“Nooooooo!” Daikon falls over. “Was... was so close...”

“Haha, I’m gonna win! Now I just need to-!”

“Not so fast.” you comment confidently. “You forgot about something.”

Baozi looks to you, confused. “W-wha-?”

“Staying in second and third has its perks, you see. And not that you’ve spent all your items... you’re wide open!”

“Oh no! OH NO!”

You stand and bow. The boys sigh in defeat. “I almost won!” Baozi grumbles out.

“Ah, but almost isn’t the same as actually winning. You need to know how to pace yourself. Be it in Kart Racing or martial arts or even studying. Take it from me, boys, just rushing in can seem like it’ll work in the short term, but in the long term it’s a detriment.”

“Ohhhh...” Daikon nods, seemingly understanding.

“Plus, I’ve been playing this waaaay longer than either of you. Can’t ignore a difference in skill and practice either.”

Baozi rubs his chin. “Dad did say something about that a while back, I think.”

“I think so. Dad and uncle Nappa did say something about meeting with Tien.” he replies, standing up as well.

“Is your dad still mad about losing in the Tournament?” Daikon asks the older boy a little crassly, though more out of curiosity than anything else.

“Ehhh... I don’t really try to talk to him about it.” Baozi admits, rubbing the back of his neck. “He still seems kinda... I dunno, like, he just doesn’t want to bring it up. But dad’s been playing with me a lot more! We’ve even gotten to train some more together! Ooh ooh ooh, he showed me some cool moves too!”

Daikon’s eyes light up. “Cool moves?! Like what?! Dad’s taught me some cool moves too!”

Baozi crosses his arms and replies proudly, “I learned some really neat ones, like the Galick Gun! Dad even helped me develop a new spin on the Dodonpa!”

You pat the both of them on the head. “All right, all right, let’s have the two of you take this outside instead of showing off all of it in here. Don’t want to make Pilaf mad, after all.” Leading them, you add, “Plus, I bet it’d be pretty good training for you two.”

Their eyes light up in glee, and the pair of boys follow after you, tails swaing behind them excitedly. You see Baozi’s mom and tell her that they want to train for a bit, with the young woman giving you the go-ahead. Making sure you’re a good distance away from civilization, you tell the boys to show off what they’ve got. Daikon starts off first, raising his hands up above his head and charging two spheres of energy in them, then thrusting them forward and letting out a combined energy wave through them, blasting apart a large boulder some distance away. Daikon then dusts his hands off, commenting proudly, “Dad’s Weekend attack, pretty cool, huh?”

“You know, it kinda looks like my dad’s Final Flash.” Baozi comments.

“Whaaaa? No way, it’s totally different! See, you raise your arms like this, and then fire off!” And Daikon demonstrates again, this time blasting off the edge of a cliff.

“Still looks similar.” Baozi adds. “Now watch this! It’s something dad helped me with, a spin on the Dodonpa!” He holds up a pair of fingers on his right hand, and a circular ring of energy starts to form around the tips. Baozi then fires off a Dodonpa, with the ring of energy still around the tip, right into a boulder made by Daikon’s last attack. The Dodonpa pierces through it, but the ring he made sticks embedded in the rock.

Huh. Now that’s a new one.

You and Daikon move closer, inspecting it, as Baozi walks up proudly. “Wooooah! Look, it’s stuck in there pretty good!”

“Heh heh, yeah. Pretty cool, huh? It’s a binding technique dad’s worked on, but I was able to manage it too. I did want to give it a cooler name though, something like... Galactic Donut.”

“...Donut?” Daikon repeats, frowning at Baozi. “Come on, why that?”

“What, you too? Come on, it’s a great name!”

“Nah maybe like... Galactic Torus. Galactic... Mobius?” the long-haired boy comments.

“Torus technically fits better, since it’s not a Mobius strip.” you add in. “A Mobius strip only has one side.” You poke at the ring. Maybe not a powerful move, but certainly a useful one.

“Mom wants me to make sure I use my brain as well as my other muscles. Plus I wanna be smart like you and Peppa are!” he replies excitedly.

“What else has Suno taught you?”

He rubs his head. “Uhhh let’s see... mom’s taught me stuff like, reading maps well, and stuff about weather science, and geography, aaaaaand... some math! Like geometry!”

“Heh, well look at you. Nice job.” Okay, better not let it get to his head though. “Now, those are pretty good and all, but you two aren’t the only ones with a few useful skills. How about you two let me show you things I’ve picked up through my training?”

They grin wide at you, finding a place to sit and settling down. You start off with the most flashy of your moves, the Shinespark. You show it off to them and give a little explanation to how you and your mom developed it, how you, mom, and your future self used it in a critical moment against Hatchiyak, and how you helped Pantea learn it as well, the boys remembering it from the Tournament. Next off, you decide to explain a bit on the Magics you learned thanks to mom, both Light Magic and Lightning Magic, and how you’ve been able to use them with some of your skills. And lastly, you show off some of your sword skills... though that doesn’t really impress them as much as your other techniques have.

“So, that’s just a sample of what I’ve got. Anything you two have been trying to learn that you might need help with?”

“Ooh! Ooh! Gohan, Gohan! I wanna learn some Magic!” Daikon calls out excitedly.

“Hmm... you think dad might be impressed if I can improve on one of the things he taught me with something?” Baozi questions.

