You go to Nakano's house and knock on the door but nobody answers. The car isn't in the driveway and the lights in the house all appear to be off. You're about to go back when the door slowly creaks open and you see Nakano's mother, her eyes red, hair in a bedhead, and dressed only in a t-shirt and her panties. But.... it's the afternoon, isn't it? Are people still like that at this time of day?
She stares at you for a moment, blankly, seemingly not comprehending what's before her until you clear your throat and she seemingly snaps to attention and goes "Nakano isn't here. Go home." and slowly goes to shut the door. You...

You ask if she's alright and she just says "No. It's not my fault. I was just helping." before closing the door. Uh.... well then, that was unsettling. You go and study for the rest of the day.
You don't see Nakano at school for a couple of days. When she does reappear she seems to be really happy though. She says that she's staying at her grandma's house with her dad and that she won't have to study as much anymore because her mom isn't there. You say...

-2 Study, -2 Exercising, -1 Reading, -1 Practicing with Powers, -1 Making friends with your classmates

You diligently study to prepare for your end of term exams and are making good progress. You haven't taken any ranked tests yet though, so you don't know how good you are among your grade. It's probably above average.
You exercise more than before and end up making a pretty good habit of jogging. You make friends with that one tanned teenage girl since you jog that route a lot and find out that her name is Kaneko and that she's the ace of her high school's track team. She corrects your technique a bit and your running speed is improved. Kurosaki seems happy about your increased exercising.
You practice with your powers and work towards...
>Producing more arms
>Seeing if you could make the arms visible to others at will [as in specific people/all people on purpose, not visible all the time]
>Changing the size of your invisible arms
>Seeing if you could make more delicate movements with your arms
>Trying to multitask with the arms [ie making one arm sort through stuff while you do something else]
>Other [if feasible]

You read through the rest of your thriller novel among some other things and find that it was pretty good. You now know that cool guys don't look at explosions.
You maintain your relative popularity in your grade by hanging out a bit, and the few other popular kids outside of your class seem appeased by this, as if a balance of power has been struck. You're on decent terms with them for the time being.

>Date: Wednesday June 16th, 2004

You ask Hikaru and he goes along with it, partially because he doesn't want to disagree with you and partially because he seems interested.
You bring the subject up with Kurosaki and he seems... more excited than you expected. He says that he calls monk and that he'll bring his miniatures. Er, well then.
You call Fukuda up and ask about it and she notes that her Call of Cthulhu group just fell apart and says sure. That was easy.
After that you talk to Murata and he just stares you down and says "Can I bring in a homebrew class?"

You congratulate Kaneko on her sprint and she grumbles and swears more about "That damn Ando." and mutters something like "how can she even run that fast with udders that big". Her friends mostly stifle laughter while talking to her. The glasses man is still adjusting his glasses. Maybe he needs new ones.
You take a look around the neighborhood and come across two groups of three tough looking teenagers staring each other down. Just when you think it's about to be a fight you see one of them begin to beatbox before another starts rapping. The third of the group starts breakdancing. This continues for a verse before the other group starts up. The whole cycle repeats a few times, and you're pretty sure you just saw a real street rap battle. After seeing this spectacle you...

You drop your "sick" breakdancing skills and the teenagers burst out into laughter before going "G'job man, g'job. That's sick." while still laughing their asses off. One of them tries to correct you on the move you imitated but you aren't really getting it. Oh well.
You head over to the library ask Kurosaki if there's any sort of technique you can learn at the last minute like in shonen manga that will let you win the tournament.
He starts thinking for a moment before going "Well, maybe, but we have today, tomorrow, and if you're fine with pretending you're doing some volunteer project or something that could get you out of school four more days after that until you need to stop training before the tournament. So, we have less than six days if you want to master the technique since you'd need to rest for the other one and a half. This would be truly hellish training, and results would not be guaranteed. I do have a couple of ideas though. Actually, make that three. Two of them would be "special moves" you're thinking of, and the last one would just be me trying to polish your technique. Are you interested?"

You say "I'm interested Kurosaki-sensei, I need to win." before he happily nods and goes "Alright young warrior. Well then, we have three options. I can teach you one of the more advanced moves of the Black Vortex Dragoncrusher Style and you can try to use that as your trump card, we can polish your technique for the next six days, or we can see if you're able to access a strand of chi within the next six days which is... extremely unlikely, but worth mentioning. You'd effectively be able to use it to strengthen one of your attacks or speed up your reaction time at one point in the tournament. That's other than the long-term benefits." You reply with...

