The year is 2001. The planet known as Earth, the only planet in the Universe that sustains life, is in ruins. Since the end of the Great War, several allied nations had agreed upon merging at the behest of the Lodge, a secret organization that ruled the allied nations as a shadow government from behind the scenes. USA, Great Britain, France and the British satellite states merged to become the United World Dominion, a nation that promised to bring peace and prosperity to all of mother Earth through democracy and the power it bolstered. Many European, African and Asian countries subsequently entered defensive pacts with the UWD, whether by consent or under the threat of force by the UWD's colossal military. The UWD was opposed by the newly arisen Soviets and Nazis, who along with their Imperial Japanese and Chinese allies, swore to protect the world's independence against the 'singular world government' the UWD would try to usher in.

It took until the 90s since the cold war began in the 40s for the UWD and the Soviet-German-Japan-China alliance to finally reach their boiling points and descend into conflict. Nuclear weapons struck major capitals while cities burned, and all around the globe were millions of soldiers and civilians scrambling as everywhere became a battleground. The World War had destroyed society as all knew it, and before long, millions were dead. People began to despair. And so in the aftermath of the War, the great horns of the apocalypse were blown from the sky above. The skies and Earth were cracked open, and from them came the Angels and the Demons, seeking to bring salvation or corruption to what life remained on Earth.

You are Jane Rayner, a promising young girl from Great Britain with a broken leg trying to make it in this world today. Who but God knows lied ahead for you in this terrible future?

You tell Sullivan that finding the map is imperative for him and that other things can be left for later. He agrees.

You descend into the building the map was lost in via a parking garage at it's lowest level. The garage is smelly, and inside there are few cars for most of the space is taken up by garbage that even buries some vehicles, piles of disgusting garbage and rubble. There was little light in the garage except for some shining in through the massive gnash in the walls.

"It... should be in here somewhere." Sullivan tells you. "I'll look around near the opening in the wall, you should try looking somewhere else."

There is a few doors in the garage, two of which lead to higher levels in the building. There is a door leading to a janitor room, a door leading to a security office, and a door going to the subway station underground. You can see flies gathering near the door of the janitor room, there is smoke coming out of the subway door and an aroma of candles....

As Sullivan begins to conduct his own search for the map with a flashlight in hand, you move closer to the sinister door and see a crimson light from behind the smoke. It unnerves you greatly, and now you can hear shuffling from behind the door as well as giggles. You peek inside and see the subway down some stairs, the crimson light illuminating it entirely.

You almost felt as if this door was beckoning you.... but the beckon did not seem like a friendly one....

With your hand on the trigger of your weapon, you walk down to the subway station through a small set of stairs.

You feel an... evil presence in the abandoned subway. The air is polluted with an intoxicating stench, the floor is damp in some places with a red, drying liquid. There is a chilling clicking and all around you are voices speaking in obscure, hushed tones, some even muttering your name.

And at the forefront of everything in this dead place, there is something laying out in front of you. The crimson smoke in the air swirls around it.

It is none other than a conspicuous red velvet devil's food cake, missing a section of itself. But why a cake? Why here in this dreadful subway?

A groan comes from the cake. "Really? That's the best you could come up with? You're corny even if you weren't dumb enough to fall for the bait, lady!"

The cake implodes into the crimson smoke and before you stands a lean humanoid with nigh anorexic features in a black and white suit. Their head was contained inside a metal mask in the likeness of Baphomet. They wielded a pentagram staff.

"Greetings, Jane Rayner! I am Beelzebub, one of the Lords of Hell and the Ling of Flies. Charmed." The demon Beelzebub reaches into his pocket and extracts a slip of parchment, waving it around. "Looking for this map by chance? He asks before he puts it back into his pocket.

"Well guess what, you cannot have it. You cannot have it, unless you can offer me something in return. I know you would really like to have it, so what's your offer? I will take almost anything as the chief bargainer under Lucy." Beelzebub says.

"Oh ho ho ho ho!" Beelzebub gives out. "So eager to bargain with a demon? Don't you know this is considered a nigh unforgivable sin in the eyes of the Angels?"

