“Come on dad, keep up!” you call out, kicking forward at your father.

Goku blocks your strike, attempting to counter by jumping up and punching down. You’re able to dash back, firing a small Ki blast into the ground and setting it as a mine. But your father’s prepared for the trick, leaping into the air right as he dashes towards it, setting it off and falling down towards you with an axe kick. You’re able to block it in time, but Goku kicks you away and charges a Kamehameha. “Heh heh, not letting the title get to your head, are ya’?”

As he fires, you form a Ki Drill to block it, punching into the beam with it and dashing forward towards Goku quicker than he can react. You stop just a bit before you reach him, grinning proudly. “As if! Just means that I’ll have to work extra hard to defend it next time!”

Your dad laughs and pats your head. “Haha! That’s my girl!”

“Heh. Think this is enough of a warm-up?” you ask, stretching your arms a bit.

“Yeah, probably. Should get some food in. Maple’s still helping Bulma though, and Gohan’s with them, so it’s just us and Groucho.”

“Hey Groucho, think you’re up to cook us some lunch?” you ask the tiget. He raises his head and snorts dismissively after letting out a grumble, then goes back to his nap.

As you and your father walk back to the house, Goku asks, “Peppa, you sure you’re okay? You seemed pretty tired yesterday. That business with the ninja and Tapion still on your mind?”

You rub the back of your neck. “Eh. A little bit. I’ve been trying to take Cocoa’s advice and relax, though. But... well, I’ve also been a little worried about Gohan.”

“Why? What’s wrong?” Goku asks.

“He might be pushing himself too hard to make up for what he thinks were some mistakes. I’m glad he wants to help people, but... I just hope he’s not going too far with this. Heh, is this how mom kinda feels about uncle Acer?”

“I think it’s more the other way around.” your dad replies. “Acer was usually the one trying to keep us from doing something too crazy. But I think Gohan’s doing okay. Maple’s been watching over him, and if something was up, she’d be the first to tell us.”

Heh. Leave it to dad to see the bright side. “Guess you’re right. Though... the thing with Hirudegarn still has me a little worried too. The monster isn’t gone for good, the legs could still return. And if Gohan’s off trying to make up for things...”

“He’ll tell us.” Goku says confidently. “And we’ll stop that monster. Right?”

“Heh, yeah. We’ll kick its butt!”

Once you and Goku get some lunch in, your dad does ask, “So, you said Cocoa suggested you should relax a bit?”

“Mhmm.” you nod as you finish up your last bowl of rice. “Just... with all I’ve been doing, running around trying to figure out the whole ninja mystery and everything... I kinda needed to stop back a bit and not try to hold the weight of the world on my shoulders. Champion or not, we’ve still got lots of strong friends out there who can handle things like that. So... I should take some time to relax.” You smirk a little. “And keep up my training, too. I know you, dad, you’re not gonna let up when you know you can get stronger. So I better keep up if I wanna be able to beat you again.”

Goku laughs. “Haha! You’re already doing so well. Proud of you, Peppa.”

After a few moments... well... you figure now’s a good a time as any. “Um... actually... well, dad? How did you know that... that uh, you liked mom? As... more than a friend?”

He tilts his head curiously, then scratches it as he tries to think. “I guess... was more around the Tournament I became Champion in? Wasn’t really the best at picking up clues like that, to be honest, but she’d been there for me through a lot of stuff. Garlic Jr. attacked her and I thought she might have been...” Goku shakes his head. “It got me mad enough to go Super Saiyan for the first time. He hurt my Maple. And I had to stop him. Then when it was all over, your mom kissed me, haha! Didn’t really know how to kiss back, only saw Yamcha and Bulma do it before that.”

You giggle. “You really said ‘my Maple?’”

“Yep!” Goku admits freely. “And it just kinda went on from there. I wanted to spend the rest of my life with her, so I asked her if she wanted to do that.”

“Aww...” That’s really sweet of him... and totally how he’d ask that, too.

Goku leans back a bit. “Why you ask, Peppa? You got something like that too?”

“I...” Hoo boy, not as easy to admit as you’d thought. But here it goes. “I do have someone I care about a lot. Someone who’s close to me and who looks out for me like that. Someone I like as more than a friend... but I just don’t know if she really feels the same way.”

Goku blinks, then shrugs. “So, have you asked her?”

“I... she kinda picked up on how I felt without me really saying anything. And she said... she needed time.” You rub your face a little. “Mmnh. I... talked with Keli about her yesterday, and Keli said I was doing better than she was over that kind of thing. But... the girl I feel this way about, I still want to be her friend too. She’s important to me, and I don’t want to strain our friendship... so I’m giving her time to think this over for herself. And I guess I still need to think some things over too.” You look down and chuckle. “Heh. Got to become Champion and yet this feels like a much harder thing to do.”

Goku rubs his chin. “Well, definitely don’t push her away while you’re both trying to figure this out, Peppa. Maybe talk with her today? You’ve gotten a good amount of training in already. At least make sure she knows that you’re doing okay.”

You dash through the house up to your room, getting your phone out as you lay down on your bed, tail swaying from side to side as you call her number. You feel just a little nervous as it rings. Takes a bit longer than usual for her to pick up. But she does still pick up. “Hey Cocoa.”

