Previous thread: >>3358095
Previously on Persons of Interest:

You successfully talked with a bully without, well, getting bullied. A high feeling that didn't last very long because a cop car passed by, asking if you know the girl on the backseat arrested for shoplifting. Your sister, Cam. While you planned to pretend not to know her, your bully quickly points your relation out, leaving you with no choice but to lead the policeman back to your abusive father, which you dreaded more than anything.
Your father quickly orders you to go to your room, which was when you noticed something strange in your fathers command. A compulsion behind it. You managed to fight against it and eavesdrop on his conversation with the policeman. It was normal until the same type of command was spoken by your father. He merely told the policeman that he had already paid a fine and that the policeman remembers it.
The policeman left and you quickly bailed into your room, trying to process what just happened. As absurd as it sounds, but your father possesses some form of mind-control!
When you heard your sister cry out loud you left your room again in hopes to save her somehow. At first you just grab a bottle as a makeshift weapon and urge him to stop, but just to spite your 'heroism' he stabs her. You throw the bottle at him and grab the shotgun that's always by the door. He grabs your sister as a human shield but she disappears into thin air, so you shoot. Her invisible form stumbles towards you and turns visible again as she looses consciousness. You then shoot at your father again, killing him for good.
You call 911 and get instructions for first-aid during which you discover you have the ability to take someone elses wound onto your own body, healing them in the process, while simultaneously regenerating yourself within seconds. Deciding to leave some wounds on Cam as physical proof of what happened and what you already told the 911 operator you barely heal her beyond immediate life threatening bleeding and the sinews allowing her movement.
When she woke up again in the ambulance, she seemed to blame herself for the situation and barely reacted at all to your confession of killing your father. She did start to cry though, but when you tried to wipe away her tears she faced away from you, a nasty stab into your emotions.
After arriving in the hospital and being told you can't follow her into surgery you talked to the same policeman who had arrested her earlier today. You told him the truth about what happened and were able to convince him that your father has had some incredible charismatic tricks up his sleeves without saying anything about paranormal powers.

Amendments from last thread:
The second shotgun blast should have blown Cam's eardrums out as it was just above her head, but in her next conscious scene she can hear just fine without the protagonist ever healing her. This can be amended to him having done just that.

And now we continue...
>>
Officer Jackson truly contemplates your words and comes to the right conclusion. “Son of a-”, the insult, of course, directed to your late father for being able to trick him so easily.

“Yeah,” you agree, “you try living with him without-” killing someone. You shouldn't have said that. “uhh...” -going insane? No that's not a good one either. “-feeling like kicking yourself?” You almost phrased it like a question, looking to see if the police officer took your save well. The pause in between that sentence was too long, it felt like almost 4 days in your head, but it couldn't have been that long. “And with whatever mind tricks he can, I now barely even know who I am anymore. Like, how many things was I doing because I wanted to do them or because he wanted me to do them?” Your head hurts.

He pats your back. “You're a good kid.”

The physical contact makes you somewhat uncomfortable, but you try not to show it. “Thanks, I guess?” You thank him as he moves away and to a reception area, asking for a room where you can take a shower.

While they can't give you your own room, nor has it been decided which room Cam will get, they offer you to take a shower by the gym and physical therapy section of the hospital. You are also given some baggy sweatpants and a t-shirt, but since the blood went through your pants, you figure you'll have to go commando. Maybe they have some boxers too, but you don't really want to ask.

When you leave the shower you're greeted by more policemen. Hospital staff tells you that Cam won't be waking up for at least another hour so you agree to make your statement. They take you to one of the waiting rooms and set up a camera on a tripod. “Please state the date and your name for the record.”

You look at the camera and take a deep breath. “Today's the Thursday, the 9th of March, 2001. My name is...”

>write-in
>>
only took us two weeks to get to character creation!

Dice system: roll low
There will be practically no rolling in this quest. Actions will be as good as their write-ins and the characters skills and abilities. But also what I think will be a more interesting narrative.
If you guys forget details that the character should know or the character could think of, I will let you roll to see if I tell you what you forgot. even though at this point you have the meta knowledge that you missed something... oh well, better than rolling an intelligence check before every decision
Things that are almost entirely up to chance, like throwing a rock without any proper throwing training, you get to roll a single time.

