Margaret and I entered the meeting room, and it appeared that we were the last two to arrive.
“Ah, Kurokawa, there you are.” Captain Suwabe commented as he waved at me to come in and pointed at the empty seat right beside him. “Now that we’re all here, let us begin, shall we?”

I hurriedly took a seat as he began his remarks.

“The day we have all been preparing for has finally come.

While Zipang has lost in the eyes of the world, it cannot be further from the truth… Because we here have not given up the fight, and we have one last trick up our sleeves.

Tonight, we shall commence operation Ten-Go, our first step of taking this country back. We shall strike our enemies hard, when they least expect us- and show them that Zipang and her people will never bend their knees to anyone. Our forefathers had done this time and time before, and following in their footsteps, we will do it again!

Now spend the rest of your time wisely and complete your final preparations.
Remember, the future of Zipang depends upon you- every last one of you.
May Yahata no Kami enlighten your paths.”

Captain Suwabe finished his speech, and with it, everyone dispersed to their respective task groups. Yanagi and Tewi went outside to a storage room, where they would keep everyone informed as the operation proceeded. Hibari went out in her chauffer getup, as she would be assisting Akane in sabotage. Margaret and Ayafumi went with the Captain, the two were tasked to escort him and the others into the Yamato.

I met up Satoru and Itaru in an old storage room that used to contain the resources to be loaded up to Yamato, now entirely cleared as the crew got ready for transporting. What was left was a small, aptly illuminated table lamp and a map of the area, laid on a rather large, burdensome table too heavy and impractical to move. With everything in place, we began planning our operation for the night.

“Only the watchtowers? What about the guards around the palace?” I asked the two. It was understandable to take out the spotters, but nobody had addressed anything about the people stationed there.
“Slight change of plans.” Satoru quipped. “We’ll be taking the princess at the ceremony instead of the palace. Our benefactor has agreed to stage a little scene to make things a bit easier for us.”
“Which means harder for me, right?”
“Your job is pretty much the same: Keep an eye on our backs,” Itaru answered. “There’s no limitation when it comes to your approach as long as both of us are out alive with our precious cargo.”
Itaru wrapped an around Satoru’s neck. “Don’t worry, Kurokawa, we believe in you!” He flashed me a thumbs up. Satoru played up with the marine and nodded in response.

“Nothing for me this time?” I complained half-jokingly. “No Empire-made super silencers, or at least another hand to assist me?”
“Now why would we forget about you?” Satoru shrugged, a silver of enthusiasm seeped through his normally composed self. “Hey Igor!” he hollered at the entrance. “Why don’t come in and meet your new boss? ”

The doors slammed open almost at that very instant, and in steps… a young girl? She had the delicate, vivid facial features and light skin tone attributed to Europans, long, smooth natural blonde hair, eyes as blue as the cloudless sky, and most prominently, a smile as wide and amicable as Margaret’s. Standing roughly as tall as Hibari, this person appeared almost like a life-sized porcelain doll straight out of the workshop of some grandmaster artisan of the Rus.

“Meet Igor Kryvonis, the latest aid sent from our allies of the north, as requested by Akasaka.” Satoru introduces the newcomer. “He’s doesn’t talk much, but he and his folks are the best of the best in the Empire.”
“Isn’t Igor a man’s nam- wait, you said ‘he’?”
I stared at this petite figure in disbelief, as Igor looked right back at me, smiling. This person… has a manhood? I mean, I may not be as masculine as Itaru per say, but even someone like me needed a bit of makeup to look the part.
“Looks can be deceiving, Kurokawa.” Itaru follows up. “See this little fellow? He’s from the Empire’s Commissariat for Internal Affairs, of all places!”
As if to establish his point, he gave the little guy a slap on the back. The force Itaru placed through was evident from the sound that came by. Surprisingly, or perhaps eerily enough, Igor did not budge, let alone flinch a single bit. He stood there very much like a statue, still keeping that impeccable smile on his face.
“As you can see, Mr. Kryvonis doesn’t talk much, but he can understand you.” Satoru explained, adjusting his glasses. “Go on, ask him anything.”