“Peppa! H-hey!” she replies nervously. “...Um. Listen, uh... I still-”

You giggle. “You still need time?”

“Mhm...”

Well... it has only been a couple days. “It’s okay, Cocoa. I know it’s... awkward. But listen, you’re still my best friend. We can still like... talk normally, right?”

“...Sure.” Her voice sounds much more relieved.

“Plus, like... yesterday was still pretty crazy.” You sit up a little, looking over some of the drawings you’ve made. “We finally found out what the ninja were up to. And their fortress.”

“Wait, you did?” she asks in surprise.

“Their warrior, the plan for the Dragon Balls, everything. Boy, where to begin...?” You start to recount everything from your arrival on the Lookout. Fighting off Hirudegarn, taking the monster to Monster Island, storming the fortress with Izzy, Hoi freeing Tapion and you preventing his second wish. “...But then I kinda... remembered what we talked about the other night. About me taking some time to relax. So... I did just that. I’m not going to jump around trying to solve the world’s problems. I’ve still kinda got to grow and, you know, be a kid.”

“Thanks, Peppa.” Cocoa seems even more relieved. “It’s not that I think you should start slacking off with all of that, but... you do deserve to let yourself rest for a bit. Especially after going through all that.”

“Yeah. Well, plus, mom still had me wash my mouth out with soap for swearing at Vegeta.” You hear her start to laugh. “I’m serious! Yick, could taste it even through dinner last night.”

“Hahahahaaa... just... sorry, sorry. Just kinda... really funny.”

You sigh softly, smiling and looking out your window. “Thanks, Cocoa.”

“That’s a great idea!” Cocoa replies both cheerfully and... with what sounds like a bit of relief, too. “You gonna call her?”

“Yeah, I’ll contact her in just a bit. See you soon!” You head down to your father. “Dad, going shopping with Cocoa and Lime! Be back later!”

Goku... is still thinking, barely aware you headed down until you called out to him. “Huh? Oh, okay! See you, Peppa!” He returns to thinking. For a moment. “...Wait, is it Cocoa? Is she the...?”

You giggle. “Later dad~!”

“Haha! Okay, have fun!” Goku stands up proudly grins, glad he figured it out. “Oh, by the way, mail just came. You’ve got a lot of letters.” He points over to the table, and the small mountain of mail with your name on it. Some more standard, a few that look rather fancy. A curious one catches your eye, gold foil on the edges. Seems a little heavier than the others.

“Heh, you and mom get piles like these when you became Champions?” you ask, checking it. Huh... there’s a... golden flower inside? Is it painted gold or... no, wow, it’s natural! The letter inside simply says...

Uh. Huh. Is... is that who you think it is? “-hundred more the next day! Haha! ...Eh, Peppa?”

“S-sorry. Here, can you find a vase for this, dad?” Ooof. If it is who you think it is... well, not like they’re asking you for anything. Just giving you a gift. Bah, can think on this later.

Once you contact Lime and get the okay from her, you teleport to Cocoa first to gather her first before heading over to Lime, then take the two of them to Mifan. Lime places her hands behind her neck and looks around. “Man, that really is a neat trick, Peppa. You can just kinda teleport anywhere you want.”

“Weeeell, not really. It took years for me to learn, and I still have to lock on to a Ki signature to teleport.” You look over to the place you teleported in front of, a certain little restaurant. “Thankfully I’ve been in this area before.”

“Still pretty cool.” Lime comments. “Anyway, where to first?”

“You did mention some stuff from off-world. Is that near the spaceport?” Cocoa questions.

“Yeah, let’s head there first!” you call out cheerfully. “Come on, come on!” You start to skip along ahead of them, Lime and Cocoa running behind you. As you reach the spaceport district, and spot a few stores set up in the nearby mall.

“Wow, there’s so much stuff here!” Lime calls out excitedly, looking like a kid in a candy store. Almost literally, as you pass by some alien confectioneries. Cocoa meanwhile takes note of some interesting bits of alien fashion, spotting a few stores offering exotic dresses and what look to be some of the armors used by the PTO. There also is an assortment of curious little trinkets, everything from postcards and small souvenirs to curious little statues and good luck charms. You even spot some Namekian traders selling little Ajissa bonsai and saplings.

By this point, Lime has taken out a little notepad and has been furiously jotting things down on it. Items, prices, places of origin, every little detail she can come across. You chuckle softly as you watch her. “Um. You going to spend all your time looking these things over, or are you going to actually do some shopping?”

“I’ve got a few things in mind.” she replies as the three of you approach an alien flower shop. You do a double-take as you notice one of the sets of flowers there. One with golden pedals... and quite the price tag on them.

“Aha, I see you have found one of our bestsellers!” the merchant, a friendly-sounding lion man, tells you. “The Shining Chrysanthemum is a magnificent piece, it is quite popular among hopeful young lovers.”

You suck in air through your teeth. Oooof. “Ah, um-”

“Now I know the price may look rather high, but each flower is carefully selected through a batch on a far-off world, so only the most radiant ones are brought to market.” he adds on. “Yes yes, meant to be given to those you wish to show strong affection towards.”

You wince slightly, Cocoa raising an eyebrow as Lime looks it over. “The golden petals looks really delicate, is part of the expense in how careful they need to be when shipped?”

“Indeed, indeed. Ah, young miss, do you have someone you’d wish to give this to?”

