>Anno Domini 547, of the Third Age...

The tropical sun beats down on you terribly, but the sea breeze is an adequate remedy. Walking the streets of this human colony in the New World, it'll take some getting used to in your new clothes but you don't have a lot of options. As a goblin, and a lady, you don't want people to mistake you for an orc child or a slave, so you'll brave the environment in a proper dress if it means being taken... somewhat more seriously.

"Ay, perdón señora!" a man carrying a box nearly tramples you, but notices at the last minute and makes way for you... something he would not have done if you didn't appear nice and proper.

"It's fine... ah, no problema."

Ever since being hauled across the ocean as a prisoner though, and escaping, you've kept a delicate balance between emulating the humans and staying true to your goblin ways. You have no love of the humans, but you have dreams of taking control of their colony and ruling over them. To do this, with any hope of success and permanency, you'll have to play their game now and then.

Like your presence in town this morning, for example. Looking for a place to live, a home you can call your own. In your time here you've earned or stolen enough money for it, now it's just a matter of figuring out what sort of home you want and where you can find it.

The humans, since their original discovery of this "new world", have begun colonizing the region but the effort is still in its infancy. The main focus as you've heard, is towards the uncharted continental lands beyond, and so many explorers and "conquistadors" they call them, come to and from these islands as a stopping point between the Old World and the New and oftentimes back again.

Since the last time and your arrival to this land, you've managed to familiarize yourself with the region, the people and settlements and the current trends. You've also become friendly with some of the declining native elves, in particular having found a ruined settlement of theirs and plundering some treasure. Perhaps most importantly though, to you, is that you've been maintaining faith to the goblin gods and fostering their presence (as new as yours) in this land by setting up shrines and a temple. For your offerings to them you've received various blessings, and this in conjunctions with your skills as a rogue and a decent grasp of alchemy, should help towards your goals of establishing a goblin homeland in this New World. A homeland which your kind lacked in the Old world, but has promise of here.

The town here, Maracan, is the only notable human settlement on this side of the island. And therefore, is the only notable bastion of civilization in this strange and wild land. The thought of living side by side with humans is distasteful to you, but the thought of owning an actual bed rather than sleeping on the ground is appealing. Besides, if your goal is to rule over these people somehow or other, then you need at least some familiarity with them and a base of operations in their midst so to speak.

The town has only been around for a few decades though so it's not the biggest settlement you've set foot in for sure. Short of actually building yourself a home, you'll likely have to obtain lodging from someone else. It's just a matter of money, and what you're willing to accept as a home.

>Temporary lodging, like staying at an inn, is fine for now. Plus you can afford it indefinitely.
>Let a home, you might be able to find someone who owns a home in town that you could rent (but not own) for the time being, and you could afford it.
>Buy out a portion of a building, like the upstairs of a home or the cellar. You'll need to gather all your savings (aside of the treasure) for this however, and it will mean sharing a living space.
>You want an actual, nice home for yourself! To do this however, you will need to find a way to sell off the treasure you've looted.

But rent a place where we won't need to ahare living space with another family, we can buy something later if needed

At the moment you are staying at a tavern, the same one you are familiar with and you're a regular and welcome customer. Of course you could just stay there indefinitely, as long as it takes for you to bring your plans to fruition. But for your purposes, something more significant is preferable. You want a home rather than a room, where you have the space to call your own and use as you please. Working on a contract to guarantee your time there, rather than paying each day for your lodging.

With that in mind then, it narrows your search down considerably. Renting is not such a common practice in these times and especially not in a colonial settlement. Your best bet would probably be to find someone who owns a home but doesn't regularly use it for whatever reason. That way you could just pay to house-sit the place basically, though you expect some difficulty even there for being a goblin.

But hey, at least you're on your own here and they would know it, so it's not like you're moving in with friends and family. If you can also pay, then you think you have a chance of it...

Well that's where you've been staying the last several days since your return to town from the wild interior of the island. They certainly enjoy having you as a customer, but when you've got plans involving alchemy at the very least... well, it's not exactly reasonable to be experimenting in a tavern.

After most of the day spent on foot, actually searching around town in person, you have to wonder if there's a better way. Count on the humans with all their proper and official ways, of having just what you're looking for in the colonial exchange house which you're able to find your way to eventually after asking around enough. Mostly the establishment oversees the trade that takes place (with such a big focus on what the local plantations grow to be shipped back to the Old world) as well as the comings and goings of ships, a particular importance to the conquistadors. It does however handle more mundane concerns such as property records.

"I doubt they would be willing to... well, deal with someone of your demeanor, but there are some sorts you could try."

To even get in the place you have to demonstrate that you're well-to-do or at least present yourself that way, with some bribes. But asking the right questions you can find that there are three options available to you in town. The fellow you're dealing with though doesn't think a goblin will get very far trying to deal with the relevant persons. But it can't hurt to try, especially when you can jingle a purse of monies in front of them.

So with a scrap of paper and some scrawled writing by the helpful sir, you have an idea of three places you could go. Whether you'll be successful in negotiating for them is another matter entirely, but you're actually on a lead now rather than wandering aimlessly and just looking about for a place to live.

>The first is a small storage house at the docks, owned by a sea captain who makes the voyage across the ocean and back. Since he's gone for most of the year, you could make use of the place.
>The second is a fancy home in the center of town which belongs to one of the plantation families. They only make use of it when they visit town on occasion, so you could basically pay to house sit the home the rest of the time, which was an idea you had.
>The third is a small but empty home on the far side of town (but still within the walls), that is a church property now as left by the previous owner upon death. The church hasn't had much a chance to use it besides charity housing, but you could rent the place and they would welcome the income.

All the options have some appeal to you, but at the end of the day it's the third that wins out. Partly because it's empty so you have more freedom to do as you wish with it, but mostly because it's the easiest to negotiate for. The church doesn't ask for too much, and they have a more... tolerant attitude towards non-humans, particularly goblins since by their faith, one of their saints is a goblin.

In any case there's plenty of papers to sign and church officials to meet with and bow before, all that nonsense of playing along with the humans and their decorum. By nightfall though, you are now the proud tenant of a home. The pride is tempered by the fact that you don't actually own anything yet, but none in your family have ever lodged in an actual house. If only your parents could see you now!

"Aaaahh... they look like bugs from up here!"

Leaning on one of the windowsills of the second floor, it's an unfamiliar sight and experience to be able to look down over humans. Something you could get used to, you think. Well in any case, you can navigate about the home and familiarize yourself with all the rooms. More or less what you'd expect, a living area on the ground floor, a kitchen and storage room, and then for the upstairs a couple bedrooms and what had been a study.

It's a fairly small residence all things considered, and it's near enough completely empty, but to you it feels like a grand mansion! Though you are only a temporary tenant so you probably won't fully furnish the place but it couldn't hurt to get a few furniture items... a bed, most particularly. Unpacking your personal belongings in the bedroom you decide to take as your own, you're already imagining how you might want to lay the place out.

But the night is young, and you no longer have to carry all your possessions on your back, making travel around town or anywhere else for that matter much more appealing.

Knowing what is around your new home could be useful, but you feel like you'd rather just celebrate. You haven't been in this strange new land all that long, but already you've managed success for yourself, something you are both thankful for and brings you great happiness. When they kidnapped you and put you in chains, you thought your life was over let alone that nightmarish journey across the ocean as a captive in the bottom of a boat.

But since then it's only been upwards, and already you've done so well for yourself... an unpleasant thought even, that you've done better here, possibly than you or your family ever had back in the Old world. Either way, for your new life and new fortune here, you feel like celebrating is long overdue.

And who better, than with your half-elven acquaintances on the outskirts of town? They too have been dealt a bad hand in life, and you'd like to return the favor they showed you by letting you into their midst to begin with.

---

It's not an easy journey for a little goblin such as yourself, let alone one having to carry many quality bottles. And by no means is the night young after what is normally a couple hours walk. But there's still a few people up and about by the time you reach the community on the outskirts of town.

"Zujenia! What are you doing out at this time?"

"Hey everyone, Zuzu's back!"

"Don't kill yourself with all that, here let me help!"

Some are just up late and enjoying themselves around a fire already anyway, while some have only just returned home after a grueling day of work, and some even awake to come and see you. In any case you're warmly welcomed back and afforded much attention, especially when you come bearing gifts for all of them! As lat as it is, you probably can't expect a full-on party, but by all means you can certainly celebrate with several half-elven folk late into the night and early hours of the morning.

>Just enjoy a pleasant time among friends for some time, before getting to bed in the small home they set aside for you.
>You're here to have some fun! Encourage and participate in whatever merriment and games they get up to!

It's not just a celebration, you came to have some fun too! On their own the half-elves might have kept things civil enough, but it's hard to keep things that way when there's a rowdy goblin slinging drinks and encouraging folks to cut loose. Before long you're in the thick of a small party around the fire; lively conversation and bawdy stories, an instrument or two to play for some dancing in their curious mix of human and elven styles, gambling games and even a good-spirited fight or two. All of this, fueled along by the bottles of drink you brought along with their own local concoctions.

And ironically enough, were this a human party it wouldn't be enough most likely, but these half-elves don't hold their drink too well as their elven side succumbs easily. Compared with your small size, they make decent drinking buddies compared to humans who can manage better than you, or elves who are easily floored. All in all though you have a lovely time, and all the more rewarding as a celebration for your recent good fortunes since arriving to these new lands. It certainly lifts your spirits and restores your hopes in accomplishing something meaningful here.

Now if only you had someone to share it all with...

"Ahah! Wh-What are you... I think you might have had too much to drink, Zuzu..."

"Noooot too muchhh fer thishhh! Cummon lemme shhhhee, heeere I showww you mineee!"

Late into the night things eventually settle down more as some folks tire themselves out having fun, and others need to get to bed for tomorrow. Along the way though you latched onto Toba, the half-elven fellow who you know has feelings for you, clinging onto him to prevent his departure. All for the purpose of course, to get yourself a bed warmer. He's embarrassed enough by your increasing displays of affection to him by the fire to the point where he tries to help you off to bed, but once you're out of sight of anyone else you redouble your efforts. Loosing your blouse to put the goods on display while you try to get at his pants, the only thing you're able to reach of him at your height. He may be right that you've had a lot to drink but at the same time you can feel him, and know that you've gotten him in the mood even if he tries to deny it.

More than anything though it's his elven-side sensibilities, because of their longer lifespans they have a complicated and very long courtship process. His affection for you is predicated on the idea of many months to years even of familiarity before something significant as intimacy. Contrasted with your goblin ways and how life is very short and your kind acts on what they want, when they want it, he's rather overwhelmed by you to say the least.
>>
>Maybe he's right, you wouldn't want to do anything you'd regret for being drunk. Besides, the more you think of it, the more incompatible you realize you may be.

Oh sure, maybe he's right, maybe you've had too much to drink and need his help to get back to your little house. Oh what a helpful gentleman he is, helping you to bed and oh! If it wouldn't be too much trouble, he could help you out of your clothes? You sleep that way of course. Oh how kind, and if he wouldn't mind laying down with you for just a little bit to help you get to sleep? How good of him...

You may be a little tipsy, but lucid enough for this, to know what you're doing. Each step of the way you trick and lure him another step further, till eventually he's got a bare goblin sitting on his chest and pinning him to the ground while choking on her tongue. Partly it's the party, partly it's the long time since knowing a male's touch, but you overwhelm the poor half-elf with your hunger. Though he keeps trying to stop you or at least slow you down, your drive to push on is stronger, for one so small. Not to mention fast either, he's still trying to catch his breath from the kissing when you're already yanking at his pants. All in all, pretty characteristic of the differences between you, and how much faster your life is in every aspect compared to his. Though you do encounter a physiological obstacle in his ability to perform so to speak, given how intimacy as well as courtship for even half-elves takes a significant amount of time. But you're not going to let that stop you! You're removing the training wheels with explosives here, as you coax what performance you can from him, and he can just bite down and scream into the pillow between hyperventilating as his body strains to try and keep up with yours... when his max speed is ten and your average speed is one hundred, so to speak.

"Please, Zujenia! Half-elves... our bodies can't handle this!"

"Whelll gobbo bodysh cannn!"

In any case, when it comes to half-elven meat, you get your fill... in many senses of the word! The size difference between you is another physiological obstacle, but one your body can deal with better than his body can deal with the first obstacle. Thanks largely in part in your case, to downing all those drinks. The end result; a raunchy little green creature grunting and slapping away on top of a poor half-elf looking like he's suffering a heart attack, deathly pale and fighting for every breath.

"...I-I-I... I-I c-c-can't..."

"-unf, unf, unf, yeshh! Dasss da good shtuff! Hnnngh!"

"...c-c-can't... t-t-take it..."

Yes, a sordid sight indeed. Two highly mismatched figures panting for breath as one, glistening with sweat as one, and slapping away into the night as one... somehow, despite being species separated by oceans of water and time, biology finds a way...

Your own snoring like a pig wakes you up, as there's not enough light otherwise. You wonder what time it must be for it to be as dim, but lifting your head out of your own drool to hazily look around, you can see that it is indeed morning already but someone drew the hut covering closed... you think you know who, as you smile your fangs and sleepily nuzzle against the half-elven chest you'd been sleeping, drooling, and snoring on.

The very same half-elf who lies awake, probably not having slept at all, staring mortified and silent at the roof of the hut.

Enjoy lazying around in the morning some more, no haste for now.

What a lovely way to wake up in the morning, you could certainly get used to it. You're not so sure if your partner could though.

"Mmmmm... good morning, did you have a good time?"

"...you're young enough to be my granddaughter... do you know that?"

"Awww, so sowwy gwanpa! Guess I been a baaad giiiwl..."

You laugh it off and nuzzle amorously against him some more, though it's obvious that he's more than a little disturbed by what happened. Like he fancied an idealized impression of you as a proper and capable lady, but found out the hard way that you're just a salacious little green monster. Not that you're particularly sorry, at all, for shattering his fantasies.