“Can you understand us?”
“Da.”
Igor spoke, his accent was thick, and surprisingly hoarse for his small stature but somehow still maintaining his smile. Despite my initial impressions on him, I slowly, but surely began to see how he might very well be someone who worked in the Empire’s notorious interior ministry.
“Krynvonis-san, you don’t have to smile all the time. It’s a bit… unnerving, to say the truth.”
There was no response from Igor as he just kept up, looking at me straight in the eye.
“Would you kindly take off the smile?”
“Nyet.”
He stood there and wore that smile regardless, which sort of made me feel like an idiot. Though, it was good to know that there wasn’t as huge of a language barrier as I originally feared to be.

I sighed in defeat. “I guess I should go debrief him on what we are doing.”
“No worries there.” Itaru replied. “he knows every bit of the operation, and will do everything to provide you assistance. Is that right, little fella?”
“Da.”

“Oh, he also brought some gift.” Having pried off Itaru’s arm, Satoru pulled out a shelf underneath the table and laid out an odd-looking, long-barreled rifle, as well as a small piece of paper from his pocket which he proceeded to read off from.
“I’m not Margaret, so I’ll just make it as concise as possible. This thing here is a modified anti-tank rifle designed for far range engagement, fitted with a direct fire artillery scope.” He picked the lumbering rifle with his hands. “This way you can hit much further from where anyone might possibly hear you, but you’ll also have to engage at a much greater distance than you’re used to.”

Then, he took out another weapon, a rather antiquated one at that.
“A crossbow? Are you serious?”
“This is the quietest option out there.” My friend shrugged. “Might take a while to get used to, but it’s your best bet if you don’t want to garner any attention.”

“I’ll use this then.” I pointed at the extraordinarily large rifle, then proceed to try and pick it up. “This is an anti-tank rifle, so theoretically, I can shoot right through cover, am I right?”
The rifle, true to its size, was also just as heavy as I imagined. Upon checking the details on the weapon I couldn’t help but notice a green rectangular device sticking out like a sore thumb on top of the rifle, attached to the scope.
“Well, yes, I suppose if this thing can penetrate the side armor of a medium tank, some wooden planks won’t be that big of a concern.” Satoru nodded, confirming my speculation. At the same time, Igor tugged at Satoru’s elbow and passed a small piece of paper to my friend.

“What does that say?”
“Oh, he’s reminding me of the special device mounted on the weapon. ‘Green box on the scope, see?’” My friend replied in a jokingly fake accent.

“That’s the light amplifier for the experimental night vision scope. You’ll have to attach a sensor on top for it to work, but the device is said to allow you see clear as day in even the darkest environment.”
He then pulled out a small metallic suitcase and placed it beside the rifle.
“The sensor is pretty delicate, so it has to be carried separately in a secure box. You might want to practice putting them together.” Satoru explained, then handed me the small piece of paper he was reading from. “Just follow the instructions on here. Simple enough, eh?”

“I suppose,” I said, taking the note from his hand. “Anything else?”

“Let’s just get through the plans one last time.
We’ll drop you off at a vantage point, and once Operation Ten-go commences, Shirataki, Igor and myself will infiltrate the complex. Igor and you will take out any resistance, and once the precious cargo is secure, someone will come and pick you up to rejoin the crew. Clear?”

With a collective nod, all four of us went on our way to make our final preparations for the big night to come.

9:32 pm, outskirts of Kure, 1.1km away from the Beiyang headquarters shipyard, roughly 90 minutes in since the beginning of Operation Ten-Go.
Sitting on a cliff overlooking the whole city, I spent some time observing the complex with my binoculars, waiting for the right opportunity to strike. Now drowned in the starry night of the late spring skies, it now looked only more impressive and grandiose. From here, I saw several armed individuals patrolling the balcony and the yards, but those people weren’t my primary concern.

I trained my eyes onto my targets, the four watchtowers erected on the corners of the complex. Each tower was stationed with a lone sentry, armed with nothing but an authentic Tengar marksman rifle- a weapon famous for only being issued to the elite among the Khanate’s already notorious sharpshooters. No doubt these men were the Tengar marksmen instructors who were transported here specifically to stand guard on this special occasion.

Had this been a standard sniper fight on equal grounds, I would’ve had no chance of survival facing even just one of them.
But hey, this was why technology is such a marvelous thing. With just a little switch of gears and equipment, a measly student conscript suddenly could compete with people on the top of the food chain.

