After hearing that Scarlet shut herself in her room following exam results from Terry, the two of you are here to take her out! The problem now, is that you have no idea how you ended up in this situation! Scarlet is acting all weird, and you are basically trapped in her room with her.

(Assume she has her lisp unless I say otherwise.)

“I’m sorry, I didn’t want to be mean.” You tell her, hands raised in apology. These things still happen to you, don't they?
“N-no! It’s my fault! I was making you uncomfortable.” She ends up dropping her phone. Her lisp is getting to you more and more… “Whoops…” She bends down to grab it, and you catch a glimpse of her ass without wanting to. You easily dismiss this, keeping your focus on the task at hand.
“Look, I don’t want to sound cruel or anything, but why are you acting so weird? I won’t judge; I've dealt with weirder people.”
“W-w-weird…? I-I guess I’m weird.” Scarlet looks a little bit gloomy, though thankfully not Uccelli’s level yet.
“No, you’re acting weird.” You want to make sure she gets it, emphasizing her actions. “I came here to help you, so if there is something wrong, anything wrong at all, I’m here to talk. Okay? So explain to me what’s going on.” Well talking on her bed is a little awkward, but you have no other worthwhile options.

“I just wanted to pass a fun time with my friend Johnny!” She gets awfully close to you. “B-besides, you surprised me! I-I wasn’t expecting you here, so I didn’t have the time to prepare and make myself pretty… A-and my lisp gets really bad when I get nervous.”
“Why are you so nervous if we’re friends? Shouldn’t you be relaxed?” You point this out easily.
“Y-you’re a guy, a-and you’re in my room! A-and I look like a slob! And my room is messy! And don’t know what else to say!” She gets all red! You feel bad for her, and even worse because you still have no real clue on what is going on.

How do you respond?

>“Let’s watch another video, then.” This is going to be awkward regardless of what you say. Watching more videos will calm her down more, and might get you to coax the info out of her safely, without her potentially going full retard about all this.
>“No, seriously. You've been like this since the exam results. I want to make sure you’re going to be fine from now on, so tell me what I need to do to help you. ” You’re tired of playing around! Being super direct should get her to stop distracting and delaying you.
>Call Terry! Getting him here should speed things up. If you can pull off the balancing act of keeping Terry from saying more shit, while keeping Scarlet focused on your words, maybe this can work?

Votes that require a dice roll are counted until 10 minutes have passed.

I use the average (the mean) of the 3 best rolls and success will be determined by the difficulty I specify for the action or prompt. If there are less than 3 rolls I’ll do the math with the ones I have.
Above 50 is a success on a normal roll. Above 60 is a success on a hard roll. The hardest rolls I won’t specify because I find it more fun if I don’t.

You get right at her head height and look at her straight in the eyes. She gets even redder!

“No, seriously. You’ve been like this since the exam results. I want to make sure you’re going to be fine from now on, so tell me what I need to do to help you.” You’re dead serious about this, and your tone says as much.
“…I’m sorry for making you worry.” She looks down, wringing her hands in worry.
“You still need to tell me what you need.” Jeez, get to the point woman!
“I don’t want to ask you for anything, you've helped me so many times and it was supposed to be the other way around. I was supposed to be your supporting friend after all that bad things that happened to you, and it all ended up like this…” She's getting a bit calmer now, that's good.
“Scarlet…” You give her an even look.
“I’m just having a hard time in general… B-b-b-but I-I’ll be fine if I don’t have to do my end of the bet though…”
“I came here to talk, so if you want to discuss it, I'm all ears.” You try to channel that big brother influence you supposedly have!
“I’m a positive girl, so don’t sweat it!” She smiles back at you, forced. So positive she ended up crying her problems away in a spiral of depression and ice cream.
“Scaaarleeet…?” Again, but a more stern look this time.
“Please! You don’t have to do anything more! Just one question, though…”
“What is it?”
“Do you prefer me like this, or like always?”
“I don’t follow; you mean appearance wise?"
“…Take it as you will.” Scarlet says in a small voice while looking away, so red she practically defines the color…

How do you respond?

“Neither. I prefer you the way you are inside, not how you try to be for other people.” You say with all honesty.
“…What a cop out.” She replies sounding disappointed, but you can tell she looks happy for a reason you don’t understand.
“I mean, why is my opinion so important to you? You shouldn’t let your friends decide who you are or who you want to be.”
“I-I-I… that’s not it!”
“Then what is it? Because that’s what it looks to me.”
“…I just don’t want to be alone anymore.” Scarlet’s gloominess is showing, also her lisp is completely gone.
“It'll be fine, just come out and show the world the real you. Trust me.” Or don’t. You did just tell her not to listen to other people's opinions, right?

“…I will.” After what felt like a solid hour of self-doubt and misery, Scarlet finally accepts to better herself, or something.
“Now let’s get out of here! It’s getting hot in here. You don't have an AC?” You stand up and unlock Scarlet’s door, casually joking to lighten the mood.
“…” She stares at you like a puppy waiting for a treat. You've seen that look from Amelia plenty of times before.
“I know you want to go out too. So come on."
“…” She keeps staring, waiting for something else.
You sigh a little, then smile at Scarlet. “I’ll call Terry too, the bet will be off. Okay?” Maybe that's what she wants?
“T-thanks… And I’m sorry for doing all of this.”
“So I’ll take it as you’re ready to leave too?”
“Yes. Again, I’m sorry for being a bother.” She stands up and walks outside, still messy but a lot more relieved. “What's a giant bag doing there?” She's noticed your prep bag.
“I… don’t really know.” You can’t tell her it was in case she went berserk or something, even though you don’t know what it's for either.

