You are Edgar Tristan Rood, child of this Holy Grail War’s overseer.

You don’t know what day it is, or how long the War has been going on.

Last time, you took part in an exhausting battle in the state park. After calling Charlotte for help, you set out to bring down the slippery and dangerous Archer. Saber finally let her full strength loose, and learning from past mistakes, you quickly found yourself face to face with Archer’s Master. Then, you decided to have a little f̸̹̈u̴̯͛n̴̞̿. After p̶̩͠l̶̤̓a̸̗͒y̸̜̆i̴̼͊ṅ̵̫ǧ̷̜ ̸̰͘w̴̭̽ḭ̸͂t̷̖͑h̵̝̀ ̴̛͕y̴̻̚o̶̱u̵̠͋r̷̢͗ ̸͙͊f̸̛͚o̶̧̊ó̵̭d̵̩̃ for a little bit, you discovered that not all was as it seemed with Charlotte and Assassin. A bullet pulped your forearm, but you managed to kill that ţ̵̈́h̷͙̕i̵͎͘n̶͖̋ġ̷͈. However, it required all your remaining energy, and you lost consciousness...

Rise and shine, pal.

Something’s warm.

Soft, too. To the right, and across your chest. A gentle increase and decrease in pressure to the rhythm of breathing. This sensation is familiar. Someone is clinging to you.

Slowly, your eyes open. Instead of sunrise, you spot the familiar white canopy of the Einzbern’s guest room. Once again, you’re tucked comfortably under the r̷̪͘e̵͉͊d̵͖̃-̷̻̚s̴̱̾t̵͇̀á̵͕i̵̳͛n̵̨̊e̷͔͋d̵̠̚ covers. Your head rolls to the side to gaze upon your bedfellow. Ursula’s expressionless eyes meet yours. She’s draped around your right side like a cloak, her arms enclosing you and locking together at your far shoulder. The covers are lifted enough that you can see the broad scar across her chest. It seems she isn’t wearing anything.

“Morning, Edgar,” the maid greets you. Hasty steps ring out elsewhere in the room, and the door is torn open.

“Lady Ilonasviel!” Angela yells, voice fading as she bolts down the hallway, “He is awake!”

You’ve clearly been resting, yet you feel drained. A dull throb in your left forearm reminds you of all that transpired last you had consciousness; the slope of the forest hill, Elizabeth Howell, Charlotte’s true identity, and your victory over her master.

“Ursula, why…?” You try to ask about your situation, but weakness cuts you off.

“Edgar, lose blood,” she replies. “Need heat.” That explains why she’s next to you, at least.

Hurried, light footfalls draw closer in the hall. With some effort, you raise your head enough to view the doorway, and a concerned Ilonasviel rushes into the room. Just when she’s about to jump onto the bed, Angela catches up, grabbing her lady’s shoulder. With some effort, Angela is able to stop both bodies and pull Ilonasviel back a few paces. You try to sit up, but Ursula easily holds you down.

A metallic glint draws your attention to the armor of the moonlight woman. She’s here as well, between you and Ilonasviel but positioned off to the side. It reminds you of where Saber stood whenever you conversed with a potential enemy.

“How did I…?” Again, you force yourself to speak.

“Sister was watching your battle,” Ilonasviel says. “When she saw you collapse, she had to bring you here for treatment, since you wouldn’t recover in the city.” That last bit is news to you, but you can’t think very hard about it. “She’s been helping me heal you since.”

“And Saber…?” Your query is little more than an exhalation. The others in the room exchange a series of concerned looks. You know Saber is still alive - that much, you can feel. But given how protective of you she’s been, you would think she’d be the first thing you saw when you woke up. Instead, you’re surrounded by Einzberns. Where is she?

“She is in the manor, but at the moment,” the moonlight woman answers, “she is… occupied.”
>>
An awkward silence descends over the room.

“Howell…?” God, talking is hard.

“If you mean Archer’s Master,” Ilonasviel speaks up again, “we don’t know.”

More silence.

“...Anything else?” you force out.

“There is one more thing,” Ilonasviel says. “Sister mentioned that she doesn’t remember a portion of last night. Much like what happened when Ursula was injured. So, whatever it is, it can be replicated.” And still no idea who or what causes it.

“That’s not all,” Ivonnesviel interjects, suddenly striding into the room. Ilonasviel’s head swivels in surprise. “Caster and the knock-offs chased us for a time. She made several requests for you to be handed over. I suppose they were trying to retrieve you much the same way I did.” Ilonasviel, still held in place by Angela, watches her sister as she comes around the side of the bed with a playful smile. “You’re quite popular, aren’t you?”

Ivonnesviel pulls the covers away from your left side and gingerly moves your arm to examine it, giving you your first good look at your wound. Your skin is paler than usual. The bones in your wrist look like they aren’t quite properly aligned. In your elbow is a cavity where flesh used to be, bottomed by a nasty scar. It’s as though a chunk of your body has been ripped out and someone has been trying to fill the hole back in. A smaller, similar wound is visible on your lower palm. It occurs to you that this isn’t even the full extent of the damage you received. The Einzbern sisters have been healing you for some time now. How bad was it when they found you?

“It’s good that you’ve woken up,” the elder sister continues. “That means you’re recovering. But, clearly, you’re not in great shape yet. Be careful not to strain yourself.”

The arm across your chest moves up to caress your cheek, turning your head the other way. Ursula’s deadpan stare meets your eyes.

“Edgar, sleep,” she says. “Need rest.”

“No fair!” Ilonasviel whines. “I want to talk more! At least let me help treat him!”

“Your magical energy is still recovering from the last session,” Ivonnesviel says, a green light now cast over you. “For now, just focus on supplying Rider’s Noble Phantasm.”

Staying awake is difficult. Speaking, doubly so. The argument continues, but you can’t pay attention. You allow exhaustion to overtake you and drift into slumber once more.

Back so soon? No surprise, I guess.

The usual bridge is under maintenance, so we’ll have to do things this way for now.

We don’t have much time. I’ll keep it quick. If I know her - and I think you’d be surprised how well I do - she’ll be coming for you.

They’re in danger.

All of them. Everyone around you will be walking on a razor’s edge tonight, and it’s up to you whether they live or die. She’ll have a huge advantage over you, I’m sure. You’ll have to make some painful choices come nightfall.

Now rest. You’re going to need the energy when you wake.

Who’s coming?

So that’s how it is. You just made your first choice. You’ll regret it.

Don’t screw with me.

Then don’t deserve it. Time flows differently here. Every moment you waste talking is another you aren’t resting. The one coming is your mother, and you just raised the hurdle you need to clear.

Who are you?