I made a quick scan on the area again, trying to locate Igor and see if he’s gotten to position. Well, it was easier said than done. The little guy was already hard to find in an urban area, not to mention under the cover of the night.
Eventually, I managed to spot a tiny figure scaling the watchtower farthest from my position. He did so with great agility and extremely delicate movements, almost as if he blended into the structure itself. Not only that, he was even able to avoid any attention while doing this.

Turning on the power to the night vision device, I trained the scope onto my first target…

Being at a safer distance, I decide to take the initiative strike first and draw attention away from Igor.
Looking through the amplified night vision scope, I locked my sight onto the Tengar marksman, whose outline appeared quite detailed under the assist of the device. I then steadied my aim, took one deep breath, and pulled the trigger-
Coming right after was a deafening bang as loud as thunder, comparable to a small artillery piece, and the ringing of my eardrums. This was followed shortly by its tremendous recoil, the rifle’s stock blew back so hard it almost dislocated my shoulder.

Despite the shock from firing the weapon, I maintained my sight on the target to keep track of the bullet’s trajectory. The longer traveling distance made the bullet more prone to the effects of wind than I had anticipated, even with the higher velocity bullet. While I aimed for the torso, the bullet ended up drifting a bit further up right, and scraped the target’s right shoulder. Scraped, as in the man’s entire right arm was gruesomely blown off from the shoulder. Panickingly, the man tried to press onto his wound, only to lose his balance and fell off the watchtower, presumably while bleeding out.

Had it been my old Type-97, a hit like this would’ve been little more than a scratch, but the elongated heavy barrel and 14.5mm armor piercing steel core rounds proved way more devastating than I had imagined.

Wasting no time, I immediately shifted my aim onto the next target, his buddy standing on the next closest watchtower. The new guy apparently heard his friend fell off from his post, but has yet to realize what exactly happened. However, he did begin acting more cautiously, concealing most of his body behind the concrete railing of the watchtower while skimming the environment for suspicious activity. Unfortunately for him, a thin layer of concrete won’t do much good against such powerful weapon.

Holding down the rifle’s stock with my free hand, I readied to fire again, this time adjusting my aim slightly leftward to where I believe where his body was. The 14.5mm bullet drilled clean through the thin cement, and ripped apart the Tengar sniper hiding behind it. The force was strong enough to send him ragdolling back and throwing him off the platform, with a visible crater right in the center of his torso.

Now, I placed my focus onto the third soldier, who by now has realized what was happening around him. In fact, he was looking directly at me with his rifle in hand and taking aim.
I did the same, but as soon as I fired I noticed that the wind has shifted. The bullet in turn missed my intended target just slightly right of his shoulder, hitting the wall behind him while blow away a chunk of the concrete. He returned fire, estimating my position through the barrel’s flare from my earlier shot. However, the range was far beyond what his rifle was capable of, and his bullets all found themselves off target.
I won’t give him a second chance…
*click*
I pulled the trigger again, but instead of the same thunderous explosion from before, all I heard was the soft click of little compartments hitting each other.
“What!?” I yelled out while some bullets scraped past my head, straying way, way off target. I should have expected prototypes not to function as well as the finished product, but jamming right now of all places!? What kind of sick joke was this?

I stopped to check on the rifle, thinking to myself this thing might very well be out of comissio…
My line of thought was suddenly interrupted as a bullet whizzed dangerously past my head, another one just to my side.

I instantly rolled over to the side, narrowly dodging the final bullet that hit slightly above the scope, right where the centre of my forehead would have been. Breathing heavily, I took cover behind a nearby boulder as I anticipated another volley of bullets.

So this was what an elite Tengar sniper was truly capable of, I thought to myself- even if the dark of night, they can still engage at a target that appear no bigger than the tip of a needle... they sure do live up to their notoriety.
As soon as the shooting stopped, I returned to the rifle and took a view through the scope again. This time the soldier has descended from the tower and entered a building for cover, His silhouette disappear and reappearing among the rows of windows facing my direction, keeping watch.

Interestingly, I also found Igor, entering the building through the maintenance trapdoor, leaving behind a trail of blood of his dispatched targets. I also saw a small fireteam patrolling building through the windows, approaching Igor’s position...

