It’s only been a day since you’ve set sail. The old man was kind enough to give you some pointers on how to actually run a ship, which is surprisingly easier than you had thought! It turns out the wheel which you thought turns the whole ship is only responsible for the rudder, while the more important aspect is the series of pulleys and levers that control the sails which determine your direction. His directions were clear, that you were to head Southeast till you hit the neighboring island.

He had failed however to mention just how long it would take. The ship doesn’t have an engine, therefor reliant solely on wind and oars, and while it can house at least seven or eight people only 1 person is needed to sail it. Which means all the work is dumped on you, as you furl and unfurl the sails, pull on rough hemp ropes, and continue checking the winds to make sure your sails catch the optimal draft needed to speed up your journey. You remember the old man's directions.

“This place is divided into four main seas, called The Blues. Each correspond to a cardinal direction, East, West, North, and South. We happen to be in the North Blue. The nearest island is a three or four day trip from here, but if the wind favors you, you might even make it in two! Simply head down South East, and you’ll reach Holemayo Island, where you can nab yourself some work to get yourself some Berries.”

“Berries?” You asked.

“The currency of the world. Kinda works like Yen, where they have an unspoken decmal point. Like, if someone is charging you 1,000 Yen, they’re actually charging 10 yen, it just seems expensive.”

“And what work did you invision me doing?”

“Well that depends on you. You could try and do some normal work before setting off again, hell you could even start up your own business on this here boat!”

“You mean, like a mobile restaurant?”

“Exactly! Been done before, and to great effect! Especially this place in the East Blue, called the Baratie? Best soup ever, even if the waiter there is a bit of a jerk. Tried putting the moves on my lady, why I...”

After that he proceeded to rant on and on about Bruce Willis for some reason. Regardless, the boat he gave you was exemplary, even for its small size! It had a mast with lovely white sail, strong oak hull and plenty of space below deck! The cargo bay was also loaded with food for the journey, which the grateful townspeople donated. Upon further inspection there’s even a few satchels and wallets full of Berries! All in total adding up to... 500,000 Berries!?

So how impenetrable would English be as a code to teach our crew so we can send each other secret messages
>>
>>2594394
Oh we're in north blue? There goes that Zoro bounty hunting rivalry idea
>>
>>2594411
Ha, nah he did, no worries. He wrote down the basic stuff like "hello, how are you," "where is X" etc, and now knows the sentence structure of Japanese, that being Subject-Object-Verb, along with particles and such. Though more advanced words, along with present, past, and future tense and others, he'll have to learn for himself.

>>2594424
Not very. Certain words in the world are written in English, like Marine, while others are spoken though with heavy accent. You just happen to have the complete set.

So we're no navajo code talker, but would it still be a good idea to teach our crew English? I don't think anyone that isn't a dedicated linguist or cryptographer could quickly crack English with only a handful of words as reference

No. Wait. He said there was a decimal point so in reality that would mean… 5,000?! That’s still a lot! You’re not sure if this is backed by gold or anything but to simply give away 5,000 dollars! Damn. You need to thank those people if you ever sail for that island again. You hope the food spoil too fast, though. You don’t know how much of this world is based on actual sea faring knowledge but pirates didn’t exactly have any means of refrigeration. Four 25 kilo barrels of fruit, two for apples and two for tangerines, two barrels full of salted meat, and a crate full of spices, and a chest… huh. You didn’t notice it till now as it was hidden behind the crate of spices but it seems rather ornate…

You push the crate aside and kneel down infront of the chest, undoing its latch and inside… is a fruit?

You inspect it for a moment, taking it its odd shape and rust-brown coloring. Its skin is adorned with wavy patterns and the stem looks bent and twisted at the end. Huh. Must be a delicacy?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zf0sIKypI4g

Your shaken out of your curiosity though by a sharp thunk against the outside of the hull, followed by another! And another! All of them in rapid succession! You make your way up to the deck and almost slip as you step on something slimy and slippery! A fish! A flying fish! There’s tons!

WHACK!

Right in the head, you’re struck by the biggest goddamn tuna you’ve ever seen in your life! Fat and majestic it comes tumbling down majestically from mid-air like an obese ballerina!

>You need to catch some of these! It’ll eat into your time to get to the island but hey! Free fish!
>Much as it tempts you to nab these delicious suckers, you need to make some more headway in your journey! Besides, they’d just stink up the kitchen without a fridge.
>Nab a few and store them for later, then get back to sailing, this way you’ll have some fresh fish, AND have made some progress towards Holemayo Island!

You resist the urge to take your revenge on the fatty tuna and his flying brethren, opting instead that they’re just not worth it. While the prospect of some tuna or some fish in your diet at sea isn’t displeasing, you consider all the work that would go behind prepping a tuna of that size. Hell, you don’t even have a cooler, and the smell? Forget it. You’ll just have to take out your anger on some roe if you find any.

Neigh, for the moment, you can feel the wind picking up, and if you’re not mistaken, those clouds are looking rather grey. You batten down the hatches with haste and make sure all the doors are properly locked below deck so as no water sinks into the cargo hold, possibly soaking your precious treasure chest!

The choppy waves knock the ship to and fro, forcing you to adapt your balancing lest you fall flat on your ass or worse, overboard. Harsh wind and drizzle rain down upon the deck, pushing the sails every which way even as you try to pull them Southeast. Thankfully, the storm is only a passing one, if a tad rougher than expected. Eventually, you spot some land on the horizon, and a fishing boat only a few hundred meters ahead! You pull the sails and attempt to bring yourself next his boat.