You tell him that you want him to polish your technique for the time left and he goes "Alright, that's the safest option. You're not incredibly talented, but from what I can tell you're picking this up faster than most would, so by then your moves shouldn't look so... chunky and disjointed."
After that you go "Chi? Is that actually real?" before he indignantly huffs and goes "Of course chi is real! Just because the rest of the world refuses to acknowledge that fact doesn't mean it's not!" he then leaves for a moment before you see him carrying a book on dieting, something he says "people won't miss". He places it on a counter about eight feet away from him and says "Alright, watch closely." before he punches the air. You notice that his moves look different from when he was fighting the Souths and more competent overall. A moment passes and you're just about to call the geezer out when you see the book split into two pieces and fly until it hits the wall. Kurosaki then smugly looks at you and says "You wouldn't be able to do it even if you managed to get a strand of chi, but that's one of the uses of it there." while striking a cool pose. You...

I remember that back in the 70s there was a concentrated effort to go public with this but they all just assumed it was martial arts dojos trying to rip them off." Kurosaki stops talking for a moment before you hear him mutter "It's actually kinda funny" to himself.

You train for about six days and six nights, Kurosaki shoving all of his work onto the Souths and the other employees at the library while he trains you in the library's basement. You notice that eight sets of mats that make up 10x10 feet areas are scattered across the floor and are most likely the arena for the tournament.
You go through physical training every day until you get tired, upon which point Kurosaki either makes you eat a bitter bean (which you later learned is called a 'coffee bean') and continue doing less taxing movement practice or... meditate. Meditation is boring, but you guess it's good for something, otherwise you wouldn't be learning it.
By the end of this six days of extreme training, along with your former training sessions, you've learned that the Black Vortex Dragoncrusher Style is a style which focuses on...

The Black Vortex Dragoncrusher Style is one which focuses on targeting the opponent's vitals, whether it's to knock them out or to kill them. It can be harder to hit the opponent when aiming for the vitals, but the damage inflicted makes up for it.
You study with Nakano at her grandmother's house, but she seems happier while doing it and she's actually willing to take breaks now. She still seems smarter than you though, so that appears to be a constant.
Another day passes and it's time for the sports day in the morning, the fighting tournament after school, and the teenage division of the tournament at night.
In the morning you see that there are a lot of parents visiting the school for sports day and the teachers are helping set up equipment for some of the events. Apparently the winning class is supposed to get a pizza party. You...

Your performance lags behind that of last game, partially due to luck and partially due to the fact that the other team is standing much further away from you than before, but you win the game. Your class is that much closer to the elusive reward of pizza, and you've retained your self-proclaimed title as the Dodgeball Queen.
You watch the rest of the events and see that Hikaru is way faster than you expected and that Nakano is even less athletic than you expected. All in all, it was a pretty good day at school. Your class barely clenches first in the grade and you have been promised pizza for your valiant efforts. You now head over to the library and see Kurosaki standing outside in a suit. He sees you and says "Hello young warrior, the tournament is starting in a couple of hours for your division. There were 37 entries in total. I'm about to go collect the laminated printouts for the brackets, do you want me to make sure you aren't one of the 10 to have to fight an extra round?" You respond...

It seems that chance has decided against you, and you slated for an extra round. You also notice that you're supposed to be fighting Hikaru the round after that. You almost feel bad for him.
You ask Kurosaki about the financials and how the participants in the teenage bracket were decided and he says "Well, first I'll go over the financials."
"We're making 3,600 yen from the entry fees of the kids, 25,600 yen from the teenagers, and 30,000 yen from the food stand's fee. 10,000 is being spent on the employee who's managing the gambling, 20,000 has been spent on renting the mats, decorating the place a bit, getting the brackets made, that sort of thing, and I'm spending 20,000 so that we actually have someone on staff doing first-aid who knows what they're doing. That means the profits will be 9,200 yen plus whatever cut we get of the gambling. I had it set at a pretty low 3% fee, but we could change it if you want." You...

>Decide to leave it at 3%

You decide to...
>Keep the profits for yourself
>Give 25% to Kurosaki

Kurosaki then begins explaining how the teenagers decided who was competing. "Well, the teenagers wanted an even 64 person bracket so the six gangs who were organizing groups to formally go agreed on an amount of representatives each group could send. The Norths sent 12, the Souths sent 10, the Thorns sent 8, the Reapers sent 7, the Gold Rose Gang sent 6, and The Riders sent 5. This made up 75% of the participants. The other 16 were people who held their own preliminary. They were either from gangs who didn't want to organize a group to come or were just strong teenagers who heard about the event." Hm. Well then.

The tournament starts up in a couple of hours and you see that the venue is a bit more empty than you thought. A lot of the Souths are there early since it's on their turf, and you see Kurosaki hanging out with a few other old men who are wearing martial arts outfits, but besides that it's mostly just kids from your school watching from now. There's also Fukuda, who says she'll loudly cheer for you. Good to know.

