In a world plunged into frozen chaos, you, Gaeleath Yesthyra, will find a cure for the Frostblight no matter what it takes. After being exiled from your elven home, you took shelter in an abandoned spire on a lonely isle amidst a frozen sea only to be saved from certain death by a putrid darkling who revered you as her master. After a close encounter with two relatively dangerous scavengers, you have agreed to scavenge something of worth for them and their 'Birthhome' to retain your right to scavenge the spire... you only have five days.

"Magnificence! Our arrival occur in the fifth of days. Mightiest luck to self of yours. A depart gift; goodwill of Neosm. Gujim, press for fleeting warming." Comn have dropped three small orbs next to your feet. Much like their suits, they were in constant stand of expanding and contracting.

>You have Gujim orbs (3)

Just like that, The two Neosm and their construct have left the spire. You heard a whirring sound moments later followed by a giant splash.

[Tremendous Success!]

And so you waited for hours to no end. The temptation to squeeze one of those orbs was maddening to say the least. Yes, it was very cold down here but wasting precious resources like that is disheartening.

As you were falling asleep, Something slimy. has caressed your cheeks. Frightened. you bolted out of you new chair only to bump into Juno's uneven forehead.

"Kh'althar!" You called her an imbecile before slapping her murky face; your heart almost exploded from this nasty surprise. The darkling backed away in fear, hiding her disfigured face from your eyes with one hand, the other held a rather bloated waterskin "M-master...Clearjuice gullet. V-very deep."

>You current water supplies is enough for 5 days

You spent the last hour of the night watching your slave bringing back all the furniture to the upper level. Juno didn't dare to look at you directly this whole time. Why is she shriveling like that?

"All done, M-master. Work more?" asked the darkling, obviously exhausted from the trek. Her fungus-infested eye sockets were slightly swollen up.

Tornus, 3rd of Uolk (Summer) (-12 Ar)

Juno has woken you up with her crooked finger instead of her unusually long tongue. Like an eager child, she has led you outside for 'big gapy'.

Well, She wasn't making it up ; just a up ahead lies a bare patch of the sea without the thick icesheet obscuring it. The working of your unusual guests? Most likely, you did hear a splash yesterday. That could explain it. The exposed sea water wasn't as deep as you thought, there were some shallow areas closer to the isle itself. Understandable of course but what really tickled your fantasy was a sunken vessel right between shallow and deep water...at least you think it is a vessel, you see a shimmering silhouette down below. It could be a slumbering creature or a giant boulder but you have your doubts. Worth investigating....

Something else to note was the lack of any signs of marine life, at least not shallow waters, The sapphire water hides a myriad of lives under still waves. It will take a while before the frostblight would cover this beautiful patch...you hope.

4/?

Juno was extremely excited with her new toy. Her wild swings would put orc to shame.

So guys idea we clear the way upstairs(with juno's help) and use the rubble to mostly block the front door and leave a opening to come in and out of, there's probably a lot of stuff up there and it seems easier than breaking down that chained door for now also we can use the rug as a cover if we can figure out how to keep it in place. i have a feeling we'll find something for those little buggers up there and thinking on it we should have our weapons nearby too
>>
>>3705709
That's a big gamble, considering it'll take us at least a couple of days to clear the rubble and if there's nothing there then we might be boned.

I've got a variant on that idea:
>>3705700

>1ry: [Construction] Break down your furniture, create a crude ladder out of it.
Sorry furniture. But we can use this ladder to replace the rope up to the trapdoor and then.....
>2ry: [Tinkering?] Fashion a grappling hook out of the rope and some scrap

>3ry: Use this grappling hook to bypass the rubble by going via the outside of the spire and a window. If that's not possible, use it to explore downstairs some more.
>Juno: Clear rubble some more with Crowbar II.

[Slight success]

Welp, It had to be done. Juno used the handy axe to chop up the furniture with your guidance of course; little bits of woods won't do you any good. You spend a couple of hours in making a serviceable ladder, took you so long due to your general lack of tools. Hammering the wooden parts together with nothing but the side of the axe (Juno did it but still) was a hassle by itself. it did make a lot of creaking sound during your initial tests. Thankfully, it didn't fall apart, nonetheless, you should be careeful using this makeshift ladder

>You have a crude ladder
>Your construction skill is increasing...

You took a break outside, your eyes are all over the spire. The exterior is cold, blunt and black without a single window. What exactly was the purpose of this spire? You know nothing except that insignia in the main entrance. A snake and a sword...hmmm...

You sent Juno with the crowbar to deal with the infamous rubble while you were trying to tinker a useful tool...A grappling hook. The trick is to find pieces of scrap with a nice curve to it. Swinging away is supposed to be somewhat natural to you....Lots of trees and vines in your home. Too bad, you chose to study books and hoard trinkets instead. You will get the hang of it, eventually.

this will consume both the rope and 3 small iron scraps.

[Critical Failure!]

After successfully making the grappling hook, you decided to try it down below. You stellar aim has gone for one of the giant floating fireflies which was panicking and screeching from pain while bleeding a gold liquid from its thorax.

Its erratic movement was pulling you downwards to your certain death. You would have let the damn thing go if it weren't for this unexpected knot around your wrist, how could you forget about such a thing?!

