We are Sirena Le Doux and we seek revenge against our former master. So far, we've grown powerful enough to become the Witch Queen, but there is much more to learn. With our list of allies and teachers ever expanding, we won't stop until we've reached the top, because that's where our former master waits.

Last time, we explored the dreamscape of our ancestor before fending off a demonic invasion of the realm of Aran at the hands of our brother, Jeaneus, before killing him and taking his soul. We then rescued a princess from the moon. After teaming up with the Witch Hunter and presenting our brother's soul to his organization, they have pledged to support taking down your former master who is planning a coup in less than a month to take over the country and create an empire ruled by an elite class of mages. After venturing to a dark tomb to assist Alex in recovering information related to his family curse, and running into the necromancer Albert, you ended up leaving the tomb with more than just information...

Our story continues!
>>
After an exceptionally eventful evening in which you and your allies travelled to Youngwater to rescue Merriam and her friends from a horde of undead, an attack orchestrated by none other than Albert himself, you find yourself in Aran, consulting with your innermost circle. Faye is here, along with the changeling Isseal (in disguise as a lovely necklace currently worn by Faye), Xiax'zas the Lich, your guard captain Vorkath, the Red One, Sheldrake and all of your cult heads and army leaders. Having transported the young necromancer Sophilia into Aran and temporarily confined her to quarters, allowing you to focus on more important matters, you turn towards your council and speak.

"The time of my revenge draws near," you inform them. "In less than a month, Mordrax will spring his trap. That is the moment I will face him and kill him for the injustice he delivered onto me." Several cheers rise from the council, but you did not summon them for their emotional support. You raise your hand and they grow silent. "The time has come to start moving all of my pieces on the board into the perfect positions. Recently, I acquired several new ones, but I hesitate to move all of them into place at once. There are some outlying issues that need be dealt with in some manner."

The Red One rises. "The Shadow Demons, my queen?"

Sorn, the centaur, shakes his head. "The attack on Binulia."

Xiax'zas, still seated, guesses, "The undead army led by the necromancer."

Faye shrugs. "Our family? We could probably take more of them out."

"All of these are pressing matters," you tell them, quelling more discussion as it threatens to overwhelm the table. "And others, as well. But yes, I desire to allocate resources towards these issues."

You sit down at the head of the table alongside your twin and consider which issue you find to be the most pressing.

>We must eliminate the shadow demons from Aran, so no more surprises pop up in our home.
>We must support the attack on Binulia with our forces so as to draw attention away from our area of operation.
>We must deal with the undead led by Albert, his brothers and their father so they do not become a third faction to deal with.
>We must focus on eliminating more members of my family, who are actively attempting to hinder my efforts and plans.

Not the most important issue, but we need to half a healthy base before we move forward.

>We must focus on eliminating more members of my family, who are actively attempting to hinder my efforts and plans.
With no warlock sibling, the demons can be dealt with in due course. Binulia can be handled soon, and getting stuck in with the undead brothers will lead to a quagmire we can't afford to get stuck in. Removing members of the Le Doux family will have the most direct impact on clearing our route to Mordrax, never mind all the other noble families in his pocket.

"My family represents my greatest obstacles in my path to Mordrax, and some of his greatest assets. As my wonderful twin so eloquently put it, we must take more of them out."

Faye beams a smile as you rise and begin to circle the room. You look at your lich minion. "Xiax'zas, Perilynth is still infiltrating my family's staff, correct?"

"Yes, my queen."

"I will require an update on their current status. I am aware that after I nearly destroyed my family home, they have been taken in by the royal family at Mordrax's behest. What I need to know is when they are vulnerable or traveling. I want you to get in contact with her as soon as this meeting is concluded."

"At once, your majesty."

The Red One respects your desires, but once again voices her concerns over the shadow demons. Sheldrake looks at her. "I am keeping them at bay, for now. They will not slip through my watch a second time."

"They, the undead and the attack are all matters I intend to resolve soon enough," you explain. "What I wish to discuss now is the fact that we must turn our eyes towards the capital of Highvale. While I already have a cult within, and a revenant spy in the ranks of my family's staff, I must have greater numbers within for that is where the battle shall take place."

Faye looks up from her nails. "If I remember correctly, you said that organization is also going to be preparing for the battle, right? They'll have minions in the capital."

"Yes, of course, but I'll need my own. I fully expect that I'll need every single asset I've acquired in some way, shape or form to be present in or just outside city for when the time comes. Modrax already demonstrated his spell of anti-teleportation in the form of a violent storm, so I expect he'll do so again."

"You could have some of your minions move in with the cultists," Shaedara suggests.

Corus makes another point. "What about a ship? The capital has a large port. With enough money, one could have a crew ready at the docks at all times."

"We could purchase some property within the capital or find some for ourselves underneath it," the Matchless Companion offers.

You cup your chin and consider the options laid out before you.

>I will have some of my minions and allies move in with the infiltration cult
>I will send ships to the harbor and stage my allies there
>I will purchase property within Highvale, or find a hiding place beneath it

All of those ideas have their own appeal. "I shall use all of them to some degree," you announce. Turning to your cult heads and army leaders, you inform them, "Until I decide who shall assist in the battle in Highvale and who shall assist in the attack on Binulia, prepare your forces."

Sorn lets out a dismissive snort. "The demon attack sated the bloodlust of my men, for now. I doubt they will be of much use in the puny human capital."

"In this we agree, but I still may have some use for you and your men elsewhere. Until I give the command, keep them in line."

Sorn nods respectfully. Though he is a brute, he saw your battle against your brother and has come to appreciate your cunning, especially after using his centaurs to such brutal effectiveness against the demon flanks.

"How will you attend the ball, my queen?" Vorkath asks. "And will you be needing protection?"

"Rest assured that you and the royal guard will play a role, but I shall attend the ball as a guest of the high elven king. I shall pull my newfound strings and influence to secure an invitation for myself and a select number of my most powerful and trusted minions; they shall help me destroy Mordrax in a direct confrontation. All of my other assets will be preoccupied fighting his minions throughout the capital, I imagine."

He nods and says no more.

"There is one other matter that I would seek council upon," you say, walking back to your seat. "Recently the town of Youngwater was attacked by an undead horde. The necromancer Albert manipulated some of the students of Bratia into creating summoning circles within the town that allowed him and his army to flood within its enchanted walls. I have secured one such ex-student, a girl by the name of Sophilia. I would like to find some use for her, but I have several matters upon my plate already. Who wants her?."

Xiax'zas the lich speaks up. "If she desires to learn necromancy, I can teach her."

Both the Witch Queen's Daughters and Antumbrian Order cults offer to integrate her into their lurid rituals, and she could have a place in one of the several non-sex cults as well.

Faye purses her lips. "Perhaps we could experiment on her with the black goo? See what happens in small doses."

The Red One suggests she be made to clean the Umbral Citadel alongside Alicia, the mind-wiped drow. It would humble her.

"Set her to work in the citadel. Make her scrub every floor and every wall. How long will that take, Sheldrake?"

"A year."

"Then so it shall be. When she has finished cleaning every inch of every room and learned her place, she'll be allowed to learn magic from you, Xiax'zas."

From your position at the table, you look at all of the assembled and tell them, "You are dismissed, but know that I will be speaking with each of you soon. All that I have worked towards will soon come to fruition, and those who have served me most faithfully will be greatly rewarded when I have achieved my revenge. I will not forget those who have wronged me, but I also will not forget those who helped me make it right."

They all rise and bow to you and Faye before departing. Once they have all done so and the chamber is locked, leaving only you, the Red One, Sheldrake and Faye, Isseal flips off of her neck like a snake. Once on the floor, she coils up and grows in mass and size until she is once more in her changeling form.

You continue to pace slowly. The Red One tilts her hooded head and asks, "You are at unease, my queen. You must relax."

"I shall relax upon Mordrax's corpse," you mutter, but you calm down and try to take her advice. "Much weighs upon my mind. I have assembled so many assets, minions and resources--I must now focus on using them all to their full effect. Sheldrake, the list."

Sheldrake raises his hand and manifests a list before handing it to you. Your eyes run up and down it, deciding where to focus your attention first. In this, you shall leave no stone unturned.

First and foremost will be Ben, currently residing within Cliffbrooke Manor.

As one of the heroes who rescued the high elven princess from the moon elf, his invitation to the ball is certain. He has trained under several individuals to proficiency with his sword and shield fighting style, has enhanced strength, speed, stamina and senses due to his lycanthropy (which he can control thanks to the moonstone), and is equipped with an enchanted shield that will protect him from magic.

Furthermore, as one of the individuals you have put the most time and effort into molding, he is a key figure in your plan to slay Mordrax. The child of a man wrongfully murdered sent into a life of adventure, eventually helping to slay the would-be emperor of an arcane empire; every detail about Ben has been carefully crafted by you to turn him into the ultimate storybook hero, primed and ready to be beloved by the people.

At least in public, anyway. But that's all that truly matters. They don't need to know about the things he's gotten up to behind closed doors.

But surely there must be some room for improvement in the coming few weeks...

>Ben has never been brought to his limits. He must face an opponent greater than he can manage on his own.
>Ben must diversify his fighting style, and learn to battle with alternate weapons.
>Ben must be equipped with greater magical gear, to enhance his already potent strength, speed and durability.
>Ben cannot be worn out by more training. Instead, he must remain prepared for the day when it will all count.

He will need an opponent who can truly test him, someone with powers that exceed his own. Ben has faced nothing but overall success, but true greatness is not found in victory, but in overcoming adversity. Even you were brought down from a position of great power and influence and forced into exile.

While you certainly don't have time for that for Ben, you can have him face an opponent who can absolutely wreck him and give him new challenges to overcome, both physically and mentally.

>Krom, the Demigod: His strength alone will trump Ben; he will be like a wall that Ben can throw himself against over and over until he can go no further.
>Sheldrake, your Butler: Ben is incapable of fighting against a living manifestation of your realm, who can use the environment to fight him.
>The Witch Hunter: His advanced experience, magical abilities and greater skill in combat will present a challenge that Ben cannot outmanuever.
>Raniya the Djinn-ala: Your warrior genie is uniquely magical, combined with a great amount of martial talent; for him to be defeated by a woman will humble him.
>Alura the Succubus: Ben will have to learn that he is too easily seduced when you send the succubus to be slain by his "sword". As a succubus, she can bring Ben to the limit of his "physical endurance" in other ways than combat.

>Krom, the Demigod: His strength alone will trump Ben; he will be like a wall that Ben can throw himself against over and over until he can go no further.
No contest. The Witch Hunter is busy with other stuff to pull him away as Ben's sparring partner. With Krom, it will be extremely obvious where Ben falls short, compared to the hunter's more subtle methods.

But it won't be training for the likely heavily magic threat we'd be heading into. Blocking and dodging axe swings won't teach you how to defend against magic.

Krom will do. He shall show Ben what it truly means to be a warrior, and your past relations with the demigod shall secure Ben's safety, for why would Krom harm the boy if you sent him?

You'll arrange the deal with Krom. You'll twist it so that the situation in which he found himself with the amazons will be presented as a favor you gave to him, and he will return it by pushing Ben to his limits. Only when Ben realizes what his ceiling is will he be able to break through it, and the experience will prove invaluable.

Next comes Merriam, his beloved sister. She's learned much at the college, but unfortunately her classes have been cut short. Despite this, you were able to turn her into a stronger asset, as well as secure a few more in the form of her friends and rival. But much like her brother, there must be something to be done with her before the time of the ball.

>Merriam will continue to study spells from the abjuration and holy schools, making her into the ultimate defender.
>Merriam is far too lacking in offensive capabilities; she must learn more spells in evocation and elementalism.

Merriam did a commendable job learning spells from the schools of abjuration and holy, but she could learn more. Rather than spread the girl too thinly, you shall instead have her focus on her core talents and continue to sculpt her into the ultimate defensive mage, capable of keeping herself and her allies safe from any attack. So far her experience allowed her to survive the undead attack upon Youngwater; with additional training and spells, she could survive much more.

In addition to her surviving, so to did her little friends. While her three female companions are mages of average stock, it is the male you are particularly interested in. Nathanial Folcey, the one who casts spells with punches and kicks, with an affinity for elementalism. You observed some of his handiwork during one of his training sessions, and he has the potential to be very powerful.

Merriam did well by establishing a connection between him and the meek elf. The girl will be easily controlled, and through her you will be able to manipulate him. The question now lies as to what to do with them both, and where they would be best placed.

The boy is skilled, but could be turned into a master under the proper trainer. Unfortunately you know none in the mortal realm, and having him brought to Aran could potentially backfire. You make a note to look into sending both he and the elf girl--Aurelia--into the far east, to study with the martial arts masters you have read about. Having some contacts that far away couldn't hurt, either.