How I handle write-ins:
write-ins also have to occur naturally. I won't allow you to simply have an idea the protagonist would not naturally think of, or just buy the Art of War out of nowhere because you later want a strategy skill bonus or something

The character was already described as tall and lanky.
Make-shift solutions to broken items is okay, but fixing electronics is beyond you for mostly the lack of equipment. You don't get far without a soldering iron or replacement parts
elkos especially, but also, say, bearings for a CD-deck, or optical parts for it
that's not knowledge you simply get without internet or books. Or can you tell me what a component with 3 pins is that has 2SB881 on the side, where you would get one or what you could use as a replacement if you don't get the same one?

“My name is Christopher Connors, or Chris for short, and ahh... today after school I -” your public defendant waves and points to himself. “Uhm... right. Before I make my statement, I have had the time to consult with my lawyer privately. So, I get out of school at 3:40pm – I went to the bakery and the book store in Williams Drive before heading home. So maybe it was, like, quarter past four when I met Officer Jackson. I mean, I happen to run into three uhm... friends beforehand, we live in the same street. So, anyway, Officer Jackson...”

You begin to retell the story that you already relayed before, adding a few more detail, but of course leaving out the part about the mind-control, invisibility, and healing. It all sounds so fucking weird when you lay it out. But also really fucking bad. You simply didn't take the second shot in self defense, nor in Cam's defense. Not literally anyway. But here goes it anyway.

“...killing in defense of another person who would have had the right to use lethal force for self defense, a legal act in this jurisdiction, and as such my plea is /not guilty/ of homicide.”

Your lawyer gives you two thumbs up with a big smile, filling you with more confidence. You were lucky he was in the hospital for another issue already. Making an official statement without a lawyer present would have been seriously stupid. Even though you already talked to Jackson.
They stop the camera and you look towards the policemen. “What's going to happen now?”, you ask for probably the third time today, but for the first time with hope.

One policeman, a sergeant, scratches his head. “Unfortunately we'll have to take your sisters statement as well before we can let you talk to her alone, but that is not to say you can't meet her!” He quickly finishes after seeing your expression drop. “And technically we should still arrest you, but since you're so cooperative, we only keep an eye on you. We'll be shunned away by CPS soon though. That's the Child Protective Services, by the way. You'll probably not want to go back to – you know – your home, so they probably have some place for you to sleep.”

Where do you plan to spend the night?
>“No, I'll have to go home.”
>“Yeah, anything's better than going home.”

So I guess it's time to decide whether or not to attempt to use our Bio-sync to mindlink with her, to see if we can unmindfuck her.
As it is, we can blame our father's manipulativeness and say she has stolkholm syndrome if she testifies against us, especially if we don't unmindfuck her, but if we do happen to unmindfuck her she might act less predictably. HOWEVER there might be things we don't know yet about our ability. Can we control minds like Dad? Alter memories? Use other people's mouths to speak?

“Actually, I'd like to spend the night here. Near Cam, you know? For one I still want to know how she is doing after surgery, for another... well, I just want to be there for her. At least for today. Tomorrow they can take me somewhere else.”

After being told that this could probably be arranged you barely know what to do anymore. Cam was still in surgery without you getting any information on the process. You were pretty sure you've healed all the life threatening things, but then again, you probably healed over some of the shotgun pellets which now need to be cut out.

You wonder how much you can heal over things that were already mended by hand like surgery...

With so much time on your hand, and barely anything to do you ask Officer Jackson to just wonder with you for a bit up and down the hallway. He apparently thinks that moving around would help you, and, arguably, it does, but your real intentions are to find someone tho heal and experiment with your powers a bit.

You took the shower by the gym which was intended for people who want to get better, was it not? For those who just have to put in effort and probably get better.

“Fancy a workout?”, Officer Jackson asks.

“Something like that”, you answer, as you head inside.

Inside was less than you expected. A patted floor, a bar at the wall where one man tries to walk with the assistance of someone who was probably a physical therapist, a treadmill and some equipment on the floor you can only guess is for people to balance on. There is probably more in the cabinets on the far wall, but it looks rather baren.

“Excuse me, I didn't want to- walk in on someone...”, you say awkwardly, even though that was exactly the reason why you wanted to go in. but now that you are here you just feel awkward, and any look in their direction like an invasion of their privacy.

“No problem, kid.”

Even though you got the man's blessing to be in the same room as him while he struggles to walk normally you didn't feel like you've earned the right to gawk.

>Alright, showtime.

Alright, stop the presses, messiah coming through...

Let's not develop a complex.

You move to the treadmill and try to figure out it's controls. It can even move to change it's slope. Neat. You hop on and start it out with a brisk walk.