You phone Terry. “Sorry pal, the bet's off… but at least she’s out and okay.” Scarlet goes back to her room and takes the ice cream out, strolling to the kitchen with it.
“What, that’s it? Woah, you dealt with her better than I do, you didn’t even need to use the bag! I’m honestly impressed.” You can feel Terry nodding as he talks. He's not being sarcastic, but still…
“No point in talking, right? I’ll head down and open the door for you.”
“Yeah, but don’t worry. I still have the keys with me.”
You hear the front door being opened, then Scarlet’s swift steps come to a halt… After a brief pause, you hear Terry gently laughing. You go down the stairs warily.

“Don’t make a fuss about it.” Scarlet says while still a bit red; not like she was with you to get this embarrassed.
“You look cute, like you were when we were kids.” Terry says as he continues laughing. His smile, from what you can see of him from the stairs, looks genuine.
“Tch… You’re so annoying.” Scarlet doesn’t seem too pleased, arms folded. “The bet is off, right?”
“I wouldn’t say that, but I think we can change it to something you're willing to do.” Terry bargains. He's back to business.
“Fine.” Scarlet pouts.
“Good job, Johnny; she’s as good as always.” He shoots you a thumbs up as you get down there.
“I wouldn’t say that.” You say, looking at Scarlet with expectation.
“Yup!” Scarlet nods energetically. Terry is a bit confused, but you see he's relieved anyway. “You two know we’re going to pass the rest of the day watching a movie, right?”
“No problem for me. I got time.” Terry shrugs nonchalantly.
“…I just want to know what’s in the bag.” Your curiosity gets the best of you.
“Maybe next time when we will need it.” He literally handwaves your concern aside!
“There won’t be a next time!” Scarlet says with her bubbly attitude back, fists pumped up.

Not all mysteries can be resolved, right? Dealing with your friend’s internal catastrophe without losing your cool, then watching Scarlet’s dull series of movie selections, made you gain 2 points of both Courage and Handsomeness. Good one!

Well, it’s time for you to go! Terry appears to want to leave, and you can see in Scarlet’s face that she wants to take a shower, so the timing can’t get any better…!

What’s your plan for the rest of today’s evening?

(Sorry lads, a little too late to turn the tides for this one.)

Saturdays have always been synonymous with Poker Night, so let’s do that! First you’re going to ask Craig if it’s okay for the officer to come, then you’re going to call him. After having a heartfelt goodbye with Scarlet, you and Terry leave to the station. On the way you talked about various things, like what just happened and the contents of the bag, though he didn’t explain you a thing… He told you he’s going to show you if you go to the art club one of these days. He’s still on that?

Anyway, you arrived home and luckily you found Craig small-talking with one of the residents of the apartment building. When the stranger left, you took your chance and asked about the officer joining in the games… Craig said there was no problem, but reminded you they are kind of a shady crowd… Not sure who's really shady in there. Sewel perhaps? Maybe Mr. Conti sells drugs in his spare time?! With everything ready, you made the call to ex-officer Jackson! He told you to call him Roger, and he agreed to come! You wonder how the dynamic is going to change with an ex-cop like him in there.

You wait for Jackson outside the apartment building, after 10 minutes he finally arrives! He’s in casual clothing, like he’s going to play golf or something. With how seriously some people out there take golf, you understand the deeper meaning behind his outfit.
“Officer Jackson! Good to have you here.” You greet the valiant and reckless officer. He did save your ass, after all!
“Good to see you Johnny… and I told you, just Roger from now on.”
“Alright, how is retirement treating you?”
“Retirement? That’s a step too far, just a change of job. My partner didn’t take it too well, but not everything is going to go perfectly.” He smirks, self-assured.
“Oh, by the way, they're a special crowd of sorts, if you know what I mean.”
“I was a police officer, I’m used to dealing with jackasses all day.” His smirk widens into one of legitimate smug joy.
“Alright.” What else can you say to a man like this? He sure is enjoying himself though, but you haven't even introduced him to the others!

You knock on Craig’s door, and he opens soon enough.
“Hi kid and…” Craig has an easygoing smile as always.
“Roger. Roger Jackson.” The ex-policeman replies, nodding.
“Nice to meet ya. Name's Craig, it’s a pleasure.” Craig extends his hand out to him.
“The pleasure is all mine.” They shake hands.

You two get inside and woah, the place is packed! Everyone's here, and you really mean everyone! You, Mr. Jackson, Craig, Sewel, Mr. Conti, Osgood, Fatso Bradford and Martin Helmaer! What the hell is going on...?!

“Woah, what a crowd to beat.” Mr. Jackson's smirk is still in full effect.
“First time I've seen the place this full.” You reply, starting to smile yourself. The more the merrier, right?
“Ha, we're still waiting for more people though! And since we have such a crowd today, maybe we could do something a little different?” Craig is starting to get hype.
“What do you have in mind?”
“We’re going to ask everyone, but maybe I can dust off the pool table and have us play in pairs against other pairs, or we have two tables of poker and the two last survivors of each table square off in a final game… What are you up to, kid?”

Teams in pool, or a long game of poker to defeat everyone once again… One gives you better bragging rights, but is that why you really came for today?

“Team Pool sounds like it could be fun.” You tell Craig.
“Cool, cool. And you Jackson?” Craig asks your guest.
“Well, I feel confident today, so crushing people at poker could be fun.” Mr. Jackson cracks his knuckles. Well, that kind of invalidated what you wanted.