"So, my big strong plantation worker... you got any more sugar for me? Some more sweetness in my bowl would really hit the spot."

"You're not... talking about... again?!" purring as you rest your chin on his chest, you look up at him with hungry eyes, while he looks genuinely afraid of your intentions, "I told you, half-elves... we can't, our bodies don't work that way. If you tried... what you did last night with a full-elf, you'd have killed him."

Bah, lightweight. He tries to explain something about their hearts not being able to handle it, like anything with elves they need a long time to "prepare" for anything. It's all nonsense to you of course; goblins want what they want, when they want, and if you get the chance you take it! You don't mind Toba, but if you should end up... breaking him, you wouldn't shed too many tears in replacing him. Still, it's rather humorous that you can withstand something he cannot when he's so much bigger than you, chalk it up to goblin fortitude you suppose.

In any case you can keep it simple for now, just appreciating his company for a time before you resolve to get up and get ready for the day.

"You... want to get something to eat?"

"I don't think I can walk." he responds as plainly as possible.

"Fine, I'll do it."

Throwing on a gown then, you can fetch some food for the both of you before returning to the hut and opening it up some. In the light to see him more clearly, maybe he's not being overly dramatic because he does look worse for the wear, gaunt and pale. He's at least able to sit up and eat on his own though, while you scarf down your breakfast and get dressed.

"That's... that's strange..."

"Hmm?"

"I had a pretty nasty cut on my hand, accident with a knife in the fields... it's gone now though, fully healed."

Ah right, that handy little blessing of your goblin Mother goddess. Whether it be through swapping spit or simply the act itself, it seems that your little romp last night with Toba healed him of any injuries or poor health, or at least your body healed him. Nice to see you're still benefiting from the favor of the goddess.

Well in any case, you finally get your shoes on and move to your feet, to kiss Toba goodbye for now, you standing at full height able to reach his face while he's only sitting... something you can tell disturbs him but delights you for humorous reasons. Since you're probably headed back to town, you may not be seeing him for awhile, at least not till you've done up your new rented home with a place to stay for guests.

>Before you go, you had some remaining business here in the half-elven community?
>Time to sell that treasure! Get back to town, and start searching around for anywhere you could exchange the gold.

Let Toba and the half-elf that we first met know where we are staying if they need something they could seek us out.
and see how things are going for the trader bedore departing, check if he learned something and is not being cheated again.

The half-elf you first met is the trader, Moro, the same guy. You can let him and Toba know about your new living situation though, and about the full-elf you immunized and what could be done in regards to him if he shows up.

Otherwise, you'll make your departure for town again. You can probably reach your new neighborhood a little after midday or so, go ahead and make a roll 1d100 to see what you can find around your home.

It's a cloudy day out but still hot as always, however the nearer you get to town the more bearable it is thanks to the sea breeze. With most taking to their daily siesta, the streets aren't so busy by the time you get there, so the perfect chance to go exploring around the neighborhood of your newly rented home.

Though you're supposed to be keeping an eye out for interesting or useful places, but you can't help giggling and holding your face constantly from the lingering afterglow of your romantic endeavors last night. The joyful feeling of having a bond with someone again, and the warm and pleasant sensation inside.

So giddy, that you don't notice being followed.

"Oye niña."

"Hmmm? What is- ach!"