Too late. We’re out of time. And when something bad happens, just remember; it didn’t have to be this way, and it’s all your fault.

~~~
Your eyes open once more. All save you have left the room, and the lights are off. Even Ursula is gone from your side. With some effort, you sit up. Thankfully, you can move on your own, but not with much strength or vigor. The drapes are shut, but they aren’t blocking any light from the window. It’s nighttime.
If what you’ve been told is true, your mother will be coming soon. You need to warn the others! Pulling yourself out of bed, you cross the room and turn the lights on. Pain lances your eyes at the sudden brightness, forcing you to squint and look down. As it turns out, your left arm is now mostly intact; there are still very visible scars, but the meat appears to have been restored. A cursory glance around the room reveals a new set of clothes, much like the last time you came, and a small pile of Black Keys. Though your muscles protest, you get dressed, complete with amulet, and count your weapons - ten in all. You tuck them safely away.
Suddenly, glass shatters behind you. You wheel around to face the window and-
Ḫ̵͆T̶͎̈ ̷̈́͜I̶̺̾V̶̺͗H̵̜̑Ẓ̴̒ ̵̣̒D̵̪̄Ṇ̶̈́ ̶̜̌J̴͙́Ų̷̐T̵͎͋Ḧ̸͇Ṽ̴͇I̶̔Ỷ̸̜D̶̞̽V̴͜͝N̶̮͆,̵͎̊ ̵͙̐F̵͔͂D̵̝͌Ị̵̇B̶̢̊ ̸͖͊J̵̘̍Ạ̷̑ ̷̡͝F̴̙̉D̴͕͘I̶͔͝B̴͉͝N̸̳͌;̶̝̈́
...What the hell?
You’re suddenly deep in the woods, with no sense of position or direction. Wherever you look, trees tower over you, only a few stars daring peek through the canopy into the darkness below. What happened? Where are you? Where is everyone else?
You examine yourself quickly. Fresh cuts are on your right leg and recovering left forearm. You have three Black Keys in your right hand, and only two in reserve. Clearly, you’ve been fighting. But against who?
>>
Ahead, and slightly to the right, you hear a familiar feminine but feral howl. Your body begins to ache; the drain on your Od has yet to reach its peak, but it’s definitely present. Forcing yourself to move, it doesn’t take long for you to notice a clearing in the woods up ahead. You creep closer, using a tree to hide yourself while you peer into the glade. An incredible crunch echoes into the night, followed by groaning and a mighty boom. An arboreal pillar smashes into the ground, kicking up a cloud of dirt.
By the fallen log’s splintered stump stands Saber, breathing heavily, fists filled with jagged wood fragments. Did… did she just tear that tree down? With her bare hands?
“...The fuck happened to you?” As the dust clears, a guarded voice rings out. A dark man with piercing purple eyes is mere inches from the tip of the timber. He’s tense, as though ready to pounce, but he’s only holding his spear with one hand - and, for the moment, it’s pointed down. “Can I even call you a Saber anymore? I think I understand why you’ve gotta die.”
The chunks fall from Saber’s hands. She snarls breathily, taking a battle stance with hands raised. Her white hair begins to shimmer. That tree was just a warning shot.
“It’s a grim solution,” Lancer says, “but this can all end with you, you know? I’ll even let your boy toy live.”
At the suggestion you might be in danger, Saber glances behind her and to the left. Is that the direction of the manor, then? You’re behind her and to the right. You must have fled some distance from the building before coming to find her.
Ding.
The chime of your amulet and a flash of red alerts you to an attack from your right. You spin quickly to face the attacker, but not before two more black and red bullets slam into the air before your torso, both blocked by your amulet. It’s an all-too-familiar spell, one passed down through generations to a girl you’d hoped never to see again.
Saber shrieks when she sees what’s unraveling in the treeline, but Lancer has already moved in between you and your Servant. The swordswoman pauses; for some reason, she’s hesitant to attack Lancer. Another Gandr shot strikes at your chest.
“Eyes on me,” commands Auracecilia Edelfelt, a dozen meters away from you, left hand pointed as a finger gun. Apparently, she never dresses down. Her long, blonde hair is tied into a thick mermaid braid. She wears a white dress with a red blouse, and a black corset on top of that - as though someone is blind enough to think her figure needs accentuation. “Still wearing that cheap scute of a necklace, I see.”
>>
>>3994749
>>Use a Command Spell to bring Saber to your position and have her charge Auracecilia! Kill her before Lancer can react!
I have no idea what the fuck is even going on.
>>
“What are you doing here?” you growl. On a normal day, you’d already be weaving in and out of trees, cornering this magus with a flurry of well-placed swords and ice. However, you only have five Keys to work with, and you’re not sure if you’re well enough to fight for any significant period of time. She knows what you’re trained to do, too; it’s likely that the only reason she’s facing you directly is because you’re clearly tired and visibly wounded. That, or her ego compels it.
“Concerning you, I have two goals,” the young woman remarks. “The first is to eliminate Saber and thus further my path to victory in this Holy Grail War. The second is to put an impudent child in his place.”
“...Are you still mad about the chess match?” you ask hesitantly. That comment earns you another pair of curse blasts.
“Of course not,” she asserts in a huff. “I’m hardly a sore loser. You’re the one who gloated and humiliated me. I’m going to take you down a peg and teach you some manners. Really, I’m doing you a service by showing you how to behave.” Disregarding her embellished memory of the game from years back, she’s blatantly contradicting herself!
“Now,” the Edelfelt continues, “there are two ways we can resolve this. The simpler of the pair is for you to order Saber to kill herself. If you do, I’ll consider that a dignified surrender and take you to the church for protection.”
“What makes you think you can order me around?” you ask coldly.
“The fact that you can’t win,” Auracecilia states. “A Servant battle is an option, but it’s sure to end in your complete and utter defeat.”
“Hate to say it, kid, but she’s right,” Lancer interjects, his back still turned to you. The tension thickens. A chill creeps down your spine. “The way things stand, Saber has no chance. Make this easy for everyone, yeah?”
Right so since not reading the updates thoroughly during the first Archer fight caused us to get blasted to shit this seems to be the best option, since our Od is starting to be drained but hasn't completed crippled us yet. Based on that, the fact we're several keys down, that Saber going toe to toe with Lancer would drain us faster and fighting Edelfelt solo crippled probably won't activate Doomguy Mode again this seems to be the best course of action.
You’re in no shape to fight, and Saber seems disinclined to engage as well. In the face of a completely fresh Master-Servant duo, you’ll just have to run. Magical energy courses through your Command Spell as you use the first of your three.
“Saber!” In an instant, your Servant is warped from her position to you. Auracecilia yelps in surprise and fear; Lancer has already wheeled around, ready to intercept your Servant if she lunges to Auracecilia. “Take me away!”
Without hesitation, Saber picks you up under an arm and rockets towards the manor, catapulting herself off of trees. The air surrounding her is incredibly hot, making the breeze generated by your speed relieving.
“You’re not getting away!”
Lancer, of course, is in pursuit, darting through the forest without losing sight of his prey. He’s not just following; he’s gaining on you! It’s hard to see at this distance, but… are his eyes different? No, don’t lose focus; you need to slow him down so you can escape! If you can just stop him for a moment, Saber might be able to stay ahead of him until you reach the manor! Something simple, but effective. A curved wall; when he slams into it, he’ll either break through, stumble and lose momentum, or he’ll collide and perhaps stop entirely. It’s an easy thing to envision. Lancer plants his foot on a tree directly behind you to follow exactly. Just before he pushes off, you cast the spell.
“Circle Nine!”
The drain on your energy stings. A tall, broad wall of ice, sloping slightly to catch Lancer like a net forms from your fingertips and detaches. It’s hard to see through to the other side of the ice, but you know he’s going to hit-
The ice separates into two. No resistance, no fuss, smooth as butter, the wall comes apart with a single flourish of his spear. What remains of your obstacle falls uselessly to either side. Lancer isn’t slowed down at all. Only now do you get a good look at the change in his eyes. Like liquids in a centrifuge, the component colors of the purple have separated. A thick blue ring surrounds a smaller red circle with the pupil inside. Still some distance behind you, he readies another strike. The spearhead suddenly ignites.
“Lúin Celtchair!”
Lancer thrusts, stabbing naught but air, yet the strength of Saber’s grip vanishes. You drop to the forest floor, tumbling helplessly into some gnarled roots, which flip you and bring you to a dizzying, painful halt. Saber lies in a crumpled heap beside you. Her body is fading. Your connection to her, you realize, is gone. She’s dead! While you try to process what just happened, the man in black towers over you. He holds the flaming lance up for you to see.
“Now look what you’ve done,” Lancer growls. “I’m really not supposed to do this, but you went and pissed me off.” He deftly reverses his grip and stabs downward, piercing somewhere on your torso with his burning weapon. The moment he does, everything stops.
“Hmhmhmhmhm. Hahahahaha!” The priest is unable to contain his laughter. “Look at you! Floundering against the unknown, desperately flailing to save your Servant when you can hardly save yourself! What an awful situation!”
Yeah, you don’t need to be told twice. Lancer’s Noble Phantasm kills without even striking its target! And what’s up with those eyes?
“You don’t even know what’s going on, let alone what you’re facing. That’s the price of missing one too many opportunities, I suppose.”
You’re really not appreciating the snark right now. If nothing else, you have some understanding of Lancer's abilities now.
“It’s only going to get worse from here on. What kind of irreversible damage will be caused? I look forward to how the night progresses.”
He's really milking your failure for entertainment. It’s been a while since you last saw him, so maybe he’s savoring this meeting. That said, this is thoroughly unhelpful and anxiety-inducing. Will you be stuck here until he’s had his fill? Thankfully, his face and voice shift to a more serious tone.
“But… I do understand. It hits pretty hard when a woman dies in front of you, so I’ll help. As he is now, Lancer is an insurmountable obstacle for Saber. You will be allowed to live so long as you not anger Lancer, but preserving Saber is a more difficult task. You must either occupy Lancer so he cannot find an opportunity to strike her down, or you must somehow force him into letting her escape.”
So you have to work around Lancer rather than engage him directly, is that it?
“Of course, the Edelfelt girl has a history with you. If you can think of something to say, you could always stall for time. Perhaps an opportunity will arise… yes, I think that would be quite entertaining. Information is your weakest area, isn’t it? Ask a smart question, and maybe you’ll get some answers.”
Oh fuck. Oh FUCK. Lads we're super screwed. This is your man Dubthach Dóeltenga, of Ulster Cycle fame. Regarding the Lúin Celtchair, "each thrust of this lance will kill a man, even if it does not reach him" (TBDD, tr. Gantz). And he also has access to Ath nGabla. This is gonna be really bad.
>>
So, should we try to appeal to her ego then?
If she does know more about the war than us, which going off of how much Lancer seems to have been investigating, she should.
>>
>>3996045
Okay, so fighting Lancer is a no go since he hacks hitboxes.
