You think you’re getting slightly better at this whole ‘child mentoring’ thing. Might just be luck, though.

The day with the kids ends up tuckering them out, and they brook little complaint when you drag out the bedding you’d bought for them out of the closet and insist they ready themselves for bed. Before very long, they’re sound asleep, although you end up remaining awake for a bit longer simply due to considering for what you need to do tomorrow. You end up tapping away on your FutureSight for a while into the night…

Welcome back to Magical Girl For Hire!

The morning arrives with little fanfare- the kids still seem worn out, but awake and ready for the day ahead. “So, I’ll be taking you back a little later today,” you announce mid-breakfast, to an immediate chorus of disapproval.

“What? No!” “Really?” “Awwww…” A part of you is honestly surprised that they’re still interested in hanging out with you.

Still, you just shake your head. “I need to do a few things around HQ today- it’ll be boring. Mostly just meetings and organization stuff. Making orders, maintenance.”

“That kinda sounds interestin’!” Tami says. The other two seem as though they’re relatively neutral- you can tell they want to stay, but they’re not sure if it’s worth sticking around for THAT…

>Well...you could bring them along, you guess. This is something they’ll need to know eventually, right?
>This is gonna be too above their understanding- or at least boring. No need to try and pretend it won’t be.

>Other: See if you can get a take out ordered for late so the kids cna have something for lunch in case we take to long during our meetings and work.

When i was young i used to follow my mom around during her day at work. She had long hours i was just happy to stay with her.

Besides the kids might enjoy seeing us putting stuff up and talking to people. Not to mention it will be fun having then hanging out around

They've had their time. Let's not draw this out.

Super boring, like, did you pay the taxes on your new rent lease boring. like spending 2 hours looking over vehicles and trying to arrange furniture boring. The kind of boring that kids spend maybe 2 minutes trying to seem interested but once it's explained this is the activity and it will continue for approximately 2 hours start complaining they want to go to dairy queen. They do not want to come.

Thinking about it, you shake your head. “It really wouldn’t be. It’s just work that needs doing, most of it would probably fly right over your head, and by the time I finish to explain it, you probably have forgotten most of it anyway. I know the time was short, don’t get me wrong- but if you ask me, you three have some stuff to work on, anyway. I wasn’t at the Care House that long, but I’m pretty sure there’s speech extracurriculars and stuff.”

“Yeah, kinda,” Noran admits. “Probably could ask for help with that, myself…”

“I could help you!” Tami says quickly. You’re not sure how that’ll eventually go, but you’re not going to debate the issue. That’s on them. At least Harp seems like she’s equally as concerned...maybe it’ll get her to start talking more by default?

Regardless, the trip there was relatively quiet (save for Tami’s incessant ‘tips’), and the trio are returned- after they give you a hug and wish you well, not to mention hoping for more time with you next go around.

With them gone, however, you need to get down to business. And first thing on the list on that front is…

>Getting everyone together for a meeting. Those HQ tasks won’t finish themselves.
>Figuring out how to get those aircraft armed and mission-ready.
>Taking the time to purchase a new room and get it set up.

A team meeting. You’re going to have to make a number of calls for this.

...Maybe you should make a chatroom or something. Or at least get everyone in some sort of group email setup. Party line call will have to do…

Ugh. It takes about a half hour of calls to everyone- largely because not everyone answers immediately, but you finally get them all, and they agree to show up as soon as they can, which should be within an hour or so.

...maybe you should have some sort of dedicated meeting room. Just waiting out here is kind of awkward, if you’re being honest with yourself.

“Yo!” Oh, Lori’s here. “Hey, so what- pffffftthahahahah! What!?” ...Yeah, you kinda expected that. Deep breath, deep breath… “If you’d wanted a makeover, I’d have helped! Didn’t- pfthah- you didn’t have to run a lawnmower through it!” Lovely.

“If you MUST know,” you start slowly, “I did this for a movie scene the other day, and before you ask how THAT happened, that’s very related to why I decided to call this meeting together.”

“Really?” She cocks and eyebrow and puts a hand on her hip. “I wouldn’t call that good news.”

“Hush, you.” Damnit, where’s everyone else? You’re not sure how long you can take this…

“I’m just saying! I can introduce you to a little thing called hair gel!” Damnit. And you already KNOW what hair gel is, thank you.

Fortunately, it takes a few more minutes, but everyone eventually trickles in, most of them rather curious about the whole get together. “Right, so, thanks for showing up, everyone.” Geez...looking it all over, it still hasn’t quite clicked how the outfit’s grown. Three’s turned into eight pretty quickly. “Basically, this is whole team meeting is just to get a few things about HQ settled. First thing on the docket: the tasks that the big guys upstairs told us about.”

“Oh yeah, that.” Mono points out. “I thought we could do ‘em whenever.”

“Within reason,” Izumi adds. “I certainly got the impression they wanted them done sooner than later. Splitting them up makes sense.”

“Oh,” the wolfgirl nods. “Right, then. Soooo...time to call dibs?”

You shrug. They’re all (mostly) well-functioning individuals; you’re sure that they can sort it out themselves without you having to micromanage. “Sure, by all means. Just so long as they get done.”

Almost at once there’s a thunderous roar of footsteps and as some of them race for the screen, and you panic briefly. “HEY! WHOA NOW!” Fortunately, they all stop (save maybe Cylica, who was following at a more sedate pace), and you have a chance to breath. “How about you guys hash that out until AFTER the meeting’s over with, huh? I’m not done.”

“Coulda said that first…” Lorelei mumbles as she and the rest walk back over.

“Anyway,” you continue, “Next thing on the docket is- wait, actually, before I move on too much. You guys noticed the new addition to the break room, right? If you haven’t, check it out. There’s a fridge and oven and everything in there. I’m not stocking it, though; that’s for everyone to chip in.”

“Oh, neat. I can try makin’ those dumpling things I’ve been lookin’ at.” Owlia murmurs. “Heck, we could have a potluck or something!”

There seems to be a general air of interest in the idea, so probably good to file that away for now. “We’ll talk about that later. Next on the docket is doing something about those aircraft- they’re just rotting away, and frankly we need to get them up to spec. Owlia, I know you’ve been busy, but…”

To that end, she grimaces a bit. “I mean yeaaah. I’ve taken a look at them here and there, but it’s gonna be some time understanding everything- and that’s IF I can. Remember these came from a...what’d you call ‘em that one time, Izumi? ‘Precursor tech’?” She nods in confirmation. “Right, that. I mean, I can fire ‘em up, I’ve figured out that much, the hardpoints seem simple enough that I could attach some weapons to them, and I’m fairly certain that most of the basic controls are idiot-proofed. If we REALLY wanted, we could fly them out next job we got. But as for maintenance? I gotta learn about ‘em real close, because if something breaks and needs repairs, that’s gonna be an issue.”

“Short term, could get nano-bot repair systems, get those programmed to recognize the base construction and configuration, and use that?” Izumi suggests.

“...Man, that nano-stuff is crazy. I keep forgetting about it,” Owlia mutters. “Yeah, I guess that could work as a stopgap. If I wanted to try and improve anything, though, wouldn’t be much good.”

“Ain’t there a bunch of flyboys in Dynamic Methods?” Lorelei notes. “We could maybe trade on some goodwill with them, see what they could figure out.”

Personally, I think that making a deal with DMs would help with more things than fixing and upgrading stuff - like access to VR training, general tips on what to expect on missions that require aircraft, maybe a side-contract or two. Nothing wrong with learning from pros.

“Actually, I was thinking we use a bit more local talent,” you speak up, and everyone looks at you in mild surprise. “Anyone remember Mitzi?”

“Oh, her?” Lorelei would know, you suppose. “I mean, isn’t she mostly a one-girl show? I mean, I have to think she’d be, like, super busy, huh?” At the confused looks given her by Mono and the other newcomers, she elaborates. “Mitzi’s a local-local; does a lot of repairs for Outgoers around here. Really good, can fix and mod just about anything, honestly. Genius, but not like, Owlia genius, mostly specializes in cars and vehicles and junk.”

“I figure we pay her a retainer or something, get her to come look at the thing at least and help Owlia out,” you elaborate. “Dynamic Methods is a nice idea, but I’m worried about possibly owing them something. Might be an option later- but for now, probably the best bet is I’ll go see her and we should pick up some of that nano-repair system just to be safe. We should get use out of these things sooner than later, and so long as we’re careful, it shouldn’t be too bad. Anyone particularly against it, lemme know now, okay?” You don’t want to rule with an iron fist or anything. Fortunately, although Lorelei shrugs, no one seems to be opposed enough to speak out. “Alright. Now, we-”

“Hey, hold on a sec.” Mono speaks up. “Sorry to interrupt, but can we take this into that break room? I’m gettin’ tired of-”

“Oh, yeah, sure, come on.” Ugh, can’t believe you just had them standing there. You really DO need a meeting room.

After you’re resettled and sitting all around the table, you continue. “So, I think, since it’s not just a trio anymore, we need to set up a proper training schedule. We have at the least a training room, so I think it’d be a good idea for all of us to get more used to each other’s skills and help each other and all that.”

“I have to say, I appreciate the thought, but wouldn’t that be a bit difficult?” Cylica speaks up. “Everyone’s schedules seem rather vastly...independent, shall I say. I certainly hope you don’t expect us to just drop whatever we’re doing every time you call.”

Good question. How WOULD a regular schedule actually work out when everyone does jobs at their own pace? You’d had the idea, but…

> “I only mean regular in that we actually do it somewhat consistently. Like, say, a day or two after we come back from a job. We’ll set up a system to confirm that it did or didn’t happen- kind of like a punch clock.”
> “We’ll work it out in shifts. Not everyone has to be out all at once, but I get the feeling that most of us have been doing team jobs anyway. We’ll arrange for things to work out that way, since several of us are around at any given time.”
> “Alright, alright, we’ll shelve the idea for now. Was just an idea I had to keep everyone on point, but if anyone has any others, I’m open.”

I suggest making it kind of voluntary but to strongly encourage people to show up when they're not on missions or in the middle of some other important thing.
So instead of punishing for not showing up, maybe set up some kind of reward for those who show up often enough?

You shake your head. No, trying to adhere to a strict schedule would just end in nothing. “I only mean regular in that we actually do it somewhat consistently. Like, say, a day or two after we come back from a job. We’ll set up a system to confirm that it did or didn’t happen- kind of like a punch clock.” You’re pretty sure you could buy a system for that without too much trouble- just some kind of time logger or the sort that registered everyone’s IDs. “Maybe if you show up enough, we’ll do a thing? Like, dinner on me or something? I dunno.”

The response is simply mutterings and shrugs, which slowly turn into nods. “I think it’s a fair idea. We could certainly use some collective training,” Izumi states- she seemed to be the only one to not have a lukewarm opinion towards it. “I don’t see a reason to not organize training sessions when we can.”

Meh, you’ll take it for now. “Alright, then. I’ll see about going forward with that. Now, next thing to talk about…

We're not done with HQ tasks, buddy. Kinda interested in more expositions of the Intersection.
We can train techniques for a few days while everyone is off on tasks and wait for new rooms to be installed.
And if you didn't forget, Miranda didn't have a single day off after the last mission.

>>3536184
It's not that I was specifically hoping for something but from my point of view we don't have much to discuss in this meeting beyond what we've already discussed and what's being suggested now. It might just be me not remembering something though.
Please don't take it as me trying to rush us into the missions or something, that was just my prediction of what might happen next.

After taking a moment to collect your thoughts, you launch into it. “Alright, so, we have the possibility of donations, if anyone looks to want to make a quick mote or two. Just in case some of you haven’t heard, the library where Izumi works is taking history book donations and paying some small motes for anything good. Not really a supplement for anything, but decent pocket money.”

“Ah, right,” Izumi adds. “We’ve donated a few things for them earlier. I’d suggest at least keeping an eye out, for anyone interested.”

“Meh, seems kinda boring, but why not?” Lorelei shrugs. Mono at least looks more interested.

“It would be fascinating to expand my knowledge banks,” Prima considers. “I will make it a secondary priority.”

“Great,” you allow. “So, Cylica?” The girl in question raises and eyebrow. “How’re things with Crystalock?”

She purses her lips. “Could be better. I have to admit, my situation here has stabilized quite nicely, although it’s because of that I may be seeking my release from Crystalock soon. They’ve done little to convince me to continue my assistance…rather ornery, they are, and despite my insistence, they’ve been reluctant to put my designs in the wild, so to speak.” Although she has a disgruntled air about her when she says this, she quickly brightens up. “However! There are a couple of things I have been considering, given our- and your- recent attention by this businesses’ superiors. I thought it was far beyond time to contribute, and I figured I would do so rather in the way I knew best. I understand we’ve been communicating using Murmur Stones, yes? I felt as though they could be...well, improved, to say the least.”

That gets your attention. “Yeah, how?”

“Through studying the stones, I think I’ve figured out how they function well enough to add a few things. Firstly, what are essentially channels to the stones. Given the right number of pulses of mana, you can switch to a different ‘channel’ to allow for private discussion, and you shouldn’t need for a ‘pairing’ anymore. Furthermore, I’ve found a way to attach a small transponder of sorts to them- if your FutureSight has anything akin to radar, we should be able to see each other’s whereabouts on that, or perhaps another tool if I can get Owlia to assist me…”

“Oh, pft, for sure!” Well, THAT’S rather nice to know.

“Sounds great,” you allow. “Mono, Lori? How’re your lessons going?”

Mono chuckles, while Lorelei just grins. “Oh, I’m doing fiiiiine,” she says as she rests her head on the table. “Honestly, gotta say, I feel like I’m waaay more at peace with myself and everything. I mean, body surfing is STILL gross, but I’m pretty okay now, I think.”

