Your name is Chris Connors and you want to go back to sleep.

A week ago you had a life as normal as it can get with an abusive redneck father, but then your sister Cam messed up and was about to get mutilated. You also found out that your dad has mind-control super powers, so naturally the two of you developed super powers of your own and you killed him.

No, none of these things is natural. Neither breaking the laws of the land nor the laws of physics. People aren’t supposed to be able to control others with their mind, like in your sisters case, go invisible at will or, in your case, heal others by taking the wound onto themselves.

You bounced around from the police, hospital, and child protective services to a foster family, the Millers where Cam couldn’t hold it in so your new foster sister Angela (or just ‘Angie’) noticed your powers. She later confronted you about it, probably not expecting that the thing she saw was actually true, but when you confirmed it, and Cam gave a demonstration of her powers, Angie freaked out.

She wasn’t the only one to have an existential crisis at that, because since the past few days where rather stressful, when you finally got to a state of rest, you were freaking out as well. Super powers are not supposed to exist! Are you actually an alien? You don’t know. Is it magic? Magic is not supposed to exist either!

You still managed to calm Angie down and roughly explain your powers to her, and while it wasn’t easy, she also entrusted yourself with her own tragic backstory, how she got to be in the foster system and gave you a faint idea of how she got her scars.

Your first day at the Millers ended at least on a note that you can claim you want to stay with them. And Cam has not said anything against it either, so you count that as a success.

Tuesday, March 13th, 2001, something after 7:00am

You’re almost drifting back to sleep. At six sharp you had been woken up by Samantha, got fed awesome pancakes with fruits and cream, forced to take a shower, got dressed, and then placed in the car. Now you’re standing still while a snobby guy takes your measurements.

You keep your head from bobbing down and force your eyes wide open to not seem as tired as you actually were, but probably to no avail. Somewhere you also know that your appearance was extremely rude. First asking that guy to keep open longer the day before and then falling asleep in his shop the very next day, and then asking him to hurry up your order.

You don’t know for how long you stood in a T-position, but it has been too long. By now you guess your arms were supposed to have started feeling heavy, but they don’t. Do you just heal away the hurt? Whatever even causes arms to hurt when lifted for a long time... You don’t even know if that can be considered something to be healed. Argh... your brain won’t kick into gear properly.

And a little while later you were supposed to pick out a suit for yourself. Something something American, English and Italian suit styles, and your natural size, but slouching shoulders and lack of mass. You just went along with Samantha’s suggestion and got yourself a suit with very discreet pinstripes. It didn’t even feel that awkward to move about in as you thought, and that’s while it hadn’t even been adjusted to your measurements.
>>
Once you leave the shop, Samantha softly slaps your chest. “That was embarrassing, Christopher. Really, what are you thinking.”
“Sorry. I-” You let out a yawn, now no longer having to suppress it.
“Cover your mouth, too!”
“Sorry... sorry.” You quickly cover your mouth, but it had been too late. “I’m just tired.”
“You don’t have to apologize to me. You ruin your own networking opportunities like that, and as we are the ones who referred you we have a sort of responsibility for you too, on whom we can refer in the future.”

Is that what having a mother feels like? Someone who gets you to feel ashamed of yourself?

“Sorry”, you say once more.
“And you knew you had an appointment, Chris. If I had known you have such a hard time getting out of bed and ready – well, usable – I would have set my alarm earlier.”
“Sorry” One last time.
She crosses her arms and taps on her elbow impatiently, not happy with your responses. “Well, are you awake now?”
You yawn again, covering your mouth this time. “It’s easier when I don’t have to stand still.”
“Good, because there are still things on the agenda for this morning. You need more clothes, for PE too. Do you have trainers and swimgear? PE at Amberstone is at the pool once a month at least, I believe...”

Samantha goes on to list of stuff that you need and you slightly tune her out until something else arises. “And you’ll be needing a haircut, you look disheveled.”

You look up to see your bangs. It’s true that you’ve not put that much into your hair care, but you don’t think it’s that bad. Sure, your hair gets curly when it reaches a certain length, and that has already come to pass, but you kinda like it too.

How would you like it?

You spend the entire morning shopping with Samantha and have gained a truly impressive amount of bags, even had to return to the car to store it twice. Clothes for you and Cam, bought, pretty much in bulk. Apparently she had gone through Cam’s clothes and asked her which ones fit her the best and had now pretty much bought them blindly.

You can’t fathom how much money she spend and your butt cheeks clench each time she simply pays per credit card. Conditioning through mind-control or not, you don’t think anyone should be comfortable with such generosity, but she wouldn’t hear any complaints or accept an apology for you ruining their planned world trip.

Eventually you find yourself in a hair dressers seat though and had to listen to Samantha networking with the coiffeur from whom you get a little bit of a gay vibe. Not a massive gay vibe, like male hair dressers are often depicted in movies, but a... kinda free spirited.

“And you, Christopher, you look positively exhausted. Pretty much all your chakra are closing off, but you are in luck!” He interrupts cutting your hair for a moment to retrieve something. “Here. I was told I should give it to the most needy soul I would meet today, and I think I do not have to wait the rest of the day.”

You kinda feel insulted, and your ‘we don’t take hand-outs’ is ringing, but you still take the card. It’s a coupon for a massage at the Rose Petal. A ‘spirit healing’ massage, which catches your interest. While you don’t really believe in chakras or spirits, you also didn’t believe that people could go invisible a week ago. And healing would fall right into your domain. But something else strikes you about the card. It has written ‘to C.’ on it.

“To C?”, you read out loud in form of a question.

“Your name is Christopher, is it not?” He chuckles. “Coincidence or faith? Or maybe just the reason why I immediately knew that I have to give it to you.”

C is not that weird of a starting letter, is it? Charles, all the versions of Chris, Charlotte, Chloe... Carlos. You’re done thinking of names, but you don’t think it’s that uncommon. All these future telling things just work with some tricks, this... doesn’t mean anything, does it?

“A massage coupon”, Samantha states, having read the card from the side. “Why, I think that would be a great opportunity, would it not? You are rather tense and you do have a big day ahead of you. Do you think it would help you relax?”

>Take the opportunity and let yourself be kneeded.
>Go there, especially since there may be magicy stuff going on.

You keep looking at the card, tilting it around a little and let the light hit it correctly. Only a heart shaped rose petal on it was reflective, which was cool, but also kinda weird, wasn’t it?

“What are you looking at?”, Samantha asks and you give her the card.
“The heart”, you explain.
“The heart?”, she asks and takes a closer look at it too, “Oh, yes, that’s quite pretty, isn’t it?

Similar to you she moves it around to look at the shimmering heart while the hair dresser gets properly back to business again. Since not a lot has to be trimmed away you are soon done and free to go again.

“I have my concerns about the production cost of this card”, Samantha comments on the card again as she gives it back to you. “I have seen a number of business cards, and having a coat can get rather expensive, but I can’t imagine the cost of only coating a single petal like that. Business cards at least can become more cost effective when ordered in bulk, but I don’t imagine many coupons are handed out that often.”

