The final thread of part 1!

In the last thread you said our stats are gonna be reworked to reflect how well we compare to the others, we aren't gonna be as weak as we were at the start compared to them right?

Sasuke begins to make a stride directly for you. Instinctively, you pause. You're generally not the type of guy to get nervous, but suddenly you feel an immense amount of pressure cross over you.

Your eyes look up to meet his. Right away, the impression of this man's might can be felt. This is one of the most capable shinobi in the world today, standing in front of you. With his eye, he scans you up and down with impunity.

Slowly a smile creeps to one side of his mouth. "Not bad. Both of you."

Sarada is looking towards the ground, but Sasuke leans forward and lifts her chin up to meet her eyes. "You lost because you underestimated your opponent's desire for victory. I don't even know this kid and it's obvious."

Boruto grumbles, his hands folded behind his head. "I told you it wasn't just me.."

Sarada frowns. "I thought that, if I could beat him without the Sharingan it would really impress you. But he was able to get his rhythm going.."

Sasuke looks to you now. "That's right. It was a wonderful display. You attack in the spaces between the thoughts of your opponent. When they make their move, or just after you dodge and counter. Each attack isn't designed to kill, but instead in service of a greater strategy. Dominating the rhythm of the fight, doing everything you possibly can to reduce the opponent's chance of success...."

He looks back to his daughter. "To zero."

You can't help but stand overly stiff, overwhelmed by the praise. Naruto is so relaxed and goofy in comparison, you almost weren't expecting it. Even though you knew he was like this from history class.

He looks away from you, and sighs. "What a scary mindset for someone your age to have. Naruto, where did you find him? He's way too straightforward."

Naruto chuckles. "He's just a normal graduate from the Academy. Like I told you, he won the Chunin exams before Sarada did. You really need to see the footage, it's crazy! Fight after fight, getting through by the skin of his teeth!"

Boruto groans. "Can we stop talking about this now?"

Sarada slumps. "Same."

Sasuke looks down at them. "You two should be paying attention! From what I can see, this generation of shinobi has gone soft! There have been no major threats in a long time, so you're all treating it like some kind of game! Well, almost all of you."

Kichiro takes a few steps forward, stumbling. "Hey, you better not be including us in this!" he says, nodding to Ai. "We're every bit as hard as he is! If anything, it's 'cause of us that he's so tough!"

Ai chuckles. "It's also true that we train harder because of him."

From up in the trees, the shadow of a man is cast over your small group.

Hanto sits on a tree branch, and takes a long drink from his flask. "I didn't really do a lot, honestly. Kids didn't need it."

Sasuke stares. "I remember you. Quite fascinating that you've managed to produce such a high quality shinobi."

Your sensei shakes his head. "Again, wasn't me. I could see the sparks of potential inside all of them when we first met, even though everyone else seemed to discount them as weak or strange. You're right about this generation, Uchiha, but you're looking at the exception. Each member of my squad is just as capable as the last, and the countless life and death experiences they've shared together fan the flames of the will of fire even hotter!"

Sasuke and Naruto look to each other for a brief moment, and look back.

Naruto nods. "You're right."

Hanto throws his flask and almost jumps out of the tree. "You're damn right I- wait, did you say I'm right?"

Sasuke frowns. "I see what you were talking about Naruto. Why this was worth the time. I guess we'll be seeing this squad later then, as well?"

Naruto nods, and turns to you. "Listen everyone. Meet us back here later this evening, we've got something to discuss with you then. Do *not* be late!"

You nod. "Okay then."

Everyone says their goodbyes for now, though Boruto and Sarada can't help but grumble.

On your way home, you pull your jacket up close. It's been one hell of a crazy year for you, overall. You almost don't notice Mitsuki standing on the street. "Oh, hey there." you say.

He turns and grins. "Hello, Takeshi. Excellent work back there. You've really came a long way since I fought your squad in the Chunin Exams."