“Excuse me!” you announce yourself, your own ship gliding slightly past. The fisherman looks up from his line at you as you lean over the railing.

“Ye’? Wassit?”

“Is this Holemayo Island?”

“Yep, it is! Simply kep goin’ another phew metahs an’ you’ll find the port.”

“Thank you very much! Good luck!”

With a destination now in mind, you head for the Island! But, once you get there… what will you do?

You recall your brief lesson with the old man on certain phrases and vocabulary, you realise that you don’t have nearly enough knowledge on the world. You could theoretically fake it till you make it but, eventually, that mindset will see you lost or… well, you hope it’ll just get you lost. Something dawns on you however…

You don’t know how to say “book” or “library” in Japanese.

Darn. Looking around to make sure no one is spying on you in the middle of town, you pull out your phone and quickly type into the translate function “library”, “book”, and “book store”.

To shōkan, Hon, and Shoten. Now here’s something you didn’t understand. Library you understood is a different word, it’s a separate entity than the books it houses. But how does Book Store in japanese not mention Book? Why isn’t it Hon something? Cause in english you’d just say ‘Book Store’, and you’d know, it’s a store with books, so why didn’t the japanese words for Book Store mention the Japanese word for Book? Do the symbols change and morph according to the complexity of the words, and some how retain their meaning? You’d soon find out.

You make your way around town, and ask about for either a library or a book store, to which most of the citizens point you to some place called "Seinaru Kotoba”, Holy Words. Kind of pretentious for a book store but hey, who’re you to judge? After a few minutes, sure enough, there it stands! Holy Words Book Store, you expected something larger but the two story building seems to be bigger on the inside. There’s actually a window in the front of the store, where you can see inside a rough looking dude leaning over the counter, flanked by two smaller guards in uniform. His outfit seems official enough but you can’t help but get the same vibes from him that you got from Bellamy and his crew.

Behind the counter is a Librarian, if you could even call her that. You don’t know if the title means something else here, but she… honestly looks more like a witch to you than anything else!

(1/2)
>>
The expression on the man sours and he reaches over the counter, nabbing the woman by the collar before pulling her over so that she’s now nose to nose with him! She however, keeps her cool, seemingly unphased by the sudden violent action. It’s at this point you see, the books on the shelves are actually shaking, and the paper on the counter is rustling, as if moved by some unseen force. Suddenly, a piece of paper flies upward, and cuts the man's wrist! He lets go with a yelp, startling his entourage as they bring their muskets to bear! You prepare to draw your sword but… you don’t think you need to.

The store suddenly explodes with sheets of paper, books literally flying off the shelves and smacking the would be attackers, pieces of paper straightening out unnaturally and slicing up the trio! Before long they are consumed in a tornado of white papyrus, and bolt for the door, slamming it open followed by a stream of paper speckled with blood!

“あなたは魔女! 私たちは戻ってくる! 私たちはこの店を焼き尽くします! ただ待って!” screams the leader at the top of his lungs, before he and his stooges beat a hasty retreat.

You turn and see the woman standing in the doorway, hands on her hips and paper quickly flying back inside.

“Well? What do you want?”

TO BE CONTINUED

But in all seriousness some of them are fine. Like Lissa for example, I can see her fitting in an older fe game (like the gba ones not genealogy of anything like that). The older games (especially the gba games) are better than the newer ones I agree as someone who started with awakening but I think the character's didn't drop to far down they just added some more cancerous anime shit

Being a Bounty Hunter with a crew of Bounty Hunters sounds fun. Here's hoping for an update.
>>
>>2599921
And there might just be one!

No worries all, new session tonight!

Now real quick, I kinda want your opinions on both the direction the story has taken thus far, and the writing. Cause a goal has been layed out, JoJo wants to get home, but has no idea how, and thus his best bet is the One Piece.

However, he's still a human being, and has needs to fulfill. He needs money, food, a ship, and a way to reach his goal. So what I want to know is are you guys happy with what's happened thus far? Do you think I've done a good job representing the direction of the story via the consequences of your actions? Lastly, what do you guys think is going to happen in the future?
>>
>>2600089
Things have been going pretty well so far. Bounty hunting sounds fun to do, at least for the start, and I hope that we'll progressively get more shonen power
>>
>>2600089
>So what I want to know is are you guys happy with what's happened thus far?
I think it's fine to early to decide but for the most part yeah. There are some things you could've done better imo like letting us choose which blue we go to or something like that and the whole not understanding japanese thing is annoying. I know that we decided not to be a weeb but I thought the phone thing was a nice solution but the part that I didn't like was that we instantly went from 100% to like 8% which completely killed the entire mechanic.

>Do you think I've done a good job representing the direction of the story via the consequences of your actions?
It's still way to early to tell as we have not done anything that affects the world at large and have not had enough time to see the results if what we have done.