Mono nods as well. “Teach is...weird. To say tha’ least. But she’s cool. Especially since I can’t make every lesson. Mostly been suggestin’ that I just let myself get used to nonsense words and MAKE ‘em mean somethin’, y’know? Since sometimes I’m not gonna have the time to really think up anything clever. It, uh… well, her words, not mine here, but, even if it detracts from the intensity of the beat a bit, sometimes how fast your mouth moves is more important than what comes out of it.” She shrugs. “I guess it makes enough sense for me.”

“Fair enough. Owlia, we’ve got a few things to donate to your research that might help you out when we get a chance,” you mention as you turn to her. “How’s the power armor thing coming along?”

“Slooowly,” she says with some bitter mirth. “Honestly, I’m kinda hoping some of the stuff I’m letting you guys borrow will help me with that.”

“Well, we’ll see what we can do,” you assure her. “Some of this stuff might be worth taking a closer look at. In the meantime, though, last thing to talk about- new HQ additions. Any suggestions?”

“We suuuuper need a Hangar,” Lorelei impresses. Owlia nods in agreement.

“Aaaactually I was kinda hopin’ we could get the weapons’ range testing thing for ourselves?” Mono asks. “I figure it might be useful to practice with the guns and all…”

“It would be far more optimal for an individual with my design to stay at range,” Prima adds on, “And allowing for personal and quick calibrations with ranged weaponry at leisure would be ideal.”

“Not a fan of the up close n’ personal, lass?” Jago says. “Shame. But, betta than worryin’ about airtime, so why not?”

“I would suggest a containment room, actually, if you want anything to come from those donations of yours with less worrying about possible interference,” Cylica says quickly. “Otherwise they’d be rather slow going.”

It takes some consideration, as well as some low muttering with Izumi, but eventually you come to a decision. “As much as the Hanger might be nice, I think we can deal without it for a bit longer. The contaiment room is relatively cheap, and if what Cylica says is true, then it’ll pay for itself pretty quickly.”

“Absolutely,” she assures. “Being able to receive the data necessary and perform isolated tests in individually sealed environments will do wonders for preventing anything such as false positives. With myself and Owlia working on things, you may be surprised at the speed of the results.”

“Ha, you’re eager all of a sudden,” Owlia mentions with a half-smile. “I guess a containment room wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world, huh? Just thought a hangar would be pretty neat…”

“We’ll get one soon enough, dear, don’t worry. In the meantime, though, consider this something of a gift- I’ll put in for half of it. I believe it was 80 Large Motes?” You nod, confirming it, and she wills you the motes, and with the press of a few buttons, the Containment Room is ordered!

>Containment Room: Purchased!

>Current Motes: 73.55 Lotes.

“Alright, then. That’s that. Anyone got anything else to bring up?” There’s a few moments before everyone shakes their heads. “Alright, then. Owlia, like I said, we’ll get you those objects and let you take a look at everything.”

“I’ll head off, pick up that nano-spray,” Izumi offers. “I need to do a bit of shopping anyway.”

“I’m curious as to what one of those local jobs would entail...” Prima mutters to herself as everyone gets up, the meeting over with. You’re going to have to talk with Mitzi after you get done throwing things at Owlia...

“Whoa.” Speaking of, the girl seems kinda gobsmacked at all of this, once lain at her feet (or rather, on her desk). “Geez, you like to horde, huh? Can’t blame ya, though. These manastone devices in particular are interesting- I wonder how they compare to crystaltech not to mention that Sigil…ha, now I’m honestly a lot happier you went with the Containment Room. Good call!” She’s already splitting things into piles of a sort. “It’ll take me some time to work through all this, but I gotta say, it looks like it’s gonna be fun! Busy, but fun!”

“Well, you do that. Make sure you don’t burn yourself out.” You’d rather her not lose focus like before, after all. Hopefully Cylica will be around a bit more to keep her reined in. As for your own work, might as well get back to Mitzi...now, what’s her number, again…?”

---------

“Wait, so you need me to figure how the innards of a fighter jet?” She asks nonplussed. You can hear something going on in the background, but you’re not exactly sure what.

“Yeah. That and a transport. Really advanced tech. We want to make sure we’ve got the know-how to repair it in the field if something happens,” you explain. “Figured you’d be the best for the job. We’re willing to pay for your time, obviously. If you’re willing to be on call, we’ll pay you regularly, even.”

“Hmm…” She seems to mull over it for several long seconds. “I guessss I might be able to do that. Won’t be able to start right this second, but we can work somethin’ out. You’ve always been a pretty solid sort. Normally, I wouldn’t settle for anything less than fifteen Large, biweekly, but...eh, I can do ten. “Yeah, that’s fine,” you agree. She’s worth the payment, and she sounds like she’s being generous to boot.

“Alright, then. I’ll come by your place when I’m done for the time being, we’ll hash some things out. See you then!” After farewells, you hang up, and from there you glance back near the HQ’s task list. Seems like all of them have been taken...that was quick. Izumi and Prima are helping with the weapons demonstration, Mono’s helping with the art show thing...Lorelei and Jago are doing the moving? Oof. Might have to check on that.

Sighing, you lean back for a bit. You’re already feeling like you’re getting more into management than anything else- and it’s only been a couple of days. Maybe after you finish this thing with Mitzi you can take a lazy day or two. And you were just at a spa thing! Man, life’s moving fast all of a sudden.

...Then again, you’ve always been a restless sort, when it came down to it. Maybe you can just do some light solo sparring and relax until Mitzi gets here. She didn’t have to come by often, but she had your address just in case.

After some light shadowboxing and a bit of beating on dummies for sport, you take the rest of the day slow- a light lunch and some mindless tv for once- although you make sure to stick to comedy stuff. You’re not in the mood for action right now.

A knock on the door sounds after your 5th or so random cartoon, and you open the door to Mitzi, who greets you with a simple wave. “Yo. So what’s this aircraft thing you want to talk about? Got anything to do with the big building that popped up not too far from here?”

You nod. “Yup. C’mon, we’ll take a walk, I can show you the place.”

It’s not long before you arrive, and she whistles in appreciation. “Simple, but heck, I don’t remember this last I showed up. You’ve done good for yourself lately.”

“Things HAVE picked up,” you note. “Took a while, but I’ve got more people to worry about now- more responsibility and all that. Transport’s part of it. Come on, the rides are out back.”

“Hmmmm…” she mutters as she takes a cursory look at the transport and the fighter. “It doesn’t seem...tooo bad at first glance...can I get a look under the hood for either?”

You call Owlia out fairly quickly, and fortunately she does at least know how to get the innards exposed a bit, and Mitzi starts with the fighter jet. “Mmm...man, a lot of this looks interconnected as shit. Some parts of it look familiar, some I’m just asking ‘wait, what the heck is that?’” Poking her head out, she fixes her gaze on Owlia. “You got any idea what’s going on here?”

(cont)
>>
>>3536926
“Some,” she responds. “But not all. I got some notes if you want to look at them.”

“Maybe later,” she decides, going over to the transport. After getting it looked at as well, she nods once, twice. “Okay, so the transport is actually making a lot more sense to me. Seems simpler- I suspect I could figure it out if you give me a bit of TLC with it, figure out what corresponds to what I know of and what’s new.”

“That quickly?” Owlia asks in surprise. “I mean, I agree with you that the transport is simpler, but…”

“You’re new around here, huh?” Mitzi asks quickly, to a nod. “Well, no offense, but I’ve probably seen a lot more types of aircraft than you. I just got a bit bigger of a reference pool to pull from, is all.” She turns back to you, her face more confident. “But this thing, yeah, can do. Fighter’s gonna take some looking at, though.”

“Great,” you clap your hands, ignoring Owlia’s pout. That’s relieving to know, honestly. You were worried that it’d be a massive deal. “So, we’ll keep you in the books, then?”

“Absolutely,” she agrees as she pulls out a digital pad. “I got a lil’ something in writing, if you care to look at i-”

“Allow meeeee,” a sudden voice pops up, and the foggy image of Sal intersperses itself between you both. “Juuuuuust to be certain...oh. Hmmmmmm, fair enough, yes. You do think hiiiiighly of little Miranda, don’t you?” Eh? “Well, I shaaaaan’t complain! All cleeeear!”

...And he’s gone. Just like that.

Mitzi raises an eyebrow at you. “Uhhhhh…?”

“He does that,” you insist. “Just give it here and let me sign.”

After that piece of business is concluded (and your local mad scientist manages to eck out an agreement to have her share any revelations) your day is about done. Letting yourself exhale, you figure it might be a good idea to let the rest of the evening pass on in relative relaxation.

Tomorrow...tomorrow will be a lazy day, for certain. You'll just make sure everything's not on fire, but beyond that, you're staying in.

The day after, you'll see about the new addition, since it should be ready to be installed by then. After that, though...

Gear shopping! We've still got a decent chunk of change to burn, let's see what's on the market. We need to refill our explosives cache, some anons have been talking about wanting some more substantial flight, a few more of those mana crystals would be nice, etc.

Fixing Ferrah's helmet we pancaked, Khaom's FuckHueg Sword/Paddle we bent, and making a new piece of equipment from either the silk we got from the Veilspeakers or that feather we got from lizard princess. Buying more mines for the Highball Launcher. Giving Lori Venom-Tongue, since we already have a light blade, and she could use a good melee weapon.

Shopping!
The idea of the anon turning into a dragon made me think if there is some sort of mask(s) or items that add nothing to our stats except for a particular form that we want.
>>
>>3536938
Do we have binoculars or a telescope or something? Would be cheap, useful, and low-tech friendly.

>>3536971
I assume we could find just about anything clothing-wise if we hunted around a little, but anything worn as clothing would have some kind of stat effect, I'd wager. I'm game to look around though.
Some other fun things to look for would be a tail, or something to give us extra arms. Similar tot he wings, I doubt they'd be fully functional, but they'd be impressive.

Actually, I wonder if we could find functional limbs we could use. They'd likely be mechanical, expensive, and we have no need for them, but they'd be kinda neat.
>>
>>3536932
>You've got a few more tasks to worry about. (What?)
Explosives supply run, some light window shopping, boggling at tempering costs again because if I recall the prices were bonkers.
Then maybe some magic training, Miranda is good at pumping out lots of mana really fast, but it's a bit of a shame with how large her mana pool is, she'd be a (n even larger) monster if she could use it more efficiently.
>>
>>3536932
>You've got a few more tasks to worry about. (What?)
Also, given how Outgoers work, we can't be the only packrat who goes around collecting things on the job right? Maybe we can look around see if there's some kind of thrift market of un-tempered consumable equipment that Outgoers not on job are pawning off to other Outgoers. Or would that be an internal company thing? Hm. Maybe that's something to bring up at the next meeting.

From Q&A thread:
-Biotech has a place in the Intersection, and cybernetics are commonplace for more normal individuals that have found their way here but might be missing a part or two. Biomods aren't necessarily not present, but they're uncommon simply because there's so far proven to not be much market there. The most you'll get easily is basic musculature adjustments and more 'fashion-oriented' things. (Like growing a tail or something when you don't naturally have one.)

I'll spot you. Pic related is what Star used for reference.

Starborn Crossover #1
"Beyond that, a wolf head rests atop a mane of brown hair, the ragged nest a perfect mirror to the wildness in the rest of her appearance. She moves like a huntress as she stalks with dustpan in hand; sliding under pews to track down every dust mite with her eagle eyes."

MGFH #30
"If it weren’t for the wolf-eared girl in warpaint standing right behind you, looking around with both a nervous and eager air as you give Lorelei and Izumi a retelling of where you vanished off to."

MGFH #31
No, she's brown-haired, scraggly, wolf ears, hands that end in claws, slightly larger than normal. Sharp teeth and red facial markings. Tended to wear torn up traveling robes/clothing in general. About 5'6-5'7 or so.

Artificer Crossover #20
The first one is wearing a heavy long coat, adorned with fur along the collar and cuffs, which isn't all that strange until you notice that she’s got wolf ears stuck to her head, the pair of them poking out through the top of an absolutely massive amount of white hair. Other than that, she’s pretty normal, a bit short maybe, with strangely yellow eyes until you look down and note blankly that she’s got unnaturally large, slightly fuzzy hands that have claws coming out of her fingers.

Hooo…

A day. Where you do nothing.

Amazing. Part of you is yelling at yourself, telling you to get up, DO a thing. Put your body in motion, dammit!

Another part of you is just yelling it down and noting that you deserve this for once. While you don’t lay in bed for a solid cycle...you do lay in bed for most of it. You missed your pajamas. You get a couple of texts from your workmates and friends informing you of their various completed jobs for the team, but aside from sending them a ‘good job’ and well-wishes…

Well, you just have some time to destress. A stretch, and you’re back asleep…

...lo?...Someo…thi-
...can’t-

The day after, you groggily wake up from your dreamless sleep, your head already filling with things to do today. A day off and doing absolutely nothing was nice, but...you’re gonna just drive yourself nuts if you keep at it. Well, at least you’ve got a pretty full day ahead.

First thing’s first- time to visit the shops. You’ve got a few things that need repairs.

“Helm and sword?” the dwarf asks. Your choice of repairman was honestly based more on distance than anything else, but he wasn’t considered bad, according to reviews. “Lesse here…” He eyes them both, flipping the flattened helm around, and then carefully inspecting the sword. After a few minutes with both, he gives his verdict. “The helm’s in pretty bad shape- it’s gonna be a lot of careful work to get it back to a usable state. The, ahem, ‘sword’ is in better condition, at least. Thing sorely needs sharpening, though, an given how big it is…” He pauses, to consider it all. “Let’s say 10 Large Motes for the both of ‘em.”

It's not like we can't scan it with FutureSight right now. Though if it is enchanted and he didn't notice/decided not to tell us then I don't know what to think of his professionalism. Honestly, it'd probably be much cheaper to go and find a specialized store where we can buy similar giant sword or helmet. OR fix these items on a job, using local currency.

