You had never thought in all your life that you would hate a Wednesday. It was supposed to be ‘hump day’ the day when things became infinitely easier on the coasting ride to Friday. But sure enough here you were at your desk for English, half paying attention to the lesson and more importantly reading through the file that you had brought with you to school hidden in a ‘Grey Ghost’ Issue #54. You had been reading three a day and that was the least of your worries.

Because in three more days you’d be dragged along to Flash’s place for a night of drinking and dancing and partying; All things you had never done before and if it weren’t for Felicia you probably wouldn’t have until college.

Good Grief.

Jaime Reyes.

Looking over his file it was honestly interesting. He was the most recent person to take up the mantle of the Blue Beetle. He was like you in a sense, costumed identity, wanted to help people, high schooler. Where it differentiated was that he had a host of abilities if the initial reports were to be believed.

And if they were to be believed he would be an excellent addition to the budding team.

You had already greenlit Zatanna, as having a dedicated magic user was something that might be a necessary evil due to the nature of the bloodsport you found yourself in. Another addition was Wally West, better known as Kid Flash. A speedster with a habit for cracking jokes just like his mentor it was evident he was rough around the edges and could probably use the team as a means of getting out from beneath the shadow of the Fastest Man Alive.

As for Reyes? If things came to it and you went bad, he would at least be able to take you down; While you hoped that might never happen it was always a good back up plan.

Setting the report down for a moment you return to your english work, more amazed that for the first time in your life schoolwork was a distraction and let you think about something equal parts trivial and worrying.

The party.

Odd, to say the least. You were still most certainly the social outcast that was more or less ignored by all other rungs of the social ladder; But there was certainly an air of tension. If you had to guess the news of your little altercation with Flash at the mall had spread and now people weren’t sure what to think. Combined with your new outfits there were plenty of heads turning, though now instead of insults it was the hushed voices of confused teens trying to figure out if you had always looked the way you were or if you were still the same old nerd with new clothes.

You even could have sworn you were getting more...interested stares, though those were quickly stopped whenever Felicia around. Which was strange in itself since after the raid on Mysterio’s den she had been noticeably distant. It couldn’t have been because of something you had done, could it have?

When the bell finally rings you simply sum it up to girls being strange.

Packing up your things you sigh in relief that the day was done and that hopefully you could spend the next few hours finishing up your reports and maybe do a patrol around the city. You never thought you’d think about it but having a secret identity was tiring; Always having to slouch a bit with your bag to make it look like you were having difficulty carrying it or tripping up because someone tried to trip you but you caught it.

Like now for example.

Feeling your Spider-Sense go off you see someone ahead of you and presume that sure enough it is going to be a trip when you feel something vaguely fist sized slam into the back of your head and due to the surprise of the blow you are sent sprawling to the floor. It didn’t hurt, nowhere near as everyone who saw it probably thought. Hearing the laughter you know for a fact who it is and sure enough you feel two calloused hands grab the back of your new hoodie and drags you back to your feet.

“Hello Eugene.” You say, making sure to sound far more pain than was true.

“And who said you could call Flash that Whitey?” The slightly nasally voice of Jason Ionello barks out before shoving you forward.

You grimace at the words.

You knew for a fact that you could run your mouth and no doubt stand up to the group of no doubt thugs. But at the same time you had already broken your ‘character’ at the mall and if you kept doing it you may start to draw more and more attention to yourself. Turning to face them you see Felicia near the back, however unlike before she was now quiet.

Looks like you were on your own for this one.

She probably expects you to do what you did last time, just mouth off and walk away. But that would be a mistake, and so you know what has to be done. You had to let them think that sure enough, it was just some bravado and that it wouldn’t happen with a large crowd.

“I-I just figured it was him you know? Y-y-you guys usually don’t do the punching.” You stammer out, trying to backup you feel that you are trapped; A ring of students having encircled you and no doubt excited for the show. With the last few days of awkward tension they no doubt were roaring for things to go back to the way they used to be.

“Well maybe I’ll just have to do more of it then.” Jason snarls, balling up his hand in a fist and bringing it back for a punch.

