“Do you really have more land than water? Is it true you only have one type of Pikachu? You have different religious beliefs, but what are they? Does everyone have eye and hair like you? Do your eyes see differently than mine? What’s it like to court someone for your people? What sort of psychics do you have? What’s a border without water like?”

You go through the questions each at a time, feeling a bit overwhelmed and having trouble keeping up. She barely seems to remember the last one by the time she asks the next one.

Gobble fetches everyone a new cup of tea while doing his best waiter imitation, and he somehow convinced Mace to act as his serving table. As your blowing on yours, you notice Polu is looking a bit strange.

Oh! Is he trying to find a way into the conversation? Is he going back to being worried about his problems again since he’s no longer talking? Does he want you to help him win her over? You can’t tell. You suddenly feel like a negligent friend.

She scoots closer to you and begins again with more questions. “What’s your food like?

Your brain takes another jerking turn as your mind floods with all sorts of interesting things to talk about on that subject.

“Well, the food is different, but what really stands out is surfing.” You say, trying to transition smoothly and doing a terrible job of it. “I never lived near the ocean, and-” she’s already amazed at that statement, “here actually was one Pikachu that was fairly different. It could surf. The move and the sport. Made the news.”

“News?” She asks, confused.

Polu gives you a big grin. He knows exactly what you’re doing, and starts filling her in.

That question about news took you by surprise. You guess she’s just as secluded as Keira was. Keira’s been a pretty quick learner, though, curiously gobbling up as much information as she can.

The psychic girl keeps glancing to you like she wants to ask more questions about the mainland, but she keeps getting sidetracked by Polu interjecting. She doesn’t seem to dislike him, but her curiosity is strong.

You yawn. “I’m feeling pretty tired. I think I’m going to head on off to bed.”

“Your sleeping bag, you mean?” She asks.

You nod. You suppose the difference matters in her eyes. Must be one of those tiny little cultural things.

“I should sleep too.” She says, but she seems wide awake. She turns her attention back to Polu. “In a bit.”

You grin, feeling like an expert matchmaker, and leave the two alone.

You decide to actually go to bed. After all, it’s pretty late and you do miss Hana.

Gobble and Mace follow you into the tent. You have to very carefully step over a sleeping Dice in front of your tent. Awww, Gardevoir is asleep and leaning against him. You guess being so huge makes him a good pillow.

You fumble your way into the tent without waking anybody up. But that might be partly due to Keira, the lightest sleeper, already being awake in your tent. Hana and Laki are fast asleep. Laki, on her back and spread over most of the floor, and Hana, with her face smushed in the pillow and her behind in the air under the covers, like she passed out that way.

“Hana said to give you this and wake her up any way you please, if you wanted.” Keira says, handing you a bottle of...lubricant!

You sputter a bit. Keira has that same innocent, wide-eye’d smile she always has. “I can leave if you want. I just...well, I wanted to act differently in front of the psychic temple preistesses and keep my distance from everyone. But when I felt that urge, I just couldn’t handle being that dishonest with who I am and decided to come sleep with my friends and cuddle instead. Hana and Laki said they didn’t mind. Hana even lent me some sleeping clothes.”

You can only sort of see what Keira has on as she’s half under the blanket, but you can tell those lingerie must be pretty revealing.

You put the bottle aside, and slowly ease yourself into the bed next to Hana and near Keira. “Want to chat a bit?’

“Sure.” She smiles. She starts telling you a bit about the trip to the temple. She says that Hana and Abigail ended up taking a trial there when they asked for help. Abigail ended up having a panic attack, but Keira says Abigail probably wouldn’t want her to talk too much about the details. Hana ended up winning a pokemon battle with a strong trainer and Abigail almost caught a new pokemon, but decided against it.

Laki grabs you from behind and uses you as a body pillow, but she’s still fast asleep. Hana looks like she might be stirring.

You snuggle under the blankets and hold the quasi-sleeping Hana from behind. She snuggles back into you.

“So,” you begin. “Polu and the priestess are getting along.”

