Finally after two years in the service of the Dark Queen Quintis you have finally been promoted, no more marching through filthy peasant villages administering the Queen's justice, this is your chance to rise through the ranks of her Majesty's armies and become one of her generals, or so you thought.

Last thread we left off with Baldr trying to talk some sense into Selenas our captured hero,

“I am honestly curious Selenas what are you and your friends doing what is the point of all this fighting, did they tell you?”

“Well, I was never told the exact reason, but we are doing this to help the peasants, the ones how suffer most, in your Queen’s march for more. I understand that our rebellion will cause more peasants to suffer and die, but if we win we can put an end to even more suffering,”

“Will it though Selenas? How will you provide for the peasants, where will you get the wood for their houses, the iron for their tools, and the land for their crops if you don’t march for more the way our Queen does.”

“Well, maybe people will have to make do with less we will have to be more conservative with our resources,”

“It is well and fine to say things like that Selenas, but it is another to actually make good on them, sure maybe you can get by using less but what of the farmer who doesn’t have enough land to grow the crops he needs to feed his family. What will happen to him?”

Selenas starts to wring her hands as she scrambles for an answer “Maybe we can find some sort of peaceful solution to our problems, I’m sure that if we really try we can make peace with the elves and all of our other neighbors.”

“As I said before Selenas, there is no treating with the elves. Every time we tried to make peace with them, every time we tried to make deals with them, every time we sent a messenger to them. The only thing we got in return was the messengers severed head," You let out a sigh before continuing, "They do not care who we were or what we wanted or needed. And if given the chance they would gladly see us all as corpses. It is the same way with our other neighbors, they too hate us and if given the opportunity they would destroy us.”

The weight of your words seems to lay heavy on Selenas as she furrows her brow, thinking hard on what you have said.

You decide to go and check on the excavation of your dungeon expansion, as you walk towards it you find your goblins and the other 5 peasants using long poles to drag bodies out of a pit fall trap. It would appear that is where your goblins dumped all of the bodies from the attack, You could see that several of the bodies had been loaded onto a cart already, some of them in bad shape, most of those were missing limbs but a few of them were sliced in half leaving a mess of entrails that got hauled up with the body you hold your breath as you pass by them on your way to the excavation.

You arrive at the dig site to see the peasants only a little further along than the last time you checked on them it would seem that the section of the hill you were digging into was made up of hard packed soil and large chunks of rock that were slowing the peasants down, thinking back to your recent purchases you quickly go and retrieve your wood worker, and stone carver kits. "Here," you say offering them to the peasants the kits, "This one is a stone carver's kit it has some tools that should help you guys through that rock, and this one is a wood carvers kit, it should help you fashion better support struts so that the excavation doesn't fall on your head."

The peasants thank you profusely before returning to their digging, you can only hope that they increase their pace, as you return to your other duties.

We may be able to enlist the help of Resis tomorrow/ the day after for work on blacksmithing, since they might be more willing to work with us if their own men and sons are garisoning our fortress.

Also It might be smart to make an appearance to the burying of our fallen former combatants and make gestures to show the people of resis that their new warden regrets the decisions of the former warden as well as to hit home more that it was the hero's fault in the deaths of their kind as you see none of these terrorists here to mourn the grief and death that they've force upon this village.

Your halberd needs some TLC you decide, so you begin toward your room when, you suddenly remember, "You three, what are your names, so that I can notify your kin that you are alive,"

"Tom,"
"Henry,"
"Tom,"

"Your last names," you say pinching the bridge of your nose.

"Oh, um, Lintwood,"
"Mapledick,"
"Brooks,"

"Thank you, you may return to work,"

On you way back you notify the five peasants of the 3 men who were still alive before heading to your room to fix the halberd.

You take the broken pieces of your halberd and set them on a table, then you pull up the blacksmith's kit and set to work.

using the tools from the blacksmith kit you pull the shattered wooden shaft out of the halberds head, next you saw away the splintered end of your halberd before reattaching the head, You surprise yourself with how good your halberd looks, although it is fractionally shorter, you can swear that the head never fit as snug, that thing was not coming off any time soon.

