------
"His majesty strongly suggests that you reconsider his proposal." The leader of a group of Royal Soldiers stood before you with a sack of gold in his hand. For what appeared to be an attempt to persuade you to return to the fold of the Royal Palace, these men didn't seem intent on taking "no" for an answer. They numbered four in total, and the three standing a few feet behind their leader all had hands gripped on their swords. This bunch was definitely more forceful than the last.

After you and your companions, summoned to this world by force, had slain the Demon King, you were hailed in the court of the King of Avalis as a Hero. You did not feel the part. Only you had survived the brutal final battle against the Demon Lord, and being surrounded by the corpses of your three friends had struck something in you. Why did you all agree to fight for a world not your own? Was it a sense of childlike naivety and belief that you would all receive a happy ending? Leana had boasted about the need to help others, regardless of world, but that conviction did not hold up in the end as she was torn asunder by the Demon Lords minions. Yukimura only desired to get home, but when you found out after the battle that returning home was impossible, you felt he had been cheated. In the end he fought for nothing but a lie. Then finally, Marcus had wanted fame and glory. The opportunity to be hailed as a hero was his greatest desire. Albeit Prideful and a bit unbearable at times with his boasting, he never let you down when it mattered. It should of been him basking in this post-battle world, not you. As for you, Elisa D'arcia, you were the stoic beauty. A woman of few words, you had a fan following of your own. Not as big as the hero worshippers of the others, but a few nonetheless. That time felt so far away now.

There were more immediate problems however. The King wanted you to return to the Royal Court and once more become his 'Hero'. The word left a distaste in your mouth. Your companions might of been Hero's, but you were always unsure as to what you were. Along for the ride maybe? It didn't matter now. The King had taken the deaths of your friends lightly, and admitted to lying to you all in order to have you slay the Demon King. With the 'thorn' that was the Demon King out of the way, the Nobles and Human nations that had united against a common threat went back to squabbling, and the King used you as a diplomatic weapon to guarantee the superiority of the Kingdom of Avalis. You were disgusted that 'this' was what your friends had sacrificed themselves for. You had left without word one night, taking your Sacred Blade with you.

For now, the soldiers looked at you expectantly as silence befell you all.

"I must decline His Majesty's invitation. I have retired from the life of a Hero." You tell them as you turn to continue your travels. You still wander the land, doing good deeds for those in desperate need, but you've been keeping a low profile nowadays. The men however, don't seem to like your answer.

"Then you'll have to let me reword, His Majesty demands your presence. You'll be coming with us one way or another." The leader says. The men in the back draw their swords. They must assume with the loss in usability of your left eye and arm in the final battle, that you're nowhere near as powerful as you were. Luckily you've found something to supplement your bodily decline.

You weren't some pushover. You were still a 'Hero' in terms of skill. You wouldn't be bullied by some footmen who thought that your state gave them some semblance of superiority over you. Over the last year, you'd practiced day and night until the wielding of your Sacred Blade with your remaining arm had come natural to you.

(Ability gained - One Handed Blade Mastery: Wielding a Sword with one hand does not impose disadvantages to you in combat.)

"If you continue on this path, it will not end the way you think. Leave, before my patience runs thin." You tell them. They seem taken aback for a moment, not sure what to do now that you're still intent on declining. Perhaps they were all bark and no bite?

"I reckon you ain't got too much fight in ya. Reports tell us you ain't a magic user, and ya got one good arm. We could just arrest ya here without much trouble. Keep the gold for ourselves." One of the soldiers says. The leader turns his head around, furious that his man had spoken out of line. You speak before he does.

"My my, you certainly are a tough lot, intimidating a lone, crippled woman. Pathetic." You say.

Makes sense that we'd have trouble giving off a threatening aura. We're probably not too keen on killing people after the stuff we've been through. They're annoying, and we'd rather fight than be a pawn, but ultimately it's hard to really despise them when they're just soldiers doing their jobs, not some band of murder happy bandits or whatever.
>>
>>2988949

The man who had spoken out of line appears rather insulted at the insinuation against his honor. He charges at you with his sword and you sigh. THIS was the reward you got for saving the Kingdoms from the Demon Lord. It was...disappointing. The blood, sweat, and tears that were shed back then had already been forgotten, and now your fellow humans turned against you when you were no longer required. You recall the final battle, the words of the Demon Lord ringing in your mind.

"Even should I lose, your usefulness will be expended." He had told you. It was true. With the end of the war, your were relegated to mere monster extermination tasks alone. You butchered nests alone, traveled alone, and camped alone. The loss of your companions coming as a shock every time you awoke. It was a hard couple months following the battle.

Now, your targets have switched from monsters to humans. You'd never killed a human before. If you did...what kind of hero would you be? Would Leana be disappointed in you? These were the humans of a world that had deceived you. That had you fight THEIR battles for THEM. Would Leana still feel the same way? Would Yukimura?

You had already gauged the strength of your opponents, as the entire group joined their companion and descended on you.

The Demon Lord had told you that the evil of Man outweighed that of the monstrous and demi-human races. That their knack for betrayal and violence was unparralled. His war to subjugate humanity was to protect them from themselves. You only recall at the time, the he was quite the monologuer.

