"... and after an excruciating 4 hour siege, the CTU's have confirmed the apprehension of 14 unknown assailants. All 25 hostages, including the French World Senator, Jacque August, have been rescued, and are all receiving medical attention after the events tonight.

The CTU's have yet to inform anyone whether this attack is associated with any of the 5 other terrorist attacks made this year, but will be announcing any findings that they make over the next two months..."

-----

You are Deltorian Tessan, Department 7 operative, and finishing up debriefing the rest of the squadron that helped you deal with the terrorist cell, you can't help but feel relieved at not having to deal with another Artemis attack.

As you exit the APC, quickly nodding a head over to the unconscious member of the squadron, stepping off towards the main control section of the Department facility, you feel the slight buzz of your internal comms implant go off.
>>
"Operative Escort. I know I'm not s'posed to page you for these kinds of things, but there's some rookies who have gotten completely lost, and I need someone who knows this place to show them around. I know you're Ten and all, but I don't trust one of the others to do so."

With a sigh, you trudge towards pings located in your HUD. It was true that you knew the place like it was your playground, but something felt suspicious about getting you to do of all people. Just that gut feeling you get when something's either being pulled on you, or is going on behind your back.

When you arrive, three fatigue clad rookies, hailing from Eastern Europe judging by their features, mill around while trying to understand the map that they've been handed.

"Filip, we've literally gotten lost on the first day, and you're only making it worse with that stupid pride of yours." you hear the first man mutter, a black haired, heavily built man. Approaching, it becomes clear that he would have definitely have been in the Solar Peacekeeping force, from the dog tag design around his neck.

The slightly shorter man standing in front of him, eyes focused on a holodisplay. This "Filip" must be the "best navigator" seeing as he's staring at the map of the World Council Building in Russia.

The final member of the group, one you almost didn't notice at first was a young woman, hair cut short and around her shoulders. The blur of other Department workers rushing to and fro due to the recent increase in Artemis Initiative activity, she almost disappeared, but you've been had your experience surveying such situations for "suspects".

As the woman quietly observes her compatriots on the mess of job navigating, you decide to approach...

>The Two Men. The bigger man might be easier to talk to than the woman, and you'd hate to miss the opportunity to mess with Filip.
>The Woman. Maybe you'll understand the demeanours of the rest of the group and seeing as she's making at least an effort to be unassociated with the blundering mess in the hallway, you might just surprise her.

As you take your place a couple of metres from the woman, carefully observing the two as they finally figure out which map that they're looking at is wrong, you clear your throat, loud enough for their female compatriot to hear.

"You know, most people would appreciate it if you helped out, rather than stood around watching them flounder with maps."

As the woman turns to you, a stream of information fills your internal HUD, almost threatening to crash it. Among which, is the transfer record for these "rookies".

"Solar Peacekeeping Forces Transfer Records - Mia Karakova - Transfer to REDACTED - Captain Karakova who was noted to lead the Jupiter Station raid, alongside her two subordinates Filip Marchanko, and Serge Martinoff, have been scouted by members and executives within the REDACTED. The Council and Solar Peacekeeping forces will be offering and transporting the Captain and her subordinates to observe and decide on whether they wish to stay with the Peacekeeping forces or join REDACTED."

As she stares at you, slight confusion and frustration in her expression as she tries to understand your practiced poker face.

"Mia, right?" You say, chuckling slightly as you push off from the wall. "Tell those two to stop looking at the Solar Peacekeeping China Branch, else we'll be here all day."

So, she's bad as fuck. Got it.

Leading the way forward, you hear the quick pattering of the three soldiers following quickly behind. Pointedly walking back to the entrance area, you motion with your cybered left arm, at the door.

"Welcome to Department 7, home to about 90% of the Council's Black Ops operatives and response forces. As you would have noticed, we're in the nice rainy United Kingdom, and judging by the string of Solar Peacekeeping accolades, you spent most of your time up in the big black void."

You hear the muttered speaking of the two men as they discuss topics such as uniform designs of passing response units, to the technology on display on the monitors of passing support staff.