Then you close your eyes and concentrate.

You try to tune out Officer Jackson as he radios your location through and asks the therapist if it was even okay for you to use the treadmill.

The last few times you healed someone you were touching them. Or just Cam. And your father? You don't know, you've felt a connection, but it wasn't healing, was it? It's why you dubbed it bio-sync in the first place. Simply because you take a part of the other person and- you don't even know yet.

With your father you immunized yourself against his ability, but only when you actively had the bio-sync running. Maybe you'd be able to see through Cam's invisibility too if you sync with her while it's active? You just put it on the pile of questions in your head and open your eyes again.

The person you want to sync with is across the room. Whatever's wrong with him ought to affect his feet. But that could be a nerve in his spine or a region of his brain after having had a stroke.

Now, how do you reach out again?

Eyes close again and you concentrate.

You can't describe what you feel. It's like three blips are on your radar, without any indication of where they are, just that one is closer by. That one ought to be the officer. The other two? They seem different, but again, you had no idea how to describe it.

It was as if you were a blind man who could suddenly see, but nobody to guide you around to tell you which color is which. Confusing and kinda scary, but at least you're able to turn it off.

You open your eyes again to guesstimate which is which and if physical closeness and location could help you narrow it down, but you still have no idea. In the end you just try to memorize either feelings for the two men and pick one at random to see which is which.

Just as you finally muster up your courage to simply pick one someone enters the gym. A middle aged plump woman, who, at first, didn't seem sure she was in the right place, but then approaches and asks your name, “Christopher Connors? Yes. Hi. I am Amanda Carter, I'm with Child Protective Services.”

“Yes? Hello?” you slowly reduce the speed of the treadmill and step off it. “I'm Christopher Connors.”

On one hand you're glad you kinda lost the opportunity to use your powers. It means you can't mess up anything or have to experience that guy's pain. On the other hand, now you stand in front of a woman who may or may not be able to hold the rest of your life in her hand, or at least your chance of having Cam around.

“No need to be nervous, Christopher. I'm on your side.” She then turns to Officer Jackson and asks, “may I whisk Christopher here away? He may be more comfortable talking in a more private place?”

You look to the officer, “I don't really mind him.”

She nods. “I understand, of course, if you want him around, but I'm afraid I wasn't quite clear. I apologize for that.” She comes a little closer to you so the injured man and his trainer wouldn't be able to hear. “I'm a psychologist. Anything we discuss will be under doctor-patient confidentiality.”

Shit.

She's your shrink. She totally has the power to deem you murderously insane and destroy your chances of ever seeing Cam again.

Shit squared.

Be best.

“Yes, ma'am.”

She immediately catches your change in demeanor and frowns slightly. “Again, there's no need for you to be nervous, Christopher.”

There's a lot of need for you to be nervous, Christopher! The absolutely only thing you care about in this world is on the line! Okay, that may be a little overtly dramatic, but, besides Cam... there really wasn't anything else.

You don't really know how to respond and wait for her to take initiative again until she nods you to follow her. “I was given a small office on the second floor.” So you follow her, together with Officer Jackson, to the elevators. “Have you eaten yet?”

“Yes. But from, like, a vending machine”, you tell her.

“And do you still feel hungry?”

You kinda do, but you also didn't want to keep her waiting or something, and you weren't that hungry. You've dealt with far worse before. “No, I'm good.”

She looks at you slightly from the side, but accepts your answer. Not having gotten far she changes the topic. “You care a lot about your sister, don't you?”

>“She's my sister, of course, I do.”

You feel like the question is a minefield. Like probably every of her questions will be. If you're too positive about it she may think that you delude yourself into thinking taking hare of her would be easy.

“She can be a pain at times,” you admit, “but she's all I have left.”

The Psychologist nods and mentally files that information away before going to ask her next question. “What about friends or extended family, teachers maybe? Aren't there others you can count on?”

“Yeah...” you admit, it's not any sort of secret. You don't have any friends, no family that you'd know of either. And teachers- well, you usually try to fly below the radar. “No, I got noone.”

Again, she nods and leads you out of the elevator, heading to some office. “Then I think it's probably the best if you start telling me about your background a little. I'm afraid to say that I have barely any background on you except from what the policemen already told me, so, how about you tell me a little about yourself? Whatever you'd like to say.”

You shrug and tell her the more simple things. How your mother died in the hospital soon after giving birth to Cam when you were five and how you never met any of your grandparents, not even knowing if they are still alive.