Something inside of you told you that if you allowed these men to walk away, they would simply send more. You suffered for this world, bled for it, and KILLED for it. If only they could taste a sliver of what you had to. They should have to know what you went through.

And they would.

The Sacred Blade appeared in your right hand, teleported from your inventory as your bonded weapon. The man went for a downward slash.

The downward strike never comes however. Before anyone had even realized it, the Sacred Blade had passed through the torso of the first Soldier. He spits up blood before his body above his stomach slides off, staining the ground in a puddle of blood. The second man fares no better. He attempts to parry you, but the power behind the blade won't be stopped by feeble arms. You knock the sword from his hand and impale him through the stomach, ripping the blade out through his side. He screams in agony, but you aren't done yet. You place a foot on his throat, seeking to slowly suffocate him as he bleeds out.

"M-Monster!" One of the soldiers shouts and tries to attack you from behind. You turn and grab his wrist.

"It seems training standards have been....lacking since the war ended." You mutter and a squeeze from you breaks his wrist. He screams, but you tone it out. You release his wrist, only to grab his throat and you begin to squeeze. Stomping down on the man below you, you finish the job once you feel that he is on the verge of death. Two remained now. The one in your grasp, and the one who was now hesitating. With your free hand, you point your blade at him.

(Requirements met. Demon Lords Curse has evolved into Demon Lords Legacy.)

That was peculiar. An ailment? Killing the Demon Lord had bestowed something on you it seemed. It would explain your inability to see your skills or stats after the final battle. You would need to investigate when this was dealt with.

"Why did the King send you"? You asked. You had the life of his companion in your hands, and ideally he would answer honestly.

"I was just paid by the King to get the sword from you! He needs it for something!" He answers quickly and in a panic.

"When you were unsuspecting we were going to take it from you....oh god...please don't kill me I'm sorry!" He's grovelling at this point. You're not sure how to feel. Satisfied? Guilty? It's strange.

"Tell your king to get used to disappointment. I'm not his vassal, but nor am I his enemy. Unless he continues on this path." You tell him. He nods furiously.

"Of course! I'll let him know...I'll uh...go do that now!" He stands up and flees immediately. You sigh and look to the remaining soldier whose neck in your grasp.

"The folly of men. Proximity to power often delude people into believing they wield it..." The mans eyes slowly begin to shut has you choke the life from his body. You eventually release after ending it with a final snap.

Hmn. I wonder if they collected any of our friends' artifacts from their resting places.

I'm torn on the money. On one side, it was meant as a bribe to get us back to the King's side, and since we're not doing that it could be considered theft. On the other, the offer was insincere, so it'd make a fine Stupidity Tax.

Eh, I don't like to make such decisions right out the gate. On one side, fuck the king. On the other, we're the only remnant of our friends left in this world ... if their trials are to mean anything, we'll be the ones who actualize that.

I like the idea, but I don't know if banditry and looting boomed after the death of the Demon King, and if it is the case then not taking the money means that someone else will take it and the people after us will assume anyway that we took it.
I'm not saying it's dumb mind you, I'm just pointing out a possibility that can happen.
>>
>>2989460
Yeah. If our grudge was that bad we'd have already slaughtered the king while we were living around his castle. Going evil right off the bat seems like a complete 180 nor does it match our passive "along for the ride" personality from before. We were going around helping people. We aren't evil... yet?
>>2989493
I don't know the type of magics they have in the setting but it could also have a tracker on it. Since we can summon the sword we can leave it on the bottom of an ocean until we need it so tracking the sword itself is useless if there's something. The gold on the other hand is an easy trick.

They send some lv 5 nooblords up against a hero and expect em to win? I don't think so. If we went along with it they got their wish, if we didn't and robbed em we now have cursed (or trackable) gold. It's a setup. If we don't leave it then we give it all away to some random stranger.
I'm probably overthinking but the whole thing smells like a trick.

With your assailants dead, you move to retrieve the bag of gold that had been offered to you. For all the trouble they gave you, some monetary compensation was more than welcome. Sparing a glance over to the corpse of the Leader that was making demands of you previously, you rummaged through his pockets to reveal a letter with the Kings seal. It had already been broken, and so you looked it over.

"The Sacred Blade is to be recovered for the ceremony. Others have failed, do not return without it." Was all the letter read. Peculiar. What Ceremony? This letter left you with more questions than answers.

You put the letter into your inventory. At least now you had a destination in mind. However, there was one remaining matter of importance. A small menu appearing in front of you revealed some startling changes.

So from what I've gathered:
1) King summons 4 heroes to kill the Demon Lord.
2) Heroes kill demon lord and one (or all) get marked by the demon lord to possibly become the next one. Does death matter here? Would the corpses become the next demon lord?
3) King then takes/steals the mystically bonded weapon to summon a new set of heroes to do it all again. Probably doesn't have a good side effect on us.
4) ???
>>

It's a classic power play maneuver. 'Do something that gets me popular enough in the kingdom so that I have the clout among the public to do the henious shit I want to without getting too much backlash too quickly.' This is CLEARLY the best one. Throwing your sword then teleporting to it is the best.