Next are the two girls, Helen and Sybeth. Both are lovely young mages who recently discovered hidden feelings for each other. How do you know this? Well, you're the one who did it, naturally. Through your scrying orb you detected a moment of potential vulnerability and cast a subtle spell of lewd suggestion upon them both, mostly just to see if you could. It worked like a charm, but they were already mostly there--they justed needed an extra push which you provided. They've made the transition from friends to lovers with all the ease of a fish taking to water, but what to do with them?

It wouldn't be difficult to get them into the Alakaz Academy, due to your history and knowledge of the place. Though you were there in your real identity, you know who to speak with and exploit. After all, you didn't spend all that time at the academy without accumulating a decent amount of dirt.

Next on your list is Alex Shepherd, the divinely-blessed prodigy of holy magic. Recently, Alex's quest to his family tomb brought to light some disturbing revelations, as well as an encounter with Albert. In the end, you left the tomb with the undead knight, who presents some curious implications of his own.

For one, he is completely immune to your usual methods of undead control, and seemingly any other form of magic. He can presumably still be harmed by conventional means, as well as more direct forms of attack, but any attempts at controlling him or altering his appearance fail. Why is this, you wonder? Could it be that some vastly powerful entity created this knight, or is it simply his willpower being too strong so as to create such an aura?

Regardless, the skeleton appears to be an almost storybook noble knight, exceedingly polite but also very skilled and deadly when the time comes for it. He lives his life by a code of chivalry and claims to be on a quest to kill a devil who possesses the souls of the Shepherd family. Alex, being the adorably naive little child that he is, has pledged to help Sir Yorick on his quest. You managed to convince them to keep Sir Yorick in your basement at Cliffbrooke Manor for the time being until you can find a better solution.

>Send Sir Yorick off on his own for his quest.
>To prove himself, send him to infiltrate the undead army and gain intelligence for you.

If you cannot control him, it stands to reason that your enemy cannot either. Sir Yorick will infiltrate the undead army and gain intelligence for you, and he shall do so in order to prove himself to you. It will be a good excuse to find something for him to do while still furthering your overall goals and information.

That leaves Alex. The boy sees you as a mother, and his dedication to you is unwavering. The holy power he wields at his age is unprecedented and he could be a potentially game-changing asset, but you mustn't forget what you have learned. He fled from the capital of Highvale precisely because the head of the First Faith religion, High Priest of the Order of Light, Sebastian Ignus Oberhan the Second, wanted to use him as an asset of his own. Of course, now you have a distinct advantage in that you've made the boy love you, but bringing him back to the capital may prove difficult should this man learn of the boy's return...

Very well, we shall decide upon a new identity for Alex.

But prior to that, another question to settle at this moment: has the time come to reveal our true selves to Alex?

We could do so in order to convince him of the success one finds in disguising oneself.

When you bestow Alex with his new identity, so shall you reveal yourself to him. He has gone long enough without knowing, and trusts you; any longer, and you will be at risk of someone else revealing you to him either intentionally or not, and an unveiling under such circumstances could be harmful to your relationship with him. You will control when and how he learns, and it will be soon.

Next comes Amanda, your marked paladin. After returning to Bridge Town following the excursion into the Shepherd Family Tomb, you didn't have time to collect her for the attack on Youngwater. As one of those you have branded, she will follow your commands and won't even recognize them as such if they are worded cleverly, so you could have her play whatever role you desire.

And given how easily she fell to your and Faye's seduction, she could be convinced to do anything regardless of your brand.

Amanda has history with the paladins of the First Faith, and can get closer to them than anyone else in your party. That is where she will play her part, gathering intel on them much like Sir Yorick will do for the undead.

Alex and Amanda are a cleric and paladin respectively, but that is not your only source of holy power. Bargum the dwarven runepriest has been a commendable ally, keeping watch over Alex and guiding him as a mentor, even teaching him new spells and powers in the form of runic blessings. Though you have been wary of how close you allow the dwarf to get to you, as he is sharp even in his old age, you cannot deny his usefulness.

He'll need a place to be for the final battle, so long as it isn't alongside an elf. That also rules out sending him to Youngwater.

Perhaps considering his eventual retirement wouldn't be a bad thing, and securing a potential line of dwarven warriors is also worth looking into. But how to arrange for such a thing? Who to pair him with?

One cannot rush or force romance, and so you'll wait for an opportunity to present itself, much like with those two girls earlier. With the matter of the dwarf settled in your mind for now, you turn your attention to the other side of the racial spectrum and consider your dear elven friend Kaylessa.

Kay did a fine job keeping Merriam happy during her stay in Youngwater. Though the girl did make new friends, and admits that Kay kept mostly to himself, he watched over her and offered a stable foundation for her to build herself up with. And furthermore, sending him to Youngwater forced him to confront an element you knew of but hadn't yet explored the depths of; his family.

His sister Talindra is a fascinating find. Much like your brother Aldric, she is a swordmage, but a disciple of a more elven tradition known as the witchblades. While the differences between them to the common observer are few, the intricacies of the schools create a gulf as wide as a canyon. She could be a potentially useful asset, if converted properly.

Alicia's sister Supremia will do nicely for the task. You will send her to Youngwater to spy upon the captain, learn her interests and ultimately seduce her. Since you absorbed all of the memories of her sister, you know how you can twist Supremia to the task, and with your brand upon her she won't be able to refuse.

Your thoughts now turn towards Brutus, who has been spending much time at the Cutter Farm, effectively taking over as the primary source of manpower at the mill. The minotaur warrior has found much peace at the farm, feeling productive and helpful as he has lived with the Cutter family. They too have seemingly adopted him into their fold, and now he is one of the family, with the troublesome Todd and Fred looking up to him and his strength, and the matriarch Jan treating him as a close friend and a supportive influence in the time since her husband's passing.

Brutus is strong, and could serve you well in the fight to come in some capacity, but you must never forget that you turned the corpse of his son into an undead abomination when you combined it with Boris. Were he to ever find out, it would be devastating to him and you would become the subject of his wrath. And of course, you could always retire him and keep him at the mill or even take it over.

Brutus has become close with Jan, and soon will become even closer with her. She is still pregnant with her husband's last child, but perhaps in the future Brutus will be able to rebuild his family and his legacy.

But only until you break the curse of infertility upon non-humans. And speaking of non-humans, another minion of yours deserves some consideration: Bruut. The half-orc troublemaker-turned-river pirate has been laying low with his crew of the Azure Serpent for some time, in accordance with your commands, but the supplies are running low and the women they've been playing with are nearly broken. You'll need to find something for them to do.

Intelligence you have gathered from your revenants among the lake men, Ir'as and Nebulia, indicates that the region has gone quiet and the hunt for the river raiders has died off. However, you should also consider sending the raiders further south, towards the capital. There is another potential application of another asset, Urist and his steamboat; you could have Bruut and his men be its crew, which would turn them into one of the most powerful raiding crews in the history of the region.

Alternatively, you could dissolve the crew entirely and find a new task for Bruut to occupy himself with.

Using the Azure Serpent from this point forward is too dangerous. Best to destroy the ship and make use of a new one: specifically, the Fist of Urist. You will send word to Bruut with specific instructions on what he is to do, as well as to Urist with another payment. When Bruut and his crew arrive to man the steam-powered battleship, they will take it south to position it at the capital at its docks. Positioning them there will give you a key advantage in case you need any form of sea-based deterrance or escape.

Next on the list is Amber. A cunning and capable warrior, one who has grown close to your party and has assisted you in several endeavors. She is also your business partner for the Bridge Town chapter of the Mercenary Guild. She is also romantically infatuated with Ben and carrying his child, but to be fair so are several others. But how many more times can you send her into active battle while she is with child?

The question now is what role she is to play in the coming month.

>Amber will remain close, and travel with your party to the capital when the time is right
>Amber will be sent to Bridge Town and begin recruiting a force of mercenaries for the upcoming battle

You decide that Amber will be sent to recruit a large number of mercenaries from the guild hall in Bridge Town. With her reputation, experience and influence, she'll be able to amass a suitable force that you can send to the capital or anywhere else when the time is right. If need be, she can use Redford Keep as a temporary home for herself and the mercenaries she plans to recruit.

Krom. The name sends shivers up and down your spine. You sent him away both for his own protection and as a means to keep him occupied until you were prepared for his use. His demigod-granted strength and resilience makes him an invaluable asset, but what to have him do before the final confrontation? You already plan on having him train Ben, but that won't take much more than a day, you imagine.

Krom has more than enough resources and manpower now to lead his personal vendetta against Albert and his undead legions. This could be the very distraction needed to keep the undead from interfering with any of your future plans. Firstly, however, they will need to go through the swamp, and that means dealing with the green and black dragons. You'll oversee that situation and how best to take advantage of it when the time comes.

Finally, you have Jenna, the kind and cheerful druid. While you consider her a teacher as well, she is also a lover and one of Ben's as well. When last you checked in with her, she was still living in her cave not far from Redford Keep.

In the midst of your planning, a servitor enters the room to deliver a message. It is hastily-scrawled and with terrible handwriting, and contains only two words: "Egg Hatchen"

"Xerro," you say aloud, and immediately proceed to the incubation chamber, where the kobold is running about very excitedly.

The first of the green dragon's eggs has hatched, and it presents a most curious mystery. The creature born appears to be a fully-fledged dragon, with four limbs, a tail, and two wings, which seems to indicate pure parentage as opposed to the other dragonspawn you have encountered from her brood. What is even more perplexing is that this dragon appears to be a mixed breed after all: that of two different colors, green and black.

"I thought the black dragon and the green dragon hated each other," you muse, looking at the creature making its way out of the egg before you. "Perhaps it is a very complicated relationship..."

The small whelp has black and green scales and bright eyes. It isn't much smaller than Xerro himself.

"This could be useful," you think with a smile. "But right now, it is merely an infant... dragons take quite some time to grow."

>The dragon will grow naturally, with no alterations

The remainder of the eggs are hatching and stock is taken. With the exception of the green-black hybrid, all of them are dragonspawn to some degree, whose parentage is easy to discern, and in some cases you have glimpsed adult versions of.

It will not be difficult to convert the egg hatchery into a nursery for them, but eventually different conditions will be required to properly fascilitate their growth and use. You turn to consider Xerro.

You decide that from this point on, Xerro and Usai will work together to rear the greenspawn. Summoning Sheldrake to your side, you ask him how goes the process of altering Aran's landscape, given that in the future such creatures will need space and resources. He informs you that it is coming along nicely, especially given the recent underground expansion. You desire to see it for yourself.

The giant ant queen has created a flourishing colony of giant ants beneath Aran. A massive network of tunnels is being created by them, and they have adapted to feed upon raw shadow energy after the queen was sustained upon it. The new generation she has birthed is sleek and dark in color.

"How do we know they will not rise up to feast upon the people?" you ask Sheldrake as you tour the tunnels.

"It seems that those who have been touched by Aran's essence have a degree of control over them," he explains. "Your shades, for example, can command them with an almost telepathic means of mutual understanding."

"And the shadow demons?"

"Apparently the ants find them to be quite tasty."

"Excellent."

"I want them prepared for war. Tell Vorkath to add these ants to my royal guard, and to start training a cavalry unit of mounted shades. I can think of fewer things that will frighten an enemy more than shadow warriors riding upon giant black ants..."

Next, you meet with the leaders of the goblin community: your revenant Jinxy, and the three bumbling fools Toldy, Moldy and Scoldy.

It seems the goblin population is having trouble breeding. Much like the normal populace of Aran for many generations, birthrate percentages have been declining. It is more noticeable in a fast-breeding species like the goblins than it is for, say, humans. Despite your encouragement and advocacy of fertility rituals and healthy children, the goblins seem to be having none of it.

>We need some kind of fertility/virility potion put into mass production

Turning towards Isseal, who was managing the shadow pool in your abscence, you inquire of her, "What is the true missing element that will allow us to refine the shadow essence?"

"I have closely studied the texts of the prior witch queen who intended to use it. What is essentially missing is a filter through which the positive and negative aspects of the shadow essence are separated."

"I thought it was all negative energy."

"I only mean to speak in simple terms; what you seek are the 'positive' aspects of the negative essence, or perhaps the 'useful' or 'advantageous' qualities it possesses. What you desire is to submerge a subject and have them emerge changed and adapted to Aran without any loss in usefulness; in fact, you desire a boost to their abilities through it as well. But shadow energy is difficult to work with, as it has several qualities that make it inherently damaging to the user, notably that it seeks to do the same to them: sucking out their 'positive' qualities while replacing them with its own negative qualities, much like how air escapes a jar when you fill it with liquid."

You fold your arms and cup your chin. "You mentioned a filter... what manner of filter?"