As you're about to continue chatting, the "captain" interrupts. "And you would be? I heard we were going to be given a guide, not an 'augmented' puppet."

You feel a slight chuckle escape your lips, before you continue with your tour, leading the group to the main control sector. "It seems to me that you need to know a few more things before we continue." you say, wheeling around in circle, the tails of your coat fluttering up from the motion.

>Explain to her the hierarchy of the Department
>Explain to her the relation between Department, Solar Peacekeeping forces and the World Council.
>Explain to her your skill set, and specialisation, alongside any accolades you've received.

"I'm not sure if you know what is the structure is like here at the Department, but there are a few things that I need to make sure you know before I lay it on thick to you."

As you say those words, a devilish smile crosses your lips, one that you only make when you're bluffing someone at poker, or when you know you've got someone cornered and with no way out.

"It's a very simple idea really. First and foremost, we serve the World Council. Not the departments it created so that they didn't have to do work. No, we serve the big wigs and the execs that said that you could have a look at this gray-zone facility."

As you say this, you continue forward, half expecting the defiant captain to quip back, half expecting her to be further frustrated by your devilish attitude. When she speaks up with some retort, continue.

"Then it's the Director, and the Ten. The Director, I'm quite aware you have the common sense to figure that one out, but the Ten, who are they, right? The Elite specialist operatives that are only really deployed to problematic situations, such as today. And then there's your group. Support staff and response units are relatively the same on level."

Finish up your spiel, you continue forward towards another part of the base. As you do, you pause a moment recognising one last detail you need to give.

"Oh yeah. I didn't tell you about myself. I'm Deltorian Tessan, also known as Escort. Current number 5, member of the Ten. Now hurry up, I've got a meeting soon."

With that out of the way, where to go now?
>R&D department, find out what's been going on and show the rookies to the good doctors and [spoilers]hackers[spoilers]/tech support.
>Training grounds, see who's training and maybe test out these rookies yourself.
>Intelligence Ring, check up on new Artemis information and show where the rookies the people who'll most likely be briefing them.

With the Captain dumbstruck by your new revelation, and the two bozos still following her like a pair of chicks, you lead them towards R&D, half tempted to turn them in due to symptoms of shock and Stockholm syndrome, half hoping that you can get them interested in the new tech coming out, and not quipping you about how you have a metal arm.

When you arrive, the scurry of tech specialists trying to decipher the new Artemis cell's encrypted databases is a strange sight. As you pass them, a small square lights up in white on a display, highlighting small sections of code that would probably be the loose threads need to pull the codes apart.

Sat in her own chair by what could only describe as the world's thirteenth largest home display network, is the Yoko "Binary" Bishop, 10th member of the Ten, and your sister.

"Junior, my brother is here. Could you entertain them for a while, while I finish up this ripping this firewall to shreds?" you hear her mutter under her breath. As she does, a small pink holographic elephant appears within the air, trundling towards you before stopping in front of your face, where it toots its trunk at you.

"Just here to show some newbies around the lab, seeing as they might be around here more often."

Mia stands there glaring daggers at you, while Filip and Serge stare in wonder not at the massive walls of coding running along the 16 different monitors in front of Yoko, but also a distant display of new power armour suits.

Now you're here, what do you want to do?
>Check in with the other resident R&D Ten member. It's been a while, and your arm kind of needs a tune up.
>Figure out a way to pawn off the rookies to Yoko. Family gives each other a hard time.
>Do the whole tour guide thing and walk the rookies around and give some explanation to this place.

As much as you would like to stay and chat with your sister about "need to know" information, you could get it later from the information ring, when you aren't being followed by two wide eyed soldiers, and a woman who seems to be trying to blow up your mind through her incredibly powerful psionic master.

You quickly turn towards another section of the department, the group following you without much questioning. When the bright pink elephant hologram casually trots up to your shoulder, Serge does try to ask you what it is, but stops himself before the words escape.

