You run through your diagnostic from within the cavernous chamber of your maintenance bay.

Servomotors and actuators with the power to move literal mountains of steel hum and whir with such force that an unprotected human within a dozen miles would go deaf and then die from being shaken into pulpy human paste.

Reactors and batteries with enough raw power to sustain a city for hundreds of thousands of years without issue come online, heat and static electricity discharges can be seen from your cameras all along your titanic frame.

You flex the godlike limbs of your great war machine, flexing each goliath digit on your metallic hands, shrugging shoulders that could withstand hundreds of millions of tons of weight stacked on them.

From your position in orbit looking down on a barren world, you feel like some ancient god ready to wage a final battle to decide the fate of all creation.

The sweat on your brow betrays your feelings of apotheosis. You have struggled to reach this point, carefully maintaining your god-machine and building yourself up from near nothing to participate in the great tournament.

You cut it far too close with preparations.
If you had spent just 6 more months to get this promethean gladiator ready you would not have been able to participate at all in the great tournament and everything you had strived for would be for nothing save that you possess a titan now.

You shake your head and pound your chest with your fist. No time to lose focus or waste time reminiscing like some moron! The battle will begin soon and you can finally prove that you are superior to these simpering welps who call themselves nobles! You shall crush them and take their greatest possessions for yourself!

Your resolve reaffirmed you check your armament. Everything must be in working order if victory is to be assured.

Your descent to the planet's surface is brief. The hulking frame of your titan bears the immense friction admirably. From deep inside the bowels of your machine only the slightest change in gravity is felt and a paltry rumble is allowed to mark your successful landing.

Even an orbital drop barely registers on your godmachine's internal systems. A true testament to the time you took to ensure Algol's structural integrity.

You stride accross the barren surface of this lifeless world in search of prey, your sensors picking up seismic activity that could only be another titanic gladiator nearby.

You can only imagine what one of these sniveling silver spoon fed fops would think of your titan. You had spent a considerable amount of time and money customizing your machine's appearance.

Armor as black as the yawning mouth of the void with crimson detailing that covers the formidable carapace of Algol. The titan's head unit is angular with deep set glowing eyes that burn like coals lit by hellfire and massive obsidian horns arrogantly scratching the heavens. The head is almost skull like in shape adding to its baleful visage.

Clawed fingers that glow faintly are on the heavy hands of Algol instead of fingers and the enourmous flat feet of Algol split slightly evoking the cloven hoof of a goat or ram.

The forbbiding bright light of your plasma mortars and the blood red light of your lasers highlight the titans devilish form, casting enourmous shadows that stalk the empty alien steppe around you.

From within your command chamber a cruel smile splts your massive face. This is gonna be fun.

Although you have prepared rigorously for combat since you completed Algol. Training and practicing fighting using Algol and your assortment of weaponso yu must admit (bitterly) that you have not actually fought another titan before.

Better prey means better ransom, but it is best to warm first before facing a real opponent. You advance upon the battered machine vaguely guessing at how any godmachine could become so uncharacteristically pathetic.

You approach the sorry bastard from behind surprising him. Hard to surprise someone when your over a mile in height and weigh millions upon millions of tons, but the sudden jerking motion and unsteadty jolt as the junk goliath turns to meet you can only mean the poor bastard didn't see or hear you coming.

His camera array must only consist of his main sensors and the array in the front. Good to know

>Don't bother wasting your power reserves, beat this pile of scrap with your enourmous metal fists

From just looking at this sorry excuse of a titan you can tell that it doesn't have any torso or shoulder mounted weapons. Save for the two basic lasers mounted on its arms it is unarmed and on top of outgunning the disgraced colossus you can tell that your half again as large. Nature takes its course within your thoughts.

Small weak target? Beat it to death.

You advance on your target with lightning speed, eating up dozens of miles in mere seconds. You will enjoy this maybe a little too much.

>okay now here it how combat works.

In combat you and your opponent(s) square off and fight by rolling against each other.

If you use ranged weapons you roll 1 d20 for rach weapon you fire. You can fire all of your ranged weapons during your turn once, and you can divide up who you want to shoot with what you want to shoot.

In melee you get in close to whoever and start swinging. Same prinicple for combat applies to melee as ranged combat. If you got two melee weapons you make two rolls if you got one weapon you make one roll.

You got two fists which each do 1d6 damage

>roll 2d20+2 for offense and beat my two rolls to dodge

The pitiful sight of the junker scrambling to get up inpsires at least some sympathy. poor bastard is having the worst day possible. Probably joined in to get at least a shred of ransom or fame to bring home.

None of that stops you from beating on him while he's down however.

The glare of your arm lasers turns to twin lances of fiery death. Your opponents shoulder melts slightly streams of molten metal dripping much like blood would if your target were a living thing rather than a machine.

You follow your point blank shot with two solid punches. Each rock the scrapyard warrior on his knees, large dents forming on the back of his torso.

You notice something odd though as you tenderize his metal kidneys. There seems to be some small thrusters on his ba... and the shoulder tackle that slam you on your colossal metal ass comes before you can even react. Now it seems its the junkmans turn to deal punishment.

As junkman looms over you ready to rain punches you can only assume he senses that the tides have changed and that he holds the initiative.

He sadly does not.

As he attempts to bludgeon Algol's head with both fists you catch both before he can do much more then rear back. You can feel the feedback of his hands crunching under Algols adamantine grip.

You smile at the thought of Junkman's puny thrusters because that reminds you that you have better ones.

The jolt as you rocket from the ground and then rise above the earth surprises your adversary and leaves him unprepared for waht you do next.

You turn him upside down and wrap your arms around him, and slam him into the earth face first.

The sound of his titan crumpling is heavenly.

>alpha strike the green titan

You arrive just in time for both warriors to begin dueling. The imbeciles have finally stopped glaring at each other, and now they draw closer for combat. Their focus is not on you, at least for the moment. This is good because you intend to fire everything you have at the green one. Too many guns on that titan, gotta make sure he doesn't have the oppurtunity to shoot at you.

Of course you risk handing the ransom to the blue warrior if he can secure the finishing blow, but you calculate the chance is low at least right now.