I could potentially try to engage in a ditched sniper battle with the Khanate’s elite, but that would be quite foolish and suicidal, not to mention time-consuming. Igor, on the other hand, should be able to handle the guy easier than I did, and all I have to do is to keep the other guys off his back. But first, I must get this thing back to working condition again.

I checked the weapon’s receiver and immediately spotted the problem- an empty casing stuck at the ejection port. While jamming was quite a nuisance, I felt at least somewhat relieved it wasn’t anything worse. I manually eject the casing and reloaded the heavy rifle, then positioned myself to back to the vantage point, a few steps away from the old spot. Facing the front of the complex, I can see the soldiers clearly through the rows of windows.

Another release of the rifle’s trigger and the booming, crisp noise of the 14.5mm leaving its elongated barrel was rocked my eardrums again. That show struck way off target, but it did rip away a part of the balcony and shatter some glass, which was enough to send the fireteam scrambling for cover.

But almost at the same moment, the marksman's bullet grazed right above my head. I had to quickly roll back into cover as two more bullets homed in on my direction, though none came as close as the first shot. I rolled back out of cover and fired off my own retaliating shot, one that never was supposed to hit anything other than intimidating the fireteam crouching behind cover. I tried to find where exactly the sniper was hiding, but when that failed I tried searching for Igor who was also in the structure.

For a while, everything was silent- no signs of movement in any of the floors of the complex, almost as if time froze. The fireteam, which stayed behind cover on the first floor of the structure, dared not to come out from their cover in fear of my presence. As for me, scanning through the curtains of the second floor gave me zero information on where exactly the sniper or Igor was. For all I knew, they both might have killed each…

This seemingly abject tension of a stalemate was finally put to rest as someone came down the stairs. Scoped in on my rifle, I identified that person as Igor, holding onto a scoped rifle with bayonet attached in his right hand, and a combat knife in the other. The model of the rifle was without a doubt the standard issue from the Khaganate, which I assumed he took from a recently downed enemy. Turns out he was victorious from the encounter, after all.

Then, at a speed almost difficult to keep up through the scope, the porcelain doll charged head first towards the enemy, impaling the poor fool closest to him with the rifle in his hand by the guts. The rest of the fireteam was thrown into disarray by the sudden attack- an opportunity Igor did not let slip, as he quickly moved on to his next target and repeatedly stabbed the next man in the neck.

I buckled up and reloaded the rifle with a new magazine, then pointed my rifle at the few panicking soldiers that were stuck between an enemy they cannot see and a psychotic killer right before their eyes.
One man stood up from his cover trying to get away, only to be skewed right through by my bullet. Igor quickly snatched the man’s weapon, a standard issue Yu submachine gun, and sprayed in the halls like an unchained maniac, sending everyone scrambling back into cover again. Well, more target practice for me.

Another shot and the rifle’s bullet pierced right through a pillar and bored the guy hiding right behind. Having realized what happened, the remainder of the squad got off their legs and made an attempt to flee the scene. Too bad none of them lived long enough to follow through with the plan, as Igor menacingly caught up to them and put them all to rest, one by one.

With our combined effort the rest of the fireteam was quickly taken care of, then Igor began making his way to the stairs to clear out the remaining sentry within the complex. Igor, no longer needing any support, I relaxed and took a breath of relief.

I still think we need to keep an eye on Igor. Out of all the characters introduced now he seems to be the one with the most skeletons in the closet.
He might not even be from the Empire from what little we know, but we can ask Margaret about him later.

Now that I still had time, I decided to check on Satoru and Itaru to see how smooth their side was going
I sat up and took out my binoculars, scanning the scene for the duo. After some meticulous searching, I finally spotted what I assume to be the two, who were being chased down by some pursuer. The taller of the duo, who I assume to be Itaru was carrying a person with long hair over his shoulder, presumably the precious cargo, while the other figure fired his pistol from behind some crates to keep the pursuers at bay.
It appeared that the two ran into some trouble as well, and perhaps I can help.