“So... it’s like super exclusive...” You follow your train of thought. “But still trying to get new customers through coupons?”
“It seems invite only. It’s not as if you have gotten the coupon out of a newspaper.”
“Yeah, but... he was told to give it to someone ‘needy’”, you say, “Is that really the kind of customer you want in your exclusive club?”
Samantha frowns, not having a good answer to the question. “Well, you will have to ask them if you want to, no?”
“Mhm...” You think for a moment and pick up on another issue. “Is it not rude to just take the free stuff and then not buy anything?”
“Maybe so, but if you consider it an advertisement gift then they may win you over for something if you like their service. It’s not like asking for a sample of ice cream and then leaving the shop.”
“But if I’ll not take anything else, is that not equivalent to saying that I didn’t like the service?”
Samantha smiles. “If only you had shown that maturity this morning.”
“I was tired!”, you defend yourself.
>>
She takes on a weird expression, halfway between a frown and smirk. “Well, Chris. Here is my advice. Go take the massage, let yourself be ‘healed’, and if it is an exclusive club and you liked what they had to offer, use it to network a little for yourself, okay?”

You don’t know what you’d network for yourself in a massage salon, but... “Sure.”
“You don’t sound so ‘sure’, having worries?”
“No, it’s not that. Well, maybe, yeah. I don’t know the first thing about networking.”
Samantha giggles a little. “Oh, it’s easy. Your first time somewhere, just be nice and polite to everyone. Make yourself known to be honest and dependable.”
“I see...”
“You are honest and dependable, are you not?”
You shrug. “I guess?”
She frowns again. “Value yourself a little more. I for one believe I can trust you.”
“Thanks?”
“How would you like to spend the rest of the day?”
You shrug and lift up the card again.
“How about I let you explore the city a little? Get a feel for it. And in case something happens, you know our number, right?”
“Uhh... yes.”
“Tell it to me”, she commands.
You frown and do as she said.
“Don’t give me that look, I only want to look out for you.”
“Sorry.”
“Do you even want to be on your own now? Or would you rather come back home, maybe catch up on that sleep I robbed you of?”

The first two times you asked someone where the nearest hospital is the asked person barely looked at you and kept walking, only on your third try do you actually get a decent enough person, even though he didn’t hide the fact how very annoying you were for having the guts to bother him. Big cities, yay.

Maybe you’re lucky that you’re used to talking to nobody so you don’t even feel weird about not greeting anyone. No, not just that. You don’t have to pretend that the other people on the street even exist. Yeah, that seems to be the way that it’s done.

Usually when you walk around you gauge people on whether or not they could be trouble, or cause trouble if you behave in an incorrect way.

You don’t think that the city doesn’t have people like Wayne, but it’s kinda unlikely for someone to drive up to you with his gang on bicycles. In the city it’s unlikely that you run into someone you know. Generally speaking, of course. The chances that you specifically run into someone you know are astronomical.

You reach the hospital without any occurrences and now have to decide your approach. Can you just walk in, or is there some sort of security keeping unwanted visitors out?

>The key to trespass is to pretend that you do nothing wrong and simply walk in.
>Head around to the carpool where people in ambulances will arrive at.

You walk into the cafe and take a look around. There was not really much to see at this hour. Mostly older women, one guy with a laptop, and, indeed, one family with the father hooked up to an IV. You can’t really see what kind of injury he has, but you sit yourself down before reaching out to him and sync up.

He doesn’t feel injured. Or at least he is not in any pain...

What you’d have to do is feel through his entire body to find something you feel out of place, but you don’t know if it’s worth it. The more you concentrate on a single person, the less people you can heal. And you don’t know where to start.

You opt not to waste your energy to heal something that you don’t even know what to look for. On top of that he doesn’t look to be very sick, but that may just be your perception.

The cafe may have been a bust, so it’s may be time to test what actual range you can achieve. You know that walls don’t really affect it, but distance does. So you concentrate again and reach out...

Right... that sense of yours is not exactly giving you direction. Distance is the only real thing your sense has to do with space, and that only by getting weaker. You don’t have a means to pick a direction to reach out to so it’s simply every direction at once. So far you’ve done it at random or to people close by for whom you have already indicators like gender and age, stuff you’ve already learned to notice by only brushing by people with your powers without syncing up to them.

You close your eyes and concentrate how far you can reach without actually syncing up with anyone. This is hard, like, really hard. Every inch you gain there are more people. That’s the downside of a big city, there are simply people everywhere. Yeah, no, the cafe was a bust, you need to get closer to the hospital if you want to heal anyone there.

“Good morning, what’ll it be?”

“Gnah?”

You snap out of it, open your eyes back up and look up to the waitress, taking a moment to realize that she’s asking you to order. Which would be the normal behaviour when sitting down in a cafe.

She frowns and tilts her head slightly. “Shouldn’t you be at school?”

“So new in town?”, she asks when coming back with it and pouring you a cup.
“Yeah... what you usually are when you move.”
“Just making conversation, and you could have moved from one part to the other.”
“I guess...”

Networking. Just be polite and stuff. You don’t think that’s what you’re doing just now.

“Sorry, I just- was exploring the city and needed a break. What about you? Been in the city long?”
“Born and raised.”

“Well, for one, a Radio Shack? Some media equipment stuff, my... sister kinda outdoes me on that one.”
“A Radio Shack?” She frowns slightly but thinks. “There’s one in the mall just a few blocks-” she begins to give you directions but you nod and interrupt her.
“Oh, yeah... I know the mall. Makes sense that there’s one in that huge thing... I seriously still have to get used to the sheer size of everything.”
The waitress just shrugs.
“So, what can you do for fun.”
“Depends on your definition of fun.”
“Right... So maybe... Laser Tag?”

She laughs. “Laser Tag? Sure... Coincidentally I know of uhh... the Globnar Lazer Arena? I’m not sure about the first word, Glob-something, but the Laser is written with a ‘Z’. I don’t know where it is though. But, hey, if you’re into such nerdy stuff, I know of an escape room.”

The waitress gives you a rough explanation what an escape room is and its location, figuring that some of the ‘nerds’ there would know where the Laser Tag Arena is as well. You also get locations for a park and library, but unfortunately she then had to get back to work. You thank her as she leaves and take another sip of your coffee before turning back to business again.

You sync up with the guy with the IV and begin to search around. First you check his chest, starting with the heart, but find nothing. Next up are the lungs... oh shit.

Oh shit. He’s already missing one half and the other is... bad. If you had to put a diagnosis you’d say heavy smoker, but he’s too young to have that level of deterioration... Maybe he worked at some chemical plant and there was an accident? At least you know what the scars where you felt earlier, they were older so you didn’t pay them much attention. But it seems one lung was removed at an earlier point.

There are 5 lung lobes, 2 in the left and 3 on the right. The left ones were completely gone and the 3 on the right are severely damaged. You believe you can regrow missing parts, but you don’t know if you can repair this kind of damage on the still existing lung lobes.

Check all you want to do:
>[ ]regrow the upper left lobe
>[ ]regrow the lower left lobe
>[ ]heal the upper right lobe
>[ ]heal the middle right lobe

Here's an additional idea.

Chris gets a cook job at the cafe to earn some money while studying, score points with David (unless he believes kids should be completely focused on college), heal people low-key and practice his powers.

