Calera was a world of jagged mountains, ancient forests, and deep, dark seas. Its skies were black with storm and pollution, its waters caustic and tainted. The planet itself was an obstacle to be conquered, the miasma of Necrotic corruption gripping the ecosystems and twisting the life into warped mockeries in the most toxic of areas.

Yet underneath the poison, the cancer of rampant Necrotic pollution, the planet and its lifeforms resonated with the songs of the Void. It had been hard to hear at first, the cloying nature of the Necrotic deafening the would-be Voidknight to its music. Now, as the weeks have passed and the Disciple studied the nature of Calera, uplifting members of its native children to become Voidsingers themselves, the song was now apparent to them all.

Calera seemed that it was a world that once sang with the Void, somehow naturally resonant with its energies, and in turn influencing the path of Lifes evolution.

Then the shard of the broken Necrotic God crash landed, its taint scarring the land but not consuming it. The stories, passed down by the native Itru, spoke of how it it shattered a mountain, the waters that flowed from it toxic and foul but the Itru in time learned how to restrain the spread of the corruption.

However, with the coming of the Wormstars corpse, came the tattered remnants of its followers. Weary as they were from fleeing a lost war, their damaged ships, foul technology, and necromancy proved too much for the pre-industrial Itru to resist. Drawn by the siren call of the Necrotic artifact the renegade Necromancers took it for themselves and from its power built the Council of Thirteen. Bolstered by the lingering power within the shard their grasp tightened around the planet, choking it under a miasma of Necrotic corruption that muffled the Void.

The Wayward Disciple, in their time stranded on this world, had come to suspect it was only the planets resonance with the Void that prevented the Necrotic taint of the Wormstars corpse and its worshipers pollution that kept its ecosystems from collapsing. The compatible natures of the Void and Necrotic constantly in the process of fighting and balancing each other out on this deadly world.

They found it most fitting, that their mission would take place on such a world, a warped mirror of the perfected symbiosis of Void and Necrotic that formed their very being.

The Wormstars corpse had corrupted this world, but the Council of Thirteen had made it the diseased landscape it was today. The Disciple vowed to themself that they would be the one to help this world find a proper balance, going beyond even their stated mission of recovering the corpse-shard. They realized it was why they were brought to Calera, beyond what the twisted role the Masked wished to make them play.

They were the Wayward Disciple, created by Voidknight Lorgul and charged by Lord Jadyk himself. They would either succeed or bring the entire planet down with them out of mercy.

Today we are dedicating a special thread to the Wayward Disciple during which we will catch up on what they have been up to while we were distracted with various invasions and elemental phenomena. It'll be kind of a loose thread where we touch on various subjects while deciding and rolling for certain key moments.

Wayward Disciple forces:
Having to hide from the ever searching gaze of the Council the Disciple has been forced to take their resistance movement quite literally underground. Fortresses manned by Reconstructed are built underground in caverns and at the sea floor, each constructed around a biomass farm or mine. They stuck to the wilderness and wastelands, far from the cities that spewed forth tall columns of pollution. Cloaked Coffins travel between them, a constant string of supplies flowing between them. However they were always watchful for the shadows of the Councils mutated War-beasts in the sky, the creatures seeming to have a talent for sniffing out the hidden craft.

The frigate that had transported the Disciple to this world lay in wait within the largest fortress, built into a grand cavern carved by the seas. It was from there that the Disciple commanded their forces across the planet and nearby systems. They were reluctant to build sub-capitals, relying on stealth craft to observe the planet with Eyegores exploring neighboring stars.

During their time on Calera they had taken from Jadyk's lessons, recruiting and enslaving the living that would be of assistance. Among the native Itru they discovered brethren, uplifting them, and in time several humans and vorh, to become Voidsingers. Among those freed in previous attempts were founders of a resistance movement against the Councils tyranny and symbiots quickly made them valuable allies as the Disciple used their influence and connections. Council soldiers were captured and implanted with symbiots, their minds assaulted by a barrage of psychic influence as they slept to awaken them to the truth of the Council and their lies concerning Jadyk and the Wormstar.

Living prisoners/allies
>10 Voidsingers (mostly itru with humans and vorh)
>160 Freed slaves and commoners
>100 Enslaved soldiers

Reconstructed:
With the construction of the Deep Rot Relay the Cauldrons have access to all modern technology of the Armada. However, without a member wielding the Solar or Arc, technologies related to them were unattainable. In the short weeks they had been here the Wayward Disciple had been busy at work stockpiling and hoarding Reconstructed troops, most of them kept in storage in their fortresses scattered across the planet.

When we last had seen the Disciple they had just foiled a seeming search attempt by the Council's military to sweep through a densely forested mountain pass where a hidden village of people who had fled the tyranny of the Council lived in peaceful secrecy. Serving as one of the first field tests of the Specter Reconstructed they had slain or captured all of the soldiers in those darkened woods but not before the villagers discovered them.

The Disciple had left the village alone to itself but Gargoyles sent to spy on the military base the soldiers had originated alerted them to the arrival of special Council forces in the form of a pair of Warbarges. Further recon showed that these craft were deployed from the Councils floating city itself and contained a pair of Necromancers sent to investigate the disappearance of an entire platoon in a single night.

Now, as the warbarges sail just over the canopy of trees they move at a slow pace, allowing the tanks and vehicles following in their wake to keep up as they progress into the forest. Trees topple before their march as tanks rumble and spew smoke into the air as carrier vehicles were packed with soldiers, the flying scouts counting several hundred total with a dozen tanks. The Gargoyles could detect many Necrotic signatures on the barges and even spy the shadows of deformed figures through the glass portholes and windows.

It would likely take them over a day if they kept to this pace but they would inevitably discover the hidden village and bring ruin down upon them. The Gargoyle spies had seen the extent of the villages armory, decades old rifles that were likely more use as cudgels, along with a collection of spears, bows, and crossbows most likely used only for hunting. It would be a slaughter and a mockery to call it warfare the Disciple knew.

Secluded from major military outposts with the largest being the one that just emptied its garrison to accompany the barges, this force was isolated by several hundred miles from any reinforcements. The Warbarges bristled with weapon ports, the barrels of cannons extending from the screaming faces that decorated the dark hulls. The Gargoyles could detect a Necromancer on each barge, the Wayward Disciple realizing this was likely one of the best chances to capture and interrogate a Necromancer. This was an event that the Disciple had been waiting for some time, dedicating a Think Tank to a cruel research in preparation. They also knew that the village would no longer remain hidden for much longer, the potential loss of these Necromancers sure to bring the hammer of the Council down upon this nearly untouched land.

How should the Wayward Disciple respond to this event?

Spitballing here.....

Evacuate the citizens from the secluded glade, set up a trap with the reconstructed and a few of the voidsingers.

Do we have any heavy weapons we could use to incapacitate those Warbarges?

Else, use the fact that they've emptied nearby garrisons to infiltrate and enslave the remaining members of those villages/towns and bring a large cohort of civilians and some military personel under our control, such that we can seize control over the returning troops at a later date.
>>
>>2461752
...Do we know of any internal scheming among the 13 or their forces? If we could make it seem as if one of the 13(or more) are trying to waste forces for their own ends, that could not only buy the village more time to potentially relocate, but also weaken our enemies with mistrust. This would only work if they are not a unified council, but more akin to the most powerful representing their own best interests.
If not, then we should try to separate their forces, especially their battle barges. Once we capture one of the necromancers, we can be less careful with the rest. Maybe if we set of some kind of explosion in the wilderness, it would get enough of their attention to split up(if we made it a necroticly based one, then it would certainly peak their interest, because the only apparent options would be that the natives have been diddling around with the necrotic, or their is some unsanctioned necromancy going on).It could also give credence to the theory that one of the 13 or their underlings is fucking about in the wilderness, since it would be unthinkable for the natives to advance that far in necrotic tech.

