You are 999, a blobby mass of joy and happiness for all! And currently you are traversing an expanse of light in the company of your friends.

List of (most of) your current Traits/Skills/Trinkets/Friends&Enemies/Unknowns: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1DTotahWWAV6ZsE9tjkoC82psDp-gm2R64OzuK1Euq9I/edit?usp=sharing

Previously on 999 Quest:

You, Blackwood, Spanko and your two counterparts ended up crash-landing in what seemed to be a modern day park after escaping through a shining portal from a bunch of rather revolting entities. And after looking around a bit, you encountered a group of rather trigger-happy mercenaries who didn't take too kindly to your presence. Cue firefight.

After a rather fierce fight, you were interrupted by something you were hoping you wouldn't have to see. Another anomaly, though the name escapes you still (9-something?), it was clearly something that wasn't a part of this reality naturally judging by how the mercenaries reacted to it. Especially after it killed their friend in cold blood.

So after yet another drawn-out battle, you successfully managed to 'destroy' the anomaly, but it looked like you'd end up right back to fighting the mercenaries again, but before that could happen, the mysterious stranger, now known Stephen, appeared alongside your Purple counterpart and whisked you to safety.

Currently, you, your friends and your counterparts remain alongside Stephen as he leads you through an expansive void of glimmering lights. He doesn't seem at all bothered by anything around him, so you're probably not in danger, but it might still be a good idea to ask him just where all of this is.

>Ask Stephen where we are and where we're going.
"Blorble-blorb-blorb-blorble?" You ask the strange man before you, who slowly tilts his head slightly.

"Hm? We are currently traveling through a very small portion of a large interconnected network capable of linking dimensions and realities together. Think of it as being akin to a very large computer system." Stephen responds, voice as calm and collected as ever. "I felt it the fastest and safest way to get to our destination."

"As for the Archmage, do not worry. He survived. Mostly."

He continues moving forward following that cryptic statement, seeming content in his answer. Before you can continue asking questions, you hear Blue call you over from behind.

"[Hey, Orange. I think we need to have a talk, all of us. Now.]"

You move over to Blue, quietly noting that Red and Purple are doing the same, as you attempt to mold some of your slime together to form a crystal like you did for Vuindred.

>roll a 2d100 for your attempts to form a crystal from your slime

As you approach Blue, you can clearly see that he's glaring straight ahead, but not at you. You turn slightly, and see that his ire is focused squarely upon Stephen in the front, who is now chatting amicably with Lord Blackwood.

"[I don't trust him. Not one fucking bit.]" Blue growls out somewhat. "[He might've saved Purple and I'm glad for that, but there's definitely something wrong about him.]"

Looking over to Red and Purple, you see that they seem a tad bit stunned at what Blue had said, but not (well, mostly not) from his suspicions about Stephen. But seemingly from the fact that he admitted to actually caring for something that isn't fighting.

"[Listen, I'm fucking glad that he did all of that, but he just feels...'wrong'.]" Blue growls and looks down at the ground, even as you finish attempting to mold a crystal from your slime. Though instead of something solid, you get a runny mass ofhalf-crystalized slime. Sighing, you draw it back into your form before turning your attention back to the conversation at hand.

"[I do share Blue's sentiment to a small degree.]" Purple chips in, to your surprise. "[But until we see otherwise, we should consider him an ally for now. He's been helpful thus far, and it would be a shame to burn a powerful partnership just on a hunch, would you not agree?]"

Blue looks at Purple for a good while, grunts and turns away, continuing forward to meet up with the rest of your friends and Stephen.

You turn to Purple and shrug a bit, before going on to joint Blue, with the others eventually following you as well.

"Ah, I see you've finally caught up." Stephen chuckles as you approach. "Well, we're almost at our destination, though I've noticed something somewhat troublesome. It might prove to be an obstacle on our course back to the material. I'd advise you to be cautious."

>Obstacle you say? Any way to avoid those entities detection or evade them entirely? (Ask this question to purple as well)
"Blorble-blorbbit? [Can we avoid them In any way? Avoid detection?]" you ask Stephen and then turn to Purple next to you.

"[Doubtful, Orange. If one of *them* is here, it likely already knows we're here. It's just biding its time until we are too distracted to counter it.]" Purple quietly explains, staring forward unflinchingly. "[I'd advise that we strike immediately before it decides to do so first.]"