By your estimates you have time for one more small thing before the peasants would finish retrieving the corpses.

Asking for recruits from the village right away would seem cold, but we can get the infrastructure in place. Maybe tomorrow we can start headhunting for someone who can do training.
>>
>>2601580
was there anything worth salvaging off the dead goblin boss that could be cleaned and reused for the goblins?

>>
>>2601586
>Maybe tomorrow we can start headhunting for someone who can do training.
Finding a villager with actual training? That's like looking for a needl that's in another hay stack. We'd be better off training themselves, wouldn't we? Assuming that we can or legally allowed to do so. Which I'm not all a fan of.
>>
>>2601592
There's gotta be some crusty old veteran somewhere, the fantasy dark empire is always really militarized, and ours is fighting constant wars. And not just within the village, there's farms, other villages etc.

Imagine having a competent peasant militia, and recruiting professional troops. Imagine what a boost to our career it would be to actually build up the areas defenses and produce a company of soldiers rather than just sitting on our asses and collecting taxes like the last boss.
>>
>>2601545
Yeah. But it would help smooth things over. We show that we’re not a monster and that we regret the events that lead up to the conflict. We can rally them against the terrorists and gain some more useful garrison units.
>>
>>2601639
>>2601667
But they're farmers. Their jobs in life is to farm so that their labors may feed the queendom. You can't have an army if you can't feed it.
Besides, we have some guys on their way.
>>
>>2601667
>>2601586

There's nothing wrong with attempting to recruit, but those peasants are still in mourning. At least wait a month before we even think about recruiting from them.
>>
>>2601694
>>2601508
Speaking of peasants, how many living ones are left in the village?
>>
>>2601677
I'm not saying we turn the whole damn village into a pike regiment.

We make a militia, they are still peasants who do peasant stuff. But they know which end of the spear to hold, will watch for trouble in their daily activities, and can be called up in a pinch.

We don't have the money or recruiting pool for a serious garrison *yet*. But we may be put in charge of a larger region if we are seen as proactive. That's when we start building a professional force, using the militias as a recruiting ground.

We can make sure to send a letter asking nicely if we have too.

>>2601667
Lets leave them be anon. We didn't know these men.
When a criminal gets iced by a cop, do you think the family wants to see the cop at the funeral?
>>
>>2601694

>>
>>2601700
>When a criminal gets iced by a cop, do you think the family wants to see the cop at the funeral?
exactly.
I at least agree with you about the militia part. Maybe a month from now.
>>
>>2601705
Ah good we're on the same page concerning that.
>>
>>2601708
>>2601700
Then we wait. Wait for the guys to arrive in a week and plan how to smooth things over until thier arrival.

We should rest for now. Take note of the stock and storage and give the cart bearers the names of the three men.
>>
>>2601746
Also get a cot for the hero and the three men. See if there is any lasting effects of the scratching across her back and see if there is any need for immediate tending. If not then we shouldn’t speak to her until the day before the men from up above come. Let her stew in her thoughts. Possibly seperate her from the other prisoners. Isolate her.
>>
We need to agree on one thing.

So right now we have:
>supplies check (food stores, resources)
>recruitment planning
> >>2601759

What else? What should be the most important thing we can do as of now?

I’m worried of infection and other things for the pet hero.

Food supplies are really important and should probably be the most immediate concern.

Recruitment, while useful for man power and regional strength, can be held back for a few days. At least until reinforcements arrive from the capital.
>>
As we are now our priorities are finally getting some reinforcements from the army, and make sure to look good when they get here to check the condition of the village and the prisoner.
Meanwhile we wait for the laborers to dig up some space and possibly train up the goblins.
Teamwork with the wolves?

That means we've got time to plan on how we want to move from here: whether affirm a more solid position over the land (and maybe become a prefect, governor or something similar) or rising up the military ranks.
In the latter case we can either specialize more as a living tank, or get some options and diversificate. If I remember correctly magic was available, even if rare.
Thoughts?
>>
>>2601791
My vote is for military, but lets cross that bridge when we get to it. Dicking around with the village is a means to an end.