"Simply put, a living one," she explains. "Someone or something to syphon all of the harmful qualities of the essence, thus allowing us to refine it into the state you would seek. It could be a powerful being, ideally an immortal of some sort, who could withstand constant exposure to the shadow essence without dying. Otherwise we'll need to continually replace hosts."

"And this cannot be done mechanically?"

"This isn't oil, my queen. This is dark magic, and if you desire to benefit from it then someone must pay the price in pain and torment from exposure to it. But access to a refined product of shadowstuff could be the key to taking all of your forces and turning them into truly deadly weapons of darkness."

>If this is the cost, then I won't consider it at this time.
>Perhaps we could entrap an angel somehow and force them to undergo the procedure
>We will begin using a series of mortal victims from my populace as a filter

"We have some broken women," you mutter. "Likely a few useless men as well. Round them up and use them."

"It shall be as you command, your majesty."

The next asset you wish to oversee are the ogres. After tricking them into being captured in Aran, Gezug had the males emasculated and took over as the prime alpha. While this may have seemed like a good idea at the time, being born out of a dimwitted intellect more concerned with immediate results rather than long-term planning, the ogres are facing the same problem as the goblins and the enshrouded; they're simply not breeding fast enough. At least you have more goblins than ogres, of which you have about thirty, but you cannot deny that ogres are vastly more powerful than goblins.

Not much to be done with them until you have refined the essence, and so you wait.

It takes about a day for the raw material to be filtered through the chosen victims. You spare yourself the sight of the wretches as you look upon the product that is produced. It is thinner than before, more like black water now, no longer churning or bubbling on its own so it has a perfectly flat surface when undisturbed.

You kneel alongside it and look into its ebony surface, looking at your reflection. "So this is the refined essence?"

"Yes, your majesty. It should allow for absolutely none of the negative qualities previously associated with unrefined material: all who enter should be made into a more powerful version of themselves, adapted to Aran and the power of shadow."

"Including myself?"

"If you wish it. But be aware that based on our calculations, you only have enough refined material for seventy individuals. That is all we were able to achieve with the victims before they were completely corrupted and wasted away."

"I see..."

Sending for a human subject, you command them to fully submerge themselves in the pool. The young man does so, vanishing beneath its surface. For several moments he does not emerge, leading you to think that perhaps it swallowed him, but then he suddenly does when he crawls out of the pool.

He has been changed into a shade, with grey skin and dark hair, along with glowing blue eyes.

"This is not an entirely unforeseen outcome," the Red One explains. "Shades have always been produced through a ritual that produces a similar effect to the refined essence."

"Then why don't we simply use that ritual for all of my assets?"

Sheldrake points out, "It takes time and resources of its own. This was an instant transformation."

The Red One continues, "Furthermore, the shade ritual is only for humans and exceptionally-near human beings. Other races turn into other things when exposed to the essence."

You inspect the new shade from top to bottom. He has been enhanced from his prior form, given powers that all shades wield. Sure enough, the process was fast and worked wonderfully, even at the cost it required.

"The ends justify the means," you mutter to yourself. "We have enough uses in this pool for sixty-nine more, yes?" They nod. "Then let me decide what to use it with..."

Deciding to test the results per species, you summon an ogre and a goblin and send them into the pool one after another. The results are fascinating, to say the least.

In the ogre's case, what emerged was a sleeker, dark-skinned creature with bright hair and claws. Faster and stronger than the normal ogre, it was now an oni, and with its transformation came the largest difference of all: its intellect was raised significantly.

A similar situation happened with the goblin, resulting in the first of what you have been trying to achieve: a shadoblin. Grey-skinned, intelligent and wicked, perfectly suited and adapted for survival in the realm of Aran. Both it and the oni, like your shades, are able to influence lesser creatures of shadow without verbal commands.

Perhaps the biggest change in both of them was their increase in intellectual capacity, greater memory and more control over their baser instincts. With this increase in intelligence comes the ability to cast spells, once they have been properly trained.

67 uses of the pool remain.

You convert the remaining ogres into oni, all thirty of them, including Gezug, who is now a far cry from what he once was. He towers over the other oni, perhaps due to the special place he holds among them, and is now able to speak in complete sentences. They recognize that you have bestowed this gift upon them and swear fealty to you, and depart the citadel with your blessing, content that now they can live a new life here in Aran.

With all thirty of them converted, that leaves thirty-eight uses of the shadow material left, just enough to convert a decent chunk of the goblins.

As the thirty-seventh departs the pool, leaving only enough material left for one more dip, you consider if it is wise to use this last amount on a goblin.

You decide to save this last amount of refined essence; you have it collected in placed safely within a container for future use.

The next asset you consider are the wild elves within Wineleah that you once saved: Arradon, Mormaraleth, Jinarra and Torethel. Decent scouts and warriors who owe you their lives for warning them of a coming battle, you have kept your distance from them but the time has come to give them greater instructions.

They shall assist in the attack upon Binulia.

Let's turn our attention to the various corpses we have lined up in storage.

Corpses in Aran:
Giant Greenspawn Snake
Greenspawn Wyvern
Amazon
Barbarian Woman
Green Elf
Harpy
Battlemage
Night Elf
Satyr
Serpent Woman
Western Human Woman

These corpses have been preserved through a combination of magic and ideal conditions until you have found use for them. What better time than now?

The flesh pits, once activated, will allow for the cloning, hybridization and production of creatures. As the flesh pits have dried, they will need fresh genetic material, which we can provide with our corpses or a series of sacrifices. Blood is the key ingredient, and the wider genetic pool of material that is entered into the flesh pits, the more potential elements exist to draw from when creating a new creature or species.

For example, if one were to desire to clone an army of amazons, one would only introduce the amazon corpse into the pit, along with enough blood, food and flesh needed to create a clone. If one were to introduce harpies to the formula, we would create a hybrid creature between the amazon stock and the harpy stock, provided we continually feed the pits the important ingredients of life (which can be done by simply dumping in food down into the pit, much like with a normal human in pregnancy).

The third use for the pit, other than cloning and hybridization, is genetic modification. A subject can enter into a pit and have its flesh altered significantly or in minor ways; for example, the addition or removal of scales, or extra limbs, or wings, etc. Genetic material of the desired modification must be present in the pit, and this process must be carefully monitored to ensure that it grows properly. This process is more involved and delicate than cloning or crossbreeding.

We currently have three flesh pits, each of which that can be used for production of units. By careful introduction and monitoring of what we introduce to each, we can grow specific breeds or copies in each one. Another important thing to consider is how much material we have available per individual subject. A single corpse of a unique species, such as a serpent woman, can only be used so many times before the material becomes too diluted with other flesh and the traits of that corpse no longer manifest.

Current Stock Species:
>Human
>Goblin
>Shadoblin
>Oni
>Shadar-kai
>Centaur
>Kenku
>Greenspawn
>Shadow Ant

Unique Corpses (Limited Uses):
>Corpses in Aran:
>Amazon
>Green Elf
>Harpy
>Night Elf
>Satyr
>Serpent Woman

So, what do we want to dedicate the three flesh pits towards? For example, we could have one continually producing humans, one producing a hybrid race, and another focused on genetic modification.

The floor is open to suggestions.

It would likely result in a hybrid race of four-legged reptillian centaur-like beings; the closest analogy would be the drakkoth species, or warcraft-style dragonspawn. Dracotaurs, if you will. Pic related, top

sounds good. Have another pit spawining humans.
>>
>>3056194
We can rinse and reuse the pits right?
What if, for starters, we just make ~10-20 clones from each corpse to keep as a stock population?
That way if we mix and match and end up with something we don't like we'd still have pure samples to fall back on.
>>
>>3056290
Primarily the problem arises that you can only create so many clones from one body before you run out of prime genetic material. These clones are not "perfect" copies, they use other genetic material we provide, such as human bodies as substitute building blocks. Even if the end result of the first batch of clones are nearly perfect, let's say 95%, and achieve all the desired results (being as strong or fast as the original or replicating its traits perfectly), a second batch created from a clone would degrade to a slightly more noticable degree, such as only being 85% perfect, then perhaps only 70%, then 50%, and so on in that fashion, unless we continually supplied fresh genetic material of a pure sample.

That's essentially how it breaks down.

We have, of course, three primary goals:

>Preparing for the confrontation with Mordrax
>Dealing with the undead army by assisting Krom
>Attacking the border of Binulia

The bulk of our fighting force consists of the centaurs, shadar-kai and kenku, which we will focus on one at a time.

Firstly, the centaurs: highly mobile and very brutal. How do we want to position them?

>They will assist in the attack on Binulia with the northmen and the wild elf scouts

Let us consider now our shadar-kai: good infiltrators, able to make excellent use of shadows, and in a way a king of shock trooper due to how they fight with unorthodox weaponry and make extensive use of body piercings and constricting clothing in order to heighten their physical sensation.

And finally, let us consider our kenku monks and assassins. Similar to your shadar-kai, they are good infiltrators, but are more versatile in their methods, able to employ their unique size and avian traits to both infiltration and combat. Though short, they are deadly, and able to make use of their natural physiology to great effect with their martial arts training, along with their deadly weaponry. Veyr professional and only work for gems.

What task will they be best suited towards?

Holding aloft your hand over the pool, you decide to scry upon your father. The image in the reflection shifts to that of the capital, but not the royal palace. Rather, it focuses on a sole carriage, travelling down a seldom-busy street.

Your eyes narrow and you command it to view further, revealing your father within the dim interior, alone. Within his lap is a small chest, more of a jewelry box, and his stern expression is as though set in stone as he silently waits out the ride. He isn't dressed as he usually is, wearing dark robes with a hood, and that coupled with the strange circumstances that you find him in leads you to believe he is on an errand of some secrecy. The small chest in particular is clutched very tightly in his hands.

Based on his overall forward progress and the direction of travel, he appears to be heading towards the docks of the capital. You don't know whether he is meeting someone there or boarding a ship, but you could potentially position members of your cult and a few shadar-kai there.

Commanding your minions to create a teleportation circle in a hidden spot, you continue to observe your father as the carriage stops and he exits with his hood drawn up over his head. Even disguised as he is, he cuts an imposting figure, ensuring that dock workers and gutter trash get out of his way.

You notice something about a particular ship that he passes. Your eyes widen as the image of the ship's name comes into view: the Queen's Avarice, captained by Jean Lamont Eristan, whom you met and briefly flirted with in Bridge Town some time ago. This is not the ship your father is heading towards, but it is nearby.

Adopting your disguise as Mary and a cloak of your own, you travel to the capital. You haven't been here in so long, you are almost overwhelmed with nostalgia--even if it is the docks which smell of the sea. You hurry your way to Captain Eristan's ship and attempt to board it, but are stopped by two burly dockhands.

"Hold it! Where do you think you're going, girly?"

"Nobody just strolls onto the Queen's Avarice," the other says, before looking you up and down. "Though, I think we can arrange it..."

A voice from the boarding ramp causes them both to jump. "I doubt she came here for your company, Tojek." All three of you look up to see the handsome swashbuckler Captain Eristan, who fixes you with a winning smile. "Besides, if memeory serves me well, and it always does, this young lady is overdue for a personal tour."

You smile and push past them, stepping onto the ramp and taking his offered hand. "Captain."

"Mary," he says, leaning down to kiss the back of your hand. "I'd never forget a face as beautiful as yours."

"Flattery will get you everywhere," you say as he takes you up onto his ship.

"I certainly hope so. But I've heard word of a certain Mary rescuing a princess from a moon. Could it truly be that you and that young boy I had dinner with in the mayor's home did such a thing?"

"It is all true."

"There's more to you than meets the eye, Mary." He faces you fully and lifts your chin with one hand. "I always have had a knack for finding hidden treasures."

"But it isn't every day that a treasure like myself walks onto your ship," you say in a teasing tone. Your eyes dart over to the vessel your father boarded. "Tell me what you know about that ship."

He looks over. "I know that ship, but not the people on it. I've encountered it before, never in battle but in port. Another vessel in the same line of business."

"Smuggling?"

He puts a finger to his lips. "Not so loud, my dear. Everyone who sails does what they need to survive. But everyone on that ship over there is entirely new; none of the previous crew remain." You and he walk across the deck to the railing, looking out over the harbor. "In fact, it seems like they're getting ready to shove off..."

Your eyes narrow as you consider what to do with that vessel.

You give him a wink of your own as you transform into a raven and make for the other vessel. With whatever distraction his crew will provide, you should have plenty of time to spy on father.

You land upon a porthole in the side of the vessel and hop within, making for the hidden reaches of the ship. Within, you discover your father talking to another man, a sleek-looking businessman who doesn't seem to belong on a ship like this. You hide behind some boxes and listen.