Aww yeah, there he is. By the way, I still want to terraform the Netu a new home world someday. Is that possible to do even with our current tech level? Could we transform a barren, rocky world into a world thriving with life with the perfect conditions for Netu settlers?
>>
>>2461793
Not with the Armada's current tech however you have made good strides in that direction

The Armatocere Collective however has demonstrated this capability, one of their nearby star systems having a planet in the middle of such a process
>>

>>2461787
This anon has the right idea. Evacuate the village, when they stop to investigate/raze it, ambush them

>>2461807
We gotta get on that sometime in the near future. Netu from around the galaxy would flock to us to take advantage of our offers and terraforming partnership with the Armatocere.

And the Armatocere would be all for it, right? They're the type that are all too glad to foster life where they can?
>>
>>2461752
>>2461805
So evacuate the village, try to separate at least a battlebarge to secure a necromancer, and eliminate the rest
>>
>>2461752
Plan seems to be:
>Evacuate hidden village
>Lay an ambush for the military
>Attempt to separate the Necromancers and capture one

Additionally, should they send stealth forces to infest the now mostly empty military base and the surrounding village with control worm symbiots?

With how long it would take the Warbarges to move with the ground troops the Disciple knew this was the time to act.

First deployed was a Coffin that landed near the village hidden in the collapsed cavern system, the cloak fading from the vessel as it set down with a flurry of wind. Their passengers, a handful of symbiot implanted living, disembark with a demi-Think Tank and several Reconstructed. It takes thankfully not long for the villagers to emerge from hiding without an exchange of weaponsfire as they approached.

Several hours pass before they are thoroughly convinced after demi-Think Tanks show footage from the Gargoyles shadowing the procession heading toward them. More Coffins arrive and most of the villagers board the shuttles with little complaint but plenty of fear as they put their trust in these new, strange undead and the living that worked with them. There were a few hold-outs refused to join them, wishing to die in the village they had built but with the help of their relatives and sturdy Reconstructed they are escorted aboard.

With the village finally emptied and the populace traveling under cover of stealth toward the Disciples main fortress to join the others living under their protection, the Reconstructed begin preparing the village and landscape for their approach.

New population:
>320 Living residents

Over the night they prepare and by the time the sun and risen to its highest point behind the near perpetual cover of clouds the Warbarges and their escorts were nearly upon them. However, as they neared where the Armada forces had hidden missile-pods and large Reconstructed waited for their orders to attack large doors on the underside of the barges open allowing gunships to drop down and take to the air. The sputtering of their engines rumbled in the air as they take off ahead of the group but they are quickly answered by a hail of missiles and rockets that leap from the forest toward them.

To the credit of the gunners the newly unveiled strikecraft quickly shot down many of the incoming attacks but they were overwhelmed and forced to draw back toward the barges after several plummet to the forest as balls of flaming wreckage.

With the ambush spoiled the Warbarges quickly ascended higher above the canopy and began opening fire on the forests below with beams of crackly green energy that cause trees to wither and vaporize with flames leaping up in their passing. More missiles leap from the cover of the forests, along with a sudden barrage of artillery fire from hidden Crawlers but the armored hull of the barges withstand the assault at first.

The Council soldiers and vehicles quickly form up into defensive positions, the troops scattering into the woods at shouted orders and train their weapons on the dark forest. They did not have to wait long before the booming steps heralded the approach of Brutes crashing through branches before they burst out into the open with bellows of rage charging toward the vehicles.

The gunfire and tanks managed to hold them back at first, but soon the Reconstructed rushing past the larger undead and dropping in on wings and jumppacks disrupted their defensive lines in a brutal repeat of the previous forces. Radio and comms were jammed by several Coffins that remained cloaked nearby, preventing them from calling back toward the base.

As the soldiers fought and died on the ground the Warbarges began setting fire to the mountainside, seemingly to burn out anyone hiding within as their gunships flocked around them like vultures.

A detonation rocks one of the warbarges as missiles strike its side, the offending Armadan Gunship dropping its cloak along with a multitude of other strikecraft that seemed to appear out of midair and began to swarm the pair of flying ships. The air was cut by screaming bolts of energy and streams of bullets, missiles and rockets exchanged as ships burn and fell to the ground below.

Despite the efforts of the ships the warbarges remained nearly side-by-side, protecting each other as they began to withdrawn back toward the safety of the military base and village already being infiltrated by Specters, Shadows, and Looms.

The Wayward Disciple watched the battles unfold from a cloaked Coffin following the barges. With a sigh they step up toward the cargobay door which slides open, wind suddenly whipping around them and the contingent of Void Centurions waiting behind them. It would seem that for the mission to succeed they would need to personally step in to capture these wily Necromancers.

It was by random choice that the Disciple selected which barge to assault, a doorway appearing out of midair to let them leap out followed by a squad of hand-crafted Centurions and Specters. With Voidlight wrapping around them they land heavily on the ship and waste no time opening fire on the crew milling about the open-air deck. Void-Screamers and Flayers rip into the misshapen humanoids that turned to face them, the assault sudden and fierce.

It was the first time that the Disciple had seen proper combat since being transported to this distant star system and they found themselves relishing the chance to fight once again. Now face to face with them it was clear to see just what entities the Necromancers surrounded themselves with. It was plain by the way they withstood damage and attacks that would slay the living, these mutated humans and vorh were undead but they reacted with an intelligence that surprised the Reconstructed hero.

Despite their use of weaponry and the defenses of the Warbarge the Disciple led their squad toward the beacon of Necrotic force and finally break their way onto the bridge. The twisted human sitting on a throne of flesh did not wait to exchange pleasantries, instead leaping to their feet to launch a bolt of crackling green energy toward the Disciple.

The battle was brief and bloody, the duel between Disciple and Necromancer ending as a Specter fades through the wall the human found themselves pinned against and cleanly slices an arm and leg free of their body. Their prize secured and carried by a Centurion they quickly set the Warbarge to crash and escape to a Coffin that flew in close to retrieve them.

During their time below decks the other Warbarge, seeming to witness or sense the fall of their comrade, peeled off and began accelerating toward the military base while abandoning those still engaged with the Reconstructed. Armada gunships and Nails pursued but they fall back as it races faster and faster toward the base trailing fire and smoke from various injuries sustained during the attack.

Within the forest the Reconstructed slaughtered and reveled in the massacre. Tanks were left mangled wrecks by the fists and weapons of the Brutes, vehicles smoking or overturned as the Reconstructed picked through the aftermath while gathering and implanting the survivors and those who attempted surrender. Those unfortunate Reconstructed to fall in battle were gathered, their biomass and metals fated for the Cauldrons and remaking into new forms. The Disciple was not yet ready to reveal the existence of the Reconstruct to the Council.

The rest of the human corpses were strung up, impaled on broken branches and trees to create a grotesque scene for whoever was sent along next to discover what befell them. It was plain that many had been chewed and gnawed upon, bone and flesh sporting the marks of where the injured Reconstructed had feasted to heal their wounds.

Success!

Captured:
>1 Council Necromancer
>120 Soldiers

Secondary Mission Success:
With the main forces of the military base vacant the stealth Coffins containing Specters and already implanted soldiers were easily able to land and deploy their passengers. Over the course of several hours the remaining commanding officers and over a dozen soldiers were implanted with Control Worm symbiots and brought into the fold.

A Coffin containing a Cauldron is deployed and hidden in an empty barn at the edge of the small town that grew around the military base, the old human and vorh couple easily implanted as a screen. Reconstructed quickly dig into the earth to hide the shuttle and valuable asset as more symbiots and stealthy Reconstructed are created to secure the Disciples foothold.

From here the Disciple is capable of spreading their influence into the military. From the officers minds its determined that the Warbarges were of the Knight's forces sent to investigate the potential for enemy actions. It would seem from the words of the Necromancers that the Knight expected the attack to be at the order of the Countess, their intense rivalry known across the planet.

