After taking a moment to recover, you all head back out. Lynna seems rather pleased with her Gale Boomerang, giving it a couple more testing throws to make sure she has the hang of it. Horon places his hands behind his head, commenting, “You seem to be a natural at that thing.”

Bashfully, Lynna tells him, “Well, I’ve gotten plenty of practice using a boomerang back home. I’ve won a few of the games back home that involve it.”

The boy tilts his head slightly. “Games?”

“W-well, there are many shops back home that have these games, most of them with prizes available. I’m really good at the crane game there.”

Horon seems shocked. “Y-you can beat that thing?! No way! They’re totally rigged!” he declares, an expression on his face one all too familiar with losing such a game many, many times.

Lynna giggles. “If we make it out of here, I can show you.”

“When we make it out of here.” you add in reassuringly. “Which is still after we clear out the thing plaguing the Great Deku Tree.”

With the Gale Boomerang retrieved, where to next?

>A. Horon, you want to take the lead again? You helped us find the Gale Boomerang, so you seem to be honing your intuition well
>B. Suggest heading towards the other open door

“Lynna, when we return to the main area, it might be a good idea to try the Gale Boomerang against the corruption blocking the other doors.” you suggest to the young woman.

“That’s a good idea.” Horon comments. “Should open up the other paths for us.”

You all hurry past the foggy hall and back to the main basement room. Lynna takes out the Gale Boomerang and, after taking a moment to target the corruption covering the doors, throws it forth. The boomerang smacks into each of the eyes covering the doors in quick succession, and the corrupting ooze covering them starts to slink away.

Lynna catches the Boomerang proudly, smiling back at you all. “Done and done!”

“So where to next?” Aveli asks aloud.

“Hmm... may be something in that door that was already open.” you suggest, your eyes looking towards it.

“But if they sealed away the Gale Boomerang in that door,” Horon motions behind you, “Maybe it was because the things are hiding something that we need it for.”

“A reasonable deduction.” Sheik comments.

>A. Not like the doors are going anywhere, and if the corruption comes back we can dispel it once more. Let’s try the previously open door

A smile appears on your lips. “That is a good point, Horon. Feel free to lead the way.”

He proudly puffs his chest up, then looks between the two new doors. “Hmm... I’m betting... the one opposite the room holding the Gale Boomerang will be the important one. Okay, let’s go!”

He starts marching forward, the rest of you following. Lynna still seems rather pleased with her new tool, and you notice she’s carrying herself a bit more confidently. Sheik steps back a bit, walking along with you. Quietly, she comments, “Seems he is picking things up fairly quickly.”

You nod. “And I am glad for that. Sound reasoning is a sure sign he is starting to understand the duties of a Hero better.”

Thankfully, the coridor between the main basement room and the door Horon chose is not a mirror of the one you were just in. A few vine-covered pots and some fog, but it is a short walk to the next room. Once you enter, you all see a vaguely octagonal area covered in roots and vines, with a large, important-looking chest in the center... resting on a pillar, surrounded by pulsing, oozing, corrupted vines. Eyes seem to appear and vanish inside the vines, blocking the chest off completely.

>A. Lynna, you’re up

As the young woman readies the Gale Boomerang, you look over to Horon. “Horon, might be a good idea to help Lynna with this.” you mention to the boy. “While the boomerang can strike down the corruption, the vines might need an extra push.”

“Fair enough.” he replies with a smirk, readying his gloves. The boomerang flies around, smacking each of the eyes that form in the corrupted vines; at the same time, Horon makes sure to blast at it with fire, trailing the attack to both ensure they don’t grow back, and to blast at the vines underneath the corruption once there’s a slight opening. The plan works!

...And as it works, something above you all shrieks. And then another, and another, and another, until finally you hear five in total. As the corruption dissipates, the vines seem to fall down... with bulbous “heads” revealed to be attached to the roots forming the ceiling.

“Deku Babas?” Aveli comments as they all fall down to the ground... and turn to you. And look at you. “...Deku Babas don’t usually have eyes, right?”

“Bio Babas!” Felicia shouts out, vine-like “arms” pushing the foes up as they start to advance. “Be careful!”

“Let’s go!” you shout, readying your blade. As the monsters advance, you thrust forward and fire a Sword Beam at the closest Bio Baba, hitting true but not hard enough to end it immediately. The monster makes a leap at you, its jaws missing you but “head” still hitting with enough force to hurt.

