The battlefield is clearing of smoke, but that doesn’t mean your pirate bot is suddenly free to move. The two of your bots in this state; it’d be way too risky for you to try any offense right now- especially when you have an obvious range disadvantage. There’s no real choice here.

Hello, bot battlers, and welcome back to Magical Girl For Hire Quest! We are currently playing as Lorelei Vedder, effervescent magical girl extraordinaire, who's currently playing the role of elite minion (SHATTERLIGHT, THE BURNING or something you still need to work that out) for a rather rich man in a world full of competitive minature robot battling. You’ve already managed to prove yourself by stealing a rare bot part from a dinky, yet hated, competitor...albeit with some help alongside a nice dose of trouble. Your would-be assistant, Prima, is currently undergoing repairs and alterations. In the meantime, you've taken to buying another ‘Minibot’ for cover, and in the process ran into someone who has some ties with the store you robbed last night. And now you’re fighting his obviously infatuated friend in a little private practice match.

Ain’t luck wonderful?

“Keep moving!” you yell, and the good captain can only get out a muffled ‘roight!’ as he tries to keep from getting peppered with blasts from the walking turret yet again.

Fortunately, although the big guy isn't exactly light on his feet, his body, combined with his movements, are good enough to at least keep the worst of the volley off of him- a couple of glancing blows, but nothing major hits him as he tries to keep his most vitals areas protected through the volley.

“C’mon!” Tooru complains. “Moxer, you GOT this! Full pressure volley!” Huh. So much for training, it seems- he’s acting like this is the real thing, now.

In response, Moxer plants his feet, his gun heats up, and you can hear the barrel begin to spin loudly- but Jago’s almost within melee range, thanks to how he’s been moving- with the positions that Moxer and Jago are in, Moxer is literally in a corner...although it doesn’t seem like Tooru realizes that.

“Grab ‘im!” You yell over the din of the spin up. “Don’t let him rev up!” He’s already moving before you can even finish your sentence.

“On it!” His heavy, thudding stomps echo as he chases down the bot fearlessly, and there's just enough time for a shout of ‘Moxer, MOVE!’ before a massive hand clamps down on the handle of the gun barrel. The thing stops in its tracks, and Jago flexes (as much as a bot can flex, anyway) his hand, and you hear a wicked tearing and warping of metal as the gun arm compresses and deforms under the captain’s immense pressure.

Immediately Moxer’s stance buckles harshly, and the bot’s forced to its knees practically, its arm twisted and broken. Honestly, pretty good so far! Now you just need to-

“OKAY, OKAY, I QUIT!” Huh? Oh right. You look up from the battle to see Tooru looking flabbergasted and entirely embarrassed. “Geez, I thought this was your first battle!”

You just give him a casual shrug, playing it off. “Oh, hey, don't worry about it. Call it beginner's luck?”

He blinks, and then he smiles lightly again. “O-oh! Right, doy. It was pretty clear, I suppose. But, that’s just another lesson! Never take your opponent lightly! i should have been serious from the word go.” He looks down at his mangled bot at that, and has the good grace to give an embarrassed blush. “Sorry about that, bud.”

Moxer doesn’t respond, but merely nods quietly, looking between Jago- who’s just got his arms folded like he’s posing in the wind- and you. Really, though, you like getting looked at, but there’s some looks you could do without…

“Nonetheless! With this battle over with, I uh...I’m gonna need to get Moxer repaired. Like, quick. There’s a tournament going on soon, and me and him need to be in top form!” Ooh, that’s neat. “So, uh...let’s get goin, huh, bud? Off to Kyo’s Gramps!”

Moxer simply nods, and climbs out the pit with his remaining good arm. Jago simply uses his hook attachment like a grapple to haul himself up and out, nearing your side. “Well, now, that were a roight good dust up! Yer not a bad commadah!”

“Aw, you’re too kind!” Actually, no, you’d love to hear more…

“Actually, I bet Kyo would love to hear how well you did, if you got the time!” Tooru says cheerfully. Seems like he’s already over the loss. “He’s new, too, and I bet once he hears how well you managed to fare against me, he’d want to take you on one day! Wanna come with? His dad’s a pretty good cook, too...”

“Oh, naw, I’m gonna have to pass.” You decide. “I’ve gotta be somewhere a bit later, really!”

“Awww…” he seems kind of disappointed, but his smile belies his true thoughts. “Well, another day, perhaps!” He says it all dramatic, like he’s in a play or a drama something. Really, most of what this kid does seems like he's trying to be larger than life. You kinda like those sorts, admittedly…

Ah, but that does remind you. “You DID say something about a tournament though, right?”

And that brightens him up entirely. “Oh, yeah! I'm guessing you haven't heard? It’s the first stop of this year’s M-9 Battle Grand Prix! The Red Hot Rumble tournament at the Maji Arena tomorrow actually got picked! There’s gonna be a ton of awesome battlers there- even be some cool exhibition fights by a lot of famous battlers and their bots! Even supposed to be some new bot parts debuting!” M-9 Battle Grand Prix? Maji Arena? New Parts? Hmmmm… “Kyo and me are gonna be competing for sure!”

“Really?” You can't help but ask. “I thought he was new to this, too!”

He nods. “Yeah, but Kyo’s got a real talent! I dunno if he’d win, but I bet he and I could do well enough to get some points to qualify for the second round! That’d be pretty big already!” Interesting…

“Well, I gotta get goin’! Maybe I’ll see you at the tournament! Make sure to cheer for me!” He runs off, waving, as his Minibot simply nods in farewell and quickly follows, holding his damaged arm.

“Well, not bad fer our first go,” Jago says primly. He's got several scorch marks, but he seems none the worse for wear. Still, he should probably get some work done... “Wha’re we off ta? I’ve a lot to learn about you, sheila.”