When the Warbarge and surviving Necromancer returned to the base they were welcomed with open arms, the base thrown into high alert while the Warbarge landed to commence repairs. However, the heightened security was a ruse and proved to be of no aid as a group of Specters rise up from the floor and through the walls, their flickering blades cutting the Necromancer down on their own bridge before they could react. It did not take long for the undead, no without a guiding mind, to fall to be slain by loyal soldiers and Reconstructed
>>
>>2462360
Once they return to the main fortress the Necromancer was secured and the slain Council undead tossed into Cauldrons for study.

The Wayward Disciple had kept up to date with the technological progress of the Armada and was well familiar with the knowledge that so far Armada techniques at control unloyal Necromancers had failed. They knew that symbiots and domination spikes alone were not enough to compel their service and as such they had assigned a Think Tank to craft an instrument of cruelty to meet their eventual need to break the will of a Council Necromancer.

Item unlocked:
>Penace Array - A remarkably cruel device born out of a dire necessity and a drive to succeed at any cost, this creation was developed with a mixture of Domination, Glutton, and Symbiot technology. Centered around an enhanced Spinal Tap symbiot fusing to the target, they are then implanted with multiple Domination Spikes. The captive is then forcibly outfitted with a modified exoskeleton adorned with Glutton crystal attuned to the targets energy signature. Dubbed the Prison Armor by the Wayward Disciples living followers the combined technologies proceed to break the will of the captive until rendered compliant through the use of pain aversion, mental tampering, and drug cocktails. Their bodies broken and rendered addicted to the symbiots and requiring Cauldron brewed biomass as fuel they are unable to remove the exoskeletons without killing the captive.

Oh boy! Now we can get some serious Intel, both from the Necromancer, and from officers that we will steadily infect.
My overall idea for a plan is to infect more and more officers, and figure out where the Wormstar fragment is. While we plan on securing it, we could try to stoke any enmity between the 13 Council members so that once we capture the fragment, they fall into all out civil war. Once only a few bloody survivors remain(preferably ones that could submit to Jadyk/the ones easiest to kill) we can fully emerge and wipe them out. This will depend on us being secret for as long as possible, potentially helped by any of our attacks being blames on a council member.

It had only taken a week before the Necromancer, a human by the name of Luron, broke and renounced their loyalty to the Knight and Council of Thirteen. He had knelt before the Disciple, the exoskeleton containing their broken form designed to look as if oversized versions of the spikes implanted into them were impaled through their form like spears or arrows. The symbiot could taste the shame within him as he spoke his words, knowing he could never return to the Council.

From this single Necromancer an array of knowledge of unlocked. The Council was a fractured and perilously supported institution, their petty rivalries and squabbles nearly leading to outright civil war over the centuries if not for their shared hold over the Wormstar fragment.

Among this knowledge were rituals practiced to create and enhance their undead that the Think Tanks eagerly prepare to share with Jadyk and Necromancer Jor.

Necrotic Rituals unlocked
>Ritual of Ossification
A Ritual that uses nearby biomass as a sacrifice to turn the target undeads flesh into an exoskeletal armor of bone. One of the built in rituals of the Cauldrons this ritual allows Necromancers and sufficiently strong enough Reconstructed to use nearby biomass to reinforce or repair the armor of friendly Reconstructed units. Can also be used to repair sections of a vehicle or ships armor.

>Ritual of Shaping
Crudely referred to as Fleshsculpting this profane ritual allows the leading Necromancer to mold and sculpt with flesh and bone the way a sculptor may shape clay. With the ritual making the physical form pliable and weakening the bonds that hold their shape in place the Necromancer can telekinetically manipulate the biomass to reshape it how they please. Additional biomass and even specially prepared metallic ore or devices can be added to the subject. While the ritual can be used just as easily on living subjects as corpses or undead, in the hands of an inexperienced Necromancer it will more often than not lead to the death of the subject. The Cauldrons use a version of this ritual but the Shaper Necromancers of the Council have perfected a cruel version that improves the survival rate of living targets with slow, gradual additions, a process that most often results in the shattering of the targets psyche.

Additionally, from this Necromancer Luron the Disciple was able to force them over the next days to search among those in their control and awaken their Necrotic potentials.

The rituals were not the only boons gained from the Necromancers forced loyalty. Underneath the armor and robes they had worn was a fullbody garment similar to skinsuits worn by many space-faring civilizations but this was quite literal in being unliving skin preserved and sustained by the Necromancer. Another was a hidden weapon masquerading as a simple deformed bone. With his aid and the Think Tanks analysis the Cauldrons have unlocked the beginning of what the Necromancer called Fleshsculpting technology.

Fleshsculpting tech:
>Skinsuit - Named quite literally this fullbody outfit consists of necromantically preserved skin tissue that is worn as an innermost layer under regular clothing or armor. When fully sealed it functions as an enviro-suit, providing protection against everything from airborne contagions to the vacuum of space, negating the need for bulky suits. Capable of long-term wear the suit derives nutrition from its host and is capable of self-healing minor damage. Chitin armor plates can be added to provide a minimum of protection although the skinsuit is commonly worn as the base layer under powered exoskeletons.

>Bone pistol - Most commonly used as a self-defense measure by the human nobility of Calera this weapon has seen use among assassins and criminals. In most species this weapon replaces a portion of bone typically in the forearm, torso, or jaw. Superficially similar to the larger Bone Rifles, with a muscle spasm the wielder can protrude a piece of bone through their skin, or chitin, and fire a shot made from bone. Typically only comes with a few shots before the body must produce new ammunition, wielders with a chemical fabricator implant can produce toxic or caustic rounds adding to their lethality.

Research started:
>Fleshsculpting: Medium, potentially dangerous -
By using the Ritual of Shaping gained from the Council Necromancer Think Tanks throughout the Armada have begun experimenting with various ways to utilize the new skill

With the Necromancer broken and working with the Think Tanks the Wayward Disciple turns their focus to the task of destabilizing the Councils hold on Calera. In order to do so they turn to the rebel cell they had freed from the prison, one of the very founders of the current generation of resistance fighters plucked from Council captivity. It was to this vorh they turned in particular, the Control Worm secured to her spine revealing secret cells of like-minded rebels, slaves, workers and others disenfranchised by the Council's tyranny.

Born a slave to the human supremacist Council she had led a minor successful rebellion in a factory-town, overthrowing and killing the Necromancer overlord. However, she had been away from the town on a mission to gather support when the Council city itself had arrived and destroyed the town.

The memory of the sight, of her family and life-efforts, everyone she had helped free, reduced to a vast crater of melted glass and slag that glowed in the dark of night, was burned into her memory. The rage that welled up inside her each time she thought of it, of seeing the city drifting away into the clouds as her whole life was eradicated before her, had impressed the Disciple.

A being born of the Voids indignant rage itself, the Wayward Disciple sympathized with her fury and swore that they would work together to ensure the Council suffered. When she pledged her loyalty to them and the distant Lord Jadyk her symbiot could detect complete sincerity and honesty to her words without any manipulation from the Control Worm.

She and her cohorts have been dispatched across the continent, traveling by stealthcraft to link up and unite the isolated rebel cells under the Wayward Disciples influence.

Actually I wonder: can we build a "containement room" for the shard ? So as to hide it's MASSIVE Necrotic signature.

This way, when we steal it we can hide and watch as the Council blame each other and devolve in civil war, only to come out of the shadow and crush them all. Maybe we can even capture some of them to bring in shackles to Jadyk.

The vorh resistance fighter gathers members of the living freed or taken in by the Disciple and they depart aboard stealth Coffins. They split up to travel across the continent and spread the word of rebellion and unite the various disparate cells already working against the Council's domination.

Initially the groups had trouble tracking down and locating the resistance cells, many forced to go underground or disband due to increasing pressure from the Council forces. The Disciple had been warned by the vorh woman that uniting them all would take time, but by the first weeks end there was finally some progress as the first cells were located.

From here they could only wait for the roots of their insurrection to grow deep and spread wide. With the aid of Cauldron forged weaponry and tech the Disciple knew the resistance forces would be more effective than ever before.

