I stop hovering over Marianne, letting her get up while she studies me. She was dumfounded; suspicious as I'm proven tricky.

"Great," I said, gathering Cheru and Yoksha. I pulled Fenrir's tail which instantly woke her up. She didn't have time to say anything as I dragged her on the ground.

To escape my rough handling she delve into my shadow. "What was that for, master?!"

"We're going with Drilly for a little spar between us. I also needed to dish out some punishment for being oblivious to your sister."

At the headquarters' training grounds it was only Marianne and my company who were occupying it. I told Cheru to sit at the bench, leaving Yoshka and Fenrir with her for safety reasons. The sun's rays radiate warmth as it's high over the whole building and yard. It was a nice day out.

Stepping into an outline that cut out a decent amount of room on both of our sides, we get ready. Marianne has gone over the rules as this point; stop attacking if the opponent yields or is knocked unconscious, no destructive magic that'll harm the environment or spectators, and if either side crosses outside the white line it's their loss. Very basic.

Before the spar began I pitched a wager.

"Though I wouldn't object to a little bet, winner gets to tell the other to do something?" I say, getting real breathy at the end of my sentence.

"You sure?" Marianne said, taking my offer into account. The moment her eyes lit up was the moment I caught her. "If you lose you can't bail, Nemo."

"I agree. Shall we start?"

"Yes. The winner gets to tell the loser to do something, correct?"

I nod, confirming for her.

"Then it is."

Marianne and I get into a stance. Her sword unsheathed she started counting, my legs itching to move as she got closer to one.

With a resounding shout she charged in with great speed at me, readying her blade in a unreadable way.

Trying to attempt a dodge and counter-grapple, Marianne feinted a slash and bash me in the stomach. She then followed up with a another punch to the underside of my chin.

It pushed me a ways back without too much damage but I felt it. Not painful but felt it.

While I recovered, Marianne then casts a group of fire arrows. Sending them at my feet without any aim towards me, blasting them with torrent, along with mixing fire creation and water creating. A thick mist was produced in front of me, completely hiding the view of Marianne.

Protecting myself with faint barrier from further magic attacks I use air control to push the mist away, revealing Marianne. Mid dash I just dodged her thrust, kicking her with my knee. I then punch a blow on her shoulder, pushing her a ways back.

Marianne tried to get back in a proper stance but I closed the gap, forcing her to defend my self-restrained blows with shatter and rupture.

While my barrier took the brunt of Marianne's torrent, getting weaker by the constant attack, I cast my own as well.

Sprouting from a magic circle, another stream of water fought the opposing one. It was stronger, the pressure ripping through the other's as it goes to Marianne. Thankfully for her, she had enough time to dodge due to the effort against her spell.

Not knowing much of what I'm saying, Yoshka pointed at my magic bag beside her using his tail. Cheru opened it, and to her amazement, felt around the void within the bag. She dug into it deeper, and with the help of Fenrir they both found the tusk sword. During the process, Cheru almost fell inside. Fenrir saving her narrowly by grabbing her ears.

"This Mommy?" Cheru says, waving the ebony sword.

"Yes dea-- Woah! That's not nice, Drilly."

Almost hitting me, Marianne gave me a piece of advice, "Look here, Nemo. An opponent who turns their backs are begging to have a blade stuck into them. Common knowledge."

I jump away from her, maintaining the gap between us. With a cute yelp, Cheru threw the sword in my general direction. Catching it, I raised it against Marianne's own.

"Let's see how I fare in swordplay. Never used one before."

Marianne's showed a bewildered face, but reverting back into a deep focus, "You're kidding?"

"Nope~! I don't know how sword work!"

And just like that I took the initiative, lunging at her with blade and blade. I had the upper hand as the tusk was light, allowing me to swing faster. But to Drilly's credit, she immediately went on the defensive, blocking me at every turn.

Sliding my leg forcefully to the side of hers, she trips on the ground while the sword she was handling clanged by her side. Marianne made an attempt to grab it back but I restrained her with horrid grasp. The amount of hands I had to make were many because of her strength that can easily over power just a few, a number of over six just for one arm.

All of her limbs were held down, the hands wrapping around her as she struggles to move.

I climb unto Marianne, placing my knees on her arms as well. Sitting down on her chest, the way I folded my legs made my thighs look thicker, attracting her eyes to them. Stroking her body, I make my hands slowly go up to her face as I feel her skin. She still tries to break free, but it was all futile.

"Are you hurt Mommy?" Cheru said out of concern.

"Mommy's a-okay, dear. How did I fare?"

Cheru shook her head side to side, "Mommy got hit. Cheru's scared."

I giggle, exceedingly different from my laugh towards Marianne. "So that's what you're worry about," patting the top of her head, "Don't worry, Mommy's strong. A few body blows won't take me down."

I started to leave the training grounds, gathering up my company. Waving a hand behind me I said good-bye to Marianne, "Excited are you? Well, see you later~"

She sat there, a hand on her chest to feel her heart. Thoroughly anxious, she reflected on herself.