>Lastly, what do you guys think is going to happen in the future?
We're probably gonna end up being a Bounty hunter and possibly a pirate in the later future. And we're gonna go around forming a crew like discount Luffy
>>
>>2600089
I’m happy with how things have been developing so far. Not a huge fan of suddenly developing MC powers, but I can understand that it saves us a fair bit of time, and as far as effects go it isn’t really any different from eating a Devil Fruit, so I can look past it. As far as the effects of our actions, it’s a little early too tell, though we’ll probably find out soon. As far as what we’ll do next, we’re probably going to try our hand at this whole bounty hunting business, and then I assume anons are going to start looking to build up a crew, for when we (Almost inevitably) go pirate. Or we could possibly try and lone wolf it, though it doesn’t seem terribly likely.
>>
>>2600089
It's been fine so far. Really the only thing I hope for out of this is that we don't go pirate. Mostly because I'm tired of every One Piece quest more or less following in Luffy's shoes.
>>
>>2600292
Bulding a Bounty Hunting crew is almost mandatory if we plan to go after heavy hitter pirates - who will also be surrounded by their own crew. Lone Wolfing will limit our potential targets and is more likely to get us killed.
>>
>>2600466
I mean no matter what we do we're going to have to either join a crew or make our own unless we can fly under the radar hard enough that we won't have to deal with big threats

Huh. She must be referring to those three dudes she just cut up. Between people who can turn into springs and now this… what else can these people do? Is it exclusive to her and Bellamy or is it widespread? She turns back into the store but you remember something! Wait!

“Wait!” you partially exclaim, halting her in her tracks,

I’m so sorry, I forgot. I ask for your name.”

She once again looks you over. Granted between your now shabby clothes and the sword on your hip you’d second guess giving out your name too. After a few seconds of silent judgement she finally speaks.

“Marissa.”

“Well, it’s nice to meet you, Marissa.”

You hold out your hand and once more are met with a quizzical glance, first to your hand then back at you. Oh, right, of course, Japanese don’t do handshakes. Well this is awkward. You simply wipe your hand on your shirt and continue,

“So, the books. Could I read some?”

“Oh… yes. Of course. お入りください.”

You assume that means “come in”, and you do. Your initial assumption was correct, it turns out the store is bigger on the inside than it appears on the outside! Like a smaller high school hallway with rows of shelves on each wall, and miniature ladders to reach the higher shelves. All of the books seem to be in hardcover, and for some odd reason… all of them seem to have English text on the spines? Wait a minute this doesn’t make sense… could that mean…

Wanting to confirm your theory you take the nearest book on the counter next to the register, and the title is written in English! ‘A Brief History of Germa 66’! You open up to a random page and… it’s in Japanese. How even? Marissa turns her attention to you.

"Youが探しているBookは特にfor?”

Though you didn’t understand some of the words you believe she’s asking you what book you’re looking for… not wanting to waste power on your phone you decide to take a leap of faith.

“I’m looking for a book on Japanese.”

“Japanese? You’re looking to learn how to read?” She asks incredulously. Her constant gaze continues to drive straight through you, examining your actions, attempting to discern your motives. Before long she walks a few meters to the ladder, climbs up and scans the spines of the numerous encyclopedias. Finally she lands on one, and you catch a glimpse of the title! ‘English and Japanese Texts’!

She hands you the book, and you mutter a “thank you”, and you open the book up! ‘English and Japanese Texts… for Idiots?’. Guess it must be a “for Dummies” version. You skim through the first few sections, some great relief filling you when you realise it has all the possible lessons you could need!

“I’ll be 正直...”, she says, pulling you out of your skimming, “I didn’t expect to run into anyone who could speak English this far in the North Blue.”

“Oh, well… I only dabble.”

She lets out a ‘hmm’ at that before she continues.

“Well, is there anything else you wish to read or ask? Also if you plan on buying that book that will be 3,000 Berri.”

You hand her the money from your wallet, and realise you might need to carry more money with you the next time you come ashore somewhere.

>Yeah, who were they? The big guy and his friends who threatened you?

And here we go!

“Is there a bounty office nearby? I’m looking for…” you flip through the book, landing on W-O, work is... “sagyo?” You hope you’re pronouncing that correctly.

“Yes, there’s one in town not far from here, though it’s not World Government certified.. Although, if I were you I would steer clear. There seem to be some… shady people frequenting it nowadays.”

“Thank you very much!”

“Be careful, okay?”

You nod as you head out the door, your new book now in hand. Quickly you resume the pages you started and familiarize yourself with provided lessons. Particles, mostly formal, and you also learn that they don’t have a question mark, instead using a particle called “ka”, with an inquisitive tone. Huh. Japanese might actually be more phonetic than English…

After awhile you finally land at the bounty office, after all it’s hard to miss, as the wooden sign outfront has the words painted in bold blue lettering. You enter, and you find there’s a kind of ‘registry desk’ manned by a woman, where you can sign up! You saunter over to the counter.

“Excuse me, is this where I sign up to become a bounty hunter?”

“Yes! Here is the required paper work,” she slips under the table, handing you some forms, “And you simply sign your name, current address, and age.”

Age? Oh darn, there must be a limit to how young you can be. Well, it’s worth a shot at least. Name… you that’s right, in Japanese you’d be called Johnson, though you can’t quite remember the reason why… regardless, you sign the official last name first name format, Johnson Joseph. You also just realised you… don’t really have a current address. Screw it, you write down the current dock your ship is harbored in. To think it was your age that you were worried about, at this point it seems more impressive that you, a 19 year old college student own your own boat.

Granted you’re not one to read fine print to begin with but you’re about to undertake your very first paying job! Hunting down dangerous fugitives no less! You’d be stupid not to.

Yadda yadda, compliance with the world government, blah blah blah, contract and benefits become null and void if subject becomes a pirate, nanana, 30% cut if brought in dead? Public executions?! Jesus, you heard a bunch of conspiracies that a one world government would be brutal but damn. There’s also an entire clause dedicated to the hierarchy of Bounty Hunting, as there seem to be ranks. D through S, with S ranks able to be considered for position of… Chishibukei? No, Shishibukai. Huh. Must be some kind of special rank.