Keira smiles. “I’m glad. I know he has some...misgivings about the clergy. He hides it, and before I didn’t understand, but I do know. I used worry a lot more about thinking these things, but now I’m starting to feel comfortable saying them out loud. Is that strange?” She waves away her own question. “I’m glad Polu can see past his worries about the system and still get along with the people. It is made up of mostly good people.”

You hesitate for a second to figure out how to phrase it. “I mean, really getting along.” You tell her as your hands start to climb over Hana under the blanket. She stirs a bit, giving a small sound to indicate she’s awake. That prompts you to go from cuddling to a little bit more risque touching under the blanket.

Keira blinks for a moment. “Like...Oh! No.” She reacts in disbelief. “No.” She reiterates in an accepting, gossipy tone. “No.” She laughs again, as if you’re pranking her. She looks in that direction. “But they’re not supposed to do anything with boys until they’re older. That’d be...” Keira trails off, realizing her hypocrisy. “Umm, well...”

While Keira comes to grips with that, you and Hana are also gripping things under the blanket.

“Should I stop them?” Keira asks you, but also herself. “I know how...overwhelming it can be when you’re exposed to boys suddenly.”

Hana quietly gasps. You know how she feels.

“I’m sure he’ll be fine. And her too.” You say, trying not to let your voice crack as you and Hana begin to really get into it.

“But...it’s really easy to fall into temptation.” Keira says, looking back to the direction of the campfire like she might somehow see something. “You spend all this time being told to avoid these things and concentrate on your studies, but that just builds the taboo and excitement up in your head even more. And whenever a handsome boy comes near the temple or you go out on duties, it’s all the girls whisper about. And the first time you’re along with a boy and your head just swims...and the smell...” Keira sharply inhales.

“MmHmm.” Hana agrees quietly. She lets her hands go under the blanket and you feel some shuffling. You’re confused for a second, until you feel your pants tugged down and the press of her skin against yours

Keira sighs. “Maybe I’m just projecting. I must admit that since I’ve been thinking about the role of a fertility priestess, and been exposed to more of that sort of thing, my I’ve been distracted.”

“It’s fine.” You tell her, trying not to give away what you and Hana are lining up under the blanket. Oh gosh! “Polu is responsible, and I’m sure she’ll know her limits too.”

Keira slowly begins to let herself lower back down, next to Hana. The slowly, subtle, rhythmic movements the two of you are making right next to her seem to be below her notice or concern right now. At least, she’s not saying anything. Keira settles in, facing away, and from what you can see over Hana is going to sleep.

Hana begins to get less and less subtle. She’s clearly very frustrated.

You and Hana begin to really get into it. It’s clear she’s been pretty pent up, and while you do your best to be as subtle as you can, it begins to become pretty obvious what’s going on.

“Keira’s going to notice.” You whisper to Hana.

“Maybe we can teach her a few things.” Hana jokes. You think. At least, until Hana’s hand subconsciously starts to reach out to Keira.

You whisper into Hana’s ear that you’d like to sneak away for a bit.

“Umm, Herb...and I uh, need to..go...do a thing.” Hana says.

“Remember to stretch.” Keira says sleepily, but cheerfully, as she readjusts.

You and Hana giggle, and hold hands as you venture out into the woods. You swear you thought you heard something nearby before you began, but Hana sort of got a bit more forceful than you were expecting and she tossed you to the ground before you could say anything. Then you got very, very distracted.

You wake up the next morning feeling pretty satisfied with yourself.

Jane sits by the dead campfire, nursing a cup of coffee and looking tired. She doesn’t even react when Belladonna zooms by and drops a seed in it. She looks miserable, like she didn't sleep at all.

The psychic girls, minus the one you had a chat with, are gathered in a small cluster, whispering and giggling up a storm.

Abigail and Laki are chatting like two old friends. You can't hear what they're saying, but from the playfully annoyed way Laki swats at Abigail, it seems like friendly banter.

You haven't seen Polu or the other psychic girl yet, but you're sure they're around.