>Get ready guys! By the looks of it we'll be dealing with that black entity again (referring to the Black king) Purple get your spells ready!
You shout out to Purple and the others to ready themselves, and you watch as Purple ignites blue flames along his form as Blue (and Red, though hesitantly) ready their swords. Turning around, you stare into the darkness before you, trying to get a better look at what you're facing. The static twists and writhes, and proceeds to take a vague shape in the dark.

"I... am... Uriel... My sole purpose is to build up the Millenial Kingdom under the authority of Our God Most High... Thou unclean ones who have dared to tread upon this most holy ground... Shall be expunged."

The scratchy, mechanical voice speaks in a horrendous merger of sounds that still manages to come off as dull and monotone when put together. And with those few words, the entity gestures and inky black flames surge forwards toward you all.

You and your allies fall to the ground after dodging away from it (though you vaguely note that Stephen did not move from the oncoming attack. He's just suddenly beside you now), as Uriel begins to approach you.

"Thou should not resist, children of Scarlet. Thine destruction shall come quickly. Mercifully." It intones monotonously, its voice a deep buzz of clicks and crackling metal.

>Unleash a song of fury upon Uriel!
You call upon your internal power, and in a frightening burst, let loose a song of pure anguish towards the entity before you. Uriel hardly flinched from the assault, but it seems your attack has compelled it to keep on speaking.

"Thou hast defiled this most glorious domain of Our Lord Most High. Tell thou, children of Scarlet, what hast led thee to do a thing vile as this?" The mechanical horror intones once more. "Tell no lies. For thoust heart shall bring the truth before Our God Almighty."

"[Don't fuck this up, Orange. I *don't* want to be on the receiving end of another attack.]" Blue turns to you, seeming both pissed off and...hesitant?

"I concur with our Blue Allie, my boy. This is a powerful threat we're faced with." Blackwood speaks up as well. "I would not want to risk angering it more than it already has been."

What shall you say to the entity before you?

"Blorble, blorb-blorb, blorble." You speak to the mechanical terror before you, who stills in the air.

"...Perhaps thou speaketh truth.speaketh Unknowing wandering of the domain of God Almighty has grown ever more...common."

Uriel shudders with some emotion that you cannot place and seems hesitant for a moment, before straightening again.

"...Yet I can allow thou to go no further. Even if thou speak the truth, thou are still blasphemies in the eye of God and His Kingdom. But let it not be said that we in His service are nothing other than merciful. I shall allow thou the first strike."

Uriel stills in the air, awaiting your next move. Almost eagerly. As if it's anticipating the attack itself. Shall you indulge it?

"Thou are more than fallen. Thineself, thy kin, and all that thou have touched are tainted beyond all hopes of salvation. Only the eternal fires of Hell await thine souls, and I would be all too willing to be thine guide." For but a mere moment, you can almost *feel* something that might be genuine 'delight' in Uriel's tone, before it fades just as quickly as it came.

You quickly begin sharing instructions with Blackwood, Stephen and Purple across Blackwood's psychic link, and whilst they give you affirmative, you don't know if you'll be able to distract Uriel much longer.

"Thine very presence here is an affront to the Lord Our God, and as such, thou art to be destroyed and thine souls dragged to the deepest pits of Hell for thy sins." Uriel monotones, mechanical voice warbling. "Enough distractions. Thou art a sinner, and Our God is great and merciful. Praise His Name and be undone by His light!"

Uriel raises a mechanical claw, and above the opened palm coalesces a shining ball of blinding light, shining brilliantly in all its terrible glory as it grows and rises further upwards. The mere rays of it that glance over you leaving sizzling burns along your body from how potent it is.

The Light rises high into the air, swirling and swelling into a vast and terrifying sphere of chaotic energy, as Uriel rises into the center of the mass.

"Fall now, as the grace of God descends upon thou! Feel His eternal love and compassion as thou plummets into the pits of Hell! May His light shine forth forevermore!"

The light condenses toward Uriel, flowing into it as it raises it spreads its arms wide. Behind you, you can hear the tell-tale sign of a portal snapping open. Seems your friends might come through after all.

"Feel God's divine blessing and be erased! By the Lightning of God, begone!"

The light explodes outwards from the entity, basking everything in a radiant burst of thunderous energy, all of it crashing down towards you. With how much energy is streaming down at you, you barely have time to register something yanking you back as the lances of crackling power fall all around.

You can only stare blankly forwards at the steadily-fading mouth of a rift between realities, as you see a horrific light still shining all the way back there. Behind you, you can detect the presences of all your friends alongside you, along with the person who risked themselves to save you.