You sign off on the dotted line with your initials, JoJo. Cute little nickname your mom and dad used to call you. Happy with your immaculate cursive you go ahead and hand the paper in to the woman at the counter. She flips through the information before ruffling and the papers, tapping them against her desk and stapling them.

“Thank you very much sir, your application will be processed shortly! If you could please make your way through the door on the right, we will begin your aptitude test!”

“Aptitude test?”

“Yes sir, to determine your starting rank, and the level of bounties for which you can choose from our bounty book, which you will receive once the test is complete, along with an updated copy every 2 to 3 months!”

Huh, sweet! Free books! You make your way through the door and outside is a big open area, resembling a sort of wooden gladiatorial arena! Sweet! Though, there seems to be no one around… though you’re startled out of your inquiry by a voice on a loudspeaker that you cannot see.

Would the evaluee please state their name?

Looking around you see it’s not a loud speaker but a snail! These must be one of those Den-Den Mushi the old man mentioned.

“Joseph Johnson,” you state loudly, “age 19.”

(2/3)
>>
There’s a brief 5 second silence before you see the snail’s mouth moving again;

“Alright, Mr. Johnson, your aptitude test will consist of a kumitei. You will fight other bounty hunters and criminals until you can fight no longer. Everything you do will be taken into consideration for your starting rank. Bear in mind that though a bounty hunter may begin with a D in rank because they are… slow, does not mean they are weak. It must also be noted, though we test your aptitude for lethality, we do not allow killing during the aptitude test. If you understand please say the word ‘begin’.”

You draw your sword and take a breath… should you really be so eager to draw blood, especially for what amounts to practice?... no. No, if you’re correct… then your weird… ghost blades follow the direction of the primary blade… you turn it around, so that the blunt side of the blade is facing outward! To test your theory you examine the other blades, and they appear to have taken your cue! Perfect!

“Begin!”

There is a buzzing sound and two large double doors swing open from infront of you, and from outside come a dozen or so men rushing in, all armed with blunted blades, fists, and even guns?! What the hell you thought they said there was no killing! Forget it, it’s time to fight!

You crouch down and tense your legs, shooting forwards and swinging your blunted blade into the crowd, aiming for the necks! Your cutlass and its invisible counter parts connect in the crowd with sickening crunches, taking out three people in your first swing! Though you can see through the crowd that the more space you liberate the more space is filled up with no fighters.

Sparing not even a minute you continue to hack and bash your way through the crowd, taking out 12 of your aggressors within the span of a few minutes! Yet the dozen you took down pale in comparison to the current number. If you had to guess you’d say there were still 24, and they only seem to get bigger and badder as time goes on. You don’t think the examiner on the Den-Den Mushi mentioned a time limit either, so you have to either take out the majority of the fighters here, of get your ass knocked out.

At one point you’re fairly certain you’re just fighting a straight up ogre! He even has a club and everything, and he really doesn’t like you, or the fact that you poked him the eyes. Everything just blends together as time becomes a blur and your mind meshes combat and life together, intertwining the sheer adrenaline rush with the swinging of your phantom swords.

You actually take the first hit of the kumite from behind, and you never saw it coming. 45 people in and all you hear is a THUNK from behind, followed by ringing in your ears! You turn around and swing your sword, smashing him in the face, 46 now! But you’re surrounded. Once again from behind but he moves back before you can retaliate. You can’t tell how many are wailing on you at this point. 8. 9. Maybe 10. all of them with fist and foot and sticks and club and rage and fight FIGHT FIGHT!!!

are these swords even yours?

Everything goes black.

out of the night that covers you, black as the pit from pole to pole,

You see you’re not as singular as you may like to think

... those aren’t your hands gripping those swords…

You awake… with a headache that rivals any you’ve known thus far. You can barely move your body.

Groaning you rub the back of your head and feel that underneath the cloth bandage a huge bump has taken form. In fact you’re actually surprised that something worse hadn’t happened. You give yourself a once over and see your whole body is covered in bandages. Cuts and bruises seem to be a mainstay of your body, but a worrying recurring pattern seems to be forming, that you can’t stay out of a hospital bed longer than a day now.

After putting your shabby clothes back on you exit the bedded area to the reception desk. People in the room give you shifty eyed looks, some more filled with worry than others. You don’t blame them, you feel like a goddamn zombie, probably look like one too. THe girl at the desk though…

She looks goddamn ecstatic.

“Yoooouuuuu…. DID IT!!”

She pulls out a party popper and tugs the string, letting loose a loud pop of confetti all over you.

“You successfully defeated 47 of our 50 members! For your sheer brutality, calculating execution, and overall effectiveness in combat, I award you, with the starting Rank of... A!”

With that she hands you both a certificate and a medium sized booklet. You flip through the booklet and find a whole load of Bounties, ranging from smaller double and triple digits to some ranging in the millions! Damn!

“Smile!”

Huh?

FLASH

You have to blink the surprise from your eyes, but you see what flashed you. An old timey camera with a bulb.

“With this, your face has been added to the Bounty Hunter’s Directory as our newest A Rank Bounty Hunter! Yay!”

“... thank you.” you mutter.

“Now go out into the world and bring some criminals in to justice!”

