, your rank giving you choice treatment. As it is only one hole it is a relatively simple application of poultice and bandage, the doctor telling you to take it easy for a day or so and you'll be fine.

>Health: 7/10, + 1 per turn until healed (unless otherwise injured again)

>>2118449
1/2/3. A storm rages in the dead of night as the acolyte chants words unknown to most mortal men in the depths of the wall, in his own chamber, his dead master standing by, the blue flames that are now his eyes the only source of light in the room. The tome instructs you to build a circle of blood, which with a quick slice of your knife you are more then happy to supply. A quick incantation and suddenly everything goes black. You are surrounded by total darkness, the sound of crashing waves resounding all around you. A quick exhale and you suddenly feel the air bubbles rush past your face, then the water on your skin. You open your mouth to scream but it is soon filled with rushing water, but still the absolute darkness remains. A figure moves in the darkness, you realize it is a massive scaly hand, with claws tipped with obsidian shards the size of houses. You only see this because of the sickly red glow, the glow coming from the eyes, countless eyes. Then everything fades to black. Now you stand before a giant tower on indescribable shape, a being in the distance, a swirling mass of inscrutable malice, gazes in your direction. You feel your eyes dry, then boil out of your head, flames pouring out of you eye sockets as they try to process what you are seeing. You fade to blackness once again. You awake in your room, which is now covered in brine and seaweed, along with some black substance that you can't seem to touch, but also isn't fading away. Furthermore your master has disappeared, along with the stone his soul was bonded too.

- Master, [Bloodstained Rock]

1/2. Along with may others you stop at the infirmary, though you appear to arrive on the tale end of the day when most of the non-essential personnel are out gathering more herbs for the medicine. As such your only receive the most basic treatment, but start to feel better already.

> Health: 6/10, +1 per turn until healed unless otherwise injured in that time period.

3. Your mother was famous in your clan for her cock-meat sandwiches, and you figure that some of the cooking blood must run in your veins as well. With that you help yourself to the ktichen, telling the cooks of your plans; Said cooks offer you some of their herbs if you promise to let them have a taste of this "Trul Crock Stew". A short while later after hauling the sizable hunk of meat down to the kitchen and tossing the shaft in a pot with some lentils and cabbage. The testicles you had a special plan for. Taking some oil in a pan and with some flour you make a light breading and flambe the testicle strips, and after several minutes of cooking the "tendies" as you call them, for they really are quite tender, are finished. Following this a short while later the stew is complete as well, and you and the cooking staff have a wonderful meal. Some of the men ask you for the recipe, and from what type of cattle you obtained this most succ-ulent of meat, but you assure them that you keep such secrets close to heart.

> Health: 8/10
>Inventory:
+ [Troll Cock Stew and Tendies Recipe] - After a bit of cooking and style, one can hardly tell its a giant dick with ball slices. Requires 1 troll cock, restores 2 health per serving.

>>2118801
1/2. Running all the way to the rear fort some medical aides rush to help you, asking how you managed to run all this way if your wounds were so "grievous". You assure them that heroics propelled you onward, saying that you must be treated as soon as possible to return to the fight. When they then tell you that the first wave was over you loudly lament the your wounds were so severe as to prevent you from staying and "Thrashing those monsters for Rome and Empire!" All in all it is a convincing act, and you leg is binded up as well.

> Health: 7/10 + 1 per turn until fully healed unless damaged in that time.

2/3. One could not preform true heroics in rags such as these! It was therefore obvious and morally justifiable to Vaughan that he take some new clothes from the quartermaster, the man didn't even need to know he borrowed them either. Furthermore, he figured that it was time for a change of appearance as well. Using some pig's fat and and horse semen he concocted a gel that would hold his once long air straight up in the air after it dried, and that he might was well get an eyepatch as well, to truly be as intimidating to the enemy as he could be.

>Inventory:
+ [Hair Gel recipe] - 1 part water, 2 parts pigs fat, and 3 parts horse semen. Last 5 turns and gives a - 15 to perception checks against you .
+ [Eyepatch] - Taken from a sleeping bum, - 5 to perception checks against you, - 5 to combat rolls on account of the fact that you can't see out of it.

1. Most of what the attackers brought was burned with them, and the tools they used are of too crude of make and poor of metal quality to anything other then scrap. Gaius finds nothing useful on this day, but in dumping said scrap metal into the pit traps he has made them twice as deadly. They still needed to be cleaned however.

2/3. In the dead of night, as the storm raged in the sky above, Gaius set out from the wall and into the woods, his cloak wrapped tightly around him to prevent the rain from soaking too much into his tunic underneath. As he reached the treeline, or rather what was left of it after the fire, he did notice something most peculiar. The trees where already regrowing, infact it was as if half of the burnt trunks had already sprouted new branches with tiny leaves on them, and the ash underfoot was pocketed with blades of grass and small shrubs shooting out of the remains of gods know how many goblins. He continues on his way, travelling now into the woods not touched by the flames, with trunks as wide as the troll is tall, and leaves large enough to make a cloak out of. It is quiet here, the only sound that of the beating drums in the distance, slower now, softer... As if they were resting...

>You are now a turn's travel away from the wall, you can keep going or return, your choice.

>>2119497
1. You manage to find a small sack in the hands of a dead goblin. Inside of it are several small gemstones, radiant and beautiful.

>Inventory:
+ [Small Sack of Gemstones]

2. Along with many others you as well seek aid for your wounds. The doctor assures you that they are superficial at worst, with a few bruises that should heal in a few days at worst.

>Health 10/10

3. It would seem unfortunately though that most of your men did not survive the fight, as a mere 15 showed up for your scheduled drill today. Unable to look at the men and speak to them of the fact that over half the century is dead or wounded, you dismiss the men for the day and retire to your quarters.

>>2121219
1. You pray to the Western Goddess of Horses, who had in the past century been accepted into the Roman pantheon. Unfortunately she must be casting her gaze elsewhere as you feel nor see nothing from your prayers. There is the faint stench of saltwater on the wind however.

2. You then tend to Apollo, giving him an apple while mumruing sweet nothings into his ear, stroking his mane as you slip bits of goblin flesh into his mouth as well, He appears to like these morsels more then the apple however.