Taking aim with all of your ranged weapons, you adjust your torso to make sure your plasma mortars have a clear path. Just before the blue buffon can close to melee he misses with both his shoulder weapons, and then you decide to fire right before the two unsuspecting titans collide.

The glare of your energy weapons firing is so severe that it's enough to disrupt the local atmosphere. Your armament gives off catastrophic peals of thunder so large the dust beneath you is sent flying for miles.

You swear the green titan tries to cover his metal face reflexively.

They were staring each other down and just decided to commit to battle just as you got there. You decided to wait for te blue titan to shoot and distract the green titan so you cold take a solid shot at him, but the green titan dodge rolled and now the blue titan is trying to hack green to pieces. Blue just now got first blood.

At last you score some hits on the green titan. Your lasers melting off thousands of tons of armor across the beleagured titan torso in chaotic sprays of molten metal.

You chortle slightly as it seems blue is content to do your work for you, as he keeps swinging at green.

Unofrtunately green seems to have had enough of being double teamed and does something unexpected.

Just as the giant blade swings down, the green titan's slams both hands across the blade stopping it dead. One swift kick and a burst from the thrusters at the base of green titan sends blue flying with out his sword.

Green turns to you and sends his first volley at you, no doubt wishing to get a little payback from being repeatedly shot at.

Okay I'm gonna lay some lore on you.

You are participating in the great tournament. A gathering of the known universe's Godmachine pilots for who will replace the Emperor of earth and become the undisputed champion of titanic combat.

You are in the first phase of the tourney (which the tourney itself usually lasts more than a decade). Space travel across the galaxy can last for months and everyone starts out from the edge of space before pilgramiging to earth for the final round.

Right now you are in a grand melee free for all style match with only objective being defeating as manny opponents as possible before the match ends.

Each defeated opponents gives you ransom which in this case means you take 1 weapon or piece of equipment from them of your choice. The judges observing also award points for defeating other pilots. You need so many point to move on to the next round of the tournament. There are multiple matches within this round.

As the green titan charges you examine its appearance with greater care. Its body is covered in carefully golded emeral green armor plating with gold filigre and detailing. The head resembles one of those old helmets armored warriors used to wear with a bright red plume that was probably several hundred feet long. Its optical unit seemed to be a wide singular visor rather than specific eyes, that glowed brilliant blue.

The green titan evokes some ancient knight in its design, truely this is a most wonderous machine at least from a aesthetic perspective.

You cackle as your plasma mortal collides with one of the titan's arms and your laser beams cook his lead hand holding the greatsword.

The fine digits spark and bubble and with a sharp burst of speed provided by your thusters you throw all of your weight and force into a massive punch.

*CLANG*

The destroyed arm sails through air and the
sword it previously held now freely spins in the air. With single deft movement you jump and spring board off of the green knight and take the sword for yourself.

When you land you notice that the blue titan approaches but the green titan is currently what on its face due to being used as a springboard.

A warm fuzzy feeling engulfs you as you fondly twirl this wonderful new sword. Nice balance, keen edge. You turn to face the blue titan as he approaches to finally do battle with you. He's a rather unremarkable looking titan. Solid navy blue armor and a single cycplopean eye in a square head. Rather blocky in overall shape to quite frank. The artisan who designed it most likely wasn't much for style.

You step forward to impale your now swordless enemy, when you notice that the green titan has not gotten up. He struggles but with his missing arm he's having a time of it. An absolutely evil plan comes to mind, one that makes you nearly split your face with a smile.

You allow Blue to get closer, his guns fire but you dodge them easily. He fires again. You dodge again. The blude bastard breaks into a sprint arms forward and mechanical eye glaring balefully.

Perfect.

In one swift movement you dropp the sword and instead grab the green titan by legs and with every single ounce of power in Algol's artificial muscles and actuators along with some liberal use of your thrusters you slam the fallen titan into your current target.

Both of your adversaries go flying, a cataclysmic roar of clangin metal and following creating a massive compression of air around you.

Green sends a garbled message that he yields and Blue remains motionless.

Excellent. You pick up the sword and prepare to finish this fight.

If green is pinning blue, then impale one of his arms with the sword. If green isn't pinning blue, we nail blue into the planet with the sword. Then we start pummeling it.

You take to the sky sword in tighly gripped in Algol's clawed hands. Dipping the blade down ward you cut your thrusters and allow gravity to once again take hold of you. The face of a titan is metal and usually not made to be terribly expressive and this one is as simple in appearance as one can be. But you still feel fear emanating from the blue cyclops as you impale him with his own sword. The single eye witnessing the entire process, the pilot of the titan helpless to stop you.

The sword pierces through the titans torso with ease. Fluids and massive gouts of electricity spring from the gaping wound you create.

"I Yield." The message that flashes acorss your screen inspires another cruel smile.

Following closely is the message that the match is over and that you have been recognized as defeating 3 titans, and as such the ransom is yours and yours alone.

From within your command chamber you stretch and go to get some lunch in your quarters. Algol is massive that you took care to place an aprtment within to pass the time until you reach orbit again. You await for your mobile fortress to retrieve you until then. Some victory steak is in order.

From blue I'm torn between the sword or the extra armor. Actually I'll take the extra armor.

>back for more titanic combat let's go

The trip from orbit around the arena world to the space station is onerous. 48 hours of FTL travel after two days of traveling there to begin with.

You were excercising and re-reading some of your old instruction manuels when your navigation computer finally announced that you were approaching Polaris grand station.

Polaris is of course a hub station for the earth based FTL communications system. The only way to send any kind of message without resorting to months of travel and mail ships.

The station also doubled as a massive trade and leisure hub. The perfect place to hold the tournament really. The mobile recorders that transmitted action planetside broadcasted everything to the station before televising the entire event to every other post across the galaxy. Every match and fight would be recorded down to even the most unremarkable scuffle during the first round.

You would need to review your performance. Nothing like watching your own fights to dissect it for any flaws you might have made.