By the time that was done you two were already in the office and she had started to make her notes. The same time she uses to catch up on notes you chew on your lip, trying to read her handwriting upside down. So far it was just what you told her. 'Sister all he has', was underlined, but then she follows up with 'trust issues' and 'reads my handwriting upside-' and you look away.

This gains you a slight chuckle from her, a gesture that maybe was supposed to put you somewhat at ease, but it only serves to tense you up more. “You don't believe I have any incentive to help you, do you?”

“Uhm...”

You bite your tongue again. For a moment you want to make a comment about how she may get some bonus if she gets people into an asylum, but you'd rather go to jail anyway. Maybe a bonus if she gives you a cocktail of pills? Eventually you shrug. “No, why would you?” You still can't really relax around her so you barely know how honest you can be around her, but maybe admitting to your distrust could... You don't know. “Nobody ever has.”

She gives a weak smile. “Then let me answer you sarcastically, because I couldn't possibly have been a troubled youth myself, nor simply be empathetic enough to want to help others for the mere sake of helping others. No, I'm getting paid. I was the closest person available and if I get you to like me the chance is high that I'll become your regular psychologist if you happen to need one. But it's not your money that I'll extract, but the governments. CPS is a government agency after all.”

This... actually makes you feel a little better.

“Is that a smile I see?” She asks, but also repels said expression from your face. “Hmm... are you not allowing yourself to be happy, Christopher? You know you are allowed to smile, right?”

“I-” You frown. “Yes?”

“Why do you think you had the reflex to stop smiling when I called you out on it?”

You... don't know.

So many things that made you happy were things /he/ didn't approve of, so it was always better not to show it. But, no, that wasn't true. It's only really learning language that got you just thought would get you in trouble, because of what implications it had for you. In retrospect, you don't even know how he would have reacted.

“I don't know.”

“Do you think you are afraid of showing emotion?”

Your eyes dart back up to her. Why would you be afraid- That's not it, is it? You shrug. “I try to fly below people's radar.”

“And them recognizing an emotion on you would give them a reason to talk about it to you?”

“I guess?”

She nods again and scribbles something down. “You avoid any conversation because, to your experience, interactions with others were mostly negative. You have no reason to trust others.” Those were no questions, merely statements. “And at the moment not me either. Unfortunately I need at least a bit of it so I can help you.”

“And how can I convince you that I trust you?”

She raises her eyebrows a little, but doesn't go in on how you phrased it. “How about you tell me your plans for the future. How you and your sister will leave this debacle once you are spoken free and she has her full recovery.”

So she just wants to have the key to your future handed to her? The only thing that you could possibly give up.

You can't achieve that goal if you never tell anyone, can you?

You sigh and tell her truthfully. “I want to gain legal guardianship over Cam, I'll try to do my best for her.”

Again she nods, but doesn't write it down this time. She even lets silence linger in the room for a bit. “And what is it that you think is best for her?”

You barely even thought that far. Maybe her staying with you is what's best for you, not for her. Do you even know how to take care of her? Can you actually raise her?

“It is not a weakness to ask others for help.” She leans back slightly. “I would not have brought it up this quickly, but let me ask you on your thoughts of a foster family.”

That has always been your plan B in your head, but now that you hear it out loud, it stings. You don't want to be in the situation where you have to trust anyone with Cam, but your hands are tied. You can't care for her financially right now, and you have no idea how you'd bring a girl through puberty.

“You could finish high school and get the opportunity for a better job, too. And then you can still apply for legal guardianship over her, your chances would be a lot better as well.”

She probably knew all the other reasons that went through your head, but this was one you didn't even think of.

“You have gone through trauma, Christopher. Something we barely scratched on, but I do not want to overwhelm you with too many thoughts right now. I can only hope that I got through to you a little, and gave you the thoughts that you need right now.”

“What?” She already calls her quits?

“Yes, Christopher?”

Isn't there something you still need to discuss?

“Well, for one, nobody calls me Christopher... Chris is fine.”

“And for another?”

“And... about... what I did?”, you ask slowly. Enough fear still in you. “Weren't you called here to see if I'm crazy or not?”

“Well, Chris.” She folds her hands. “That word only has negative meanings. What you may mean is my judgment on whether or not you will be a danger to yourself or anyone else in the future, which is a strong no.”

You nod. “And... the other thing?”

“The 'other thing' is a complicated issue, but one you seem to only have had as an afterthought to our talk. Do you dread talking about it?”