>Though if it is enchanted and he didn't notice/decided not to tell us then I don't know what to think of his professionalism
Maybe he just assumed we checked already, and the enchantment is why it’s a bit pricey.
>>
>>3541730
Yeah, no, he's pretty much obligated to tell us if there are enchantments or not, and there was no mention of anything being special about our items when he told us what he needs to do in order to fix them.
Maybe we should ask Mitzi to recomend us some places where our items could be repaired and treated for a reasonable price.

While there isn't any reason for him to not tell us, (in fact he likely would to justify the high price,) he is in no way obligated to.

I mean this in the best of ways, because what you've done is awesome. I agree with you about the hair not necessarily being a good final look.

Maybe pull the bangs back from the eyeline so that her eyes can be seen better given that they're repeatedly mentioned to be yellow and wolfish.

In fact I'm surprised you went with bangs at all, it doesn't really go with the concept of "scraggly" to me.

Plus with the face tattoo it clutters up around her eyes too much. I honestly thought she had glasses on at first.

Sharper, stronger eyebrows and a more determined and defiant look, let's see. I think she's coming along nicely on my end.

About her facial markings : since she worships a god of wanderlust and travelling, I can think of a straight rough line (representing the main road) with some smaller marks aside (representing smaller paths). The marking on her forehead speaks of the sun and the moon, and to an extend the cycle of day and night. Those are rather simple, but I can't think of a more intricate design without cluttering up her face too much.

You purse your lips. 10 Large was a bit much; enchantment on the helmet or no (to which, you’re not sure if there really is anything major on it now, considering he never brought it up. Or he might just be being shady)... regardless, you’re not looking to spend such money right now. Maybe… “You sure you can’t go any lower? What, is the helmet special?”

He barks out a laugh. “Ha, only if you’d call the make o’ tha metal special. Reinforced iron, it was. Nothing particular ‘bout it. Can be a right pain to reshape proper once its hardened, mind. Least, for most. Trick to it, y’know- can’t just brute force ‘er.” He shakes he head. “Nah, most o’ the price is ‘cause it’d othawise be junk. Sword alone might run ya three, maybe four if’n ya want me to give ‘er a proper edge and bang out ALL the dents, not jus’ the big ‘un. Fairly typical barrin’ that.”

Hm. Well, that’s something to know. “Well, look. You wouldn’t happen to take Outgoer discounts, would you?” You flash your license at him in example. “Y’know, the whole ‘irreplaceable public service’ thing?” Hell, you might as well try it.

“Haw! Well, you folk keep this place movin’, I’ll grant ya that. Now, lesse...” He strokes his (rather long) beard in thought; his eyes a bit distant. “Mm...Tell ya what. Pay me three fer the sword. I’ll clean it up an’ alla that. Thing’ll actually have an edge. Helmet, I’ll take, too. You’ll pay me that on delivery, alright?”

“Hmm…” You have to admit, you’re curious as to the reason for the differing pay dates. “So, nine total?”

He shrugs, a bit of a twinkle in his eye as he does. “Could be. Could be less...a LOT less. We’ll see, won’t we? Provided we’ve a deal, that is.” So, he’s planning something with it...wonder what?

Also, I'm rereading Artificer crossover, and apparently Owlia's Magitech Gauntlet and Clockwork Auto-Turret both have miniaturized versions of Mana Reactor (so the turret can use mana to use its Shield Crystal and crystal-based IFF system that recognizes mana signatures). Plus Owlia took photos of bluebrints for everything that John made for girls. Do we still have time to ask Owlia to make some mana generator for bots so that they could use magical devices like Murmur Stones, spell-weapons, artifacts and other stuff?
>>
>>3545406
We could ask them, but we've been over this before. The techies' time and material is limited. If we keep asking them for all these odds and ends they'll never get anything of their own done.
>>
>>3545430

>>3545465
They don't need to be "real" people that we have to interact with, but they would cost motes that would come from our pockets and given how pricey everything is, i doubt that they will be cheap.

Found a couple of extra items we can put in the Lab Donation box. The potion should still be viable, so it's possible we can figure out it's ingredients, or the closest substitutions we can find. The poisons, less likely, but there's still a chance.

>Makeshift Noisemaker and Makeshift Remote
>Bot Scanner
>Basic Speedster frame legs
>Basic Balanced frame torso

>>3545490
So, basically like most of the outgoer service jobs already in the Intersection?
>>
>>3545741
I think that robo-parts are already in her posession, but it wouldn't hurt to make sure to ask Handler if that's true or not. As for stuff that we should donate I'd add Shield, Communication and Blasting Gems from Owlia's Old Lab (#28 >1292258) and Kowalski's Red Stones.
>>
>>3545741
Difference is that this would be a persistent job and we'd have to pay said person more than what we pay each month in dues because i'm sure that as outgoers we get to pay less to the dealmakers. In theory this would be paid by the company and not us, but im not sure how many motes that will withdraw from everyone's pay.
>>
>>3545927
That's kind of the problem. We're adding someone to our limited ten person roster who's more of an NPC who runs a shop in an RPG than an actual character.
>>
>>3545968
but if we don't interact with them at all they aren't a person, they are just a bunch of stats that help owlia make stuff faster. You know, like working in a call center.
>>
>>3546102
Exactly. I'd rather use those precious employee slots on people who are interesting characters with powers and/or skills who have more uses then sitting in the intersection making a progress bar go up. That's just me, though.
>>
>>3546102
Litteral nobody AND a drain on income? I don't think that would appeal to anons.
>>
>>3546139
we wouldn't be wasting "employee slots" on this NPC because all that they'd be would be a bunch of stats multipliers and maybe a mention here and there. The character slot limit is basically self imposed from a meta POV, but nothing stops us from having a bunch of NPCs that we're never gonna interact with helping us with menial chores.

Either way, this is an alternative for the anons that want stuff done faster but without having a named person taking up "employee slots"

>>3546146
Well, anons want stuff done faster but without having more named characters and other than straight up commissioning the stuff, this is the solution.
>>
>>3546160
> we wouldn't be wasting "employee slots" on this NPC because all that they'd be would be a bunch of stats multipliers and maybe a mention here and there. The character slot limit is basically self imposed from a meta POV, but nothing stops us from having a bunch of NPCs that we're never gonna interact with helping us with menial chores.

That's why I regret not picking up that magi-tech and prophetic orphan pair on the mob world.
>>
>>3546160
>>3546396

We're an Outgoer outfit, not an R&D group. The 2 techies cover our needs. No, wants don't count. We need to have Outgoers on the payroll, so we can actually make money instead of spending it.

If we had a more formal system of managing the techies I wager anons would stop wanting more more more out of them. But that would require tracking time and stuff, so I doubt Handler will want to mess with it.
>>
>>3546418
Could have had another non-crystal magitech savant (so far the best return on investment) along with prophetic predictions about jobs, instead we got twice as many scrub daycare kids kicking about.
>>
Reading back through the archives, I remembered something: on our shakedown with Mono, she had her first kill. I suspect the 'bots aren't going to be willing to do that this early, but it is something we're going to have to work with them on over time.
>>
>>3546425
>(so far the best return on investment)
We've used their product once or twice. The other recruits are out actually making Motes.

> along with prophetic predictions about jobs
Far from certain. The multiverse seems to break anything like that. Remember powers are severely limited in the intersection as well, which is why Mono can walk around for instance.

>kids
I'm not a huge fan, but other anons seem to like them so I let them have their time, as long as it doesn't drag on too long.

By the numbers, if we'd taken the orphans we wouldn't have been able to take the bots when the possibility appeared. Opportunity cost should be considered. What is being given up in order to get this?
>>
>>3546431
Owlia and Cylica busted a badass return right away with their crystal work with that one company.

I think they're getting residuals from patents too, no?

> Got the bots instead of magical orphans

Not thrilled about Lorelei sidekicks either, but I get that it's other people's childhoods that I just don't share.

Honestly >>3545741 points out the current case

> So, basically like most of the outgoer service jobs already in the Intersection?

The role is already there, the question is if it's cheaper to have them under our corporation or not.

If we can get some sort of background benefit plus having them easily acessible when needed then there's no change in narrative opportunity cost, only crunch bonus/malus balance.
>>
Ultimately, your curiosity wins out. Whatever he’s planning, you might be getting it cheap, and frankly that’s good enough. “I suppose so. You’ve got a deal.” Shaking his hand, you fork over the three and surrender the items to him. Hopefully he’ll be as good as his word.

After that whole thing is dealt with, next on the list is shopping. You need to restock on mines and C4, rockets, a few large mana crystals, all that good stuff. Hopefully you wouldn’t have to blow them all any time soon, but better to have and not need, as they say.

>Purchased x10 bricks of plastic explosives/C4.
>Purchased x30 ‘Highball’ Guidable Rockets.
>Purchased x10 ‘Moleworm’ Proximity Mines

Well, thinking about it, there was that silk that you got. Maybe you could use it in some customized clothing? You doubt there was enough there for anything major like a jacket or the sort, but something smaller, perhaps…

It takes a bit of searching, but you eventually find a custom clothier not too far away in the Crafter’s District that looks to be about your speed: a two-story shop/home that’s named ‘Massati’s Boutique Garments’. As you enter, your eyes are assaulted by pink.

A LOT of pink. Sitting around are mannequins of a number of varying shapes and sizes, showing anything from dresses for centaurs to wraps for harpies to even some kind of robe for squidpeople. Really does seem like she does a bit of everything. Impressive. A four-armed Naga sits at the counter in a rather interesting silk one-piece; she looks up from whatever she was idly browsing on her personal tablet and waves with one arm. “Greetings! How may I help you, customer?” Her voice is rough, but there’s still some lightness to it; it almost sounds like it’s just cracking.

“I’m here because I was thinking about getting something with some materials I picked up on a job,” you mention as you take out the rolls of Veilspeaker silk. “I’m an Outgoer, is the thing, and got some of this as a rewa-”

“Ooooooh!” She seems enamored as soon as you reveal the carefully encased silk. “Natural spider’s silk, is it? Interesting…”

“...right, so as I was saying. It was made by a group of spider-taurs, arachne, and I’m wondering if you can’t make something out of this- I know they can and have, so…” You almost think she’s not even listening to you; she’s already pulled out some sort of small eyescope thing and is taking a much closer look at the threads.

But, she nods once, firmly. “Look good. Tensile. What comes of this will be very strong. Can’t make anything too fancy, though- just not enough here. I’d say...something along the lines of a head covering, or a scarf, or a cummerbund, something of that sort. Maybe a particularly risque or plain dress if I were to use every inch...” she mutters. “Price depends on the task a bit, but with this.amount of fabric, I would estimate...somewhere around six to nine Large Motes. What were you hoping for?”

“Oh...well...hm…” agh, that’s a good question. Hadn’t really thought about it.

She shakes her head. “Okay, maybe put it like this: What do you want to express when you wear this?”

“Something along the lines of ‘ethereal wonder’,” you decide. “Not too intimidating, but something that inspires a sort of...curious awe, y’know? Not a scared curiosity, but ‘who or what IS this’?” She nods throughout your explanation, considering the parameters, and you can see two of her arms already reaching for a small sketchpad.

“You’ll want something noticeable, then. Perhaps a headband or head accessory. Something that flows with the body’s outline and accentuates it rather than creates a new one, I think…” She seems into it, at least. “Something flowing yet not too wide around the skull. I’ll need dye…” She goes into muttering to herself for a few minutes as she plans something out- but indeed, minutes are all she needs as she quickly turns the pad towards you.

What you see is something that’s a sort of long ribbonish mouthscarf, snaking up around your head and wrapped so that it frames the lot, and then coming back down into long ‘tails’ snaking down around your neck and down your back. “I think something like this would be ideal. Allows anyone to still see your eyes, and yet parts of your face remain unknown to them, inviting mystery. This would be six. What do you say?” She seems proud of it for having thought it up on the spot.

Fair enough. Six larges motes are given, and she immediately takes the material and disappears into the backroom. Seemed pretty eager.

>Current Motes: 60.70

With those tasks finished, that’s everything on your immediate to-do list done. There’s probably a few other things you could think of...but you’ll think of them back on the way home. Maybe you'll just take a ride around for a bit, see what's happening...

A few minutes later, however your phone dings. Checking it, you’re a bit surprised to see a pair of notices:

>Minus-One Storage System installed in Silver Eye Solution Headquarters! Enjoy!
>Beginning installation of your new room space! Thank you for using Ulti-struct!

Huh? Oh, right, the HQ Tasks. Well, at least those seemed to go well, if you recall the rewards for them. Still leaves you concerned about the moving gig, but the firearm exhibition should’ve been fine, and the vehicle showcase probably went fine. No notice about either of those, though, which is a bit concerning. You don’t see any complaint notices or anything, though.

Hopefully, they just aren’t the sort- you didn’t get any formal notice after your own thing, either. But, you’ll deal with that in due time. For now…

Hm. Well, you probably SHOULD get a weapon or two treated...you’ve gotten a few of them as of late. Just going to need to take a bit of a detour…

“Now, that face looks familiar!” Yup, same dude as last time, and he seems just as jolly. “Those swords doin’ right by ya?”

“They are,” you say easily, although one of them you rarely DO use… “which is why I’m back. I’m hoping to get something else done.”

“By all means!” He proclaims, grinning. Just remember, the more complicated the weapon's magical state, the more expensive the treatment'll be!" Right, then…

>What weapons do you want to treat? List here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Z3xqyWOe5upXuYIUsBSV4pWkC1sG0mnYzn_lJyRJZiI/edit?usp=sharing, but for ease of reading:

Those gauntlets have served you well enough- expensive as things are, those need to be priority. He whistles a bit as you take the gauntlets out- their emerald sheen is dull here; the Intersection’s own nature working against them, but they still cut an impressive image of raw natural might. “These. How much for them?”