I picked up the rifle at my feet to reposition it to face the area they were in, then took a look at their surroundings.
From my scope, the two were running away, behind them followed some pursuing patrols. I suspect they were caught passing through the second guard post leading to the hanger containing the Yamato, where our groups were supposed to rendezvous at.
The two ended up trapped amidst a narrow passageway between said structure and a wired fence and were forced to take cover behind some crates as more pursuers gathered at the entrance to the passage.

Itaru made a bold run towards the destination while my old friend stayed behind, hopping out of his cover as he laid down some form of suppressing the fire to cover the retreat. Once Itaru managed to get to the other end towards the hanger, my friend snuck behind another crate, taking some time to reload his carbine.

His pursuers, however, quickly noticed the temporary cessation of hostilities, and began approaching at his hiding spot. This was when I finally got a good look at these people - their insignia depicted not mere guards, but palace guards, the best sentry within the Khaganate. There was little chance for Satoru to survive a direct confrontation with these people. But he probably get away with some aid.

I picked up my rifle and moved it in place, attempting to get a clean shot on the palace guards. One little opening would be enough for him to escape.
Such was my train of thought until all of a sudden, an atv came charging in from behind the soldiers - knocking the group over or send some flying. The armored vehicle rammed into one of the crates stacked in the passage. The driver then turned towards the remaining guards and fired upon them with a compact, automatic firearm, perhaps to finish them off.

Akane?
The driver took off her helmet, revealing the ever familiar face of a Zipangnese woman of Darcsen descent. She was back with that less appealing natural getup of hers, but most importantly, the atv actually remained largely intact by the time she hopped off.

The two met face to face and bickered for a bit until the two were pretty much locking heads. Akane moved her head next to my friend’s shoulder whispered something in his ear, an act that immediately caused him to run off to the hangar, with her following shortly behind.
>>
>>2765874
More palace guards poured in, no doubt reinforcements called in by the first batch, forcing their way into the passage, they started off by examining the scene, along with the atv Akane left behind.
And almost immediately, the atv exploded into a fiery flower of a million little shrapnel, engulfing the crew foolish enough to investigate it.
As expected from Akane, I guess? Though I do feel a bit of pity for the Empire’s R&D division.

Then again, I suppose our part in the operation is successfully resolved-
“Drop the weapon!” A chilling voice echoed through the back of my head, this was followed by the menacing cocking of a revolver’s hammer.
I took a deep breath, cold sweat cascaded down my forehead. I’ve been found? At such a crucial moment?

“Ha, got you!”
The voice chuckled mischievously, and with its softened tone, I immediately recognized who was behind this prank.
“Tewi? What the hell are you-”
“What do you think?” My sister shot back, wearing a rather inconspicuous getup. “Pack up and get going, old man! We don’t have much time!”

With a sigh, I dismantled the weapon and packed it up onto the bike, then hopped right onto the vehicle and dusted off.
The ride was to be a very short one, but I figured I should ask something.

“Is the Yamato secure?” I asked, sitting into her bike sidecar. I was slightly worried about how Igor can get out of his situation, but I suppose he could manage.
“Would I be here if it wasn’t?” she strapped on her helmet. “All that’s left is for our people to finish boarding the thing. Which is to say, us.”

Tewi revved up the bike’s engines and blitzed off. While I assumed this was the route she came before, it wasn’t exactly a smooth ride. After all, the shortest route often was not always the easiest one, and this certainly was a bumpy ride. This has reminded me of a scene which I held in vague familiarity.

“Speaking of which, where’s Margaret? I thought extraction was her specialty.”
“What, disappointed your princess didn’t come for you?” Tewi teased with a grin. “To put it short, she’s needed to power the ship, I think. You can go ask her later when we get there.”

The bike arrived at the port, in an area completely secluded from the rest of the place. In all accords, it was quite fitting for housing something that was supposed to be a top-secret super…
“What in the world is this thing?” I stared eyes wide at the fortress that stood in front. I have seen, and at times even went abroad Kongou before, yet what laid at my eyes was something so alien, so absolutely majestic, that I cannot even believe something like this was crafted by the hands of humanity.

She was a Titan, stretched over 450 meters in length and covered in platings composed of highly refined ragnite, the ones of were more suited as a museum specimen as opposed for industrial use, endowing her with a streamlined, silver appearance. The thing bore striking resemblance her sister ship, the Taishan.