>[Detonation(Fire): Cause a delayed explosion to an injured enemy encompassing a 5 foot radius.]
[Lifesteal(Dark): Absorb the souls of slain enemies to heal injuries on self]
I doubt we'll have enough allies to make use of Healing Hands and the ability to keep ourself healthy is invaluable as a lone wanderer.
>>
>>2989704
How strong (generally. i don't need exact numbers so much as a ballpark) were we before we allocated stats?
If we're strong enough to toss our sword half a mile or more (and able to land properly) the flash step actually sounds like a good idea for getting out of dangerous situations or swift travel.
>Healing Hands. Let us not say that we didn't learn something from our teammates.
Ice Barrier. Sounds like fun. We can't run out of water if we have this and it's difficult to maintain a supply of slightly clean water.
I'm a little tempted by the lifesteal thing but that sounds like a trap option with bad long term side effects.

Use Flash Step to get out of explosion zone and get in an advantageous position

Ah, the QM linked the build that one. Yes... Great.
>>
>>2989780
Since we have way too many options I'm going to support this one.
>>
>>2989767
Lifesteal sounds like a trap option towards becoming the next demon lord.
Our defense is shot so we're going to need healing if we're weaker than we used to be.
Ice barrier sounds good but I'm not that anon
Detonation sounds nasty as fuck but the OP image doesn't make us look like we go big or go home when it comes to damage dealing so the enemy is probably dead before we can explode them. Unless that works on corpses? Then we can kick them into groups of enemies?
>>
>>2989791
>Lifesteal sounds like a trap option towards becoming the next demon lord.
I like this path though
>>
>>2989791
A singular dark skill won't lock us into demon lord path yet.

Hopefully.
>>
>>2989801
Yeah, but it's a slippery slope. I imagine a lot of dark skills are very good from a strictly mechanical point of view. The more we refuse it from the start the easier it would be to continue refusing.
>>
>>2989704
>>[Flash Step: Teleport to the location of the Sacred Blade if it is within one mile.]

Throw sword past enemy, teleport, catch sword, slice. Also makes it really easy to jump/triple jump/ whatever.

>[Ice Barrier(Water): Summon a wall of ice to block incoming attacks]
Less for straight defense, more for obfuscation of our followup tactics.

>>[Detonation(Fire): Cause a delayed explosion to an injured enemy encompassing a 5 foot radius.]

Because explosions.

I'm cool with any combination of magic that doesn't involve lifesteal.

Lock? No, but if the souls can keep yammering/gibbering after we steal them it's going to eventually drive us mad.

>>

>>
>>2989856
I sense sarcasm. We can double as a doctor. The patients sure as hell won't want to rat us out.
It also might eventually heal our long term injuries.
>>
Also healing hands = job as a magic healer if we're strapped for cash. It's useful even outside of battle.
>>
I think my only real beef with Flash Step is that it seems like it requires a lot of strength to actually use to it's fullest degree as what the anons have intended for it. And since we've basically gone full dodge tank with barely an increase in strength, we're not going to get much out of it in comparison to to Fatal Swiftness or Flight of Foot since Fatal can eat most types of armor and FoF gives us damn good mobility in uneven terrain.
Just my two pennies on the matter.
>>2989856
To be fair, I think a big reason that some picked it was to see if we counted as a "other" for it's requirements.
>>
>>2989866
I'd be lying if I said the idea of a one armed, one eyed loner that's about to be public enemy #1 getting healing magic right off the back didn't make me laugh.
>>
>>2989866
>>2989873
Why do I always forget to refresh
>>
>>2989875
You raise a good point, but just because we're going dodge tank doesn't mean we can't pump SOME strength. Heck, after taking that skill, that was exactly my plan. Presuming next level up was another 400, my spread would probably be something like this:

>Strength +200
>Magic +50
>Speed +100
>Defense +50
>>
>>2989885
Going the investment route I see, alrighty.
Well I hope that your plan will work out smoothly, 'cause otherwise we're up shit creek without a paddle.
>>
>>2989875
It probably will, but even just short distances is useful if we toss a blade into a person , port to the blade, and than remove the blade to stab anyone we ported past in the back. Being a melee also has the main weakness of range and this at least sightly makes up for it. Bypassing all armour means nothing if they're shooting us from far away until we have true ranged options.
>>2989885
My personal plan was basically use the ice barriers to compensate for whatever low defense we have. Maybe as it gets higher they can become floating shields? Defense looks to be our dump stat and magic won't be going much higher outside of utility/defense spells since we'd have been a magician if we had aptitude for it at the start.
Run fast and hitting like a truck is not something our enemies are going to enjoy.
>>
>>2989875
You don't just not choose a teleporting ability, no matter what the circumstances.
>>
>>2989910
I mean, I DID vote for Ice Barriers myself.
>>
>>2989918
I never said we don't NOT choose, I'm saying that we went two different directions and ended up potentially weakening ourselves for it for a good long chunk of time.
And hell, it's already chosen so I don't know about you but I'm gonna try and make the best of this situation.
>>
With your abilities selected you closed the menu. This was all wrong. When you fought the Demon Lord, you had over a dozen abilities, but now you were simply a shadow of what you used to be. You looked over your stats again and again to see if you were missing anything. It all seemed set in stone though and you groaned in annoyance.