Lime shakes her head. “Nah. Bit out of my price range anyway. Still, it’s a really pretty flower...”

You close your eyes and sigh. “Um. Sir? If someone gives you one of these, is there like, a way to ‘reply’ with a soft ‘no’ or something? One that like, won’t hurt their feelings too bad, but let them know you’re not interested?” You’re going to nip this in the bud as soon as possible. Definitely need to talk with Monty some time soon.

Lime and Cocoa both stare at you blankly as the merchant strokes his mane. “Hmm... hmm... well, the yellow carnation can mean rejected love. A withered bouquet too, though that’s a far... stronger message. Ah! I know just the one...” He goes deeper into the shop, then comes back with... a hissing, snapping plant that looks like a rose made of pure anger. “Here we go! This will be sure to get the point across! Yes yes, get across very well!”

Lime and Cocoa both hide behind you as he shows you the plant. “Aheh. Heh. You know what I think I’ll go with something a little... more tame. Thank you, sir! Have a nice day!”

“Same to you, young ladies!”

The three of you quickly leave the shop. Cocoa pants once she’s out of earshot of the clerk. “I swear to god that thing was about to ask Seymour there to feed it.”

“Not... not telling gramps to get that... ha... ha...”

“OKAY! Flowers are a bust. Let’s... let’s check out some of those dresses instead. And put that whole thing behind us.” You start to walk forward, then notice Cocoa and Lime giving each other awkward looks a bit further behind you. “...What?”

“...Nothing.” Cocoa shakes her head and hurries along with you, Lime doing the same but keeping her eyes narrow.

As you reach the store, the three of you spot a variety of outfits inside. Even some forms of PTO armor made into dresses. Wow, those are pretty neat... ooh there’s a cute pink one! ...Eh, don’t know if the green shoulderpads match it though. There’s another dress like it that’s a better match for the green... bah, but it’s kinda got an ugly color. Hmm... you do see a few cool jumpsuits and the like too. Ah, and there are some pretty swimsuits, even a few local outfits that seem really cool. Oh hey, there’s one like the one Keli wears. And... wait is that a bunny outfit? Are... bunny outfits popular off-world?

Okay! First thing’s first!~ You gotta try on something a little more... local. And what could be more local than a Mifan dress~? You find one in your favorite colors, a deep, vibrant red with a black dragon with golden trim spiraling around it, and try it on. Hmm... honestly not too bad, very comfortable, but... oddly breezey. Plus seems like it’d be a bit harder to run in. Eh, you look cute in it though!~ ...Right?

“Seems a bit big on you.” Lime comments. “You’re still rather small for an outfit like this.”

You pout at her, causing Cocoa to giggle. “It doesn’t look bad, but it is... a little large on you, Peppa.”

“But there aren’t any smaller ones.” you mumble. “Bah... mom can probably help adjust it.”

You go back to the dressing room and try out the next thing that catches your eye. A cute swimsuit~! Once you’ve got it on, you leap out and hold up a V-sign. “How about this one?~”

Cocoa looks you over carefully. “Hmm... I think this does fit you a bit better. Got a very girlish pink that works a bit better.”

“Y-you think so?” you ask bashfully, smiling as you blush a little.

“The skirt works well too. But how are you fitting your tail in there?” Lime asks, looking around.

“Eheh... kinda have to pull the bottom down a bit so there’s room.” you tell her, tail swaying behind you. Lowly, you add. “Better than poking a hole in it, but it... does feel a little awkward.”

“Hmm... why don’t you go for an outfit that’s more fit for people with tails?” Lime questions. “They’ve got ladies outfits for foxes, cats, dogs, lions...”

“Never really fit for me.” you reply. “Anyway, I think I’ll be getting these. You girls see anything you liked?”

“Yeah, actually.” Lime states, hurrying into the dressing room with a few outfits. “Give me a bit...”

Once she’s done, she steps out with something with noticeable contrast to her usual maroon overalls and yellow shirt or white and black Gi. A slightly tomboyish white t-shirt, blue skinny jeans, yellow cowboy boots, and red scarf. Cocoa looks over her curiously. “...What’s the occasion?”

“Mostly just figured I could use a change of pace. Plus this looks cute. Right?” Lime asks the two of you.

“Heh, just kinda surprising. That seems more like something Bulma’d wear... but yeah, it looks good on you.” You give her a thumb’s up.

“Cool. Getting this and that bunny outfit.” Lime states as she shows you it.

“Wait what.” you reply quickly. “W-wh... bunny outfit? That... buh... W-why’d you-”

Lime just sticks her tongue out at you. “You’d be surprised how presentation can help with my line of work~”

Cocoa rubs the back of her neck, a curious and almost familiar look in her eyes. “...Rrrright. My turn?”

“Sure.” Lime responds, you still gawking slightly. Cocoa heads in with a few outfits herself, Lime giving you a teasing laugh. “What, upset you couldn’t make it work?”

You roll your eyes and pout just a little. “I mean... it’s just not your style. Usually it’s more... down to earth, you know. Like what you’ve got on here. It looks great on you, even if it is more a... Bulma outfit.”

“There we go~!” Cocoa exclaims, finally showing off the outfit she’s planning on getting. A slightly dark salmon pink and white dress with detached white sleeves, pink shorts, and black leggings. “Haha, I knew they’d have something like this in here~! Brench fashion. What do you two think?”