Calera was not just the extent of the Wayward Disciple's attention. The Council of Thirteen was at war and the Disciple had recovered evidence of this conflict after raiding a military convoy and recovering a portion of highly advanced robotics far beyond anything seen in the Confederacy or even the UON.

Interrogation revealed that a strange civilization of synthetic lifeforms was the source of the sample and the Council's great foe. Intrigued by this mutual enemy of the Council the Disciple had ordered Eyegores constructed and towed into orbit by shuttles and dispatched.

Two star systems were scouted and the "Synths" fully witnessed for the first time. Their starships traveled between their worlds and bases, witnessing domed cities and mining outposts throughout. Eyegores in high orbit over populated worlds peering in secret across the landscape observing the Synths.

Most noticeable at first were the inorganic creations, seemingly robotic creatures built with startling sophistication working tirelessly in their tasks. Each one seemed custom built to their task, from colossal earthmovers to clouds of small flying entities that swarm throughout their cities.

At first it seemed the largest of their cities, each carefully designed and arranged to best compliment the natural terrain, were bustling metropolises. Most were even built in temperate areas that would be comfortable for most organic lifeforms. However, it became clear after days of observation that the typical organic lifeforms that would live in such cities were absent, the population seemingly composed of these synthetic entities.

If not for the near constant harassment of Council forces and the scars of previous battles staining their worlds these Synthetics would appear to be peaceful, if odd, colonists. However, this allowed the Eyegores to watch these conflicts from afar, learning much about both factions.

It was in one of the earliest outer space conflicts between the Councils warships and the Synths that a shocking capability of the inorganic defenders was revealed.

Crackling indigo Arclight raced along the hulls of the narrow spire-like ships of the Synths to leap off and strike the Necrotically powered ships of the Council. The Disciple had wondered how the highly advanced Synths could be stymied by the Council if they dedicated themselves, but after seeing how effectively the Necrotic fueled weaponry of the Council leveled the battlefield it became clear.

With this knowledge the Eyegore began scanning for elemental signatures and discovered various sources of Arc energy, pointing that this faction had a solid grasp on its mysteries.

A source of Arc energy would greatly help in unlocking the technology that required it, allowing the Disciple to use even more of the Armada's current technology.

How should they proceed regarding these Synths?

And as a reminder, the stats for the discovered systems

>System: Meiv-Ak

>Star: Medium Blue

>Planets:

>Rocky World: Tidally locked close to the star it's surface consists of either a blighted airless landscape on the day side and a frozen wasteland on the night. There appear to be mining or science outposts stationed along the temperate ring.

>Haak: A Synth world that appears to be moderately colonized with several large cities mainly gathered along the temperate equator. From long range surveys and radio interception its revealed the planet is a common target for the Council's attacks with numerous cities shown to be abandoned or razed. The larger of its two moons has a sizable naval port with several construction and repair pylons dotting its surface.

>Gas Giant: A smaller than average gas giant with a handful of moons that house fuel harvesting operations and a small naval base.

>Frozen world: Possessing large ice rings it lingeres at the edge of the solar system and seems mostly forgotten with only a handful of outposts detected on the surface protected underground.

>System: Deste

>Star: Orange Giant

>Planets

>Rocky Worlds (2): Non-descript worlds with toxic atmospheres of alternately methane and chlorine there are nonetheless multiple mining operations on their surface or underground.

>Ymuv: A large world with a dense core and gravity appears to to be in the midst of terraforming operations as megastructures placed across the planet spew massive clouds forming an atmosphere. Across the planet were several domed cities, the refractive energy protecting them shielding from the Eyegores persistent gazes. Storms raged, new seas and lakes being forms as patches of green and blue life grew along the edges, tended to by what were assumed to be caretakers to guide the terraforming. A single large moon nearly a third of the planets size has a growing naval port for the Synths fleets that patrol the system. Both moon and planet show scars from previous conflicts with the Council.

>Rocky world: A large, airless planet that, along with its handful of moons, shields Ymuv from the dense asteroid belt. Either from it's own mineral wealth or gained from meteors, the planet has numerous mining operations and domed cities.

>Asteroid belt: Likely the remains of a broken planet the asteroid belt is fairly dense with mineral deposits detected throughout. Harvester ships of the Synths are present, consuming the asteroids for their ore that is transported back to the rocky world.

Eager to get a hold of more samples of the Synth tech the Eyegores begin searching for the wreckage and debris of previous battles not yet being picked over by salvage ships. It would appear that the Disciple inherited the same curiosity as Jadyk when it came to new technology, but for the would-be Voidknight their intentions were purely to further their own mission.

Several new oversized Coffins are constructed, each containing a Combi-drive and extra cargo area. Rising from the seas they are sent into the depths of the star system to await the signal to begin their salvage, the Pilots and Reconstructed on board going to a state of hibernation in their waiting.

It takes several days before an ideal opportunity arises as the Council launches a fierce assault against a shipyard on the largest moon of the mining world in the Deste system. An Eyegore drone was luckily, relatively, close by as flashes of green light and Necrotic bursts mark where an attack force emerged from FTL and races into combat with the picket fleet.

An alert is funneled to the waiting Coffins and their engines flare to life before they too disappear. The battle carries on, the Council ships clashing with the Arc-powered ships of the Synths for a few short hours before they begin to retreat with the defenders chasing after. Pulled away from the moon a quarter of a light-second they finally make their escape but not before ships on both sides were damaged or destroyed.

The combi-drives of the specialized Coffins let off minute flashes of Voidlight as the spheres of energy at their prows flicker out and drop them from FTL. Moments later the sheath of Voidlight around the ship is replaced with a cloak of displaced light, allowing the now stealthed ships to accelerate toward the battlefield.

Several Synth ships remained behind while the majority turned to make their way back for emergency repairs as salvage and tug ships were already being deployed from the same moon. Confident in the capability of the stealth cloaks the Coffins moved slowly into range of the largest Synth ship to go down and secure themselves onto the hulls and unleash Talons and Gargoyles into rents of the hulls.

Inside they quickly begin exploring the strangely compact hallways, barely large enough for the scrawny undead to maneuver through. With the lack of obvious life support and strangely cramped interiors it was clear these ships were not built for a crew in mind. Expecting to find defenses on board it came as both a lucky and unlucky stroke that it appeared the Necrotic attacks had rendered the ship completely powerless.

Almost ready to withdraw after prying loose pieces of the ship and drawing them into the Coffins there is a flicker of an Arc signature detected by a Gargoyle. Following the energy almost like a predator drawn to its prey by a powerful scent the Reconstructed discover what would have been a proper room if the walls hadn't crumpled in, collapsing half of it from a weapons strike.

The first synth "bodies" were found, an assortment of configurations among the bodies causing some confusion as they begin picking through the wreckage floating in the zero-gravity. At first the Reconstructed expected them to react but even as they were prodded or moved they remained motionless and unresponsive. Several are collected and dragged back to the Coffins but as they forced a large piece of wreckage to float off and crash silently into the far wall the Reconstructed discover the source of the Arc signature.

To the Disciples surprise as they observed the operation it turned out to be a pair of signatures. One was a device that pulsed with a weak signature of the Arc, it's damaged frame barely secured to the floor by twisted plasteel, the other a Synth body latched onto it with cables linking them to the device. The body was humanoid in the vaguest of senses, but it was clear it had sustained damage during the attack, its legs(?) twisted into useless stumps where it had likely pried itself free.

After a close inspection showed that neither the synth or device was reacting to their investigation they quickly cut the devise free of its mooring and move both through the narrow halls toward the awaiting Coffin. The Think Tanks in charge aboard the shuttles did not want to sever the cables linking them as Arc energy was circulated between. Once secured the first Coffin detaches and takes off, still under cloak and fires up its combi-drive to disappear as the rest of the Coffins continue their search.