As you orbit the moon sized station you contemplate contacting the tournament committe to claim your ransom or maybe going aboard and doing a bit of relaxing. Spacious and comfortable your quarters built into Algol and your mobile fortress may be they are still devoid of people and you never bothered to transform them into palaces like some pilots are known to do. Waste of money to make a warmachine some idiotic clubhouse.

You shrug and close your books. Time to decide.

>What do you want to do?

>claim your ransom. Get one piece of gear from your defeated enemies

>go aboard Polaris station. Encounters and NPCs galore

>Inspect Algol. You took some damage and you also know that a titan is liable to shift after battle.

>Inspect Algol. You took some damage and you also know that a titan is liable to shift after battle.

You decide to inspect Algol. You placed the diabolic god machine back onto the maintenence bay after you docked with your fortress, starting the diagnostic programs and went to sleep.

Now that some time has passed you take the the tram to the bay to check on your titan. The trip is long due to the absolutely massive size of the fortress. It has to haul Algol and repair the devil machine afterall. 15 minutes of travel later you activate your engineering command center and begn to examine any changes in the titan.

The cavernous chamber is the same as when you left for battle, massive machines and equipment for servicing a god-machine at the ready, Algol's terrifying form motionless, but illuminated by building sized spot lights.

All damage dealt during the tournament has been repaired, nothing unusal there since you didn't take much damage to begin with.

What surprises you is that further investigation shows that the sevomotors and artitifical muscles of Algol have grown stronger and that the colossal metal skelton has been reinforced.

Titans are enigmatic pieces of technology. Created millenia ago under the most mysterious of circumstances and while the art of building them from scratch is still known the nature of the technology behind them retains a mystery regardless. You have never been allowed to be anywhere near a titan until you built Algol, but you had been told that titans could evolve in a way if they pushed their limits.

Between mostly beating your opponents into scrap in melee with nothing but Algol's raw strength and the stunts you pulled in battle the overall strength of your titan has increased.

>trait gained for Algol
>Incredible strength (+2 to melee damage and strength checks)

Satisfied with your titan's condition you return to your main chambers and contemplate on what to do next.

What do you do now?

>Claim your ransom. Get one piece of gear from your defeated enemies

>Go to one of the artisan vendors for parts

Althoug it is questionable, it is speculated by some scholars that titans have a sort of quasi ai that is created when a pilot synchronizes with the titan for the first time when the neuro helmet equivalent is put on.

It is said that the titans can sometimes form a strong bond with their creators and with their pilots. Rickert just so happens to be both.
>>
>>2421357
Double the bonds for double the tag teaming ownage.
>>
>>2421302

You turn on the feed to Algol's repair bay and you can't help but smile at the machine you have created.

When you finished you stint in the army you had no future or money to your name. You were lucky enough to have kep your power armor and your equipment, but with no war and no pension you were the rare postion of being a genuinely imporvershed person.

In a galaxy where labor is rarely in short supply and even the poor are fat and content the way you were cast aside like garbage still stings. That was over 30 years ago.

Fighting as a mercenary for years, taking the most dangerous missions and figthing for months on end. You had hijacked battleships and ransomed high nobles to gain your fortune, to realise your ambition.

You were forced into the meat grinder by your overlords, the house of Arnheimer when you were little more then a boy. The fact that countless friends and comrades were slain in their pointless war to expand their holdings stripped you of the everyone you ad ever cared about, and any chance at a comfortable life.

Algol was the vision you held in your mind since you first saw a titan. To become a steely god of war and attain eternal glory and a chance at a legacy that would remain for all time. To challenge house Arnheimer and break their titan in two and ruin their fortunes.

You had spent 12 years of nonstop toil creating Algol. Spending every single credit and coin to realise your dream. The tournaments announcement was merely providence. A golden opportunity to prove yourself, and achieve even greater heights.

Looking at Algol's fearsome skull like head fills you with a pleasant warmth. This is the first step and your trusty god machine will certainly lend you the strength needed to finally rise above your humble origins.

You turn off the feed and begin drafting the notice for ransom. The tounrament commission will handle the transaction, but you'll need to look over the manifest of what equipment your fallen opponents actually used in battle. Ransom after all only applied to weapons and equipment they used in the battle where they were defeated.

>you send for the ransom you are owned and recieve the list shortly afterward

From the junk titan take one item

Junk

So equipment of the same type don't stack?
>>
>>2421581
I also remember that about the better the performance the more people would like you? How about that titan throwing or inpailing, huh?
>>
>>2421649
>>2421655

To answer your first question no equipment of the same type do not stack. The thrusters used by junk titan perform the same function but yours are on the level above and therefore they allow you to do more or they provide a bonus toward certain actions like jumping high.

To answer your second question I said that the judges award points, but the points system is based on the number of oponents you defeat. A single delta class titan is 1 point. Since you defeated 3 you now have 3 points. You need to have top 10% in points by the last match of this round of the tournament to move on.

That being said being a real crowd pleaser will usually get you some patronage if you gain some real tangible fame. Being a fan favorite on a glactic scale has its benefits. Your performance during this first match was remarkable, and those watching on the station got really fired up. They would probably buy you a beer or something if they were to somehow find out who you are. Also they think your titan looks really cool.

>>2421860

Rather mediocre ransom considering you were able to take down 3 sperate titans, but the heavy autocannon and the additional armor are good enough for now.

You contemplated looking for an artisan to purchase more equipment, or looking for work, but it's been a long time since you've had the opportunity to relax and socialize.

You board one of your personal shuttles and head over to the station. There will be plenty to do and even more people to meet.

As you speed toward one of the airlocks you take time to appreciate Polaris station's design.

Polaris is a massive tower style station with 4 seperate sections each dedicated to servicing a specific need. Clad in bright white and red colored metal the station has multiple space ports to hold smaller ships and shuttles as well as dry docks for larger vessels located at the bottom of the tower.

Your fortress is too large to fit, but it orbits Polaris along with hundreds of others owned by different Titan pilots. You like this station its bright and flawless exterior creates a welcoming atmosphere along with guide lights for shuttles such as yours to find the appropriate landing bays.

Once you get close enough to begin boarding you think about which sections you want to visit.