Your nose bleeds then as you feel nausea, a sickening pull at your forehead almost makes you vomit. You feel violated, as if your mind itself was just invaded temporarily, probed for knowledge. The demon before you makes excited noises from behind it's mask.

"Well a free soul is a free soul, and any soul ripe for the taking is right to take. Here, sinner, you've earned this." Beelzebub remarks as he tosses the map to you. "You don't feel anything over it, do you? Having taken that innocent life I mean. And all because they aren't human anymore, changed by a side effect of a human invention. It's prejudice, must have been awful for them, they didn't even get to live to see their sweet sixteen!. Ah, well, don't dwell on it, I'm sure you'll get used to doing it in the future to come, lady. Well I guess I should get going, need to go collect that free soul from that little scraptown full of so many innocent little humans!"

"Oh, by the way, you're going to Hell! Hah hah hah hah hah hah!" Beelzebub says as he dissipates into the crimson mist, disappearing.

You have a bad feeling all of a sudden.

You feel guilty over having dealt with a demon, his departing message does not leave your mind and him going to the Circle makes you panic. Running back up the stairs, you find Sullivan picking through an old cigarette machine, he looks to you in surprise. "Find anything?"

You hand him the map and tell him that getting back to the Circle is urgent. His head turns in confusion as he listens to you, and his expression becomes changes drastically as you admit that you had to deal with a demon to obtain the map, you could practically hear his heart's beating increase as you told him you believed it was going to the Circle, and that you should both return immediately.

He wastes no time in grabbing your arm and pulling you along as he sprints out of the building, you pushing yourself to keep up as you both cross the bus, the creep hissing at the both of you as you run down the road to the settlement...

But you are too late, Beelzebub has already came and went from the Circle.... Now you can see flames alight on the shacks, the walls to the place destroyed and the guard towers collapsed....

You follow Sullivan, running through sparks of red and small flames dancing on the ground, rushing to his shack which is up in flames. You see him trying to find some way in to no avail as the burnt walls are blocked by fire.

"POPS!" He shouts in desperation. His father was unconscious inside the shack, collapsed on the floor, and the flames were slowly approaching him...

You take off the police jacket and begin to fan the flames before you, trying to smother them with the durable leather, which works to make them die down a little. You shout to Sullivan to use this opportunity you've provided and he wastes no time jumping over the flames to grab his unconscious father, jumping out right after with Pops on his shoulder.

All around you the Circle burns to the ground, and despite the best efforts of the settlers and guards, the Circle's population has lost their farm, general store, inn, walls and watch towers. The rest of the buildings have suffered damage and most of their contents are destroyed. There are still small fires burning in mostly unimportant places, but the majority of the Circle's settlers have gathered at it's center. Noticing this, you and Sullivan make your way over as well.

The settlers are all quiet, watching Bossman with intent as he stands before his people, defeated with his head hanging low.

"Friends... comrades.... we are finished...." He speaks up. "We have lost nearly everything to the Demon that came to us.... we have little now... the Circle can no longer sustain us and soon predators will be here to pick out what remains in the rubble....."

"Where will we go now?!" One of the guards says in distress.
"There is nowhere else safe!" Another comes.
"The Nazis will kill us all!" And another...
"REPENT WHILE YOU CAN PEOPLE!" And another.....
"Mutants will be here by nightfall!"
"There is nothing to eat! We will all starve! The farm is ruined!"
"We may as well just go ahead and kill ourselves now..." Mumbles Doctor Herbert.

The people of the Circle despair, unsure of what comes next. Most are adamant that death is nigh, and some are conversing in secret, plotting desertion. Few speak of going to join the UWD Remnants, or the Nazis. Some fall to their knees and begin to pray. Bossman simply stands there, devastated as a leader and unable to care for his people. Herbert is trying to hang himself on his three feet of noose rope. Sullivan is patching up the scratches on Pops, quiet and scared. You are pondering what to do next.

