Everything aches.

This isn’t a new sensation - you train under Klaus and sometimes Smoboss, after all - but you usually wake up in a bed, indoors, and this is neither.

There are spiky things jabbing into your back, arms, legs, your body bent at a splayed and highly uncomfortable angle. The air is cool around you, especially on your face, which feels... overly cold. Wet, in fact.

You crack your eyes open and squint upwards.

The world is bright and full of pain.

You curl your fingers, one by one. Then your toes. Test your ankles, wrists, knees, elbows. Dull pain, but nothing that suggests anything broken - the faint stabbing in your chest as you breathe says there’s something wrong with your ribs, but you’re not choking up blood, so it’s probably not a big deal. Maybe.

You widen your eyes properly, hating all of existence. Trees. A lot of ‘em. Must have sneaked up on you while you were unconscious, the assholes.

“Cheatin’ pricks,” you slur at them. A bird chirps somewhere nearby, clearly intimidated by your obvious might and prowess, before a shadow falls across you, day to night in an instant, and a giant head makes its appearance, peering down at you with eyes bigger than you are.

... Snek.

............ “Baby,” you coo up at your adorable child, raising a hand to wave vaguely at it. “Have you been good?”

“Ssssshhhaaaaaaaaaaaaaa,” it answers, wriggling slightly, which is probably yes. That’s how you’re going to translate it, anyway. You let your hand fall back down to touch your wet face EW WHAT THE FUCK.

Trying to ignore the pain in your ribs, you push yourself up - ah, yes, you’re in/on a bush, right - hand hovering between wiping the slime off and not touching the damn stuff, disgusting - and your other hand brushed against something hard and distinctly non-bush-like next to you.

Mr Speedy glares up at you from a leaf next to the toppled skate, slime trails making his path obvious, and you reach up again to where he must have covered your face in enough ooze to let him shove the seastone off your face without too much friction.

On the other hand, your face is now covered in snail slime.

That sorted(although you’re still covered in slime, lovely), you prod gingerly at your chest. A huge, horrible bruise - not attractive even with your tattoo - but no blood or rib sticking out, so that’s good. How long were you out?

It’s a long walk. Your ribs are stabbing a little less, so that’s nice, though you’re still achey. Ghere’s a distinct lack of wildlife, probably because there’s a giant snake trundling after you, knocking over trees as it goes. Yeeeeah, that might scare things away.

Oh, well!

Perhaps thirty minutes later, you come across trees that’ve been knocked over by something else, and shortly after... Well.

In the small gaps of the canopy, it was already visible, but coming across it properly, you see what happened to giant stalk.

Apparently at least some of it fell.

Wasn’t it on fire? Did someone put it out? Why isn’t the entire damn forest on fire?

Stepping out into the toppled trees, you stare up at the stalk. You can’t see down its whole length in either direction - and damn, but it’s thick, even on its side like this, buried into a deep furrow in the ground - it must have caused a huge quake when it fell, though you were probably too unconscious to notice. It doesn’t look burned, and it’s not as thick as nearer the bottom... this must be one of the top pieces. Above the second layer?

Screw it. You take a couple of pictures, because it’s kind of impressive, and wander along the side of it. You doubt the Strawhats will be this way, but it’d be a pain to climb over, so it’ll be easier to work your way around. Not like you’re lacking for time.

Another ten of fifteen minutes of fallen trees and shattered clouds later (as well as one of the bodies of those impaled guys, now in even worse shape - ick), and you find... a bell.

A golden bell, set into a giant friggin’ wedge of gold, propped up between two pillars. Looks like it was partly buried in the stalk as the whole thing fell, or you doubt it would have survived the trip to the ground. There’s a giant stone slab as well, with some weird writing on - probably that Shandian writing from before, though it looks kind of different to your inexpert eyes.

A bell. Made of gold. What a waste.

It's... tricky.

You try to turn one finger to lightning - and a different finger shoots sparks instead, electricity jumping eagerly towards anything conductive. You stop that immediately, and try the arm transformation from earlier; that still works okay, but again, you can't control all the bolts jumping off it.

It's like your whole body starts buzzing when you change even a small part of it, which doesn't help. After a few minutes, you do manage to to figure out how to shoot a couple of short-range sparks without them careening off towards a different target, but it's nothing spectacular.

You pause training, letting the sparks fade away, at the sounds of approaching footsteps - one of them distinctly non-human. Doctor Cutie's, in fact.
