You sit on the floor of your room in the Inn. The map Kalim gave you is open before you showing the basic floor plan of the evil wizards' lair. In your mind you start planning your attack strategy. You have 5 allies now; your companions: Ulric and Alina and your 3 hirelings: Godor the summoner/warrior, Shawel the elementalist, and Shornas the necromancer. The enemy force (as far as you know) has 7 members who are dangerous wizards and numerous undead soldiers. One of them had a hand cannon, they might have more. There could be traps. They could be plan ning a counter offensive. They might have a large stock of support potions. Lots of factors to consider.
Your puzzling is interrupted by a knock on the door, Ulric let's himself in, with a letter in his hand.
Ulric: "Christof, I was just at the garrison. Salaman is gone, he left this for you."
He hands you the envelope.
>"Thanks..."
You tear open the envelope, firstly a ring falls out of it. The Ring of Deflection you equipped to Salaman a while back. You pocket the magic item and move on to the brief letter.

To Christof.

I am travelling to castle Malgrave alone. If your Wish Granter is there I will not steal it from you. Give my regards to Ulric and Alina.
Farewell.

-Salaman

You fold the letter in half and toss it aside.
Ulric wordlessly leaves the room and shuts the door.

Back to the strategy. You can either attack at day or night. At night you might be able to sneak attack them (although last time their diviner was able to detect you) but at night it will be harder to spot any of their traps. Day time would make things easier but the enemy will definitely see you coming.
There are several points of entrance: A front entrance with a portcullis, an elevator, a few side doors (that can be barred from the inside) and a drainage pipe leading into the basement. The portcullis and elevator are each operated by a winch that is turned by animated skeleton arms. Your hireling Shornas can control the Portcullis and elevator with his command undead spell. You have three potions that will protect its user from death magic, you plan to give one to Ulric, Alina, and yourself.

>Day time raid
Undead can "see" at night, that puts us in a serious disadvantage.

>Break down a side door
The elevator is a potential suicide. And I would like to avoid going to close to the water, it may be something there waiting for us.

>Other strategic decisions
You Alina and Urlic should drink Death Immunity Potion at the start of the mission, when approaching the enemy base. Don't wait until you confront the necromancer to do so.

Ask your new companions for opinions, they may have some good ideas.

Talk with Ulric , ensure the he will not "Oh no I am killing someone, and that is bad!" or "But the kids, we can attack, they are using human shields!". This a serous situation and he must understand that difficult decisions must be obeyed quickly and without hesitation. Of course you are going to do all you can to rescue all the prisoners alive, but in this circumstances some collateral damage may be inevitable.

Talk to Alina, she is mostly okay, but she must not let her newfound ribality with the wizard with the hand cannon disrupt the teamwork.

Also, ask the halberd guy if he has a side weapon for indoors combat.

We still have like 300 local coins, right? Ask if we someone feels that we need more supplies.

Ask the necromancer about fish/aquatic undead.

After you finish your planning you visit your allies. First you approach Ulric in the downstairs tavern.
>"May I join you?"
Ulric: "Sure."
You take a seat on the stool next to him.
>"The people we're about to fight are the worst of the worst. They kidnap and experiment on innocent people."
Ulric looks at you with understanding.
Ulric: "Don't worry Christof. I'm prepared to do what I have to."
>"Without hesi-"
Ulric: "Without hesitation!"
>"Good to hear. Make sure you drink your death potion at the start of the operation, not when Azahl shows up."
You stand up and start to walk away.
Ulric: "Hey don't worry, we'll win. I know it."

Next you visit Alina in her room.
Alina: "Hey Christof."
>"Hey Alina, I feel like you have a bit of a rivalry going on with that guy with the hand cannon."
Alina: "What? No way. he's a chump."
>"heh okay. Just remember to choose who you attack based on tactics not based on how you feel."
Alina: "When have I EVER done that?"
You recall when Salaman sided with his sister and Alina immediately attacked him but don't bring it up.
>"Okay okay calm down."
Alina: "You can count on me Christof. Trust me."
>"By the way, you should know Salaman's skipped town."
You hand her the folded letter but she doesn't take it.
Alina: "Look, I don't *hate* Salaman, but I don't want to think about him right now. Thanks for letting me know."
>"Okay then, goodnight."
Alina: "Goodnight Christof."