I think we need to not necessarily drive a wedge between Lancer and Edelfelt but bring something up that they might disagree on, mainly:
>>I still don't get your plan Edelfelt, surely Lancer's told you about the Beast that's been lurking in the town? Isn't it better to focus our attention on that and then deal with our issues later?
>>And last time we met I thought you'd rather beat an opponent at full strength rather that picking off someone injured for a cheap victory.
>>
>>3996045
>Ask a smart question
Ha ha we're fucked, Edgar's not the brightest bulb when we're steering him.
Since we lack info and Edelfelt has the typically magus ego we should try to appeal to that I think.
>>So were you working for Lucroy as a backup then?
>>Figured you'd try to summon your own Servant rather than contracting with someone else, seems to be a running theme in this War given all the extra Servants.
>>
So Lancer seems to be implying that until just now he didn't think Saber needed to die. Why could that be? I mean one answer is that the Grail only needs 7 servants worth right so with these extras one or two could be spared. Someone's got it out for her specifically.
>>
>>3996329
I think it might be the other way around Anon, I think Lancer didn't need to kill Saber because Edgar wasn't a threat. Then we decided to go insane a little bit and thing's might have changed.
>“Now look what you’ve done,” Lancer growls. “I’m really not supposed to do this, but you went and pissed me off.” He deftly reverses his grip and stabs downward, piercing somewhere on your torso with his burning weapon. The moment he does, everything stops.
So either Edelelt or another 3rd party needs us alive for more possible Tree fuckery or Edelfelt wants us alive to rub our loss in our face.
Which might work in our favour as long as Lancer doesn't decide we're not worth keeping around.
>>
>>3996356
>“Can I even call you a Saber anymore? I think I understand why you’ve gotta die.”
Implies that until now he was of the mindset that she didn't need to die. Even if the Edelfelt has a score to settle someone else put them up to this believing she needs to die.
That might be a good tactic, press the Edelfelt about who her boss is since she couldn't have done this on her own. Or praise her for forcing her way into the war and maybe some false modesty will get her to spill the beans.
>At the suggestion you might be in danger, Saber glances behind her and to the left. Is that the direction of the manor, then? You’re behind her and to the right.
What could this mean though it seems important right now. I doubt she's hoping for help.
My main worry is that we ask Edelfelt the right question in the worst way and she just decides to Gandr us instead of monologuing.
Well fuck me sideways, my write in got us killed. Sorry lads.
>>3996155
Bringing up the beast might not be a super good idea since Edgar's started turning into Treeman and we never really made any progress on tracking the beast despite saying we would. Unless Charlotte's Master was the beast the whole time?
>>
This is just a heads-up that I probably won't be able to update tomorrow. Looks like the general consensus is to talk to Auracecilia. Take tomorrow to discuss and figure out what you want to say, and I'll either roll with the consensus or work the suggestions together in some way afterwards.
>>
>>3996045
>>Keep Auracecilia talking. Stall for time! (What do you say?)
Im for this but I will leave it for others what to say.
>>
I kind like what this anon is suggesting >>3996210
Lancer might be less likely to actually try and kill us if Auracecilia orders him to do it because she's throwing a hissyfit from being trolled.
>>
>>3996771
Maybe something along the lines of
>"Waited till I was injured and weak to make your move. You've become better at strategic thinking since the last time we met."
>>
>>3996771
And since Kirei decided to mock us for our lack of information is there anything that only Edgar knows about the War that we could use to either barter with for more info or at least use to stall?
And Integer are we still racking up the mysterious death beads as well?
>>
>>3996926
He knows Berserker's master isn't exactly happy with her allies and that the Einzberns are both masters. Also that Rider's master up and vanished without a trace I guess.
If we had opened that canister we might know more. It might mean something to others but we have no way of knowing.
>>
>>3996929
Right so do we try to push for a truce given Caster and Berserker have teamed up and Lancer knows first hand how tough he is solo?
And do we think we've scored enough points with Ilonasviel to mention the canister? I mean at this point we've spent a good chunk of several fights being healed by her and the maids when they didn't really need to, might have built up enough trust for her to help us open it.
>>
>>3996935
We can trust Illonahole but not too sure about Ivan. Also not sure Lancer isn't part of the Caster Berserker alliance right now. Edelfelt got him somehow, Caster is the on;y one I can think of that could up and make her a master.
>>
>>3996945
A Caster isn't necessary for a Servant to form a new contract after their previous Master is killed or dropped in some way. Rin was able to contract with Artoria in UBW and Kirei was able to contract with Gilgamesh in Zero just as a few examples.
I'm not convinced that Lancer is in league with Caster and Berserker either. Back when the Lucroy mansion was attacked, Caster and Berserker were very clearly already working together at the time, and Lancer was trying to fend them off when we arrived. I'm not saying it's impossible that Auracecilia is working with them, but if she is then it's not because she owes Caster her contract with Lancer.
>>
>>3996955
Edelfelt wasn't a master though, she had no seals and new ones don't form after the fact unless she was a master who survived another war. She got these seals from somewhere and not in the normal way.
>>
>>3996957
Possibly our mother?
>>
>>3996959
The Overseer could do it yeah. Would explain why they're trying to get this done as cleanly as possible without hurting Edgar.
>>
>>3996959
I don't see how getting Auracecilia involved is a shitstorm for the Burial Agency that was implied to be the case last time though.
>>
>>3996966
I'm pretty sure Lancer got his new Master before the burial agency got involved, so Auracecilia might not be related to that.
>"Waited till I was injured and weak to make your move. You've become better at strategic thinking since the last time we met. Bet I can still beat you one on one, coward." Mentally tell Saber to survive.
Going by her ego she probably will take the bait and Lancer should honour that but if not Saber can hopefully survive him long enough while he's not pissed off.
Just throwing it out there as a possible plan unless someone else can think of a good way to draw info out of her.
>>3997116
Well I'm sure Mom knew about those and is happy Edgar isn't gay.
>>
Neither you nor Saber are in a position to fight. Struggle, and either or both of you will probably die. In that case, perhaps you can stall. If there’s any chance you’ll find an opportunity to escape, you don’t have much of a choice but to wait for it.
“Not a bad move, pouncing on a weakened target,” you say, taking aim at her pride. “Your tactics have improved.”
“Don’t sound so bitter. You’re the one who’s been hiding behind a wall of homunculi and Servants,” Auracecilia fires back. “This is on you for needlessly exposing yourself in your state.” That’s… a fair point, actually. You can’t really come back from that. “Frankly, I’m disappointed. What happened to the boy who marched into my house one day and beat me at my own game?”
“Sorry, but he’s under the weather at the moment,” you continue. “What about you? I figured the proud magus from back then would prefer to summon her own Servant rather than pick up someone else’s. Given the number of extra Servants in this War, that’d only be natural.”
“I’ll have you know that was my plan. It’s not my fault my flight got delayed!” the young woman says irritably. It seems you’ve touched a nerve. You hear a chortle off to the side. Is Lancer enjoying this? “By the time I arrived, all the slots had filled up! Thankfully, the overseer had the wisdom to recognize the injustice I’d been done, and offered to partner me with the first Servant who became available. I didn’t learn about the extra Servants until Lancer informed me of their existence.”
“Wait a minute,” you press on, eager to keep her ranting, “you nearly missed out on the Holy Grail War because you couldn’t be bothered to fly in early?” Another flurry of Gandr bullets.
“There were a lot of preparations to make!” she objects in exasperation. “Someone like you who chanced into the Grail War wouldn’t understand!”
“...How do you know about that?” you ask. There should only be four people who know how you got involved with the War: yourself, Saber, your mother, and Sister Gloria. Auracecilia obviously hasn’t heard the story from you or Saber. If she got the information from one of the latter two, however, that could mean...
“Might’ve said too much, lady,” Lancer cuts off the conversation. He spins around towards the two of you, lance raised. Shit! You can’t take on a-
In a flash, he’s beside Auracecilia, slashing white magic bolts out of the air. His Master turns to look, aghast that something snuck up on her. Lancer executes a wide swing, deflecting a massive sword made of wire. The blade careens into the clearing’s fallen trunk. You follow the trajectory of the projectiles into the tree canopy some distance off. Several wire birds dart through the branches, firing at Auracecilia through the gaps. Before you can move, Saber has already grabbed your waist on a mad dash into the woods, leaving Lancer and the familiars behind.
>>
The forest is eerily quiet. Or perhaps it just seems that way, any white noise noise drowned out by the rush of air past your ears. These trees mostly look the same wherever you look. It’d be nice to know where you’re going.
Saber, you ask mentally, are we returning to the manor?
“Yes.” The reply you receive is not mental, but spoken word. That’s odd. The peace of the night is then shattered by a shrill voice.
“Edgar, help!” comes a woman’s scream. Saber stops and spins you around, switching her grip into a bridal style carry. She clutches you protectively, face ferociously contorted as she glares at the source of the noise. Looking for yourself, you can make out a figure with long blond hair and a large red cloak. Charlotte is breathing heavily, clutching a gash on her stomach. It’s hard to make out her face at this distance, but she seems… scared. She follows up with another shout. “It’s not healing!”
You glance towards the manor, where you’ve been heading. You can catch glimpses of a bright, fast-moving speck in the night sky, swirling up and down and side to side.
>>
Charlotte doesn't have a Master anymore, it's possible that she has some form of independent action but can't expend her energy on healing.
>>
Why would Lancer not attack Charlotte? She would be an enemy Servant as far as he is concerned. That said, I'm not trusting that this is her.
>>
>>3998196
>>Continue towards the manor.
Chances are pretty high that this isn't Charlotte for 4 reasons:
>We've been out of action for at least a day or 2 and she just so happens to appear as we're running away from a fight with another Master
>If we took out or fucked up her Master she should've already disappeared from Mana loss, can't really see anything in the Red Riding Hood story that implies Independent Action
>We've got a gap of several minutes in our perception just as our fight with Auracecilia begun, meaning she might have some way of messing with our head
>Lancer took out Saber with his NP, doubt a "non combat" class like Assassin can survive an NP that wrecks a proper combat class like Saber
Given Treebros warning we really need to tread carefully, we're going to fuck up 100% but we have to minimise how badly we get fucked.