You go to where everyone is and introduced Mr. Jackson to everyone.

“Good to see you, Mr. Jackson. I’m glad to see you're doing well.” Osgood says.
“Eh, it was nothing.” Jackson replies full of confidence. “Today I feel lucky.”
“Luck hasn’t done much around here, honestly.” Osgood's ruthless side is shown.
“Jeez, you really get competitive sometimes. Good to see you both too.” Bradford replies to Osgood’s snarky comments.
“Does anyone even remember the last time this frail boy won? You have a broken arm and still expect to win…? Dumbass.” Sewel seems full of venom tonight too.
“It’s not so bad that I can’t play.” The plaster around Osgood arm is not that long.
“Also, hi boy, hopefully we get to see you break Dirty Rob’s smile again today too.” Sewel says turning his gaze to you.
“Nonsense, I’m totally prepared today to win.” Mr. Conti says showing his ego to the world.
“You're all forgetting the real superstar here! Me!” Helmaer cries trying to inject himself into the conversation.
“Isn’t the thing you're known best for getting your ass beat?” Craig jokes around.
“Ngh…” Helmaer doesn’t seem too pleased.

Just as you remember that Craig mentioned two more participants you hear a knock at the door.

“Hey hey hey! You finally came.” Craig shouts throwing open the door.
“Yeah, last time we played Ando almost beat me, and I dont mean that figuratively.” It’s none other than your guardian, Rufus Hogg! That was certainly unexpected.
“Oooh! If it isn’t my favorite member of the party? I never knew you liked poker, Hogg!” Jackson shouts coming over to pull Hogg into a hug.
“Officer Jackson! What brings you here?” Your guardian seems happy to see him.
“Well, poker! The kid invited me.” Jackson shrugs pointing at you.
“Ando? Johnny? What are you doing here?” Mr. Hogg seems pleased to see you.
“Someone had to take my father’s mantle.” You joke.
“I see…” Hogg nods, it seems he took your comment seriously.
“What mantle? Old Ando always lost! This new and improved Ando at least wins sometimes.” Osgood says.
“Hmm… What an interesting night this will be.” Hogg muses to himself.

Before the conversation can continue any further, another set of knocks appear at the door!

“That must be the old fuck!” Craig goes for the door. “Uh… Hello?” Craig seems confused.
“I have come here to inform you in the name of my grandfather that he can’t come in today to play.” That’s a girl’s voice…! And the speech, and tone sound eerily familiar...
“Ehm… That’s too bad, but why didn’t he just call? It’s not like this is the first time he's cancelled.” Craig wonders aloud.
“A true apology is done in person… That’s what he said.” There's no way... it can't be her...
“Alright, but that makes us one short for the games…”
“If necessary I can join. He already asked me beforehand.” There isn't a doubt in your mind… It's gotta be… You need to get closer to make sure!
“I don’t know if that’s going to sit well with the boys, but what the hell, join us!” Craig concedes immediately. You run next to Craig to see who it is… And yep, it’s Matilda.
“I understand… Wait, Johnny? What are you doing in there? Don’t you live upstairs?” Matilda wonders.

“Uh… Playing poker?” You state the obvious.
“I should have expected this.” Matilda replies in her usual dry tone.
“You know each other?” Craig asks.
“Yeah, we go to the same school.” You respond.
“Fantastic, then join us, it’s going to be game of team pool.”
“Team pool…?” Matilda doesn’t seem to get it.
“Yeah, in pairs, we’re 6 to 2 for pool right now.” Craig explains.
“I see…” Matilda still seems confused.
“Well, time to decide the pairings!” Craig shouts. You can hear both the officer and Mr. Conti’s frustrated cries! Welp! This got a whole lot more interesting out of nowhere! It's time to choose a partner! You should pick wisely if you want to win today!

Who do you want as your partner for the evening?

You would like to have Matilda as your partner; she’s too much of a wildcard to have her risk opposing you – besides, she doesn’t know anyone here except you and Osgood.

“Well I know everyone has someone in mind for a partner, so let’s get this thing rolling!” Craig claps multiple times at the end of his little speech. You can see everyone starting to move, searching for a partner. You get closer to Matilda.
“I know you don’t know anyone here, so do you want to team up?” You tell the always stoic girl.
“Is that Mr. Conti…?” Matilda is lost in thoughts; she shakes her head a little and replies: “Yes, of course. Let’s crush them.” She puts her fist in the air, fire clear in her eyes. This girl means business!
“Alright, do you know how to play?”
“Nope, not a clue!” Matilda says, while maintaining her confidence and pose.
“I’m not good either.” You went to a bar once or twice with your dad, and you played a bit. By 'played' you mean 'watched your dad fuck up and start threatening people under his breath', but that’s not really how professionals handle things, right?
“They look frail, old and weak. Failure is not an option; we’re playing in the name of my grandfather.” Matilda has a competitive side to her, clearly; but to get this fired up in her grandfather's name, even over something as small as a game like this…
“We?” You scratch the back of your head. Isn’t this supposed to be a casual fun game between the lads?

Well, the pairings are done and the order of play is as follows:

>Osgood and Bradford.
>Mr. Conti and Helmaer.
>Mr. Jackson and Mr. Hogg.
>Johnny and Matilda.
>Craig and Sewel.

There is only one table, so you’re going to play a very casual version of pool, because everyone seems to be absolutely terrible at it. There's a reason the table needed to be dusted off! The number on the ball is the amount of points its worth for; you need to knock out the balls between 1 and 8 before you can start to take the bigger numbers out. Knocking a ball inside doesn’t give you an extra strike, so you cannot set up any plays! The idea is for everyone to play. The two teams with the most points at the end of this round are going to play a face-to-face match! If two teams end up tieing, the one who started last is the one who goes to the next round. Show them what you’re made of!