Pick sections you want to visit you don't need to pick just one

>The uppermost section. It's where all the visiting nobles spend most of their time. Real swanky place

>The lowest section. Filled with engineers, gearheads and sailors. Not much for high culture, but there's still plenty to do.

>The upper-middle section. Most of the stations operations including the tourney commision are there. Not much for fun, but there are lots of fans and officials here.

>Lower-middle section. Shopping, regular restaurants and entertainment are all found here. if you want to mingle with ordinary people and forget about work you'll find it in spades.
>>
>>2421972
Upper middle. Wanna see what people thought about our performance.

Is there a time limit to do stuff before the next match? When is the next event?
>>
>>2421986
Weeks man. There are 4 matches and each match is longer than the last.

You had enough time for 2 combat sections in the forst match, there will be 3 combats in the second match and so on until the fourth and final match where there will be enough time for 5 combat segements. Plenty of time to rack up lots of wins and gain plenty of ransom.

In the time between matches pilots look for work, improve their titans, dick around, and duel. There is even a bracket style tournament at each major station where all the competitors get togethor to win several metric fuckloads of gifts and ransom.
>>
>>2421986
>upper middle section

You decide that looking around the operation center and the tourney commission would be a good place to visit first. They have replays of not only the match you were in but matches from all over the galaxy. Plus you want to look and see if your performance raised any Eye brows.

>You dock your shuttle and enter the operations section of the station. Immediately you see a massive open space containing what looks like a bustling city burough. Tall building like structures and most impressively the largest holographic display you've ever seen. The damn thing was probably a quarter mile in height and just as wide. On it was highlights of the match that you participated in.

On screen at the moment was a strange looking titan that resembled an armored knight with oddly feminine features wielding a massive sword that glowed and arced with power. Facing off against 3 other titans the white, blue and gold titan danced between gunfire and energy blast before decapitating the head ofone of its opponents. The strangely shaped titan continued to hack apart it foes before releasing a wave of energy that cleaved through the last standing titan like it was nothing.

Terrifying power. Graceful movements too, you can't see any dents or scratches on the victorious god-machine even when the footage zooms in.

You can hear loud cheering from all around like a mixture of thunder and heavy rainfall. The crowd seems to be as equally impressed as you are. Neat

You move along drifting into a crowd and looking for an information center. Lukcily you fond one soon and get directions to places of interest to you,

Places you can visit pick any or all it don't matter you got plenty of time.

When you looked through the electronic map and guide earlier there was an interesting place that popped up on the recommendation list for visitors.

A restaurant/bar called the Atlas Club that serviced fans of titan dueling and the grand tournament. Lots of good food, plenty of drinks, and access to all of the current and previous matches on holo screen at each table.

Between the selection of food and the clientele a visit to the Atlas club souns like it's right your alley.

go to the atlas club
>>
When you arrive at the Atlas club you notice the club has an interesting choice in storefront. Above the front door a holographic display shows two Titans fighting each each other. The display switches between different titans, Algol actually shows up fighting the junk titan, specifically the moment when you slammed the junk titan head first into the gound. You feel your face split into a shit eating grin immediately. Looks like you made an impression.

Going through the entrance you are quickly ushered inside. The club consists of a series of citcular booths that go into the ground slightly, all of them built around a holographic projector.

One of the hosts gives a touchpad menu and gestures to pick where you want to sit.

"Just pick a spot and enjoy the show. Most patrons like dissecting new fights during tournament season."

You nod and pick an order of roasted bird and vegetable side with some fine liqour. A liberal amount of liqour do to your exceptional ability to withstand intoxication on account of your augmented organs.

With your food ordered you look for a spot to sit at.

You notice a couple spots where a good number of patrons are already gathered around a projector.

Where do you sit down?

>At the projector where patrons are looking at matches outside of the polaris competition.
>At the projector where patrons are looking at the match you particpated in.
>At The projector where the patrons are looking at previous trounament matches and non tounament duels.
>>

>At the projector where patrons are looking at the match you particpated in.
want to get the opinions on the titan fight lovers. I'm sure there are a few that could provide some honest critique that might be helpful.
>>
>>2424149

>you decide to sit by the projector showcasing the match you were in.

You decide that examing the match would be the most productive action. Matches outside your polaris and from the past can be useful, but ultimately you aren't going to fight those titans anytime soon and getting a feel for the pilots you may want to challenge or watch out for is more important.

You approach and plop down into the nearest seat and look down at you menu pad, which now has a selection menu for fight footage. Looking up at what's already playing you see that it's the graceful titan again. This time the fight being shown is the first one the feminine machine engaged in. You immediately notive that its fighting the purple golden axe wielding titan you saw while you were searching for your first opponent.

The poor bastard doesn't seem like he stands a chance from what you can see.

The axe screams toward the white titan in a lightning fast diagonal cut, but just as the axe head nears it target the White titan has already taken a slight step back, exiting the axe's striking distance.

Every heavy swing from the greataxe doesn't even come close to grazing the white titan. Every attack is bypassed with either a quick adjustment to footwork or a gentle almost flippant sidestep.

Its movements are immediate and at no point does there seem to be a delay. Either the pilot has an exceptional connection to their machine or they're just that good at predicting the axe swings.

Soon enough the battle end with the white titan ramming its sword into the neck joint of its purple adversary. The purple titan goes limp and soon yields.

"whoah buddy now those are some fancy moves!" You look to your right and notice the whoop of cheer coming from a grey headed man.

The moment you turned to look at him he notices and locks eyes.

"Hello there, sorry for yelling , but you got to admit that was some great piloting right there. I mean that pilot didn't even look like she was trying you know? Barely even dodging out of the way and then taking the other titan out with one move. It's rare to see a fight this good so early in the tournament." He smiles and extends his hand.

"Nice to meet you, name is Neil schultz. Titan enthusiast." You extend you hand and firmly shake it. Careful to not accidently crush his hand. He seems alright at least at first glance, most people hesitate to shake the hand of super soldier.

"I'm Rickert Volgunsen, also a titan enthusiest."