You only answer with a shrug.

“You didn't dare to say it out loud, though, did you, Chris?”

“I killed my father”, you admit.

“You protected your sister, Chris.”

You bite your lip. “No, I didn't. Maybe for the first shot, but then she was free from him, I took the second shot anyway!”

Dr. Carter opens her hands. “And why did you do it?”

“Because he would've...” You don't know.

Silence dominates the office for a little while until she asks. “Because you thought you- no. That she would not have been save otherwise. Am I correct?”

Yeah... That would sound... like a delusion you could get into. “Thanks.”

It's a cliché, for sure. One person resting by the sickbed of another. Your thoughts both run wild and don't move forward at all. Your head hurts, you're still going commando, and for some reason you wonder if you have to go to school tomorrow. Like... should you ask someone if you have to go to school, or would that show that you are not confident enough to be by yourself and still need an adult to tell you what to do?

You turn around to rest the other side of your head on your arms and look up to Cam, who- is looking back at you.

Immediately you jolt up. “Cammie.”

She looks away for a moment before returning her attention to you. “Hey.”

“Hey,” you return. For a moment you thought she didn't want to talk, you hadn't exactly left on the best of terms. Then again, she had been awake for a little while at least and didn't initiate conversation. Not that she was a big talker, far from it. “How are you?”

Cam barely musters up a shrug but, and flinches as the one side you hit with the shotgun won't properly obey.

That's your chance to show her your powers.

What are you going to try and heal and what do you say to her?

“I’m so sorry I hit you, Cam. I didn’t see you there- I mean, I thought you were out of the way.” You take her hand, caressing with your thumb over her fingers a little. Thankfully she didn’t reject the gesture and keeps eye contact with you. “I’d never hurt you intentionally, you know that, right?”

It's times like these when you'd wish she'd talk more properly, because, after round of waiting, she only nods.

You nod in return, and look shortly to the policewomen on a chair by the door. He's only really here for you not to try and tell her what story she is supposed to tell them when they ask her as a witness/victim of your actions. He just radios in that Cam's awake now.

You gotta be a little cryptic but hope she gets what you mean. “I’ll do my best for you never get hurt again, and to take your pain for myself.” You lay your hand on hers so she will see the wound appear on you.

Concentrate, and sync...

It's much easier than you remember. Maybe because you've synced with her twice before, or maybe you are getting better at it in general... you don't know. Either way, it's easy.

While you’ve already fixed her sinews last time you now look for more of that string tissue. You can only guess it's the nerves.

You take what’s damaged and immediately feel a sharp pain. Has she been feeling that the entire time? Hopefully she still has some painkillers going on for her.

But that's not all, you need to physically show her that you are taking that wound.

Once the pain subsides on you as well you concentrate on everything on the hand and take it away too, bit by bit.

Your skin breaks and you begin to bleed. But not bad enough that it would ruin her sheets.

Quickly you remove your hand from her and lick away the bit of blood. Then you show her the wound and how it heals, before saying, “You don’t even have to suffer again.”

She stares at you in bewilderment before getting distracted by the approaching police officer. “Good to see you awake.”

“Yeah, it is.” you throw in stead of Cam, “Hopefully her wounds are less severe than what we originally thought. But Cam here always healed very quickly.”

The officer frowns a little. Yeah, what you said didn’t seem natural, but you can only hope it was enough hint towards Cam that she should pretend like nothing happened. Similarly, the policewoman disregards your strange sentence and introduces herself to Cam.

“I’m Elisabeth, I’m with the police”, she taps the silver shield by her waist. “You can call me Liz.”

Officer Jackson had been in regular police uniform while she was only wearing that shield as a way of identification. Come to think of it, that sergeant also was wearing casual clothes, but you don’t remember if he wore a shield.

“Hi,” Cam answers quietly, but doesn’t say anything else.

Elisabeth, in return, smiles at Cam. “You’re Cam, right? What is that short for? Cameron?” Cam shakes her head. “Camille? Camilla?” More head shaking, but no more guesses.

You smile. It’s been a while since anyone tried to guess her name. And when the policewoman looks to you for help you also shake your head, so back to Cam, she turns. “Would you tell me?”

It takes a while before Cam finally admits being named after a city, “Cambridge.”

“Oh, Cambridge?” she laughs slightly, “Why that’s a beautiful name.” That’s a lie, she’s clearly somewhat weirded out. But there are girls running around called Bristol, London, Paris, and Ashton

“Mom gave it to me...”