“So, you wanna learn some magic, cous? Well, what do you wanna start on, you saw Light and Lightning but-”

“I wanna learn FIRE!” he yells out. “I saw Pantea do it, and I saw uncle Acer do it, so I wanna try Fire!”

“Fire, huh? Well... you know, sure, I could help you with that.” You turn to the older boy. “How about you, Baozi? What do you have in mind?”

“Hmm... well...” He looks over his hands. He thinks for a moment, then gets an idea. “Dad did try something new at the Tournament. Said he got the idea from it by watching Peppa, so maybe I could try to learn it myself!”

“Well, ambitious, huh? But you know what, that sounds like a good idea. All right boys, let’s try this.”

You begin training with the pair of them, recalling some of the things mom, Pantea, and uncle Acer showed you... and while you do manage some of the basics for him, you end up needing to contact your uncle for some help on this. Acer actually talks with Daikon directly, and going over some more of the basics, the boy ends up developing something unique. Spinning his body aroung in mid-air, he lets out a short burst of energy and wreaths it in flames, preforming a sort of flaming tackle of sorts.

He decides to dub the ability, Fire Somersault.

Daikon is next, and he has some ideas of his own on how to preform the attack. You actually prove a bigger help with this one, as you’ve seen a lot of Peppa’s moves yourself in the past to sort of repeat the steps Vegeta did to develop his move. While you get the concept, you also don’t quite manage to get the hang of it yourself, instead trying to help Baozi learn it first.

Finally seeming to get the hang of it, the boy starts to build up Ki in both of his hands, then pulls them back like he’s about to use the Galick Gun, only crossing his arms and having the sides of his palms touch. He builds up more and more energy, even transforming into a Super Saiyan as he readies the attack. “Okay! Here goes! Haaaaaa! HELIX...” Baozi thrusts his hands forward, pointing them up into the air. “GALICK GUN!” A spinning beam of energy fires forth. The boy powers down, a look of absolute joy on his face. “Gohan! GOHAN I DID IT! I DID IIIIITTT!”

Back towards Mifan, you sense a few people’s energies moving your way. Seems like one of them is Vegeta.

>A. All right, maybe you can give that a try again, you sort of get the basics...
>B. Baozi, wanna meet up with your dad and tell him?

You give the both of them high-fives. “There you go, guys! How’s that for some training?”

“That was awesome! Dad’s gonna be so surprised when he gets back!” Daikon exclaims.

“Heh, my dad’s worked pretty hard to get this move, but I managed to do it all on my own! ...Ooh, wow, feelin’ a little light-headed.” he comments, rubbing his forehead.

“Guessing that it takes a bit more energy to pull off than you’re used to.” you comment. “Did you need to go Super Saiyan to really used it?”

“I mean, kinda. I just kept powering up trying to get it to work.”

“Right, right... so maybe that’s the key to it...” you guess. “Say, Baozi, Daikon, anything you both think you could learn from one another? Maybe you two’ll be able to help one another develop some other new skills.”

“Huh... you know, we could.” Daikon comments. “What do you say?”

“Well, I’m sure I’ll be able to go slow enough for you to keep up.” Baozi comments smugly.

“Oh so that’s how it is. Heh, maybe Gohan was right about skill coming before strength.” the long-haired boy retorts, a smug grin on his face again.

You take care to watch them, but also start focusing on trying to mimic what you saw Baozi do. Come on, if the kid can do it surely you can... mmh. No, you do need more raw power, but maybe... ugh, no, that’s not it. You thrust your hands forward as you try to make a weak Kamehameha on the principle. Aaaand it doesn’t work. Hmm... maybe if you-

“Do I even want to ask what you’re doing?” Vegeta’s voice grunts at you. You turn around and see him, Nappa, and Shao all standing together. Baozi waves excitedly at his parents, Shao smiling kindly back at him. Vegeta seems a bit more bemused... though not as hostile as you thought he might be, admittedly.

>A. Ah, nothing, just trying some training with these two! You know, helping out my fellow Saiyans!

“Ah, nothing, nothing, just helping these two with some training! You know, spending some time with my fellow Saiyans!” you reply cheekily. While not amused by your response, Vegeta doesn’t seem TOO irritated by it either. “Actually, Baozi! Come here, show your dad what you managed. Oh, but try not to use as much Ki this time, just enough to show it off.”

The boy almost bolts over, first bowing to his parents, then powering up again. “HaaaaaAAA-AH!” His hair goes gold, and begins to charge up some Ki in his hands, beinging them back and repeating the motions. He then charges the attack, and once it’s ready, declares, “HELIX! GALICK GUN!”

He fires it off, weaker than last time, bit it’s still enough to fire through a nearby cliff, boring through it and leaving a sizable hole. Baozi powers down again, exhaling deeply. He turns to Vegeta. You look back as well, hesitantly. Vegeta’s... surprised. Not angry, but surprised. Okay, got something you can help with. You comment to Vegeta, “He got it first try, and I still haven’t even made anything close to it. He’s a real genius, Vegeta.”

Shao sighs, but smiles. “Yep. Definitely takes after his dad.”

Vegeta walks over to Baozi... and grins proudly, placing his hand on the boy’s head and ruffling his hair. “He certainly does.”