The wallop of a club to your head and the disorientation of being shoved hard by someone much bigger than you, down an alleyway. Knocked to the rough ground, you try to gather your bearings and reach your feet, but darkness envelops you as a sack is pulled over your tiny form. Screaming and struggling, you fitfully try to escape or bite and claw your way out of the bag, till a swinging sensation and a sudden impact. White flash of shock, and all goes dark, as whomever was responsible simply bundled you up in the bag and then swung the whole thing into a wall to silence you.

~~~
Dreams, strange dreams...
"...bwuhhh?"
The rattling of chains awakens you, as you look around with your goblin sight to guess that you're on the floor of some dark cellar. In an elevated area above, the only light source, you can see a few humans and an orc talking.
"She's a thief, I want her to suffer."
"She'll suffer but... it's not a normal death, you may know."
"If she steals from Don Pedro, nothing is too good for her."
Seeing that you've been stripped down to your undergarments, immediately you start looking for routes of escape. Thankfully you yourself are not chained, you can move freely but by the make of the room you can't see an easy way out. Caressing your aching head then, you stagger to your feet and try to move around, which the humans notice.
"Ah, she's awake!"
"Good, goblin scum! Much better if she sees it, I want to hear her scream."
The most well-dressed human spits down at you from above, his apparent hated of you quite obvious. What they have in mind though remains clear, but from rattling chains down in the dark cellar with you... you can only imagine.
>What do you do?
Pray for the ancient goblin gods that survived hardships, se will need them now I think, claw our arm and offer them our blood as sacrifice
Look for a way up, or somewhere we can climb up there.
One of the humans (the fancy-dressed one) you think you vaguely recognize, but you're not sure from where... the other two and the orc though, you've no idea. Maybe it's not too late for you though, you try to think fast and stall for time while you look around.
"...wh-why... why d-did you bring me here?"
"Look at that, she can talk!"
You get a piece of fruit thrown at you for your trouble by the man who clubbed you in the first place, while the fanciest fellow leans on the edge with an angry look.
"Over a week ago, on an outing through town, would you believe that I was robbed? The contents of my pockets and purse, stolen! I wondered what wretch may do such a thing, but to my surprise I hear that I was not the only one to be robbed! And rumors of a goblin abound..."
Now you think you recognize him, one of the unluckies you pickpocketed on your first foray into town. While speaking he gestures for the orc, who leaves your sight from the elevated area but then emerges into the cellar via a caged door up a small flight of stairs. One escape you suppose, but not at the moment with the orc there.
"...nonsense I think, there are no goblins this side of the sea! Surely it is just common rumors; when there is thievery, blame goblins, present or not. But I wonder if you can imagine my surprise, when not only should I become aware of a goblin indeed, but that she was living in the city now... one would assume because of new money!"
The orc, who you can get a better look at now and is dressed and decorated quite primitively in some sort of ceremonial outfit, opens the caged door but doesn't step too far in. Simply he just whispers something onto a few small bones in his hand, and chucks them at you. Some hit, some just land at your feet, but the orc quickly shuts the caged door as you hear the rattling chains take up... and now groaning? A shambling shape in the darkness, you can somewhat make it out as a person thanks to your goblin sight, but something is clearly wrong with them... and something smells, dead...
Fearful now of whatever fate they have in mind for you, you pray to your gods for help!
>The two gods you have favor with are Vorli and Marda. Although this situation isn't particularly relevant to either of them, in your time of need you can beseech them for salvation for a +5.
Frightened by the sight of the shambling undead, you pray to your gods as the monster nears. Hoping for salvation but settling for some momentary peace of mind... enough for the inspiration, like that of a certain goblin god of adventure, to evade the zombie.
"I hope I'm pregnant so that my death will curse you even in the eyes of your god!"
Will a little courageous defiance, you gather up some of the bones and try to toss a few at the fancily dressed humans... you hit him but he doesn't seem worried.
"What a ghastly thought, more goblins around here..."
Down in the cellar here, there's not much you have to work with but it's not empty. In a quick run then you duck past the zombie as it lunges for you, and scamper up some barrels. Here your rogue skills really come in handy as you navigate the difficult terrain, and keep just out of reach of the zombie as you climb along whatever you can.
"Agh, she's dragging it out!"
"Just accept your death, you scum! Otherwise we'll just set the dogs on you!"
The onlookers hurl insults and eventually bits of rubbish trying to get you to fall down. Eventually though, thanks to your goblin vision in the dark you can see where the zombie is actually chained to the corner. So with your back against the wall you push with all your might through your legs to topple the barrel onto the zombie. Just a moment's distraction you need to get to the floor bolt and a lock on this end of the chain.
"Ha... haHA! There you go!"
Being a rogue of course, you always have at least some tiny tools ready, like in your hair, behind your ears or in your mouth. Making quick work of it in the dark corner you manage to unchain the zombie from this end, without the onlookers noticing yet.
Then, it's just a matter of scampering about past the zombie once it pushes the barrel off, and making for the gated door.
"Hold on, she's got something there."
"She's opening it! She's opening the door!"
"What?! HOW?!"
Fools, complete idiots to underestimate you. For one, not checking you fully to find your typical hidden tools, and for another not accounting for your masterful roguish skills. Quicker than they can reach the other side of the door, you've gotten it unlocked and just in time as the zombie lumbers up the stairs... to throw the cursed bones through the gate at the humans and hoist yourself up to the ceiling above the gated door, allowing the zombie to crash into it beneath you. The force of the monster, throwing the door open to smack right into the humans on the other side.
And of course the screams and awful sounds as the zombie sets upon the first victim it can find. You can't imagine this will go on for much longer, as the orc approaches with probably some means of stopping it all. But the door is open and your own trap is sprung. It's now or never, to rush out and avoid anyone who might stop your escape!
>What do you do? Is simply escaping your primary concern, or do you have unfinished business here before you want to leave?
awesome!
how fast is mister zombie? shambling corpse or cheater fast zombie?
I got an idea, the orc was clearly afraid of the thing when he summoned/woke it up since he fled the cellar very quickly.
My idea is to wait until he starts hios chant and push him to the monster, or throw a rock or something at his mouth, distract him long enough for the zombie to rip him to pieces
then, ideally, we can find a way out and bar the door so that the zombie can go to town on all of them, a little house of horrors
Zuzu would probably sit back by the door and hear everything until the last scream
>>
After pulling that crazy little stunt, no doubt thanks to the favor of the gods, you're feeling... still frightened for your life in this dangerous situation, but more confident now than when you first regained consciousness. Your instincts drive you to escape above all else, but quick thinking you know that the danger for you won't end just because you got out of here. How much you can actually hope to accomplish as you are, remains to be seen but you have to try and the more damage you can inflict upon these people the better.
Now, on your own there's little a lone goblin girl can do. But the zombie presents some options now that you see it doesn't discriminate on who it goes after. Not a very fast undead but a big and strong one, an orc no less. Under the right circumstances... and if you're careful, you might be able to turn the tables on your captors and wield their killing machine against them!
First thing's first though, you have to find some way of preventing the orc from stopping this scheme of yours. You have the thought to try and tell or convince him to help you out, but honestly wouldn't expect that to get very far under positive circumstances let alone this chaotic situation.
"Ay! Off, get her off!"
"Just grab her, kill her if you have to! The zombie is the threat!"
The undead continues to be a great distraction, as you clamor down the door gate and jump onto one of the human's heads. They who'd been occupied trying to force the zombie off their comrade with a wooden bench, they'd temporarily forgotten you but the guy angrily tries to throw or bash you off him. You're just using him to reach the floor again, and from there can attempt something to prevent the orc shaman from regaining control of the zombie or some equivalent.
>Make a roll, 1d100, if you have some plan to incapacitate the orc. Without him, these humans will have a very hard time dealing with the zombie.
The orc shaman is your target, and however you can disable him... even if you have to hit below the belt, is your bet. From one of the humans then, as they still struggle to try and force the zombie back into the cellar, you can steal the knife from his belt.
"Pull ya friend here, can't de pass here ba'!"
By now the shaman though has inscribed something on the floor, telling the humans to retreat past it to his side. He's speaking some incantation or other, voodoo business no doubt, but you're not going to wait to find out what it is. Rushing for him then, you make a lunge with the dagger in front of you to stab him in the groin or at least the upper thigh area, and in the process sever some braided and beaded belt hanging from his waist from your slash.
"ARGH! Stepe bitch!"
"-aie!"
Your attack draws his focus very angrily to you, and out of immediate response he kicks you with the strength of an orc that sends you shooting the wall, hard as if he'd kicked a ball. The shock of the impact and the pain greatly debilitates you, and you try but fail to stand with a yelp, holding the sharp pain in your side. The orc probably would have finished the job as well and comes to stomp and crush you into the floor, but falters after a few paces... clutching at his chest and breathing sharply.
"No... she dun... no, NO! Sum bad ba', big ba-"
His anger shifts to panic as he glances back to check on the voodoo inscription on the floor, his blood you spilled spread over the symbol markings... and starting to glow and steam. Hastily he tries to warn the humans, but his attempt to correct or even wipe away the markings is met a sudden loss of all lights and sounds in the room, in the area. Only the moonlight trickling through a high window and some... faint whispers, some language strange to you? The others notice it as well, shortly before the bloody steam appears to blow out, and a green glow appears emanating from the cracks of the stones. Increasingly in glowing intensity, the green light quickly starts to spread across the floor, up the walls and every surface; a ghostly light shining out of every crack and space between every brick and stone of the ground floor here. And with it, an increase in the whispering.
It doesn't... seem dangerous, yet, but it's very disturbing for things to be completely silent otherwise, even as you can make out the humans still struggling against the zombie in the increasing green light. Maybe if you could understand the whispering you might be scared, but it's some jostling of the stones you're laying against that startles you. Once again you try and fail to reach your feet, but can at least crawl away from the wall in time to see some of the smaller stones being... pulled into that green glow between (and apparently now behind) them. Only the little stones in the floors and walls and ceiling at first but you notice gradually bigger and bigger stones starting to shake as well.
And in the gaps made by the removed stones, out of the light you can see... odd little faces. Like little dolls, with what appear to be masks of different expressions, trying to climb their way from out of the green void and through the gaps made by the stones being pulled out. And faintly visible beyond, other... things in the void. Again, none of it seems particularly threatening yet, but it makes you feel very uneasy... and the orc shaman you can see panicking, trying to patch up his leg and attempts to mend the ritual markings or even overpower them. More and more you're feeling you should get up, get out, run, but you're pretty badly injured to have trouble moving.
>What do you do?
>>
>>4041407
would drinking our own blood work?
Let's try to get up, judging by the ork this things are not friendly and they want blood, so if we can grab a distracted human and stab at his throat to feed the things that would be best (and possibly catastrophic by feeding the things kek)
>90, 74
Maybe you don't have to worry if you can figure out what these things want, and try communicating with them?
"H-Hello? You speak elvish?"
Some small relief to find that not all sound is gone, you can hear yourself, but it seems only sounds made by you. Everything else is dulled out, except for of course that strange whispering which the emerging figures seem to respond to you in. Not elvish then, the language of the orcs you have to assume which you don't know.
If you can't negotiate with the things then, your biggest aim now is to escape... certainly it appears the humans have the same thing in mind as you look to see them all but given up combating the zombie and now simply (attempting) to argue without sound about leaving their friend and escaping this place while the orc tries to regain some control.
"Blood..."
From your injury you cough up some blood on your hand, while trying to make it to your feet again. If blood was what started this though, maybe that's your way out of here, make things even more chaotic to cover your escape? Mustering all your strength then to bear the pain, you grab the dagger and limp over to the orc. Not very stealthy but the complete masking of sound covers your approach, not to mention the big greenie is currently busy.
The humans see you approach but don't regard you that much, facing this greater threat, you are low on their priorities now and they probably assume you drawing near them as a plea for help or something. Poised with the dagger though, you merely stand there for some moments so that they all get used to your presence and turn their attentions elsewhere... after which you take a breath and prepare yourself for another lunge at the kneeling orc. With both hands on the dagger hilt, you drive it right through the side of the orc's neck and then throw your whole body weight on the blade to force it down out of his throat.
"-hurk!"
It's not a perfect attack, not a lot more than a nasty stab but by no means did you open his throat. He is bleeding though and you certainly get his attention, as the orc in a fury grips your little neck ready to effortlessly crush it. And surely he would, and could, this being your untimely end! But the blood you spilled in greater amounts now, and directly over the symbol markings the orc had tried to mend, has immediate results. Right away a flash of red mist as the blood ignites upon the symbol and vaporizes into the air about you. Both you and the orc are left disoriented and coughing, losing his grip on you as he tries to shield his eyes and clutch at his neck, the wound now starting to get to him.
Before though it was just the creeping, glowing effect throughout the building but now there's a definite rumbling as larger and larger stones are not just pulled into the green void beyond, but instead are blasted free from the walls and ceiling. Chunks to slabs are knocked free exposing much greater portions of the void and allowing much bigger things to try and get through, as demonic hands start reaching through to grab at whatever they can. Following the little doll-like figures of course who by now are starting to pour through the gaps. And worse still, the whispers were the only other sounds before but now behind those whispers you can hear mournful wails and anguished screams emerging.
If it wasn't your cue to leave before, it is now, as the humans get the same idea more or less and scramble for the exit out of here, giving up on the orc and their friend altogether. One of them doesn't even make it to the door though, his leg caught when one of the floor stones gives out beneath him and a ghastly arm catches and starts pulling him. Seems like it's just you and Don Pedro now, struggling to escape as the void begins to encompass you.
>The moment you are able and see the chance, just seek whatever escape route you can that gets you away from here quick as possible.
So hot on Don Pedro's heels and malicious spirits hot on your own heels, you struggle and do your best to get out of this place as less and less of the cellar remains and more and more of the void creeps in. Not daring to look back, you reach the stairs and hastily climb them, rushing between Pedro's legs the moment he opens the door.
"Wretch! This is your fault!"
Having reached the ground floor and escaped the basement cellar, quickly sound and light return to you, seems at the moment only the lower floor is affected while the rest of the building remains intact. You hear Pedro shouting angrily after you between his calls for help, but you don't linger to hear or see any more of him. The only thing that matters now is escape at all costs.
So navigating your way through the building quickly, you start to make some sense of the place as a storage warehouse. Don Pedro is the master of one of the local plantations, so this place is probably his for storage of his goods before being shipped off at the docks in Maracan. You try not to linger though and seeking the exit, you pass by some confused workers or guards here and there but they seem more confused by you than hostile, particularly since word is getting out about something bad taking place below.
---
"Haaah... haaah..."
Panting heavily from exhaustion and having to run so far with your injuries, you collapse in the sandy grasses beside the road. A cloudy night but with the moon occasionally shining you can see that the warehouse is a little ways outside of town, bordering the road to one of the entrances. With nothing but a dagger and the rags on your back though, you're reluctant about returning to town yet. Just as well, you're not going to stick around and see what happens to the warehouse and all that voodoo trouble, but you can rest here for awhile until you're ready to move again.
And give thanks to the gods, feeling the grass and sand to your skin and the sea breeze across it, you're alive now thanks to them... you choose to believe anyway. Being caught, you were stripped of your belongings, your weapons, money and even your clothes, but even with nothing at all you still have the gods. Well, you may not be done yet seeking help from them, as your options are limited now.
At the very least you'd want to wait till daylight before returning to town, but perhaps even some days before that. A guess from looking at town along with the waters of the bay, and you think you're beyond the south side, so it's a significant distance to the half-elf community as well. The most important thing is to get off the roads, get away from anywhere you might be noticed, but that narrows things down...
Do we have more clothes and stuff at our house in the town or would we need to but everything again?
The treasure loot you still have hidden, buried. But all your other belongings you moved to the rented house. They may still be there, but if the humans knew where to look for you, you can guess they know where you live.