Superman police comes and takes him away.
>>
>>3755815
yeah, let's not get a job just yet, we need those good grades for med school
>>
One of each...

God, you hope this works, otherwise you’ll lose parts of both your lungs and can’t regrow either. You close your eyes again and concentrate...

The transition goes over instantly and you start coughing.

Shit, that hurts.

You won’t stop coughing and fail to get air. And what you are coughing up is blood. Damnit. You grab some of the napkins and quickly cover your mouth.

When the waitress approaches you again you suppress your coughing and give her a small wave as if signaling that you’re okay. Just suppress it... wait until your healing power kicks in enough for you to be okay again... if it does.

But seconds tick by with you not even daring to take a breath. Is this how you die? No, get yourself together. You have healing powers! You’re not gonna die by... suffocation... or drowning because what’s left of your lungs fill themselves with blood.

You grab some more napkins and run to- “Where’s the toilet?”, you press out to the waitress who quickly points you in the right direction.

Once out of sight you cough to your hearts content... or rather from your lungs contents.

It takes you quite some time for your lungs to be free again, and then some to catch your breath.

You soiled quite a lot of napkins and toilet paper... Into the toilet they go.

Ouch, that wasn’t a pleasant experience. While you think your lungs have regenerated, you really think you got close to suffocating there. Like... actually dieing.

You wipe the tears, snot and blood of your face with a paper towel once you leave your stall and look at yourself in the mirror. To be honest, you look horrible, but at least you’re alive. Which is actually a low bar to set.

Turning on the water you collect some to splash into your face. What a horrible experience. But now you know you’ll get through with it.

Going back into your stall, you crouch down before the toilet. This time you’ll let yourself cough as much as you need to. Ahh... this is gonna suck... again. You sync with the man outside in the cafe again and get him a complete lung.

While you’re having your coughing fit you hear someone enter the bathroom. “Hey, are you okay in there?”

“Peachy”, you answer, and suppress the coughs a bit. The pain had died down already, so your lung was back in working order, you only need to get the blood out now.

“Look, I don’t mean to pry, but... I saw the blood, and with the coughing... You know my lung is the reason why I’m across the street too.”

Shit. You helped him and now he wants to help you when there’s actually nothing he could do for you since... there is nothing wrong with you. And also ‘Shit’ because you coughed blood on the table and someone saw it.

Come up with something quick!
“I bit my tongue!”, you exclaim, your voice cracking in between. “Then I seriously swallowed up, yeah, and, like, the coffee’s hot, so I choked even harder and my body was like ‘whaaaaaat are you doing to me?’, you see?” You open up the bathroom stall and look him in the eyes, making sure you don’t blink so no more tears are pressed out. “I bit off my tongue, chocked on coffee, and like... I’m ok. I’m ok now.”

The man blinks at you, confused by your words, even taking a step back. But similarly to Samantha yesterday he shrugs and takes your word for it. “If you say so, I understand.” He then shrugs and leaves again. Most likely thinking that you are, in fact, super sick, but don’t want to talk about it.

That was bad... but it served it’s purpose. So after coughing a few more times in the sink and cleaning yourself off you leave, quickly drink your coffee, pay and leave, not wanting to spend much more time in the cafe.

And you doubt that another coffee would have helped with the headache you just got yourself. You should really listen to yourself and take more time in between syncing-sessions like you told yourself to do.

It’s just before noon, and maybe you should not show up to the massage place when they may or may not be on lunch break.

There’s no way you need 15 bucks to get something to eat. What’s the cheapest and easiest thing you can find around? McDonalds? Nah. You just go to one of the food stands and get a corndog and a can of soda.

>New immediately available finances: 223,53$

You’re back where you started though, and it’s about noon. You actually don’t know if a school is nearby and if students come here for their lunch break. Could be, could not be, you don’t know. But in reality you have no idea what to do. You don’t really want to buy a lot of stuff since you’ll have to carry it around then for the rest of the day. Not to mention that you wouldn’t know what to shop for.

Your feet carry you to the mall’s map to see if anything stands out. And indeed it does. A comic book store. You don’t know much about superhero stuff except from cartoons and movies. Maybe they could... you don’t even know. Buy comics to see if anything has real world applications? Talk to the people there? But about what?

Comic book store sounds good. It goes by the name of Vanaheimr, which you think is some place from norse mythology, if your memory serves you right. But since your headache is once again on the fritz, you can’t be sure.

You make your way to the second floor and enter the shop. Never having been in a comic book store before you take in the scenery. The first impression you get is like a record store. Rows upon rows of comic books are shelves specialized to hold them.

Idly looking over the displays you approach the counter and the goth looking guy behind it. Monochromatic clothing choice and even though he has a snake tattoo on his neck he doesn’t actually look dangerous. He had a scrawny build, kinda like you, but at least you were tall.

“Wha‘sup?”, you greet him with a nod.
He puts his comic book aside and gives you a nod back. “Welcome to Vanaheimr, how can I help you?”
“Got any books where... the hero can turn invisible?”
He raises an eyebrow. “Anything more specific?”
“Uhm...”
“Have you read comics before?”, he asks.
“Not really.”

He scratches his head and things for a moment before standing up and walking around the counter. “Sue Storm of the Fantastic Four is literally the Invisible Woman, you know?”

“Yeah, but she has other stuff going on too, right? Like force field stuff.”
“What exactly is it that you’re looking for?”
“Just... a hero whose only power is... invisibility.”
“You know that’s more of a villain power, right?”
“That’s exactly what I want to disprove.”
“Why?”

He doesn’t seem annoyed by you, quite the opposite. He was intrigued. But you may not have a very good way to answer him.

“Uhh... I mean she hides really well and then-” You realize that yourline of argumentation is weak. “-watches.” He merely frowns so you continue. So maybe just roll with it. “I just want to show her that those powers can be used for good.”

“She doesn’t actually go invisible, does she?” He was clearly amused. “Look, dude, I can recommend you a comic book, but I can’t give you not life advice like that.”

You sigh. “Just... is there any hero like that or not?”

“A prankster voyeur turned hero? I- I don’t think so, dude. Invisibility is like an utility power. Those who have it usually have other stuff going for them as well. I can look and ask around. I like comics but I mostly just sell, I’m not an encyclopedia.”

While the coupon didn’t say anything about how long it lasts, you might as well use it up sooner rather than later. Now you have all the time you need, something that will change the coming days, and especially once you’re in school again.

You stay a little longer, idly going through some comics, feigning interest, before saying goodbye to the guy and leaving the shop.

The Rose Petal is not in the mall itself, but the upper floors. Not like the suit store on the ‘exclusive business’ floor, but even further up with the offices. It was a place you can’t even reach with the regular elevators, so you had to look around for the entrance a bit.

You walk down the hallway leading to it where most doors had their company logo on plaques next to the door in appropriate sizes. Offices for bigger stores downstairs, a marketing company, one for IT something-something.

A little further down you see the Rose Petal Logo, the shimmering heart shaped petal with stylized text like from the coupon. But when you try to open the door, it was locked. Since there was no sign on when they are open or closed you do the only thing left to do, ringing the doorbell.

Soon thereafter you hear a buzzer and open the door to step inside. Inside it looks... very Asian.