[Hearts: 8/9]

Aveli strikes next, swinging the Biggoron’s Sword forward and cleaving a Bio Baba with ease. Horon likewise casts a fireball out, blazing up the third monster. The remaining two advance upon you, both leaping. This time though, you’re ready. You bring out your other sword and parry, recalling what Linkle taught you, and then with the monster off-guard, you give an upward slash that finishes the monster off. Sheik uses her superior agility to dodge and stab the final Bio Baba, avoiding its pounce and pouncing in return. All the monsters’ corpses all lay prone, finally disappearing into black mist. The path to the chest is free, though you’ll need to hookshot for it.

“Termina, are you okay?” Lynna asks you.

You shake your head. “I can look for something out of our spoils, you should head for that chest up there.” You point your thumb up at the object in question, then search through. Thankfully you’re able to heal up enough to recover the minor damage taken, and you get a nice little blue Rupee for your trouble.

[Hearts: 9/9]
[Rupees: 265/500]

Lynna heads up to retrieve the item inside the chest...

...and looks like Horon was right on the money. That is definitely a Boss Key.

Lynna carefully makes her way back down, Sheik helping her, and brings the Key to you all. Aveli places her arms behind her head. “Well well, maybe we’ll be done with this quickly.”

“...Something’s telling me we won’t.” Horon comments. “There might be more Keys like this hidden away somewhere.”

“I think we should be thorough, clear out the bottom level first before heading up.” you suggest.

“Well, we’ve got what we need from here, but I guess one last look couldn’t hurt.” Horon replies, leading the way.

The northern-most door is relatively quiet, for once. No monsters, but still some of the corruption around the area. Lynna makes quick work of it with her Gale Boomerang, and for her trouble she finds a chest with a Key inside. Seems she’s really getting some use out of her new tool.

The other door, however, is not as quiet. A chest sits opposite the doorway, blocked by corrupted vines and several smaller black Chuchus. And none of them look friendly.

You bring out a bomb and toss it at the Chuchus... though it seems your toss was a bit sloppy, and your timing way off. The bomb doesn’t really make it and proceeds to gently roll across the ground towards the monsters... with the closest one smacking its face against it and hurling it back at you.

“DUCK!” Horon shouts, everyone trying to get to cover. Sheik seems to instinctively try to get you out of harm’s way, but doesn’t quite make it. The bomb explodes, knocking the both of you back. Goddesses does it hurt. Searing pain jolts across your whole body. Sheik similarly doesn’t look too good.

[Hearts: 5/9]

The monsters try to advance on you to finish the job, but luckily you’re able to bring up your shield just in time, smacking one away. And right as it’s pushed back, Lynna tosses the Gale Boomerang and manages to corral the monsters together. Horon then blasts the group with a barrage of fireballs, with Aveli using the Belt of Wind to come in and deliver a finishing blow to the group.

As you push yourself to your feet, groaning lowly, Lynna almost leaps at you. “Wh-where does it hurt the most? D-don’t move, I can help! Just give me a moment...” she tells you in a panicked tone.

This... could have gone better.

You sit back and point to your wounds. “Nayru’s... Passion.” A soft glow flows from her hands as she gently presses on you. You flinch at first, but a calming warmth fills up your body. Your strength returns and your wounds start to disappear. Doesn’t get you back to full strength, but it does get you close enough.

[Hearts: 8/9]

Lynna then jumps over to look through the monsters’ spoils, and to her relief finds something to help her recover her magic. She next attends to Sheik’s wounds. The Sheikah girl looks away. “I must apologize for not getting you out of the way in time, Termina.”

“It was my fault. I miscalculated.” you tell her in response.

“How about we not try to take blame and instead be happy that the wounds were less serious than they appeared.” Lynna interrupts, patting Sheik on the shoulder when she’s done and helping the girl up.

Horon crosses his arms. “Might need to be more careful in the future, Termina. These monsters are clearly smarter than normal. Even with all of us together, they have a tricks up their sleeves.”

“I will certainly hold off on the bombs for a while.” you reply with a friendly chuckle.

The boy nods. “Well, good. When should keep that in mind when we find the princess, don’t want to put her in danger.”

