(Lovecraftian Jojo Quest)
The year is 1918. You are John Joestar.
You are returning home to Jamestown, Rhode Island on a midnight bus.
It has been far too long since you have seen your wife and daughter, but there was no dodging the draft. You haven't had contact with them, even through post, for the last few months.

You had hoped that, on the nearly empty bus, you would have been given time to yourself. This notion is quickly dismissed when, at the last stop before yours, a familiar man in a suit gets on. When he sees you, he hurries over and takes a seat next to you. It's your next door neighbor, Robert Speedwagon.

"John, you're back! And in one piece too," he jokes, "Seriously though, how have you been? I can't even imagine what it would have been like to have to leave your family behind like that."

How do you respond?
> I'm fine, you?
> Confide in him
> I don't want to talk about it, how have you been?
> Dismiss him and try to catch some sleep

"It was hard," you say, "Leaving them was bad enough, but the war was something else. A lot of good men died to secure victory. I survived, somehow. Fighting for your life and the lives of your countrymen is scary, sure, but I'm more afraid that I won't be the same man Erina fell in love with. That she won't even recognize me. That she'll leave me."

Speedwagon puts a comforting hand on your shoulder. "That's no way to think, John. You'll come out of this stronger than you ever were before. Erina loves you. You know that. Maybe we should talk about something less dreary. Oh, I know! You remember how I was writing that novel before you left? Well, I'm actually on my way back from meeting with a publisher and..."

The words of comfort were nice, but there's no stopping him once he gets going about one of his ideas.

You decide that it would be better to just let Speedwagon tire himself out.

After what seems like an eternity, you catch sight of Jamestown in the distance as you start across the Newport bridge. Rather suddenly, a thunderstorm begins to pick up.

This was only the start of some strange cosmic coincidence as it would seem, for, not even 10 minutes later, you feel a light rumbling. You hear someone shout in fear from the back of the bus when the rumbling intensifies into a full-blown earthquake. In the bus, you can feel the bridge break apart beneath you and you see the fast approaching sea out of the front of the bus.
>>
>>3000170
For a while, everything is dark.

Then, you feel a presence touch your mind.

It is something ancient, something wrong and you recoil at its contact. It brings with it an intense sense of unease, but it doesn't seem to be acting consciously.

Before you can form more than a few coherent thoughts, it begins to violently dig through your memories, pulling up things you would rather have stayed buried.

You see yourself back on the battlefield, people are dying left and right. It is accompanied by pain. The pain is unbearable, ungodly. You just wish it would stop.

Abruptly, the visions change. You see the same battlefields, but different. You see yourself standing on a mound of enemy corpses, a peculiar gun in hand. It's a rifle, one not unlike those you had used. However, it's soaked in water with bits of seaweed stuck to it. You see yourself, the perfect soldier, unstoppable, unkillable. You win the war singlehandedly. No one can stop you.

A name rings out in your head:
「Seven Nation Army」

You wake up on a beach. It is familiar to you. You used to play here when you were young. The town is not far from here.

What do you do?
>>
>>3000212
>Search for Speedwagon
It would be unfortunate if he drowned.
>>
>>3000251
You decide that you ought to look for Speedwagon.

You find him on the beach a short distance away. He's asleep with a wide grin on his face and seems to be talking to himself.

"Don't worry ladies, there's enough of me to go around," he mumbles.

After a short while, he comes to and sits up.

"John? What happened? Why was I sleeping on the beach?"

How do you respond?
> Explain what happened on the bridge
> Ask about the dreams

>Explain what happened on the bridge
>>
>>3000354
As you detail what happened, Speedwagon develops and progressively deepens a frown.

"That's certainly... worrying. Say John, did you have any weird dreams after the accident?"

Before you have a chance to respond, he interrupts.

"No, that's a silly question," He looks around the beach, "I don't see any other survivors. We should probably head into town."

He turns to face inland, and starts walking.

What do you do?
>>
>>3000392
Take the lead
>>
>>3000404
You catch up with Speedwagon and then pass him, taking the lead.

Not too much later, you arrive at Main Street. Everything is oddly quiet and empty for what should be not long before noon on a Wednesday. The few people you pass on the street do take the time to welcome you back.

