Going up the tiled stairs, open-air flies past you, as if to take refuge from whatever there is outside. The door to the roof is gone, and with it, the view of your Servant.

Caster is lazing about; playing with her hands, she creates a small pattern with her webs. Even to the modern day, she proves that her skill as a weaver is extraordinary.

You walk from out of the destroyed passageway. The platform that you're traversing is laden with bullet marks, engraved into Judas' world.

"Is there something you need?" Caster said, surprising you. She didn't need to turn around.

"You did great out there," you said, complimenting the weaver. "Say, I want your advice on something."

By the time you're right beside her, you see that her expression is blank. "Hmm?" She sounded unthoughtful; her mindless mind is on about mindless things. "With what, may I inquire?"

"Truvietianne said something about sustaining you earlier. You remember that, right? Could you perhaps help me understand that?"

Taking a seat, you wait for Caster to gather her thoughts. "Take a look at your tattoo, your command seals. They symbolize your state as my Master; you also serve as my anchor to this world."

"Are they just that?" you further asked.

"Well..." Caster holds her tongue before resuming her speech, "If you were to activate them, I would have no other choice but to obey. Absolute obedience, to put it simply. However, you can only use them three times— if they were to disappear, my bond as a Servant will be severed. And soon, will I disappear as well. So actually think carefully about those.

"A Servant needs certain upkeep to materialize. That Edelfelt girl is wondering why you're able to do so."

"Because I am a commoner?" you guessed.

"Yes. Although I'm not as intense as a Berserker, I would still need a flow of Magical Energy. Judas' may be a key factor— regardless if this War's method is entirely different or not. But I, too, wonder. Did you have any family members that practiced any Thaumaturgical arts?"

"No. My family is as normal as a frog in a pond~ My Grandma told me that one!' You laugh, calming down on a little fragment of "maybe." "Now that it's mentioned, my Grandmother was a bit eccentric. She lived near a local mountain, running an old doll shop. I should visit her sometime and fish with her. While we're on the topic, I wanted to know more about Magecraft."

"Really, now?... Hold still, please."

Caster begins to wrap your arms and legs with her silk. Meticulously, intentionally.

Your body heats up, however, the temperature wasn't fatal. You wouldn't be able to focus on it, either way, a vision grabbing a hold of your mind.

An explosion of matter and energy in all varieties, filling an endless void; the birth of a universe all within a single second's mind. It felt unique to your life, wholly different with a new sensation— such pounds your soul in a force you cannot comprehend.

"Master, are you alright?" Caster said, now undoing her web with the same face as before.

You groan, nodding your head. "Y-Yeah. Ugh... What was that?"

"I just directly injected your body with magical energy. Too little, perhaps."

"No, no, no— it's fine!~ I felt the dose. I just want to take a short rest..."

After recomposing yourself, you relight the discussion, "So, what do I do now? That magical energy thing that you did to me, I mean."

"I opened your circuits, a semi-biological system of your body that can bring about the processes of Magecraft. I must say to you that I am not one to teach you the practice, as I am but a seamstress that is within the Caster class. Most of my abilities and powers are from humanity's influence on my legend. You thank Caster. After all, she has been most of your muscle as a Master— and the one who repaired your clothes. Aware of this foreign component of existence, you go meet Truvietianne who's lounging around; she has been thinking for a while about Rider's ability, and other preemptive subjects to enact during the War.

"You?" your appearance bringing her annoyance with your relationship unreconciled. "What do you want? I'm busy."

"Busy thinking?"

"Busy planning! Foreseeing, you dimwit! Out with it, before I throw you out instead," she mildly threatened, pulling her elaborate golden curls.

"I wanted to know more about this Magecraft thing you mentioned." To pacify Truvietianne's remaining hostility, you explain to her of your transpiration during your time with Caster.

"Hmph~" Crossing her arms, she dons a superior expression with this news. "Now, why would I teach you?"

"So I can make it up for you in the future!~"

The chumminess of your line makes Truvietianne dent one of her eyelids; it is forwarded into a hard squint, not knowing what to feel.

"I have put my trust in you as the greater Master, but you have failed me during this afternoon. Investing more is no less than a risk." Her arm glows in a circuiting pattern, punching you in the chest. "That is punishment and a lick of what you are in for, got it?"

"Ergh— G-Got it," you replied in pain.

Truvietianne's teaching is more of a crash course; understandable since you're at constant danger. Luckily, nor Lancer or Caster doesn't come with an alarm, allowing a full, thorough session of the Edelfelt basics...It hurt.

You're mostly filled in about your circuits, how it conducts magical energy, and your own capability— to which you find out that you're pretty average in the eyes of a Magus. Though, Truvietianne was kind enough to elaborate on incantation and Elemental Affinity.

It didn't help well with how fast she went on. Nonetheless, you endured the academic horror that you thought you escaped.

I should note that Earth, Man, Sky and Star are more like Origins than Elements.

Basic primer:
>There are two aspects to a soul called the Origin and Element. The Element (which we're picking now) decides which type of Magecraft you have aptitude for, given that you have Magic Circuits.
>The Origin is the sum of all the memories from your past life and influences your character; it can be "awakened" but that's another complicated story that isn'treally relevant right now.
>In summary, our Origin will decide to some extent what we act like, while our Element decides what Magecraft Truvi can teach us.

> [X] Elemental Affinity: Water

Because of time restraints, Truvetianne doesn't properly teach you a spell. You do, however, pick up your affinity's characteristics, allowing you to have a peek of what you can do—as you have yet to be guided on it.

Lancer comes in, interrupting all activities. The Sun is about to go up again, marking the second day that you have remained here. "Master, there's something you need to see!" He leads the two of you out of the building to the object of his worry...

... A church. Not just a decorative cathedral, but a borderline palace. Rounded roofs and sky-piercing pillars, it stands at the city's borders for every Master to see.

A manic laugh is released, giving your brain a kick. In intervals, the urban environment ahead produces a series of crashes and rampaging noises; collectively, a feminine, howl glides and echoes through the sky while materialistic violence trails itself towards the castle-like church.

Rolling out, you track the ongoing disturbance.

The one who is responsible is impossible to catch up to. To solve this, Truivetianne sends Lancer ahead; he comes back and out with more info on the person.

Caster is on her toes, looking out for anything else while you're told today's details— wide alleyways are being used as protection along the beaten path.

"It's a Berserker, Master," Lancer spoke, addressing the Edelfelt. "Though, I cannot make sense of the Servant itself."

"Spew it out either way. I can put together the pieces regardless of how bland or indescribable you make it as," his Master said, eager to know.

Lancer yields, taking a moment to think in silence. "A woman about my height. She has the same hue as your hair, Master, but it's a lot lighter— or whiter. It's hard to say. Clean, pale skin contrasted with her rough nature— I couldn't get a good picture of her eyes, nevertheless, it's better that way. To top it all off, she has some military costume on."

"Any elements of her outfit itself?" you furthered.

"I'm not familiar with it. I can simply put it as...'imitative.' You'll see— come!"

Positioning yourselves closer to the church, you stay out of sight for observative purposes. There, Berserker.

She fulfilled Lancer's description: a young woman whose wear is that of an officer. From your view, you can actually see her eyes; pristine blues that shines at a distance.

A man accompanies her; bespectacled, he keeps himself in a formal appearance, a bag full of books hanging off his back. He mutters something that you couldn't discern, pondering his approach to this castle.

Berserker and her Master talk to each other; they negotiate a number of probabilities, her Master finally telling her to advance. She does— meanwhile, the Master beckons a creature from his bag. Shuffling and shifting, a huge centipede crawls out of his books.

The enormous bug influences Truvietianne to wince, a mixture of disgust and common fear controlling her at the sight. If it wasn't for Lancer, she would've just blown it up on the spot, revealing all of you.

Despite what it is, the centipede helps this Master read through his books: flipping pages and whispering something into his ear. He begins to fall deep into research, eventually commanding Berserker to attack.

"Draw whichever Servant out! It's a Noble Phantasm in itself!"

"Gladly!" Berserker replied malevolently.

Lunging in, she throws herself to the church's marble stairs. The impact should've broken the stone, but the man's conclusion proved to be true. Or, similarly close to what he thought.

From out of the structure's grand doors, a kingly being. The mere introduction is immediately thrown out of the window, as this monarchial figure opposes Berserker with no other word. Diagonally over his chest, a purple sash; and a golden-hilted sword that he used to fend off this first assault.

Briefly, for all Masters— you, Truviet, and this third other— a glimpse of a little child is seen before the doors shut open.

Berserker refuses to take a direct hit, narrowly dodging strike after strike and returning clawing hands of her own. The young monarch matches his movements with hers, his curly hair being snipped by her nails.

Her Master doesn't idle. Pulling out a journal, he quickly sketches onto its papers.

After going back and forth with Truviet, you both decide to help out Berserker; as her opponent will be a great deal of trouble for the later stages of the War if he is indeed a Saber.

Lancer charges in, causing an abrupt appearance which rendered him as an enemy. Becoming a three-way duel— now interpreted as such without a second thought— Berserker begins to attack Truvietianne's Servant. It has developed into a juggling act between two fearsome foes for the spearman.

Truviet gets out of hiding to clarify her intent, hoping to unwind the intensity by meeting Berserker's Master. For the moment, he halts his focus on his journal to straighten out the event, confusion running amok in the process.

"We're not your enemies for now! Lancer will distract Saber, so relay that to your Servant!" Truviet demanded.

"H-Huh?! R-Right!" he said, trying to get in touch with his rampaging accomplice. Though, it looked to be difficult.

Do not interfere for now, unless Caster can manage to weave enough threads for two things.

Subtly prepare to restrain Berserker, do not spring the trap yet. Wait for Berserker and Lancer to kill saber, then Truviet kills Berserker's master while the servant is restrained. We will need to act quickly when the time comes so that Berserker's master doesn't have time to use a command seal.

"Caster, restrain Saber!" you ordered.

"Already on it! I'm going to need one or two minutes, Master!" your Servant said, undergoing her ritual.

Berserker, gradually, seems to get the idea, constantly balancing her attention to her Master's words and Saber's untiring strokes.

The messy fight is sorted out, parties becoming defined as Truvietianne and the scholar, who stated that his name is George, examines what's unfolding in front of them.

George, although his reaction was meek, starts to get irritated by the girl who insists on her greater standing. Thankfully, it doesn't devolve into a conflict of its own, coordinating his Servant with hers— albeit, in a hurried manner.

Arachne's performance takes off, executing her myriad of webs to entwine Saber's limbs. The act becomes noticed, however; her targets swings in a wide arc to extinguish the creeping threads that shoot out at his foot.

Picking out at the background, Saber makes way to the backline to retaliate; a path was paved from under the open spaces that Lancer and Berserker left out, grasping at the opportunity to attack their Masters.

Truvietianne reciprocates the move by invoking the most effective spell that she could muster. In assistance, Caster blocks Saber to spare the Edelfelt sometime.

George joins in unconditionally. Obviously, he doesn't want to die at the hands of his enemy; one by one, he rips pages out of his book to conjure up a strong gust.

Not before long, Caster's shield is cut through; it was inevitable as a weaker class. The tear in her barrier issues forth a need to reform her web and swiftly does she work to get it back up.

You maintain support for Caster, her delicate fingers intricately plucking away at high speeds.

Truvietianne finishes her verse, directing a powerful wave of red in which Saber meets head-on. In combination with two magi who are working against him, he can only resist the accumulation of magic until their Servants re-engage. Raw power can bring him a long way, but stalling doesn't seem to be his forte for too long.

Racing hearts prolong Saber's delay, Berserker and Lancer relieving their panicked Masters. For a second round, he holds them off before deciding to take refuge into his church.

Unlike Rider's ship, his base is unshakeable. A true fort that can withstand fire and the pounds of Berserker.

Berserker, realizing that her party is at ease, surrenders her attempt to break in. She puts up an innocent smile, hiding the madness in her eyes. "Wild, isn't it? Would you mind explaining this to me, Master?"

George humors Berserker. It soon turns into an argument, the pair ranting about the faults in the previous scene.

Forgetting the anger in her heart, she replaces her facade. "Well~ Why not take this chance to dispose of them? Nothing's stopping us."

Lancer steps up, guarding the front in case Berserker exacts her remark.

"No. It's the least I can do as a favor... Exit the premises," George stated, forcing the disillusioned Servant to come with him. Turning the block, he provides his last parting line: "Next time, I hope that we are on the same side."

You take your time to investigate Saber's church. Royal marble can barely make an echo if you knock on its walls and any window that you see is too high up. The latter can be helped by having Caster suspend you in the air, though, it wasn't as fruitful as you imagined; the rooms that you would peek into were empty, Saber and his Master turtling up somewhere else within the grand fort.

Reporting everything that you know to Truvietianne, she tests the church for herself. "... I can guess that it acts as some type of bounded field?" she presumed upon checking it out for herself. "We could destroy a wall to create an entrance, but it'll need a lot of energy to do so."

"Rider? She could blast a hole in it. Probably," reminding her of yesterday's events.

"She could, but she would most likely refuse to help. After all, Lancer and Caster banged her up hard. Unless..." Lost in thought, she engrosses herself in an idea. Truvietianne casts it away nevertheless to return towards the camp, all to prevent any useless dawdling.

Your partner recapitulates the day upon entering the dormitory. Excluding Lancer and Caster— you have come across, so far, Rider, Berserker, and Saber. "The last of the three is to be dealt with or either considered a top threat out of all the others," Edelfelt suggested, "The remaining pair are Archer and Assassin. I'm not too worried since we have Caster here to watch over us, but Archer may prove itself problematic depending on his or her's choice of doing things."

"What about Cheng? I'm worried that she will sell out our information since she witnessed most of our Servants' abilities."

"That's something to note... We could try hunting her down."

"But we don't know where she went."

Truvietianne leans her head on a hand, repeating the time before you left Saber's premises. "... When you mentioned Rider, I had something cross my mind. Wasn't very sure, but now that I had the moment to think, now's the opportunity to convey it. What if I send Lancer's hounds to fetch her and her Master? They are dogs. And we could follow them to where they go. Maybe lure her out?"

"That sounds fine, but there's a chance that it'll draw in someone else. For all we know, we might run into Archer or Assassin."

"You do prove a point. However, I want to terminate an opponent that might be a hindrance down the road. In truth, I do not have a full grasp of Rider and her Master's personality. Nonetheless, as I share with you, a negotiation between her and another pair will put us in a rut. I can only perceive her as a sly woman."

"Why not contact someone who could provide support? A partnership with... for example, George?"

"That type of strategy is valid— though, not here, in this War. It won't work in the long run if a 'team' makes it to the final rounds. Besides, I do not see George as an easy man to work with. You're a different case because I can, at the very least, have vision over you. Forming more bonds than we need will make things messy, and, frankly, I don't believe in it too much. I don't like to rely on it, period."

For a while now, you keep on listening to Truvietianne, occasionally arguing her on something that she deems unnecessary. You both agree that Rider and Saber are top targets; the first of the two is decided to be sought after, as to not risk any potential leaks in what little information that you have.

Your partner appoints the operation tomorrow afternoon. It'll give you enough freedom to plan or make changes until another fight breaks out.

"Uh, what was your life like before all of this?" you questioned, changing the atmosphere for the better.

"Ha? Why do you want to know?"

"Just a little something. As friends, right?"

"We are far from friends," Truvietianne corrected. "Again, circumstances. A member of an established family wouldn't even take notice of your presence. Let alone wanting to know you."

You chuckle. "Hahaha... Guess that is true... But talking wouldn't hurt. Tell me, do you think that this War is fun?"

"Fun? I may not look like it, but I'm absolutely terrified! I cannot let myself die because of some obscure, dimwit magus! I have pride!" she answered, exploding at your incomprehensible view of this world. "What are you trying here?"

"I'm not trying anything, Miss~" you said, putting up your arms in arrest. "It's just that whenever I look back upon my past, all I see is mundanity. Boredom; a depression for a lack of a better term. Here, I can experience the excitement of danger— success in school cannot achieve such an overwhelming feeling."

You resume after catching yourself a full breath. "For you see, I was somewhat accomplished; high test scores could never scratch the itch in my brain nor the heart-warming love from my family. I know, it sounds bad. It just doesn't sit right with me, however, can you blame a wanting teenager? Today is scarce of mystery or wonder; the reveal of magecraft, until recently, has opened my eyes for something past the local movies or new video games. It's... 'potential.' "

The Finnish girl looks at you weirdly. Closely, she examines a one-of-a-kind exhibit that is Yumigawa. "Y-You're crazy, aren't you?"

"I don't know! This kind of thing that we're in does stuff to a man. In my matter, it's eye-opening— Anyways, Judas told you about a wish too, yeah?"

"I do remember hearing the same thing. What about it?"

"Hypothetically, if you were to win this whole thing, what would you wish for?"

Truvietianne becomes silent, searching herself for an appropriate response. "To be better than my sister? I'm unsure about that."

"You have a sister?"

"It's something of a trait in my family. I'll spare you the explanation since it's not important, but a commoner couldn't understand it either way," she said with a smug smile.

It settles into a placid expression thereafter. "Lucilia has been a tad more talented than me. It's not jealousy per se. Though, I would want something to even up the status quo. What I actually desire is some exit or escape out of this world. Any more than a week will stress me out."

She shakes her head, then points a finger at your person. "Now you— as the lower Master, you have overstepped your boundaries. Go on tell me yours."

Be a bit more skeptical for your own sake." Your spiraling episode dissipates at her words; soon, you recollect yourself. In turn, your partner does so as well. In hours on end, you channel your magical energy into various objects. The goal that Truviet set up for you was to store mana inside them, hoping that it'll lead you into embedding spells and whatnot for the future.

The best that you could give is a minor resistance towards other flows of magical energy; namely, in your jacket, as it'll serve as some amount of magical protection.

"Not too bad, but way below average," your stand-in teacher assessed. "We'll work on your skills for another time."

Truvietianne relents her stubborn front, agreeing to continue the lesson after your efforts to persuade her. "How much of a roach can you be?" she said, off-put by your persistence.

Her disgruntled state cools down upon concentration; she discontinues the transference of power for a later date to introduce you to Elemental magecraft. By isolating the practice for your affinity, you'll understand the concept of spellcasting in an easier path.

The product of your success is small. A globule of water floats above your palms, a feat that you have accomplished in afternoon's time. Going one step further, you split it off into two, then three, and so on whilst adding a verse to the spell. To some extent, if you focus enough, you can change the masses' temperature from slightly cold to lukewarm— you're unable to change them into the extremes using your current knowledge.

You check on Caster for a bit before heading off to sleep. There, like last night, she's playing with her hands; a boring job as a watchman doesn't strike her as undesirable. Rather, calming. Lancer shares the same thought.

"From what I had seen throughout the afternoon, no. Is there something on your mind, Master?"

You nod. "I've been wondering. How do you feel about fighting like this? You weren't a combatant in your former life; does it make you uncomfortable, with being forced into this conflict?"

"I would be lying if I said 'no' for this question. Yes, Master, I am uncomfortable." Caster stretches herself across the floor. Because of her height, she's able to touch your shoes from across a distance. "Being shoehorned into such a system isn't doing me a favor. I could be more useful as a Berserker at least. "What I mean is, I don't think being a Berserker would be true to you. Needlework requires control; it's the flow of tiny, intricate motions that mend together. That's what your legend comes from, what allowed you to surpass a goddess: your ability to create magnificence through control. As a Caster, if you don't mind me repeating myself, you capture that beauty, and I wouldn't want to lose that in exchange for more power. I respect it."

"I'm not one to enjoy the type of talk that you're speaking. But it does reassure." Caster picks herself up from the ground to take place upon the vacant space beside you. Taking a glance, you notice the scarcity of her emotions— she still holds that bored countenance ever since your first meeting. Of course, she changes face along the way. It's just that she defaults to it quite often.

The third cycle of the Sun arises. Truvietianne goes over this afternoon's plan, this time with Lancer and Caster being present. They found no problems, but Lancer himself is iffy about it. He too ponders the chance that you'll run into some other Servant. However, he has confidence in his dogs.

You practice magecraft in the meantime, conducting magical energy into water to better familiarize yourself. Wishing to take it to the next level— or, an inch more so— you center your mind on the levitating liquid to shape it. A dent in the sphere is all you can do.

Dispersing the spell that forms it, content with this centimeter of progress, you then meet up with Caster to formulate any complimentary procedures if things go south.

It wasn't something that I would use since the intake of energy will increase if I did; weaving layer after layer to make a powerful shield is, from what I saw, more efficient as a Servant."

"That's fine! It's better than a papercut's worth of damage!" you said, the whim overshadowing the error in your line.

"I don't have a reason to make anything. Is there something you want me to do?"

A line of Caster's web enters your vision. The qualities that it possesses is far beyond any source of plush: soft to the touch, stretchy, and resistant to strain. Its material is more pronounced during battle; unfortunately, fragile when up against a vicious force.

"Could you craft me a scarf maybe?' all with a gentle smile. "A little something to remember."

The suggestion resounds from within her. "It's been a long time since my hands worked a traditional profession. Sure, Master."

In a flash, as if working an instrument, a long piece of silk is slowly shaped into a scarf.

Handling it is a wonder of its own; lightweight and smooth, it feels like enrapturing air around your neck.

Swiftly with glee, you thank her. Your Servant just relaxes into a comfortable exterior, sighing. All is well.

Out of nowhere, due to youthful capriciousness, you corner Truvetianne to a wall. Physical senses are heightened, the regal dish that stands under you changing from puzzled to stupefied; her stoic form takes a hit as you pin your left arm over her shoulder. Your free hand gestures for an invite.

"W-What are you doing, you hound?!?!" she cried, unable to figure out where this sudden course of action came from. The confident Edelfelt has turned into a cherry's hue.

You hum joyously, choosing to leave her questions unanswered. The atmosphere around you is rising in heat, boarding close to the line of overfamiliarity but not crossing it.

Finally, you speak— to clarify something on your part while under a suitable tone. "Don't take it to heart, Truvietianne. Rider may have a certain allure, but it's only that of a common outlaw. The difference between her and you is like that between a hamburger and expertly-refined cuisine. And there's nothing I'm craving more right now than a top-cooked dish of filet mignon~"

Nervous perspiration coats her forehead, a bead of sweat running down the side of her face.

Her mouth trembles, unable to enunciate any sort of comprehensible language. The cherry hue of her cheeks has reddened to a sweeter color, however, the development sluggishly halts.

Unlike her normal self, she slips to the right in order to free herself. The embarrassment is too much for a girl who knows how to be a good daughter. Silence is left alone, though, the metaphorical temperature you have set still lingers.

You leave her be for the day, seeing her off as she exits the hallway.

Before you walked down the opposite direction, you part with a sneaky implication. Nonetheless, your heart is in a purer place than what your tongue goes forth with. "Good day then, Truvietianne. But if you have a change of mind, remember this: I'm always hungry~"

"Continue this nonsense or I'll dispense harsher retribution!" your partner opposed.

The promise doesn't ensure a drop of concern. To you, it has treated itself as a normal way of living. Regardless, you abide. Her acclaim as a prideful human hasn't lowered to any degree.

The Sun is well beyond its zenith. Currently, along with your party, you have ventured into the city to initiate the operation.

On the Finnish girl's command, Lancer activates his Noble Phantasm; a bigger pack is summoned to facilitate a quicker scan of the urban grounds. Once ready, he sets them loose, leading the forefront of the group.

Since that moment in the corridor, Truviet looks to her side every time you connect your glance with hers. It fails to distract her from issuing proper leadership, however. She stays keen for a surprise, an aria planted in her head in case a diverging situation is unveiled.

The trail is clear of hostility, encounters gone absent. Lancer's hounds pave a path out into a field where a massive river flows through.

The orange sky shows off a ship down the waters. Needless to say, its Rider's, the person herself sitting by the bank with a bottle of wine in her grasp.

The hounds are dismissed to keep your position hidden. In a nearby brush of trees and shrubs, just close enough to examine the Servant's activity, you stalk.

"This couldn't be any better!" Truvietianne exclaimed in a low voice.

Determined to finish off her enemy, Truviet sets off the signal to attack in a compelling motion.

Lancer grips his spear, jumping out of the encompassing thicket. Upon your secondary adjure, Caster institutes her web to strike.

Rider, taken aback by this unforeseeable scenario, hastily brings out her sword. The blade collides with the arm of Lancer's weapon, sparks flying out as they pull back for a second swing and then a third. Both sides act out gingerly, identical in speed.

It's apparent that Rider is weaker in strength, but the trickiness in her movement makes her out to be formidable; the maneuvers she pulls of defends against the snaking vines of Arachne whilst holding off the stronger foe in front.

From out of Rider's ship, her Master. Instantaneously, he joins the fight with a pistol in hand, Truviet returning the fire. It's a stalemate once more.

"You could've sent a letter, you know?~" Cheng teased. "Arriving all unannounced is so rude~"

"Master, what we agreed on might be detrimental to you. Are you still sure about it?" Caster said, just in case.

"Absolutely! Use as much as you need! I already said it myself, didn't I?"

"I see. As you wish!"

The flow of energy can be felt in your arms. Arachne puts in a huge sum of power into the strength of her threads, their bodies meshing together into piercing streams; a hundred levels stronger than what they were, aside from when they're interwoven into shields.

The exchange helps out. It forces Rider to defend without a chance to counter either Caster or Lancer. "You kept something under your sleeves? That isn't fair, let alone the fact that I'm facing the brunt of two opponents."

Lancer smirks. "You don't look like you're complaining! Having fun?"

"More than I could imagine. However, that doesn't mean I'm going to die off this quickly!"

Rider pounces back onto her ship, letting loose a constant volley of magical torrents. Caster meets the wave with a bulwark of her own, protecting the rest of you from any source of damage.

"How are you feeling?" she enquired under the roaring fire.

"Too good! Keep up the exciting performance!" you applauded.

The organization of Caster's web is riveting. She subtly waves and twirls her arms to assume a dominant stance, her previous plucking of the air unfit for this supply and flow of energy. The patterns in her shield are varied, turned into white masterpieces in of themselves. Unused strands are floating in the air, progressing forward through manipulation.

Seeing that this isn't going anywhere, Rider ends the constant fire for her ship to take off. Bombardment hails over your heads, choosing to pick out open points in your defense.

Her Master is conjuring up an array of symbols: straight-lined characters that circle around in a formation. From it, lightning that hammers down at your location.

"Target Rider's Master! It'll slow both of them down if he's wounded!" you advised, watching what unfolds by the river and sky.

Autonomously, as she heard your mouth sound her next aim, Caster unravels her tightly-knitted wall. It took on the shape of a harpoon, ejecting itself to mark its designated prey.

It successively hits, gouging out the Master's shoulder once blood stained its pearly white. He falls down to tend his leaking puncture; the source of the released discharge abruptly stops, unable to go on without the channel of its inducer.

"Old man, you good?" Rider said in a hush. Not merciful enough to offer her Master a swift look.

He pulls himself to a refuge, leaning against the wood. "Ignore me and keep firing! I can patch myself up."

Explicitly told to not mind his health, his Servant goes on with a delightful grin.

"She's still going at it?!" Truviet sang violently. "The hell is wrong with that woman?!"

"No use in pondering that, princess," Lancer remarked. "There's nothing for me to jump off of. Any of you got some ideas?"

A lightbulb is struck. "Caster, fling him!"

"Huh?" the subject let out, clueless.

A surface is made underneath Lancer's feet. "Good luck on the crash!" Arachne blessed, projecting him upwards.

He yelps in confusion, his scream filling the air momentarily before he is collected. Caster could've calculated it better, the invader almost missing the ship if he hadn't grabbed onto the deck's edge.

The artillery mellows out, Rider changing focus on Lancer whose balance has yet to be found.

Caster attaches an anchor to the ship, following it up with a strike at its cannons. The turrets couldn't be damaged, however, remaining in place as they refuse to be pulled out.

The restriction is good enough as it is. Over time, Lancer is slowly gaining the upper hand in his duel against Rider, gradually cornering her without any aid from her Master.

Truviet stops gawking at the scene and restarts her own spells. Cited over three or more verses, she packs more of a punch in the expense of vulnerability.

For you, whose job thus far is to act as Caster's battery, notices a burden on your back. Instantly, you know that it's exhaustion, but your spirit continues to overlook your waning capability.

"Damn. This doesn't help when he's half-dead," spoke Rider, now at her wits' end. At this point in time, her Master is unconscious due to blood loss; the wound in his left shoulder is crudely tied up and covered with a cloth.

In a moment's desperation, she pulls out her pistol. Her finger wasn't fast enough to set the trigger, disarmed from her grasp by Lancer himself.

He's not as fatigued as his opponent, but the physical strain ushers in a frantic breath. Without waste, he shifts his arms in one last thrust, finally connecting his spear's end into the stomach of Cheng.

Brows furrowed, she is caught in disbelief. The mortal wound disables her to speak and, instead, rough coughs escapes her mouth. Before long, she drops dead, her dress soaked in a fake crimson.

A yellow light hovers from her corpse. The ship, being a part of her materialization, is plagued by the dying sign as well. Lancer disengages from the ship before he falls prey to the absent platform.

He couldn't say the same for Rider's Master. Still slumbering, the last image that Pwll sees of him is his river bound body; with a splash, he's consumed by natural waters that travel to somewhere unknown.

Lancer settles under a young tree and sighs. "Ugh, that's a day... I swear, that princess works me like a slave."

"Repeat that?" Truviet overheard him, an index finger pointed at him.

"N-Nothing..."

You get up from cover, making way to the hardworking hero. Though, your peripheral shutters for a bit... "Wha?" you mumbled, bewildered by the biological malfunction.

Legs standing in place, you take a moment to check what's going on. "Weird," you said to yourself as it doesn't occur again. The cause is undisclosed, mysteriously so.

Caster comes up to you, curious. "Is something wrong, Master?"

"Oh, no. Just a little something, but it's not harmful. Let's gather ourselves, shall we~?" wholly optimistic.

You deter Truviet's rage from her Servant, the man himself thanking you for sparing him another painful experience. It was easy to do such, as the young daughter is antsy to return back to shelter.

An extra measure was brought up during the second trip: Lancer sent his dogs off ahead to assure a safe path, the method working throughout its duration. The whole trek is unreal to you— forgettable the second you sink into the lounge's couch.

Drained, your head mindlessly drifts in the sea of your consciousness; you fall asleep due to consequential weariness from the fight, a rest necessitating your needs as a human.

You wake up after nightfall, the Moon's pale glow faintly illuminating the present room. Reenergized, you sit in utter solitude.

You go visit Caster to where she usually is, but it's a shock when you see that the roof is empty. It's strange when she isn't there, like when a spider is gone from its corner— without the ensuing terror of course. The last choice is to go down the building, exiting through the backdoor. Although, brainlessly, as you follow the cool night with unfounded trust, whatever the reason may be.

It seems that Judas' world has more to offer, vibrant life dancing under the blank void above. Fireflies hold themselves as living lightbulbs that float close to the ground.

In the background, where campus decor is all the same shade, Caster. She's lazing on a bench, looking to her sides periodically in instinctual alertness. The archaic dress that she wears makes her out as a woodland flower; her long mane, despite its absence of a brighter color, reflects the shine from the sky.

"Hahaha~ just a normal visit." Leaning over the bench, you look off into the darkness. A tree's branch holds up a complex tapestry. "That looks nice."

"I'll try to tone it down. But you don't approve? What is your stance on my love life, whatever may it be~?"

"I don't have a particular thought about it... It's just a little daring, so's to speak."

Caster changes the conversation towards a shaky direction. Out of the two of you, she hopes that you don't tread it any further.

We haven't moved onto any risky bases, teasing pretty girls is how we cope with stress. Make sure to point out the fact we have no idea what 'Mana Transference' actually entails.

"Daring? In reality, I prefer it to be as such. In fact, now that I think of it, you blushed a tad too hard at the mention of 'mana transference.' " The reminder gets a chuckle out of you, a humble one. If Caster didn't know any better, you would share the same abashed emotion outright. The stress is cooking you alive.

"You're pretty easy to tease yourself, aren't you?"

"Up and all with a t-tizzy, you are," Arachne said, hiding her resurfaced embarrassment.

"Am I? Sure, I'll confidently agree. But I have yet to know about this practice~ What I've said entails a contrasting experience than the expert handling of magecraft. Please, I implore a thorough explanation."

Caster swallows her throat, attempting to convey what you asked for. To her dismay, the words that are sent do not meet your expectations. She, herself, is hesitant, struggling to instruct.

You wave a hand to dismiss the tension. "It's alright. I'll figure it out myself if you're unwilling."

Relieved, Caster takes a minute to calm herself. She isn't very good with intimate topics, that fact is clear as day. And so, to help her out, you switch the chatter's mood into something friendlier— rather, safer for her feminine heart, at the very least.

Devoid of provoking inquiries, you both talk the night away. All till sleep seizes you for a late-night nap.

The air is fresh, albeit wet; a light fog rolled in this morning which is soon to dissipate, leaving everything in a watery coat— from the grass under your feet to the cemented constructions that are up ahead.

Truviet instated that you're strictly forbidden to wander afar this early in the morning. It was mostly said out of common concern, but you knew that it contained her suspicions. Not that it affected you in any way or form, though.

"A girl?" you whispered upon picking your head up.

Inside an unoccupied building is a child; she's playing with a handful of pebbles, clearly enthralled as you watch her build a few abstract 'houses' with the stones.

Taking a closer look, you then recognize her: it's the girl from Saber's church.

Carefully, you greet her. "Hello. How are you?"

She looks up, strangely bewildered by your reveal.

Not distressed at the possibility that maybe her Servant will appear, you look for some way to engage a positive reaction.

"Wanna see a trick?"

The girl stays unresponsive. In spite of that, you went on, juggling three rocks in front of her. Mesmerized, she becomes your one-man crowd; her short-lengthed hair bobs up and down, hypnotizing you in turn.

Gradually, you add to the juggle; balls of water are conjured, becoming as solid as anything can be. One might say that they're made of glass before they liquify, adding to the difficulty in your act.

Grabbing a few of her stones, the girl tries to imitate you. It went about as well as you expected it to be; she couldn't master the coordinated motion, imminently failing the play.

"Magdalene, but... I prefer Mary," she timidly spoke.

"That's a pretty unique name you have there. Pleasantries aside, may I know why you're all alone here?"

"Justinian?" you repeated.

She nods her head, almost falling asleep halfway through. "Yeah. He takes care of me. Justinian cooks for me, does the laundry for me, and dusts the furniture— he cleans most, if not all, of the church."

"Sounds like a cool guy. What's he like?"

"Responsible," Mary said after a pause. "He can be fun and tries not to ruin it. There are some things that I don't understand, though."

Light bypasses the fog, streaming into the room's window and onto the girl's face. Heavy bags are shown, perceptible within the unlit space unlike previously.

"How much do you sleep?" you asked, the question beckoning itself.

"Not much. Not a lot. Justinian said that it's to keep me away from the Sandman. I talked to him before too; he's weird. Tells me to answer some questions in place of Uncle Judas."

"If you say so as well... Are you a stranger?"

"Do you want me to be a stranger?"

"No."

"Then I'm not one~ With that in mind, may you explain this Sandman? What did he look like?"

Mary complies, detailing the man with exaggerated gestures. "He's tall and doesn't have a face. The rest of his body is covered by a cloak, alongside a belt that's tied to his waist. On it, a pouch. Ah, right!— he had a farming tool with him. He hung it on his shoulders."

The description resembled much of Judas' assassin. You hoped that it'd be a different person, but it seems that it's the truth. Just what is her relationship?

"Coming here? What do you mean by that?"

"Were you not summoned?"

"Justinian was, but not me. You ask as if you're from another world."

Your brow raises. "So you were born here?"

"Uncle Judas created me. Does that count as being born?"

She doesn't get what you've asked for, misunderstanding where you're coming from. It's certainly odd with how plain her intentions are, interpreting everything in this world as normal. Did this girl lived here before any of the Masters arrived? If so, for how long?

You lift yourself up, dusting your clothes thereafter. "I gotta get going. My partner wouldn't like it if I'm out for too long. It's been nice meeting you."

"You too. Will we see each other again, perhaps?"

"If circumstances make it possible. I can't really promise you anything, sadly."

"Oh. Goodbye, then. Your name is Rushorou, right?"

"You got it. And I won't forget yours on my part. See ya~!"

Mary waves back at you until your figure vanishes around the corner. There, now restored, she lays alone with her stones. The atmosphere felt peculiar at that moment, left to herself again.