You go easy on them and just land a normal punch to their abdomen, aiming to push them off of the stage afterwards. Instead they start crying after you punch them and give up. Er, well then. You can hear Fukuda loudly yelling "Yeah, kick their as- oh, nevermind, stop, stop!" after she gives up. You've easily won your first round match and the tournament continues as normal, the other first round matches finishing up shortly after yours. Most of the people being eliminated seemed pretty weak besides one match that dragged on between some second-graders. They only lost after one of them got held down for 10 seconds.
After the first round is over Kurosaki walks up to the center of the mats and loudly yells "Welcome to the 6 to 8 year-old division of the first annual Morales Committee Fighting Tournament! Today we fight for fame, money, and glory, but there can only be one winner among all of the warriors here today! Now, to shortly readdress some of the rules, no attacks to the groin or eyes and no weapons are allowed. A winner is decided when one person touches the outside of the arena, gives up, is incapacitated, declared unfit to fight, or is pinned for 10 seconds or longer. The best of luck to all of you."
Kurosaki then tells the first four matches in block A to queue up, and you see the other old men with him take places to judge the matches. The matches end pretty uneventfully for the most part and now you're up against Hikaru. He seems rather scared. You...

You tell him "To give up and just walk away or to see the horrors of fighting me." and he's ultimately too intimidated to fight you. Having suffered from your powers at the orphanage and seen the true face of the Dodgeball Queen, Hikaru declares his loss. You hear some very confused cheering from Fukuda as she goes from "Yeah, kick this one's ass!" to "Wha- I guess that works too, yeah, intimidate the shit out of them!"
The other participants seem confused but don't really say anything, even if it'd be expected that someone complain when you just win your match through talking. You watch the rest of the matches and there's not really much to note for the time being. Either people are holding back their true strength because they don't have to use it all yet, or most of the people here are pretty weak.
As the third round starts the old men start doing the matches two at a time in order to "make them seem more important", in Kurosaki's words.

You pull him to the ground with your momentum and keep him on the ground for ten seconds despite his struggling, although you're not that much stronger than him. You can hear more of Fukuda cheering and she seems happier now that she doesn't have to change her cheers to accommodate weird stuff happening.
None of the other matches are particularly eventful besides a couple more tooth and nail struggles in the 3rd round, one between two people who seem pretty strong, and one between what appear to be two of the weakest people in the tournament.
The fourth round comes and Kurosaki takes center stage once more, saying that "Now that the quarterfinals are here, we're down to the eight strongest and bravest warriors here. We'll now observe their matches one by one as a show of respect and to give the glory and attention deserved to them." You can hear the other martial arts geezers that are with him muttering something about "That melodramatic idiot." while he speaks.
The match after his announcement is... surprisingly entertaining. The kid that you initially thought was pretty strong goes up to his opponent and attempts to punch him before the other one catches it mid-air. You could see the fist struggling to move after getting caught, but it couldn't do anything. This was followed by him grabbing for the other hand, succeeding, and headbutting the boy who attacked first several times, along with some guttural yells. After this the fight was finished with a short brawl between the two which the headbutter dominated. You guess you have an opponent to look forward to next round.
Your opponent for this round is a boy from your class who you recognize as being slightly more fit than average. You...

You pin them down and they struggle but ultimately don't break free. They probably could, but their resolve seems gone after being punched and kicked in the face over... and over... and over...
You've won the much and the teenagers seem to be amused and the next match of the semifinals begins. You go near the three old martial arts geezers who aren't refereeing right now and they just laughing about how "the little kid tripped on nothing" and how stupid he looked. The next match is won when one of the boys charges at the other and is consequently grabbed and swung out of the ring.
The loser of that match and the person you beat up face off in a 3rd place match and the person you beat up, although he seems more injured, wins without too much trouble.
You approach the ring for the final match after another cheesy speech from Kurosaki, and notice that there are hundreds of teenagers crowding around now. Activity at the betting table has picked up as a few of them decided to bet on the finals for this division and far more have prepared to set up initial bets for the upcoming high school division. So I'm thinking Tamomo no mae and Kali for symbolism and allusion. I'm not sure what I, but they're things that crossed my mind in relation to the quest.

We should read Journey to the West.

How well can we control the arms while doing other things? The next time we scheduele , we should do as the other anon said and practice that kind of stuff. That way we can work on advancing them while still improving in other areas.

An officer's coat would be cool.

I wonder if OP is in a fighting tournament too.