“Hmmm…” He proceeds to do his hemming and hawing thing yet again, looking over every inch of the gauntlets and putting them through a couple of inspection tools for several minutes, making random noises of curiosity as he does so. It’s a relief when he finally stops, straightening up with a big grin. “Well, fortunately for you it’s not such a big issue this time. I suspect it’ll be around...eight large for these puppies. Won’t take but maybe two days. Sound good?”

He mulls it over, and purses his lips before shaking his head from side to side. “Whatcha got in mind?”

“These,” you say as you bring out the Shu-Rith and the curved sword Ferrah used. “Any thoughts on these?”

“Hmmm…” his inspection of these weapons, as it happens, doesn’t take very long at all; nodding, he looks to you and speaks casually. “Five large a piece. These’re mostly basic stuff, so basic prices. A day each. Might be willin’ to do ‘em both fer eight, save ya a mote. Gauntlets stay the same price, though, so total’ll be sixteen, an’ five days total. Sound fair?”

Well. That’s still pricey, but a lot better than what he tried to shake out of you before. Still… “Willing to go down to an even fourteen?”

So, it looks like the Minus-One Armory will be ready in a day or two, Gauntlets treated in 2, Drider Silk Item in 4-5 days, and the dwarven repairman will call when he's finished with our helm and sword?
We can spend a day training with bots (gotta let them familiarize with our skillset too), work on techniques with one of the girls next day, and then go pick up the Gauntlets. We could also try to pull rank and tell Lori to buy gear for bots in our stead.

Wish we could find someone who can take care of these mundane things. First thing first is to find a way to fix that interdimensional communicator so in any case Owlia or Celica reports something it would be directed to us and transfer it to Izumi. Lorelei can be unpredictable sometimes and mostly easily distracted. We have too many things to sort out too. At least if we are going to get items from other world's might as well sell them for motes/lotes. Perferably in our auction house if we have one. Last of all, can we have something of a job preview. A bulletin board of sorts. But then again it is strictly handled by Sal.

TL;DR came for Miranda other world quests and not for this corporate simulator thingy or at least have something to simplify it so it wouldn't be buried under 10 threads until another job came up.
>>
>>3548982
Well, let's see.
During this intermission we've visited six(6) different places to sort out our loot from the last job: Library donations, repairs for stuff we broke, Item-crafting place, Item-treatment, and then Kowalski's and Lorenzo's to restock>>3547460. Maybe we should tone down our munchkinism and loot hoarding tendencies (12 different weapons, 4 of which are swords, man!).
The HQ meetings are done roughly twice a year, so we REALLY need to make most out of them, which I think we did: made a training schedule so the newbies would train off-screen more often, got in touch with everyone in our outfit, chose what to do with our aircraft for the time being, assigned HQ tasks, purchased new room and donated part of our hoard to R&D.
We've spent time with kids and starred in a movie, but it looks like that's not what you're interested in.
Half of the things that were done during this intermission - are the things that anons were planning over the time of the last mission. All that is left to do now is to work on our techniques and prepare the bots, so could you please show some patience? And come on, 'ten threads' is clearly an exaggeration, that spoiler makes you sound annoyingly whiny.
>>
>>3548792
that's pretty frazzly, yeah!
>>
>>3549814
The loot hoarding was for two main reasons. One, before we fixed the upgrading system, loot had the best chance of being an "upgrade". Two, it didn't cost us anything to collect, and if it wasn't useful to us we could always sell it for a few extra Motes.

Otherwise, you've got the right of it. Missions are long enough that a little housekeeping between them isn't a bad thing.
>>
>>3549814
>Maybe we should tone down our munchkinism and loot hoarding tendencies (12 different weapons, 4 of which are swords, man!).

As the guy who tried to stat the new weapons, I kinda thought it would go off of Dark Souls' idea of how different swords are used, with straight swords used being the most balanced, rapiers used mainly for thrusting and parries, curved swords for speedy attacks, ultra greatswords for heavily damaging but slow attacks, that sort of thing. I do admit, though, that I am the type of player who likes using every weapon at least a couple of times, so grabbing every unique weapon is kind of a thrill for me.
>>
>>3549852
Honestly I thought that was what we WERE going to do. Sell all the stuff we aren't going to use. The baron's rapier and the flamebringer are all the swords we need until we loot The Sword of Judgement or something. Sell these other ones.
>>
>>3550254
I think we should either leave them in our new armory so anyone interested could pick them up (like a community chest), or hand them out personally to the members of our outfit.
>>
>>3550254
It's a little difficult. Naturally, before we sell them we'll want to know if they might be useful instead. But that means Handler has to come up with stats and descriptions for them all, which would be wasted if we do sell them.
>>
>>3550294
Yeah but in the end, Miranda is so physically strong and skilled with weapons it doesn't really matter what we use. Especially not when we can chest with magic at any time.

We're not playing a video game with numeric stats, we're a bruiser with a hundred years of experience and millions of confirmed kills if you count collateral.
>>
Thinking about it...it’s not really the best idea to put up money for weapons you’re probably not going to use. Might as well keep it simple. “On second thought, just the gauntlets should be fine, then. Not sure if the others’ll be used too much.”

“Righto, then!” He doesn’t seem sad at the take back, but rather just takes the gauntlets as you hand over the money. “I’ll contact you, then, when they’re set!”

“Thanks.” Well, with that settled...

>Current Motes: 52.70

You need to get in touch with the bots. It’s time to get them warmed up for their little excursion. You quickly call Lorelei, who ropes the two in after explaining what you want with them. “...so just make sure they know what’s going on.”

“Roger!” Lorelei chips back. “They’re gonna be awesome, though, don’t worry!”

“I’m not; just want to see for myself. Later.” Likely they’ll be there before you, so you need to pick up the pace…

----------

You can already hear them both discussing something as you arrive in. “It’s really nothing to be concerned about, I think!”

“Haw! Who’s concerned? I jus’ think it’s hilarious! Now, if’n you wanna go about an’...” Turning, he quickly notices you entering the training area, and cuts himself off. “Ah, nevamind. Boss’s here.” He and Prima focus on you, now. “So, whatcha got fer us? Said we’re gettin’ a run through afore showtime, yeah?”

“In a way,” you confirm. “We all need to be used to each other’s abilities, so I’ve decided that the best way to do that is…”

It would matter if these weapons were enchanted to do something outside of her skillset. They also help with hiding her power-level or creating a persona on our jobs. And don't forget about things like anti-magic fields that would ruin Miranda's day, leaving her only with her fists.
By the way, Handler noted multiple times that Miranda is not THAT good with weapons or magic, and there are plenty of people who'd hand her ass over to her in terms of skill, strength, magic power, etc.

“Sparring. One at a time against me, and I’ll see how you hold up.” They both look at each other briefly, before Prima nods and steps up. Fair enough. “I won’t go for any major damage- this is mostly to see how your decision making and reactions in combat stack up, as well as your general ability set.”

“Understood. A full-purpose evaluation.” Prima says evenly. “I will perform to the best of my abilities while at less-than-lethal levels.”

You’re not sure if you should dissuade her or not- although all things considered, she should at least realize you’re not exactly baseline human. “Right. Take your place opposite me on the circle, and we go after the count of three.” She does so, and interestingly enough, you can see her form suddenly shift- the ‘kimono’ she’s made of suddenly splits down the center, tightens, and wraps around her legs in layers of armor, her collar rising up to mask her lower ‘face’, and her wide sleeves slipping in on themselves, shifting back, and becoming something closer to piercing extrusions extending to the sides.

You have to admit, you weren’t expecting that. She nods at you once, the now ninja-esque robot taking a combat position. “At your command.”

Well. Might actually be interesting. “Alright. Three...two...one...go!”

She charges, and the fight is on as Jago lets out a whoop of excitement.

The first thing you notice is that her reflexes are actually pretty impressive. She’s not doing half bad in regards to keeping pressure up on you, and whenever she delivers her own strikes, they’re precise and intentional. You can deflect or block most of them, and the few that slip through (whether intentionally or not) do have a touch of force behind them. You’re honestly wondering what tripped her up in the tests- although you do have an inkling of an idea, as you slip behind her and she performs the same sequence of attacks and pre-emptive countermovements for the third time.

You can see that although she’s certainly not a slouch, she’s mostly specced for agility, reactions, and speed- support, as was stated. Not to mention that she’s hardly done any sort of non-melee techniques at all. At least, none that you can tell. Even defensively, when you started attempting magi-waves (or at least as much of one as you can eck out in the Intersection without a permission field) she had little defense against them except to just take it- which didn’t last her very long.

After a couple more minutes, you leap back, hands up. “Alright, that’s enough for now. Think I get the idea. Jago? Your turn.”

“Finally!” Well, HE certainly seems excited. Although you figured as much- from what Lorelei told you, he’s far more equipped to fight. “Let’s ‘ave a go, then!”

(cont)
>>
>>3550833
“Same positions,” you state. “Three...two...one...go!”

“YAAARGH!” He charges straight for you, and you immediately can guess what HE’S all about.

Jago proves to be more of a brawler, as you expected; although you’re surprised at how canny he can be as well- although his initial instinct was to try and surprise you, that reckless charge very quickly tapered off and he tried more his luck with hit and runs, and the occasional attempt at harrassment from range with his hook. His fighting style is surprisingly mobile, as well; although with Prima you had the image of a dancer of sorts- multiple small movements to make up for sheer power, Jago is the opposite of that- a momentum heavy sort that charges into the fray at high speed, then charges out again. His strikes are clearly far more heavy than Prima’s- you actually start to feel sore after taking a few on the forearms thanks to the mitigation in the Intersection. Still, he’s bullheaded to the point where it could cost him- at one point you break space and manage a (small and weak) magiblast that he simply barrels through, and you sidestep his charge to swing him around briefly before tossing him clear. He doesn’t seem to really worry much, launching his hook at you as you close distance, but you sidestep it, and get within arm’s reach as you rear back- he braces for a punch, but the moment before impact, you stop it. “Not bad.” Not great, but not bad. “Head on over and we can discuss what we might want to do.”

“What were the results of your examination?” Prima asks curiously. “Upon personal review, I realized that my unique capabilities are...less than useful against organic individuals.” She seems a bit disheartened at that, the way her eyes dim and her head dips.

Well…

Range is a straightforward fix. Tactics are something training can actually help with.

“Well, the biggest thing is your lack of range,” you decide. “You shouldn’t have to be forced to close distance- that’s just risky. We’ll have to get you something to mitigate that weakness. Some tactical concerns, but that’ll come with training and experience.” She nods once, but doesn’t respond. Wonder what she thinks of it all?

“Yeah? An’ what about me?” Jago asks brusquely.

“You’re mostly similar, actually,” you respond. “Just need something besides that hook for ranged combat.”

That's easy to solve with a small time skip with us rolling for sruff we wish to improve during the week.

Unless people want to spend each day micro-managing everything of Miranda's daily life.

Training, yes. That takes a day at most. The bots will need to learn to operate while damaged, and if they get critical we can have them emergency warp back and finish the job ourselves.

>Unless people want to spend each day micro-managing everything of Miranda's daily life.
i would like that. Maybe not full micro management, but she's the main character, yet we don't know how is her life outside the missions. We could even consider it a mission in of itself.

You shrug. “It’s worth at least getting a few essentials for you. I expect Lorelei or Izumi would be willing to loan a couple things.” You’re not loaning them any money, though- not for anything big like this.

“I suspect Ms. Lorelei would be amendable to letting me borrow a weapon or two…” Prima muses.

“Yeah, prolly,” Jago agrees. “Dunno about the otha lass, though.”

“If need be, I’ll convince ‘em,” you offer. “But I don’t think that’ll be necessary. At any rate, we can go over a few things more later in the week. Give you some time with things. For now, weapons.”

Prima nods eagerly. “Right! We should go now, then!” Meh, why not? Jago doesn’t seem to be too fussed, either.

------------

“Guns? Really?” Lorelei seems oddly disappointed after you manage to explain the situation. You’re both in her living room at the moment. “C’mon, they’re super adorable and cool robots! They could do better than normal guns! Heck, I was there! I KNOW they could do better!”

“Maybe later when they’re bringing in motes properly,” you rebut. “But for now, we’ll stick to the tried and true, okay? So, if you’ve got anything that could help…”

“Mmm…” she takes a bit to think, eyes off into space a bit. “I think I got something for Big J. Hold on.” She takes a moment to go to her room, and comes back out with a rather bulky looking submachine gun. “This thing has a lotta kick, but I never use it. He can have it for now. Watch your ammo count, though.”

“Ripper,” Jago nods as he inspects the weapon closely. “Good stuff, then?”

“Yeah, it packs a wallop,” she confirms. “So be careful. As for Pri-pri...welll...hmm...oh!” She darts back, and comes back in with a pistol you vaguely remember. That engraving- oh yeah, the western thing with Flashpoint. “This oughta be fine, so long as nothing too bad happens!”

“You have my gratitude!” Prima says as she accepts the weapon quickly. “I’ll make the utmost use of it.”

“Any time!” Lorelei grins. “So, what’s the plan from here?”

“I’m gonna put them through their paces,” you insist. “Myself, too.”

“Oooh, whatcha workin’ on?” she asks.

Good question.

My vote's for Chain Lightning/Electric Shield. I think we need more mid-ranged AOE options, since we already have the magic fire thingy for sabotages and further utilities with sticky mana and those healing gloves that SHOULD work on the bots.

That, or focus on Mental Protection Training since it gives immediate results.

Creating a taser by conducting Shock Touch through Tether would help a lot.