"JUNO! JUNO!!!" You had nothing to cling to as the firefly was going deeper and deeper into the unexplored abyss. Your slave quickly assessed the situation holding you tightly in your place.

"ARRGGHHH!" Juno did the right thing and cut off the rope with her sharp teeth. Your doomed tool has disappeared soon after.

"MASTER! MASTER! DONT LEAVE, NOT!" Her tears were all over your face. Once again, she saved our life. About your hand...

1= It was slightly discolored but nothing too serious. The pain will go away in after a day's sleep
2= It had different shades of blue and red, bruises and a lot of pain. You shouldn't work on anything with it for at least two days.
3= It was pale as death. The noose around your wrist has dislocated your wrist joints. The pain is immeasurable! Make it stop!
>>
>>3705964
>>3705995
>>3706004

You shouldn't work on anything (at least with your bad hand) for the rest of the day. Otherwise, your efficiency will be subpar (varies according to the task).

It seems the dice gods have a hate boner for anything regarding tools.

What is the criterion for a success/fail? If it's what I think it is, everything being a 50/50 chance with a 14% chance of crit fail will be a very frustrating world.
>>
both 1 or 20 (and its equivalents) overrides any other roll with critical success/failure if anyone isn't aware of this.
more than 50%=success
less than 50%=failure
>>
>>3706136
no idea where this 14% came from.
Using the previous prompt as an example, the chance of getting a crit fail is 1/60 (1/20x3). Same goes with critical success.
>>
>>3706171
He's right on the math in that there's a 14% chance of a crit fail (or a crit success) occuring on any given set of 3d20. The math on it, if you're curious, is that the chance of not rolling a 1 or 20 is 19/20, and the chance of rolling a crit is then 1 minus that (1 - .95^3 = .1426, or 14%~). I've played enough DnD to have crunched these numbers a bunch, and they can be a bit unintuitive if you haven't.

Anyway, with our minor hand injury, I say we continue reading that book from before, the Intricacies of Khzifltas. We might read something that'd help us know what to look for, and at worst we'd take a breather and get some lore.
>>
>>3706303
huh, guess i was in the wrong. Should i keep it as it is (giving also a better chance for a critical success) or should i change it so that if the FIRST roll is deciding factor, not any of the three?
>>
>>3706337
If you want to change things, that's up to you. I'm fine with the current system, but then again I like it when things are a bit swingy. From my experience the dice can get wild and lead to some memorable moments (Dark Lord Civ is a good example of this, although I think that quest's rng is broken).
>>
>>3706303
we are stopping for now but if other anons would also go with this option then give me a d100, best out of three.
>>3706365
yeah, i guess i will go with the first roll from now on in case of crits. If the two extremities are too common then they'll lose their value. We are not aiming for an abundance of wacky and convoluted situations which will justify crits in general.
>>
Rolled 90 (1d100)

>>3706426
>>
Rolled 47 (1d100)

>>3706426
It's up to you. If it doesn't work out you always tweak it in the future.
>>
Rolled 42 (1d100)

>>3706426
>>
>>3706426
I'll vote for that, though the dice have already been cast.

I've got another idea though - crits should only be on the first die as you said, but what about the dice value being decided by the average of the best two rolls rather than all three? As-is, having everything with a 50% chance to fail means stuff constantly won't get done and risks aren't worth taking, but that would ease the frustration somewhat and let us get shit done, but wouldn't make it easymode like best-out-of-three.
>>
>>3707406
Also, modifiers to raise/lower the success threshold according to our skills and the difficulty of what we are doing would be much more attractive than the flat 50. For example, our skills have apparently have been increasing, and this could manifest as a decrease in the success threshold for the relevant task.
>>
>>3706445
>>3706491
>>3707375

You decided to take it easy for the rest of the day by continuing reading the intricacies of Khzifltas. The author has given you a great insight on how precise giant dwarven mechanism can be. In all of your years studying the Machinus, you have never heard of The Mtzdr Manuscript.

It was in its purest essence a special set of commands carved out on Liviusr, a magical 'living metal'. Now, this is of itself wasn't much of a reveal; dwarves always used steam cores for power and Liviusr for the brains so to speak. However, The Mtzdr Manuscript was carved out with Vivekv or the 'root of rock belly' according to the author who was also puzzled of such nomenclature . It did enable much higher functions for the automatons giving them much needed autonomy but not to the extent of a free will.

Vivekv was the true secret of the dwarves, some archives mentions kingdoms fighting over unclaimed veins. Some societies has abandoned gold all together for a currency, going for Vivekv instead. Only them knew how to extract it and process it. Such Knowledge is lost to time...

The author had different illustrations of Liviusr, it resembled a small multi-shifting cube with thousands of commands written on it. Another illustration showed a raw living metal cube surrounded by countless brass arms dripping with Vivekv. Next up was the ruined city itself. Hauntingly beautiful it was.

Masdus, 4th of Uolk (Summer) (-9 Ar)

You started your day by having a delicious frozen chunk of fish with Juno. In all honestly, it wasn't that bad. You would have started a fire if you had something for your flint to light up.

The darkling seemed a lot less active. Her skin was slightly paler than usual when you handled her the food, her hands were notably cold. All of this seemed to change when an arrow whizzed right above your head harmlessly bouncing off the wall.

Juno had let you an instinctive howl, she went on all four slamming the axe repeatedly on the ground after shoving you behind her. You also went for your bow (and your carving tool).