"Well nice to meet ya, Rickert. I'm glad to meet a fellow fan of some old fashioned titantic combat. He he he he. Hey you got to check this out I was picking through footage to look for some good fights and found this gem. Check it out." Neil presses a button on his touchpad and the hologram projector immediately changes to your fight with thr junkman.

"Hey man we alreeady saw this fight!" One of the other patrons from across the booth complains.

(1/2)
>>
>>2424228
"yeah, but this guy here hasn't so just wait a sec." he points to you and starts the fight.

He cuts to the section where you beat junkman to a pulp and then slam him into the ground before pummeling him some more and winning.

"Holy shit man, you goota love the devil guy or Algol or whatever, but that's the funniest shit I've seen in a while. I mean that's the worst mismatch imaginable this early in the tounament, that scrap titan didn't stand a chance." Neil chuckles some more before letting the other patrons switch to another fight.

"What do you think Rickert, isn't that hilarious. I bet the devil guy was laighing his ass off the whole tim he was fighting."

>what do you say to Neil?

Do you decie to tell him you are the pilot of Algol?
>Yes
>No
>>
>>2424242
>what do you say to Neil?
Who knows. Probably if his taste in aesthetics were any indication

Do you decie to tell him you are the pilot of Algol?
>no
Gotta hand it to ya. That was pretty damn hilarious how it got stuck in the crust of the planet, but beating up on that junker didn't seem too impressive.
>inb4 he shows the vid of out 1 v 2
>inb4 ego gets stroked and hopefully get some praise
>>
You just chuckle a little at Neil's enthusiasm.

"Who knows. Probably if his taste in aesthetics were any indication. You have to be a pretty cruel guy to style your titan into a devil. I imagine he enjoyed pummeling the scraphead."

You are happy that he shares your thoughts on the subject, but now that he seems interested in Algol you decide to gauge his reaction to your other fight. If he is an enthusiest he probably has some general knowledge he can give that would be useful. You may be a pilot, but even an untrained observer can have insight if they look hard enough.

"have seen any other fight with Algol in it?"
Neil looks thoughful for a seoncd before shaking his head.

"No can't say I do, the devil guy have another fight other than with the junk guy?"

You look through some footage until you find your encounter with the other two titans and show Neil.

"What do you think of this one?"

Neil remains silent and scratches his chin for a moment.

"Impressive, but the devil guy took some risks there. I mean between the green guy and the blue guy, I think the green guy probably would have won even in melee against the blue guy big honking sword or no, but focusing on the green guy while blue was just hamering him could have left the devil with no ransom. There's always a risk of cutting in on another fight and ending up helping the other guy get an easy kill.

But he did make a good choice of focusing on the green guy if you look at it from a eliminate the greatest threat kind of view. Green had the most ranged weaponry even if he didn't have a melee weapon and a couple bursts from that big gun on his shoulder would have been devestating along with all the other guns he had.

But I goota say though that the devil guy seems like he's got talent. That or his titan is really good. I don't think I've seen a delta class just throw another titan in the same size class like that. I mean it's not exactly a genius idea, but damn if it isn't effective."

>Do you say anything to Neil regarding his comments or ask a question?
>>
>>2424334
I didn't know a titan could throw another titan since they're so damn huge and heavy.
>>
"I didn't know a titan could throw another titan since they're so dame huge and heavy. It was definitely satisfying to watch though, I don't think the blue one knew titans could throw each other either." Neil smiles and nods. You wre being partially truthful with your statement.

You speculated that you could lift another titan if you needed to. A titan's arms needed to be strong enough to lift itself off the ground after all, but you hadn't really considered that could just toss another titan quick enough to use it in combat.

>Do you ask Neil about other pilots, or ask any questions you may have about the tournament?
>>
>>2424391
ask him about the other pilots. It's cool that there's a guy like Neil that can give a run down of a fight instead of exclusively spurging about the. Then again it'd be hard not considering these are god machines.
>>
>>2424401
"What pilots have had a good showing so far, are there any you think will have a future in the tournament?"

Neil immediately grabs something out of his pocket and puts it on his forearm. It looks like a holo bracer of some.

"Already ahead of you, I started compiling as much information as I could about any hopefuls the moment the match started. I've been pouring over any good fight for the last couple a days and I already got a list for Polaris."

He taps several floating buttons and it looks like a little slide show forms.

"I got about six pilots that stuck out for me, each got about 5 kills during the first round alone. Real tough bunch."

"Only six?" That seemd rather low, there are at least 1000 pilots fighting in this round at Polaris.

"I know it seems kinda weird, but you know how it is with the edict. No using the titans for wars, and most nobles would never risk losing a bunch of weapons or their only titan in a duel.

I mean I keep track of duels all the time that come around here at Polaris. It's usually the same bunch just beating each other, but that's how you get experience fighting with titans. Just about everyone in the tournament is some greenhorn noble scion whose actually fighting for the first time."

You had lived your whole life in the shadow of a noble family with a titan. How on earth did you not know this? Then again you were just in seclusion working on Algol for over a decade. But dammit your over sixty years old how do you live serving galactic nobles and fighting across the galaxy as a mercenary without picking this up?

"I see you're alittle confused and I don't blame ya, thing about Titans is that most people just assume that nobles just duel and fued all the time and that Titans get used frequently, but they really don't. Most nobles are too chicken to risk their heirlooms on petty disputes even if they always find ways to throw shit fits. It doesn't help that the galactinet circulates all the duels that do happen all the time."

He waves you down. "Don't worry about it just listen here I'll tell about the hopefuls."

(1/2)
>>
>>2424444
"Okay here's the low down on who's who in this round"

"First up is that white kinda womanly titan that was just on. It's called the Caledbolg and it's pilot is some noblewoman named Alexndra Templeton."

Youn nod "Is she famous?"

Neil shakes his head. "Nah I've looked her up, and she duels apparently, but she isn't from this sector so I don't know her that well, apprently she's from some other sector in the orion arm but that's not important. What is important is that she's got some moves on her. She favors melee combat over range, but she can play defense like a champ. When it comes to trying to hit her it's like she just snakes around your attacks. It's really fucking neat you know? I'd say she's in good shape to move on to the second round."