What you can immediately gleam from the first matches of the high school division is that these people are far better at fighting than the children you just beat up. They're probably better than the vast majority of high schoolers, but since they're high-ranking gang members for the most part, this should be a given. Most of the matches end relatively quickly, but... one of them is still going on.
The two fighting appear to be a 17 or 18 year-old who's easily dodging whatever is thrown at him, and a 15 or 16 year-old who's tired and has a look of despair in his eyes. The young kid intermittently gets hit while the other one dodges his strikes leisurely. He seems to be dragging it out on purpose.
A full couple of minutes after the rest of the matches have ended you see a group of men in suits walk in and the boy yells "Fuck, you guys are late. Why do I have to drag this out for you if you're not going to show up on time. Whatever, you're here." before you see a blow, far more powerful and faster than those thrown before, land on the other kid's face. He immediately hits the ground, unconscious and bleeding out of his nose.
Kurosaki goes to announce the next matches before the winner says "Hold on old man, I have something to say. As some of you may know, I'm the first seed. What none of you do know is that I'm the strongest fighter that Central has in this region, Goto. Yes, THAT Central. Now, we know a lot of you guys have a bone to pick with us, especially the Norths and Souths after that little gang war incident, but we don't have the resources to deal with all you fucks right now. That's why I was sent here. We're gonna put up a $5,000 bet against every one of you on me winning the tournament, I'm going to win, and then we're going to get $30,000 all together from you guys once I win. Any questions?"
You hear some muttering before Murata, the leader of the Norths, and four other people step out of the crowd. You hear the leader of the Norths yell "Why the fuck should we take you up on that? There's no reason for us to risk all of our funds like that when have maybe an 80% chance of losing." The boy on stage just smiles before he says "What if I said we had a few cops outside?" The six gang leaders falter and whisper among each other for a moment before one of them flatly says "We accept."
Goto smiles and claps his hands before he says "Excellent! Suits, get the money to that betting stand over there. You, gangs, send some of your guys to go get the cash before we're done. I don't want to stick around and wait for you guys to pawn off your motorcycles or whatever to get it."
You hear some grumbling as a few gangsters leave the place, assumedly to grab the $5,000 from each gang. You're not really sure what's going on, but, uh, this seems to be more gang intrigue of some sort. You...

You ask the old guys why Goto mentioned them in between matches and they just shrug and give you answers along the lines of "Dunno."
After that you ask who Goto is and get the same sort of responses, but when you get around to asking what Central is supposed to be one of them actually has an answer. He goes "Central is... a semi-yakuza gang? They're larger than any high school gang would be, far more professional, and they have some sort of backing. They're mostly made up of former high-ranking high-school gang members who are in their 20s. They do have some younger members who decide to skip over joining a normal gang and join them directly though. They're trying to clear out some of the high school gangs in what they deem 'their territory' but can't really devote much effort to it because they have their hands full dealing with actual yakuza."
After the old man says this the other one whose name you don't know seems to have realized something and goes "Oh, well, that would explain why he respects me at least. In my younger days I was a member of the yakuza for about 30 years. I didn't realize my name was still around though."

A stabbing seems imminent before you see Kurosaki thrust his palm forward faster than any of the gangster's seem to be able to move so far and a visible ripple travels through the air. The ripple heads for the knife and you can see the knife fly out of his hand and onto the ground. The teenager who had the knife is now getting the everliving shit beaten out of him by his opponent. You...

You take all of the money the violator has (10,000 yen), give half of it to the victim, and throw him out. Some of the gang members from the gang the victim was a part of are very eager to escort him out, and you feel like he's probably not getting off very easily.
The second round begins and the mood is far more somber than before, and you can feel Kurosaki weighing whether or not to make another cheesy speech. He seems to decide against it before the round begins, once again in groups of four.
Fukuda steps up and you see a well-built man wearing a white martial arts robe. He wishes her a fair fight and all that and bows and... she seems to be going along with it? They begin fighting and after a short exchange you can tell that she's probably outmatched in ability, but before that can really come into play you see a handful of sand shoot out of her pocket and into the martial artist's eyes before he screams "WHAT THE- MY EYES!" before Fukuda follows up with a flurry of blows that leaves her with an easy path to victory. Well, that wasn't particularly honorable, but she did win. You...

She seems confused before she goes "No, not really. If you didn't want me throwing pocket sand at people you should've worded the rules better. As it is it's allowed, even if people wouldn't expect it to be. My fighting style relies on who wins, not honor." You respond with...

It's a mess. I don't want to just blow off honor, but she has a point. We should've explained the rules better and winning is sometimes more important than honor. So I tried to make it come off as understanding, but still not exactly content.