"This is to be my payment," your father says, holding out the chest. The man takes it and peeks inside just for a moment. From your point of view, you are unable to see what it is.

"Not bad," he says. "We go back a long ways, so that's why I'm listening, but I don't want the wrong kind of attention."

"You won't get it."

"You wanna cue me in on what this is really all about?"

"Answering your questions isn't part of my payment."

The man raises his eyebrows. "Yeah, alright. Don't worry about it. We'll see the 'package' is delivered. When are you going to drop him off?"

Your avian head perks up. 'Him?'

"One week from now. Make the necessary arrangements on your end; I'll do the same."

The man smirks. "I wouldn't worry so much. I mean, nobody's going to look for the brat, right?"

You lower your head. 'Could they be referring to... Edgar?'

"Speak no more of this," your father cautions. "Ears are everywhere."

"Oh, please, my ship is enchanted. Nobody can listen in. You're far too nervous."

At that moment, they hear the sounds of a scuffle outside. They both go to one of the portholes to look out; it seems Captain Eristan and his men are getting into an argument with the ship over the use of a certain dock, and things are escalating. At least two men are already in a fistfight.

"Damn," the stranger says. "You should probably--"

Imon is already moving for the exit.

Finding a dark corner of the ship, you transform back into your humanoid form and withdraw your orb. Through it, you scry upon Edgar's current location.

It appears he is at a play with his father and mother. They have a box which they are sharing with several others, all of whom are enjoying the show. From the noise, you can gather that it is a musical, perhaps some manner of opera. Despite his current situation, he appears to be having a good time, though his parents look bored.

The man your father was speaking to gets up and quickly makes for the exit, which will take him above deck.

You send your commands to Aran for Xiax'zas and a group of shadar-kai to ambush your brother Aldric and kidnap Edgar.

Taking flight as a bird, you soar across the city until you find your father's carriage, making haste through darkened paths. The carriage is pulled by a pair of black steeds and the driver is nondescript, but there is no mistaking it: your father is inside. He's still taking the long way home, to avoid normal detection, but you are onto him. Perched upon a nearby rooftop, you pick the perfect street for your ambush: dark, quiet and not a soul in sight.

'Time for another heartfelt family reunion,' you think with a smile.

Leaping down and assuming your air elemental form to guide your fall, you crash through the side of the carriage with a forceful push, ready to confront your father.

What you discover is instead an empty carriage.

>>3058628

In the brief few seconds it takes you to consider the possibilities, such as this being a decoy, you realize that this is a trap. The carriage suddenly lurches and twists, falling onto its side. Thankfully, you use a gust of wind to push yourself out of the side you came in from, flying up into the air.

The horses have vanished, magically banished back to their place of origin. The carriage itself falls onto its side and skids along the road, crashing into a nearby wall.

>>3058633

As you attempt to get your bearings, a large figure is glimpsed on a rooftop above you. Still wearing his black cloak, he raises a gloved hand and casts a wall of force that rapidly moves towards you. You manage to bring up both of your hands and create a shield, but you are still pushed to the ground by the wall and held there as you push against it.

>>3058639
>>3058651

You blink and the figure above is gone. Now, he is behind you, and he curls his hand into a fist. He rocks it into your chest, knocking the wind out of your lungs with a punch backed by arcane force. Spit flies out of your mouth as you let go of the shield spell, causing the wall of force to push you back against a nearby wall and slam you into it.

Sliding down onto your knees, you fall forwards as you gasp for breath. Your lungs feel as though they are on fire and your ears are ringing lightly.

>Health: 70%

You hear heavy footsteps as your father approaches. He stops a few feet away, towering over you in his cloaked visage.

His voice cuts through the ringing like a knife. "Sirena."

Amidst your desperate gasping, you manage to choke out a word: "How?"

He kneels down, and simply replies, "I am your father, foolish girl." He says nothing more and prepares to deliver another punch, the arcane power of which you don't doubt could cave in a human's skull.

You open your mouth, but words do not come out. Seeing the punch coming, you close your eyes and attempt to cast your Armor of Aran, a spell-like ability, but before you can focus the shadow power needed the punch hits you. What feels like a ton of force behind the power of that impact hits the back of your head, and for a moment everything is white.

>Health: 33%

Slowly, your eyes open. You're bleeding, that much you know from the pool on the ground. You try to lift yourself up, but to no avail--your arms simply fail you. He must have struck you in the head, because your vision and hearing are wavering. It feels like everything is going out of focus, then becoming sharp, then blurry again.

You manage to roll over and look up to see him standing over you. Your father removes his hood and stares down at you with cold, dispassionate eyes, giving you the look that one gives an animal they must slaughter. There is no love, no attachment, no real emotion at all within his gaze, but there is judgment. This is a burden for him, a labor, but one he has no qualms in performing.

He reaches down towards you with his large hand, rapidly eclipsing most of your vision.

>>3058687

Your mind races as you think to find some kind of escape, but the only spell that comes out is one of slow. You try to crawl away, even as he casts a spell of haste upon himself to counter the effects of your spell.

He once more steps over you, leans down and picks you up by your hair, pulling on it. The pain this causes is immense and you let out a pathetic mewl. You can hear his knuckles cracking as he curls his hand and readies another arcane force-backed punch.

His deep, stern voice echoes through your ears as he leans down to speak. "Your pain will end now."

Your nails scratch along the ground, some of them breaking as you try to crawl away.

Gritting your teeth, you look up at the night sky and let out a cry. Both of your hands ignite with blue flame as you thrust them upwards, shoving them towards your father's face. The blackfire bolt you cast burns through his magical defenses and manages to spread across his skin, and he lets out a shout of his own that echoes throughout the area. You grab his hands gripping your hair and bestow a curse upon him, one that reduces his attack, but the gesture is purely spiteful at this point.

With his head aflame, he shoves you down onto the ground, slamming your face against the cobblestone. Any spells you would have liked to cast at this point aren't going to happen. Again and again he lifts you up and slams you down, until your vision goes black and you hear a sickening cracking noise, accompanied by more blood pooling beneath your head.

Then, all is silent and dark. You feel yourself drifting in an empty void, naked and vulnerable, unable to interract with anything. There is no sensation, no heat or cold--nothing. Your thoughts stretch out as far as the seemingly infinite abyss around you, and you wonder how it all came to this.

Somewhere in that blackness, something stirs, drawn towards your soul. Shapeless and nameless, it reaches towards you with tendrils that extend into the great formless mass that is its body and home. It has been waiting for you...

That Which Never Sleeps...

But before it can wrap you up and trap you in its eternal grip, you are torn from this dark place, ripped out of the shadows and brought back into the light. Suddenly your body is bombarded with sensation, and your eyes open wide as you gasp, filling your lungs with the air of Aran.

You look at your hands, seeing the bright green flesh before your disbelieving eyes. Your heart races in your chest, your eyes dart around and your brain pounds with the force of the thoughts flying through it. Before you can put together a coherent thought or a sentence, a figure appears in your view and you look up at her, realizing that you are lying on some kind of slab.

Xiax'zas, the lich. She stares down at you. "Welcome back, my queen."

Before you can reply to her, Faye jumps up onto the slab and straddles your naked, green form. "You're alive! It worked! It really worked!"

You close your eyes and lie your head back. "Oh, good. I'm still green."

"Even greener than before, I think," Faye says, taking your hand in hers. "The ritual was a complete success. Your essence was drawn back to Aran, and we grew this new body for you, just as good as the old one." Her smile now fades and she gives you rare serious look. "Sirena... how could you do that? Just go out on your own and try to fight your father?"

"I thought I would have the drop on him."

Faye pouts. "Well, I guess he had the drop on you instead."

You sit up and she scoots back, letting you dangle your legs over the side of the slab upon which you were resurrected. "I just don't understand it... he never gave any indication while I was following him that he knew about it. How could he have just known?"

Xiax'zas walks around the table. "With all due respect, your highness, I believe this entire situation was something of a trap."

"Meaning?"

"When I took the shadar-kai to ambush your brother and his family, he seemed almost waiting for us to appear. He cut down every minion. He was prepared, even though he did not look it."

"Perhaps... Perhaps my family thought I would come for them instead of the other way around," you muse. "Or perhaps they had some means of detecting my presence that I was not aware of. But it wasn't scrying, I would have felt it, I have a resistance to it..."

You look up at the lich. "What about Edgar? Did you capture him?"

"No, my queen." She bows her head. "I have failed you."

You step off of the slab and conjure a set of black robes with your darkweave spell. "Rise," you command. "I wish to see my body."

Returning to the divining pool, you look upon your ruined form being brought before Mordrax, who has been summoned to the personal quarters of your family at the royal palace. He laughs, an echoing noise that sickens you to the very pit of your stomach.

He leans down over your body and reaches for something. Your eyes narrow as he withdraws his coin from your form, and you suddenly realize you no longer have it. 'Of course... it was on my old body...'

Your attention is focused solely upon Mordrax as he commands two of his robed servants to bring the corpse back to his personal chambers. The remainder of your corpse's personal belongings are left behind with your family. When asked by your father what he intends to do with your actual body, he replies, "Whatever I desire."

You feel your stomach knotting again as you grow angrier than you ever have before, picturing all of the sick and twisted things he could do to your body. Faye senses it, and draws near to put a steadying hand on your shoulder. In the back, Sheldrake and Xiax'zas stand silently alongside the Red One.

Within the image, your father speaks to Mordrax. You can see that his face is burnt and scarred, the only consolation of the evening. "I did as you asked. She is dead. I want to know that you will uphold your word."

Your former master places his hand on your father's shoulder, almost mirroring the supportive gesture that Faye is doing now. "Fret not, Imon. The time is drawing near. Your family's place in my empire is secure."

Imon says nothing further. He merely bows his head, and Mordrax leaves with your corpse.

"I'll have his head," you mutters. "Both of them... All of them! My entire family! I'll see the capital burnt to the ground with them buried in the ashes if that is what it takes!"

In a rare role reversal, Faye attempts to talk some sense into you and calm you down. "Sirena, we still have time. We can prepare."

You face her fully and stare into her bright green eyes. "He took my body. My body! My perfect, flawless form is his PLAYTHING! And father..." You're practically frothing with rage. "I wasn't strong enough. Despite all I've done, no matter how far I've come, he still tossed me about like a ragdoll!"

She is about to say something more, but you storm off and continue ranting. "This is a disgrace, an insult of the highest order... I refuse to be stand in the face of this... this... humiliation!" Turning towards your twin, you nearly scream. "Sirena Le Doux is dead! They think me dead! AS IF THEY COULD! They tried once before, and they may have a body now, but if they dare think that I can be slain by them, they're WRONG!"

Your fists clenched tightly shake as you raise them up. Your head throbs and your breaths come in short bursts. "For too long I have held myself back with pleasures of the flesh and feeding my every whim... I told myself that everything I did was dedicating myself to revenge, but that was a lie. I let myself grow content... weak... I... I..."

Faye tilts her head. "Sirena...?"

You meet her gaze once more and lower your arms. Through gritted teeth and controlled rage, you mutter, "I need... more... power!"

She slowly raises her hand. "I understand, but you must calm yourself. We need to focus."

You close your eyes as she draws near. It seems so bizarre to be in a situation where Faye is your voice of reason, but perhaps this entire situation has taken you both to places you never knew you could go. For you it was death, and for her it was potentially losing you, which would be akin to losing a piece of herself. She draws you into a hug, holding you tightly.

"We will destroy them," she whispers into your ear. "For ever daring to tear us apart."

Slowly, your hands find the small of her back. "Yes... Everything we said that night we met will come true. I tried doing it alone..."

"But you aren't," Faye whispers. "You have me, and I have you." You both pull back and lean towards each other, touching foreheads. "The Witch Queens..." she says with a smile.
>>
>>3058830

You lean back. Slowly, you feel your rage subside and give way to your usual calm and rational practicality. “Yes… Yes, of course. This was just a setback, and I have had those before, but now I have so many more resources at my disposal…”

Faye beams. “Yes, and now they think you are dead! Imagine all the ways we could twist this to our use!”

A smile slowly grows on your face to match her own. “Of course… This is nothing compared to the setbacks I have faced before. They think me dead, beaten… They’ll be unprepared, unknowing…”

You look out at all of the others. “Things will be different next time. We still have time for me to grow even stronger…”

Sheldrake steps forward. “What is it you command, my queens?”

"I lost my orb... I require a new implement. And more artifacts. I am going to research within the Lost Library, and I am not to be disturbed."

Faye frowns. "What about me?"

You pause at the door. "Well, obviously you can. What about the summoning?"

"The document is still being reviewed."

"Well, then carry on," you tell her. "Find a way for us to get more powerful. And no pacts!"