"At least a little peck..." Marianne mumbled to herself without my knowledge. She then went red, "W-What am I saying?! It's impure, impure!"

Looking for that cafe' Marianne took me that one time, I came across its doors with Cheru in hand. It was called "Cradle", as I looked on the polished sign while memorizing where this place was in the area.

The door rang with a silver bell, notifying a host to me. I asked for a table of three to which he gladly gave us. As both us took our seat he then told us that a waiter will be here shortly.

"Fen, take a seat, please," calling for her.

Fenrir's head peeked out from under the table. "Why, master?"

"Just so things feel complete. Nothing more to ask if I have two daughters with me," I sweetly said. "Come, Fen."

She just shrugged, crawling out of the table's shade. Fenrir didn't calculate the height of the woodwork, and with an audible bang she bumped the top of her head.. Eyes fled to our direction; a bunny demi-human and a woman wearing a mask. The people here in the cafe' soon turn face, ignoring us until further disturbance. Or maybe the hope that we'll leave faster. Their faces held a myriad of emotions, some of disgust while others chuckled at the foolish commoner. Either way, we stuck out as a sore thumb.

Fenrir made it into her seat at the same time the waiter came to the table. She took a gander at the bunny and wolf before remembering to do her job, taking our orders.

"Welcome, what would you like?" the female waiter greeted, a few seconds late.

I stared at the menu, browsing the choices. The portions are pretty huge when looking at the other tables so sharing it will offer enough for the four-ish of us.

"I smell an elf," she says with a silent anger. "Not here but somewhere close by."

Yoksha recoiled, "Yeah, still wondering, sister."

"Hold on, I can smell the elf but not know where it is. I just know that it's somewhere near."

Still gazing outside I admire the expertly crafted stonework of the buildings and statues. Neat and finely carved to a satisfying ratio.

In the streets were horses that carried highly valuable goods such as glassware and items from lands outside of the country. This place reflected its populace: the wealthy, the powerful, and ones of good connections. As noble as it was, it was full of color. A color that drowns out the grey from Earth.

The thought was ruined as I saw an elf walking along, long and slender as Fenrir described, the iconic pointed ears poking through her hair. She was well-dressed in a green garment and skirt that complimented her blonde hair.

Next to her was a person I didn't expect. Reigniting like a random forest fire, hostility grew towards the person. A petty hostility, only fueled by an old anger. It was Kita Ruijji beside her.

Ruiji inspect the area around himself as does the elf. He then looks at my table through the window. At that moment, time stopped for me. What was he gonna do? Appraise me? I have a hex to counter that. Enter the cafe'? I doubt he'll want to make a commotion.

My mind panicked like a certain knight, watching his every move-- his every glance at the window.

And then he left, checking behind him now and then as he stared at me, Cheru, and Fenrir.

What bothered me was that he payed more attention to Cheru and Fen. Something in the back of my mind that was foreboding.

"Mommy? Not going to eat?" Cheru voiced, snapping me back into the present.

"Oh, uh, sorry dear," picking a sandwich from the already barren plate. "I was thinking too hard."

As I was gonna take a bite, Cheru held down my hand. "Cheru wants to feed Mommy."

I blinked once or twice before a smile melted on me. "Sure, dear," giving the sandwich to her.

She held it up with both of her hands, presenting it to me as I take a bite at a time. Finishing it, she hugged me shyly.

In response I petted her head, forgetting the anger and worry I have wrought on myself.

Out of the cafe', we went towards the mage's store. This time, Fenrir stayed out for herself; her time within the cafe' grew her comfortable within the environment. There no sign of Ruiji or the elf, putting an end to my internal episode.

At the mage's guild, I ringed the receptionist for Wilbur. He came a while after, explaining that his duties got into the way but was happy to see me.

We moved from the central lobby and into the hall, entering an office. Each of us took a seat, Wilbur taking the one behind the professional desk.

"It's good to see you after a time," Wilbur greeted. "May I know why you've rung me? And who are those cute demi-humans of yours? I'm quite piqued."

I'll bet the reason he was looking more at Cheru and Fen was because they didn't have the hex that protected them from Appraise and thus was reading as much as he could from them.

The game is afoot, the hunters will know of our existence through our family and thus might come after them.

I will point out that it would be a extremely good idea for us to give all our family members the ability to essentially emergency teleport away from an area they might be currently in.
That way if Cheru or Fen get cornered they can still cheese it.

We should appraise his slave ability, knowing is half the battle. Auto aim? Does it require touch? Can it be resisted? Does it have limits?

On the other hand, i think our best defence against the heroes is being one of the good guys

So our goals in protecting ourself and our family from the others are:
1) make hexes to protect against tge slave magic most importantly
2) in our free time do some quests to raise our stats and learn new skills. Wouldn't want to be beaten
3) if possible learn a spell/make a hex that lets us and our family not only teleport to each other, but also generally out of a fight
4) optionally make a hex like the one fuuma already has for ren and cheru, though less effective now that they've probably already been appraised

Is hex a divine ability? I think it is. Im not sure it can defend vs slave thing though