And it was an Asian woman with greying hair that greets you from behind the counter with a curtsy. “Welcome to the Rose Petal, young man.” Her accent just thick enough for you to still understand her, but that could also be because you expected that sort of greeting from her.

“Uhm... Hello.” You give her a small bow in return and look around the place a bit more.

The waiting area was a literal sandbox with... sand raked in a pattern. Just before it was a shoe rack and a fountain with towels.

The receptionist looks at you, patiently waiting for what you might have to say.

“Right.” You pull out the coupon and show it to her. “I got this coupon today.”

“Ah yes.” She nods a few times and puts both her palms out for you. “The lady has predicted your arrival to be a little later today. Ah, but such are the strings of fate, not always easy to read, not even for her.”

It’s kinda awkward to lay the coupon in her hands like that, but that doesn’t bother you while you’re more focused on trying to understand her properly.

Must be one hell of a prediction. A customer will come when coupon was handed out. Real Nostradamus stuff there.

“Please, Charles, take a seat while I inform her of your arrival.”

She already makes a move to go back further inside when you get that she addressed you with a wrong name.

“Wait, Charles?”

“Ah, yes.” She looks back to you and smiles. “You may wonder how we know your name, but as said. Your arrival was predicted.”

Again, she turns to walk away from you, and you...
>...correct her on your name.
>...let her believe your name is Charles. They obviously meant to fish for someone else and you’d like to see where this is going.
>>
>...correct her on your name.
But close enough. Were they waiting for somebody else? Or is it a near mistake?
>>
>>3763071
>...correct her on your name.

Do I still get the massage?
>>
“There’s a small problem though”, you tell her. “My name is Christopher.” The old receptionist turns around and looks at you in disbelieve. “So... still the C... but I’m not a Charles.”

Eventually she nods and gives you yet another smile. “I had yet to see the lady fail in her predictions.” She bows to you again. “Thank you for showing me that she is too but human.”

“You’re welcome, I guess.”
Again, she bows before turning to inform that ‘lady’.
“I still get that massage though, right?”
She nods. “Of course, of course.”

You could ask for that ‘lady’ and her predictions, but you’ll meet her soon...

Well, you were asked to take a seat, so you approach the waiting area, take off your shoes and was your feet before stepping into the sand box.

Hmm~ That feels nice.

The coffee you drank didn’t help much against the headache you got from syncing and healing with someone twice, but it’s been about an hour. Maybe you can risk firing up your powers again.

Future prediction. Even if they can be wrong, that deserves a sync.

You dig your feet a little deeper into the sand and think for a moment. That power must suck balls. Being able to see the future and sometimes not being able to stop it, and other times hoping for something and then not having it come to pass even though you didn’t just hope for it, you have already seen it. Your own powers also kinda suck. Sure, you’re able to help people and even save them from death, or at least from bleeding out, but you take the brunt of it.

Maybe you can talk to this lady about how shitty your luck of the draw is. Invisibility and mind-control are cool or powerful. But then again, power corrupts. As a super hero probably nothing would keep you more grounded than a power that sucks like that.

You close your eyes and feel out...

Closest was an older woman, the Asian receptionist, most likely. Then there were... what is that? Well, a man, also somewhat older, maybe around 40 or so. You can feel him to be in some pain, but that may be from the massage? Doesn’t matter, he’s not interesting.

The other thing back there... You have no idea what it is you’re feeling. A bunch of people, but none... whole. All coupled together into one... The fuck? Is Frankenstein’s monster back there? You cut whatever semblance of a connection you had with it.

Female, yeah. That’s really all you got. No... discernible age, at least not as a whole. You didn’t try to check each and every body part for age. Your powers don’t support this particular thing. You felt hacked apart. No, that’s not really it... you believe if you synced up with one thing that you’d only … be a wrist with nothing else. It’s deeply, deeply broken...fractured and stitched together. Like someone took a piece of different puzzles and put them together, somehow able to make the pieces fit... but not quite.

Maybe... maybe you should run. Maybe you shouldn’t meet such a creature. And maybe you should keep it from finding out you have powers either. Last thing you need is some sort of monster knowing about you and by extent then also about Cam.

This could also be your chance of entering this kind of world. It’s giving massages, maybe its friendly... or maybe it’s preying on people to harvest their body parts. And you have super powers, maybe it would like to prey on you even more, and if it knows about you then by extent it could find out about Cam.

Get the massage but don't talk about powers

Ask how she predicted us.

I think we saw her as fractured but still female because she is many pieces of the same person, something to do with her predicting her future and changing it and becoming someone else, or it can be many voices that tell her things to come

If she can take pieces of a person are you sure you want to go near that thing? We don't know if it can steal our powers...
>>
This is way too closed off. You’re not in the proper mall anymore. There are no glass fronts, these are proper walls. And whatever massage room there was, it’ll be even more closed of in the lion’s den.

Come on, don’t be a pussy. Maybe not the entire world is out to get you... But you should put your shoes back on to be able to run, right? Yeah, you should.

You hop out of the sand pit and brush the rest of the sand off before slipping into your socks and shoes again. It feels weird. The sand was really a nice sensation. You wouldn’t go through that much trouble to make someone feel good just to raise them to slaughter then, do you? This was a bit over the top, maybe. Unless the victim needs to feel good first. No, stop being paranoid.

The guy who was getting his massage was hurting... but probably not because he’s being killed and used for spare parts right now. You hadn’t properly synced up with him, but he hadn’t been in as much pain as you’d imagine having one of your limps cut off to feel like.

On another note... she’d probably only collect female parts, if that was... at all what she was doing.

Well, not every body part gives off a clear gender indicator, but, besides the obvious ones like in the crotch and chest, she had a relatively shorter pinkie and longer thumb and the fatty tissue of a woman. But you haven’t done any sort of thorough search of her to say for sure she’s only made up of female parts. And, if you think about it, if you could pick bits of your body, you would stick to your own gender.

And maybe it’s not even body parts of different people. Maybe she somehow fractured herself and it has to do with her powers. Maybe because she sees different futures in... different body parts? No that doesn’t make sense. Whatever... You could simply ask her. Her ability here is not treated as a secret after all.

You’re most likely safe... probably.

But still, once the receptionist comes back, you ask her if you could make a call. She has nothing against it and you call the Millers, informing them that you just arrived at the Rose Petal and that you’ll go home directly after you’re done. And they inform you that Cam was mostly drawing and going through the books they have at home.

>Ask to talk to Cam and inform her that you found someone who may be ‘like you’
>Don’t, you don’t want to tip anyone off.
>>
After you’re done with your call, you really don’t have much more to do except wait. A wait that doesn’t last very long, just as the receptionist had informed you.

A man leaves the backroom first, buttoning up his suit while a woman follows behind, carrying a suitcase for him while his hands are occupied. He’s singing her praises in a very... infatuated way. Like no woman has ever or could ever make him feel this way, not just because she’s pretty, but because of their conversations, and that he truly loves her and would ask her out to dinner.

It made you uncomfortably. And you weren’t the only one. While the ‘lady’ does have a smile on her face you can tell she was getting rather annoyed by him, but since he was a customer she doesn’t behave in a rude manner. She only tells him that she has to decline, no matter how often he asks.