Next you approach Godor.
Godor: "Christof, sir!"
>"You don't have to call me sir. I just wanted to know if you have a side-arm for that halberd."
Godor: "Yes, one short sword."
>"Good, we might be fighting indoors a lot."

And finally you ask Shornas about aquatic undead.
Shornas: "Pardon?"
>"What's the likelihood of there being aquatic undead in the lake."
Shornas: "Probably very low."
>"But it is possible to make zombie fish right?"
Shornas: "Yes."
Based on his very short responses and inability to make eye contact you while you speak you decide to just leave him alone.

Before we head off tomorrow are there any supplies we might need?
Godor: "Strength potions? Necromancers tend to drain your strength."

>Buy strength potions (5) (100 Talons)

You purchase some strength potions and rope for the mission.
You lead your team to the cave before the hidden valley. You, Ulric and Alina drink your protection from death potions. Everyone except Shornas drinks a potion of strength. Godor casts Summon Monster III twice summoning two humanoid warriors with similiar equipment to himself. You proceed in through the cave.
Shawel: "Stop. I sense something."
Alina casts dispel magic. It's an alarm! She dispels the trap.
>"Whoever set that will eventually notice it's gone, we must hurry."
Your squad hurries off into the valley and the base quickly comes into sight.
>"Quickly to the side entrance!"
You sprint around the lake towards the side door. An armoured figure emerges atop the watch tower and blows into a horn. Everyone knows you're here now. Next he hurls a fireball upon you. The attack screeches towards you but awkwardly slows down and fizzles out before it can collide.
Godor: "Stay close. My magic resistance will protect you."
Skeletal soldiers start streaming towards you only two between you and the door. You crush one with your hammer and the other is paralysed by Shornas' Halt Undead spell. You've reached the door but about 7 Skeletons are closing in. You start pounding down the door with your warhammer as your allies form a protective wall arround you. Particularly Godor who has summoned another warrior and formed a small shield wall with them.
The power of your hammer combined with the boost of the potion of strength lets you crash through the door. You race inside. You've entered the base.

>"Can you dispel it later."
Shawel: "Yes"
>"Do it"
Shawel waves his hand and a white sheet of ice emerges from the floor blocking the corridor.
You take the opportunity to destroy as many skeletons as possible as they try to meander in through the busted entrance.
The ones that are able to enter melee range keep getting paralysed by Shornas and struck down by Godor, Ulric and Alina.
A sizzling and steaming noise comes from the icewall. Someone is trying to melt it from the other side. Shawell keeps trying to reinforce the wall with more layers to buy you more time.
But then.
Arhan: "Dispel Magic."
The entire ice wall vanishes at once. Standing behind are four of the enemy spellcasters.
Arhan: "Ha! I didn't think you'd actually show up Uthanian."
Drezor: "You must pay for taking Ikara from us."
Thezax: "En guard."

Which enemy do you want to prioritize first?

(Sorry for the wait)

>"Ulric hold the door. Everyone else, kill the wizards. Aim for the purple one."
Ulric moves to block the door solo while Godor and his summons move to the front.
Arhan starts moving back and casts Immunity to Weapons[Crushing] on himself.
Arhan: "You cannot harm me weakling."
Alina casts Dispel Magic removing his protection and you slam him with a crushing blow.
Thezax casts Flaming Sphere, a molten orb appears before him and starts to roll into your midst. Shawel casts Water Blast, a jet of water blasts from his hand destroying the flaming sphere.
Godor dives forward and stabs Arhan with his short sword.
Shornas casts Enervation, a red bolt of baleful energy strikes Arhan and he stumbles back.
Arhan: "NO! Protect me you maggots."
Drezor casts Ghoul Touch and jabs Godor with a palm strike. Godor is paralysed and the spell emits a wave of carrion stench sickening everyone.
Uphi leaps into a forward flip and lands behind your party next to Ulric and Alina.

Make Shawel make another ice wall to separate us from the other 3, focus solely on her until she is down. The others will either flee(Arhan) or attempt to pierce the wall, but it will too late. If Godor is too far away, tell him to use the summons to carry him closer or protect him for a while.