"Junior is Binary's personal AI assistant that can be displayed throughout the entirety of the Department's headquarters, through multiple minute projectors spread out throughout the building." You begin answering, making note to walk past the AI memory storage sector. "I'm sure you have worked with VI aboard one of those starships, but these are semi-sentient AI that can have the capacity to build and rewrite their own code to suit certain areas. While they do have the freedom to do whatever they want in the allowed fields, all knowledge of areas outside their required expertise is made impossible for them to learn."

Mia continues staring into your back, a feeling that is starting to make you slightly uncomfortable, or at least until you realised that your hip holster had shifted slightly under your coat.

"You keep talking as if we care. When will we be able to leave?" you hear her ask, just before you reach the testing areas. You pause for a moment, waiting for the mood to settle for a bit, before you enter the room. As you do, you mutter under your breath.

"Can't believe I have to deal with a 'golden age' prick..."

The room quickly enters into one of the largest arrays of both experimental body armours, guns, and ordinance, and various groupings of droids both for support purposes and combat purposes. Multiple support staff are quick to greet you and Junior, quickly noting your entourage before heading off to different sectors in search of newly cleared equipment to both show off and to field test.

Mia for the first time take a pause as she gazes at the equipment lining the nearby racks, equipment she has never really seen besides the full body EVO suit that is standard issue in the Peacekeeping force, and during a brief presentation on the Europan colonies siege.

Quietly, you approach a secluded corner of the "labs", motioning the group to approach. As you do, a soft hiss begins to emanate from behind a wall, before loud pop echoes around.

"Tao, you still alive. I need a check up. I also have rookies with me." you shout, motioning the group behind you to sit down on any non cluttered surface.

You wait a bit, carefully going through the disconnection process on your cybernetic as a young man approaches you, small amounts of shrapnel stuck to his welding mask, and soot covering his coat. He quietly mutters to himself about nerve-wiring connections as he shimmies it free from your sleeve, before you turn to the rookies, somewhat awe struck at this somewhat eccentric man.

"Mia, Serge, Filip, let me introduce you to 'Blacksmith'." you say as the man quickly disconnects the hand from the main arm section, quickly scanning and replacing various parts with a speed that seems almost inhuman. In a matter of a minute, he already has you rearmed, and tuned up.

"You four, leave now. I would like to show you what I'm working on, but you need to prepare your report for the Ten, and you three aren't important enough to see it just yet." Blacksmith says as he shoos you out of his corner, muttering yet again about electrical resistance and cybernetic functionality.

With that, you need to figure out what to do next, especially with these rookies.

>Leave the rookies with someone else and get that report done for the Ten meeting.
>Explore a different section. (Intelligence Ring, Training Area)
>Let the rookies have fun with something in R&D.

As much as your report is an important legal document regarding the events throughout the month including, but not limited to, the siege on the Artemis terror attack earlier today, you don't follow the rules all too well. In fact, the Director has on multiple occasions just let you off with a simple warning to get them done, which you have, so that he can worry about other matters of much bigger importance. The reason, because you only answer to him regarding your more important missions, and no one else. And besides, the intelligence ring is both interesting for rookies and a good place to catch up on hiding Artemis cells.

Striding confidently into the room, followed closely by Miss Pouty, and her chicks, you find the room in a very big mess. Paper, are strewn everywhere, but in an ordered chaos that you barely recognise. Around a holomap of the globe, alongside multiple monitors with the planetary colonies on them, is a small group of specialists all arguing with each other about certain cell movements, alongside the state of political battlefield. Among them is Richards, resident tactician and mastermind.

Making an effort to step louder than usual, the older man with his neatly cut beard flecked with white and slick black hair turns to greet you, "Ah Del. I see we have visitors to the ring. Welcome to the brain of the operation." he says, directing the last part to the rest of the group. As he approaches Mia for a handshake, you recognise the look on his face, one who has seen so many people, and knows how each one ticked with a single glance.

"I can take them off your hands to show them around Del. I'm sure there is information that you will be needing somewhere." He states, while he herds the group away from you.

As he does, you...
>Follow after him (noticeably or stealthily)
>Look for cell movements. You have an assignment coming soon and you might find it useful.