You do a little quick fist pump into the air. Yes! You notice even Nappa with a slight smile on his face out of the corner of your eye. “It is quite an impressive technique, Vegeta.”

“Of course it is. I must say, you’ve managed it quicker than even I was able to.” Vegeta surprisingly admits to his son. “Is that the only reason you’re here, Gohan? Helping these two train?”

“I mean, I was trying to do some training myself. And this helped give me some new ideas.”

“And what are you training FOR, exactly? You didn’t show up back at the Tournament, and I certainly heard through plenty of people what you were up to. Do you wish to complete the challenge next time around, or is there something else you’re trying to do?” Vegeta looks to you and crosses his arms. “You too managed that Super Saiyan 3 form like your father and sister. Are you trying to work to master that ability, or are you working on some other goal?”

“Do you now?” Vegeta questions, his tail moving down from being wrapped around his waist.

Your tail sways slightly as well, and you look down at it for a moment. You then look back at Vegeta, adding, “That said, I must admit that the path you are going down is an interesting one. Its power is phenomenal, but you’ve taken so long to get it to the level you’re at now. So, now that you know, Vegeta, I have to ask: what about you? What are you training towards?”

Vegeta chuckles. “What every true Saiyan trains for. To be the best. Do I need more?”

You laugh. “We both know there’s more to it than that. Is it to show you can overcome those who defeated you before? My dad, my sister, Chuu Lee?”

Vegeta’s eyes narrow. “Are you sure you should be the one asking that question, Gohan?”

“Maybe there’s a part of me that wants to prove that I can beat Peppa one on one. Maybe there’s a part of me that wants to prove that I’m... not just taking after mom, or dad, or sis, or anyone else. That I’m my own person walking my own path. But that’s not as important as being able to confront things like Hirudegarn should they show up. So, am I right or not?”

“...Hmnh. Do you believe that’s all?”

You rub your chin. “...Nnnnah. You have goals beyond them, for sure. But those are goals further off, aren’t they?” You look down to Baozi. “...Though I guess there is one other goal you have on your mind.”

“And what is that?” Vegeta’s tone doesn’t seem as hostile, but he clearly wants you to get to the point.

“You want to make sure Baozi ends up surpassing even us, don’t you? You have pride in your son. You know he has potential.” You give the kid a friendly smile. “I know he has potential too.”

He grins back at you, and Vegeta’s expression eases slightly. He turns and nods his head at you to follow. “Gohan. Come on.”

“Huh?”

“I’d like to spar.”

Yeah, I had fun! I have certain ideas in mind for Baozi and Daikon regarding techniques, but Fire Somersault and Helix Galick Gun are really cool!

If I may make a suggestion, Tuesday is the day of Fire in Japan, so I think a good alternative to Fire Somersault would be Tuesday Tumble.

It's not really playing with fire, but I think Daikon would do well focusing on what he's learned to manipulate the weather or clouds, like infuse clouds with his ki so he can be intangible in a foggy area where he can fight his opponent like MGR's Monsoon when he uses a red phosphorus grenade. Could probably even work with smoke if he wants.

For Baozi, what if he could make short-range Dodonpas of sorts that function as claws, or Crane Talons? Can he shoot Dodonpas from just his hands, or his feet and tail as well?

Unfortunately, I will not be able to play tomorrow, so I wish you all well. Thanks for the session!

Dang, Helix Galick Gun is a pretty hefty title for an attack. Galick must have been a legendary hero of some renown, and the Saiyans apparently held Helix in high regard as well.

You grin with confidence. “Challenge accepted, Vegeta. You got a place you want to do this?”

“Follow me.” He takes off into the air, and you fly up after him, the two of you heading further away from civilization. Nappa, Shao, and the boys follow. You reach a wide, secluded beach area with the nearest civilians several hundred kilometers away. Nappa seems to recognize the place, letting out a quiet “Heh” as Vegeta stands some distance away from you.

“So, how’s this going down?”

“It should be simple enough. I want to see your strength for myself, Gohan.” Vegeta takes his stance, his aura flaring up around his body, hair turning gold as he transforms into a Super Saiyan. “Are you ready? Five knock-downs, first one to it can be considered the winner.”

Your foot pushes back slightly as you ready yourself. Vegeta’s guard is up, so it’s going to take a bit to get through it. But you’ve got an idea. Instead of going Super Saiyan immediately, you launch forward, leaving an afterimage briefly. Vegeta isn’t tricked by it, but it’s enough to allow you just an extra bit of time to yell out, “KAIO-KEN! TIMES TEN!”

You do manage to land a hit on Vegeta, but it does less damage than you’d have wanted it to, and the gap in strength is still pretty substantial. He smirks. “My turn.” Vegeta grabs your arm and throws you to the ground hard enough that you bounce. You try to flip back up and try to use a Kiai twice to force him back, but Vegeta merely guards against it and then dashes at you.

“You asked for it!” You toss a Ki blast at him, one he can easily dodge, but then try to redirect it back at him. Vegeta keeps dashing at you, but at the last minute swerves to the side and you nearly hit yourself with the Spirit Ball. Vegeta’s hand hits your back, and you’re knocked away and into the dirt again.

“That’s two, Gohan. You going to take this seriously now?”