She listens your response and goes "Yeah, but my promotion could be riding on this and 500,000 yen (oh god, I put it in USD earlier, rip) is a lot of money for the gang. If I can make it further ahead while dealing with less, it's a better chance to get rid of that Goto asshole and to get promoted. Sorry Buki-chan, that's how the cookie crumbles."
The fights continue and you can tell that a few people are clearly above most of the others and are probably the either gang leaders or second in commands. In addition, you see several matches where members of gangs concede to their superiors without fighting, assumedly so they can conserve their strength for later. You can't really blame them, considering you basically did that earlier.
As the matches continue on hype piles onto a few frontrunners to take down Goto; Murata, the leader of the Norths, the second-in-command of the Thorns, and the leader of the Reapers.
At the start of the Top 16 Kurosaki seems to have regained his courage and gives a speech about "The epic struggle between six kingdoms' strongest warriors and an outside invader now that the weak have been culled in a great war.", revealing at the end of his five minute epic that it was all a metaphor for the tournament here today. Alright then.
Goto continues steamrolling through his opponents, his strongest opponent so far appearing to be significantly weaker than even Fukuda. It's time for Fukuda's next match and you see that she's up against the second-in-command of her gang. You expect her to concede before you just hear her superior go "So, you're not conceding, right? Let me test you out?" They exchange blows for about thirty seconds and actually seem to be pretty even before you see the second-in-command go "Alright, either of us will work. You have more potential than me, get at him." This victory places Fukuda as Goto's next opponent which is sure to be interesting at least.
You briefly muse over the fact that Fukuda seems to be way stronger than she was when you initially mugged her. You're not sure whether the growth is recent or whether she held back because you were kids, but you're lucky either way.
The third round continues on and you see that the top eight is made up of all gang-leaders and second-in-commands besides Fukuda and Goto.
At this point the people left seem to be arguing over who gets to continue on to the next rounds and focusing on wearing down Goto more than fighting each other. It turns out that the risk of losing 500,000 yen really motivates people. Their match is about to start and you...

You get close enough to the arena to use your arms on a small portion of it with the excuse that you're the organizer and you want to watch from there.
Goto stares at you warily as they prepare to fight, and after a moment Fukuda begins fighting. You immediately notice that she seems to moving faster than in the previous rounds. Whether it's adrenaline allowing it or she's just giving it all she has, even if she burns out quickly, you're not sure.
Fukuda is put on the back foot after several of her blows are blocked, and she ends up dodging attack after attack from Goto. Eventually they're within about eight feet of you and you...

You don't interfere and you let her fight it out on her own for the time being. Eventually the dodges become closer and closer and a few scratch her. Just when you think she's about to be overwhelmed you see her throw off her jacket, using it as cover as she attacks Goto. She manages to land a punch this way and follows it up by dropping some ball bearings on the ground where he's standing. Surprisingly enough Goto doesn't seem to slip on any of them, escaping the charge with just a punch to the face.
They head back into close combat then, and Fukuda seems far more aggressive than before. Goto takes a few hits, but not before Fukuda takes two or three for every one she inflicts. This continues until Fukuda looks like she call fall at any moment and Goto actually looks a bit worse for wear, although it's not enough to stop him from fighting again later. At one point she's attempting to dodge a heavy hit to the side of the head, and you see her easily move past it before her head seems to move back into the range for the hit and take a heavy blow.
Fukuda falls onto the ground with a confused look on her face before Goto begins gloating. He says "You fucks can't beat me. You lasted longer than I thought you would though. Guess you're one of the better pieces of trash. Better work hard to earn that money ba-" before you see him interrupted by Fukuda beginning to get up. In fact, everyone in the arena seems to surprised by her getting up. She was so beaten up it wouldn't be surprising for her to pass out for a few hours.

She has a grim look on her face, and she turns back to her boss and yells. "Hey, boss! Depending on this goes, I might not be able to be back for a while. But I have to give this all I've got now. I think I'm close to something." Fukuda proceeds to spit a clot of blood out of her mouth before she charges at Goto while she throws more ball bearings on the ground. After that she throws a few individually at Goto, but they seem to land with far less force than they should have normally. Goto manages to avoid slipping on any of the balls as he charges towards Fukuda, whose movement is restricted by her own trap. You're not sure why, but she's smiling as a hit even heavier than before begins to travel towards her mouth. Fukuda yells "That's it! Holy shit!" as a hit begins to land on her face. As she's knocked down you just hear her say "It's magnetism!", before her words are made unintelligible through the punch to her jaw. This time Fukuda doesn't get up within 10 seconds and is declared incapacitated. Despite his victory you see a shocked look on Goto's face as he seems to turn pale for a moment before it returns to normal. Before he leaves the arena you simply hear him say "Since we're allowed to use these apparently, I'll take some." before he grabs a handful of ball bearings off the ground and shoves them into his pockets.
You're not sure what just happened. Magnetism? How is that relevant?

>Go over to the medical station and see how long Fukuda is gonna be out
Had a feeling something like this might happen when her potential was brought up.
>>
>>3020443
You quickly head to the "medical station", which is essentially just the medic Kurosaki hired, a first aid kit, and some more (softer) mats. You see that Fukuda is still unconscious and ask how long she'll be out.
The doctor examines Fukuda for a little bit before going "I dunno. My guess is she'll wake up between 8 and 12 hours from now. Luckily none of the injuries seem to be too serious, although I'd recommend that she rest up for a week or two, she took a good beating." As the doctor finishes talking you hear the second-in-command of the Norths say "Well, that's good at least." from behind you. He then heads back to the group of gang leaders and second-in-commands who are talking in a far less hushed tone than before.
You look around and you notice that the current fighters are just dragging things out so that discussion about the last fight can continue. The rules against this are pretty lax, so they'll have plenty of time. You...