"NO HURT! NO HURT! HORAAGH!!" Wailed Juno against the white wind which was obscuring the assailant.

"Quite the company you got there..."

"Stand down, Juno. 'Friend' ahead." You knew that venomous tone all too well. Juno was still hyperventilating, ready to chop up limbs but she reluctantly heeded your words.

Venalath was her name, She outbest you in pretty much everything during your younger years. Long flaxen hair, golden with the rarest flowers in your home unlike your sickly grey one. Of course, she had to show off her arcanus prowess by erecting a dome around her.

"Mingling with the scum of Mother Guiana? I expected more of you..." She spoke in elvish further agitating the darkling.

>Leave, you are not welcomed here.

"Ah, Vena, such a displeasure to see you again. As much as I know you love doing it, I also know you wouldn't come all the way out here into the Great Silent just to gloat. You're clearly here for something, so I'll get to the point, because the quicker you leave, the better. Whaddya want?"

"Yes, What a feat you have accomplished. Having a walking dung about must be thrilling, I'd wager."

"Why are you here?" You asked, brushing off her insults.

"Your mother wanted me , the best tracker there is, to check on you. I am in shock, to see you alive and well is something to behold. How is your ''''cure'''' by the by? Was it worth your exile?"

"MASTER RESPECT, YOU RESPECT!" Juno stood up, barely holding herself.

"Please tell your mongrel to stay silent. It offends my delicate ears." She whipped her hair in pure arrogance. "I almost pity you. Almost. No matter, I will tell your mother that i have found your corpse, ravaged by wolves and filthy humans. Hardly a lie, that. You will die out here sooner or later..."

"Y-you can't just say that! You heartless bastard! I...i..."

"...will remain helpless to stop me. There is nothing you and your puss-riddled inbred hound can do about it. I will save her some heartache this way." She laughed it off as she was leaving. Your eyes were swollen with tears, her sharp words has stabbed you like always. Always reveling in watching you squirm like an insignificant worm. You,You...

Killing that elven bitch would kill of one of our bitter enemies, get Juno a corpse to sleep in, get us whatever she has on her, and save our mother the heartache of thinking we're dead. It would also remove the morality that separates us from beasts. We can't let go of that just yet

In this way, the mere act of staying alive is a middle finger to her. And we can look forward to seeing her face as we stroll in with a steam-spewing giant death robot and pound her perfect bitchass into the dirt.
>>
>>3709174
Revenge fantasies are fun and all, but let's not get ahead of ourselves. She probably won't care that we're not actually dead and I'm not sure a death robot is exactly feasible. Still, once we're established we might be able to find a way to send a message back home. Even something as simple as "Gaeleath Yesthyra sends her regards and a kind thank you to Vera for informing her mother of her continued survival" would humiliate her.

You are the better woman, you won't allow your hatred to influence your actions.... actions that you may regret later.

You retreated to your bed, plagued by a surge of horrible memories, you started to cry. She was right, you ARE helpless but it was your CHOICE. This stark difference mattered to you the most. You didn't feel productive at all today, opting for the relative comfort of your bed instead.

Juno, in attempt to appease you, decided to work harder than usual this day.

See if she can find materials on the mainland to make a new rope with. Strict orders to stay away from anyone she sees, and to run if a fight isn't avoidable.
>>
>>3709232
I would say she should take the axe with her and defend herself if she encounters a hostile. She does need a corpse and if somebody attacks her, then her decapitating somebody in self defense wouldn't exactly be the most immoral thing we've seen today.
>>
>>3709251
Makes sense. Bring the axe and if a fight can't be avoided then chop their head off and make them into a bed. That feels weird to type.

[Average success]

Plants and trees in general are a rarity in a climate twisted by the frostblight. Those who endured the crisis have developed their unnatural ways of surviving. This is why your kin is overly protective of the Everblossom; one of the few pre-frostblight flora. You know nothing about the frozen trees in the wilderness in your brief exposure to it but you gave the darkling a brief description on what to bring back home.

It was...relaxing not to be overly stressed out for once. You had a lot of time to reflect on your life. 137 years are seemingly a lot of time for other fleeting race; a 'lifetime'. Pah! Elves can live up to a thousand year. The way your kind perceive time is vastly different.

You waited and waited in your bed until darkness has swallowed the great silent. You were begging to worry about little Juno. This worriment was dissipated in the air when the little darkling has arrived crawling on all fours with quite a haul.

"Master! Master! Poor Juno timenot? Flashy good, not?"

The darkling was intelligent enough to tie some strange branches around her waist using some sort of a strange leaf. Both came from the same tree , they had a faint glowing red strings all over them which were slightly warm.

>You have found red string branches (10)
>You have found red string leaves (20)

" Ju-...what is this?"

"New dead! Poor Juno good" The darkling had also a voluptuous human woman with crystal blue eyes, pale skin and black short hair caked with frozen blood. She wore a mishmash of hard leather, It had a gaping hole in the abdomen with frozen torn entrails jutting out.

You looked again at Juno, Her belly seemed to juggle with every excited swing of hers as she waiting for another compliment for her hard work. Doubly so for not using the doodad. One final thing to note were her eye fungus which appeared to be livelier than before all flared up.