Anyways, boss, I've added in our old weapons to the pastebin I've made, described if they are enchanted or technologically enhanced, how they can be activated or if Miranda even knows if they are magical or how to activate them, and how much ammunition the firearms can hold.

Hopefully this can help with what we know about what our magical weapons and high-tech weapons can do.

Well, the word “Thunder” in front of the word “Light” kind of influenced my decision to make it Lightning based, along with it’s color scheme of grey and gold, which makes me think of thunderstorms. Question: Does the mental protection only works for mind-control or can we apply that to mind reading too?
>>
>>3553110
it should work because we're denying the entrance of any foreign influence into our head.
>>
>>3553067
Your mind fogs as you read the words on the paper, your head going somewhere else, and a tingling in the back of your skull is your only notice before your snap to attention. Ducks. Cheese, Rhinoplasty, Carrots, Wheelhouse, Ale, left of the station.
The fog clears briefly, and you raise your right hand.

There’s a clapping behind you, and a cheer. “Alriiiight! Nailed it! Okay...one more time!” The young men that Lorelei brought to you were surprisingly adept in mental intrusions or manipulations, and were perfectly willing to help out a friend of a friend. While a decent portion of it WAS base willpower and emotional control, as you’d used in the past, they happened to know a few tricks to keeping people out as well, largely based on prior experience.

Kumquat, sheer heat, charnal, blank, turtles, fences, toothpicks. One of those tricks was surprisingly simple. ‘Most people need to focus when trying to do the whole mind control thing’, the first guy, a mohawked dude simply name Tyler J had said. ‘And they’re usually listening in on everything you think. So best thing is to throw ‘em off when you can tell someone’s tryin’ to get in. Just starting thinking of things off the top of your head. Usually confuses them enough to let you do something.’ It’d worked out for you so far, but you’re plenty aware that there’s more than that out there. Still, it helped, which is what matters.

“Nice!” Tyler at the least seems happy about your progress as the fog clears again, and your left arm rises at your command. You’re being tested simply by sitting down and them attempting to keep you there. You needed to continue moving of your own volition. “Okay, now Lawson’s turn.”

(cont)
>>
>>3553171
Boss, i think you missed one update
>>
>>3553171
Lawson’s style was a bit different. Whereas Tyler was more a physical influencer, Lawson’s thing was genuinely more cerebral. Whispers in your head that made you act in a different manner than normal with you hardly recognizing.

‘Wring his neck. Do it!’ He was that little voice on your shoulder. ‘He’s been insufferable. His voice is so annoying, his fashion sense is idiotic!’ And it was hard to deal with. ‘He’d probably just crack a stupid joke.’ Which is why in those cases...the trick was simple, yet difficult. ‘It’s not even hard!’ Not to ignore it, but to...put it on the backburner. Acknowledge it, but for later. And then KEEP putting it off. It certainly helps, but by itself it isn’t a total defense…

...at least, not without mana.

By all accounts, depending on the type of mental manipulation that was being attempted, you’d learned that should you effuse your skull with mana (harder than it sounded, however, without serious risk to your...everything above the neck) it could act as something of a ‘tinfoil hat’ and assist defense against most typical mindhack attempts...provided you knew it was coming or it was in the process of happening, that is. You’ve managed a slight ‘cheat’ with your flare-up trick, but that would be a bit too much for a specific defense...still, you’ve got something to work on now.

>Theoretical Concept of ‘Mental Barrier’ unlocked!

“Phew!” Lawson sighs a bit in exertion after a few more minutes of attempted cajoling, his sweater not doing him any favors here. His single eye nods in approval. “I think you’ve got the basic idea now. Really, all that’s left to do is practice, and hope for the best!”

Tyler nods. “Yeah, we been at this for a couplea days now; all that’s really left is puttin’ it to work. Mind junk is more about flexin’ your brainmeats than anything else. We can come by again if’n ya want, but...”

“Oh, wait!” Lawson digs in his shirt pocket before pulling out what seems to be some kind of...small hairclip- one with an aquamarine jewel on it. “Me an’ my sis both can do this kinda stuff, and this is supposed to kinda help with the whole ‘heads up’ thing. Y’know, cause issues. It don’t work too well here, though, an’, well, she don’t really need it anymore. Said you could have it.”

“Not going to say no to free stuff,” you remark as you accept it. It’s not quite your speed, but if it works as advertised, you won’t complain...much.”

“I believe you made excellent progress today,” Prima says, getting up from her kneeling position. Jago is lazed out in the corner; the three of you generally preferring to practice and spar before your own mental training- you’d initially said after, but the two insisted that working on it when you were tired would pay dividends down the line since you’d still know what to do even when your mind was already a bit exhausted. Prima for her part had been getting a LOT better at judging reactions, and her aim when you took her to the OTC had become impeccable in short order.

Jago was on a similar trajectory, although you noticed he was still more inclined to close distance than try to assault from afar...you chalked that up to his programming, however. Some habits are harder to break than others. Still, improvement was improvement- and at least yesterday it'd given you the opportunity to test your newly treated gauntlets again. Decent results, even with the extremely low mana you could put into it- and metal was fully repairable, so yay. As he rises into a sitting position, he glances over your way. “Done yet?”

“Pretty much,” you confirm as the guys say their farewells and head out of HQ.

“Grand,” he grumbles. You’ve been running them hard for the last few days, having them go over strategies and implementing them into simulated sequences both within their own CPU and via the OTC’s facilities. It’d gotten to a point where, although they didn’t need rest perse, they’d both asked for ‘cooldown time’ once or twice. While Prima seems to be just as effervescent as ever, though, Jago’s been getting more and more disgruntled, oddly enough. Not enough to be outright belligerent, but enough that his mood is noticeably more surly than normal. You’re not sure why- moreso, you’re not sure if you should even bring it up right now.

Bah. Better to just clear the air now, you suppose. You don’t want this coming back on you during job time. “Something off, Jago? You’re getting awfully snippy all of a sudden. Not a good mindset to have before setting out on a job.”

“Yeah, well, t’ain’t you, so…” he grumbles a bit, but that’s all. “Ya mind me takin’ off for a bit?” Oddly enough, you swear he looks a bit...cagey, of all things. Well, maybe that’s not the right word for it. Wary?

“I suppose you can, but why do you ask?” You doubt he’ll say, but it might be a decent way to judge what’s going on with him via his reaction.

“Dontchu worry about it. Nothin’ troublesome.” Almost all at once, you can see his posture relax bit by bit. You can tell that whatever was worrying him, you’ve just assuaged it a touch. In fact, he seems almost...eager. “I’ll be back afore long. Just need ta check up on somethin’!” With that, he marches out, his footfalls growing a bit more rapid before they vanish from hearing range.

You spare a look at Prima, who merely shrugs in response. So, she doesn’t know either, huh? Wonder what’s up with him? Well, his secrets are his own, you suppose. So long as they don’t cause you any trouble, anyway. At least he should be in a better mood whenever he gets back...although that means that team training is done for now. Until he gets back, at least...

Well, might as well look a bit more into that Minus-One Storage System. You’d eyeballed it a bit, but never really looked at it closer. Might as well get a bit more familiar with it in the meantime…

>Your ‘Minus-One’ Storage System is your one-stop shop for keeping all your favored weapons safe, secure...and sellable! Aside from typical storage, Minus-One’s systems are set up so that any weapons you KNOW you’re not going to ever use can be put up on the open market for sale, or either directly to interested vendors or private persons immediately. However, let it be known that you’ll have to deliver the weapon in person (for the purposes of security and assurance of quality, of course), and it’s entirely random who might show interest, or how much the weapon will actually go for.

It was just a regular sword, if it was enchanted then we would've seen it back then. Same goes for the whip - if it was supposed to be enchanted then why didn't she use it to get an edge over us? I kind of want to keep the whip, since we have the whole "mana tether" ability, practice with the whip could teach us a lot about that.

Just because a whip isn't used as a weapon, doesn't mean it's useless.
>>
>>3561607
Keep ahold of the enormous axe. It would be nice to at least try it out.
>>
>>3561702
Uhh, I think fighting against their user counts for checking in my book. Why would Ferrah not use these enchatments? She knew that Miranda was incredibly skilled and strong, why would she handicap herself against such opponent?
>>
>>3561710
Anything bought here would also likely be significantly superior to local sourcing, allowing us to be much more confident using it - especially as we don't know jack about poisoning people, or near-people.
>>
>>3561716
The whole "Muh Honor" thing she had going probably kept her from using it against someone without a magical weapon, and by the time she learned that we wern't just any scrub, it was too late. They could also have been ritual components, seeing as that place was focused on rituals, and by researching them with the FutureSight we could learn how to perform them.

And anyway, just assuming that they have no enchantment isn't the same as scanning them and making sure they absolutely, positively don't have any enchantments. They could be situational, yes, but we don't know until we scan them.

If possible consumables should be procured on-site, especially if we plan on using them on that mission. They're just too expensive otherwise. There is a higher likelihood Intersection-bought poisons will work on a wide variety of targets, but If we could get them from local allies I'd trust them to have a good understanding of how to kill each other better than a general poison.
Maybe get a small amount here as a backup but try and source local when possible would be the safest.

Deciding against it after some internal debate, you instead figure on making a quick pitstop of your own…

“Whoa,” Lorelei says as you hand the dangerous-looking blade to her. Jago had contacted Prima, and informed her that ‘everythin’s apples, I’ll be ‘round in not too long!’ in his own words that Prima were rather reluctant to imitate. As such, you’d decided to thank Lori in the interim. “You scored this off the last job, huh?”

“Yeah. Figured you might like it. A bit more subtle than what I’m used to. Not that I use swords much anyways.” As she inspects it here and there, she grins, giving it a few light test swings after finding its weight acceptable. “There’s a way to infuse poison on the thing, and I’m pretty sure you have to say the words on the hilt to do it. FutureSight has enough lingusitic translation stuff on it to be able to handle that, though.”

“Swank!” Well, she seems happy. “Yeah, I could see myself using this. Shame it’s not a little smaller, though. Oh well! You decided on what kinda job you takin’ the duo out on yet?”

What are your assumptions are based off then? Where did the idea that they even had any enchantments came from? I re-read that fight, and there was absolutely nothing special in description of those weapons that indicated anything 'special' about them, except that the sword was 'curved' and the whip was 'heavy', while you just hand-wave my arguments by saying that big spider general, an experienced warrior, who totally knew that Miranda wasn't a chump in the first place, INTENDED to avoid using enchantments in that fight and then tell me that I'm assuming things.

Big motes and Mecha driving seems cool but collateral damage rider and RANK B difficulty make me think twice about choosing it. That and 1-2 outgoers. I want to bring either Lori or Mono or Owlia with us for loot stuff but whatever

>2) Frakkin’ SCRAP
Annoying client but I see looting potential. And just what Lori says no collateral damage rider, so we can murder anything who faces us or whatever the client wants.

>3) Outrun
Also loot potential but more riders to be wary of and sounds like we have to sneak and investigate shit around there. Also i can see double crossing or infiltration or hacking side jobs.

This is early yet. All they really need are the ranged weapons we got for them and a Bag of Holding. Randa will have her bag of tricks if something more exotic is needed, and it'll show them how to get by with the fundamentals. Being able to work with what you have is an important skill for a field agents of any type, especially as they can't fall back on brute force to the same degree Randa can.
>>
I just now realized we could just plug Jago's and Prima's core into a giant mecha... giving then giant bodies and so allowing then to 'pilot' the mechas.
>>
>>3562679
Not necessarily. Technology has to be designed with the intent to be compatible, that's why there are groups dedicated to designing and organizing standards. Tech from different universes would be even less likely to be compatible.

That's not to say you couldn't jury rig something to make it work, but it wouldn't necessarily be plug and play.
>>
>>3562697
On the other hand, we are coming with robots and we usually transform into beings that more or less fit into the new world. We have high chances that jago and prima will transform into something that can take control of the mecha or at the very least be able to hack into one.
>>
>>3562703
Prima was a pretty good hacking bot. For her universe that is...don't know how her program will work out in different worlds.
>>
>>3562909
Our magic works regardless of the universe we're in. Its safe to assume that a similar thing will happen here.

It doesn’t take you too long to decide. “Let’s try this one,” you state, marking the job with the mechs. “Good payout. Hopefully we won’t have to worry too much about any rival operations like they say. Could theoretically be an in-and-out if everything goes acceptably.”

“You mean it may be a fast operation?” Prima asks, and you nod in confirmation. “Oh. That would be preferable, perhaps. I must admit my curiosity as to the requirements and their relation.”

You find yourself agreeing with her. “Yeah. AI Control Assistant? For what, the mecha itself? I mean...” You don’t think most mecha need anything that sounds like that, so maybe it’s for something else? “...whatever. Anyway, we’ve got our gig. Let’s take a look at the details.”

Or we could also rent them for an extra influx of cash.

While you’d picked up the gauntlets already, as they simply needed to be treated, the repairs took longer, although when you arrive, the dwarf’s grinning from ear to ear. “Aha! Jus’ tha lass I wanted to see! Grand news, simply grand! Yer helmet an’ sword’s fresh as anythin’ now! Plus a bit besides!”

My, but he’s jubilant. You can’t help but wonder why. “Oh? Sounds promising.”

“Aye, and I nevah even touched ‘em!” He seems awful proud of that for whatever reason- and suddenly he turns around, calling to the back. “CELLA! Get out ‘ere, yer client’s waitin’!” Ah. And suddenly everything’s made clear.

From out the back steps a short, plump thing of a dwarf- part of you was expecting some muscular, squat thing, but aside from some arm definition, she reminds you more of a roll of bread than a half-height warrior. She has long, golden-blonde hair, however, and side tresses that you swear are sideburns going down to her jawline. Framing it all is a small pair of spectacles that she adjusts nervously. “Ah, hello! It’s VERY niceto meet you!” Poor thing seems shy- having a tough time controlling her voice. “I was, uh, in charge of repairing your items, and I’m GLAD to say they, uh, cameoutwell!” She presents you the sword and helmet, the latter balanced on top of the former, and places them on the countertop in front of you.