Might as well do both since we have time. Also, the old guys are cool.
>>
>>3020481
As you near them you see that Murata, his second-in-command, the leader of the Norths and his second-in-command, and two more groups of two, and two more people who are alone are arguing. That adds up to two from each gang besides the two who are on-stage pretending to fight right now.
You see them separated into two distinct groups, the Norths, Souths, and one other gang on one side, and the rest on another.
One of the leaders yells "Why are we delaying anyways?! We don't need to let that guy recover just because she said something dumb before she passed out. She got a few decent hits in on him and waiting is just wasting them." before you hear the leader of the Norths say "Look, she's a member of my gang and if I say it's not nonsense it's not fucking nonsense. Something he's doing has to be related to magnets or magnetism somehow. Maybe that's why she did that with the ball bearings? They're made out of metal after all."
As the two groups continue arguing all they can really come to a conclusion about is the fact that is has something to do with why she used the ball bearings and that it probably wasn't nonsense, although whether Fukuda is correct is another thing altogether.
You head over to talk to the old men and listen to their commentary about the fight and one of them notes that the whole was overall odd. He states that the final hit before Fukuda went down for the first time and the ball bearings both don't make sense. The punch only landed because Fukuda moved back in after dodging successfully, almost as if she was pulled towards him. Besides that, Goto didn't pay any caution to the ball bearings at all. It would be a miracle if he managed to dodge them all. The ball bearings Fukuda threw almost seemed to slow down before they hit him as well. He notes that he has a theory but that he isn't willing to say anything about it yet.
The conversation between the gang leaders and their seconds as well as the fake fight seem to be wrapping up. You...

Should also do this. Sounds like he can control magnetic fields or something. I hope we get to fight him.
>>
>>3020521
You feel like you're really close to figuring it out but can't fit the last pieces together. The magnetism must be moving the bearing but... where would the magnets come from? He can't just hide hide-powered magnets in his clothes, can he? This doesn't make sense.
The next fight starts before you can finish thinking. Time Goto is fighting against the leader of the Reapers. He seems to be stronger than Fukuda, but still a bit weaker than Goto. As they continue fighting Goto has the upper hand but seems frustrated by the amount of energy he's expending. He grabs a ball bearing out his pocket and goes "Let me end this!" before flicking flicking it with as much force as possible towards the leader of the Reapers. It seems to be moving faster than you thought was possible before it flies towards the leader of the Reapers and hits him heavily in the hand, leaving a rather bloody bruise. After a few more ball bearings and some normal fighting the fight is over with less trouble than expected for Goto.
That's it! You figured it out! Goto must have the power to mildly attract and repel metal from himself somehow! As you head over to the gang leaders and second-in-commands, you tell them this as they're just about to reach the same conclusion, although they still seem slightly skeptical of the idea that someone could do that. They decide that the leader of the Norths, Endo-san, will pass on the next match since he has a metal tooth and send Murata out to fight, although he's only wearing a t-shirt, sweatpants, boxers, and shoes now after triplechecking that the outfit didn't have any metal pieces. Seems unfair. If we're going to assist Murata I think we should focus on slowing down those ball bearings. Plus Goto's a jerk that called Onee-san trash.
>>
>>3020606
You stand about five feet away from the arena with Kurosaki, which is close as you can reasonably get without making it extremely obvious that you're doing something. The fight begins and Murata charges towards Goto before you see them exchange a ridiculously fast flurry of blows within a short period of time. You note that they seem to be matched evenly before you take magnetism into account and the fact that Goto is already a bit worn down while Murata isn't. After a minute or so of this Goto finds an opportunity to flick some ball bearings towards Murata and you put an arm each on them to slow them down. They're slowed down enough for Murata to dodge and you continue this throughout the fight.
About five minutes in both sides are beginning to run out of strength and you can notice Goto occasionally glancing at you with a look of loathing for the past minute or two of his ball bearings missing the mark.
Murata and Goto go in for an exchange of blows when you decide that it's time to end the fight. You hold down one of Goto's legs with as much force as you can and it slows him down enough to send a punch from Murata crashing into his face. Blood flies across the arena and from there on you don't even need to help and Murata finishes the fight himself. Kurosaki announces the winner and you can hear a very loud cheer. You...