She gives you a wink and a thumbs up… and you think feeling is returning to your whole body. You feel… alive! You return a smile to her and proceed to the door, but stop just short of leaving, a psst grabbing your attention. You look around though ad don’t see anyone, but the sound returns, like the hissing of an impatient snake.

Psssst!

You look to your left and in the more dimly lit corner of the room, you see a group of 7 men, all shrouded from the sunlight that shines only millimeters from them. One of them beckons you over. Seeing no reason not to humor the man you walk over to the group and their table.

“Hey… we heard right? You just signed up and got yourself an A as your starting rank?”

You nod the affirmative… and the man sniggers.

“We have a proposition for you.”

WEW! That took longer than expected! Again, really sorry that took so long, what with the power outage and all, doubly sorry if this session seems shorter than most. Also, I wanna know, why don't you guys discuss things between posts? Do I take too long, am I too fast, are there only three people? Regardless, next session is Saturday, same time, same place, thanks so much for being here!
>>

>I award you, with the starting Rank of... A!”
Awesome!

>Baroque works
Not awesome!

>Also, I wanna know, why don't you guys discuss things between posts?
You do take average but nothing unbearable. It's not so much speed as there isn't much to talk about. In the 1st thread for example we were planning out our future and came to the general consensus of being a bounty hunter. Not much has changed between then and now (..well until the Baroque Works thing) so there was no real reason to continue the discussion unless someone brings up something up something else that interests us
>>
>>2608989
Ah, shite.
Thanks for the run, JRE. As to why the lack of discussion... I think a lot of people tab out between posts. At least, I do. And we're in a bit of a lull right now, so... not really sure what to discuss when I'm here.
Don't worry. Soon enough we'll get to a point of contention and then we won't shut up. At all. Possibly for days.
>>
>>2608989
Hahahahahaha fuck

Also yeah much the same as the others said, i tend to only check the thread every so often, also im just not very good at coming up with things to discuss.
>>
>>2608989
>>2609023
Forgot to add that you could always ask questions at the end of posts once in a while if you really want a discussion. I've never seen a QM do that before. Might be a bit much but if you really wanna start a discussion that'd a surefire way
>>
>>2609083
Well I mean I assume people would talk about the incredibly ominous text that's been spoilered.

Along with the Devil Fruit you guys still have in your cargo hold. Like, you guys gonna sell that, eat it? Keep it? Cause yeah they don't rot but mind you, I do rolls for you behind the scenes. No one bothers to steal it from you cause they don't know if you have anything WORTH stealing but mark my words... shit can and will go wrong. Hell, a fuckin rat could eat it...
>>
>>2609112
I think the ominous as shit text is ghosts maybe?
Like the invisible swords are wielded by the souls of the people the sword kills? or something.

Also I feel like until we learn what the fruit is it's just gonna be left in the hold until someone tells us or we start to starve and eat it.
>>
>>2609112
I don't know what we would say about the text other than "wow that's pretty spooky". It's kinda self exploratory, ghost hands use the sword. We don't know enough about what's going on to base anything off of because this sword thing seems to be related to the laws of this quest in particular as opposed to the laws of the one piece world that we know

And as for the fruit we already talked about it in the first two threads, I'm pretty sure the consensus was to give it to a crewmate who specializes on punches and or kicks because the fruit is perfect for people like that, sell it if we can find a good price, or maybe eat it if we need to. We can't do too much with it until mc learns about what it is. Guarding or trying to sell the fruit without knowing the context is just ridiculous for the mc to do. The mc really needs an experienced and knowledgeable crew member to teach him these things so he isn't just blindly wandering around trying to find the one piece to get back home. Also that rat has gotta be pretty swole to break the chest.

TORTURED BELLAMYS SOUL FOR YEARS
>>
So it's either
>People killed by the sword become extra spoopy swords
or
>Souls of the previous owners of the sword get added to the spoopy swords
Either way, that's fucked up
>>
>>2609112
I'd assumed it to be all the blade's previous wielders, or the souls of those it's slain, or something spooky like that. And like others have said, we've mostly decided on what to do with the Devil Fruit already. Probably give it to any crew members we end up recruiting that'd be able to effectively make use of it, or just sell it for a boatload of money if nobody suitable turns up, once we know in-character what it is. We should probably avoid joining up with Baroque Works though. I mean, it'd give us a decent chance of meeting up with Luffy and the rest of the cast, but I can't say I'm terribly interested in encountering them before we get more experience under our belt, and some loyal allies. Joining his crew wouldn't really be something I'd be opposed to, but it's not exactly the first option I'd take.

Crocodile's also a terrible boss, yeah. And we wouldn't really be able to fight back if he decided to off us. I wouldn't want to bet on our swords being able to affect a Logia fruit user. Not yet anyways.

Wait, so we're somehow holding all the swords without knowing?
>>
>>2609483
Well whatever, best not to think to hard on it. Not like there's much we can do about it right now, anyways. If it's sapping our lifespan or turning us into a spooky scary skeleton or whatever we'll deal with that as it comes. Worked out fine for Brook, at least. We can always ditch it and just use the Devil Fruit we've got, if it really comes down to it.

OK, after actually reading though it its seems fairly obvious now. The swords that appear are from the future. that is the best guess I have at the moment. Though they involve time in some way.
>>
>>2609516
I'd suppose that you'd have to kill him a second time to get the fruit to reappear, which I would suppose would entail destroying most of his bone structure. He doesn't really seem to be able to do anything but reunite his bones when they're fully intact, so smashing them into shards would probably do the job.