That’s a good question. Where to go next…

Hmm, tournament you say. Maybe we can get some extra cash out of it.
>>
>>2341892
Most likely our boss want us to either be part of the tournament or steal the piece that is going to be priezed.

If we keep our current hidden identity we can participate in the tournament get to know the skill set of the minibot competitors and if we fail to win it we can always go back to our masked figure and steal it from the winner.

A extremely convoluted plan just like in most animes.

Yeah, no, you need some new threads. This is going to get a little bit too suspicious before very long, especially if you have to pull another job in our scene. Best to get yourself a change of clothes as soon as possible- especially now that you’ve got some folks to worry about knowing what you look like. Mostly.

Fortunately, the shopping around here for clothes is far more expansive than even those for Minibots. You’ve basically got your pick of designs and styles to choose from! Everything from simple sun dresses and hats, to stylish and sleek multipiece suits (why does it seem like casual latex is a thing here? Or is it even latex…) to bigger clothes with belts galore, to...wow, stuff that you have to admit is hot, but you’re not entirely certain should be on a public showroom floor.

Reduces the APPEAL if anyone can just stare at it all day, after all.

Either way, the choice is yours…

>Something sleek and cool and form-fitting.

No, yeah, you'll just go with something your usual speed. Something cute and cheerful, something playful. Something that doesn't really arouse too much suspicion, but makes people just smile when they see you. All the better to stab them in the back when necessary or get something done under their noses. What you eventually find that you decide suits you well enough is a cheerful little sunflower-colored flower tank top and a nice skirt- something and just above your knees, along with some nice, high stockings. Up to over the knee, even; that skirt that you have leaves just a little bit of oh-so-enticing gap.

Alright, that's not bad! As you step out of the store, your bot following you, he gives you something that could be called a side-eye. “Sheila, you plannin’ a date or what?”

You just scoff. “Sometimes a girl likes to look pretty and cute!” Before he can respond to that though, you get a beeping on your smartwatch. A couple of button presses reveals a small screen that shows that you have an unread message.

‘Time determined. Return in two (2) hours for briefing.’

Hm. Well, nuts. At least you still have a bit of time to yourself...and Jago.

You figure that the gyms won't take that long, but you're unsure how long Jago's repairs will take. The Maji Arena shouldn't be too long, after you check your smartwatch map- it's about a few minutes away if you catch a cab or the bus. “Meh. Well, c’mon,” you say, glancing to your bot. He looks scruffy and pockmarked, and by all accounts even though he seems perfect functional, he's also a bit of an eyesore to look at. Can't have that. “You need a tune up and...probably some buffing out or something.”

“Oh, aye,” he agrees easily. “Tha bloke got in a good number of shots, even if ‘e didn't win. Guess I look a bit of a sight now, yeah?”

“Yeah.” Hopefully it shouldn't take you all that long...

Fortunately, you find a pretty decent repair store, and most of what needs to be done is all superficial. He's got a few dents that takes some time banging out, and a couple of marks that can't quite come all the way out, but after about an hour or so, he looks pretty good. “Not too shabby,” he comments after you both walk out. “Now, where’re we goin’?”

“Back to base,” you say to his questioning look as you head back to the tower.

He gives a strange look at his new surroundings as you enter King’s tower, but he doesn't say anything specific. A small wordless expression of wonder does come from him, however, and you find it kind of adorable considering his grizzled look. “Well now...ain’t this a soight…” Oh, guess he’s got some words after all.

As usual, you're met with a bit of a welcoming party. This time they seem to be more at least some sort of bodyguards, judging from the suits and the dark sunglasses. They take one look at the minibot that you bought, and immediately move forward. “We’ll need to take him aside from now while you talk with the boss.”

What? Well...whatever. Just as long as he's fine with it.

“Have you heard of the M-9 Battle Grand Prix?” is the first thing Mr. King says as you walk into his office. His back is turned, looking out of his window at a point in the distance. “It’s the biggest tournament in the nation, a massing of the best battlers from across the land, each seeking to test out their skills and prove themselves superior in the arena. It is this same competition that I first made my name known- and it is this same competition that will soon hold one of the experimental parts- to show off, like a fancy toy.”

Can’t say you’re surprised at that. Although, really not sure he’s any better on the ‘toy’ front…

“The founders of the tournament, Haku International, are the creators. There’s a new pair of legs they’re calling Arhu Legs.” You can see him frown, and his posture hunch a bit. “The range of motion and speed is claimed to be beyond any modern Minibot part currently on the market. the tests that they shown, as much as it pains me to admit, have proven superior to my own research efforts. Which means that they are likely either falsifying the data... or have access to something that I don't have access to. Don’t and SHOULD.”

He turns to you, his eyes steely and flinty... But they widen a little bit upon seeing your new outfit. and he rears back slightly. “I...intend you to retrieve the legs. If you’re capable…” he opens his mouth as though he wants to say something, but then he just shakes his head. “Go. Your task is to get them before the presentation tomorrow. I don’t care how, so long as you’re not noticed nor traced to me.”

“Got it!” Sounds easy enough...

There’s gonna be a ton of awesome battlers there- even be some cool exhibition fights by a lot of famous battlers and their bots! Even supposed to be some new bot parts debuting!”

“A couple. Any kind of information on how the schedule’s looking tomorrow?” is the first thing you think of. If you only had until they decided to show it off, then you have to move faster depending on when that was.

“It will, apparently, be right before the finals, as an exhibition,” he answers primly. “They’re probably going to make a big to-do about it, a lot of pomp and circumstance before showing all of 10 seconds of its capabilities.”

Huh. Kinda seems like a waste to you. Although if the expression he's making is any indication, he thinks similarly. “Okaay...what about the guards? What am I expecting on that front?”