You flinch, not out of fear but to sell that it would hurt. You hear the fist fly and you brace yourself for the impact but when you hear the slap of it against skin it doesn’t connect. Cracking open an eye you see that someone has caught the blow.

And whoever that person was they were clearly female thanks to their...ahem, endowment.

“What the hell?!” You hear him exclaim, and looking up at the girl you aren’t sure if you are relieved or horrified.

It was Karen Starr; Or as you knew her: The Cadmus S-02X1 Codenamed “Power Girl”.

>>
>>2423171

It’s clear that she’s aware of who you’re supposed to be, or it least it seemed that way. Why else would she be here stopping a punch towards your person if she didn’t see you as important? Whatever the reason you now had a random variable in what should have been a very cut and clean lie.

“What’s your problem, Bitch?” Jason snarls, going to move his fist from her hand only to find that sure enough it wasn’t budging.

“I don’t know, what’s yours limp dick? Or are you just mad that he has more spine than you?” She taunts, squeezing her hand ever so slightly and you watch as the teen wince and back away.

“U-um T-thanks Miss?” You stammer, pleading with your eyes that she go with the idea for now.

“Karen.” She says with a tight smile before giving the group a glare that seems to make all of them jump, including Flash.

You quickly take your queue and scurry out of the crowd, practically running for the exit. The moment you’re out of sight you leap to the rooftops and sure enough not even a minute later Karen touches down beside you, her arms folded.

“So you’re the Spider-Man, huh?” She asks.

You nod. “The one and only yes.” You confirm.

The moment you do however she gives you the slightest hint of a glare. “I don’t see what Kal-El saw in you, letting the normals push you around like that.” She challenges, arms crossed.

You were worried about this sort of outcome.

When you had gotten to Power Girl’s file the the night prior you had found that Superman had left a note. Apparently due to her nature and purpose she lacked much of the ‘human’ experience seeing as she was born from a tube and spliced from a his DNA and what Kryptonian tech the lab rats had managed to replicate. This had left her with a slight sense of ego that the Man of Steel had wished for you to….help with.

But for now you had to confirm to her that sure enough you were her future leader; The only question was how?

No, we are explaining, not arguing with her. Unless we roll badly.
>>

The best was to explain it to her. “Look, I didn’t wake up the day I was born with these.” You start, thankful for Felicia’s limited guidance so far on ‘being yourself’ in that your voice doesn’t waiver as you confront someone who could easily rip you in half.

“I woke up half a month ago with them and in the same day someone tried to kill my Uncle. All those kids back there? They know me as a scared loser who couldn’t even do push ups right. Imagine if I start doing things ‘out of the ordinary’? Someone will notice, and if they are looking for that sort of sign they’ll know exactly who to come after.” You scold, and you can feel your muscles tensing.

“That doesn’t mean you should let them treat you like you are beneath them. One day you might save them and they’ll never know! Are you really going to be able to let them walk all over you for the rest of your youth?” She asks.

>Will you?
>A. No. But I have to be slow, I have to make it seem like I am changing, just not overnight.

FUCK YOU PEEJ
>>
>>2424324

In a flash your costume is on and you give her the subtlest hint of a grin.

“I dunno, going head to head with a Kryptonian doesn’t seem like such a bad idea right now. Can’t say most people would say that.” You respond, giving her the all too traditional ‘come hither’ hand wave.

Almost immediately your Spider-Sense goes off and you tilt your head to the side, feeling of the wind blowing past your head and sure enough there is a fist where your head had been. She was scarily fast, however thanks to your almost supernatural danger sense and reflexes you were in the clear. Leaping back you almost immediately regret the action as you remember that sure enough she can fly.

The impact of her shoulder to your midsection knocks the wind out of you and while you can certainly feel the slight weight of her very...feminine attributes; However that will have to be something to remember later as you are carried up and away from Jump and towards the rural hills of the valley beyond. Clutching your hands together you grunt, bringing them down on her back in an attempt to break her hold and to your surprise she lets out a moan of pain and releases you.

Now stuck in a freefall you snap the glider wings open and aim for the ground, making a note to never fight her in the air if you could help it. Though the question was on how you had manage to harm her; You had seen Superman have buildings dropped on his head and be nearly fine and yet a slight back blow had managed to harm her. Was it just she wasn’t as strong as the Man of Steel yet?