Research Gained:
>Synth Technology: Medium - Various samples of tech and hardware salvaged from a Synth derelict

>Synth Arc Reactor: Fast - It appears that the Synths have a capable understanding of the Arc element, creating weapons and technology that revolved around it such as a portable reactor similar in form to an Arc Condenser

>Arc-powered Synthetic: Unknown - A vaguely humanoid Synth recovered from a wrecked

>cont
>>
>>2467469
(not sure why that cut off but)
>Arc-powered Synthetic: Unknown - A vaguely humanoid Synth recovered from a ship wreckage that appears to have an Arc energy source

However as the Coffins departed it appears to have alerted the sentries left behind as a flock of strikecraft suddenly swarms around the bulk of the wrecked ship toward where it had disappeared into FTL. The pair of Coffins remaining behind kept still, the Reconstructed still inside the wrecked ship holding motionless. The strikecraft swarmed around where the first Coffin had disappeared for some time before breaking apart and starting sweeping scans across the area.

Prepared to take off immediately the Reconstructed rush back to the safety of the shuttles, leaving behind the larger pieces of salvage they had attempted to bring. A sensor blips as the Coffins detects a sensor sweep over them but a moment later the strikecraft swings around and other quickly respond and begin grouping around and training their weaponry on the area the Coffins were hidden.

A moment later there is a broadcast, directed toward them in multiple frequencies but the language that crackles out was completely unknown to the Think Tanks who quickly begin attempting to decipher it. They do not appear patient as a scattering of burning fragments of metal they used as anti-missile chaff are launched at a far slower velocity, dusting across the hull and finally striking the distorted silhouettes of the Coffins and a new wave of broadcasts wash over them as the larger Synth ship draw in overhead.

It appears the stealth Coffins have been discovered but the Synths have not attacked and appear to be attempting to hail them.

How should the Disciple order them to react?

>Attempt to establish communications and allow the Think Tanks time to decipher their language or find a common language

Keeping the cloak wrapped around the Coffins they nonetheless send out their own broadcast in response with a repeating message of peaceful intent cycling through various known languages. The contacting ship, now revealed to be coming from the larger ship now in position over the hidden shuttles, secures an audible hailing frequency allowing the synthetic voice of the Think Tanks to speak with them in their own strange language.

It takes a thankfully short amount of time before they seem to recognize a derivative of the ancient Netu language and from there they send their own translation code corresponding to their own language with a speed that only confirmed their artificial programming. With this coded key the Think Tanks translate the message they repeat upon the mutual understanding.

>Language unlocked: The Synth language shows some similarity to records of ancient pre-Necrotic War languages that were assumed long extinct

"Unknown vessels, you are intruding upon restricted territory. Reveal yourselves and your intentions or you will be deleted."

With how their weapons trained on the still invisible shuttles the Disciple knew they were not bluffing. After a few moments of thought the Coffin replies in their language and the artificial voice of the Think Tanks, "We are explorers new to this sector of space. We have been attempting to ascertain a method of communication but have been reluctant to reveal ourselves due to the hostilities," they reply while keeping the cloak wrapped around them.

Their response is swift, "Both Necrotic and Void energy sources are detected aboard your vessels. A third vessel was detected departing, leading to your discovery. Reveal yourselves and prove you are not of the Council of Thirteen or face deletion."

How should the Disciple respond to their demands:

A mix of
>Reveal themselves as enemies of the Council and
>Be truthful
Explain how we ended up here via a freak experimental accident and found ourselves on a hostile planet. We are currently set on dethroning the council and have no malevolent intent towards you guys. We are attempting to removing an item of the council's(DONT SAY WHAT) that is preventing them from engaging in civil war and is their main source of power. We could coordinate our efforts to weaken them(maybe even pretend our communications are from a council member/members to kick-start a civil war).
Do not mention that we are related to the Old Armada in any way(no Jadyk or Ghul), at least until we know whats up with these guys. For all we know, what they view as their imperatives could be anathema to ours. We could be the first to broach our good intents by giving them a piece of our Arc tech, free of charge(the relationship boost it will give us will be well worth it).
I am hoping to be allies with them. Zombies, plants, pirates and robots: the Dream Team.
>>
>>2468378
I'm all for this. We have no reason to be hostile to them, and any ally in our mission of purification (and being Bloody Magpies).
>>
>>2468378
I have forgotten but do we know our relative position to the rest of the armada? Like how long will it take us to get back once we have the shard? We should consider the perils of transporting such a thing through what I assume is multiple sectors.
>>
>>2468418
I assume we should transport it in stealth transport, and while spending the less time possible in Sub-FTL speed
>>
>>2468500
Ah the classic conundrum, a stealth transport might pass unnoticed but if found or intercepted it will not be able to defend itself but on the other hand a heavy escort might draw the attention it would otherwise have avoided.
>>
>>2468512
Route it through armatocere space. The other factions Do Not Fuck With Cacti.

>>2468378
Yep like I said we need to know if their hateboner is against the council or against all necrotic forces. It's not certain that these are the same crazies we fought before
>>
>>2468544
I actually think we should dispense with the stealth transport completely and just go with a heavy escort, simply because the masked are likely to leak the route to every player they have and take bets on who manages to steal the shard.
>>
>>2468766
Damn, good point, the Masked do love their schemes. Wouldn't put it past Aka'Tor to be able to sense it somehow and send her servants after it either, considering she consumed a large portion of it's might in the past.
>>
>>2468795
We should go with a multi-layer approach.
Decoy convoys with different routes, heavy escorts and meeting them half way.
>>
>>2468819
Don’t know how effective decoys would be against either Aka’Tor or the Masked, but it’s not like our fleets are doing much other then patrol, so may as well. Heavy escort should be fine as well. Maybe send one of the senior generals to meet it halfway. Lorgul I guess? He’d probably want to see his old Disciple anyways, unless we have him on some project I’ve forgotten.
>>
>>2468896
>how effective decoys would be against either Aka’Tor or the Masked
I fear it will not just be Aka’Tor who will come looking.
>>
>>2468896
In regards to the Masked, I doubt that they will too much to stop us once we have got the Shard. At that point, we bested the challenge and gained our prize, though that doesn't mean that they wont throw a...complication our way, just that they wont tip off an other faction.
As for Akka-Tor...as always, she concerns me the most out of any faction. I think she could make a grab for the Shard, but she has her sights set on a bigger feast: us. At this point, she wants to consume us, the issue is when she will strike. One option is when we visit the World Tree(we were finally invited ), as she has a habit of fucking up our parts with plantbros. Once we plan our visit, I recommend getting some simple Talon to tell some high ranking Armatocere that it(we) need to talk discreetly, and tell it to relay a message that we would like to bring a fleet with us to the World Tree. Not actually "with us" but it will goon a different path and stop a system away, so that if The Bitch really has been watching us and waiting, we will be ready. There is also the issue of her bigass ship. IN a vision, we saw some of those with the Sunscale kill the Wormstar, so maybe we should ask the Blackscales about it, since it will likely be just as dangerous as The Ho. Last, we should have our ships equipped with more anti-wraith capabilities.
Akka-Tor is waiting, she is watching, she is hungry.
>>
>>2469195
Remember that the masked aren't a monolithic organization, they each have their favorites and some aren't above being sore losers. They aren't likely to give other factions the whole story, but are perfectly capable of telling them we are transporting something important and challenging them to take it from us.
>>
>>2469274
I know, I was simply the overall effect. Lets say that some Masked do tip of another faction so they will try to steal our shit. Another Masked who supports us will likely give us a tip in response. The challenge was to get the Shard and bring it back to Jadyk. It seems like poor form to immediately throw up another challenge with the reward being the thing we just earned. I can see the sending an enemy our way, but they would likely put up another reward if we beat them back.
>>
>>2468378
>I am hoping to be allies with them. Zombies, plants, pirates and robots: the Dream Team.

Oh man that would be great. They have a hate-boner for necrotic energy it seems and the undead in particular, but maybe they can be convinced we're different.