Now however, you needed to vacate the area. Leaving the corpses where they were, you continued off in the direction you had originally been heading before you were rudely intercepted by the Royal Soldiers. Now that all was said and done you considered the consequences to your actions. Did you care? Maybe. Could anyone stop you? Maybe another hero, but...they were all dead now.

The capital was a days ride away. For a moment you considered finding the King and giving him a piece of your mind. However, to go back to the place you swore you would never find yourself brought back to again would be....distasteful. You thought about your options. It wouldn't be even a half days ride to the closest town away from the Capital. Then there was the option of leaving Avalis all together. The Varron Empire lay to the west, about a few days travel, and was big enough to lay low...but would that cause more problems for yourself with the King of Avalis seeking the Sacred Blade?

Spend that sack of gold on some dude heading the opposite direction or pay a smith to melt the gold down and exchange it for another metal. Having Availis currency is sure to leave a trail for us to be followed.
Alternatively if there's a major city on our path we use it to buy some nice equipment and maybe some books about past heroes. We need to research why the king wants the sword. We can't steal from the king's library since we're so much weaker now but we can see if there are any patterns we can notice.
>>
>>2990052
Don't do that. It's gold. It's worth it's weight in gold. melt it down into ingots or something.
>>
>>2990058
It's a trouble magnet and once we leave the country we won't be able to research the history of their heroes as well.
A random stranger with tons of cash is also highly conspicuous so best to attract the attention before we disappear instead of after so that all of the countries that might be looking for us know where we are.
In retrospect our armour/equipment is probably already fucking awesome so there's no need to get something new unless there's something suspicious that's been done to it by the King.

I'd still try and get something that eases our travel even if it's something stupid like a blonde wig and disguise kit
I was also trying to exchange the gold for something of roughly equal worth since for all we know the King can track it like I pointed out way back >>2989515
If we get something worth all of that gold then it doesn't matter to us if we got some valuable stuff we can sell later. We were supposedly doing fine without the gold before. I don't see why we suddenly absolutely need to have our wealth be in the form of gold now. Exchange it for some spices or something. The last thing we need is a trail of breadcrumbs leading back to us.
>>
>>2990109
We could just shave off all our hair.

Same idea here. You can say the other stuff is paranoid but melt that gold down because any fantasy spy agency or the guards worth a shit are going to see that as a reason to keep an eye on you. Especially when international conflicts are brewing. We don't want people noticing us. Having weird money from a possibly enemy state makes people notice us.

>>
>>2990161
While we're in the country, there is no reason to not spend the coin. It would be more suspicious if we pay for everything in unmarked gold lumps rather than the standardized currency,
It's not suspicious for someone to pay for shit in cnaadian dollars WHEN WE"RE IN CANADA
>>
>>2990198
But I didn't say to buy in unmarked gold while we're here. I said melt the stuff down in preparation for foreign lands. Buying with the gold while in the same country is perfectly fine and I'm entirely confused as to where you got that idea from. The border is only a few days away.

Just get a cloak and some non-perishable trade goods. Maybe even a cart. Even better if we get them in different cities/town/hamlets along the way.

>>

I don't know. I'm fairly certain Valhalla has a pretty lax policy when it comes to prideful braggarts. Vikings weren't the most humble people
>>
>>2990231
Spices have the most wealth per pound. Gold is mostly just heavy as shit.
Otherwise you're arguing over whether we melt it down before we cross or after we cross which doesn't matter unless the gold is marked/trackable is some form. Not really worth getting into a psuedo argument over.

We're on the run here and unless we were living dirt poor our cost of living doesn't require an influx of raw cash. Exchange it for something. Sell that something in the other country, and then skip off somewhere to hide.
Cloaks and disguises are useful of course as well as some way to hide our giant holy sword but otherwise there doesn't seem to be an immediate need for raw gold atm.

As long as you stayed in Avalis, the King would never stop sending his cronies to recover the Sacred Blade. The corpses would eventually be found, and some might even come to attempt to claim your inevitable bounty. The Empire would provide the sanctuary you needed however. It was large and diverse enough to give the King pause as to where you could be, especially if you donned a different appearance. With your mind made up, you continued down the road, taking the first turn that would take you to the west. Luckily the rest of your day proved to be uneventful, and before you knew it, the sun had began to set. You had forfeited the opportunity to reach a town, but the next one was only a half days travel from here, and from there the Border was only another day away. Unfortunately, you did not possess night vision as the Demi-Humans did (and full vision as most regular folk did), and so you decided to camp for the night.

As you sat around the fire that you had created, the events of the day truly came crashing down on you. You had killed humans. Self-Defense sure...but would it be enough ammunition for the King to make you a wanted criminal? He likely would simply call any of your claims as outright fabrications.

"Gods forbid the Royal army commit any unsavory acts..." You mutter. The King wouldn't allow his precious army's name to be sullied. Still....did you need to be that brutal? All your pent up grief had poured out in a wave of violence.

You thought back to the moment the Soldiers life had disappeared in your very hand. You had felt...