Uphi casts Vampiric Touch and flurries Alina with her fists. Twice in one instant, Alina has her life essence drained increasing Uphi to well above her max health.
Ulric: "Alina!"
Alina: *weakly* "Keep holding the door."
You stop attacking Arhan to deal with the necromantress.
>"Shawel Ice Wall!"
Shawel quickly produces another wall of Ice seperating the Uphi from her allies. In a bit of bad timing Shornas tries to cast enervation on Arhan but it's blocked by the newly formed ice wall.
You and Godor's minions charge in at attack Uphi, she's unarmoured but she's nimble not to mention her natural vitality has been engorged by the life she stole from Alina.
Drezor: "What are you doing fool!? Remove the ice wall!"
Arhan: "Shut up maggot I NEED my health potion"

You push her back with your continual attacks. Godor quickly recovers from paralysis and joins the assault. Outnumbered and outreached she can barely defend herself and her injuries are piling up.
Once again the icewall is dispelled. A Scorching Ray from Thezax stikes Shawel, followed by a Magic Missile from a scroll held by Arhan. Drezor lunges forward and Vampiric Touches Shawel. He falls to the grounds injured but still alive.
Thezax: "Quick! Destroy the hyrdomancer."
Shornas casts Enervation on Arhan.
Arhan: *panicking* "Wha- what's happening-"
The glowing white of his eyes fade and he falls over backwards. Death by negative energy overload.

Even with Arhan down, Shawel is in trouble but if you move to help him now Uphi might be able to slip away.

You quickly toss a potion of greater healing at Shawel, it shatters and immediately envelopes him in a healing mist.
Thezax: "He's healing stop him!"
Drezor casts Bestow Curse, cursing Shawel with immunity to healing.
Alina casts Remove Curse removing the curse the seconds it's bestowed.
You activate your scroll of summon monster IV summoning a Brute, it starts cloberring Uphi with its fists.
You then dash in in front of Shawel to protect him from his aggressors.
Drezor: "They have too much defensive magic, we need the master!"
Thezax: "Flee before he's able to wall us in!
Drezor and Thezax burst through the door to the kitchen and flee leaving their remaining ally behind. The remaining skeletons have retreated as well.

Uphi lowers her guard and closes her eyes.
Uphi: "Make it quick."
(You know as a necromancer she's one of the main perpetrators of the extremely unethical experiments and kidnappings. Also killing her will send all of her undead soldiers out of the enemies control. Not much point in sparing her unless you want something from her.)

I understand your POV but I just don't want to take the story in such a dark direction. Even if slaying the clones makes sense. Although Christof doesn't know, the children and the magic used to make them are not inherently evil. The children are also much younger chronologically than they appear.

Although she deserves no mercy. You decide to simply knock her unconcious for now, in case the rabid undead hurt one of the clone children or one of the prisoners.

If we chase we will just run into a trap / more wizards

I say we go into the morgue and set fire to everything then to prison to free who we can and maybe get support from the ones who can fight. Then to the hatchery with more burning then the alchemists lab to steal potions then we can come up to rescue the children. (If im reading this map right)

The fire will burn from the bottom up and bring the whole place down. The confusion and danger the fire will cause will help us (the insurgents)
>>
>>3178425
Take her downstairs with us and lock her in the prison. If she burns to death by the time we get to the children the undead who turn hostile will add to the confusion
>>
>>3178434
This is a good idea. We also have some oil to start the fire, if the alchemy lab is lacking.

This place is made almost entirely from solid stone, You wont be able to burn it down, but you can destroy whatever nefarious materials they have in their morgue.
You have Uphi tied up and have the Brute carry her. You have Ulric heal all physical injuries and then you descend into the basement. Just as the map shows there's a morgue first door to the left. Inside there are several coffins and receptacles for bodys, a table and some sort of disgusting maggot farm. You use your two remaining oil flasks to cover the flammable material in the room. you throw in a torch and close the door.
You proceed on to where the prison is supposed to be but the corridor simply leads to a dead end with writing on the wall labelling it as a prison.
You feel around for hidden buttons and levers but nothing seems to open it. If the prison is on the other side of this wall you have no idea how to get through.
A floating eye ball floats into your view and starts staring at you and your party. The diviner! Alina shoots the eyeball down but you suspect they now know your location.

It didn't occur to me how unusual a 100% stone structure is. My brain must of been on Minecraft logic mode. Maybe the floor was constructed out of wood and converted into stone using alteration. Maybe the structure wasn't built but carved from a massive stone by spamming the Stone shape spell. A WIZARD DID IT OKAY.