The largest difference between her and Taishan, however, lied in the main battery of the ship. In addition to the 51cm navy battery on her sister ship, the Yamato bore an extra rail ‘cannon’, jutting out from her deck. As a matter of fact, it would be a stretch to refer to the weapon as a conventional cannon- the weapon has no barrel, instead appeared as a gigantic lance-shaped structure that looked like a smaller version of an infamous ancient weapon that made headlines back during the Second Europan war.

“Hey… hey!” My sister’s hard tap on the shoulder liberated me from my initial astonishment. “Surprised? It looks even better inside.”
She threw me our bags and happily boarded the dormant superweapon. I followed suite and embarked on Yamato, taking one last look at the docks, then the closed lights of the Kure Naval Arsenal.

The interior was surprising not as foreign as the ship’s exterior, but still quite lavish compared to all the other warships of her class I knew of. I have heard about the Taishan being dubbed “Taishan hotel” when she was in idle, due to her well-appointed interior, excellent meals from restaurant grade kitchens and even air conditioning throughout the living quarters. Rumors also stated that Aiteng treated it like another one of her estates, which from my interaction with her, appeared to be very likely.

“Here’s the layout of the ship,” Tewi threw me a piece of paper just as I dropped off the bags. “Better have this memorized within the next couple of days. Who knows how long we’re going to be staying here?”
The map, like the rest of this ship, was just as detailed and impressive. If only if it wasn’t such a nightmare to memorize.
“Oh, do you want to check on the others first?” My sister began unpacking our load. “There still a little time before we set sail.”

>Find Yanagi
So we get a Centurion on roids? Letting it sink right in front of the Empire's capital where it could be easily salvaged probably wasn't a good idea.

We had an oversight on this bit on the size of Yamato, so I'm just gonna say for the sake of realism Yamato is 300m long instead of 450m
Sorry about the sperg

“Where’s Yanagi?”
“Radar station.” My sister answered she shot out an arm pointing in its general direction. “A whole lot of equipment from Morishima Tsushinn was carried onto this ship. She’s out there to install the important stuff onto the system. Maybe Nii-san could lend her a hand?”
“Of course.” I set off towards Yamato’s radar station. The ship itself was large and very hard to navigate without getting lost, but thanks to my past experiences and Tewi’s map, I managed to find the room quite easily.

The door was slightly opened, some static noises reverberate from deep within.
I knocked on the door, and with no response, entered with a soft “I’m coming in.”
My first reaction was to flinch at the stale, unventilated air in this room. Due to this, this part of the warship ended up being relatively hotter compared to similar rooms. Immediately, I found Yanagi crouched under the table and beside some form of transmitter, meddling with bundles of wires and electronic parts. Due to the environment she performed her work at, Yanagi has opted to take off most of her normal getup, which left her with a rather bare top and a pair of short shorts, the two pieces of clothing linked together through some suspenders.

“Hey Yanagi-”
“Aah!” Hearing someone call her name out of the blue, Yanagi reflexively popped up like a startled cat and accidentally bashed her head onto the bottom side of the table.
“Owww…” She groaned, wrapping both of her hands around her head, trying to ease the pain.

“You okay?”
“Yeah, I’m fine…” She said, crawling out from under the table. “Subaru!?”
“Kept you- pwah!?” I answered awkwardly, as she suddenly pounced at me enfolded me in her arms.
“I, I’m so- Ah! Sorry!”
Coming back to her senses, Yanagi hurriedly took a step back, letting go of me. On one hand she appeared genuinely happy to see me in one piece, but on the other hand, embarrassed by her own impulsive behavior.
She then took a deep breath and whispered something to herself under her breath before probing me for any unseen wounds. Now that she had fully confirmed my well being, Yanagi lets out a sigh of relief.

“Thank heavens you’re fine.” She smiled and placed a warm hand on my chest. “After seeing Satoru and Shirataki-senpai, I wasn’t sure if…”
“Yeah, things seemed to be a bit rough on their side.” I scratched my head. “But we all got out in one piece, that’s what most important, isn’t it?” To avoid getting her nervous, I deliberately omitted out the part where I almost got shot in the head while dueling against an elite sniper from the Khaganate.
“And you? Working overtime?” I looked over at the bulk of the machines and wires left sprawling on the floor, along with the empty canisters of coffee dumped carelessly on the side.