The rest I agree with. The gobbos are going to be fucking awesome skirmishers with the wolves, and that might be something that could be applied to the kingdoms forces as a whole.
>>
>>2601791
>>2601800
But what do we do *now*
>>
>>2601789
>>2601800
Check with the herbalist.
Seriously the alchemy kit would have been a waste of money if we don't use it.
>>
>>2601805
Reading is a useful skill anon

>As we are now our priorities are finally getting some reinforcements from the army, and make sure to look good when they get here to check the condition of the village and the prisoner.
Meanwhile we wait for the laborers to dig up some space and possibly train up the goblins.
Teamwork with the wolves?

And I supported that.

Basically lets unfuck this garrison.
>>
>>2601813
Chill your ass purple boy.

Goblins are notoriously difficult to train and besides, there is no immediate threat and we have reinforcements coming soon. We should definitely unfuck the garrison but we need to know what all we have first. As >>2601677 said, we can’t have an army if we can’t feed it.

>>2601791
Definitely we should work on ties with Resis. But thing is, >>2601700 we killed a quarter of their people. Most likely the quarter that is actually suitable for combat ie the young and stupid kind that would follow us into battle. Recruitment is off the table since we probably killed off all the one capable of wielding swords and pikes.

But in general
>Unfuck the garrison

Personally think >>2601759 is the best option. Maybe use the potion if she is infected. And later incognito into the town and talk with the herbalist.

You decide to do a quick check of your supplies while you wait for the peasants to clear out.

It looks like you have enough supplies to last a whole month with your current garrison, but you are not sure how long they would last if you significantly increased the size of your garrison force.

With your supply situation squared away, you return to the peasants retrieving bodies to see them loading the last body on to a cart, The five of them are re-blindfolded and led out of the base with the cart of bodies. Outside arrayed around the entrance was what you can only assume is the entire population of Resis. At the sight of the bodies a wail arises from the amassed crowd, mothers, sisters, and daughters, cling to each other, while the men stand still and stone faced. As the cart moves toward Resis the crowd move with it and a funeral dirge starts.

You watch the procession until it vanishes from sight, before addressing the assembled goblins, "Alright you lot its time we began your training,"

The goblins start to grumble and whisper before Grintol steps forward, "But, sir we already know how to fight,"

"Yes you do, you know how to fight and brawl, but what we are doing today is not fighting lessons, today you will all learn how to launch a successful ambush in tandem with the wolves you've trained Grintol."

The grumbling starts again but at lower tones. "Enough, Grintol get the wolves, the rest of you follow me, training starts now,"

> 2 Successes

The goblins take to your instruction quite well, despite their grumbling. Using the tall grasses as cover you instruct them on how to launch a successful ambush using the wolves, after going over the process multiple times, you try for a test run.

You walk around the foot paths in the grass waiting for them to ambush you, every time you see or hear them you scream for a stop and the goblins must try again, by the third try you stop seeing them, and by the eighth you stop hearing them, it is on that eighth try that you are surprised by Grintol leaping out of the grasses in front of you, as you prepare to give him a strike on the head with your halberd for such an idiotic attack angle, something slams into your back with enough force to topple you. When you pick yourself out of the dirt you see a wolf standing just behind you. "Clever," you commend Grintol, before you call a resumption of the drills. You continue the drills until dusk, so that the goblins on guard duty had a chance to swap out and learn. Finally when you are aching from being pounced on and sweating from picking yourself up innumerable times, you call an end to the drills.

"Good work, I think you have all got it down, now rest up before your next shift, I don't want sleepy sentries," The goblins grumble and wander back into the base.

The rest you find is fitful, as your recent discussions with Selenas has stirred your memories of your time fighting the elves. There is pain in your memories, but from the pain lessons and experiences you will never forget.

You awake feeling older but wiser for it. Rising from your bed you don your armor before walking out into the cool dungeon hallways.