3. Another day another drill. When the most senior Equites left with the rest of the legions for the empire, there was not one Principe left among the horsemen to command them. It would seem now that Batiatus had taken up that mantle, as the men now looked to him when they drilled, called him "sir" even. Training went well as well, which is always nice.

>Advanced Training: 4/10

>>2121377
1/2. Combing among the enemy dead as you and your men throw them into the chasm on the far side of the wall you make sure to pocket any valuables you can find, and by midday you have a sizable collections of gold and small gemstones.

>Inventory:
+ [Sack of Gold and Gemstones]

3. As you call your men forward to get an accurate headcount as to be certain of the amount of men you need to requisition from the rear fort, you notice something both horrifying and enraging. Your standard bearer is missing! YOUR STANDARD IS MISSING! The men assure you that he was not among the dead, and no scraps of the standard were found. If you dared reveal this to the General, he'd have you strung up and whipped infront of the entire legion. You must resolve this before getting new men, this must not leave the century. Aside from this your losses are light, a few men laid up with broken arms or legs, a few in comas from blood loss, but no deaths. In fact it would seem that only the standard bearer is missing.

2121655
1/2/3. You spend the day helping the men of the frontal fort with all that they need. The men appreciate the help and your assistance shows off, as the men work harder and faster knowing a griffin knight is willing to help them with even the most mundane of things.

>[Family Man] - + 10 --> +15 and + 5 to all rolls that involve you working with legionaries

>Name: Antorius Damocles
>Fluff: The son of a Legion Smith and a Seamstress, his talent at magic was discovered early on in his apprenticeship under his father. Between his experience as a smith and his magical skill, he was more or less fast tracked into the crafting of magical items. This turned out to be...a bad idea. He has an almost savant-like talent at making things explode. Very, very well. The Artificer's Hall of his Academy was rebuilt more than once during his tenure there. Name: Vincentus Lucius Dedicatus
Fluff: A veteran of numerous campaigns, Vincentus has been hailed as both a stalwart servant of the Empire and a greedy gorehound. Notorious for prying gold and riches from the corpses of men he slays, Vincentus leads his men with an iron fist and an unshakable zeal, thirsty for greater glory and gold. He yet remains unmarried, and it's an open secret that he's quite fond of slave men, for if he got himself a wife he'd have to share his riches. By ANY means! If he isn't dead, then he's hiding! Somewhere, in this FORT! And he has the gods-damned standard with him!"

Vincentus threw the messenger to the ground and crossed his command tent to fetch his vitis from his equipment stand. "We will not rest until we FIND the cocksucker and get our standard BACK!"

[Under the pretenses of "maintaining vigor and alertness," Vincentus commands his men to scour the fort and find the standard. If they find the standard bearer, too, then they're to haul him off for a flogging. Name: Caelum Alerius Airya

Fluff: Born a second son, Caelum was groomed for war while his older brother was raised to inherit his father's estate. To ensure his son's status and glory he had acquired a griffon's egg and had it bond with Caelum when hatched. Living near Lavius’ Spite, it was a natural starting point to which Caelum could begin his career, while also being near his family. Originally assigned to one of the generals that left, Caelum assigned himself to Braxios' legion as he refused to abandon his family while the fort grew increasingly undefended. While his father was unappreciative of this sacrifice as he felt it was a waste of his investment, Caelum knew that it was only a matter of time before the barbarian came crashing at the gates.

2. Next I want every able-bodied legionary in my century that's not confined to a bed on the training grounds. Just because we won doesn't mean we should just sit around and leech off the good grace of the gods forever. 3. Finally I'll venture out onto the battlefield to look for any remaining items of interest strewn throughout the battlefield, or at the very least find that goblin chief's head and pike it on the front wall so all his buddies can get a nice, good look at what happened to their leader when they try to foolishly throw themselves at us again.

1/2. You leave the standard at the rear fort, and feel the eyes of the snakes on you as you walk away, judging you. Returning to the frontal fort you see many a man pass you on the way back. Some wounded soldiers, some soldiers covered in welts from a centurion's whip, and a group of very angry looking barbarians. Finding the mage-smith you join him in the journey to the mountains surrounding the fortress. The chilling winds freeze your eyepatch to your face.

3. Vaughan finds it difficult to find arrows that aren't already embedded in the ground, or in corpses, so that the poison shall be fresh enough to use. He is in luck however, and finds a small quiver of them on the corpse of a goblin that had frozen to death in the mountain passes.

+ 8 Goblin poison arrows

1/2. Batiatus pours some of his drinking water onto the stable floor below, directly onto a pile of horse dung. Suddenly the piece of dung flies into his face, into his mouth, and down his throat. He chokes on the patty for several minutes, before Apollo, concerned for his health, breaks out of his pin and kicks him in the chest. dislodging the turd and sending him reeling into the side of the stable wall, and then through it. Perhaps a proper sacrifice would be in order to appease Neptune.

>Health: 8/10

+ [Neptune's Anger] - - 10 to all rolls involving horses until you make a proper sacrifice to the god of the Sea and horses.

3. Your chest hurts throughout the training session, and Apollo almost bucks your off as you try to dismount him after a day drilling. Still, despite your delays and mishaps some progress is made.

>Advanced Training 7/10

>>2128186
1. You try to bond with your bird, but it is aloof as ever and spurns most of your advances. It is only a piece of meat offered to the bird, your daily ration of it to be exact, that the creature begrudgingly accepts, before turning again and going to sleep.

>Bonded Griffin 1/10

2/3. You return to the fields, aiding the farmers again. Its time to milk the cows and make goat cheese, you do both for the last part of the day, recieiving a portion of cheese for your troubles.

+ [Cheese Wheel] - The size of a apple, but sweet and fresh.
>>
>>2128278
1. You turn in the loot to the quartermaster, who in return gives you a cask of wine and some choice meat. The resulting feast for you and your men raises their spirits greatly, and some even like you more then your position requires them too.

Loyalty: 4/10

2. Unfortunately your letter never made it to the rear fort, and you have no idea why. No new men are forthcoming this day.

3. It would also seem that some of the figs one of your men brought to the feast were not as good as he claimed them to be, as you and your men are confined to the latrine for the night with the runs.