As you and Gobble prepare a large batch of pancakes for breakfast, you can’t help but notice Dice is staring at Hana’s robotic arm, wagging his tail. He almost looks like he’s going to try to snatch it. But that’s just your imagination, right?

Hana is busy humming to herself and staring off at nothing in particular to notice anything.

Dice suddenly dashes for Hana’s arm. No way! You’ve got half a second to react.

I’ve been thinking about what Jane said before about the way she and we differ in training Pokémon.

Trainers tend to have better judgement than Pokémon. They can look at the whole team as a unit and balance from there.

Jane solves this by training her Pokémon to follow her judgement closely. It takes an ability to communicate a lot between trainer and Pokémon quickly.

Herb on the other hand trains his Pokémon to make their own judgement better. What he sacrifices in specificity, he makes up for in their ability to work independently if Herb is ever incapacitated, or needs to use more Pokémon at once than he can command.

You hesitate, remembering the last time Dice was acting strange. I a trusting fascination, you watch Dice leap towards Hana, stop in mid step as she turns suddenly in reaction to adjust his course, and continue going for her arm from another angle. He first grabs it with his hands, then uses them to make sure he can safely but quickly secure it with his jaws. He yanks back, pulling the arm off. Hana stumbles and falls forward, but is otherwise fine. Confused, but fine.

Dice shakes the metal arm around, then suddenly drops it as if it bit back a little.

It clangs to the ground, loud enough to make everyone stop yelling and reacting, and then it begins to crawl.

Sorbet puffs into a small snowstorm in the few feet around her. Gobble protectively tries to take a position by the arm, hoping to avoid escalating this to a fight, and Belladonna aggressively and eagerly takes one, hoping to get in on one.

The psychic girls let out high pitched screams that you almost confuse for psychic attacks. Gardevoir puts up a small protective barrier. Laki and Abigail hold each other. Jane, in contrast, barely gives it a sideways glance before finally taking a sip of her coffee.

You walk up to the arm, having a hunch. “Rotom?”

The arm stops crawling for half a second, then continues on, pretending it didn’t hear you. It crawls away into a log, thumps hard enough to fall over, and seems to give up on trying to be spooky after that.

General rules:

There is a 10 minute voting period after each post. Non-contradictory votes will be combined as best as possible.
Write-ins for all votes are always welcome and encouraged. They may not all make it into the post or be altered to fit in, but I'll do my best to at least try to address the spirit of the write-in.

Very important or contentious votes may be redone in a stricter voting system as circumstances warrant.

Combat mechanics involve three rolls of 1d100, taking the best, and using the base accuracy and crit ranges of the the PTU system, roughly, but the 'turn order' will be more like the anime, where sometimes you can do a few moves in a row or be hit by a combo of moves yourself, all depending on circumstances. Stronger moves tend to take more time and have more cooldown than weaker moves and also may leave you open to an interrupt, so beware of that timing. Speed is more important for closing ground, intercepting, and other things and doesn't necessarily mean going first.

Pokemon and trainers are unique, and may have certain specializations, skills, or other things that the video-game mechanics might not allow. Some examples: That kung fu Bellsprout in the anime, that crystal Onix, or a Roggenrolla that can fly. Herb's perception skills, pokemon knowledge, context clues in general, and other things will hopefully come into play to avoid completely unfair, unforeseeable bullshit, but expect more bullshit from more advanced trainers.

Call me out on a mistake and receive a suggestive picture, mostly likely a butt.

Hana holds onto her heart with her fleshy arm, as if to try to lower her heart rate with the action. Abigail begins to laugh at the expression on Hana’s face, but Laki reminds her she was just as scared. Abigail of course, tells Laki that she was even more scared. The two bicker, but in a way that seems a lot more friendly than when they first met.

“Good awareness, Dice. And good, decisive action.” you tell the massive, powerful pokemon. “But, a bit more warning next time, alright?”

He cocks his head. Then his legs slide out from under him in a swift motion so he can ponder what you’ve said. You decide to let him think on it while you address the next issue.