You leave them and travel straight to the library. Even though you have calmed down, you are still furious. To think that after all you have done and accomplished you are still so easily dispatched...

'Well, not next time,' you think. 'Next time I go in with all of my wards and armor spells, and I'll have allies and minions on my side, engaging them on my terms. What a miserable failure of an evening...' You stop in the hallway, clenching and unclenching your hands. 'Calm yourself... Focus that anger into purpose. You must become more powerful, otherwise Mordrax will make a mockery of you again, only this time it will be the real you.'

You enter the library and look upon the shelves and shelves of ancient texts, some gathered from other realms, some purposefully collected by Witch Queens of old.

'I have less than a month to find the keys I need to success,' you think. 'This was a wakeup call. I'm still not powerful enough to achieve my goals. I need spells, weapons, rituals...' You walk along a shelf and lightly run your fingers across several bindings. 'But where to begin?'

You puzzle through some texts, eventually finding one about the human and elf conflict. It contains a foreword that sets up some historical context; namely that the dragons were the first beings, but the dragons of today are nothing like what they once were. Beings of elemental force, these primordial titans crafted the worlds and the realms, infinite in number and they wielded power unlike anything imaginable, for reality was subject to their whim. It was they who forged the earth, and upon it deposited their lesser kin, the ancient ancestors of all things draconic. Eventually the great dragons left the universes they had created behind, for their work was done, and some believe they are still creating new realities to this day, continuing the cycle of eternal creation.

The elves rose up after the dragons, discovering the use of magic. They focused on one particular aspect of it, relating to the cycles of the moon, worshipping the moon and eventually travelling to it. This allowed humanity to rise to prominence until the elves returned and war was made. All of this you already know, for you have read it and glimpsed it in the mind of your ancestor the moon elf, but there is one particular page here that draws your interest.

Legend speaks of the first human to learn the power of magic from captured elves. Humans, crafty as they are, quickly adapted it into their arsenal, for legions of mages were taught by this one individual, known only as the Demiurge. It is said that he gave himself that title for he intended on ruling all of humanity once the war was done.

However, he was slain by a human lord, the one who led mankind to victory against the moon elves and their forces. All of the Demiurge's remains were locked away along with his possessions, so that they could never threaten the world again. The human lord, father of the very first half-elf by way of your ancestor, had his tomb constructed over the Demiurge, out of a desire to ensure that such power never rose from its grave.

Pouring through several books, summoning servitors to find others with any mention of the Demiurge and his conflict with the ancient human lord, you compile every last bit of knowledge you can upon the location of this ancient tomb. A small stack of books alongside you, cross-referenced and bull of bookmarks, sits next to a pile of papers you have been scrawling upon.

After more than two hours of searching, you have it, or at least a close approximation: the location of the tomb of both the ancient human lord, and beneath it, the resting place of the Demiurge. As you draw a series of circles on the map of likely locations, all within only a few miles of each other in uninhabited lands to the northwest, Faye enters the library.

"Sirena?"

You look up from your many notes. "Yes? What is it?"

"I got back in touch with Utai the Three-Eyed. He has delivered us a new contract with more favorable terms, and I've sent it off to Angelo."

"Great," you say, brushing it aside. "I'm sorry, I'm not really in the mood for realm management... Isseal can handle such things."

Faye shrugs. "Found anything interesting?"

"A potential treasure trove of knowledge," you say. "Several expeditions in recorded history have attempted to find the tomb of the Demiurge, but all of them failed. Piecing all of this information together might just show us its true location; all we need to do is find it."

"What's inside?"

"Hopefully, ancient knowledge and power. The tomb is more than ten-thousand years old, but artifacts like this don't just up and vanish or run out of power. After all, the book containing the Moon Elf didn't."

"I was thinking about her," Faye says, sitting next to you. "Why don't we try draining her? Or at the very least, get some human sacrifices going? We've got plenty of people in Aran who'd be willing to die for our glory. And I was thinking about the shadow demons, too--not making a pact with them, but if we could capture them and harness their power, drain it from them with a ritual, and infuse it into ourselves..."

"I already have one shadow entity's power within me, I don't need more."

"Well, it doesn't have to be within us. We could infuse their power into a staff or something. I'm just spit balling ideas, Sirena. I know how important this is to us, and thinking up ways to boost our power."

You sit back. "I know. As frustrated as I am with my lack of strength, I still hesitate to take the quicker and easier paths..."
>>
>>3059558

"So, what are you thinking?"

"Either I focus on one line of power and study it intensely, ensuring it has no negative consequences while maximizing its effectiveness, or I pursue numerous short-term power-boosting options that could offer a diversity of benefits but could carry potential risks."

"But risk is part of the fun!" she says. "This is the most important thing in your life, in our lives! Revenge! The chance to take it all from the one you hate! And then later on, we can kill the one I hate, after we're even stronger!" She crawls closer to you. "You hold yourself back, Sirena. Why stick your toe into the water when you can dive into the deep end?"

"Tempting," you say with a wry smile, but you cannot deny that she has a point. You look down at your notes and wonder. Though the quicker paths to power are tempting, you are not exactly pressed for time, and could study one or two more safely until you must confront your former master. By the same virtue, you could spend that same amount of time pursuing a larger number of short-term power boosts and deal with whatever the consequences may be after ending Mordrax's life. And then there is the path you have spent considerable time on, which is creating an external network of allies, minions and resources; while building up others doesn't make you personally more powerful, it has had distinct advantages and uses.

Decisions, decisions...

>Focus on one route to gaining power, maximizing its potential while eliminating all possible risks or downsides
>Pursue numerous paths to power, focusing purely on the results rather than the consequences and deal with those later
>Somewhere in the middle: Focus on one primary route to power, with one or two well-studied power boosts with minimal risk

Very well. Let us now vote on what our primary path to power we want to focus on will be: this will be the path we get the most out of, studying it intensely so as to maximize our gain and minimize the risk.

>Shadow Power: Increasing the dark power within us through various means, such as refined shadow essence and shadow demon power siphoning
>Moon Elf Power: Drawing power from our ancestor, learning more of her spells, focusing on the elven aspect of our heritage and controlling her
>Ancient Power: Searching for lost knowledge and lore, that of the ancient human empire and the very first human mage, the Demiurge, and his demise
>Elemental Power: Improving our control over the elements by working with Faye, studying the strengths of the primordial beings and strengthening our elemental transformation
>Holy Power: Increasing the power we get from our worship by emboldening our cults, human sacrifices, and tribute from your subjects
>Martial Power: Physically improving our body, strengthening ourselves by increasing our athleticism, acrobatics and martial art capability
>Allied Power: This route would focus on us making those around us stronger, making our allies and minions more powerful, relying upon them to do the dirty work

It's very evenly split down the middle.

Narratively, both have very similar origins, as they both deal with an ancient power from the human-elf war. Sirena is, of course, a descendent of both bloodlines.

Both are very different but Sirena could represent a merging of both; in effect, I could write both listed paths as one natural merging of the two competing philosophies from the ancient world.

I'd say that it's very clearly Elemental and Holy, with shadow in a close second, but I'll call it for those two.

Since the Ancient/Moon Elf path will be the primary focus, let's decide what aspects of our side paths we'd like to focus on.

For example, let's vote on how we gain power from Holy:

>Tribute from our cult leaders in the form of rituals, artifacts, powers
>Human sacrifice which we will harness energy from
>Build a shrine to focus prayers into energy that empowers you
>A little of all of the above

Now, let's decide on our Elementalism focus.

>Double down on wind and air-related abilities, mastering your wind form
>Focus on a mixture between air, fire and lightning, three elements we have spells in already
>Learn elemental summoning from Faye
>Unlock more elemental-based transformations

As you lay out your plan with Faye, she nods along, listening closely. When you are finished explaining, she claps her hands together and says, "That sounds great! I'm so excited! I can't believe we're so close to achieving our revenge!"

"Half of our revenge," you point out. "Remember what you said: after we take out Mordrax, we need to set our sights on the mirror dimension so we can take revenge on your former master."

Faye dismissively waves her hand. "Oh, he's not going anywhere."

You give her a strange look. "You do want to go home, don't you?"

She shrugs. "What's home? Home is where you make it. I feel at home with you, my dear lovely mirror image. Nadromax can wait for my revenge." Putting a hand on her belly, she says, "Besides, I feel much more attached to your reality."

You look down at her stomach, then back up at her. "Anchored, almost," you say in a low tone. "Is that why you did what you did with Ben? So that you wouldn't have to leave?"

She looks away. "No..."

"Don't lie to a liar," you say in an equally low tone. "Faye... you DO actually want to get revenge, don't you?"

"Of course I do! More than anything! I've just been enjoying myself, is all."

You frown. "Yes, me too. That's the problem." You stand up and leave her next to your pile of books as you make for the exit. She asks where you are going, and you reply over your shoulder, "I can no longer afford it."

Within your meeting chamber, you summon a meeting of your cult heads, and demand tribute. "I seek power," you inform them. "Rituals, artifacts, spells, I care little what form it takes. I want each cult to produce something for me, to bestow upon me their greatest power in whatever form it may take. Whomsoever has the greatest shall earn my favor."

They all look at each other before you lean over the table and clarify, "The time of my revenge draws near, and my patience grows thin! Now do as I command!"

They all bow their heads and make for the exit, each of them returning to their cults to gather their resources and knowledge to find what would make the perfect gift for their dark queen. You eagerly await the results.

The first cult to approach you upon your throne is the Children of Twilight, the group primarily involved in growing food to feed your realm. The Fifth Chanter is followed by six of his followers, all of whom are bowed in supplication before your grace.

He carries a small box, wooden, gently cradling it in his hands. He kneels before you and opens it, revealing a single golden seed.

"My queen, this seed comes from our most sacred plant. With its children, we have blessed soil and used it to grow crops of many varieties. This one plant alone, gifted to us centuries ago by an earlier Witch Queen, is the sole reason we are able to feed Aran."

"Is that so. What is so special about the seed?"

"The seeds, when planted, bear no plant. Rather, they enrich the soil, making all things that grow within it strong and prosperous. The soil is free of contamination, and also resists many of the bleaker environmental effects of this realm. It allows the soil to endure. These seeds are rare, for the sacred plant given to us by your grace bears only a few seeds a month."

"So it seems you have at least one to spare. And what will it do for me?"

"If consumed, you too will share the qualities it bestows upon the soil. You will be hardier, more resilient, free of disease, and all children you bear will be healthy, strong and beautiful."

You lean down and take the seed into your hand. "This is quite the gift. You use all of these seeds for the production of food?"

"All of them, your majesty, without exception... until now. Do not chew, only swallow."

You nod, and pop it into your mouth, swallowing it down. After a moment, you close your eyes and try to feel if there is any effect, but it may take some time. "We shall see if you have earned my favor," you tell them, then your eyes catch another cult entering. "Begone."

They bow and leave as the next cult takes their place.

The Hearers of Silence approach, led by the Privileged Keymaster. A curious man who bears many rings of keys that jingle with every step he takes, he is tall and thin, completely bald, and has a crooked nose. Strange appearances aside, you know the Hearers of Silence are a small cult who listen to voices that come in the darkness, and through these whispers have amassed many things that are kept locked away.

It seems that one such thing is to be your tribute, as a lockbox is produced. The Privileged Keymaster lifts up an arm, a hundred keys softly clinking together as they hand from his robes, and he unlocks it with a loud clicking noise. The box is opened and a scroll is removed. He holds it up to you and speaks in a scratchy voice.

"My queen... this scroll was written by one of our scribes who was meditating deep within the tunnels. There, a great gust of wind from below, from another plane he says, swept over him and it carried a voice. This voice spoke of power, as they often do, and he hastened to write it down. Long have we kept knowledge of this ritual, waiting for the moment of its use. It did not take us long in our meditation to hear its whisper... it seeks you. It was made for you."

You take the scroll and look over it. It appears to be a ritual relating to the element of wind, meant to grant its user power from the elemental plane of air itself. Your eyes scan over it and you begin to realize its potential application in modifying your transformation, empowering it with even greater abilities...

Looking back down at him, you smile and say, "This will do nicely. Tell me, if you know: what has been whispered to you about my revenge?"

He looks up. "Much, my queen. You attract beings from afar whose eyes are drawn to your presence, to your quest."

Your eyes narrow. "Spies of Mordrax?"

"These beings hold no allegiance," he explains. "They are... beyond. They whisper. Nothing more."

With a nod, you send them out, going back to reading this ritual. You are still reading it over when the next cult approaches your throne.

The Night Temple, the cult which trains and produces the custodial guardians, approaches the throne. Led by the Ardent Steward, the armored figures march in formation before coming to a perfect halt and rendering a praying salute. The Ardent Steward steps forth.