Aveli seems to look away from him, rubbing the back of her helmet, as Sheik briefly glances at you. To your surprise, you notice a brief frown appear on Lynna’s lips, the young woman quickly turning to look over at the chest, clearing out the corruption and vines with the Gale Boomerang. She peeks inside the chest, then looks back. “Well, this could certainly help in this kind of situation. There’s a Piece of Heart in here.”

“I do not require one.” Sheik states.

“U-um, I’m good, really.” Lynna states shyly.

You move up to the previous floor, making sure that what’s left of it is cleared out. You notice that some of the corruption has returned, Lynna quickly flinging her Gale Boomerang at it to clear it. To your group’s surprise, that causes the tree to somehow rumble... wait, no, it’s not the Great Deku Tree doing it himself. Something above you is moving. And as it does... the corruption starts to slink away, moving up the tree.

“Well well, looks like we’re making some good progress.” Horon comments. Some of the fog still lingers in the area, but no monsters seem to be forming in it, thankfully.

“So we’re at two of these Boss Keys, and the thing causing this is definitely above us...” Lynna deduces.

“I think it might be a good idea to scout out vertically, just to be sure. Allow me to do so, I will be quick.” you tell your allies.

“Please be careful.” Sheik tells you.

Once you return to the main level, you decide it’s best to check on where the source of this corruption is. You bring out your hookshot and take aim above you, seeing how high it can go first. To your surprise, not even your hookshot can reach the ceiling, but it can just barely get to the edge of the highest level. You head up there and move up from the ledge, then take a moment to survey the rest of the Great Deku Tree.

You’re at the highest level, currently, the fourth floor. To your surprise, there’s a large and important-looking door not on your level, but on the one right below. Seems to be around where the Great Deku Tree’s eye is, if you remember correctly. And... agh. There are FIVE keyholes in total. So looks like you’ve still got a bit of work ahead of you. There are six more doors that you see aside from the Boss Door, one on the highest level, two on the level below you, one on the level below that, and two more on the second level.

...Aaaand to make matters worse, there are some of the Mist Moblins lurking on the two levels below you, the second and third floors. You carefully Hookshot down back to the main level and explain what you’ve seen.

“FIVE keys?!” Horon exclaims. “And lots of doors to go through. Damn, this is going to be a pain.”

“Well, we need to keep up the pace.” Aveli states. “And I’m itching for a little payback against those monsters.”

>A. We need to focus on the monsters first
>B. Let’s do what we’ve been doing, head up to the next level, there’s an open door before the monsters’ patrol
>C. Let’s try to start from the top, and head down
>D. Something else?

It's a slog, but clearing out everything as we go is our best chance of success.

This. We've got to be thorough.

“We should not rush this. Slow but steady, next floor. The monsters’ patrols do not reach the closest door, so it would be best to head there.”

“Makes sense. Okay, I’ll lead the way then! Let’s go, ladies!” Horon declares proudly, marching forward.

“Well, seems someone’s eager.” Aveli moves up behind him.

“I do hope that will not lead to overconfidence again.” Sheik comments to you as you move along.

You reach the door and step inside. There is a relatively small room with a chest in the middle and a significant amount of fog on the wood floor. In fact... a suspicious amount of it. Horon starts to head forward, taking a few steps... and almost slipping down a ledge. Aveli grabs him by the cape and pulls him back. Horon gulps as he looks down; a very, very deep pit surrounds the chest in the center. And in the pit is bubbling, oozing, malicious corruption awaits at the bottom. There is a branch leading from where you are into the room, but you can barely even see the start of it.

It seems the chest is guarded by a maze, shrouded in fog and with a nasty surprise awaiting those who fail it. Looks like you will have to be careful.

All right folks, that's it for this thread. Going to try to run again this Friday. Sorry it was a little short, and sorry again for things taking so long to run again. I’ll be around for a bit for questions and such. Did y’all have fun?

Aye, good times.

Also, announcing my intent to circumvent mazes and puzzles with lateral thinking and outright cheating, out of years of gaming spite. Enable or subdue this as you see fit.

I'm just glad everything is okay, Kato. Missed these threads a lot, but sounded like things were getting pretty tough for you. Good to see you back.

Glad to hear! And by all means, if you end up with an idea on circumventing this, give it a shot. Lateral thinking is encouraged.

>>2730980
Thank you anon, that means a lot. Things have definitely gotten better, so don't worry.

Good to see you back Kato-sensei!