Have Juno strip the clothes off and remove the rib bones. We should examine them to see what can be salvaged and how they can be used. Also, we can exsanguinate the corpse for the blood we need for the machine later on. Perhaps we can use what's left of her cloths (pants, boots, etc) to store it. Might as well start collecting now
>"Juno not use heat ball good. Juno go restrest for big day next day."

"Huh? Oooh..." Your slave scratched her head in response to your question stirring it up a bit inside her simpleton head for a while before spewing a reply "Juno chopchop axe flashy tree. Hmmy man speak to poor Juno, Poor Juno turn, Hmmy man say AAAAA."

Juno pointed out at a handful of her scales on her arm, battered and about to fall off "Hmmy man strike hard , Poor Juno strike hardererer!!"

"Juno, Corpse is notman..." A sense of dread began to creep on you as the darkling continued"Ya! Ya! Hmmy man miss hand bit, very quick to big four runner with notman on it. Poor Juno no chase BUT BUT, Hmmy notman fall off runner and Hmmy man no stop for notman."

"..." You remained speechless while Juno spoke more of what happened "Notman hurt from fall, leg broken, very dead in short or long time. Poor Juno hungry and...and..." She looked at you, fear swelling in her face "Poor Juno ated flesh seed in notman's tumtum? Notman scream then dead...Poor J-juno bad?"

What I gather from this is that a man and a woman arrived, the man attacked Juno on realising she was a darkling, he legged it on a horse and the woman fell off, was injured and KOd and Juno took a bite out of her while probably still alive. While this is definitely quite disturbing, a regular darkling would have probably killed and eaten them both.

"Juno not bad, but.....[sigh] make sure they dead before eat next time"
>>
>>3714550
"Master, Yes!" She was nonchalant about her heinous act. It was all instinct to her.

"Ribs out for Master?" The idea was horrible to you; desecrating a corpse like that but you didn't really have a choice. Is this too far? You try not to think too much about this.

The darkling stripped the body clean, you were slightly taken aback by her breast size; elves mostly adhere to similar body type not because of inbreeding mind you but rather due to the fact that your kind has reached perfection in that regard...humans on the other hand tend to have way more variables than you would like. The idea was both fascinating and revolting at the same time.

Juno happily mired her hands in the woman's insides for you ripping out the ribs with relative ease. Your slave has set everything on the side for you. There wasn't much on her sadly.

>You have human ribs (24)
>You have a torn bloodstained coat
>You have a small knife
>You have a blood-soaked journal.

It took you a while to sleep, your last thoughts were about how deprived you will have to be in order to survive and to eventually find the cure for the frostblight.

I'm pretty confused about what we're doing but I think we were making the bones-in-wall "ladder" with its best-of-three?
>>
>>3715282
As I understood it, using bones in crevices and cracks as pitons to get us down temporarily is a bo3. Using them as well as scraps to form a more permanent ladder is an average of 3. Based off of "we need something permanent" I assume we're going for the more permanent solution of a more secured in ladder which requires an average of 3 rolls to beat an unspecified DC.

[Slight Success]

For the time being, your improvised ladder can hold your weight. You should be careful with each step; no clue when it might snap for your unfortunate doom.

The second level was a treasure trove, you called Juno down to help you to reorganize your findings. It took you the whole day to reorganize the whole place. this level was a lot more stable compared to the previous underground level with only two gaping holes instead of troublesome platforms. The only notable problem were the fireflies who were uncomfortable with to bipedal aliens so close to them. They kept flashing painful lights, it was too dizzying to concentrate properly. You are fairly certain that this used to be a storage area. Lucky you! Lucky you!

What is this? An iron safe with a silent rune on it. You may not know the way of the arcanus but you have seen a lot of it by others like dear Venalath. You stopped Juno from touching it. It wasn't elvish, no, something more vile and wicked...Touching it can be quite dangerous

You threw a small rock at the safe prompting it to unleash a grey miasma within a small radius around the safe. Everything was turned into stone, even the ice. A prettifying rune? The damn rune is still there? curses. That could explain the handful of stone feet found in the snow. You were not the only one who tried to open it up.

You will need someone with Arcanus knowledge to disarm it. Runes are often made to last for a long time. They are not infinite though...if you got the time and the effort to safely trigger it, you may find yourself depleting its original charge.

You are tired, Juno is tired. Both of you are yearning for some sleep.

Vendus, 6th of Uolk (Summmer) (-15 Ar)

The frozen winds were licking your exposed feet forcing you to wake up, It is so cold...even with the trapdoor closed, it manages to seep through.

"Master Gogo!" Juno hugged your legs, her tantalizing warm was quite something. "Best Master! Very Best!"

"Thank you?" You were a very lenient master so far, maybe you deserve some praise. Not bad. Juno climbed up to the trapdoor only to fall on her behind retreating back to your legs once more, shriveling.

"What's wrong, Juno?'

"G-giant. B-big horns! Poor Juno scared. Bad Giant! Bad BAD BAD BAD!!!" She was absolutely going hysterical as her clutch tightened to the point of discomfort.

You held her rancid breath with your hand to listen to this Faroi. You heard a cheerful whistle followed a brief grunting sound then a playful humming of an old Giant, a man by how gravel it was.

"Poor Juno scare, Master H-help?"

"No! No! BAD NO GO! NO GO!' She was soaking your naked belly with tears and snot.