"My queen, ever has the Night Temple stood ready to do your bidding. Upon the day of your revenge, whatever role you would have us perform, we shall live and die by your command. But above all other things, you must reach your goal, and it is our duty to do everything in our power and means to help you do so."

"You speak well, Steward. What have you brought me?"

From his belt he removes a small purple bag, and from within he withdraws a potion. "We do not question, we do not spread rumors, but we do listen. We know you seek revenge upon a great wizard. When it comes to magic, one can never be too careful, or risk being careless. This potion will allow you to reach your goal with absolute certainty."

"What is it?" you ask, looking upon its dark liquid contents.

"The Night Temple produces these brews in smaller doses to assist in its duties, but for you we have prepared the strongest potion of its kind. This potion renders any form of magical detection inert. All power to see through illusions, to detect power and life, to be divined in any manner, to discern lies and charms--it nullifies it all. This potion, made of the most flawless of ingredients in the perfect proportions, is of Absolute Nondetection."

You take the potion in your hand and swirl it around. "How long does it last?"

"One full day. You may use it to walk amongst the most guarded and paranoid of mages in the world, and all of their wards and spells will fail even as you stand in their midst. They will not know who you are, no matter what."

"Excellent..." you say with a smile. "This will be very useful indeed..."

The Cabal of Darkness approaches with their leader, the Grand Warlock, holding what looks to be some kind of cloth. As they advance, it becomes more apparent that it is a cloak.

He kneels and holds it over his head, unfolding it so that you may see it in full: it is an orantely-designed cloak of many subtle runes of blue and purple, and the way it catches the light tells you it is enchanted.

"For you, my queen, a very special gift. It has been passed down from Grand Warlock to Grand Warlock ever since the founding of our cabal, and now I humbly grant it to you in the hope of gaining your favor. This cloak grants its wearer advanced protection against all forms of offensive magic and spells. "

Your brows raise. "Ah... Much like Ben's shield," you muse to yourself, taking the cloak in hand and running your fingers across its surface. "This is good. I had a nice cloak that was on my former body. This one however will do nicely..."

Standing from your throne, you throw it over your shoulders and snap the brooch into place. You can feel the cloak's warmth, not only from its fine material, but the protective magical aura it bestows upon you.

'I'd like to see father punch his way through this...'

The Cabal of Darkness and its master silently see themselves out. Looking over at Sheldrake and the Red One, you enthusiastically say, "This has been going swimmingly so far. I should've demanded tribute much sooner."

The Red One raises her hand. "Caution that you do not take too much advantage of their devotion, my queen. I recommend you do this once and keep your word about bestowing your favor upon one of them. Your cults are the connection between you and your people; best not to sour the relationship by taking too much."

"One tribute isn't so bad," you say. "Besides, I'll keep my word and choose one for my favor. Fret not. And I may even return some of these gifts when I have used them to obtain my revenge."

Even though you doubt you will, you say it to placate her. The next cult enters with their gift.

The Phantom Church and the Speaker of the Dead approach, hovering just above the floor. She is flanked by several spirits, faceless and silent phantoms all, who fall upon spectral knees as they reach your throne. The Speaker of the Dead levitates up towards where you are seated, holding a silver scepter in her hands.

"My queen," she says, lifting up her hands to present the shining rod, "I have done as you commanded. When you last spoke your desires to me, we set about the creation of a great and mighty tool, which you now possess. The legion of the Phantom Church is yours to command."

You take hold of the scepter and inspect its flawlessly-engraved surface, noting the ethereal qualities the gems upon it seem to possess. "It ix exceptionally beautiful," you tell her.

"Its uses far exceed that of the aesthetic," she speaks in her echoing voice. "With this scepter, all the restless spirits of the Phantom Church will obey your every command. Furthermore, it can summon them forth from anywhere in the planes, drawing them from Aran to appear where you desire, ready to do your bidding."

"A legion of the dead at my fingertips," you whisper, looking the rod up and down. "This pleases me greatly."

The Speaker of the Dead bows and floats away. She and her spirits all vanish into the floor, their offering concluded.

As you ponder the applications of such a scepter, you consider that your spirit servant Eremba was on your corpse at the time of your death. You curse lightly, swearing to retrieve him along with the remainder of your belongings when the time comes.

The Witch Queen's Daughters are next, your most popular cult, due in no small degree to their carnal proclivities. The Matchless Companion, carried upon her lounging chair as usual by several beautiful female cultists, carries a black garment wrapped in a crimson sash.

They set her down before you, and she rises to step from her couch and kneel before you to present you their gift, revealing a beautiful elven-style dress of black and red.

"Our greatest seamstresses have prepared this for you, oh queen," she says. "We know you can conjure darkwoven fabric with but a spell, but this dress is special. Not only was it made by the finest and most skilled hands among your Daughters, it was made with magical purpose in mind."

"Do tell," you say, curious about what it may do.

"This dress carries with it an enchantment of concealment. Not of your beautiful and gloriously breathtaking body, your majesty, but of spells you imbue it with, specifically those of the abjuration school."

"Meaning what, exactly?"

"Meaning that when it is prepared with the spells you desire, you can immediately conjure forth whatever wards and armors you desire in an instant. With this, you can both look stunning and, when the moment comes, be prepared for battle."

"I see," you say, taking the dress and looking upon it. "This is rather stunning, and revealing in all the ways I like... I am pleased. You make take your leave."

The Matchless Companion bows once more, as do your other Daughters, before they carry her out of your throne room.

Two cults approach your throne: the Servants of Shadow and the Midnight Souls. Both cults dealt with the shadow demons; the former making deals with them, and the latter offering bodies for them to inhabit. They have fallen out of favor with the people of Aran, and consequently their numbers have dwindled, ever since you declared war upon the demons and they betrayed you by letting your brother into Aran. The leaders of the cults bow before you.

"My queen... we are unable to offer you much," the Noble Attendant says. "Much of our resources were provided by the shadow demons, be it money or information."

The leader of the Midnight Souls, whom you understand is new due to the old leader being taken over by a shadow demon and killed leading a suicidal attack against your centaurs during the conflict your brother started, clears his throat. "It is likely that our cults will either disband or merge into one as we search for a new, mutual purpose."

"I see," you say, considering the two before you. "It is a shame that you had to suffer due to my refusal to deal with the demons, but it was necessary. Aran's future will be one without demonic influence."

The Noble Attendant nods. "We understand your reasoning, my queen, and wish you well in your efforts to exterminate the demon presence." He withdraws a potion from within his robes. "We can offer you this... It was used by our members to prevent harm from shadow demons when we dealt with them. When taken, it will allow you to resist dark magic and its effects."

The other takes out a scroll. "We offer you this, your majesty: a scroll of exorcism, specifically used to remove a shadow-being from one's body. We kept many of these on hand, in case we needed to reverse the process we once bestowed upon others. This one is the most powerful our order had on hand, in the event of an absolute emergency."

"Does it apply only to shadow demons?" you ask, wondering if it could be used to expel the harmful material of That Which Never Sleeps from within you.

"No," he says, handing you the scroll as you take both it and the potion.

"Very well," you say, looking at their tribute. "Your efforts in transitioning from a position of dealing with demons to now is appreciated. Endure, and you will be rewarded for your dedication."

They both bow and swear to report all instances of demon association and communication to your royal guard and custodians before excusing themselves.

The Umbrian Brotherhood, led by the Witness to Nothing, approaches your throne in a small procession. In her hands is a book, and you recall that they study the eldritch and the unknown, recording their knowledge in great texts, some of which line your library's shelves. When they halt before you, the Witness speaks in her monotone voice, "My queen, we have brought you your tribute."

"A book," you say in a neutral tone. "I take it the subject matter isn't exactly made for light reading?"

"The Erosis Esoterica, our most valuable tome, handed down to us from our founder. It is the most comprehensive guide that exists to beings from across the planes, be they from the realm of dreams or the chaos of the abyss."

You take it from her and look it over. "A guide only?" you ask.

"It contains information on every creature you could desire, summoning instructions, weaknesses and more. It also catalogs spells from various dimensions and other rituals that draw power from and are chiefly used against creatures and beings from beyond."

"I can see Faye getting some use out of this," you say. "Have you nothing else that can help me in a more immediate sense in my quest for revenge?"

She bows her head. "We collect knowledge, your highness. Nothing less, and nothing more."

You nod and slide the book alongside you. "Very well. I'll find some use of it regardless. You are dismissed."

They quietly shuffle off as you look over at Sheldrake, who has been holding all of your belongings. Despite holding quite a bit, he shows no signs of faltering.

"How many more?" you ask him, though not out of impatience.

"You have three more representatives to meet with, your highness."

"I certainly hope whomever arrives last has something to make up for it," you say. "Many of these have been quite wonderful so far; the bar has been set quite high."

The Celibate Lord of the Antumbrian Order arrives next holding a small jewelry box. Followed by several of his subordinates, he falls to his knees before you, proclaiming your greatness. "The Antumbrian Order has few artifacts of power to its name," he says, placing the box in the palms of his hands and lifting it up for you to see, "but our order was founded by a half-dragon. His power was well-documented and inspired many, leading to the rise of our order, seeking the perfect mixture of blood through hybrids of different species."

You take the jewelry box and open it, revealing a black ring with blue symbols glowing upon its sides. As you take hold of it, you can feel it hum with power. "What manner of ring is this?"

"This ring contains the soul of the father of the one who founded our order, a dragon of great power. He was a wind dragon, and his power can be wielded through this tool."

"The powers of a wind dragon," you say, looking it over. "Fascinating..." As you slide it over your finger, you feel the power swell within you, and the ring glows even more brightly.

"The soul of the ring has found a worthy host!" the Celibate Lord cries.

"Well, I am a hybrid of sorts," you reply smugly. "Your gift is accepted."

They leave, cheering and parading out of your hall as you look upon the ring on your finger. Judging from the aura it gives and the power you feel within, you know that it will augment your elemental air powers quite nicely.

The Faithful of Aran enter. All of them are shades, led by one called the Venerable of the Fade. As all before them, they bow and praise your name, though you don't see an immediate gift in their hands. The lead shade steps forth, an elaborate robe giving way to sleek battle armor beneath.

"My queen, I pride myself on the creation of each shade within your realm. Your royal guard is comprised of them, and each are proud warriors in their own right. We shades have a philosphy when it comes to combat, that if your enemy cannot see you, they cannot kill you. And if you can attack your enemy without being near them, to do so."

"I can respect that," you say. 'Especially after recent events...'

Reaching up to his neck, he removes a necklace and presents it to you. "This is a powerful tool," he explains as he places it in your palm. You look at it; it resembles a tiny dagger dangling on the chain. "It allows one to conjure swords of arcane force. You can create several at a time, and launch them at your foes, even surround them with the blades. And of course, you can also wield them in your hands as swords, weightless but with the cutting edge of a masterwork blade."

"Very good," you say, slipping it over your neck. "I've been seeking a stronger spell than my arcane bolts and strikes. This will serve me well."

He bows. "May you find your revenge, my queen."

You look over at Sheldrake. "That's one left, correct?"

"Yes. The Penumbrians are all that remain."

"The Penumbrians... they are the ones who perform sacrificial rites, if I am not mistaken?"

"Your memory serves you well, my queen."

"Then let us hope they have something fantastic saved for last..." you say, looking towards the entrance as they begin their procession towards your throne.

The Bloody-Crowned Lord kneels before your throne, displaying a dagger with a wavy blade and an ornate hilt of serpentine design. "Oh great and terrible Witch Queen, we humbly present you with this, a blade of great purpose. We can think of none more fit to wield it than you."

You take the blade, withdrawing the silvery dagger from its sheath, noting its keen edge. "I presume this has seen use in your hands," you say, looking the stains of blood upon its hilt.

"Indeed, for it is no ordinary dagger. Oft have we used it for our ceremonies that call for the spilling of much blood, for this dagger's enchantment is as brilliant as it is wicked. Once it has cut, the bleeding cannot stop. Its enchantment works its way into the wound, into the body and blood of its target, saturating it in such a manner as to encourage bloodflow and prevent the body from sealing. If not tended to with magic, a wound from this blade, no matter how small, can drain an entire victim of blood... of course, the bigger the wound, the quicker the process."

"Delightful," you say, turning it over in your hands. "Are there any other special properties it possesses?"

"Just one," he says, rising to his feet. "If plunged directly into the heart of an enemy, it will instantly stop. The resulting heart attack will cripple the foe and kill them in but a moment."

"Well, most people have difficulty surviving getting stabbed in the heart regardless," you deadpan. "Are you certain that isn't just you saying that?"

"Ah, but hearts come in many shapes and sizes, my wise and beautiful queen. Whether you plunge it into the heart of a man, a dragon, an angel--they will die."