You, decide to try and upgrade the traps of the maze once again, but what exactly did you want to improve.

>Design a new trap [Hard DC, Expensive to implement, Greatly increases maze deadliness]

>General trap improvement [Easy DC, cheap to implement, Slight increase of maze deadliness]

Sorry I should clarify the first time you will make a prototype to see if the trap will even work, to add the trap to the dungeon, it will cost money, your own.

So is making the design the DC check, for something we can shelve for later when we have the money, or is the construction of the prototype the DC check, which means we have to spend money?

The prototype is free and the DC is to make the design.

Later we need to check on the pet hero to see about her previous wounds since we didn't do anything to clean them. Other than that I don't think we should talk with her much until later.

But we should get herbalist know-how to be able to produce more of the health pots. Also think we need to see about talking with the leader of the villager sometime.

EZ DC

>3 Successes

You stare at the schematics for only a short while before seeing a way to improve the traps, You quickly run out to the maze to test your theory.

"YES!" you exclaim "It works." Using more and tauter strings for your blade traps, a counter weight for the ceiling drop trap, and some springs for your pitfall traps, you have managed to get your traps to reset once after firing, so it can be triggered again. Finally an improvement that works.

The materials to upgrade the traps shouldn't cost much and are easily acquirable from any town.

>>
I don't know why you guys want to check out the town in incognito mode, but whatever gets us that meeting with the herbalist.
>>
>>2604464
Because, we can go waltzing around in full kit once our reinforcements come. Right now we need to keep a bit of distance and monitor the atmosphere. Sure they could have seemed to have agreed with us about the heros, but unless we know for sure these guys are on our side we should always expect an ambush around the corner.

If we're going incognito (which will be harder after that speech we gave...unless our armor covers our face too?) then the barkeep would be a good place to hit alongside the herbalist.

If not, then we should wait on that. We can't be going around like "My name is Baldr Blooddragon, and this is my favorite bar in the village." until things are kosher everywhere.

Guys no, they don't know our face and would be a waste of an advantage. We should drag him into the dungeon and then walk back into town. Show the dead bandit and say we were attacked on our way out of the village.

Later when the villagers plea for us to deal with the bandits, we can be like "okay!" and then come back with one and perform the public execution. But for now, we need to lay low for a bit.

We can torture the guy in a hallway or something away from the cages.
>>
>>2607223
He's a bandit and we have the scars to prove it. Also I've already said that we should isolate the hero. We should do that when we get back from our trip. The vault, or somewhere she can't escape. She is chained up all we have to do is attach the chains to something in the vault. Besides we don't even have that much in there. Give her one of the cots from the barracks or some of the goblin blankets
>>
At some point we need to let Selenas out of the kennel. When will be the time to do so?

Probably when we get her wounds taken care of and we have gotten a little much farther with her belief processes.

>letting out the hero
I only think we should let her out when we know for certain that she will not try running off and gathering all her buddies to gank us. Also I believe we shouldn't allow the three prisoners to know that she is still alive after the week is up. That is why we should get her isolated and keep her away from outside influences.

She is basically another boss unit for us, or waifu material if you wish, but we can basically use her as a right hand. She is a decent combatant and will prove useful as a sergeant or a lieutenant for our dungeon since she has, although very limited, experience in leading. If we Isolate her we can gain total control over what she hears and possibly what she thinks. She seems to be extremely impressionable as we can see she is already questioning her beliefs after only a few days. If we press her on certain things, like who she has left, and continue to convince her that she has been wrong the entire time, we could probably get her to become loyal in a short time.

Convince her that she cannot leave this place. She cannot go to the village since they blame her, she cannot go to the other so called heroes because she is a failure, and she cannot go to the queen because she is a terrorist. Though, with our recommendation, she can be forgiven of her sins against the great matriarch.