You’d have to find out later, for now it was back to the fight.

The moment you touched the ground you had to roll away as a scoring ray of heat cuts the ground behind you. The slight crackling is all you need to hear to know that the dirt had turned to glass and you realize that just perhaps pissing her off hadn’t been the best plan. Getting to your feet you fire off a pair of webs, catching Kryptonian Clone by the ankles before dragging her back to Earth.

All the strength of Superman, but none of the Tactical skill it seemed.

“I’m sensing a ‘but’ here.” You reply, already tense for the next exchange of blows.

Her grin says it all, but she decides to grace you with her voice regardless.

“But I guess that means I’m going to have to take this seriously.”

There is a thud akin to a cannon as she rockets towards you, arm cocked back and ready to strike. However unlike the last blow the few scant seconds you had before impact were enough to realize your earlier mistake. She was a brawler, using her neigh invincibility and unparalleled strength to simply overwhelm you.

She had all the strength in the world, but it was going to be the very thing you could now exploit.

Before you’re completely clear however you hook your arm with hers, and almost immediately you feel every muscle in your body go tense as the almost unstoppable is caught by the almost immovable object. Immediately releasing your grip on the ground you use the momentum of her moving forward to swing up and behind her. Pressing your knees into her back you fire off a strand of webs hopping off, your heels digging into the loose dirt as you momentarily ski across the ground.

Who boy Power Girl's about to Ride the Lightning
>>

Holding tight you feel your ankles protest as you stick to the ground and your shoulders begging for you to stop as they nearly dislocate themselves. Though this pain is brief compared to the result it gets you, as once the strands of web go taught all of Power Girl’s horizontal moment becomes rotational; With you as the centerpoint. Turning with the rotation you can’t help but feel satisfied when the teen slams face first into the dirt at full speed. You know she’s more than fine, however that still cautions as you move through the plume of dust.

For a moment you’re almost afraid that you HAD done major damage when you are pinned to the ground in a blur of motion. Every attempt to move is stopped and when the dust settles you find Karen straddled atop you, grinning.

“Mmm, What a rush. All the bots back at the lab were never as fun as you are; Spider-Boy.” She all but purrs and you can’t help but feel something run down your spine.

Seems Superman had forgot to mention just how Little she knew.

Stuck with nowhere to go you feel the rollercoaster of thoughts in your brain leave the station at Mach speed. You continue to squirm and struggle but the battle becomes less of a physical conflict but a mental one. As you tried to find out you naturally found your eyes desperately searching for a way out you discover that even that is a bad idea.

Because as quick as your brain was moving it was also noticing things it shouldn’t have. The first thing that filters through your brain is the depth of her deep blue eyes. With the slightest flecks of grey the only thing you could presently compare them to was your brief glimpse of Earth only a few days before. The actual surprise of noticing this mid battle causes you to stop your struggling for your moment. The Maiden if Might seems to notice this pause and the slight raising of her eye reminds you that you need to focus.

However tearing your eyes away from her was perhaps worse than just keeping eye contact.

You hadn’t noticed it before but up this close up it was hard to ignore the slight tears and cuts in the fabric of her clothing. And naturally or by chance they seemed to criss cross like a treasure map towards two very particular rises of slightly tanned flesh. It takes a full two seconds to process what is in front of you, though in the back of your mind you’d be guilty to admit that 1.2 seconds of that was just delaying before you slammed your eyes shut.

And here was the worst mistake.

After only a moment you feel the tip of her finger on your chest and a slight chuckle escape her lips.

“What’s wrong oh valiant leader? Your heart’s beating awfully fast. It’s almost as if it’s your whole body.” She muses.

...Oh no.

You snap your eyes open to try and give a panicked apology but all you see is a wide, knowing grin. There is no denying it, or attempting to hide what she was insinuating. And as she slowly gets to her feet and offers you a hand you can’t help but feel Superman lied to you.

She knew a LOT more than he thought.

Getting helped to your feet she says one last thing before ferrying you back to Jump: “This is going to be a fun team.”