>Satisfaction. Getting all your pent up Grief out on them was just what you needed.
>Disgust. They had seen fit to threaten your life, and yet they couldn't even post a remote threat.

It was regret. Why did they have to push you to that point? Why did those idiots see fit to try and attack a hero? You're practically a legendary warrior, and although your power is now but a fraction of what it was, you were still significantly stronger than a majority of human warriors barring perhaps a party of elite adventurers in your current state.

"I'm sorry Leana." You apologize. Perhaps if she had been here she would of been able to diffuse the situation, as you were never one for words before.

You continue to brood, trying to decipher your feelings further on your first time killing other Humans in this world. A dull ache continues in your chest as you pick out that your Disappointed. His death offered you no catharsis from your cruel reality. Worse yet you felt no guilt either, no spark of conscience belonging to a hero. Just a familiar resignation. In that moment the 'Hero Elisa' did not exist, just a shell of the woman. Your body had been on autopilot, and as usual you were simply along for the ride. What's even worse was how...easy it was. To have someones life in the palm of your hands and yet you felt absolutely resigned. As though this was simply an inevitable outcome.

"You all always had your reasons for fighting...but what do I do now? Expended by the very King that had begged for our help...what do I do everyone?" Before, you told yourself that you would fight for your companions, but that was moot now. Why do you continue?

>Purposeless. You cannot think of a reason to fight anymore. Every action you take is guided by 'why', and you feel yourself simply being dragged from place to place with great effort. In the end, this is your fate.
>Peace. This world is far from peaceful, and while it may not appreciate your efforts, you would continue to suffer so that others would not. You are still a hero after all.
>Yourself. This world spat on your sacrifices. Never again will you dedicated yourself to a cause greater than your own happiness.

You've fought and struggled enough. You've been the hero already, and you wont let yourself get dragged into another charade. You will find a calm, quiet life, on your own terms, however far the journey may take you. Let whoever comes after this take up the mantle of 'hero'.

As the fire continued to burn, you slowly began to close your eyes as exhaustion began to overtake you. Tomorrow would be a new day, and when you made it to the Varron Empire, you could pursue the peaceful life you so desired.

-------------------

You broke camp when the sun began to rise, not wanting to waste any time, and continuing to head west. You figured you would encounter a few travellers the closer you got to a town, but your first passerby's of the day are more than mere travellers.

The Demi-Humans were the first thing to catch your eye. All seven were shackled. The men, woman, and child seemed exhausted, and they were being escorted by at least five men, one of which was of the robed variety. A portly man sat atop a horse as they travelled, likely the leader of this group if you had to guess. The Demi-Humans wore torn and heavily worn clothes. The young boy who upon closer inspection sported a wolf tail, attempted to stay close to his mother, only to be forcibly seperated by one of the guards as they walked. The guard seemed irritated, he'd possibly been doing this quite a bit.

If any sentient race had severely suffered for the defeat of the Demon Lord, it was Demi-Humans whom many had thrown their lot in with the Demon Lord. As a result, the post-war institutions promoting Demi-Human slavery were booming with an influx of 'goods'. You hadn't spoken out when you had found out about this, too distraught over the deaths of your friends. Now however, you were witnessing the transport of said 'goods' in person. For now, the group seemed content to pass you by. However, were you?

>Nod to the portly man and continue on your way. An unfortunate after effect of the war, but not your business to intervene in.

You had sworn last night that the life you intended to live would be one of tranquility. You were nobody's hero any longer. This however, was something you had a hand in causing. Children that would grow up knowing slavery had you to thank for destroying their hope of freedom, and their parents as well. The lot of Demi-Humans wasn't amazing before the war, and many claim to have fought for the Demon Lord to escape Human subjugation. Their rights since rescinded, it didn't matter who fought or why. Demi-Humans were the lowest type of citizen now, barring monstrous races.

You stop in front of the group and they do so as well. The guards take their attention off the Demi-Humans and look at you. The portly man speaks up.

"You're in our way, and I have places to be. Unless you have business with me, step aside please." He says matter-o-factly.

"You traffic even children?" You inquire. It's a tone of accusation. These children did not fight, and whatever their parents may have done was irrelevant. To have them suffer for the actions of other Demi-Humans was wrong.

"Different strokes for different folks. They're pretty moldable from a young age. All sorts of possibilities with them. Make for some of my best sales honestly." He tells you with a grin. No guilt whatsoever. This was simply day to day business for him.

"Now do you have an interest in one? Maybe one of the men?" He suggests to you, gesturing to a shirtless Demi-Human male with Bull horns.

Yeah. They probably can't move as fast as we can so we need as much time as possible before he figures out what happened. I personally suggest taking the slavers, gagging them, and making them pose with the general slave population as we drag them along past the border.

Good. Let him pick a fight with the other country when we cross the border.

At the end of the day, we'll only have harmed a handful of people and freed a slightly larger number of slaves that can be recaptured with enough effort.

If he wants to spin it into a story to defame us, he probably has plenty other material to work with. The only issue is that the slave angle gives the Empire more of a reason to look for us as well.

But that's an okayish cost to try and help.