It stings you to potentially lose everything, but it's better than being dead as they had intended to kill you of course. And as said, there's always the treasure still...
Having other people to rely on is nice, but without knowing the full picture you wouldn't want to endanger anyone else. It seems the safest choice is to simply get out of here as soon as possible, and as far as possible away. The equivalent of pretending to be dead, so you don't have humans out for your head.
With that in mind then and enough time to rest where you feel you can move without too much pain, you begin your travel from the sandy marshes about the town, on to the waters of the bay where you can follow the shore and head upwards the nearest river among the several that feed into the bay.
With only rags to your name, it seems safer and smarter than trying to enter town again and being noticed...
---
The fall of light rain wakes you up, though you panic at first not sure of where you are, until memories of the night prior come creeping back. Yes, having traveled upriver then under darkness, you went as far as noticing a small docking building and the fires of a camp. Too risky to venture to it at night, but come morning you can approach (maybe posing as an orc child) or at least investigate to determine if you should continue past it further upriver.
First thing first though, you're a little hungry and could do with something to eat. So after rummaging around and climbing some trees for awhile you try to find some breakfast... not much luck this close to the river though, fish are obvious but you don't have the means to catch them.
"Wagh! What the..."
You'd just about given up for now, opting to either head deeper into the forest or try begging for food at the camp. Some dark movement at the corner of your eye scares you however, but it's not some moving shape nor does it just go away. A dark shape across the ground, looks like a little... person? Pointing at a particular tree, and originating from...
"My feet... my shadow?!"
Well no wonder it resembles a little person, it's your own figure cast faintly on the ground by the sun between the clouds. Without moving yourself, it seems animated enough to indicate towards a tree which upon your observing, you can see plenty of fruit hidden among the foliage...
...that's breakfast you suppose, but you're not sure what to make of this shadow business. Hopefully it won't hinder your effort towards the camp?
>What do you do?
>>
>>4045086
Take the breakfast
Write on the ground for the shadow
"Are you from the magic at the cellar?"
See if we can communicate by sound gestire or scribing with it.
Ask about name and what it wants if we can.
Whatever it says, let's steal some kids clothes and assume the orc child persona.
Go back to the half elf village but stay away, check how things are around it.
You're not too keen on the shadow, but accepting help from it doesn't hurt and you are hungry after all. Climbing the tree and gathering a few handfuls, you have something to munch on while you sit under foliage covering for the morning rains, and contemplate this strange new development.
"Can you talk? No..."
After eating the fruit and washing your sticky hands and face in the river, you begin trying to communicate with and understand the shadow. Both writing and simply talking seems to work, however the shadow itself seems incapable of sound. You ask about its origin from the cellar and get a thumbs up, though a response to the writing on the ground comes... proving the shadow, eerily, is capable of physically affecting the world when a little response is given in the sand. It's just very much slower than a thumbs up gesture.
"I... am... Zujenia?"
Your next effort is to try and learn about the shadow itself, what it is and what it wants. You just get affirmations from it however, that it is you and wants what you want... whether you choose to believe it or not is up to you, but it's not like you can force answers out of it.
Beyond that, well it creeps you out and having no control over it is distressing, but the thing at least seems harmless for now so you'll have to just accept it. If the worst you got for escaping from that voodoo nightmare was a shadow curse, then you can accept that. Could be a lot, a lot worse.
---
Having had yourself a breakfast then, you cautiously make your way towards the camp, while your shadow creeps along behind you and looking rather odd for not matching your movements.
Close enough to the camp and you can see it's occupied by laborers, including some actual full-blooded elves. None of them look too pleased to be here, probably in part because of a few demanding work overseers.
"Right you all, be ready to leave for the river in a quarter-hour!"
"And don't forget the daily quota of gold!"
Ah right, this must be the gold-panning efforts you heard about, and saw a little of on your journey into the wilds before. Seems some humans are trying to strain what little gold they can out of the waters, with a largely enslaved workforce. Interesting seeing the elves here though, they must be immune to the old world diseases so you have to wonder how many of them there used to be if there's a fair amount here that survived... probably the gathered few survivors from many tribes who lived in the area in decades past.
>>
In any case you can sneak and steal some clothes... no children here you notice so unfortunately it's ill-fitting adult clothes you have to try and tie-off or roll up. But it's definitely better than rags. Now just a consideration if you want to get involved with this endeavor in some way, or continue on up the river... you could go check on your half-elven friends, but since you came this way to escape notice, you'll probably want to give it several days at least before reaching out to your contacts.
>What do you do?
>>
Lets test the shadow out, ask if it can go in front of us? And if it can tell her to look for documents to check who runs the show and if it is Don Pedro.
You can try to understand this shadow business more properly later on, but for now it could help to at least figure it out a little more. Starting by getting a better idea of what your shadow is capable of before you start going around the camp.
"Um... how far can you go?"
As you find out, your shadow can distort itself pretty well, and reach out about ten feet or so which is a lot given your small size. Beyond that though, it is connected to you so it's not like you can tell it to just go off on its own to accomplish things. Still, having an effective reach of about ten feet longer is pretty impressive, as well as an extra set of "eyes" and "ears".
For now though best to keep it reigned in as you go about the camp as to not draw attention.
"Go away kid!"
"Where are your parents?"
"A child has no business here, begone!"
It seems you draw enough attention already as an unaccompanied child, but mostly you're just seen as an annoyance rather than something suspicious. This suits you well for the time being because it allows you to traipse about the place poking and prodding without much risk; any times you get caught, you just get yelled at or hit, but about as much as you'd expect for a naughty child rather than a scheming adult goblin.
As you find soon enough, this endeavor here has nothing to do with any Don Pedro. The effort is run by humans, another conquistador type of man, but your impression is that this was a group of adventuring sorts who traveled inland and enslaved a bunch of elves to drag back and force to work the river. Apparently this isn't even the only operation like this on the same river, and since they have no official connection to the town or colonial effort, you wonder if you couldn't just settle upriver ahead of everyone else and with some more goblins to help you could get your own operation going and undercut everyone else.
"Heya, can we talk for a bit?"
"...what? How does an orc child know our language?"
You continue to skulk about till the humans (often violently) encourage everyone to get to work and head a ways upriver where the gold-seeking effort of this group takes place. During this time you're able to find where the gold is brought back though and can easily swipe a small bag of dust. Once the camp is mostly vacated though, you'd planned to wait till nightfall but exploring around you find some womenfolk, humans and orcs and elves who understandably remained behind. Wives or caretakers in the camp, a few of them closely minding their children.
Easy enough to approach a couple of the elven women then and engage them with their native language, explaining yourself some and trying to learn more about them. Particularly their presence here without getting sick?
"There were many more of us before."
"Us few are those who survived the sickness."
A rather morbid reality you come to learn, the elven laborers you see here are maybe a tenth of their original number enslaved. Like the other elves you know, this lot were from a tribe farther inland before their home was raided and they were captured and brought here. Most died, these few were those lucky enough or whose fortitude was enough, to be able to survive. Makes sense you suppose, even if it's only an extreme minority, it's not like the various illnesses would kill off a full 100% of the native population. Some would be able to survive and adapt, and that's what you're looking at now. Probably the same as with those occasional full-elves you saw back in town, those few who survived human contact compared to how many of them there must have been before.
Your efforts of attempting to immunize the elves, by contrast is simply you trying to save all of them, rather than just those few capable of surviving already and not needing your help.
In any case your politeness and familiarity with the elves, their ways and their language, earns you cautious welcome among them. You're a stranger for sure, but they're willing to let you stay with them since you seem harmless enough and just some tiny little creature they've never seen before. Although the conditions here are obviously dismal, but it's a place for you in this camp if you want it.
>What do you do?
>>
>>4052340
well, we are laying low so we can spend a few days, first, learning how many are here, second looking at their dayly routine of the caretakers, so we can see an opportunity for mass poisoning to steal the gold and free these dudes to cause some chaos
I would suggest the same poison we used before but to prepare an antidote too so we can save people we did not intend to kill.
we can use their pans and pots, flasks and whatever other utensils to improvise a lab
>>
>>4052389
Ok, sure, it's always good to take these guys down a peg and some elves back in the jungle to raid and help would not hurt.
But let's do some other stuff first
First thing we should do is find a secluded place and build our 5th shrine in this island, in honor of the adventure god as thanks for surviving the undead house of horrors.
Check with the elves if they would like to escape, build rapport by healing the workers during the night and telling them to thank the elven gods, like we did in the ruins, its time to replace their gods.
And then we can see what we can do about a break out.
Over the coming few days then you can dwell among the elves in the camp, a chance for you to lay low as much as it is to learn more about this operation. In this time you can not only steal things you might need like cookware (to go along with foraging for ingredients) but also you can learn more about these people and their work. To your estimates, there are about twenty elves, ten orcs, and fifteen humans so definitely the humans are outnumbered. The problem you pretty quickly learn however, is that to your surprise and perhaps horror too, not many of the laborers want to be free of this place and basically none want to see the humans dead. On the one hand while their lives are pretty awful here, they see it as necessary protection from other humans; if they were free as they had been before and living in the wilds, more humans would just come along to raid and kill them. Whereas if they're already associated with humans, then others will generally leave them alone.
Largely it seems to you, that these people simply don't know better, of what their lives could be like otherwise. Afraid of the unknown, they seem to prefer a bad situation to something potentially worse. And while it pains you to admit, you'd like to show them a better life but you're not even sure there actually is one. Certainly the conditions here are better than the plantations, which might be their only other options.
And besides all this, no one wants the humans dead because it would just bring ire down upon everyone from the humans. They bring up how recently, a conquistador and his group ventured inland but wound up dead, only their remains found later on. Well in response to this, many humans took out blind vengeance against whatever elves or half-elves they could find, so it's feared about the same thing happening again here if all these humans dropped dead.
Yes, all in all a rather bleak prospect and a bit depressing to see how hopeless, or rather how soundly these people accept their lives. Hell, even the orcs don't seem to mind and they don't have the same persecution as the elves do. In any case though, at least you do greatly bring yourself into the favor of these people, elves and orcs and even some humans alike. The healing properties of your body bring great relief and joy to the people, and even just within a few days you are quite beloved and very much welcome and afforded hospitality among them. Though to be fair it is difficult to preach your gods to these people when the humans are always around and would take offense to such things.
But that doesn't stop you from sneaking off to make another shrine to your own gods, able to offer up the gold dust you've stolen.
>Just to be sure though, as a consensus, you want to make an offering to Vorli the adventurer god?
>>
>>4052593
Yeah Vorli seems good.
Well, let's try and visit the half-elf village if enough time has passed. Then we can check on our rented house and see if anyone is keeping an eye on it on Pedro's orders
>>
>>4052593
>Vorli
Well, that is disappointing
Even if we tell them there is a tribe in the woods they could join? They would still want to stay?
Maybe it's time to try and take over the island, maybe only then we will be able to enforce gobbo gods.
As a kind of magic, can we leave some charm or blessed stone with them, that if they need help they should use it to let us know, but tell them that we will ask something of them as a price. Kind of like a devil's bargain for the elves, it is good to have people infiltrated in these sort of operations
There is the tribe of full-elves you encountered in the wilds, but there's two problems in that first, just because it's other elves doesn't mean they'd be friendly or welcoming to one another, and second that these elves know what the result is when the humans come with hostile intent. They don't want to be free and go back to living in the wilds, only to be conquered and enslaved again. They had to go through those miseries once already, avoiding it again is their preference.
In any case you can sneak off into the forests to try and make an obscure little shrine to the gods. This time to Vorli, the God of exploring, adventure, discovery and learning. Some of the river gold, some food scraps, and smashing a frog on the rocks. All in thanks for surviving the voodoo horrors Don Pedro had in store for you.
>For your tribute to Vorli, you now gain a +10 bonus in any situations which would relate to him (as long as you invoke his favor beforehand).
>As well, you can make a choice because of what your prayers to Vorli were for; all intellectual learning is increased to double the rate you normally would, or once you have discovered a location you will always know how to return there, or you no longer are at risk from environmental dangers.
Once again you feel that sense of comfort and reassurance as you make your prayers to the shrine, faith in the feeling of being looked out for by something higher than yourself. After a time you feel satisfied with the respect and thanks given, and can return to your feet and set about your business once more.
>Five shrines to the Goblin Gods on the island, now.
Unfortunately, you can help the people at this river operation but not as much as you would like, such as supporting their freedom. Your time and experience here wasn't wasted, you made some friends and most importantly lied low and potentially faked your own death. But if your schemes here have run their course then it's probably time to move on.
That's the goblin way, after all!
Always be moving, benefit from all opportunities in an area and then move on when everything has been exhausted. Of course your dream goal of creating a permanent goblin settlement, is antithetical to the nomadic goblin ways, but if goblins the rest of the world over live that way then it couldn't hurt to try imitating the humans for once in a strange new land. Your personal belief of course, that it's the future for your people if success is your desire, not the ways of the past unfortunately.
In your departure from the river camp then, you can leave the elves with a parting gift. In the goblin ways of old, there was an art to making deals with people to supernatural effects, but always in goblin favor of course. Not even magic so much, just a inherent supernatural talent your kind has had since it's creation, probably thanks to the gods. So certainly you can make a deal with the elves to offer them a stone which they can try to summon you with if they need you, at the cost of their being in your debt... a concept which is strange to them, but you'd be able to exploit them regardless.
>You want to travel to the half-elven community then? Make a 1d100 roll just for the travel. And, depending on your blessing chosen, you might not have to worry about any danger along the way!
You'll accept the blessing of the environment no longer being a direct threat to you, thanks to Vorli's favor you don't have to worry about some predator or dangerous terrain risking your life. And with that then, you can depart from the river camp to go check on the half-elven community. It takes a full day and some of travel as you basically reach the sandy marshland towards town again and just skirt the edge of it till you find the familiar road. Fortunately you encounter no dangers along the way and even find some broken boxes aside of the road, must have fallen off a wagon but within are some bottles of booze and rope you can take with you to bundle up your few belongings.
A stroke of good luck it seems, but not enough to weather the upset of finding the half-elven community in disarray when you reach it. People there are relieved to see you back again and welcome you as best they can manage, but you soon learn that they suffered an attack. More an effort of intimidation they think by the humans, but a few folks were killed including the trader you were friends with and first brought you here, Moro. Everyone has different ideas of the reason for the attack, but you feel pretty confident that it was the result of your association with these people combined with the anger of the humans towards you.
It sinks your heart some, though you can provide plenty of help just by healing people up of their injuries, and the community is endlessly grateful to you... without seeming to realize that you could be the source of their strife. You even consider giving them one of the bags of gold you stole, so that they might be able to afford to defend themselves, but they recognize that to fight back would mean the humans hit back harder. It's a sorry situation much like the camp, you're just thankful it wasn't too bad here... but still feel some responsibility for the deaths caused.
"Please Zujenia, you have done so much good for us... stay and be welcome for as long as you wish."
They're even willing to give you a house it seems, but you question the sense of living among these people. At least your intimately close friend, Toba is still alive. He definitely looks worse for the wear however.
"What happened to you, what's wrong?"
"Ah it's... it's nothing. They've just... after our..." he scratches his head and eyes the floor embarrassed, "...night together, I wasn't able to work at the plantation so soon, so they've had me working longer to make up for it. It's nothing though, really. Nothing I can't handle, I'm just... we're just glad to see that you're safe and well."