He snorts, side-eyeing you strangely. “If the past years have been any indication, there's going to be a combination of manned security as well as Minibot guards on regular patrol. They tend to lean more towards Balanced and Shooter-class bots from what I recall; last year there were a number of Ceberis bots standing guard. Big things- intimidating looking, but mostly close range barring their bark shot. A few Jiji snipers, too- lightly armored, kind of look like ballerinas, really…” His eyes drift off briefly before snapping to attention again. “At any rate, be cautious.”

Okay, makes sense. Snipers too, though? Hm. “Got it. Any clue where they’ll be in the arena?”

He shakes his head. “There’s a number of places they could be, sadly. There’s a sealed off VIP area upstairs, and an entire underground floor that they’ll most likely be in. I couldn't tell you the exact room or their movements, obviously.”

All right, that's understandable. “Alright, then, so what do they look like?”

“The legs?” he confirms. “They’re a gaudy silver and gold combination, very smooth. Almost organic-looking, really, complete with wire veins- presumably for style.” He sighs. “I wouldn’t have made such a garish design decision, myself…”

“Then that should be it- aside from my little equipment request,” you say breezily.

He lets out a low hum of curiosity, but nods. “I’ve acquired a number of tools for you- flares, as you asked, thermal paste, a tazer, cutting torch...some other odds and ends that the engineers insisted on. You’ll find it in the Repair Bay. I still HIGHLY suggest you don’t lose any of them,” he says ominously.

Well, duh. “Not to worry, sir! I'll take the utmost care and retrieve the part without fail!” Hey, you may not be in costume, but that doesn't mean you can't still act the part!

“I truly hope so,” he says wryly. “Now, go.”

As you leave, the large doors closing behind you, you allow yourself a single snort of derision.

Guys like him were always so up themselves. At least you’re honest with who you are.

...for all the fat lot of good it ever did.

>>
>>2343233
Thanks for the run. Guess we will need to use both of our bots on this little show.
>>
>>2343245
i think that would be best. Even more so since we have a support bot with us. We can use her to analize the structures and look for padrons on the security as we walk around
>>
>>2343245
Hope for the best, plan for the worst. Pure stealth would make things easier in the long run, but will be rather difficult to pull off. Lori's social skills are her strong point, which should help us get through the lower levels of security at least.
>>
>>2343263
Good point, we can try to get in as press or something. Or a groupie.
>>
>>2343233
Thanks for running!
>>2343275
>>2343263
Not so sure about this. Groupies are alowed to the VIP rooms, but not to the underground area. Maybe we should get a mechanic getup instead; that way we can enter the underground area without anyone raising an eye.
>>
>>2343321
>Groupies are alowed to the VIP rooms, but not to the underground area.
You just have to play hard to get, tease them enough and they will be glad to get you into a restricted area for some tail. Just gotta find the right mark.
>>
>some other odds and ends that the engineers insisted on.

i'm really curious to see what these are.
>>
I think the part is underground, but the information as to where specifically will be in the VIP rooms.
I suggest we kidnap a VIP, get information from them with "Fact or Fiction?" like passwords and security procedures, as well as swipe any keycards from them, then use Copycat to assume their identity and walk right in to the information, then the parts.
>>
>>2343744
Also, does copycat also work on wigs and masks if we wear any?
>>
So far i come up with three basic plans for our little job

> 1. Become a Participant in the Tournament; gets us free walk in the back stage, but we have limits time to snoop around since our time to find the part would be in between the matches and how long each match would last.

> 2 Go invited by someone; either use our contact with the MC and his group to make us go inside the VIP room. The nerd would most likely try to invite Lori since he's thirsty for her. This however limit us because we are forced to stay around the MC group and doesn't allow us to use prima to hack the place.

>3.Cat Burglar; Go in as the cute little girl and make some social interaction go to the bathroom stalk as prima walks in the middle of the crowd and sneak across the place. Maybe use our astral projection to check the underground facility see if we find the piece. If the piece is underground we can go while the tournament is happening, if it isn't there then it's in the VIP room.
>>
>>2343745
If it doesn't we can always leave the VIP we capture unconcious and butt naked. However if we manage to capture someone we need to make sure he doesn't see Lori civilian identity just her masked villan one.
>>
>>2343839
we could try a combination of 1 and 3. Play nice with the MC, get into the VIP rooms, ¨go to the bathroom¨ make some recoinance, return to the mc, ¨go for some food¨, steal the thing, and return like if nothing had happened.
>>
>>2344041
>return like if nothing had happened.
Oh yeah, we do have further jobs.
>>
>>2344082
We need to colect all of bot Exodia parts. First we get the legs, then we get the other arm (if the arm we stolen from the old man wasn't a piece for bot Exodia then we have two arms to grab), the head and finaly it's torso.
>>
>>2344096
You forgot the head
>>
>>2344294
No i didn't. Read again anon.
>>
Going live in about 30.
>>
>>2344572
Fuck yeah let's do this!!
>>
>>2344041
The problem with one is that we will need to figth and so we won't be able to scan the area for the were abouts of the part. Making less likely for us to bail. I hope we can use Prima scanner or her hacking skill so she can easily acess a security port and find the part for us.

We can enter the place with the MC and not participate and have our bots drone arou d the arena to see if they find anything. Or at least have the captain srrve as a body guard for Prima so she can acess a security port and scan the entire building.
>>
>>2343839
Three sounds like the way to go. If we get caught, we can pretend to be a Participant. This gives us the best access without any strings.

We could also go for one, but deliberately get knocked out early. Then we'd have limited access without the time constraints.
>>
>>2344616
The most important part in my opinion is how are we going to handle the high security alarms and whatever else there is protecting the part. So far we only heard about the bot and the manned security but not about alarm systems laser security and cameras.

And Prima would be better used for that then Crunch. We could also use her to make a scan of the estructure and from her scan determine were the snipers would be posted and the security bots weak points to take then down fast and hopefully silently.
>>
>>2344656
We have 2 further options regarding alarms, etc: we disable them and steal it, or we wait for them the remove it from the secure zone for the presentation and ambush them. Both have their ups and downs.