>>2468544
>Route it through armatocere space.

Speaking of the Armatocere, they might be good advocates for us. Maybe they can talk to the robots and convince them that we're not omnicidal like most undead/necrotic factions have been in the past.
>>
>>2471314
Or, we could trade for a small arc reactor from the synth or failing trade, take one and use it to make arc based technology like the linking gates and teleport it instantly our capital
>>
>>2471319
I doubt we can build an arc relay in the near future. Those have to be in space IIRC, and we don't control any space of our own.

If we're talking about making an arc relay that can reach all the way back to the rest of the Armada, they might as well use it to roll in and secure all the Council territory while we're at it.
>>
>>2471359
Probably less time than it would take to build a fleet capable of protecting it, plus we could begin building it but in parts so once we ha e control of the planet we need only assemble and ignite it

He'll I think we should build a bunch of ship pylons but leave them inactive deep under the water or in hidden hangars
>>
>>2477064
Either way we need to securize a pact with the Robots if we want access to the Arc. Their tech look advanced too, I think the only reason the Council is even able to hold against them is the vulnerability of Arc against Necrotic.

Can't believe I forgot my name lol

So last we left off was when several specially modded stealth Coffins were dispatched to scavenge whatever useful tech or intel they could from the wreckage of the so far unnamed Synth starship. Wrecked during a conflict with the Council of Thirteen the ship seemed to provide a perfect opportunity as an Arc powered device and robotic entity were discovered and retrieved. Now en route to the Wayward Disciples base it appears the Synths were able to detect the departure of the first Coffin and quickly discovered the other two left behind.

As Synth reinforcements crowded around the still cloaked ships they sent out hailing frequencies, from which the Think Tanks were able to decipher their language, and established contact. Demanding to know who if they served the Council or not the Synths threatened to attack if they weren't satisfied with the answer.

Looked like most of the suggested replies consisted of:
>Reveal themselves as enemies of the Council

How truthful should the Wayward Disciple be regarding their mission and ties to Jadyk and the New Necrotic Armada?

>How truthful should the Wayward Disciple be regarding their mission and ties to Jadyk and the New Necrotic Armada?
Not yet, at least not until we can confirm that the Synths don't have a systematic antagonism towards necrotic entities and their conflict with the council is of a mundane nature like competition for resources or territory.
>>
>>2478976
Do not mention Jadyk or the Armada(New or Old). If they ask specifically, then we can tell them, but until then, its better to start relations on a black slate.Tell them that we are attempting to overthrow the council and are doing in covertly with the intention of stealing the source of their power which would decrease their threat exponentially. Maybe we could coordinate our moments to make them think that one of their own is working with them?
>>
>>2478976
Truthful when asked but don't go spouting names other than the new necrotic Armada who believe in peaceful coexistence with the living.

Other than that let them know we arrived in the sector by random chance after a malfunctioning ftl engine and upon seeing the state the council has rendered its world with its corruption have decided they must be stopped And it's people freed

Seated in their throne of bone and sinew the Disciple taps their fingertips together in thought for several moments before their words are translated into the Synth language and sent out in reply, "While it is true our vessels do utilize Necrotic energies, we are not of the Council. Rather, we are foes of the Council of Thirteen, likely just as you yourselves are."

There is a few moments delay before they respond, "We requested proof. Elaborate on your opposition to the Council."

"We originate from a distant part of the galaxy but found ourselves stranded in their system after a malfunction with an experimental FTL engine. We have witnessed the corruption and destruction the Council has wrought on their own worlds so now we work to undermine them and their empire," there is a pause before the Disciple questions, "We must know, do you oppose the Council of Thirteen, or any Necrotic or Undead force?"

That question seems to give them pause, several minutes ticking by as the Synth ships maintain their positions with weapons locked onto the cloaked vessels. Finally a message is beamed back to them, "The Council of Thirteen is not the first Undead enemy we have faced. Merely the current. By your words and further scans we deduce that you are indeed an undead force similar to the Council, however no Council technology has utilized Void based technology, nor stealth capabilities.

"We repeat, reveal yourselves or face deletion. We will not carry on this conversation otherwise."

Arc energy begins to crackle along the narrow tines that seemed to serve as the weaponmounts of the Synth strikecraft that formed a semi-circle around the drifting hulk of a starship where they hid. After a few moments there is a ripple of light as the pair of Coffins seem to materialize where they were clinging to the hull, landing struts shaped like crustacean limbs securing the shuttles firmly as the Disciple speaks through the channel, "There, we have revealed ourselves. As you can plainly see, our vessels are not of the Councils and do not possess sufficient armament to be a threat to you. We are indeed an undead faction directly opposed to the Council with the intent to cripple and destabilize their empire.

We have no quarrel with you, merely trying to gain information in a sector of space far removed from our homes. Caution has been a requirement for our survival. War with anyone beyond the Council of Thirteen is beyond our concern."

As the minutes pass the Wayward Disciple begins thinking they will have to replace the pair of shuttles. Finally a voice crackles out "It is true you do not travel in Council designed ships. However, knowledge that you are also an Undead faction does not bode well for your case. Ever since the time of the Grand Necrotic Armada the forces of Undeath have been a constant scourge upon the universe."

Ready to detonate the reactors of the shuttles the Disciples command is stalled as they continue their message, "You state you are opposed to the Council of Thirteen and work to destabilize their strength. How would you accomplish this task?"

"Our plans are many but currently we work to sow discord among their citizens and slaves and help them break the chains the Council has forged around them. My master seeks to-" the Disciple was cut off by the voice.

"We care little for motives. The Council is a threat to the stability of this sector of space and our own goals. Why you fight the Council is of little importance to us, however your technology and understanding of other undead may prove useful to us in our conflict with them," a series of coordinates is transferred, indicating one of the largest structures in the systems asteroid belt, "Send a representative to meet with ours here. Do not bring weapons and come unstealthed."

Almost disbelieving their words the Disciple responds after several moments, "Very well, we will send someone to meet with you," they say as the strikecraft surrounding the shuttles back off to allow them to take off while still training their weapons upon them, "What should we call you?"

There is a moments delay as the Synth ship drifts by, its engines sending off streams of Arc bolts kilometers long as it passes, "We are the Transcendent Protectorate. We are waiting."

Once the Protectorate ship passes by the Coffins detach from the hull, the Reconstructed having returned during the discussion, and accelerate away before firing up their combi-drives to disappear into FTL.

>The Transcendent Protectorate wishes to meet with a representative, seemingly to discuss the mutual aggression against the Council of Thirteen

So am I the only one who thinks a synthetic easily manufactured source of arc energy sounds like just the thing to unleash on the empire

Considering they call themselves a protectorate I would assume they where built as a defence so are hopefully not interested in expansion of their territories so long as we intend on removing the threat of the council they should be.. hopefully non aggressive regardless of our undead status
>>
>>2479282
Build a harbinger no energy core base bare but containing a bluegoo device designed to destroy the harbinger should they attempt to seize it.
>>
>>2479231
To meet with this finally named Transcendent Protectorate the Wayward Disciple has several choices to proceed.

How should they attend this meeting with the Protectorate?
>Attend themself
>Create a Harbinger to speak for them

>"We are the Transcendent Protectorate. We are waiting."
Eugh, they sound pretentious. I doubt we'll be able to befriend them when all's said and done, since I doubt they'd trust any faction led by a member of the old Armada.
>>
>>2479295
Send a harbinger

>>2479301
I assume due to previous dealings they are just awaiting for our inevitable betrayal or worst case scenario, waiting for us to destabilize the council enough for them to come in and take over when we are fighting each other
>>
>>2479295
>Create a Harbinger to speak for them
This isnt our Wayward Disciple overcoming his Great Trial, this is table diplomacy. While our general can be skilled at other kinds, i'd prefer to keep stuff like this to us, Jor, Rethak and maybe our special snek.
>>
>>2479327
Fairly certain it will still be the disciple speaking through the harbinger not Jaydk
>>
>>2479295
Looks like it's:
>Create a Harbinger

Now to clarify, Jadyk will not be able to channel himself into this Harbinger and will serve as the Wayward Disciples. Without the construction of a proper Deep Rot in this sector of space, not just the Relays already in use, Jadyk would not be able to establish that deep of a connection to use them.