When you make it to the block where your house is situated, you realize that something is wrong. Jamestown's only police car is parked right in front of your house. As you approach, the sheriff, Don Schwartz, comes out to meet you.

"I hate to be the bearer of bad news, John, but it looks like your welcome won't be as warm as we would like. You see, Erina has been murdered and little Josephine has disappeared. I'm sorry John, I really am. Unfortunately, three days of searching your house and interrogating the townsfolk has not produced a smidgen of evidence beyond your late wife's body. I was in the process of closing the case when you showed up."
>>
>>3000457
oops, forgot:
How do you respond?
>>
>>3000457
Grab him by the collar and demand to know if this is some sick joke.
>>
>>3000469
You grab Schwartz by the collar.

"You're telling me that my family, the one thing that kept me going past the point where any reasonable man would have died, the reason I fought, the reason I killed. You are telling me that they're dead? Is this your idea of a joke?"

Speedwagon grabs your shoulder, "It's not his fault, John. Let him go."

You let the sheriff drop from your grip and stifle the tears brimmjng at the corners of your eyes.

"I just wanted to see my goddamn family! Was that too much to ask? I need some time to think."

You push past Schwartz and Speedwagon and into your house. You climb the stairs, storm into your room, and let yourself fall onto the bed.

(I'm going to stop it here for the night. I'll update again as early as I can.)

That night, your dreams are odd. Instead of anything related to your recent tragedy, all you can remember of them is you sitting calmly and just watching as some invisible force tears obliterates the entire human race.

The next day, not long before noon, you hear a knock on the door.

You would've just ignored it, but you hear someone shout: "John?"

It's Speedwagon

You sigh and decide that you might as well just let him in. He knows where the spare key is anyway.

You make your way downstairs and open the door.

"What is it?" you say groggily.

"Listen John, I know you're hurting, but locking yourself in your house all day won't make it better. I heard that there's a new priest in town. Maybe he can help you."

What do you do?

From the expression on his face, Speedwagon is trying to think of a way to talk you out of this.

"I'm sorry John, I don't want to do this to you, but the orders came from higher up," something about the way he says this sends a chill down your back.

You glare at him, "I don't care who gave the order! You're going to open the case and I'm going to get my family back!"

"I'm sorry John, I really am, but Father Brando was right. You have no place in his perfect world. 「Mr. Sandman」"

"Honey, breakfast is ready. Come and get it while it's hot," Erina calls from downstairs, waking you up.

You could've sworn... Oh, whatever. It was probably just a bad dream. You slip into your business suit and head on down to breakfast.

Josephine is already sitting at the table, enjoying a small plate of bacon and pancakes. Erina comes out of the kitchen, wearing an apron and carrying a plate of delicious looking food.

"Good morning, honey," she says in a singsong voice and plants a kiss on your cheek, "Did you sleep well?"

Something is wrong here, but you can't quite place your finger on it.

What do you do?

"No, I had an awful dream. I came back from the war and... I guess it doesn't matter now, darling." As we sit down at the table.

Well, whatever it is, you're just glad to see your wife and daughter again.

...'again'?

You must have had a bad dream. Same as usual, you suppose. You can never fully shake off the memories the war left you with.

'The war'...

It's been a long time since then, though. Hasn't it? It always feels like it only just ended, though. Well, whatever, you can dig up old memories later if you're ever in the mood.

"No, I had an awful dream. I came back from the war and... I guess it doesn't matter now, darling," you sit down at the table, across from Josephine. Erina sits next to you.

"Oh, I'm sorry. I hate to dampen your mood even further this morning, but the car broke down. Don't worry. I called around and Sherriff Schwartz will give you a ride."

As you eat, you notice something strange. Every bite you take leaves you feeling hungrier and every sip of coffee makes you thirstier.

You are interrupted from your thoughts by a knock on the door.

"Oh, that must be the Sherriff now. Best not to keep him waiting."

When you open the door and set your eyes upon Schwartz, you are filled with irrational anger. For some reason, you want to attack him. You managed to supress these instincts and follow him to his car after an awkward hello. He starts the car and drives away from your house.

"Say John, what have you got there?"

You look down and see a familiar service rifle clutched in your hands.