“Heh. Absolutely. HRRAAAAAHHH!” Your hair spikes up and goes gold as well as you transform, taking a defensive stance. But you’re not on complete defense just yet, and bring forward the Spirit Ball at him, trying to hit him in the back of the head. Vegeta dodges and advances, and right as you try to block where he’s going to hit, he feints and grabs your arm again, tossing you into the air with tremendous force, then leaping back up and readying a hammer blow to knock you back down.

You hit the dirt pretty hard. Forcing yourself back up, you narrowly avoid one more of his blows. Sparks build up around your arms, and you dash to Vegeta. He tries to block, but gets a nasty surprise as you strike his left arm with an electrified punch, leaving it numb. You aim for his eyes next, Vegeta again blocking but with his right arm ending up numb afterward. As he flinches from the attack, you land the final blow, a palm strike to his gut that knocks him on his back.

“R-rrgghh...”

“One for me.” you comment to him with a grin.

“And you’ll need a couple more to catch up. Can you?” Vegeta’s power starts to rise., his aura sparking. Well... crap, seems he’s gonna use Super Saiyan 2.

All right, if he’s ascending, then so are you! You’ve had the power longer, after all. Your hair spikes up more as you match Vegeta. Your sparking aura manages to mask the jolts of electricity coming off your arms as you and Vegeta dash at one another, with you getting a surprise in with the Machinegun Punch AND the Spirit Ball, keeping Vegeta stunned in addition to damaging him and then knocking him down to the ground, hard enough that he skips across it twice.

Vegeta smirks, charging up Ki in his hands, then letting out a barrage of energy blasts at you. You get an idea. “RAIO-KEN!” you yell out, bolting forward and deflecting many of the Ki blasts he fires out. You get up close and Vegeta seems prepared for this, forming a spinning sphere of energy in his hand and trying to smash it into your face. But you feinted it, getting right behind him and holding your hands out. “DOUBLE GEIST MAGNUM!”

“YEAGH!” Vegeta yells out as you hit him right in the spine, kicking him down to the ground.

“Think we’re even now, Vegeta.” Lowly, you add, “Also, pretty sure that one you just tried is Sachie’s technique.”
“Getting smart now, are you, boy?” Vegeta gets back up. He seems to focus himself more, taking a defensive stance one more time. “So, not going all out just yet?”

“I could ask the same of you.” you reply, readying yourself once more. “But if I were to guess, it’s because you’ve got something else up your sleeves.”

There’s... a brief, but genuine smile on his face. “So you do know not to tip your hand so readily. You have improved since the Tournament.”

Your body sparking up with power, you dash at Vegeta, but swerve away at the last minute, leaving an afterimage with juuuust a bit of Ki in it so when Vegeta strikes it, the afterimage detonates and knocks him off-balance. But, it’s not enough to knock him down completely, and he quickly gets wise to what you’re doing. Vegeta yells and thrusts his arms out, letting out a powerful Explosive Wave that does manage to knock you down.

But you get right back up on your feet, the combination of sparks from both Raio-ken and Super Saiyan 2 making you look like a tiny thunderstorm as you bolt around Vegeta again, increasing your speed further and further. He raises his left hand up, a pair of fingers pointing out. Vegeta then lets out five ring-shaped energy blasts... but all of them hit your afterimages, causing them to explode around him and actually knock him down.

Finally, got him where you want him! “SHINE... SPAAAAARRRRK!” Blasting right at Vegeta, you tackle into him and knock him down one last time. As Vegeta lays on the ground, you step back, panting a little. Whew, close one...

“Hmnh.” Vegeta grunts out, pushing himself up. “So you did it after all.”

“So, how was that? Got up to five.” you comment with a proud grin.

“You did. Without relying on your strength alone, I might add.” Vegeta stands, dusting himself off. “We were evenly matched. You could have pushed yourself harder, used that Super Saiyan 3 of yours to overpower me. Of course, that presumes I give you enough time to do it. Or, I don’t take the time to transform on my own.”

“I... guess that’s true.” you rub the back of your neck. “I’d probably finish transforming before you, though.”

“A chance you didn’t take. Because you wouldn’t be able to manage it if I succeeded.” Vegeta responds as if it’s a true statement. Well like, you might not have, but- ...nevermind, he’s got a point he wants to make. “If you do continue training with Super Saiyan 3, keep in mind what caused you to claim victory here today: Speed.”

“...Wait, were you planning on this?” you ask. That... huh. Vegeta was actually helping you?

“You do have that in common with your mother.” Vegeta admits, though he clearly doesn’t like to admit it. “But you seem to already be on your path to make it your own.” He turns to his son. “Baozi! You saw how strong Gohan was just now, yes?”

“Uh-huh!” The boy nods enthusiastically.

“You keep up your training, and some day you too will reach that level. And then you’ll surpass it. A true Saiyan has no limits.”

The boy grins wide. “Okay, dad! I will! ”

“No they weren’t.” Shao calls out to him, squinting. “Vegeta, come on.”

“Was it about Baozi?” you fly closer to Shao, asking her quietly.

“Nooo, he’s been trying to test some of Tien’s techniques. A few aren’t working as well as he wanted them to.” she whispers back.

“Hey!” Vegeta grunts louder.

As you arrive at the Crane School Dojo, though, you notice a number of people around one of the buildings there. Seems to be a bit of commotion going on. Keli waves to Shao, motioning for her to come closer. She looks to Vegeta with a not at all happy expression on her face. “So, mind telling your boyfriend not to keep trying to break the Gravity Chamber?”