“I think you’re trying to be a magical girl.” Lime remarks dryly.

“Oh hush. How about you, Peppa? This look good?”

“So, thinking on switching from actress to music idol?” Lime questions teasingly.

“Hardly. But outfits like this are really useful for what I wanna do.” Cocoa replies, sticking her chin up.

“I like the frills.” you tell her, placing your hands behind your back, tail swaying behind you. “They’re super cute.”

“Thanks Peppa. I’m gonna be keeping it.”

“Hey, they’ll certainly put you in for the part when you start auditioning-” Lime starts, only for Cocoa to squint at her. “Okay, okay, I’ll stop.”

With the shopping done and your regular clothes back on, and with you down only a few thousand Zenni, the three of you take some time to sit back and relax for a bit. When you do though... you notice an awkward silence from the two of them. “...Okay. What’s up?”

“So... back at the flower shop, you uh... you kinda dropped a faaaaairly heavy couple lines there, Peppa.” Lime tells you. “Like... we’ve gotta know. Who’s sending you flowers? And you’re really ready to just... you know, say ‘no’ just like that? Like, come on, girl. He could be really nice, and he went out of his way to get you something like that? Bitey response plants aside... you sure about this?”

Cocoa seems to sink back a bit, looking down. She clearly wants to say something, but knows just how awkward it might be to just blurt it out. Might be better if you say it yourself.

Like, if I knew there might be a chance, or even if I didn’t know for sure if I’d be able to reciprocate, that’d be something else. But I’m not at all into him. As hard as it might be to crush his hopes so quickly, it would be even worse to just lead him on when I know it can never work out. I don’t want to upset him too much. So if I were to let this keep going without nipping it in the bud... it just wouldn’t be fair to him.”

As you look up, there’s this odd mixture of concern, joy... and just a little relief on Cocoa’s face. Lime though nods in understanding. “I mean. I’d certainly give him a chance. But... if you’re that sure on this, Peppa, then there’s I guess you’re right.” She scoots a little closer, nudging your arm. “...You gonna let us know what your type is?”

Cocoa looks away, gently biting her thumb. Gah. Lime. Come on. You take a deep breath. “I... I’m honestly still kinda trying to figure out some of my own feelings. But... I can say that I know where those feelings are pointing me towards. We both need time to really know for sure if there’s... something more. But that aside... I still want to be there for her.”

Cocoa hides a bit of her face with her hand. But you can see a slightly appreciative smile on her lips. Lime however doesn’t really notice. Instead, she’s focused on you completely. And... she’s a good deal less surprised than she probably should be. “...So that Basilea girl was-?”

“It’s not Videl.” you affirm. “We had a big talk about it already.”

“...A-are you gonna cut your hair short?” she asks awkwardly.

Lime. Liiiime. Please. You pout at her. “And give up this cool ponytail? As if! Girl I had to convince Videl to keep her hair long! Long hair’s great, even with the extra maintenance!”

That finally gets Cocoa to laugh. “Well, it is long enough for you to try twintails like her.”

...Twintails? For you? “Nah. Ponytail’s better. I mean, look at you, you look great with the ponytail, Cocoa!”

“Thanks...”

It gets a little quieter again, but the silence is less tense. Lime starts to ask you something else when you all notice a group of people gathered around a TV store, with even more gathering around. A few that aren’t glued to it have their faces glued to their phones. And the expression on everyone’s faces is one of shock. Cocoa brings her own phone out and gasps in surprise.

As you look at it yourself, you tense up. “...This can’t be.”

“Giant monster appears in Orange Star City...” Lime reads aloud, with the picture of it being unmistakable. “Wait... is that thing-?”

“Yeah. There’s no mistaking it. It’s Hirudegarn.”

Both of them grab on to you after putting all your purchases in a Capsule. You then lock on to Keli’s Ki and teleport away. You find her standing with Chiaotzu, Shao, and... Vegeta? The Saiyan prince gives you a brief glance before averting his gaze. You see Baozi sitting nearby, waving at you as he sees you. Chiaotzu takes note and greets you immediately. “I thought I sensed you nearby. Hello Peppa.”

“Hey. No Tien around?” you ask.

“He’s gone off to help Gohan and speak with Yurin again. Master Shen is with him, along with Lao.” the small man states. “We got the rundown already. And... ah, you...” He takes notice of Lime and Cocoa. “...Are you sure they should get involved in this?”

“We want to help. She was enjoying a nice little day off from all this stuff and now she’s getting dragged back into it.” Lime crosses her arms. “We’re helping however we can.”

Though you see Vegeta roll his eyes as he hears Lime speak, Chiaotzu understands what she’s saying. “Okay. Videl and her father’s school are currently in Orange Star City helping with the search and damage assessment. No casualties have been reported, but there’s still substantial damage done in the area it appeared.”

“We were about to get a few people out looking in the outskirts, but if it’s targeting large cities, Mifan could end up defenseless.” Keli adds in.

“Vegeta did say he’d stick around here...” Shao comments, the Saiyan grumbling. “But if we have a couple more people keeping watch, that’d at least put our minds at ease.”

“I can’t say that having the two of you assisting in the search would be the best idea.” Chiaotzu tells Lima and Cocoa rather bluntly. “Though... you both know how to sense Ki, correct?”