It had been three days and yet now as you sat on your bed staring at yourself in the mirror you couldn’t help but feel the anxiety creeping up on you. It seemed that Felicia had a sense of humor when you were at the mall, as you were now dressed in an undone red button down, black undershirt and deep blue jeans; More or less a parody of your usual suit. When you had confronted her initially about it earlier that afternoon she insisted that it looked good and that the color association would make you more confident.

It certainly didn’t feel that way as you fiddled with your phone.

You were never really a social person, ironically enough the ostracization from Flash and the other cliques had made that issue far worse. Yet now here you were going to what many would probably consider a ‘stereotypical’ house party. Booze, girls, loud music and filled to the brim with kids with lowered inhibitions.

You’d take to it like a fish in concrete.

Feeling the thing buzz in your hand you guess that it’s Felicia, and sure enough the text that she’s down here flashes across the screen. ‘Well,’ you think to yourself ‘time to get this show on the road.’

It’s almost calming as you tag along in Felicia’s car, the music more or less tuned out as you do what you can to mentally fortify yourself. After a good fifteen minutes of driving the stop and go traffic of the city is replaced with smooth winding roads through the hills. If it weren’t for the fact that you’d be spending the night in a bizarre situation you’d find it calming. And then sure enough another five minutes later you can already hear the slight thud of bass speakers and any preparations you made were nothing in comparison to the rising nerves of what could go wrong.

‘We’re going to Flash’s Saturday.’ She said ‘It’ll be good for you’ she said.

Stepping out of the car you take a deep breath and think to yourself:

‘What would Spider-Man do?’

You needed a drink and for the first time in your life there was plentiful amount of it for you to partake in; Sure it was illegal technically but hey, it was a block party. It takes you a minute to find the punch bowl, having to have maneuvered to the kitchen without getting caught out by Flash or any number of his less intelligent goons. Much to your relief you manage to get there uncontested and after downing a full two glasses of the elixir you start to feel the slight buzz. This must have been what you’d seen online called ‘jungle juice’.

The hype must have been far overrated because you didn’t feel much more than relaxed at the moment.

Filling a plastic cup to go you decide to find a place to do what you normally did in these sorts of ‘school social gatherings’: Find a nice quiet spot to hopefully not be disturbed. Thanks to your uncanny balance and Spider-Sense you manage to keep your drink delectably full as you make your way to:

You remember seeing an outer patio area upstairs when you were entering and so make your way past drunken dancers, fumbling couples all but tearing each other out of their clothes and even a slight drunken scuffle before the stairs are finally in sight. You can swear you see Felicia with one of the Jocks wrapped around her finger but just as quick as you glimpsed it the sea of people obscured your sight. How could people call this fun? With all the noise and lack of space it was suffocating!

You decide that the last thing you need to do is hunt down your only friendly face in the crowd and instead retreat to the safety of upstairs.

Almost immediately it is far quieter as you round the corner and make your way down the hall. The occasional banging and groan of...something is not the most welcome replacement for the clamor downstairs but it was less constant. It takes you another minute before you figure out the way out to said patio, but you are no less thankfully for it.

Closing the sliding glass door behind you it is almost like walking into a whole other world as the sound of the party and cajoling becomes a far more muffled and distant problem. Sighing in relief you set yourself on one of the hanging benches and lounge, enjoying the cool night air and the sight of the moon beginning to reflect off the water of the bay.

You don’t even feel the thirty minutes pass as you lounge there, slowly sipping the punch down and simply trying to make yourself comfortable. The only reason the subtle and pleasant haze of slight drunkenness is lifted when you hear the glass window slide open. Turning to face the stranger you’re surprised to see that they are not only female, but someone you didn’t recount passing in the halls at school.

Black hair in a sort of pixie bob that cast shadows on almost porcelain like skin that was akin to the pure light of the moon itself. The only other thing that surprised you was her eyes; Deep green with flecks of gold that shone in the light. When your eyes meet she gives you a smirk, raising her own solo cup up in a toast.

“I don’t suppose there’s room for one more up here, is there?” she asks, her voice confident but clearly desperate for an escape from party.

“By all means” You say, sitting up and making room on the bench for your newest companion to sit.