“Wha? What’s wrong with it?”

“It’s on the fritz. Master Tien’s trying to get in contact with Bulma, but no luck yet.”

“And you just assume that it’s me who broke it.” Vegeta remarks dryly.

“You WERE the last one in there.” Keli accuses.

“Wait, Bulma’s not answering? What about Yamcha? Or, well... anyone at Capsule Corp, really?”

“Master Tien is trying to get in contact with him too. No idea what’s up with that. Point is, the Gravity Chamber is busted.” Keli repeats, still glaring at Vegeta.

“...Maybe I could give it a look?” you ask. That gets some surprised looks. “Hey, my mom and uncle helped invent the thing. What is wrong with it, exactly?”

“Gravity increases irregularly around the chamber. Some areas either end up too low, or too high, compared to others.” She motions to the door for you. “If you think you can fix it, by all means, give it a go.”

You move to the Chamber. Off, currently. You ask Keli where some of these irregular spots are, then, after mapping them out, make sure to check a few of the internals. Removing some panels and checking underneath, you notice several circuits are indeed fried slightly. Looks like too much stress has been put on them. “Good thing we caught this as quickly as we did, else this thing would end up warping and breaking. After that, well, it’ll look less like a chamber and more like a crumpled piece of paper.”

“Think you can fix it, then?” Shao asks you, Baozi and Daikon watching. Moreso out of curiosity than anything, they don’t quite get the technical aspects yet. Hmm... you might be able to replace some of the fried circuits, but whatever caused the stress might not be from repeated use, but instead a flaw in the chamber itself.

Briefly you consider contacting Bulma yourself, but then you get an idea. “...Maybe we don’t. Hey, Daikon, how’s Dr. Frappe doing these days?”

“That ol’ guy? Mom and uncle Eighter still have tea with him sometimes, but I dunno, doesn’t always look like he’s in the best condition. I think he’s turning like... 90 this year?”

“Is he still in the usual place though, down by Jingle Village?” you ask.

“I think so!” the boy responds.

“Who’s Dr. Frappe?” Baozi asks, leading to Daikon explaining it to him.

You yourself try to get in contact with him, sensing out the old man in his usual place. You’d been there a couple times before, Suno’s family having visited him for tea last you recall. He did seem a tad... eccentric. But hopefully he’s okay enough to give you some pointers. ‘Dr. Frappe? Hello, Dr. Frappe? Can you hear me?’

‘YAH! Oh no... oh no not again... you’re not pulling another fast one on me, Yuki-Onna! I’m on to your tricks you snow witch!’

‘...Do I SOUND like a girl?’ you ask him with mild annoyance.

‘Well now that you mention it you sound a bit like that Goku bo- OH. Oh it’s you my boy! ...When did you become a Yuki-Onna? And further, how? ...Do your parents know about this?’

You facepalm. ‘I’m not a Yuki-Onna.’

‘Are you sure? Because last time someone contacted me like this it was that snowy-’

‘I just. Have a science question. Please.’ You walk off, trying to focus. ‘See, we’ve got some issues with the Gravity Chamber down here in Mifan...’

After explaining what you’ve uncovered, he takes on a more serious (or at least, less... eccentric) tone. He believes that there could be some issues with calibration, that certain parts of the chamber are off by minute amounts... but those minute amounts can add up significantly when the Gravity is amplified to any significant degree. He recommends recalibrating the entire thing, alongside fixing the wires. Whiiiich could take a while. But you have something to go off of.

You give Bulma a check yourself... but you find that she isn’t over at Capsule Corp. Or... West City. Neither is Yamcha. Nor is... Launch? Now that is worrying. Where are they? And... why are you getting this eerie feeling from the place?

“I’ll do it.” Nappa states. Looking down at the kid. There’s a brief, almost nostalgic smile on his lips before he gives you a little nod. He then pats Daikon on the head. “Come on, I’ve got a number of storys about your pops that you’d like to hear, kid.”

That changes his mood entirely, and Daikon immediately starts to take to the air. Deeefinitely going to need to apologize to Suno later. Still, you take to the air and fly off, flying a little casually as you make your way there and making sure you’re not just imagining all of it. Still... getting an odd feeling. Like there’s something else in the area.

You reach Capsule Corp first, and immediately you notice something odd: mom’s camels aren’t there. Walking inside, you’re greeted by the service desk robot, though its voice seems... slightly off. You notice in the atrium a number of the animals stare at you awkwardly when you enter, then going back to their business. And... no sign of Bulma. Or Yamcha. Some of the employees are around, but... oh wait! There’s Bulma’s parents!

Marching up towards Dr. Briefs, you find him in his lab. “Hello sir! Sorry for bothering, but have you seen Bulma around recently? Tien’s been trying to contact her, issues with the Gravity Chamber.”

He stands up, a... strange smile on his face. His voice is... strange. And the cigarette in his mouth... is not even lit. “Ah... yes. Bulma is working on a project. Would you... like to see? It’s... in the basement.”

You still aren’t sensing her nearby.

Could... go along with this, but you don’t like where it’s headed at all. Definitely want to ask about Yamcha. But you need to get some distance. So, you play it cool. “Nah, that’s fine. Before you can make it out, Bulma’s mom walks towards you holding a tray full of glasses of lemonade. “Aww, leaving so soon? But you just got here and you must be thirsty.” She keeps walking closer, and you slow your pace not to catch anyone off-guard. “Please, I insist!”