“I can’t fucking believe I ended up playing with you AGAIN! Talk about bad luck!” Osgood groans to Bradford, facepalming.
“Hey, I’m the unlucky one here! My partner’s arm is broken! I can't carry the both of us, not even with my precise vision!” Bradford already admits defeat too! Sucks for them!

“Doesn’t seem like anyone else here came to have fun...” Mr. Hogg says to the ex-officer, rubbing the back of his neck.
“Yeah, it’s not going to be fun for them when they start losing to us.” Mr. Jackson replies with a confident grin.
“I didn’t mean that, but okay.” Mr. Hogg says back, somewhat confused but pulling himself together.

“Ready to shot, cowboy? We’re the favorites here.” Sewel asks Craig as he flexes his arms, surveying the competition.
“At your signal, coach.” Craig seems all too confident, shadow boxing! Guys, this is a game of pool, the fuck are you doing?!

With everything all settled, you all go to another room where the pool table is! Man, Craig is either really well-off, or maybe he really upped the rent of the residents here! Anyway, what a cool place!
“I’m the host, so I'm breaking.” Craig calls out as he casually does the first shot, the balls scattering on the table! “Hehe, who’s on first?”

“I am. Let me show you the accuracy of a photographer, gentlemen and madam!” A confident Bradford winks to Matilda, who raises her eyebrow in bored response. He goes in with confidence to give his best shot…!
And he completely blunders it…
“We’re so fucking done, I swear…” Osgood says in a voice of despair, as he faceplants himself onto the nearest wall, hitting his head against it a few times.
“I-I’m just getting used to the stick! Come on, man!” Bradford feigns confidence, but the dismay is real.

“Sit down, kid. Lemme show you what three years of marksman training in the academy can do!” It’s Jackson’s turn!
And he connects…! But his shot doesn't do anything of worth.
“Better luck next time, eh?” Mr. Hogg sees the positives, which are none at all.
“…” Jackson goes silent, probably contemplating where his shot went wrong.

“It’s all relatively easy geometry. You just have to angle your shots to account for friction and force loss from travel, while keeping the path as consistent as you can. Like this…” Mr. Conti steps forward, ready for his shot!
And he somehow shoots the white ball right off the table…
“…” Helmaer is not amused. Everyone is smirking or laughing at Conti. Mr. Conti sits next to Helmaer, face aghast in shame.

“My turn…” You stand up; you can place the white ball anywhere you want after what Mr. Conti just did, so this is probably the easiest shot you can have!

They all are god damn awful! But you’re not really any good yourself. You can't squander this shot, or you’ll be feeling the sting of being a laughingstock for a few minutes, too! Which ball are you going for?

You feel like you have something to prove, maybe if you put in the correct shot you can collect on two balls at the same time… A well-placed shot.
“Go for it, Johnny. Show them the results of your training!” Philonune cheers you on from your shoulder, even though you never trained in pool. Oh well, if Philonune's skill with a spear is any good, maybe it'll also work with you and a pool stick?

You put your eyes on your target, and with a swift strike the ball moves forward! Somehow it clashes with several balls, and those several balls clash with even more balls, and well… you got 6 balls in for your team! 2,3,5,6,7 and the 8! Everyone in the room immediately gets up from their seats and start talking all at once.

“HE FUCKING CHEATED! JUST LIKE HIS DUMBASS FATHER ALWAYS DID!” Helmaer stands up and aggressively points at your face.
“T-that shot is m-mathematically impossible! And yet it happened!” Conti's just blown away.
“He didn’t use his partner, did he?” Osgood whispers to Bradford.
“I didn’t see anything, honestly. That was legit.” Bradford says back in shock.
“Partner…?” Mr. Hogg murmurs to himself, as he overhears your friends rambling.

“C-calm down!” Craig tries to calm down Helmaer from a distance, who by now is grabbing you by the front of your shirt. You put your hands up, trying to make him ease up. Matilda rushes in and grabs Helmaer by his right arm.
“Let. Him. Go.” Matilda looks absolutely horrific as she threatens the sore loser.
“Leave the kid alone!” The officer grabs Helmaer by the back trying to restrain him. But Helmaer pushes him away with his elbow, glaring daggers at Matilda, anger overcoming intimidation.
“Shut it, you stupid cheater whore!” Helmaer yells in Matilda’s face, a few drops of spit flying on her.
“Say that again, and I’m putting you through that table.” Matilda gets face to face with Helmaer, unmoved.
“Oh yeah, bitch? Try it!” Helmaer retorts.
“Woooo! Fight!” Sewel is enjoying it, clapping his hands.
“You two calm down!” Mr. Hogg stands up to interfere…
“Yeah, Martin – behave! They are still my students!” Mr. Conti says, indignant, all previous desire to settle your score immediately gone. You regain a little bit more respect for your teacher, for putting aside his grudge to care about you.

You pull yourself together and push Helmaer away! Who the fuck does he think he is? Thanks to the push, Mr. Conti grabs Helmaer by the back, followed by Mr. Jackson and Craig.

After a few minutes, Helmaer calmed down and profusely apologized for his behavior with you and Matilda. But since your shot was deemed impossible, and Helmaer grabbing you pushed you on the table moving the balls from their position, the game had to be restarted! Also, this probably is the last time Helmaer is going to be here… Even though the rest of the guys assured you Helmaer is way too pathetic to even throw a punch, so they were never really that worried… What a 'useful' bunch, huh?