You smile. "Thanks. It feels like it all happened so fast, really. I guess I never expected things to work out like this."

Mitsuki chuckles. "What do you mean? You weren't sure you were going to succeed, despite all your training?"

Looking down to the ground, you think for a moment. "Yeah. Hah, I guess, honestly, I was usually pretty scared."

Mitsuki looks at you for a brief moment. "Well, it all worked out in the end, didn't it?"

You nod. "Yeah.. Now the greatest ninja in the world are praising me. I've really gotta get home, I'll see ya!"

Mitsuki waves goodbye, and keeps walking as you sprint past him towards your house around the corner.

Hurriedly you open the door, struggling to contain your excitement.

It swings open as you burst inside, and your brother looks at you with surprise. He's in the middle of eating noodles. "What's got you so excited?"

You smile. "I have a lot to tell you about."

Over the next hour, you give him the details of both your fight with Shozuku and the cultists and Sarada. As well as the praise that you received from Naruto and Sasuke.

Your bro has set his food down, and stands up. Hideki holds a hand up to his eyes, and starts sniffling a bit. "You know, you might be accomplishing a lot. But you're still not as tough as me!"

You chuckle. "Of course not!"

He points a thumb behind him. "I think that.. There's someone else that you should tell."

Frankly, you were thinking the same thing. Your brother pulls you into a deep hug, and gives you a strong pat on the back as you walk past him, pushing you forward.

You grab a key from a drawer, and open the door in a room that you or your brother rarely enter. It's cold inside. You switch on the light, and shut the door behind you. Taking a few steps forward, you kneel and sigh. Looking up, are two urns, as well as photos of your mother and father.

You grin, and think far back to the past to your first year in the Academy. When you were six.

It was raining outside, after class. A couple of older students had cornered you in an alley, berating you on your performances in a quarterly exam.

The biggest one pushes you into the mud, and shouts. "You're the worst student in the Academy, Takeshi!"

A taller, but thinner male student next to him nods in agreement. "No one knows who your family is! Your parents were nobodies, and you can't even do a single jutsu!"

A girl with ribbons in her long hair, and a red shirt, chuckles. "He can't run fast either, and he's too small to be strong. You made yourself look stupid in front of the Hokage yesterday!"

You whip your hand down and up, flicking mud into their faces in an arc. They're each momentarily blinded, so you try to rush past as quick as you can. However, you slip on the mud and bumble into the tall one, headbutting his midsection. You both fall down, and the other two recover.

The big kid grabs you from the back before you can get up, and pins your arms. The taller one holds his fists up, and punches you in the cheek. Your eyes well up with tears immediately, but you arch your body as hard as you can to swing your legs up.

Remembering how you slipped, you push your legs against your chest, and both boys fall to the ground. You're released. Slinging a bit more mud into the girl's eye, you sprint off down the street out of the alley.

You taste blood and mud in your mouth, and you're soaking wet. You even had to leave your stuff in the mid and rain.

When you get home, you tell your brother what happened. He patches you up and helps you clean off, and you sit down at the table together and watch some cartoons. He sighs, and looks over. "Are you sure you're feeling alright, Takeshi, you're not bothered?"

You shake your head. "No. The Hokage told me that if I never give up, I can be even stronger than him some day. If he believes I can do it, it must be true, right?"

He smiles. "Yeah, that's right. You should tell Mom and Dad, they'd be thrilled to hear that the Hokage talked to you out of all the other kids during the quarterly exam."

"Even though I failed." you say.

Hideki pats you on the back. "Hey, just keep looking on the bright side like you like to do! You really remind me of Dad in that way, you know?"

You smile. "Okay then. I'll be back."

You unlock the room, and step in...

The memory is one you still hold close to each day. And now, you break down in tears just like when you were six years old and tell your parents all about the things that you've done.