“No thank you, but thanks for offering! I uh... gotta get going!” You pick up the pace again. She trails you. A... good deal faster than she should be able to. Crrraaaap. There! The door! ...Aaaand Baragon’s blocking your path. “Sorry! Sorry! In a bit of a rush!”

“But Gooooohaaaannnn! It’s your and Pantea’s faaaaaavorite!” the blonde lady calls out to you. She does sound a bit more normal than Dr. Briefs, but not in a way that seems reassuring to you. Also that’s a bit of a lie and you know it. Pantea’s favorite is mint lemonade peach tea.

Slipping past Baragon, literally, you give a friendly wave and start heading off. Okay, first thing’s first, contact mom! ...And mom’s asleep, you think. Baba next! Get... an odd feeling as you do, but it passes fairly quickly. ‘Hey, there’s something really ominous going down in West City. Have you had any ominous signs or anything recently?’

Annoyed and slightly grumpy that her apparent nap was interrupted, she takes on a more serious tone when you explain what you’ve seen. ‘Nothing around West City, but... wait. Wait a second. Getting some kind of strange, silvery image in my Crystal Ball. Gohan, I’ll have to contact you in a moment. I do not like the look of this. If you feel that anyone is in danger, go to their aid.’

Anyone in danger...? Uh-oh.

You keep walking, trying to not use too much energy, lowering your Ki. You contact Lapis and Chuu Lee first, letting them know you might need some help. Next, you get in contact with Trip. ‘Are you there, Kami? It’s me, Gohan.’

You hear her trying not to laugh. ‘Hello, Gohan. And... thank you for calling me that.’

‘Still okay to call you “Auntie Trip” though?’

‘Of course.’

You hurry along faster when you sense Baragon trailing you, ducking out of the way for a block. ‘Okay, real, real quick, there’s something worrying going down over in West City, Baba’s on the case and she’s noticed some strange silvery thing. You’ve got to have some insight to this, right?’

‘I have gotten a strange feeling... I will take a closer look. Stay safe.’

‘Okay. Please keep in contact.’ Ugh. You start heading in the direction of the movie studios. Feels like... Cocoa’s still there, okay. ‘Hey, Cocoa? You still around here? It’s Gohan.’

‘Oh, hey, what are you up to over here?’ she asks, apparently not aware of what’s been going on.

‘Look, I’ve been getting some really, really strange vibes here. Can’t sense Yamcha, or Bulma, or even Launch in this area. Has there been anything odd going on? Anything unusual?’

‘Oh, I do remember sensing Launch around earlier! She was headed to the baseball stadium, apparently there was a scuffle, couple fans started a brawl. I think Yamcha took care of them, Launch was just headed to gather them up.’

...Oh you do NOT like the sound of that. ‘How... many people were involved in the scuffle?’

‘Like, maybe 50 I think? It ended almost as quickly as it started.’ Cocoa seems to be recalling something as she thinks. ‘...Peppa and I saw some people setting out a nanomachine virus on one of the floating rocks during our... um. You know. P-point is! It ended up turning that into a rocket, and it was aimed at civilians. Peppa helped the Galactic Patrol stop it. Does any of this sound familiar to you?’

‘...Nanomachine virus. Ah. That... could be it. Cocoa, are you okay?’

‘Should be, I-’ She seems to gasp. ‘...One of the people involved in that riot’s heading through the street. I’m gonna keep my Ki low- ...aaand he’s headed this way.’

‘I’m on it!’ You dash away, telling Chuu Lee and Lapis about what’s going on along the way and asking for some help. They agree to it, and before long you see a tall man with dark skin and an afro heading to Cocoa’s place. You greet him casually. “Hey there, how’s it going? You lost, sir?”

He turns to face you. The man smirks... and his head twists awkwardly. “...Tuffle. Saiyan. There you are.”

NOPE. Quick Kiai sends him flying the moment he tries to bolt at you. Not enough to hurt him seriously, but enough to make sure he’s far, far away from here. You dash right to Cocoa’s home and frantically ring the doorbell. Her mother answers. “Oh, Gohan, hello, what-?”

“Hi! No time to explain! Cocoa still here? And where’s your husband?”

“H-he’s at work? And she is upstairs?” she replies awkwardly, in a way that makes it clear she wants to know why you’re asking.

“We need to get going then! Bad things going down! Please hurry!”

Cocoa herself is has already dashed downstairs with a bag on her arm. “Come on mom, let’s go!”

“W-wait I just set the chicken out to defrost and-”

“NO TIME!” you and Cocoa tell her simultaneously, Cocoa taking her mother by the hand and heading out. You make it halfway across the block when a familiar voice calls to you.

“Hey there, kiddo!” Oh no. You turn your head slowly. “Heard you were looking for me and Bulma. In a rush to leave already?” Yamcha asks of you. His eyes... seem oddly fierce.

Just then, Lapis and Chuu Lee teleport in. “Yeah. They all are. Heeey Yamcha, buddy, how’s it going?” Lapis asks.

Yamcha starts walking towards him. “Oh, you know. Catch the game? There was a real riot going on. Some crazy fan didn’t like the way I was batting.”