"Easy,easy...Juno stay close to Master. Juno Fine" In truth, you wanted to use her warm body as a temporary insulation against the weather.

"Who's there?" It worked too well in fact with her dropping the axe to coil around your proper. Well, it didn't matter. Outside, The Crossbreed sat on the floor, peacefully fishing with his rod.

It was a size to behold, A least four holds your size, long bread so flaxen, you would mistake it for a maiden's hair. Same with his grey hair. His horns were black, thick and burly much like his body. His face had hints of youth spent nothing but waves of silent wrinkles while His nose was the size of your head, all rosy from the bitter cold. His free hand was drumming over a gigantic axe capable of bringing down a small hut. He had a huge backpack made out of patched leather of various creatures.

"Hmmmm...." He didn't pay you much attention, just a peripheral glance here and there as the methodically changed his bait (some animal's limb) "No luck...A livelier bait is in order perhaps?"

"PLEASENONONONO" Juno's screams were muffled by your steaming navel, The giant pulled out a worm longer than your arm.

"Hmmmm..Ahaa." He caught one of those invisible fish, much, much larger than the one you stole "No...It is the Bait. I wonder..."

"You are scaring my fish..." He replied, nonchalantly. His human tongue is pretty decent actually, you know nothing about the giants and how they speak. You heard it is mostly grunts , groans and sighs.

Junp was still trembling from his rather peaceful aura surrounding him " I am G-"

The giant has let out a sighing gust out of his hidden mouth "...you scared them, you and the Black one." He stood to stretch his back before packing up his belongings "Shame to leave this good spot. Don't follow, I won't be ever so kind to pestering little people."

So, like, a cubic foot perhaps?

The plan here is to pull a not-the-intended-use with the safe's lithification field to manufacture quality building materials out of the one thing this world has fucktons of. Pack the box full of snow or crushed ice (by the sounds of it we can get it down here on level -2) as a mould, tip it out like a sandcastle, cut them into blocks, place them around the safe and then lob a stone at the safe to trigger it and produce a batch of stone bricks! Having a supply of them should immensely help with bricking up the door properly.
>>
>>3717339
It can work out i guess, on the account of critical thinking. You will have to roll for it to avoid some mishaps in this seemingly easy task
>>
>>3717339
We can't build real good stuff using just this as we don't have mortar or other stuff. A bunch of stone bricks will still be a massive improvement over what we have (i.e. nothing). As long as the runes have magic we have infinite stone. If the runes do run out of magic, we'll have access to the mystery box.

With your utmost care, you have about a dozen of icy bricks around the safe. It was a tedious task but it sure paid off after the stony miasma has claimed them.

>You have stone bricks (12)

This is definitely a better choice compared to using rubble; so uniform and efficient. Juno has faithfully carried them away as per your command. However, you were really tempted to get what is inside the safe choosing to pelting it with stone until the rune was no more. You wouldn't trust Juno with such simple task, she must get herself petrified by contrived means. You wonder how long this will take....

You decided to work on making the door using both the bricks and the rubble with Juno's sludge being the sap that will hold them together. Naturally, Juno was by your side (for insulation purposes)

>The temporary door's progress (0/150) is divided into:
-50 Makeshift Door of any sort for passage

It was rather fun in the first hour or two. As time went on, it became a mind-numbing chore. The rune still persists to spite you hissing its content at the slightest contact. You need this distraction as mundane as it was.

Before retreating to your bed, Juno came up to you whispering "Master, Night hide walking four or six. What doing?" Unlike your morning guest, you heard an inquisitive snarl followed by a sniff. A ruckus had soon erupted before a painful shriek echoed in the great silent.

You took a peak from the trapdoor, it was pitch black but you could see the faint glow of the afflicted scrap parts scattered all over. The creature must have touched them, death will soon follow.

It was hard to exactly know what was going on up there thanks to the howling winds. Your darkling was more than eager to let out the primal beast inside of her as she waltzed right away, axe in hand.

Some time has passed, it made you anxious and uncertain of the final outcome. The cries of pure joy is soaring in the starless skies dispelling anything foul; Juno has returned!

She was dragging a headless corpse of an animal with thick white fur and a scaly tail, its six long limbs had fleshy feet, bulbous in a fine way. The body itself was relatively small in comparison " Head Blue, Blue! Poor Juno No head!"

The headless body continued to spill vicious red blood on the floor. "What Juno do in dead?"

Unfortunately, you have woken up a bit late thanks to your butchering deeds.

>You have only 1ry and 2ry action today.

The Frostblight is rearing its ugly head upon you. Even the bloody floor was frozen making it all slippery to walk on. You went for the poor fur and tucked it in the gaping hole of your clothes. It STILL wasn't enough! You have to do something about it, right now!

Surely, those little people could crack it in no time. You will have to wait. You waited in silence for your slave to rise from the dark underbellies of the spire. She has returned with a bloated waterskin, panting.

The doodad has lost its warmth after a single day. This was good to know. There was but a chunk of fish left to eat. Eating raw animal flesh on the other hand is just unsanitary and barbaric. You will have to figure something out for your food problem.

The darkling had no problem swallowing uncooked meat. She wolfed it down in a matter of seconds. What a strange little thing. A whole week has passed and you still know little of your slave. When the time is ripe, you will get know Poor Juno. For now, It is all about survival.