After a few minutes, you wipe your face, and step back outside. Your bro smiles. "Hey. You should go see some of your friends, you'll want to."

You nod. "Alright!"

You go into your room, and open up your drawer.

"Holy cow!!" you exclaim.

It's completely full of cash!

Now that you think of it, eventually you started outpacing the price of the equipment that you normally buy as you took on larger and larger missions. You'd gotten so used to just grabbing what you needed that you hadn't figured it'd build up like this.

You take a bunch of large pills and put them in your pockets. Running out the door, you head to Ai's place first near the park. You rush through the woods to reach her old house, and bang on the door. She opens it, looking at you blankly. "Yes, what is-"

Quickly sticking your hands out, you show her the money. "Let's all go get something to eat! I'll pay for you and Kichiro, it'll be great!"

She blinks. "Oh. Okay."

"Are you ready?" you ask.

"I guess." she says.

"Great!"

You run off, expecting her to follow you. She quickly catches up. "Why are you so excited?"

"I guess I'm just having a good day!"

You break off at high speed, racing her almost. Of course, she's no slouch herself, and quickly matches you. The boost from your weights has worn off for a while now, so you're simply moving a fair bit faster. The two of you leap through the village, until you collect Kichiro as well.

He comes outside of his apartment after a few minutes, holding his little sister's hand. She's wearing a dress and has bright red, curly hair. She's a couple of years into her time at the Academy, now.

She points at you. "Hey, you really mean that I can have anything I want??"

You blink. "Huh? What's with this sudden transition? She's way more brash than I remember." It's hard to recall, but from the last time she met you, she hid behind the walls.

Kichiro chuckles. "Well, now she's hungry. Just try to stay out of the way."

Everyone agrees that barbecue is a fine choice. The group quickly heads on over, and your good mood is infectious. Soon you're all laughing as you enter through the doors, and you're led to your seats. As it turns out, Shikadai and his squad are also present at another table. Like usual, you all gather together at a large table.

Shikadai sits across from you, with Ai and Kichiro on either side of you. His team mates Chocho and Inojin sit as well, greeting and congratulating you on your recent feats.

Kichiro sighs. "I gotta figure out a better trump card than the gates. My body has been killing me this entire year.."

Shikadai nods. "No kidding. Don't forget, Rock Lee almost became a cripple from the damage he sustained."

Inojin sips his drink. "However, that was only partially because of the gates. The current Kazekage's jutsu is what really got him."

Ai reaches up with her hand. "Regardless."

She slaps his back, and Kichiro convulses in pain, almost falling out of his seat. His little sister laughs

"It's no good if he's always like this during the downtime."

You grin. "Well, it always comes through for us when we need it. Anyway, what'd you think of the fight Shikadai?"

He leans back. "What did I think? What's there to say? You've gotten even better, with no signs of slowing down. The bigger your repertoire gets, the more it compliments itself."

Ai nods. "You really have learned an astonishing amount of jutsu in the last year."

Chocho huffs. "Let's hurry up and decide what to order!"

Everyone orders, especially heftily on your side of the table as you urged them to do. After a little while, your food is brought out and the feasting begins. Tonight, you outpace even Chocho herself as you engulf a sampler constructed of the majority of items on the menu.

A great sense of warmth washes over you. You're so happy to be here with your friends, that you can hardly contain it. All the business with the cultists is finally over, as well. Although receiving praise is certainly nice, moments like these also make your job worthwhile. Sometimes you wonder how anyone can even ask you why you train so much, when the rewards are so great!

Once the meal is over, you all step outside. Soon enough it will be dark out, and you'll have to head to the fields to see Sasuke and Naruto.

Since it's near by, you go to the weapon shop. As you enter, you see Tenten speaking to Rock Lee and Mari.

Lee launches over, and rushes you with a hug that lifts you off of your feet. He nearly crushes you. "Takeshi!! I-I can't believe it! You did everything that I said a year ago perfectly, and-and-"

Mari steps forward. "Okay, okay, slow down. We just had to listen to this speech once, I'm not ready for a second time."