The bomb was only dropped when he later wants to make a new appointment with the receptionist.

“I’m afraid we will have to drop you as a customer, sir”, the lady tells him before the receptionist has the opportunity to even look. “I do not think it is healthy for you to indulge yourself in this fantasy.”
“Wha-? No! You can’t do that!”
“I very much can.”
“I’ll pay anything. I need this. I need you-”

“Herein lies the problem. For one, if you think money is one of my motivators you do not know me at all. And for another – your need – it has grown into an unhealthy obsession. You came to me with problems. Those were solved. Through an oversight of mine I became your new problem, and I can not accept this fact.”

Even though now she talked for longer you still don’t know where to place her accent.

“Please, I-”, he begins but was quickly interrupted by a slap.

As it echoes throughout the room you look away. You feel like you witnessed something that you really shouldn’t have. Something private and... oh boy.

From the corner of your eyes you can see her bow. “Thank you for your patronage. I bid thee farewell.”

‘Have a nice life, sucker.’ You hope no girl will ever react like that to you if you were to confess.
>>
The business man doesn’t say anything anymore but he collects his own shoes, takes one look back and then leaves, yet the atmosphere continues to linger in the room. The only sound comes from the quiet bubbling of the fountain.

“My apologies for having made you witness something so crude, Christopher. What you must think of our establishment...”, she shakes her head, but her voice betrays that she thinks the situation may be amusing.

You take your first real look at her, now that the man was out of the way, and – damn – like he had said, she was pretty. Far from the frankenstein-monster you had in your head. If you were to build-a-bear your own human you’d also only take parts like that. Well, maybe not so much the hair though, and the hair were her most outstanding feature. Auburn and long, really long. It goes down to her hips and it has immense volume. Through the hairs sheer weight it was straighter up top and goes more wavy further down.

But even if the hair were not like that she’d surely turn some heads. Looking like she’s in her mid to late twenties she’s of very marriageable age. She has generous hips and while her breasts were rather moderate, the form fitting sleeveless shirt she wore shows of her slim midriff very nicely, giving her a good hourglass figure. You do so much like sleeveless shirts on women, and since her arms are not skinny either but neatly toned...

You shouldn’t stare too much. And focus on her face. She has a knowing look on her face, but she was not judging you negatively for staring. Or maybe her smile simply hadn’t wavered in the meantime you were staring at her. No. Now that you face her – even though it took barely more than a second to look her up and down – her smile grows a little wider. She knows you know she knows, which only amused her more.

“Ah- I’m sorry.”
“What for?”

‘Staring at you’? You can’t say that!

“Ahm...”
“You are here for a massage, are you not?”
“Uhm...”
“Follow me.”

She doesn’t give you much chance to make a fool of you more and turns around, heading to the back where she came from. Doing as you’re told you follow her.

“You expected me, or, like, used some prophecy voodoo to send that coupon to me, so wasn’t it you who made me come here?”, you ask. “Yeah, maybe I need a massage, but you knew about it before I did.”

Since she only gives you an odd look over her shoulder before continuing on without saying anything you go on. “I have my theory, sure, but I won’t say what I think before you explain to me why you expected me and why you brought me here. The one who was is a man by the name of Charles Rodriguez who frequents the hairdresser I planted the coupon at. I won’t go into detail, but he has some legal difficulties and I employ rather unconventional and aggressive strategies of marketing, you see?”

You’re not sure if you’re getting played or not, but the ball was in your park again. As if you haven’t been over power play with Angie. No, she does know something.

“Aggressive marketing strategies? Didn’t you tell that other guy you weren’t motivated by money?”

“So you do it because you’re just a good person? Or try to be?”
“Unfortunately being a good person alone would not make for a sustainable business model, would it?”
You chew your lip. “Your receptionist made it seem like your predictions are supernatural in nature.”
“You carry an unusual undertone. Now I could strike this up as you being upset that my abilities were not up to bar, or that you’re a skeptic and scoffing at the notion of the supernatural. But I believe it’s neither. So what, pray tell, is it? Are you a believer in magic?”

Are you a believer in magic?

>Are you a believer in magic?
Magic is just science that we don't understand yet :^)
>>
You shrug. “I have an open mind”, you tell her. “Isn’t magic just science we don’t understand yet?”
“Knight Bachelor Arthur Charles Clarke. Two on the C. and another Charles, an odd alignment of coincidences.” She giggles. “No, this is but a meaningless one... Sit down.”

You take place where she guides you, not on the massage table, but on an elevated chair at the end of the room. She only takes a small stool and sits herself before you.

“I aligned a path for someone else to come to me, yet you are under the believe that you were the one called.” She takes off your shoes and socks and runs her fingers over your feet.

“What are you doing?”
“Reflexology, a type of acupressure. Hmm... Maybe it’s magic. After all it is considered alternative medicine and pseudoscience with no proper scientific evidence. Is it a type of magic you’d believe in?”
“That’s not supernatural thou-OUGH.” You couldn’t help but shout out after she pressed into your foot.
“Then what is it that you’d consider simultaneously supernatural but also only a science you don’t yet understand?”
You think for a moment. “Like... you don’t... look like... I thought you would”, you tell her. “If that makes any sense.”

She was visible confused at the statement. “Was your imagination more in line with another Chinese woman like He, as the theme of my interior decoration would suggest? Unfortunately I am Irish.” So that’s her accent!

“Wait, he? He who?”
“He”, she chuckles and points out to her receptionist. “He Tingmao, my assistant.”
“Oh... But no, it’s not what I meant”, you shake your head. “I meant... What I felt was like- you were fractured?”

She stops the foot massage and looks up to you. “Fractured?”
“I don’t know. Like... you look pretty, I mean, normal, but you felt... not... in one piece? Do you know what I mean?”

Slowly she stands up and let’s her thoughts run for a moment. “You- thought you were sent here. Let me ask you this. Was there a long series of coincidences that put you into that hair dressers seat? An unnatural amount of luck these past few days?”

An unnatural amount of luck? Your first impulse is to deny it since your whole life was turned upside down, but... “I wouldn’t say it was luck”, you tell her. “Last week there was... a family incident, so to speak. But ever since then... Yes, everything has been working out decently. And that was the first time I stepped into that hairdresser shop, I mean, I arrived at this city only yesterday and it was because my foster parents were very quick to pick me up.”

An ambulance chaser of a lawyer was there immediately for you, as was a psychologist whose first choice of a foster family were the Millers...

“Shit! We only went to that hairdresser at that time today, because yesterday we missed the appointment at the tailors too...”

She leans back against the massage table. “I fear we might have become pawns in someones scheme, and I do not like that thought at all.”
“Someone’s scheme?”

“Yes. Similar to how I have arranged Charles Rodriguez to appear before me, someone tugged at the strings of faith to undo my work and instead bring you to me. I am not very upset at having missed out at Mr. Rodriguez, as I did not – how should I say it? – put in that much effort. What is interesting is that someone did invest the energy to bring you here. In a quite obvious way too. To what end?”

You can only guess that she thinks more to herself than asking you.

“What year were you born?”
“Uhm...” You were caught rather off guard by that question. “In ‘85”, you answer truthfully. “Why?”
She ignores your question and presses further, “You said I was fractured. That you felt it. How?”
“Hey, don’t I also get to ask some questions?”
“No.”
“Come on. That would only be fair.”