A giant splash outside has announced the arrival of the Neosm. They had their construct with them as well as another one of similar design but with a rounder body. A goofy oddball in comparison to its menacing brother.

"Fairest days to you, surface dweller!" The brother, Conm greeted you. His relaxed composure has changed when he spotted Juno "Caution! Ill creature!"

"No,no, no...It is Juno. My slave. She is harmless." Your darkling stood confused, She didn't show any signs of hostility to the Neosm whom she had seen them for the first time.

"Trusting your words..." His suit has returned to normal, moments ago, it was all puffed up. You barely held your laughter.

"Worthy or Perishment! " Ah yes, the lovely sister who wants to dig her claws in the spire by killing you.

"I have it, it is..." You stopped. How blind have you been! You already have the Gamon! It can serve the same purpose! Question is: are you willing to give it to them instead of whatever lies in the safe? You are in no position to bargain with them...

"Interesting of most..." With a snap of his finger, the construct slithered down the trap door to retrieve the safe.

"USN : GOHRDM." Hobn gave a command in her tongue. The construct pried it out with relative ease showing its content to the siblings.

"Hornannn..." Both gasped at the reveal, before you get a chance to see what is inside, the rounder construct has swallowed the safe in its round, metallic belly.

"Apology for lesser your scavenge. This a great find." Cohn climbed over the round construct, pulling out something from its metallic maw " Fortune smiling upon you, With heart, I give...sees more precious."

>You have Jardoun, a precious metal detecting compass.

"Spire yours...Gannenm Law abide..." Hobn has forewent her murderous intents. That doesn't mean she was any friendlier.

"Excellence! We must commence trading, helpful to dual parties. Sadness, we carry minuscule for trading in current time. Please, Tell of parts of scavenge and scrap we brought here in...two of days?"

"Correct, Two of days. Parts trade for parts. Five of days for little special" added Hobn "Alternative is gold. Nutrient."

"Your kind...eats gold?" A stunning surprise. A useful one too. You have a lot of gold. Finally, some use for it.

"Confirm, very delicious. Many good food plates for Birthhome. Speak of your want, please..."

We're pretty close to getting the materials for a Faeirk automaton. We need 6 units of copper wiring, 1 small gear part, and 1 large sheet of iron (or 2 large scraps) if I understand it right. Those all sound like simple things they'd have in stock for sale/trade. For now though, we need to focus on surviving.

For the day:

Primary: Get a fire going in level 2. Use wood from the barrel and experiment with the sludge as a fuel source.

Secondary: Start cooking some meat and have our first real meal with actual cutlery.

Tertiary: Continue reading the book from earlier.

Juno: Use the bricks to start blocking off the entrance. It won't be enough, but it's a start.

Using the sole wooden container you had, you started a proper fire. It was so comforting to say the least, the flames seemed to annoy nearby fireflies who were to float about in the lower levels instead.

>You have made a camp fire, it should last for 1 day unless it is rekindled with any flammable object

Juno, who was bringing up the bricks to the surface, has slipped over a bloody bit leaving her with a painful bump on her hair. You really should clean the floor, it still suffers of your crude butchering. Last thing you would want is a broken arm or leg.

Moving on, You tired to experiment with the sludge. you already knew that it was sticky...is it flammable too?

Hardly, a stench like no other filled the lower levels. You find it really difficult to breathe. It did change the colour of the flame to an elegant black. You weren't sure if this was worth the whole trouble.

Now for the actual cooking part, you could simply put it as it is on dry fire and call it a day or you could use your water for a poor man's stew. Your choice...

Back to your reading, you were torn about whether you should do so in the middle of your bed or around the cozy fire. You chose the latter, a more natural choice if you had to choose any.

The author went for some broader aspects of Khziftas, specifically the mines connected to it. There were five (six if you counted a depleted one) mines at hand, each with its specific set of output for the city.

>You have some knowledge on Khziftas mines (Mxntrd, Gokafirt, Varbakin, Erdkmns, Fedramzn and Yradne)

The dwarves were rightfully obsessed with the gullets of Guiana with their constant mining operations churning out what they can get their little stubby fingers on. Many theorized that the dwarves brought the frostblight. There were the first race to leave this mortal releam afterall...

Finally, the authors has dedicated the last chapters to something she has called 'Ruinous bellow of unimagined proportions'

You spent the rest of the day cleaning your previous mess. There, just a little better. At the end of the day, you sat next to the dwindling fire by your slave who was childishly drawing on the floor with her wicked fingers.

"Juno, you never told me about yourself..." you thought it was a good time to ask.

"Hrn? Poor Juno?"

"Yes, where did you come from? Where is your master?"

"Oooh..." She stared at the crackling fire, her mind was adrift for quite some time "Poor Juno...Poor Juno memory little...Master beat kill Poor Juno, brothers and notmans..."

"Was he cruel?"

"Master never bad, we always bad. We fail master with kill or bite or nappy quick live toys for work. Master kind...feeds us. Azik..." She muttered his name real quick "Master of storms, dead, shocks, pointy twenty legs! Now dead...home dead. We shatter. Must find master, you Master Goag!"

Her previous master must be well versed in the arcanus but from her description, he seemed to pursue personal glory rather than a noble goal such as yours. "What else can you tell me about your life there?"