Well whether you stay among these people is something to consider, but you could at least dwell here for a little while, some days for you to regain your health... living at the river camp was not the best conditions or food even. Some proper rest, regular meals, to find your feet again.
With Moro gone, Toba is the closest connection you have with the half-elves, and not just because you've intimately familiar. You feel bad for them but there's not a whole lot you can do for the community apart from trying to preach your faith to them. You feel bad for him, but maybe there is something you can do there?
"You want to buy me? Like a slave?"
"No not like a slave, I just want you not to have to keep working there, it's obviously bad for you. I could use your help instead."
In truth an extra hand would be nice, but you don't actually need his help. You just feel, maybe it's a way you can do some little good for these people. Whatever you can, for these people and what they've been through because of you... damn, is that some empathy? Bad, for a goblin to get sick with that!
In any case then you can go with him next time to the plantation and attempt to buy his ownership (with a 1d100 roll for the negotiating), while in the meantime and after you can continue to dwell among the half-elven community for some time till you're more ready to venture to town again and get to the bottom of this damned human problem you're having.
For your time spent with the community here though, you have a motive to try and convert them to your faith but how do you want to go about doing that? And for how long do you want to try. Obviously the longer you spend, and depending on how you do it, will have an effect on the people.
Can we cash in divine favor for a human specific plague?
>>
>>4057727
Is there a god you think would be suitable for that?
And, do you want to kill off the humans? You don't like them, but it'd be kind of pointless to want to take over, only to rule over a pile of bones. Also of course, an unsavory thought but assuming you had a need to, you know you can make more goblins with humans.
Also, will be trying to continue as the usual time, later on today.
>>
>>4057903
>you know you can make more goblins with humans.
we have the half-elves, elves and orcs for that, those fucking humans can fuck the hell off, nothing but trouble they are
>>
>>4057939
Depending on which you choose, if you resort to that though, there's obviously different positives and negatives. Same with humans, as with any race.
>>
>>4057950
It's probably the place we are, only the unsavory and problematic bunch of humans would want to came here to pillage, that's probably why they have been a pain in the ass, during travel and our stay here.
>>
>>4057953
A fair observation, not like you haven't met perfectly decent humans in your time here, like those at the tavern you're friendly with. Seems to be, what the purpose of their coming to this land is, if they have war and plunder in mind. Like any race really, good and bad.
Though, even still, you don't like the humans in general. But that doesn't mean you can't live with them or use them for their benefits, just as you have been with the elves and half-elves. It's just that when it comes to the humans, it's a delicate situation you have to figure out; one of your dreams of course is to have a place for goblins to call home here and perhaps even take control of the humans and their towns... permitting them to live, but primarily goblin focused.
But it's not like the humans are going to stop coming here from the Old world and in force. Supposing you wiped out all the humans, well you could claim the island for yourself, but in a year's time would you be facing down warships you'd have no hope of defeating? Again, you may need to find some way to use the humans as it seems their permission in some way or other will be necessary if you want to establish a nation of goblins here. At least that's how it seems, who knows what sort of creative other solutions and ideas you could come up with!
>>
first things first, we need to eliminate that Pedro guy before he eliminates us and whatever few allies we have
then that drug pushing sounds like a good way to have lackeys and money but we'll see
if we export that drug to the old world we would probably be allowed to keep living here to produce it since humans love their drugs
You follow after Toba for the day then, on to the nearest plantation to try and meet with the owners. The estate is expansive and impressive, and the place is abuzz with workers both in the fields and elsewhere. Everything, geared towards the growing and refinement of valuable New world crops to be sent back to the home country.
"Buy him? I do not think you understand how the encomienda works, niña!"
Pretty quickly you're noticed as an outsider and can make clear that you are not an orc child. The guards make you wait while an intermediary seeks audience for you, and eventually you can be shown to a patio where a few humans are gathered. Another Don in charge as you might have expected, though this human makes you welcome as a guest.
Unfortunately your dealing with him is not what you hoped. You already knew the humans had a sort of labor system here in the New world in regards to slaves, natives, and locals, but it's not just something you can come in and make purchases from. Indeed the half-elves are not slaves, but by this system they're more like vassals under a lord, in this case the Don. You can no more buy Toba than you could buy a peasant laborer from some feudal baron... well in theory you might have been able to, but this particular Don doesn't consider his workers that way.
Instead though, it's not a complete loss, but you can buy Toba's labor. That is to say, for money (not a huge amount but it's not insignificant either) you can pay for Toba to not have to work. Essentially paying the Don the same value Toba would have created with his labor. An ongoing arrangement like this, where you can exempt Toba from days of work for money each time, would be acceptable.
"Would you allow me to consider the offer?"
"Of course! And if you need to you can merely see my purser about it."
Again, not what you had hoped, but it's not nothing either. And dealing with these humans is actually not that bad. This Don and his family, find you to be a curiosity that they've heard stories about, so they treat you well and deal with you evenly. In a sense you're like a jester or a juggler to them which you could take offense to, but it's nice to see some upper class humans treating you with a little dignity at least. Enough that they are plenty happy to have you stay on as a guest and allow around their household as much as they might a human.
Perhaps even some potential, between you and them?
>Accept the offer, as long as you have income it should be fine to maintain.
>Try to play their games, stay awhile and show some decorum like a proper lady. See if you can't chat them up, and get a better deal perhaps.
Better deal sounds good, don't give them much info.
While we are here let's find some hidden place to set up a shrine too.
Maybe see if we can steal any important documenta or blackmail material at night to further our goals too
>>
>>4058360
You don't have enough to pay for Toba's wages, unless you do so with raw gold, but is that something you want to give to them?
we better leave and try to sell some of that gold before coming here for a deal then I guess
well, we can trade for potions and perfumes too I guess, they should value more then 3 days of work from the guy
>>
>>4058406
Well that will depend on what you're able to manage with these humans. Like if you try to negotiate better, can offer an alternative, or if you try and charm or schmooze them into better terms, whatever you can think of really since the Don and his family are willing to entertain you and have an ear you can play to.
And, if you opt for this, you can make a roll for whatever idea you might care to try with them. This roll can double for your effort to poke around the place as well for anything interesting.
Or setting all this aside, you could just earn some actual coinage and then come back later to make the deal. It's just simply a case that, at this moment after your trouble with Don Pedro, you don't have actual money. Just the couple bags of gold dust and the buried treasure.
To an extent the humans see you as like a cute little pet they'd love to take care of, but consider you enough of an oddity you already know, to afford you an audience. From that standpoint then, you can spend awhile longer here as their guest and speak with the master of the estate himself, Don Marcos. You know how the humans like their decorum so you play up to that, and try to present yourself as a proper lady and legitimate businessperson as best you can.
"Alchemy you say? I am sure you must find value there, professionals are in short supply in these lands!"
Over the midday siesta you can attempt to chat with the human and occasional relatives that come and go to see the goblin, as well as build some rapport. Marcos seems impressed by the little lady with her head on her shoulders, and you even sense some admiration in him for you, probably since he's only used to human women and how limited their society usually permits females to be. Specifically, hearing of your skills, he would be open to covering the deal for Toba with a trade in perfumes. That is, when his female relatives hear of it and are most delighted to the idea.
"Pedro? Bah! If you were of my household, I'd have his ear and an apology for you!"
"Ah, yes sir! I mean, sí señor!"
What more, you can entertain Marcos some with your stories and experiences. A jolly older fellow, he greatly enjoys even summarized stories of some of your adventures, and doesn't seem to pay Don Pedro much mind. As each plantation of the region here are basically different noble families, they aren't exactly all friendly and for you to be bothered by one, Marcos takes some offense. You sense some possibility there if you pressed it enough, to perhaps earn protection even, as the different families might be at odds but usually do their best to avoid damaging business interests...
"...and that's the reason for my clothes you see. Some... trouble several days passed."
"Nonsense, a lady deserves better than that! Here, have my sister give you a tour of the home. Her daughter has outgrown her younger clothes, I wager they could fit you well!"
It feels strange to be waited on by servants... but you kind of like it. Not that it goes on for very long, as Marcos calls for a servant to fetch his sister, for her to show you about the place and get you some nice replacement clothes.
Your chance if you like, or if you had in mind, to sneak about and steal anything of value. And even, construct a little goblin shrine! Ah, but to which god?
>What do you do?
>>
>>4058568
Let's not steal anything. We need good rapport with these noble family so we can get our hubby out of his servitude. Gobbo lady should instead investigate the place, maybe we can unveil some secrets in this household. Make a shrine for Gobbo God of darkness for stealth
We can get the girls of the house some drinks and make a girls night and try to make them tell everything they know, maybe even tell a sad tale about us and Toba so they can intercede with their father to let him go, human girls love that romantic stuff.
Might be nothing, just personal letters between people, or maybe it could be something juicy and valuable! Who knows what a noble plantation owner could have laying around?
Also, for making the shrine then, I assume then you'll just want the gods themselves again, to fully learn the remainder of the goblin pantheon?
A tour around the estate, couldn't be so bad. A good motivation, to imagine what you yourself could one day have, and drive yourself towards... yes, you could imagine yourself a retired old goblin noble-lady of a plantation with servants waiting on you.
"You don't speak Iberan?"
"Not much, no. You can tell my common is good though."
It's quite impressive as you're shown about the place, hate the humans as much as you might, you can't deny they've got style and know how to decorate and build impressively. Just another reason you want to gain control over them, but maybe not get rid of them entirely. You'd rather a home like this, than even the nicest vardo in the world.
It also serves as a chance to spy on these humans, and anything of interest you could pry into. You're shown a study and personal rooms, now if only you had an excuse to get away, unmonitored.
"Tía, can she play?"
"I want to braid her hair!"
"No! Leave her be, she's a guest-"
"-no! It's... it's quite alright, I could spend some time with the children..."
Using the excuse to spend some time with these kids then, you make an effort to entertain them till you get the chance to slip away, and all it cost you was having your hair done... kind of nice actually, for a child's work! After that you can snoop around, using your skills as a rogue to avoid detection. You still have to be careful about getting caught, but you're already a sneaky goblin as well as having a good excuse of claiming you got lost.
"San Cristóbal... where do I know that?"
Keeping an eye out for any documents and letters you can, you rifle through whatever you find and pocket a few you don't think will be missed. The most interesting bit of info you can find pertains to just how incredibly lucrative the plantation exchange here is, essentially comprising the entire economy of the island and indeed the whole region. By the look of things, virtually everything produced is shipped back to Iberas on royally chartered ships, in spite of how much value there could be if the trade were free. You're no smuggler, but you know that Maracan (the town here) is the most prominent port of the region and how many ships come and go... the opportunity for absurd wealth is there, if one could smuggle goods produced here to independent ships.
>>
File: grande warship.jpg (61 KB, 548x595)
61 KB
61 KB JPG
So much opportunity in fact, that it seems there's a presence of Dalmace corsairs in the waters of the region. Dalmace being another human country opposed to Iberas back in the Old world, it seems there's an interest in upsetting Iberan efforts here; you come to learn that Maracan had once only been a small settlement while the island's capital was to the south, but after being sacked by these corsairs some years ago it never recovered and Maracan became the de facto capital. Because the corsairs are still active in the region and pose a real threat even here, there's a prominent Iberan warship that patrols the waters, the San Cristóbal... perhaps another target of your ambitions, you fancy the idea of yourself a ship captain. Notably, it is the only significant military presence in the region, so if it were somehow taken out of the picture then help for the colonies here could not be expected for at least six months to a year. Enough time perhaps for you to launch some sort of hostile scheme, or takeover?
Well in any case you're able to learn more about the area and the people, both economically as well as politically (like finding out about the colonial governor in charge of the island), and geographically in the form of various maps. More detailed than the ones you've seen before pinned up in public places and such. A valuable look at the land you're in, for the benefit of imagining where you could create a goblin nation if you didn't want to just take over from the humans, but actually found something yourself independently.
You may even have found some dirt on some folks, but for that you can leave till later when you have the time and the chance to properly read through some of the letters you stashed away, ones that were clearly discarded or just rough drafts. For now, having snooped and spied what you can, you remaining desire is to find a spot to construct another goblin shrine! Already having had a tour of the estate so far, you think you know just the place; up in an attic where you're able to find a crawlspace. It should be well hidden here...
>Cont. with offering to the gods.
You have to be quick of course, you don't have very much more time before you're noticed missing. But working quick with the dagger you stole back at the river camp, you break apart a chair in the attic and gather some other small furniture to draw down the crawl space after you and make a little goblin shrine, as well as offering one of the small bags of gold and pricking your finger for a little blood.
And so for this tribute, you improve your relation with the gods and gain some more understanding; for goblinkind, their gods take the form of a divine family. Each generation represents a stage of development in goblin society/civilization. Supposedly there are three generations roughly equivalent to past, present and future. First being the primitive divine grandparents, second being the civilized divine mother and father and aunt and uncle, and third being the adapted divine children.
>3nd Generation - Representing adaption for goblinkind, after stability from civilization
>Brev Nar, Divine Son - an externally focused god of war (and weapons), discipline, and group cohesion & strategy
>Mordo Sile, Divine Son - an internally focused god of (academic) learning, invention, and development & history
>Misha Vell, Divine Daughter - an internally focused goddess of culture, beauty, and arts & crafts
>Orli Mess, Divine Daughter - an internally focused goddess of healing, stewardship, and plants & animals
>Retdo Ullet, Divine Cousin - an externally focused god of stealth, subterfuge, and hiding & deceit
>*variable name*, Divine Cousin - an externally focused deity of friendship, cooperation, and race relations & foreign benefits. As the child of the goddess Briga, their appearance depends on the race of the father
For your increased devotion to the gods, you gain the chance to pray for certain outcomes. You can continue to give tribute to the gods in general which will improve the results of your faith, or you can give tribute to specific gods for increased favor. As long as you have some successful effort to show, and offerings to give for a shrine made, then you can make a tribute.
>Six shrines to the Goblin Gods on the island, now.
Once again you feel that sense of comfort and reassurance as you make your prayers to the shrine, faith in the feeling of being looked out for by something higher than yourself. After a time you feel satisfied with the respect and thanks given, and can leave the crawl space and get back to the humans before you're noticed missing!
You return among the humans then without any trouble, and continue to bide your time among them till you feel satisfied with your visit here. You'd be fine to just leave and indeed had planned to, but you're confronted before you have the chance to depart.
"Here you are my dear, some clothes my daughter has outgrown... I'm sure something here can fit you? If there's any you like, you can take with you."
"Nonsense, she can try them on herself to see, before dinner! You will be joining us, yes?"
Don Marcos and his sister surprise you by making good on the original offer, some new clothes for you. It also seems tied to an offer of you staying for dinner though... you're not opposed to food, especially noble food, but you did have things to do. You suppose you could stay and entertain them, maybe try to get a better deal in regards to Toba, but just the same if you really wanted to you could probably also decline politely and still get out of here for the better.
It couldn't hurt to stick around for dinner, before which you try on some of the clothes. Again, as a grown adult your developed proportions don't suit children's clothes well but it's certainly better than stolen laborer clothes merely tied and rolled up in an attempt to fit. With some effort you look like a proper little goblin lady in clothes fit for a human noble child, and it's a step closer to what you had to wear before Pedro flip turned your life upside down.
"Mmm, mmmMM! So good! And you eat this every night?!"
"Not every night, but I would like to say our cooks know what they are doing. I am sure goblin cuisine is more intriguing however, to go with the... nomadic lifestyle? That is how your people live in the old country, yes?"