"Don't worry John. Nothing is wrong. Everything is perfect. It always will be," he places his hand on your shoulder in what should be a comforting gesture. It's as cold as ice.

"W-What are you?" you pull away from him.

You steal a glance out of the windshield and see that you're driving onto the still broken Newport bridge. A prodding in the back of your mind urges you to pick up the rifle.

"You need to stop the car. If you don't, we'll both drown," you command him.

He lets out a cackle as his head turns to face you independently of his body, "We're so close to That Which Lies Beneath. Our fate is sealed."

You reach for the door handle, but it is gone. The door has been fully merged with the rest of the car. In a panic, you take a shot at Schwartz.

The bullet sinks into his shoulder and your vision is blurred for a second. You are now in the driver's seat and Schwartz is in yours.

"What happened to my family?" you ask, as evenly as you can, given the circumstances.

"Your daughter was selected for the ritual that will awaken That Which Lies Beneath. She is serving a purpose far greater than herself, than any of us! To interfere would be folly. Unfortunately for you, your wife did just that. As a result, Father Brando had to make an example out of her."

"That could be useful, but what if we want to take this Brando down, we'll need more allies, people we can trust," Speedwagon points out.

A knock comes from the nearby window. The owl-man is hovering outside. Now that he is closer you recognize him as Old Man Zepelli, the hermit who has lived on the outskirts of town for as long as anyone can remember.

What do you do?
>>
>>3002528
Wait. We closed those blinds, didn't we? How can we even see him hovering outside through the-

OH GOD. HIS STAND HAS THE ABILITY TO OPEN BLINDS.

Go confront him with this knowledge.
>>
>>3002537
You open the window.

"I heard you needed allies against Dio Brando. I can help you with that," he croaks out.

He pushes past you and lands in the middle of your living room. When he touches down, all of his feathers fall off of him, leaving what looks to be an ordinary old man behind.

Robert looks at you, then at Old Man Zepelli, "Let me guess: he has a stand too."

What do you do?
>>
>>3002640
"I don't know. Why don't you tell us, Zepelli, because I'm almost as lost as he is."
>>
>>3002664
"I don't know. Why don't you tell us, Zepelli, because I'm almost as lost as he is."

"I do indeed have a magic power, but more importantly, I have the advantage you need to defeat Dio Brando and stop his wretched master from waking."

You perk up, "I'm listening."

"You see, Dio was not the first to learn of That Which Lies Beneath. In fact, I belong to a ancient tradition of master and apprentice that exists to ensure it stays right where it is. I have had my eye on you for a while now, John Joestar. I wish to teach you an ancient technique that will allow you to stop Dio in his tracks before he awakens his wretched god on the winter solstice in three weeks time."

Can you trust Old Man Zepelli? Are you willing to leave Josephine in Father Brando's clutches long enough to learn his secrets? What will you do next?
>>
>>3002725
I'm actually going to call it a night
>>
>>3002725
I wanna say yes because it's Zepelli and I wanna get some Hammon while we get our 「Stand」on but that feels kinda metagamey.
We need him to prove we can trust him after all this shit has been flung at us.
>>
>>3003129
agreed
>>
>>3003129
>>3003671
"How do I know I can trust you, Zepelli?"

Zepelli opens his mouth to respond, but before he can, there is a knock at the door.

"Mr. Joestar, are you in?" It's Deputy Clapton.

What do you do?
>>
>>3003717

try to stay calm, tell zepelli to stay silent and let us talk
close the door to the kitchen and answer the door
>>
>>3003729
You motion for Zepelli and Speedwagon to get out of view of the door and move to open the door.

Outside is Deputy Sheriff Clapton, he smiles and waves at you when you open the door.

"Hello Mr. Joestar, it's good to see that you came back from the war unharmed. I just have a few questions for you, don't worry."

How do you respond?
>>
>>3003830
Open the door an be friendly, don't let him in though.
>>
>>3003904
The door is already open and he wants you to answer some questions
>>
>>3003966
Ah right.
"What do you need to know?"
>>
>>3003992
"What do you need to know?"

"You see, I haven't seen Sheriff Schwartz all afternoon. I couldn't help but notice his car parked out front of your house. Is he here?"

How do you respond?
>>
>>3004055
"No. Well he was but he said there was something he had to do."