Anyway, now you’re first… Craig breaks once again and its game on! You tried to not go for something convoluted and got a good shot, you have ball 7 now for your team…

“Sorry kids, I didn’t think it was going to get like this.” Craig apologizes yet again after you delivered your shot.
“It’s fine, really.” You reply calmly. Not really, but now you’re fine…
“Why didn’t you just kick him out?” Matilda grumbles, still not entirely relaxed.
“…If you really want me to kick him out, I will.” Craig says, still feeling bad about the whole affair.

(By the way, your incredible shot awed everyone! So you earned 2 Handsomeness points!)

Do you kick the asshole out?

“He’ll pay for the drinks.” You tell Craig, who smiles as a big weight on his shoulder just disappeared.
“Yeah, getting the money out of him won’t be easy, but we have our tricks.” Craig keeps smiling.
“…It’s your call.” Mathilda basically shrugs the issue away.
“If he makes you that uncomfortable I will kick him, don’t worry about it.”
“It’s fine…” Mathilda doesn’t want to make any more trouble.
“I want my guests to have fun and that includes you.” Craig tells your pool partner.
“You seem like a nice enough fellow.” Matilda searches out something from her pocket. “Here is my card.”
“Uh…?”
“If you need anything done, I’ll do it.” Matilda points to herself with conviction.
“Ehm… Alright, but I don’t know what I can hire you for.” Craig remains confused.
“For anything really, always on time and great service. Trust me on this, Craig." You shill the fuck out of Matilda!
“I’ll keep it in mind…” Craig laughs with awkwardness.
“Sorry kids, again…” Helmaer gets near the three of you, Mathilda moves away from him a little.
“You’ll have to pay for the drinks if you really want to apologize.” Craig tells him immediately.
“Yes! Of course! It’s the least I can do.” Helmaer bows profusely. He probably will remain apologetic for the rest of the evening.

And the game continued! A little awkward at first, but eventually everyone started to relax like it was supposed to be from the start! It’s Sewel’s turn.
“Watch and learn.” He tells everyone; which would have had more of an effect if it wasn’t for both of your previous shots. He nails the 8 ball easily! He grins to the crowd. Bradford actually booed.

“I told you we’re doomed!” Osgood says as he keeps pointing at the table as if asking for a refund.
“We got a second chance! Now I’m used to the cue! Believe me.” Bradford says, his hands in a begging gesture.
“Too bad it’s my turn, isn't it?” Osgood says sarcastically. He stands up and awkwardly makes a shot, even with his broken arm! He nails the 2! “Not bad…” He chuckles.
“WOOO! We’re not last!” Bradford celebrates like he won the Olympics.

“Show restraint, okay? We both already made fools of ourselves.” Conti tells Helmaer, who still looks uncomfortable after what he did.
“Yeah…” He stands up ready to shoot! And he does, taking the 5 with him! “I still got it.” He smirks after a sigh of relief.

“Well, it’s my turn, wish me luck.” Mr. Hogg stands up and doesn’t look that confident.
“We can’t do any worse.” Jackson tries to calm his partner with a casual shrug, honed from years on the force. Mr. Hogg shoots and doesn’t bang anything in.
“Shame.” He says with a smile. You can tell Officer Jackson really wants to win, as he doesn’t take the miss lightly, fist clenching and eyes closing in a 'come the fuck on' emotion.

“Time to take back the lead.” Matilda stands up and stretches, ready to shoot.
“We just need to advance to the next round; you don’t need to do anything extreme.” You tell her this despite you being the one who tried to impress everyone before, so who are you to tell her what to do?
Matilda does her shot and nails… the 1. A point is a point but… “Tch…” Matilda doesn’t seem pleased.

“So, it’s finally my turn!” Craig stands up! He’s the final man to take a shot, even though some of them didn’t count.
“Bring on the pain.” Sewel says like…
“This talk reminds me of the good old days.” Craig starts laughing as he casually shoots the blank and gets the 6, the highest number on the table that can be obtained! “Boom! That is just too sweet!”

And the game continues! Who will get to the next round? Who is going to taste defeat? We will know… Right now!

There is no mathematical possibility that Mr. Hogg , Mr. Jackson, Helmaer and Mr. Conti can get to the next round! Craig and Sewel took the most points already, so it’s only you and Matilda vs. Osgood and Bradford; somehow they banged enough points that if they throw in the last ball they tie up the series with you! Since you started (thanks to the Helmaer incident) you’re at a disadvantage.

“I can’t believe we got into this mess.” Matilda blames herself; after all, she only scored the worst balls.
“I told you we can win this!” Bradford hypes up Osgood, who is going to shoot after you, if you fail this shot.
“It’s not over yet. Be quiet.” Matilda cuts Bradford off, leaving him shocked.
“…” You stare at the ball, focused… It’s a tricky shot! But if you do it, you can have all the fame and glory for yourself! This whole time, Philonune has been whispering you pointers about how to handle long pointy sticks using his expertise in spears, along with words of encouragement and motivation. Now, while he's back to being dead silent, his eyes are super wide in anticipation.
“If he scores, I’m blaming you, Bradford.” Osgood says, deadpan.
“T-The fuck did I do?” Bradford turns back to Osgood, comically horrified.

You only need to get this one shot…

What do you do?

>Place the perfect shot! You did it once, you can do it again! (Hard Roll)

“Oh god, he’s going to do it.” Bradford moans.
“If he makes it I'm blaming you.” Osgood says.
“Shh! Let Johnny concentrate.” Matilda snaps, wanting to preserve her grandfather’s honor.