You get along to dinner with the humans, and even if they have to boost you up in your seat like a little child, you don't feel like you're being disrespected and are afforded an equal seat at the table as the rest of them except for the Don of course. Their family priest says grace and they're all prim and proper about the decorum which you attempt to observe, but you can't help stuffing your face once the eating starts. Not only is the best food you've had since coming to the New world but this may in fact be the best food you've ever had in your entire life, considering you've never sat at noble tables before.
Fortunately your ravenous appetite seems like cute entertainment to the humans so you needn't worry much. Eventually giving yourself a break to let settle the food you've already stuffed your face with, to make room for more, you can also entertain them with some of your stories that you know they're partial to. Most of the humans here, their lives have been in and around the plantation, so stories about braving the wilds and encountering supernatural evils are beyond their wildest imaginings.
"...at least that's what I was trying for. To help my beloved you see."
"Awww!"
"So sad!"
"Please Papa, is there nothing you can do?"
"Weeell... I suppose..."
You know it's funny, in another life you probably could have weaseled your way into these people's hearts and come to be a part of their household, and live well and happily ever after. The extent to which you've got them eating out of your hand, you could probably scam them into believing anything! Just an odd reminder of the spectrum of your experience with the humans, some would kick you and enslave you and leave you to be eaten by a zombie, while others would have you as their dinner guest and giving you gifts.
>>
The main benefit of which, is that after your sob story and enough female sympathy, Don Marcos seems more open to your plea. Supposing you can fulfill your promise of some perfumes then, Toba can consider himself free of work obligations indefinitely. You try not to smile and cheer victoriously, but it does lift your spirits for your successes after recent failures.
"Native artifacts? I would not know anything about that... but I will tell you what, I may know a man who could help you. Or rather, you would be helping him."
"Ah, thank you sir!"
Even on the treasure front you gain some ground. It seems Marcos is familiar with a failed conquistador who's been trying to return to Iberas but can't or won't leave here empty handed. He has more than enough money, he just needs actual artifacts to show that his efforts in the New world were not a waste. Of course you don't like conquistadors but if the man is desperate enough... and certainly it sounds more appealing than trying to bargain with some trader.
>Anything else then? Or enjoy the rest of dinner and be on your way?
So taken by their charity, you accept the chance to spend the night here. After dinner you enjoy some time more with the family and get to observe humans in a natural habitat, before getting shown your way to bed... yes, bed! An actual bed, once again you relish the chance to sleep in comfort!
Being left alone to your own little guest room... well little for humans, you enjoy yourself just by looking around the place and out the window, imagining it as the master bedroom of your own estate.
"Mmm, yeees... this is good..."
Peeking out from the covers of your comparatively huge bed, you can't help smiling at your coziness and soon drift off to sleep.
---
And a good sleep it is, it's been many rough days recently so your body thanks you for a good and proper rest.
Awoken by a morning rainstorm outside, to your delight you rise and shine to a helpful servant bringing you something light to eat and offering the chance to wash. A proper bed, a proper bath, all this hospitality you just gobble up and ironically enough is probably hardly a thought in the minds of the humans for the kind of wealth and power they have.
>+5 to all rolls for the day!
In any case, you leave feeling better than you have in a long time. You could stay for a late breakfast but it would mean attending church service with the family so you'll pass on that, simply thanking them for their time and understanding for your situation, and of course their generosity. You can even return some of the fancier child clothes for more practical ones, the Don's sister understands.
And for sure you'll return soon enough, both with the promised perfumes and simply to visit when you care to. Beyond that though, it was a bit of a risk going out on a limb with these humans but you feel quite satisfied in your dealings with them. Yes indeed, not all humans are a rotten lot, and you should like friends as these ones if you manage to take control!
So then, leaving the plantation behind and heading on the road towards town in the light rain, you consider what to do for getting back into the saddle of things after Pedro ousted you. You could make good on your promise to Marcos or leave that for later, there's also the matter of the treasure and exchanging it, and how could you forget Pedro and your need to tie that loose end? Or if you had something else in mind of course.
I think we should make the permufes first. Marcos is possibly our most powerfull ally so far, but it won't be official until we do our part. And the sooner we do it, the sooner Toba would be free. Also, he gives us protection from Pedro, wich gives us more time to get rid of him.
Speaking of Pedro, i think we should make it look like a accident. Make it seems like he choked on his food or something, so the elfs aren't blamed again (and neither are us)
Specially on the pedro thing, after we have the perfumes done we should stalk him and see what opportunities for an "accident" we may have
Very well then, make a roll just to see how well you can make the perfumes, the quality of them. You can pretty easily return to the half-elven community and whip up some things after a couple days of foraging (flowers and such) and mixing.
Marcos and his family present an interesting situation, just about the best contact you've made in the New world... certainly the most powerful. Don Pedro has it out for you, but he wouldn't dare to cross another noble family, right? Giving you a shield you need in order to counterattack!
So you resolve to make good on your bargain, and return to the half-elven community. Over the next couple days, you forage through the jungle and around the coast for things you could make good perfumes out of, and even some of the half-elves help you. After that it's just brewing them right, such as boiling them or crushing them up, mixed with water and what have you in the right amounts to make perfume. This knowledge isn't even reserved for alchemy really, most goblin ladies know similar tricks like with makeup (not unlike the humans) to increase appeal or quality of life.
All that's left is to use the remaining money you have to buy the fanciest bottles you can from town, and then return to the plantation with the gift... and hope.
---
A couple hours later, and having stuffed your face over lunch at the estate, and you make your departure from the plantation once again... with Toba in tow.
"What do you mean I don't have to work anymore?"
"It's not a prank, I made a deal with your boss so that you that you're free from working."
The half-elf still seems in disbelief about whether this is all real, and hesitates to actually exit through the front gates, perhaps fearful of some punishment for walking off on the job. Stifling a laugh, you double back to pull and push at his legs till... well you're not strong enough to move him, but he accepts your moving him so that he's outside. And, unsure of what to do now, exactly.
"...what sort of a deal? Did it cost a lot? Did they do anything... bad to you? Please, not for my sake Zuzu... what can I do to repay you?"
"Just... do what you always do! Only, you don't have to kill yourself working anymore, help me instead."
Well then, if all is as you understand it, Toba is free of his labor obligations. Free to actually move around now, about the island rather than mostly confined to his community or the plantation. It's a gift so far beyond his understanding, that he seems almost helpless without you now. Having spent his entire life under this semi-feudal system, he's never had the chance to think or act freely so his mind or rather his imagination is a bit limited in what is actually possible for him now thanks to you.
>You gain Toba as a viable follower now.
Of course it brings some comfort to your heart to be able to do good like this, but there's also the resultant benefit now that you have an able bodied half-elf to do your bidding! He's not literally your slave, but his perception of the value of the gift you've bestowed upon him, he'd probably die for you!
>What do you do now?
>>
>>4063347
Good stuff- let's keep making those connections, and building up a proper market empire so we can make an actual physical empire. Onwards to the conquistador to sell, sell, sell! Of course, the trick is to make him want to CONTINUE to buy from us, let's remember. And maybe we can seek further connections from there.
I could use a reminder, QM, what IS our currently network of people we know? A list could be useful.
>>
>>4063347
Ok, now would be a good time to stalk and learn more about Pedro, Toba can help us out too, keeping and eye while we are resting. We find a good spot to hide and then learn what we can from Pedro and the daily life at his estate.
But before that, destroy Toba's pelvis as a celebration to his new situation, that drunk night was nice but we can do better sober.
>>
>>4063347
Try to find the conquistador and sell our loot to him.
>>
>>4063707
>>4063602
>>4063589
Sell some of the treasure, but not all, we don't know if we can trust him and put half-elf meat back on the menu before going there
>>
>>4063829
>>4063602
You want to maintain... relations, with Toba then?
You sure can, but you're bound to end up with more little goblins scampering about. At some point you may want to consider if that's a path you want to go down, and if so, what sort of father(s) you want.
>>
>>4064174
Sure, now that he's free he can watch over them too. And longer living gobs should be good. If the others may not want the extra goblibs around we can probably use a potion to prevent that but I don't see why not let nature run it's course, divine mother will probably be please with some little ones.
>>
>>4064174
Not now. Later when we have a more secure base of operations.
>>
>>4064230
Well like with any race, there's positives and negatives. Like children by Toba may be longer lived (though a full-elf would mean even longer lived) but they also longer to mature.
It may not matter to you that much, but it's just worth considering since that's one theoretical strategy you could rely on, having more goblins to help your plans. And depending on the father, obviously the goblins would come out very differently.
>>4064263
That's fair, though depending on how carried away you get might determine where you choose a base of operations. If you dearly fall in love with Toba and get married and have a happy family, then living in town for example in your dream house is possible. If instead though you try to amass a small army of goblins around yourself, that's probably something you'd need to do away from the notice of others. Like you can't imagine the humans would feel comfortable, if they notice goblins start outnumbering them within their own settlements.
>>
>>4064174
Let's have relations with Toba, we freed him and now we can enjoy it a little, but use some form of alchemy for contrsception for now, we need to kill Pedro before having kids as they will not be safe before he is out of the picture
>>
>>4064274
>>4064306
I just don't think the risk and the time/investment we'll need to care for them is worth it right now when we're just getting on our feet.
>>
>>4064317
I agree now is not the time, I just don't want Zuzu to go celibate, she should enjoy her now free bed warmer, no need to worry about not being too tired for work the next day and some good relaxation.
We probably know of some potion or tea to keep babies away for now, we can have those later to flood the streets with little green things.
>>
>>4064345
Celibate? I wouldn't worry about that. It's just called having priorities.
>>
>>4064345
>>4064306
>>4064317
Well the idea could be, they help you get on your feet. Goblins always do better in numbers.
But, only if you actually go down that path. As you said, not taking it seriously would probably just be a liability. Unless you plan on some growing goblin operation and overwhelming enemies with a green swarm, then anything less probably isn't worth the trouble at this time.
In any case, just a heads up but I've got a pretty busy day today, so we may not play or if we do it will be later than normal. However, if there's enough players still around and you're all still enjoying yourselves and interested for more, we could consider continuing this quest to another thread. If so, I might be able to make the third thread within the next couple days or so, depending.
In the meantime, you can plan and figure out what your priorities are both short and long term, and determine the next steps to take towards them. Most immediately seems to be exchanging the treasure, and finding out about Pedro with the aim of eliminating him. Besides and beyond that though, is open for you to consider. Not to mention what you already know of the island and available opportunities.
>>
>>4064360
Good point, probably just want to figure out who have what priorities since it may differ between players. Like some people seemed interested in like a goblin city state first and foremost, well technically something like that could be possible, if you just ventured off into the wilds away from the humans and founded your own settlement and increased numbers.
But on the other hand, priorities like gathering power and wealth more conventionally, and your dreams of hostile takeover, rely on proximity to the humans, so the two priorities aren't very compatible.
>>
>>4064369
Right.
I want a Goblin City-State, but I want to be able to build up resources to support said city-state first. Need finances, food sources, and housing to do that. I don't want a stock dime-a-dozen horde of goblins. We might have to start things out illegally a bit, but it's essentially the wild west out here, and doesn't have to stay that way. We can and should grow beyond stereotypes.
>>
>>4064369
I want to amass wealth and influence. Becaming a rich merchant of sorts. Also, since we are in friendly terms with most of the elfs we met so far, we should continue to look for a way to cure them permanently, even if only for our benefit. And once we have enough power, put a end to their slavery.
>>
Resuming shortly, just a heads up.
>>
>>4065036
...City-state founded on mercantile pursuits? Trade hub, perhaps? I think we could work together on this- our goals aren't mutually exclusive.
With Toba as reliable help then, you're able to transport your treasure now, and more safely too. With help from a runner of Don Marcos to show you the way, by late afternoon you and Toba with a couple bags of treasure (after having dug them up) are headed into town and eventually find your way to the customs house by the port.
"Increíble! This is exactly what I've been looking for! And you said you found it out in the jungle?"
"Somewhere like that, I followed a map... but I don't have that map anymore."
It doesn't take long to find the conquistador spoken of, Señor Reffe, desperately perusing goods going out from the expansive exchange building. Just by looking you can see he's on hard times, tired and probably drinking, and though he shuns you at first he quickly relents when you make clear your offer. Taking it outside and trying your best to keep secretive about what you're carrying from the rest of the world, you let the human check on your treasure.
"Weight for weight? I can offer you silvers for whatever you have, no shortage there I can assure you!"
Before anything official he would want to weigh what you have to make sure it's gold of course, but he honestly seems more interested in the cultural worth of the treasures rather than their monetary value. As you'd heard and he explains a little of, he simply wants to return home to the Old world not emptyhanded. A small haul of native elven treasures, are worth the prestige back home rather than any reward.
So he makes clear his offer, silver coinage per weight for your treasure. Honestly a little disappointing, but only a little. You'd hoped for gold doubloons but it's unlikely that any man would carry a fortune like that, readily available. Also one has to account for the convenience, sure you'd be exchanging at a loss but you'd still end up with a significant fortune and importantly much easier to use and transport. Unless you plan to do something like, try to wow someone by buying a house upfront by dumping gold treasure in their lap, the ability to use the treasure as "currency" or otherwise exchange is limited.
So it's something to consider, and you might feel a little bitter if you accept, but at least it's a fair deal. You're not sure who else you might go to (apart from the aforementioned "wow!" type offer), but you feel certain that a merchant or some such would just rip you off.
>What do you do?
>>4066770
>>
>>4066795
>>
>>4066836
No need, I relent for the sake of not rolling dice, and we have plenty more artifacts burried at the shrine a few days travel throough the jungle. Now that we won't have fear of environmental danger thanks to our latest blessing we can grab some more if we need coin.
Lets buy some proper clothes for us and for Toba and comission some new weapons and tools with the money
After hiring the services of a cashier at the place then, you can have the treasure weighed and receive an equal amount of silver coinage in return, plus contract which is nice. Although you kind of preferred having the treasure, it was a bit hard to mentally gauge the value. With the silver though, not so; you can clearly tell and understand how much value you have in the bags of coins. Reffe is happy with the exchange, and would be willing to take anything else you have for the same rate, however he won't be around forever since he now has no further reason keeping him in the New world. After affording passage home, he'll be gone soon enough so his availability to exchange the treasure is limited.
"I can't believe it, there's so much!"
"Actually it's the same, gold just weighs more you know."
Before it was just a couple bundles of golden trinkets but now it's a number of bags full of silver! Best not linger anywhere too long, you're bound to attract attention! Maybe easier if you start spending it, first thing first is clothes. To replace those you lost to Don Pedro, and Toba who's never had decent clothes. You have to keep a tight reign on your companion though, he's never been in town to this extent and he's quite overwhelmed and bewildered by everything. Particularly to see other half-elves about the place and even full-elves, living alongside the humans and in the same ways.
You've bought clothes before here, so know just the place, and had been looking for a place for proper weapons so can complete your search... some daggers obviously as that's what you're familiar with, but you've considered a pistol. In the Old world it wouldn't be allowed but out here no one seems to care that much, apart from proper swords (a big part of Iberan culture) and long guns.
It will take a few days for the clothes and weapons to be made however, so you've time to figure out what's on your list of priorities. Don Pedro now seems to occupy the top spot for attention and... elimination, but it will take some time of stalking you think, to learn what's needed about him. In that time, having a home here would be nice, even if it's just renting at the tavern again or a proper inn somewhere in town...
...there was your rental house of course, but it seems that Pedro will have it watched. Although, he might have assumed you died since you prudently up and disappeared after the voodoo mishap. But it hasn't been so long, that you think he would give up, but who knows? Then again, you seem to have a good thing going for yourself now, without worrying about Pedro. Not that you want to forgive and forget him... but just on your own and focusing on personal pursuits, you've done well for yourself without dwelling on revenge. Maybe it could be better to focus on improving your situation more, for the time being?