>>2128295
1. You seem to only be missing the standard bearer and a few men, the missing men being in the infirmary for mostly minor injuries. No one has seen the standard bearer though...

2. Training continues, the weather is nice and the men enjoy it, and you yourself even find yourself smiling.

+ Basic Training: + 5 to all rolls commanding your 50 legionaries

3. The Goblin chief's head, or the pieces of it left after one of the griffins got at it, is now in your possession and planted on the end of a spike directly above the gatehouse.

>>2128368
1/2/3. The woods surround you, the birds chirp and grass comes up to your knees. You walk for what feels like days before the hunger finally gnaws at you. You didn't bring any food or water, and your two days away from the fort now. The drums still beat in the distance, but you also hear the bubbling of a nearby brook as well. And laughing, giggling even.

Name: Virgil Pyrrhenius Laurentinus
Fluff: A hardened fighter leading the charge and surviving through many a battle, Virgil has earned his way to the rank of centurion through a combination of luck, skill and smarts. He was from a noble family, raised to be a philosophers in the great academies of old, until the horrors of war struck and changed him. He still has much of the knowledge taught in the war colleges, and has an intimate knowledge of tactics and strategies that have turned the tide of past battles and will likely do so in the future. He is a strong leader of men as well, whipping his troops into a righteous fury to turn the tide of battle.
Class: Centurion
Location: Front Fort
---
Health: 7/10 (+1/turn)
Gear: Centurion – A commander, leads men from the front.
+ [Scutum] - 5 to attack rolls against you
+ [Gladius] + 5 to melee attacks
+ [Lorica plumata] - 15 to attacks against you
+ [Vitis] + 10 to soldiers rolls near you, provided you use it to beat them
Inventory:
+ [Locket] - In this brass clasp is the last of what remains of your family, your wife and son, lost to the fires of war. Taken from you while you were on campaign in a foreign land. Those animals, from beyond the pass you currently find yourself in, they took her, and they did things to her, they made your son watch before slaughtering him as well. They will pay, every last on of their rotten kind will pay so long as Virgil watches over this world. Fighting against barbarians drives you into a unstoppable rage, giving you a passive + 10 to attack rolls and -10 to rolls against you, however any damage you do take is doubled.
Bonus: [The Voice of a Empire] - You chastise your men with the rage of Eurdan (Roma to citizens) itself, and the men are filled with the values she represents. Duty, Honor, Glory. + 15 to all soldiers and PCs within earshot, can be used once per combat encounter.
Other stuff:
-Basic Training - +5 to all rolls commanding your 50 legionaries
In progress:
-Basic Gladius Skills (4/5)

1-2. Now the issue become what to do about the fucking standard....find the standard bearer, he shall be brought in front of a military tribunal and, if found guilty of all the shit I've been hearing about him, will be drawn and quartered, his head mounted right next to that fucking goblin.
3. I'll help oversee repairs on the front fort as well, this fort will surely fall if we don't keep it in decent shape.

1. Back into the mountains, back into the cold. It stings, as do your wounds. You trip and slam your ribs into a rock, the ribs hit screaming at you for subjecting them to further harm.

>Health: 6/10

2/3. Snow, rocks, more snow, more rocks. Man this is boring, maybe you should have just stayed at the fort and rested. AS you ponder the banality of your duty you do manage to spot a small glimmering item in snow on a nearby hill. Interesting...

>>2129882
1/2. You spend the first half of the day in the drill square with your spatha and a wooden post. After a good thrashing you switch it out for a heavier wooden spatha and spar with a legionnaire. The fight is much closer then the fight with the post though you do manage to edge the man out.

>Basic Melee 4/10

3. It would seem that everyone is much more interesting in finding a missing man then fixing the wall, but you do help those who are working. Work is slow but you still manage to fix at least one section of the wall before the sun sets.

>>2130292
1/2/3. Sleep takes you, the feeling of your hammock and fur blanket embracing you is almost as tender as the touch of women after the beating you've taken. You sleep for most of the day, and you enjoy it.

>Health: 9/10

>>2131147
1. You ask around the rear fort asking if anyone has seen the likes of the standard bearer who stabbed your friend, and none have seen the man since he ran off towards the rear fort at the end of the battle.

2. It would seem that no one in the expedition fits the bill either, though you do notice a man with a peculiar haircut and smelling faintly of horse semen and pig fat, but then just when you're about to approach the man you are interrupted by another man with similar looks and scents, asking you if you know anything about the high elves of the forest. By the time you send the man off, noting his hair and eye patch, the expedition has left

3. Ending the day you walk to the rear fort and search there, but alas the man is nowhere to be seen there either.

Day 8, Week 2

Fort life returns to normal for the most part, men resume their training, work continues on the restoration of the fort, and patrols are sent out into the mountain passes. A certain man of some infamy has captivated the common soldiery and camp followers however, apparently having swindled some of the commanders of the frontal fort out of something (some say gold, some say he bedded Vincentius's slave-boy) and they are tearing the valley apart looking for him. It keeps things lively at least.

He eagerly awaits his retirement, whereupon he has plans to retire in the capital and live as a decadent patrician for the rest of his days... if he survives the siege, that is.
Class: Centurion

+ [Gladius] + 5 to melee attacks
+ [Lorica plumata] - 15 to attacks against you
+ [Vitis] + 10 to soldiers rolls near you, provided you use it to beat them
Inventory:
+ [Sack of Gold And Gemstones]
+ [Sack of Gold] - Even out here, men can be persuaded to do unthinkable things for the right price. 1 time use.
Bonus: [War-Dog] - Vincentus has seen more battles then years he has lived, he's slain more men on the field of battle then he has in the tents at camps. For men like him, war isn't a chore, but a way of life. + 10 to all combat rolls (personal).

Vincentus had no initial reaction to someone finding the standard bearer's corpse. No, for the first few moments he had stared at nothing, impassive. Then, a look of fury entered his eyes, and the grizzled veteran clutched his gladius.

"Someone has KILLED our standard bearer, with his, OUR own standard. Someone much more capable than any -goblin-. One of our own."

Vincentus raised one trembling finger, rattling his gladius in its sheath. "There will be -hell- to pay. For -someone-."

1. First, Vincentus demands that the standard be refurbished to the best of the century's ability. If they truly MUST, the soldiers are given small portions of Vincentus' stack of gold, to bribe for favors and acquire the necessary bits.