"[Next time Orange, don't stare unflinchingly into a motherfucking deathray, okay? Not sure if I'll be able to save your candied ass again if you do.]" You hear the tell-tale voice of Blue, though instead of a growl or grumble, it's full of...genuine mirth?

You turn around with a huge grin plastered on your face, and hug Blue, who seems very surprised at said intimate action, with him almost losing his grip on you. Turning your attention away some (but not letting go of Blue), you look around you at where you are now, and see that you're in a warehouse of some kind. Huh. You hadn't even noticed that you'd stopped traveling until it happened.

You blorble out rather casually, beaming at him for a moment, before you actually realize what you just said, and Blue does himself. He seems kinda stunned honestly.

>Your bond with Blue has grown (D+)! You feel as though you're starting to learn more about your counterpart now. But you still have a lot of work on that front if you want to establish a lasting bound, no doubt about it

Following behind Blue, you take the time to look around and completely confirm that yes, this is in fact a warehouse interior. Dusty, worn-down and immensely rusty tools and machinery all stand out to you as signs that this place has been long abandoned.

Catching up with your counterpart, you overhear the current conversation between Stephen, Purple and Blackwood.

"I had not at all expected the Network to be so dangerous. I thought that it would be possible for us to use it to arrive at our destination faster and safer with a pre-planned route."

"Seems to me, my lad, that it was not entirely clear of the uncouth sort who prey on trespassers."

"[Indeed. Seems we're going to have to continue the rest of the way on foot. Which will not be an easy task to-oh, hello Blue, hello Orange. I assume that you have questions.]"

"Blorble! Blorble borb-borb? Blorble-blorble? [Yes! What was that thing back there? And where are we?]" You bounce up and down the ground a bit, somewhat impatient.

"That my friend, was a demon." Stephen chooses to respond. "A powerful force with its roots in the state of human observation. And powerful that one was indeed. A direct servant to a force beyond all comprehension."

"As for where we are? I want to say somewhere in Oklahoma perhaps, within a long-since abandoned warehouse that's prone to extensive dogfights from time to time." The mysterious man chuckles, and his glasses glint somewhat.

"And I mean dogfights in the immensely literal sense, my friend."

"Blorble?" You decide to inquire about what Stephen can give you regarding these demons and if he has some manner of booklet on them, whilst still trying to create another crystal as a gift to your friends.

"I believe that I may indeed have some that may help you. Please hold."

In but a mere moment, a flash of light encompasses the area, before a sheet of papers spontaneously manifests and plops itself into your hands' as you just finish weaving a new crystal gift into existence.

>a new Skill may soon attain realization within you.

"These are some notes on demons that I've compiled over time. Please treat them well." Stephen replies, smiling.

>Notes on the Demonic acquired. You now have access to a personal log on the natures of the Demonic entities that Stephen knows about, courtesy of the mysterious man himself

"Ah, but we might not have time to go over them. It seems you have guests."

Frightening howls tear through the air at that moment, and you can hear the smashing of glass and rending of wood. This definitely isn't good.

>Roll a 3d100 for your resistance to the Ithaeur's howl

The walls shatter and crumble around you, as a rather large (and very very angry) trio of wolves smashes into view right in front of you, growling and snarling as they begin to advance towards you. And you're certain that your sudden appearance in their territory probably hasn't worked to endear you to them in any way.

You manage to push through the haze threatening to cloud your mind, shaking it off as you look around and see the others doing the same. As you look in front of you again, you can see that the wolves seem almost taken aback by the fact that you're still standing. Guess they weren't expecting you to shrug it off.

A larger, bulkier wolf shifts in past the approaching trio, its coat somewhat darker and large scars run down its frame. It howls once, and the other three wolves join into that howl, their confusion and apprehension disappearing. And then they charge, with the largest in the lead, and barreling right towards you with fangs bared, as the other three move for your friends.

The large wolf speeds it's way toward you, snarling and snapping. You don't have much time before it falls upon you.

What are your plans for attack?

>Coat the battlefield in slippery ice after sending a short telepathic warning of course. This way the environment would be to their disadvantage as most members of our team are capable of flight and they presumably aren't
"Blorble! Blorb! [Get ready to fly!]" Your voice spreads across the telepathic link to all of your allies, who each give their own affirmative to your warning.

You raise a limb with your Dream Trinket clutched within it, start channeling power from within your frame, and set it loose. A sudden flash of frigid white light spreads out and envelops the battlefield, freezing the floor solid beneath you, and sending the large bounding wolves skidding and yipping across the floor in surprise.