>Drag the unconscious man into Resis for a public execution, the standard procedure for bandits.
Safety is the responsibility of all citizens, and how we should all band together for a safer, stabler Resis.
>>
Remember that we are in stealth mode. We should go back to our lair to equip our armor first then execute the bandit. Let remind the peasants that we keep them safe.
>>
A reminder that we're walking around with a cracked skull and possibly a concussion to boot, considering that bandit may as well have been a baseball batter in his past life. We really should get that looked at ASAP regardless of what big plans we might have.

Oh yeah,
>>2607211
means to

>bring him home,

If we bring him to the village and be like "hurr durr we just found these guys, to the chopping block" We will run into two problems.
1) We are incognito, We haven't revealed our faces and if we go now then we will have to reveal our face.
2) We are heavily wounded, If we arrive with a bandit in tow and say we defeated these guys they will probably think us weak since we already have given them more leeway than their previous warden and if their new warden can't even deal with a few bandits with sticks, then how would we be able to deal with another uprising?
3) We have no markings of our wardenship, If we go strutting into the village and start chopping off this dude's head in the middle of the street we can really only be seen as an aggressor or some mad man. They don't know who we are and from the way the hero reacted when we revealed our face, they probably don't even know if we're even human.

Take a second and think things out.

>we need to bring this guy back, take the dead guy and bring him to the village, and then get healed by the herbalist and chat with them.

our defense is -1 so we too 19 damage with 1/20HP

Not sure what kind of cudgel does 16 damage, but I think our sword does 10 with the bonuses. I'm not sure how the rolls work desu. Seems to be 3 rolls for both sides, one with highest total - lowest = damage then you add the bonuses afterwards? Not sure.

the damage for combat works like this

(average of your rolls) - (average of enemy rolls) = (damage dealt) whoever has the higher average does the left over damage

the real reason the cudgel hurt so bad was because of the crit

Crits work like this if you get a critical but less average damage the damage from the enemies dice is halved, If your average damage is higher than your attacks dice damage is doubled.

So for example:

>your rolls (20,15,10) [15] - enemy rolls (6,5,4) [5] = 10 damage X2 from crit = 20 damage

>your rolls (20,2,2) [8] - enemy rolls (19,18,17) [18]= -10 damage X1/2 from crit = 5 damage dealt to you

and crit fails work in the opposite way

>your rolls (1,14,15)[10] - enemy rolls (5,4,3) [4] = 6 damage X1/2 from crit fail = 3 damage

>your rolls (1,5,9) [5] - enemy rolls (11,10,9) [10] = -5 damage X2 from crit fail = 10 damage dealt to you

You almost died to a series of very unfortunate rolls, but look on the bright side you survived.

With your head pounding you decide it was best to just end these two and then get some treatment, you walk over to the unconscious man, rest your blade on his heart and force your sword between his ribs, the highwayman's eyes open filled with terror before closing again, his body still.

One last thing to do check the bodies for money, checking the two men's pockets you find a total of 2 gold between them, robbing peasants wasn't the most profitable business but you are glad for the money anyway.

The bodies cleared, you walk away from the scene heading toward Resis. As you approach the town, you can feel the effects of the potion wearing off, aches and pain return to your body, your vision becomes blurry, and your pounding headache gets worse.

You think back to your conversation with the barkeeper, the herbalist/healer should be on the western edge of town looking out that direction you see a small hut just outside of town. You stubble towards it each step becoming harder, when you finally reach the door to the herbalists hut you walk in your vision turning black.

> 2 Successes

You fight hard, focusing on the interior of the hut, the darkness edges away from your vision as you steady yourself on a wooden chair. All around you hanging from every available space in the hut were herbs and other plants drying.

"Help," you call out in to the hut, no response.

"HEY," you shout the sound making your head pound.

Walking out of a side room was a young lad of about 12, seeing you he gasps before turning back to the side room and shouting "Master, there is an injured man here!" coming quickly out of the room was an older man his light brown hair graying in most places, upon seeing you he rushes over and takes your weight, "Isaac, boil some water and add Bitter Root, Kan, and some Mint." The young man hurries off into the side room.

"Now tell me what happened," the herbalist says as he seats you in the chair.