Hesitantly, you walked up to Bossman and tapped his shoulder, to which he looks up to you with the bags under his eyes and crow's feet really showing from his saddened mood. He at least listens as you speak about your time at the hospital and how it could be used, but his head again falls as he sighs.

"Make no mistake visitor, I appreciate that you would like to help, but we simply cannot remain anywhere near here anymore. When night falls, mutants will be swarming this place and you cannot hide from a mutant. Even worse, the Nazis will make their way through to scavenge when they realize what happened here, and they will not cease until they have searched everything, and if it isn't the Nazis it might be the UWD Remnants." Bossman gets out in his broken tone.

You say nothing, if Bossman says that this place will no longer be safe, then he most likely speaks the truth. You go now to Sullivan and him what he plans to do now with everything gone.

"Well... most of our maps are gone, so is the paper we use to make them. I guess me and Pops will just have to go somewhere safer, if there even is somewhere safer... But we did have one place in mind we planned on some weeks ago. The mountains, the Appalachian mountains. What about you? Where are you going?"

You don't answer Sullivan, you walk back to Bossman and whisper into his ear the things Sullivan told you. His eyes light up with a glimmer of hope and he stands suddenly, making you stumble back as he declares 'THAT IS PERFECT!'.

"Vasily, get the 'boomer'." He says to his guard lieutenant.
"The boomer? Oh, you mean your megaton thingy."

The guard rushes over to their stockpile of weapons they managed to save, nearly tripping as he dug through it and hauled something around the size of a present box over to Bossman who took it from him.

"Of course, Appalachia would be ideal for us to settle, the mountains present a rough terrain that robots and mutants will not easily overcome, and with luck the Angels and Demons will not be there as Appalachia was evacuated by the military before the war to use as a testing grounds, so there shouldn't be much life there." Bossman explained as he looked over his delicate device, the 'boomer'.

"But, we cannot make it out of D.C. without getting noticed by the Nazis, they have men stationed everywhere around the outskirts of the city as part of their efforts of destroying the UWD Remnants. Before the apocalypse, the Reich had managed to invade in the 90s through Nova Scotia and Quebec with over two hundred thousand of their finest. I've no idea what numbers the Nazis must bolster now, but they must have at least a thousand or more, so they must be crippled before our large party can get through the outskirts unnoticed. This device, the 'boomer', was something I made in case we ever needed to use it for such an occasion." Bossman says.

"I must prepare my people for their little exodus, meaning that somebody will have to be the one to cripple the Nazis with this bomb. It is a simple task, it must be placed at the Pentagon and then detonated far away. The bomb itself may appear small, but it is more powerful than it looks, trust me. Now, I know it must be a lot to ask, visitor, but I believe you should be the one to do it. Everyone here, even old Grandma Abigail, has been through some grim situations out in the wastes, but they all survived in the end because they refused to give up even in the face of death. I think you could get some experience out there like they did doing this. So, will you help us out and be the one to place the bomb?"

Bossman holds the bomb to you, offering it.

"Could I have a partner to watch my back?" You ask Bossman as you take the 'boomer' from his hands and put it into your backpack. He scratches his beard for a moment.

"Oh! Oh! Oh! I will do it! I will help!" The guard lieutenant Vasily speaks up.

"Well, if you need an extra gun at your side, Vasily here has had his fair share of conflict in life, and if he's willing then you may take him as a companion." Bossman says. "Sullivan and Pops may also go with you if you would like, they know the ways around D.C. unlike any other."

"Additionally, you may take a few things from my stockpile if you wish." Bossman says, motioning you towards the cache of weapons that was saved during the fire.

Among the stockpile there was loads of ammo of all calibers, a few grenades and mines, and an anti-tank rocket weapon. There was two M16A2 assault rifles, an M60 lmg, some imported soviet Kalashnikovs, a MAC-10 and MAC-11, and a bolt action M40A1 sniper rifle.

Vasily was armed with an AK-74. Sullivan was armed with an M1 Carbine, and Pops had his sword and a Nambu pistol.

You figure you could do well to have something bigger than your revolver. You could also equip the companion(s) you take with something different as well.