Neil changes to another titan this time a massive broad shouldered bear themed titan in black and gold colors.

"Next guy is Horst Grimmly and this titan is Ursa Major, guys a vet, duels constantly. You see that oversized fist and that rotary cannon, those are his go to weapons along with all his other guns. Melee or shooting, he's good at both and his titan is armored beyond belief, He just shrugs off all kind of shit and doesn't even slow down. I'd say he would probably win the bracket tournament as well as move on."

Neil pushes another button and a third titan appears, this time a odd looking camo colored quadriped titan with no true arms, just lots of guns and missiles.

"This is the Thunderer and it's pilot is a guy named Ryuji Akashido. His Titan is built around just hammering you with long range fire all day long. Not much for close combat, but it's surprisingly agile. From what I've seen he's a bitch to fight if you rely on melee, fucker just won't stand still or let anyone get close."

Neil moves onto the fourth combatant, a rather undersized titan colored yellow and green with a eagle theme. A spear and oversized thrusters with missile packs are its visible weapons.

"This is Aquilon and it's pilot is Robert Highhall. This guy is all speed. His thursters basically let him fly and run circles around you. Spray lots of missiles and stab you in the ass with that spear of his. I can tell that his titan won't take a lot of punshment, but he'll be on you before you can get a chance to take shots at him."

He presses a button and two titans appear. One is a combo of grey and red and the other is bright gold. The grey/red titan seems to be loaded for bear with guns and has a nasty looking handheld energy cannon. The golden one looks wierd and has an extremely accurate and detailed human face and body. Its weapons are more melee oriented. It has an absoutely ridiculously massive hammer and on its back is a sword and shield alongside torso mounted weapons.

"These two are bitter rivals. The grey guy is Arthur Dorn in his titan Eternal Fortress and the gold guy is Ares Eustamachus in Priam. Both excel in their method of combat and they got some really kickass titans.

>>
>>2424488
I'd say these are the cream of the crop. I've seen some talent in the first match, but these are real fighters. They got a head start by a mile and I'd hate to be the poor bastard who has to fight them." Neil chuckles to himself. "It's gonna be real fun watching some poor greenhorn get pounded."

You mull over what neil has told you and nod your head.

"I agree. Thanks for showing me the top dogs, guess I know who to watch for now." Neil just chuckes some more beofre extending his hand to shake again.

"Hey it is real swell to meet ya Rickert hope you have a great time here on Polaris. I gotta run , Im gonna meet some friends soon."

You take his hand and thank him again for his time. He leaves just as your dinner arrives.

You watch more footage of the competition and the supposed top dogs, while you enjoy your meal. You contemplate your next course of action. You hate to admit it, but these veteran pilots are nothing to sniff at and the Templeton woman was very likely nearby when you first landed to fight. Best to be aware if one of them should approach next time.

Things to do:
>The uppermost section. It's where all the visiting nobles spend most of their time. Real swanky place

>The lowest section. Filled with engineers, gearheads and sailors. Not much for high culture, but there's still plenty to do.

>The upper-middle section. Most of the stations operations including the tourney commision are there. Not much for fun, but there are lots of fans and officials here.
>---Tourney office. See if they are planning any extra events or look at registration records to check out the competition.
>---Go to one of the lounges where fans meet up to get something to eat and try to get a feel for the local fighting scene.
>---look at the betting pools and see if you can't make some money.

>go see the vendors for titan parts

You electronically pay for your meal and exit the atlas club. You do a quick reference check to see who exacly neil is. Can never be too careful considering your occupation. The edict forbids using titans for war, but nothing about assasinating other pilots.

Neil Schultz, 89 CEO of schultz shipping and dry dock. Proxima pontifex, Paran system.

He's a shipping and space vessel producer. With money like that he will probably take a long leave of absence to follow the tournament for a while. It occurs to you that a Neil while still a ceo of a large company is most likely less wealthy than yourself, but possessing a titan requires an ungodly amount of wealth to begin with so you suppose it's not too strange.

As you think about wealth you remember that you still have ample funds even fter completing Algol.

While you enter a tram to return to your shuttle you decide to go to one of the artisan's orbiting the station to look for parts. You were lucky enough to build Algol's equipment as well as the chassis, but you don't have the time to create more weapons or equipment right now even with weeks between matches.

Time to dig into your deep pockets and get Algol some new toys.

What do you look for?

>Weapons (new weapons, and modified version of weapons you know)
>Equipment (modifications to Algol's systems or upgrades to current modifications)
>>
>>2425944

New weapons for algol would be useful, but your ransom filled out your empty hardpoints even if the single laser cannon the junkman possessed was rather anemic. The top pilots Neil showed you had exceptionally optimized titans. There loadout complimented their fighting style perfectly.

Algol will need overall upgrades to his capabilities if he is to stand toe to toe with these veteran titans.

>you approach a artisan ship that is selling titan equipment rather than weapons

Your shuttle approaches the artisan mobile fortress before stopping at comfortable distance. These deals never occur face to face. Artisans are notoriously paranoid that they may be kidnapped and forced into servitude for a noble house. They are justifiably paranoid because it does happen although most artisans are smart enough to keep their clients at arms length.

You signal the ship and send your request to view the Artisan's stock.

From your shuttle you see the side of the monolithic ship open. The yawning mouth of the mobile fortress is miles wide and deep. Within the hold of the ship is a trove of bright gleaming metal parts and titanic equipment.

Alright, time to look at the spread

Internal alchemical arsenal- An especially rare piece of equipment that transmutes standard ballistic ammo into specialized ammunition (must be declared at the beginning of combat).

Armor slayer rounds- -2 to enemy defense rolls

Volcano rounds- +d4 damage heat damage on successful hit per weapon (max 6d4)

Shatter rounds- Hit two opponents in combat at once.

You have an upgraded energy capacitor that provies a +2 damage bonus for energy weapons. The reactor core is a different upgrade.

For example a light energy shield an heavy energy shield won't stack, but a heavy energy shield and a shield booster that provides additional defense bonuses would stack.