Tenten grins. "Congrats on the victory."

You give her a thumbs up. "No, thank you! Without the wakizashi, I wouldn't have been able to make it so far. In fact, if it wasn't for all three of you, I'd still be struggling."

Mari grins. "The struggle isn't over! I'm sure that I've surpassed you now, so we'll see soon!"

You shake your head. "I'm not sure I'm ready for all that. For now, I should go though. I just wanted to say thanks."

Everyone waves goodbye, and next you go to Sakura's place.

Knocking on the door, it takes a few minutes for her to open it.

"Oh, Takeshi. Heh, I heard how you defeated my daughter.. She's sulking in her room right now. I don't think she's gonna want to talk."

You smile. "That's okay. I just wanted to thank you for your help, honestly. People have been congratulating me all day, but really it's thanks to all of you helping me when I needed it."

Sakura sighs. "You're a weird one, kid. The fact that every victory is no big deal is part of what annoys Sarada so much."

You twiddle your fingers. "Well, it's really not a big deal.."

She chuckles. "Hey, it's getting late. You should go see the boys."

You blink. "The boys?"

She nods. "Naruto and Sasuke."

You smile. "Oh, of course. It's funny that you call them that, since they're so strong."

She shrugs. "They're morons, really. Have fun."

She shuts the door, and you turn back to the road.

On your way back, you end up meeting with Boruto, coincidentally.

The two of you are heading the same direction, so you decide to walk together. Things are quiet for a short while, but he speaks up. "You know, the next time we fight, I'm definitely going to beat you."

You smile. "Is that right? Well, you might. You were already really strong when we fought."

He chuckles. "Like it mattered. You helped me with something though. I think I lost because I thought I was untouchable, as the Hokage's son, as Boruto Uzumaki. I figured my name had special powers or something, but in the end it didn't help me at all."

You look at him, surprised. He snaps back. "What!? You think you're the only one who's got determination on your side? We'll see what happens in the future!"

He sprints ahead, and you have no choice but to race after him.

Not long, you both arrive at the training field together, neck and neck.

Sarada, Kichiro, Ai, Mari, Himawari, and Mitsuki all sit in front of Sasuke and Naruto. They urge you two to relax as well, and you oblige.

Naruto grins. "I'm sure some of you have already figured out why we've called you all here today. Due to a combination of your natural talents, and determination to succeed, we've decided that we're going to take a few of you under our wing. We'll each be making our choices now..

This is Ephemeral for those unaware. One of Itachi's favorite Genjutsu that's highly, highly variable and powerful. Just has a short range as it's weakness.

Welcome to the mind fuck everybody. Hope we get the chance to learn shadow clone jutsu in the future tho.

Whilst Naruto does help us in the pure stats department we get more jutsu and chakra related stuff from Sasuke that is beneficial to us, especially that fire release cause it helps with boil.

Shadow clones is effectively multiplying the amount of dickery we can do by 2. I'm aware of the chakra cost, but knowing Takeshi he will be smart about it, and not a spammy idiot. Also, the general constitution boost is needed. We have the tools, now train the body so we don't die while trying to use them.

Also the infinite dempsey is fucking retarded.
It's antithetical to Ippo's core fighting style of tight compact punches, bobbing and weaving like a motherfucker, and burrowing into the momentary gaps in his opponent's defenses.
Instead of focusing on the omni-directional haymaker with all it's massive holes, he should have just worked on his reflexes and dodging more.
Maybe then he wouldn't have had his brain turned to pulp.

The new dempsey is pretty silly really. But trying to make it counter proof isn't a bad idea in general, I just don't think adding a single variation to it is enough.

Ippo's basics have already proven to be world class so if he works more on landing big but not nutty punches, such as the Gazelle, he'd have a better time I think.