Although you did have business with the slave trader, it was not the kind that he would of preferred. You summon the Sacred Blade to your hand and the guards grab the hilts of their swords, unsure on how to proceed. The Slave Trader moves back slowly.

"If you think you can simply shake me down, you have another thing coming!" The man shouts and gestures for his men to come in front and protect him.

"Upon the sacred sword's name, release them. Your nobles and kings may have agreed to this, but your heroes never did. You were unlucky to meet me." You say flatly. The mans eyes shift to realization on who you are, as do the guards.

The man was taken aback, as though unsure on how to reply to your declaration.

"The war is over Hero. We may have you to thank for killing the Demon Lord, but if you think your word weighs more than the King in these times of peace then your arrogance is astounding." He spat before recomposing himself.

"I do have you to thank for my prosperity however. I would be willing to gift you one of these creatures as a gesture of good faith....if you allow me to continue on my way. This is my livelihood and I cannot simply part with them all." He suggests. It was plain as day he was trying to bribe you, unwilling to set his guards upon you...yet. What common sense the soldiers may have lacked, this man is somewhat more wary.

In the back, the Demi-Humans stood idly. Many of their faces had a familiar resignation on them. You weren't sure what they had been through, but to especially see a child with such emptiness...

looking at this from a modern perspective, no one in their right mind is okay with involuntary slavery.

between the king trying to steal our sacred weapon, and openly approving of slavery it's pretty much inevitable that we will have to fight him.

likely he has already stolen our friends weapons to summon new heroes.

I say we try and raise our friends from the dead, steal back their weapons, and bring total war on this asshole.

or build our own democratic meritocracy.

>>

>>
>>2992223
There's also the admitting to lying to our faces.
At least one of the more proactive heroes that died might have considered the implications of that and immediately assassinated him.
I have to wonder what outlandish claims he's been making in our name before then since he was using the power of the heroes for political clout but we weren't actually involved in anything.
No to resurrection. If that was possible we'd have already tried to do it or whatever friend knew healing magic would have done it in front of us and we'd be trying to find a healer capable of it like he/she could.

>>2992228
The note makes it sound like the summoning is incomplete without our sword to make the 4th. If it wasn't such a dick move to whomever the new 4th would be we could probably hijack the whole thing by doing the summoning ourselves depending upon the mechanics of it.

If things somehow spiral into us accidentally creating a wide scale democracy and demonstrating there's no need for kings it would certainly be useful when heroes come knocking. Us asking them to fill out immigration forms would certainly put them off balance when they try to storm the castle.

>Kill the slavers outright.

>>
>>2992266
we clearly aren't aware of everything magic can and can't do in this world. my understanding is we were summoned and sort of just went with the flow instead of asking too many questions.

fuck that.

we have a LOT of options as far as they go. For example, the king cannot simply declare us to be some kind of monster without good evidence. We also likely have the massive public support and sympathy befitting someone who literally saved the world.

unless anon's just want to become Demon Lord 2
>>
>>2992354
I said we should use the gold to buy some books for research on the way out but that turned into an argument about how we should keep the money. Anons are bizarrely attached to that gold we got.
At least one of the heroes (and the enemies we've fought) had to be a magician too, so even if we don't know things in depth, we (MC)should have more of an inking about it as a character than we (as the audience) have seen.

I feel that that's we should at least make a token effort to aim for a peaceful life and not make waves and not aiming for a aim uprisings or whatever dumb shit your guys are gonna cook up. Feels like we are just paying lip service to wanting a peaceful life after just one post.
>>
>>2993328

So long as stupid shit isn't happening right in front of us we won't be actively searching for heroic deeds and it's not like we've been going out of our way so far. We are at least a slightly moral person which is probably part of why we got summoned as a hero.

The thought had crossed your mind of killing the slavers outright. It was highly unlikely they would be able to resist you no matter how much they tried, but why instigate further violence? You summoned the bag of gold from your inventory and held it in your hand. The slaver obviously took notice.

"And how much would it cost to take more off your hands?" You asked. The Slavers mood noticeably brightened. Now you were speaking his language.

"Well I need at least some stock to present went I get to Ivoran, but you could take two more off my hands for say...a hundred gold each?" Your eyes widened. That was highway robbery! If only Yukimura was here to haggle...he was always good at that.

"Now I know what your thinking, but these are quality slaves! Strong and Obedient. The collars they come with make them susceptible to all your commands if you own the key." He explained. An obedience collar it seemed. The resignation made sense now. They had no free will, even if they would have tried to muster up some resistance it would be supressed. Perhaps it was a valid safety measure given their original choices of siding with the Demon Lord? You had doubts. For now however, you only had 250 Avalan gold in your possession. You could purchase two more with the addition of the one free slave.

"I don't suppose you offer a bulk discount for the Hero of Avalis? That's less for you to escort on your way to Ivoran." You suggest. He mulls over your suggestion for a moment.

"Well...despite your arrogance, I suppose I could still profit at eighty gold each, but I can't part with more than what I've offered. What do you say? Do we have a deal?" He asks excitedly.

>Accept his offer and take your pick of the slaves.

(Sorry about the length it took to get this up. Ended up knocking out after work.)