“Rotom, we need to talk.” You say, turning back to the crawling arm. Most of the camp has calmed down now, although there’s still a bit of attention on the spectacle of the living metal arm moving about.

The arm turns up to face you.

“You grabbed me first, gaywad! You were way more scared” Abigail retorts in the background., trying to push Laki and just succeeding in making herself stagger back to laki’s amusement. You disregard that and continue.

“We need to talk about your possessions.” You begin. You reach out to take Hana’s arm to pull her closer, only to find nothing but air. You..oh right. She places her other arm in your hand after a second. “Hana’s limbs aren’t for possessing.” you think for a moment. “Umm, unless she says otherwise.”

As you glance up to Hana to make sure you’re not speaking up too much on her behalf, she awkwardly stutters. She wasn’t expecting to have any attention on her. “Umm, right. Rotom. Please ask Herb for permission. Oh, and me too.” She looks to you. She must feel a bit awkward trying to tell your pokemon what to do. She’s not nearly as take-charge as Laki, and prefers to have the least amount of pressure possible on these things. Still, she looks appreciative.

Rotom evacuates the arm, then backs itself into a corner, looking very, very worried. It’s terrified, despite your neutral tone and Hana’s almost amused nature, under her now-calming fear.

It flinches when you inch closer. Dice’s head immediately turns in sudden, sober interest.

”Hey, hey.” You approach low and softly. “It’s alright. Nobody is going to hurt you.“

It glances at it’s pokeball. You slide back into your pocket for now.

“I want to be friends as well as pokemon and trainer. Friends can trust each other.” Somehow, out of the corner of your eye, you catch Jane looking to Keira as you say that. But you don’t let yourself be distracted. “I didn’t set clear boundaries, so it’s just a misunderstanding, is all. Let’s get you fed. And when we have a chance, I’ll see about finding you something you can possess.”

It was calming down, but that makes it buzz in fear again.

“If you want to! You can choose when to go in it. Not me or anybody else, alright?”

That seems to be helpful to hear. Rotom cautiously approaches again, nibbling at the food you slide over. It’s helping a lot. Rotom lets you give it a soft petting after a minute. But you suspect it will take a lot of work before this is a regular thing.

You sigh in relief, feeling pretty proud of how you’re handling things so far. As you look over your pokemon, once again, you see Dice in another situation. Cubone is offering him some berries that it found, but Dice is coldly turning his head. He doesn’t trust them.

Gobble notices too and stops himself from salivating over the berries. They must be delicious, if his nose is telling him.

Dice seemed alright with her before, but maybe he’s got a line between being associates and being friends?

Cubone tries offering the berries again, pushing them forward. Dice once again turns his head.

Dice notices you watching, and cocks it’s head, as if to ask what is the acceptable way to act here. He must be a bit cautious after your talk just a minute ago.

You say the first thing that comes to mind. “Well, I’d take the berries. But I’m not you, Dice. Your feelings are your own, and I'll respect them. You get to choose who you are and aren’t friends with.”

Dice considers those words as he looks down at the berries. He thinks and sits, and thinks some more. Cubone begins to grow impatient, and pushes them right against his leg. Dice, having made up his mind, gets up and and walks away.

Cubone slinks into the spot on the dirt, dejected. She takes some of the berries and places one in the little slot in her wooden club for safekeeping.

Belladonna seems to come out of nowhere with a small handful of berries of her own. Did they go picking this morning? You ponder on that when you see a berry bounce off of Cubone’s helmet. Then another. Bella’s tossing them at Cubone! Cubone begins to guard her face in confusion and surprise.

You open your mouth to say something, but as you do, Belladonna gives you a quick, playful wink.

What does that mean? Is she asking you to trust her, or is she just up to mischief? And if you do nothing, how would Cubone take that?

There’s no verb in the “Dice’s feelings...” prompt so it’s not like we’re stepping in to tell Cubone that. If he doesn’t trust her, that really only can change with time.