She gives you a quick ‘thanks’ before closing the door behind her and taking a seat beside you .

“So, tall, dark and lonesome why are you out here all on your own?” She asks, her eyes doing a once over of your outfit. “Girls always love the whole ‘silent brooding’ routine.” She teases and you can’t help but chuckle.

“Do they? Is that why you’re here?” You reply, getting a soft joking punch to the shoulder

“In your dreams maybe.”

Normally you’d probably stammer out an apology but between the alcohol and joking climate you felt surprisingly...relaxed.

“Is that why you showed up just as I was about to fall asleep?” You taunt.

“Oh you’re dangerous.” She says with a smirk “A real Lady Killer.” She adds.

You roll your eyes.

“So, what brings you out here?” You ask and to your question you simply get a sigh and roll of the eyes.

“My friend Max got an invite to the party and dragged me along. Had enough of a bunch of drunk apes drooling over me and thinking they could try something.” She answers.

“Oh I’m Raven by the way, Raven Darkholme.” She says and before the words can even leave your mouth.

“Yes, yes like the Titan I know; But trust me, I was in this city long before she was.”

You can’t help but laugh.

“And you?” She asks.

“Alex, Alex White.”

The fact that she doesn’t immediately recoil confirms your suspicions that she was a stranger to you, seeing as your name usually lead to a laugh or spark of recognition. Given that this Raven girl had seemingly no clue was a breath of fresh air.

The rest of the party seems to drop away from the world as the two of you sit there and talk. You learn that she’s an avid fan of Grey Ghost and The Shadow, which was a first to you. In turn you share with her some of your more embarrassing stories from summer camp, which manage to get plenty of chuckles and smirks.

“Really? You were thirteen years old and on a panty raid?” She asks, skeptical; To which you hold up your hands.

“Hey, hey they wanted a lookout! I didn’t WANT to be there.” You argue.

She just gives you a smirk, and you realize just how close she had gotten to you over the what? Hour, hour and a half you had been together.

“Keep telling yourself that, Cranston.” She says, resting her head on your shoulder.

“I will, Lane.” You asure.

“For only The Shadow knows!” The two of you say simultaneously, and that causes both of you to burst into small fits of giggles on top of each other.

“I’ve got to say, this beats getting wasted and being crammed on a dance floor.” She says after a moment, and you nod.

It was certainly strange, how comfortable things were here compared to what you probably would have had elsewhere. What was it? Why was this...okay? Was it normal.

You weren’t sure.

She seemed okay with it, slightly leaned into you with her head on your shoulder. But to you it was bizarre, you never had female...friends? Companions? It was something you had always lacked due to the constant target on your back from Flash, yet sure enough here was Raven; More than happy to spend the evening away from the party and to instead be with you.

There’s no harm in it, you were enjoying her company and her yours. And almost as if you appreciate your answer to your internal questing she presses slightly closer to you, and after a moment's hesitation you decide to rest your arm around her shoulders.

“Is there...any particular reason you’re doing that?” You ask, only to feel her satin like hair move as she turns to look up at you.

“You’re warm, and comfortable. Do you want me to stop?” She asks quietly.

“N-no! I-uh I mean.” You stammer, only to see her smile.

“Oh good, that jock side of you is just the booze. Got worked for a moment.” She says in relief before returning to her makeshift nest in the nape of your neck.

It isn’t for long however as after a few minutes you hear the sound of heavy, stumbling footsteps and a very recognizable voice yell out.

“Thitthhhttyy Whitey! Come out, come out whesheber you are!”

It sounds like Flash is coming, and fast.

You hate to disturb the girl but it seems she can feel the underlying tension. Looking to her you down the rest of your drink before asking her:

“Well, seems like the party is coming to us; I don’t suppose you’d want to go somewhere more private?”

She raises an eyebrow “Well what do you have in mind?” She asks.

“Would you believe me if I said the roof looked lovely this time of evening?” You say, half joking and half serious as you make your way to the veranda.

For a moment it seems as if she’s completely unsure what to think of your statement, however when another call for your name comes out she grins.

“It seems wonderful.” She says before sidling up beside you. “Give me a lift?” She asks.