He doesn't really seem to be able to do anything but reunite his bones when they're fully intact, so smashing them into shards would probably do the job.
He also got the ghost ability after the timeskip.

Does anyone know of any other good One Piece quests? I've been wondering this for a while so I might as well ask while we wait. I've only read the Muscle one and I enjoyed it but I'm kinda reluctant to read through the others so if I could narrow down the list it'd be much easier.

You're right when you say that JoJo doesn't know what Devil Fruits are per se. He knows from his limited research that Luffy got his stretching powers from one, but he doesn't know what they look like, how to find them, or any of the rules that accompany them. Now he could have asked Marissa what the hell the paper thing was about and she could have explained, even give him a book on it!

You might even still get that chance!

You cock your eyebrow at this. These don’t seem like the most trustworthy of people if you’re being completely honest. But then again, you suppose it would be a sort of step up. Bounty HUnting, while lucrative, is a very involved job, having to track down your target. Fighting them you’re certain you can handle at this point, but you’ll see what these men offer. Flipping through your book you look for the proper particles to use in this sentence.

“What is this proposition?” you ask the leader of the group.

“Oh it’s simple really. We’re in search of a book that our superior needs. We’ve reason to believe it’s located in a library around these parts, and we’re always in search of new members.”

“Members?” you ask.

“Yea, for our… well I suppose it would be a crew wouldn’t it?”

Crew? As in…!

“You’re pirates?!” you exclaim aloud, putting your hand to your sword, ready to draw!

The six others at the table ready heir weapons in a similar fashion, putting their hands around hilts and grips before the leader sits up slightly.

“Woah woah woah!” He exclaims, “Keep them stowed! No, we’re not pirates… per se. We’re bounty hunters, all of us! I’m Mr. 11, and these are my… friends!” he says, with exaggerated hand gestures. Upon closer inspection you notice he actually has the numbers 1 tattooed on his both sides of his face, almost like the hands of a clock… weird.

“Regardless,” he continues, “we’re in need of one more man for the job! Just requires sneaking in, nabbing the book, in and out, no one gets hurt!”

“And how much money is there?”

“Oh… um… well, you can keep whatever’s inside! Any treasure you find is yours! Plus, I’ll be sure to recommend you to the bosses!”

… on the one hand, it would be seemingly easy. Hell you could just walk in and try to sneak the book out. But on the other hand, he’s probably talking about Marissa’s shop, and if things were to go wrong then…

>Accept the proposal, what’s the worst that could happen?
>Decline, Marissa’s been nice to you since day one.
>Tell him you need some time to think about it.

Thinking it over, you’re certain now that they mean to rob Marissa. All over a book! She’s been unnecessarily sassy during the brief time you’ve known her, but she’s been nice. You can’t just go and turn your back on people like that.

“Sorry, but… I will not rob anyone.”

He smirks as if pleased.

“Good! I knew you’d-” His smirk suddenly vanishes however, and is replaced with an incredulous expression, his eyes bulging and his mouth wide, “Eeeeeh?! Wadda you MEAN you refuse?!”

“I mean I do not wish to help you in robbing the library.”

“But we’re offering you easy money! How hard could it be to rob a librarian!”

His voice certainly carries… and you’re certain someone else has heard him saying he was going to rob something. Though it seems for the moment you’re the only one who knows of his plan.

“I’m sorry, but I…” you flip through the book once more, giving a slight bow, “Refuse.”

You look up and you think you see smoke rising from his ears! Holy shit you didn’t even know that was physically possible!

“この野郎!” He kicks the table away and toward you, which you hurriedly back away from!

“じゃ, we’ll find someone else! Come on men!”

And with that he makes his way out the door of the Bounty Office, thankfully in the direction of the docks. You can’t help but think they’ll find someone all too willing to help them in their ploy… man, what do you do?

>Nothing, go by some supplies for your next trip, this ain’t your problem.

Inform the marines, then go right to Marissa. They might end up being helpful, and being in their good books wouldn't hurt us any.

>>2618383
I dunno, would the Marines commit any meaningful force for a suspected robbery?

Unrelated, but what type of Devil Fruit would Anons want for the MC? Personally I'd like a Zoan fruit but I wouldn't scoff at a good Paramecia type.
>>
>>2618337
>Buy supplies for the next trip, then go and warn Marissa.
Not really any reason to panic, we’ve got hours until the night, and they’re not going to rob her in broad daylight.

>>2618383
Good idea on paper, in reality it could end up with noone there giving a shit, or Marines ignoring the notice because they are either busy or paid off, and when we finally decide to stop asking for help and go inform Marissa, we will find her dead, THEN Marines bust in, lock us up because obviously its us that killed her and there are going to be witnesses(paid off by the pirates) that seen us talking with people wanting to rob her place, and we will have our BH license revoked, and either spend the rest of our lives in damp cell or just get executed with no trial.

I seen GMs that just roll that way.