"Many brothers, hot, yellow snow, warm, very tight... big hot in skies." Strange, you didn't interrupt her ambitious description "And...and, Ttysarl.. Giant,Oh...NOT GIANT! NOT GIANT!"

Also, from the description she gave, this is starting to sound like literal hell or related to it. I'm reminded of that symbol we found on the entrance floor.

i guess i will call for today. i think waiting five hours for a single reply is enough.

If there isn't any more reply by tomorrow then i guess the quest will be dead. If i sound like i am threatening my players or being pretentious, i am not. there is no intrest, It is FINE. Not everyone is into slow-paced, difficult quests or dice-heavy ones. It is off-putting to some and it is totally alright.

Please don't take it the wrong way, it is just that i can't do much with such a dwindling number of players. I am sorry if i wasted your time in one way or another.

"All dead, Poor Juno alone, long..long..." Her tears trickled down her unwashed cheeks. To some extent, you know how it feels to be alone. You have never spoken to an elf of the same mindset. You were shunned by everyone for following the Machinus. You can't imagine the true isolation she had been through...no doubt she tried to make friends with travelers only for them to scream in horror due to her dark nature.

Something stirred up inside... you didn't know how to describe this feeling. You started to soothe the darkling via a song, a children's song. The eternal spring, the happiness it will bring, the bountiful harvest, the twinkling butterflies...

You allowed Juno to rest on your lap, slowly, she began to drift asleep. It was uncomfortable for you but you didn't move; let your slave enjoy a brief moment of peace where all of her woes fade away. You were soon to follow.

Mailus, 9th of Uolk (Summer) (-3 Ar)

Your back was still aching from yesterday's sleep. Juno seemed to be exceptionally content. It was worth it, you thought.

You went outside (still with the fur wrapped around the hole in your clothes) for some fresh air expecting the wind to howl in defiance like it always do. This time, you were wrong...the skies are silent. An unholy swathe of chilling mist has swept over the great silent. You could see nil beyond your feet.

Six torches were ablaze in the horizon. Six torches, lit, in the great unknown accompanied by a muffled cry of a man and some murmuring.

"You there! We know you are there in that accursed tower, Knife ear. " shouted one among men "We know you are sheltering a black one in its dark bowels."

"Blasted Whoreson, Did you tame her to ambush travelers too? I ought to burn the flesh off your bones!" a fire orb was erected among the torches, quickly to be snuffed out moments later.

"MY WIFE, MY UNBORN SON...WHY...WHY..." Came the cries of a desperate man deprived from his two joys of life. Another murmuring followed between them.

"The dead demand justice! Bring that black one on its knees or you will share the same fate!" Your lips were trembling, your hands were shaking. How could this have happened?

"Master?" Juno appeared behind you, a face of innocence she had. They weren't too stupid to barge into the spire like so; fighting a dangerous darkling in close quarters could prove to be dangerous despite their overwhelming numbers.

Sure. And "Since it seems like you have forgotten, I would like to remind you that YOU attacked unprovoked, and YOU abandoned your wife. Trying to foist it all on me is a little rich. I imagine you also neglected to tell your lackeys this."

Sorry for not being here, I've been occupied the last couple of days. The quest so far has been mostly us getting kicked into the dirt whenever we try and stand up over and over, so I'm not keen to go out of my way when I'm busy to keep up with it.

"Is that true daimen? Did you abandon my own flesh? did you leave them for dead? Tell me! TELL ME!" The hoarse voiced man dropped his torch, drawing his weapon instead.

"I-i would never! The harlot is lying! trying to save her own skin! Listen to your own brother, Kajal!" Tension continued to escalate as the group were almost at each others throat trying to separate the two.

"Your daimen has bolted off, She broke her legs from the fall...your woman was among the dead from the start..."

The broken man howled like a rabid hound, unsure where to prime his hatred. " I am offering you 250 gold, for lives lost, human." Confidence was surging back in your body "Gods, above and below, will guide their souls..."

"You...you..." The grieving father, Kajal, went silent for a couple of seconds before...

"What good is her coins, brother? It won't brin-"

"SILENCE! I have made my mind. Little elf, bring the black one from its den. I want to see it with my own eyes..."

"No harm to befall on her? Do you promise?" You asked the shaken man.

"None, have it bring the coin..."

"It was 250 for lives lost as recompense for the tragedy of death, not for any sins. Normally, I would say you sinned by abandoning your wife, but this was an exceptional circumstance and you could not have known my Darkling slave Juno was friendly. I am willing to pay for the loss of life and let you see the darkling in peace, but not to burden myself with sins I did not commit. " or something similar

"Or so you say..." While still broken, the man was getting a hold on himself forsaking his tears and his bleeding heart for a sterner voice.

"Shiny to man, no harm till hit first." It was a huge gamble to put your trust into a group of bloodthirsty humans but you have little choice in the matter.

Like a timid mouse, Juno followed your words. She disappeared in the miss with the coin, not fully aware of what is going on?

"Black one, can you speak?"

"Brother, you can't reason with beasts. We have the advantage!" The one called daimen tried to interrupt this conversation. The father ignored these false warnings.

And so, Juno has explained what happened. At least, you had assumed so, her voice was but whispers hidden in the mist.

"Little Elf, What is your name?" asked the man.

"Gaeleath Yesthyra."