“Peppa taught me how, yes.” Cocoa nods, Lime giving him a thumb’s up to affirm it.

“Then if you want to help, I’d request the both of you keep watch here. It will ease some of the pressure on our search in leaving Mifan like this.”

“What, you think I can’t handle this by myself?” Vegeta grunts.

Chiaotzu shakes his head. “Not at all. You’re more than capable, Vegeta. But the more the merrier.”

“Tch. Whatever.”

Keli turns to you. “How about you, Peppa? You gonna stay here with them, or you gonna join the search with us?”

“Hey, Chiaotzu, you know where 19 might be? She could help us with the search, while remaining far less detectable than the rest of us.” you ask, looking around as you fly.

“I contacted her via Scouter a while ago. She’s close to West City at the moment, so she’ll be searching that area.” he replies. “Still, good thinking.”

“Maybe we can start to narrow the searches, set up a net to locate where the monster might be headed.” Keli suggests.

“Yeah, but we’ll need to keep an eye out for it heading towards any populated areas.” He flies a little faster as your group goes through a forested area.

Looking to Keli, you ask hesitantly, “Um... hey, I kinda need to ask. Where’s Bisa?”

Her eye twitches. Oof, well- “Probably back with his ninja buddies. Tch. That snake.” she responds lowly.

“...Sorry I couldn’t help you hold him off.”

Keli shakes her head. “No, you had your hands full with everything else going on. And that talisman he had on made him even stronger than usual.”

Talisman...? Oh, right! “Wait, so... was he being controlled by Hoi, or...?”

“Frankly I don’t know nor care at this point.” Her voice still seems pretty low and upset. “It’s Master Tien’s call.”

Chiaotzu closes his eyes. “Mm... I think it would be best for you to stay back a bit. You’ll probably pick up something we’ve missed.”

He nods grimly. “I’ll ask Tien about that soon. But we have to stay focused on this first.”

“Got it. I’ll do what I can to help.” You fly back a bit, using this as a chance to recall your fight against the lady who did use one of those Talismans. She honestly did seem like she was in control of her mind, but her body was clearly being controlled by something. And yet... you recall what Tien said happened to your mom, even she was struggling to keep herself from being controlled by one of those things. But... wait, if Keli was fighting Bisa when that happened... ‘Quick question. When you were fighting him, did he seem... off, at all?’

‘A little.’ Keli replies. ‘Was... honestly trying to fend for my life during that, so I can’t recall all the minor details.’

‘Still, did it look like he was being forced to do this?’ Agh, you really hope you’re wrong...

‘I... I don’t know. I couldn’t tell for certain. But if he wasn’t...’

You focus carefully. There’s something in the distance up ahead. It... it feels like... “Everyone’s feeling that, right?” you ask aloud.

“Ten kilometers to the west!” Chiaotzu affirms.

“Got a lock on it!” Keli calls out.

They blast forward, you trailing behind them as you feel something moving around in the distance. You also feel... uneasy. Like there should be a good deal more life in the area. Unless... oh no. Finally, the figure comes into view. A bisected monster, the bottom half leading into a swirl of mist. Hirudegarn!

Chiaotzu flies on ahead. “Got a lock on it, I’ll try to hold it-” But before he can finish, the legs leap towards him, the tail of the beast jetting forward and grabbing hold of him. The end of the tail then... opens up? What the... Woah! It’s firing out some strange tentacles of some sort. The Crane Students back away just in time, Keli throwing out some Ki blasts to hold them off.

They retract into the tail, which puts the pressure in on Chiaotzu. You power up to Super Saiyan and fly in, forming a Ki drill and slashing at the tail to try and free Chiaotzu. It works, but the monster than vanishes into mist once more... and reappears behind you, tail jolting out. It misses you initially, the tentacles coming nowhere close, but then it swings down hard and smacks you into the ground. You’re able to stand as the monster starts to flee... but you notice that around you are... the remains of animals. Most of them looking like drained out husks, as if they were completely drained away.

You telepathically contact your mom and make sure everyone knows you’ve found the monster, but that this might be a distraction. After that, you make sure Cocoa and Lime are able to get a good read on this. Though it seems to frighten Cocoa a bit, they both affirm this, but can’t sense anyone else out there with you. Well, so much for that lead. Lastly, you call out to Chiaotzu, “Someone has to be controlling this thing! Everyone, keep an eye out for whoever it might be!” You then ready a Ki drill. “I’ve got a plan for this thing.”

“Wait, what are you trying to do?” Keli calls back.

“Its tail is dangerous. I’m going to do what I can to remove it!” You power up more, hitting Super Saiyan 2 as you stare it down.

Chiaotzu looks down to you, then back at his students. “You heard her, spread out! We need to find whoever is responsible for this! I’ll help her with this, but everyone else, get searching!”

“Yes sir!” they reply, spreading out.

Chiaotzu then calls out to you as the both of you chase after the monster. “Peppa, this thing turns into some kind of mist, right?”

“Yeah. Why do you ask?” You dodge a tail strike from it, then bolt ahead as it starts to to just that.

“Wait on my signal to attack!” Chiaotzu holds his hands out... like he’s about to fire off the Tri-Beam. “And keep it close to me!”