It’s over in an instant. One deafening clack or wood on plastic that sends the ball flying! Silence overtakes the group for what feels like minutes, Osgood is the first to break the silence.

“FUCK!” He yells.
“Yes!” Matilda grins.

“The game ain’t over yet, lass.” Sewel arose, his countenance not unlike that of a mafia don. Or at least that’s what he was going for.
“Yeah, now we get really serious.” Craig smirked. Matilda cocked her head in confusion. “You two know how to play ‘8-ball’?”
“No…” You reply, even though you were doing well, your knowledge about the game was limited at best.
“It’s simple, the objective is to sink the 8 ball into one of the pockets you decide beforehand, but before you can even attempt to throw the 8 ball in you need to sink every ball designated for your team. You’ll get the ones from 1 to 7, and us from the 9 to the 15.” Craig raises a finger. “You cannot use the 8 ball to pocket anything or you lose.”

“Why don’t we play with the old rules?” Matilda scowls.
“’Cause this is serious, lady! Didn’t you hear Craig?” Sewel sneers. “Well, it’s not like you two stand a chance… Kid, this ain’t poker, this is my turf.” Sewel flashes that same cocky grin as always.
“Hope you’re getting used to losing to me, then.” You reply.
“Let’s get everything rolling then. Since you are the rookies, you will start. Remember if you score, you keep playing.” Craig explains.

“Let’s crush them.” Matilda is hyped! But you get the feeling that she may now be a liability…

While Craig prepared the table and others came back with the drinks, someone asked the group who is going to win… Almost everyone but Officer Jackson and Bradford voted against you. Ouch.

“Why did you vote for them?” Osgood asks.
“If they win, we lost to the best team!” Bradford shrugs.
“We lost to both of them, dumbass.” Osgood snaps. Bradford’s eyes go wide in realization.

“I’ll break again.” Craig makes the shot. “Now, who shall start now? Remember that it’s only the ones from 1 to 7 you need to take down.”

This is a team game, but Matilda is not really pulling her weight – although, she’s glaring at you with a fire in her eyes you've never seen before. It seems she wants to prove everyone wrong! Which one of you shall begin the final duel?

>Believe in Matilda! Has she ever disappointed you?

Matilda has never disappointed, has she? If you don’t believe her now, when there isn’t anything at stake, when? You hand her the cue stick.
“You start.” You also nod, fueling her determination.
“Understood.” Matilda grabs it as her eyes continue to flare up with a fierce intensity.

You only need to take the numbers from the 1 to the 7 to attempt to throw the 8 ball, hopefully Matilda shows up! Your hyped classmate takes position for an easy shot and does it splendidly! Ball one is yours! Matilda seems pleased.

“Who's wrong now, huh?” Bradford snarks at Osgood.
“Wanna bet?” Osgood grins at Bradford, who in response searches something in his pocket.
“10 Gor$ Johnny and Matilda win.” Bradford shows the money to Osgood.
“You're on.” Osgood takes money out of his pocket too. Maybe you should pay attention to the game instead.

“So do I keep going?” Matilda asks. “Or should I hand it to Johnny?”
“Do as you want, we’re still playing for fun.” Craig basically shrugs. He's doing that a lot.
“In that case…” Matilda turns and extends her hand with the cue to you.
“Can’t keep up with the pressure, lass?” Sewel remarks, playing with his cigar in one hand.
“He trusted me, I’ll trust him now.” Matilda responds dryly but with confidence in you.

You take the cue from her. You can feel her undying desire to win… makes you wonder what kind of relationship she has with her grandpa… Well, time to clear your mind and make the next shot count!

Because the game will take forever if we roll for every shot, instead we will roll for this one to see your overall performance… Please select what tier of performance Johnny will aspire to! The higher the tier, the better the performance, but the rolls are going to be harder! Failing means Johnny will make a fool of himself…
So let’s roll!

>Roll for an adequate performance. You are not going to win, but you are not going to embarrass yourself either. (Normal Roll).
>Roll for a good performance, there is a slim chance of winning! But a chance is still a chance! (Hard Roll).

Well you can’t half-ass it nor you can play risky at this point! Matilda wants to defend her family’s honor, so you will have to do your best!

You strike the ball with godly precision and hit the mark! You got 2 balls now in the bag, no one for sure expected this! You hand the cue to Matilda, she trusted you because you trusted her, time to give the trust back… or away, it’s confusing! Point is it’s Matilda’s turn.

“I’m feelin' the money, boy!” Bradford snaps his fingers as he does a little dance, his fat moving everywhere.
“Sit down, man. You’re disgusting!” Osgood looks away, cringing. You did too, but anyway, the game continues!

Matilda goes for a shot and… blunders it! Well, you’re 2 up so it shouldn’t be that bad.

“I failed.” Matilda tells you as she hands you the team cue. She looks down sullenly.
“Don’t worry about it. We're still doing this." You try to raise her spirits, and it seems to work a little.

“Heh, I was getting worried for a second; it was all just a stroke of luck then!” Sewel remarks with sarcasm, laughing.
“Mhm, we still shouldn’t underestimate them.” Craig tells Sewel, who shushes him with his hand.
“Get a grip, I was just joking.” Sewel doesn’t seem too pleased with Craig’s comment, who shrugs back. Lots of shrugs today.