You close your mouth, but give Belladonna a look she should understand the meaning of. She doesn’t seem to react at all, but you also understand that’s how she is.

A third berry, then a fourth hits Cubone. Cubone is on her feet now, and when the fifth one comes, she deflects it with her club. The sixth is deflected back at Belladonna, who laughs at the impact.

That adorable little giggle hasn’t changed, even if she’s evolved twice since you first heard it.

That seems to take a lot of the anger out of Cubone, but none of the determination. She picks up her own berry and tosses it at Belladonna, then another. But Gobble intercepts that second one with a happy gulp.

Dice tries to ignore the hubbub, slicing one stay berry in half before it hits him, but he can’t stop the follow-up avalanche from all three right after.

It’s a nice scene, and the four pokemon seem to bond. Oh, five now, Sorbet is joining in, using her misty ice shielding to her advantage. Ha, that’s cute. And Dice manages to speed over her and catch her by surprise anyway. Very clever!

Laki puts an arm over your shoulder and watches, smiling. “Letting them waste food, are you?” She teases.

But you know that good food nourishes more than just an empty stomach. Well, most of you knows that. You’d still rather turn some of those into a pie, at least. But you let that urge go and just enjoy the moment.

It only lasts for a bit. Your eyes are taken by another scene. Jane and Keira talking. Just from the body language alone, you can tell it’s serious. Very serious.

Jane told her everything about the beings, didn’t she? There’s no other subject Keira would look so shocked by. Not like this.

The primary emotion that comes up first is confusion. Why now? Jane is somebody who takes her word so seriously that she’d rather leap off a cliff than break it. Fear and worry follow next. Is that a good idea for her to do?

Gardevoir’s face reflects your inner feelings, and this gets the attention of the psychic girls, who then look to you. From their expressions, they probably don’t know what’s going on, only that your emotions were strong enough to grab Gardevoir’s stray focus. Fear and worry are strong emotions

Both Jane and Keira look to you, now. Keira wants to talk.

“What, uh, what did you do, Soft Hands?” Laki asks, confused.

She gives you a funny look. “Why?”

“It’s...well, it’s a matter of a promise I made. And you know how I take those seriously.”

She appraises you for what feels like a long minute, but is probably only a few seconds. “My man better keep his word.” She concedes her permission. “But remember you can depend on me too. We’re together, whatever comes up, alright?”

You give her hand a nice squeeze before going to Jane and Keira. But even with that nice gesture, you can tell Laki has a bit of uncertainty. She trusts you, but she might be getting a bit tired of having to leave it at that sometimes. You can’t blame her, really.

Jane looks up as you arrive. “She knows. I told her. Before you ask why, let me tell you; I made a promise to the being I was led to believe was the great protector. That thing, regardless of it’s intentions now, wasn’t it.”

Keira is looking deep into her tea mug.

First, you turn to Keira. “I’m sorry I didn’t say anything. I made a promise to keep it a secret.”

“That didn’t stop Jane.” The hurt in her voice pierces your heart. Keira glances up from her cup. She reacts to what she said faster than anyone and quickly follows up. “I... sorry. I know you made a promise. Jane explained that very clearly. She explained everything.”

That helps ease the injury, but doesn’t abate it entirely. “I’m glad you know, now. It was eating me up inside.”

Her face softens further. She looks up with an expression of sympathy. “I can appreciate what it feels like to be torn between what you want and your duty.”

You share a nice moment, before you have to ask something. “How are you feeling, about, y’know...”

“I’m still figuring it out. But to be honest, I don’t think I care too that much.”

“You don’t care?” You and Jane say ask the same time.

“I know how some people view my religion, and well, all religion, I suppose. They see it as a matter of blind faith. But it’s not. To me, it’s always been as real as the laws of physics or how math works.” She gives a funny, sad smile. “I was never as good at those, though. But anyway, it was just a matter of figuring out the answers, based on study or other methods. If this is the actual reality of what happened, then, that’s just what it is.”

“But they’re not Gods. They’re just pokemon.” Jane’s curiosity overtakes her sense of tact.