Prima is definitely the best choice for the infiltration.
>>
>>2343233
As you get down to the Repair Bay, you note that Prima is still out of it, but it seems as though the engineers are still diligently working at her- her arm is looking much more...together. “Hey, here for the goods, I’m guessing?” You nod, and he points towards an empty table with a gym bag laying on it. “All in there. Don’t break any of it, okay?”

When you check inside, you can understand why. Aside from the things that you requested, there’s also a number of small grey pellets. “Smoke pellets!” one of the engineers says when you ask him. “Y’know, for flashy and practical escapes! Or entrances, if you wanna!” Ah. Neat! “We also put a rappel gun in there, a couple camera blocker slides, and a set of infrared goggles you can fit under your helmet!” He fishes them out- a smaller set of thick opaque goggles, just as he said. “I’d have given you the high powered ones, but they’re too bulky. Shame though, they look cooler and make this cool ‘bweeeep’ sound when you turn them on. These just kinda...work. Don’t put ‘em on in daylight.”

Dang. That sucks. But, hey, you’ve got gear now! Now you need to start laying the groundwork for this whole caper...but what to do first?

>Get in with your potential...well, way in. Time to visit Kyo yourself.

Alternatively, we could pretend to be a security guard.
>>
>>2344600
ideally (and if we dont want to raise any kind of alarm) we wont need to fight. The idea is to first do some reconnaissance, hack the security cameras with Prima, get the location of the part(any competent security personell will be supervising it) and return to the MC team. On the second expedition we will turn off the cameras, bypass the security and place the parts into the bag o holding(and prima), so that we can feign ignorance when its discovered that the part went missing.
>Or at least have the captain srrve as a body guard for Prima
Thats a bad idea. If they see the two together, they will know that we are the one that stole the arm.

>>
>>2344757
...no.

it brings way less attention if we are a lost tourist or something.
>>
>>2344724
Yeah i agree with this plan. So first incursion we scan the place and in the second one we go to the tournament with the MC and his group, then we split from then, go to a security room have Prima hack the place and kill the cams and once we get near the part we let her deactivate the alarm and put everything back in the bag of holding.
>>
>>2344770
If possible, we should add a video loop instead of just turning off the cameras, that should be less incospicious than just turning them off.
>>
>>2344778
I think it would depend if we hack from a random security frame or from the main security room. But i do get what you say. Besides it would be way easier to acess a random port then going for the main security room.

Well, first thing’s first- gotta case the place. Hopefully this won’t be too hard- some security is probably still setting up, and at the very least there’ll be some guards likely doing a dry run of things, but if you know anything about event setups, they're usually a mess until the last minute. Probably not a good idea to bring Jago at the moment, either. After a quick check-up, you leave him in the care of the engineers, who have shown him what the training room is- and he seems to have taken to it with aplomb.

Good for him! As for you…

The Maji Arena is a large building- pristine white, and domed in- a veritable coliseum in the modern age. Parked in various places around the arena or a number of moving trucks and carriers, no doubt for the various decorations and whatnot that need to go up by tomorrow morning.

It's relatively easy to simply walk into the lobby. Things aren't exactly closed down, but there’s nothing scheduled for today, and there’s several large flyers and posters about the event tomorrow. You can still see a number of individuals, all in slate white uniforms and hats hustling here and there with post and other things under their arms, setting up the outer areas.

Well, considering the suits, it seems like best thing to do here is to blend in. And how better to blend in…

Ah, perfect. Bathrooms.

It takes a bit of waiting before someone needs to answer nature's call, but it works well enough. Same you couldn't copy a hat- they're kinda cute. The whole getup's a bit baggy for you, but you can deal. At any rate, no cameras should be catching you changing. You're going to have to be careful here, though.

As you walk into the arena’s main floor from the south end, you can see that the protective walls are still incomplete, and there's a number of individuals and similar uniform still working to put a few up on the west end, below a jumbo screen. There's also what seems to be a number of isolated sitting areas right at ringside- for the contestants, you presume, or maybe VIPs.

A pair of workers on the east end are apparently overlooking things, but they don't seem to notice you for now as they discuss something amongst themselves. Across to the north end, seem to be the doors to the inner tunnels for the competitors to go into and come out of.

Above everything is the press box, stretching about halfway across the north end, but it seems to be empty for the moment.

Well, they said that downstairs was probably going to be your best bet, so you need to get down there, if only to see what’s what. You don't want to just waltz in there in full view of everyone, though…

Walking back outside, you are quick to pass a number of stands that have posters for the event tomorrow- from the looks of things they're supposed to be put up right outside the hallway, but...well, no one will mind if they’re missing for a minute, huh?

Fortunately, it doesn't seem like anyone's willing to question you as you walk out with an arm full of poster tube and head down the ramp way.

The lower floor area seems to be a lot less stylish than above-ground; mostly playing walls and very little decoration. There's a few papers stuck there that tell dates of events and other things, but nothing explicit or that would be relevant to you...except a basic floor map, it seems.

Perfect! Now, let’s see where to go first...

Loading Docks are probably where to go first. Won't seem exceptionally out of place there, and you can probably get some decent intel on what's showing up when, at the very least.

The trip down is pretty quiet, fortunately. Not a whole lot of people down here, and the one or two that pass you don't ask any questions.

When you get to the loading docks however, it's still a bustle of activity, with a number of large 18-wheelers and various other containers resting around the large warehouse; many of which are in the process of being broken down and their various contents being taken up areas of the facility. Now, you just need to-

“Hey, you!” Oh, well, nuts. “Why you standin’ around?” Geez, this guy’s big... “Get section E5 opened up and get a move on!” He points towards a large series of crates that from the look of it, are nearly as tall and wide as you. A number of others are already half opened, their parts looking like stuff for...not sure. Merchandise stalls, if you had to take a guess.