"Highwaymen clubbed me in the head," you say through gritted teeth.

"Probably a concussion then," mutters the herbalist as shifts his attention to your head, he presses his fingers to your head, and you wince in pain "Possibly a cracked skull as well, now you just wait here my assistant will be back any minute." He says as he rises away from you and starts to select herbs from around the hut.

You sit for a few minutes in blinding pain until the young boy returns with a pot of steaming liquid. He pours you a cup of the drink and offers it to you. You sip the liquid and find it to be not as hot as you thought, you drink deeply finishing the cup. Within seconds your eyelids feel heavy and then slam closed.

You awake on a cot to find all of your pain gone, no not gone but merely extremely muted, noticing your stirring the herbalist rises from a table and stands next to you.

“How are you feeling?”

“Better,” you answer.

“Good,”

A silence fills the air.

"James," you say. You couldn't lift this charade, not when you were like this.

"Ah well, James, when you came in you said something about highwaymen, and judging by the blood on your sword and how you managed to stumble in here, I assume you won this scuffle with these highwaymen, very impressive, it's just a shame you had to be the one to kill those criminals. This new warden is slacking, ever since the attack by the hero, bandits and criminals have been moving in, its getting hazardous to travel. I haven't seen one patrol of guard yet from our new warden, it makes me wonder just how strong his control is"

Just because we disagree with the herbalist doesn’t make it that we give away our identity. That’s like saying that if you say that you’re not so sure a presidential candidate is such a bad person means that you are the presidential candidate yourself.

It was time to let Selenas out for a walk she had spent almost a week now in that cage, it couldn’t be good for her.

You descend down into the kennels and open the door to Selenas’s cage. “C’mon Selenas up and out you need to stretch your legs.” Rising shakily to her feet Selenas steps out of the cage and immediately falls over, catching her, you help her up and let her lean on you as she walks the kennels.

While you both walk you speak with Selenas “How are your wounds?” You ask.

“The ones you gave me are fine, they have healed, but I think I have a rash on my legs.”

Stopping for a moment you examine her legs, they seemed fine, soft, milky white, and silky. You fight back the thoughts that snaked their way into your head as you looked further up. The fronts of her thighs were fine but on back and up toward her butt you could see red, raw skin with small dots of blood. A quick glance at her cage showed that the bottom was rusted and jagged pieces of metal were uplifted inside, no wonder her thighs were like this.

“You do have a rash, but I might be able to help with that, lets finish the walk and then I’ll see what I can do,”

"Come with me," you say turning away from her cage, "We are going to get your legs treated," she follows a obediently behind you as you head for the stairs.

On the way you speak with the goblin on guard, "Find some boards to cover the bottom of that cage, have it done before I come back” The guard nods and steps to it as you head upstairs to your chambers.

Once Selenas realizes that you are headed toward bedchambers, she hesitates stopping behind you, “c’mon,” you say pulling her closer, “This is just where my books on medicine are, relax.” Her resistance slackens only slightly as you pull her into the room.

“Alright now one moment while I find a recipe for salve,” You lean over your desk with the primer on it and begin flipping through the pages. The first half of the book seems to be full of pictures and descriptions of different plants, as you go on you find a section of recipes for some simple poultices and other sundries, and in the middle of that section you find some entries on salves, most salves start with a base of oil and then some herbs are added to increase healing. Many of the recipes have ingredients you have never seen or heard of, but one has at least some recognizable ingredients, it starts with base of honey, then it needs sniffle weed, a common weed that grows everywhere, and lastly some mint.

You make a quick trip to the barracks and find one of your goblins settling down from his shift, “One moment solider, before you relax, go outside and get me some sniffle weed, you know what that is right.” The goblin gives you a tired look and a nasally sigh before he nods and walks toward the maze.

Next you open the treasury and retrieve the jar of honey from inside and then you search your food stocks for mint leaves finding some you mash together some of the honey with the mint leaves together in a small wooden bowl. When you finish your goblin returns with a bouquet of the weeds. According to the recipe you would want to mash the stalks of the plants to squeeze out the oils. Using the flat of your knife you squeeze the oil out into the honey mixture, and stir the concoction.