"I'll hold you to that," you reply, sliding the weapon back into its sheath.

He and his followers leave, and Sheldrake steps forth. "You have received tribute from all of your cults, my queen, save one, but that is the cult you sent to infiltrate the capital."

"Yes, they'll serve me well enough when the time comes," you say. "Now, I suppose I should choose one of these gifts above all of the others and give that cult my favor, hm?"

The Red One steps forward. "It would be wise, your highness. Many of the cults have given you great treasures at their own personal cost."

You look at all the gifts and consider which one is most worthy of your favor.

>My favored gift is the Silver Scepter of Spirits.
It is the truest realization of the fact that where I go, Aran - its people and its power - follows. It is this realm that has made me stronger than ever before, and I can think of no better army at my back than those who worship me and call me their goddess.

Honorable mention goes to the Dagger of Bloodletting, for providing a weapon most keen for my revenge. I cannot even begin to think of a finer weapon to plunge into Mordrax's black heart and stop cold. I will put this to good use, as will all these gifts.

Making your choice, you hold aloft the Silver Scepter of Spirits, granted to you by the Phantom Church and its leader, the Speaker of the Dead. "This is a mighty gift... Though all are truly worthy gifts for their queen, this one has certainly earned my favor the most by far."

"With this, wherever I may go, Aran--its people and its power--follows. It is this very realm that has made me stronger than ever before, and I can think of no better army at my back than those who worship me and call me their goddess, even beyond the realm of life." You point it up towards the ceiling and call them forth. A black portal opens and from it pour wispy, white and wiry spirits that encircle the chamber, their haunting echoes creating an ethereal choir from beyond the grave. "Hear me, spirits! Hear me, Aran! The time of my revenge is nigh! You shall carry me to my enemy and together we will rend his very soul and cast it into the void!"

The wailing of the spirits, so desperate to cling to any hint of life and emotion they can that they echo your sentiment for revenge, spills throughout the halls of the Umbral Citadel. You raise your hands and close your eyes as you bask in the chanting of the spirits of Aran, the countless souls who have lived and died beneath the Witch Queens of old, as they cry out for your revenge.

You laugh as the wave of wailing ghosts slowly bleed into the walls and vanish into the floors, carrying your message of revenge all throughout your realm as they spread outwards from your seat of power in all directions. When the last echoes of their calls leave the throne room, you lower your arms and sit back, crossing your legs. Looking at Sheldrake and the Red One, you smile and ask, "How was that?"

"I think the point was communicated," the Red One says with a smile. "What comes now, your highness?"

"I must retire to my chambers and study. Even with these tributes, I need more power."

They bow and you rise from your throne once more, collecting your new belongings. Once within your private chambers, you bar the doors with a spell and let out a long sigh. Rubbing your eyes, you travel to your bed and cast aside your darkwoven robes, standing to look in front of a mirror.

'You died,' you think to yourself, staring at your reflection. For a moment you simply continue to look at yourself before your expression hardens. 'It was a moment of weakness... nothing more. Of course not even death can hold me back... I am Sirena. I make death obey me, not the other way around. It has no sway over me.'

Turning back, you clench your fist. 'Mordrax, my father, all of them will pay dearly... very, very soon.' Walking to the bed's edge, you climb into it and get comfortable, feeling weary after your resurrection. You close your eyes and fall into a dreamless slumber.

When you awaken, you set about your work. Gathering your spellbook, several texts from the Lost Library, as well as your new belongings, you begin making your plans for the next month leading up to the ball. Names, dates, hastily-scrawled notes, and splotches of ink falling from your quil rapidly fill up pages and scrolls.

'Power,' you keep chanting in your head. 'I must become stronger. The secrets must be hidden within my reach. It's all here, I know it is. Finding the lost tomb of the human lord and the Demiurge, the power within my blood from my moon elven ancestor, there must be a key somewhere to unlock all that I need and more.'

A moment of clarity comes as you sit surrounded by your work. You stand up amongst it and think to yourself, 'This isn't the way. There is only so much I can gleam from books and notes... Every ounce of power I have achieved, I have taken. And why not? It is all rightfully mine to begin with. I survived the Black Gauntlet because I deserved to. Me! And Faye, too... but she still counts as me.'

You look back at yourself in the mirror. 'If I am going to get revenge, it won't be because it will be handed to me, I will have to take it! Just as I must take power where I can find it... I need some action.'

We will travel to the dreamscape of our ancestor once more to face her darker side when we resume. Tomorrow is of course Thanksgiving, and I'd like to take a momnt to personally thank each and every player who has been with us along the journey. As we near its end, it warms my heart to see how far we've come from running in the woods.

Updates are going to be scarce these next three days, I'm sorry to say; holiday plans and all. Thankfully the nature of /qst/ will allow us to continue this thread for longer than that, as even the previous sidequest is still up on the catalog. So stay tuned for more! Like I said, we've still got some things to do.

I hope you're all enjoying the story so far, and have a nice meal with friends and family. See you when we resume.

Traveling deep into the Umbral Citadel where your ancient ancestor is kept, unconscious and unresponsive, you approach her and place a hand delicately upon her cheek.

"You were the wellspring from which I flowed," you whisper. "A line of descendents across countless ages, culminating in me. But now, you will be the power with which I achieve my revenge. There are secrets and spells trapped within your fractured mind that I will discover, even if I have to tear it from your very memory and rend what little of your mind remains in twain."

Closing your eyes, you prepare your spell of venturing into her dreams. You have been here before, and so you know what to expect. There is one part of her mind darker than all others, the one that will actively fight you, but that is the one you seek. If you can defeat her within the realm of her mind, bend her to your will and harness her power, you'll be able to steal her secrets.

What you leave behind will be of little concern to you. Once you have found the secrets of your elven heritage, you will focus on that of your human heritage, for you are the union of two bloodlines that started with the very woman whose mind you now find yourself slipping into.

Her dreams have become darker since you last ventured here. Clearly, the more powerful portion of her mind has been growing in power. Even cut off from the moon and vulnerable as she is, your ancestor has undoubtedly been conserving and building energy, waiting for a moment to break free.

'Well, we'll just see about that, won't we?' you think as you manifest a projection into her mind. You look around at the strange, stormy void of swirling clouds. The surface upon which you stand appears to be a chunk of moon rock no larger than an elephant, floating in the endless expanse of her mind. In the distance, you can see more chunks, some within leaping range in this low-gravity environment, forming a trail leading to a broken and half-shattered moon.

This place is possessed of strange properties, being a realm within a mind. Thankfully, you have experience with this, as you have been spelunking in dreams before. Holding aloft your hand, which you know is not your actual hand but rather a psychically-projected imposition upon the 'reality' of the dream through which you express your physical form, you close your eyes and focus on seeking something familiar out. Rather than look or listen, for your senses can be easily deceived in a place such as this, you feel--and in so doing, find what you seek.

You lift off from the rock and soar through the void, following the trail of moon chunks until you find one that has what you want. The little girl you met when last you were in this place is there, building another moonman, adding to a collection of several of various sizes and shapes. She looks up as you levitate slowly downwards, descending until you touch delicately down upon its surface.

"Hello!" she says in a cheery tone. "You're back!"

"Indeed I am. I have come to fulfil my promise."

Her smile falters somewhat. "Now isn't a very good time..."

"Why is that?"

"The mean one. She's almost awake, and the others are all trying to keep her asleep. There," she points at the fractured lunar body. "They're all there... But they can never get along, so I don't think they'll succeed. They'll fight and bicker amongst themselves and she'll wake up, just like the time before, and before, and before."

You kneel down and give her a smile. "I survived the Black Gauntlet. I think I can handle another group of witches at each other's throat."

She doesn't make eye contact. "I hope so..."

Gently and encouragingly, you reach out for her hand. "Could you show me where they are?"

She hesitates, but after a moment, places her palm in yours, her tiny hand completely enveloped by your own. You smile and stand up, walking with her towards the edge of the chunk on which she has built her little piles of rocks. "Ready?" you ask her, and she nods. Together, you both leap from its side and take flight, holding onto each other as you spread your arms and make your way through the dreamscape.

As you fly and pass by several other chunks that get progressively larger the closer you get to the broken moon, you look over at her and ask, "What if you were in control of the body?"

"The others would never let that happen," she says in a forlorn tone.

"This is just a hypothetical question. What would you do? If you were in charge?"

She is quiet as she thinks. "I wouldn't want to hurt anyone. I think I'd just like to be left alone."

"You don't want friends or other children to play with?"

She looks over at you. "I'm ten thousand years old. Kids would be kind of boring, don't you think?"

You chuckle. "I suppose so. It's hard to think of you as being so old, but you've truly been around that long? How are you not mad, like the others?"

"I deal with the loneliness better than them, I suppose," she replies. "I made peace with it all long ago."

You give her another look. 'Curious, this one...'

As you reach the surface of the moon, she takes the lead and guides the two of you over the landscape until you reach a large fracture. "The mean one sleeps in the center," she explains. "It's cracked because she's going to wake up again."

"We can't have that. Show me where the others are."

She nods and continues on, taking you further and further down into the core of the moon. There, she takes you through a dark tunnel and keeps low to the ground before coming to a stop behind a pile of rocks. The two of you peek over and you see about a dozen moon elves, all of them resembling your ancestor, situated around a large carvern. They appear to be arguing and shouting at each other.

Creeping over the rocks, you listen closely to what they are saying to each other.

"You?" one says, pointing at the other. "You can't control your own emotions, let alone a body!"

The one she is pointing at shouts back at her, "At least I'm not so blinded by pride that I cannot admit my own mistakes!"

A third strides between them. "Both of you are pathetic. Your words are as meaningless as your existence."

The three of them argue while several more break out around the open cavern. From your observation, you can see that each of them seems to be based around some specific emotion--pride, envy, angst, lust and so forth--but they all share a desire to be the one in charge, and thus they are locked in a conflict in which there seemingly can be no compromise.

Down below, you see the ground they are standing on cracking. The little one alongside you says, "She'll wake up soon..."

"Come on," you say, taking her by the wrist. She protests as you step out from your hiding place and stride towards the center of the cavern. Almost immediately you gain their attention, as several of them shift their focus on you.

"Who is that?" "It's that girl, the one who let us out!" "The one who trapped us, you mean!" "She only did so to stop the other one!" "How is she here? Is this some trick?" "She's with that little weakling..."

Stopping alongside the crack forming in the floor, you put your hands on your hips and declare, "Is this it? All that is left of the great and mighty moon elves? A bickering conscious that accomplishes nothing?"

"I'd get plenty done if it weren't for the others!" one of them cries. Another one shouts, "Oh, please! You wouldn't know your hand from your foot if you were in charge!" "Silence! Let her speak!" "I say we get rid of her!"

You shake your head and put a hand on your forehead. "Are you all children? How can you debate the succession of a throne before it is even secured? You are all fools." Turning in place, you look at them all and say, "You know you cannot defeat the most powerful of you all. Even if you were to all work together, you eventually break down and ruin your chances of success with your infighting and arguing."

"It's not my fault, it's hers!" "Quiet, you! You're nothing more than a half-rate copy!" "Would you all shut up?"

"Enough!" you say. At your feet, the floor cracks some more. "You're all going to release your darker self if you keep this up. The futility of this all must be exhausting. Can't you see that you must unite and stay united? Your psyche is splintered and must be repaired, and I suspect that you could do so if you stopped insisting that you all must be in charge."

"But I deserve to be in charge, not them!" "As if I would ever submit to her, or her, or her!" "Why would I spoil my perfection with their impurities? I am the supreme being, they must admit this!" "Only I deserve to remain!"

As the arguing begins anew, you look down at the ground and see it cracking some more. The little one grips your hand tightly. "What are we going to do?" she asks.

You look back at the bickering clones and shrug. "Oh, well, I suppose I'll simply have to show them who is the true master here."

Raising a hand towards the roof of the cavern, you summon forth several spectral lashes. Here, in this place, you have access to spells and powers entirely conjured by your mind, and imposed through your will. These weakened versions of your ancestor, each only a fraction of their true potential, are nothing compared to you and your driven mind. With singular pupose, you manifest these lashes which shoot outwards and wrap around their necks.

The small one alongside you puts a hand over her mouth as you force the others onto their knees. Some of them resist more than others, and so you pull on their lashes until they fall. As they wince and struggle, you send a surge of power through the glowing lashes and shock them into submission. After a few moments more, they all fall to their hands and knees, what little resistance remaining rapidly fading.

"You are nothing before me," you tell them. "I am your mistress now." One of them begins to protest, but you send another surge of your power towards her, frying her on the spot. She falls to the floor, unconscious. Of course, in a manner of speaking, she was never 'conscious' to begin with, but those are mere semantics.