2/3. THEN, once the standard has been repaired to at least acceptable standing, this matter is brought up to our higher officers at the Rear Fort. Our standard bearer was slain by human hands: there is a turncoat among us, and, what's more, someone has also murdered an auxilliary's men. The Century needs replacements for its casualties... and the matter of this murder needs investigating.

Name: Agrobrigos Nantu Gallaeci
Fluff: Son of a Gallaeci Chief, ever since the Romans conquered our lands there has been relative peace in the region. Several revolts but relatively peaceful. The Romans let us conduct our affairs with little interruption, but they do when things don't go as they please, such as when certain clans attack other clans in their pocket. We were a powerful tribe before, but the wars took much of our power and playing by the rules have been hard. Agrobrigos partook in a raid deep into Roman territory with the Cantabrii and Asturii but, the raid failed and they were captured. His Clan's status allowed him to simply be taken as a hostage and he learned some of the Roman ways. After a few years, he realized that if he served in the army, he could gain land and send it home. This would give how clan the power it needed to become a dominant power, and possibly, free.

1. Awakening the day after his disastrous prayer, Batiatus feels quite strange - his chest still hurts, and he somehow feels less confident than he normally would about his prospects in battle. Blaming it on the kick to the sternum he took, Batiatus heads to the medical tents.

>Seek healing

2/3. Heading back towards the stables, something occurs to the young Equite - maybe Neptune was just pissed at him, and made him eat shit, because he offered a shitty sacrifice. Batiatus thinks for a while, and unable to figure out a way he can find a bull that isn't vital to the war effort, he climbs to the top of the wall and swears an oath to the gods.

"Lord Neptune!" He cries into the tossing wind, aware that the beasts loitering in the forests can probably hear him. "Forgive me, and I will grant you the flesh of ten thousand barbarians! Their blood will flow like the tides, and a red sea will blossom before the Spite, a mark of your glory forever!"

Known for surviving like a cockroach from basically any engagement and never having enough proof to name him a coward (there's always someones blood on his sword at the end of day) Vaughan has ascended to the rank of Standard Bearer in hopes that his uncanny survival ability will save him or he'll be revealed as a career deserter and face military tribunal.

Its unlikely that anyone would notice his death.

1. Work begins on a new standard, one to resemble your old one but have that new empire chic that the senators are always riving about these days. Though beatings inspire the men quite well, they cannot get all the materials they need for a new standard by force of will alone. You relent and dispense several gemstones and a dozen gold coins, as these riches are better spent saving your back from the general's lash then given to him when he strips you of your command for losing your standard. The shaft is carved and polished, and a new flag, red as blood with the symbol of the legion emblazoned on it, hung from the crossbar. All that remains is the finial, the symbol of your century. As your standard was given to you and not custom made, and the legion was ramshackle enough not to to reliably know what the brass ornament was, you have the free range to make this as you wish. You'll need a proper smith to make it though.

>New Standard: 4/5
>[Sack of Gold And Gemstones] --> [Small Sack of Gold and Gemstones]

2/3. Your requisitions for men from the rear fort are obtained and accepted, and your matter brought before the Praefectus castrorum, who it would seem had heard of your debacle, before directing you towards a standard in his room, your old standard, though the emblem it once had atop its shaft was replaced by a snake devouring itself.

The man, a older man by the name of Canus Icilius, raises his hand to silence you before you speak...

"We found it just outside the walls, a man, a standard bearer, was reported as dropping it before running into the hills. In light of the fact that this was stolen from you in battle, and its bearer died defending it, you will not be punished for losing it. Don't think that we haven't seen you making a new one as well. You'll allowed to finish your new standard, as the general, the Tribune, and myself expect to be dealing with a new century from this point on. You have our consent to hunt down the traitor that did this however, as there is no telling what he may do next."

With that you are dismissed to your post.

1/2. Again you rise early and step into the training yard, and though your muscles ached from the long day prior you once again raise your spatha and set to it. A full two-thirds of the day you work, from morning to afternoon, and you further improve your skills

Basic Melee: 8/10

3. The evening is spent on the wall, further aiding the slowed repair efforts. Its almost as if you and few others are concerned on fixing the damn thing in time for the next attack, which can't be that far away not that you think about it.

Name: Boar
Fluff: A "citizen soldier" of brutish looks and seemingly dull intelligence. However those who spend time around him often complain of his strangely watchful eyes which seem to always be drinking in all information around him. Commended in the past for sounding a horn in the night to warn of an ambush by barbarian forces. Boar continues his watch a loyal soldier even against all odds.
Class: Legionnaire

Inventory:
+ [Spyglass] - A trinket from the far west, a set of various size glasses that allow you to see far off things with clear vision.
+[Poisoned Arrowhead]
Bonus: [A Warning] - Almost like a 6th sense, you are somehow keenly aware of danger before it occurs.

1/2. The last any man remembers seeing of the standard bearer was when the ballista bolt from a goblin war engine smashed into the wall and destroyed his standard, then the troll came and threw him into a nearby tower. After that no man can recall what happened to the man from the fighting. A few centuries down from yours however was Vincentus's century, who apparently had their standard bearer murdered and their standard stolen. It would seem that something is afoot here, and your most likely source of answers is your fellow commander...

3. You are too busy piecing together the puzzles of what happened to your standard and its bearer to oversee anything, and in the meantime it would seem that a nearby section of wall that was to be repaired has instead crumbled even more.

1. You throw strips of meat at your bird while speaking names to it, it screeches each time before you get one that it seems to like. "Pingue" it coos as it tears into the latest morsel tossed its way.

2. You bring your pomegranates and cheese and bring it to the infirmary, splitting it amongst the wounded men there. Several appreciate the effort, and one man presses a small coin into your hand. "If ever their comes a time where you are in great need, simply press this coin into your flesh and you will be saved."

3. You join several others in drilling in the courtyard of the rear fort, practicing till late in the evening with your longsword. It heft soon becomes familiar in your hands, and you feel yourself becoming quite adept in its use.

1. You coach your bird, by now the two of you almost speaking without words. A raised finger, a tucked wing, a slouched shoulder, a tightening of Zhayed's rear legs. A downward turn of the nose and... Perfect!