“We’re already runnin’ behind and- hey, NO! Those go to the press box, other way! Make sure to get the freestanding speakers, too!” He also seems super harried, as he runs off to correct someone else.

Well, probably best to not have too many looks thrown your way too soon. And hopefully this won't take too long to get done.

The field workers were busy unpacking the smaller boxes aren't questioning you at all as you step up and begin to dismantle things bit by bit. They're big boxes, but the contents themselves aren't particularly huge, a whole lot of plates and paper goods and whatnot.

“So, where are these headed again?” you ask, picking up a well-bundled box of plastic plates.

“B-3, storage near the front,” one of them says easily. “These are all stuff for the imported snack booths, remember?”

“Oh, yeah, right…” Whatever. But now you have an opportunity to ask a few things to these guys as you and they start lifting and getting things onto hand trucks.

“SO,” you fake-grunt as you begin hauling stuff along with the others, “just who all’s supposed to be showing up to this thing? Seems like there's a lot of VIP talk going around…”

“Heck if I know,” one of the older workers says. “Never really bothered to learn the details besides what goes where and when, but it's probably a buncha stuffed shirts. Heard that there was supposed to be a lot more guards showin’ up than normal- that's why it's already bad that we're so behind. Things are just gonna get worse if we're not finished in a couple hours.”

“Pft, like that’s happening,” one of the younger movers says wryly. “And for the record, it’s not just the higher ups. Apparently there's supposed to be a bunch pro battlers here to just watch things- top five from last year, I think. Ariella Snaps is suppose to show up, I remember that much. Kinda surprised, honestly- thought she’d be busy touring.” Huh. Wonder who that is.

Word is they’ve made a top of the line Minibot, better than anything ever seen before. Not showing it all off, though, just some of its parts.” Aha. “Winner of the whole thing gets to be the first to bring him online publicly.” Interesting…

“Yeah, I heard that, too,” the second says. “But they’re gonna have to beat him first, huh?”

“I heard they scrapped that idea,” the third responds as you get to a concession stand. As you begin unloading stuff, you figure that you might need to pinpoint your questions a bit more…

“Wonder how it’s all gonna go down…” you air out.

The first guy shrugs. “Dunno. I know they got themselves a room made private in the service area- we were told not to go around there, remember? Apparently that’s why- the tech heads are hoping to keep the details all top-secret until tomorrow. It’s not even showing up until early tomorrow, I think.”

As you begin to walk back, though, a sound of running causes all four of you to look back...

What you end up seeing is a another thin man, complete in uniform; but this time you can see that he has a bit more- yellow stripes on both sleeves, which is something that no one else here has. Off the top of your head, you can only assume that he's someone slightly higher up in management. “Hey, Jake, Tex, either of you seen Phil recently?”

You end up looking at the other two, who both shake their heads before you. “Can’t say we have, but, well. Phil’s everywhere.” the first responds.

He just sighs. “Damnit. I’ve asked just about everyone; Leon, Micheal, Sunny... hey, what about you?” he asks- before squinting at you in vague confusion. “Wait, I don’t know you...do I? Dangit, I’ve been busy. What’s your name?”

“Melody, sir!” you answer immediately. You wouldn’t be here much longer anyway.

“What division are you in again?” he asks, and you realize you’re in a hotseat, even if by accident.

“Oh, geez, sorry!” you say, putting on as much of an ‘I'm new’ act as you possibly can. “I'm with the division in charge of putting the pamphlets and posters and stuff, sir. The big muscly man asked to help with this stuff- he said we were getting behind schedule or something and pulled me in into this.”

“Division in charge of…pamphlets?” He says slowly, raising an eyebrow and muttering to himself.

“Ahah, well, I mean. Sorry if I don’t know the proper names yet! I´m still learning the ropes and all that, y’know?” you shrug with an embarrassed grin. “This place has been a madhouse and I’ve just sorta kinda of been trying to make sense of everything as I go! I was putting up posters and signs and junk and then I’m looking for more and next thing I know I’m movin’ plates!” You add a bit of an exasperated tone to your voice, to try and indicate your ‘exhaustion’.

Fortunately, it takes, as the man just sighs in annoyance as the other two just shrug. “Fine, fine, whatever. You’re talking about Wilbur, I think he was in charge of handling advert materials. Just- get back to him once you’re done with this, okay? Melody, right? I’ll let him know you’re with the setup crew for a bit when I see him.”

Oh. Oh boy. Before you can insist he doesn’t need to do that, he’s walking away.

Well, if you don't catch him alone really quickly in order to give him some very fuzzy memories, he's going to rat you out, and then things will just be a whole big mess. You need to find some way to catch his attention and then lead him off somewhere private. But you can't go after him immediately, and you’re just about to start back before you fake start in shock. “Guys, I’ll be right back,” you say, jogging off in the man’s last direction. “Just remembered something!”

Hopefully he hadn't gotten too far , and you'd be able to take him off to the corner- aha! Oh, wow, seems like he IS busy; there’s another set of individuals he’s talking to- likely asking the same question. You see one of them point in a direction and say a few words, and he smiles as the two walk away to continue working. Seems like he finally got a good lead. You’ll be more than happy to let him find the guy...just as soon as you have a word with him, first.

“Excuse me, sir?” The man turns around in confusion, raising an eyebrow at you. “I almost forgot to mention something- can you come with me for a second? It’s kinda private.”

“Private?” He’s questioning, but the way he walks or do you indicate that he's willing to listen, and sure enough you grabbed him by the arm easily enough as you lead him to a quiet area out of the ways of prying eyes- right under the entrance tunnels should be perfect… “What do you need to mention?”

Your eyes glow faintly as you feel your magic squirm through his mind. “Oh...nothing too memorable.”