“Yeah, needed the boost in focus.” She replied with a sigh. “I’m trying to fit a system of signal amplifiers onto the transmitter and well… it’s a bit more sophisticated than I had expected.”
I took another good close up look at my childhood friend. Sweat ran down from not just her forehead, but also soaked the rest of her exposed skin. This was farther emphasized by the humanoid impression, left in the area where she was just working before my sudden intrusion.

“Looks like you can use an extra pair of hands.” The suggestion smoothly rolled out of my tongue like a red carpet. Even though considering the conditions, better suggestions weren’t exactly viable.
“Hmm… You know what?” Yanagi wasted no time taking it to heart. “Hold onto these parts, and pass them to me when I ask for them.”
I was handed with a handful of tools: Screwdrivers, pins, batteries, and a toolbox of countless electronic parts that never registered in my brain. After handing me the tools, Yanagi knelt down and crawled back to under the table to resume her work, with me sitting right beside her.

“Screws, five of them”
“Here-” I passed her the equipment, and she took them without ever losing focus on her task. The same request came time after time, each time for a slightly different item. Personally, I did not have enough knowledge in this field to keep up with what Yanagi was working on, or how far she has progressed; however, what I do know was just how experienced Yanagi was in handling electronics.

Back in our younger days, she had always talked about the works on the machinery of her family’s creation. Satoru and I were always showered with information on the newest advances in the field, with neither of us really truly understanding the topic. This interest apparently run in the Morishima family blood, and seem to have stemmed from “know your trade by heart and it will never let you down”. Truth to be told, it paid off well for her family.

“Can you hold this? Don’t let the wires fold though.”
“Sure thing.”
Yanagi said as she passed me a metallic cube with wires attached all over it, the device she has been working on all this while. The cube was heavier than it looked, and from the meticulous work Yanagi has done on it seem to be the centerpiece of the system she was trying to install. As I held on to the device, she dug back into the underside of the table, once again working in the sea of wires and electronic parts to find a place to fit the device.
Which was easy in theory, but a tiring task when it came to application. I had to bear down the full weight of said machinery on my arms for god knows how long it took her to complete the process. It probably didn’t take too long, but the environment made every second unbearable.

“AUUUUGH…” Letting out a frustrated grunt, Yanagi wiped the sweat off her forehead, then pulled on her sweat-drenched top trying to vent some air and cool herself. The fabric snapped back onto her chest, soaked just like its owner, and as a result gripped tightly onto what little skin it covered. I tried my best to not peek, but it was still quite… distracting, to say the least. Well, Yanagi did mention her looking better in swim wear… well, I suppose this wasn’t too far off.

Glancing at Yanagi as she worked, I noticed that she has matured quite a lot over the years. While she did not possess the sort of dynamite figure Margaret and Admiral Sima did, her features were by no means lackluster. She had just the right curvatures, a relatively smaller stature that made her less imposing than Margaret, and overall, well... felt natural, for who she is.

“Subaru!”
“Ye-Yes!”
I snapped back to reality with two hands firmly clamped onto my cheeks, and a very displeased Yanagi facing me squarely and looking right into my eye.

“Focus, okay?”
Ironically, she being in such proximity to me only made it harder to focus than ever before.
“Screws. I really want this done with.” She said with a sigh. I obediently handed her the appropriate tools to finish up all the last touches.

“Aha! Done!” with the final compartments fixed into place, Yanagi threw up her arms up in joy, her face brimmed with pride at the work she completed. In this sudden rush of euphoria, my friend discarded all her senses for self awareness and threw herself at me, giving me an embrace. It wouldn’t really have been a problem… if not for the fact that she was practically half-naked, with her vitals just barely covered.

“Subaru? Your face is re…”
But unlike Margaret, it took Yanagi approximately two seconds to recognize the situation she caused. She quickly released herself from contact, turned, and retreated under the table in the blink of an eye.

“Are you okay?”
I walked nervously beside the same table she ducked under like some sort of startled hamster.
“Y-you were ogling all along, weren’t you...” I heard Yanagi’s soft mutters under the table. There was no inclination of anger in her words, only embarrassment...