>>
>>3999045
I can't imagine there's anything we can do for her even if this is legit. We're injured and weak and who knows how long Lancer will be occupied. He's faster than Saber he'll catch up.
But fuck, it doesn't feel like Edgar does it? Leaving her there even if it would be the smart thing to do.
We don't really have any to spare what with powering OniSaber and being low on blood. The other way well I don't think we have time for that right now.
>>
>>3999099
Don't think this'll work, the update heavily implies that something'll happen if Edgar stops, even if it is to talk to Charlotte or have Saber carry her. Which again is a bad idea because Lancer is fast as fuck and Saber's already carrying half deadweight.
>>
>>3999109
Saber is superhumanly strong, a waifish girl like Charlotte won't slow her down at all.
>>
>>3999128
>>
>>3999279
Auracecilia is out to either win the War as a fuck you to Edgar, is working for Mom or both. There's no way she'd just let Edgar get away without following with Lancer. The same Lancer that killed Saber pretty easy in the Dead End. So what's more likely, that this is some form of bait, or that Lancer chased after us, found Charlotte in the woods, failed to kill a class of Servant best suited for killing normal humans, then just let her escape after he gutted her?
>>
>>3999294
Then why not take the chance on being able to save her?
I think this is pretty obviously our choice whether or not we want to keep Charlotte around after the revelation of her betrayal.
If it does work out, we get an additional Servant to help in this mess of a grail war.
We're going to need it.
>>
>>3999299
Auracecilia is under attack by Einzberns right now.
You think it's more likely that Lancer is also able to create illusions?
You're operating under the fatal illusion that Lancer is the only enemy servant in these woods.
>>
>>3999305
>>3999309
Because we are running out of chances and Lancer was fighting normal familiars not a servant he won't be long. We aren't out of danger yet and are heading into more problems at the mansion. A detour is going to cost us our life or Saber and if by chance not she'll be a liability during whatever else is going to happen.
>>
>>3999328
>we are running out of chances
Source?
Assassin won't be that much of a liability, I'm sure.
Why are you so ready to let her die?
As for Lancer, he'll have the choice of whether to pursue us or protect his Master.
>>
>>3999309
>You're operating under the fatal illusion that Lancer is the only enemy servant in these woods.
>Lancer - Probably still fighting the Einzberns
>Archer - Dead
>Shielder - Dead
>Saber - Oni Uber
>Rider - Einzbern Servant, possibly powering their NP given the beginning of the thread
>Winged Servant - Might be fighting Lancer, might be defending Ivonnesviel
>Predator - Most likely not here given Lancer's hateboner
>Berserker - Not here, everyone would know
>Caster - Unknown, however the first time skip occurred after her appearance, second time skip occurred post previous thread were Caster and the twins tried to kidnap Edgar, and now we have the 3rd time skip
>Assassin - What we're trying to figure out
All the known players are accounted for other than Caster and Assassin, and I'm more inclined to believe Caster would just try to blow up an enemy Servant like during the Lucroy raid instead of knifing them.
There's nothing out there that explains the wound if Lancer is still fighting and Caster is more likely to use magic, so it more likely that this isn't Charlotte but Caster trying to recapture us (pretty sure Medea teleported her and Kuzuki during one of the routes, could be a snatch and grab)
You can’t leave Charlotte alone. No matter what is happening at the manor, you can’t turn a blind eye to a wounded friend. Even if she tried to kill you once, that was due to the influence of a command spell. It’s unclear why she’s still around after you killed her Master, but there's a lot you don't know anyway.
“Take me to her, Saber,” you command. Saber growls in objection, but obeys. As the two of you approach, your Servant never takes her eyes off of Charlotte.
“Even though you know I’m Assassin?” Charlotte asks, breathless and surprised. Saber puts you down. “You really are the best, Edgar.”
“Show me the wound,” you say, kneeling beside Charlotte. She moves her arm, exposing a strange laceration across her stomach. The entire injury is stained black; in certain areas, there’s a faint, shifting red glow. You lean in and trace your fingers around its edge, careful not to touch the darkness itself; if it hurt a Servant, Lord only knows what it can do to you. “Does it hurt?”
“Yes,” she replies. The cut is so dark that the depth would be impossible to gauge without the red areas. Examination reveals that, oddly enough, the wound is quite shallow. Even if it isn’t healing, something like this shouldn’t cause trouble to a Servant. Unsure how to treat the wound, you raise your head to discuss the cause with Charlotte only to be met with a broad, wicked grin.
“Big Bad Wolf.”
Saber howls. Assassin’s vicious beast bursts from an impossible space under her arm, hurtling past you and towards your Servant. You spin around to track its movement, but in doing so, expose your back to Charlotte. Hands firmly grab your shoulders and yank you backwards with Servant strength. Within a second, you’re caught in a powerful chokehold. Kicking wildly and pulling to loosen her grip both prove fruitless.
“You’ve been working so hard.” The whisper in your ear is as sinister as it is sweet. “It’s okay to rest. I’ll take care of you.”
In the few seconds before you lose consciousness, you see Saber battling the remarkably agile canine. She rips back and forth through the trees, desperately looking for some way, some opening to save you, but finding none.
~~~

~~~
The first thing you see when you open your eyes is Assassin’s upside-down face. She’s smiling affectionately at you, long hair behind her back but nearly spilling around her shoulders. The softness and warmth below your head confirms that your head is in her lap. A blanket covers the rest of you.
“Morning, sunshine!” Charlotte greets you cheerfully.
What? What happened? Where are you? What’s going on? You try to shoot up, but it’s impossible - you’re restrained under your covers, at least at the wrists and ankles. Frantically, you look around. The room is T-shaped, dreary and made of stone. You’re situated in its center. Papers, books, and strange weapons are pushed carelessly to the edges of the room in addition to the huge mounds off to the left. Various magical materials line countertops. You know this room; it’s Sister Gloria’s basement.
But the view to the right is mortifying. Ilonasviel lies unconscious in a magic circle, gagged and bound hand and foot. Beside her, and towering above, sits the Big Bad Wolf. The beast glares hungrily, almost lasciviously, at the helpless girl, swallowing saliva each time it’s just about to drool on her face. Before you can call out, one of Charlotte’s hands clamps over your mouth, stifling your voice.
“Relax, Edgar,” Charlotte says, caressing your cheek with her other hand and turning your face back up to hers. A flicker of greed appears in her countenance. “She’s just insurance. Be a good boy and she’ll be okay.” The hand releases your mouth.
Suddenly, it occurs to you that you have a lot more energy than you did before awakening here. Your body hurts less, too. Why have you recovered so quickly? Wait a minute-
You can’t feel Saber.
“Where’s my Servant?” You’re afraid of the answer, but you have to ask.
Your Servant?” says Assassin, the avarice in her face growing into the same vile beam you saw before. “No, you don’t seem to understand. Saber belongs to Emilia now. You’re not a Master anymore; just a boy. A boy who’s brave, strong, handsome, sexy, righteous to a fault, and mine.”
“Excuse me?” you let out, disturbed by Charlotte’s outburst. In an instant, the malice drains completely from her demeanor.
“At least, you will be once all this is over,” she continues. The girl begins playing with your hair. “Emilia was kind enough to leave me with you, so for now, let’s enjoy some quality time. Alright?”
You fall silent for a moment. It sounds like Mom is the mastermind here. Which means... you’ve been imprisoned by your own mother? The overseer stole your Servant? She’s using Ilonasviel as a hostage? And you’ve been left effectively alone with Assassin of all people? What the hell is going on?
I'd have an extra write-in to take out the wolf first to save Ilona but I doubt Edgar/Treebro's going to listen to us. Probably not the best option, might be the worst, but hey, if Anon thought with their boner last vote this vote I'm thinking with my hateboner. Fuck Charlotte and her shitty yandere streak and fuck whatever shitty churchfag reason Mom tries to guilt us with when she moans about not telling us what the fucking monster forest in our fucking head is because she was feeling sad.
It occurs to me that we could probably trick Charlotte into helping us escape.
She can't trust the word of a woman that would do this to her own son, surely?
She has to be stupid to think this ends in any way other than her being killed off when things come to an end.
We did so well using our (upper) head against the Edelfelt lets try sticking with that, yeah? Keep the nuke on standby till we're able to use it most effectively. As it stands right now with Mom in control neither Saber, Illonahole or ourselves are in direct danger. We need to find out what is going on and figure out what to do before all of that is actually turned against us.
Going nuclear now is the perfect time, we're trapped directly in Charlotte's grip, she has a wolf over Ilona to eat us and we're in a family friends house in the middle of the school full of normies. Edgar's a man of patience and restraint and would normally try to work his way around this, they've set this up to turn those qualities against us. Embracing the insanity is the only sane option, they wouldn't see it coming.
>>
>>4001920
>>
>>4001920
>Curveball option - Edgar kills everyone between him and freedom
I'd even be fine with Auracecilia living since even though she's working with Mom she and Lancer at least had the balls to challenge us to a proper Grail battle, plus I want Lancer to die in a blaze of glory if he's doomed due to the Fate meta.
This is in no way a worst-case scenario. Worst case would be "limbless in Caster's basement being used as a mana battery." We are doing great, neither Ilona nor Saber NOR Charlotte is dead, and if we just let her tell us what the FUCK is going on with this then we'll be in a much better position to make an informed decision and KEEP THOSE WE CARE ABOUT ALIVE
>we don't need any answers if we just kill everyone, right
WE DON'T KNOW WHAT IS HAPPENING
We are SO thoroughly in the dark that ANY information would be nice. Remember, there's more Servants out there and at this moment only Charlotte is confirmed to care if we live or die, if only for selfish, carnal reasons.
>>>Ask Charlotte for more information. What was that wound? What happened to you? Why are you “hers”? What is Mom planning?
If we can convince Charlotte to side with us over Mom, we might just be able to win here.
You see, Charlotte seems to be a stupid asshole that's only interested in her own desires.
That means all we need to do is persuade her that she's better off becoming our Servant so we can always be together.
She doesn't think that our motherreally mean what she said, does she?
We've seen what happens to people with ill intentions towards us.
Why would she consider you any different, Assassin?
I find it weird that Charlotte has gone full yandere since we last saw her. >>4002355
My biggest concern is that if anyone has something meant to counteract forestpowers it would be Mom. She's dealt with this shit from Dad after all and Charlotte would definitely have told her about what happened, she knows we can go green.