“Understood!” As it reappears, you’re ready for it, blocking a kick from its massive leg, then holding on to it and teleporting it right below Chiaotzu. “It’s all yours!”

“TRI-BEAM...” You feel power build up in his hands... and then see a bluish light. “ZERO! HAAAA!” As the blast fires down on the monstrous legs, getting a solid hit... you notice the creature slow a little as... ice builds up around it! “PEPPA, NOW!”

“SPIRAL... BRREEAAAAKEEERR!” You blast forward to the monster’s tail, your Ki drill slamming into it and piercing through. Tearing the bottom third of it clean off! The beast falls to one knee, finally disappearing back into mist. The part of the tail you tore off too seems to disappear... though this seems more to break apart than merely vanish.

No word from anyone else finding who’s controlling it though...

“Chiaotzu, let’s go back and help them search!”

“Okay. With that thing injured, it should be a while before it’s back to full strength.” He nods and flies off, trying to cut off the escape route of whoever is in control of the monster.

You head off in another direction, sensing around and trying to smell the air for any suspicious scents. Come on, Peppa, there has to be something... wait. Wait what’s that? The smell of... bananas! And... a familiar but unsettling presence. You bolt in the direction of whoever it is. Someone... dressed in ninja garb. Of course! Wait... he looks familiar. Is it Bisa? Ah, he’s trying to run off! ‘Chiaotzu, headed due north!’

‘I see him!’ he calls out. ‘We’re in pursuit!’

‘I’ll block him off!’

It takes some careful maneuvering, but finally you, Chiaotzu, and the other Crane School students have managed to corner the individual. And... wait a second. WAIT A SECOND! “YOU!” you yell out, tugging your goggles over your eyes.

“...So I have failed.” he replies, looking at everyone around him.

“Oh don’t even think of trying that trick of yours again.” you state.

He then... brings his right index and middle fingers to his neck. “Our Lady’s dream will survive me.”

You’re about to yell out for him to stop, only for Keli to leap at him from behind and knee him in the back of the head before he builds up any Ki. She then grabs both of his hands behind his back and handcuffs them together. “Bisa you traitorous-!” Keli stops. “...This isn’t Bisa.”

“He’s the first one I ever fought. The one who tried to run off with the Dragon Ball.” You look over the ninja in blue. “I’d love to hear your excuse for this.”

He remains silent as Chiaotzu walks over. The small man tilts his head as he sees the restraints. “...Where’d you even get handcuffs, anyway, Keli?”

She looks at him blankly. She then coughs and states, “Not important right now. Look, you... is Bisa working with you?”

He’s quiet again. You cross your arms and glare. “I thought your group was trying to make peace. Explain yourself right now.”

The ninja remains quiet. Suddenly, a surge of power seems to come through him, his body convulsing. Keli pulls his hood back, revealing a talisman that she rips off immediately. The man remains on the ground once it’s off... motionless. “...He’s passed out.” Keli comments after feeling his pulse. She tosses the talisman aside. “Things just got a lot more complicated, didn’t they?”

Tien walks with you calmly as you approach the edge of the forest, the ninja frog waiting for you. Lao stands quietly beside his master, the air around him tense, but calm. Shen meanwhile walks forward, thoroughly unimpressed. “I take it you’re the one who’ll be guiding us in?” he asks, looking over the frog man. “Feh. Your posture’s weak.”

“Merely an act.” he responds. You notice some subtle movements around his body as he pulls out the jar. “Our Lady is expecting you all. And welcome back, Gohan.” His tone with you is a bit more friendly, moreso than even the last time he spoke with you.

“Thank you.” You tell the frog ninja, heading forward. You head in first, Shen following after you, then Tien, and finally Lao. Once you’re in the fortress, you see the various ninja flanking you like before, though they too seem eased a bit. Still on alert, but not as outright suspicious.

The tall, dark-skinned lady who gave you half a slice of pizza nods for you to follow her. Shen walks a good deal more casually than any of you, looking around at all the ninja. “Hmnh. Well, she did seem to take a few lessons to heart.” he comments.

“I do recognize a few things from my earlier training with you, Master Shen.” Tien states, still looking forward but clearly taking notice. “A good deal more seem to be further away.”

“While we are trying to keep things peaceful, we’re not stupid.” the lady ninja tells the two of them. “Especially with you, Tien.”

“Understandable.” He looks back to Lao. “We still have some questions that need to be answered. And you still have a choice to make.”

“Yes, master.” Lao replies, his head lowering.

“We’re here.” the ninja lady states, opening some ornate doors. Shen moves in first, followed by Tien and Lao. As you’re about to head in after then, she calls out to you. “Hey, Gohan.”

“Y-yeah?”

“When you get the chance... let your sister know I’m sorry.” she says humbly. “She might’ve been able to stop this if I didn’t hold her back.”

“I’ll do that, but hey, don’t blame yourself for all this.” you tell her with a sweet smile. “Hoi’s the one to blame for all this. And even beyond that, a lot of other decisions went into this happening. Mine too. If my sis were here, she’d probably ask that you’d learn from it and work to make the best of what’s happened. It’s what I intend to do. So let’s move forward and not try to play the blame game. It’s worked out so far, right?”

“Heh, all right. Thanks, Gohan.” She pats your head gently. “Better head on in though.”