>Means to earn more credits

Yes there are. Titans can't be used for war, but its completely legal to kill outlaws for bounties, and Kaiju hunting is a time honored occupation.

Dueling other pilots in exhange for money and not equipment is also possible.

Short answer: The first emperor of earth created the great tournament system to create a succession tradition.

Long answer:

About 4 thousand years ago, the first titans were created along with some other terrifyingly powerful weapons.

Kaiju, horrifying artificial lifeforms that could mutate and evolve on their own accord were created as well. They were able to reproduce asexually, move through space, and were the size of titans.

The noble families that owned titans terrorized their neighbors and wars between titan bearing factions resulted in the destruction of thousands of worlds and the death of hundreds of billions of lives.

This chaos lasted for a couple hundred years before the first emperor (a mysterious figure that no one knew the identity of) appeared with the single most powerful titan ever created. The titan known as Megas Deus. With the invincible weapon and a growing army of psychically controlled titans the emperor pimp slapped everyone and culled the Kaiju populations into managable numbers.

When everything was said and done the Emperor basically ruled the galaxy undisputed and proceeded to draft the THE EDICT the law governing all titans and their lawful use.

1. NO TITAN WARS EVER (or the emperor beats your ass so hard your descendants will feel it)

2.Dueling is okay but it has to be on a dead uninhabited world.

3. Kaiju killing is a-okay.

4. Outlaws and pirates in space are fiar game

5. you abide by the terms of a duel or face an ass beating

6.You pay tribute to the Emperor

7. When the Emperor doesn't feel like ruling anymore they hold a tournament and the winner becomes the new emperor (although they have to take a psychic clearance to make sure they're not some psycho) and take up the role of being the galaxy's biggest beat stick who enforces the edict.

You return to your fortress so you can pick up the armor plating you just purchased and you must admit the artisan did a bang up job. The atomic structure of this adamantium is impacable and the plating is modular. No need to spend weeks or even months trying to refit the armor you can just add it to the additional plating you got from the blue cyclopes.

Algol looks like he can plow through a planet with his new bulk. The extra shine the adamantium provides is just a bonus.

You retire to your chambers after installing your new equipment and look into the galactinet for some job offers and contracts for a titan pilot.

Captain jackass is a guy named Carolus Homer and the titan is called Hector.

Its a delta class titan with two shoulder mounted weapons, 1 torso mounted, and a two handed ranged weapon.

It doesn't have any apparent equipment, but the last guy who tried to kill the rampaging douche had to retreat rather quickly and so he might have some.

>>2426535
Unfortunately no. The original creators of the kaiju made them so hyper aggressive and destructive that they had no way to control them without lobotomising and piloting them.

The only way to safely make use of kaiju is killing and cybernetically reconstructing them into a quasi-titan.
>>
>>2426543
I am very tempted to make a kaiju monster, but maybe next time. when can we kill it?
>>
>>2426537
yep.

>incoming recording from Ronald Cartwight esquire.

The sound of grumbling is heard before you can hear the speaker say something comprehendable.

"-king cunt beast. Alright who ever you are it looks like you are picking up where I left off. The big bastard is a wandering kaiju that has already been attacking targets in space and on distant posts on uncolonized worlds and is getting closer to populated space every day.

The creature is tricksy believe it or not. Sly fuck seems to be able to cloak itself by warping light around itself and scrambling sensors.

Also it seems like it knows when to hide, because any time I drew a bead on the damn thing it flashed some lightning and ran.

The creature is smart and absolutely refuses to fight in anything less than a position where it is in control or has the element of surprise. That fuck mothering tail it has is also quite lethal. Damn near split my titan in half with it. But it didn't use it immediately even when it had the drop on me, so I can guess that the tail takes time to charge.

That's about all i can say. Hope you have better luck than me. Can't believe I passed up a shot at that..... daughter......

The audio soon fades out leaving you with an inkling on what kinds of tricks the kaiju seems to have.

>>2426557
>when can we kill it
Right now, I'm gonna cut to you landing and hunting the beast. Unless you want to do something else beforehand.
>>
>>2426568
Sure. I already have an idea on what to do, like paying attention to the local wild life or prints on the ground. Possible let it attach with the tale to side step and sever it.

The moment you place your neuro helmet on, you immediately feel a sudden rush of power. Algol's sudden evolution can be felt do to your connection. The new strength and feedback from your titan's limbs registers in your own limbs. The godlike might of a machine that defy's the laws of nature rushes through your body without restraint you feel your nose bleed a little from the greater intensity.

This is gonna be fun.

Like a meteor you descend upon a uninhabited jungle world with trees large enough to match Algol in size. No doubt the playground to some
ancient deranged artisan with a hard on for megaflora.

The apocalyptic descent of Algol from orbit clears all the brush and plant life for about 50 miles.

Scanning the surrounding landscape you don't see the kaiju. Which means it's either not here or its hiding nearby. Cartwight was gracious enough to provide the area the beast seemed to frequent most which happened to be this area due to the amont of megafauna it could eat to sustain itself and evolve.

Mission start!

What I meant by minus the tail, is that you are hilding it and therefore the beast can't swing it at you. It can only use its other melee weapons.

Surveying the steaming jungle on the edge of the crater you decide that a trap is the best way to take down this kaiju. Running blindly into the jungle will result in an ambush and with its sensor scrambling and cloaking combined with the excellent cover the mega jungle provides you don't like your chances of finding the beast without being on the backfoot.

You elect to dig a small hole in the ground to lower your profile, and use the broken and partially burned foliage to shield you from sight. There is a chance the best is alreafy here and has seen you but it's better than walking into the beast's gaping maw willingly.

Once concealed behind the charred and mutilated remains of the massive trees and foliage you wait. Hours pass but you do not move even an inch. You shut off all external light and heat sources and begin overcharging the weapon capacitors to ready a single, but instant barrage of fire the moment the beast is in sight. Your camers confirm that you weapon grow dim, the trademark blue glow of your plasma mortars die out and the hellish eyes of Algol dim.