“What’s the difference if they do the same thing? Well, sort of.” Keira looks down again at her mug. “I didn’t expect the heretical teachings to have a grain of truth to them. I suppose I should have.” She gives a weak, defeated, half chuckle. “Maybe I’m just tired. I don’t know anymore. But I’ve already decided that the ways it guides my life, even if we’re mistaken on the origins of the stories, are still something worth following.”

She looks drained and defeated, even if she’s taking this as well as she is.

“I know it hurts, but I had to tell you.” Jane says.

You turn to Jane. “You could have warned me you were going do that, by the way.”

Jane holds her eyes on yours. “You didn’t seem that concerned about any of it last night. You just made your way to Hana without a care in the world.” Despite the attempt to hold a glare, you don’t really sense anger from her. Something similar, but not strictly what you’d call anger.

“Just seems like you’re a lot less concerned about this than the islanders, Haojin!” You remember that haojin is a derogatory word for mainlanders. Even she looks like she feels that was too far. She breaks the eye contact. Now she apologizes much like Keira. “I’m sorry. That was...just something I said because I wanted to hurt you. I didn’t mean it.” Jane pours herself another cup of coffee. “I know. I’m just frustrated. That doesn’t excuse what I said, though. It’s...very important to me that you understand that. I’m sorry.”

You dig deep down, and let it go. “It’s ok. I know this isn’t a fair situation for anyone. All is forgiven, and forgotten.” You assure Jane.

Jane looks genuinely grateful, as well as genuinely guilty. “You’re a good friend.” She says quickly and quietly, as if nobody will notice if does that.

“But Jane, don’t you realize how dangerous it is to anger that being?”

She looks up again. “I do. But letting it operate in secret is more dangerous. And you can’t give in to fear from beings that rely on it to keep you in line. We both want to stop the same thing, but it doesn’t deserve the power over me or you that it gets from our silence.” She straightens her back. “I promise, I’ll do everything I can to protect you if it tries to harm you.”

Her intense violet eyes meet yours. That’s a promise you can bet on.

“Keira, why don’t you tell me what you know about all this?” You say once Jane’s stare becomes too uncomfortable.

She puts her finger on her chin, somehow never smudging her face paint. “I know that there are too ‘protectors’. One liked the people of the island, the other grew jealous. When it attacked us, both fought, and the protector was hurt, going to the bottom of the ocean where my people believe is the hole to the next world.” She slumps a little and sounds depressed describing that part. She looks betrayed. “That’s where it eventually died. The one that attacked us went to a cave to die as well. Both of their spirits still linger, and they’re growing stronger. The one that attacked us regrets it, but the one that protected us also regrets it and seeks revenge. It’s been recruiting champions, presumably by tricking them. We need to find these trainers and talk them out of helping it. Whoever they are, they’ll have a talisman or symbol on them, so we’ll know by that.”

Jane nods. “That’s an apt summary.”

Keira gets up. “I’m glad you told me, Jane. As sad as this makes me, it’s a relief. I’m finally able to decide my own path, too. I’m going to become a fertility priestess.”

Jane spills some of her coffee. “You are?”

“How can I send people to the afterlife when I know now that the portal is a lie? At least I know that bringing new life to the word is precious, with or without a guardian God looking over us. Maybe even moreso.”

“Congratulations!” you say, patting her on the back. “I’m really happy for you.”

“Thanks!” She lights up a bit. “Sorry for being so self centered about this all the time. It’s been on my mind a lot and I feel like I’ve been too inwardly focused and not paying attention to my friends.”

“I never felt that way at all. Besides, it’s a big decision. It deserved a lot of thought.” You assure her. “I want to help in any way I can, alright? I’m entirely at your disposal.”

Her smile changes somehow, and her wide, dinner plate eyes go even wider. She starts poking her fingers together bashfully. “Oh...gosh. Herb, you really mean it?”

“Of course. Anything at all.” You reiterate.

Jane looks like she wants to say something, but Keira cuts her off and gives you a big, strong hug. “T-thank you, Herb! I don’t think I’d know how to ask if you didn’t offer. But will Laki and Hana mind?”