You shake your head. He seems disappointed in your choice but doesn't try to negotiate. Clearly he's confident that when he gets to Ivoran that he can meet his expectations in trying to sell them. You would consider freeing the slaves, but you already had the blood of the soldiers on your hands. Did you need to sully them more with people who were practicing a legitimate business, despite how you and your world looked upon it?

You walked by the Slaves and contemplated the original offer. Even if you weren't purchasing any additional, you could still take the one you were promised. There were seven slaves to choose from if it was still in your interest. Three of them were Bull Demi-Humans, very common in the Demon Lord's Army as shock troops of the Demi-human faction. It wasn't surprising you would come across a handful of them. Two more men were Horse Demi-Humans, and the single Woman and Young Boy were Wolf Demi-Humans, often renowned for their tracking skills and sense of smell. Wolf Demi-Humans were often seen running down stragglers and those fleeing battles.

You weighed your options.

>Take your one promised Demi Human. (Specify: Bull, Horse, Wolf Female, Wolf Child]

It's honestly quite annoying how wishywashy our decisions are getting. I'm guessing it's the results of each "faction" not considering that they lost the previous vote so changing our mind so hard would be out of character?
>>
>>2994325
I'm not a fan of how meta the healing vote is either.

Anons splitting the vote is another thing that needs to be considered. When you don't want an option that's leading to win, the best thing to do at that point is to pick the option that's in second place.
>>
>>2994331
Not sure meta is the right word for the healing vote. Lifesteal and explosions sound a bit grisly when all of our current possible enemies are humans. I didn't see it as being meta so much as MC not being THAT far down the dark path yet to go for the guro options. She's still heroic. She still cares slightly

The most theoretically meta vote I see that got ignored was us claiming all beastmen as spoils of war since while I didn't go out to plan it, I could easily see word spiraling out of our control and beastmen all of the world suddenly flocking to whatever remote place we chose to attempt to live the quiet life to thwart our objective of a peaceful life.

How could anons forget that the first rule of appraisal is to appraise EVERYTHING?
>>2994310
Knowing that the king is after us gives him MORE motive to sell the information to the king and leave a slave tracker on whichever one we pick. We're on the run. What are we going to do? Turn around and catch him? Bribery is useless if he has no reason to honour the bribe.

Slapping the slave collar.....well if we don't take him across the border since that would get us arrested for human slavery, either he'll starve to death or someone will find him and he'll spill the beans. Can we order a collared person to keep themselves fed?
>>
>>2994383
Its this indecisiveness that is making it bad, if we were going to go down that route we should have done it earlier, at this point we are going to end up making character inconsistencies.
>>
>>2994399
From a meta perspective:

QM gave some pretty big hints stuff we can do with them in the short term. The wolves are trackers so they know the ways that people hide from them. The probably centaurs could let us hitch a ride to get away faster than the king can give chase. The bulls are probably a combat companion for a planned encounter if we aren't taking the sneak out with the wolves or ride fast via horse routes.
Ergo, the slaves are not 100% useless and are actually pretty important. Even if we abandoned them they'd still want to go in roughly the same area/direction since we want somewhere remote so we aren't getting rid of them THAT easily.
>>
>>2994404
It's not like we haven't been trying.

>>2994404

You'd originally stopped out of a sense of guilt. To see people in chains had come as a shock to you, someone who hadn't witnessed slavery first hand but knew your victory had a place in its current foundation. As you had continued to converse with the Slaver however, doubts on your original intentions began to surface. Taking care of a slave was a lot of work, and even if you did free them all, what was stopping them from simply being captured again later? Would taking them with you put them in even moe danger with the King after you?

Walking towards the Slaves, you began to cast [Healing Hands] to heal minor bruises, cuts, and other light injuries. The Slaver didn't plan to stop you it seemed, and you could only take deep breaths. You wanted to apologize, but their kind had killed many humans as well, and so you held your tongue out of a begruding rememberance of the war.

"I appreciate you giving them a little more value. People will pay more for slaves in good condition." The man laughs. Regardless of your intentions, many of the Demi-Humans nod and smile at you, appreciative of your magic.

"This is your fault." The woman says, hesitant to subject herself to your healing as you approach her.

"Our one chance at freedom and you killed him. Now it'll be what...another hundred years before another Demon Lord rises? Another century of suffering?" She says in an angry whisper. She's appears to be an ex-soldier of the Demon Lords army by her tone.

"If Humans could be content with what they had, the Monstrous races would never of needed to unite to protect themselves." So that was how she looked at it? You supposed it was a matter of perspective. Though it was the King that had told you that the Demon Lord had started the war, was he the most trustworthy source of information at this point?

Curiosity getting the better of you, you decide to appraise the Wolf Woman and everyone around.

Next, you check the guards, they are rather unremarkable, only a few points extra in each category than the soldiers you had killed before. If anything, they had a bit more experience under their belts.

Finally, you appraise the Slavers leader, the portly man on the Horse. (CONTINUED IN NEXT POST)

The state of the slaves made much more sense now. It wasn't overtly difficult to piece the dots together and figure out that the man had a knack for causing his disobedient slaves pain.