Somehow that hurts. It reinforces the idea that you’re now alone with her.

“Well, your mother had good taste. Unique, and still beautiful.”

You lean back a little as you let the policewoman try and talk with Cam, not getting many words out of her. Even though you know that she probably gets paid to be kind right now, it’s nice to see that Cam has not changed, but was her usual self. That was quite a weight off your shoulder.

After a round of smalltalk she does put out a recording device though, showing it to you shortly to subtly tell you that her interrogation has now begun.

That ‘interrogation’ passed without any surprises. She didn’t say anything about any of your powers. Unfortunately she still blames herself, and when Elisabeth asks what Cam thinks your father would have done to either of you she was very hesitant to talk about punishment, because ‘one doesn’t go against him’.

That being said and done, Elisabeth thanks you both and leaves you alone. Something you didn’t think would happen this fast.

Alone time with Cam...

You face her while she still looks to the door.

“Dad’s dead.” she then says quietly, near tears again. And as you took a moment to think of an answer she just breaks out crying and- disappears.

The crying was still very audible, and the bed sheets that cover her partially were still moving, but she was gone, along with her hospital gown. And the IV connected to her arm was also gone.

What do you do?

“We have each other,” you tell her, smiling in direction of where her head is. Is she even aware that she’s invisible? You lean over the bed and hug her around her waist. You want to calm her, but you also want to give her the opportunity to cry a little.

What you have to do for sure though is keep her from blaming herself. “It’s all my fault”, you tell her, “I should have taken you and ran away from him ages ago, but I wasn’t strong enough.” While you wanted to calm her down you too get some waterworks going. You’re not good at this.

“No- I shouldn’t have-” She flickers back into existence and pats your head with her now almost healed hand. “I- It’s my-”

“It doesn’t matter”, you realize. “What happened happened. My fault, your fault... What matters now is that we stick together, okay?”

You remain like this with her for a while before leaning up again and wiping your tears. “Let me get some tissues.” Thankfully there were already some by the table and you hand her one first before blowing your own nose. “How’s your hand?”

“Still numb.”

“Any pain?”, you ask to which she nods slightly. You figure there wasn’t much. “I can heal you more, Cam, but... people would notice if your wounds were gone too quickly.”

“Your powers.” She looks at her hand again. “You keep it hidden?”

“Yes.”

“I do?”

“Yeah,” you nod. “You can go invisible.”

“I can?”

“Yeah,” you reinterate. “Just earlier you... fizzled out a little.”

She stares at her hand and moves it around. “How?”

“I don’t know. I barely know how to do control my own-” she disappears. “and you’re gone. Woah!”

You feel the need to retreat a little, because, unlike before, now the whole bed was gone.

“I can’t see you right now... ahh... the bed is gone too.”

“It feels weird... I’m here... but I’m not.”

“No need to be scared”, you reach out to where her hand was, “take my hand.”

As she touches you, you were suddenly able to see her again- at least a bit.

You look around and see that not only she and the bed, but you too, were somewhat translucent now, while everything else was completely normal.

“That’s so freaking cool, Cammy.” Either of you looks around in amazement, “Can you control it? Like... how much you are touching becomes invisible too?”

“I don’t know...”

You pop back into existence and she goes to hold her head, “My head...”

Again she nods and then looks off. She probably thought about the same thing as you did. Your immediate future.

“Listen. I’ve talked to a really nice lady who gave me some good advice. As much as I would like to, but I don’t think I can earn a living, be a superhero, and properly be there for you.” You realize you pretty much started like you want to split up. So you quickly continue. “But don’t worry. Absolutely first rule of the day is that we stick together, alright? While I thought at first it can be only the two of us together, it’s much simpler if we’d move in with someone else.”

Cam processes what you said for a little while before asking, “someone else like who?”

You really need help in raising her. While you know you should probably hold her accountable a little, you feel yourself incapable of pressing the issue. “I’m sorry,” you tell her, “I shouldn’t have brought it up.”

While you want to go in for a hug she still looks angry shifts a little in her bed to sit more upright.

“You didn’t mean-” She stole something, so she did mean harm to that shop owner. “You never meant for anyone to get hurt. I know you’re not a bad person.” You laugh a bit, “I was the one who brought up that we can use our powers for evil, but you immediately shot me down and said that we ought to be heroes, right? So out of the two of us, I’m the morally ambiguous one.”

Cam thinks for a few seconds before asking, “ambiguous?”