“Mind me helping a friend? I can’t imagine why.” You say, confused.

What’s with the look Jane’s giving you? It’s like she wants to know if you’re flapjacking serious.

Keira keeps poking her fingers together, then waves some cooling wind into her face. “Oh gosh. Alright. I have a lot of preparation to do before then.” She shakes her head clear of stray thoughts. “But before we even get into that, we should talk more about what happens next with the beings.”

Jane lifts a finger to say something again, but looks like she’s just going to drop whatever she was going to say, and begins on something else. “I think the first step is to tell the others.” She says. They deserve to know, too.”

Keira hesitates. “The girls from the psychic temple...I don’t know if they’d be able to handle it. I can barely process it right now, and I’ve had a lot of time to meditate on it. And it could make their and our lives...difficult.”

Jane cracks her own neck. “I don’t feel right letting them continue on without telling them. Consequences be damned.”

“I think Keira knows best on this.” You tell Jane. “Some people dig in when they’re confronted with stuff like this too suddenly. And as much as I hate to say it, the being we’re working with needs all the support it can get right now, even if it’s not entirely informed.”

Jane thinks. “I’m not sure I agree, but my urge to tell could be emotional.” She admits. “I suppose we can always tell them later, but we can’t untell them. Still, it doesn’t sit well with me.”

“Me either.” Keira confesses. “But I’m still trying to make sense of it.

Jane looks to the smaller priestess. “Why were you so willing to believe me, anyway? You didn’t even doubt what I said.”

Keira gives her a funny look. “Why wouldn’t I believe you? You’re more dedicated to the islands than most clergy. Your temper doesn’t disqualify all your other heroic traits.”

Jane has no idea how to respond to that. It’s not often she’s speechless. She has to take a few moments to let that get absorbed into her brain before she moves on. “So, for our plan then, we’ll tell the group after the psychic girls go back. I think they can handle it. In the meantime, until we have a lead on finding a champion, we’ll continue doing what we’re doing. Now, on that note, where’s Polu? I need to whip him into shape.”

“Well, good luck and have fun.” You tell Jane. “I’m going to train with Rotom a bit, and see if I can figure out a good name.”

“I’m still sort of figuring this out, but I think I’m going to do some meditation and stretching.” Keira says, giving you a look you can’t quite figure out. “Lots of stretching.” She walks off.

Huh. You wonder what she meant by that. Oh well.

“Rotom!” You call out. “Let’s do some training!”

The small buzzing pokemon zooms right up to your face. It’s way quicker than you’d expect. Dice zooms up only a second later. You suppose he’s still not used to Rotom and wanted to make sure whatever was flying at your face wasn’t something to worry about.

“Thanks, Dice, but we’re just training.” You pat his head.

Dice lowers down. The difference in weight between him and Rotom is very noticable. He might not be as agile as it, but he seems very good at using his momentum to his advantage.

Rotom gives you a questioning look. What sort of training will you be doing?

You suppose today’s choice will have an effect on shaping your relationship with it.

“Let’s learn about your moves, buddy.” You tell the Rotom. The small, flying, Electric Ghost twirls in its place in response. You’re not sure what to make of it until Rotom fires off a Thunder Shock at the firepit, sending a small but still dangerous amount of sparks and wood flying.

“Woah! Rotom slow down. We’ll figure out targets in a second, alright?” You try to sound upbeat to keep it from being scared again. Rotom still ends up very concerned about risking making you angry, but it takes a little less effort to calm in down this time.

“Okay.” You say again. “Let’s start from the top. Show me your favorite move to use, and we’ll take it from there. Uh, aim for that rock.” You point out something far from the others.

A bright, nearly blinding flash of light explodes from Rotom at the rock. You’re very glad you pointed him in that direction, because otherwise you’re pretty sure you wouldn’t be seeing anything else today.

You work with Rotom on exploring all it’s moves, and referencing the pokedex and knowledge of the others, you come up with a pretty impressive list.