“Here try this,” you say as you offer the salve to Selenas. Taking a scoop with her fingers she rubs the salve onto her thighs.

“It’s cooling,” she says as she rubs more of the salve into her rash, “Thank you.”

You lead Selenas back down to her cage; the goblin on duty had placed several wooden planks over the rusted metal bottom. You lead her back into the cage, and give her the rest of the salve, “There,” you say satisfied with your work.

>Question Selenas some more on her friends.

We should keep her in the treasury.

1)It’s the most secure place in the dungeon
2)We don’t have anything in there, if we do we can just take the dangerous stuff from it and put it in our room.
3) No one is allowed in there except for us since we have the key.

We can just move the stuff like a cot and blankets into the vault.

Yeah, no I agree with you on the jail part. It's just that our luck is really bad with the dice rolls on the digging. We really need a place that isn't the kennels to hold people. With Selenas's condition taken care of you walk back to your room, to resume reading the primer that the herbalist had given you. You flip over to the recipe section and begin flipping through searching for anything useful to you.

After flipping through most of the section, it becomes apparent to you that this book was not going to be very helpful when it came to recipes; most of the ones you look at are for perfumes, spices for cooking, or for keeping away flies. The recipe section wasn't entirely useless however; you do find a recipe for some kind of poultice, used to help disinfect and heal wounds. You also find the recipe for the drink that Haran gave to you it is some kind of pain reliever and sedative. Lastly you find a recipe for some kind of cleansing herbal brew that from the description is supposed to help cleanse toxins from the body, it also helps with hangovers.

>Recipes Learned: Disinfecting Poultice, Soothing Tea, Detox shot.

You can feel the weight on your eyelids and your head starts to ache as you jot down the important recipes from the book. The ingredients for the recipe were unfamiliar to your eyes, so even though you knew the names of the ingredients, you couldn’t spot them in the wild.

First things first you had to see what kind of mark that highwayman's cudgel left on you, Filling a bucket with water you stare at your reflection in the torch light. Right in the middle of your forehead was a nasty looking bruise about the size of your fist, it was almost perfectly circular you realize as you trace its outside curve with your fingers. As long as you leave it alone it should disappear, but in the meantime it would be best to protect your head inside your helmet.

After finishing examining your wound you do a quick round of the traps, at which time you are reminded that you forgot to purchase the supplies you needed to upgrade them when you were in town.

It was time to see what you could do about putting a patrol together to see what you could do about, the increase in bandits that Haran mention. You proceed into the barracks to find Grintol laying down to rest. “Grintol good timing, I was just about to get a squad together to go on patrol and-“

‘No sir,” Grintol cuts you off.

“Excuse me solider?” you say your voice rising.

“I can’t sir, none of us can, we have been stretched so thin, taking double shifts and getting so little sleep. We just can’t anymore sir, I almost fell asleep on my last watch.”

Grintols bloodshot and dark circled eyes stare at you almost pleading to let him rest.

You quickly round up the peasants on work duty and put them back in their cages before taking a single wolf with you to watch the entrance.

As you stand at the entrance a sense of mind numbing nostalgia comes to you as remember your previous time spent on guard duty while you were out in the northeastern section of the eleven woods. It had been mostly quiet up there, and you had spent a long amount of time guarding the outside of camp with nothing happening for hours. It was much the same as what you were currently doing, as you stood the sun crept across the sky, up and up until reaching its zenith and then coming back down, down, down. It is then legs weary and back stiff, you are relieved by a much fresher faced looking goblin.

Now it appeared you had some free time, you could rest, you feel worn out from your time guarding and you'll need that rest if you want to continue helping with the guard shifts, or you could do something else:

>What do you do?

So far we know there is a small forest and a short-ish walk to the village. Not so much about anything else. A small walk around the fort to stretch your legs would be just what you needed to shake off your weariness from your shift, but first you do a quick check of the prisoners, the peasants seem to be enjoying their day off sleeping in their cage while Selenas was rubbing more salve onto her legs. Nothing was amiss on your way out the goblin on guard gives you a wakeful nod with a muttered "Thanks for the rest," as you ascend the stairs.