“Is that so? Well, nobody got hurt?”

Yamcha rubs the scar on his face. “Just a scratch.”

Cocoa’s eyes go wide. “We need to go now. We need to go NOW!”

Chuu Lee places her hands on your and Cocoa’s heads before anyone has a chance to say another word and teleports away. You arrive at... oh hey, it’s her place. And... there’s a kid in the... oh! OH! “Hey Tommy, I’m back. Lapis will be back soon too. And I got some friends. I think you already know one of them.” She pats you on the shoulder as Cocoa’s mother seems like she’s just going to roll with what’s going on and hope for an explanation later.

“Hey Tommy!” you greet the boy happily. He certainly looks less ragged, now wearing some blue shorts and a matching vest over a tan shirt, the cap you saw him with cleaned, and even his hair looks to be done up a bit nicer. He almost bolts over to you to give you a hug.

“Gohan!” he exclaims, looking... well, not LOOKING up, but turning his head up. “Gohan, haha!”

“Hey, you look like you’re doing well.” you tell the kid.

“Uh-huh!”

“I need a bit to talk with everyone though. We’ve got some things that could go from bad to worse pretty easily.” Tommy lets you go, Cocoa’s mom spotting Chuu Lee’s and the two starting to converse. Chuu Lee herself sets herself down and rubs her forehead, Cocoa looking at you nervously. “So. Baseball game, huh? About 50 or so people, and Launch arrested some of them?”

“So far as I know.”

“And you and Peppa encountered some kind of nanomachine virus, right? Can you give some other details?”

She nods. “Peppa’d been dealing with similar things before. Infected a lot of aliens, turned some into these... terrible monsters.” She sighs. “And... looks like Mr. Yamcha’s been infected with some. I think. So, maybe 50 people to start with... including him. And... Officer Launch.”

“Likely all of Capsule Corp. at this point, and who knows how many other people... what did Peppa do to stop them?”

“She and the Galactic Patrol ended up destroying the nanomachine missile, and the Patrolmen arrested those involved. Oh! It also could infect animals, I think. There was this weird cow... deer... thing we saw interacting with those who made the missile. Was really shifty.”

Great. Greeaaaat. “Hey, Mrs. Amaguri? Where does your husband work?”

“ZZTV, dear.” she responds, herself and Chuu Lee’s mother already busy boiling some tea and chatting. The tone turns serious when she realizes why you asked. “...Oh. That... that’s nowhere near the stadium, or the police station though.”

Chuu Lee looks to you. “We could try and find him, but we need to be smart about this. We have no idea how many people are infected at the moment.”

Cocoa sighs. “This is like The Thing, but a million times worse.” You look back at her mother. Your eyes squint. Sure she might remember it, but you haven’t exactly been near them a lot. And that guy WAS going after Cocoa even with her Ki suppressed. Maybe- “Gohan. Whatever you’re thinking? No.”

“A simple blood test could-”

“No.” she repeats, clearly annoyed.

“Mrs. Amaguri, Cocoa, we’re gonna head out to ZZTV. We need to be there and out quick, though.”

Cocoa nods. “I can help sense him out.” You and Chuu Lee stand by her, placing your hands on her shoulders as she focuses. It takes a minute, but eventually she manages to find him. With Chuu Lee placing her fingers on her forehead, the three of you spot him and three other coworkers having made a barricade of office chairs, desks, and even what look to be some stage lights as they’re hounded by a number of people with very, very vicious looks on their faces.

“COME ON, THIS IS WHAT WE TRAINED FOR EVER SINCE KBC STARTED THEIR REALITY TV SLOT!” a man yells out as he knocks away one attackers with a microphone stand. Cocoa’s dad. “YOU ALL KNEW IT WAS COMING!”

“MILO NOW IS -NOT- THE TIME FOR ‘I TOLD YOU SO’S!” a fox lady screams out.

“D-dad?” Cocoa mumbles out.

He stops, and suddenly the attention of the attackers turns from them to the three of you. The manic grins on their faces become manic laughter as they dash at you and Chuu Lee. You dash into the middle of them all and let out a powerful Kiai to knock them all away. Chuu Lee and Cocoa make it to the group, Milo, the fox lady in office attire, an orange gorilla man in green overalls, and a lady with somewhat messy short blonde hair in tan pants and a red shirt with a long-sleeved black shirt underneath. She quickly tells them all to grab on.

“Sorry, can’t stay for long! We’ll catch the 11 o’ clock show!” you remark, placing your hand on Chuu Lee’s shoulder, then giving a wave as you all teleport out of there.

You all appear outside her house, startling a little yellow bird that seemed to be waiting on the house’s porch. It then flies back, landing on Chuu Lee’s shoulder and nuzzling against her cheek. “Sorry for spookin’ ya. Everyone okay? Nobody feeling like attacking and infecting others with some kind of alien plague?”

There are some groans and mumbles, but looks like most of them are fine. Whew. “One word. One word about that damn slot, Milo, and I will strangle you.” the fox lady growls at him.

Cocoa’s mom peeks her head out the door. “Ah, good. We have enough tea for everyone.”

“Kafee!” the man yells excitedly and runs to hug her, the two sharing a kiss.

Cocoa pinches the ridge of her nose. “Can we not. Right now. Please. Pleeeaaasse.”