I want a paramecia ideally but a logia would be cool too. Fuck Zoans though they're usually really simple and boring
>>
>>2618389
A Zoan would be good, or a Paramecia that’s well suited to us. Logia are strong to start out, but when everyone’s got Haki and Seastone they lose a lot of their punch. A Zoan would probably be best, since they usually provide a straight physical boost, which is useful for a swordsmen like us. A mythical Zoan would be ideal, but since us getting one is exceedingly unlikely I’d settle for one with a good combination of speed and strength, like a big cat or canine.
>>
>>2618416
Same here I wanted that at first but the fact that we're a sword user doesn't really complement the fruits strengths unless if we do A LOT of training with it
>>
>>2618389
No DF, swim game strong.
Also, are the ghost-swords our ability, or sword ability? We should try doing it with another sword and see if it still works.
If its our own ability, maybe try getting the sword infused with DF?
>>
>>2618410
>>2618427
Don't forget that Ancient Zoans are a thing, like X Drake's T-Rex Fruit ability. Sad thing is they are just as rare as Mythic Zoans.
>>2618436
>maybe try getting the sword infused with DF?
Dunno, the process for that was invented by Vegapunk. We'd have to butter up the Marines pretty good to manage it.

Well, you suppose you only have one course of action. You head out the door of the Bounty Hunter’s office and make your way back up to Holy Words! You make your way up to the door and find it’s locked however, with a sign saying ‘Out to Lunch’! Damn it!

You try knocking on the door, then proceed to bang on it with some moderate force, enough to make sure anyone inside notices!

“Marissa! Open the door, it’s me Joseph!”

After a few seconds of waiting you see Marissa rounding coming from downstairs, with a sandwich still in her mouth. She leaves it on the counter and comes to open the door.

“What? What is it?”

“MarissaIneededtotalktoyouthere’sguysand-”

“Oi oi oi! Wait a minute! 落ち着く...” she takes in a deep breath, and then exhales slowly… “ゆっくりと呼吸... now, what is wrong?”

You take a breath and explain to her the situation, the group of six, now possibly seven or eight guys, and how they were coming over to nab some kind of book.

“Damn it… they could want anything…”

If she’s concerned her face only shows it slightly, but she turns it to you.

“Well… I don’t know what to say… I thank you for telling me but… I suppose… well, I’m going to need some form of help. They’re coming with 8 people, maybe more. Three back then I could handle but I’ll need some reinforcements.”

>Stay with her and help defend her book store

>>
>>2618547
Ask her to try to and figure out what book they're trying to get. then get ready to defend the store.
How long do we have to prepare?

Also are is there any aquatic devil fruit? like you could turn into a Sea King, control water, etc etc. If a fishmen eats a df do they lose the ability to breathe underwater?

So from what I read it seems defense is the option that wins.

As for prep time you have around 2, 3 hours to prepare which when fortifying a house doesn't seem like a lot.

As for the question about "Aquatic Devil fruits", I'm sure there's gotta be something out there like Whale or a Dolphin fruit, though they're quasi useless as if you're a DF user and you'd just drown. Fishmen would actually NOT lose their ability to breathe under water, just to swim, since DF users will always sink, no matter what. It's like a hell worse than death, you're a Fishman so you can breathe but you can't move since you're so weak.

Now I actually have something I need to do early tomorrow so this'll be the last post of the night! Stay tuned though, I have a feeling you'll like this.

Well, this wouldn’t be the first time you’ve defend someone from a gang of bloodthirsty pirates.

“Alright, I’ll help you, but!-” just as she is about to thank you, you interrupt her and list your condition “Firstly, you need to tell me what that flying book was, because it was really…” You flip through the book again, “Hen. Weird.”

“Oh… well… if you noticed… this book store is really empty, and that’s partly the reason why. I ate the Kami Kami no Mi, and became a Paper-Person… now everyone thinks this shop is cursed so long as I’m here… even the local guard hold me in suspicion.”

“Wait… Kami-Kami no Mi? What is that? What’s a Mi?” You flip through the book but find nothing.

“You won’t find it in that book. It’s more advanced. I ate a Devil Fruit. They’re fruits said to have been cursed by the devil, and who ever eats them is cursed with strange abilities. Rumors and superstition say that the devil inside them cause you to sink, but it’s not true! I’m not cursed!”

She says, stamping her foot and cringing in anger while the papers and pages within the many books seem to shake and rattle, as if responding to her anger. Well… that certainly explains a bit.

“These… Devil Fruits… they can do more than just this? What do they look like”

She opens her eyes, almost surprised to see you still standing there.

“Wha? Well… they look like fruit but with swirls, and come in different colors. Why, what do you mean?”

“I mean I think I fought someone who ate a Devil Fruit before. He could turn into…” you flip through the pages of the book but you don’t find any equivalent for springs… so you opt to just imitate what Bellamy did whenever he turned his legs into springs, accompanied by a ‘boing’ sound.

“He could… turn into springs?”

Ah, so they just say ‘spring’, “Yes! He could! I killed him and saved a town, and they gave me a weird fruit!”

You swear you heard something fall in the back of the store, like a cat off a trash can, startling the both of you. You look to each other then to the back door, and you draw your sword. You force the door open quickly, only to see the tail end of some guy running around the corner of the store! Down to the pier! Oh snap! You turn back quickly to Marissa.

“We need to defend this store!”

“I have some wood lying around, ハンマーをつかみなさい!すばやく、バリケードのドア!”

Is that seriously how they say ‘barricade the door’? Forget it! Quickly you get to work with some spare wooden planks and nails, nailing the huge front window shut and blocking the door with any implements you can find! Before you know it… the sun is setting on the horizon. In a beautiful red and orange glow...

Twilight darkens slightly as the last rays of sunshine begin to descend, and then… that’s when you see them.

Torch lights.