Try to sound confused about it, like we're trying to understand why he left the car here ourselves.
>>
>>3004055
>>3004109
why would he not contact you, do you have an idea what it is he wanted to do here?
>>
>>3004109
>>3004123
"No. Well, he was, but he said there was something he had to do. I don't know where he went or why he left the car here," you feign confusion.

The second you finish talking, your hands are instantly bound. Looking down, you see a pair of handcuffs has appeared on you.

"Just as I thought," Clapton says, "Nice try, but my 「I Shot the Sheriff」can sniff out any lie. Now, tell me Mr. Joestar, is there anyone else in the house?"

What do you do?
>>
>>3004211
"Your mother. Give her a moment to get dressed." Headbutt him.
>>
>>3004233
"Your mother. Give her a moment to get dressed," You throw yourself forward, headbutting him. At the same time, you feel a shackle manifest around your ankle.

"You think you're funny?" he reaches for his gun.

What do you do?
>>
>>3004300
"Yeah, hilarious! Guess why. Go on. Guess."
>>
>>3004320
At this point, his gun should be making its way out of its holster. Which shows just how inexperienced he is at combat; he's trying to draw his weapon while talking to you on your doorstep, well within arm's reach, never mind the 21-foot distance that officers of the law should be familiar with. Until he can get the barrel of his gun trained on you, he may as well be unarmed.

You're handcuffed. Sure. But you've spent enough time in the trenches these past 2 years that just being handcuffed shouldn't stop you knocking the gun from his hands. After that, grapple him. Bear hug him, if possible, and take him down to the ground with you. We'll see just what the limits of his「I Shot the Sheriff」are.
>>
>>3004320
"Yeah, hilarious! Guess why. Go on. Guess."

"I don't have time for this. I'll ask again, where is Sheriff Schwartz?"

What do you do?
>>
>>3004372
So I'm guessing every time we lie to him chains appear on us. So we'll do like>>3004364 says and throw our wrist chains around his head and yank him into the house. Then yell for Bob to get his ass in here and help.
>>
>>3004401
No, no, that still leaves us chained. What I was proposing was to grapple him to the ground and try to wrap our limbs around him in such a way that immobilizes him.

Then, lie our ass off. Sure, we won't be able to move, but so will he. Which means that if he wants to get out, he has to release the effect of his Stand from us.
>>
>>3004408
Getting Bob and Zepelli to help once we have him down is a safer bet than putting ourselves in more chains.
>>
>>3004408
we can also use the manacles to choke him from behind, he would have to release it then
>>
>>3004211
> Deputy Clapton
>「I Shot the Sheriff」

I feel like Marley would be a little offended, but I guess the cover was more popular then the original.
>>
>>3004401
>>3004408
>>3004418
>>3004420
>>3004364
Before he can react, you grapple him and let yourself fall backwards, pulling the two of you to the ground.

With Clapton in your arms, you proceed to lie enough to make Lucifer blush, burying both of you under a mound of wrought iron chains.

What do you do now?
>>
>>3004454
"So. Deputy. Unless you want me to keep talking until the two of us are crushed like this, I'd suggest you answer some of /my/ questions. Now, /where is my daughter/?"
>>
>>3004627
"So. Deputy. Unless you want me to keep talking until the two of us are crushed like this, I'd suggest you answer some of my questions. Now, where is my daughter?"

"You think you can intimidate me? What are you going to do, kill me?" he chuckles as best he can, constricted as he is.

"John? What's going on?" you hear Robert call.

What do you do?
>>
>>3004665
I'm turning in for the night
>>
>>3005386
I'm ready whenever you guys are
>>
>>3006810
Tell him the truth for once now, "yes"
>>
>>3006945
"Yes. I'm going to kill you if you don't tell me where my daughter is right now."

He laughs again, "You're a fool if you think you can defeat Father Brando's 「Back in Black」."

"Is that you John? Are you under here?" you hear Speedwagon starting to dig through the chains.

What do you do?
>>
>>3007030
Going to sleep bump
>>
>>3009331
Awake and ready to go
>>
>>3007030
Try telling the truth and see if that has any effect on his stand
>>
>>3007030
"That so? Sounds like weak shit to me. But what do I know? I only fucked him alongside your mother last night."
Provoke him to we can goad him into saying more.