After your meeting with Don Marcos, not like there's a shortage of opportunities.
>What do you do?
>>
>>4066954
We are the only goblin here and if we ever show up he will know its us, its not prudent to forget about Pedro.
Rent a good quality room in an inn or something for us and Toba to share, leave him taking care of our stuff and let's check our rented house, don't go directly there but stalk and see if anyone is watching, just to see if Pedro is still looking.
You like the old tavern of course, but with some money now you can afford a good and proper room within town. Not for long though, you naturally don't want to linger in town for so very long. In theory you imagine you could dwell indefinitely without anyone's notice if you took to living secretly... could just squat in roof spaces and empty rooms or cellars, and sneak around like a rogue. If need be, you certainly can go without getting caught.
But do you want to? Not really, it's a fallback resort. As long as Don Pedro has it out for you, there's no easy rest.
"Grrr... bastards! Argh, how can I get back at them for this?!"
You find a nice place in town to stay and have Toba to wait there for you, while you sneak out to spy on your rented home. Watching from afar and in hiding, it doesn't take very long for you to notice a pattern of a couple people probably keeping watch over the house, and eventually even you see two men exiting the place from having been inside... possibly waiting.
It seems obvious that Don Pedro still wants your head, and seeing his lackeys makes you quite furious, thinking of all the belongings you lost because of them. You growl and make angry faces and champ on sticks to partly cope with your upset, the injustice of it all and wanting to act in retribution. But you're able to keep your cool and not fly into a rage...
"Hey, cut that out! People will notice!"
Your shadow though isn't so calm or capable of controlling its emotions, storming about across surfaces and silently shouting and throwing arms in all sorts of angry gestures. To try and let it settle, you find an out of the way spot in an alley to sit and collect yourself and your thoughts. While your shadow rages itself out, you remember some of the papers stolen from Don Marcos and take them out from being stashed in your clothes and try reading over them, the ones you can.
"Charleaf? That must be what was in that storehouse..."
The kind of plant you burn for the smoke, the humans call it tobacco, that's that Don Pedro's family plantation specializes in. You remember when he tried to have you killed, your escape through that warehouse you encountered stacks of the stuff. As each of the five plantation families in the area farm something particular, Pedro is one of the two which deals with tobacco, which also happens to be one of the controlled products of the colony here which is under royal control... apparently under pain of death to be trading it away.
Well were so very delighted to experience the life Don Marcos has, and would love it for yourself, but taking it over from Don Pedro seems difficult if even possible. A small farm you could maybe sabotage to gain control, but not one of the controlled products, too many would notice. Short of like, marrying into the family, it seems a bar too high for you to reach... but who knows?
Buy Alchemy Instruments to vastly improve our products and wares. Buy Toba clothes too and maybe buy some books or maps of the region. Buy lots of paper and ink for note making. We have to make COCAAINE
>>
>>4067236
>>4067582
I agree to making a drugs, but let's not do cocaine, let's make a drug specifically for humans, if we flood the streets here with cocaine the poorer races will be in an even worse state then they are now, so keep the drug aimed at the humans that can aford it.
And with a new drug, in smoking form perhaps, we could cut Pedro's profits.
As for hownto deal with him, it will have to be good old murder it seems, disguised as an accident or natural causes
>>
>>4067617
makes sense ayt im down. If we can buy horses or a pony that would be swell too
>>
>>4067582
You don't have a permanent residence though, currently.
>>4067617
You shouldn't really care much for the other races, goblins are your sole concern.
In any case you can work with Toba or even the full-elves who are familiar with such things, to create drug substances. You shouldn't expect it would have any impact to Pedro however, since what he produces is royally controlled so he doesn't and can't sell any; the full 100% of his produce is expected to be shipped back to Iberas, and anything less like local sale or smuggling invites the harshest of penalties.
>>
>>4067654
That is, the reason I mention residence is, you've the idea of investing in alchemy goods again but where are you going to put them and work with them?
>>4067647
Like swords, horses may present a problem because they're usually the realm of Sirs, unless you specifically intend for work horses that can't be ridden.
Or if you don't ride around any humans of course, no one can tell you no if you're riding in the wilds.
>>
>>4067654
Working with the full elves for that sounds good. See if there is any plant or substance we can find that don't affect them but that has hallucinogen or just plain old stoner quality to it that we canbtry to comercialize
>smuggling
If we manage to grab some bunddles of his product we can stage a smuggling operation and pin it on Pedro
As for where to set up our lab.
My first choice would be our little house at the half-elves, but if that is not adequate we can maybe rent a space at Marcos's estate? Some small house he gives to employees or something?
Big enough for us to share with Toba and to set up our proper (human meth) lab.
Whatever we do, we should buy a big and confy mattress that fits us both, that bed was amazing. We can have it delivered with the lab stuff
>>
Proper by half-elven standards but probably not by those that you'd prefer. Also if you want to continue to live with them, it continues to be a risk to them for any retribution against you.
Marcos's estate is another possibility, but if you're trying to avoid notice or suspicion that may be difficult around so many people and in a place that is already dedicated to agriculture.
>>4067888
>>4067971
As for the ruins, indeed it is a pretty good and familiar location to you, however it is also very remote so if your idea is to try and addict people to something you make, making it rather far away might make it difficult to maintain.
But it's certainly possible in any case. And you certainly can buy a donkey or a mule, that's no trouble to anyone.
>>4067673
>>4067582
>>4067617
It seems that you'll have to give up on your rented house for now, and buying a replacement in town is probably risky as well, not like Pedro could forcefully evict you like he did from the rented home if you've got a contract of ownership, but he could still make your life difficult if he knows where you live.
Somewhere secretive then perhaps, you know of some places out of the way, like the elven ruins... even if they are remote. Or even just squatting in the forests, the important thing seems to be to find a place out of the way where you can start experimenting with substances and make your preparations against Pedro.
For now though you've got at least a few more days in town till the things you ordered are ready, and you'll want to consider where you're going to leave for (like after you purchase a donkey for example). You can figure that out as you go, and maybe keep a low profile while you're in town to avoid notice by anyone hostile, something which you can do easily enough given your size and skills as a rogue.
"If you need, I can do things for you. Whatever you need me to, I can go out. Like we did with the room here and how you snuck in later."
"Nevermind that, have you felt this bed?! It's amazing, come lay here for a bit!"
Toba considers doing something out now, that it's early evening so safer to move around at night. He might be right but there's plenty to... do, plenty to enjoy here in the inn without needing to go looking for trouble. He sits on the bed at your request, and lays down at your tugging and urging him to. He seemed on edge, but it's nice to see him gradually relax in the comfy bed with you while listening to some people get into a fight down in the street outside.
Could go out, or could appreciate the amenities of the inn downstairs... or could spend the night in.
>What do you do?
>>
>>4068544
We've been doing stuff non stop, order some nice meal and a wine bottle or 2 to be delivered to our room, "spend the night in" and then go out in the morning to look for the lab equiment and animals to transport it.
Could we rent a warehouse on the docks? Somewhere underground and maybe even use Toba as a front so that our goblin face doesn't shows.
We would have decent size for a lab, a place to store our stock and the amenities we could add with time.
And the docks would give us some other opportunities to work with smuggles and other less reputable people
Toba isn't against resting in bed, but the longer you spend snuggling with him, the less you care about resting and more about a certain... hunger you'd had, for half-elven meat. You're not used to getting a taste, and then not having your fill regularly. Something like that can be dangerous for a goblin, to go hungry for too long.
"...Zuzu, what are you..."
You take to sitting up in order to reach him for some kisses, but eventually your hands start to wander, try to loose his clothes.
"Come on, my big strong field worker! You don't work for Marcos anymore, you work for me now... and I want some sugar!"
"I-I don't know... it'd be b-better if... ah, p-please just... take it slower? Last time was too-"
Right right, something about slow, got it. You shut him up with some more kissing as you get your blouse off and move to sit on his chest, so that you can more properly make out due to the size difference...
---
Of course it's only natural that different races make love differently. For goblins it's a semi-violent affair of sharp little teeth and claws, sweaty slapping and grinding green skin, grunting and shrieking and trying to get as much out of one's partner as fast and vigorously as possible. A passionate race to exhaustion, one could say, and often many times per day every day. Hence why there's so damn many goblins. For elves on the other hand, as you understand it's an agonizingly slow and sensual procedure that can take an entire day, with their endless lifespans they breed so infrequently and slowly that it's a big thing once in a blue moon. Because of this, improper intimacy for them (such as too quickly or without ample preparation time) is not only a shock but potentially harmful to their health.
Naturally, that doesn't make your races really compatible, and while Toba isn't a full-elf he's still half an elf. Similar difficulties as your last romp together.
"...M-M-Myyy... M-My chessstt..."
"-enf, enf, ah, ah, almost! Mmmmhhh!"
"...c-c-can't.... b-b-breathe..."
Though you tried, you really did to take it slow with him, loving intimacy and gradual foreplay and all that, but it was too boring and your body got too pent up... at some point you eventually just ended up outpacing him and taking over while he did his best to hang on. Hopefully he can withstand your rather one-sided lovemaking just long enough, though the toll on him is clear to see as he looks physically ill now and struggles to remain lucid and breathing, his body desperately trying to tail your pace... like a cold engine suddenly gunned to two-hundred. It's not like it's one sided either, you have your own problems with the size difference, the expected pain and discomfort. But you're obviously more capable of dealing with the mismatched act than he is.
Though funnily enough, you can't help noticing as you hump away at your enfeebled lover, your shadow apparently having as much the time of her life as you are. Not exactly matching your body movements on the wall but still visibly immersed in pleasure, similarly joined as one shadow with her infirm half-elven lover just as you're joined as one body with yours. Just some side glances to the wall, the shadow cast by outside light through the window, but the more you notice her the more it becomes almost a little obsession.
That bitch... is she enjoying it more? Is she... is she better than me?!
It spurs you almost to a competition of sorts, filling the room with the smell of sweat and love and the sound of grunts and moans and exhausted panting and creaks of the bed, into the night until you're satisfied. Until you've had your fill of half-elf meat, and come tomorrow will probably want to make yourself some bitter-tea, before the warm sticky feeling within turns into a baby.
---
Awhile late, still night, and you've caught your breath. Just relaxing, laying in bed beside Toba and snuggling against his body so much bigger than yours. Despite his size though, he's left looking pale and gaunt from what you did to him, and were you not able to hear his very faint heartbeat with your ear pressed to his chest... you might think he was dead. Even worse than your previous time together in fact, and you wonder if perhaps your shadow had anything to do with it? Almost like you made love to him twice, you didn't just hump his body... but perhaps even his soul?
"...eeehhh... you feeling okay Toby?"
"..." his glazed unmoving eyes, he simply draws such a weak breath that you'd have not noticed if you weren't snuggled so close and laying across his chest to try and reach his face with yours.
An... apology might be in order, or at least something to make it up? For getting carried away in sordid competition with your salacious shadow. Of course you could just get to sleep, but it's not that late and you could just as well fetch some food and drink perhaps for the both of you, or even see if there's anything interesting downstairs of the inn. Easy enough to just crawl out of bed and throw on a nightgown.
You maybe feel... a little bad about getting carried away, only a little though for as good as you're left feeling after it. Fortunately Toba is only half-elven so it's not as though you actually harmed him (especially not with the divinely healing properties of your body) but no thanks to his physiology, your little romp took its toll. He's not injured but still suffered a massive shock to his system when you basically condensed what should have taken some hours for him, down to mere minutes minutes. Kind of like any bodily process being forcibly shortened you suppose; imagining the process of eating something to it being fully digested, forced to entirely take place in just seconds, and you can imagine what a shock that might feel like to your body.
"You're alright, yeah Toby? It's not so bad..."
With some concern you try to engage him, rub his chest and arms and face, take his hands in yours and try to get him to do the same with you. Even wave your hands in front of his eyes for some response. You feel better knowing for sure that he's not injured or anything, he's just not really lucid. You notice some minor responses, so it's like he's operating at ten percent at the moment, just the bare minimum to remain conscious.
Of course it's a sorry state you put him in, but you can let out a sigh of relief knowing you didn't just bang him into a coma, both figuratively and literally!
"You stay here and rest then, I'll fix us something up..."
Giving him a kiss then, you slide off him and crawl to the edge of the bed to struggle and get down to the floor. Cleaning yourself up a bit, you put on his shirt to act as a nightgown before heading for the downstairs of the inn... walking a little funny all the way, and once out of the room hugging yourself with glee from feeling so good. As well as pressing palms against the wall with your shadow in mutual congratulations.
It's kind of funny almost. You understand nothing about your shadow now, and by all measures she's something that should be feared, not to mention a passing annoyance or even rivalry with her. But at the end of the day she's not just you, she's almost like another goblin. The closest thing to kinship you have in this world now, you'd hug her if you could.
Easy enough to fetch just a night snack and some drinks from downstairs, and return to your room. You did notice some merrymaking going on among patrons and plenty of conversation, but it's not like you were going to join in right after a bedroom romp and wearing only a loose shirt, something which a few people notice and laughingly comment on. You might have joined in with friends or family like any goblin, but not among strangers when there's a desire out for your head.
Returning to the room then, you spend awhile longer into the night with Toba, something of an attempt to nurse him back to health more or less. Feeding him some food and drink with your own hands between enjoying it yourself, and after enough time it seems to have some effect to where he's at least responsive even if very weak. As long as he's aware of you and can feebly utter some single words at a time, then you can feel better about going to sleep with him.
"Goodnight then, Toby. I'll have you good as new come tomorrow."
"...night..."
A welcome night's sleep then, and you obviously awake before he does at the sounds of a wagon clipping the side of a building outside. Not to disturb Toba then, you can carefully crawl out of bed once more and at least put on some underwear to go with his shirt, before you go and fetch a hearty breakfast for the both of you. A nice way to wake up for him and something of a way to apologize for your goblin libido.
Though if left be, he probably won't awake for a few hours so if you wish to, you could handle some errands or business yourself if you like. It's pretty early in the morning so you've plenty of time to even get washed and fully dressed, before seeing what business there may be downstairs of the inn, or perhaps head to any nearby places in town. You are somewhat close to the docks for example, and could inquire there about your business interests. Or even make a quick trip to the market, maybe buy some goods while they set up for the day, in order to make some fortifying energetic brews for Toba and some bitter-tea for yourself to prevent his seed from taking root.
Get washed and dressed, trybto make the employees gossip about what was happening last night, probably some adventurer striking it rich but it's better to hear about it.
After that if they don't have anything to say we can try to get some info from whoever is left on the in.
Later we should go for the docks and see about oir business of finding a nice place and maybe scouting out sone other rogues that work there that we can make business later
Your prior wash experience at the tavern in the poorly part of town, wasn't more than a basin within the washing room next to the laundry. The inn here is a proper establishment however, and actually has a dedicated bathroom with a tub and all. Designed for humans in fact so you have some trouble keeping your head above the water before resorting to just bailing some water out!
In any case though it's a rather lovely experience to your liking, as it's always nice to keep clean and hygienic, especially after that sweaty sticky endeavor last night.
"Mmmmm! Nice and green and clean!"
Your black hair lush and silky, your green skin spotless, your little body smooth and soft. Just as any goblin lady should be! As pleasant a feeling as it is invigorating, and drying yourself off you feel right and ready for the day! A quick return to your room to get fully dressed, and then it's downstairs to enjoy a hearty breakfast in the common room of the inn.
"Not so busy not, now like last night I saw. What was all the ruckus about?"
"Ay señora? Oh, some nonsense about sirenas."
"...nonsense about what?"
"Sirenas? Ah, you say... mermaids?"
You snort in laughter and almost choke on your food at the "news". Well you suppose that would be cause for commotion at an inn near the docks. Not that mermaids don't exist of course... well (some of) the humans might disregard such tales, but goblins often believe in such nonsense that half-fish people is hardly a stretch. However, what are the odds of such creatures here? As if they made the voyage across the ocean from the Old world as well!
Could be worth looking into just for some fun, a chance to waste a day and basically take it easy and relax on a lark at some point or other. But it's hardly a big deal for you, when you've got more pressing matters. So you enjoy your time downstairs eating a big breakfast and downing some drinks, while watching all manner of people come and go from the inn and hearing what they have to say, before you ask for another breakfast to bundle and take upstairs to Toba.
---
"You feeling better now Toby? Oh no, you don't have to rush, take your time."
"...better, but still not good..."
It's about another hour in the room during which you occupy yourself with checking over your shared belongings and planning out the day, before Toba stirs a little... and in your impatience, take the chance to help him wake up fully. Feeding him more so he doesn't have to, making sure he gets up on a full belly. Also a light massage of his extremities, get the blood flowing and the muscles warmed up, anything to make it easier on him.
Eventually he's able to sit up, and is responsive to you but clearly he's still quite diminished. At least he's not catatonic and bedridden, but you might have to let him still spend the day in the room while you handle the errands. Still, you want to make him feel as best as he can while you're here, before you go out. He sits up in bed while you fully stand behind him, against his back (while rubbing his shoulders) to try and match your heads in height.
"You know they have a bathroom here, you can get cleaned when you feel you're up to it... though I wouldn't mind sharing a bath with you."
Maybe it helps, maybe it doesn't, but you enjoy nuzzling against him from behind and speaking softly to his long ears.
"...I'll... I'll do it now, I'm not back to... normal, but I can at least go with you today..."
"Only if you want to! Don't force yourself to anything... oh! Did you know, they were talking about mermaids downstai-"
"-AUGH!"
He seems determined to get up and out of bed at least, so you do everything you can to help and support him with the effort, pushing up against his back to contribute effort to the cause! He manages to reach the edge of the bed with your help and step to the floor, but as soon as he moves to standing there's a sudden shock, as he... well, as far as you can tell, seems to just combust. A burst of fire and smoke across his side as he ignites, and naturally reacts in shock and pain, yelling and staggering back. The smell of burning flesh fills the air as he panics, and you struggle for a solution... still at a loss of what even happened.
"GetitoffgetitoffPUTITOUT!"
"Here, here! Tobias, lay down!"
Some quick thinking and reaching out to grab him before he gets too far away from you, you manage to pull at him and convince Toba to lay back on the bed and smother the flames with the sheets between him rolling and you covering and pressing on him. An awful stink and nasty smoke fills the air but eventually the fire is out, only to be replaced by Toba's anguished cries. He struggles to breathe and winces and groans form the pain, as you gradually pull the blackened bloody bedsheets from him and see the severity of his burned skin.
Fortunately, it's mostly just down his outer right side and only about up to the shoulder. It's as much a shock to you as it is to him though, and while he struggles to cope with the pain, you try to understand what even just happened and what to do now. At least he's not actually on fire anymore, but he's burned, badly. Even with immediate medical attention, it could be a questionable recovery.
Use our blood, it should do the trick better than saliva to heal, if that doesn't work take him to a doc and prepare a healong potion for him.
From the shock of the situation, your mind is a little scattered so your instinctive response is to panic and shriek for help. By the time you reach the door however you remember that you can help him yourself!
"Okokok... here, hold still... I think this should-"
Rushing back to him, you get Toba to help you onto the bed where you quickly slash your hand with your dagger, clenching your fist in order to rub the blood on his burned injuries. It hurts him a lot just for touching his injuries, but soon enough the both of you are relieved to see that his body is quickly healing as well as if he'd applied a health potion directly to the burn wounds.
It occurs to you that you could have just like, licked him or even kissed him, or simply sloshed water through your mouth to mix with your saliva and used that. The healing result would have been the same probably, but in your panic you just resorted to blood and all that matters is that his healed. And best of all, you did it so quickly that he doesn't appear to bear any scars from it, just patches of lighter skin from being freshly healed and should settle to normal by tomorrow or so.
"Thank you... Zujenia, that could have been bad."
"No no, it was nothing! But... do you mind if I test something out?"
Once he's healed to full and things have settled down, a couple minutes later and he hasn't burst into flames again and everything seems fine for now... you want to get to the bottom of this if you can. Before he gets any clothes on then, you pace around him on the bed, looking and feeling him over in case you missed anything.
"Nothing wrong there I think, what about outside?"
From atop the bed you move towards the window, it seems unlikely but perhaps someone... shot a fireball through the window or something? Doesn't look like anything suspicious outside, though you see some people down in the street looking up in worry at the smoke having come out the window, and you yell down to them that there's nothing wrong.
>>
If it wasn't like something, some chemical got on Toba's body or some freak magical accident, and it wasn't something from outside then what was it? Leaning on the windowsill from the bed, you try looking around the room when your gaze comes back to Toba himself... something strange. A couple times, you lean more in the way of the window and then out of the way, and eventually try drawing a curtain just to check...
"...where's your shadow?"
"My what, shadow? What do you... wait, what the-?!"
He comes to notice it eventually as you did, that his body isn't casting a shadow to any light. He tries not to panic but he's still rightfully alarmed, and to test your worries you ask for his help and pull his hand towards the light. Holding his hand with both of yours, you carefully urge him to come closer to where you can take his hand into the direct sunlight coming through the window-
"-GAUH!"
"-it's ok it's ok!"
Once again his body combusts into fire and smoke, though just his hand where it got into the light. Initial pain and panic between you, but this time you're prepared to quickly smother the flames and then lick his hand better. He's healed back to full soon enough, but now the panic is starting to overtake him.
"What's going on Zujenia? I can't go into the sun, what's happening to me?!"
"I don't... I'm not sure, but we can figure this out together..."
Of course you say what you can to comfort him, as clearly both your minds are in a frenzy over this. Standing beside while he sits on the bed, you hold his head to your chest and try to reassure and calm him down... but your eyes are focused on your own shadow on the wall, seeming to intentionally appear as it normally should... appear innocent.
>What do you do?
Put the sheets on the windows and cover all the sun coming in, tell him we will try to find a way to help him.
You have a sinking feeling that you may be responsible for Toba's condition, and in fact if you are responsible for his shadow going missing, maybe that's why your lovemaking took such a harsh toll on him? Sure it's rough because he's half-elven, but he's worse off than he was last time, maybe because you drew his shadow out of him just as you drew his seed. You can't imagine having your shadow (and whatever relevance that has to one's soul) severed is something that would make you feel good.
For the time being then you cover up all the windows... it seems even Toba covering himself won't stop the burning, like if he wore clothes, but blocking the light itself from reaching him works. He's naturally worried, frightened, but you can convince him to stay here while you try to figure this out. Not like you hadn't considered letting him just spend the day in bed anyway.
"Yay problema, señora?"
"What? Problema... oh, no! It's fine, everything's fine! Just uh... thought we saw a rat is all... oh! But we could do with some more, uh... blankets? And maybe a bucket or two of water, if that's possible?"
On the way out of your room you encounter one of the serving girls, come to check on all the screaming and commotion, and smoke worst of all. You can set aside any worries though, and just ask for some extra help for Toba while you seek some privacy in a place outside the inn, to confront your shadow.
"Alright shadow... err, better name, shadow me... ssssshhhhhhujenia! Alright Suzu! What's going on? Did you do something to Tobias?"
Having found a spot behind some barrels in the back alley, you push up against your shadow on the wall... you're not really sure why, it just feels proper like you're holding her to interrogation. You demand an answer, but remember that she can't make noise, only visual clues... although with, what appears to be a sly silent laughter, she gives you all the proof you need.
"Wait a minute... is that? It is! That's Toby's shadow, isn't it! Give it back now! Err, actually... is he part of you now? What can you do with him?"
At your insistence, Suzu drags out what appears to be a half-elven shadow upon inspection, holding him out in display to you at first but protectively drawing him close to her when you claw at the wall trying to grab for Toba's shadow to take it back.
>1 Shadow Stolen!
It seems after all, that you... or rather, your shadow is responsible for stealing Toba's. She now seems to be in possession of it much like if you just physically grabbed and dragged Toba around yourself, though a little disturbingly but it seems she can incorporate Toba's shadow into herself to increase in power, or just remain separate of his shadow which similarly seems to have a mind of his own now... although subservient to Suzu. It's not like your shadow hasn't passed by/through or interacted with other shadows before, even other people's shadows. However you wonder if the amount of contact you made with Toba allowed Suzu to steal his shadow... not like you've shared such intimate full-body contact with anyone else yet, since becoming voodoo-cursed.
Whatever the case though, it seems your suspicions have been confirmed, that your shadow is a thief capable of taking others... and she doesn't seem too keen on giving Toba's up. Either out of protection for her increased power, or her affection for him just as you have for the real Toba. The more you think about it, the more annoyed and jealous it makes you in fact... you wish you could be as close with your lover as your shadow is with hers.
Of course you care for Toba's sake and make it clear, although this strange new development of the supernatural, prompts curiosity as well. You can make your case to your shadow about not taking Toba's during the day, and though she seems to understand you, she still refuses. Without being able to verbally communicate she tries her best to convey meaning... first, by holding hands with Toba's shadow and attempting to break that hand grip but unable to do so, and then hugging him close.
"You... can't give it back? Or, it's not easy to give it back? You can't just do it whenever you want..."
It seems, and you suppose it makes sense, that severing or restoring someone's shadow isn't something easily done or to be taken lightly. So treating it like a daily activity where she steals his shadow every night and then gives it back before dawn, isn't feasible. She gives an approving gesture that it is at least possible to return his shadow but again, not so flippantly done.
Second, is that she extends his shadow towards you but then pulls him close again to stand side by side (or, head by waist given the height difference), one arm gripping tightly around his legs while she extends an empty hand to you.
"He's yours... you want a replacement before you return him."
It appears that Suzu understands and accepts your plea, about being kin, fellow goblins and working together. That goblin kinship seems to be something that even a goblin shadow has. But while she's accepting of your plea at least in theory, and probably doesn't want the real Toba to suffer, she also doesn't want to lose power either. So she appears willing to restore his shadow if you get her a replacement, someone else's. Then once she has one, she'll restore Toba.
"What happens if he dies though? What if you lose him because of doing this?"
>>
Well, no worries for her there apparently, she reaffirms her grip of his shadow so it seems even if he dies she'll still have it. A nasty fate you suspect, stealing someone's shadow and getting to keep it forever, and leaving them to face the sunlight at some point. For what it's worth you're also curious about his shadow itself as well, wondering what it can do. Asking her to show you however, to your surprise she can actually send his shadow off, entirely separate of you. With a push, you watch as she urges his shadow to basically take a walk around the alleyway, even disconnected of either you or her. Seems Suzu is naturally connected to you, but stolen shadows, even in the daytime can be detached and made to do things.
"...and what about others? If we stole more, would we have to... every time?"
If Suzu can wield shadows as lackeys... this might be more valuable than you can afford to ignore. Of course it all depends on how shadows can be stolen, like if you have to make love to all your victims... well you could, but you'd rather not. Thankfully, Suzu with use of a shadowed dagger, demonstrates a mock-killing of Toba after which she draws his shadow into herself. So it appears if you kill someone, they obviously can't resist you stealing their shadow. Either that or the way you did with Toba last night; you suppose that because he willingly gave his body to you, his essence, that through such a union you (or Suzu) were able to also take his shadow.
Of course neither methods are particularly appealing, but it seems what you're limited to at Suzu's current power. You don't really want to go around murdering people to steal their shadows... but you could. Just as you don't want to become a streetwalker or some bar floozy to bed victims and steal their shadows... but again, you could. The important thing is that, it seems Suzu is capable of stealing more and that her power could continue to increase... whatever that might entail.
All this shadow business is a bit much for you! You'll get to the bottom of it, but later, right now you'd appreciate something else to focus on and give your mind a distraction before considering as heavy topics as murder.
So you can return to Toba back in your room upstairs, he's a little more calmed down now (even if he's not happy with the idea of being a prisoner in the room) and you can let him know the sort-of good news. That you think there's a way to solve the problem and help him, it'll just take a little time and some... potentially unsavory effort. But even in the worst case scenario he can still go out at night without worry.
"Don't do anything you'd regret for my sake. I'd rather stay this way than to make you have to do something... bad."
What a darling, always putting you first. But you got him into this mess and you'll get him out. So checking that he's in good health still and has everything he may need to keep him comfortable and occupied in the room for the time being, you can depart to handle matters at the docks.
---
"Come niña, don't waste my time!"
Probably smartly, you choose not to haul bags of silver around with you in crowded areas. But it presents some trouble in trying to be taken seriously when dealing with people, who usually assume you to be an orc child at first. Many times you get shoo'd away, belittled and laughed at, or even kicked.
Eventually though you can find a labor overseer who is willing to direct you to the right men to see, on the topic of a warehouse.
"If you're serious, show me the money and we can talk."
In your searching, asking, and negotiating, it seems you've located a decent little storehouse on the docks. It's admittedly small (which is why there's not a big demand for it) but the location is good, right on the waterfront, and it was recently vacated after the prior owner was caught using freed orcs as slave labor. For pretty much all the money you have, you could buy the storehouse outright to own, or for half of what you've got you could let it for a three year period. Spending all your money isn't appealing of course, but after the last fiasco with Don Pedro and losing your house because you didn't own it with a deed and all... it could be worth consider. Then again, it entirely depends on how much value and use you hope to get out of the storehouse.
Something to consider, before you try and fetch any money for whichever exchange you decide on. Incidentally while you're around the docks, you also take to asking anyone about orcs and their shamanistic ways, just in case you find any leads. Unfortunately, it sounds like any orcs in or around the town or in the area, are fairly adjusted to human culture. For their more native ways from their Old world homeland, there's stories about independent orc communities due south, living in the swamps of the opposite coastline.
Hmm
Orcs to the south....how far I wonder?
Let's rent this thing again since we still need money for other things like the lab, then we order the lab to be done, leave some good money so Toba can stay in that room for some days and travel south to see those orcs
>>
>>4072823
Do we have weapons? We can ambushbone of the guys keeping an eyebon our house and kill him to get his shadow
>>
>>4073134
Near the opposite coast apparently, many days of perilous travel... for normal folk but you however have Vorli's favor, the god of traveling and exploration so the journey is of little risk at all to you.
Paying for the several year lease is possible then if that's what you want, in order to have money left over.
After another couple days you expect the weapons you paid for to be ready, after which point you can certainly go seek some revenge and try to get a shadow. Gods know you'd at least like to put an end to that one man who shoved you in a bag to kidnap in the first place and beat you against a wall.
For this then, make a roll for the assassination attempt of the guy, so that you can figure out something to occupy yourself with for a few more days till you get some weapons and then can take some revenge.
On a related note, I see that the thread is nearing completion and will soon drop off the board. I think this is a decent stopping point or close enough, we could reach one perhaps soon enough before the thread does actually drop off the board.
Same as last time then, would you guys like to see this continue? If we have enough players still I'd be ok with that and making another thread if you'd want to continue. And if so, I think we'd probably do it like last time with another timeskip ahead about a week, so if you want to specify something like a shopping list of ideas or goals you could complete in that week, you can do that here before the thread ends and we'll see what Zujenia can manage by a weeks passing and next thread.
And whether we continue, or seek an ending here, either way thanks a ton for playing and I hoped you enjoyed this thread and the quest so far!
Let's test the shadows abilities, see if they can hurt living people, maybe even see if that shadow dagger they did before can hurt flesh and bone
Another test could be to see if they can interact with someones shadow and make it reflect on the person, like making it trip or hurting it.
While we wait for the weapons comission the lab equipment and grab ingredients, bought or collected from the wild
Are we gonna get a blessing Coconut?
Like super shadow abilities?
>>
>>4073854
>>4073825
Well which would you prefer? Both outcomes seem potentially fair, or another favor of a (relevant) god like your body's healing nature.
Out of curiosity, make another roll. Not any risk of failure, just to see how potentially beneficial this could be.