+ [Dramatic Posturing] - Can expend an action in combat to flaunt your stuff and grant a +10 to all who witness Zhayed's splendor that turn.

2. It would indeed seem that Lucenia has been practicing much more then you have at the art of the blade, as he soundly trounces you without even breaking a sweat. In fact, he doesn't even appear to be aware that you two have dueled, instead moving onto the next opponent without breaking stride. You note his form, his concentration, and work later to apply it to yourself.

>Basic Melee: 2/10

3. One could never train enough, for war and battle always was ready to surprise the man who thought he had come prepared, and that man was often the one that ended up dead. AS such you train with the griffin riders who are available to train with you in formation flights, and by the end of the evening have worked out a solid formation that only needs some adjustments before it could be said to be "sound" and "reasonable".

1/2/3. Another day's march and you find yourself at the top of the peak of the nearby mountain upon which that damnable glimmer caught your eye. It would seem that it was not a exposed vein of ore as you thought, but rather a hole, a shaft to be exact, with a oddly shaped lantern of a strange metal hanging over it. The Legionary that accompanied you also seems keen to venture inside.

>>2133411
1/2. The furnace, without much ado, is done, and now you make begin to smelt ore to your hearts content. Its basic, and you have to use a horse's water trough for a quencher and lack a proper anvil, but it will work for now.

+ Basic Smithy - You are now able to smelt and reform metals at the frontal fort, though as this is the bare minimum required to call this a "smithy" you receive no bonus to crafting rolls.

3. The mark is simple enough, you figure if you can make it into a brand and enchant that, you may be able to apply said mark with some magic into other items, this will require much work though.

"You must sacrificeeeee one who is close to you, one who trust you. You must do this in a moment of utter compassion and love, for we despise these pitiful "virtues" the highest among all others."

And with that the black masses recede from your room, though your mind still burns with arcane and writhing knowledge of that which man was never supposed to know.

1/2/3. As a solitary being , you've not one to betray to these dark powers, but you have a mouse in your room you are particularly sweet towards. The beast sleeps in your sandals and you feed him table scraps from your rations. You've found the first honest companion in your life in the form of this fuzzy thing, and at first light you take a rock and bash its furry face in. You feel more powerful, but also more hollow. 1.The men seem distracted once again, claiming to hear sweet songs emanating from the woods, calling them. They drill, but you can clearly tell that their minds are somewhere else.

2. The injured men are unable to leave the infirmary as of yet, and it would seem that your message did not reach command again, as no new troops are forthcoming.

3. Absolutely stuck up with the state of affairs at the wall you decide that what you need is some fresh air. Not stupid, you take some of your best men and set out into the woods beyond the walls, hoping to find something to kill to vent your frustration on. A massive drake bursts through the woods answering your call. The thing is the size of two bears and belches out a caustic blast of green fire. A tumultuous battle follows as you and your best men spar with the beast, avoiding its fire and claws. It skin is harder then iron as you and your men's weapons harmlessly bounce off of it, and just when you think you'll have to run you spot it, a crack, a missing scale. Finally you manage to drive your gladius through the crack in its scales and pierce the beast's heart, the green fire pouring out its wound and around you. You feel a power in the flame, and a voice, a voice from your homeland, it speaks like your father, but also like... like a father to all, you feel.

"My son, the people suffer greatly under the heel of your brother. The Empire is tearing itself apart and you brother makes deals with foreign nations to the east that would see our country pillaged and raped all so that the my weaker son will keep his throne. I have found God, the only God, and he has granted me this chance to bless you. Go forth into the nearby clearing, there you will find a boon, a gift, you must raise it as you would your own son, for you shall bear no trueborn heirs so long as your brother sits on the throne. But this God is a righteous God as well, and when the times come you must forgive your brother, and welcome him with open arms."

The fire starts to fade, the bright yellow of the beasts eyes fading, the voice begins to falter as well...

"Just know Manuel, I love you, both of you, dearly. Do not let these earthly struggles deny my sons of salvation..."

The Drake is dead, and as his father instructed him so, Manuel did venture into a nearby clearing, and perched in the center of a crater, ringed by smoldering rock, was a egg, red as the setting sun and glowing with an ethereal energy.

>Basic Melee: 3/10

2. Taking the lessons you learned from the mountain top, you try to work them into a spell you yourself can use. Your hard work pays off as you can replicate the spell, but only in a less powerful state currently.

+[Minor Lighting Enchantment] - + 5 to large enemies. Last for one combat encounter. 2 Turn Cooldown.

3. The men in the mountains left the day prior, you missed the trip. Nothing to do now but wait around. A centurion sees this and instead puts you to work peeling beets.

"Son of Man, you must go forth and bring unto me the head of a champion of the dark powers, do this and you will have my favor."

And just like that your horse is again staring at you with its big blank eyes, before turning to nibble on a nearby goblin corpse absentmindedly.

1/2. You separate yourself from the main group and forge ahead on the path. You are first to discover that the supposed ore vein at the top of the hill is actually a tunnel entrance, and chance yourself a few feet into it to see if anything valuable comes to your eye. No sooner then you had taken 6 steps into the tunnel did the floor drop out from underneath you, and you fall for several seconds into a pool of warm water. You float for awhile, pondering just what it was in your life that brought you too this point, before swimming towards a light on a nearby shore. Its a firefly of some sort.

1/2/3. A nearby flask of wine and roasted rabbit meat on leavened bread with olive oil provides ample food as you hide in the bushes and watch the stream for the origin of the giggling noise. To no large surprise it is several women, frolicking in the stream while singing, the water seeming to play with them as well. You can but help and watch these nude women wash themselves, one hand on the wine flask and the other "adjusting" your belt. Day 9, Week 2

Rumors abound as life at the fort is back to its slow steady pace. Men drill, walls are repaired, soldiers leap at the chance to go on patrol to get out of their cramped quarters and the same post day in and day out. Nothing has been heard from the mining expedition sent into the hills, though it has only been a day or so, but stranger still is the report that a legionary set out from the wall 2 days ago, as if in a trance, and headed straight into the woods. He has not been heard from since. Furthermore, it would seem that others are joining him, and some men report that they can hear faint, but beautiful voices on the horizon, calling them, beckoning them to the woods and beyond.