Eventually the game continued! Craig and Sewel confidently tried to do the same as the two of you, tagging in and our after every shot too, but unlike the two of you, they aren’t really used to going in and out so much. This caused them to blunde some easy shots along the way. This, plus your stellar performance and Matilda pulling her weight, made you two get in a stable position! That means you somehow disposed of every ball on your side; there are two left for the others to even attempt to go for the 8-ball. You can tell Sewel is losing his cool.

“Maybe Helmaer was onto something...” Sewel remarks as you take the cue in what possibly can be the last shot of the evening.
“Good luck, kid.” Craig encourages you, patting you on the back.
“Tch… Don’t say that, he’s the enemy now, shorty.” Sewel is losing his composure even more now, looking really irritated.
“Put them in their place, Johnny.” Matilda encourages you with a nod; she’s strangely reliable as a team partner, and you're thankful for that.

“One last shot, Johnny. Just remember the thrusting techniques I taught you; this isn't an ordinary polearm but the methods should still be the same.” Philonune is the final one to encourage you with one last reminder, even though he didn't teach you much during this game. "This sport is so much more thrilling than I expected! It feels like the battlefield all over again, with no ally to turn to in the struggle, except the only one you have! This is excellent training for when the true battle begins, Johnny! I'm so proud of you…!" Hearing Philonune's genuine support of you is the last thing to solidify your drive…

You prepare to take the final shot, with your eyes set on the 8 ball… You have done remarkably well, so missing this shot is unlikely. With your concentration at max, you shoot the final ball and pocket the 8 ball for your team! Not exactly a crushing victory, but convincing enough!

“Ngh… Beginner’s luck.” Sewel is still salty.
“Haha! I can’t believe we lost!” Craig roars with laughter, taking the defeat very well.
“So what do we win?” Matilda questions aloud, eyes narrowed in skepticism, all business again.
“Sorry, we were playing for fun.” Craig replies, grinning in spite of himself.
“But how will I prove our victory to my grandfather?” Matilda extends her hand waiting for a price to be paid.
“Here… Have this.” Sewel puts a beer in her hand. “He’ll probably like it.” Sewel jokes, crass as ever.
“…This will do nicely.” Matilda keeps it like it’s the best thing ever, her eyes lit up.

Another victory under your belt! You’re getting used to things like this around these parts… It’s somewhat late, maybe it’s time you get back home.

>Just go to your apartment to rest, tomorrow you have a long day ahead of you!

It’s getting late, but you live upstairs and you aren’t feeling tired, so why not spend a little more time? Maybe you could talk to your guardian, you barely know him anyway.

“Alright, it’s time for me to leave. Whoever needs a lift, I can help.” Osgood says as he checks his phone’s watch.

And so, most of the group left with Osgood! Officer Jackson thanked you for inviting him here before leaving. Also Matilda gave you a thumb up, showing you how the camaraderie between the two of you has grown. The only people left in here are you, your guardian, and Craig.

“Not leaving yet, Johnny?” Mr. Hogg asks you, as he just notices you are still here.
“No, I was thinking the two of us could have a chat.”
“Mhm, I was going to stay a little bit longer anyway. Craig and I need to talk about so many topics together.” He gently laughs.
“In that case, I don’t mind leaving you two alone.” You try to be respectful to the guy.
“No, don’t worry. I wanted to talk to you too for a long time, and, well – work hasn’t been kind to me lately, with the curfew and all.” He replies, taking a sip from his coffee mug.
“You don’t know this, kid – but this guy here is a big shot.” Craig chimes in, passing you a soda.
“Haha, that’s an exaggeration.” The high praise doesn’t sit well with Mr. Hogg, laughing sheepishly. “Anyway, how is school treating you?”
“One of the best in school, I’m 12th overall.” You say proudly.
“Nice!” Craig seems happy for you.
“Good, you have done well for yourself. I don’t think I have anything to worry about on that front.” Mr. Hogg seems pleased.
“Nor in any other one, this kid has been a top lad here. Not even one problem!” Craig backs you up. “There was this hobo incident, but he took care of it – so double thumbs up!”
“Hobo incident…?"
“Nah, it was nothing! It’s more like this kid is too kind for his own good.”
“I don’t follow…” Mr. Hogg continues to be confused, now scratching the back of his head.

Well, you have to keep the conversation going, right? Is there anything you want to ask? Remember time isn’t infinite! You're limited in what you can ask.

>Ask Mr. Hogg how he met your dad. Someone nice as Mr. Hogg being friends with someone like your dad is almost unthinkable! Almost, because you've faced even more unthinkable shit lately.
>Ask Craig how the fuck he met such a weird group of people. There's a magnetism that Craig must have, to be able to keep all these people together for so long. Maybe it's the location, or him being a good host? Who knows?
>Ask Mr. Hogg what happened to your allowance the last 2 weeks.
>Write In.

Now more than ever you left wondering why he and your father are friends, let’s ask him about that.

“How I met Stan…? Mmm, I highly doubt the schools in here talk about that incident.”
“Incident?”
“The Diet Shutdown.” He replies, leaving you somewhat confused – you think Uccelli mentioned it once in her class, but you know… it’s her class, it’s hard to pay attention – now it’s even harder because of you-know-what.
“I’m pretty sure that’s talked about in schools, if the news are mentioning it freely these days.” Craig says, taking another sip of his drink.
“Gordon Jr.'s really trying to prove he’s not like his father, huh?” Mr. Hogg for a second loses his relaxed demeanor. “Anyway, to the point: During those times, everything was different than now, your generation is basically escaping the leftovers of a true dictatorship – not trying to diminish what's going on now, but it truly is different.”
“I don’t think the kid cares much about context.” Craig quips, as this is slowly turning into a history lesson.
“It’s important, and I really don't mind." You nod in affirmation. You don't really know much about your dad, honestly, except your mom used to love him for some reason, while you didn't. For obvious reasons.