As you walk away, fully aware that the daze he’s in will wear off in an even minute, you have to admit you’re looking forward to tomorrow.

You didn’t leave without overhearing some pretty choice information. Seems like there had been a bit of a discussion about just want the security was going to be, so they would know what to place where. Looked like it was among a couple of the team leads, but the fact that they knew and didn't see you nearby meant that now you know. Ceberis guard dogs, just as Mr. King said, but they didn't mention anything about Jijis. They instead mentioned something called ‘Gargant’ model bots being placed to ‘not leave anything to chance’. You had no clue what those were, and you resolved to ask King about them before anything else happened. They sounded intimidating, but hopefully that was all in the name.

By the time you leave though, it's evening, the sun just dippin over the horizon and yourself back in your ‘normal’ clothes. You can see there's a number of kids out and about, just messing around- playing various sports, many with bots of their own either joining (if obviously restraining themselves) and, a distance down and across the street, a bit of a park area, with a few battles in progress in designated smaller areas, complete with protective walls.

>Mill about for a bit and see if you can glean anything interesting from one of the fights.

Well, as much as you would like to see just how the kids do things around here, you do need to see just what's going on with that new bot type. And all things considered, if it's worst case scenario you need to be planning for it as soon as possible.

Ugh, the horrors of having to actually pay attention, sometimes. It’s so troublesome. You’re gonna have a nice hot soak later on your off-hours. Maybe find a cute boy…

When you get back, you’re surprisingly not accosted by anyone this time. Pleasant change. But that doesn't mean that people don't notice. Several of the more normal workers are notably keeping a clear distance from you, and some of them are trying not to lock eyes with you. Can't help but wonder what brought that on, but at the moment it's not really something you're overly worried about. Maybe they're just intimidated by your beauty, who knows?

But, enough of that. You need to see just if these Gargants are as bad as they sound…

----------

“Worse,” Mr. King says as he close as some sort of holographic newsletter. “Gargants are a special class, exclusively used for industrial purposes and private defenses. They’re basically living tanks; larger than average, surprisingly fast, and are very difficult to defeat in a standard battle. Most bots don’t have the firepower to take one down. I have one or two myself, actually. Mostly for research purposes, but they do occasionally take turns guarding my more...delicate works.” He huffs. “My bots are meant for more than just simple guard duty, but the Gargants were designed exclusively for that. And they do it well. Damned Aiba Corporation...they’re a consistent thorn in my side, even now!” he grumbles.

Well, that explains that. Aaaand it doesn’t sound good. You’re going to have to be seriously careful with this.

>Go see how Prima is doing- you’re going to need her for this.

>These kind of company normaly have some kind of "ace"? Someone they usualy use to demonstrate their product or stress text their gear? If i can manage to get in their rank i could avoid the gargants.
>Also tell him about our infiltration abd the know about the uniforms make him sure we have a secure way to go and also tell him about how they are taking very much care with the piece. Just to asure him that we have a plan and we can do it easily.
>>
>Several of the more normal workers are notably keeping a clear distance from you, and some of them are trying not to lock eyes with you. Can't help but wonder what brought that on, but at the moment it's not really something you're overly worried about.

I guess Prima's data showed us punching a bit with our fist and sending it flying and the gossip started to flow.

“‘Aiba Corporation’?” You ask with a raised eyebrow.

He nods, a fierce frown on his face that you suspect doesn't even begin to get into the depths of which he hates this company. “Yes...a long-entrenched Minibot and resource development company that enjoys making claims of superiority, when it’s quite clear that it’s MY Minibots that superior!” His fist slams down on the table, and you're kind of surprised at the rattle it makes. “The Aiba family and their breed are quite possibly the only people I LOATHE as much as Kanzaki. They’ve gotten in the way of numerous business deals, undercut my own attempts at influence, and even have to gall to call my Minobots SUBSTANDARD! Can you believe that?!” Oh, geez, he’s ranting now. Up and flailing and everything. “And their little prodigy- Miyumi Aiba. She’s being groomed to take over the family business, and the little brat already has the gall to call me ‘yesterday’s news!’”

Ouch. That’s...rough, you guess. “So they’re just kind of always in your way?”

He barks out a laugh that's not at all happy. “Oh, YES. They seem to take a particular delight in butting heads with me, and it's infuriating!” Honestly, the way he’s going, you’d say he hates the Aiba Corporation a LOT more than Kanzaki...but maybe it's just a different kind of hate?

He turns to you, his eyes alight with something close to a manic rage. “Tell me, you don’t think someone trying to prove themselves superior to you at every turn would be incessantly frustrating? That their constant poking and prodding as though they were children begging for attention wouldn’t make you furious!?”

“Hey, I wanna try, too! Lemme see that mic, I can totally sing!”

“Ugh, it’s not that kind of mic! Go bug mom for one of your own!”

There's a lot you want to say to that.

A lot.

But.

You can’t.

So you just nod, a small smile on your face. “...Yessir. I suppose I can see where you’re coming from. It WOULD get annoying.” Until you miss it.

Yet, he nods, satisfied. “Exactly. Which is why I hate the thought of having to deal with them even in my more...clandestine ventures. Bah!” He sits down, frowning. “Perhaps something can be arranged in the future to get them out of my hair- at least until I gain the Arhu parts.” Then, his frown turns into a malicious grin as the thoughts snake through his head. “Then, they can complain all they like. I’ll be the one to mass produce my own variant of the Arhu, and they’ll be forced to admit just who TRULY is superior…”

...Cute.

There’s a silence after that, to which he looks at you oddly, and then waves you off wordlessly. You don’t really feel like messing with him or anything, so you just leave. But that doesn't mean you still don't have things to do. You’re going to-

*beepbeepbeep* Oh, huh. Message?

‘Prima in acceptable operational condition. She asks to see you.’ Huh. That’s...unexpected. But you were going to see her anyway.