“Someone already tracked me down and I don’t know this individuals intentions, nor anything else about them. Most of my being desires to flee, and killing you in the process would be only natural to sever this tie. Having as little information I have I’m not sure if that is the right path to take.” She smiles. “But if that is the case then your knowledge will be lost anyway, I’ll give you permission to ask to your hearts content. The things that you desire to know should be fascinating in themselves too...”

“Do you steal body parts from people?”, you burst out. “How come you get both that and prophecy while I only got one power? Also I called home in the lobby so if you kill me police are gonna be on your tracks pretty quick.”

She chuckles. “My my. Let’s wrap them up from behind. The police don’t concern me. I told you I may flee from the scheme of some entity I don’t even know yet. For your second question, I am not sure what you mean exactly. You got one power? What power may that be? Because the ‘prophecy’-thing has been me putting things into place before the fact. Like I could claim that the pillow were to fall off the table.” She then pushes the neck pillow from the massage table. “And so it came to pass, not by some miracle, but by the actions of those involved. You see?” Picking it up again she does not face you when addressing the last part. “As for your first question, it does hold true.”

Now you know how Angie felt. It was one thing to suspect something, but a whole other thing to know something. You also now have no real doubt that she truly will kill you if you can’t convince you otherwise.

“Your one power – as you called it – was it how you noticed this mosaic that is my body?”

“Yes”, you confirm, “I just got it a couple of days ago, so I think you’re being paranoid about this meeting being arranged. Do you know anyone else with these supernatural abilities?”

Her mouth is slightly ajar when she looks at you again. “That is so fascinating. Truly, it is. Powers, supernatural abilities. You make it sound like some sort of comic book. You have no idea about any- no, power... Tell me what it does. Your power. In detail. What is it you are able to do?”

The two of you seem to have talked past one another. At the very least she has a completely different understanding of it all than you do. Which, sure, you pretty much arsed everything together by yourself. And she really doesn’t seem outright hostile besides the very much not empty threat on your life she made.

“It’s like... I have this extra sense to notice people. I can feel them and their injuries, and if I want to I can swap those body parts out with mine. They get healed and I get injured, but I then heal by myself... also from wounds I haven’t healed away from others. Like... spontaneous regeneration. I’ve not tested it’s limits yet tho... What is it you do exactly?”

“That is far beyond what I imagined.” She looks up to the ceiling and sighs. “I can do whatever I want. The catch herein is that magic has left this world long ago. All those who could use it only had the bit left that they already had within their bodies, but nobody could... refuel anymore, you understand? Those who used magic just ended up dying. I came up with a way to rejuvenate myself using as little magic as possible. So what you are saying”, she looks at you again, “makes absolutely no sense.”

So you steal away the magic, or body parts from other people to use to rejuvenate yourself?
I don't think what we do is similar in any way.

And Charles and your other clients? Is here where you take their magic parts away? Do they survive the process?
>>
“Oh man, you actually use magic? That’s nuts.” It’s not what you expected to say the least. “But yeah, I have legit superpowers. Give me a horrendous headache to use, but I haven’t died yet.” It does open a lot of new questions. “So how old are you?”

“Human brains can’t store that many memories. It was easier when I have had magic to spare. I barely remember events from more than 200 years ago, but I have also forgotten a lot of things from just the past ten years. I really can’t tell you, but I do believe I’m more than 1600 years old.”

“How much older do you think you can get before you run out of mana or whatever you call magic energy?”
“Another question I can give you a good answer to. I’m nearing my end, I know that. Maybe I’ll make it to the end of the century if I can focus all my – you call it mana – on just surviving.”
“So you literately take body parts? You don’t steal away the magic form people?”
“People don’t have...” she pauses and looks at you. “magic.”

“Now hold on a second. I- I don’t- uhm. What we have is not similar at all, is it? I have like comic book super powers. That’s not like your magic at all, is it?”

She looks at you intently, but then shakes her head. “We don’t know that, but... I don’t know. I would like to believe that I do not want to kill any more people for my own sake. I expect this question to come up next. It’s every other year that I have take a life, or at least to mutilate someone. It may be time for me to die. But even so, having lived for so long I may be more terrified of non-existence than most. My words and actions speak different volumes, do they not?”

A sort of psychopathic grin appears on her face for but a moment. “Christopher. I ask you this. Can your powers heal me?”
>>
>>3774332
>Nope. Your magic has brought you too far away from baseline human. I can't even feel you right. Sorry.

I'm willing to make an attempt, if for nothing else to keep her from killing people for mana

>>
>>3774332

>>
>>3774414
I don't think we can heal her. If we sync with her we'll take on her injuries. Remember she parses to our power as a piece of wrist. We'll become that piece of wrist and die.
>>
>>3774560

>>3767958
>Female, yeah. That’s really all you got. No... discernible age, at least not as a whole. You didn’t try to check each and every body part for age. Your powers don’t support this particular thing. You felt hacked apart. No, that’s not really it... you believe if you synced up with one thing that you’d only … be a wrist with nothing else. It’s deeply, deeply broken...fractured and stitched together. Like someone took a piece of different puzzles and put them together, somehow able to make the pieces fit... but not quite.

you haven't synced with her.
you felt multiple things to sync to
If you'd sync with a wrist that would be all that you'd feel from the other person, the wrist, not the entire body. You think you would only be able to heal stuff on that synced part.
But you won't become a wrist and have her grow an entire body from her wrist.

You’d take a step back if you could. “I’m not sure”, you tell her, “honest. You feel... not like normal people, you feel like many different people brought together. I can, like, try to connect with pieces of you individually and heal them one piece at a time, but that’s- If I can heal you like that, you would stop killing people for spare parts, right?”

“What reason would I have for it then? And as I said, I also just take parts I need and leave them alive if I can.” Her smile turns softer. “But yes, if it works, I’ll never have to kill like this again. I would-” Then, abruptly, her eyes widen. “Is that the reason you were sent to me? If one were to get rid of the remnants of an old world they can easily be killed. But am I given an honorable send off?” She smiles. “Someone to heal my ails, maybe turn me mundanely human so I can die like any person and have a real life? Or is that wishful thinking?” She laughs. “Why would something good happen? Maybe it’s an elaborate trap, but I don’t see to which end.”

“Maybe you’re just a little bit too paranoid. You- you said to that other guy you help people with their problems, right? And, like- you used magic to lure in that Charles guy, because you know he has issues too, right? At first I thought you may want a piece of him, but- You help people. The other guy you let go without a scra- well with a slap, but he was whole and may have sorted out some of his issues. Maybe that entity which sent me here wanted to reward you.”

“You really think so?” She sounds sarcastic.
“I don’t know. But... I may be able to help you, and that’s... what I want to do. I want to help people.”
“You’re willing to try then?”

that part didn't follow good structure. I realized halfway through
>help people, like you said, you harvest a piece
>>
>>3774806
Well, its clear that she more harvests than help I just wanted to know if she does try to help from time to time or this is just a front for her spare parts shop.