You walk to the top of the hill your base was built into and survey the surrounding landscape. Grasses and fields as far as your eyes can see. Turning to your left you see a stand of trees not too far away. Then, on your right, a stream snaking its way through the land and filling a large pond. Directly behind you was a set of rolling hills.

You are about to set out when, another thought strikes you; maybe the book has something that might increase energy and could perk up your soldiers

You head back inside and to your room to crack open the book once more to see what you could find on something that might increase energy.

>Search the recipes for what you want, maybe you overlooked something
>Go to the plants section and see if there are any that might increase energy.
>Just start from the beginning and go through.

Might as well keep an eye out for plants on our patrol for the garden.

>This will be my last post for the night. Tomorrow will be a new thread and should be the arrival of your reinforcements.

You flip to the plants section and start skimming pages until you find a plant called Expin. According to the section it is a plant commonly found in lakes and ponds that when brewed into an extremely potent tea that elevates a person’s heart rate. This might be just what you need to perk these soldiers up, but at this late hour it would be ill advised to go harvest plants.

>Rest for now and take up the midnight to dawn guard shift.
>Rest all night.
>Damn the dark your soldiers need that plant.

Keep reading for useful plants, then go to bed.

OK that is doable, but please also specify if you wish to take up the midnight to dawn guard shift, or sleep all night.

Sleep all night. Because we need our rest too.

I honestly can't wait until we get ourselves a larger garrison so we can work on more projects. Hopefully the queen will pull at least twelve guys for us so we can have at the very least a five man patrol around the area. I really don't like the idea of the area around us turning into a lawless cesspool. Once we get a bit of a padding for our garrison we should start bringing in the workers. We said to the people of Resis that we will send out the three guys held up in the kennels at the end of the week (which seems to be tomorrow). We need to get a proper prison as well. >>2614160 High security and low security cells to hold different levels of dangerous people.

Also how should we deal with our pet hero? She seems to be receptive of our words and she seems to think on them more than expected. I'm hoping to turn her into a kind of bodyguard but I don't think I trust her at all and any advances she makes should 100% be seen as disingenuous and probably up to something. Maybe we should talk to her a bit tomorrow and see how she is. A short chat with the rebellion head. She seems naive and susceptible to our influence as well as pretty angry/disappointed at the people who she once looked up towards. Honestly it's not necessarily her fault but rather the poisonous influence of the so-called heroes who only wanted to use her to gain a foothold in this region.

So a master plan should be eventually to gain favor with the Queen, but to do that we need to prove we are able to properly handle management of armies as well as the delicate relations with her subjects. We need to establish a strong authority within the town Resis and quell any issues they might have. Protection seems to be paramount to them as well as freedom and the ability to actually enjoy that freedom.

So for tomorrow I'm thinking of this general plan though I'm not sure what time the reinforcements would show up maybe some time during the afternoon or evening so I'll place it in the middle.
>Talk with Selenas in the morning, inquire about her some more. Get to know her and "Sympathize" with her.
>Link up with reinforcements and talk with the town's Mayor/Eldar and address the town as a whole afterwards (release the prisoners at this point)
>Make preparations for training a local militia and patrol routes for the garrison. Get more local labor to work on the dungeon. I'm thinking the next build project should be a prison. We need to, however, organize with the locals to work on food stores and see what we can do to keep our guys fed.

I like this plan Anon.

I’m fully expecting everything selenas has said to be lies and is simply waiting for us to come under attack before trying to escape.

It never hurts to be careful. Hell I'd keep her imprisoned for another week or two. And keep up the brainwashing.
>>
>>2620658
That could potentially degrade our efforts the longer we keep her in there.

It doesn't have to be imprisonment within the kennels, house arrest works just as well. Of course House Arrest comes with it's own fresh set of tasty problems, but we'll figure it out.