When you get there, she’s...well, she’s Prima. Her bow is fixed, as is her hand, although you can see it still needs a couple of bits of plating, and there's a couple of areas that still clearly need to be buffed out or replaced. But, she’s there, sitting up, and eyes slanted upwards in a smile. ‘Miss, I am glad to see you in good health! I’m pleased that you came so quickly, too!” But just as she was smiling, so quick do her eyes turn down. “I must ask your forgiveness for the other night- I am afraid my analyzations of the opponent proved...incomplete. He overwhelmed me despite my efforts.” The whole of her body seems to sag, metal or no...is she really that torn up about this?

“I- no!” Prima shifts off of the table, landing with an easy clunk- glad her motor functions don't seem to need any kind of fixing. “I believe you made the optimal choice in tenuous situation. We couldn't let Mr. King down, could we?”

“...True, yeah,” you have to admit. There's a reason you're on this job, after all… “but that still doesn’t mean I didn’t do so hot with you.”

“Nonsense!” She says, and you’re actually a bit surprised at how strongly she says it. “I think you were a fine commander, and I apologize for leaving you without support for so long. I swear to you that I will-”

“Ey, now, what’s alla this?” Oh. “Who’s dis foine sheila and why ‘aven’t ya innerduced me?”

Prima startles at the larger captain bot standing in the doorway, now in two panting engineers. “E-Eh?! Who is- what is this? I do not know this Minibot- Miss?” She turns to you, and you swear that if she was human, you'd be seeing tears welling in her eyes right now. “W-what is this meant to be? Have I...been replaced?”

“What? No, no…” You’ve got some explaining to do, you suppose. “Prima, I’d like you to meet...well, he’s kinda our new partner, I guess! Meet Jago!”

“Quite the pleasure!” Did he just wink?

The way she tilts, you’d think she was visibly struck. “P-partner? This was not anticipated! My internal simulation programs will need to be severely adjusted!”

...You’ve got some explaining to do. But, now that they’re both here, it’s high time to figure out what the gameplan is.

You got a couple of options. Just need to figure out which one you want to go for…

>Just try to infiltrate the arena without anyone knowing you’re there. Steal the parts well before the exhibition. A lot of security to get through, but you will be able to leave whenever you like.

The easiest way to get in the building without any kind of suspicion, is to belong there in the first place. And the best way for them to believe you belong there in the first place…

“Name and Bot?” The young man at the ‘Last Second Sign-Up’ counter asks the next morning, his eyes showing that all too common mix of annoyance and disinterest in his job.

“Himawari,” you answer easily. Interestingly, he doesn't ask for your last name, and you don't bother to give it to him. “And my bot is right here- the good Captain Jago!”

“An’ dontcha ferget it!” Jago says up to him. The tired teen just looks down with a nonplussed stare, shrugs, and writes the name in.

“Brackets will be finalized in approximately hour and a half,” he says with absolutely no interest. “Please make sure that when your name is called for your match that you respond within 30 seconds, or else you will be disqualified and lose the right to compete in all other M-9 Grand Prix events for the remainder of the competition.”

...Oof. That...might actually cause some issues if the other parts would continue to be shown off. Still, you nod in understanding. He hands you a badge with your name on it. “Please do not lose this badge, for it will allow you to access the challengers-only break area, as well as the waiting area, which you will find signs directing you to,” he says in the same monotone. “If you do then you will not be allowed in the arena for your match, and you will be disqualified...you get the idea. Good luck in there.” You’re positive that last bit was only said because he had to say it.

“Thank you so much!” you give as you offer a bright and cheery smile to him, which he only responds to with a grunt. With that handled, you waltz on inside.

The place is absolutely buzzing with people, and it seems jam-packed; a far cry from yesterday. It's actually going to take you a bit of time just to move through this massive crowd, really…

“S-scuse me! Pardon!” Trying to squirm your way through massive crowds was never pleasant. When you’re having to haul ass away from someone or something even more so, but even just getting from point A to point B involved bumping and prodding amongst a sea of bodies, and more than often than not one or a million people step on your feet and honestly, it’s just a mess.

But the people you bump into just as you clear the sea of people makes it...well, you’re not sure it was worth it, but…

“Oh, whoa! Hey there, Himawari!” Tooru says cheerfully as he and Kyo turn from overlooking the arena. The two of them are just on the side of the entrance tunnel, both out of the way of most of the foot traffic. “Came to watch things happen, huh? Somethin’ told me you wouldn’t be able to resist!” He waggles his eyebrows, and you have to hold in a laugh as Kyo’s expression flattens.

“Riiiight,” the young boy says easily to his friend before turning to you. “So, Tooru told me yesterday you did pretty good in a mock battle with him, huh?” You can see Tooru’s expression shift into something resembling panic behind him.

The poor fool.

You put on your most brilliant smile as you bounce on your feet energetically. “Oh, yeah! He really taught me a lot! I’m really grateful!”

Kyo blinks in bafflement- just as Tooru’s jaw drops. The gobsmacked kid has just enough time to shut his lid as his friend turns back to him, looking at him in amazement. When he turns back to you, he has an expression of skeptical astonishment on his face. “Wait, seriously?”

You nod rapidly, engrossing yourself in the innocent act. “Yup! He was real good with teaching me how to move and stuff! In fact, I signed up for the tournament thanks to him!”

“What?!” both of their eyes expand to the size of near dinner plates, and Kyo looks back at his friend with something on the border of both of rage and incredulousness, while Tooru himself just looks at you with open astonishment.

You pretend not to notice either, your eyes now closed as you give juuust the right tilt of the head. “Oh, with his tips and advice I'm sure I can at least make the semi's!”

“Uhh...good luck?” Kyo says uncomfortably. It's clear he doesn't think much of your capabilities...and honestly, you can’t blame him.