“Ahm...” That’s not a question you had expected. “Like... ‘without clear... definition’, I guess?” How else to say this? “Like, my moral is more up to debate than yours is.”

“Ambiguous,” she repeats, “ambiguous.” Confirming the new word she looks up to you again, but doesn’t say anything.

At least that bit of anger was gone.

“I’m just... worried about you. Not about you directly- I mean, yeah I worry about you too, but I worry about us, our relationship. I don’t want to lose you, but when I don’t know what’s going on inside your head... I could have helped you, you know? I don’t want to- I don’t want to be someone you don’t feel comfortable talking to.”

It takes her a while, but then she nods. “Okay.”

That answer doesn’t ease your heart at all. You poured it out to her and all you get was an ‘okay’. You really hate sometimes that she is not a big talker.

“Okay,” you say as well. Cam’s not really leaving you much to work with. Guess you have to go back to yes and no questions. “Let’s just... talk to one another, and not do something like that again, okay?”

She nods, “Okay.”

‘Okay’, exactly what you expected. And you have no way of really knowing it it was a dismissive ‘okay’ or not.

“Okay,” you nod as well. “I’ll give you a little space then.” Standing up you stretch yourself and let out a yawn, “But you can always talk to me, you know?”

A nod was all the response you get, but she watches you intently while you shake out your legs a little. She’s not noticing you’re going commando, does she? You really need to check if whomever they sent to pick stuff up from home has come back already. It’s been a while.

“Don’t go.”

“Just would have gone to check something.” You give her a smile. “Think you can walk?” Another nod. “Then why don’t you accompany me a bit?”

Thnks for running

Thanks for the run! I've loved this idea of a character-focused superhero story with no prior superheroes so far.

Yeah, I've really been enjoying this too! Looking forwards to the next thread!

well, no caped crusaders at least. You do know that at least your father has had powers before you.

>character focused
I just hope people don't start waifufagging when I introduce more characters

but any problems that Chris will have to deal with will be small scale for the most part
but I'll not just have it be slice of life.

>I just hope people don't start waifufagging when I introduce more characters
I restrain myself, but it’s unlikely that will occur in aggregate.
>>
>>3417543
The restrain will probably be due to his shy and suspicious nature towards anything not Cam
But he's still a teenager so I don't know.

When will the next thread be?

I'll type up a few happenings that don't quite require player input...
actually there's still something I want to do here before I jump thread, so next update will be within 4 hours

Thankfully they have brought more than just a fresh pair of underpants for you but actually a small bag full of stuff, including your diskman and a few CDs.

You can only wonder in what state that house is or what the others in the community are thinking. Your father was clearly dead, so did they move him in a- what are those vehicles called that they transport corpses in? Something similar to a horse.

How obvious is it that you killed your father to them? What rumors will spread? Does it even matter? You will most likely never return. So, no, it does not matter.

Or does it?

They’ll probably be character witnesses to you and your father and their fucking opinion may decide your future.

You hate that fact.

You feel your hand forming a fist again, only stopped by the malleability of the bread you bought just a few hours ago. It felt like that was ages ago. Another life perhaps. A life you have left behind now, with only bread to show for?

Your mind tries to go into some sort of philosophical place but utterly fails at it. One thing that happened was that you somewhat lost your connection to reality itself. Your mind is somehow working like you’re narrating for someone else. And also in a style as were it a comic, and you were a tragic hero just going through a rough patch so that the victory in the end will be all that sweeter.

Real life doesn’t work that way though. There is no assured happy end, just because you are giving your best and trying hard and believe in the power of love. You could still go to jail. You could still lose Cam.

No amount of self healing powers can stop that. It would probably only extend the time it takes for you to die if you are gunned down. You don’t know what happens if your heart or brain is hit and you’re not eager to find out. You already lost blood and feel anemic about that fact.

Can your powers regenerate bone, muscles, sinews and everything in between, but not blood? Then again, technically your blood was not damaged, so it doesn’t heal... Or maybe you’re just making shit up at this point. Maybe your fatigue and weakness is natural.

Now that all the adrenaline is gone your hand is shaking just when lifting a piece of dry bread to your mouth.

Your train of thought continued like that for a while. Cam didn’t knock you out of it since she wasn’t the greatest conversationalist, so it was allowed to just run its course.

You feel like a hypocrite too since you’re not sharing your worries with her, even though you just earlier talked about being honest with one another. But you talk yourself out of it by claiming that most of those worries were unfounded anyway... weren’t they?