Deploy the Harbinger and attend the meeting now?

There is a ripple of gravetic force and a flash of light as a single Coffin appears on the outskirts of the same system by the next day on Calera, the shuttle accelerating toward the asteroid belt and their destination. It did not take long for a pair of sub-capital sized ships to rapidly approach and form up to escort the vessel toward the belt.

Deep in the midst of the belt a large asteroid was home to a moderately sized port that doubled as ore refinery and naval base. Warships moved in tightly controlled patrols but the Coffin and its escorts go unhindered. A message is beamed to the shuttle, "Your arrival is sooner than expected. Please follow to the designated hangar."

On the base itself lights illuminated around the entry way of a hangar, the doors sliding open but a faint shimmer of energy remained in place. The shuttle cautiously approaches and passes through the energy barrier without harm and settles down on a platform highlighted with gently pulsing lights. The hangar was empty of other vessels but it was not unoccupied. A multitude of synthetic entities were arrayed in the chamber, many of them easily classified as being intended for warfare by their heavy armor plating and unmistakable weaponry. To the Disciples relief they merely seemed to be watching, weapons powered down.

A group of synthetic forms approached, in their motley collection only a few resembled the one taken from the vessel. They halt and stand a respectable distance from the Coffin as its cargo bay door opens as the newly crafted Harbinger descends the ramp.

Jadyk would find the Harbinger perhaps a bit too brutish for his personal tastes but the Reconstructed was designed by the Wayward Disciple and reflected as such. While it carried no visible weapons the humanoid form was obviously armored to resemble the Voidknights but less imposing, the eyeless skull much like the Disciples own but without their iconic helm. They possessed no energy core but Voidlight does ripple briefly across them, the Disciple infusing a minute portion of their power into their creation. A demi-Think Tank drifts after them, its typical necroflenser armament removed for the meeting.

Standing at the end of the ramp they give a bow although were uncertain if the gesture held any meaning for the Protectorate, "I am a Harbinger. I speak with my masters words and my words are theirs. This Harbinger comes unarmed, seeking to establish a peaceful accord."

A singular synth steps forward, humanoid in form, but unlike the others its "head" consisted of a flat panel of rippling colors that quickly shift into a facsimile of a human-like face, "Welcome. I am of the Transcendent. You may call me Cipher, I have been selected by my peers to converse with you in place of the others, this very vessel crafted for this conversation," their hand makes a short motion and a moderately sized table with chairs materializes out of hardlight between them, Cipher taking a seat and motioning to the other, "Sitting down feels more formal when discussing these matters."

The Harbinger looks to the hardlight constructs, the Reconstructed unable to detect where the projectors were but as they take a seat with the demi-Think Tank floating next to them the rest of the synths that joined Cipher on the platform stood back where they had originally waited. Cipher presses finger-line manipulators together as their "face" shifts and moves with an array of colors before the features return as it speaks, "You are something of a conundrum. While history does say that the free-willed undead and necromancers of the Grand Necrotic Armada were prone to back-stabbing and interconflicts, the Council seeming to be no exception, we are intrigued by your words.

"You speak of seeking the destabilization and possible destruction of the Council. We won't ask why, however, we do wish to know who it is we are speaking with, and what you intend to do to accomplish your goals. The Protectorate is willing to listen due to your..." the screen flickers for a moment, the face taking on an expression the Disciple is unable to read, the basis likely foreign to what their knowledge, "Uncharacteristic eloquence and mutual aggression."

What should the Disciple say to this Cipher?

The guys is being pretty up front and he asked directly. I'd say that we be more truthful now. We serve a survivor who has had a mental paradigm shift and wishes tow work with the living, which means we disprove of rampant necrotic douchbaggary(unless they really have it coming). We are willing to do some unsavory things to accomplish our goals, but we do our best so that we never need to. This means that we will use more brutal methods with the council fores, but we will take loses to minimize civilian casualties. As long as you guys dont intend to start attacking civilians or undeveloped worlds, enslaving people or exterminating them, we have no reason to stab you in the back or the front.

I am the Wayward disciple, I have yet to earn my name as is the way if the void knight order.

The council is of the old Armada and so have not attempted to reflect upon its failings and the inevitable stagnation that path leads to. Having observed this council's actions and the way it treats its citizens we believe they will not see reason and will only submit to strength sue to their apparebt ravenous hunger.

I have established contact with various guerilla factions and dissenters. I intend to increase the council's fear of internal interference and turn them against one another to weaken them before stepping in to depose them.

For all their power and time they have done nothing to improve their world or the life of those who should be under their protection instead they have fed upon those weaker than themselves. I will not allow this to continue

'I am a pilgrim, sent unwillingly from my master to this place. The council are unclean, and betrayers of the Wormstar. To break them, and send them to infighting would be pleasurable but to annihilate them is my ultimate if not immediate goal.

I am one of the first disciples of the new Void Knight order, created in the image of Ghul whos void song is silenced eternal. It would please me infinitely to smite them, and take their shard of the Wormstar, which would be a mighty weapon to turn against the Ossic Empire.

They too are unclean, and usurpers of my birthright.'

Follow that up by asking if they know of the Ossi. Lets play to see if they recognize the big players back home.

You are correct that our forces on this sector are mainly compose of undead, but we represent a conglomerate of forces compose of undead and living species, some of which are fully independent allies and developing worlds under our protection, with the full consent of their inhabitants. We take on the name of the New Necrotic Armada of ancient past but we thoroughly condemn and combat the depredations of necrotic forces on sentience species that were the hold mark of the old armada and are common on undead forces. Our arrival on this sector was an accident but once appraise of the full extend of the Council of Thirteen actions on their world conflict was inevitable. We will defend ourselves and the species under our protection against other sentience species but
>>
>>2479529
>>2479599
I like these general approaches. We are derived from the armada (honesty is good for trust) but we serve a faction that has abandoned the old Armada's ways and seeks full cooperation with the living, with freedom and stability for all that seek it that peaceful cooperation.

We should ask what factions they have friendly contact with, in case one of them can vouch for us. If they don't have any, that's a red flag for US that THEY might not be worthy of trust.
>>
>>2479599
...fully encourage peace, cooperation and trade with other factions when possible.

>>
>>2479618
Yes, we need to know if we share any bridges. Our word only goes so far as the word of others
>>
>>2479594
>>2479558
Establishing that we have an identity beyond "necrotic" is good too. That said, Voidlord Ghul's order has a history they wouldn't be happy with either. As long as we emphasize a new desire for cooperation in our faction and a desire to earn their trust this can work.

How about proposing a joint strike, or some coordinated effort? Surely they could benefit from having someone infiltrating the Council's forces.
>>
>>2479505
Folding their hands atop the flat panel that served as the table the Harbinger glances around the hangar then back to Cipher, "I am a pilgrim, sent unwillingly from my masters to this place. I am the wayward Disciple, yet to earn my name, such is the way of my order.

"Indeed the faction I belong to was created by a survivor of the old Grand Necrotic Armada. My master has used these eons since the Wars to reflect upon the failings of the Armada and the inevitable entropic stagnation that would have been the outcome of their conflict," the Harbinger speaks, watching the simplistic expressions of Cipher across from them.

"You are correct that our forces in this sector are mainly comprised of undead, however we represent a conglomerate of forces consisting of undead and living species. Some are fully independent allies and developing civilizations under our protection, with the full consent of the inhabitants of course.

"We are of the New Necrotic Armada, formed by the Lich-Lord Jadyk of the now slain Wormstar. I do not know if those words mean anything to you but know that Lord Jadyk has learned from the past and seeks to reform both himself and the image of the undead. We seek a peaceful existence alongside the living, believing we can find a harmony."