Instead of being viewed as a loss, however, this natural skill at spontaneous destruction was honed, refined, and given entirely new scope. Now on the front line, The hardly-a-man Antorius has dozens of notes and concepts ready to be tested on the endless hordes of Goblins.

1. Only a griffin knight has been reported as leaving the rear fort for the village beyond. Apparently the chap likes to help the farmers harvest their crops, and he always returns with goods.

2. You pray and fast for the duration of the afternoon, but no sign is forth coming in your search.

3. The only thing you manage to drum up in your search is that a party left for the mountains with a man no one recognized and smelled faintly of birds, what kind of bird is anyone's guess, but they've been gone for two days now.

>>2138123
1. The tome is still foreign to you, and with your master gone it would seem you can read even less of it then what you could before. You do manage to piece together some sort of passage about filling undead with so much necrotic energy that they explode outward as the vessel can no longer contain the energy, but the incantations are still foreign to you.

>[Undead Mine] 2/10

2/3. Curses curses curses. As a sufferer of quite a few curses Servius is well versed in the art of them, even though he knows none of them himself. He could go anyway with them, he need only make a decision...

> 5/10 on a curse you choose (Pm me several choices and I'll tell you what flies)

>>2138447
1/2/3. Offering a prayer to the God of smiths and metal Leo took his first tentative steps into the shaft. Quickly the ground sloped down before his feet and he just managed to catch himself before plummeting down the darkness. A charm on his waist band was not so lucky, and flew down the shaft until several seconds later Leo heard a splash. He had a choice to make, fall and see what was below or head out of the shaft, as the only way forward...

Was down.

>>2138499
1. A quick melee before flight drills was the norm for the men, but Caelum used this time to practice a new technique he observed from Lucenia the other day. It's not quite ready but he is making strides.

>Basic Melee 5/10

2. A prolonged lecture over lunch followed by actual practice has aided the men in learning your tricks greatly, in time they will all fly as gracefully as Zhayed.

Advanced Training 7/10

3. Though he can't carry entire stones by himself, Zhayed is strong enough to ferry mortar and tools to the places that need it most, and with his aid construction efforts have been speed up just slightly enough to be called efficient.

>>2138503
1. The ride is unevenful, save for the moment that Pingue unexpectedly dove after a deer it spotted and tore the animal in half before greedily gulping down the rest. Not chastising your mount for this action seems to have endeared the beast to you, if but a little.

>Bonded Mount: 1/10

2/3. Letting Zhayed Roam free you aid in reconstruction efforts and help at the infirmary at the fort. Though you are but a man you do sense that your actions have aided quite a few today.

> +0.3% of causalities returned to wounded soldier classes over 50 in number

>>2138583
1. Cleverly you try to switch your eye-patch, expecting the covered eye to be able to see in the dark as it has been shut for some time now. Unfortunately you did not expect said eye-patch to be so thin that your eye having been shut has in fact made no difference from your daytime vision. You still cannot see.

What you can do however is feel, and you soon scoop up handfuls of the foul smelling mud and coat yourself in the muck. Eventually you just resolve to roll around in it for a few seconds until you fell it covering every inch of your body.

3. "Fred" Hears a splash behind him, though far to small to be a person. Silence follows, then skittering is heard all around him, and the gnashing of teeth.

>>2138661
1. With no leads you reduce yourself to talking to the barbarian that was unfortunate enough to get stabbed by the traitor. The man cannot walk nor move a muscle without aid, but he can faintly gurgle out words with much effort. Withholding water from the savage and holding up the remains of your standard and a chicken feather found at the scene you manage to get him to stutter out "s.ss...smm- smaaaaaaaaaa....lll" and "r...roo...roo-oo-mm..." before he passes out from the effort.

2. Training proceeds well as well, and you feel the old strength and skills returning to you as when you were but a humble legionnaire.

+ [Basic Gladius Skills] - + 5 to attacks using only your gladius.

3. As commander the man has no choice but to obey you, and >>2135953 is now in your century, bringing it back up to full strength.
>>
>>2138691
1/2. The men find it somewhat presumptuous for you to presume it is a dragon egg and not just a colorful rock you found in the woods, but they carefully store it in the blacksmith's furnace all the same, telling the fool (>2138113) that if he breaks the thing he'll be hearing from Centurion, and that it will be his head.

3. Two letters are sent out, and two letters returned. You will receive the men you need to replenish your century, and from the infirmary it would seem that most of your men did infact end up in there. Ten New soldiers from the rear and twenty-still laid up in the medical ward. Your century will be at full strength once they heal.

>>2138829
1. A smith at the frontal fort who has just set up shop offers to take your commission, free of charge of course. He did ask for a small fee, but the "encouragement" from your Vitis soon reminded him who was in charge here.

>>2138113 is now ordered to work on a standard for Vincentus, tell him what you would like it to be. He also receives a +10 to the roll from the beating you gave him.

2/3. Your fellow commander informs you of what he has learned. The barbarian unlucky enough to last meet the man managed to spit out that he was small and of roman descent. With this you also know he smells of chickens as well.

>>2138835
1/2/3. You attempt to be the first in the cave but the lackwit mage proceeds ahead of you and your torch. You see the man fall down what appears to be a slope, only just managed to grab hold of a rock near him. He dropped something as well, as you hear a splash not too long after. You feel something as well, a pinprick sensation on the back of your neck. There's something down there, you're sure of it, and its hungry. They're hungry...

1. You try to "take it easy" but fail that, as in rising out of your ruck to rest you trip and fall flat on your face, the resulting nosebleed and headache persist for the rest of the morning.

>Health: 8/10

2. You can't concentrate on swinging a sword with all this damn blood and this bleeding headache. You resolve to try again tomorrow and call it a day as you retire to your quarters.

3. Back in bed, you make lighting dance on your finger tips as you imagine yourself atop that mountaintop once more, the rush of the bolt coursing through your body. It all feels so fresh, and before you know it you're actually holding a bolt in your hands, if for but a second, then its gone again.

+ [Lighting Bolt] - Upgrade to lighting bolt, copy its description. Obviously it is more deadly .

>>2138897
1/2. It was a long and hard road, but you have finally completed enough training to be described as adequate.