As the greater wolf-beast crashes to the ground and starts sliding towards you, you shift your form into an avian state and take into the air, as Blue and Red do the same, with Spanko carrying Blackwood with him as he flies upwards. You note however, that Stephen seems to have completely disappeared from the area.

The wolves that had come in are still slipping and sliding across the newly-frozen ground, though the largest has taken to wrenching its claws deep into the frost to hold itself upright, and will likely soon be followed by the other three. And as the four wolves growl and snarl whilst glaring upwards at you, five more barrel into the area, though they stop just short of sliding across the ice.

As you fly about the air, you can clearly see a flash of reasoning flare across each of the wolves as they turn to each other for a short moment, and the largest proceeds to crouch low to the ground, body tensing as if it's prepared for something. An attack of some form?

"Blorble-borb!" You flit around the air for but a moment as you relay a psychic order to all of your allies, before beginning to channel energy through your currently-avian form. And within but a few seconds, you unleash all that energy just as the great wolf leaps up to try and tear you apart.

https://youtube.com/watch?v=ZXt1rbs-ttM

A song of blistering flame and freezing ice spirals downwards and slams into the offending wolf, sending it flying back and crashing along the ice, cracking and breaking it apart under the bulk of the beasts form. An attack that is quickly joined by several others, courtesy of Purple, Blackwood, and (to your surprise) Red. Even the the other wolves reel from the bleedoff from the attack, yipping and growling as they leap away from the center of your massed attack. The ice along the ground melts and bubbles away, becoming a pool of boiling liquid with a particularly large wolf caught in the center of it, howling and crying out in pain even as it makes to leap back to its packmates.

Across from you, you watch as the largest and most wounded of the wolves limps back to its companions, its fur outright burnt and melted off in some places all as its body continues to sizzle with heat from your combined attack.

The large creature and its packmates snarl and turn towards you, a motion that you and your companions respond to with glares of your own. In turn, you can hear a near audible crack of flesh and bone as the wolves haunches start rising in clear rage.

At least, up until a voice breaks the standoff before it can escalate anymore.

"Enough." A young, male voice intones, voice light compared to the snarls in the air, but the order present in the voice is made quite clear.

>Shout "Who are you?" and look for where the voice came from.
>Blorb inquisitevely and land somewhere there we could see the source of the voice
"Blorb? Blorb-blorb?" You question, and land on an undamaged pile of boxes and begin to look around for the source of the voice.

"I concur, my lad. Who goes there?" Blackwood shouts out, followed by a loud "CACK" from Spanko and murmurs from Blue, Purple and Red in agreement, as they all land on the ground themselves

"Clearly, the only sensible one in this entire Pack." From a corner of the room, a figure casually walks in, long furred hood pulled over them, obscuring a good portion of their face. "I just couldn't leave you alone for two minutes could I, Fangs-Chasing-Shadows? You just had to go on this Hunt, didn't you?"

The largest wolf growls, baring its fangs, and you watch as the patches of melted flesh and exposed skin steadily heal over, new fur and muscle replacing what was lost. And as soon as you see the damage being undone, the large wolf begins to shift and revert before your eyes, leaving only a tall, muscled young man before you, garbled only in some brown pants. His upper body has a large scar torn across it, and his face is a display of rage as he stalks over to the young man who interfered with the battle.

"The Hunt was going well until you showed up, Runs-With-Blades. It was all in control-" the taller male snarls before getting cut off with a raised hand.

"Was it? Because from what I saw, you very nearly got a good portion of our pack slaughtered by six unknown spirits of some considerable power." The youth counters. "One of which, I'll have you know, flash froze the entire battlefield and hit you with an attack potent enough to send even *you* reeling from the force of it." The male gestures towards you on your perch as he recounts that part of the battle to his compatriot.

The other man looks like he's about to shout out his own retort, but is again silenced by a raised hand.

"How exactly would you have me explain to the elders that you got several of our pack members killed on a fruitless hunt against spirits beyond their ability to combat? Because I can see no nice way in explaining that. You didn't even know their Banes."

The hooded individual ceases to lecture his fellow and instead begins to walk over to you and your group, a desire for answers clear on his face. How do you intend to handle this?

"Blorble! [Hiya!]" you wave at the approaching youth, gurgling a greeting, before shifting into the form of a (very, very orange) cat, whilst mentally signaling for someone to communicate your lack of maliciousness. He doesn't seem to react to the change in form, which might be a good thing, but you can't really tell.