Wonder if Mom knows we banged Saber and told Charlotte and that's what triggered this side of her.
>>
Cool it.
If it were just you here, maybe you could afford to go wild. But Ilonasviel is the one on the chopping block. You can’t let her come to harm.
Cool it. Like you always do.
“So why am I ‘yours’ now?” you ask. Talk. Learn something. Lull her into a sense of security. Then you can take advantage of it.
“Well,” Charlotte answers, “Saber will probably be killed tonight, there’s no way you’ll be getting with a magus bitch, and regular girls can’t compare to me. So, really, you’re already mine.”
This isn’t like the Charlotte you know. Normally, she’s chatty, flirty, and carefully maintaining control of the social situation. Right now, she’s strangely possessive, and she seems more liberal with information than ever before. Given how many times she’s had a chance to kill you if she wanted, this isn’t a result of her physical control of you. Something is up. Maybe you can get to the bottom of it.
“I’m not convinced,” you say. “Saber won’t die so easily.”
“Yes, she will!” your captor asserts. “Emilia and the others will be raiding the Marshall estate tonight. Saber will be on the front line. Even Lancer thinks his chances of survival are low, so Saber is dead for sure.”
Does Mom intend to win the Holy Grail War herself? To what end? Just to keep you out of it? And why is Lancer so worried about this upcoming attack on Marshall? Though you’d like answers to all kinds of questions, you limit yourself. You've learned that Mom has multiple Servants in her pocket and is happily using them, despite her position as overseer. You try to shift the conversation to another subject.
“You’re saying my mom went out of her way to set me up with you?” you inquire. It’s strange, but you phrase the question in a way you hope will appeal to her current state of mind.
“Maybe~,” Charlotte coos. “She told me to stay here and guard the prisoners, but she’d have to suspect we’d use the time to bond, right?”
Assassin’s thought process is beyond odd. Has she not considered the possibility that your mother will eliminate her, too?
“Well, there is more than one captive. Why is Ilonasviel here? One Servant alone should be sufficient to keep me contained.”
“Just to keep the dolls in line.” The dolls... the Einzberns, perhaps? Charlotte dismisses Ilonasviel, but her comment seems to confirm that multiple other Einzberns survived the attack, though you don’t know which or how many. How and why Mom wants them controlled isn't clear, either. And once Marshall is dealt with, Mom may come after them next. Interrupting your thoughts, Charlotte takes both your cheeks in her hands and pouts. “Geez, you should stop thinking about other girls. Focus on me, okay?”
“...Okay,” you say, most lines of questioning now severed. But there is one mystery you can still investigate. “How’s your injury doing? What caused it, anyway?”
>>
“During the fighting last night, one of the dolls managed to cut me with the tip of this big black halberd,” Charlotte explains. “Since then, I’ve been feeling a little funny, but I’m sure I’ll get better once the wound heals.” One of her hands moves to stroke your chest. “Thanks for your concern, sweetie.”
A black halberd. Ursula, no doubt. You’re impressed she managed to even graze such a nimble enemy, but even more bizarre is the damage the weapon inflicted. Based on what you just heard, it's possible that the strike Charlotte received is the cause of her current behavior. Just what kind of blade is that polearm?
“Can you show me the cut again?” you request.
“Is this just an excuse to see more of my skin? Okay then,” Charlotte teases. To your surprise, Charlotte dispels everything but her underwear. With a mischievous grin, she leans over, your head still in her lap, pressing her wounded belly into your face. “How’s the view?”
The laceration is directly before your eyes, still the same size, depth, and color as last you saw it. It hasn’t healed at all. But it’s strange that Charlotte’s so affected by it, since i̴t̵ ̸s̶h̵o̶u̴l̵d̸ ̸b̶e̵ ̵n̸o̶t̴h̶i̴n̸g̵.̴
>>
Right so before I actually vote I'd like to point something out.
>The entire injury is stained black; in certain areas, there’s a faint, shifting red glow.
>“During the fighting last night, one of the dolls managed to cut me with the tip of this big black halberd,”
>black halberd
>Einzbern maids have silver halberds in canon
>The Einzberns have found grail mud
>Ursula has probably blackened Charlotte by accident
The fucking canister's going to be filled with it
>>
>>4003110
>>Kiss it better.
Time to 'eat' her out.
>>
>>4003216
So they're using Grail Mud to make anti-Servant weapons? The Einzberns are getting really crazy now.
>>
>>4003110
>Hasn't she considered asking Illonasviel how to dispel whatever is preventing the wound from healing? It was one of her Servants that caused it, after all.
>>
>>4003216
That explains her turn for the yandere.
Vampire powers to the rescue!
Succ the corruption away!
Or just kill her.
Either or.
>>
Assuming that we ARE a vampire and that IS Grail mud, why would we want to succ it?
>>
I gotta wonder, is there a reason that this option is red instead of the fucked up squiggly ones from earlier? Does Edgar have more than just a talking tree in his head?
>>
>>4003246
Probably gives way to a Bad End.
>>
>>4003246
Fucked up lines are Treebro, red might be mud? But some of Treebros lines were both.
Also from the sound of things Charlotte still agreed to the plan to kidnap Edgar and off Saber when she was sane, seems trying to fight Ursula is what made her crazier.
>>
>>4003254
You made a good point earlier, if this wound is from the grail mud blackening Charlotte, imbibing it would probably be a really bad idea
>>
>>4003245
Because evil grail goo isn't something that will be a problem for a vampire too much compared to a human and especially a Servant.
>>4003246
Probably.
Time to see where this goes.
>>
>>4003261
Grail mud is only good for killing humans.
Who knows what will happen on a vampire.
It might even break whatever is sealing our treebro's power from us.
>>
And taking another look into Ainnash might shed a bit more light on the situation. Seems in canon Heartless used the Child of Ainnash, the local leylines and the Greater Grail to make a fake grail and summon Faker. So what if instead of Angra Mainyu corrupting the Grail it's actually Ainnash inside it and Edgar's not only a different version of Shirou and Kotomine but Sakura as well, might have had one of the seeds from the fruit of the Forest implanted in him.
>>
>>4003110
>>"We should probably get the wound checked out, I mean it wouldn't be fun if all our time together is spent with you being sick. Give me a turn to look after you."
Figured phrasing it kinda couplely might work in our favour. Get Ilona to check it out and maybe reverse it then get the fuck out with her and the potential superweapon canister.
As much as using a Servant as a juicebox might power us up let's avoid actively drinking 7 billion curses at the same time.
>>
>>4003425
Remember that Big Bad Wolf is still here, can very likely act without immediate orders (doesn't need to be told on the spot to chase us), and is much faster than us. If we try to escape it has good odds of catching us.
No, the only way out is to neutralize it -- that means holding Charlotte hostage or killing her.
Does it mean that we're not meant to notice it and ignore it or does it mean it's nothing since it can't harm us given our possible heritage?
You punch it, kick it, burn it, freeze it, starve it, stab it-
You awaken suddenly, soaked in sweat, breathing heavily. Mom and Sister Gloria are kneeling next to you on either side, hands gripping you comfortingly, looking incredibly concerned. It doesn’t appear that you’ve moved, but your head isn’t in Charlotte’s lap anymore.
“So he pulled through,” the spearman’s voice comes from somewhere in the room. “You sure we shouldn’t take him?”
“I’ve been quite clear that I won’t have it, Lancer,” your mother snaps. “I’d adjust the seals right now if time allowed, but we need to leave if we’re to finish Marshall by the night’s end.” She rises and moves to leave, Sister Gloria in tow. “Keep him here, Red. If Edgar experiences any negative changes whatsoever, I want you to alert us immediately. Do you understand?”
The only response she receives is a series of pained coughs and hacks.
“Good. I’ll leave you to it.” Apparently satisfied, you hear her and her partner traversing up the stairs. Your breath recovered somewhat, you raise your head to spot your mother and call her back. You want to ask her so many questions, all the whys, hows and whats that have haunted you since the start of the Holy Grail War. But just looking takes all of your strength, and you can’t muster enough to speak. Mom’s gaze lingers on you as she ascends, calling back down the second she meets your eyes.
“I love you, Edgar.”
Then she disappears from view. Sister Gloria is right behind her.
>>
As you hear the door shut out of your sight, you notice something past your feet at the bottom of the staircase. Charlotte is curled into a ball against the wall, quivering and shuddering. She’s badly beaten. Occasionally, she coughs up blood, adding one to the myriad splotches on the wall, the floor, and her clothes. What little skin you can see is as equally bruised as it is bloodied. Perhaps sensing your gaze, Charlotte pulls her cloak around her tighter, as though trying to hide her wounds from you.
You let your eyes wander to the rest of the room, as well. Ilonasviel is awake and has risen to her knees despite her bonds, eyeing you with worry from within the magic circle. The Big Bad Wolf has lain down, but still watches its captive. Lancer is nowhere to be found.
You’re pinned firmly to the stone floor. Movement is impossible, and you have no one to speak to. So you wait. How long, you’re not sure; a stone ceiling does little to track the passage of time. At some point, Ilonasviel flops back down rather than continue to put pressure on her knees. You wait. And wait.
And wait.
And wait. And wait.
And wait. And wait. And wait. And wait.
Then, you hear shifting. Something walking across the floor, closing in on you. After half a minute or so, Charlotte comes into view. She collapses at your left side. However much time has passed, her injuries seem to be healing, though she hasn’t had the chance to clean the blood off.
“Hey there, hot stuff,” she says weakly.
“Hey.”
“Thanks. Really.” She manages a soft grin. “And... sorry about earlier. I got carried away.”
“Are you better now?” you ask. A giggle from the girl quickly turns into a brief cough.
“In some ways.”
A few moments of silence pass.
“So,” Assassin begins again, “I’d apologize earnestly… ask how you healed me… but, if I know you… you have other concerns right now. Yeah?”
You nod.
“You want me to take you. Follow them. Save Saber and learn the truth?”
“Mmm! Mmmmmm!” Muffled yelling. Your head rolls to the other side. Ilonasviel is looking at you intently and calling through her gag. It’s not hard to infer her message; if you go, she wants to come.
Poor Charlotte seems to have been beaten for her failure.
Looks like Mom wasn't quite as approving as she imagined she was.
But honestly?
We did save her by stopping to check her wound.
Allowing her wound to have festered would've been way worse, possibly entirely altering her.
So while the situation isn't optimal, it's pretty good for us right now.
Forgiving her is entirely fine considering the mental influences she's been under.
Poor Edgar is a real mess now.
Red voice is best boy/girl though.
Edgar certainly isn't a normal human though.
Tomoe I doubt would kill us, that completely goes against who she is. She'd just kill the others.
Ask Illonahole what the hell they did to Char and ask Char what exactly was Mom's pitch to egt her in on this.
Also no worries QM you do what you got to.
>>
You nod. You can’t afford to let tonight go as your mother plans it.
“Then I’ll take you,” Charlotte says. She moves almost immediately to release your restraints.
~~~