"They're beaten," the little one says in an astonished tone. "I don't understand... how?"

"Because I am from without," you explain to her. "Your mind is broken from infighting, making it vulnerable to outside influence. I am that influence."

"Perhaps so, but only until she awakens," she replies, and as if on cue, the floor continues to crack, but now chunks of it begin to fall into the recesses. You look down within the dark void that is being exposed.

"My ancestor," you mutter, somewhat amused. "I dealt with you once before, but now it is time to finish this."

You step back, along with the little girl at your side, and watch as the ground shakes and opens into a wide fissure. Pulling tightly upon the reigns you have wrapped around their necks, you force them to come closer, whereupon you issue them demands.

"Now listen closely, you fractured pieces of a broken mind, your bickering ends now. The dark one is rising, and you are going to work with me to stop her. From here on out, you do as I command. Now ready yourselves!" Yanking once more upon the mental lash, you force them to look up as the darkest and most destructive part of your ancestor's mind rises from deep within the core of her mind.

She floats upwards, surrounded in an aura of shadow, and opens her eyes. Like two glinting points of white light, they look upon you and the others with ultimate disdain and disgust, yet her mouth twists into a smile as her lips twitch.

"All of you in one place," she says, her fingersslowly reaching forward. "Within my grasp, vulnerable... Even you, little one!"

The small one hides behind your leg as you get her attention. "You'll not find me as vulnerable as you think."

She cackles, rearing her head back in laughter. "You will die here, and your lifeless body will be a puppet for me to control and play with."

"You wouldn't be the first," you mutter. Pulling on the lashes, you shout, "Now!"

Every corner of her subconscious that you have enslaved unleashes their power upon her at once, blasting at her with beams of light. She recoils but guards herself, holding up her palms.

"Your power is useless," she declares. "I was always the strongest of them all, and their bickering has made them weak!"

"Maybe," you concede. "But I haven't added in my power yet."

Raising your hand, you gather your mental focus and unleash it upon her.

Adding to their power, you throw yours into the mix as well. Your willpower is like a shining beacon in this fractured mindscape, burning brightly in the dark of the cavern, but her power is great as well. With a gleeful howl, she surges forward and returns the energy directed at her, redirecting it towards you. Her beam meets your own and the two clash, struggling against each other.

You grit your teeth and dig your heels into the ground as you push back, trying to focus not only your own power but theirs as well. Her dark aura is powerful; this is her home, and she isn't going to give it up without a fight. The other portions of her mind begin faltering and losing their energy, but you pull tightly upon them and command them to keep up the attack even if they are destroyed.

Looking down at the little girl, you tell her, "You must add your power, too! Every ounce of it! Every last bit!"

She looks around, uncertain, before raising her hands and preparing to do just that. The dark one sends a wave of energy surging towards the small one, knocking her onto her back. She laughs at the misfortune of both you and her other selves.

"Pathetic, all of you!" she cries. Looking at you specifically over the energy flowing from her hands, she continues, "Death is too sweet a prize for you... When I retake my body, I wil crush and stamp out every last memory of you! Your society, your civilization, your entire world! All of it will be destroyed!"

You ignore her words and look back at the small one. "Get up!" you shout over your shoulder. "Get up and fight!"

She twitches, managing to weakly push herself up on shaking arms. She looks up and raises her palm.

Your foe unleashes another pulse of energy, knocking back several of her inferior copies and blasting them aside, including the small one. You find yourself sliding backwards as you find it suddenly very difficult to impose your will upon her. She is composed of madness, chaos and, like you, is singularly driven--it just so happens that her drive is the eradication of all life. Like a wall of uncompromising stubbornness, it doesn't seem like her mind can be influenced, even by another driven and purposeful intellect.

'This may have been more difficult than I assumed,' you realize grimly.

She laughs again, already reveling in her victory over you. You close your eyes and curse your bad fortune in coming in here alone, so self-assured, even after your most recent defeat at the hands of your father... If your very mind is destroyed instead of severing its anchoring to your body, would you even resurrect?

Well, you're not about to find out! You are Sirena Le Doux, Witch Queen of Aran, and you are her superior! She is nothing more than an echoing, mad shadow of the past, a cackling witch laughing at nothing. She is weak, you are strong! You merely need to find another way to fight her...

Digging deep, you look within for a solution.

'Within... Within...' You look around, and realize that the solution within comes from without! The various scattered shards of her mind, weakened by her aura of madness, are vulnerable to exploitation...

You are of her blood. Countless others may be as well, but none of them are in a position such as you to inherit her power. Unlike all other descendants of that first union between man and elf, you are here, and more importantly, you are powerful enough to be worthy of the great and mighty legacy of the moon elves. Of course, it could only be you! None are as great, beautiful and powerful as you are!

With a word of command, you summon the vulnerable shards of her mind towards you. Because of the bond you share with her through your blood, and because of the power you have amassed, you can do something to them that hasn't been accomplished for millennia: uniting them, by force in this instance. Having drawn them closer, you continue to hold back the power of the dark one as you begin to absorb them into your psychic core. All of her emotions--happiness, anger, sadness, fear and many more--begin to seep into you, unable to stop it from happening. This is dangerous, for there is a threat of them overwhelming you, but in this instant they are weak and so you can maintain your sense of self even as you absorb them.

Memories flood into your being, of another life, another time, thousands and thousands of years ago. Fragments of the Moon Elf's life flicker into existence as they are united in your mind, bringing with them knowledge and power. You begin to realize the true extent of what she was, and what you could become--there is only one obstacle in your path.

With renewed purpose, you push back against the madness. She stops her laughter as she realizes what you are doing. "What? This is my body! My mind! You can't have it! You are weak, pitiful and your blood is diluted with earthly mortal filth!"

Your lips curl into a smile. "There is a reason you lost the war," you tell her, your power now threatening to overwhelm her completely. Nearby, the small one cowers behind a rock as the last stray remnants of the broken psyche other than herself are completely brought into your mind. Now, with a unified majority of her mind merged with yours, the madness has lost its advantage. Against all of them individually, she was greater--but now you and they are one, and much greater than she ever could be.

"This cannot be," she cries. "I must destroy the world, destroy the heathens that walk upon it... I MUST HAVE MY REVENGE!"

"Take solace in knowing that I'll achieve mine when you are gone."

Though you were unable to stop her on your own, now that you have merged with most of her mind, you are able to push her back and force her into submission through sheer willpower, supercharged by your newly combined souls. As the dark one falters and her powers of madness prove unable to stop your advance, she lets out a wail of sheer agony, ten thousand years of pain and frustration, all thwarted by you.

You could annihilate her here and end this madness once and for all... but there are gaps in your new memories. Within this shard are some of the most devastating spells, ones of destruction and pain untold. Memories of when she ruled the moon elves and led them into war against the great human lord and the Demiurge. These memories were locked away when she was first sealed, but they grew into the shrieking mass of madness before you, which you now stand poised to do with as you please.

"I need more power," you say, standing over her as the world shifts and changes around you, now controlled by two different competing minds as each tries to assert dominance over the other. "The other parts of your soul are mine. You will be next!"

"No!" the small one shouts, running up to you from behind. "If you take her into you, her madness will forever taint you!"

Standing over her, you look over your shoulder. "What does it matter? The strongest spells are within her mind, from when she was an empress who led an entire people to war!"

"And destroyed them all, and got herself locked away for ten thousand years!" she cries. "Yes, she has power, the strongest of spells, but you'll get the bad along with the good! You'll never be satisfied, always wanting more, unable to quench your thirst for power and destruction!"

You look down at the shard before you, who is rapidly devolving into a shadowy mass. "I can overtake her without consequence," you insist. "I am stronger than she is. I only want my revenge!"

The small one shakes her head and pleads with you, "You don't understand! She and her ambition for would dominance and destruction would live on through you, even if her influence would only corrupt you over time! You have an opportunity right now to end it all, now and forever! To break the cycle! Yes, you'll lose her power, but you'll keep your soul!"

"I'll always have my soul," you shout, pressing your fingers upon the core of the dark shard. "I am Sirena Le Doux! I deserve this power... It should be mine..."

The small one falls to her knees, looking at you with tears in her eyes. "Isn't what you already have enough?"

"I... I..."

Your voice trails off as you stand upon the brink, ready to take the plunge into ultimate power and, perhaps, ultimate madness. On one side stands you, the Sirena you have been up until this point, living contentedly with the friends and family you have built for yourself: Ben, Merriam and all of the others. Yes, you have power, and you have achieved your revenge, but you could have had more. On the other side you stand alone, above all of the others, having risen so far as to eclipse them all, even Mordrax. You are a witch of unparalleled power, amibition and greatness: a ruler, a demigod, a god... who is to say how far you could go?

But what if you can't control it? What if it changes you forever? What if you can never take it back?

Dare you take the risk?

This is it. There are no half-measures here, not at this turning point of destiny.

The choice must be made...

Closing your inner eye, you hear the small one's words echoing throughout your soul, as if directly speaking to you not only as the last remaining voice of reason in the Moon Elf's mind, but as your very conscience. And in a way, given that you have absorbed every other aspect of her personality other than herself and the shard of madness lying helplessly before you, she is just that.

You gaze down upon the font of power before you once more, one last time, before finalizing your choice. With a burst of sudden power, you focus everything you have used to contain and subdue the shard inwards upon it, crushing it. With one final shriek, an incoherent and babbling one that echoes throughout the void, you snuff out whatever life it had and sever it into pieces which you then scatter to the dark corners of the now mostly-empty and still mind.

Crumbling to your knees, you contemplate what you have just lost. Power unheard of for thousands of years that you only barely glimpsed bits and pieces of, power that could have carried you to unimagined heights of success and glory, all within your grasp, all gone in an instant.

You feel a hand on your shoulder, and turn to look at the little one who hugs you. "You did it," she whispers. "You did what none of us could ever do."

"But at what cost?" you ask, not only to her but to yourself. "It's gone... Whatever knowledge and power she had is gone and will never return."

"It's for the best," the small one says. "What she knew shouldn't ever have returned. It is a blessing." Pulling back, she looks at you with a proud smile. "Now, whatever you do will be your victory, not hers, and you'll get to enjoy it without hungering for more."

"Is that true?" you ask, your voice barely above a whisper. "Could I ever possibly be content?" Looking down, you admit in a rare moment of self-reflection and vulnerability, perhaps brought about by the new aspects of your combined personality and the fact that she is technically part of you, "I don't often make the best choices. There are times when I am impatient, greedy, and terribly vain."

"That's the human part of you," she replies, lifting up your chin. "In some ways, the best part of you. If you had taken that essence, you might've forever lost it."

You smile and give her another hug. Yes, you regret what might have been, but in a way you are also glad. You know who you are and what you are, and nothing can take that away from you. Whatever end you face, you face it secure with the knowledge that you are Sirena Le Doux and that you are your own master.

Slowly, the dream fades, and you open your eyes to behold the Moon Elf in the sanctuary she was held captive in. She awakens as well, and you know it is safe to undo her bindings. She gently touches the floor as your conjured tentacles retract into the walls, and looks at with a smile.

"It's me in here," she explains. "What about you?"

You pause in a moment of introspection. "I can feel the other pieces of you within my mind, but they aren't a threat. They're connected again, held in a kind of balance in my subconscious."

"That's good," she says with a simple nod. "I'm happy that they were able to find some peace, and some good use."

Putting your hands on your hips, you ask her, "What are you going to do now?"

"I would like to return to the moon," she says in a wistful tone. "There, I intend to live out the rest of my days, not harming anyone or anything. This realm of yours is nice, I'm sure, but I feel as though I am wasting away. I must return."

"Soon," you promise her. "I need to be certain that you are not a threat."

"I see..." she says, lowering her gaze. "I am to be a prisoner, then?"

"You will be watched, and accounted for, but you needn't be a prisoner. You can have free reign to walk amongst my realm if you so desire."

"It isn't the moon, and all places that are not are the same," she replies, sitting down in a cross-legged fashion. "Since it is all the same, I shall remain here until you deem me allowed to return to my home." She grows quiet, apparently having no more to say.

You frown. Perhaps you are not certain quite what you expected, but if that is what she desires, then so be it. When you need her, you know where you can find her. Turning and striding away, you look at your hands and contemplate the new powers you have unlocked. Though they will be of great use, you are far from done with your work. You have finished collecting power from your moon elven ancestry, and now must focus on your human ancestry: finding the tomb of the human lord and the Demiurge.

By combining both, you will have enough power to defeat Mordrax.

I'll call it there for tonight. More coming soon.

Sorry for the lack of updates, folks. I came down with a nasty flu and it's been kicking my ass. Hard to write with all that funk.

I've archived the thread. It can be found, as usual, here:
