/qst/ - Quests

The wind howls throughout the dead plains, telling of a battle that is to come. And come it will, as you begin to outline four figures in the hills. You have perched yourself over the demon king's castle's gates like a harmless pigeon, but your appearance says otherwise in a sharp refute. Many years have you stayed in this exact spot, overseeing the scenery before you without any real change. Even after your lord's resurrection, you're still plagued by a monotonous atmosphere of being the final guard to his castle.

When the four figures get closer, your heart begins to race. It's a natural reaction to battle, but there's something more to it. In the group is a fair maiden, adorned with a wizard's cap and cloth, a long staff in her hand; the staff, though, is misused, the girl using it as a walking stick. The hard thing to swallow is that this is the hero's party, and conflict in imminent the moment you show yourself.

The leader of the group, which, of course, is the hero, pokes around at your gate. He talks to his comrades for advice, eventually concluding to blow down the apparatus itself. But before they start to go through with the destructive plan, you jump down from above to present yourself, greatsword drawn from its scabbard. You're not just any castle guard, but the final one: Ulysses, the Guard Dog

Immediately you state your name. In turn, the heroes brandish their tools for impending violence. "Why do you side with the demon king?!" their leader said, gallant in both style and speech.

"His pay is generous, and he also provides health insurance and child support. But that's when he's alive," you joked, getting a chuckle out of yourself.

"This isn't the time to jest. Let us through or we will have to take undesirable measures, fiend!" the hero demanded; Luther, a young noble, you heard from the countless conferences between your lord's generals.

Your vision wanders toward the wizard girl, hidden on your beak-like visor. She senses your gaze, holding up her staff in reaction to its foreboding feel. Such little actions somehow hurt you. Not in a physical sense, but in your heart. Emotionally, you would say? It's weird and indescribable.

Lost in your own detached land of time, you keep on looking at the girl. It doesn't help her view of you, a bead of sweat dripping on the side of her cheek. Her eyes are common, dark brown, skin slightly tanned from her journey. You can even see a minor tan line on her chest, where her robe ascends and descends as she breathes heavily. The girl's hair nothing special, it too painted in the same hazel color. However, it seems soft. Softer than the party's priest who must be from a high birth; blonde hair, blue eyes, and all that indicates nobility. The same for Luther.

Then, you finally get it. The realization makes your heart drop into your stomach with excitement. "I'll be honest. I do not want things to get messy as well. But fighting is a core aspect of this war. No, it's unremovable, like how bees need a flower...pollination. A new beginning in a cycle." As you go on, the heroes, Luther, the priest, the female ranger, and the wizard girl, ready themselves. You do not get in a stance, though. "Listen. Everything always has a price, hero."

"Then I will pay it! For the peace of my kingdom!" he proclaimed.

You nod. "Then," raising a finger, you point at your target, "give me her, as my bride."

Each and every one of them widens their eyes, expecting that they've heard wrong. But under a long silence, the request settles in their brains and a wave of uncomfortable, undisputed ambiance joins the stage. The wizard girl, whom you want as your lover, is more affected than the others. Her face slowly glows pink out of embarrassment. You, too, are flustered, but years of stoicism has helped you maintain an uncracked facade. Although, it doesn't unwind your need to scream out.

"I-I don't trust you! What are you going to do with Lizzy?!" Luther questioned, recomposing himself. The ranger and priest follow in his efforted restoration of the soul, steeling themselves. The last member is left in a disarray.

"Nothing bad. Her petite body is just my type."

"Really now?" the ranger says; an elf, her ears poking through her lightly green-tinged locks, "A big guy like you would be too much for Lizzy to handle. Especially in bed."

Both the priest and wizard turned to the elf, seemingly weak to talks about intercourse. Your neck sways a centimeter to the left out of distress. Sure, sex isn't alien to you. You've had a succubus girl here and there to satisfy your manly desires, but the relationship you aim to have with the Lizzy girl is to be complete. Wholesome, you'd add in order to drive the point across.

Sensing that the state of the party isn't suited to confront the demon king's castle, Luther gathers his companions for a quick talk. It was more of a reason to give the elf ranger a lifeline from the raging, yet delicate spellcasters; "Irie!" they'd address to the ranger, scolding her to be more proper about intimate activities. Mostly from the priest whose occupation is founded on purity.

You don't even know her father! To save yourself from the intangible hulk that's drilling the complicated worries of courtship, you yell, "I'd be gentle!" to the temporarily leaving party. It only quickens the pace by which they move.

Soon, they come back. The hero, Luther, brandishes his sword again, but the other three stay back. "A duel. If I win, Lizzy is to remain with us. If you do... Lizzy is yours."

"It isn't a difficult trade, Luther of the sword. It is the same as paying off a town guard to let you into a tyrant's city. If nothing else, I would simply kill you all and whisk her away. Though, that is what my Lord told me not to do for people. 'If you kill their friends and family, they will come back with vengeance. Instead, you enslave the whole family.' "

"But Lizzy isn't some town guard. She's our friend!" Luther said sharply. Besides, paying off someone with money is different than trading a companion!"

To slacken the unused weight on your arms, you pin your greatsword into the ground. "I'll have to deny you, O hero. What I'm doing here has never been done before: an easy passage for an easy price. Please, keep civilized and think this through."

"Still. There's nothing civilized about sacrificing someone for the sake of one's goals."

"Then that's foolish," you argued. "Naive views like yours make crestfallen men! Does your king trouble over every dead soldier? No. He gives an acknowledgment for those who are lost and moves on with the strife."

Luther, provoked by your criticism that questions his own heroism, gets his tongue tied while thinking of a refute. "I cannot offer her. It's wrong," his articulation distracted.

Your masked expression looks down on him with disappointment. At a moment like this, where you're influenced by your whimsical love for that wizard girl, emotions steeped in passion extends to negativity as well. Disappointment and being unable to comprehend his train of thought. "Give her to me, and I'll let you through freely. That is my only offer."

At your utterance, and knowing that you won't strike him with dishonor, Luther lowers his sword. His eyes glance over to his party, seeking an answer from them.

"What's the point of negotiating with a demon! Just fight him!" Irie the elven ranger said with annoyance. "There's no reason we should lose a powerful member of our team for us to pass the gate. Especially when we're going to face the demon king."

"Irie, don't be quick to shoot. We have talked with local demons before. If he's willing to settle things peacefully, albeit quite suspiciously, then we have to comply to avoid tiring ourselves before the final fight," the priest says to quell the elf's simple mind. "Lizzy, your thoughts?"

The wizard girl perks up. Prompted, she inspects you from afar, as if she can identify your intentions. An idea must've come to her because, a second later, she ushers in her team to explain some sort of plan.

After their abrupt conference, Luther approaches you with due caution. "Gatekeeper."

"It's Ulysses," you correct.

"Well, Ulysses... We'll yield to your demand and let you have Lizzy." The voice of the young man was hesitant, yet coated in casual elegance. Turning a shoulder to look behind himself, he then beckons the wizard girl who isn't any content with the fact of her relinquishment.
>>
Now we are going to have to save her friends feom the demon king won't we?
>>
>>3357395

Looking down at the girl, you tense your muscles to be like an unmoveable statue. She freezes up as well, fearing misfortune if she breaks your gaze. The harmonious, or maybe destructive syncing of your line of sight is short-lived, as you remember your end of the deal. And without delay, you activate the gate's apparatus with a small key that presided in your pocket.

Nervously, the remaining three walk past you and their comrade, the gate closing up once they have fully entered the site of your lord's castle. Her friends' worry comes back to haunt her instead, for her countenance begins to devolve into a fearing mess that dares makes its presence from her.

Nevertheless, you retain a desire to mold this start of a blooming love into a flowering result. The means, though, are hard enough as it is; starting with a meek utterance: "Pardon the selfishness of my actions. I only wish to court you, but the tone that I set myself seemed to sway your impression. I apologize."

"I-It's okay," the wizard girl replied.

"This is quite new to me, you know. Nonetheless, I promise utmost care till the end of your days; to which, I hope it never ends." Your attempts at being romantic doesn't compliment much of your appearance. A knight expressing his feelings to a woman who he just met. A human, to note, an eccentric choice for a bride within your race. More than ever since the start of the war.

Not wanting the air to become stale, you take the initiative and try to know her better. Her likes, dislikes, and more about herself that a singular meeting couldn't supply. "H-Honeydew," she answers, sharing her favorite fruit.

"Melon, I see. Say, what made you want to be a wizard?"

"That's hard to convey... My sister, I suppose? She's one as well, and is most of my family."

"No parents? Can't imagine how a person would do without a father or mother. But your sister's filling that gap, ain't she?"

"Y-Yeah..." Without warning, Lizzy points the superior end of her staff, a blue stone decorating the tip. "Sleep!" she cast, funny drowsiness clouding your mind.

Your free hand grasps at her wrist, making the staff drop and dispelling the cast entirely. What the wizard girl did jabs at your chest, but it's probably what she discussed before her friends left her. You only have yourself to blame for hoping that she'd ignore her own plan. Still, you are not going to give up. This Lizzy showed some fun on her face for a while. Too bad that she's quick to discard it.

"I expected no less from you, and your bravery to try this trick is admirable," you praised. The guttural in your voice makes it out as menacing on her end. Examining the discomfort in her visage, you continue to speak. "There are two things that you forgot to factor in, unfortunately: I have all my health, which is a rookie mistake if you're using such spell, and that a guard dog never sleeps." Letting her free, you watch as she hides in your shade, scared to pick up her staff again. "I say that you had no other method of escape, as I would've chased you if you teleported. In any case, we'll be leaving for the material realm. No reason to stay when your friends will likely come back to rescue you."

"Material realm?" she mumbles. While she's running circles in her head, you pull out your sword and sheathe it. Thereafter, you gather her and her stave into a princess carry. The constant flip in the atmosphere mood prolongs Lizzy's bewilderment.

"Lizzy, where does your sister live?"

Your soon-to-be bride snaps herself back into reality. "A-At a small town. Haybel," thinking to have no other choice, other than to talk.

"Haybel," you repeat. Name alone, it hints at a rich country-side with golden-rye fields.

Making a detour around the castle gates, you heave up a large rock that stored all of your pay. Three full chests of pure gold. Grabbing their chains, you tie all three of them around your back, heading off into the sunset right after.

Lizzy's mouse-like fear mellows down. "Isn't that heavy?" she asks.

"I've carried heavier. Dragons, elephants, giants. Many things that would cause an earthquake with but a stomp. A testament to my own strength..."

"...dearest Elizabeth." The hazel-haired girl reddens up for the third time, a cloud of steam levitating above her bashful person.

Night has arrived. Under the sea of stars, you fix a fire with tinder, adding a log once it grows to a sufficient size. Your post at the demon king's castle's gate can no longer be seen in the horizon. A greener part of the demon lands is where you are, purple grass layering the hills here and beyond.

Lizzy sits across from you, huddling near the burning pit for warmth A distinct tiredness can be seen on her face. A few hours before, she attempted to cast a fire spear at your body. But, by you, it had been dodged; merely by stepping to the right, it blasts the area where you've would've been burnt. A fierce reprove from you led to her current exhausted behavior.

"Thanks," Lizzy says. Taking the cooked fish from you, she scarfs it down. She asks for some water, drinking from your skin that you've filled-up along the way.

"Be careful with how fast you eat. You'll choke," you warn.

"Ah. Sorry. It's just... I don't know what to do now. My mind's on too much stuff." Moving closer to Lizzy, you take her under your mantle, the cloth wrapping around her body. "Oh. You don't have to. I'm not that cold."

"It's not about the night's touch, dearest," smiling under your helm. "Pay your worries no mind. It is I who's going to deal with the consequences. Your friends will, no doubt, understand our development. My comrades, on the other hand, would hunt me down if news spreads about our love."

"Comrades? Do you mean about the demon king's generals?"

"Yup. And the last I've heard, they're still alive; howbeit, recovering after your bouts with them. The most that I'm concerned with is Agarma. She and I haven't been the best of brothers-in-arms."

"Agarma? Is it possible that she wields a mace among the four generals? And a suit of armor like yours, but exponentially thicker."

"That's her," you say, surprise painting your bride's pupils.

"General Agarma is a she, huh? Under that helmet, she sounds more like a man."

"She just doesn't like to show her feminine side. Put her in a dress, she'll put you in a casket."

Demons, as a race, are known for their strength and prowess but are fewer in number than humans. A ratio of 6:10 I'd say. Right now, you're journeying to the town of Haybel, which is in a different region from where you are right now. You could search for an alternate route, though, if you anons are willing.

To answer the question (but note that I don't much about the planes that you're talking about) the demon region is in the same plane as the humans'. Same for other races. As in, presently, you're in the material plane.

Please do say your thoughts on the matter, if something strikes a chord with any of you. Never went in-depth about race whereabouts and planes.
>>

Uncaping yourself, you give Lizzy your mantle as a blanket for tonight. You assure her that it's alright to sleep with abandon, for you'll stand vigil through the evening and early morning hours. Your bride complies, curling up by the crude firepit of yours.

Lady luck spared you her hand. No beast assaulted your little camp, nor any natural dangers such as rain. Thinking that it's high time to resume your walk to Haybel, you gently wake Lizzy up.

She murmurs softly, rubbing the sand out of her eyes. Due to tossing around in her sleep, her hair is completely disheveled to the last strand. Lizzy didn't care much for it, as she just hid her unbecoming mane under her hat.

While you reset the chains of your treasure boxes to yourself, your bride nearly fell prey to slumber again. She isn't a morning person, it seems, keeping your mantle as some kind of cocoon.

Picking Lizzy up, you carry her like a princess once more. Her numbed consciousness gradually puts itself together, your bride piping-up like a flute at the intimate position she's in again. You hush her with a finger to her lips, calming her down.

"There aren't many allies that I can consider as 'friends,' " you spoke, going over possible candidates for the best man. The thought of a wedding incites another episode of drunken confusion into your bride. However, at a steady pace, she's become relaxed around the type of talk that you discuss for the future, still apprehensive. "Actually, I can invite Chief Bolswine!"

"Who's he?" Lizzy inquired.

"A chief of an orc tribe. Despite his usual disposition, Bolswine is a good man. A faithful one too, as he's purely monogamous, a contrast from other orc chiefs. How about you, dearest? Is there anyone that you wish to be your bride's maids?"

"I-I have no clue. My sister could work. Maybe. There's also this barmaid that I know quite well."

"Hmm... We can work on that along our way," you suggest, forwarding the wedding talk.

A week and a half go by. You and Lizzy have long departed from the barren domain of the demon lord and into the land of humans, dwarves, and elves; territories ruled by other races of their own conflicts, but problems lesser than the current war that your, now previous, lord began. Hopefully, the demon king should be defeated by now, Lizzy's friends returning in the same way you did.

The path that you took has unified into a cleaner dirt road. Soon, fields of grain are witnessed in the country, your bride saying: "There, that's Haybel," upon the scene of a small town. Certainly, the land has changed from a dreary plain, purple hills, a red canyon, to here.

Suddenly, you stop. "How should I proceed?" you said with a tone unsuitable. Showing yourself to your bride's family, let alone her townsfolk is... nerve-racking.

"I think it'll be fine if you just act normally. But normal's too vague, is it?" Lizzy responded, hugging your leg as she stands with you.

Ah. Sorry for the poor word choice. Lizzy can almost reach your shoulders (1.62 est. meters).
>>

You herd Lizzy's grasp into your own, her palm fitting within the bounds of your gauntlets. She looks away but doesn't steer, following you into Haybel.

The townsfolk recognized the wizard girl, as you presume being within the heroes' party would garner her fame. The citizens' celebratory attitudes are halted though, for she is joining hands with an unknown knight that possesses an ominous aura. Because of so, they stay away until you're out of sight, mostly preserve themselves from whatever you might do to them if angered.

Your bride takes the lead after strolling down a street or two. The destination that she sought after is a schoolhouse. "It's behind here," she clarified, showing you a smaller lab near the educational facility's vicinity, just where the woods are cut off from the surroundings.

You freeze, becoming as solid as the gold on your back. "M-Maybe I should wait outside, and you'd come for her," you advised.

"Don't be afraid... At least trust my hand," Lizzy pleaded. That little sentence is enough to give you courage, meeting the door to your bride's sister and turning its nob.

Must be bad pacing from my part. I apologize. Any suggestions that I could do to make up for it?

Entering the house, you walk inside the room next over, pass the kitchen within the hall. The ground is littered with countless books and the shelves are cluttered with odd curios: materials from eyes of an unknown species, herbs, and metals. "She must be here," Lizzy supposed, searching around the messy room.

Just as her foot stepped on something, a shape emerges from the paper-made pile. It's a woman, sharing much of your bride's characteristics. What sets her apart is how her eyes droop at the ends, expressing a lazy soul, whereas Lizzy's are rounded altogether; there's a height difference as well, half a head taller than her, but that's as much you can figure out while she's wearing a baggy robe. "Lizzy? You should've sent me a letter from the capital if you were coming," she sleepily says. "Sorry that I couldn't get you. I fell asleep due to the heat."

"The door was unlocked," Lizzy notes, aerating the room as she opens the dusty windows.

"Really?" her sister's floaty voice accentuating the end of the word, "I must've forgotten to lock it after I came from the market. Teehee."

Lizzy sighs. "Your talented at magic, but not much for anything else, is there? Not that I'm complaining."

"Oh, yes. And who's this knight?" finally switching the spotlight on you.

"Likewise. I'm Henriet. You don't seem to be the kind of person that Liz would hang out with."

Your bride retreats to you, standing by your caped figure. "He's... We're... getting married. W-We plan to!"

"Hmmm?" Henriet nods with eyebrows raised, becoming unnerving when there's no sign that she'll stop. And as you were thinking her gesticulation will never end, she falls face first into the books before her.

Lizzy comes to her aid, asking for your help. Picking the elder sister up, you deliver her to the kitchen, the younger making a cup of tea. After a while, Henriet becomes conscious. "How nice, Liz. Over four months and you got yourself a man," she instantaneously says.

"Haha," Lizzy laughed, dispirited, serving her sister a cup of tea. She offers you a cup too, but you politely refuse. "See, she isn't that bad," your bride whispers, "Though, it'll need some getting used to."

"You left home four months ago? Assuming to join the hero on a quest?"

"It's more so for training. It took almost a year after to defeat all four generals," Lizzy explains.

Stepping forwards to Henriet, you lower all three chests from your back and present two of them to her. The elder sister's eyes grow as round as your dearest Elisabeth at the expensive pair of cases. There, you open the chests' lid, presenting your gift. "I hope that these chest of gold may be a sufficient price for the dowry. And proof to you that I'm capable of providing Elisabeth, along with any prospective children we may have. This fortune was earned through my previous work as a guardian to..." Your bride elbows you, poking at your waist. "... My former employer. Regardless, I hope that this is satisfactory."

Henriet picks up a heavy coin, the midday's sunlight reflecting off of it. She then drops it back into the chest, asking for you to put it by a wall, and to keep the second one that was displayed. "What you gave me is... unexpected. One whole case can last a life longer than any man. Granted, if the economy here, in this kingdom, stays healthy. On another note, you're rather tall. I've seen knights, but you're at a peculiar height." The sister inspects you from top to bottom. Growing tired, she releases herself from the detective mode, grinning. "Anyways. You have given more than what I'll ever need or want. Just that one is fine, Ulysses," hinting at the singular case of riches.

"C-Could you give me your blessing as well?! Not to be, er, pushy," you furthered, thoroughly elated.

"Of course. Of course. A nice man like you is perfect for my little Liz," hands clasped together lovingly. Henriet requests that you lower your head even closer. You fulfill the command, feeling her lips touch the head of your helm. "That's my blessing. For a man who's wrapped in a cold shell, it's oddly warm beneath."

"I. That's... Thank you, madame Henriet," giving up on conveying your flustered state. Lizzy, who has spectated most of your interaction, sways to and fro upon observing her sister kiss your plumed helmet.

To not leave your bride out of the fun, you ask for a kiss from her as well, lifting up your visor. In spite of her musings, she pushes herself closer to you, pecking your lips for three seconds before gasping for air. Swept within the moment, she forgot to breathe. Henriet giggles, applauding her mouse of a sister.

"Could I borrow a room of yours, Henriet? For at least a few days, please. We'll be looking at our housing options in the meantime; preferable near your home, so we can come over to see how you're doing," addressing the elder sister for her judgment.

"There's not much that I can spare, sadly. You can sleep in the living space, down the hall perhaps. Or, maybe, sleep together with Liz here," she says with a tease. Separating the playful tone, the message was clear. Finding it out simply made your armor into a steamer, but it'll be a lie if you say that you didn't want to share a room. "Her childhood room is still the same ever since she left with the that Luther fellow."

"Sis, do you know what you're entailing!" Liz says in an outrage. "You know that... I need to prepare myself," fingers tweedling amongst themselves.

"Is that so? All's fine either way, Ulysses. Just make sure that you're both ready till that time comes."

Excusing yourself, you let the two sisters talk with each other, as it has been a long since they've met. While you're free, you clean the living room that's just as messy as Henriet's study, producing a neat result out of a thirty minute elapse.

Lizzy comes to you, her sister withdrawing to the opposite direction with a contented profile. "You sure made yourself at home, Ulysses. Was wondering about all that shuffling in the corridor."

"Just salvaging all the space that I can get. That couch over there is too small for me," you said with a snicker. The two chests that have been kept are stored at the side of said furniture, sitting idly until they're to be opened for future expenses.

Lizzy yells down the corridor to tell Henriet where she's going, a faint response of, "Be safe," coming back to her. The lighting under the forest canopy isn't any different than inside the house. It makes up for its scenic life, leaves moving along the wind's command. A path leads deep into the varying hues of green; for how long it goes: you do not know. It's close from being overtaken by the temperate jungle, grasses and shrubs growing over the divided, coarse dirt that paves a direct way.

"Over here! This is the pond I told you about," alarmed your bride. You remove your helmet to behold the glistening waters better, your hair that wraps around your neck--- resembling fur much -- replicating the leaves' shifting. "Someone trashed my rod," Lizzy lamented upon finding her old fishing pole under foliage debris. "Must've been one the kids from that schoolhouse. Wait. Might be deer," discerning the tracks that surrounded the site of her discovery.

Regretfully, she throws the pole into the thicket, grabbing your arms so she can set you down by the pond's edge. Hesitantly, as she stood over you for a good second, she sits in your lap, wrapping your mantle around you and herself.

"This forest reminds me of the number of times you tried to escape. Dearest, you're aren't as shy as you were before, you know. A week's time did a lot for you."

"When you're with a guy that you can't get away from, it's more of a matter of 'when.' 'When' will I get used to him. And soon enough, I did, with a little help from how much he does for me: killing monsters 'n stuff to protect... You're cute without your helmet on," Lizzy added, looking down to stave off the embarrassment from the compliment. Digging into your torso, she tightens her swaddle. "You're mane's fuzzy."

"That's pure Canis demon blood, Elisabeth. The strength, the horns, the eyes, ears and, obviously, the hair. Wraps around my neck too much so I'm thinking of tying it up."

"Then that's for later, Ulysses. I want to indulge in the fuzz some more. A demon dog to the stupid bone. Doesn't make sense with a human face like yours."

"My appearance is plenty of demon-like. The skin's all rough, and I know it's not from scars."

"Just... stay like you are," your bride says. "I wish I brought something to swim with."

I'm enjoying this so far, I've always liked slice of life stories in fantasy worlds. There never seems to be enough around here for some reason...

Anyway, from what he's described as looking, I've been Imagining Ulysses like the big brother of Lothric from Dark Souls 3, but slightly more draconic-looking, and not shuffling on his knees.
>>
>>3359488
Slice of life is actually hard to write because you can very easily not have a plot.

This is a fun little quest. Everything kinda progressed at lightning speed though, I think doing so made things significantly harder on yourself QM. You cut yourself off from a lot of scenes and material.

Wait I have a theory in mind that the MC may have been something else before he became a guard dog.

So far he's too gentle and honorable for a servant of a demon, and he seems to know wedding traditions which seems to be not known among the evil dudes.
>>
>>3359974
He's been cursed by the demon king and the cure for the seal to be purified is by having lovely dovey sex for the sole purpose of procreation which is the ultimate proclamation of love.
>>
>>3359972
Luther would probably know that our love is genuine if he could notice how serious we are. The most hardest one we could convince is the elf ranger. We can make their party priest as our wedding priestess.
>>
>>3359979
I can't also wait for our eternal sister-in-arms to hunt for us because she also likes to be proposed the same as our beloved wizard. She is just too tsundere and just failed to notice us because she is too busy hating us.
>>
>>3359703
Well I'm pretty sure we're gonna have a lot of obstacles from now on
>>
>>3359979
convincing elf-ranger will be fun, she was the one that refused our deal the most, so she probably is the one there that cares for Liz the most, she is probably furious with Lance for letting that plan go through.

excellent bride's maid material
>>
>>3360015
>*at night*
>Liz wake up, she did a spell in you did he?
>No I'm not under a spell I swear Irie
>H-hey, did you try to dispel it right priest?
>I detect no evil, curse or ailment
>Luther, do something
>W-what? I can't do anything. I mean he said that I'm going to be his best man along with that Orc leader we fought before.
>I can't believe you everyone! You're all beyond corrupted by this demon
>W-well he has a soft hair
>Liz says it's very fluffy
>I admit I tried to touch it. Very fluffy.
>Luther!
>Sorry.....

And so, the ranger decided to break to the group and gone home to the elf forest where she kidnaps Liz wanting to convene with the High elf apothecary and priestesses. With our new party member Luther the hero, Elizabeth the elder sister, the noble priest and plus one, will they ever traverse and find the forest of illusion? Will the wedding be delayed again because of another demon who felt betrayed? Will another refuse their love affair because someone is of demon heritage? But I know that a love will bloom on the battlefield.
>>
>>3359453
Hey QM do Demon have wedding traditions in this world because I never really heard about married demons
>>
>>3360112
There are certainly wedding rituals, but... I think it's too intense for Lizzy here. It's all up for interpretation, though.

"... If you'd like, I could help you hold your hand so you could keep your head above water..." For being one from a ferocious, warring race, you've become alike to a cherry-flavored cuttlefish.

"I can swim by myself, Ulysses. Everybody below your height isn't a child. But I could cool off right about now." All Lizzy took off was her cap and cloak. Upon depriving herself of the wizards' symbol of occupation, she looks to be nothing more but a country girl; underneath is only a simple cotton dress. Her boots were next to be placed aside. "I haven't shown this much of myself to anybody," she says, expecting you to understand the importance of revealing a common outfit. "I-If you would please, your hand."

You shed the rest of your armor as well. Everything above the waist is revealed under the mild sunlight, as in, your leggings stayed on to sustain your decency to your bride. Delicately, you take a hold of her soft fingers while you steep yourself in the pond's crystal clear water, Lizzy gradually being enveloped as well. By the time you both reach the center, everything below her neck is submerged, using you as some kind of pole to keep afloat. To you, sitting into the pond would only wet a portion of your torso.

The two of you lost track of time. It was as if the sky couldn't stand waiting for people, clouds driving past at a noticeable pace. From blue to pink, from pink to a dark abyss, laden with the finest gems. Lizzy said that it's because of summer. Or was it spring?

You do not understand the seasons. Is the change from Mother Earth? Whom she dictates whether a certain interval of time gets more rain or snow? Again, you don't know. But your bride, Lizzy, does; she says there's no real reason why the seasons change, just that it follows the birds.

During your trip, where her feelings of escape were reconciled and had started creeping towards the long path of affection --- a path that has yet to be much completed, however, midway met with abundant promise--- she shared a story about how the Sun, the Rain, the Wind, and Snow fought over a specific hunter. He would honor each element every day, through sickness or robust heat, or swamping waters. The maidens loved him for it, and so, bickered over who got more time to spend with him. But that wasn't all. They loved him for his flute that he performed for each woman. High tempo recitals for the Sun, a low lament that imitates the Rain's monsoon, the simple yet lively tune for the Wind, and calming songs throughout the Winter's turn.

" 'I know a way,' " Lizzy said. By then, you were traversing an odd forest. The trees were thin, and bared leaves just as shapely. " 'I know a way. I'll visit the Wind and the Snow in the south. The Sun and the Rain in the north. That way, we can all be content.' And, um, one thing led to another and that's how the songbird was created. I think..." The story fell flat due to Lizzy's inability to remember the specfics of the story. But you appreciated it. For, seasons don't exist in the demon regions; your small curiosity was only kept alight by a human hermit that you ran into while you were young. A hermit that entertained you before you became the demon king's 38th guard dog for his castle's gate--- the 38th to take such title and place upon the demon king's 38th resurrection, each revival costing eight-hundred years or so. The same goes for the four generals; roles are taken up and passed down to whom fate has decided as. Still, now, you wondered why an old human lived in your home of origin.

"I don't get it." To appease the loss of her old fishing rod, you made a spear out of simply shaping a tree branch. The darkened evening is illuminated by fire, burning at the pond's borders. "Ah!" Lizzy uttered, finally catching a total of a singular game with your guidance.

Well he's a knight which explains his civilry, but also only worked for the demon king for the pay so it's not really all that suprising that a goid enough deal was enough to let the party pass. As for the personality, no one said demons/monsters had to be evil and not have similar traditions to humans in this setting. There are plenty of settings that play with the usual fantasy tropes and make the usual human/monster conflict a bit more grey. They're more demons in the jrpg sense, than old school western sense.

"Good job, dearest Elisabeth. It'll make a fine meal, indeed!"

"For a human, that is. Could you cook it before it's too late?" giving you the catch. And, with full cooperation, you do, watching your bride eat up the fish within a damp dress. "It's weird if your eyes are on me while I eat..."

"That's what you said last time, and the time before that," you joked, petting her head. "Here, dry yourself." Lizzy promptly takes your mantle, but instead of using it to soak up the coating water, she goes behind the bush to hide. A minute later, she comes out with the cotton dress rolled up, along with all of her clothing articles, held under her arm while your mantle served her alone.

"I'm going to hang up my clothes once we get back to Henriet's. Just... don't glare down at me too much, Ulysses," blushing.

Evidently, there's no proof that she could hold against you if you were to peep. The dark's too much of a shroud once the fire has been put out. However, you're happy either way.

As Lizzy herself stated, she stayed outside for a bit to hang up her wetted dress for the morning. The reasoning was that: "The cold air will dry it during the night. The morning Sun will make it feel fluffier." All from her sweet lips. The recollection is extinguished when your bride walks through the door, returning to her room to fit herself in nightwear. You thought that she'd sleep right away, but when the moon made its appearance, Lizzy was by the living space's passageway. She brought a pillow with her.

You don't move, terminating all instructions from the brain to maneuver a muscle. Your bride doesn't realize, tiptoeing near your person and setting the pillow behind you, just right where your head lays. Your mantle has also been taken outside to dry; a cold's breath comes in contact with her body from the open window --- unlocked by you to renew the stagnant air within the living room --- compelling her to cuddle with your own body, falling asleep by the internal heat that you exude. With her arms locked around the neck, there's but one choice: to stay still. Even through her kitten's purrs that blow at your hair.

You're let loose from the grip that you swear not to break, Lizzy waking up near nine or ten in the morning. That's what you read from the faraway clock, as you have to squint your eyes to correctly translate it. Henriet hasn't stirred too.

"How were your dreams, dearest?" you say to the half-waken wizard. Lizzy mumbles something under her breath, but you couldn't catch it; however, it was ultimately unimportant. Everything that a person says when his or her conscious isn't all there doesn't carry as much impact when fully present. You style a placid grin. "I like your nightgown. It's really..." losing the benevolent smirk upon looking down and up your bride's figure, "... 'light' in its cloth's quality. Soft, to mention as well."

"Mhmm." It takes a moment for her to process your word. She then examines herself, the surrounding knowledge hammering in the figurative caffeine into her heart. To do justice for the sins of her absent-minded state, she pulls up the collar of her pajamas and fixes herself into a proper, obligatory, standard. "H-How long was I like that?"

"Not for long, I guess. A handful of seconds."

'G-Good. I should be getting something for us to eat, don't I?" She mirrors your tranquil expression, failing, as her mouth is being molded by anxiety like clay.

The best that Lizzy can do for breakfast is spread some berry sauce on slices of bread. Her sullen mood about the level of her culinary skills are deterred upon encouragement from you, the tangy taste of the jam satisfying your bride. Again, Henriet has yet to stir.

Something large enough for a family of four or five, plus a guest. Has to be made out of stone, we've torched plenty of wooden homes back in the bad old days. And it needs to be a bit out of town, in case someone like Agarma decides to pay us a visit with a few friends...

"Elisabeth." You direct her contemplations to yourself. "I'm thinking about our housing options. Would you like to build it somewhere, or buy one? Personally, I want to construct it in the fields within Haybel's outskirts."

"Could you specify? I want to say that I'm not comfortable in some remote location."

Listening, you make note of your bride's preferences from here on out. "Not near the roads so we can have our own privacy. But at a close vicinity of the town, enough to walk over to visit whoever."

"If that's the case, anywhere that can contain Haybel in view." Lizzy finishes the last of her bread, and so do you.

"There's also the matter of material."

"Knowing you, you wouldn't be satisfied with simply wood." And she is correct, for if your colleagues or anyone that holds a grudge against you come, it'd be better if it stayed out of the public eye. Agarma is a special concern, as her track record of revenge has always been exacted throughout every instance. That doesn't mean she wins all of them, it's that she finishes them, victorious or not.

"I want to make it out of stone to avoid any fire hazards. Well, mostly make it out of it. Also large enough to hold a family of four or five, in addition to a guest's room."

The hazel-haired girl almost chokes on a cup of water, "four or five" tripping her reflexes. Once recomposed, she asks for clarification. "Th-That's how many you want...?"

The two of you get back on track. Lizzy, more so. "Since you're a wizard, would you want a tower? It'd have an observatory at the top, the interior consisting of anything you need to study."

"That doesn't sound bad at all, actually. I wouldn't want it too tall, though; I'm not so good with heights."

"So an elevated room or two?"

Lizzy nods her head in the affirmative. "A tower that can be treated like any other room on the house. Maybe a training ground behind it and the main structure. To practice our skills and all that." Mimicking her, you return an approving nod of your own.

An arm raises itself to your chin, iron colliding with iron from your suit as you casually pose in a thinking manner. But there's no time to think over things with a complex lens whenever your bride's sitting in front of you, cute as a button. A chuckle escapes you. "We got the core aspects in mind, but that can't be all. Dearest, is there anything on your mind that you would want to add before it's put on a map? An appeal to your childhood?"

Pondering the query, she answers with a low, however complete, tone. "A big bedroom. I've always wanted to have something a bit grand. Having a somewhat lavish room is what comes to me immediately, particularly a large bed."

This is a good spot guys. A forest with some clearing in front of the house near the pond that we swim. We can catch fish there and we can get wood there if we need it. It's not far from the town and we have a neighbor called Henrietta nearby.

The lack of Henriet lures the hazel-haired wizard to her sister's door. With a knock, she says, "Are you awake? I and Ulysses are going somewhere."

A crash reverberates on the other side of the door, followed by the sound of dropping books. "Ah! Uh, okay! I hope you have fun out there!" Henriet replied, muffled.

Lizzy sighs, rounding you up by the gauntlet to leave the house. She worries about her sister's well-being, but it's how she is. The moment that everything's tidy, she'd trip over something, nonexistent or not, causing the collapse to undo the work. The lax woman does her best, and that's what matters, right?

Just like your first time, where you came into Haybel yesterday, the townspeople look at you with unease. Lizzy tries to cheer you up: "Don't let it get to you. You're just a sudden change. Before you know it, they'll forget their fear and move on once your stay has been proven harmless." Truth has been reinforced when you overhear a child question his mother. She simply answered with, "It's a city knight, sweetie. The ones that you pretend to be with your friends."

Turning away from the faces passing by, you replace your soothed disposition. " 'Preciate it. Now, aren't you being a bit full of yourself?" noticing the wizard's proud visage after assuring you.

Swiftly, it regresses. "I... I'd like to feel bigger at some point... It's something that I needed to share at some time. And you being a bumpkin to us. it felt enlightening."

"Hahaha! I'm not saying that you should stop, dearest. Pointing it out a bit too teasingly was bad on my part. Keep that smile! Smile!~"

"Geez."

Out in the fields, but steering clear of the rye crops, both of you scout out the perfect location for your house. A depression made interest to you and your bride. It's close enough to keep the town in its view, unclouded by any encroaching forest, and sustains a sense of aloofness at the same time. Not too far from it, another pond. The body of water is smaller than the one inside the forest. But the quality of its material and the aquatic life is nonetheless replicated.

Pleased with this plot you've found, you return to the dirt path and back into Haybel. You're hoping that there would be someone to contract, but it seems futile.

"Wait here, Ulysses. Let me ask around," your bride asked. Obeying, you watch her go from citizen to farmer about your predicament. She comes to you with what you need. "There are guys up north from the town's square. A team of dwarves."

"I guess that the talking is handled by you, huh? It was only twenty-something before you had info on a potential contractor."

"Not to remind you of your position here as an outsider, but the townsfolk know me. 'Heroes' party wizard' does help at moment like these, furthering familiarity. C'mon, let's go before the Sun's at its zenith!"

Lizzy takes the lead, as you're ignorant to Haybel's infrastructure. What you first believed as a farming town is disproven by the collection of merchants and their wagons. Apparently, this place is considered as a checkpoint to the kingdom's capital. Because of so, the northern portion, which holds a road toward's said capital, has been morphed into an accommodating junction.

Walking down the street behind your bride, something catches your eye. A young man clothed in a red ceremony garb, bangs covering an eye. He makes eye contact with you; Lizzy proceeds to enact the same process.

The crowd is preoccupied; without causing too much of a disturbance, you walk over to this familiar figure. He doesn't move, as, at the last second, you prevent him from escaping by grabbing his shoulder. Stimulated pressure points make him squeal silently, stretched and frozen in front of you.

"He~y! It's been a while, hasn't it?" he says, feigning an unhurt countenance.

Although you hold an iron grip on him, your mannerisms are as cordial with anyone else. "Likewise, Baal. What are you doing here of all places?"

"Where do I begin? But, for starters, could you lighten your hold on me---- Aghk!" yelping when another wave of urgency is relayed from his shoulder's nerves. "A-Anyways. A week ago, I tried to ambush the heroes despite my injuries from my last battle with them. But, with the help of my skills as a self-preserver, I found it suspicious that their wizard's gone. That alone struck me with fear, and so I retreated to safety, managing to gain refuge here... However, presently, I question: why is she accompanying you? I also thought you were dead or something! You weren't at the gate."

"What happened to the demon king? I was under the impression that the heroes won."

"I'm assuming that he is defeated. Just yesterday, I heard from some merchant folk that there'll be a parade at the capital, a celebration for the heroes' return. Is she not participatin' in it?" hinting at your bride.

For most of the conversation thus far, Lizzy hasn't spoken a word. "You're that demon general that got knocked out after one spell, no?" reminiscing of a forgettable foe.

"It's Baal! I even made a whole script for my entrance, but all I got for my toils was a thousand fire lances!--- a thousand spells, to correctly say!" The candle of exasperation within your comrade was snuffed out upon emptying his lungs. "If you meet that priestess again, give her my thanks for patching me up enough so that I didn't die."

"What are you doing on the side of the street?" you say, eager to manipulate the conversation's flow.

"Selling magic tools. The only thing that my aptitude in magic is good for. Though, things have been looking up."

"How so?"

"Been accumulating a sizable fund after I caught an eye of a couple of wizards. The stock's depleted, so I need to create more. For now, I'm just selling mana stones."

Baal's news was carried in a deadpan voice. Regardless of the tone, how he's selling his tools, tools produced from a demon general, is pretty dangerous. "Do you know what'll happen if people find out that you're a general? The kingdom's not gonna like it if that type of intel reaches an official's ears."

"Don't worry. Don't worry," using his right hand to project reassurance. "I've got tricks up my sleeve that'll prevent such things. Notice my horns?" Baal hailed from Tauros blood, their characteristics defined by strong builds and grand horns. As you can see, the demon general of the magic corp appears to have none. "Illusions do the trick, pal."

"Have you heard of anything from Agarma? Dametrie and Worm too?" The last occasion that you've since seen them was at a formal, rather heated, conference. The final one in fact. Separate operations take up a huge amount of time for each aspect of the demon king's force. That gathering was two months before you met Lizzy and her party.

"Nah, haven't so far. Agarma might, might be looking for you, though," Baal answered.

"Why's that?" The comrade's stress in his sentence puts you at a curiosity. The general of the demon king's army is of Aries, ironic when Baal's standing by her side, for he is uniquely weak and wispy. Juxtaposed, Agarma's the complete opposite of the magic corp leader; she nears your height, just a head shorter, and would use all options of physical prowess before resorting to magical means. Her horns whirled whilst a Tauros' own shoots upward like a stalagmite, but she never resembled anything like a docile sheep. Often, she'd keep her ashen brown hair into a bun, a much darker hue than Lizzy's, so it could fit in her helmet. You never felt it, but you imagine the hair's touch to be as soft as wool.

"I don't really know, man! Just seems like it to me. I've cut off all communications, and I presume that you did too, so who's to say? Hanging out with the heroes' wizard is a good enough reason for her to hunt your hide. She's always been a stickler for loyalty."

"Very well. Good luck in your endeavors, my friend. Just be careful, you might be on Agarma's wanted list for desertion too. We're both on the same boat. Also, here is my token of gratitude for your answers." You drop a handful of coins into Baal's palm, confusing the man.

"Generous, arent'cha?" pocketing the pay. "Not complaining, however. No complaints at all."

"Before I go, would you want to attend our wedding? We're planning to build a house in the town's southern outskirts, so the whole ceremony might be there."

"I'll... consider it." The pause left the general indecisive, during and after. "Could you let go now, please?"

Saved from the piercing burden on his left shoulder, Baal rubs the site of your hold profusely to aid its aching. You say the last of your farewells. Lizzy too, as her ten-second encounter with him left much to mull over about: does she trust him, or not? Both sides are equally invalid for the young woman and will need more of an impression to supplement.

Taking the reins of negotiation again, your bride converses with the team of dwarves, those who you've come to know about today. Most of your worth at this moment was to help "convince" them alongside your bride, as in staring with a baleful aura. You were so convincing that there weren't any problems in the contract process at all! And all you needed was another handful of gold to complete the demand. The dwarves' are quite humble, asking for half of the glimmering amount. "The hell? Are you some sort of undercover noble, lass?! Five pure golds are enough to facilitate payment and the materials!" was their reasoning. Eventually, you buckle, and only gave the sufficient trade of five instead of ten. Before long, after explaining and mapping out all the ideas of the household, you and Lizzy get back on the street under a midday sky. Three days and a week are what the crafters estimated for the house's completion. Best case, just a week.

"Do you want to visit the capital, dearest? It'll give us something to do while our house is being constructed."

"You mean it? The parade does sound interesting, and I'd like to see my friends." Lizzy gazes into the sky, concentrating on the clouds' sluggish speed. "Yeah. I'd want to see Lisviel city for a day."

"Just a day? Is that it?

The wizard nods. "Nothing more, Ulysses. You see, I haven't gotten used to life over there, during training and after before accompanying the hero's quest. So a day or enough time to attend the parade, and maybe see my friends, will be satisfactory. There's also Henriet. I need to make up for lost time with her. Or rather, assist her in her shenanigans."

"If that's what you desire, then I'll go along, surrendered."

"Hehehaha~!" For no discernable reason, your bride laughs at your proclamation. "Unique in your diction, as you may be, you'd need to abide by me the moment we step into Lisvelm's grounds. I'm your pass, to put it simply." Your idiosyncrasies do make for a notably suspicious fellow for any guards or officers, furthermore, you're aren't established in any order of knights in Melrose's territory. A solider would definitely welcome you with apprehension due to your foreboding spirit. Lizzy here is an excuse for all that. After all, if one of the heroes trust such a strange, decorated guard, then there must be a good explanation.

Invested in traveling to Lisvelm, you both journey back to Henriet's house. She was in her study, jotting down a few papers of notes for a certain flower. With a thorough, yet a small summary of tomorrow --- or perhaps the next two days, just to be safe --- Lizzy tells her sister of the parade.

Henriet gives the okay and requested something from the capital while you're there. Obligatory permission granted, you gather as much money as the trip entailed from one of your chests, Lizzy suiting up in her room. "Y-You like it?" she says upon coming out; your bride has adorned herself in a light-blue skirt. A blouse of the same color accompanied the lower-half. The boots haven't change. Slung over her shoulder is a bag containing her usual wizard's garb. And with the absence of her cap, her hazel-hued hair is left to drift freely in the air, curls at the end of each strand, that weren't noticeable at first, hypnotizing you. Henriet followed her so she can see you two off.

Lizzy's habitual nature to stare downwards under fierce nervousness lets her open to any attack. You sweep her off her legs, holding her in a princess carry that has become a normal way to take her into your arms. "I love it," you say into her sensitive ears. Beholding the picture, Henriet comments on your behaviors with glee. In return, as you start to walk out from the front door, you both say goodbye to the air-headed sister.

With the majority of the day at your disposal, you follow the trail of the northern road. Lizzy still remains in your arms, however, has made herself comfortable.

"Dearest Elisabeth, could I inquire about that elven ranger within your party? I want to be geared with the right information in order to show my good-will. The last time that I've seen her is when I first met you, and she didn't seem too enthusiastic about talking it out."

"Irie? She's the third princess in the kingdom of Sylrae. If I remember, that place is eastward from where we are." Lisvelm is founded on the western coast of the continent Euelis. The country of topic occupies a north-eastern position in the land. It is not to be confused with the adjacent eastern continent, Qinxu, that of which is bordered by a stubborn range of mountains. "As you would've guessed, elves don't like the demon race very much."

"They're a prideful bunch, I know. And being so isn't wrong, in my opinion. Would do without the antagonistic approach though, to have a chance of understanding."

"People are weird, Ulysses. They don't like stuff for unknown or silly reasons. I can find common ground with your words, indeed, but remind yourself that people will always be weird to each other."

"True. Hitherto the idea, I have you as a prime example," Lizzy's vulnerable ears shooting up. You laugh it off, "Moving on, what about the person?"

She coughs, collecting her thoughts. "Irie's usually laid-back. A good hunter and versed with her country's own studies of magic. The use of spirits helped us through tricky terrain, especially when we reached the demon region. You could call her a tomboy, I reckon. But there are times where she rivals Lorelei, our priest, in girlish attitudes. A tad short-sighted in exchanges just like yours when you saw her; always ready to nock an arrow without thinking."

They are fighting with one person less tough, that's worse than fighting with no consumables because at the very least you lose 1/4 of your attack power(or even more if the wizard is the heavy hitter).

"While we have the moment to ourselves, is there anything that you want in our wedding? I think that Irie girl would be a great bride's maid."

"She would. Her comprehension of ceremonies is an out of place trait of hers, I would point out. But your hopes rely on the chance that she doesn't shoot first. Also, teasing is a no go. She shares a complex that's quite widespread for female elves."

"Yes. Yes. I understand, dearest," memorizing her dos and don'ts. "On the other hand, how 'bout, er, Lorelei! She could be the priestess for the wedding."

Lizzy tips her head to think. "She's an easier person to cooperate with. There'll be no qualms if you request her presence for our wedding date. While we're touching on these sorts of plans, I'm trying to figure out Luther..."

"Hmm? Does he have a love for the priestess?"

"No, he doesn't. He'd always talk about this baron's daughter, a childhood friend. Wanted to help her elevate in status upon becoming Lisvelm's hero, and now that he succeeded --- presumably --- it'd be expected for him to visit her. I wouldn't be any less wary of his action, however. Just like Irie. Your reveal might influence him to tag along if he hasn't done anything that I explained."

The sound of a strong stream of water intrudes on your talk. It comes from your left. The force of its motion doesn't produce a clear quality, unlike the two other ponds that you have grown fond of, foaming at pushing ripples. Its embankment has been invaded by tall grass and cattails, assimilated into the modest land around it, although pretty under a scenery-orientated sense. A fish jumps out, capturing your admiration briefly.

Pulling yourself away from the scene, you continue. "There's also where we want to hold it."

"The site of our new house is a good place. We can commemorate both its construction and our marriage. Preferably, behind its body, or late afternoon when the farmers start to retreat, so any probable instance that a traveler will see it will be reduced." Outsiders' attention will, doubtlessly, be troublesome. Your intent on inviting Bolswine, and the chance that Baal comes as well, sways you to support your bride's suggestion.

Riding the afternoon's wind, a tall mass starts to form up ahead. It's Melrose's capital, Lisvelm, its pristine barrier of white rock marking the land. Lizzy tells you to set her down, shaking her legs as they've been asleep. The ability to walk regained, she goes up to the guards. They recognize her, and with a word to let you in, you're safe to enter the city.

The main streets are fashioned in extravagant decor, dying flowers coating the chiseled ground. "We missed it..." Lizzy muttered.

You apologize to the glum Lizzy, regretting the speed of your feet and how your mind was stolen from the trip. "It's okay, Ulysses. At least they're here," she says, pulling herself together from such a negative mode.

"Why don't we search for Lorelei? She must be at some cathedral or church," you bring up, wanting to meet with one of her friends at the end of the day at least.

The two of you go down the street, allowing Lizzy to remind herself of the city's aspects: from the circuiting brick roads and to its prized castle, mounted on top of a hill. "I have some idea where she might be."

Another building is as grand as Palace Lisvelm, the dedicated cathedral, matching the level of decadence. Its area is self-contained, the rest of the environment divided by a stone wall that circles around itself. The wall isn't tall, and one may be able to climb over it with a strong jump. Its giant doors are engraved with holy men, through it, a hall that spans a huge distance. The pews assume a stance that makes them look alive, the illusion of unity cast by their countless number. At the end of the nave and centered within the transept, a pulpit. Over the pulpit, a painting of a goddess. You do not know the pictured entity --- however beautiful --- but still, you nod your head as you pass by it.

Lizzy snags a nun, asking for Lorelei's whereabouts. The woman of faith takes you to the transept's right wing, where a winding case of stairs are, and into the upper compartment of the religious structure. Her tone shifts in a way that insults you, fearing your interaction and catering to your bride. The presence of the woman wasn't long, as your dismayed emotions dissipate upon her leave; she left you in front of a room.

Entering, you see that it's a library of sorts. Its entire wall, the one that looks out to the city, is wholly built with glass, providing a convenient observatory. A telescope's set up there, projected upwards into the sky, albeit empty of human intervention. Lizzy calls out, "Lorelei?"

"Huh? L-Lizzy?!" From the aisle beside you, the shelf obscuring the priestess' image, Lizzy's friend reveals herself. Instantly, she throws herself onto the hazel-haired wizard, not even noticing you until you're caught in her peripherals for the third time. "Y-You?!"