The three of you ride on the back of the Big Bad Wolf. In front is Charlotte, guiding the beast. You take the rear, holding onto Charlotte’s waist to maintain your balance. Ilonasviel is sandwiched securely between the two of you.

It didn’t take long to prepare for the night. You took as many Black Keys as you could carry and confirmed that your Command Spells are gone. Mom took your Servant and made sure you wouldn’t be contracting with another. The canister was gone; according to Charlotte, Mom probably took it with her.

Your mount is swift, breezing along suburban roads in the brisk spring night. Part of you thinks you should be concerned that ordinary folk might see what they shouldn’t. But something about the atmosphere makes you certain that won’t happen. The stillness of the neighborhood is somehow… complete. Almost dead.

“Hey, Charlotte,” you say, in part out of curiosity and in part to pass the time, “what happened after you choked me out?”

“I fled,” the girl replies. “Saber tried her best to catch up, but at the same time couldn’t really afford to with your life in my hands. By then, Emilia and the others had already captured an Einzbern, so we left. She took your Command Spells, but didn’t keep them. I think she has her own Servant. I’ve never seen it, though. Assuming Saber’s not dead already, she should be contracted to Archer’s Master.”

“Howell is working with Mom!?” you exclaim. It makes enough sense, you suppose, but for some reason i̶t̴'̵s̶ ̶j̶u̸s̶t̷ ̴w̵r̶o̵n̶g̸.

“Yep. As it turns out, Emilia is quite the schemer.”

“What plan of Mom’s did you agree to when you started working with her?”

“‘Agree’ is a pretty strong term for what I did,” Assassin says. “I didn’t have a Master and I was running out of time. Emilia told me I could either help her capture you and safely remove you from the War, or I could fade from existence. There’s not really a choice there. Besides, if she wanted to kill you, you’d be dead already, so I knew you’d be safe. I contracted with Gloria, and here we are.”

It doesn’t seem like Saber factored into Assassin’s decision at all. That’s hardly a surprise, given that two Servants in a Holy Grail War are mortal enemies by nature. You, on the other hand, did matter. After how Charlotte acted earlier, you think you have an idea why. Speaking of her behavior...
>>
“Ilonasviel,” you address the other passenger, “what’s the deal with Ursula’s halberd? It had some strange effects on Charlotte.”

“Assassin,” Ilonasviel corrects you harshly. You’re not sure why. “And a full explanation would take a while, but suffice to say it’s a halberd that was modified in a previous Grail War. The change wasn’t intentional, but it’s proven highly effective against Servants, so we still use it.”

“But what does it do, exactly?”

“It’s a powerful curse. The effect varies, but for most Servants are paralyzed and can be killed easily. I don’t know how Assassin resisted it. Or you.”

Silence hangs in the air for a few moments.

“Edgar,” Ilonasviel continues, “what… what are you, really?”

“What do you mean?” you ask, confused.

“By all rights, that curse should kill a normal human. But not you. You didn’t just resist, you somehow neutralized it. And when you were resisting, you…” Ilonasviel trails off.

“I don’t really know,” you say when it becomes evident that she doesn’t want to finish her thought. “Maybe you and I will finally find out tonight.”

“Whatever it is,” Ilonasviel blurts out, “...I won’t hate you. I promise.”

More silence. The Einzbern’s face sinks into Charlotte’s back. You can’t see if she’s blushing, but you’re pretty sure she’s embarrassed by what she just said.

“Thanks. By the way, when did you get a second Servant?” you ask, moving the conversation along so her embarrassment will pass. You’ve been wondering about this since Ivonnesviel told her sister to provide mana to a Noble Phantasm, but haven’t had the chance to ask.

“I took control of Rider the night you killed Shielder,” Ilonasviel says.

“And that’s the armored woman who’s been with you?” you clarify.

“I thought that was obvious.”

In hindsight, maybe it should have been, but it’s nice to know for sure.

The stone outer wall of the Marshall estate comes into view. It’s several feet high, making it hard to see past, but from the back of the Big Bad Wolf you can just barely peek above it. Beyond the barrier is a vast, well-maintained piece of land dotted with trees. A few paved walking paths meander through yard and garden alike. In the distance, at its center, a gently sloping hill stands with a mansion at its crest.

“Here comes the bounded field,” says Charlotte. “I may be able to sneak past on my own, but with you two here, they’re sure to be alerted. Hang on!”

The canine turns and charges directly at the stone wall. Your hold on the Servant tightens, clinging to her for Ilonasviel’s stability as much as your own. With a powerful leap, the Big Bad Wolf sails over the obstacle, carrying all three riders with it. As soon as you pass the bounded field, everything in your view changes.
>>
The well-groomed, grassy yard covering the distance to the manor is replaced with a dense forest of massive, gnarled, ancient trees, varying wildly in height. Their trunks and branches are so twisted that you haven’t the faintest idea what species they might be. Abundant moss and vines on the bark don’t help. The canopy is thick; limbs are so intertwined that it’s difficult to tell where one arbor ends and the next begins. Even so, a howling wind rustles the leaves, allowing the glimmer of the moon and stars to light the forest floor. The ground is an uneven mess of roots, broken-up ground, and, in some places, the occasional chunk of fractured pavement.

Upon landing, the wolf stands still. This is absurd! How could all of this overgrowth remain hidden from the outside? Even an experienced illusionist should struggle to create and maintain such a large-scale fabrication! There’s no doubt in your mind that this is the work of Caster.

“Lancer wasn’t exaggerating,” Charlotte sighs. “Edgar, I can feel no less than eight Servants here tonight. Maybe more. I can sense so many that it’s a bit dizzying. The bounded field must be containing their presences.”

Eight Servants!? How are so many left alive at this stage!?

“One of them is Rider,” says Ilonasviel, anxiety tinting her tone. She clutches Charlotte, as though to comfort herself. “Sister is here as well, along with her Servant and Ursula.”

“My wolf can smell some smoke around here,” Charlotte continues. “There’s a Servant moving about upwind. It might be the source.”

Silently, Charlotte turns to you and holds your gaze. There’s worry in her eyes, but also trust. It seems she’s waiting for your orders.

I don't think so.

>Your thoughts are interrupted as two figures fade into existence, blocking your view of the window. The first is Saber, standing in between you and the visitor much like she did in the clearing last night. The second, presumably Rider, is a tall woman with tan skin. Her hair is black and tied into two braids, one on either side of her head. Scaled armor made of bronze protects her body, consisting of a breastplate and leggings over red fabric. A gold diadem and similarly gilded girdle serve as adornment.
>>
>>4008195
And here's where Moonlight was introduced:

http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/qstarchive/3829858/#p3850668
>Your head jerks to the right. It’s the corner store you left Ilonasviel in. One of the windows behind you has been shattered, glass coating the concrete a few meters to your rear. To the left, you find Saber standing off to the side next to a woman you’ve never seen before. She’s drop-dead gorgeous, with incredibly long, pale blue hair and amethyst eyes, clad in armor colored silver and blue. A Servant, no doubt. You also realize that your left arm has its own bloody scrap of your shirt bound just below the elbow.
>>
>>4008198
So, here's how the Servants currently break down as I understand it:

Einzbern Faction
Moonlight Rider - ??? - Ilonasviel Von Einzbern
??? - ??? - Ivonnesviel Von Einzbern

Emillia's Faction
??? - ??? - Emilia Rood
Saber - Tomoe Gozen - Elizabeth Howell, [Edgar Tristan Rood]
Lancer - Dubthach Dóeltenga? - Auracecilia Edelfelt, [Alceste Lucroy]
Assassin - Charlotte/Red Riding Hood - Sister Gloria, [Sebastian Blackburn (Predator?)]

Marshall's Faction
Caster - ??? - Leon Marshall
Berserker - ??? - Iris

Unknown
Rider - ??? - ???

Dead
Archer - Odysseus? - Elizabeth Howell
Shielder - Ferdiad - Ilonasviel Von Einzbern

>Just realised that if Gloria's at the smoke we're completely fucked since Charlotte'll get Command Spell'd again
At this point the best we can hope for is that it's Auracecilia and Lancer, anyone else and we're either dead or captured. Least we can maybe talk our way into having Auracecilia break out of the alliance since she's basically a puppet.
>>
>>4010349
It could be Elizabeth and Saber, Saber can produce flames which might be causing the smoke. It could also be from Ivonnesviel's unknown Servant.
>>
>>4010357
Maybe, but I don't think Integer would give us the option to go find Ivonnesviel and co and then turn around and go "What do you know! They were at the fire as well!".

And if it is Saber and Howell then that's really not good, we might have spared her but she's in the Grail War to save her brother, if it was the other way round and Mom wasn't a backstabbing bitch you know Anon would gladly get rid of anyone, favour owed or not, to save Mom. If she pops a Command Spell Edgar's fucked because he'd need to defend Ilona and Assassin's fucked because she can't take Saber on and even if she could she can't hurt her because we'd go right fucking through her.
>>
“Let’s check it out,” you say. According to Charlotte, it’s just one Servant, so you can probably flee if it turns out to be hostile.

“Get ready,” Charlotte replies, facing forward once again. No sooner have you readjusted your grip than the wolf takes off into the woods, following the invisible trail wherever it leads. The surroundings don’t change much, but the path you take is winding. Assassin’s wolf turns frequently, barely able to go more than forty feet in a straight line. Matters are made worse by the speed of the canine. It’s incredibly difficult to maintain a sense of direction; almost as though these woods were purposefully designed to confuse those within. The smoke becomes thicker to the point where you can smell it, and finally visible. Ilonasviel coughs once. Thankfully, it doesn’t take too long to find the source.

A tree has started to burn.

Flames crawl all about the trunk and have begun to spread among the branches. You follow the blaze downward. At the base of the large arbor, a woman keeps her left hand placed on the bark, fire pulsing outward from her palm. She turns to face you.

Her long hair is black as night, skin pale as snow, and eyes gold as a hoard of treasure. A coat of mail that’s been stained a dark color covers an expensive-looking red shirt. It probably used to be a dress, but everything below the thighs has been torn off to reveal black pants and boots. You’re struck by how similar she looks to Caster, although younger and more beautiful.

And then… there’s that sword.

Your eyes are first drawn to the fuller. It looks like a long pool of fresh blood, or perhaps as though the sword has been engorged and it’s burning through like acid. Surrounding that, the steel of the blade has a reddish tint. The guard can only be described as bizarre, a collection of small, black stalagmites protruding in all directions from the center but down. With a hilt that appears to be made of bone, her armament makes for quite a spectacle.

“So you’re the one,” the stranger says, golden eyes scanning you with disinterest. After a brief moment, her gaze shifts to Ilonasviel. “And now I see why.”

The Einzbern is transfixed, a look of terror on her face. She whispers only a single word.

“Avenger!”

“I’ll be taking the boy now,” the Servant says, gesturing to you with her blade, “so you two can shove off.”

At this stage, a conflict is all but inevitable. Think. Fast. You've got seconds at best before this woman strikes!

Might as well make lemonade out of the evil flaming lemons. Chances are Avenger's probably one of the twins Servants given her and Ilona's reaction so we're going to be a bargaining chip, again, this time for Marshall and Caster. Maybe we can have Ilona thread us and have Rider and Ivonnesviel save us. Again. Starting to think this whole battle was set up by Ilona and Mom so Ilona gets the chance to experience saving us.

The Big Bad Wolf is fast. It probably retains most or all of its agility when ridden by Charlotte, but with two non-Servant passengers aboard, it’s bound to be encumbered. You have no idea what this new Servant - Avenger, as Ilonasviel called her - is capable of, and you can’t bring yourself to risk the lives of the other two in hopes of making a getaway. However, if you announce your plan, they’re sure to protest; Charlotte may even flee before you have the chance to enact it. Wordlessly, you dismount and approach the Servant.

“Edgar, what-” Charlotte begins.

“Alright, I’ll go with you,” you announce to Avenger, raising your hands in a gesture of surrender. Your captor stares at you with mild surprise.

“You can’t!” Ilonasviel shrieks.

“I won’t have you two getting hurt if I can help it,” you yell over your shoulder. “Run. Get help. I’ll be fine.”

The wolf takes off, despite Ilonasviel’s shouts of protest. Assassin clearly knows it’s pointless to try to convince you. Heavy, trotting footsteps fade away behind you. At least they’re safe. Once the two have made it some distance away, Avenger’s slight bewilderment vanishes. The Servant begins to laugh. It starts low, but quickly rises, until she’s doubling over in a maniacal cackle.

“You have balls, if nothing else!” Avenger howls. “Maybe you will be worth my time.”