One thing to try if this continues is to seeing how his Stand reacts when we say things that we don't know the verity of. It's simple to test: just say something that's a binary truth or falsehood, and then say its opposite; one of them must necessarily be true, and the other false.

If his Stand reacts at all to this, we can use it to start learning things we need to know twenty-questions-style.

>>3010557
We did tell the truth; there was no apparent change.
>>
>>3010567
thats arguably less of a hard truth and more of a possibility. idk if his stand can tell the future trough lie detection
>>
>>3010557
>>3010567
"That so? Sounds like weak shit to me. But what do I know? I only fucked him alongside your mother last night," you goad him. More chains wrap themselves around you.

"As if you could get past his personal bodyguard. Impossible."

What do you do?
>>
>>3010715
try to summon our stand into our hand and just shoot somewhere? we never tried just shooting a wall
>>
>>3010732
With some difficulty, you summon 「Seven Nation Army」to your cuffed hands and take a potshot outwards. You hear the splintering of wood and there is a bright flash of light.

You are standing up against the wall of the room and you see the top of your grandfather clock sticking out from under a pile of chains. Robert is also standing nearby, looking confused.

"Where did you go, Joestar?" Deputy Clapton's muffled but still angry voice calls out.

What do you do?
>>
So it looks like we don't have to just switch places with someone. That's going to be really useful.
>>
>>3010790
Awake and ready whenever y'all are
>>
>>3010790
So Clapton is still in chains, right? If he is, let's just walk out and start questioning him properly. He seems to know something about Dio's stando powah. He knows enough to at least know its name, anyway.
>>
>>3012419
"I'm out here, Clapton. Your chains couldn't hold me. I just have a few questions for you, don't worry," you menacingly intone, "Now tell me, where is my daughter?"

"She's in the belly of the beast. You'd have to fight Father Brando's entire flock to get to her."

What do you do?
>>
>>3012468
"Sounds like you know who's waiting for me. Who are they? *Where* are they? Do they all have Stands like you and I do?"
>>
>>3012490
"Sounds like you know who's waiting for me. Who are they? Where are they? Do they all have Stands like you and I do?"

"Of course they have stands. Father Brando is no fool. I won't say any more, because if I did, they would kill me."

What do you do?
>>
>>3012530
Tell him that if he doesn't tell us more, we'll have a date worse than death waiting for him.
>>
>>3012530
"You'd follow this bastard, even though your life is so disposable to him? Even though he'd kill you for something as simple as giving up information to save your life? Are you an idiot?"
>>
>>3012555
>>3012558
"You'd follow this bastard, even though your life is so disposable to him? Even though he'd kill you for something as simple as giving up information to save your life? Are you an idiot?"

"To save my life?" he cackles, "That is hilarious. You think you're actually a threat to me. You are nothing but an ignorant fool. So long as Father Brando draws breath, I will never die!"

What do you do?
>>
>>3012743
"That so? Literally never die? Unfortunately for you, there's many things far worse than death. Robert, mind heading into the garage and grabbing me some rope?"
>>
>>3012754
"That so? Literally never die? Unfortunately for you, there's many things far worse than death. Robert, mind heading into the garage and grabbing me some rope?"

Robert mumbles a confused, "Okay," and leaves the room.

"You are a fool if you think you've beaten me, Mr. Joestar. I still have my gun after all."

What do you do?
>>
>>3012911
"And i have mine. unlike you though im not buried under a ton of my own chains."

and prepare to fire in case he pulls something after we say that
>>
>>3012954
"And I have mine, without being buried under my own chains."

A gunshot rings out and you reflexively tighten your trigger finger. You loosen your grip, however, when the chains slowly fade from sight, leaving the dead body of Deputy Clapton in plain sight.

Robert returns, rope in hand, "I got the ro... oh, nevermind I guess."

What do you do?
>>
>>3013004
tie him up anyway. you can never be to careful with these bloody stands
>>
>>3013018
You tie up the corpse, just in case.

Zepelli chooses this moment to walk into the room. He looks down at the Deputy's bound carcass.

"It seems like you've been busy," he's sipping from a coffee mug.