“All right, we’ve got them rescued. Now we need to get to something more important, getting a list of everyone that’s NOT infected. Contact everyone we can, start getting a list of people still with us.”

“I’ll do that. I’ll teleport around so they can’t get a good lock on us. Be back in a bit.” Chuu Lee tells you, motioning for everyone to head inside. As you do, you see that her mother and Cocoa’s mom have indeed made enough tea for the coworkers you managed to snag along, Tommy sitting by you and chatting for a bit. You both catch up a little, but realize that maybe someone should try to contact King Kai. You try to work a few puns into your conversation with Tommy, and while it makes the boy laugh, you get no reaction from King Kai. Damn.

Chuu Lee returns, her body shaking. “Th-the only ones still with us are Chi-chi, Acer, Izumi, Krillin, Lazuli, their daughter, Tien, Vegeta, his son, a couple of the Crane School students, and Goku.”

Chuu Lee clenches her fists. “He... he locked on to me a moment ago. He’s out cold, but won’t be for long. We... we need to be ready to go the moment he’s up.”

“What about Yurin?” you ask. Tommy giggles when he hears the lady’s name.

“I-I don’t know for sure. I can’t really sense out anyone in that place, but if it’s because of this, or because of there, it’s not for certain.” Chuu Lee shakes her head.

“...Mr. Acer has a student training with him, Monty. Might he be there? And I believe Lime is with Izumi.” Cocoa pipes in. “And Gohan, those friends you and she made during the Tournament. Aren’t they still here?”

Zarid. Crap, please... You contact him immediately, finding him at Yahhoy. ‘Zarid, you’re with Sachie right now, aren’t you?’

‘Gohan, oh thank God. We need were jumped by these random people that just keep repeating ‘High Power’ over and over.’

‘Have any of them gotten any injuries on either of you?’ Good news, bad news.

‘No, but they just keep coming!’

“I’ll do my best.” You sense out Sachie and Zarid again, Chuu Lee placing her hand on your shoulder as you get a lock. Once it’s there, you share with her where exactly they are and teleport right to them.

“Gohan!” Zarid calls out to you, letting out a Kiai that forces back some of the attackers.

“HEY! OVER HERE, YOU WANNABE ZOMBIES!” you yell out to the horde, flying up over them. Well, that gets their attention, and gives Chuu Lee the chance she needs to get to the pair. Your tail slaps your butt as you tease the group. “COME ON, YOU’RE LOOKING FOR ME AREN’T YA? WELL HERE I AM!”

Certainly caught their attention. But you end up going a little too far, too fast, and you get caught by surprise by... a Dodonpa that hits your arm. You fall to the ground, and immediately you’re piled on by a number of the infected. You let out a weak Explosive Wave to knock them away. You feel a numbness in the arm you were hit. You look at where the Dodonpa was fired from. Wait... Bisa? Wasn’t he in-

Oh. Oh you get it now. “...Oh no. You too huh? Well, finally got to become a vessel to some powerful force. Just like you wanted. Lot of good that’s doing now, isn’t it? Or are my words not even reaching Bisa?”

Oh. He wants you to come along? You’ll come along all right. “CHUU LEE, GET OUT OF HERE! NOW!”

“GOHAN DON’T-!”

“NOOOOOW!” you scream, powering up into Super Saiyan and tackling Baby. You bolt right outside the city limits, using the Raio-ken to fly faster and faster. Baby laughs like a maniac. Your arm feels numb again, and twitches, your grip on the machine loosening.

“Now that wasn’t smart.” Baby remarks.

“Neither was showing yourself in the open.” With your good arm, you fling Baby into a cliff and raise your hand into the air. “I’m ending this right here, right now!” Flames erupt from your hand and your aura sparks, your hair standing higher. “BURNING... CRUSHER!” You grip Baby’s chest hard and lift him into the air. “HEAT... END! ...KAMEHAMEHA!”

You rip through the body of the machine into pieces, silvery fluid dripping from its now bisected torso. Baby... keeps laughing. “Now w-what exactly... do you think that accomplished?”

“Keeping you away from my friends.” You feel your injured arm get number. “And putting a dent in your plans.”

But until then I-”

“YOU WON’T... GET AWAY WITH THIS!” you scream out, regaining control for a brief moment and trying to force Baby out through sheer force of will, powering up again. “I knew my time was limited the moment my arm started to feel numb, and I will NOT let you get away with this! Even if... even if it...”

“What are our options?” you ask quickly, before Baby manages to gain control once more.

“Your options are to wait here for my servants to remove this RIDICULOUS paper from my head at once and die slowly, or submit to the superior life form’s will and do it yourselves.”

Yurin paces around worriedly. “If... if we could get this thing out of you, seal it away, we’d be home free. But I doubt any magics I’ve managed up to now could really accomplish such a thing. Maybe we could get Gohan somewhere where the connection it has with all other infected individuals would be diminished, but that’s just moving the problem away... could be a way to purify this. Like with the Black Water Mist...”

“Lookout’s been compromised. Something took Trip, Popo, and even Mr. Piccolo out. Baby, what did you do with them?” you ask aloud.

“They were... uncooperative. Let’s just say I had one of my servants sneak up, lock them up and throw away the key.” he responds, with a vile chuckle. “They will spend an eternity locked away. Soon enough I will take all I can from that place, but first... the matter of you comes first, Gohan.”