“‘Well’, she says!” the old dwarf guffaws, patting her on the back before turning to you. “Lookit here! Improved the platin’ on the top end and restored the sides- there was microtears in this helm before, all gone! Even managed a slight lil’ enchant on ‘er. What was it, ‘gain?” He turns to his daughter, heatedly blushing under all the praise.

“S-softening, that’s all…” she mumbles.

“Right, that! Dulls the edge o’ anything sharp what hits ya a bit. Oh, an speakin’ of sharp! Yer sword? HA! Thing’s monstrous now, good an’ proper. Weighted squarely, given an edge. Makes ya look scary as all hells now! And t’was her what did it all!” He pulls his daughter in a close half-hug, which she returns embarrassedly. “First real non-apprentice work and the lass utterly crushes it!”

“I...guess…” she mutters, to a simple chuckle from him.

“Now then!” Releasing her, he focuses his attention back onto you. “These are works of art now, right? Should be sellin’ ‘em for double digits! But, I madeja a deal. So, howsabout two fer the helmet? Call it half price?”

You highly doubt you’ll get any better than that, and accept the deal gracefully.

Well...on the whole, you have to admit, you’re impressed. Getting their number and contact information (Grizzi’s Repairs and Modifications), you leave them with the suggestion that you might be back. As for your next stop…

Massati’s Boutique Garments seems a bit busier today, but as soon as she sees you, she nods in welcoming. “Ahh, greetings. Your garment is indeed ready. Just a few moments…” She’s busy checking out another customer, but once that passes, she quickly fetches your own request.

It’s a bit thinner than you’d have preferred, but it’s sheer, gossamer flowing make is impressive in its own right. “The silk proved a bit more difficult to work with than I expected,” she admits a bit sadly. “Some had to be thrown out, and I had to make due with implementing some more mundane material to get the full effect. However, I do think that the result was worthwhile, though I will understand if you’re unsatisfied…” The resulting scarf is blueish-silver, and shimmers almost like stars, or maybe glistening water. As you try it on, you find it’s surprisingly comfortable, even. You’re not a fan of the risk to the neck (presuming it doesn’t transform too harshly, which it might), but as a functional yet pretty piece of clothing, it works.

And when you get there, Jago is waiting, almost impatiently, judging by his foot taps. "Oy! Finally. Thought ya'd left without me!"

"Nonsense," Prima says primly. "We're merely finishing up preparations. Here." she says, handing him a bag, which he takes without complaint. "An external infinite storage device. Make sure not to get inside of it."

"Right," he says idly, head tilting slightly. "So, now what're we doin'?"

You huff a bit. "We're going to rent a few things. Owlia-"

"You rang?" Holy shit that was quick. Blinking briefly, you mention a few other things you want to donate. Her expression is...odd, actually. Almost apologetic? "Hey, so...I appreciate you throwing all this stuff my way, and it's SUPER COOL, but, uh...y'know I'm not a robot, right? Uh, no offense," she mutters, looking at Prima and Jago.

"None taken," they both assure.

"Right. Anyway, I'm not gonna be able to really look at any of this stuff without any help for a while. Just so ya know. Buuut, we can talk about that later!" And now her grin's back. "For now, there ARE some things you can help me research!"

Sounds like fun. Any ideas of what we'll need to get that look.
>>
>>3563346
I think they do? at least when the full suit is worn. I clearly remember that we did have some nice extras on that meta job with the super that steals powers.
>>
>>3563346
I think going with Miranda's normal load out would be enough for it.
>>
But what we obviously need to sell the post apocalypse look is some sun glasses
>>
>>3563346
Uh, but it does? During Artificer crossover Miranda got hit multiple times, resulting in armor plating being damaged or blown off completely, but the only time she got hurt was when a power-armored merc got a direct hit in her chest.
>>
>>3563357
So,
>aviator sunglasses(we have a pair, i think?)
>Power armor chestplate
>some jeans
and that's it.
>>
>>3563346
Unfortunately, no, but I’d like to put in the helmet we just got repaired to see it’s enchantment in action. Could end up looking like one of those Fallout super mutant helmets.

>>3563363
We also have

>Clear Sunglasses (BOUGHT)
>(Plainness +2 / Intimidation -2)
>>
>>3563367
We could replace Miranda's normal shoes for another but i think the goal is to use what we have and not spend more motes on clothes.

>Plated Shoes
>Leather shoes with steel plates on both the tongue of the shoes as well as the toes. With further padding and protection on the heel as well, these boots are made for combat more than anything else.
> (Intimidation +1 / Hothead +1 / Plainness -1)
>>
>>3563346
Also some stuff from their description
>Power Armor
Helps deflect small arms fire entirely, but not as good without it's AI directing it.
>Shell Legs
these blue and white colored metal legs encompass the entire lower body and provide excellent protection, as well as enhanced speed and strength- if they get their AI directives, anyway.
>AI Headwear
Activates set bonuses
>>
Y'know what? There's a thing I want to go to anyway, so I'm gonna let this sit overnight and the job will start proper tomorrow. Get a full day in, y'know?

Have fun with the speccing out.

Came up with 3 options

Power Armor Enforcer Set
-Power Millitant Armor - protects body, deflects small arms
-Power Shell Legs - protects legs
-Power Soldier's AI - activates set bonus
Set bonus: activates strength and speed enhancement from Shell Legs, improves protective capabilities of Millitant Armor
-Big'n'Proper Bowtie - decreases Intimidation

Stats:
Intimidation A
Humor E+
Otherworldly E
Hothead C
Plainness D-
Can add Backpack and Gloves to decrease Intimidation

Pros: look at all this protection
Cons: not original

Wasteland Punk
Clear Sunglasses
Miranda's Jacket
Red Stripe Shoes - to increase Hothead stat
Flavor stuff - wear a Scarf from previous job like a bandana, put on 'Divinity' Respirator cuz that's whst all post-apoc LARP'ers do

Stats:
Intimidation B-
Humor D-
Otherworldly E-
Hothead C+
Plainness D+

Pros: fits the setting
Cons: actually these stats are garbage and don't provide any bonuses for this rank B mission

Enchanted Warlord Set
Ferrah's Helmet - melee softening enchantment
Power Millitant Armor - body protection, deflects small arms
*Mastercrafted* Divine Shoes - more mana for low magic world
*Mastercrafted* Pleasant Necklace - empathetic enchantment, so we won't be as unapproachable like back in Summon Job
Prim Gloves
Travaelers Backpack - lowers Intimidation

Stats:
Intimidation A
Humor D
Otherworldly E+
Hothead C
Plainness C+ (believe it or not)

Pros: enchantments 4life + (Intimidation) options
Cons: can't lower your intimidation
>>
>>3563481
Man yours were way more creative then mine.
>>
>>3563481
More cons for Options 1&3 - powergaming too hard. Pros: that's what these items were intended for
>>
>>3563476
I dig this one. Do you have the final stats at hand? i have the feeling that we might be a little bit high on otherworldly (also we should use the scarf as our bandana, even if its also technically on the head spot.)
>>
>>3563481
+1 on Power Armour Enforcer Set, Plus the Divine Shoes if we can. Gotta get as much Mana as we can, Just in case.
Maybe add the Scarf to become a post apocalyptic Camen Rider.
>>
>>3563497
Its not powergaming, but i don't think that the enchantments work that way. Also, because ferrah's helmet is treated, it won't change shape, which will look very out of place.

>>3563481
I like the first one but it makes us a really juicy target. Also, i feel its too master chief for a post apocalyptic world.
I propose a merge between yours and >>3563476

I haven't done the math with the stats but this should make us look as someone more competent (and mystical) than our client but at the same time we will look like we are part of the world they live in.

Ferrah's Helmet is a piece of clothing, not a weapon. So yes, it would meld and change shape. *Enchantments* provide *special effects* that work on your entire body, at least that's what I assumed from looking at item descriptions in the store.
>>
>>3563481
>Power Armor Enforcer Set
+1 for that set. Very fitting for a robotic/tech world.
>>
>>3563481
Personally, I wanna go full munchkin with Warlord set.
>>
I just wanted to go with a badlands badass. Like it was spoked by some so i though that Hothead and intimidation would be good. While the otherworldly might help us out with some beasts. Since it says that otherworldly helps in scarying then away.
>>
>>3563535
Thanks!

So, taking in consideration her base stats and what i combined here >>3563522, her end stats would be:

Intimidation: B+
Humor: E-
Otherworldly: B-
Hothead: B-
Plainness: C

It;'s lacking on humor. I'm gonna make some changes.

>>3563543
Except the helmet was treated, which means that it will work in the same way as the flamebringer: it won't change shape, but it will keep its full enhancements.
>>
>>3563554
Please do remember what having intimidation at level A caused last time? Some of the times people were to afraid to even talk to us...and that's why i want to keep intimidation or any stats really bellow A-

I also think that i copied the wrong stats. oh well.

>>3563561
That what he told us when we asked him about treating the gauntlets; if we didn't treat them, the gauntlets would end up giving us just a passive boost to our healing instead of doing what they do.

>>3563574
I hope i'm doing the stats right. I'm very unused to a letter ranking instead of the normal numeric one.
>>
>>3563574
I dunno, I kinda like the idea that we go around as some spooky wasteland myth, like we’re some sort of waster gun for hire who comes in to town one day, wastes the local gang for trying to steal our bots and our swords, then walks back to the desert leaving a hell of a story behind us.
>>
>>3563581
I don't think you're wrong with the calculations, I'm just saying we need to lower that rank lest we become some scary post-apoc alien monster thing and we don't want our client to run for the sandy hills when they see us.

Stats of your set correspond with 'scaly humanoid' requirements that Handler mentioned when he was asked about stats for 'dragon-girl disguise'. Which might be an even bigger problem that 'A Intimidation' of Warlord Set.
>treating the gauntlets
My hangup is that these Gauntlets were 'treated' as a 'Weapon', while the Helmet was 'experimented on' as 'Clothing Item'. Can't find exact wording where it says that it was 'treated'.

Plainness: D= +2+2+1 -1= +4=.......C+

It bothers me a bit that our chest is empty and that we can't take the new scarf with us, but unless Handler agrees that we could use it in our forehead or use it as a waist sash to bump otherworldy to C, this are the best-ish stats i could make.

MGFH FAQ:
>You can carry up to two main pieces of clothing (legs, body) and up to five accessories (hands, neck, back, and head).
Bad news, everyone - Shell Legs and Divine Shoes take same item-slot, so we'll have to chose one over the other.
>>
>>3563706
>five accessories (hands, neck, back, and head).
On the other hand, we can have two Items for one of these four slots.

Since this is a post-apoc Fallout-like world, we’re making Jago and Prima fill their bags with every scrap of weapon scrap from dead enemies, right? Plasma and frag grenades, rail rifles, and sub machine guns? Maybe something that a local could make into a mod for them?
>>
>>3563751
Since we’re the commander in charge of two robot soldiers, maybe. I wonder how Jago and Prima will change. Do you think they’ll look more robotic or more organic?
>>
>>3563762
Maybe more "scrappy". You know, they have some odd welds here and there, they obviously haven't had a decent dusting in months and for some reason they look spikier. Revisioned 'Warlord' set:

Enchanted Warlord Set
1-Head: Ferrah's Helmet - melee softening enchantment
2-Body: Power Millitant Armor - body protection, deflects small arms
3-Legs: *Mastercrafted* Divine Shoes - more mana for low magic world
4-Neck1: *Mastercrafted* Pleasant Necklace - empathetic enchantment
5-Neck2(RAW): Big'n'Proper Bowtie - lowers Intimidation
6-Hands: Red Sun Gauntlets - (Hothead +2/ Otherworldly +1) according to Loreanon
7-Back: Travelers Backpack - lowers Intimidation

Stats:
Intimidation B+
Humor D+
Otherworldly D-
Hothead B-
Plainness B-

Pros: enchantments 4life, reasonable Intimidation, somewhat high plainness
Cons: odd fashion sense (when was the last time that you've seen a fashionable wastelander? All these whack-ass raiders just wear mish-mashed gimpy suits anyway)

Alternatively, we can add a Scarf, Third Eye Brooch or Pleasant Necklace for 'Enforcer' set, though I think it's fine as it is.

>And junkrats fit into post-apoc setting.
But this would be a serious junkrat. Without the humor that he normally has, you just have a psychopath with way too many guns and that makes him scary. Like way too scary, specially with those stats you have.
Also keep in mind that the gloves and the helmet won't change shape because they have been treated to be non attuned, just like the flamebringer https://pastebin.com/8unLWUjF tenth line, also, given that we don't tend to receive melee damage, the helmet will be not that useful and the gauntlets as well(because we tend to heal ourselves after the fight). I'd recommend you to change them for something else. Either way if we need to fight, we can take them out of the bag and use them in-situ without any penalty.

Random Miranda fact:

Outwardly, she dislikes techno. Inwardly, she's she's just putting on a persona so she doesn't get caught dancing to it. Make her listen to some Daft Punk and she'd start moving before she realizes.

She hates this.

We might be treated as just another radier, but it gets offset by the fact that we come with two robo buddies.
Either way, we shouldn't measure the outfits in this way. The final stats output is more important than the individual bonuses the items give. For example, the Reptilian outfit will be a huge drawback because we're gonna look like an alien dragon in a post apocalyptic setting. Not only is very out of place and we will definitely be unable to hide, but given that most of its stats are high, it will create a similar situation that we had when we were training the MG team and we don't really want that.