At the mention of Jadyk and the Wormstars names the synthetic Cipher recoils somewhat in their seat, the screen flickering between expressions before they speak, "Perhaps we should ask why you intend to overthrow the Council," they motion with a hand to the Harbinger, "Continue."

"I was flung to this portion of the galaxy and onto the threshold of the Councils homeworld of Calera. I witnessed the atrocities they inflict upon their citizens and slaves, walked on the world driven to sickness by their corruption. After seeing all this and relaying it to my distant Masters was I given this mission. To dethrone the Council and bring their empire crashing down to free the worlds they have enslaved," the Harbinger says with the Disciples voice in their language, "I believe we could assist each other in this 'mutual aggression' as you put it."

Cipher is silent for a few moments before they speak, "The name and deeds of Jadyk and the Wormstar are quite clear in our memory. We would require proof that you do, in fact, fight to free those enslaved by the Council before we commit to any sort of cooperation."

"Has your Protectorate ever encountered a faction called the Armatocere Collective?" the Harbinger questions.

A flash of green moves across the screen-face of Cipher before a simple image of an Eldertree is displayed, "We have had encounters with them, yes. Peaceful but strange, kept mostly to themselves beyond expressing interest in exploring different worlds. However, they do not have much of a presence in this sector," the image is replaced with the simple expressions once more, "Would they know of your Necrotic Armada?"

>cont
>>
>>2479864
"If you could contact them they would indeed speak in our favor. Lord Jadyk himself defended Eldertrees from the hunger of a truly ravenous undead foe and has been invited to their homeworld to establish a last alliance between Collective and Armada," the Disciple says, hoping they weren't giving away too much, "I too, would like some reassurance that your Protectorate will not act against the living citizens of the Council should our combined or solo efforts overthrow them. It is the New Necrotic Armada's mission to protect the living against the selfish undead and to oppose tyranny such as that of the Osjiic Empire or the Ahkam Dynasties."

"We have...encountered the Ahkam before. They attempted to... claim the Protectorate due to some perceiving inheritance of the power Arc. They have not made another attempt in many cycles. This Osjiic Empire is unknown to us," the Cipher says giving a vague motion with a hand before they continue, "Our goal is mainly to prevent the spread of the Council of Thirteen's influence. We witnessed the galaxy burn during the Necrotic Wars and do not wish to see the Council reignite those flames. We are sympathetic to those living under their control and many of my Transcendent peers have long wished to provide aid but full scale invasion has not been an option."

They hold up a hand as the Disciple starts to speak through the Harbinger, "However, your presence on Calera, hidden as it is with your network among the living organics, could prove to tip the scales," they fall silent for several moments, the screen pulsing with random patterns of color before their 'face' returns and they speak, "We believe that this opportunity cannot go unclaimed.

"Allow us to send some of us to accompany you on your shuttle back to Calera. We would like to witness Calera firsthand and learn more while we work to contact the Collective and verify your claims," the Ciphers face takes on an expression that might be read as sympathetic on a human, "It is my personal hope that you speak no falsehoods. I remember a time before the corruption of the Necrotic Wars and the Council is a bleak reminder of those that were lost."

The Transcendent Protectorate wishes to send along several of their number with the Harbinger to Calera to observe while contacting the Armatocere Collective before deciding to progress with any joint operation.

How should the Wayward Disciple respond?

Im ok with it. Just make sure they are discreate. Our advantage in the fight is from our secrecy. If the Council find that they have a powerful enemy within their own world, they will band together even more strongly. Do not change your attack plans until we can work on a joint strategy.

This is acceptable. Also notice how they have "Transcendent peers" and are "sympathetic" to the living subjects of the Council. My guess is they are a civilization that embrace mind uploading at some point during the wars with original Grand Necrotic Armada.
>>
>>2479869
I would have suggested perhaps just one as we would need to hide their arc signature which is more easily sensed by necrotic entities how ever if they gave us a small arc engine we could creates a device to shield them from view and thus allow them entry

>>2479869
While the Disciple didn't expect the Harbinger would be returning with guests, let alone returning at all, but after a few moments the Harbinger steeples its fingers together before it as it leans on the hardlight slab of a table, "I would require discretion of the highest order. Our advantage in the fight is our secrecy. If the Council discovered that they have a powerful enemy within their own world, possibly allied with your Protectorate, they will band together even tighter."

Ciphers face changes to a symbol the Disciple doesn't recognize before a moment passes and they reply, "Agreed. They would become even more aggressive with their assaults if we were discovered on Calera."

"Very well, then it is acceptable. Select whomever you wish to accompany this Harbinger back to Calera," the Disciple glances toward some of the larger constructs in the hangar then back to Cipher, "Select only those that will fit."

There is different symbol that flashes upon the screen with a burst of color before Cipher stands, the chair dissolving beneath it, "Of course. Only myself a few others will join."

It takes less than hour before Cipher is joined by a handful of other synthetic entities, thankfully lacking apparent weaponry beyond the physical bulk of the heaviest among them. Following the Harbinger they board the Coffin that quickly takes off and exits from the hangar and begins accelerating to a safe distance to make the jump to FTL.

>The Transcendent Protectorate is dispatching the synthetic entity Cipher and a handful of others to follow the Harbinger back to Calera and assess the Disciple's operation while contacting the Armatocere Collective

I think it would really help the speed of the quest if more exposition like that was dealt with on the ask.fm. I alos wish that somehow multiple people could run a civ quest to help speed things up, with the main qm focusing on the MC and other central things, and helpers could also have a thread gong that deals with relatively minor events. The QM would need people he trusts and who have writing and calculatory skill to do it though.

AFAIK so far we know that they're at war with the Transcendent Protectorate, have subjugated the pre-industrial natives of Calera (the Itru) which are naturally Void-attuned, and that their dogma/propaganda paints Jadyk in a very negative light, for whatever reason. That last part is still puzzling to me because I'm not sure why Jadyk is an important figure in their ideology at all. Do they genuinely believe for some reason that Jadyk betrayed the Wormstar, or did they just need a devil figure? It's not like they know Jadyk has returned, do they?

I agree that it would be great to know if the Council has contact with any other factions, but I don't think that in-game we actually have that information.

They might just have been lesser subordinates of the Wormstar, who despised Jadyk for receiving some much of it’s favour and took the opportunity to paint him in a negative light after his defeat and imprisonment. It sound like we were one of, if not the, greatest Champion of the Wormstar, so while there were likely plenty of admirers I imagine there were many who were jealous as well.

I can confirm that Jadyk was indeed the "greatest champion of the Wormstar" with Ruscuv being a close second after him.

It was Jadyk's creation of the Cauldrons and perfecting of Reconstruction rituals that let the Wormstar build up their armies and become one of the key players in the Undying Court

Good to know. Out of curiosity, can you tell us how many liches there were in the Wormstar's armies, besides Ruscuv and Jadyk? I'd imagine there were at least a couple more, since Jadyk referred to Ruscuv as the most warlike of his "Siblings" if memory serves, but I'd be rather interested in knowing exactly hoe many there were.

How much did that drop of our essence change things when we revived Ruscuv?

Haven’t been to this thread in months. Last I left we were in a crystal after absorbing the power ark. What did I miss?
>>
>>2497446
Also did we ever get around to making wormstar wine?
>>

After we bullied snek to death and became a cocoon Bob and Jor defended our world and moon from an all out assault by the Osjic.
We also sent legionnaires and arbiters with the pirates to destroy a zombie infestation in one of their mega space cities. It went rather well.

We sent ruscuv to have a chat with that cranky ass skeleton dude who was churning out undead, the guy we flipped off to deal with the matriarch. We brokered a tentative alliance with him but he's probably going to be a real Odin down the line

I think that's all

>Odin
Nice autocorrect. I wrote "Pain in the ass" how the fuck did that happen