+ [Basic Melee] - Enough hand to hand and close quarters combat training has made you compentant enough to know what you're doing in the thick of combat. + 5 to all melee combat rolls.

3. The wall is starting to look whole again as you put some final touches on the damaged sections along with several others.

>>2138927
1. A long road, with long days, but the unit is better for it.

+ [Advanced Training] - Replaces Basic Training. + 10 to rolls with fellow Equites.

2. The spear is a much more finesse weapon then the sword. Less chopping, as it will do you no good, and you must maintain proper distance when using it. You learn these lessons as you train with the shaft and tip.

>Basic Hasta Skills: 4/5

3. Apolla has changed, you notice this. His coat seems more... Golden. His teeth, once just flat and straight across, have narrowed into fine points. Even his eyes seem fiery compared to the dull eyes of other horses. The horse appreciates the meat, but turns its nose at the fruit you offer it.

>Bonded Mount 9/10

Day 10, Week 2

Days march on as the songs in the distance rise in tone. Repairs on the walls continue, as does the hunt for the traitor in the ranks. It appears as though the men are all improving in skill, no doubt hardened by the first wave adn the constant training thereafter, and some of the first wounded are returning to duty. This is considered a good thing, as no doubt more attacks will come sooner rather then later.

1-3. It could be a horrible way to die. To fall and break his legs on hidden stones and jagged edges beneath the rocks, or worse, drown from exhaustion for not finding a way out.

Leo attempted to climb his way out but, either he slipped his hold or the fools courage in him made his fingers release his grasp, he fell down into the shaft.

He yet remains unmarried, and it's an open secret that he's quite fond of slave men, for if he got himself a wife he'd have to share his riches.
Instead of being viewed as a loss, however, this natural skill at spontaneous destruction was honed, refined, and given entirely new scope. Now on the front line, The hardly-a-man Antorius has dozens of notes and concepts ready to be tested on the endless hordes of Goblins.

Fluff:
Nobody is really aware of where Gaius came from. Quite frankly nobody around Braxios' Fighting 15th has seen the man before and nobody can recall fighting alongside him during the siege. However after the first wave he just kind of showed up ready to fight. Overall Gaius is an uninteresting character with conforming opinions and attitudes. Its unlikely that anyone would notice his death.

Bonus: [Unseen] - Enemies will not attack you unless you directly attack them, furthermore, people will not notice you unless you speak up or do something to make yourself known.

1-3. The time to move on had come. Having moved on this far Gaius would not turn back now. These women certainly were not of a sensible nature as there was no way that they had not noticed the vast warband that must have passed by not all too long ago, inhabiting a forest that regrew at an unnatural pace.

Eventually Gaius would reach the origin of the drum beat in the distance, however for now he would follow their hypnotic call.

-Basic Gladius Skills - +5 to all rolls with just your gladius

1. Using the witness's knowledge along with looking through the records and talking to key witnesses I uncover I'll have a poster made of that traitorous standard bearer and hang it up on all the walls, especially around the gatehouses. Then I'll banish that fucker from the fort and let the wolves eat him. I'll have the message passed along to any nearby villages to ensure that if he is spotted that he's captured and brought to justice here.
2. That odd...singing along the walls has gotten too much. It can only mean sirens or witches of some sort, and if that's the case it can only mean bad things for the fortress. Let no one leave the fortress without prior authorization from a centurion and attempt to recall EVERYONE outside the walls that still has a mind of their own. Anyone who doesn't return will be punished.
3. In the meantime we'll occupy the people's time with training and self-improvement. I'll begin training my century further.

1/2/3. The fall was long, and leo tumbled about 4 times before he finally hit the water below. It was oddly warm, and he swore he could see a faint orange light some distance under the surface. Near the shore he could just make out the shape of a man, running deeper into the cavern, and the sound of something(s?) skittering all around him.

>>2142354
1. Work picks up all around the wall as the men prepare for the inevitable next wave, and as the Sanctimonious singing reaches a fever pitch only miles from the wall. Vincentus, as one of the two commanders of the front section of the wall and its de facto siege master, orders his men to collect more pitch from the swamps behind the wall, which they oblige and return to with buckets and bucket of the stuff. Other centuries are sent on this task as well, thus returning with trifold the amount one century would bring it by itself.

> + 1/8 Ton of Pitch

2/3. Nothing at either forts gives you any idea if the man is there, in fact it would seem more probable now after 3 days of looking that he isn't at either fort. No one has left the fort for the empire, so he either went into the woods, or into the mountains...

>>2142365
1/2/3. Not hurting for cloth, metal or teeth you begin work on the standard. Your back hurts after a night of the centurions "lash" so your work is decent, but slow.

>New Standard 3/8

>>2142383
1/2/3. Leaving the bewildering witches behind, you leave for greener pastures deeper in the woods. Eventually the songs of the sirens fade and you began to notice snow falling. It is cold here, and you only have enough rabbit to last you 2 days if you ration it. The drums have grown louder though, and figures seem to stalk the woods, tall as trees and almost ethereal in appearance.

>>2142386
1/2. Setting up a target near the other archers of the auxiliaries you practice with your claimed bow. The archers, some Britons themselves, scoff at you, for they hardly expect a roman horsemen to be proficient with a bow, when the Romans themselves hardly used bows, leaving that task to auxiliaries like themselves. However, in grand fashion you amaze them all, including yourself, with skill even you did not know that you possess.

+ Basic Archery 4/5

3. After a day in the courtyard practicing the bow you retire to the infirmary. Most of the wounded here are of grievous injury, but you still use what decent knowledge of medicine you know to help those who remain to heal faster.

1/2. The morning calls to Mark, and he spends it in the infirmary helping those who are too wounded to help themselves. It would appear the Lucenia is some sort of savant, as his tends the last few men still waiting on proper treatment, saving the lives of no less then 12 men.

>0.5% of casualties returned to wounded soldier classes over 50 in number

>>There are no more wounded that can be treated to return numbers to the garrison, all infirmary actions will now only speed up the recovery of the men already in there.

3. Mark returned to his griffin with the pieces of meat the hospital staff didn't feel like burying. Mostly goblin meat with some barbarian chunks thrown in. Mark tossed the scraps to his bird, which since a violent outburst and maiming of a small boy had to be pinned up when not being groomed or flown. The massive beast greedily gulped down the fresh meat, the gleam in his eye when he looks at you fading, replaced by a cold respect, and perhaps, thankfulness.