“Hey, big guy!” A robot voice calls behind you. “We got the snacks n’ stuff!”

Turning around, you’re...less than surprised to see that bot you fought the other night, along with Moxer. With them is the girl you saw the other day as well- when she looks at you, there’s a flash of surprise on her face, but it quickly morphs into a pleasant smile. “Hi!” the girl says. “I’d wave, but I have my arms full!”

“I’ll do it for you!” Says a Minibot near her- this one is green, and remembers an upright bat, judging by its face. It extends a metallically winged arm, with tipped claws. “Heya!”

“Oh, hi there! And don’t worry, it’s fine!” You wave off. Seems like the trio’s together, at least...

Well, all things considered, you've got other things to look at. Namely just seeing what's going on downstairs, so to speak. Giving them all a brief yet cheerful wave, you head on towards the back, following a nearby arrow sign that points you in the right direction. Not that you really need it. You know where you're going.

The guards near the doors need only see your badge in order for you to get allowed ‘in the back’, and you follow the other signs to an area that doesn't seem much different than anything else; really it seems more like a general area you can walk around as opposed to do a singular room. But you CAN note a number of individuals that are there sitting around and waiting for the event to start, or are otherwise doing some last minute strategy talks, judging by the hushed voices to their partners.

There’s a few that seem to be keeping to themselves, however. A thin man who reminds you very much of an old fashioned cowboy, complete with traditional duster and hat and thin black goatee. He’s got a bot that seems very much a robot version of himself, color coordinated and everything, complete with small revolver guns on each forearm. Matching hats, too. They both seemed rather lackadaisical, the both of them leaning on the wall without a care in the world.

Another is a young girl who looks more like she should be in a princess pageant then a battling competition- complete with a wide, flowing dress, and her hair in large, elaborate drill-shaped curls. The bot next to her, sitting primly, is a blue and silver colored humanoid bot that reminds you kind of a elf of sorts, actually. It has a mouthguard already, and is thin and tall; nearly the size of the girl herself, you estimate. It seems to even have high heeled feet. It also seems to have some sort of rapier, and a bow attachment on one of its arms.

And then there’s one kid who seems to be glaring at everyone else. He's got on a red and black jacket, with matching shirt and pants- looks as though it's some sort of uniform. His hair is just long enough to fall over one eye, no less. No points for guessing what HIS personality is like. His bot seems just as angsty, too- kind of reminds you of a hercules beetle, complete with horns. His ‘shell’ is spiked, and his two arms are tipped with a single, long, fierce-looking curved blade. Overall, the two of them just seem to radiate an aura of restrained anger and menace.

So now you gotta think on how to make your big first impression!

>Be cheerful! Greet EVERYONE! You’re excited to be here! (And get a feel for everyone’s personality.)
>You’re awesome. You’re awesome and everyone should know it. (Time to see who might be a threat or not…)
>Approach the rich girl, see what SHE’S all about. (You can guess, but just to make sure…)
>Approach the cowpoke, maybe he’ll be up to talking a bit. (If he can wake up, at least.)

“Hi, everyone!” you cheer, giving a big wave to the heads that look up at you in surprise. “I’m Himawari, really glad to meet you all!”

There's a beat of silence as everyone registers your oddly sunny introduction, but you get a few murmured ‘heys’ back. The angry boy snorts in derision, while the cowpoke just tips his hat in greetings. The princess-looking girl just gives a small ‘tch’, as she shakes her head, a small smirk on her face. “I suspect that attitude won't last for very long.” Her voice is refined, and clearly someone who's had a lot of elocution lessons.

“Y’never know,” says one of the boys you hadn’t noticed- relatively normal streetwear, and his bot seems like an offshoot of Moxer. “Could be any one of us!”

“Pah!” the girl flips her hair dismissively at the boy’s statement. “You truly think someone like her and that...ruffian of a bot could stand up to my Artesia?” The kid just shrugs shyly in return as her eyes lock onto him- he can’t seem to keep contact though, and quickly looks down, as does his bot. “Well?”

“Uh…” you start to speak up, making yourself sound a bit shy, but as soon as she looks at you, you shake your head to ‘clear’ it, hands on your hips, making yourself look brave. “I mean, hey, I think it’s good to have that kinda hope! Nothing’s set in stone, y’know!”

“Aye,” Jago interjects. “Nevah know when somethin’ might go amiss, miss priss! I’d watch meself were I you...”

She doesn't immediately respond, a delicate eyebrow rearing up in confusion, and staring at you in surprise. Artesia immediately gets up, optics firmly on your partner. “She does not need to. I will defend her in any situation.”

There’s a tense air for a moment, before the girl gets a wicked grin on her face as she rises from her seated position, her elegant bot following behind her with almost no footsteps. The thing is practically gliding. *Her* steps, however, are sharp and easily noticeable, clacking hard against the cement. When she reaches you, she looks up at you with a stare that you're sure would have utterly cowed most others.

It’s honestly pretty adorable. “Now listen here, peasant,” she starts, putting all possible authority into her voice. “I don’t believe you quite understand who you're talking to. I am Miyumi Aiba; heir to the Aiba Corporation. The blood of Hazama Aiba flows through my veins.” You have no idea what- “THAT means that greatness is not only expected of me, but it is inevitable. As for you…?” She chuckles. “Well, perhaps you may get far enough to satisfy whatever base curiosity might take you, but winning? I’m afraid that’s out of your reach.”

‘LADIES AND GENTLEMEN! WELCOME TO THE M-9 BATTLE GRAND PRIX! ARE YOU READY TO SEE SOME AMAZING BATTLES?!’

The crowd roars, loud enough to hear even underground, and the girl- Miyumi- smirks. “I do believe you’re about to understand that first hand.”

(And done for tonight! Next run will be...well, Friday, but I may, like I said, make a thread with one-time posts. Thanks for playing!)