"Quiet back there!" The portly man yells. The woman was going to continue speaking, but now no words could escape. She had been effectively silenced.

"Heal them already so I can be on my way. I've wasted enough time." He says, getting impatient. If Marcus or Leana were

(There won't be many times I solely do a write in option, but I feel there's enough indecisiveness on how MC should proceed that it's justified. If you guys want me to present options, I can do so.)

I figured it was ironic that us having character inconsistencies is the most in character thing we can do when normally it's the exact opposite expectation.
A quick double check at an online dictionary tells me i'm not confused about the dictionary meaning vs the new incorrect meaning. I'm guessing I went wrong with phrasing somewhere?
>>
>>2994416

Just leave. The slaves hate us already and staying here too long accomplishes nothing.

Slaughter the slavers, starting with the fat man. The girl is right, this is our mess to clean up.

Ditto. Kill the slavers.

Point out that the source of their paycheck is now dead and if they wish to live they should flee before we reconsider their actions after they tell us where the key is.
>>2994419
He offered one for free. We will take at least one long enough to learn the history of the world. QM is shoving neon flashing lights about information we actually want down our throats and you're ignoring it.
>>
Somehow I predict that "I don't wanna do anything for anybody" isn't gonna be very fun to play.
>>
>>2994435

Okay, then what ID was yours if it changed?
>>
>>2994437
We're just tsundere about it. It's not like I wanted to save you or anything Baka!
>>
>>2994440
Like if we don't care about the common folk, nor do we care about the suffering slaves why are we even keeping this blasted sword? Just give it back to the king, let him summon new heroes and we'll retire to the countryside to find our "tranquility" lmfao.
>>
>>2994438
I'm not going to scroll up and sift through hundreds of posts to find an ID that changes every few hours.
>>
>>2994416>Take the girl and leave.
>>
>>2994444

You're splitting the vote. The choice is either kill them or leave with nothing. If you vote leave with wolf, it helps nothing.

I'll probably end this with this final decision and use the best write-in backed by others. On another note, how does everyone feel about a discord for this?
>>
>>2994442
Why are you shitting up quests if your ID is gonna change every 5 minutes...
>>
>>2994448

I'll be fine with a discord. It allows people to discuss votes a lot faster and more efficiently.
>>
>>2994448
I don't mind a discord and I agree with ending it here. This thread has got so much shit to sift through that it's just ugly to try and read.

I couldn't care less about a bunch of folks who collaborated with the big bad evil.

>>

Trips are gay. And most qms don't accept votes from tripfags.

The big bad evil was most likely framed by the humans. I'm assuming this is going to be one of those tropes.

>>2994456
The big bad evil that kept on monologue about how humans are evil and that it's starting to turn out didn't even attack first? And we definitely didn't find out that the King is almost cartoonishly evil. The fact that we didn't run into any slavery the entire journey also tells us that the human kingdoms were specifically HIDING slavery from us despite it being a "legitimate business." They know that most modern heroes don't condone that shit.
>>
>>2994448
No fucking discord, it will shit things up even more.

How about we try and bluff him, exchange our holy sword and take the mother and child, tell him that you were planning on returning it to the King and that he would get paid well if he took the transportation mission in our stead.

Then we wait until we are a few hours away and summon it back
>>
>>2994467
How exactly is the price the king tried to pay for FUCKING HOLY RELIC OF THE LAND REQUIRED FOR HIS MACHINATIONS less than the cost of two discounted slaves? Is the king seriously that cheap?
>>
>>2994460
That has never been a thing. Just say you want to samefag, it makes you seem slightly less pathetic.

>Just kill him already.

If for no other reason than he's ostensibly loyal to the king and likely to report our position and travelling path, with ample opportunity to do so. Whatever the slaves do, it may draw attemtion from us.

Hmm if we gain the ability to create duplicates of the holy sword we could pull off some kick ass multiple blade rush teleporting bullshit.

Probably going to need more agility and magic though...

Sounds more like Warp Strike shenanigans then Nightcrawling Bamfs.
>>
>>2995325
It was, though. I got impale shit and teleport, plus the fishing was kino. Where in RWBY can you do either of thos things?
>>
Jesus why don't we just kill the fucker. Bandit is rampant around the border, nobody will suspect anything if we just sic 'im. Stop being a bunch of pussies will you?
>>
>>2995325
Honestly, FFXV is pretty damn fun. The fishing is great too. Biggest problem IMO was the ending. Also Comrades is great.
>>
I mean seriously, we're handed dummies to test our warp-strike power rangers explosion shit, and some of you don't want to?

I feel like i've seen that done long before Noctis but I really can't think of where. I normally wouldn't be so certain but I've literally never touched the game.

You probably have, Noctis is just the first one I thought of and it's easy to find video examples showing how I imagine it'd work.

Cloud strife, omnislash for one
>>
>>2995585
Cloud doesn't teleport around for Omnislash, he just kind of jumps into the air and slashes.
>>
>>2995702
Omnislash version 7 does involve teleporting.

There's also a lot of 2D fighting games that involve teleport strikes of the thrown variety.

But is the fishing good?
>>
>>2995808
well if the remake adds fishing....