“All right. Later!” You move in after the other three, seeing Tien standing with Shen and Lao, Yurin with her arms crossed and a bit of a glare on her face. Beside her is one of the dog ninja and... Hoi, tied to a chair. With talismans all around his head. Well. That’s... not what you were expecting.

“...I take it you haven’t gotten much out of him?” Tien asks, slightly unnerved. As you move closer you see that Hoi is... smiling, but his body seems oddly stiff.

“He’s told us quite a bit about what he plans to do with Hirudegarn.” Yurin replies, her eyes closing. “Not as helpful in telling us how to stop it.”

“It’s cute that you think you can truly stop it.” Hoi comments.

Yurin’s face twitches, and you see the dog ninja move one of the talismans. Hoi’s body seems to tense up more, only calming once it’s moved back. Tien takes a step back. “What are you doing to him?”

“Wait a moment...” Shen tells him, approaching Hoi. He looks over the talismans carefully. “Huh. This magic... Yurin, did you truly develop this by yourself?”

“After years of study and planning.” she replies quickly.

“Mm... yet it seems not all of my lessons were wasted on you.” Shen states. “Applying energy to the body’s pressure points, yes?”

“Redirecting energy. It’s mostly meant to be used for Earthlings. Hoi being an alien means we have to take more... drastic measures.” she tells Shen, opening her eyes.

“Hah, so you did take that lesson on pressure points to heart, even after all these years!” Shen lets out a laugh.

“I had to learn a lot on my own.” Yurin moves over to Hoi. “His mind is blocked, so trying to pry any information out of him has proven to be a chore.”

“Pressure points?” you speak up, your voice curious more than anything. “Ah, sorry, but... mom’s told me a bit about them before. I’m just curious, how is your magic affecting them like this?”

“Ki flows more strongly through certain points in the body.” Yurin tells you calmly. “Being able to redirect that flow of energy and use it more efficiently is what I designed these talismans to accomplish.”

“Against a more normal person, one could even knock them out for a few days by striking those points with precision. Keep their body’s energy from flowing correctly, forcing them to take a few days to recover it.” Shen adds. “Not as useful against people with greater Ki control; merely powering up slightly will get things back in line, though handy as a little surprise. My brother used to be quite experienced with such a technique.”

“You’re both leaving out the issue with this.” Tien brings up. “Overuse of it can result in the body suffering muscle degradation to an extent. Skin loses color, growth can be stunted, and in more extreme cases it can lead to paralysis of the limbs...”

“Tien I am well aware of the fact that it can cause Jiang Shi Syndrome.” Yurin tells him, glaring again. “It is something we have trained ourselves to avoid.”

“And yet you’re overusing it on Hoi to try and bring information out of him.” His three eyes narrow.

“Aww, look at you, upsetting your old friend so easily.” Hoi tells her mockingly.

“Hoi deceived us, fed us lies about the Warrior sealed in that music box, and tried to unleash a world-ending monster on the Earth!” Yurin yells out at him. “By all rights he should be paying for what he’s done, but right now we are trying to figure out how to keep this situation from getting even worse!”

“But you’re being reckless!” Tien states. “I understand trying to make up for what’s happened, but this clearly isn’t working, is it?”

“I’m sorry, do you have a brilliant idea like you always did three-eyed baldy?!”

“Um... this is getting to be a bit much.” you comment to Lao and Shen.

“I’ve never seen Master Tien get so angry before...” the Crane Student comments. Even the dog ninja seems surprised by the arguing.

“Hah! Ah, this is nothing. They’d get into some really good yelling matches back when they were my students.” Shen states, a nostalgic look on his face. “Tien would usually win them, though.”

She takes a deep breath, counting to five to get herself to calm down. “I am aware. And that is what we were trying to get out of him just a short while ago.”

Tien crosses his arms, calming down a bit too. “None of us could tell that the monster had appeared until after the fact.”

“Hirudegarn will come to its true master soon enough. It wishes to become whole again.” Hoi tells the two of them. “Ah, but without me guiding it, the great Majin will seek out what victims it can. Their deaths are on your heads.” Hoi looks up as best he can, his face slowly gaining a twisted grin. “You can release me and spare more innocents from sharing such a fate.”

“And what? Let you rejoin the halves and carry out your plan to rid the Earth of all life?” Yurin barks out at him. “Don’t think you can trick any of us into believing you again.”

“What I say is the truth!” he replies all too happily.

“So you think it’s trying to lick its wounds after my cousin and one of our world’s monsters kicked its sorry butt, Hoi?” you ask, deflating his ego just a bit.

“Feh! Hirudegarn suffered a minor setback. All you’ve done is delay the inevitable.”

He seems pretty sure of that. Time to see how sure he is. “You know what, Hoi? I think you’re bluffing.” You start to walk towards him, stating, “Hirudegarn isn’t invincible. And they proved it. The monster was damaged and had to run away. You’re worried you’ll never be able to accomplish your nefarious goal. Because you know that with Tapion on our side, we CAN stop Hirudegarn. For good.”

“You think too highly of yourself and that fool!” Hoi spits back at you. “The mighty Majin cannot be stopped no matter how strong you THINK you are. All that will change is how much your world suffers because of this arrogance.”