But i guess for that it would require higher humour?
>>
>>3565182
He's probably referring to that Lorelei mission where we got the bots
>>
>>3565186
i think we might need to be a robot for that? or at least wear stuff that makes us look like a robot. we have nothing in our inventory that should help us on that other than the power armor set, and that will surely make us look like a super soldier.
>>
>>3565194
Oh true.

>>3565200
Yeah i guess you are right.
>>
Alright, writing in a bit. Today was taken up unexpectedly badly.
>>
So, 1500 daily regen. I propose that we use HQ Meditation Room to get social and manacost reduction bonuses for this mission and stick to Baron's Rapier since in amplifies all our magic techniques. Oh, and let's not forget about our mana condenser this time. It took Miranda about a month in-character (almost three months/seven threads from anons' perspective) to finally pull it out of her bag on the last mission.
>>
Oh, shit, I forgot to say-

I read everyone's stuff about the 5 slots/four sections thing, and that's a typo. It's supposed to be essentially one item per area. So no, you're not supposed to have two neck slots.

That said, I'll also concede a separation of feet and legs would make more sense, which would make things five regardless, so I'll let it slide for now.

Writing for the

-Clear Sunglasses
-Power Militant Armor
-Big n' Proper Bowtie
-Fateweaver’s Scarf
-Prim Gloves
-Ribbon Wings
-*Mastercrafted* Divine Shoes

For the following stats:

Intimidation C
Humor D+
Otherworldly C
Hothead C
Plainness B-
>>
>>3565293
>>3565320
Honestly though, maybe we can rework mana condenser so that they passively increase daily regen (20-50%) depending on their efficiency/quality, instead of bothering you with write-ins?
>>
...Not five, but you know what I mean. I can't count, clearly, which explains the error in the first place.

>>
>>3564984
Also, she's not a big fan of it. She doesn't hate it, but she'll pass if she has a choice.
>>
>>3565360
Last time we had high plainness was in the mafia world if I recall correctly. And we were initially mistaken for some innocent kid when we showed up.
>>
>>3565368
Let me check that. Because i remember that we wanted to look exactly like that so that our targets wouldn't see us as a potential threat.
>>
>>3565400
Well, we also had high otherworldly, so they saw us as a kid but the longer we talked with them, the more creeped out they got.

>Current Motes: 42.70 Lotes

After thinking on it a bit, you’re going into a post-apoc with high tech, right? Hm. you decide on buying the Clear Sunglasses primarily...and after some thought to yourself, the large bow, to which Prima tilts her head at you a bit. “I was informed that the purposes as to alternate wardrobes were for...emotional manipulation?”

“Something like that,” you confirm. “The Intersection is weird, is the long and short of it. Far as I can tell, each universe kinda has its own rules on what’s ‘workable’ and what isn’t, to an large extent. Whenever we get sent off, anything that just doesn’t belong generally gets modified to look like it would, provided it doesn’t get treated or isn’t common enough to keep together by sheer common universal rules. Clothes are the easiest way to see it. For a robot like you, I expect you’re gonna be changed up a bit, too, actually.”

“Oh! That sounds...concerning…” she actually shivers a bit, and you swear she might be rethinking things.

“I wouldn’t worry,” you reassure her. “Nothing with a soul actually gets changed in terms of mentality or anything like that. Not to mention I’m like, 95% sure all your abilities will still work. You’ll just look different, but you’ll still be you. I’ll look different, too, so you won’t be alone.”

“Sounds nutter,” Jago mutters. “But if’n yer sure of it, then…well, I ain’t exactly got any spare cred fer a new look.”

“Ah...yes, of course. Neither do I,” Prima says timidly. “I hope that will not be a detriment…”

“Shouldn’t be,” you figure. “It’s why we chose this kinda job specifically. Now hold on a minute while I get changed.”

>Hothead: D-

>Jago’s Base Stats:

“Alright, that should do me,” you decide. The bowtie and the scarf sit awkwardly with each other, but you’d had an idea, and hopefully it’ll pan out...the rest looks like a mishmash that you’re fairly certain will coalesce once you’re on-site, given the parameters. Minutes later, you’re at the HQ, with the two bots looking rather nervous, given their rapid looks to each other and constant head swiveling.

Hm...probably best to calm them down before they go. “Hey, you two. Stop freaking out, you’ll shake something loose.”

“We ain’t freakin’ out over nothin’!” Jago half-yells. “Just...uh...considerin’ things is all!”

“There are a lot of variables to concern ourselves with,” Prima admits.

Oy. This wouldn’t start off well. Fortunately, you’ve got a quick idea. “Alright, alright. Follow me. We need to calm you down and this might actually help me, too…”

You hadn’t used the meditation room in a while, but considering how things sounded, it’s probably a good idea to focus yourself for a bit before setting off...hopefully the two bots can get something out of it, as well…

After you explained the purpose of the room, they called it ‘processing’, but whatever. You settle down, and focus yourself…

You’re pretty sure it’s over an hour later when you lift yourself from it, and Prima and Jago arise as well. You feel a lot more confident, now, and you think it’s reflected in their own attitudes as well, judging by how they both look at you and give a singular nod each.

As the light fades, you’re almost tempted to blink. Although soon enough you realize you don’t much have to- your sunglasses are clear, but they seem to be doing an excellent job of filtering the large floodlights on the large, metallic circle you’re on, nonetheless. You immediately recognize it as a warehouse; it’s too large and spacious to not be. A quick look around the grey and white expanse finds a outcropping a few levels above where you are; an observation area, judging by both the windows and the indistinct figures standing behind it. Aside from that, and your partners, there’s no one in the room with you. At least, for now- you can see a couple of the figures immediately move away from the window. Your guess is that’ll be your welcoming committee.

A quick check of your person reveals that your chest armor is...surprisingly well in shape. Slimmed down, for certain, and clearly lost some detail, plus a few scratches. But it retains its shape well enough- although it’s a much softer grey/green color, and slightly rusted. You can feel your scarf covering your mouth well enough, and you can see a few ‘tatters’ on it as well as you investigate your surroundings. Your shorts are longer and more like full jeans, and your shoes are also worn looking, as opposed to the brilliantly white pieces of art they started out as, though you see a thin line of light running around them near the bottom. There’s something hanging off your chest as well; some kind of neckerchief? Wait, no, that’s more of a cravat…

“It appears we’re being treated with caution,” Prima squeaks out next to you. You quickly look to her to see how she’s changed- interestingly enough, it seems like she’s been largely left alone, although her joints are exposed in several areas, her body in general is far more angular, and her robotic ‘dress’ has been adjusted slightly; it’s still similar to what it was, but seems more angular as well, as opposed to the curves around the edges that it had before. Her head is more of a highly-sided polyhedron than the smooth circle it was, and her eyes are simplified to squares- though they still have irises, it seems.

>>
>>3565615
"It's pretty common," you tell her. "Most anyone with good sense is gonna be at least a little worried about what might show up from calling one of us up. Usually unfounded, but it's not like they'd know that."

“Eh, wusses. Shoulda jus’ been ‘ere from word go,” Jago complains. He, too, is more angular and less rounded, with his legs and arms being made up of nearly triangles before his inner structure is exposed at the joints, and his body and head more obviously polygonal. His hook is just as it was, however, and his eyes are diamond shaped. He doesn’t seem to have any difficulty moving, however, as he gestures around. “Alla this space; ya’d think we’d have at least a few folks eyeballin’ us from ground level, yeah?”

“Oho, well, forgive us for that, would you? a reedy voice comes from the west end of the building, seems there's a door that leads to the 'office', if that's what that was. “We weren’t sure WHAT would be happening, really; after all, the systems and, ah...procedures used to request your presence were...rather untested, to say the least.” The man approaching you sounds like a rat. It’s not even an insult at this point, he just has a voice that you associate with rattish people. The kind of high, nasally, yet, smug voice that comes out of people with overly high opinions of themselves. He’s got prescription glasses on, his auburn hair slicked back and his smile entirely fake as he stands in front of you in his oversized lab coat. “Although it worked, I have to say I’m surprised at the, results. I must admit, I was expecting something a bit more...bombastic. Ah, but where are my manners!” He affects a small, clearly insincere bow. “I am William Tate, Chief Technology Officer for Aegis Incorporated. And you are?”

You shake your head. No reason to get riled up over this guy. “Lane. Just Lane. These are Swan-” You motion over to your left... “-and Falcon.” ...and then your right.

“Greetings!” Prima says, with a bow.

“Oy,” Jago barks simply. Neither of them mention the pseudonyms, at least.

"And if I don't look all that special, isn't that a good thing?" You add on. "Means I'll be a surprise."

He hardly spares them a glance, before turning back to you with a sardonic grin. “Well, if nothing else, I suppose the fact that you’ve managed to keep your AICAs in functioning order is commendable. Saves us time and money both.” With little more fanfare, he turns around, beckoning you. “Come, follow me. Time is indeed of the essence.” He directs you back to follow him through the doors he came out of. “We’ll give you more details on the situation, get you used to our Zeon line of Variable Walkers, and set you out.”

At that, Jago starts after him. “Oy! You best cut that out, ya drongo! Already I’m gettin’ sick o’ ya!”

“Falcon, cease!” Prima says quickly as you both follow as well. At least they got the name change quickly enough…

“It’s fortunate that we won’t be in much contact, then,” Tate says casually, as though he didn’t care at all...although the quick glance back and frown on his face says otherwise- as does the slightly hastened pace up the stairs beyond the door. “I was only here to oversee the...process. You’ll be reporting to Chief Research Officer Crane for further information.”

At the top, you’re greeted by a large, casual office like area. A rounded table sits in the middle, two other men and a lady sitting at it. The two men are raven and blonde haired, respectively- the darker-haired one looking older and more grizzled, and a few cuts on his lower mouth indicate that he’s been in a fight or two, which is further given example by how he seems to wear some sort of chest armor above his otherwise normal suit. The blonde is long-haired and rather typically pretty, objectively; he has a small pair of glasses resting on his face, his green eyes focusing on you in that analyzing way even as he smiles. The lone lady is a redhead, dressed in a salmon colored pencil skirt and dress blouse, who simply nods at the entrance, frowning. There are a pair of computers on one end, a portrait of a barrel-chested, well-dressed buzzcut man on one wall. No books, to your surprise. Mostly knick-knacks on the other end, even a couple of figurines- some seem to be cast models of certain types of mechs. Wonder if one of them will be yours…

He points to each one in turn. “Meet our Field Acquisitions Captain Mason Kine, Chief Research Officer Daniel Crane, and Chief Operations Officer Elanore Black. Lady and Gentlemen, this is our latest asset, Lane, and her AICAs.”

(cont.)
>>
>>3565926

“A pleasure,” Ms. Black says. “Thank you for your efforts in bringing this to bear, Mr. Tate. You’ll be receiving a substantial bonus if this pans out. You’re dismissed.”

“Of course, ma’am.” He bows, and quickly heads off, leaving you with just the three.

Once the door closes, you find that they’re unflinchingly looking at you, and for a moment, you’re locked in a staring contest with the lot of them. After a few seconds, it’s Crane who breaks it. “Well, then! I have to admit, I had my reservations, but it seemed to have worked. Now, first, the basics. You’re aware of the situation on the ground, correct? The whole ‘corporations fighting corporations and other parties for what little scraps of the world are left’ kinda thing?"

You nod. "Something like that."

"Well, we’ve heard that a particular power source might exist, something that might actually allow the world to have a chance at recovery- and quiiiite a lot of clout for anyone who finds it. Something the aliens brought with them, and couldn’t keep a hold on. We want you to find it, and get it for us. Simple enough for a…” he pauses briefly, looking you over. “...You’re a scrapper, right? Should be right up your alley. You’ll be provided with our latest Variable Walker- codenamed Zeon, fresh off the line. We want you to use it, get some field testing done in it, and use it to bring that artifact back to us. >> “Yes, actually…” (What?)
What is the artifact, for one, and what does it do. Is it large, heavy, awkward to carry? Is it radioactive, explosive, or otherwise a danger to me or my crew? Do other people know of this artifact's existence? And who might be coming for me if someone learns about it and your interest in retrieving it?

Also, tell me about possible complications and foes we might have to deal with.
>>
>>3565935
>> “Yes, actually…” (What?)
Who currently has ahold of it? What sort of opposition are we looking at from them? Who else knows about it, who's likely to be going after it, and what sort of opposition might they level? What does the artifact look like, and is it dangerous to work with in some way?

I suspect they'd have told us about most of this anyway, but it's better to be sure.

>>3565953
That will expose our lack of understanding,
>>3565946

>>
>>3565935
The aliens brougth this thing with then and couldn't keep it? I take you wouldn't know if they have a perimeter securing it? Should i just kill anyone that gets in the way?
>>
>>3565935
Oh yeah also do you want just the power source or whatever you asked about? These aliens seem to be causing some trouble and i think that if they brought it here the place probably has more of their tech? Wouldn't it be in a more military and scientific way be better to get anything that could be study or that you wish to study from then?
>>
>>3565962
>as will the Seither and alien questions.

They did see us jump out of a portal after using an untested method of hiring a freelancer, so they'll probably understand if we ask. Besides, it's not as if we couldn't ask questions about the world in previous missions, especially since they didn't take the Integrated Backstory option.
>>
>>3565976
>They did see us jump out of a portal
They didn't. Mr. Tater is the only one that might know something is going on and even then, sal always tells the natives that we are from this world. Its for the best that we keep the facade going.
>>
>>3565989
>an observation area, judging by both the windows and the indistinct figures standing behind it.
>you can see a couple of the figures immediately move away from the window.

Pretty sure more people than just him saw it.

>sal always tells the natives that we are from this world.