And then, if she would not have to use her magic to rejuvenate, what would she do with it
Does she remember what she did before she focused on survival
>>
>>3774806
Nah it's fine. Just don't get her hopes up for a cure in the here and now. We might not ever be able to cure her.
>>
>>3774760
lets start with a hand
>>
>>3774784
Trying to find a "head thingy" should be good, then we could look for anything strange that we could identify as "magic" or simply not belonging to a human body.

>>3774787
Conecting her hand to her arm seems like a nice first try
>>
>>3774936
>>3778161
Not sure how a hand would work. We heal others by taking their injuries upon ourselves. If we do that with her hand, it's possible we'd lose the rest of our body. And kill her too, since her original body would try to reappear but her stolen parts are already there.
>>
>>3778218
so aim for head?
>>
>>3778231
I also don't know if we can heal so fast we regen from a head before dying, but it seems like the least bad idea.
>>
>>3778243
>>3778231
And by that I mean don't actually heal her, just sync and see what we're working with.
>>
>>3778218
I'm thinking of reconecting, I tgink what would happen is our hand fall off, but like when we lost the lung it would grow back in no time

I think its safer to do it with a non essential part so that we don't risk dying on the process, like if we conectec the head we could be decapitated
But then, I don't think the hand will fall off, it is already conected to an arm we are just trying to make that conection more natural and "right" we might feel some pain or some tendons and muscles readjusting but I don't think it will fall
We must see if we are capable of conecting it too, like we did with Cam, search for the cpnection between the ligaments and muscles and try to make them conect for real, bring two pieces into one
>>
>>3778218
we can choose not to regrow her hand dude, it's not like we can't control what we heal, we made some very precision healing before

like this anon said >>3778248
let's try to work on the connections of a hand or foot to the part next to it, not try to regrow the whole body
>>
>>3778248
It's not that our hand would fall off, though that alone is serious enough. It's that everything else would fall off and we'd just be a hand. The precision heal is the only reason I didn't deny her outright. Still for now I just want to find the most complete part of her, which I figure should be her head. Remember the parts that we parse as missing from her are actually filled with other people. There's nothing wrong with the connections. If we do try healing her right now it should be something unimportant in her legs or torso because I feel there's a high collision risk, and her hands are too important to damage.
>>
>>3778267
We could go for the leg then, I'm weary of starting in something important as the head because the conections there could be more serious, but I do want to check there.
Wait, actually we should ask her if she has anything "original" and try to remate the conections to the part next to is....so yeah, it will probably be the head
>>
>>3778218
>If we do that with her hand, it's possible we'd lose the rest of our body
>>3778267
>It's that everything else would fall off and we'd just be a hand.

no it's not, I already clarified that here >>3774573
but I guess, technically you /could/ take one of her body parts and try to regrow a whole fucking person out of it.
But you ALWAYS had to choose what you swap with someone. Your power never worked healed something of someone you didn't specifically concentrated on.

>>3778248
>I tgink what would happen is our hand fall off
that is a possibility, when you heal the seam in between them that you lose that seam
but usually you always got the other persons part, and she does have a seam there

also if I may direct your attention to:

>>3774760
>“What should I start with?”
>She lifts her left hand.
>>
>>3778360
so let's start with her left hand, try to heal whatever is there and maybe try to conect it with the part next to it to make it not be two different stuff again

if the hand fall off we know we won't be able to heal her completely since when we go to her heart or hear we would lose ours and die in the process
>>
>>3778368
>we would lose ours
you will not lose a body part, that's not how your powers work
you will get the damaged one of the person you were healing
>>
>>3778374
Sorry, I expressed myself poorly, I didn't want to say lose but for exemple if the hand falls in the process of conecting it to another part it's safe to say our head would fall if we tried to conect it with another part, and that would be fatal.

However if we do the conections gradually and not at once, it's possible the hand won't fall and that we can try to conect her parts, make her whole
But first let's conect with the hand and see what we can find
>>
>>3778360
Start with the hand, see if there is anything obvious to heal and then move on to making it part of the arm if possible.

I have another question, could we try to "heal" cell decay? Effectivly making someone younger?

Maybe when we get really good at precision healing
>>
>>3778384
>I have another question, could we try to "heal" cell decay? Effectivly making someone younger?
cell decay is not really a thing, not in the way you probably mean
all your cells replace themselves in different cycles but through splitting apart information gets lost. look up what telomeres are if you will, but no, you can't heal someone back to youth
>>
>>3778360
So we would be the new Frankenstein monster instead of her. Well if she's willing to risk her left hand go for it.
>>
“Okay, so... uhm... Like I said before I get bad headaches from using my powers, and I kinda...”

“Oh, but you’d be stopping a vicious murderer.” She pats her eyes innocently. “Do you really care more about your headache than the lives of your fellow humans?”

You roll your eyes. “I mean I’ll do it, but I’m not sure if it works, and even if it does... I kinda need to cool down, you see? I actually thought that maybe a massage would help with my headaches.”

“I’ll take the 5 year plan”, she says casually.
You bite your lip, not knowing what to say, “right...”

When she wiggles her fingers you close your eyes and concentrate again.

It’s so weird, having that in front of you. She said ‘mosaic’, which is more poetic, but she’s still a Frankenstein monster. Unless you can help it, that is.

Even her hand is fractured. Three fingers belong together, but pinkie and thumb are separate, then comes the hand and wrist, each being their own thing.

You never synced with multiple people at once before. You wouldn’t even have thought to attempt it, but like this...

You start with the thumb and the hand. It works. But the two things are almost violently trying to push themselves off from one another. The seam between them... it was something you can’t properly put into words. It hurts, but what it exactly is doesn’t matter. Only that you take it. And the rest of the internal damages? Doesn’t matter how much you transfer at once so you take it all.

“God...”, you groan out as you feel the pain for real on your own hand.

You rub your hand until the pain subsides again. Then you also open your eyes again to see what her reaction was.

She stares at her hand in disbelieve. Even though at least ten seconds have passed already. Only now when you try to make eye contact does she look up for a moment before focusing on the hand again.

“I didn’t think it would...” She doesn’t finish the sentence before looking up to you. “How would you like to be rewarded? Name your price.”

>I dunno. Powers have been around for a while though, even if they are scarce. With how long you lived, you were bound to run into one of us eventually. And no, I'm not elaborating on that.

Wonder if we could heal her mind wipe the same way we healed dads mind control.

That we can ask something magivcal but we are not sure how far her powers go, she mentioned oing anything but she also said she is running out of magic so I wanted her to give us some exemples of what she could do with her powers to us. Feel free to re-write it to be appropriate.

“Well, for one, stop stealing body parts!”
She groans. “What need would I have to do that if you can heal me? I already asked that of you? I’m not some bad guy who kills for fun. You really think I did it because I enjoyed it? I was honest with you, I could have lied as well. And I’m seriously debating to wipe it from your mind now.”
>[new]
“Ok...” You tilt your head. “Given... that was maybe rude of me to ask that. But I do kinda resent that you’re apparently willing to use the last dregs of your magic to wipe my mind, but not anything productive.”
“What is there productive to be done? The last ‘dregs of magic’ I rather spend on comfort, and you not being stuck up about it... I may consider that comfort.”
“Hmm... What can you even do with your powers?”
“Magic. I cast magic.”
“Okay, magic. What can you do with it?”
“I told you, pretty much anything I want, if I would have enough energy. Theoretically you could revert time itself, but for that you’d need enough energy to push all of the energy in existence back. It’s a thought experiment, but nothing more. Name something and it’s theoretically possible, but not practically, especially not nowadays.”