Well, that got under his skin. “Yeah. We’ll see about that.” Looking back to Yurin, you ask, “Back to a previous point, I did kinda bring up the Talismans for a reason. If that’s how that Talisman of yours works, Yurin, have you been able to get Hoi to tell you how he managed to use it himself?”

“He’s been especially unhelpful with that, but I have been getting some ideas.” she replies as she rubs her forehead.

“I can save you the trouble. You’re wrong. Hahahahaha!” Hoi laughs out.

Ignoring him, she continues, “His first target was Bisa, using him to overwhelm Mr. Popo. Given that he seemed to seek out that other set of Dragon Balls first, I would guess he was familiar with them. Keli was able to prevent that, and Maple and Tien tried to confront him before he could get the actual last Dragon Ball. I’m still trying to figure out how he managed to place one on Maple...”

“It was a surprise to us both.” Tien states “Maple held off as long as she could, allowing me to remove it before he took control.”

“That’s not the problem here. For him to even manage a minor amount of control against someone like Maple, he’d need a lot more power than what they’re designed for.” Yurin tells him.

“Wait, so they can’t work on us?” you ask.

“It’s more that Maple has substantial mental resistance to such a thing in addition to her biological differences. He couldn’t be controlling both Maple and Bisa at once without help.” she clarifies. “Bisa has been with me the longest. He knows how to resist such a thing.”

“That fool’s mind was weak. You truly think I couldn’t order him around? Oh I will admit fully that your magic is impressive. But you put too much faith in his ability to not be manipulated by a superior life form like myself.” Hoi tells her mockingly.

“Highly unlikely. From what Maple and I saw, he was not in the right state of mind. Keli especially can confirm this, she was the one fighting against him.” Tien tells you. “When the Talisman was removed, he seemed dazed.”

“Bisa wouldn’t be going along with Hoi’s plan regardless. He’s been with us since near the beginning.” Yurin affirms.

Tien looks over to her with a glare. “I still wish to talk with you about that.”

“Let’s... focus on the task at hand first.” you remind him. “How could Hoi control him so well?”

“Rather simple.” He speaks up. “It’s the fact that I’m a good deal more advanced than any of you inferior creatures.”

“Big talk for someone who failed this badly.” you remark to him. “Mmmh... it’s not like not having hair makes it all that much easier to control someone, right?”

“Of course.” Yurin rubs her chin. “I doubt he’d know any ways of amplifying the Talisman’s power. Even with more energy, controling someone like Bisa would take a substantial amount more skill than he has.”

“Deny it all you want. His mind was all too easily to manipulate.” the pink alien peanut gallery adds in.

“...All too easy.” Lao repeats, catching everyone’s attention. “He’s right. It would be too easy. The Bisa I know would be far harder to read, especially if he’s had training with you, Yurin. Maybe Gohan’s on to something.”

“Bisa’s been loyal to our cause. He wouldn’t just switch over to play along with Hoi’s plot.” she retorts, her voice louder.

Just then, your mom contacts you... and tells you about Peppa and Chiaotzu’s encounter with Hirudegarn. And the person they found apparently controlling the monster. As you relay this information, Yurin’s face goes white. Hoi stays oddly silent, not even making a mocking remark. Tien clenches his fists. “What is your game here?! Did you know about this?!”

“Of course not! Don’t be stupid!” she yells back at him. “I would NEVER order any of them to do something like this!”

“...Yurin.” you start, your voice filled with dread. “Where is Bisa now?”

“He went to West City to ask...” She realizes just how bad this looks, her head resting in her hands. “We wanted him to ask how Tapion was holding up, and if he needed anything.”

So, let's review what we've learned this session as Gohan, and how it gets him closer to fighting Hirudegarn.

New information:

That last one is the one thing we learned that gets us closer to fighting Hirudegarn and ending this threat. 6 Hours, and we learned one crucial thing after sifting through that exposition, and it's already too late to deal with in Gohan's sphere of influence.

Maybe it would be better to play as Gohan so we don't metagame as Izumi when Bisa comes by, but then Izumi would get shafted again from having her sphere of influence consumed by Gohan Time if we play as Gohan. Then again, we haven't interacted with Izumi as Gohan, so that could be fun!

But yeah, I'm kinda worn out from all this dialogue to get some key information that we need to get to the climax. Like, maybe take away dialogue choices when exposition needs delivering. Of course we want to hear exposition, why does there need to be choices on which to hear?

I liked the intrigue at first, but I don't want to spend all my time asking questions when I could instead be considering the most optimal way to fight an opponent in a Dragon Ball quest because fights are fun.

I gotta say, I really don't like this nerf on the talismans. So what if someone has mental defenses? That doesn't matter when someone disrupts the synapses there and takes over.

That aliens don't have the same pressure point on their forehead because they're from a different planet even though they're clearly humanoid is also terrible.

And Maple got a talisman stuck on her, but we didn't get to fight her? That could've been really fun, but it was meaningless because these talismans apparently suck.

Hirudegarn doesn't talk and I feel we've talked more about what to do here than we have about Hatchiyack or any of our other villains. Can we please just fight him for real this time?

And if anyone has some issues they'd like to bring up, please, I encourage you to speak up. I want y'all to have fun here. You're in this together. I'm not perfect, but I do what I can to make this fun for everyone. So if there are some issues y'all have, I don't mind you bringing them up so long as you're civil about it.