You nod, bracing yourself and putting your hands together and within a moment you feel one of her worn Vans press into your hands. You’re thankful for your enhanced super strength as you slowly push her up, however as she just starts to pull herself up your spider-sense goes off. Looking over to the glass window you see that sure enough Flash has entered the connecting hall and spotted you, his silhouette slumped revealing more of the group you had mouthed off to a week before.

And they were getting closer.

With Raven already up there you decide to put on the gas a little, sticking yourself to the roof before pulling yourself up. Throwing yourself onto your back you pant to upsell the effort it took, as below you the sound of Flash’s insults continues to an empty street.

“Not bad, what are you? Some kind of gymnast? One of those cheerleading guys?” She asks as she peers down at you, her face coming into view frames by the black of her hair and the curtain of stars behind it.

“Oh that? No, no.” You chuckle through the panting. “I just have a extreme allergic reaction to getting beaten up in front of beautiful women.”

She gives a slight smile, and you feel your brain go fuzzy for a moment. It was an odd thing, that you had been with the girl for at least an hour and yet never really payed attention to her facial features. Which was especially surprising considering she had been in such close proximity to her for much of that duration. Sure you had noticed everything at first glance but seeing that smile clicked something in your brain.

You had seen it before, but where?

“Beautiful, huh? No one's quite said that before.” She says, and even though she’s only a scant two feet above you it feels like she is right in front of you.

You feel your Adam’s apple drop as you gulp at the insinuation.

You go to speak but all that comes out is a stammered jumble of consonants and verbs and part of you can’t help but ask what’s wrong with you? Not even two minutes ago you were able to flirt with the girl like it was no issue but now you were back to your usual socially inept self. Was it the change in position? Was it just the underlying tension that had been there, subconsciously building in your head and only becoming realized now?

You weren’t sure, but like a bolt of lighting her voice cuts through the fog.

“You’re a strange one, you know that?”

“W-what do you mean?” You mutter.

Her smile disappears, not because she stopped the action but simply because it leaves your field of view. You watch as seemingly on slow motion as she leans down, your heart catching in your chest for a moment in surprise. At first you weren’t sure WHAT she was going to do but when she stops she’s hovering only a few inches away; Her face taking up almost all of your view.

It reminded you of that scene in ‘The Prowler’ movie, when the protagonist hung upside down from a grappling hook to talk to the major love interest.

“I’ve seen a lot in my time.” She says softly. “I’ve seen how all sorts of people, good bad and ugly. And yet you...you’re something that I didn’t expect from the stories.” She says before adding. “Not that it’s a bad thing, not at all. I’m just surprised.”

“And uh...what surprises you?” You ask.

The look she gives you is...you don’t know how to describe it. If you had to give your best guess it was somewhere between sad, interested and…awed.

“That for all that happens to you, you are still innocent.”

So she did know, she just didn’t let it effect the evening. You weren’t sure if that meant she understood it, but maybe if she did it was only fair to explain how you had remained ‘pure’.

“When you go for eight or nine years being the laughing stock you you have two real options: let it break you or rise above it.” You reply, tilting your head just enough to keep her in view. “Sure it isn’t great, but things have been changing and for once it’s starting to look up for me. Now that doesn’t mean much to you I think, because these changes would have come no matter who I was before them; But what matters is...well.” You chuckle, thinking about it. “It’s stupid.”

“What is?”

(Cont)
>>
>>2431552

Looking up at her, at the deep green orbs of her eyes you know that you had to tell her. But how could you? How do you explain to her that you ran into a mass murdering metahuman who had powers similar to your own; And that every other person you had met so far was some shade of morally corrupt. And that you were now or going to become just like them if you didn’t stop whatever it was that now had a hold of your immortal soul.

When it finally comes to you it is surprising.

“I could have been Flash. And I know that sounds crazy but having been his punching bag for so long I’ve learned things here and there; And sure I am the nerdy one and he’s the jock, but that doesn’t mean he has his own problems. He let them overwhelm him and became the way he is now.”

She frowns. “And you think that if you let what he’s done overwhelm you that you’d be no better?” She questions.

You nod.

There’s an awkward, long silence after this moment; Broken up by her coming to lay down beside you.