"Keep your dark spawn inside, It has no place in a crumbling world..."

"What a bloody shame...lacking a spine to avenge your family? So be it, I will carry on in your stead." You heard Daimen unsheathing his sword the moment after.

"Juno no!" You cried. A kerfuffle has erupted soon after. Safety be damned! With your knife and bow, you rushed into the unknown, only to find the strangest of scenes...

A bloody tooth on the icesheet, A bruised man tied up like a prized hog. A man with a bloodshot eyes and a scruffy bread panting, blood dripping from his knuckles. A company standing in silence...

"An act of nature i can forgive...but an act of cowardice..." Kajal spat on his brother's face "You deserve no better than this fate...Mother is rolling in her grave."

"I have one request of you...make your black one feast on him...slowly. Let him suffer for as long as it takes. We are leaving..."

Just like that, the group was about to leave, ignoring the screams and the pleas of their former comrade.

Yeaaahhhh no. Keeping that guy is asking for a knife in the back.

>Slit his throw, draw his precious blood.

But do it after the humans leave, no need to kill one of their own in front of them, even if they despise him.
>>
>>3728876
Let's first drag him into the tower and then start talking.

"Were you not swearing up and down that you were going to kill me? Tell me, what could you possibly say that would convince me you wouldn't plunge a knife in my back the first chance you get? I would prefer keeping you alive as my slave, but you must make it worth it to me."

We might kill him or not, but no matter what, we should start getting some info from him. Things like info on the surroundings and on the humans that just betrayed him. Worst case scenario, he flips out and we just exsanguinate him. If he's really cooperative we might just chop some fingers off and have him do slave labor for us under Juno's supervision. Just spitballing some ideas

His eyes are flickering with primal fear as you draw your knife closer and closer to his pulsating neck "I-i-i-i can protect you. I got a strong arm an-"

"Yes, clearly.." you burst into laughter, tears trickling from your eyes "...you are a disgrace to your kind. We had literal infants with more wit than you."

"Man sniff bad...Taste bad?" Juno was licking his legs and groin for a taste, immediately repulsed by his newfound wetness.

"Don't let it near me, please!"

"Then start talking!" your knife drew a bit of blood.

"I...i...work for my wretched brother. He wanted me to escort his family while he was busy making some coins. Beyond the valley, There is a human settlement there inside and old labyrinthine..."

"The Fealmalath?" you raised an eyebrow. The dwarves have built to for the worst mother Guiana could offer: unruly beasts, fetid abominations, wicked weilders of the arcanus... Why would anyone settle there?

Daimen gulped "Yes, takes three months to get there. I-i-i b your guide... A sultry elf like you ca-"

His words were cut short by Juno's maw which was more than capable of swallowing his head in one chomp "I..i..i..there another group of people that i may have...abandoned over a pack of wolves. Plump mother, three son. T-they ar...i can show you were they have been ambushed, you could scavenge their belonging to your heart's content ."

There was a pause, a quick glance over your slave "I-i can also show you the routes we are taking, we lost our home so we are coming here in droves...you can put your pet into good use, perfect for an ambush. We are not as powerful as you might think. Kajal spent a little fortune just to round up a bunch of traitors...Survival of the f-fittest, correct?"

"Please! No! NO! Noraghk...." It happened without a warning, your knife was cutting through his neck. Blood gushing all over the floor. Your remained petrified for a couple of seconds. You are actually doing it...your first kill slowly drifting away to the land of the dead.

"Reddy! Precious!" Juno had brought a pot for his vital throatblood. You find yourself cutting more and more from his still body until you fully decapitated him.

Oh what a RUSH! You span with your new head in glee like a child with her new toy. What a beautiful toy it was! You threw it, Kicked it, mired it all over your chest. Then...then..

WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?! You threw the lifeless head in horror as far as you can panicking over everything. How could you? How could you?! what has possessed your hand to perform such an atrocious act?!

"Master?" You couldn't breathe, the guilt was already eating you from the inside.Your tearful eyes watch Juno hang the corpse upside down for each drop of blood.

>you have 10 Higz of fresh throatblood

You are no different than him, both monsters in the making, trying to survive this harsh world. Keep shedding your morality and you will lose your true self.

Her being a fungal savage who smells of death has seemed to have gotten us into some trouble. The only people who didn't go crazy on sight of her had literal gas masks on. I think we'll have to stick to machine servants (if we can actually get one going, big if)
>>
>>3731175
so question, if we can figure out how to reshape the gold coins could we use crude gold wire instead of copper wire for crafting things?
>>
>>3731635
Gold is soft, but not *that* soft. You'd need some machinery, heavy tools or casting kit to make wires that aren't just coins glued end to end. Silver would make excellent wires (very soft, low resistivity, low melting point), even better than copper, if we could get hold of it.

OP:
In a world plunged into frozen chaos, you, Gaeleath Yesthyra, will find a cure for the Frostblight no matter what it takes. After some decent discoveries in the underground level of the spire, you have found something of worth for the two scavenger Neosm, earning you the right to 'keep' the spire. Juno, your darkling slave, was caught in a terrible situation which had escalated to direct confrontation with a group of humans. Their leader, Kajal, took most of your coin as a compensation and left his cowardly brother in your hands after learning the dark truth from your slave's mouth. You have tainted your hand with rotten blood, will it change you? This remains to be seen...