Soon enough your audio system and seismic sensors pick up the approach of a massive titan sized object. The earth trembling at the loping gait of a true monster.

suddenly the seismic activity stops and instead very light movement follows. An imperceptible part of the treeline around the crater moves, but the ash of the crater reveal massive bestial foot prints approaching.

You cycle through your visual filters, but electrmagnetic, and thermal come up garbled. You know that the creature is in front of you inside the 180 degree field of view, but your sensors can't pinpoint the gargantuan abomination worth shit. If you didn't see the prints or detect the seismic activity you wouldn't even know the mountain sized creature was there.

You shudder inwadly at the idea that such a massive creature could be so suited for stealth of all things. Most titans could only manage concealment if they had complete cover and if their enemies didn't bother to scan thoroughly.

As the invisible beast approaches the center of the crater where you landed, you thank god that you remembered to cover your tracks. You doubt the beast would overlook them if they were present.

Just as the ashen footprints reach the center you draw a bead and fire.

(1/3)
>>
>>2426943
nope sorry. You did really good, but I want you to actually get a chance to fight the beast rather than kill it in the first round.

>fist upgrade
Also the cimproved fists would be a permanent mod that wouldn't take up a slot.
>>
>>2426938
>blade tail into a sword (2d8+2 strength+2 energy armor piercing damage)
>lightning claws to upgrade fists (1d6+2 strength+2 energy damage)

Would these synergize with the Heavy Duty Energy Capacitors if used at the same time?
>>
>>2426981
Seven barrel of hell open up on the invisible creature. The autocannon on your shoulder proves its worth when the hail of building sized bullets rip into the creatures shoulder. Gouts of lightning infused blood spray like hoses from the gaping wound.

The lasers do their work frying and boiling the creatures body. Electric fluids evaporating along with flesh with ease.

The real damage though is dealt by your trusty mortars. The energy stored in the heavy capacitors unleashed in the form of kilometer tall miniature suns that throw the kaiju from its feet and sear its body.

the scaled skin is flayed from its body and burns up upon contact, leaving exposed tendon and muscle tissue seething with neon colored blood.

You throttle your thrusters and make a mad dash to grab the beasts tail just as it begins to bolt.

Algol's massive clawed hands piercing and grip the giant armored blade-like appendage with godlike strength and even the beasts agony and terror give it strength you take hold.

Its cloaking gone you see its horned head lunge at you, red glwoing eyes sparking with crimson lightning. Its fangs miss as you partially throw the beast and side step its attack.

It swipes with both of its static wreathed claws, but you once againside step the beast, using the leverage of holding its massive tail to force its body away from you.

You readjust your grip, wrapping one of Algol's hands around the base of the monster's spine and pulling with every single ounce of might you godmachine can muster within his hulking frame.

The beasts froths at the mouth and stray bolts of lighting discharge into the jungle, the beast digging its claws into the ground and heaving to flee from your grip.

Just as you see the bone and flesh tear the beast with a demonic roar at last rips itself free for your grasp sending you flying through the air without its tail.

The beast sprints with such speed it looks as though it flys through the air and into the jungle its cloak reapplying itself just as it reaches the edge of the crater.

Kaiju Armament:
>2 lightning spikes (2d6 energy damage on shoulders)
can these be mounted onto the shoulders as part of pauldrons, or would they take up the shoulder gun areas? Or what if they are used to replace Algols Demonic Horns?

>1 storm cannon (3d6 energy damage in mouth)
I wonder if we can use this somehow. Maybe some usable power source in the chest cavity?

>1 set of lightning fangs (2d8 melee damage)

You rise from ash of the crater bitterly. You realise you bit the inside of your cheeks you were damn close.

But now the beast is alerted to you and although wounded it will now be unbelievably pissed. You are certain the creature not stop until Algol is ripped apart and melted into slag.

The jungle you fell leers malicously at you.

>you enter the jungle to pursue the beast.

what do you do in order to ensure you fight the creature.

>Burn the jungle until its not but ash. The creature will fight on your terms, this green hell be damned.

>move into the jungle and wait for it to approach then strike it. It can cloak itself, but you can detect it if only slightly with seismic readings.

(3/3)
>>
>>2426994
>energy capacitors
The +2 energy damage is because of the capacitors, the claws are perfect for conducting electricity

>>2427021
The other kaiju weapons save the tail or claws wouldn't really be uniquely beneficial. They could be converted into weapons for algol but they wouldn't really have any unique benefit or bonus over your other weapons, aside from looking different.

You could make badass decorations for Algol though with the teech and skin though and they would regenerate.

The monster equipment (which are basically bio tech) could be sold for a tidy sum to an artisan or another pilot.

>rip and tear your Kaiju guts

You enter the jungle, uncaring that the beast hides within, You move slowly through the mountainous foliage unabated. You stand in the midst of the great tree and listen.

It's faint at first, but you can fell the rythm. The beast is charging at you, slwoly building speed. It's erie how it's capable of hiding it's movement despite the high speed it reaches, but that doesn't matter. You allow the beast to charge at you from behind.

You can feel the rumbling through Algol's feedback. It's just a slight rumble, but it grows larger, when the lunge comes you are already there facing the creature.

CRACK!

Algol's might fist lashes out and shatters the beasts jaw with one mighty punch.

CRUNCH!

The follow up punch is a rip smashing uppercut. The beast's bones splinter and tear through its tender flesh fragmenting like shrapnel.

Now for the finale

While the kaiju remains in the air you grab it by its neck and sling it over your shoulder and you pull. You pull with every single damned fiber of your being. Your analog and mental commands put Algol's servos and artificial mucles in danger of tearing. Bloody sweat beads from your face from the strain.

It is done you rip the beast in two. Its blue blood and lightning producing organs bathe Algol in viscera and you revel in the beast's death screams. It's howls of pain and fear grow faint as you are knocked out by the strain of forcing Algol's limits.

You wake up in daze from exerting yourself. The beast remains dead in two pieces at Algol's feet. You call for the fortress to begin pick operations and you set to gather every shred of the Kaiju's body. To the victor goes the spoils after all.

>You collect every significant piece of the beast even its armored skin that you blew off.