That's your assumption, and knowing Sal's penchant of not telling us too much about the worlds we go to previously, it fits his character that it's something he doesn't really do that often. (the world dossiers Handler started making for our later jobs aren't in character).
>>
There doesn't really seem to be a consensus, but I think I can fit most of those.

Writing.
>>
>>3565962
But it would also let us show them THEIR lack of understanding, and shut their smug faces up.
>>
>>3565989
Yeah, nah, they're a bunch of science nerds.

What we can do is wait for them to go "Could you be from (insert legendary place here)" and then we just be enigmatic about it.
>>
>>3566015
>Pretty sure more people than just him saw it.
Fair point, but the clients usually believe that we come form a far away place, but still from this world.

>That's your assumption
Honestly, i don't remember in what thread handler told us so, but Sal never tells the client that we come from another universe, let alone from between the universes.
>>
>>3566023
I guess this is one of the disavantages of focusing in plainness.

So far Plainness seem to be the worst stats for a job. Although i guess monster looking people like Harp and the sheep girl could take advantage to it and look more approachable.
>>
>>3566025
See, that's the line of disagreement I've got with it. I've no doubt that Sal never tells anyone we're from another universe. The thing is, I'm pretty sure he doesn't say we're from the client's universe. He's basically saying "Yeaaaaaah, I've got the perfect guy for youuuuu..." and then fading out in front of the clients with only a Cheshire cat smile left behind. No mention where we're from, or what we'll look like, the money's good, so why should he tell them the details.
>>
>>3566039
He usually disguises as someone from the universe the client is in and makes a fairly decent scouting work... Maybe is one of the rules of the intersection? I honestly don't remember the why, i just remember that we can't ask such questions to the client.

Boss, could you refresh our memories on the matter?
>>
Well at least now we can grab whatever scrap we find and hopefully sell it in the intersection. We have that place that allow us to do so now.
>>
>>3566036
Nah, plainness is good for stealth jobs, assassination or if the client wants discreetness/narrative choice.
It's just that we tend to pick jobs where intimidation is a better stat and plainness accentuates our "smol girl uwu" appearance. I guess if Miranda is more physically adult looking maybe we won't have such troubles on a high plainness stat.
>>
>>3566039
Isn’t keeping the fact we’re not local only matter if there’s a narrative rider, and so long as we don’t say what inter-universal faction we work for? Like we can say we’re from a different universe but not that we’re from a multiversal hub.

Well, many, but only a few that you could get away with asking. “A couple. What’s this so-called power source supposed to be, anyway? Is it big, dangerous, got a lotta people after it- all that stuff, y’know?”

They seem a bit unhappy with your blase way of speaking, judging by their facial expressions, but instead of saying anything about it, Crane simply nods to Mr. Kine, who grunts. “We don’t know much about it, actually. S’pose to be big, according to the data we’ve gotten- something large enough to emit a wide range, safe, and consistent Seither field. Enough to jumpstart regrowth in barren areas, and serve as a power generator for more than a city at the same time. We’re not sure how heavy it is, but it’s partially why we requested someone with high Seither capacity. If this is true, then while Zeon will be able to mitigate much of it, your own capacity will assist with keeping you from suffering Seither overflow in case there’s any surprises.”

“As for others that may be in the know, none have exactly the information we do, for now,” Ms. Black continues. “Although we have seen Orion, Lionheart, and Peacock mercenaries sniffing around certain areas, and that makes us suspicious.” She frowns, her posture tensing minutely. “Considering what your handler told us about you, I’m sure you know at least a bit about those rabble-rousers. They’re too nosy for their own good.”

What DID Sal tell them? Hm. Maybe you should ask… “Any alien presence looking for it, you think?”

She snorts. “Oh, undoubtedly. But fortunately, they don’t have the manpower to survive lengthy excursions out. I don’t know how much you know about the aliens, but Seither in large doses utterly ruins them. They get volatile and go bananas. They don’t want that, and there’s too many high Seither pockets for them to be safe, especially here.”

(cont.)
>>
>>3566194
Kine barks out a laugh. “Really, it’s funny. They were the ones that introduced Seither to the planet. Caused it to start producing thanks to the atmosphere, making it a whole weather phenomenon...I think they were tryin’ to coat the planet and do it careful-like. Just so happened that Mother Earth didn’t like ‘em, just like us. So now we can use it better than they ever could.”

“We still seek more clues as to the device’s whereabouts, mind,” Crane adds on. “So you won’t be able to just pop over to wherever it is and get it. But we have some ideas of where we can search, and maybe get more clues. That’s another reason we’re hiring you- so no one else realizes you’re with us until they’re already behind.”

“Now, we’ve got a lot to do and little time to begin if we want to keep this headstart. If you have any more questions, you can ask them on the way to the base. If you’ll follow Mr. Kine…” The man in question nods, and gets up, and you follow him as the other two follow you out. You eventually walk to a large shutter door at the end of the warehouse, and with a small ‘beep’, it splits open, to reveal a vast, barren, windswept land. You can see in the distance to your left several large buildings, most cracked, toppled, torn in half. A pair of dusty, nearly destroyed roads run perpendicular in front of you, on one side going into the distance, the other towards the city remnants. In the distance, right ahead of you, you can see a couple of buildings just on the horizon, a small blob that breaks up the cracked, deserted land without even a road to lead to it. Mr. Tate is sitting next to a large, armored vehicle, surrounding which are a number of armed personnel- and two large mechs. They’re both painted a sterling white and yellow, each roughly 10 meters tall, you think? They’re angular in design, both of them reminding you of perhaps birds. Or maybe knights in unusual armor?...

In their hands are exceptionally large weapons, one carrying a immense rifle in one hand and a shield in the other, while the other has what you can only describe as an oversized sniper rifle. On their backs are what you’re pretty sure are pod launchers. Heavy security, but you suppose it makes sense.

Crane extends his hands with all the spectacle of “Ms. Lane, Swan, Falcon...welcome to Area 003. Also known as Outer Aegis.”

Ms. Black nods. “Next stop, Headquarters, and the Main Bay. Any further questions can be answered on the ride back. Time to get you and your AICAs in a mech.”

Done for today. Not nearly as long a run as I wanted, but...cie la vie.

>>3566051
Generally protocol is along the lines of 'Depends on how Sal introduced you. If they figure it out or it's a world where it's not unlikely, whatever, but don't tell them anything they're unsure of'.
>>
>>3566198
>“To the Main Bay, then.”

OOOH, we're in an armored core universe! neat.

We should get the rundown on the mechs themselves once we get to the ones they're lending us.
>>
>>3566198
> “To the Main Bay, then.” (Skip)

i have no questions honestly. Besudes if this thing more a gundam or more like a tank-walker (Mutiple people inside one mech)

>gives a lot of energy
>the aliens are strangely weak to it
>Sal said we would be 9kay handling it

Seither is raw mana isn't it? Like the power source that powered those outgoers flying ship...

> “To the Main Bay, then.” (Skip)
If the armory is in the main bay, let's pick up a sidearm. That way mercs and aliens will focus on that and any melee weapons we've got on us, and will be flatfooted when we start launching MagiBlasts at them.

>>3566203
Night, boss. Hope to see you soon!

Thanks for running.

So, guys, how are we going to lie when we are asked to activate the mecha and test it out? Do we let prima and jago do all the job?
>>
>>3566255
I assume that Miranda already had some experience with various mechas. She's also a closet sci-fi nerd.
>>
>>3566255
I believe the future sight can give us the basics. Also Prima could probably scan the mech and give us the tips. Lucky Miranda is a veteran outgoer and she has already piloted mechs before. Hopefully the commands and buttons are the same in this universe.
>>
>>3566198
>>Any further questions?

Contact Sal and ask just what he told them about us.

Spanks for running.
>>
>>3566273
Fair enough i guess. We could also say that we aren't used to something as new as this machine, or that whatever machine we use tends to be personalized by us.
>>
>>3566273
90 years as a outgoer will give you plenty experience with gear and vehicles.
>>
>>3566255
Right, bots are also helping with piloting mechs>>3566279 - that's why threy were required for this job after all.

Like what >>3566207 said, use the future sight to learn universe lore and such. Make sure the robots see the details as well.

>>3566227
> "We’re not sure how heavy it is, but it’s partially why we requested someone with high Seither capacity."
Yeah it's mana alright and the fact that the ayyys can't handle it makes me excited to meet them so we can blast them to bits
>If this is true, then while Zeon will be able to mitigate much of it, your own capacity will assist with keeping you from suffering Seither overflow in case there’s any surprises.
So people that can use mana here have low mana capacity and apparently can't contain the mana in their bodies? Eh let's just check on the futuresight.
>>
>>3566345
Man, what would ayyys think about a mana construct like Gartoum?
>>
>>3566293
The job preview mentioned AI Control Assistant so I believe that's what AICA means. They're probably used to make controlling the mechas easier.

I half expect that the mechs are actually powered by mana. If that's the case i wonder if we can sincronize Miranda's mana with the mechs.

That would be pretty dope
>>
>>3566954
or we could use the mecha's mana reserves as our own
OR! we could use the mecha as a channel for out attacks!
Just imagine a mecha powered nebula buster!

“To the Main Bay, then.” At Ms. Black’s nod, they open up the back of the vehicle and you all step in, then quickly take off once inside and buckled.

You don’t have much to say to them at the moment; it sounded like online and general electronic infrastructure was still somewhat available. You might be able to connect to a database to figure out more without having to guess at anything…

To your vague surprise, the FutureSight seems to have remained largely as-is in this world, barring a slight color change and a bit more thickness on the sides. What’s more, no one present seems to glance twice at it as you begin to run a search on a few things…

Alright, so, there’s a few things you can find quickly enough. Looking up the names Orion, Lionheart, and Peacock reveal that they’re all mercenary outfits, as Ms. Black implied. Orion is a essentially a private military branch off of a larger conglomeration- NewStar, that has the largest stable territory, with Aegis in second place. Lionheart and Peacock are pure mercenary outfits, working for the highest bidder- although Lionheart seems to have an angle towards planetary revitalization- and are archrivals, from what you can guess. A lot of the work that the mercenaries do, apparently, is eliminating the alien presence- a lot of them are far more powerful than typical humans, hence the need for Variable Walkers and the need for pilots for them.

Seither is...something that apparently is still a bit of an unknown. There’s still a lot of science going on about it, but it allegedly gives people that can absorb and process trace amounts ‘superhuman strength, speed, and stamina, and occasionally other effects’. It can (and is) used as a power source, much like electricity, and can show up in crystal and gaseous form. However, the amount humans can withstand being introduced to their bodily system is limited, although varied depending on the person. Too much leads to something called Seither Overflow, the symptoms of which are apparently ‘reddened eyes, visibly red vein bulges, headaches, elevated heart rate, muscle tearing, and death’. Sounds a lot like mana, really…

The aliens are apparently incredibly hostile to humanity, but by all accounts seem to have brought the majority of their species with them to the planet- no one’s entirely certain, but it seems they might’ve invaded out of desperation. Regardless, humanity struck back, and eventually brought them to the brink of extinction due to shooting down most of their colony ships. Although sparse, the ETs are kill on sight, but also incredibly dangerous due to their mech and biotechnology.

>Anything else before we get to the HQ? Be specific.

Let's get a list of other possible targets of opportunity they might want us to achieve and what they would be willing to pay for it.

After all, why steal just one thing if we're going all the way there? Knowing what's valuable will help us a lot if opportunities arise.

>>
>>3572374
Basically this, plus asking them for some survival gear and weapons.
>>
>>3572857
maybe we should look up more about what these Scrappers are.
>>
>>3573269
Seems like scrappers are a combination of scavengers and jury-riggers, but you are right. At the very least it should give us a clear idea of how disposable Aegis thinks we are.
>>
>>3572374
>>3572378
>>3572398
>>3572401
A quick check reveals that the modern currency is just called ‘units’, and is represented by a small, oblong, often blue chip with the denomination printed on it and a variable number of ridges depending. The more it’s worth, the more ridges.

Thinking about it, they called you a ‘Scrapper’, didn’t they? You’ve got an idea of what they might be, but just in case…

Your bots continue looking over your shoulders as you pull up the information- ‘Scrappers’ (called ‘Scratchers’ in some areas) are apparently slang for people that live outside of the few ‘safe’ cities that remain- reason being that they have a tendency to build their own tools from scavenged, stolen and raided technology and parts. They often band together into tribes, usually formed around their preferred type of technology- some examples given are a Scrapper tribe that prefers wheeled road vehicles, another that’s big on heavy explosive weaponry, even one that likes radios and other communicative electronics. Scrapper tribes are often considered nusicances or threats, depending on the size of one and the weaponry they can bring to bear. Very few Scrapper tribes can claim to have more than one or two the most basic of Variable Walkers, and even then, they are often retrofitted with makeshift gear, and due to the lack of infrastructure they can’t be repaired properly, so they seldom last long- unless they make a deal with a conglomerate or business. They are often nomadic, and no two Scrapper tribes are exactly alike. Regardless, they definitely aren’t generally considered upstanding citizens.

No wonder Tate was so…’complimentary’. “You set me up with a cover, Sal? Why didn’t you tell me?”

“They were...reluctant to take anyone quite literally out of the bluuuuue. I had to convince them you were something of a local- iiiiiiif a very unusual and secluded one.” Is the response. “Dooooon’t worry, I trust you can keep up such a basic act. I didn’t give them much harrrrrrrd information. Your quieter nature, your sunny personality, and your dedicaaaaation to finishing the job.” You snort a bit. Well, that explains that.

“Something funny?” Crane asks. He’s trying so hard to put up this friendly air, it makes you suspicious.

You shake your head. “Just wondering if there’s anything else you might want me to, ah...acquire in the meantime.”

“We’ll talk more about that once we arrive at HQ,” Black interjects. “But for now, let’s say...we’ve got one or two things we have our eyes on.”