"[Greetings, and we'd like to say that we were simply defending ourselves from attack.]" Purple takes up the task of communicating with the boy, though he mostly stays himself from getting too close, a wise move in all likelihood. "[We had no intention of killing them, and we were going to fly away upon the opportunity presenting itself.]"

"Yeah, I can definitely see that much as being 'true'." the boy sighs, his voice sounding flat and dead to you. "Judging from what I saw back there, if you really wanted to, you could've easily killed Fangs and my other packmates right from the get-go. So I don't think you were going for killing them."

"That still doesn't explain why you're in our territory though." the boy's voice seems to grow even colder and somewhat vicious. "Especially since we didn't have any notice or awareness of spirits of your strength anywhere near this area."

"[That's because we just got here.]" Blue chooses to explain. "[We certainly have no intention of sticking around, and we will gladly go on our way if you'll let us.]"

The boy looks at you all for a long hard moment, face blank. And soon enough, he cracks a smile. Its small, and it doesn't quite reach his eyes, but it's there.

"Yeah, I can definitely see you as just passing by, especially since you haven't done anything with the local loci far as I can tell." He chirps out, voice not quite as cold. "But I can't just let you run off just yet. Especially since there's really no guarantee that Fangs won't call the Hunt back on once you leave my sight. We'll bring you over to the elders, and make sure you're something we can let go."

He motions to the other wolves, and there of them saunter up and take to circling around you somewhat, before stopping and shifting into human forms, two males and one female. Though you note that they're still snarling at you.

"You can consider us your chaperones for the time being!" the hooded boy claps. "Though a more accurate term might be 'wardens', but we're no Iron Masters or the like, so don't take it too harshly."

"So! Any objections to this?"

>''None at all, as a demonstration of our goodwill we will play along as long as you keep behaving nicely that is...
>You can call me Orange by the way, what's your name?''
"Blorble! Blorble-blorble blorb blorb. [No objections here! So long as you keep playing nicely. That Song of Fury was just a demonstration after all.]" You chirp back, having your friends translate your blorbs for you to get your point across. "[Anyway, you can call me Orange. What's your name?]"

A flash of something that you don't quite catch goes across the boy's face at your thinly-veiled threat and question, before he snaps back to his 'cheerful' disposition.

"Runs-With-Blades, though that's just my deed name. Though for a lot of wolves, that's the only name they like to be referred by, such as Fangs over there." You hear a loud and not at all disguised growl from the individual in question. "If all goes well, you might be allowed to refer to me by my human name. But again, that's if all goes well with the elders."

"[Y-You're really g-going t-to be taking us to your pack?]" Red asks, voice fearful but curious. "[I-Isn't that d-dangerous for y-you?]"

Runs-With-Blades shrugs at the question, face more or less expressionless.

"If there's a problem, then I'm sure that the pack can deal with it." he responds, voice calm and pleasant, but clearly laced with aspects of a threat. " Anyway, I think it's time to go now. No use in delaying proceedings any further. Especially since Fangs over there might get even more pissed off if we don't hurry it up."

You watch as the hooded youth turns to deal with the angry and snarling wolf-man storming up to him with clear amusement painted on his face, as the other three wolves start herding you towards the convenient 'exit' they tore into the warehouse and then outside. You go mostly peacefully, though you can tell that the present wolves don't like you no matter how much Runs-With-Blades tries to hide it, and your friends don't quite like them (with you mentally having to calm Blue down to keep him from lashing out). As you are being led out, Runs-With-Blades manages to mostly diffuse his compatriot's temper and follows in beside you, along with the rest of his pack-members who have now switched back to human form.

Things certainly aren't looking all that good right now. But you're absolutely sure that you'll all make it. You've been in worse situations, and this isn't like anything you haven't faced before. After all, it's just a meeting with a bunch of wolves. Just how hard could that be?

A lot of their problems come from the fact that they're half-spirit, and more than a few aspects of their culture are heavily divorced from any degree of human mindset. As such, you get basically an entire culture of monstrously powerful individuals who view humans with utter apathy at the best of times.

You can try to cool them down, but it's going to be a long and drawn out struggle every step of the way.

The Pure don't really 'lack' Luna's blessing. Wolves just have a Ban far as I can tell. But because they perceive Luna as being the source of all their woes, they've gone mad and fully intend to fuck over everyone and everything that they can.

The only other group of wolves worse than they are would be the Bale Hounds. And at that point, it's difficult to tell if they even count any more.