“Yes, but my thoughts were, that, as soon as we’re done, we each go our separate ways. But sure. As long as I’m here, free massages for you. With or without happy ending?”

Think of something... “Help me find your victims, then I can heal them.”
“Why?”
“Because they are innocent, and caught up in your- whatever.”
“Fine, I mostly did that in Europe and Asia. I can make a list if you want to, but what are you planning to do? Show up and ask them if they remember that accident they had and that you are going to regrow their stuff now?”
“Accidents? What do you mean?”
“They had to have some memory of what happened. Seriously, how did you imagine that went down? I sneak up on people in dark alleys, cut them up in some basement and leave them in a tub of ice?”
“Why in Europe and Asia?”
“You don’t do your dirty work in your own back yard.”

“Okay, other thing. Why are you so paranoid? You think this was some scheme of some entity to bring me here. Why?”
“You know my memory is hazy. I know there were other people with magic and I know that putted heads because magic was a limited valuable resource. But by my best will, I can’t remember anyone who had what you have. Not on the whole planet. And then you show up. Someone who has gotten powers a week ago. What are the odds that you run into me by chance?”

I'm fine dropping the first conversation line. We already have a usage example, very small scale memory removal.

>First of all that's sick. I'm sixteen and you're literally a hundred times older than me. Secondly I'll decide in the moment, thanks.

Maintaining my previous write in for the final line.

“You can’t rebuke me for it and then still take it. Ahaha.” She laughs. “I’m a hundred times older than anyone, but that still hurt my feelings. Even if I only suggested it because you were stuttering earlier, but fine. I’ll let you decide in the teenager decide in the moment how to end his massage by an attractive woman.”

“To be honest, it does feel a little too lucky to find the only person that can heal you just one week after he got those powers. But who would have to gain from having you healed?”
“Those who would want me to have my guard down... While I do not harbor much magic anymore, I still harbor knowledge.”
“Speaking of... What are those entities that you believe controlled me to come to you, if there are any.”
“It is the unknown that people fear instinctively, I’m no stranger to this. My hunch is... a god.”
“A god?”, you repeat, urging her to elaborate “seriously?”
“A wild guess, really. But there must have been someone who bestowed those powers on you. I don’t know for what purpose though. How did you get your magic, or rather, your powers?

>“I don’t know.”

You shrug. “I don’t know”, you tell her truthfully, “my dad had powers too, but different ones. So I assume it runs in the family.”
She raises her eyebrows. “Runs in the family? Magic is not genetic.” She shakes her head in disbelieve again, and tries to say something else but you speak up first.
“Why would a god want you to have your guard down?”

She doesn’t respond to it. “I’m not making much sense, do I?” Again, she shakes her head. “There are many unknowns and I’m doubting every step I’m planning to make.” She claps her hands. “Be that as it may...” Sitting down before you she picks up your foot once more and begins anew with the massage. “How’s your head?”

Syncing with someone twice to create a lung and patching her up, combined with having to take in all these new information... “Kinda atrocious”, you answer honestly.

“Would you like some coffee?”
“Ah- yes, plea-”
“You trust me not potentially drugging you to snatch your body parts away? Uuuuhhhh~” She does a spooky noise and drums over the back of your foot with her fingers.

>“Okay, maybe I pass on the coffee...”
>“Why are you making a joke out of mutilation?”

dude
let's not tell the body snatcher that we are an infinity source of body parts telling her we can replace whatever she takes, that's asking to be tied up in a basement and harvested
>>
>>3780445
Again, why would she do that when we're already doing it for her AND not depleting her mana when we do it? Besides, I left it vague so she won't know if we swap body parts with people like she does. She doesn't know enough about our power to take that risk even if having us cooperative wasn't way better for her.
>>
>>3780359
>“You said you would have no reason to. Isn't it better to work with me to not be a patchwork person?”
>"besides, I regenerated my lungs a couple of hours ago after giving them to a guy who was missing part of his, I don't think it would actually leave anything lasting."
>>
You hesitate a bit, but shrug. “You said you’d have no reason to. Plus, I believe I’m more worth to you when I willingly heal you than if you’d get my toes.”
“Nice to know we are have an understanding.” She smiles happily and continues her massage.

You just want to further ask into that god thing when she looks away and shouts something in Chinese. Moments later you hear an answer, most likely a confirmation from He.

Hmm... “You know I know your receptionists name but not yours.”

“Aideen”, she tells you with a smile. “It’s not my given name but the one I’m using. Aideen O’Brian.”

“Christopher Connors.” You introduce yourself in return. “Aideen...”, you roll her name of your tongue, it’s a bit of a weird one. “Like ‘Come on, Eileen, oh, I swear what he means...’ uhm...”

She giggles at your spontaneous attempt to sing. “Similar, yes. A-I-D-E-E-N.” She spells it out for you, but you don’t think you would have written it differently. “While Eileen means bright or shining one, Aideen is a little fire. Connor, too is Irish. ‘Wolfkin’ or ‘lover of wolves’.”

“I... did not know that.”

“No, why would you, so few people actually know the meaning of their names. I, someone who does not even remember her own name, have put some thought into them...”

You feel you got sidetracked from your topic at hand. Maybe she doesn’t want to talk about it anymore.

You have enough stuff left to ask and you don’t really want to rest right now. “Have you ever met a god? What are they like?”

“I don’t remember much, but I can give you my speculation. I don’t trust them, I can’t trust those whose motivations I can’t read, and gods are beings so far outside of my common sense it’s not even funny. What understanding would an ant have to kid keeping an ant farm? Is there a practical reason?”

“Uhm...?”

“So my speculation was that we were harvested for magic and then just left alone, but now I don’t know. Also, I don’t believe that the last god we have had was the creator of this universe. That’s further speculation, but I don’t have any other plausible idea, so there has to be something outside this world, does it not? They have to come and go, to and from somewhere.”

“You said there was no magic left or something.”

“Unless they created new people with it”, she says and looks up to you. “Or, even if it’s not magic they are harvesting, but something new. Magic, as I know it, does not get inherited, but you said your father had powers. If it truly gets inherited, it won’t take long to spread... Do you have living family?”

“Yes, but-” You bite your lip. She’d be able to find out anyway. “not a lot.”
“Younger sister or younger brother?”
“I- sister... How’d you...?”
“You don’t have the bearing of a younger sibling yourself, and you’re quite defensive about it. Also you don’t appear to have been able to talk to anyone about this in depth. If, at all, it was with someone who may knew even less than you do.”

She thinks for a while while moving on to your other foot. “How did your father live? Hidden away or out in the open?”

“Definitely hidden away”, you tell her. “Like, I was even wondering why. With his powers he could have had a much easier life.”
“Sorry for your loss, by the way.”
“I...” You look away. “It’s okay.”
“Family incident. You got your powers a week ago. Dead father. If you don’t want to talk about it it’s fine, but I’d like to understand what happened.”