You count at least… 14 torches alone, and in their luminocity you spot shadow dancing, flickering in time with their flames, all of them hungry… for you. Thankfully you’re on the second floor where you and Marissa prepared some throwing weapons, including a few molotovs made from cooking oil and spare glass bottles. But you’re going to be honest you’re going to need way more than these puny 8 you’ve made. Marrisa is beside you, on the opposite end of the second floor window.

At the front of the mob you actually see a familiar face, Mr. 11. He might be wearing a domino mask but you can still see the #1 tattoos on his face. Next to him is someone with a familiar build but… you can’t quite place him… he seems to be covered in… paper cuts?

The scratched up man turns around to his followers, giving them a motivational speech you can’t quite make out. It seems to work though, as all 15 of his own men cheer for him. Something about… new power?

The mob then advances and stops just outside of your throwing range down the street, and Mr. 11 saunters up.

“Kid! We know you and your friend are in there! We don’t want to hurt you! We just want the book!... and maybe that Devil Fruit you’ve got!”

Shhiiittt… that’s what that was… a spy. Damn it.

“Surrender now and we won’t burn down this pathetic excuse for fire wood!”

You want to respond but Marrisa pushes open the door faster than you can react!

やって来て、それを試してみてください、私はあなたを裂くでしょう!私の店を燃やそう!地獄にお送りします!

You pull her back before she can say anything else, and peek through the window again. You see Mr. 11 shake his head, and proceed to give instructions to wardrobe of a man. He starts to flex, and the cobblestones on the road begin to shake and tumble, rolling onto his feet and up his leg! Finally they rest on his hands and form some kind of crazy stone brass knuckles! Holy shit! Aren’t Devil Fruits supposed to be a rarity!? He’s like the third person you’ve seen who has one!

He charges at the store and RAMS into the wall, shaking the entire building and nearly tearing it down with the sheer force! He backs up again, and readies himself to charge…

This is gonna be a long night.

>>
>>2622622
It does seem like a useful skill to have for a world that's something like 99% water.
>>
>>2622622
Being able to swim is useful, but I’d take super powers on top of the super powers we already have in exchange for it. Means of moving over water, while uncommon, aren’t exactly exceedingly rare, it seems like most Devil Fruits are capable of it, and we can learn Geppo if whatever Devil Fruit we eventually acquire isn’t capable of it, and getting one or two other people who can swim on to the team wouldn’t be particularly hard.
>>
>>2619309
>Zoans
>Boring
Just because most the zoan users dont use their fruit properly does not mean Zoan-type devil fruits are boring or weak, look at Chopper if you want a zoan user that uses his fruit to the fullest extent, imagine someone on One Piece using a zoan fruit like someone from Killing Bites or Terra Formars.
>>
>>2620443
If we end up getting a mythical/ancient I'd perfer to sell it. We'd probably get enough to buy a small island if we talk to the right people.

>>2623099
Chopper is an incredibly, INCREDIBLY, rare case and I don't think we've seen anything like it with anyone else in the series. And even chopper, while a lot more interesting than most others, is kinda boring. Only monster point was really interesting and it got boring as soon as he mastered it and completely removed the weakness that made it cool.

My big problem with Zoans is that all too often their powers boil down to just making them bigger and stronger instead of giving them a unique power like Paramecias and even Logias. The only fruit I can remember liking was Marco's but that was incredibly over powered which I want to avoid doing. For example someone suggested a Hydra but I feel like once we have that we'll just steamroll everything. I have no idea what our opponents will do against that and that's not even thinking about the regeneration aspect. At that point the only people who can takes us down 1 on 1 are Yonko
>>
>>2623165
That's because Zoan-type fruit dont make a weak person strong, they make a strong person stronger, because they are multiplatory in when comes to strengh unlike the Paramecia and Logia fruits that are just additional, CP9 being the biggest example of this with their techniques receiving a boost because of their transformations.

I cited Chopper because, like I said before, he's one of the only one persons using a zoan's powers to their fullest extent, any Zoan user with enough train can use as many forms as Chopper with the Hito Hito no Mi, hell just imagine if Rob Lucci could transform into such form with the Neko Neko no Mi, Model: Leopard.
>>
>>2623500
>any Zoan user with enough train can use as many forms as Chopper
Can you please tell when was this stated or at least anything that hinted to it
>>
>>2623500
This is technically incorrect, in regards to other forms. Sort of. Chopper is able to use different forms initially through the use of Rumble Balls, a type of medicine that Chopper developed that distorted the effects of his Devil Fruit, and would likely have a similar effect on other Zoan type Devil Fruit, allowing him to assume various forms. After the Timeskip however, he was able to use most of his forms without ingesting Rumble Balls. This implies that these sorts of transformations can be achieved naturally. However, I think that one would probably need to have experience ingesting Rumble Balls to actually be able to reproduce the effect naturally, like Chopper can after the Timeskip, or would have to otherwise undergo decades of training and familiarity with their Zoan fruit to do this.
>>
>>2623567
Either that or going by generic bullshit mango/animu rules he OD on them so hard that the effect stayed.
>>
>>2623878
That’s also a possibility of course.
>>
>>2623878
>>2624505
So you're saying winners do drugs?
>>
>>2623537
>>2623567
My mistake, I guess. People that have mastered Seimei Kikan can alter their bodies, the gorgon sisters and Lucci use that to achieve other temporary forms through the usage of the technique, the devil fruit just took it to another level.
>>
>>2624841
Don't all zoans have the power to alter their forms to an extent though. They can go human, animal, or a fusion of both iirc