“You know, even if it was just a quick excuse to get away you weren’t wrong. The stars look lovely from here.” She says, her voice distant in wonder.

And after finally prying your eyes from the woman beside you she’s right. There were no clouds in the sky and with so few street lights the stars bloomed above your head. And hanging just to the lower left of your vision was the crescent moon on its silent rise through the heavens.

She wasn’t wrong certainly, but before you could even stop yourself from uttering the words they escape your lips.

“I don’t know, sure it’s breathtaking but it doesn’t compare to you.”

You could hear a pin drop, if it weren’t for a glass shattering downstairs and shouts of surprise from the party goers at the result. For a moment you’re afraid that you had said too much, but as you’re going to say something, you feel something warm and soft trail the veins of your arm to your wrists. You’re about to ask what it is when her hand slips itself into your own. Out of instinct you curl your fingers, noticing as you do so how much smaller it is in comparison.

But there is no need for words, you think. In that moment whatever it was, whatever kindness or incorporeal force that had drawn you together was irrelevant. All that mattered was you, your new...friend and the stars above you. And for the first time since your explosion onto the superhero stage as Spider-Man, your life felt strangely normal.

It was...nice.

You lay there for what must have only been a few minutes, ten at the most and yet it had felt like hours; Tracing your thumb along the back of her hand as you both seem to take in the movement. What you’d normally think would call for a tornado of thoughts and worries instead it was the opposite; With you wanting to say something but being unwilling to disturb the tranquility of the moment.

And you think that maybe, just maybe she thinks the same.

However as with all good things it must come to an end, and this time it is not by the sound of a drunk Flash, but of police sirens. No doubt the neighbors were sick of the large population of teenagers nearby and as you prop yourself up to see where they are coming from it’s evident a mass exodus from the property is happening as yells of ‘Cops!’ Spread all over the street.

“Looks like we gotta run.” You say softly feeling her squeeze your hand.

“You got an idea?” She asks “As far as we are up here they might not find us.” She points out.

And while she does have a point and in all honesty you wouldn’t mind spending all night with her this way; It may just be a nice excuse to get away from the party and back to civilization. Looking around you see a number of trees and an idea comes to you.

“I got an idea, if you’re willing to take a leap of faith.” You say.

“Are you saying we’ll jump?” She asks deadpan.

Oh right, she didn’t have reinforced bones.

“I’ll catch you?” You ask innocently as she rolls her eyes.

“Hope I don’t break your ankle then, slick.” She teases.

“I promise I won’t get a handful.” You reply back before getting to your feet.

Taking a few steps back you prep yourself. You knew you could make the jump no problem, but you had to make it seem hard. Taking a relatively slow jog to the lip you jump and thanks to some rather fast drunk math you manage to make it look as if you barely made it; Your hands curling around a branch halfway up the tree. Shimmying over you make a show of hesitating a second or two as you make your way to the lawn.

The hard part was over, and ignoring the moonlit beauty of the woman looking down at you you open your arms to her.

She seems to hesitate for a moment before jumping down and into your arms, and once again you have to make it sell. Tightening your grip on her you start to kneel and twist, almost dipping her low as you turn the downward momentum into rotational force.

“Hello there.” She says with a grin “I didn’t think you’d be sweeping me off my feet at a party, slick.” She jokes as you set her down.

Looking back you frown as the sound of sirens continue to grow louder.

“Looks like we’re gonna have to go our separate ways, I gotta somehow sneak back to the city. So uh...maybe we’ll hang out some other time?” You ask.

“Count on it.” Raven promises, starting to run off into the night. Seeing that she’s sure enough out of sight you can’t help but feel some inkling of sadness, but at the same time you no longer had to hold back you take off in a sprint; Leaping and flipping over white picket fences and horrifyingly pink flamingos.

It takes you another ten minutes to finally get back to the city proper, where Web-Swinging became a viable thing. Finally getting back to your apartment you see that a lot more time has passed than you had realized; And that your jog home had been more of a midnight one than you realized. As you changed and made yourself ready for bed you can’t help but think one last surprising thought:

Felicia had been right. Maybe Flash’s party had done some good.