You don't reply, for Lizzy can handle her own friend better. "O-Oh. Yes, he's here. With me," the wizard trying to settle the excited priestess.

"Lizzy, weren't you kidnapped? For a moment, as we came back from the castle, I thought that you were killed! The scarcity of any bloody remnants kept me from believing murder!"

Your neck jerks forward so you can state yourself, a reaction that you stopped with success. "Well, he~ere I am now! Not dead at all! Listen, I've, we've been through a few things, and what I may say might sound crazy. But---"

"You must be cold from traveling out! H-Here, sit, I'll fix something for you to drink! And... you..." Lorelei's gaze freezes on your body; a scholars expression that's upheld during her pondering. It is broken when her thought-to-be-lost companion grabs a hold of her, shaking the priestess like a rattle in a fit to restore her sanity.

"We're together, Lorelei! As in, we're couples!" The private announcement trumpeted in more than one of the five physical senses within Lorelei. After resetting herself a new --- dusting her dress despite being no dust to clear away, and fixing her blonde hair whose strands were misplaced --- the priestess serves the two of you in a tamer disposition.

"Could you repeat that?" Lorelei says. When under control, you can examine the youthful bluntness of her features: pretty cheeks; a look that soothes the soul wrapping the beguiling package.

"Me and Ulysses are together. Wanting to visit you aside, we were thinking that if you could come to our wedding to complete the ceremony for us."

"... You're together? The demon king's guard dog expressed his love for you and all, but you're actually going through with it? W-What happened?"

"It's... complicated. The answer isn't all there, but something sparked between us," Lizzy coming to use flowery language.

"Lorelei, we have been staying at my dearest's home town, Haybel, for the past day or two. Also, a house for us is already under construction. That should give you an idea of how deep we are in this relationship."

"So that's where she was," the priestess replied, shoulders drooping. She asks for a moment to herself, to which you and your bride permitted freely. Soon, your host comes back after having three minutes to herself, the sudden flow of information organized within her conscious. "I'm willing to attend your wedding date," Lorelei finally says. The two of you light up with joy. "But, please bear with me, I still cannot comprehend the odd pairing. Lizzy, as a friend, what do you like about him? And, gatekeeper, forgive my impudence. This is not to offend you."

"I understand clearly. Be at ease," you say, petting Lizzy's hair without knowing yourself. She hasn't stopped you, relishing the head massage.

Your gauntlet taken off your bride's crown, Lizzy pays attention to the question at hand. "What I like about him?..." ego reversing into her previous mouse-like demeanor, "... Well, he has prevented my death many times during our journey through the demon region. I have to thank him for that. But, of course, there has to be more than just gratitude. As I said before, it's complicated. I may have undergone the same process as him, getting lovestruck out of nowhere. However, he has made me acknowledge a few feelings that are too intimate to admit." She locks her arms behind herself, beginning to twist a leg into the floor. "Childish feelings, romantic fantasies that he induced, and even carnal ones. Being around him enables 'em, and I don't want them to... stop," forcing the word through her hesitant wall of a mouth. "Like a dream, you know? You don't want to leave it. And the moment you do, you forget about it. There's also the fluffiness of his hair."

When I saw Lizzy and the rest of the party, it was love at first sight. She seemed beautiful to me, more than anyone I had ever seen. So I, um, watched her while they weren't at the gate, and I yearned for her more and more. She was so kind and tender, so loyal to her friends. They looked happy around her. I wanted to be happy, like them-- oh, am I rambling? Forgive me.

"Miss Lorelei, I have lived for a long, long time. I have seen kingdoms grow from hamlets and topple from their own weight, only to restart as a hamlet anew. I have long thought that my interests would mostly remain with martial perfection and loyalty to my former patron, never once assuming the option of romance would come into my life. All I can say was that the moment I saw her, I felt like I would imagine a stained glass window would when it's final pane is placed into it's frame: Complete."

The heat within your helmet can only be tolerated for so long. And so, you take it off, fanning yourself with but a hand while your face remains slightly flushed. The moment you can sustain a cooler temperature, you express your feelings too. Under the pressure, you couldn't help but replicate Lizzy's leg twisting motion. "Miss Lorelei, it was love at first sight. She seemed beautiful to me, more than anyone I had ever seen; a flower in the demon king's desolate plains. The strength of such an unexpected passion made me forget about martial perfection and loyalty to my previous patron, issuing a reflection that, in the depths of my soul, I found that Elisabeth is the one. Like how the final pane of a stained glass window is placed into its frame: complete. So does our hearts, each half combining into one whole. She's tender and kind; never once did she stop worrying about her friends until now. That is what I love, for that is my Elisabeth and her true self." Inhaling heavily to the rest your throat, you scratch behind your ear. "It's an undeniable feeling, miss. We hope that you understand, along with helping her friends see the same way. But I must excuse myself from rambling, don't I?" you say with a nervous grin.

Lorelei mulls your speech for a bit, gesturing with eyes closes and arms crossed. "I see... It seems that I was overreacting." Her still mouth brightens up gently, encouraging you to do the same. "This was unforeseeable on my part. But if it makes Lizzy happy, then I'll have to back you up. The way you talked was rather heartfelt, unordinary for our wizard here if I would add."

"S-So everything's fine with you?" your bride addressed for the second time. She is met with a sure nod from her friend. You hug her, as the moment supplied the opportunity, her aforementioned tenderness heating your hold as she returns the embrace.

Thanking Lorelei, you ask if she can call the ranger Irie. It is best to forge a bridge between you and her as soon as possible. You wouldn't want anything ugly to go down, and, at best, dissuade her distaste into indifference. That's just what you pray for, though.

Lorelei says that she can get in contact with the elven princess, although for tomorrow. You underestimated your feelings' properties to enrapture reasonable sight, forwarding the clock as you go on about your love. Nevertheless, to the merry, it's time spent well.

Navigating yourselves from the cathedral, you begin to look for an inn. Evening approaches, and you'll need a place to stay for the rest of the night. Lizzy, becoming more comfortable with your love, holds your hand as she brings you to the richer part of Lisvelm. "I rarely use an inn, but from what I know, higher class means higher quality," your bride says, her boots resounding lightly on the pavement. The surrounding streets that live near the elevated palace are distinctly cleaner: white cement reflects the littlest amount of light, the red bricks that make up the ground are swept well --- granted, at certain areas, as no one can maintain cleanliness at the environment's huge scale --- and shining black coaches utilize the open paths.

Ultimately, you do find yourselves a place to stay. The fee was as easy to fulfill as the dwarves' contract. Given the key to your temporary room, you perceive a singular large bed. This very building, titled "White Night" doesn't lie in its offers. The luxurious abode's arranged in an oddly pleasing way, a fresh fragrance permeating the air. There's a door to the bathroom, a translucent frame displaying the tub; it's all the more devious, for it can only pronounce a person's silhouette on the other side. The aforementioned bed is filled with velvet plush, its sensation enough to make you drowsy. On a dresser, a bottle of wine and a set of glasses.

Conflicting thoughts roll over each other. Looking for another inn will be a pain for Lizzy. But sticking here puts privacy at risk, namely the singular bed, the wine, and the questionable bathroom frame. "I-I picked poorly, did I?" the hazel-haired girl, who you continue to hold hands with, inquired. Swiftly, you comfort her naive decision.

> What do you do?