>>3022133
You count up the money from the bets and see that 7,000,000 was bet in total, 6,000,000 of it due to the Centrals attempt to get some easy money. That adds up to 300,000 yen in gambling fees after you take the double fees for Central into account. You give 150,000 to Kurosaki and keep the other half for yourself. You go over to Goto and try to talk him but right after you start talking he says "I don't need your pity. This'll be finished when we have the time to get rid of these gangs." and starts hobbling off with the suits he brought along. As far as I can tell he was only using it from his body, but I have no idea how. Maybe it's magic, maybe it's magnets sewn into his clothes."

You see, I'm mostly retired, but he's generally traveling around the country in engaging in underground tournaments, dojo defenses, life and death battles, that sort of thing. The only way to get trained by him would be to convince him to let you follow him around the country, and at that point you'd have to abandon your normal life and risk possible death. You ask where he went and he says "Well, I can't really list everywhere off but I spent a couple of days in Osaka, went through Kobe, hitchhiked my way from there to Izumo, and then went around visiting the shrines and stuff. I found a weird old man in one of the shrines off the beaten path and he showed me some stuff that was pretty cool and gave me this."
Sakamoto pulls out a purple, faintly-glowing candle and says "The old man said that if I lit this while a spirit was targeting me or otherwise haunting me I'd be able to take control of it, although it would completely burn out then. Not sure whether I believe it or not but I got it for helping him out for a couple of days and he seemed like he knew what he talking about. After that you ask the important question: Whether he brought back souvenirs. You succeed in bribing the other classes successfully without interference from their cliques. This has allowed you to pull slightly ahead in terms of popularity, solidifying your power in your grade.
School ends and you head over to the library. There you see Kurosaki and Kanozaki. Kanozaki simply stares at you and says "I'm in town for two more days. You'll have 48 hours to figure something out, and you might die depending on how things go. You willing to try it?" You can't really tell whether he's serious or not, but he seems straightforward at least.

He takes a look at the sword and goes "Oh-ho, this is a decent blade for a bokuto. Made out of a wood which can conduct chi, good craftsmanship, and the wood had been grown on purified land. Looking at the build it seems to be from... one of the Izumo craftsmen? Either that or someone who follows their style? It has room to be enchanted later as well, it's certainly not a bad blade." he hands it back to you and you're really not sure whether he made that all up or not, but he is correct about it being from Izumo as far as you know.
After this the look on Kanozaki's face seems to grow deathly serious and you feel the air around you grow stifling. You're asked to follow him and Kurosaki into an empty room and you follow him. After this Kanozaki turns towards you and says "I'm going to exude a portion of my killing intent. If you don't pass out, that means you're worth giving some of my time. I have people asking to be my disciples all the time so I don't feel like spending my spare time becoming your half-teacher if you're not up to snuff."

You steady your body as you feel an overwhelming wave of murderous intent rush over you. It feels dark and fills your mind with a sharp pain that seems to dig into the deepest crevices of your mind. You can almost feel the mental equivalent of your invisible arms pushing against the force as your legs begin to buckle from the pain. Beyond the pain you feel like this intent is taking over your thoughts, replaying scenes of violence in your head. You see a man, first in his teens, then in 20s, and quickly aging to become an old man, striking down dozens with a sword, leaving only corpses behind.
As your mind fights a losing battle to hold the intent back you feel like 5, 10, and then 15 minutes have passed before you faintly hear Kanozaki say "Seven seconds. Impressive. Three more and I'll be willing to train you." Seven seconds?! How has this been seven seconds?! You steel your mind as you feel your vision turn dark, only bits of light and slight sounds anchoring you to reality. After what feels like far too long for a second you hear Kanozaki say "8."
Your thoughts retreat from the state of your body, focusing only on the struggle in your mind before you hear "9." and everything fades to black before you hear ten. When you come to you feel like everything was almost a dream and simply see yourself staring at the ceiling of the room you were in. You hear Kurosaki say in a surprised tone of voice "She's already awake!" before Kanozaki goes "Ah, so she is."
You try to lift yourself off the ground only to realize that there's an aching pain throughout your body. Kurosaki says "Don't try to get up, trying to fight against that drained the strength against you. Normal people can be injured through a master's killing intent. I was going to intervene if it looked like you were going to be injured, but it looks like that wasn't necessary."
You hear Kanozaki say "I'm going to head back now, remember to meet me for drinks later."
After that you hear Kanozaki say in a kindly tone of voice "Good job. Somebody with no mental training should have had no chance of resisting that for as long as you did. Clearly you possess some sort of natural strength in your soul. I'll give you some tips next time I'm in town, by then your soul should have reached the starting line."
Eventually you recover, although your body is aching all over. You

Kurosaki says "Well, in simplified terms, killing intent is a combination of one's willingness to kill if needed, mental resilience, the strength one's soul, and a use of one's chi, whether consciously or unconsciously. This all combines to form a force which can be physically felt, and against significantly weaker opponents used to send them into a frenzy of fear, immobilize them, or knock them out. In your case, if Kanozaki had used all of his killing intent you probably wouldn't be dead, but it wouldn't be a stretch to say that you'd be 7 when you woke up." You...