"Glad you care so much about ancient history." Hogg smiles in embarrassment, but continues. "After decades of the tyrannical rule of Gordon Sr., the people beneath him were getting a little tired. The economic growth tanked, the abuse of power was rampant, and our coin was worthless outside our borders. The big businessmen in the country weren’t pleased, and for the first time in decades, congress reunited to secretly talk about changes to the current policies at the time. One of the rare times when both the rich and the poor agreed on the same thing, and the higher-ups actually listened to the people.” Hogg explains, a hard, almost sunken look in his eyes as he stares out the window.
“I was serving as more or less the assistant to one of the congressmen, so I was involved in a lot of backroom discussion, and I regret none of that. You can imagine Gordon Sr., once he found out about these meetings from one of his moles, didn’t think too kind of this… And he had the entire military at his full beck and call.” He grimaces, the memories coming back.
“Damn…” You can't help but look down yourself, knowing enough to know there this is going…

“The persecution started a few days later. I was a mere college student at the time, but I was on their hit list due to my position. You dad was a fellow classmate in one of my courses, and we barely knew each other – but I needed to get the hell out of the country as soon as possible. It was the middle of summer too, and another friend of mine knew your father better than I did. Luckily, your father was working as truckman during the summer… Thanks to him and my friend, I was able to escape the country hidden in the back, and got through multiple checkpoints without any issue. The incident was the major catalyst for the coup d'etat, where Gordon Jr. took power. But that's a story for another day.” Hogg starts looking a lot more relieved.
“That’s great and all, but wouldn’t the story have ended when you said you two went to the same college?” Craig laughs a little to lighten the mood, but there's a funny look in his eyes…
“I want Johnny to know that there is a better side to his father. I’m indebted to him for life.” Hogg says, looking at you for a few moments. He snaps out of it, then checks the clock. "Look at the time! We'll have to leave the coffee for next time, Craig.”
“Doesn’t matter! It was a nice story! Hell – I never knew Ando had a soft side.”

Holy shit, that’s not really what you expected to hear at all! You wonder if he really did save Hogg from the bottom of his heart, or had any ulterior motives that he never got around to pulling off. It’s late, maybe it’s time for you to go to sleep…

What do you have planned for tomorrow? You will only be able to do one!

>Go to the Museum with Nariko! There might be a reason why she feels strongly about the place, plus you've never been there!
>Go on a date with your girlfriend! Maybe more could come out of this, if you're lucky? :^)
>Be a slob and take your Sunday off! Practice with Philonune's powers whenever you get bored!

I can't remember, but I think we might have already promised Nariko this in a previous thread?

After saying good bye to Mr. Hogg and Craig, you leave towards your apartment, thinking about your dad. You turn on the lights and see both Nariko and Amelia asleep on the couch – they were probably waiting for you, should you move them? Or wake them up? That doesn’t look comfortable at all!
You ended waking up Amelia and telling her to sleep on the bed, and she follows your order like some type of zombie as she wakes up Nariko in turn. The both of them slump their way to their room. That was weird, so you ate a sandwich before going to sleep. It was alright.

Wait, was Amelia supposed to sleep here today? Too late to make sure of that, but it should be fine, you hope. Being on the wrong side of Amelia's dad is one of the last places you'd ever want to be!

It’s a bright morning and… Nariko is sitting next to you on your bed, calmly.

“What?” You slur out, because you're still half asleep.
“I told you not to bother him!” Amelia yells at Nariko from the door. What time is it? Why is Amelia awake too?
“He promised!” Nariko is acting childish.
“I thought we made progress yesterday! You’re acting all weird again!” Amelia looks annoyed, both eyebrows knitted.
“S-sorry…” Nariko leaves the room. Amelia whispers something to Nariko, to which she reacts worried as she trots away. You wonder what’s going on with what little lucidity you're still getting.

“So what’s going on?” You ask as you finally put your glasses on and pulls yourself awake and alert.
“She wants to go to the museum! I can’t go with you though, I have work…” Amelia's face starts to look gloomier, but there is something off about it, like she’s lying. Wait, she is lying! You try not to tip her off about this.
“It’s okay, I'll get you a souvenir.” Does the museum have a gift shop for those?
“Hooray! Also breakfast is ready! We already ate, so… enjoy it!” Amelia leaves your room a bit too quickly.
“…?” There is something really off today, but you can't quite put your finger on it.

After eating a healthy meal and throwing on your casual clothes, it’s time to leave to the museum – it’s still morning, so it doesn’t feel right to you going there so early.
“What’s the holdup?” You’re getting impatient; they left you eating alone and made you wait 20 minutes! You would almost feel lonely if Philonune wasn't also there with you, quietly observing the nearby area.

“C’mon Nariko!” Amelia calls for your hobo to the scene! Nariko appears in a cute summer dress, looking lovely… except for her usual beanie clashing horribly with the rest of her. “So what do you have to say?” Amelia puffs up with a smug smile on her face.
“Please don’t say anything.” Nariko looks extremely embarrassed. You have the feeling there is some type of misunderstanding here…

Sadly the bad feeling is something you will have to wait for until next thread. Thanks for playing!

Thanks everyone for playing, hope you guys enjoy it even though nothing much happened.

Sadly no cool drawing this week, because I didn’t have the time. Sorry.

I have no idea when we will return. But from March on the schedule should stabilize to normal, so the thread drought will end there if there is one.