Ominous wind and Hex are both on the level-up list, so we should be able to get one eventually without too much trouble. We could also try and get a Shadow Ball TM, but that seems like overkill for just establishing a solid Ghost STAB, and if we play our cards right Hex will be better anyways.

Overall, this Rotom seems “low level”, since it’s highest level up move is Uproar at level 8.

Ally Switch is an incredible get. Fantastic utility in battle and out, especially for something as mobile as Rotom. We should try and have Rotom teach it to Keira’s Shedinja, as that’s a move/ability combo that can absolutely rock certain opponents.

Something of note is that it knows “frustration”. It’s a move that gets more powerful the less a Pokémon likes/is loyal to its trainer. That really heavily implies, along with how it flinches from us, that this Rotom had a very bad experience with at least one trainer.

Trick presents some interesting possibilities, and I’d like to teach it Telekinesis too.

Double team is coming up on Rotom’s level-up list next, which means we should probably start our training out there with an easy one.

Which brings me to something I’ve been thinking about for a while now regarding our overall training regiment...

How many of you are familiar with the “near universal TM list”? It’s a list of TMs that work on almost every Pokémon that can learn TMs. Only a few Pokémon, like Kriketot, Tynamo, and Unown, are unable to learn these TMs.

If we combine this list with the ability to use Pokémon that know a move to help teach other Pokémon that can learn that move, we get some significant possibilities. For instance, Rotom easily learns Double Team. We can then have Rotom help teach our other Pokémon Double Team. Similarly, we could have Laki’s Bergmite help teach our Pokémon Protect, or have Gobbs help teach all our Pokémon Rest/Sleep Talk/Snore.

The move that stands out to me most is “Mimic”. It was only a TM before the gen 2/3 split, so until the VC games came out, you couldn’t get Pokémon with it. That’s why even though it doesn’t appear on move lists for current generations, it’s on the “near-universal TMs list” and should be learnable by all our Pokémon. What Mimic does is it becomes the last move used by the opponent, for the rest of the battle. I think it really works well with how Herb is a good teacher, that his Pokémon all learn a move that is the “learning a move” move.

I think Gobble would be the perfect Pokémon to learn it first, since he’s always been a natural at mimicking Herb, and with Metronome he’s always had a move that becomes other moves.

How does that sound?

Depends on how you think about time. A lot of theories are that you can't change the past, so viewing the past and travelling to the past have little to no difference if the past is static.

In the anime, time travel is frequently shown to alter the original timeline, and in other cases is hinted to work the “it was always that way” way.

Time travel is surprisingly frequent in Pokémon even outside of involvement with Dialga and/or Celebi.

When you "alter" the time line normally what you are doing is entering an alternate timeline, but you can't change the timeline you are from. It's like taking a different fork in the road. Just because you went left instead of right doesn't mean the right road was destroyed.

I don't know what anime you are referring to but time is shown in lots of different ways in all media. for example in the book "Slaughterhouse Five" and the movie "Arrival" time is described as a continuum where an entity doesn't exist in one point of time, but at all points in time that they are part of the time continuum.

You can travel all you want along the continuum if you are able or more likely can see along the continuum, but it's all connected. It is all one thing and it doesn't change. The way things will be are the way things always were and the time that has passed came to pass because of what time will be.

A couple notes on Keira:

1: I think it’d be a good idea wait until she officially changes temples before sealing the deal. Y’know, renounce the vow of celibacy before breaking it. Otherwise, even though Keira’s thought this through, it’ll look like Herb’s shipped in and started snatching up local women and seducing them away from their lives. And he doesn’t need any more bad PR than he gets just by being blonde.

2: Keira has previously expressed her total lack of interest in girls. She’s since begun exploring her sexuality, but I do wonder if she’s going to be comfortable involving Hana and Laki in her “practice” and “ceremonies.” I don’t think Herb’d be comfortable not involving them.

3: Use a condom with Keira, we’re not dating her and it’ll help Laki feel more comfortable for sure.