>Bonded Griffin 5/10

1/2. As any hero would do in such a situation, the valorous Vaughan bolts blazingly out of the Capacious cavern, the sordid sound of unknown umber shapes resounding behind him and he made his way deeper into the cavern, following the warm breeze that seems to cycle every few minutes, and rumble as well. Perhaps this was the way out, as hot air blew in from outside.

3. Picking up a handful of mud Vaughan heroic tosses it with all his might. Unbeknownst to him said mud would strike a comrade straight in the face, the rock inside of it drawing blood. It would seem that the chicken thief was at it again...

>>2142576
1. You quickly ponder the possibility that the Griffin rider would not only dress up as a lower rank, but also abandon his mount and risk his life to do some unknown task, you quickly rule this out as preposterous and bury the matter.

2. More pressingly, it would seem that none of your battle brothers answer your call to hunt. Clord, one who you would dare call a brother, is the only one who answers the call, and tells you that the rest of your clan has decided that you, and you alone, must hunt this man, the shaman has said it is so, and the stars show this as your path.

3. Alone you set out into the mountains above the forts, the cold wind biting at your cloak as you ascend once more into their frigid peaks. The group, a three man procession, is not very discreet in covering their tracks, and you quickly pick up trail. They are three days into the mountain by now, but as a smaller group, and not needing to rest as much, you can catch them in two.

>Tracking the Expedition: 2/3
>>
>>2142692
1/2. You follow your charge into the dark, but not ass over head as he did, rather you descend into the pit in a slow and controlled fashion. You hear him hit the water just as you reach the dropping point, a whole in the tunnel floor as wide as a house and seemingly borne from... fire? The stone around it is melted. You attach a rope you brought with you to a nearby rocky outcropping, tying it firmly around a column thicker then you are. You tug on it several times and then offer a prayer to Orcus, the oldest God of the Underworld, and most likely the only one to be concerned with this forgotten place, and then descend.

3. You slowly descend into the cavern, the light from the entrance of the tunnel showing the roof stretching out beyond you in all directions. This is massive, it might be as big as the mountain that sits over it, perhaps bigger then that. Your prayer, however, seems to be scorned as you hear it, quiet at first then horrifying loud in an instant. Its the sound of a rope snapping. You can't even scream as you suddenly find yourself falling down down down into the blackness. You finally strike the water, your armor absorbing most of the impact. You sink into the water, before swimming back up to the surface. You can hear the breathing of the mage next to as you break the water's surface, and the sound of someone else running, what seems like away, farther off. You then hear the sound of a man's grunt, an exertion of effort, then the whistling of something flying through the air fast. A rock slaps you firmly in the face, busting your nose and sending you down into the drink again. The mud that follows is insult to injury, as the much splashes into your face.

>>2142726
1. In a morning's work you manage to get a (crudely and awfully generic looking) portrait of the man you suspect to be guilty of murder, theft, dereliction of duty, abandoning of a post while under duress and most importantly, DESTROYING YOUR STANDARD. You have scribes make numerous copies of the poster and send it out amongst both forts and the village behind.

2. All new patrols outside the walls are cancelled, the gates are barred and any man seen trying to leave is thrown into the brig for the night. You shut down paths for those trying to enter the woods, and after the last patrol returns you loudly proclaim that you'll "Execute any man who ventures out from these walls until those BITCHES stop their WAILINGS!"

Some men appear to be somber, as tails have arisen of fine maidens in the woods who are offering to have relations with any man who enters.

3. To distract your men from the missed opportunity of magical puss, you instead resolve to drill them until they fall asleep.

"For the next week, this sword will be the only pussy you boys will be getting! Your days of finger-banging ol' Livia Ocellina Rotten-crotch are over!"

The men are spurred on by your rants and beatings, and shaping up into a real fighting unit!

Though you are disgraced and in exile, your name still carries weight in the empire, and doubtlessly others will respond to your call for aid if they can. The first letter arrives at lunch, then another at training, several follow in dinner, and by nightfall no less then 2 cities, 6 villages, and 5 roving bands of mercenaries have responded to your call.

>Basic Training does not apply here as this is training roll, which is a personal roll, nor does crown of the preserver.

2. This should be art, it looks like art, and men below clap as your squadron makes the simple act of passing a ball into a spectacle of the highest order. You are truly in sync as you act more like a single being then a collection of men and beasts.

+ Advanced Training: Replaces Basic Training, + 10 to rolls cooperating with your fellow griffin riders.

3. The gates are barred, the watches set with men that have been known to have not wandered into the woods yet, and now overhead a griffin soars quietly, his bright feathers shining in the moonlight. None would pass into the woods on this night, and indeed none did. The singing was sweetly sick to you however, and it takes all of your will to not turn the reins towards the forest and head into its warm embrace.

A voice speaks inside your head, the voice of a mother, long forgotten. The voice of a lover left behind. The voice of a childhood friend who you never forgot.

"Please... Caelum... Come home to me..."

1. It would seem that there are no slaves to be had at the frontal wall, or the rear fort for that matter. No free slaves at least. You'd have to get creative to get the blood you'll need for this ritual.

1. Batiatus broods through the night as thunder booms and lightning snaps through the air in bright gashes - when the order comes to stay inside the walls, it doesn't affect him much. He's thinking about Apollo .. and those smears of blood. The next morning, Batiatus walks quickly to the stables and wastes no time in securing his steed. "Hey, pal - " He says, holding meat secreted away from his breakfast. "Want to go for a ride?"

>Bond with Apollo

2. Condemning now his orders to stay behind the wall, Batiatus rides the horse around with his hasta leveled - he seems focused on training with his own weapon, unique enough among his spatha wielding comrades to warrant working solo.

>Train with Hasta

3. The men are afraid, as always - Batiatus knows how to handle it. He gathers the Equites atop their mounts, summoning even those rare friends who ride griffins, and speaks to them of loyalty - to their homeland, to their families, to each other. It is not weapons training - but if he's lucky, it may be better use of his time than a week of drills.

>Bond with Equites / Train Loyalty