And then she punches your lights out.

~~~
“...up! Wake up!”
You’re roughly shaken awake by a small, white-haired girl sitting on the floor. By your estimation, she can’t be more than sixteen years old. A worried, two-tone pair of eyes stares back at you; one blue, one red. Her clothing is simple, only consisting of a large, light-blue sweater and black stockings. She looks… familiar, somehow.
Taking stock of your surroundings, you find that you’re slumped against a bed in a lavish bedroom. The wall is painted in a lavender hue, matching the bedcovers and drawn curtains. Despite the bright color palette, the furniture is heavy and ornate, most objects having substantial weight and intricate wood carvings. There’s a clash in the decor between the wood and the rest of the room, as though they were picked out by different people.
You straighten your posture and refocus on the girl. This situation gives you a sense of déjà vu, but you’re not sure where that might come from.
“Do I know you?” you ask the most obvious question, staring closely at her face.
“My name is Hydrangea,” the girl begins, blushing as she pulls away a bit, “but… you can call me Angie.” It occurs to you that maybe you should introduce yourself.
“I’m Edgar. Nice to-” Before you can finish, a faint, distant sound reaches your ears. A boom of some kind. You may have more pressing matters on your hands then pleasantries. With time potentially running out, the second logical inquiry springs from your mouth. “Where are we?”
>>
“We’re in the home of Mr. Marshall. There’s a battle outside.” Angie breaks eye contact and hugs herself. She’s clearly frightened. “We’re being attacked.”
That’s right. Leon Marshall. The Second Owner. That guy who forces Iris and Juniper to be his personal attack dogs… by holding someone named Angie hostage. That guy you want to slug.
It seems there’s an assaulting force, too. Whoever they are, or how many, you’re not sure. As a Master, Marshall is sure to have his fair share of enemies. You don’t know anyone like that, though.
“We don’t have much time,” Hydrangea continues. “It’s all coming to an end. If nothing changes, then I’ll...” Her gaze returns to you, eyes pleading. “Iris said you might be the only one who can help me. Will you?”
You’re pretty sure you already agreed to help this girl. Sometime. Somewhere. Still, it can’t hurt to reaffirm your commitment, right?
“Yes. I can,” you nod.
A ray of hope enters Angie’s face, like she never expected you to respond that way.
“...Thank you.” Her eyes start to water. But you don’t have time to share emotional moment right now.
“No time. Thank me later,” you interrupt. The girl snaps back to the present, and quickly rubs her eyes. “What can I do?”
“We could try to flee,” Hydrangea begins to babble, “but Caster will pursue us if I leave this room right now. You could kill Mr. Marshall instead, but that might not be enough. He built something in the workshop below ground to sustain that flower. If you destroy it, then his plans are ruined for sure.”
Whatever you’re going to do, you should do it fast. There’s no telling how long the mansion’s defenses will hold against the invaders.
“Then I’ll tear the workshop to shreds,” you say. Again, Angie looks bewildered, like you’ve just offered her more than she could hope for. “Where is it?”
“J-just hug the left wall on your way out,” Hydrangea stammers. “The stairs will take you straight to it.”
“I’ll be back soon. Wait here,” you instruct the girl. Quickly, you stand, head to the door, and, after confirming no one is in the hallway, make your way to the staircase. The corridor is similar in design to those you saw… somewhere else, although the color scheme is darker, featuring brown and green.
It doesn’t take long to reach a spiral staircase. From your landing, it goes both up and down. You descend first one, then two flights. The basement level you exit onto looks like some sort of abandoned castle. Walls, floor and ceiling are made entirely of stone brick, lit by odd blue torches. Something that looks like moss covers maybe half of all surface area. Greenery akin to ivy, weeds, and roots seep through all cracks in the construction, be they hanging from above or protruding from below.
Another quick scan of your surroundings locates a wooden, circular door to the side, held firmly in place by a series of vines. You try to cut them with a Black Key, but they’re far too thick to saw through in a reasonable amount of time.
“Circle Nine.”
Instead, you use your magecraft to tear the knot to shreds from the inside. Icy spikes sprouting from within devastate the verdurous lock. Botanical chunks make a wet, almost fleshy sound as they drop to the floor, followed by the shattering of your frosty key. You open the portal and enter.
The interior is dark, but you can still see plenty as you wander through. Naught but one dim light, pure white and clearly magical, illuminates the workshop from the center. A thick, complicated pattern of shadows from the surrounding foliage marks everything, including you, with intricate tattoos. Much like Lucroy’s inner sanctum, you pass between many tables and shelves, which in turn are littered with all manner of arcane objects. A variety of unique floral entities, almost certainly created through magecraft, dot the room, as though this is some form of dungeon greenhouse. Finally, you find a path to approach the chamber’s core. Directly underneath the source of soft radiance is an earthen mound topped by a single flower; a lily, pale as the glow above.
“Wait! Don’t hurt that flower!” A panicked plea rings out from all corners of the room. You draw your weapons, take a stance, and look in all directions, but it seems there’s nobody else here. Is this some form of magical intercom? “I’ll give you anything! Just leave it alone!”
Your fear of interference pacified, you pay the request no heed. You told Angie you would help her. If that means destroying the plant, then that’s what you’ll do. You take another step forward.
>>
T-The Grails!” A cry of desperation. “We can split the Grails! I only need one! Just don’t kill her, please!”
Wait. Did he just say Grails? Plural? And… did he just refer to that plant like it’s a person?
Seeing as how the light is giving off Manjew's tattoos like in the HA OP the Grail's been corrupted already.
Integer I swear to fucking god if Marshall caught Ilona while we were knocked out and is in front of us
>>”What are you talking about?"
Ah
I see now.
The girls are the flowers which are in turn grails.
That's why they called the Einzbern fakes.
And why there are so many Servants.
So destroying them...
Might kill the girls we met earlier.
Was Angie really Angie or was it a real illusion this time?
We're apparently one of the few things capable of destroying them..
And if write ins are disabled...
We're being manipulated!
>>
>>4017177
Who would have put an illusion in Marshall's mansion though? Mom and her forces are occupied. Would Caster be trying to sabotage her master? Or does the flower require our power used on it as a catalyst for some reason?
Or is it the mysterious predator?
>>
Allow me to put things in a different way.
Destroy the grail and you kill off Tomoe and Charlotte too.
Well, Charlotte might live through the destruction of the grail thanks to being near Ilona and able to make a new contract with her.
Tomoe however
Would die.
Anon, pretty sure there's the Flower Grail (Angie) and the Einzbern Grail (Ilona/Ivonne), as long as one's around the war will continue. Angie probably doesn't want to turn into Manjew so she's asking us to wreck the basement to stop her turning.
>>
>>4017198
This grail. We still have the Einzbern fakes.
The big issue right now is who does this grail serve best- Marshal. Is Marshal a friend? No. How good are our chances of getting a good deal out of him? Slim.
And did we not just promise a girl we would save her by destroying this flower? Yes.
Things will be touch and go once we do this but to be fair they already are, this assuredly removes one problem though.
Touch and go would be an improvement of our situation
This feels like we're about to get slapped by a BAD END.
That's the secret Anon, we've got 2 BAD flavours to choose from
Pretty sure 2/3 ends available to us at this point are bad ends.
Let's at least find out why Marshall has another grail in his basement before we kill it.
You lower your blades. Multiple Grails would explain the War’s myriad Servants, but you’ll need more information than that before you fully comprehend what’s going on. And if that lily is somehow a person, then destroying it would be...
“What are you talking about?” you demand.
“That flower,” the voice continues, “is my wife. When we were still very young, she fell ill. Terminally so. The poor angel didn’t deserve it. Can you imagine what it was like? To watch helplessly as the life slowly drains from someone you love?”
“I still don’t get how you ended up married to a plant,” you interject, urging him - Marshall - to continue.
“I looked for a way to save her, despite the fatal disease. And, ultimately, I found one. By pushing all the limits of my family’s magecraft, I was able to transfer her soul from her dying body to a new one. A reincarnation of sorts, into a long-lived flower of my own design. It’s not perfect - my dear Lily has spent over a decade without a proper human form - but she’s undeniably alive. With a Grail, I can finally give her the body she deserves. Healthy and full of life, like she’d always dreamed of having. Do you understand now? Killing the plant would be murder! Don’t steal away the second chance I’ve worked so hard to give her!”
If he’s telling the truth, then he’s right. To destroy the lily would be to snuff out an innocent and defenseless life. But you’re talking to an enemy right now. The pang of sympathy ices over. Your voice remains cold.
“And what’s this about multiple Grails?” you interrogate further.
“The Einzbern’s Grail has been in this land for decades,” Marshall explains. “I knew the next Holy Grail War would come in my lifetime, and I had to make sure I would win. I had years to study and replicate what already existed. Of course, it was far too complicated to copy perfectly. When the War came around, I summoned a Servant who could help me complete my project and secure a personal army to ensure my victory. Thus, now there are two Grails - my own, and the Einzberns’. If I had both, I could do even more for Lily, but I’ll settle for one. The Einzberns seem fond of you anyway, so perhaps they’ll give you theirs without a fight.”
“...What do you mean, fond of me?” That can’t be right. You’ve never even met an Einzbern.
No reply comes. Suddenly, large roots burst through the workshop’s floor, forming a tight defensive dome around the flower.
>>
“You don’t remember, do you?” A different masculine voice, filled with confidence, echoes into the workshop from the entrance. You turn and see a man in his thirties, with short brown hair and a matching beard, dressed in a butler’s attire. His green eyes seem equal parts amused and mocking from the door. “The other Caster has been busy, it seems.” Other Caster? You jump onto a table to avoid the vine that rips through the stone beneath you. Next to you, one of Marshall’s plant projects suddenly stirs; you barely have time to roll away from the swiping branch. “You were probably seduced by a traitorous creation, too. Some things never change.”
Then, he says something you can’t understand. The workshop begins to fill with an odd mist. A hand axe appears in his grip as he strides into the room. You’re alone against a Servant!
>>Attack with everything you have! You may not be able to kill him, but maybe you can immobilize him long enough to flee!
Since the potted plants are alive now and making it hard to move around the room, we can't have a repeat of the Archer fight and not have enough room to move.
Wait so “...What do you mean, fond of me?” That can’t be right. You’ve never even met an Einzbern.
Did we forget who Illonahole is? Or are they actually REAL fake Einzberns, not just humunculii made by them? How fucked has this second Caster made our mind and when did it start?