"Will you teach me?"
Beinag able to knock people out with our mind would be borh useflul and fun.
>>
>>3027342
Kurosaki says "Having a strong intent doesn't necessarily mean you've killed a lot of people, although it generally comes with the territory. In Kanozaki's case, yes, he has killed a lot of people due to circumstance. Life and death is very different in the underground. What you saw were likely memories of some of his kills. That's slightly unusual, but not particularly notable, it happens fairly often. Hands pushing against the evil intent... I haven't heard of that before, but I have heard of other manifestations of your soul's will. Shields, ki beams, a sea of arrows being split apart by a sword, there are all sorts of metaphors your mind can make with these things. They generally relate to your approach towards either life or combat though, so it seems odd that hands would be what appeared."
You ask Kurosaki if he can teach you and he says "Cultivating a strong killing intent comes with true power and a certain ruthlessness. I'm able to use it myself, but my attitude holds me back. Don't worry, if you continue along your path of martial arts young warrior, you'll find that certain abilities come to you. Whether killing intent is one of them depends on your mindset in the future, and I personally think it's rather... unethical to purposefully force one devoid of mercy on a child."
You then go back to the orphanage, having Kurosaki help you back so that you don't fall down from exhaustion in the streets. Once you get back you quickly collapse onto your bed and greet the next day with a soreness in your muscles.
Over the next day at school the Morales Committee rebounds back up to 9 members, likely due to your victory in the fighting tournament and the candy you gave out yesterday. Your muscles still hurt in, your mind feels drained, and you feel like falling asleep. You...

You stay awake through class and see Fukuda outside but don't really get the chance to say anything to her as you sleepily stumble towards home with her assistance. You just remember her saying "You seem pretty out of it, I'll come back tomorrow." before you go to sleep.
>Date: Wednesday June 30th, 2004
You feel much better now and only a slight soreness in your muscles is left. You note that you feel slightly stronger than before, almost as if you went through exercise by being knocked out like that. The day at school is more normal and you get the date for the end of the first term announced as July 21st, 2004, with exams being done the day before that. The exam subjects will be Japanese, History, Math, Science, and English and a ranked practice exam will be held on the 7th and graded by the 11th. The rest of the school day goes by without much memorable happening and you see Hikaru cheerfully taking his weird board game with the checkerboard into the Morales Committee room.
Outside the school you see Fukuda again, still with her jaw wired shut. She says (more understandably than before, she seems like she's used to speaking with her jaw wired shut now) that her family is a 4th of July barbecue soon and is wondering if you want to come. You...

You ask what the 4th of July is and Fukuda says that it's a holiday from America where they celebrate their independence from the British by having lots of fireworks explode and having barbecues with lots of beer and meat. Sounds different from Japanese ones, but hey, fireworks!
You ask what kind of stuff Fukuda's brother is focused on and she thinks for a moment before flatly saying "He's focused on drawing stuff instead. He could study more but he says that he doesn't really need to get into the very best school when that's not his goal, which is fair enough. I could get into a better school if I wanted to study but that would mean I have less time honing my fighting skills."
Fukuda then leaves and you do your training with Kurosaki for the day before reading Journey to the West until bed. The writing is really hard to get through, but at least it's interesting.
The next day after school you go to Fukuda's house and see that it's pretty nice. It's not huge but it's not small either, and the yard is well taken care of. You enter and see a foreign-looking blond woman talking to a boy that resembles Fukuda but who looks slightly older. You...

especially since it's only one person whose vote is needed we should agree on how to build our char in the future.
We have buttload of money to bribe our way into the popular kids territory, act less chunni and stay in higher social hierarchy.
Study well and train our martial arts do have a reason to be respected as well.
Middle school will then go more student council and martial arts club (karate/kendo/archery/we'll see what's available)

Opposite is to go more delinquent route and let ourselves be delinquent-ish.
join gang, rise up, become yakuza?
I don't know, I don't like the endgame of it. Maybe become a street performer, have fun and live day to day.

I'm OK with going the delinquent brat path a little more, once we get to middle school we should focus on something else tho (training, studies, etc.).

if we slack our studies in elementary that habit sticks to make it harder to study later.
but I also know we need to have fun too, we're a kid after all.

I just want to be the elegant beautiful student council president who has a supernatural secret. But let's hope no shonen anime protagonists run around

That's why we just spent an entire day studying. We're a good girl.

I agree on school life. As for delinquency, if were to get more involved in gang stuff, I'd prefer to make our own. Maybe be some sort of vigilante. I kind of want to be a tough shounen protag while still being a model student.