When someone does finally knock you out of it the entire thing derails though.

“Mhwa, what?!”

You jumped up from your seat and look in direction of the door to Cam’s room. Not exactly a graceful action, but you can’t take it back.

The door opens and a nurse with a trolley comes in. “Good evening, my dears.”

“Oh...”, you stare at her a little dumbfounded as she pushes the trolley closer. “Uhh... good evening”, you greet back once you remember your manners.

“N’evenin’,” mumbles Cam as well.

“Now, while you two are – why just that – two, you look a little bit malnourished, so you get to have three. Already paid for.” We dơn'̨t ̕t̵àk̷e̛ han͢d-ou͝t̛s. “There’s a soup and a vegetarian option...”

She begins to tell you about the menu, but you were too distracted by the words that just resonated within your skull. We don’t take handouts.

“Paid for by whom?”, you ask

“Oh? Child Protective Services.”

>Don’t take it.
>Only take two portions, one for each of you.
>Eat as much as you can.

Father mind fuckery still going in on us, defy it by taking the offered food

After the nurse leaves ask Cam if she heard it too, in her head, just to see if she is aware dad had mind powers and that they apparently still linger

You look to Cam who silently shakes her head. Has she heard that too? Probably. But this is where you’ll have to put your foot down on your fathers influence.

“No thanks, we’ll just need two...”

“They paid for three, I’ll leave you with three.” She just activated sass mode. “I don’t mind collecting it uneaten in an hour.”

You cross your arms, but she returns the gesture, tapping her foot for a few seconds before you give in.

“Fine, a menu 1 and two menu 2s.”

“Comin’ up, hun’.” She puts three bowls of soup, and three trays of the ordered menus on the table before you. “Thank you for your co~op~er~a~tion~” she sang the last word while making her way out again.

Out in the hallway you see detective... Elisabeth – you never got her last name – on a seat reading a newspaper. You were still under observation, but that didn’t surprise you...

“We are not supposed to take handouts”, Cam informs you.

“Yeah,” you follow after the nurse to the door, but stop in the middle of the room. You’re not sure if you should follow through on that idea, so you ask Cam, “should we offer Elisabeth that third menu?”

Cam thinks for a moment but then shrugs.

As verbal as ever when it comes to voicing her opinion.

>invite Elisabeth in to eat
>offer Elisabeth one of the menus
>The nurse can collect an uneaten meal too, you don’t care.
>eat it yourself. The nurse had been right, either of you are malnourished and have emptied your stomachs contents at least once today
>>
>>3418306
>eat it yourself. The nurse had been right, either of you are malnourished and have emptied your stomachs contents at least once today
Provided that "yourself" means sharing it with Cam.
Also, see if we can biosync Cam into rejecting our dear old Dad's influence. With her permission, of course.

>>3418333

yes, that was the plural 'you'

>eat it yourself. The nurse had been right, either of you are malnourished and have emptied your stomachs contents at least once today
That's dad talking, we should ignore it.

We both will feel better with the food and be glad we ignored him.
>>
>>3418343
In that case it would be "yourselves"
>offer Elizabeth one of the menus
>>
You weren’t fast enough to catch up with the closing door and had to open it again.

“Officer... Elisabeth?”, you call out to her.

“I told you, Liz is fine”, she giggles lightly. “What’s the matter?”

“Well, uhm... Cam and I got an additional lunch menu, and ahh... we were wondering if you might want to have it?”

“Oh,” she looks quite surprised. Similar to you, that was not how you expected today’s dinner to go. But now that you see her contemplating you believe she was looking for a painless way to tell you ‘no’.

“Y-You don’t have to, of course,” you immediately follow up, “It’s just- well, we have this extra one ‘cause, like, the nurse said we-” -look malnourished. Which was true. Either of you should eat more. “It’s fine, you don’t-”

“No, it’s very nice of you to ask,” she already stood up, “Yes, I- would not mind eating with you and your sister.”

Your mouth slightly opens. You kinda only wanted to dump the extra menu on her and leave it be again, but she assumes you invited her in. A quick glance around the hall tells you that there was no proper table on which she could even eat the menu if you’d gave it to her. The tray is hot, so eating from ones lap would not work comfortably either.

You sigh. You can’t un-invite her now. Nodding you open the door farther for her to step in.

We really need to fight that mind fuckery off.....

I'd honestly appreciate if it won't be a matter of one dice roll. A gradual built-up instead of an abrupt, OP change.
